AUGUST 1 SOLAR ECLIPSE

LINDA HILL'S ECLIPSE ARTICLE

There was never a night or a problem that could defeat sunrise or hope. Bern Williams

One may not reach the dawn save by the path of the night. Kahlil Gibran

The darkest hour is just before dawn. Thomas Fuller

The morning pouring everywhere, its golden glory on the air. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

This month's new moon is a total eclipse of the Sun. Occurring on August 1, the path of the Moon's umbral shadow begins in Canada and extends across northern Greenland, the Arctic, central Russia, Mongolia, and China. A partial eclipse is seen within the much broader path of the Moon's penumbral shadow, which includes northeastern North America, most of Europe and Asia.(See NASA's site for more details).

With the Olympics starting on the 8th August, it is rather telling that this eclipse stretches across China. This could portend all kinds of happenings at the Olympics - I imagine some will be surprising, some less so and rather more predictable. Certainly I can't imagine how some athletes are going to cope with the smog and the shocking air quality, not to mention the strains hanging in the air around China's policies towards Tibet and their business dealings with Sudan (and a blind eye to what's happening in Darfur).

Certainly the big issues at this Olympics is the issue of human rights. A symbol that is commonly seen in relation to human rights is the white dove. At the opening ceremony of the Olympics, after the cauldron is lit, doves are released as a symbol of truce; all people coming together in peace and harmony. With all the concern about these Olympics with human rights issues, protests and the issue of people having the right to protest, terrorists attacks, who's going to attend and who's going to boycott, etc, it's insightful to note that Chiron, the 'wounded healer' and the story teller is on Aquarius 20: A Big White Dove Bearing a Message. It will be interesting to see just what the message of these Olympics will be. Certainly, a lot of concerns about human rights and abuses are being swept under the carpet. Note that the Olympic flame is also a major component of the meaning of the Olympics and the Moon's North Node, a karmic point, is on Aquarius 19: A Forest Fire Finally Quenched. The image shown to the left is the Olympic dove seen on the background of flames. How synchronous that the Beijing Olympics chart has Chiron and the North Node on the Sabian Symbols of the Dove and the Fire.

Interestingly this eclipse is called a 'midnight Sun eclipse' as it will be visible in places that have a midnight Sun (in the case of this eclipse, those countries that are close to the Arctic circle).

This solar eclipse is in Leo. It may be called a 'midnight Sun eclipse', but the Sabian Symbol is Leo 10: Early Morning Dew Salutes the Sunlight. One could wonder what the "early morning dew" in China might be composed of. 'Particulates' is sadly one word that comes to mind. Hope and renewal of energy and the promises of a new day are, of course, inherent.

Mars also throws out an interesting challenge, not only to the Olympics, but to the world at large. The Sabian Symbol is Virgo 19: A Swimming Race - the keyword being 'competition'. Playing by the rules of the game are also part and parcel of this degree, although Mars does like to throw some curve balls. Right before the opening ceremony of the Olympics on August 8, Mars is on Virgo 23: A Lion Tamer Rushes Fearlessly Into the Circus Arena. Apart from the obvious that athletes from all over the world will be in the 'arena' - and the fact that they need to be in control of their energies, well rehearsed and well-trained, all kinds of wild, and, possibly untamed, energies are likely to be flying around in one way or another. Mars will be directly opposite Uranus on Pisces 22: A Man Bringing Down the New Law From Mount Sinai. Laws and regulations and prohibitions are likely to be thick on the ground. The Chinese have apparently allowed three small parks well away from the Olympic arena for people to protest. They have to register with the authorities first, of course. No protesting here, nothing to see, move along. I'm driven to draw a parallel to the Christians and the lions. While the 'Christians are wrestling with the lions', the corrupt officials of the empire are twiddling their thumbs or making further plans for domination.

The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion. Traditional proverb

One can draw hope from the fact that the Olympic's chart set for August 8 has Venus on Virgo 3: Two Guardian Angels Bringing Protection.

The photo on the left is called "early morning dew in Balboa Park" - Balboa Park being the birthplace of the Sabian Symbols, I thought it a beautiful image to pass on to you - what beauty in these beads of dew - what hope for a new day! The following is my take on this degree taken from my book The Sabian Symbols as an Oracle (published in the US by Penguin NY under the title 360 Degrees of Wisdom) -

Commentary: ‘Early Morning Dew Salutes the Sunlight’ gives the feeling of freshness in the air as the sun comes up in the ‘Morning’. The warmth of the Sun is yet to create the vibrancy of the new day, but the promise is there. This is a time of limbo, when the stillness and the darkness of night are washed away as the day progresses into light and activity. However, this Symbol can signify a time known as the “dark night of the soul”. St. John of the Cross used this term to describe the experience of mystics who feel depressed and isolated, from the world and even from God. This was often prior to the attainment of mystical transcendence – when the ‘Sunlight’ breaks through and a healing takes place. This is a time of freshness where the “air” (the newly awakened mind) is crisp and the “ground” (the refreshed and renewed body) readies itself for a new round of activity. The birds are stirring and there is a buzzing in the air as all the creatures start moving about.

Oracle: There are times in our life when we wonder if we can persevere to the end of some ordeal. After a cold and difficult time, you may now be close to the end of your troubles and sensing that the resolution to your problems is imminent. The reward of relief may prove to be transitory, so enjoy it before you move on with the activity of the new day. You may still have some of the same issues to face, but now there is probably more insight into what changes and shifts in attitude can be made. Awakening energies are signaling new beginnings. Taking your shoes off and walking on the grass in the early morning is said to be very good for the soul.

Certainly, you may be feeling like you're at the end of some ordeal or some 'dark night' and in need of some light relief and encouragement for the future as Venus is on Leo 25: A Large Camel Crossing a Vast and Forbidding Desert. We need to know that there's hope at the end of the trail, refreshment and sustenance after a long journey, long ordeal, long night. With this degree there's the feeling of having to shoulder our burdens by ourself, to be the one to carry loads, to be the one others can rely on, to have to continue on because stopping could cause situations to dry up. Certainly the 'morning dew' is part of the picture when one's enduring the 'heat of the desert'.

Opposite Venus is Neptune at Aquarius 24: A Man Turning His Back on His Passions Teaches From His Experience. Leaving aside the fact that many want to turn their backs on China and all it's misdemeanors and crimes, we ourselves have things in our lives that we might want or need to turn our backs to. Whether it's a relationship that's gone sour, a job that's not working for us, habits that leave us high and dry, places that have outlived their usefulness - whatever it is, many will be feeling the need or the desire to turn away, to walk away when things just aren't working out.

With Venus opposite Neptune at this eclipse, the strain on relationships through differing values, money issues, changes in direction, etc, are bound to be on the increase. Sometimes we turn away from something only to realise that it's not the thing we actually need to turn away from - a change in attitude can bring a shift and one doesn't have to give up on something that's proved difficult in the past. We see where we can shift and move without turning our back and this can bring a healing. Of course, in some cases, walking away is the only solution.

Early Morning Dew Saluting the Sunlight gives us a chance for new beginnings - but these beginnings often come after the 'long night of the soul'. We can be experiencing sleepless nights, long nights of worry and care. Sleep is, after all, where our dreams take flight.

Further to this aspect of this eclipse is Mercury on Leo 13: An Old Sea Captain Rocking on the Porch of His Cottage. Quiet reflection is contained in this Symbol, as it is in Early Morning Dew. Times of quiet and repose and rejuvenation are very important in times like these, especially if we're needing to renew hope and a sense of purpose in our lives.

The message for this Solar Eclipse seems to be one of taking time out, taking time out for yourself and your loved ones, giving thanks for the refreshment that each new day brings and seeing hope and glory even in something as seemingly insignificant as dew drops in the morning.

Sally [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Good article Linda, this is an interesting eclipse as is the Aug. 16th Eclipse and the Jan. 26, 2009 Solar Eclipse

These are remarks I posted on the other article relating to this eclipse and the long term ramifications

The Eclipse hits tomorrow at 6:12am (Washington, DC time) with the Ascendant at the exact Eclipse degree of 9 Leo. This eclipse comes very close to the US North Node bracketed by the midpoints of Uranus/MC on one side and Mars/Neptune on the other. It's important to note that transiting Uranus has been traveling back and forth in opposition to US Neptune and square US Mars. Not surprising to hear this morning that oil companies are making $1,500 a second on oil these days with record over the top profits and with it being an outer planet Uranus in opposition to another outer planet, Neptune and Saturn to cross that point in a few months, it is doubtful that oil will ever go below $100 a barrel and we will be lucky if it doesn't rest at $150 going forward toward a more equal global society. The mutual reception between Neptune in Aquarius and Uranus in Pisces would indicate a movement toward a global society with old boundaries being dissolved. It's tough for heretofore prosperous countries and a boon for the countries steeped in bone aching poverty.

The first 15 degrees of a sign is when the situations are set up, from 15 to 20 degrees the "set up" become obvious and the last 10 degrees are devoted to trying to figure out the resolution to the problems and how to face them as they become part of our collective landscape and dialogue.

The US Neptune is in the 9th house of national politics and politicians and this is also why "politics as usual" isn't getting any traction. Not the hit pieces or negative advertising.

The midpoint of the US Venus/Neptune and Jupiter/Neptune bracket Obama's Sun. He is correct when he says he has become a symbol for the change the US wants at this time in history, and we are projecting our own desires out onto him. There will certainly be disappointment and disllusionment with him because no one can be all things to all people, but it does look as if Obama is set to win the election (if not stolen as it has been in the past) The Mars/Neptune square on election day doesn't look very good for an honest brokered election, but we will see. The Lunar Eclipse of Aug. 16 is the set up for that election day square, it also settles across Obama's NN and the the US Moon (of the people) so the rise up of the people on election day can be enormous.

There are NO political bumper stickers in town NADA! No yellow support our troops stickers.......
Nothing!
On this the eve of the eclipse, crossing Russia. China............I am sitting here stunned, having listened to the Webster Tarpley Interview on kpfa radio...........posted by clymela on the last thread. Do listen to it! ( or am I the last one to "get it"? I have been busy, and focused on MY STUFF!)
http://kpfa.org/archives/index.php?arch=27595
The earth has just turned up side down, as surely as in LA the other day! The neocons washed up, Condi prevailing over Cheney? Our hero Al Gore, complicit in the BIG world play
against Russia & China?
The Dali Lama on the CIA payroll? The Bilderbergers: Soros, Rockefeller, Breziensky, backing Obama and playing for much higher stakes than mere middle eastern oil!
Never forget that Madeleine Albright's Father was Rice's primary Professor! Read Breziensky's book "Second Chance". That is second chance at being the SUPREME WORLD power......first chance lost during the "silly impeachment" of Clinton!
in spite of Gore's attempt to carry the ball.
Tarpley reviews the events of the last year year & 1/2 creating a plausible scenario for the shift in power. They are supporting BOTH Obama & McCain!DO listen, it's mind numbing...........!
Doesn't make a dimes worth of difference.......we will be asked not to sacrifice for a silly war on terror , but a huge dangerous war against Russia & China, at the disadvantage that China holds a good bit of our debt.

qop [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Interesting........Tarpley names Bill Cohen Sect. of Defense under Clinton,as belonging to the Imperialist group, and here's an article about his "media group" buying out the Blethen Maine Newspapers., ( Bangor Daily News)

Sally, thanks for posting this interesting article. Haven't had much time online lately, but always stop by AW.

QOP, telling observation re bumper stickers. Here in Atlanta I still see quite a few "Support the Troops" decals on cars, but the decals are not new. Ironically, these decals are almost always on gas-guzzler vehicles: their true message is, "Thanks for sacrificing yourself--I need the oil."

For awhile now I've noticed that fewer people are flying the Stars and Stripes outside their homes. I furled my flag in January 2001 when the Supreme Court stole the election, and vowed not to fly it again until we had an honestly-elected President. Don't know when that will be.

Meanwhile, sites like AW, Firedoglake,Act Blue, etc. plus backyard vegetable gardening help me keep an even keel.

Haiti: Mud cakes become staple diet as cost of food soars beyond a family's reach

(This is truly sickening and very sad. But how many more millions are and will end up like the people in Haiti?)
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article20375.htm

With little cash and import prices rocketing half the population faces starvation

By Rory Carroll in Port-au-Prince

29/07/08 "The Guardian" -- - At first sight the business resembles a thriving pottery. In a dusty courtyard women mould clay and water into hundreds of little platters and lay them out to harden under the Caribbean sun.

The craftsmanship is rough and the finished products are uneven. But customers do not object. This is Cité Soleil, Haiti's most notorious slum, and these platters are not to hold food. They are food.

Brittle and gritty - and as revolting as they sound - these are "mud cakes". For years they have been consumed by impoverished pregnant women seeking calcium, a risky and medically unproven supplement, but now the cakes have become a staple for entire families.

It is not for the taste and nutrition - smidgins of salt and margarine do not disguise what is essentially dirt, and the Guardian can testify that the aftertaste lingers - but because they are the cheapest and increasingly only way to fill bellies.

"It stops the hunger," said Marie-Carmelle Baptiste, 35, a producer, eyeing up her stock laid out in rows. She did not embroider their appeal. "You eat them when you have to."

These days many people have to. The global food and fuel crisis has hit Haiti harder than perhaps any other country, pushing a population mired in extreme poverty towards starvation and revolt. Hunger burns are called "swallowing Clorox", a brand of bleach.

I saw that Neo and my heart sank. I also heard about a young man today in Michigan, he's 28 years old with a couple of small kids and he has rectal cancer. The hospital wouldn't touch him until he could come up with $14,000 for the initial tests etc. Now he has to come up with the rest of the money. To say life in the Us has changed is an understatement.

Old Mayfly, it thrills me to think there are people out there like you that would take the flag down when the constitution was so disgraced in 2001. Good job. I have an article someone sent me but it's long. I do think I will take the next post and put it up, it's all about veggies and health care. Very interesting.

My heart has been bleeding for Haiti for many years now..........I have a picture clipped from Vogue or Harpers,(80's) of an art gallery with the artists, older men, in shirts and ties, seated on brightly painted boxes, in front of their paintings.
The image of a man lifting that little 6 year old
in a yellow dress with yellow ribbons on her pigtails, off a boat to someone on the Rickenbacher Causeway.........Haitians, and the one foot on land law DIDN'T apply to them; JUST Cubans, so they were sent back to Haiti!
That was before the black ops, International kidnapping of Aristide. I didn't need to read Shock DOctrine or COnfesssions of a Professional Hit Man to see what was going on........
SO I knew Katrina immediately as it was happening. Now it has come to a small rural town near you! ( or large inner city!) MAxine Waters was Champian for Haiti but was stiffled with corruption allegations..........That was 6 long years ago.............
Happy eclips everyone. My body woke me early for the event!

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A top U.S. biodefense researcher apparently committed suicide just as the Justice Department was about to file criminal charges against him in the anthrax mailings that traumatized the nation in the weeks following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, according to a published report.
Not Hatfield!

karen [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Thank you, Lynda Hill for another revealing glimpse into these potent energies, and Sally also your pre- and post observations.

Mayfly. . .that flag may need to be retired. This group of thugs is working overtime to cover their dung. I suggest they eat it, just as the Haitians are reduced to eating dirt. This depravity shames us all.

Qop. . .you beat me to the post this morning. I don't know whether or not you had a chance to follow the link i posted up in the previous article. But, it is more than relevant to this supposed suicide. And here we go with the dung again. That particular military base plays into several clandestine activities including the missing/moved nukes.

clymela [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Boy oh boy!! all these suicides- no one left to talk. One has to wonder. qop- I didn't need anyone to tell me either but I am so grateful to those who could organize the information and present it in one whole; however I just keep saying to myself "why now? why not earlier?" that is why the Tarpley interview resonated so deely with me. My moon at 10 Leo 35.
I was referring to the scientist who has just conveniently suicided as the "justice" department was ready to begin to charge him sith the anthrax thing. It is just so interesting how people are dying most by so-called suicide so that they will never speak in court.
Sally thnak you for that piece on natural food-I plan to copy it out-lovely.

Sally [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Here I am working on my cynical nature and then something like this happens. Did they kill him like they did Dr. Kelly in England? It's just so strange and odd and convenient for many people.

I would think qop that kidney beans would work very well, after all they do look like a kidney and anyway I like them.

This is a long article about Dr. Ivins with several links, but the question is, "was Dr. Ivins a whistle blower who needed to me silenced?" Who knows, and no one will ever know still it's really odd.

karen [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Sally, way, way too many so-called suicides within the last few weeks. Again, cheney, rumsfeld (where is he nowadays), bush and so many others are madly attempting to cover their tracks. But, they cannot keep their crimes buried for long. Or can they? When will history stop repeating itself? I look forward to a mass shift in consciousness, several voices in unison saying "Stop! From this day forward we will commit ourselves to becoming HUMAN BEINGS. We will commit ourselves to kindness, wisdom and the understanding of our connectedness to the earth and one another."

Morgana [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Last I read Rummy still had an office in the basement of the Pentagon, he's not gone, just out of sight.

Morgana [TypeKey Profile Page]:

So instead of Obama having them hauled out of the Town Meeting...he talked to them. How refreshing.

NEOBuckeye [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Morgana, I wonder if Rummy still has his stand-up desk. Supposedly he can't sit down much because he has a certain, um, perpetual "male problem" that prevents him from doing so comfortably. Gee, must be all of the endless war and bloodshed and his profiteering from the same, you think?

In other news... I am only going to post the link to this with a warning, because it is so brutal and utterly senseless. You may or may not have heard about the Greyhound bus attack in Canada. All I can think of is something akin to Batman's Joker, and Eris, our recently discovered planet/goddess of discord and mayhem. I wonder about the aspects of the involved.

Wal-Mart Warns of Democratic Win

(Read: Wally World is SCARED!)

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is mobilizing its store managers and department supervisors around the country to warn that if Democrats win power in November, they'll likely change federal law to make it easier for workers to unionize companies -- including Wal-Mart.

In recent weeks, thousands of Wal-Mart store managers and department heads have been summoned to mandatory meetings at which the retailer stresses the downside for workers if stores were to be unionized.

According to about a dozen Wal-Mart employees who attended such meetings in seven states, Wal-Mart executives claim that employees at unionized stores would have to pay hefty union dues while getting nothing in return, and may have to go on strike without compensation. Also, unionization could mean fewer jobs as labor costs rise.

The actions by Wal-Mart -- the nation's largest private employer -- reflect a growing concern among big business that a reinvigorated labor movement could reverse years of declining union membership. That could lead to higher payroll and health costs for companies already being hurt by rising fuel and commodities costs and the tough economic climate.

Sally, I was just trying to remember the name of that man who committed suicide in England, and then I read your post - Dr. Kelly. I thought of him as soon as I read the account of Ivins's death by suicide. From what I read, if he did die by his own hands, he was driven to it by the FBI. They had been pursuing him for 6 years, and had him admitted to a psychiatric hospital, probably to convince him and those around him that he was a loon. Who knows all what they did to him while he was in there? It's scary to think what the authorities could do to you if they so choose. Hope his wife sues like Hatfill did.

Some of you really creative folks might find this up your alley:

Dear MoveOn member,

The "Yes We Can" video by will.i.am. The 1000+ positive Obama ads created by MoveOn members. The iconic Obama "HOPE" poster created by artist Shepard Fairey.

Barack Obama's historic candidacy has sparked an unprecedented artistic outpouring. Now, in partnership with Shepard Fairey and his Obey Giant collective, we're offering a new way for artists—anyone with a pen and paper qualifies—to share their talents and help elect Barack Obama at the same time.

It's called Manifest Hope, and it's a new Obama art contest for 2D and 3D art, from painting to photography to sculpture. The winners will be shown at the Manifest Hope Gallery online and in Denver during the Democratic convention alongside works from dozens of established and influential artists.

If you think you might want to enter, or want updates on the contest, please let us know here:

http://pol.moveon.org/mh/signup/?id=13385-3644826-3kcujpx&t=3

If not, can you pass this on to friends of yours who might be interested?

Anyone can enter. You don't have to be Picasso, you just need to be inspired by Barack Obama and willing to donate your creativity and time to the cause.

But you need to get started soon. The final submissions deadline is August 18th at 11:59 a.m. ET. That's not much time to conceive and create a piece of art, so get started today.

All submissions will be judged by a distinguished panel of judges—artists from Obey Giant, contemporary art curators, and multi-talented musicians. Finalists will be asked to auction off their pieces, and donate the proceeds to progressive organizations.

Denver will be buzzing during the convention, but this gallery is going to be one of the coolest places to visit there. Plus, the gallery's going to have an amazing party with live performances by Death Cab For Cutie, Moby, and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.

We're not going to send any more emails to the full MoveOn list before the submission deadline. So if there's any chance you might be interested, you have to sign up for contest updates now:

http://pol.moveon.org/mh/signup/?id=13385-3644826-3kcujpx&t=4

Thanks for all you do.

–Peter, Karin, Laura, Ilyse and the rest of the team

P.S. It's okay to enter a piece of art you've already created, as long as you're willing to offer it up for auction if it becomes a finalist. If you're ready to enter right now, you can upload your entry here:

JC wrote this a while ago..it';s more valid today than ever!

Crystal [TypeKey Profile Page]:

QOP, whatever else may have been said about Jimmy Carter's presidency, I found him to be the President most dedicated to world peace, and willing to speak out about injustice and unfair practices, even when it meant criticizing our closest allies. That took a lot of guts, and yet he was an unassuming man.

qop [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Economically too...........I did murals for a husband & wife bartender, a baker, ...... WHat couple living on 2 bartending incomes today could afford $1,600. for murals in their living room?
The people I worked for are the declining middle class!

Old Mayfly [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Jimmy Carter comments and art comments both evoke memories for me.

The DC establishment always is ready to chew up any non-member--so Carter was at a disadvantage from the beginning--although he did have the exotic factor going for him. At that time hardly any of the pundits, etc. had heard of "born-agains."

Carter was so right about the environment--but he wasn't very good at management. As governor he totally messed up the GA state government when he introduced a mid-level management level that more or less interfered with info both moving up and moving down. As a friend of mine quipped, when Carter is president there will be only two cabinet positions: The Department of the Interior and the Department of the Exterior. (I voted for Carter because he had been an officer on the Navy's submarine service. I figured they gave those guys tests and Carter probably wasn't crazy.)

By the time another Southern governor (Clinton) was elected, there was no interesting exotic factor and the DC regulars were totally ready to devour him.

Re the murals--during the Cold War, as teenager I couldn't understand why Stalin was imprisoning poets. Thought that was totally misguided. Took me awhile to understand that artists were the most dangerous opponents of tyranny.

Also remembering some wonderfull meals I have enjoyed at restaurants where I was treated by starving artists friends who had painted murals in exchange for free food.

Morgana [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Old Mayfly,
I don't recall ever hearing of a request for art submissions in previous elections. I'm looking forward to seeing the contributions and hoping to see that the artisans have captured the spirit of the movement and the man.

To add to this I want to say that the "waters" we are moving into following the Aug. 16th Lunar Eclipse make it important to focus on the oneness of everyone and not the little petty minds going on in the world today with their brutal wars, their kabuke elections, their manufactured oil and financial crisis. Keep your heart centered on your own power and the strength of the collective. Life is moving foward and no one knows where it stops.

Does anyone want to take this on? This whole thing smells like month old lobster bait"

qop, it's looking more and more like it IS month old lobster bait. It's too late tonight 12:30pm but I have taken a look at his chart and will get back to you on it later.

karen [TypeKey Profile Page]:

The excellent team at Democracy Now aired this segment on Ivins last night: http://www.democracynow.org/

Yes, we all know it smells like month old lobster bait -- or in our case rotted chicken livers, the catfish love so much.

Connecting to the interrelationship of all things requires that we understand on a personal level what it is that keeps us from attaining that awareness and acting from the center of that knowledge. Maybe, Sally, that's part of our challenge. To understand that part of the self that demands a singularity of expression. I know that i battle those *hitty thoughts. I've begun making them into entities, and asking them where in the heck they came from, and what their purpose is.

Sally McDonald [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I think it's not an either or situation Karen, I think we are part of the collective and uniquely ourselves at the same time with a singularity of expression but knowing that our actions and reactions impact the whole. Good question "where do they come from and what is their purpose?" I look at communes and how some attempt to live as one, with one thought or no thoughts and I don't think that is the answer, the seeming GOP way of following the "party line" in order to always win, seems effective but going against one's own values without thought of anything but winning doesn't seem to be the answer. What is the collective? I watch pockets of people and pockets of thoughts and think about all the different "worlds or realities" in which they live, I couldn't live there but I respect their experience. Since every cell contains the whole of the universe, I have to think the collective is within each singular expression at any given second. It is a conundrum and one that thinkers have struggled with for centuries, maybe even since "thought" began

karen [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Yes, i agree, Sally. What distinguishes those who act from whole (holy?) knowledge, while using their own unique gifts? We often refer to them as "masters" or "yogi's" yet this is not a once-achieved, you're-in-like-flint attainment. It seems there are always situations, people, thoughts, etc. challenging us to see the fragility of ego. To me, it's the greatest challenge of being a human, in a body that needs food, water, primping or care.

In many ways we're just horrible animals, less kindly than any other animal species. We kill for the thrill, eat without thankfulness, look without seeing, and listen without hearing. Yet the Universe is constantly revealing these opportunities that would allows us to heal ourselves and one another. Oh that astrology was practised more widely, for it is a science that delineates the path we've chosen, the learning opportunities available to us.

Again, thank you for this wonderful site, Sally.

Just in case, on Aug. 15, Mr. Powers and some invited lawyers — “the group who most stands to benefit from the knowledge,” he says — will indeed have themselves waterboarded, albeit by a professional trained in interrogation techniques and in a private location. Then the whole macabre installation will move to the Park Avenue Armory, where it will be displayed along with a few dozen other projects from Democracy in America, a series sponsored by Creative Time, the public art fund.
(It's rare that I see a creative idea that impresses me in it's depth, concept!)

Marta [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Wow, I have to say. Both here and at Starlight News ... the silence is deafening. Methinks it is better to have opinions, than not, otherwise there is just nothing or only a feeble outpouring of much of the same. Perhaps a welcome mat might be in order? An invitation to participate? Again? Where are all the voices that made this place the first to visit? At the beginning, middle and end of the day? Helloooo????????

I attended an afternoon workshop yesterday given by the Maine Arts Commission. They presented many many opportunities for us.and stood there 6 of them saying: please CALL US, with any questions, We are here to WORK FOR YOU! SO different from the NJ Arts Commission which was cliquish and elitist, and tended to exclude SOuth Jersey Artists altogether. SO UNLIKE GOVT EMPLOYEES!

The energies whirling around us now are testy, at best. It could very well be a part of what has happened on this and other sites.

It seems that the disagreements became entrenched, and i apologize to anyone who i offended or upset with my statements, while thinking i was offering clarification.

qop, had a similar experience with art communities in different states -- one supportive, the other smug and clique-ish. The difference is that you've been persistent, and as a result succesful. I'm hoping you see wider recognition. SOON!

Grizzly [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Hi Marta

I don't know if you remember me, but we had a nice chat about two years ago on this site prior to the last election. You mentioned that you liked my suggestions for the Dems running for Congress; particularly that they be more assertive and stand up for themselves in the face of the Rovian steamroller, in order to be respected and therefore supported by the undecided/indy voters.

I too miss the intenseengagement here and on Starlight News, and I can only give you my take on this in the form of two main reasons;

1/ How totally unfathomable and simply incomprehensible it has been that the Dem majority in both houses is still seemingly cowering in fear of Pres. 25%, and how they won't even consider impeaching his lying lawless ass and rather just simply whine and stomp their feet like small helpless schoolgirls over things like Rove laughing in their faces re not answering their subpoenas, rather than showing some backbone (and respect for those 'quaint' things like the Rule of Law, the U.S. Constitution, and Separation of Powers) by simply arresting him under the inherent comtempt of Congrss provision available to them.

It is becoming has become)painfully obvious IMO that 90% of both parties only care about their own power/positions/personal priveledges.I think this has made many people just about give up on the system, perceiving it as hopelessly 'gamed'.

2/ Though having only the most embarrassingly rudimentary understanding of astro principles, I do feel intuitively that almost everyone right now is in kind of an antsy cosmic lull, before the inevitable upcoming financial/economic/currency storm/meltdown probably starting for real in mid August and culminating in late November.

Also, will there even BE elections in 2008?? I surely (warning, tinfoil ahead!!) do have my doubts and suspicions as to whether or not the eminently indictable Bush, Cheney, etc. team from Elm Street will simply declare martial law due to (another?) false flag terrorist attack, rather than simply handing over the keys to it all while just saying "Sayonara" (or whatever the Paraguayan equivalent is). Any thoughts from anybody?

Grizzly [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Apologies for the typos in the last post. I blame it on lack of sleep and general anxiety due to the uncertainty related to the subject matter.

Morgana [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Sally's unable to get on AW at the moment but she wanted you to know she saw your messages and questions and will be happy to answer them.

Marta [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Hi qop, karen, Grizzly, Clymela, Morgana and all ... Grizzly, I totally agree with your comments and qop, karen and clymela, here's to hoping that whatever has transpired to create this impasse and stagnation can hopefully be overcome. I think I can speak for many in expressing that the posters here on AW both active and/or lurker or a combination of the two have become a community. We've been through alot together over the past several years, and while there have been disagreements, most particularly about the current elections, I think we can agree that everybody is entitled to express and post their own opinions and articles, as long as it's respectfully done. It's up to the viewer to either read them, comment on them (also in a respectful manner), or just pass on through and ignore those posts(ers) which we may habitually disagree with (which sometimes happens). There ought to be room for everyone. I think most of the long time posters here on AW have been pretty vetted. Why don't we just agree to disagree and continue on. We're all adults. Either we have a dialogue or we don't. Not having a dialogue creates stagnation. Anyway, my 2 cents worth. It's hard enough to find like minded people outside this board.

The other a friend told me I was too negative. That she was doing fine and was sick of hearing about negative stuff. I promptly crowned her "Miss Air Head". Plop! I told her that unfortunately, it wasn't "all about her". That we were a collective. That what hurt others eventually will come to hurt us too. It was like talking to a wall. Mind you she works in Dade County Public Schools. They've had massive teacher layoffs. But since it wasn't "Miss Air Head", I guess that's ok. As long as she's ok the world can burn I guess. Anyway, I'm rambling. Ya'll have a nice day.

Marta [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Oops. Second paragraph should read, "The other DAY a friend ...". thanks.

qop [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Grizzly,
I didn't want to whine & complain too much, the repigs are doing enough of that for everyone.......but personally in my own life I am experiencing a daunting series of rolling speedbumps that are draining off too much of my time! Saturn 3rd, & 4th house.
Contaminated well, samples need to be sent within 30 hours to the state for testing..........postmaster shuts down 2 min., before closing.............can't retrieve a stamp from the mechanized system to send the water samples ( or he would have nice guy!)
I have to throw out the bottles wait for them to send me new ones..........meanwhile boiling all water before using and buying spring water to drink. I never realized that brushing your teeth was such a luxury!
After fixing 2 different lines, spewing diesel fuel, instead of properly injecting it into the injectors....( my stimulus check) the fuel tank is now leaking.............. At 1/2 full it stopped, but I DREAMED last night it was still leaking and sure enough this morning with only 1/3 full tank there was a big spot under the car.......
Am I getting much painting done??????? not really!
Then I spend a LOT OF TIME deleting requests for money from the Dems. I'll vote for Obama there is NO OTHER CHOICE, but I am NOT active on the campaign.
People really do seem to be emotional over the election process.......
But boy am I p____d that the Dems. considered that Kucinich was unelectable because he's too short 5'7" but the repigs think McCaine is a hero 5' 6".! Dumb!

Crystal [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Just read the posts prior to mine. I feel like it's the calm before the storm.

Crystal [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Morgana, interesting read on what she says about Obama. I think she likes him for President but can't come out and say so for obvious reasons.

The picture of her was on Yahoo's front page, but you know how it changes every hour or so, so it's gone. She was wearing a nice white tunic style top, and had a big smile on her face - a genuine one this time. Who knows, she may have been speaking about Obama at the time, which resulted in the smile. Heheheh.

Morgana [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Qop, wow 5'6" ... I got this image in my head of McCain and Obama during the Presidential Debates falling off his box. Can't possibly have a picture of a a wee lil' ole man and big tall young buck.

Crystal, yuppers, the coming lunar eclipse is a dandy. Gaia is active and hurricane season is reaching it's peak with little or no impediments to storm formation, not good news. We have the Olympic drama with George embarrassing our country yet again, Democratic Convention, Veep picks, Repug's might find their world in chaos since Ron Paul's delegates aren't settling for McCain.

During the 2000 campaign a friend of mine said, "Gore will win, because he's taller than Bush. The tallest guy always wins." (Well, of course, Gore did win--but that is another story.)

Anyhow, I replied, "Yes, Gore is taller--but Bush is standing on a hill of money."

Sally McDonald [TypeKey Profile Page]:

WOW, I have had nothing but headaches with my computer today. I should have looked at Kathleen Mulligan's site earlier. Thanks for the link.

Someone asked about how quiet the site was partly do to summer vacations and partly due to some posters dropping off and deciding not to come back. Some people like discussions, some arguments and some just like to post information that is already around the net. I like discussion, not arguments. Most astrologers are in agreement with the aspects surrounding mundane astrology however are unable to incorporate all they see in one article, there are literally thousands of pieces to synthesize and it's always fun to see different pieces of another's interpretation.

Someone mentioned "lurkers" and there are lurkers and I hear from them through email, the last two years I've heard from several feeling like the posts had gotten away from astrology and metaphysics and moved more toward attacking others and trying to force people to see things their way. I've been letting that ride and defended all those who posted here. In the past couple of months the people who were being complained about also got angry and said they wouldn't be back and I felt that was the best thing. There is a difference between debate and discussion, we started out as a discussion site and that was my intent, I never intended this to be a debate site, there are tons of those on the internet. I'm not asking anyone to understand what I am saying because there is a lot I cannot and will not say. There isn't any doubt the tone of the site has changed and I don't regret that, a lot of astrologers have just abandoned sites because of this kind of vitrolic anger directed toward them, I don't want to abandon Astroworld, and I do recognize that we cannot make everyone happy. I've learned much from all of you and have great appreciation for your participation in an ever changing and historical climate.

Crystal [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Just heard on the NBC Nightly News, that there are rumblings in the Hillary camp, that her supporters want to mominate her at the Democratic Convention, and they also want Obama to pay off her debt. Also Bill is not being too accommodating. Sounds ominous. Anyone heard anything similar?

Sally McDonald [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I heard the same thing Crystal, this campaign season is going to be one of the most contentious in recent history. So many antagonistic aspects around all of us. Hillary wants a parade in downtown Denver of her supporters and have her name on the nominating ballot and it sounds like Bill is still angry. I am having a hard time getting it, the Clinton's made peace with Newt Gringrich and the Bush's and those were the people who hurt them the most and were so vicious. I did hear where Bill is going to speak on Wednesday night at the convention and Hillary on Monday night. I'm not sure they want a floor fight over the nomination but maybe. I heard Chuck Todd on MSNBC say the problems were the fault of the media who made the primary sound as if it were close between Obama and Hillary when it never was and it made here supporters believe they had a chance. They are doing the same thing between Obama and McCain, helps their ratings if people believe it's a dog fight. We will have to see what the conventions and fall will bring but I am watching it less and less, I think most people just want this adminstration out and a new day for this country. I enjoyed the site you posted above, he has an especially interesting prediction for China. The Olympics are going to have a tough time this year, not China's fault, it's just tough aspects for the Olympics, we will have to look at the opening night aspects.

Mind you the Olympic Committee distributed the masks for them to protect their lungs, just not in front of cameras...geeze there is a camera every ten feet!
