Society's Child written by 13 year old Janis Ian in 1965 and finally made it to the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. The song told a story of a young white girl who had an African/American boyfriend and the horrible treatment he met at the hands of her mother and what they endured at their school and the social pressure that broke that relationship apart. Disc Jockeys played the song and it was critically acclaimed, however the hate mail they received and one radio station burned down with the disc jockey was fired because he played the song drove it off the air.
This old song made me think about Obama and the atmosphere in which he grew up as part African part White, it also made me think about the mid 60's and the upheavals; the war, the assassinations, the civil rights marches and violence associated with them, Kent State, Watergate, enemies lists Woodstock, the Beatles, the Cold War, Hippies, Nixon's era; it was all just beginning in the 60's. This country violently marched our way toward the 70's and believing the war, de-segregation, women's rights, Rachael Carson's Silent Spring and environmental consciousness was going to be behind us and we would prepare for the "Age of Aquarius," happy, healthy and more functional as a nation than we had ever been, that's what we thought. We thought we had broken away from old thinking, old ways, we just didn't realize then that there were still people who did not break away and did not want to do so and from Nixon's day (1968) to the present they have been on a campaign to prove progressive is wrong and status quo is right, reaching their crowning success in 2000.
Nixon is gone now, as is Bob Haldeman, John Mitchell, John Ehrlichman, Agnew, Rockefeller, Gerald Ford and a host of other all dead and gone, his "minions" of the White House remain; Cheney, Kissinger, Rumsfeld, Greenspan, Henry Paulson, McCain (a wanna be) Wolfowitz, Pearle, GHW Bush, to name a few, and they have tried to redo what they see as mistakes of the 60's and 70's. They have been working on this project since 1966 when they began resurrecting Richard Nixon's failed political career and joined forces with the John Birch Society and Charles Colson's right wing evangelicals because in the 60's and 70's they didn't belong to the "kool kids" group and they were going to destroy the "kool kids" and have worked with great industry to do so.
1966 was when Saturn at 18 Pisces, opposed Uranus at 18 Virgo and here we are 42 years later with Uranus at 18 Pisces opposing 18 Virgo Saturn, not a repeat of the 60's but a culmination of the 60's/70's. John McCain can represent Richard Nixon and Barack Obama, not MLK or JFK but RFK who never got to finish the work he was starting. It's a telling side note that Richard Nixon's daughter Julie, is supporting Barack Obama and today's Saturn/Uranus opposition falls across Nixon's 1st and 7th house in Virgo and Pisces with Saturn in the 7th, in 2008 Saturn falls in the 1st, repressing the energies started under Nixon. He also has a 29 degree Mars in Sagittarius opposing Pluto in Gemini and transiting Pluto in crossing that degree of Mars, again pointing to an end of the Nixon "minion" reign, who are now old men. They believe they have gotten what they felt they were entitled to, "fearful" respect, power, the money, the oil, the war, they feel their failures have been vindicated and they are now truely the masters of the universe.
The Virgo/Pisces axis with Saturn and Uranus isn't the only repeat on Nov. 4th, the Scorpio 21 degree Mars in square to 21 degree Neptune in Aquarius also conjuncts Neptune in the 1966 chart washing the last rements of the 60's and 70's away.
Aspects don't simply act on the day of the aspect, the energies and meaning of the energies unfold of days, weeks, months and years. Their impact plays out through eclipses, transits and progressions, (planets go around the earth over and over, repeating and repeating energies and each time, each person or generation gets to decide what they will do with those energies everytime they arrive.) With this opposition we get to decide once again whether it will be the status quo (a losing battle in any generation) or a new way of being and thinking, taking a chance and stepping out of a comfort zone. Those comfort zones are an illusion anyway because a big storm or wind can come along and throw us out.
The Saturn/Uranus opposition also impacts the Sun of Sept. 11, 2001, will the "new President" be tested with a terrorist attack, whoever the new President might be? or does the opposition indicate a loosening of fear for the American people? The test could be from the financial sector and it might be a test for Wall Street, not the new President at all.
Some final thoughts on the 1966 and today's Saturn/Uranus opposition, Saturn opposing it's place is a new beginning, Uranus opposing it's place is a shift from the old to the new. What is the old? Since the 60's it's been a progressive trail, hard fought and won for sure, but a progressive trail and Obama is the child of that trail and the "status quo" we've all been living under until 2000 is civil rights, women's rights, anti-war, pro environment, pro respect for all people; after 8 years of the 60's folks from the then "status quo" who lost their fight against progressives on the killing fields of Vietnam, be the ones to rise up and revolt this time? Not us, not the progressives, but the fearful, those who love repression. So far they have been gaining ground in the last 8 years. Whose child will win? John McCain of the conservatives, or Obama of the new and democratic? The revolution in America will go forward, which camp will begin the revolution or has already begun? With Syria being bombed, the 700 billion dollar bailout with every dime thus far going away from main street and back into "fat cats" pockets, the open fight of the GOP to steal this election with impunity, Palin and Obama hanging in effegy someplace in this country, who will revolt and win control for the next 20 years?
We can turn a corner now, we can shut the door on the last 40 years of turmoil and look for a new way of doing things, a new way of being, actually it's quite simple. Can Obama, the child of the 60's help us turn that corner and move from the battles to peace, or a true hope of peace? I don't believe the Bushs, McCains, neo-cons, Cheneys of the world give up that easily, but we will see if the stomach for their brand of power and control, greed and self-absorption, fear and hatred can still find world wide support to continue. In this country there is a wariness out there and you can actually hear it loudest from the GOP who have endorsed Obama, there is a wariness creeping around the world. Let's give peace a chance, we haven't done that in my lifetime; can Obama do it, I honest to God don't know, but I do know McCain/Palin cannot and I do predict an Obama win with the 60's coming to a close.

Gee Sally, You do such a great job of piecing the odd bits together, to create a resplendant NEW picture!
Speaking of stitching odd bits together," I got a chill up my leg" as Mathews would say.
Yesterday whenI was listening to the woes of the lobsteremen's wives: They are not getting eough per lb. to cover their fuel costs per trip, because the middlemen are selling too high, and buyers aren't buying.
( sound like oil men?) I remembered that Rev. Moon owns the BIGGEST wholesale seafod buying company in the country,to fund his other projects.

Wow Sally, such a pivotal time in history that we are part of and responsible for. I am visualizing a totally blue map, really, everyman has lost his shirt.
McCain and his air quotes make me nuts, Palin's right wing lingo is like nails on a chalk board.
Meanwhile we have our Obama pumpkin sitting on our front porch, looks great. My husband got the stencil off the internet. Every one who comes by recognizes it and says something positive. Course we also have a redwood tree in our yard where I have tacked up tree faces that look real...year round, oh and a gunny sack witch on a corn broom hanging beneath the covered porch. My husband roasted the pumpkin seeds, yummo!

Okay I watched the Obama'mercial, my husband sat and watched it (he didn't wander away), my son watched it. I think he knocked it out of the park, and I am glad that he won the nomination. He was near the bottom of my wish list, and after coming to know him as best as we can via the web and 24 x 7 news coverage, I think he is someone special. Yet I pinch myself, can we really do it, can we the people change the tide? Si se puede! Yes we can.

Me too! It moves past the earlier progressive worries that he is too centrist. Funny how the repigs are trying to hang the socialist label on him!
Elections SHOULD include election programing LIKE THAT! FREE! After all the air waves ARE public property ( tho you'd never know it.)

I remember the Phillies won in '80, 81? Several of them lived out in my Jersey community and the celebration went on all night.
Correct me if I'm wrong fans, it may have been the Eagles? ( pretty sure it was the Phillies.)
Yes Sally; That was the first thought that was running through my mind ss I made my coffee this morning. Candidates used to get free air time!
ANother randomn thought...........MPBS had, ( may still have,) a radio program on Fri. afternoons, where they played the top tunes for that week in history, and read items from the Bangor Daily News for that week. One of the articles from 40's?, was a public service by the Govt. stating the premise that spicy Mexican food, caused a rise in violence, and they had cooking classes for the immigrant women to teach them "American" cooking. At the time , 1991 92, the increase in Mexican Restaurants was burgeoning..............
Is there a connection? We all eat Mexican food now. ( disclaimer: not a fan of hot peppers, I preferred the middle European cooking so prevailant after the War!)

Jon Stewart was hilarious last night. He had Obama on and asked him about the Bradley Effect, his question was "since Obama was both Black and White did it concern him that when he went into the booth to vote would his "white' side take over and try to vote for John McCain." It was pretty funny.
Good for the Phillies for winning the World Series, the east must be thrilled today

I am sure Obama is going to win this election and I think it's already in the bag and the "insiders" know it. That said, I also think something's coming down the pike and they know that as well. Biden, Powell, Liberman, Albright and then last night Clinton have all alluded to the fact that when things happen we may not like the way Obama has to handle it but to hang in there with him because he will do what he thinks is in the best interest of the country and he will work for the people. There is something coming, we just have had too many warnings from too many people. Last night Clinton said "you may not like what has to be done but it will be in the long term best interest in this country." I do have faith in Obama but I don't think it's going to be an easy 4 years.

Thanks, Sally! I was hoping you would post before the election, and the astrological picture you paint certainly fits the unusual mood of the country right now.
What has struck me most in this election season is the energy of the people. We are all riled up! Guess that's Mars. And the often-expressed feeling of being part of a Movement--guess that's Neptune: like individual drops of water becoming a massive wave.

Good read Old Mayfly of the Mars/Neptune but Mars/Neptune also is something hidden from view. There is no doubt that Obama is better than McCain and this country is desperate for something new or someone new. We have not gotten over Gore and Kerry and we are sick to death of this present group, but I still think something is coming we won't like and Obama is the "spoonful of sugar to make the medicine go down." So be it, he's smart enough to help this country and to empower us.

I never will get over Gore and Kerry--especially Gore. (I've got fixed signs on the angles, and really know how to hold a grudge.) But if/when Obama is sworn in we'll have a legally-elected president and I'll fly the flag again.
Interesting what you say, Sally, about something coming. Maybe it has to do with our precarious financial situation. Many Americans don't realize that we are now a debtor nation and that our creditors are our trade rivals. Some months back when Bush talked about "getting tough" with China, I snickered. How can you get tough with the guy who has been bankrolling all those withdrawals on your house equity? And the right-wingers were (and are) ready to sell everything--including our roads.
Sorry, going to put away soap box now.

I know that Biden, Clinton, Powell referred to something that wil test us, we won't like, that will start on Jan 21, etc., but I honestly think they are just being honest about the financial situation and the fact that stringent measures will be called for, the fact that we have not nearly begun to feel the effects of the recession and inflation, the fact that we will have to tighten our belts - and things along this line (and in Biden's case, a international affairs incident seems likely to test the new president). I believe they are just preparing the American people for the fact that the picnic is over and we will now have to pay. Us Americans tend to complain when we can't be instantly gratified, you know.

Sally, that is a nice article on retro astrology. It also reminds me of a program I was watching the other night about fractals - geometric patterns that keep repeating in nature and throughout the Universe until they are infinitesimal. Maybe the concept of repeating patterns can be applied to astrology too.
Anyway. I think everything in the Universe is based on mathematical equations, much like the 360 degree zodiacal wheel divided into 12 sixty degree houses. Perhaps that's what gave rise to numerology. Sometimes I just keep ranbling and don't know what I'm talking about, but I do know that I never heard that song by Janis Ian - Society's Child. The only one I remember by her, was called "At Seventeen" which I believe came out in the late 60s or early 70s.

Boy did you help bring back some memories, Sally. What a terrific comparison! Love the way you think.
Many of us were active participants in those turbulent times. I'll never forget the massive war protest in D.C. in 1969. Watching what -- the the time -- seemed to be a disruption by anarchists, but in retrospect, i'm sure it was infiltration by the gov, giving them an excuse to gas and disburse the crowd. A massive crowd composed of all ages, races, veterans, many seriously wounded. A peaceful crowd chanting to end the war.
Yes, we all thought the world would shift. A shift did occur, but not necessarily for the better. Indeed those same controlling/power at any cost folks returned with vigor, and ideas about how to enact their dirty work. So yes, Crystal, it seems the repetition of patterns is fully in evidence.
qop, the grocery clerk reflects a particular mindset. What she didn't do was talk over you -- so many do -- using phrases repeated to her incessantly over the airwaves. She appeared to listen, but instead listened selectively. She may use some of your words to share with friends in support of her own position attempting to prove how right she is.
And yes, wv, that's exactly what Clinton did. . .the results of which qop experienced yesterday. About the only media reporting with a bold eye is Democracy Now, the INN report. And, in a comic way John Stewart and Steven Cobert.
Mayfly, i'm continue to be entirely baffled by the logic involved with deflating wages in order to concentrate wealth, then producing cheap goods in unregulated countries and conditions to sell back to the increasingly poor USians. Now those once cheap goods -- still inferior in quality -- have become too expensive to buy. Of course, this is coupled with the outrageous unregulated lottery of derivatives and other backdoor trading deals of worthless paper. It's like the cheap goods we buy. Their worth a fraction of their cost, and are liable to break down after first use.

Karen, speaking of cheap goods--for several years now I've been noticing how cheap U.S. army uniforms look. The fabric (patterned in desert camo) looks so stiff and uncomfortable. And the boots look cheap, too.
For some years after WWII there were "army-navy surplus" stores in every sizeable town. I bought a pair of WAC slacks and they were beautifully made, wool, and very warm and comfortable. A friend bought a Navy pea jacket, and it was top quality. All made in the USA.
Now we dress our recruits cheaply, feed them cheaply (as the "private contractors" profit on those MREs), house the wounded in sub-standard mold-ridden wards (also run at a profit by big GOP contributors) and throw out on the street those whose hearts and minds have been broken.
"Support the troops."

Well I don't trust anyone or any words right now. what do Obama/Clinton mean when they say we won't like "it". We know what McCain means to do we have watched for the past 10 years-remember the impeachment.
I loved Obama the other night but when I see him, with Clinton I am reminded that Clinton will have sex with women like myself (when i was young of course)and pretend he never knew her the next day and work to take away the welfare and food stamps and school grants I need to get out of the place that lets dogs like him piss on every doorway.
I feel sick at heart to see the powers that be setting up the grounds for stealing another election. I know that there is a blow out for Obama but we will never "know" it and I don't trust Obama to follow through on his Neptune dreams if he does somehow get through.
Old Mayfly-yes military surplus was something and our soldiers are facing another uear of 'stop loss".

Clymela, I don't blame you for being realistic and not wanting to get your hopes up. Real change can take a long time (but not always, depending on the precipitating events) and there are always obstacles and cave ins...BUT, there is also a lot of reason of optimism in the air.
We are electing (and I'm 99.9% sure Obama will be elected) the first African American president of the U.S., something I thought was harder to achieve than electing a woman, the Republicans have finally lost their grip, and the man we are electing is a person of rare, and elevated character, the type of person that has what it takes to be a great leader. He needs our positive thoughts and support to achieve this though.

We are electing an African American as president (and I'm 99.9% sure Obama will win)and this is something I thought would be harder to achieve than electing a woman. He is also someone of rare and elevated character that is of the type that has made for some of our greatest leaders, but he needs us to achieve his goals, and he needs us to believe in him.

Hillary running in 2012 would mean that either: a.) McCain "wins" on November 4, stealing as many years for the GOP yet again. b.) President Obama is not "physically present" to run himself in 2012, or c.) Hillary leaves the Democrats to run as an independent or joins another party.
At this point, "a." is both improbable and likely to be met with ferocious and perhaps overwhelming opposition from the Dems/progressives who have learned quite a thing or two since 2000 and 2004. "b." would be most unfortunate, but is the only conceivable way that I could see Hillary running, since the Dems obviously won't permit a primary challenger to a sitting president of the same party affiliation to go forward. "c." is perhaps equal or greater to "a." in term of improbability, given the Clintons' senior status within the party.
That being said, Hillary would make an excellent New York governor, and if she wishes, probably will go on to do exactly that.
I have every reason to hope and believe that Obama will win and complete at least one term in office. My concern, however, is all of the exceptionally powerful energy (Uranus-Pluto Square, Pluto Opposition natal US Sun, Uranus Square natal US Sun) directly impacting the US during the better part of what would be his second term, from 2013-16. Any number of outcomes could take place that directly and dramatically affect the US and the President at this time, among them the dissolution of the Office of the President and perhaps even the country itself as we now know it to be. I think this will be an extremely stressful and challenging time period for anyone to be President, and I would not want the job myself or wish it upon my worst enemy. Hopefully Obama will prove himself to be of the caliber of Franklin Roosevelt or better still, and is able to help channel and direct much of the powerful energies at work by then into productive use.
Speaking of the Uranus-Pluto Square and all that it entails, plus with Pluto preparing to settle into Capricorn in a few weeks for the long haul, I have long believed that during this period, we will see the death of the nation-state paradigm, and the birth of something new.
With revolutionary advancements in communication and technology over the past century that have connected the world and brought everyone much closer together, I think our institutions haven't quite caught up with the times and shifting social perspectives. City and State boundaries established a century or more ago had more relevance to the people of those times -- most of whom counted their feet as their most reliable and only form of transportation -- than they do for most people today. These things are going to change radically over the next several years.

A friend of mine had a very interesting interpretation on this prediction.
That Obama might decide he didn;t want a second term. He is the catylist for change, and once that is set in motion, would want to move on to something else. ( President of the UN?? Supreme Court?) ( It will be a tremendously draining 4 years.)

The fireworks were set off at 8:30. Great timing, since it was too damp to do it in July. There ae also very few lawn signs or bumper stickers, no one wants to advertise their choice! The forward projection.? a self contained island to get through coming difficulty.
Just saw Obama walking down the street with a costumed Malia! Sweet! ( KO)

Well thanks NOLASharon for the support. I can see rereading my entry just how much I don't like Clinton's 'friendliness' how insulted I have ended up feeling with that big southern charm.
On to another road. Bernecke in the paper talking about what to do with Fannie and Freddie. There is part of me that still believes that there has been a military/fascist takeover that began with the JFK murder and then MLK and then RFK and continues. It is no accident that the airwaves have been saturated with the vilest right wing trash for literaly decades now. I find so much anger in my 'community' and those who agree with me whisper their support even now. Only in Berkeley/SF and their immediate surrounding communities do I encounter a progressive spirit. but I do believe in the unfolding of time/history and I do believe that there can be a huge change in consciousness I just don't think that it is here yet.

All that anger, clymela, is misdirected rage. The average person's interests do not naturally align with those of the corporate masters and the banksters, but the corporate masters and banksters have figured out how to use propaganda via the media to deflect public attention away from their crimes and skullduggery to trivial and irrelevant matters (i.e. celebrities, abortion, etc). It worked for many years, but now that the system itself is coming unravelled, we may finally be seeing reality and truth break through the noise.

Clymela, I actually agree with what you said 100% And, I do think the consciousness is changing as you said. I also agree with Beasley 100%. I feel that this change is going to speed up and transform! Just the fact that SO many support Obama means that they finally want change. I see that now there is a definite majority that is fed up and not going to take it any more. It will happen and the spirit and transits of the 60s are there to prove it (just as it happened then - I was part of it).
I do see the point of many the religious people (Christians, Orthodox Jews, Muslims). Everyone wants good values, and no one is in favor of abortion, but we still have to protect that right. And, most of all, we have to be vigilent against the control that religion wants to take, which is just another form of fascism.
The fascism has been there. It is as in place as it's going to be because this is the point where it comes to a stop and will lose it's grip. I strongly believe this will happen. Obama will win. The good guys will overcome. The transformation will take time but it will be joyful.
All religions seems to study the battle of good and evil in mankind. We all have the ability to do good deeds and to do that which is not for the highest good (even if it's just allowing evil to flourish). Even people we see as our heros have not been so pure (when my mother lied to me and called it a "little white lie" I was very hurt and angry, and didn't see the difference, it was still a lie; but now as an adult I do see the difference). Maybe the fascism goes back even further than JFK - it's part of the control of this planet by what people call the illuminati.
I do hear your pain and have felt it myself. I did not mean to sound non-supportive. But I do see a New Day dawning and I am joyful and excited about it.

They seldom show him on TV where we are subjected to loooooong speeches by the red party! All the MSM mentions is Biden's"gaffes," But the REAL PEOPLE on the ground who are listening to him, are WITH HIM!
They should call his bus "The Plain Talk Express."
ANd MSNBC just said Al Gore has been intense in FLa. and may have won that battle for Obama. ANd where are the CLintons? Howard Dean. Undercurrent the Dems are fighting mad and determined. We'll win!

You are right NOLA, a new day is dawning, it won't be tomorrow or even in another two years but it is dawning and it will look very different from the place we've been for the last 200 or so years. We do need to keep the vision of that new day out there. We are now seeing the vision of the hippies in the 60's come to pass and the vision of the ideals (only better) on which this country was built but never completely actualized, will also come to pass.

Palin takes prank call from Canadian comedians
Published: Saturday November 1, 2008
MONTREAL (AP) — Sarah Palin has unwittingly taken a prank call from a Canadian comedian posing as French President Nicolas Sarkozy and told him she may make a good president in eight years.
Much as I dislike her......this was hard to listen to.
This after she outshrilled my running water as I was washing dishes in the other room this morning.

Here's a really scary article.
ANd the repigs are fear mongering?
"spiritual warfare "adherents believe that demonic forces can colonize specific geographic areas and individuals, and that "spiritual warriors" must "battle" them to assert God's control, using prayer and evangelism. The movement's fixation on demons, its aggressiveness and its leaders' claims to exalted spiritual authority have troubled even some Pentecostal Christians."
The message of the video borrowed (and presumably watched) by Wasilla mayor Palin was this:
Society can be transformed by mapping strongholds of demons, witches and "spirits of witchcraft", and through driving those out through "spiritual warfare". The result will be the almost complete cessation of crime and addiction, almost 100% Christian church membership, the growth of farm vegetables to enormous size, and a miraculous reversal of environmental degradation.
There's a lot here................

The election chart for Dixville Notch at 12:01 AM shows 27 Leo 48 rising which trines Pluto and the Asteroid Juno at 29 Sag 18 and 0 Cap respectively. Just beyone the 27 Leo 48 rising is the Asteroid Ceres at 0 Virgo. So we have the ascendent of the chart trining Pluto and the two Asteroids trining each other in earth.
Sally, would you care to comment? I can't read it . Pluto has so many meanings and in the 5th house, does that mean youth? Well, the youth haven't lived up to their promise to vote! And the two asteroids trine in earth.

He wins alright and he wins big. I promised a friend of mine that I would not write about Obama's karmic/destiny chart with the United States until after the election. She has too many fears of something happening to him, but this guy was sent straight out of the eithers to the US at this specific time for a specific purpose and it will unfold over the next 4 years. His destiny roots can be traced right back to the first slave ship. I have been holding my breath for months not believing what the astrology was telling me but now I really believe this is it and he will win.
Barack Obama probably doesn't know it yet but he will learn that he is truly the President of the people and he will empower us to rise, maybe empower the people in other countries as well, to take back our voices. There was a little 13 year old girl in Somalia who was raped and stoned to death yesterday for adultry with 1000 people watching. People all over the world are going to think if America can stand up and elect a black man they can stand up to their powers that enslave them. This is a new day for all of us. Obama will win and I believe it will be a big win.

I agree qop. A wonderful thought to wake up to.
Obama's destiny, tied to each and every one of us, also explains why so many resonate to him. His speech during the 2004 democratic convention was his clarion call. I remember all of us being wowed by his message. This is powerful stuff.
I also can't help but think about those who have used their righteousness to inflict horrible pain on others. . .as the child who was stoned, the cults of viciousness, the swaggerers who've lined their pockets on the blood and sweat of others. This gluttony is coming to an end. Those who have participated in these horrors will be he most affected by the coming shift in consciousness. It has already begun, and it is necessary. It will take all of us to implement a sustainable future. Don't get me wrong, there's a part of me that would be gleeful to see the principle of retribution play out on some of these monsters. Yet, i would only be sustaining the hatred, a defeating energy that only feeds on itself.

Republican leaning Dixville Notch went for Obama!
Dixville Notch, NH (AHN) - The town of Dixville Notch, New Hampshire, with a population of around 75 people and only 21 registered voters, has picked Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) to be the next president of the United States. Obama defeated Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) by a margin of 15 votes to 6.
Dixville Notch, which opens its polls for voting at midnight Eastern time on Monday evening, has been the first town to tally its ballots in the country for decades.

Thanks Morgana for putting up the Dixville Nox chart. I've been torn on tomorrow as being the "election event" chart because of so much early voting, I think the Soltice Chart might yield more of an outcome. But if for fun we do pick the Dixville Nox chart, as we've discussed before, it's a difficult chart for an election day (except my Mercury retrograde at 29 degrees Libra in 2000, and 29 Libra direct for election) none the less, I find it interesting in the Dixville chart the midheaven is in Taurus, ruled by Venus. Venus is in a separating square to the Saturn/Uranus opposition, but in an applying sextile to Neptune, that says to me that the Dixville folks took their chance on the idealistic candidate; Obama.
This has to be a tough night for Obama and his family, especially for Obama and his grief showed today. It's lucky that he doesn't have to campaign tomorrow but his emotions would have to be running pretty high. The ruler of his 9th house is Libra and Venus is at 1 degree Cancer and Neptune is in the 9th house, his grandmother meant a lot to him on several different levels. As always when a family member passes it's the family of your youth (his sister) who you can best share your grief because they were there together.
Funny what happens to a person when the energy of someone you love leaves, it kind of goes out of those left behind. I noticed today that Obama seemed smaller and thinner and more pulled inward, it will help him that he went home for those couple of days to see her.

The positive side of Obama's grandmother dying before the election, is that he now has one more on the other side pulling for him.
You know I voted early by absentee ballot, thinking that it was the safest way, but I saw on the news today that a lot of absentee ballots were being disqualified because of the poll workers deciding that signatures didn't match those on the voter registration cards, but who decides this? Suppose somebody has Parkinsons or something, and do they notify you when your ballot is disqualified b/c of an illegible signature? I'm now thinking that it's best to do early voting at the polls, but then that's another racket, so it's a lose lose situation.
Morgana, I'll be popping a lot of corn tomorrow (well, it's already tomorrow on the east coast). Lots of butter with that for me.
I'll be sorely disappointed if Obama loses. He deserves to win.

It was impossible to get a sense of how Obama will do based on where I was. The woman in line at the register, behind me was for mccaine and I was allowed to hold up the line while I fed her some Dem talking points!
I was there because our Princess Diva supermarket dynesty owner's big chain market, has some whopping high prices. SHe seems to be cluelessly Repub. in her marketing choices. In a town with demigraphics: over 50 % over 50 years old, average income $20,000. she carries loin lamb chops @ $14.95 per lb.????? but NOT ground lamb patties!
( My twice monthly menue item when I could get them.)
SHe was out of the $1.49 white eggs, had only $1.89 brown eggs, but I got them in the little store for brown .99c a doz. SHe would NOT let me talk politics at HER cah register.

I've just been lurking here for the past several months, but Sally, I had to respond to your recent Obama comment downthread starting with the words "He wins alright and he wins big..."
As someone who has appreciated and respected your (IMO) often circumspect, and even somewhat elusive responses to many readers' direct questions over the years (including mine re your opinions on what really happened re 9/11) I felt a jolt of pure positive energy when you said so naturally and matter of factly that Obama will win big, and has an amazing destiny re the future of the U.S. and perhaps even the entire world.
Many cynical people on some "conspiracy sites" with whom I usually agree, and even often admire, are now saying that he is basically just one big super slick fraud pre-programmed by the elite behind the scenes to fabricate real change, so as to cool down and divert the rising 'energy' of the masses.
I SIMPLY DON'T BELIEVE IT! my instincts have always been pretty good, and I think he's the "real deal" in terms of being a catalyst and transformative force for long term positive change, even though we all know that the short and even medium term economic challenges will be 'way beyond' daunting.

Ha Joanna, I have two sons who have strangely gone conservative on me (like their father) I just stopped talking politics with them, they aren't however religiously conservative I take solice in that and my two liberal daughters.
Believe me Grizzly I do have definite astrological opinions regarding 9/11 but have thought it best not to put them out there in the public. I do think however the truth will come out one day.
I know what they say about Obama and I agree with you I believe him to be the real deal and millions agree with us, however, that said that's not the big deal with Obama, the big deal is us. We are ready for change, we are ready to leave the fear and angst behind and look to the future that's why this man has so caught hold of us. When there is a sense of hope in the future and joy in change a person or people are more creative, more imaginative. Take any life event, a new baby, new job, new house, a new way to go to work, a change a shift, any shift brings in a different energy into lives or countries.
Think of the fears and emotions this country, in droves, have been ready to step over for a chance to take back their country and lives. People have felt hopeless the last few years, it's felt dark here and very sluggish. Even if Obama turns out to be not a great President the people will now keep going toward the future. Obama cannot stop what is going to happen to this country, he cannot stop the world wide financial crisis and we will have to go through what it is we are going to go through but it will be with more creativity, imagination, a better attitude toward each other and our fellow man.
It is never ever the event or person that happens to us that makes the difference in our lives, it is always our response to the event that changes our lives for the better or the worse. We can take events and people as opportunities or disasters it's up to us. Hope this all makes sense.

I don't know if the stationing of the first brigade troops (previously in Iraq) to the U.S. has been previously addressed here, but I noted this morning the following article that appears on Prison Planet about two additional units that are to be deployed here as well. This will result in 4,700 permanent combat troops deployed in the U.S. and reporting to Northcom and Homeland Security. Link information is below. Any thoughts on this? I read it just a few minutes ago and I am deeply disturbed by this information. I don't think it's paranoid to wonder what this portends, especially in light of news reports about all the dirty tricks, fraud, vote supression and electronic vote-flipping that have been popping up in the last few weeks.
Like Rachel Maddow, I'd like someone here to talk me down with any astrological info that would be palliative. I guess I can't help but wonder why this is being done unless TPTB are planning something they know the people are not going to let go down without a fight.

qop, I have really mixed feelings about the so called consipacy sites, i.e. Rense, What Really Happened, What Does It All Mean, etc. Sometimes they are really lucid, one article making total sense to me (as with 9/11), and then the next article sounding like it should be the cover story of the next issue of the National Enquirer (for instance "Bush Recently Detained at Camp David by Delta Force Troops After Being Caught Trying to Flee to Paraguay To Avoid War Crimes Prosecution" (sounds like a great wish fulfillment fantasy, though!).These sites are also sometimes rather heavy on UFO kidnappings of our politicians (although actually how could the evil Darth Cheney possibly behave as he does after surviving limitless heart incidents, unless he has in fact somehow been re-engineered or at least 'tweaked' by outer space aliens??)
Sally, I'm certain you have made the right decision re not going public with your thoughts on 9/11 in light of the recent political climate. Also what you say about Obama's inspiring others makes huge sense; IMO meeting the definition of a real leader, as the person capable of bringing our best selves to the forefront and preparing us psychologically for an enormously challenging financial/economic environment necessitating huge changes in our lifestyles and habits.

First numbers are trickling in from Indiana and Kentucky. Obama has the early edge in IN, McNuts is leading in Kentucky, 1% reporting.

Just saw a long line outside the University of So. FL because they ran out of ballots! They are waiting on some official to send over more.
I was wrong about where Mc Cain a.k.a Old Sourpuss will be when results are announced. He just flew back to AZ from CO.
I have to brace myself for a possible Obama loss. Just saw an oldish white woman on TV outside the polling station saying that she voted for Mc Cain because she doesn't like the way Obama was raised, and that he also hangs out with terrorists. I wonder how many more think like her.

Not as many as you fear, Crystal, for their time has passed. And in four more years, there will be even fewer people like this lady remaining. But that does not matter now, because they have already become irrelevant by their inability to face up to the future and reality.
This is now our time, and the time for anyone who cares about our collective future.

I love the symbol of Joe the Plumber Gerry. I have been fixated on the TV, sometimes not breathing, sometimes wrapped so tight I could hardly move, shushing at anyone who spoke. My granddaughter was here for a bit and she whispered "Daddy what's wrong with Mimi, help her, she's your mommie." My son said "it's ok honey Mimi is watching history in the making and she is trying to milk every second of the time." That is so true and they finally left.
qop, what happened to Susan Collins? I am beyond thrilled that Dole is gone, just beside myself with that one. We have a right wing religious nut in northern Colorado for a Representative and she is losing badly. I was surprised at Chris Shea in Conn. but he's gone. Sorry Chambliss is still there.

The reason I believe Obama is the real thing - even if I may not always agree with him - is that I am from his generation (born a month apart), have shared some of his international, multicultural experience - and with an Aquarius ascendant close to his, I hear someone who articulates the same outlook- idealism rooted in pragmatism, accepting and bridging differences, serving the common good

One can't help but think had he been more positive, the race might have been closer, but luckily for us, it was not.
Rest assured, there will be no honeymoon for President Obama--he will be blamed for the cold of winter and the dark of night, so we must all strive to keep that positive spirit and attitude alive.

If McCain had run his campaign in the same spirit of his concession, he may have fared a bit better. His campaign was an utter and complete disgrace. At least he owned up to his loss, blaming himself and no one else. That's the most intelligent thing he has done in months, and puts himself ahead of Bush, at least in that regard. I almost feel bad for the man. But he now has plenty of time to reflect upon where he went wrong, and perhaps he may yet redeem himself. That's more than what we can say for the future of his party.

Inspite of waking up so late last night, I was up early this morning, still wired from all the excitement. Already they are discussing the next presidential election on the NBC morning show - the possibility of Sarah Palin running in 2012, or even 2016. Heaven forbid. I hope I'll be dead by then. She will undo all the good that Obama is striving for during his stay in office. She'll take the country backwards. I just saw a clip of her at one of her rallies with Elisabeth Hasslebeck (sp?) at her side, and this is what Palin is saying: "Somebody once called me a redneck, and I said thank you". Huh? Bad news for America.
I think I need to take a break from political blogs, and return to some semblance of normalcy in my life. The inauguration is the next big event, unless something earth-shattering happens between now and then.
By the way, just for the records, my county in FL broke for the Dems. Hillsborough County across the bay in Tampa is where they had a problem with malfunctioning voting machines last night which contained all the early voting ballots. The pollworkers were there until 3:30 this morning, when they were told that they could go home, although the counting was not completed; not that it matters now. The reporters were trying to find the Supervisor of Elections last night to get some questions answered, but he was nowhere to be found. This is a county that has always voted Republican in the past, but I have a feeling that it went to the Dems this time, with the overwhelming numbers who voted early this year, and I'm sure the election office had some inklingof that.

Check out these numbers:
*** Highest turnout rate since '08 -- 1908: Provided the number stands, the turnout rate for yesterday's election was the highest in 100 years, according to the estimate from turnout guru Dr. Michael McDonald at George Mason University. Almost 137 million (136,631,825) went to the polls -- 64.1% of the voting-eligible population. 1960 saw 63.7% of the populace go out to vote; In 1908, 65.7% voted. It was, of course, the most people ever to go to the polls topping 2004's 122 million. That's 12% increase from 2004. For those wondering why the current total vote in the presidential adds up to approximately 117 million, note that it's going to climb. There is still a ton of vote missing on the West coast.
My husband tells me Los Angeles isn't in yet, so there is hope that Prop 8 will be defeated yet.

Hello everyone
I pretty much have been a lurker here for quite a while. I have been carrying some despondency over Proposition 8. I know that it pretty much can't stand the way that these stoooooooooopid-'Mer-KKK-ans want it to in the gay-less castle in the air they've all moved into.
I wonder if the court might just not say "OK, we hear your attachment to the word marriage. You get to keep it, but that means because of separation of church and state, that we can't sanction ANY marriages. Now, contracts, all right--that's what's what as far as government goes, but the trappings are best left to your own devisings, and that includes both Mormons and gays." Do you think anyone would be able to be this rational about it? Because from my mind this is ALL about church-state issues, just looking at the driving vEmpire forces behind it.
I'm sad that it's affected me so, though. Not because I'm "above all this," but because I really see myself as moving toward becoming post-national. I think that's ultimately our future, as elucidated in Penny Kelly's amazing channeled book "Robes" as well as in other places I've read.
It makes me want to declare myself a nation and apply for UN membership!

Morgana.... I think what is required is an amendment requiring marriage (a civic contract is what marriage is--not religious--tho those involved can invite a religious to officiate & even then the religious has to be registered with the state) to be of two people of the SAME gender & see how the "againsters" would like that!! Can we imagine the howls & gnashing of fangs. How delicious I think. At least it would give them something else to do. ;O)

Post national indeed. that is what I imagine we are headed for-nothing else will work. That is the only way the people of Nigeria will realize a reasonable rate of return on their oil or the people of Darfur realize a living wage for mining the minerals the "developed" world craves. Post national is the only hope for cutting through the disgusting excesses of Islam/Christianity-only when all are educated and have the ability to support their families and have secured access to cultural capital. Post national is the only way to discipline rogue states like the US under bush/Cheney-the pirate nature of our destruction of Iraq would be so clear if people were free of "my county". And I don't see this as anti-local.the sense of place that lets us know what grows best in our soil, etc.

Clymela, you are so right. Interestingly, when right-wingers hear this kind of talk, they question our patriotism and call us socialists and communists, not realizing how much they, too, are being screwed.
In a way, we have to thank Rev. Wright and everone else who affected Obama's life and made him who he is today. Rev. Wright spoke a lot of truth, although he probably could have put it in more palpable terms, but Barak Obama went beyond that to the higher levels where we are all One (he has no choice in a way, as he needs to appeal to as many as possible without compromising himself; but in his case, the desire for unity is for real).
I am so proud of him.
I looked up the meaning of his name and it is very interesting:
Being Jewish, I knew Barack means "blessed."
Hussein means "handsome one."
Obama means "bending or flexible" in Luo.
The Blessed, Handsome One who is Bending and Flexible!
I've been told the astrological associations of some of the letters:
O = Cancer; B = Taurus; A = Aries. R = Aries;
The O and the B's make him very nurturing; the A's and R give him drive. I forget the meaning of the other letters (N = Virgo)
Also, the word for soul (ama) and part of the word "mama" and "papa" are in his name.
Meanwhile, check out the lead article on Marianne Williamson's website:

Well well well...........I have discovered the root of conservatism. In Bangor....
As a former public school teacher, I must take exception to the picture of a young boy on the front page of the Oct. 31 issue of the BDN holding up political signs. Children this young do not comprehend the political process. They get wrapped up in the brouhaha and the views of their parents.
When I taught fourth grade and administered the MEA test, as 4th grade teachers did throughout the state, questions with regard to local, state and federal government issues were included (this area was not included in the fourth-grade curriculum of our district). The “powers that be,” in their infinite wisdom, chose to include such questions in the local benchmark assessments the next year. Most of the 4th graders who responded to these questions had little if any idea of the whole concept.
I had a similar experience when living in Fort Kent. Children as young as 3 and 4 were picketing in front of the local supermarket with anti-abortion signs. It makes no difference which side of these issues you are on. Children should not be used as pawns for adults.
I feel that “straw votes” are much more appropriate at the middle school and high school levels when students have a better understanding of the process and can do some independent thinking.
At the very least, if the BDN feels it is appropriate to include pictures such as the one which appeared on the front page, they should be relegated to another section of the paper.

I believe that this is the direction we on this planet are heading. This is progressive seeing that we have nothing if part of us is starving or iving in the darkness of ignorance. The hardest part for me is staying out of anger and hate. I am learning how to stay focused on what I want to see notfocusing on what freaks me out.
Joannaoregon-I agree that it was a blow-out for Obama. The world is so longing for a better US and we have that chance now.

I tried to be very non-confrontational, in responding to that woman's letter. I didn't get very far........no agreement or enlightenment .......but as a continuation of my 2 years as a VISTA working to enlighten kids, I will continue to try to break this generation to generation, continuation of conservatism ( ignorance!). It's nmot evenbased in religion so much as unthought out, tradition.

I am SO thrilled that Obama will be the next president. We got really good, almost non-stop, coverage here ... the rest of the world was REALLY interested in the US election because, even though the rest of the world cannot vote, the US foreign policy and tone has a huge affect on their lives.
Our local TV morning show interviewed a few people regarding who they would like to win, then made the comment that they had a really hard time finding anyone who was hoping for a McCain win.
I wanted to take a moment also to acknowledge Howard Dean in all of this. At the time he was running for office I felt he was very important and was disappointed that he lost. But the fact that he did lose, enabled him to continue to build his incredible idea of a grass roots movement toward the future. Without him, I do not think it would have been possible for Barak to be elected. Kudo's to you Howard Dean ..... I have to believe that two men coming from the heart, mixed with a healthy mix of altruism and practicality, will indead cause a sea change in the US political landscape, and the world.

Hi kiwijeane!
AS my Mother in law used to say "There's more than one way to skin a cat."
WHat I admired about Dean from the beginning, was his organizational skill, and his genuine desire to "Take Back America" rather than the ego driven "Wannabe pres!" He has succeeded admirably, we are on the way............!

The human capacity to hate never ceases to amaze me. Not even animals engage in this destructive emotion. I was listening to a talk show on a local NPR radio station discussing Obama's victory, and one of the callers was reporting on the amount of vitriol that was being expressed on some websites because of Obama being elected - really dangerous stuff, and can you imagine, the Clarion Fund who produced, and mailed all those CDs "Obssession" to prospective voters insinuating that Obama is a Muslim, and thus terrorist friendly, is now congratulating him on his success? As the worms turn.

I thought that the Sam Stein column on Huffington Post posted by Kiwi Jean was very good (as well as your sentiments Kiwi).
From what I can see, there are now Republicans and Democrats out there who will actually work together for the good of the country, not for the good of the part alone. Evidence of that is in the number of Republicans who actually voted for Obama and the fact that just about the entire world supports Obama. In spite of the desire on the part of certain Republicans to still fight what is perceived as the Democratic policies, there are enough sane people out there who really have put Country First!
I watched Condoleza Rice's reaction with interest. She hasn't moved towards Obama like Colin Powell has BUT she was sure sincerly pleased when she said how proud she was. Then, I've heard that Obama may keep Robert Gates as Sec. of Defense. Anything he can do to involve competent Republicans (I don't know much about Gates but have admired his honesty) will help the country. I do have my fingers crossed for John Kerry and Howard Dean to be part of the administration as I love those guys and they have earned it.
As far as organizations like the Clarion Fund congratulating Obama, that should be taken with a grain of salt, as people do have to work with his government, and many will do it sincerely while others are just kissing up to him. The dangerous element are not the party faithful but the deeply entrenched racists and hate mongers. Hopefully they will all be converted by love or die out as soon as possible. It's always interesting how something genuinely special and rare, like the first African American president of the U.S. (or like the landing of a UFO when that happens)causes many to get in touch with their souls and the higher good, and they forget to fight against each other for a while.

As a poster on DU suggested, kiwijeanie, Barack Obama is essentially "Howard Dean 2.0".
Dean was the first presidential candidate to seriously incorporate the "webroots" concept into his campaign. Although he came up short in his own bid for the White House, Dean channeled his energy in the aftermath into taking control of the DNC and rebuilding the Democratic Party campaign infrastructure with his now-proven 50 state strategy.
One campaign cycle later, Obama signs into Dean's overhauled campaign system and effectively picks up where Dean's Presidential bid left off, carrying it to the next level, and this time, victory. Certainly, we are grateful for Obama's success, but we must also give gratitude where it is due, to Howard Dean for starting us back on the path towards redemption and recovery.

Please let us change this quickly: President-elect Barack Obama is NOT the first African American president. It is disrespectful to his recently departed grandmother and all of his maternal side to keep referring to Obama as African American, or Black. Honestly and truthfully, he is bi-racial, truly revealing America’s melting pot.
Today during his first press conference, while discussing the new first dog, he referred to himself "...a mutt like me". I am hopeful that he will formally address his unique bi-racial heritage and that we can celebrate the blending of race and the whole of humanity.
What a great week; President-elect Obama!! …. surround the transition in light and love and peace

JoannaO - so wise. As a matter of fact, Obama's grandmother is part Cherokee. I knew a German man when I lived in San Diego, who claimed that 70% of Americans, both black and white, have Native Indian blood in their veins, and I believe that, because I have come across many of them. So yes, never judge a book by its wrapping. Besides, I never heard the term "bi-racial" used in America to describe a person of black/white parentage until Obama came on the scene. They were usually referred to as "black".

Eliot Spitzer: Justice Blind, Deaf and Dumb
On Feb. 14 of this year, then New York Governor Eliot Spitzer gave the country this Valentine in the form of an editorial in the Washington Post . Entitled Predatory Lenders’ Partner in Crime the piece detailed the way in which the Bush Administration reinterpreted an old law in order to shut down states’ investigations and prosecutions of predatory mortgage lenders. Allowed to enforce their own laws, the states might have been able to avert the current mortgage meltdown by discouraging the worst abuses. However, the Bush administration stepped all over states’ rights in order to aid people like Phil Gramm of USB and all the others who had jumped into the seemingly lucrative unregulated mortgage industry.

I cringed when Obama used the mutt term. Racism has its roots in that term and I am praying for the time when we no longer think in the breeders terms for designating a lineage that has been isolated from the natural flow of the world. AND anyone who has spent time on farms knows that the stroungest, toughest individuals are the "mutts".
Crystal-I have so much unclaimed native blood in me that anthropoligists routinely ask which tribe I come from-hehehe little old white girl me.
I am looking on a time when when we are all human together. I hate hearing Obama referred to as black when what he is by blood and upbringing is universal human.

I'm watching a horror show on The Learning Channel!
Christian Family's with 16 & 17 children, one visiting the other! It would be sweet & reminiscent of life in the 40's 50's ( no TV Internet Gameboy) if it weren't for the frequent interspersions of "If it's God's will"and "pray for me".
That's 33 Republican votes in the future!
