Super Tuesday, February 5, 2008

Sally and I will be adding charts throughout the day and evening as Super Tuesday progresses from Coast to Coast.

Meanwhile let's chat!

Here's my first hand voters experience that I blogged earlier. Share your stories, your impressions and astrological tidbits.

Ok Mercury is rx. no kidding. I get into the voting booth, my halfass glasses slip and I mark my ballot for Biden, oops. Felt like such an idiot, walk back to the desk and tell them I oops'd, got another ballot, marked it. And WOW that felt good.

I loved Crystal's comment from the last thread!

Here's a little quote from Cosmic Path website which I think may apply today:

In case it got lost in the last thread, here is why I'm passing up today's entertainment, calling it taking up the first torch & pitchfork and personal protest:
~Has anyone else noticed the strange resurgence of McCain, like, in a few weeks time from No Man's Land to 48%?
~Has anyone else noticed the consistent dead heat numbers between Obama and Clinton (just a few points like in the fake exit poles which matched the outcome which only happens when it's in the repug interests?).

Maybe, just maybe the answer lies with Zogby:
McCain beats Clinton in every pole 8-9%.
Obama beats McCain in every pole 8-9%.

Somebody tell me I'm delusional here about the 1-20-09 chart, which set me off with the genuine concern of who this brittle little McCain man might pick as VP...and who this VP could be the mask behind the mask of the next "president".

color me paranoid.

Karen, I'm with you on writing in Kucinich. Since the '08 election has that familiar (but not 'because') square of mars/neptune the same old strangeness we've seen since the Aug '99 eclipse appear to be lining up to fool us Thrice.
VP choices are crucial all around. Because this election looks like a 'bait 'n' switch'.
Can't help it: Obama has a wind blowing right through him (but I could be wrong). Clinton is more substantial, yet has no intention of prosecuting war crimes and not a word on either side about the corpse of our constitution and bill of rights lying there rotting in the middle of the cocktail party.

Heads or tails?

Karen, like you I plan to vote Reality and what I know is true. Kucinich, Edwards...
not what has been pre-packaged in cellophane and hammered into our consciousness for the last 24 months.
I'm writing in this time for the first time in 40 years because we're not going to let them dictate the darkside into our minds.
giving it away to the wrong party? Don't think so...this time the point is much deeper than those artificial numbers and outcomes.

I don't know about you, but I'll be up late, watching the returns. It is unlikely that Hillary or Obama will clearly win. That's because they are splitting the delegates in all the most important states.

One thing that really bothers me is how the superdelegates have such a huge influence on the final outcome. Even if, let's say, Obama was up by 200 or even 300 delegates, the superdelegates could swing the election so Hillary won. The party insiders have WAY too much influence on the primary.

Jeb Bush!

Morgana [TypeKey Profile Page]:

WV, no kidding, I heard they added Super Delegates so we the people couldn't nominate a loser for president. I think it goes back to McGovern, but I'd have to look it up again.

Well I have heard that California like elsewhere the turnout is very high. Always interesting to see if we the People can throw a monkey wrench in the machinations of the elites.

patb [TypeKey Profile Page]:

wv, seems like it's all figured out for us ahead of time doesn't it (no question mark implied). One way or another, to quote bush in the '03 debate with Kerry on how the dems think they're going to win, but "We're not going to let 'em".
The power brokers have taken propriety over the 'game' which are our voting powers.

here are two of Goldsmith's sabians (which I hope are not misconstrued as some competition with Lynda's):
(apologize for length, but think these are telling, in fact I left one out).

0 or l Aq:
A traveler comes upon ancient temple in the desert, part of it fallen into ruin and part of it adapted for modern use.
"Recognizing that worldly institutions decay to the degree that they lose their indwelling soul or spiritual raison d' etre: strengthening one's country's shared ideals by putting them into serviceable (if unrecognizable) modern forms; adopting a life-mission that fits one's inner nature vs. ending up in situations that seem artibitrary or absurd....."

...and ironically with previous posts today~
Tomorrow's eclipse 18 Aq:
An ominoous silence falls as the last man at a masquerade party prepares to unmask. Outside, a thunderstorm is brewing.
"Exposing uncomfortable truths; unwillingness to relate on a phony, masky level (troublemakers, enjoy tattling people); bringing negative undertones to the surface and clearing the air like a thunderstorm; breaking through fears and doubts that isolate people from each other; sweet and vulnerable self-revelation vs. fearful choking of secrets; keeping one's own counself vs. accepting one's duty to illumiate the group mind (strike powerful chord with the public);
introducing neglected but relevant spiritual truths; critically analyzing phony social scenes vs. making them real enough to participate in; serving as unconscious agents of some larger revelation, however unpleasant (making an unpleasant discovery when it's already too late); penetrating revelations vs. the irresponsible use of shock tactics.

qop [TypeKey Profile Page]:

WHat does hooferkinwee mean?
I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to stay awake to see of they report on the cables on Mosaic World News. The aggression from the Isrealis, the conflict over the broken border to Egypt, the subsequent suicide bombing in Isreal by Palestinians coming in from Egypt; ( following Condis call to Mubarek to chastise him for allowing the Palestinians to buy desperately needed food & fuel.......) after which the Egyptians clamped down....... have superceded it.
Then there was the suicide bombing in Baghdad by two alleged mentally challenged women ( detonated by remote)
They have mentioned it on the German News but nothing startling.......

karen [TypeKey Profile Page]:

patqop -- hoo ferkin' wee, just an expression of mine meaning WOW!

Here's story 3rd cable cut (before the 4th) Feb 1, 6am off Dubai:

This chart has ven/jup/pluto in the 12th hidden power, money interests (what else is there I ask you) no surprises there.

Mercury is retro at 22aq delivering the goods to neptune's 21-degree aq in the second house of (no surprises)watery lying hands (mercury).

Lastly of much else obviousness, Saturn is retrograde in virgo (mercury as we're well aware)in the 8th house of other people's resources.

I'm counting on the horse's head in gwpinhead's bed..engulfed by his own intentions.

The West Virginia caucuses gave it to Huckabee, or as some suggest, McCain orchestrated the win. Here is a look at West Virginia with Huckabee and Romney.

http://morganaseawalker.com/WVRepugs.jpg

I think the Republicans are going to get really dirty. Lou Dobbs doesn't like McCain or any of the other candidates. It's been floated about that some of the more disgruntled conservatives will put up their own candidate.

Speaking of, I heard Susan Eisenhower on why she was supporting Obama on MSNBC earlier, the Republican Party of today is not the one of her grandfathers.

McCain Tops the Democrats in Media Coverage

By Katharine Q. Seelye

If you’re anxiously awaiting tonight’s results, you can stop pacing and consider this:
In the last week, Senator John McCain has surpassed even Senator Barack Obama and Senator Hillary Clinton in the amount of news coverage he has received.
The media effectively anointed Mr. McCain as the Republican front-runner after he won Florida. At the same time, reporters were writing up a storm about how conservatives were trying to deny Mr. McCain the crown. All of this made for a frothy brew of coverage for the week of Jan. 28 to Feb. 3.

I am predicting for the GOP here a big Romney win. (Unless I am mistaken and the GOP fatcats really do want McCain--but I don't think so. ) Sooo, Romney for the GOP in Georgia.

Earlier today I intended to vote for Edwards since he is still on the ballot. But, the Democratic party in GA seems to be backing Clinton. At the last minute I voted for Obama. But who knows how that Diebold machine recorded my vote? (The Bush Ranger who owns the company knows.)

Polls here close in ten minutes.

MSNBC says GA going to Obama

Old Mayfly [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Wow! A lot to look at in that chart, Morgana. Interesting that the 10th House is Aquarius occupied by Saturn, the old ruler of Aquarius. Oglethorpe founded the colony pretty much on Aquarian principals (for his time, at least). I read once that Oglethorpe laid down three laws for the Colony of Georgia: No slavery, No selling whiskey or firearms to the Native Americans, No lawyers.

But I notice the Sun is in the 8th House of other people's wealth (in some cases, I suspect, stolen from other people's wealth.) Anyhow, there has been a lot of downhill since Oglethorpe.

PS, Georgia was a Crown Colony, and was the last colony to agree to separate from Great Britain.

Old Mayfly [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Well, I notice Romney's North Node is pretty close to the Georgia ASC and his Pluto pretty much conjunct to the IC. Don't know if that denotes destiny.

I was trying to see how the candidates' planets connected with the Georgia Moon. But the only thing I spotted was McCan's 9 degree Taurus Uranus square GA moon.

The more I try to get some insight into a tri-wheel, the more I respect you really great astrologers.

Ok it's freezing cold here and my furnace went out and I am waiting for a repair man. I have gloves on typing this as my hands are getting colder and colder along with my nose.

A few days ago I had a dream that Obama won all 22 states, however in looking at a composite chart between Hillary and Obama and the day today, it looks as if Hillary will have a better day than Obama but not a perfect day. At the end of the day the Obama camp will suspect foul play. Combining an individual chart with the chart of a day, a state, an event etc. can give one a good idea how their day will turn out. Sadly I am not absolutely sure about either birthtime but even without it, Hillary will have a better day.

Morgana [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I think I like your dream Sally.

No space heater ? Stay warm! I had frozen fingers myself when I couldn't get the wood stove to stay lit. My husband had to climb up on the roof in the pouring rain and clear the chimney. But I had fire. I couldn't type my fingers were so stiff with cold (I am such a weenie, southwestern blood, 80 degrees is just about right, 20 degree anything and I am a popsickle).

Old Mayfly [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Hey, Sally--

Is your kitchen stove working? Turn on oven, and open oven door.

Depending on how your house is configured, it will help some.

Dihlon Rants [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Portland,

Sun, Jupiter Neptune, Saturn all in Pisces (as is Clinton's Moon) NN, Mercury, Moon in Aries and Venus in Taurus.

I think Maine will pull for Clinton although their Aries will resonate with his Leo, but emotionally they are seemingly more connected to Clinton. There is a wild card and thatis their Pisces Jupiter conjuncts Obama's Chiron, they could perceive him as having the ability to heal some of the serious problems in their state. He needs to pick up his education piece.

Teresa [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I just skimmed the comments quickly so forgive me if this has already been mentioned. Missouri for Clinton; Kansas for Obama. (I really wanted John Edwards).

Teresa [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Sorry, my bad. I spoke too soon. Missouri and Kansas haven't officially called it yet. These are just the leads.

qop [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Well I don't know about CLinton but I think I am in the right place! All that Pisces in my 10th with my Jupiter.
I have been looking at the Fundrace on Huffpost to see what contributions have been made to campaigns. ( It's down at least 75% from the last election ) but the $ support is Edwards, Obama, Clinton.in that order. It doesn't mean much as people who can't afford to contribute will go out & vote.

Sally [TypeKey Profile Page]:

It's hard to imagine how MSNBC could call California for Hillary when only 15 percent of the vote is in. California has 36 and a half million people in it, 15 percent is nothing. They are going by their exit polls. Hope I get up in the morning to an Obama victory. This is ridiculous to call it for Hillary and McCain absolutely ridiculous. It makes me think that the powers that be have already decided who the two candidates will be and it will be McCain and Hillary, that will be the choices we are forced to live with and vote for.

JudiGem [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Sally, 4 million people were able to vote early in CA, me included. I voted for Hillary....most of us did. CA is NOT CO. We are far more liberal here. I still think for some reason that Obama is appealing to more conservative voters, the independents, etc.

There are voting problems here, sure, as the turn out has been mind boggling.... they RAN OUT OF PAPER BALLOTS in Santa Clara co. and Alameda co. I know LA had some problems like that also. In Berkeley, at the University, so many students showed up to vote, they were inline when the polls closed. So they were allowed to vote...until 10 pm. Those votes will not get counted until tomorrow. Obama may pull up closer by tomorrow, but since this is a proportional elective process, they will split the delegates anyway. I do NOT want to see Obama get the nod, because I am pretty damned tired of the boys club. Hillary would be a very good president, and I'm sticking with the women....Obama is a very good social worker who knows how to bring people together, but he is one more man in the game.

He's already given in to AIPAC .... does anyone REALLY think he is going to change the political system? Bill Clinton was right...it is a big fairy tale.
http://www.motherjones.com/commentary/columns/2008/01/obamas-israel-shuffle.html

Good morning Sally, I hope you are nice & warm by now and the heater repairs, didn't cost too much.
I caved just as Ca. polls were closing.

Iran Launches Rocket, Claims Seat In Spacefaring-Nations Club

By John Borland February 04, 2008 | 12:40:41 PMCategories: Space

The Associated Press reports that Iran has opened a new space center, and launched a rocket that – at least according to the country's state TV – has reached space.

What that means remains a matter for some debate. A similar rocket launched by Iran last April didn't make orbital height. Iranian State TV reported today that the Explorer-1 rocket was "launched into space," and that the country has thus "joined the world's top 11 countries possessing space technology to build satellites, and launch rockets into space."

The AP cites suspicions by unnamed experts that the rocket launches are a cover for developing military ballistic missiles. I'm going to hazard a guess that this isn't going to calm anybody's concerns about Iran's nuclear ambitions.

http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/20080205_the_legacy_of_bush_ii/

The Legacy of Bush II

Curb your enthusiasm. Even if your favored candidate did well on Super Tuesday, ask yourself if he or she will seriously challenge the bloated military budget that President Bush has proposed for 2009. If not, military spending will rise to a level exceeding any other year since the end of World War II, and there will be precious little left over to improve education and medical research, fight poverty, protect the environment or do anything else a decent person might care about. You cannot spend well over $700 billion on “national security,” running what the White House predicts will be more than $400 billion in annual deficits for the next two years, and yet find the money to improve the quality of life on the home front.

The conventional wisdom espoused by the mass media is that Bush’s budget is a lame-duck DOA contrivance, but that assumption is wrong. The 9/11 attacks have been shamefully exploited by the military-industrial complex with bipartisan support to ramp up military expenditures beyond Cold War levels. This irrational spending spree, which accounts for more than half of all federal discretionary spending, is not likely to end with Bush’s departure. Which one of the likely winners from either party would lead the battle to cut the military budget, and where would the winner find support in Congress? Both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have treated the military budget as sacrosanct with their Senate votes and their campaign rhetoric. Clinton is particularly clear on the record as favoring spending more, not less, on the military.

Good morning, AWers! Not only was a storm brewing, it hit. It's an apt physical metaphor for what has been created to slap the American people around. Will we fight back?

Sally, hope your heating challenge is resolved! Used to live in an uninsulated house in Michigan's UP. We wore hats and mittens and long underwear all day including to bed.

McCain, as promised, will be the Republican nominee. It looks all but sewn up. But we knew that, didn't we. Ghouliani's request of several states manifested -- winner of the popular vote take all. Another scenario entirely with the Dems. Will the delegates side with Clinton? Taking in to account all that Sally and Morgana and Nancy have written, i'll bet it will be a dog dirty fight with Clinton proving she's the dirtier dog. (Sorry Judi, i couldn't resist).

I'm attempting some calculations and would appreciate y'all letting me know where you might see other numbers. Right now, I have the numbers (they will change somewhat, of course, but they should be pretty solid at this point) for only these states: AZ, IL, MA, MO, NY, NJ. Although I need lots more data, the percent of total by party is as follows: 66.9% Dems (6,919,000 votes), 33.1% Repukes (3,416,000 Votes).

Pls let me know if you find other numbers. Very interesting.

PatC [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Shy, let us know what you're up to. Interesting only 1/2 repulsives vote numbers.

qop, although the 'shallow throat' barely acknowledges the total truth displasia (flip the list of our so-called front runners, make it impossible for the best candidates to breathe air, etc.). This morning we're hearing little about popular votes, with Delegate, Delegate, Delegate percentage runners under the bobbleheads.
He is right about Infiltrating the democratic party with progressives (well underway, no mystery there) and the necessity of revolution.

Through hooded eyes it's easy to see the cards will fall exactly as planned 2 years ago.
Don't bother getting up. They're not gonna let us.

Sally [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I love your "shallow throat" QOP. After yesterday's "delegate" marathon I am with "shallow throat" and certainly not up for November. What a sick mess that will be and unless he drops off the face of the earth or gets sick we will be stuck with McCain. I simply don't think I can watch that.

There is an Eclipse out there at 17 Aquarius exact at 10:44pm Washington, DC. The bad weather yesterday across the south was a good indication of the damage an Eclipse can do and so far the US got off easily. This Eclipse falls into the US 3/9 Houses, communication of all types including pundits filling the airwaves with nonsense (that's the most politically correct word I can think of right now. I do have others but they border on obscene.) This eclipse is from Saros Series 10 North (Bernadette Brady's Book The Eagle and the Lark) "A strong emphasis on communication and at the same time, frustrating or inhibiting events may come into the person's life via news, paperwork or a young person. The person may feel tired and drained and this is therefore a good time to take things quietly and work through the difficulties one at a time." That would certainly be accurate for the personal planets that aspect this eclipse, the outer planets have more to do with the collective or a whole group of people. For instance, I have a client whose NN is at 17 Aquarius and she received an offer of a "new" job yesterday, but it squared the NN of Arkansas (where the storms hit)

The US will only receive impulses as the Eclipse does not go over this country or hit any hot spots, so it will be an impact just like any aspect for people living in this country. I don't see any major earthquakes or fires for the US, however tornado's ripping through the South was pretty bad last night.

It went across my 5/11 house cusp and there has been a flurry of kids issues and needs as well as connections with a lot of old friends. Look in your charts and see if the eclipse is hitting a planet or house cusps.

shylurker [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Just had a gruelling hour or whatever of entering a million numbers, since the totals were not calculated. I now have totals entered for AK, AL, AZ, AR, CA, CO, CN, DE, GA, IL, IA, MS (Mass--not Miss), Michigan, Minnesota, MO, NH, NJ, NY, ND, OK, TN, Utah. Totals are: Dems 16,018,616 and Pukes 10,171,133. Percentages: 61.2% Dem and 38.8% Repuke. We can whup McCain (R-Insane) if we stick together.

shylurker [TypeKey Profile Page]:

BushCo is now telling us they tortured and it's ok and they may/may not do it again. Are we in the U.S. in 2008 or have we gone through some time machine back to, oh, Germany in the '30s and '40s?

patb [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Good going Shy! Might we also ask ourselves where Edwards and Kucinich supporters went?
To HC? Highly doubtful.
HC gave Edwards a 'promise' to improve the lot of the poor and he stated HC convinced him more than Obama. Wonder if he'll actually endorse either of them (hope his amoeba doesn't get swallowed into those amoebas), if he really has integrity and a message he'll know the difference between being the traditional gentleman and distancing his message from theirs as he rightly SHOULD preserving his integrity and break through to the land of the True Progressives.

A year ago we were getting the clear message that our newly elected congress would fight for us (recall Pelosi) and we said "get a spine" until we realized they were simply corrupt and let the completion of the shredding of our founding principles and the death economy continue unhindered.

Well, it is our country and have to wrest it back from them and find our own spines and do the job ourselves from the ground up. It will take years but it's worth it. It's ok to give up on this charade seeing it for what is really is and just get busy shifting our focus elsewhere, back to the fulfillment of our original vision and power.

I hope Edwards especially and Kucinich STAY ANGRY. As should we.

qop [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Thanks for the hard work Shy! That's very encouraging, because; the Dems were allowed a finale speech; BUT McInsane is getting all the coverage always with that Liebervulture hovering behind him!

qop [TypeKey Profile Page]:

patb, there are a lot of disgruntled people on Huffpo, Common Dreams,& DU blogs who voted or are still going to for Edwards.

patb [TypeKey Profile Page]:

qop, although this sounds awful, mars & saturn do a jig over McInsane's sun july & august, perhaps informing us a bit more as to the nature of that odd bit on his jaw/cheek.
A year 1/2 ago a cameraman caught McC from his left side (a no-no with McC) talking to another senator, got a clear closeup of what appeared to be a "shunt" tube under the skin of his neck behind the ear. It looked like a big scoop of tissue had been removed in that area behind that lump we see in frontal photos.
McC turned and appeared angry glancing at the cameraman then turning his back.

Who would wish ill on another, of course we are all human (sort of) underneath and not wish him harm, just um, out of the way.

Crystal [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Hello all,

Hope no one here was affected by those nasty tornadoes that blew through the south yesterday, and of all days, for it to be Super Tuesday. I didn't get a time-line on when they occurred, but I hope nobody was out there because they had to vote.

Sorry I couldn't join the Super Tuesday party here, but I was obliged to be at another party.

I am not at all discouraged by the election results, and in fact, I think with this solar eclipse that is occurring at 11 p.m. EST tonight, Obama will catch a second wind going forward, not because the eclipse forms any particular aspect with any of his planets or house cusps (I don't know), but because his campaign, or movement as he now calls it, is described by this solar eclipse in Aquarius - Uranus its ruler, represents the kind of change that Obama is seeking - a radical, from the bottom up revolutionary change, and this type of change is not easily achieved, unlike the superficial type "change" that the other candidates are mouthing. And I believe that he will achieve it. His dreams are not pipedreams, but blueprints of what he can materialize in concrete form. This is borne out by his Mars in Virgo trine Saturn in Capricorn. It's the slow and steady type change that endures. What's more, he has the type of faith that can move mountains - his faith in himself to accomplish what he sets out to do, and this is the type of faith he wants to inspire in each and everyone of us, so all those slogans you hear him use in his campaign are not just empty words. They are designed to inspire us to bring about that change by believing in ourselves (faith), and using that faith to remove obstacles, and he has experienced this firsthand, because this is what has brought him thus far, but not without a struggle.

So Sally, I would have to disagree with your premise that the election is already decided, because if I believe that, then I have resigned myself to failure, but I haven't, and I won't. I will fight for what I believe in, and when you have hundreds of thousands believing like that, then you have a positive force for change.
Obama has Jupiter in Aquarius, the humanitarian sign, and I interpret this to mean that he plays on a world stage, not just an American stage, and I believe that he can change the way other countries view us - in a more positive and humane light, unlike the one in which we are presently seen.

patb [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Change. The word has no content. Just when we think we'll hear something with gravity and content it sort of evaporates and I experience a petit morte.

patb [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Is there promise in pergatory?

Crystal [TypeKey Profile Page]:

QOP - hahaha "Liebervulture" indeed! Looks more like a pasty-faced Harlequin, or the kiss of death - literally what he was to Al Gore.

Crystal [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Well PatB, it depends on what you believe. I don't believe in purgatory.

patb [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Liebervulture liarman, the sharpei..also has saturn/mars opposite his sun giving him feedback this summer. Pretty exact.
Besides, election day's saturn/uranus oppo square his moon and transiting venus/sag. Saturn floats in his 7th this year & next making him feel a bit like an aging hooker.

patb [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Crystal, maybe Blake's view of purgatory, more at just a state of mind.

Still, it's alright to respect one another's differing views on what's happening and try not to take it personally. The repugs are doing a good job of that amongst themselves.

I think we all want a good, just and simple outcome as it was in the old days. Some of us have doubts that run more cynical as to how deep the donkey dung.

Gina [TypeKey Profile Page]:

I agree with Crystal that we have to believe that change is possible and keep fighting for it.

My question--and what it boils down to for me--is are we ready for change THIS YEAR, or are we still more afraid than we are ready.

My fear is that if we are not ready for change this year, that the young people clamoring for it will be discouraged, and will not be able to lay the groundwork for it in 2012.

I don't want to wait for 2012. Or even 2010. But I will if I have to.

So should we be thinking now, or long term?

qop [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Oh my God! The teacher who wrote the historical story I am going to illustrate, has died! He just finished the manuscript 2 or 3 weeks ago!
He was 80, I wonder what his chart looks like.......died on the eclipse!

Gina [TypeKey Profile Page]:

On lighter matters, is anyone on this blog at all interested in sports? The reason I ask this is because I find it interesting all the trade activity happening today, on the day of a solar eclipse--the possible trade of Shaquille O'Neal to the Phoenix Suns, in particular.

Also, one of the star players on the Suns, Steve Nash (2/7/74), has his solar return directly on this eclipse. Any takers?

patb [TypeKey Profile Page]:

qop, how shocking for you this must be! So often we hear about someone flying off just after fulfilling a work. Bet he'll be looking over your shoulder guiding those illustrations.

Gina, you raise an important point about all this that I tend to forget (thinking we're too far gone) about needing to stand upon at least some democratic guiding principles even if they're perhaps not exactly perfect. That is a very good point.
What I have wondered though, truly and with an unsatisfied curiosity what "change" means. The fruit, the pith, it's legs, the core definition, method and procedure. Who what when where how and why.

All the men are gone who defined the picture with straightforward clarity that we could understand thoroughly. I miss them all.

Psychic Vera’s Diary

January 28

If I like the idea of a black president and I like the idea of a woman president why did I vote for John Edwards in the California primary (absentee ballot)?

1. I think Edwards has more of a chance to beat the Republican (probably John McCain).

2. Obama isn’t specific enough about what he wants to do,instead speaking in generalities about needing change and reconciliation. He doesn’t have much experience. I don’t know specifically what he wants. Why couldn’t he have waited for another 8 years? Can he get through the black prejudice that still controls the South?

Obama's Israel Shuffle

The 'pro-Israel' crowd saw Obama as a potential threat. He's done his best two-step to prove them wrong." />

Justin Elliott" />
February 01" /> , 2008" /> Last week, when Barack Obama became the first major candidate to break the silence on the situation in Gaza, he didn't criticize Israel, whose blockade of a civilian population has been roundly condemned by human rights organizations, nor did he call for restraint from the United States' top ally in the Mideast. Instead, he fired off a letter to U.N. Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad with a resounding message—one that could have been mistaken for words straight from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee's (AIPAC) website. "The Security Council should clearly and unequivocally condemn the rocket attacks against Israel.… If it cannot...I urge you to ensure that it does not speak at all," Obama wrote, adding he understood why Israel was "forced" to shut down Gaza's border crossings.

Check out the "Year of Living Dangerously" ... by Valenzuela.

It's occurred to me that the reason the primaries have been so dragged out (and the election year turned into the election 2 years ...) is that, more than ever, the elections are simply being used as a distration (for us) so that we don't focus on the final preparations for war with Iran (in this instance) and the rest of the gawd awful stuff Bush and minions have up their sleeves.

The election is nothing more than a mirage anyway. Remember? It's who counts the votes that matters.

This election is just another OJ Simpson trial or Britney Spears or whatever is used to distract us from what we really should be doing. And they've done a great job of it ... all over the internet and the news elections, elections, elections. People fighting, fighting, fighting. Funny how none of that fighting is being used against THOSE WHO MOST DESERVE IT.

Just a flash I suddenly got ... And BTW, just look at the candidates left standing ... isn't that a bit coincidental? Divide and conquerish? I mean, everybody KNEW the dems were going to blow a hole in the repubs, right? Then how did we end up with these two as THE CANDIDATES? And a potential loss to the repubs thrown in for good measure? The new gay marriage paradigm designed to get the masses fighting with each other, only now it's ... with bated breath ... IS AMERICA READY FOR A WOMAN PRESIDENT OR IT'S FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT? That's just on the Dem side ... who cares what the repub sides doing (well, not who cares, but it looks like they're following the same game plan ... WHO MAKES THESE CANDIDATES UP? Congress Moves To Seize Control Of All US Water

Marta [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Patb, I'm glad you read Valenzuela's article. I thought it was well put. I don't think anything's going to happen in this country until we do away with corporate donations, 527's, and have publicly financed campaigns and airtime for all candidates. Even if you start another party, you still need millions (if not a billion) to "buy" the Presidency of the United States. It's up for the highest bidder and the one who will do the bidding of his/her owner's.

Everybody else gets quickly knocked out. No, change is going to be painful and wrenching and cataclysmic and that's the only way it's going to happen. We're all "armchair warriors" as is most of the country. Sending a $10 or $20 donation to a cause is a drop in the bucket, Stan (although a worthy drop in the bucket). However in order to achieve a mass change in this country people are going to have to take to the streets. Has anybody noticed that because of the way our cities are structured (cars, cars, cars and spread out, spread away, as in diffused) it's hard to organize a mass of people to congregate and march (that's impressive in a little town with a main street or in NYC). But, in Miami, for instance, we don't have a (as in one) main street and even if we wanted to have a million person march (almost the whole city's population), where would we go? We have Coral Gables, Downtown, Coconut Grove ... there isn't enough parking to accommodate that many people.

Anyway, my point is that as a population, whether by design or by accident, we all live fairly isolated from one another. Look at Europe where everybody is jammed into small housing spaces and alot of people continue to live in the CITY (not in suburbs). When they pile out of their houses they take the metro or walk and one person meets up with another, and another and next thing you know ... A MARCH! And they march the entire length and width of the street. I've never seen anything like it in the US (it probably wouldn't be allowed - the US only allows that sort of thing when it's Gay Pride Week or St. Pattie's Day or Thanksgiving. Entertainment is allowed. Protesting is not. Whadda country!

karen [TypeKey Profile Page]:

It occurred to me this morning that I have been exactly wrong about every political prediction I've made on AW.

If I were a neoCon, based on that record I'd apply for a pundit job with the New York Times. After all, they hired Bill Kristol.

And this:
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c110:H.R.2421:

When I bought my house I was warned by the realtor, that I couldn't build out beyond the back of the house as it was less than 100' from wetlands! I could live with that, if any thing I would go up not out, to increase to a full 2 story house.......................Any turps I have goes into a can, for the trash incinerator.....not down the drain.
On the other hand, at this time of year; with the trees leafless, & snow on the ground; I can look down my neighbor's hill and see the rusted car body lying there! I have hauled ,many items up my own hill, and sent them away with the trash truck! rusted paint cans ( lead based I'm sure) car parts, bed springs, buckets crocks.......
Just the other day I asked the Town Manager about the proper dump location to take some old computer stuff. SOme old timer native wag, quiped that I could take them up to Harrington, and throw them into the sink hole off shore!
The recipient of many a refridgerator, car, ect.!
This is the other side of the coin, many of the locals are just plain stubborn, & ignorant on this subject.
We need laws to protect us from them!
Maybe they vote Repug, so that they won't have to support all those pesky single baby with their taxes.factories, and they can throw their trash in the bay with out impediment!
WHere YOUR lobster is dining!

so that they won't have to support all those pesky single baby factories, with their taxes.
