MONOPOLY

Monopoly is a board game whose invented in 1934 at the height of the Great Depression. The rules are simple, you take one of the symbols of the game, everyone gets the same amount of money, you roll the dice and travel around and around the board until someone wins most of the money and property. Game is over and then it starts again.

The Monopoly game we are playing today started in 1988 when Saturn and Uranus conjuncted at 29 degrees Sagittarius on February 12, 1988 6:33pm EST and the dice started rolling on this particular game. The first roll of the dice landed on the S & L Scandal, involving so many people and particularly Neil Bush who slid like slime out of Denver so he wasn't tainted. The whole mess cost taxpayers billions of 1988 dollars, that would triple today.

Next comes the first square to that conjunction in Sagittarius of Saturn at 29 Pisces in 1996 and the Campaign Finance Scandal between the US and China became public, with China giving hundreds of thousands of dollars in exchange for favors from Bill Clinton, none were proven but the ones who were indicted on fraud had direct links to Clinton and Gore.

Before we get to the Saturn opposition to its 1988 conjunction we have the Grand Conjunction of 2000 in Jupiter/Saturn in Taurus with Uranus in a square to it from Aquarius pointing the direction we were headed in the world and that direction when coming from Aquarius is global. Jupiter/Saturn in Taurus is the oligarchy saying the next 20 years belongs to us and the square from Uranus says "nice try." Uranus and Saturn are moving into place to square their 1988 conjunction. Uranus is an outer planet, a slower one than Saturn and the outer planets always win, Uranus is going to break up that dream. I don't know how, but the dream of Oligarchy as a form of world government will be broken. http://news.goldseek.com/GoldSeek/1238998620.php

No doubt they've had some success, when Saddam's so called sons drove up to the banks in Baghdad right before the US strikes and cleaned those banks out of trillions, Uranus was in a sextile to the Sagittarius, an opportunity presented and they or someone took advantage of that opportunity.

Pluto's final transiting conjunction of the Saturn/Uranus Sagittarius conjunct rewarded the Oligarchy with the 700 Billion bailout and is shooting for over a trillion as I write. That Pluto transit however had the long term affect of putting the oligarchy on notice that there are pitchforks out here. The behavior of "the bankers" lead me to believe that they believe they have the government and taxpayers over a barrel, I believe the government thinks that as well. The coming Pluto/Saturn/Uranus t-square in the triplicity of the cardinal signs makes me think the sands of fortune will be shifting under their feet. This triplicity is tightly tied to the US and the Federal Reserve Bank in a very destructive manner. Because Mr. Geithner and President Obama's South Nodes are close together and Neptune will soon be conjuncting that point will find themselves in a hole and trying to dig out. The banks "jumped the shark" so to speak and they are arrogantly trying to pretend all is well with them. I think they know this not to be the case. A few banks have already paid back over three hundred million plus interest to the government because they don't want to be under government regulations. If Obama and the Congress is smart they will make sure the regulations are followed with or without TARP money.

It won't be until late Dec. 2017 that Saturn will return to its place at 29 Sagittarius, then it will move on toward a conjunction with Pluto in Capricorn, that I think will be close to "Custer's Last Stand" before Jupiter/Saturn form a new 20 year grand conjunction at 0 degrees Aquarius

Monopoly is an interesting game and I think will find itself back in fashion quite soon. Losers can become winners and winners losers on the roll of the dice and in a flash the game has changed. That's where I think Uranus can take the rest of the world.

TimmyJ the Michael Hudson article you posted on the last blog is really good and quite chilling. He works exclusively with Wall Street as a model and I think he is absolutely correct as to what is and will continue to happen. Like Wall Street however, he doesn't seem to take the innovation of the masses into account. He talks as if we are sheep unable to follow anything or anyone but the bankers dictates, not just us but the masses world wide seem to be discounted on what they might and can do. Very few take into account it seems what people's innovations could take us. Once again our input is looked past as unable to take part in community revival. I'm sorry about that because it serves to make people feel powerless. and yes Timmy J. although I have not had time to look at the Moyers interview, last night I did hear about it and I think this is the tip of the iceberg (which is melting by the way)

QOP, good article on Monsanto, I will never trust that company or anything they say.

Joanna, I love the Astrotable site, I keep forgetting it's there, but it is a fantastic resource.

Sally [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Max Kaiser is a well known economist in Europe and is very popular because of the accuracy of his economic predictions for the US and the rest of the world. He said, and I have said before that Bush and Obama (and I don't like to use their name in the same sentence) are basically held hostage by Wall Street and the bankers. Paulson and Geithner and the Treasury dept is run by Wall Street, and they have Obama over a barrel and I do believe that to be true just from the observations I made from the time Paulson came on the scene.

Bravo, Sally!

I've never had any interest in playing Monopoly. It seems to emphasize the worst of our natures in that the winner has a temporary feeling of some misguided power. It would be interesting to do a psychological study of monopoly players -- i wonder whether or not it would illustrate the lopsided notion of equating power with what you own. Astrotable highlights this -- as you do. (Uranus conjuncts my Sun, and it seems throughout my life i've been gifted and challenged awake with new/different realities.)

Boy Sally, that is a great assessment of the situation! Thank you........I feel like I have BEEN the MONOPOLY board, with items landing heavily on those points.
March '88, I came to Maine with a friend to house sit for his cousins, and house hunt because he had fallen in love with it on a prior visit. 3 years later when slimy neil & the, S&L had wiped out my client base.......I was able to stay with him while house hunting myself.
1996, I was back in school with a callow youth of 37, Yale Grad Professor, who believed that chaos produced the best creativity....when I had spent my adult life trying to clear away the chaos of an alcoholic parent, then spouse so the I COULD BE PRODUCTIVE! ( disappointment because according to L Greene, I had long anticipated Saturn in my 10th house bringing me the reward I had worked for so long!) Not to be!
Then 2000, found me signing up for an AmeriCorps job for 2 years, which double income without taxation,( Widow's Pension/stipend) allowed me to buy a computer. Uranus aquarius.
This is why I have been screaming sky is falling g..............& why I have now stopped! All over the internet people are sqauwking, danger.... betrayal, Boy are they late to the protest!
Yes Obama is over a barrel, hog tied, but he's smart and aware, and will work through it.
carefully............
Here's an item from Maine..David Bright of Maine Farm Bureau Marketing's wife Jean Hay Bright, an organic farmer ran against Collins for Senator...
He was Kucinich's Maine campaign manager last election!
http://www.bangordailynews.com/detail/103147.html

Meanwhile, Maine’s dairy supporters — the Maine Department of Agriculture, Maine Farm Bureau, University of Maine Cooperative Extension, Downeast Business Alliance and others — are working together on a solution.

“Our first effort is to keep these farms in business,” David Bright of the MFB Marketing Committee said Saturday.

Sally-thank you for this article. The analysis is wonderful and I love your pointing out the elitist attitudes that think the "masses" can do nothing. that is over-I believe that people were fooled for a bit there (just kidding I have written about my amazement that people believed the crap they got from the uber-right media outlets)and now that everything appears to be lost they want to know what happened.
Qop-it was the reports of friends who had "private retirement funds" that I really woke up to what was going on-now the jackels are after my "protected" benefits-SSA and my government pension.

clymela [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Oh that Saturn/Pluto conjunction in Capricorn will show a few arrogant theives who is boss. My sister and I and Hillary Clinton all born with that aspect and of course Israel-whoa on those who would try to get over on anyone when Saturn is living with Pluto.

Sally [TypeKey Profile Page]:

You are so right about the Saturn/Pluto conjunction Clymela. As with any aspect the energy can be used for good or for ill, but no matter how it's used, it is tough that's for sure. A whole generation was born with that aspect and while some have misused the energy, most have used it to push their way through to power. I would not want to have to negiotiate with one of them because I would lose for sure. Hillary Clinton could easily go down as one of the greatest Sec. of State's ever. She has charm and a rock solid back bone, dynamite combo.

Sally [TypeKey Profile Page]:

It seems to me that what we term as elites forget that it's the masses from whence they arose, not only that, the masses put them there and let them stay, and it's the masses that forget that it's we who elevated them. Interesting dynamic. I believe that one day there will be an understanding of the energetic interconnectedness of all of us and I believe that day is drawing closer. It's not "them" vs. "us" it's all "us." As Czar Nicholas of Russia could have told anyone (if he were still alive) it isn't enough to be King.

clymela [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Sally your words are so to the point. When I was young and struggling to find my path I encountered those who were at the pinnacle of my personal world and I had an image that came with a teaching and that was of someone at the very top of a pyramid but the point was all those in their positions which held the one the pinnacle in position-no one rises alone as you said.
I have similar intuitions about Hillary-she is just polished enough and strong enough to get some things accomplished. I always liked her toughness-we were born the same year just in between my sister and I-a survivor and someone who can get back to the plan even when knocked around.

Is anyone else watching MSNBC? It's whacked!
The R W is morphing into a cartoon, upside down, mirror image of the extreme left...Glenn Beck actually showed clips of marching Nazis, Obama is going to take our guns, and lock us all in those detention centers??????? Frank Gaffney had all sorts of imaginary end times visions of N K disabling us with electromagnetic rays or something..like an earnest 6 yr old, cheney on steroids & prozac! Obama's success in Europe has sent them right over the edge! they are perverting the concept of the Revolution into a corkscrew lying on it's right side,.
I think MSNBC is showcasing them so we can see, because we sane liberals would never bother to tune in to Beck!

* ... Transits As Nativities

There’s another consideration that’s entirely different, and that’s what’s going on inside the affairs that are underway, their fundamental implications and following evolution, which may not be immediately evident in outward events. Remember that every event chart is also a birth chart – decisions, commitments, conflicts, and resolutions are being born which will hold within them the tensions and the aspects of the particular sky pattern in formation. Thus, for instance, one might expect a whole generation of fairly remarkable people was likely born around the famed Harmonic Concordance, even though nothing seemingly of note appeared to have happened at the time. And, who knows what deals were sealed that are still maturing now which will yet change the world? A lot of what goes on during highly visible aspect periods reveals itself only later as the situations born then mature, and the subsequent transits and progressions come to fruition. For instance, a remarkable generation in which one whole birth set turns into another by progression happened not long ago, with a number of remarkable births at the time, some already famous, others headed for fame as they mature. What the upshot of this closely-coordinated worldwide crop of human beings and related events will be no one yet knows, but they are sure to resonate down the rest of this century. ... http://www.astrococktail.com/gatheringsky.html

Sally [TypeKey Profile Page]:

You are so right Joanna, the law of physics - by the time you see something or hear something it's already past.

In the 80's when Neptune and Uranus went into Capricorn and Pluto made his way to Sagittarius from Scorpio the handwriting was already on the wall. When the outer planets made their way to the outer signs deep, deep evolutionary work started in earnest. All the underbelly of the US was going to be shown to us as well as the underbelly of ourselves for those who would listen and hear and begin making our own changes and shifts. This country, this world will never go back again to where we were or to what we thought we were. This is the spot we begin to create again even while all is in upheaval. Family, friends, community is the order going forward. Don't forget your honey and cinnamon, it cures a ton of things.

Speaking of billions, the crown jewel of the Middle East - Dubai is in trouble and is not what it appears. Dubai indeed seems to have built their house on sand along and is crumbling before it's done. Dubai became part of Emirate Dec. 2, 197l, it became a city June 9, 1833 so you can see it was quite some time before they were anything but a sand dune and the sand and their slave trade and their lies makes them on the brink of being once again absorbed by the desert.

The Republicans and their talk-show tools have really outdone themselves, of late, raising their status from mere caricatures to full-blown cartoons.

One of their finest moments came two weeks ago when, with great fanfare, the Repuppetans unveiled their “outline” for an alternative budget…that contained no numbers.

NOLASharon [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Talking about wacked, QOP - it is downright chilling. It's not just MSNBC, Glenn Beck is on "Rush Radio" and he has a new networking group called "9-12" and he just goes on and on about the "tea parties" and about how people have to start working against what is now happening in the US (socialism, communism, need I say more), and the other wackos on the station talk the same way, and all I can think of is how they are all stockpiling guns so that Obama can't take away their gun rights. Before it was just the "militias". There is going to be bloodshed coming down the pike, some sort of civil rebellion by the fans of Rush & Beck & Hannity who want to see Obama fail (they are still talking about him paling around with terrorists & Rev. Wright. AND, they contradict themselves all the time right on the air but people probably miss it).

Sally [TypeKey Profile Page]:

The Republicans need to dry up now and go away. Michael Steele (RNC) is asking for help from the GOP and they can't even seem to do that. They seem to be steadfast behind keeping Al Franken from being seated but that's all I can see they are doing with some degree of success. Their Gov. is not up for re-election so he doesn't need to sign or even care if Minnesota is furious and there in lies the tie up. This AM David Serota on the radio asked Rachael Maddow why the media gives them air space at all, they are completely irrelevant. I would like to know that myself. Michelle Bachman is a disgrace, or maybe just insane who knows. In looking at the GOP I think it's more important to look at who keeps their mouth shut.

Sally [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I had my taxes done last night by a CPA who has done them for 12 years. She is a positive, always sees the silver lining, nothing is as bad as it seems type and she is sure we will be a third world country. Too many people, too much world wide corruption, too many liars and thieves. It wasn't a very uplifting evening. I am going to get money back from the State so that's nice.

clymela [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I am so freaked out that Obama will only give money to the people who have already stripped us to the bone. I am so upset that Obama is EXPANDING the ability to spy on us. I only take some comfort that I didn't fall for him that hard and I have already awakened from my Neptune spell. We have been duped but what did we expect? There is nothing good going on right now in our government and any one who has any power is the enemy of good people anywhere. This is a time of deep darkness and NO ONE is coming to our aid-Obama and the Bilderburgs Obama and the Generals Obama and the bank owners all planning against us.
If you think I am over reacting explain why Obama wants to strip the auto workers who in truth make about what I do and beleive me what i make is not enough to raise a family on. Why go against workers but push everyone to shovel all our gold into the coffers of the big banks? Why the continued talk of Social Security as if it is welfare rather than an insurance plan that we have paid for over the length of our working lives and those of us born in the 40's and 50's have paid for our parents and ourselves. I am angry to watch Obama go methodically to betray all of his promises

Sally [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I always said Obama would have to dance with the devil and in these first two and a half months he sure seems to be doing that. His agenda has a lot to do with globalization and he is willingly or unwittingly a universal tool that moves this country toward revolution or the world toward revolution. Just keep watching, he did say on his campaign trail that he would have to do things we might not like, and Joe Biden in a private meeting that leaked out said "you will see somethings that will make you angry that we will need to do, but hang on, it will change." I kind of believe that, I just don't think it's what it seems, however I think people need to stand up and question and complain.

In the meantime, good for Vermont and Iowa for their stand for gay rights, and good for the White House for inviting gay families to the Easter Egg Roll.

qop [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I agree Sally. I think Obama & Biden are several jumps ahead of all of us.
But the Repigs are doing more than slow walk Franken. They are blocking several important comfirmations, to the administration.

Just another GOP that doesn't seem to know the meaning of "it's time to move on and try something different." I am off to bed guys

* Pentagon preps for economic warfare

The Pentagon sponsored a 1st-of-its-kind war game last month focused not on bullets and bombs — but on how hostile nations might seek to cripple the US economy, a scenario made all the more real by the global financial crisis.

The 2-day event near Ft Meade MD, had all the earmarks of a regular war game. Participants sat along a V-shaped set of desks beneath an enormous wall of video monitors displaying economic data, according to the accounts of 3 participants.

“It felt a little bit like Dr. Strangelove,” one person who was at the previously undisclosed exercise told POLITICO.

But instead of military brass plotting America’s defense, it was hedge-fund mgrs, profs and execs from at least one investment bank, UBS – all invited by the Pentagon to play out global scenarios that could shift the balance of power between the world’s leading economies.

Their efforts were carefully observed and recorded by uniformed military officers and members of the US intelligence community. ... http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0409/21053.html?xid=rss-page

Message from Matthew...

* April 9, 2009

Third density energy playing out; Earth's ascension progress; simpler lifestyle compatible with advanced technology; evolving human nature; "time" in the continuum; life in the Golden Age; multiple lifetimes for balanced experiencing; psychics' information sources; recap of messages' content

1. This is Matthew, bringing you loving greetings from all souls at this station. We see your consternation about events and decisions that seemingly are irreconcilable with the continuously intensifying light on and surrounding your planet. There is growing evidence of reformation in various countries around the world, but also it is business-as-usual or the same hard line in some govts; and brutality, killings and legal injustices still abound. Our beloved Earth family, it can be no other way at this juncture, as 3rd density energy streamers are lashing out with their last gasp of forcefulness as the energy plays itself out.

2. On the world stage and in personal lives, you are seeing and experiencing the effects of everything in acceleration plus the magnification of human characteristics and behavior in action. The combination of these universal forces is bringing into public view the hold that the darkness has on some individuals at the same time increasing numbers are opening hearts and minds to the light. The ultimate outcome will be lighted souls living peacefully and sharing Nature’s bounty in a wondrous world. This is what you have been promised—what already IS in the continuum is coming to pass in your linear time. ... http://www.matthewbooks.com/mm/anmviewer.asp?a=100&z=2

* G.O.P.: R.I.P.

So there it stands: a naked, pigeon-chested old man, random strands of white hair on its boney shoulders; its swollen-knuckled hands clasped over its dead genitals, looking at once forlorn and menacing, shivering with self-loathing and xenophobia, raging pathetically at its timely and appropriate defeat at the hands of Reason.

Ladies and gentlemen: The Republican Party.

With every passing day, the people who stubbornly, maddeningly cling to an obsolete ideal and who stand in the way of the cultural advancement of this country, this America, spew the base reality of their caustic ideology into the air.

The Republican Party is like a dying tyrant, mad with syphilis, ironically like that very Stalin they would accuse their enemies of associating with. How else to account for their desperation to resurrect the wraith of Joseph McCarthy; the hammy and baffling utterances from high level party officials like Boehner and McConnell; the blatant desire on their part to let the country fail out of sheer resentment; the wanton sedition of Con shit-stirrers ranging from the quasi Madame Defarge Michele Bachmann to the porcine, pill-popping propagandist Rush Limbaugh?

It is an all out assault on reason, on progress, on truth. What is the difference between the Republican Party and, say, the Taliban? A rogue by any other name would smell as rank. Their frantic accusations all churned out in a futile effort to explain their current pariah status is as pathetic and draconian as stoning a woman in the street.

I feel I must apologize for my own particularly febrile anger. It's unseemly and ugly. But finally, the enemy is clearly outlined. We can see it for what it is and what it always has been. It exists not in myth but in a reality which has plagued humanity for millennia: utter, hateful ignorance born from a fear of truth, indeed a fear of life itself; a mad and impotent pursuit of some long-forgotten ecstasy having spawned generations of paranoid power addicts who chase the past at the expense of the future, cloaking their real intentions in perfumed patriotism and the seductive swoon of religion.

It's so fitting that we are living in an age where beheadings, torture, piracy and now unbridled power mongering are all common place. Perhaps that element of humanity is going back into hibernation and is snapping at any and everything before its eyes finally close. In our lifetime the choice has never been so stark.

Don't be intimidated by that naked, pigeon-chested old man. His party's over. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/steven-weber/gop-rip_b_185447.html

Sally [TypeKey Profile Page]:

The Great Gatsby, QOP? So fitting, Uranus is in its same place as today, late degree Pisces. Jupiter opposes the Neptune at 19 degree Leo, we seem to have arrived again. Those articles are hilarious Joanna and perfect for a draggin on Venus Retrograde to go direct on the 17th of April, dear lord I can hardly wait. The GOP is pitiful and I wish the media wouldn't keep dragging them out into the embarrassment of the light, they seem even more odious, more yellow, more of a putrid stench around them. They should just stay in their lairs.

qop [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I think the more exposure they get the clearer it becomes to all that they are crazed.
Somewhere today I read that Michelle Obama got a letter of reproach from the fertilizer, pesticide companies, telling her she'll have a more successful garden if she does it with "conventional" farming ( rather than organic!)
Conventional. 100 years compared to centuries! LOL!

They are spoiling business at Mt Tremplant ski area, and wonder why the Canadian Govt. has not responded.
At NO TIME have CNN's 'medical experts" made mention of dilated pupils as a symptom of concussion.
MY, RN, Mother taught me that when I was about 12 years old! ( Probably when I kept my cool and got my baby Brother down off the 2nd floor balconey. He was crawling along the top of it!

Gore Vidal was on Bill Maher (sp?) tonight and was great, if you can catch a clip I would suggest watching him. Ron Howard was also on, neither of them was pessimestic but neither of them saw this country on its feet again. We've been stripped and robbed and life was going to change, and it is changing, some of it will be for the better in alot of ways and some of it we won't like. Both of them liked Obama as president but felt he had the weight of the world riding on his shoulders.

As I've said, the entrance of the outer planets into the outer signs tells the story of massive change, and the difference in our lives will be either one of embrace leading to exciting possibilities, or one of anger and frustration leading to bitterness. I hope to be on the side of embrace.

Sally [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Supposedly the "top talent" at the Wall Street banks don't like the way they are treated and are leaving Wall Street for foreign banks and others who haven't taken TARP money and will pay them what they think they are worth. The bankers have their nose out of joint and don't want to wait around to be fired. Dear or dear will we ever be able to find real talent out here in the rest of the world to take their place.

Pagan/religious...? it;s a day off. and I have made the most wonderfully, ghastly, magenta eggs...peeling them & soaking them in beet juice overnight, then deviling them, this AM & making pickled beets too.
Have a lovely day all you lovely people!

Hello Sally and all ......
Have been quite busy lately and haven't been on line much, but just wanted to pop in and wish all of you a very Happy Easter - and great new beginnings for the year!

Sally [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Congratulations Clymela. With Sun/Mercury/Uranus and the NN in Gemini you are not old and it all sextiles your Leo planets. This whole next year will give you plenty of time to explore what you want to do next. You have way too much energy to be happy sitting and reading. I doubt if you look "old" whatever that is, with the Sun in Sextile to Saturn, that's an "age slowly" energy. In a couple of years you are going to feel "old" but that isn't the case, you will actually be getting your second wind. Are you married or dating someone? If not you could meet someone this next year, in fact in about three or four months at the very least you will be meeting new friends who have a similar progressive (in all things) outlook. As far as the people you work with, believe me you are younger than they will ever be, it's your Gemini and Leo influence. This summer is going to be great with Jupiter in a trine to your Uranus a couple of times (direct, retrograde and then direct again.) Get away and stay away from anyone who makes you feed into the concept of "old" because you are not. Within six months of retirement you will have lost five to ten years of stress off your life and face. This is a good year for you.

clymela [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Sally-thank you so very much for your generous words and thoughts. I needed that encouragement. And yes I am planning on meeting up with progressives and finding out exactly what i want to do in this new part of life.
First thing I plan to do is volunteer for KPFA: we need honest, progressive insights and directions. With the likes of Diane Feinstein saying that she doesn't have the votes to renew the ban on assault weapons we need honesty and thoughtfulness in our news.

Sally [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Clymela, that sounds fantastic. You've a lot to offer that group.

* Witches Would Like an Apology
By Starhawk www.starhawk.org

I’ve always thought that the ability to apologize gracefully is a mark of a good leader. We all make mistakes—even popes, and whole religious traditions. An apology is a way to take responsibility, to signal a change, and to assure the world that it won’t happen again.

And if apologies are being given out, Witches would like one. It’s more than time that the Catholic and Protestant Churches both apologized for centuries of persecution of Witches, Pagans and those they deemed ‘heretics’ for believing something different than standard dogma. How about an apology for the Papal Bull of Pope Innocent the 8th, in 1484, that made Witchcraft an heresy and unleashed the Inquisition against traditional healers, midwives, and any woman unpopular with her neighbors for being too uppity? It’s high past time to apologize for the Malleus Maleficarum, a vicious document written by two Dominican priests in 1486 that created a whole mythology of Satan worship, attributed it mostly to women, and unleashed a wave of accusations, torture, and judicial murder that have haunted us ever since. An apology won’t do much good, now, to those accused, tormented, and destroyed because someone coveted their property or needed a local scapegoat, nor to their children left motherless or fatherless centuries ago. But it might clear some air.

One of the reasons many of us modern-day Wiccans still proudly call ourselves Witches is to consciously identify with the victims of those persecutions. The Witch persecutions are a suppressed history of abuse. Just as suppressed memories of childhood abuse can hamper us in adult life, suppressed cultural histories still constrain our emotions and our imagination in subtle ways. The Witch persecutions left a residue of fear inside women—that if we speak too loudly or too forcefully, become too strong or visible, we will be attacked. They made imagination, intuition, and magic suspect. They set a pattern that judicial torture is sanctified once your enemy has been labeled ‘evil’. And they made nature Herself something dangerous and suspect.

We use the word “Witch” consciously, as a way of reclaiming our power as women and as men. We reclaim the sacredness of our bodies and our sexuality, the healing traditions rooted in an understanding of the natural world, the power of intuition and imagination, the respect for nature and the love for all living things. As long as there’s a word someone can use to shut down thought, we’re not free. Claim the word, shed light on the hidden history, lance the wound, and we can begin to heal.

So yes, it’s time for an apology. The viability of all nature’s life support systems are threatened today by what our civilization has become. What better time for the religions of the book to signal a new respect for the religions of nature?

Sally [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Great article Joanna, witches have gotten such a bad rap over the centuries and all because of, well dare I say it, MEN, not just any old men but a whole raft of James Dobson types. They didn't even know what Wiccan/Witches meant.

joannaoregon [TypeKey Profile Page]:

* ... Did Rush accrue 100s of local radio affiliates across the country because his political views are mainstream? That's obviously not it. OK, so why IS his show so "popular?" Why do 100s of stations around the country carry his show, the most widely syndicated talkfest in the country?

Glad you asked.

The real story is not generally well-known. The only reason I know is through my covering the business of radio for years for several major daily newspapers and also, for industry trade mags like Radio World.

It's because--ready for this?--Rush's show was, and presumably still is, given away for free to many local radio stations.

This shocker is because of a little-known practice in broadcast syndication called a "barter deal." (Barter deals were briefly mentioned in Michael Wolff's first-rate recent piece on Rush in Vanity Fair). ... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bill-mann/limbaughs-dirty-little-se_b_185965.html

clymela [TypeKey Profile Page]:

HOO HOO!!!joannaoregon-I have come to think of myself as a witch really to stand in allegiance with the women who didn't give in who have kept the magic alive for us. One of the lonliest periods of my life was the one that came when I "realized' that most fo Christianity is made p stories to keep us docile but I have been blessed to move into a time of finding "god"in everyday life.
This doesn't surprise me about Rush although I am shocked. I think there is something of this order going on regarding the assault weapons-no hunter is going to use an assault weapon to bring down a pheasant or even a deer.after watching Feinstein I think that she is trying to say that without brining on her own political destruction-she was on 60 Minutes.

I wonder why men are so afraid of women? Maybe it's the recreate thing. I mean afraid to the point of hurting and killing us, to keeping us out of the decision making. Look at how few women have "a seat at the table." It's a very strange issue, maybe it has to do with the need to control and women are hard to control, in fact I don't know if in their heart they ever felt they needed to be controlled.

Clymela, try info@astroworld.us for the email, that comes from here.

Timmy J [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Sally, "I wonder why men are so afraid of women?" Let me begin by saying, understanding the reason for a behavior does not excuse the behavior. So, on to understanding the reasons.

The short answer is "Men are from Mars Women are from Venus" Back when I was studying problem solving I read a poll. People from the west and middle east were asked if your child and your Mother were drowning, and you could only save one, which one would you save? Typically those from the west would save the child and those from the middle east would save their Mother. The reason given by middle easteners was: I can make another child, but I have only one Mother.

Saving the Mother is thinking driven by a foreign, to the west, value system. People with foreign value systems will generally not be invited to sit on the council as it is believed they will not facilitate the status quo agenda.

If you follow Joseph Campbell's thinking, I think men have tended to be like the dragon, hoarding gold. If you let women on the council they'll spend the gold to feed ***everybody*** and we can't have that.

Men have played a yang role in many cultures to feed and defend the family and tribe. Yang is a package deal. It requires aggressiveness. Give a little boy a stick. See what he does with it.

My own bias is women are more value and process driven than men. From my own Father I learned little of value except without fail he brought home the bacon. Mother cooked the bacon, then she and I sat down with books. It is hard to read on an empty stomach.

Done rambling now!

Sally [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Some of that is certainly true Timmy but not all of it, check out the Haudenosaunee or Six Nations website, one thing I stumbled upon years ago was why there's the tradition of Groomsmen at a wedding (groomsmen came before bridesmaids) their job was to go find and bring the bride to where the wedding was because women didn't usually want to marry and ran away. Mostly because they were given or sold into marriage by their fathers or brothers. The practice of groomsmen began in the 12th or 13th Century in Europe. The Haudenosaunee model a different family life-style. Women have been killed, stoned, burned at the stake since before the old testament was written. The biblical story of creation with Adam and Eve was around way before the organization of the bible. Nearly every culture had a creation and "Adam and Eve" type of story. It was supposedly Eve who ate of the fruit of knowledge and she's been attacked for the downfall of man ever since someone wrote it. Why? I faithfully watched Joseph Campbell and read all his books and he never could come up with a solid answer. I rather suspect it had something to do with the matriarchial society that existed prior to the patriarchial and that it got out of control much as the patriarchial system is now.

I cannot imagine Joanna that the church would apologize for anything that's been done to women over the last several centuries. They are still punishing women, look at the halls of the Vatican, not many Nuns there except to wash, clean and iron. If that happens then I believe we are truely on our way toward healing in this world. When the apology does come it will more likely be from the Reformation Protestants, not the new groups and the Catholic Church would be lagging behind on this one.

Goldman Sachs is ready to pay back what they owe the US government from the TARP funds, well almost ready, just as soon as they raise the credit card rates on those tax payers who they owe. So we paid them and are paying ourselves back. The banks don't want anyone to know where there money went, and oh lordy do I want to know.

From the site "Inquisitions of the Middle Age."
This sound familiar as the reincarnated monsters in the forms of bushaholic/cheneysneer?

... * Methods of the Inquisition

A 1252 papal bull authorized the use of torture by inquisitors. The various methods of torture—incl strappado, the rack, and simulated drowning—were meant not as punishment, but to encourage confession of one's crimes, and more importantly, to implicate others who could then be hauled in by authorities and subjected to the same treatment. Once an accused heretic was brought in for questioning, there was little he or she could do to win freedom. ...

"...I rather suspect it had something to do with the matriarchial society that existed prior to the patriarchial and that it got out of control much as the patriarchial system is now. ..."

With all due respect, Miss Sally, there's not a piece of artifact to substantiate such a notion. There are mostly stories about a Golden Age of great peace for both women & men... a Garden of Eden. Digs in such areas as the plains of analolia of Turkey, for instance, rather agree. It wasn't until the many invasions by tribes from the north did the inhabited world turn upside down & become a world of horror. I no longer give a rat's behind whether the cheney-type boyz are offended at such a thot of people recognizing their complicity for great criminality or not. And anyway, it's high time the "Father God" was put away as a childish thing & humans grow up instead. A Big Daddy in the sky is a silly idea imo... or a big mama for that matter. Prevading matrix of creative consciousness works...

* The Corpo Lobbyists Behind the Tea Parties

Anyone who has watched Fox News of late has seen them talking about the Apr 15 "tea party" demonstrations, which they take pains to characterize as a spontaneous grassroots uprising against govt spending that they are simply "covering."

Neil Cavuto said:

We are are going to be in the middle of these protests because at Fox, we do not pick and choose these rallies and protests. We were there for the Million Man March, even tho, as I pointed out, it turned out to be well shy of a million men.

The Million Man March happened in 1995. Fox News didn't go on the air until 1996.

Why all the effort to distance themselves from the teabaggers? It's obvious they are integrally involved--Fox has given them millions in free publicity, despite the fact that there's no evidence of "ratings gold" here. Four of their biggest stars will be appearing at the rallies, Fox Nation will be hosting a "virtual tea party," Glenn Beck is holding a $500/plate fundraiser for them and Fox has been officially promoting the entire affair as the FNC Tax Day Tea Parties:

Maybe they're afraid that if people knew that those behind the demos were the very same lobbyists and influence peddlers the teabaggers claim to decry, the whole thing would be revealed to be what it is--a hollow excercise in extremist right-wing hypocrisy.

A report by Lee Fang at Think Progress documents the involvement of corpo lobbyists FreedomWorks in organizing the teabaggers. FreedomWorks is run by ladies' man (and registered lobbyist) Dick Armey, and if they're not "organizing" the Tea parties, it's news to him. ... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jane-hamsher/the-corporate-lobbyists-b_b_186367.html

Sally [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Matriarchial was actually the wrong word Joanna and you are right they cannot find anything that indicates complete feminine rule but they do find evidence of the matrifocality type of culture, where the feminine was the central focus of the community and where property, names, laws are passed down by women. There are some small cultures that continue along the female line today. There is evidence that in ancient Greece, titles were passed to the feminine in the family and it wasn't until 2800 BC that the concept of kingship was introduced in Greece.

joannaoregon [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Yes, exactly, Miss Sally... but they did not appear to be accompanied by violence & top-down despotic rulers who made peoples' lives absolutely miserable century after century after century.

That reminds me, in a more pleasant vein, of the fun film, "Lost Boys." Grandpa, when showing his two g'sons the ropes around his house when they came to live with him, said: "We've got ruuuules around here." But what the rule was was to leave his fig newtons in the fridge alone (I think it was fig newtons). ;O)

Sally [TypeKey Profile Page]:

karen [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Oh! OH! OH! You've all hit on one of my long-time musings. The horrific treatment, and malelific mindset about women persists. As with all communal psychosis, i suspect the illness is grounded in fear. Simply, women do not need anything from a man except sperm to reproduce the species. This psychosis manifests in so many forms. Most pernicious are the structures too numerous to mention; structures that become --over centuries -- a mandate for civilization. In essence torture has been written into code.

On a personal level, i've always balked at this and been in positions formerly held for men. More was expected of me. My performances -- even those that exceeded expectation -- were devalued and derided. Now i do not "take it personally." It's not personal -- it's societal.

So, what can we do as a society? What can women do? We've already burned our bras. In fact, i only have two left. ;0

Sally [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Karen what does ";0" mean is that because the two bras you are down to are on the way out?

Women are trying to do something, I think of the courageous women's groups in the middle east trying to fight the oppression and their lives are in danger everyday. Here? I'm not sure, we seem to be losing our voice and hope, although I hear corporations trying to get into a position so that when things lift a bit they can hire women because women are the group graduating from College and going on to higher education.

qop, they really did find Dulcinea didn't they. I wondered last night what I found so compelling that it moved me to tears on her rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream" was it because she was 47, dowdy, never had voice lessons, was it because she was so very average that made her voice seem so powerful, so passionate, so full of heart? So I went on line and listened to at least 7 musical stars sing the same song, including two that sang it on Broadway and it wasn't the same, she was by far and away the best. Her voice deserves the world wide applause she is receiving, I hope she does go on because she will be a star and a reminder that hope and dreams should always be kept alive.

clymela [TypeKey Profile Page]:

She is just so full of herself in the most stunning way. An old friend and by that I mean a friend of almost 40 years sent me the video and I fell in love with her before she sang when she rolled her her hips to stuck up boy when he asked her age and she rolled her hips and said 47. She hit one over the fence there for all of us who have been made to feel less than by the likes of Simon and his rich, pretty peers.

clymela [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I lost my original post-running around getting ready for the day but about Susan Boyle: I fell in love before I even heard her heavenly voice. When Simon asked how old she was she rolled her hips and her eyes twinkled and she said "47 and Simon and his runnin partners snickered to each other but i/we knew that they could never touch her and then she sang and I think all of us who ever felt left out, looked over snickered at started to weep and out spirits soared with her.

* Life in These Untied States"

...3. People who would be forced into bankruptcy by an attack of appendicitis, who have no idea what "socialism" is or how it differs from "communism" or "fascism," were to be seen Wed out in force, self-righteously pissed off and calling Obama a socialist, a communist, and a fascist, often interchangeably. And what are their ideas about how to deal with the worst economic crisis in 80 years? "Let them go bankrupt!" Ignorance and indignation: it doesn't get any more American than that. Each of them--proud, free, unafraid to speak stupidity to power--is like a homeowner whose house is on fire and yet who refuses to let the fire fighters turn a hose on the flames because "it'll get my stuff all wet." And when the fire chief ventures the suggestion that the fire is a) going to destroy their stuff anyway, and then b) spread to other homes, he gets shut down with such wised-up, common-man arguments as, "I pay your salary!" ... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ellis-weiner/life-in-these-untied-stat_b_187862.html
