You know, all of us have speculated on the extent to which the government would go should there be a complete soocietal breakdown. We've talked about some of that on this board. I pretty much see it as a double edged sword. Remember the Civil War, the whack jobs during that era was nuts enough to try it. I'm not sure the South has ever gotten over the beating it took, and the destruction loosed upon the citizenry by the Union Armies. I don't doubt that were it to recur today we would see the same outcome and the same atrocities. Lot's of folks on both sides still want to punish the other. Today however we're far greater then 13 Colonies and I would hope that saner minds would prevail.

The citizens of ( my town)the 2 trailors with blue tarps over their roofs ( been that way for the 19 years I've lived here!) signed my petition with out hesitation. The $15. fee for a salt water fishing license, will be A LOT for them to pay, for the privledge of catching a mackrel for dinner off the municipal pier! ( an oily, strong tasting fish)
The Pres. of the Senate that I met at a political rally & following Rotary dinner, last night, is more concerned about getting that license fee into the State coffers from the Feds, than people going hungry. When she comes out to grassroots campaign with me this summer, that may be the first door we visit! Their kids are respectful and good students, I have spent time with them in the library.
I have my work cut out for me!
In fact, at what point can I tell her that her 1840s farmhouse, she is so proud of living in, may have belonged to a family for several generations who were forced to sell it for economic reasons & move into a trailor? Not a good selling pt. downeast here!

Just returned from an exciting but exhausting time helping my beautiful daughter and rowdy grandkids move approx. 800 miles. Then, i see that qop is not in the running? And where are the other feisty AWers?

I was away from the news entirely. Interesting to observe that the dialogue has not changed. The talking heads are still on the same theme/meme!

Heya Karen, there are AW'ers that can't get logged in, Sally being one of them. 800 mile move, wow that is a pop. Though I moved 700 miles from Southern to Northern California.

I have mostly turned off the talking heads, I can't take the GOP lies and game playing makes me yell at the tv machine. While every one is making hay of Eric Massa, someone needs to remind these jackasses that the man has cancer, brain I think, and his mis-behavior may have more to do with illness then ethics. With Lawrence O'Donnell sitting in for Keith Olbermann we've stopped watching till KO gets back. O'Donnell goes for tabloid fodder the more sensational and negative the more he smiles. O'Donnell must love that dirt.

The brief run for Senate seems to have increased my visibility & standing in the community.
A conversation between me & the bloodworm dealer ( ships world wide) re: educating the local youth to civic's & their citizen's responsibility, know the facts, and step up to the plate, is getting legs......a former AmeriCorps Administrator friend of mine suggested making it into a Vista initiative and going for grants, and the idea is snowballing with every person I talk to. We could have a program that sends kids to DC to spend a week with the Close-up Foundation (Introducing them to their Gov. & it's functions. you can see Close Up on Cspan at times.) The Government CLub in Machias Memorial High School, does that, & it needs to be more widespread.
Our beloved town Democratic operative/chair has died & his funeral service is today. We could do this initiative in his name!
The Gov will be attending! I will speak to him if i get a chance! ( even tho I know he is term limited, & not overly popular at the moment!)

I think this suits my experience & innate skills, more than legislation.......

Especially today with the disgusting news out of Texas regarding the schoolbook news: Thomas Jefferson eliminated from textbooks due to his desire that state and church be separate in this nation. Evidently he found Christianity a problem and did not want this nation tied to it. This from a man who believes that the planet is only 10,000 years old.

Well that is not clear: I saw an interview with a Texan proud as he could be about this decision. This Texan is the one so proud of his belief that the planet is only 10,000 years old.

Have been busy solving problems, and haven't been around for awhile. Hope Sally is doing ok. Just received my census form to fill out, and on the envelope, it says "YOUR RESPONSE IS REQUIRED BY LAW". Does this mean that you can be prosecuted for not filling it out, and returning it?

Good we can laugh together, because we are going to be cast out into the wilderness ( Unorganized territories, we still have them in the USA) next week, to map out new logging roads, ( closed this time of year due to snow melt) & enumerate the Mother bears coming out of hibernation with new cubs!

Off to the ortho department at Kaiser-too long trouble with the ol knees but I wanted to take advantage of my sign in freedom. I used an inordinate amount of Vicodin during the last wet part of winter because the ol knees were not bending so I am giving in.
This time I just tried changing my password and that worked.

I managed to "enlighten" 2 moderate conservatives today. I mean REALLY turned on the lightbulb by giving them info ( connecting the dots) to a subject that directly affected their lives.....& then led them through the logical steps of critical thinking, until the WHOLE PICTURE fell into place for them, Eureka moment!! Then recommended Zinn's People's History. & enlisted them into my youth movement!
Boy was THAT ever satisfying!
