30 years ago!...........Ha! In 1980, I had passed my real estate exam & gotten licensed just in time for the descent, & beginning of the following housing bubble/crash/crisis.
I was crushed because my beloved Uncle, one time State Senator, Real Estate Broker, MVA, Insurance salesman (held the ins. contract on the Del. Memorial Bridge, & strong Joe Biden supporter, was very negative, rather than being thrilled for me.
( He saw what was coming down the Pike.)
2 of his 6 kids had tried several times and failing to pass, had given up on it. I was puzzled, he was always one of my stanch supporters in my enterprises.
And so, I plunged into a house purchase, driven more by emotion than common sense, I got a minimum $ down, FHA 245 mortgage, that paid only $20. per month toward the principle AFTER THE FIRST 4 years!
I had dreamed of dark, frozen, cedar water, at night, with Pine Barrens vegetation frosted with snow on the banks, while still in the city, and THERE IT WAS, across the trail from my dream house!
I can't call the purchase, a mistake......... the 11 years I lived there, developed my creative/painting ability beyond expectations...... I couldn't find a paint/pastel; bright enough to express the blue of a jay against the green of the pines, & the red of the holly berries.............until I learned the masters tricks, of manipulating the color relationships to gain the effect I wanted.
and the waning I sensed of the mural painting niche, became a reality, as the Boomer's kids,SO MANY, graduated from art school, and started undercutting me price wise.........They weren't paying NJ property taxes, as I was, their Moms & Dads were..........
but I lived for a decade on commissioned paintings.....upgrade.....until the crash of '87, & Property taxes had tripled, ( was working on Sen Bill Bradley's team to get them lowered,) & HUD sold my mortgage to a bank, they wanted to foreclose, so with a little rear guard action I sold that place & bought this place......... which has, from the beginning demanded more of my time & energy to maintain than the other..........( what do you expect with N Neptune in the 4th? at least it's still standing....) and trine to mars Capricorn in the 8th & Sun Uranus in the 11th (Koch) or 12th
(karma), Neptune has finally given birth to the voluptuous series of water paintings; more to come!
And yes, now, with the property taxes, less than 1/2 what the NJ taxes were 30 years ago BEFORE they tripled.........I still can't pay them, and have had to sign the house over to my Daughter.....and unlike the mourning process of
10 years or more for the other house........it took about a week for me to feel free of encumbrences.............( I don't have to move)
but am free of pressure to produce FOR MONEY. Immediately, I was presented by the Universe with the opportunity to form the Youth Civic's group I have been mentally formulating, & talking up, since Feb. when I stepped out of the race for State Senator, and teach them cartooning/graphic Design to write regular graphic novels/newsletters, a la Tom Paine or Ben Franklin, learning civics, history, & political science, while enthusiastic about the creation of their publication..........It is on a volunteer basis, for the moment, and I couldn't do it if I had to worry about the property tax!

There are several aspects now in play (grounded in myths perpetuated years ago). The most pernicious is the banking cartel, as you site above, Sally. The webbed relationships between the cartel and favored mega-corporations have created a Jabba-the-Hut like monstrosity, rolls of fat concealing filth, multiple arms squeezing the life out of the planet. We've privitized the water, cordoned off the oceans, divied up the land. Are we going to privitize the air we breathe?

Many of our government representatives use coined phrases, rhetoric that always intones "what the voters want." The simplification of complex legislation allows the crafty to hoodwink the gullible, those looking for right/wrong, black/white answers.

Social media has made it easier to spy on one another, tell others what we want them to hear, or to see. By creating myths we can skirt the hard work of being responsible for our ACTS....and that's exactly what happened to me thirty years ago. I too was transitioning through life/death issues, and poverty. What became apparent to me -- the transformational moment -- was that I would (and did) transform my life through acts and deeds. I'm still in school. Hopefully, I've graduated to Universe-ity.

Sally-I just didn't say what I wanted to say here. Karen really sums up what has me so excited since I read this new one: what happened thirty years ago is that I was confronted with that which I do not approve of in myself and I have been working on those issues since then.
Sally- you are a stern and very thorough teacher. The sternness is from my own make-up(meaning the way I respond to thoughts shared and your depth of understanding stirs this up and Karen's response to your words and thoughts called to me from the depths. WOW!! here is my Christmas message-for the past thirty years I usually receive a dream or imagination that inspires my reflections for the year. Of course nothing is ever that orderly in my Gemini toolbox but you get the idea.
Love to you for all that you do and have done and thank you for the power of your consistency that has inspired me even when I am sure you were not feeling terribly inspired (these past months have not been so easy!!).

Our standard of living stayed about the same, but I remember dad feeling economic pressure like he never had before. Also, that year was my first exercise in losing weight, when over that summer (before my senior year in high school) I basically lost 65 pounds due to will power going from 225 to 160, finally setting at about 170. My weight has wildly fluctuated in the years between, and it's still somewhat of a struggle.
Other than that, today music is practically my only source of income and spotty at that, so I wonder what else from 30 years' past will resurface? If some of that youthful exuberance and optimism from age 17 returns I will welcome it gladly.

Good find qop, it's been several years since I read that and had completely forgotten it, so it was fun to review it.

Garry it was lovely seing your name at the end of three repeats, and yes Mercury Rx would be to blame. I feel as if I just finished a Mercury RX. I hear the IRS is really cracking down on people this year, so wait until after Dec. 30 to even start looking at them.

No I think the 5 golden rings is a reminder that there is a fall or marking of the "families" who have been around for 200 plus years about to fall for another group coming in.

Such a simple question from you Sally, what thirty years ago brought to me. Still looking at that, retrospectives, lol I had to back up from now to then with my work history and my son's age. My husband is working on my wired world here inside my armoire. Rather chaotic. I had to get a new UPS box. The UPS box is a back up battery source that takes over when the power pops on and off and on and off an on and off with fallen branches dancing and bouncing from the electrical current during stormy weather...the branch usually wins. So he's also decided to clean up all the other things plugged into the power strips (plural yes) beneath my feet...not sure what burr got under his saddle. So I will go back to my retrospective and see what I have overlooked.

YES!!! DADT repealed today although Dream Act not, and the good republicans ,the law and order types still can't see their way to clear the medical coverage for those who acted on 9/11 to save lives. If only children and the disabled workers had the kind of backing the gay soldiers have. The eclipse and the Winter Solstice overlap this week, this is the first time it's happened since 1554 according to NASA. This Canadian article says there isn't any astrological information on what happened in 1554 but there was a lot going on in England, not the best year for them.

In lieu of astrological observations or data, we will have to make our own guesses. The 29 degree of the eclipse is a critical degree, as well as the 0 degrees of the Solstice and Mercury is retrograde, interesting configuration. The eclipse Sun from Washington is in the 2nd house and it rules the 10th. The Moon is in the 8th and ruling the 9th of the higher mind. Eclipses impact six months before and six months after and are usually associated with royalty and government leaders (I don't like to even refer to them that way)So in the last six months we have had Wikileaks that have put governments is a twit, Prince William announced his engagement, Obama is taking a real beating and I don't know if he cares. We have had the Korean issue that seems to be heating up. The top State Dept. diplomate die, so many things falling. One thing I have not forgotten is the Sun at the time the Iraq war started was at 29 Pisces, so here we have Uranus and Jupiter going over that 29 degree in the next couple of months and this eclipse hits it, another focus of interesting dynamics.

Potential for more news, blowing up of diploma over the last several months, Obama's Venus is at 1 degree Aries, that's pretty darn close to all of this and the last six months haven't been a picnic for him I wouldn't think.

Mark these years down (2010/2011) they will prove to be incredible years.

Good morning!! The rain here is something. The news said the forecast is for the largest rain in a decade and I believe it. Perhaps the final blessing of Jupiter in Pisces? Good morning to everyone!! Today I am making chocolate cheesecake and probably some cookies or perhaps fudge. Tomorrow carrot cake. Christmas Eve morning i will make the dinner rolls that my daughter begged for-she freaked a little that I didn't "bake for Thanksgiving" although I did make pies just not the bread.
I love this, love to cook and bake and have the house full of people especially the young ones.

Clymela, I'm obviously feeling the same things you are. Most everyone (with a heart) is too. One aspect of this worker/elite mentality is the way those who believe themselves removed from the dirt-under-the-nails worker intimately rely on those they disdain. For one week those disdainful need to take off the garbage, fix the cars, fight the fires, police the streets, build the homes, etc.

The unions have been and are now the only obstacle in keeping the disdainful from realizing their unrealistic goals. What the unions need to do is work with one another on both a national and international level. Now that would scare the *hit out of every disdainful "be" and wannabe. In fact, something like this is already being discussed, thus the unions have become the targets of lies, bad facts, and general maliciousness.

For a week or more I have been feeling as if a dark mountain has been lifted from my sholders and that my vision is full of light. this began with Sally's recommendation that we recall what we were "working" on thirty years ago pointing out that that is our lesson. Well that gave me such a boost and such a new outlook that whoosh! the old was swept away and a new outlook moved in.
Just reviewed and the thought of reviewing what I was doing thirty years ago came from Sally via Morgana. WOW!! what powerful advice that hit me just where I needed the "hit".
Storms moving through our region today!! How wonderful to be home,quiet eating black beans and bread and other things put together following our feast day yesterday. Many young people came and there are almost no leftovers. the beans are being cooked to honor the ham bone.

So here I am in Tennessee. Beautiful and so far I have been around people who are so family oriented and who love their children out loud in public so different from what I encounter in California. I won't say anything about politics only to say that I feel real fear when the issue comes up. These people are reading Glen Beck, Sarah Palen,etc.-seriously!! Pray for us-these are good and hard working people and they deserve a better world. I love the country here but the political landscapre is horrifying.

Hey Clymela where in TN are you? It seems my native/beloved Gemini state TN(June 1st, 1796) is beset by a myriad of issues, not the least of which is the still-seething hatred of Dems for passing the Civil Rights Act, and the reliance upon traditional/corporate media for their "facts". For instance, the media failed me in 1980 with their incessant anti-Carter tirades, so I was led to believe Raw-n-old Raygun was better for America.

Also, add to that the national con-job meme of the GOP being against higher taxes and for the "middle class"(somebody please tell me where an annual family income of $250K makes them "middle class"?) plus an "uppity nigger"(very sorry, but that's what they say!)in the White House, and you have the current state of the South.

For all their much-ballyhooed "faith" and status as "the buckle of the Bible belt", the people of the South and TN in general sure do seem to be buying more into fear than faith--they don't need more liars, they need a bigger God, but many "MINIstries" here regularly preach against Obama and Democrats and retain their tax-free status. That said, politics notwithstanding, Tn folks are welcoming and polite---and the rule here is, there are three things we don't talk about: religion, politics, and barbecue. :)

Saddening and maddening for sure, but there are enlightened pockets of liberals here in TN--- you just have to look for them. Davidson County, for instance, where my current home Nashville is located, ALWAYS votes blue in elections---usually it's only one of two or three blue specks against the great Red "Sea", but still blue nonetheless.

The Agriculture Department said 39.68 million people, or 1 in 8 Americans, were enrolled for food stamps during February, an increase of 260,000 from January. USDA updated its figures on Wednesday.

He knows my mechanic who will pick it up in his truck and knows just where to go...... He will pick up my car from the house & fix it & it will only be about $100. Good ole fashioned horse trading out in the boonies....luv it!

QOP you so rock! Thank you for holding down the fort and for encouraging Captain Sally to rest. I have bits and pieces of astrology notes I will try and put together something cohesive. I have avoided politics as much as is humanly possible for a political junkie these last few weeks. The sickening sight of Republicans being in power yet again, and hearing their whiney voices just crated on my nerves and I was snapping at everyone. Still pondering what thirty years ago brought me. Otherwise time moves too fast! Oh gosh must tell you guys...my daughter-in-law got her ultra-sound done on Monday and they say we are expecting our first granddaughter due April 14th. Governor Paul LePage and new Attorney General William Schneider are planning to have the state of Maine join a lawsuit based in Florida attacking the Affordable Care Act. Joining the suit will cost the state $400,000 and, if successful, would deny care for thousands of Mainers.

This may be just the first of many assaults on health care that we see under the LePage administration and the new conservative legislature.

The responses on network news from the Republicans seem to have been rehearsed. The gunman was unbalanced. (Although no one has explained that he had presence of mind to invoke his rights) Not one Republican accepted the fact that inflamed rhetoric played any role in this tragedy. In fact Kyle stated that Gifford was also strong on second ammendment rights. Although Palin took down the target page on her website, her statement did not reflect anything other than her condolences.

Nefarious attempts on congressional offices/judges etc have steeply escalated within the past few years. Will it take more tragedy to make it clear that words DO have consequences?

Qop, I recall the questionnaire sent you by the NRA. Yes, this HAS been going on for quite some time. However, the nature of the rhetoric HAS changed. The threatening nature of some statements have become more inflamed -- "second amendment remedies" or "reload not retreat" incite, and "excite."

Avoiding responsibility for this kind of baiting (like feeding deer corn or carrots in order to make them easy game) will backfire.

I grew up in a family that pointed fingers, was afraid of "what the neighbors might think." Accepting responsibility for your own behavior meant following rigid, and often arbitrary rules that had everything to do with status, or financial succes. The superficiality of this kind of responsibility is something prevalent in our society. Like many other aspects of our institutions, this too is being exposed. For, personal responsibility is a lifelong journey, leading to deeper awareness of our connections with one another.

a while back i heard about ophiuchus, the hidden or forgotten about 13th sign. the idea of a missing sign intrigued me and the fact that it was the 13th- a number that is sacred to the goddess but feared by man and made to be evil- made me wonder about the potential 'conspiracy' of hiding said 13th sign. as i explored the myth of ophiuchus i found it compelling. ophiuchus is also know as asklepios- he was a healer, said to have really existed, who was so powerful he could raise people from the dead. this angered hades- the god of the underworld who up until that point had the final say on who died and who remained alive. hades went to zeus and complained and zeus, although impressed with asklepios' gifts of healing, also agreed that he was stepping over the boundary between mortals and gods. so zeus struck him down and killed him, but because of his amazing gift he set him in the sky as the constellation ophiuchus......."

There are people doing this deliberately, and it is exposing the naivete of astrologers who don't know the mechanics of astrology. The mechanics of astrology are not being studied by newer astrologers because they depend on computers to do ...all the work. They have NO foundation. So when these raves travel from mind to mind they all get completely confused and afraid to question it for fear of losing the approval of the others. It is just the kind of thing to destroy the science and art of astrology and make the whole thing a waste. The worst thing about it is that these astrologers are reading and advising people who come for help. The classical astrologers since many centuries listed the 36 constellations as I explained above. Let's not reinvent the wheel. There is NO constellation that corresponds exactly with the Zodiac. The Zodiac with its decanates called after t...hese constellations is a purely mathematical structure. It is NOT sidereal. It divides the Ecliptic. Tropical Astrology is NOT sidereal. It relates to the Earth. If you want to learn sidereal astrology you don't use Tropical. You use an entirely different system. Ophiuchus being between Scorpio and Sagittarius has NOTHING to do with Tropical astrology. The precession of the equinoxes puts the Zodiac sign Sagittarius in the constellation Scorpio and the Zodiac Sign Scorpio in the constellation Libra.
People are very confused, and instead of admitting that they are confused, spout their confusions to confuse others. The upshot is that a lot of would be astrologers will utterly fail. I, for one, won't walk this mile of stupidity."

I really resonate to the astrologer pointing out that by using computers fro everything we are becoming weak-I worry that I use computers exclusively and while I am saved the embarrassment of uncovering arithimetic errors I am also growing weak in understanding. However, I don't think that is what happened here. I know that my neck hairs stood up reading that astronomers were presenting the "news". I don't hate astronomers but I do know that many of them hate the likes of me. I was wondering if this didn't arise out of the sidereal zodiac but now I see it is just to prove ,once again, that astrology doesn't work.

Yes, thank YOU, Morgana and Qop for the various links. Like you, Clymela I thought something was terribly fishy. The red flag was this.....astrologers spend a lifetime in study. Those who trivialize astrology do not understand this very thing. If there IS to be an intellectual "debate" about astrology, those who pooh-pooh it need to be educated about this very thing.

This ancient science intimidates me by its very scope. Therefore, someone who is able to synthesize this information while contributing to the study of astrology has my utmost respect.

One of the first commissions I did on my own, (not working WITH my husband, & as the kids were more involved with school activities), was a paneled screen with a tree of life in subdued beiges, ordered by a husband for his wife who was dying of cancer………………
I did not know at the time that I was a healer through the gift of my art…………it was a gift from my soul and made her last days more peaceful…………
