Last Saturday night, June 5, 2004 a friend and I arrived in Savannah on our way to Florida, unaware of the G8 conference taking place in the vicinity or that Sonny Perdue, the governor of Georgia had declared martial law for six counties including Savannah and Sea Island which is about 60 miles away and where dimson and the G8 are having their meeting. ( I don't think the rest of America knew that Georgia was under martial law either) .

Although the dignitaries are going to Sea Island, many of the bureaucrats accompanying the leaders were booked into hotels in the Historic Section on the river which is the charming area tourists visit. It's usually booked up every weekend and this weekend was no exception, but more about that later.

February 8 was a a historic day for Israel, for Palestine, and possibly for the world.

The two protagonists. Sharon and Abbas faced off - on either side of a conference table, accompanied by Middle East Kings and Presidents and aides seated on each side. They agreed to stop killing. each others' peoples. The undeclared war called an "intifada" had killed a known 4700 men, women, and children in the past four years.

While the world took a deep breath and slowly exhaled at this news, the terrorist organization Hamas announced its disagreement with the leaders of the four countries and to continue their war of death to innocent civilians (violent Pluto conjunct Mars in the 6th sextile the South Node in the 4th).These are the people who bomb weddings and restaurants, bus stops and school buses and cars, and send Palestinian children who haven't reached their teens yet, wearing bomb belts, into Israeli checkpoints. If they have made any point it is that life even of children has no value to them.

After a 35 year love affair Prince Charles has announced his intention and the date of his marriage to Camilla Shand Parker-Bowles. Upon his announcement, his mother , Queen Elizabeth II announced she, and her husband Prince Philip would not be attending the wedding. Not attending the wedding of your eldest son who is to follow you as King of England? What kind of mother is this? Actually, Queen Elizabeth was not known for her motherly skills, and in fact when Charles was a boy, she was roundly criticized by the British Press for going off to live with her husband in Malta during his military duty, leaving Charles in the care of Nannys from the time he was in swaddling clothes.
