Commentary: THE BIG QUESTION

At this particular odd moment in the history of the human species during the summer of 2010, perched as we are atop the increasingly unsteady edifice of modern civilization that now leans like the Tower of Pisa, with its nearly 7 bn citizens, its voracious commercial engines, and its diverse complex societies steadily merging toward a single global marketplace, where our domination seems nearly total over the rest of life on earth and indeed over even the earth herself, only one real question remains.

That question is: Will the collapse of civilization be fast or slow?

This variable, both fascinating and terrible, currently has no answer, but it arises for me everyday now, sometimes floating, sometimes darting in and out of my force field like my own personal Tinker Bell, though the effect is somewhat less charming than in the Disney version.

Since the advent of the internet in the early 1990s, a thriving subculture has developed, mainly in cyberspace, but also in major book publishing and the seminar/symposia circuit as well, surrounding the issue of impending civilization collapse. This is not, however, a unified subculture, but instead a crazy quilt
comprised of different groups: the Peak Oil people (incl Michael Ruppert, Matthew Simmons, Richard Heinberg, Matt Simmons, etc.), environmentalists and natural scientists (James Lovelock, Bill McKibben, Wm Kotke, et al), theologians (Thomas Berry, etc.), apocalyptic visionaries (Christian
fundamentalists awaiting the End Times and Rapture), cultural critics (James

I don't think there is any doubt that this civilization is on the verge of collapse, but when and how and what does that or will that mean to each of us? Complete death of every living thing? Other civilizations have collapsed but something and someones have survived. We just don't really know and we don't have a historical reference for what is going to happen.

We do know there will be devestating weather in the form of floods, hurricains, volcano, and man made disasters largely due to our infrastructure crumbling. Some of the human race will die, we are already dying everyday, but how many and where? Governments will collapse, anarchy, dictatorships, enslavement, so many things can happen but we don't know what will happen in each country, it will be different for everyone. History is loaded with "the sky is falling" predictions but it still has not fallen, is it falling now, it's certainly chipping away or seems to be on somedays. All we really know is times right now are beyond tough for our generations living now, and we fear it is going to get worse it certainly has year after year for the last 10 years.

My biggest fear is what Morgana said, "the crazies and the uber crazies" riding and ruling over us. Chilling thought.

By the way, I am sure you all remember "mission accomplished." Well I just heard today "the recession is over and has been since 2009." Let's see, 9 years after "mission accomplished" we are still in Iraq pretending we are something other that occupiers, so where will we be in 9 years after the end of this recession in 2009, the Mad Hatter lives.

Morgana, one of the most incoherent aspects of the squealers and squawkers is the energy available to them. The numbers of those who have willingly --without thought or feeling -- given this movement its impetus is astounding. Looking at the demographic, Tea Baggers seem to consist of those in the mid-forties to sixties. They are the very people who would be most devastated by the proposals to can social security, overturn healthcare, medicaid, etc. All of it is being packaged under reclaiming the Constitution.

Those masterminds behind this are truly evil geniuses. First came the dumb down, then the corporate buyout of all state and federal agencies. We truly are on the edge of fascism.
But, I believe the Earth has something to say about that!

My dreaming of last night fits right in with this excellent piece. I woke with another layer of understanding regarding the class system. Those who did not wish to labor became clever about getting others to do their work. Perhaps this evolved by promising the laborer an extra share of food, and evolved to the next step. The laborer acquired a CLASSification according to skill. Later, wealth proclaimed itself by the number of slaves owned. Today, business owners/corporations are categorized by the number of employees. More employees, more wealth.

We can not evolve from this dimension by maintaining the above agreement -- one that affects every being on this planet. If we continue with this agreement we continue to deny our abundant possibilities.

Morgana-I just have an intuition that says Meg Whitman will get votes from Wall ST types here in CA but no votes from those who have worked for or with her. The woman is mean and it shows all over her.

I am hoping that is all she gets and Fiorino as well both of them are very scary ladies. California is just another trophy for their mantels. Neither gives a damn about the people or the State for that matter. I remember Jerry Brown's run as gov. and I was perfectly happy with him. We've had too many bad Republican governors. Think Pete Wilson, Richard Nixon, not sure what Dukemejian (sp.) was, he was pretty lackluster. The last several have been crappy including Grey Davis.

Meg has an uphill battle and she is not sure of her getting in there now with placing $150 million into her campaign, unless some of that money went to buy voting machines. She was born Aug. 4, 1956 in Long Island NY (nt) and she has Neptune chasing her all over the chart, as well as Uranus and Jupiter in a square to her Venus. If she wins it won't be by fair means, but foul. She is a nasty piece of work and California really doesn't need that now, like Morgana said it has already had a string of "nasties" sitting in that top of the state chair.

One of the more out-of-the-ordinary press conferences held in Washington this week consisted of former Air Force personnel testifying to the existence of UFOs and their ability to neutralize American and Russian nuclear missiles.

UFO researcher Robert Hastings of Albuquerque, N.M., who organized the National Press Club briefing, said more than 120 former service members had told him they'd seen unidentified flying objects near nuclear weapon storage and testing grounds.

Star & Stripes quoted former Air Force Capt. Robert Salas, who was at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana in 1967 when 10 ICMs he was overseeing suddenly became inoperative - at the same time base security informed him of a mysterious red glowing object in the sky.

Robert Jamison, a retired USAF nuclear missile targeting officer, told of several occasions having to go out and "re-start" missiles that had been deactivated, after UFOs were sighted nearby.

Similar sightings at nuclear sites in the former Soviet Union and in Britain were related.

Well weird is the day!! QOP before I got to you I heard the news of the US "experiments" on people in Haiti and Guatemala (probably more locations as time passes)regarding syphilis and gonorrhea during calendar years 1946-1948. Your post took my breath away, Sally. Throughout life I have challenged others (and always my own) assumptions about a myriad of subjects. The Bankers' Manifesto, however, is breathtaking in its sheer audacity! Discussions about "class" get my hackles up anyway. It's such a contrived and horrific way of corraling people. It reminds of the story of the elephant freed from captivity, and its chains. Broken from so much abuse, it remained right where it was. We've all been on the receiving end of that kind of abuse, still are. It begins with denying education.

I could rant a whole post about this, and the links the bankers use to chain us.

Holy Moly Sally-this info regarding the bankers sounds just like what we are living with now. I know that I am not alone in noticing that although the banks have been bailed out as has Wall St. there is no money forthcoming to help the rest of the economy. I have believed that this is so that Obama will be left looking the fool and so that "they" can then blame Obama and the Dems for everything knowing that the US public will forget about Bush and his eight years and then turn on Obama.

* A Vote of Confidence

I do understand how fruitless it is to try and soothe your fears. I really really do. But the cosmic war on terror is in full swing and I can't help myself. I'll try yet again.

It honestly doesn't matter what tiny human creature wins what in the overall scheme of things. Nor does it matter which fool political party gets power. It does not change the fundamentals of society. In fact, it works in the opposite direction. The underlying needs of a society at a given time determine the kind of leadership it chooses. And don't worry. Society does choose even if it's a dictator. There is no conspiratorial force of evil trying to get you. Well, it won't, even if there is one. In that regard, who votes for whom or who doesn't vote won't change the fundamentals either. What's the point of eviscerating one another over someone else except to satisfy Mars in Scorpio?

Every two years like clockwork the crowd gets into a monstrous terrified frenzy thinking the end is coming once again. Maybe it's a catharsis of sorts and serves some beneficial purpose but what that goodness is still eludes my comprehension. The governing body is a symbol of the times and the fact of the matter remains--the US is in a regressive phase going further into constriction and conservatism. But that's temporary. Your vote won't change the movement since society as a whole needs whatever reality it has. If you read his whole article you will see he details the "day cycles" and the "night cycles" of 18 years each. They in fact follow pretty much the patterns of the nodes which return every 18 years. The night cycles are cold, chaotic, depressing, economic recessions and or depressions, greed, selfishness, self-absorption and some down right evil. Then comes the day of 18 years of economic expansion, warmth, caring about one another, growth, new inventions, creativity,spirituality, rebuilding.

I am finally moved and find I need to get rid of even more because I don't have the room, it is so liberating to get rid of stuff you've been carrying around for years. I am at least going to start with a place for everything and everything in it's place (we'll see how long that lasts) but I have been wondering through this process as much as we have lost as a country in the last 10 years when we entered this "dark cycle," how much did we have to lose that cannot be replaced with the potential of a better way. I wonder what we lost during the Civil War and all the wars before we were born, what did we lose during the depression, all the depressions we've had before we were born, and there were some better things that came forward from those losses, not for everyone but for a lot of folks.

As I look around I think my biggest fear is that we are completely losing our humanity as a nation, and it would seem our sanity as well, I will always work as hard as possible to hang on to my humanity and hope others do the same, course can't promise I will keep my sanity, but if I do go nuts please put me on the bus with the socialists and not the clowns riding around this country.

As to Venus. Mine is in Taurus, 2nd house. Of late my senses have a more penetrating quality, almost Plutonian in shade. The right and wrong of various belief systems are greying out. There seems to be a more purposeful quality to each energy, as though some force is pulling back hard the string on the bow. We the people are the arrow. When the bow releases we'll be flung into an entirely new dimension (as the parapachamama site suggests). Juxtaposed on this sense is another, a quickening of sorrow and compassion for those who have been subjected to "pink boyz" and the "pink boyz" themselves. The latter will be left behind to deal with what they've created.

AH VENUS, LOVELY, LOVELY VENUS went retrograde in Scorpio the sign of it's fall as is Aries because Venus rules Taurus and Libra, and the fall qualities of Venus in Scorpio have been evident for days and today hit the proverbial fan. BOA stopping all foreclosures, an even more dismal job market, polls dropping again or shifting, money flying around and no one wants it, the FDIC says it has enough info to arrest 50 bankers now, this is just the beginning. It will all however put the US into an even steeper decline than it already is, that is if the politicians handle it correctly and we can start rebuilding. There are articles all over the world about the corruption at all levels in the US, that message has gotten everywhere but in the US, and Venus in Scorpio retrograde is just the transit to expose for us beyond a doubt the depth and breadth of all the corruption.

Retrograde Venus is known for making rash and inappropriate purchases and being sorry later. Karen as a Venus in Taurus in the 2nd wait until this transit is over before making any major purchases even a dress, you won't like it later and will pay more than it's worth. It's going to still take a few years but this is another step in the collapse of corporate america including banking, torches and pitchforks aren't far away folks.

No matter who we vote for in Nov. we will not be happy with the selection but we have half a chance with the Dems, no chance with the GOP who will immediately throw this country into the depths of the dark night of the soul. The one result could also be that all the money being thrown at this election will be completed wasted and no one will get the value they put into it all.

Venus in Scorpio is the perfect Mafia aspect and it's no accident that there is finally going to be an audit of the Roman Catholic Vatican Bank. If they do an honest one what they find in that crypt is going to be fascinating.

Venus retrograde is a perfect time to consider how you might want to reinvent yourself when it's over. How you might want to dress, weigh, cut your hair, do a beauty regime any or all of that. How would you like to pamper and be pampered, that is a big benefit of Venus retro. Relationships won't go too well for a bit and it is usually not recommended to marry on a Venus retro, unless it's a second marriage for both, but I am sure there will be marriages going on so I wish them good luck and see what they can renegoiate as a couple when it passes.

It isn't the best retrograde, especially since it's in Scorp, but it's not the worst unless one is hip deep in the financial markets. BOA didn't just stop foreclosures because they cared about the people, there is something worse coming in this mortgage crisis.

So put on a mud mask to tighten your pores and watch the run up to this election. It's already in the works to take all we have from us and in a lot of instances they already have, so without a dog in this fight you might be able to enjoy the mess.

I wonder Sally, if at some point we might see Governments totally voiding old titles and claims and doing the old "reset" thing so that people can buy houses again.

Also alternative options may occur. Google "Land Bank" or "Land Trust". A group of people collectively own land and the houses on it, and no one can sell without the consent of the other owners. This is seen as a way of defending low-income neighborhoods from blockbusting.

With collective ownership, having to make offers to everyone upps the odds that things will be fair and open. Having to confront a dozen or so people means nobody vulnerable can be bamboozled into making a fraudulent deal for their house. Yes, groups can sometimes be dazzled, but usually there's at least one skeptic that asks questions.

Another thing I'm looking out for is when churches wind up with some of this property and start renting/leasing/selling these homes to their congregants. Good/Bad issues here with everything from religious freedom to at least depending upon who is doing this having someone who isn't eager to foreclose/evict right away

Secular community organizers need to start thinking that they may have to provide housing for people who have been foreclosed upon because they don't have to go by those dictatorial credit scores or make a profit for their group.

I'm not sure about that Carol, but I did have a flash about three years ago that something would happen that somehow they would or could wipe out credit card debts. That is another mess waiting to happen, but you could be right because the paradigms are shifting rapidly,I wouldn't be surprised if you are right. All the corruption in this country and beyond is all so intertwined with governments and business' and banks etc when that house of cards crashes down it will be loud and they are having a harder and harder time keeping it all afloat, it's just folding in on itself as they've spent too much time and money trying to keep the corrupt system going and I'm not sure there is a vested interest in the people to help them keep their little system going when the people are getting nothing in return, there are huge protests all over Europe against the bankers and corporations and governments.

When I can detach from what all of this is doing to me, friends, family, this country etc, it really is all funny to watch. I can just imagine the frantic intense meetings and phone calls as they try to figure out how not to let the fire they started consume them. Like I said, for some reason I think that during this retrograde period at least, money will not work like they thought, or power for that matter, no one will feel like they are getting what they want or what they paid for, the anxiety level with some will be intense during this election season.

Karen, i think "Inside Job" might be opening in our little neighborhood theater and I even think I have some free tickets for it, I am definately going to see it, thanks for the link. Although I have been reluctant to ever give GWB a pass on anything, I had in 2008 and uncomfortable feeling that he was forced to put Paulson in the role of the bank bail outs, and I also felt Obama was forced to take Geithner. Now I know that Goldman has a ton of people in the Government and someone for sure is placing them there, maybe Goldman is the shadow government.

Sally, I think the reset I am seeing is that Governments need two things: revenue and stability. Home ownership provides both-through taxes and a stable population that is more likely to stay put. The houses were resold to foreigners who if they see there is no way to collect on their investment, could very well abandon that investment. With abandoned investments, the Federal Government could by lien take those assets and possibly the underlying property. They could then void all previous commitments and either reverse foreclosure or simply create a whole new clean title out of necessity. The new owners become a secure source of revenue and stability.

It's a good idea, a reasonable idea, but the problem would be all the other countries and entities holding these worthless (at this point) investments. The largest buyer of the homes now as well as the largest buyers of the bundled mortgages is China and China is still snapping up as many as possible, whole blocks in some areas. I am not entirely sure that safety and stability is international bankers interest. Everything they've done has been with a seeming focus on instability. Did you read the "Bankers Manifesto of 1882" that was posted above. I am trying to find anything that would tell me they have acted in any other interest but that for over 100 years and perhaps longer.

We believe they need us to be stable, but they don't, there are other countries that can be built up to be the great consummer nation, Africa, India, China, it wouldn't take long at all, they turned South America into a third world country and they seem intent on doing the same here, they simply don't need our stability.

With America's Mars in retrograde, our ambition, our dominance our respect is going to go for at least 84 years. That's exactly what happened to Germany in the last century, we need to get busy here and re-invent ourselves into a new revelancy.

The Venus Retrograde doesn't affect your N Venus until it gets to Libra, won't be too bad while Venus is in it's fall in Scorp, it's not in Libra. It would be that Taurus Sun that would be the kicker and what to look out for, your Sun in Taurus lands in your 11th house so a few issues with friends while Venus is in Scorp. Like all Venus retrogrades it's a good time to revamp your hopes wishes and dreams (11th house) what kind of a friend you want to be, what kind of groups you want to belong to, what kind of art etc. Anything to do with hopes wishes and dreams.

You know Karen, there has been nothing in my life that I've studied be it religions of the world, physics, astrology and all the other math disciplines, and history that has led me to believe that this earth is nothing but an open air school house and these are lessons that each generation must learn over and over because we don't seem to learn from history.

I know it's hard for people to realize that we are so interconnected and so much a part of one another through the collective mind. I always tell people that I am the thief, the murderer, the whore, the liar, the sinner and all those things under the sun that we share with one another. I am also the saint, the lover, the peacemaker, the teacher, the good mother, the good friend and all those things that we share with one another. We are everything within us and it's a choice how we use it. We may use our gifts differently or even unwisely but we really aren't better than one another and we have a choice to wish the best for all of us or the worst for all of us but we can lift each other up or rip each other down if we could get our hearts and minds around the fact that we can change things on big or small scale our choice.

Well I am sorry, I am rambling badly but what you say is true and maybe we will get that one day or maybe earth just stays an open air school house where we can learn and then apply what we learn someplace else. We don't really know.

That connection to visual/aural energies are wholly available to us at birth. As a mother, I was always conscious of the fact that I was part of the conditioned/trained species. Still, I was young and didn't know how to bridge the astral and the conditioning. The only recourse was to engage her in as many different aspects of life so that she could decide HOW to manifest her own talents. That was one thing I did right, I believe. She remains curious, and engaged, and compassionate.

Except for the Montessori schools, that kind of exploration is not available to the majority of children. And why? It circles around again to those same underworld figures intent on subjecting them.

Given that, however, the cycles seem purposeful. If I were the subjugator, then I must learn to be the subject. If I were the whore, then I am the "john." If I were murdered, than I become the murderer......just as you so eloquently stated above. Cycling over and over until we break through our self-imposed bondages.

During this Venus retrograde I have been thinking/feeling about the Source which of course could never be named,measured,comprehended but which, at least in my consciousness, is also the sweet smiling,loving countenance right there in my heart. I am feeling this so close and also remembering something I understood at my father's funeral which is that the ego,the personality arise with the body. I was able to release my father and myself in that thought and there was peace in my heart/body which I never knew with my father when he was "embodied".
Well now I am rambling-wish I could have everyone over for potluck and we could sit around talking over any and all subjects.
I love this day cycle/night cycle theme-so much easier to prepare for the rough times when they are measured in years and not decades.
I will be so happy when the elections are over although I dread what is coming in 2012 now that corporations are people too.

Clymela, those poor personhood corporations. They are drunk on gathering more power and resources and all the money they can get because they are terrified. They have always been terrified, they at least know they cannot do anything by themselves so they need to gather thousands of people around them and call themselves one person and in a sense they are. I hope to get away from dread of 2012 and turn my energy to more joy and love because I don't have any idea what is going to happen to each individual including me, by 2012.

I know a woman with whom I grew up. She had a very very difficult life journey but I never heard her complain, she was always happy always zestful, always took care of every one, including her mother who lived to 99, her brother who was brain damaged from an accident at the hands of a drunk driver, her husband who found out a couple of years after they married that he had MS. Cathy taught school had no children, all these people lived in her home, she struggled to make ends meet with the medical challanges and if anyone ever deserved to go into old age with some joy and peace it is Cathy, she has the purest heart of anyone I have ever known. All these people died within the last three years and last night she had a major stroke and wasn't found for 7 hours, she is struggling today.

My friend never saw anything in front of her but love and how she give the people who passed her day something to smile about to be happy about. Today I don't care what happens in 2012, I don't care if crazy people are going to win this year and be running us, I don't care if we voted for them or not or are in their party, somehow each of us bears some kind of responsibility for their existance, somehow we gave them power over us, just being afraid of them indicates we gave our power over to them. What I really care about is can I give someone a smile or kind word that might need it, can I just for a second or a minute make someone feel their burden has been lifted. I don't have money, they say I have a bad, really bad case of cancer through my body, I am exhausted from chemo, and we have liars, crooks and nut cases running this country right now, but I feel like I am the most fortunate of people today because it is a beautiful day, and I have been fortunate to have inspiring people through my life including this forum.

I just returned from an art opening up in Cherryfield....................one of my former students has bought a building, & it was a preview for next summer. There were 18 artists represented, all the work very good........... professional. There was a 2nd opening that I didn't attend up in the other direction, equally impressive, I know, because my friend had some of her work there. Even though none of the artists I talked to today knew about the Juice Conferences, it's as if the "thoughtspeed" generated by them has reached here, ( collective unconscious), & is making this happen.

Sally, yes, the "see/saw" of duality/polarity, and the rhythm of things too.

Although I like the "Kybalion" by Three Initiates and free on the internet covering this subject, the first 75 pages of "No Boundaries" by Ken Wilber is Great on helping us recognize polarity and therefore on to the unity or union of opposites perspective.

My favorite example of his is the bowl shape which is simaltaneously convex and concave. One shape requires and defines the other.

We can say the shapes are opposite and stay in duality or CHOOSE to see their union. Higher perpectives are great, eh?

Martin Armstrong is quite the analyst. I think he rediscovered astrology. Hehe! His business cycle model, from which he calls market turns, to the day, is based on PI, 3,141 days, and sub cycles of PI. He describes businesses to have challenges at the quarters.

For sure we are being run by people who can't seem to grasp the big picture, they can just give you a headache.

Whoa!! to this season of Venus rx in Scorpio: I learned last night of the treacherous waters a friend of my granddaughter's is trying to negotiate-17 years old essentially not educated, not raised, not loved standing on the edge looking at her life saying that she has to get a job and I don't even know where to start (she is asking for help). Here in this Berkeley region there are kids who hang out together on the streets forming their own society, banding together, taking care of each other because no one else is for all kinds of reasons mostly drugs, poverty and mental health issues. I didn't understand until talking to her,can't believe that no one is reaching out to these young ones.
I want to get my degree now so that I can be part of organizing outreach for these people. Good God! I have one connection in the community organizing world and I will utilize this connection but the CA State University offers free education for those my age and I think that I am going to take up this opportunity and I won't need a lot of time to accomplish this-(I did go to school in the 70's but quit to go to work.) I would at that point be in a better position to scratch up some resources for these young people.

Seems I recall Sally saying that this Venus rx would be personal, Clymela. But look at you! Making changes because of a need! How awesome is that? And yes, we have talented young people in this area with absolutely no avenue to express it. We've contracted with some of them to do carpentry, painting, etc. Perhaps there's a way form a neighborhood opportunity network. Hire young people to do any number of things, including yard work, etc.???????

I am regretting talking about my desire to go back to school-too early and I am just recovering from a serious bout with a virus. I was so startled to hear this young woman's plight and so want to share the help and support that I received when I was cornered by life at a young age.

Sally, I have read we are in the eye of the hurricane and now entering the other half. I believe the other half will much more devastating. I believe the other half adds the disintigration of our currency to between zero and one half its current international value.

The system we are dependent on is the status quo. I will be as pleased as anyone if our economic/social system rises from its ashes in 2 yrs to begin a higher rung on the social evolutionary cycle. And I'm not saying it won't; but, birth pangs will be felt.

Sally, to which cycle are you referring? Martin Armstrong says the market bottom will be June of 2011, but we will probpably experience the destruction of the markets as they drop like going over a waterfall. My curiosity runs along the Pluto through Capricorn time line.

The full moon shone a spotlight in my face & woke me this am. 2 hours later it is just setting below the tree line in the Northwest sky, as the sun is poised to appear above the tree line in the Southeast, the sky in delicate tones of pink & blue!

Dreams so intense last night and early this morning that I feel as though I was really away all night not just snuggled in our bed.
The first real rain and our yearlings are shocked I tell you- shocked that there is water everywhere. Evidently they didn't remember this from last year when they were still babies. Our mature Empress cat is not shocked of course since she is around 8 years old and has seen many winters now. Morgana says that we are supposed to be entering a La Nina year which is usually dry although we may get some of the northern wet-I hope so. I have known years when it rained before Thanksgiving but then was dry all through the winter.
