You just made me think maybe Americans should be looking to old Europe on the people level since they seem to have survived the chaos in their countries.

We got our tomatoes planted this weekend. I always feel better when I get some sunshine, lifts my mood, energizes my spirit.

Last night I watched "The Brightest Guys In The Room" about Enron. Oh my shingles!! how upsetting. I had forgotten-that Enron went bankrupt and then 9/11 and then California got Schwarzeneggar-I am convinced again of the attempt to take over the world. I know in my heart that Schwarzenegger was put into place to destroy California and the State employees pension fund. I imagine I am part crackpot here.

I do not quite remember which book in the series, but Carlos Constenada wrote of sitting with Don Juan in a park. Carlos was in an altered state. Don Juan was teaching him to recognize the difference in etheric bodies -- the difference between humans and "others."

The other day I watched Obama give a statement about the Times Sq bombing while standing on LA soil, there to assess the disaster in the Gulf, and wondered if he was still eager for his job. The Brits...No Diebold!

Britain's opposition Conservatives got more votes than either Labour or the Liberal Democrats in the UK's parliamentary elections yesterday, although those two left-wing parties together got well over half of all votes cast, leading to speculation that Liberal Democratic leader Nick Clegg will lead his party to form a ruling coalition with Labour's Gordon Brown, keeping Brown in the position of PM.

During the campaign, Clegg had advocated changing Britain's electoral system from one where local people vote for the local party that will present its candidate to Parliament, to a more standard proportional representation system where local votes are replaced with a nationwide vote, with each party getting a number of seats in parliament in proportion to the percentage of the national vote it got.

Clegg also said that he'd give whichever party got the most votes would be the first he'd work with, and right after the election results were in, he reached out to the Con's David Cameron implying that if Cameron would embrace his proportional representation changes, he'd support Cameron for PM.

The Cons, however, don't support these changes - and neither does Labour. Which will make the next few mos very interesting as kingmaker Clegg keeps pushing for this.

The entire nationwide vote, by the way, was done on paper. No voting machines in the UK. No Diebold. No Kathleen Harrises or Ken Blackwell.

And TV ads for candidates or parties are banned in the UK, so the election lasted only a few weeks and very little money was spent on it.

We could learn some lessons from the Brits.

Morgana, i've been doing the same thing. The intentional visciousness is criminal. Their coalition is the mob arm of government. Instilling fear is their speciality.

The ongoing oil fiasco (begun during a particularly nasty Mercury retro) will not be cleaned up OR stopped anytime soon. It is a disaster of epic porportions. Great swaths of land will now become uninhabitable. Primary agricultural areas will be gone in a blink. Karen- I so agree with you. I wept in the first days of the "spill". The thought I had was that "we" hit our mother in a vein. I knew from the beginning that this is the beginning of the end of "Western Civilization" and the end of life as we have known it. I think from a man made point of view the recent Greek debt crisis is just the proverbial tip of the iceberg, as the one billion euro bailout package is just kind of a joke, as it is like putting a bandaid on a shotgun blast wound. After only one day of an upswing, the markets are again skeptical.

I think by my birthday of August 17th there will be some really dramatic 'game changing' developments related to sovereign debt; perhaps even several major banks and/ or country defaults, etc.

Elena Kagan is going to fill the news for the next several months — we’ll learn more about this cypher than we ever wanted to know — so we’d best examine her particulars now. She’s most assuredly not my dream girl but I understand why she’s Obama’s selection. She’s an insider pick, and altho the confirmation will be an ugly affair and protracted by the GOP’ers, who hope to burn time and legislative opportunity with this process, she will sail thru — barring some scandal the Pubs can create, and of course they’ll try.

Last night, Charlie Rose had a small group of know-it-all’s discussing Kagan, of whom they approved, and one mentioned that this duty is likely the one Obama savors the most — interviewing SCOTUS candidates. This is his ‘area’ … and with Kagan, he has someone who is brilliantly skilled at shifting outcomes. Her opportunity to do that, of course, can only come with seniority but she’s a mere babe at 50 which gives her plenty of time to exert influence.

Kagan is Solicitor General of the US, and her previous vetting through Congress is both helpful to this process and problematic for Senators Orin Hatch who supported her and Arlen Specter who didn’t. Her background is stunningly impressive considering she’s not one of those ’silver spoon’ folks — she joins Obama and Sotomayor as middle class success stories and taught at the U of Chicago where she developed a friendship with the Prez. Elena attended Princeton and Oxford and received her law degree from Harvard U, where she later served as dean of the law school. Obama’s selection of a female candidate was not necessary, as was deemed last time, but optional. The Court has never had three women seated before — in fact, if confirmed, Kagan would only be the fourth woman in its history. That runs counter to the Old White Guy meme, so that’s progressive.

There are culture war tidbits to consider and you never know who will step up to make a big deal out of them [but trust that someone will]:

She’s single — the gay folk want her to come out and so do the anti-gay folk, licking their chops. This is all speculation with no apparent indicators and I think it’s one more bit of self-righteous psychobabble that we insist on divining this woman’s sex life based on nothing more than appearances. If she’s straight, what’s she supposed to do? Announce that she’s a spinster?

As a single woman, she’s childless — which threatens Dominionists and strikes at the heart of a nation preoccupied with a woman’s right to choose versus her duty to bare children. We are not so far removed from the accepted meme that a woman’s uterus should be a production line. I think of this as the ‘broodmare effect’ that paternalism has pounded into our very bones. Not everyone needs to or SHOULD become a mother. I can show you countless examples of that here in the Pea Patch, believe me.

While Kagan has worked for two Democratic presidents and argued before the Supreme Court, she is not a judge. 40 of 111 Justices had no experience at the bench and it’s only in these last couple of decades that we’ve filled SCOTUS with seated judges. Many in both parties have been opposed to this kind of isolationism but it looks like the Pubs will make much of it. They’ll make much of everything. As Senator Leahy said, Obama could’ve nominated Moses, and Republicans would be asking for his birth certificate.

Banksters and their Giant Casino

The Financial Times is reporting that European lawmakers are working hard to push through legislation for more regulatory oversight of the hedge fund industry, despite Britain's new govt begging to hold off.

The French and Germans (not to mention the Greeks!) have had it with a few dozen banksters in NY and London using naked CDO swaps as bets against European country's treasuries - their debt - with nothing to back up those bets.

The banksters have been playing "Heads I win, tails you lose" ever since Phil and Wendy Gramm - with the help of Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich - blew open Wall St in 1999 and 2000, turning it into a giant casino.

Banksters in London and NY have extracted 100s of billions of dollars and pounds from investors over the past few years, and they want to keep robbing us in their legalized betting schemes.

American and British pols are now so addicted to ["their"] cash that they're afraid to stop them, so the job falls to the Germans and the French.

Pray for the success of these nations in stopping this cancer on our economies.
