MOON BEAMS

I consulted the Moon like a crystal ball. (Diane Ackerman, “The Planets” 1976)

I hold back the Full Moon of August as long as I can. Vedic astrologers say the Full Moon is the most auspicious, far more than the New Moon and it does always seem full of promise and bursting at the seams with magic possibilities. Still, the August Full Moon seems to herald a poignant end to summer. The sun cools, the flowers fade, the night comes sooner, and more than any other Full Moon, it’s the August Moon that reminds me of endings.

I’ve been hesitant to write about Cindy Sheehan and Camp Casey because of the human tendency to raise people up to idolize and deify them when they are just ordinary people who have been placed into extraordinary circumstances. Sometimes they are there by design and sometimes by accident. We have all watched stunned as millions of people in this country have deified this administration in spite of their obvious disdain for the people they serve.

Cindy Sheehan is an ordinary person, with ordinary problems whose grief and anger thrust her into extraordinary circumstances. It reminds me of how Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) started and they changed how this country looks at drinking and driving. Cindy is changing how this country looks at war, she is at least making people look at the sickening tragedy of this war. History is peppered with strong women, women of temporary destiny, whose lives and stories changed everything. Cindy isn’t the only woman pushing the reality of this administration to the front page of the news; Valerie Plame, Bunnatine Greenhouse and Sibel Edmonds (the whistleblowers) the 9/11 New Jersey Widows, these are all women becoming a thorn in the side of this administration. One by one their numbers increase.

Someone asked about the Feminine Asteroids regarding recent events. The Moon does represent the feminine in a chart and in the US Chart the Moon is 27 degrees Aquarius, this Full Moon landed right on that 27 degrees, separated by less than a half a degree.

The most well known Asteroids in astrology and the ones most closely related to the feminine being played out today would be – Juno, Ceres, Pallas and Vesta. Asteroids have played but a small part, if any, in chart interpretations but they are especially loved by those who love mythology for all the Asteroids are rich in mythological and esoteric meaning and may point to re-emerging feminine power. It is estimated that by 2010 women will control how two thirds of the world’s wealth will be spent. Women are graduating from collage in greater numbers than men; women make up about 50 percent of corporate mid-level management. Men and women are becoming more feminized throughout the world in the last 30 years due to the iconic images on television and computers, which is rapidly re-opening the right side of the brain, the feminine side. Considering the primitive reaction we are seeing coupled with an almost desperate attempt to hang onto the patriarchal system, I would say the left brain of logic is terrified of the analytical right brain and somewhere inside of all of us we know it is happening anyway. As humans, we always try to hang on to the known before we are forced to give way to the unknown.

Ceres is known as the “great mother” she is known to the Greeks as Demeter. She gracefully rules over the resources of the earth related to food and the care and feeding of the people. As the mother of Persephone her grief at the abduction of her daughter by Pluto to the underground, was without bounds. In her grief she destroyed the grain and turned the earth frigid and hard, without sun (the winter months) until Pluto returned Persephone with the agreement that he would hold her six months out of the year and Ceres six months. Not unlike agreements between divorced parents today. Ceres of course, received Persephone in the spring, letting her go in the fall.

In the US Chart, Ceres is at 8 degrees Pisces squaring the US Uranus (transiting Uranus is conjuncting the US Ceres and squaring its own place.) Ceres in Pisces relates to compassion as nurturing, in a square to Uranus, that compassion becomes erratic and confused. Well that describes America today when we juxtaposition Terry Shivo with Cindy Sheehan and the “pretend compassion” for our troops but a lack of enough for those troops to demand appropriate supplies. Ceres in aspect to Uranus and transited by Uranus is a glimpse into the erratic psyche afflicting the US right now. It also will make us aware, suddenly and unexpectedly that “she” is in charge of the earth and “we” need to take care of her.

Cindy Sheehan’s Saturn also squares the US Ceres, she is as firm in her position, as George Bush is firm in his (his Mars opposes Ceres) Only George Bush is very angry at his space being invaded. Cindy’s Saturn square GWB Mars is frustrated anger at the woman who patiently waits. Her Saturn square the US Ceres gives her the picture of the “long-suffering” grieving mother, and we know we should see her that way but Uranus makes most of the US unsure and her Saturn conjoined with the Fixed Star Antares will make her face the picture of grieving mothers for this war.

Juno, the beautiful, perfect and every so jealous wife, only one of two legally married goddesses in Olympus, the other Venus Aphrodite (the harlot) Venus is unimpressed with marriage vows, while Juno finds her meaning as a woman through marriage.

In the US Chart, Juno is at 20 degrees Libra (the perfect placement for Juno) and it’s very close to the US Progressed Mars, thus the present argument over gay marriages and what constitutes a marriage. In Libra, Juno needs equality and will fight if it’s not given. The SN is presently transiting over Juno and will soon be joined by her consort Jupiter (Roman name for the Greek God Zeus) Juno should be very happy having her constantly unfaithful husband home. I guess that’s why I have been invited to so many weddings this fall. There will also be a call in the US for more balance, more fairness, and a sense of Justice. There could be some fireworks right before Jupiter arrives to meet Juno, because Venus crosses over Jupiter and meets Juno first to let her know she, Venus, has been with Jupiter on the last few days of his 12 year journey. Look for “gay marriages’ to be in the picture for a couple of weeks and some newsworthy event regarding jealousy.

Vesta, the Virgin, the shinning keeper of earth’s sacred flame and is the most difficult of all the goddesses to understand. Vesta in America’s chart makes her residence in Taurus and she does not understand the puritan stance in sexuality in this country. Vesta in Taurus sees sexuality in anything or anyone earthy. That would include all body types, all ages, and all expressions of love from the mother, to the sister, to lover, to wife, to crone. Cindy Sheehan’s SN conjuncts Vesta in the US chart as she brings forth both mother and crone for us to embrace and love and sublimating her sexuality into fighting for a cause. Transiting Mars will soon join Vesta and will either give more power to that cause, or violence will come out of her past to hurt her.

I’ve saved my favorite, of this series to the end; Pallas Athena, the warrior goddess, the only daughter wholly Jupiter’s, as she sprung from his head. Pallas symbolizes the process of creative visualization and the knowledge of the laws of manifestation, creative intelligence, and flashes of brilliance. Whenever Pallas lands in your Sun sign, your ability to create and manifest your desires (positive or negative) is enormous. Right now she is transiting Libra and will be there until about Sept. 20th, then she marches into Scorpio. Pallas sometimes stays a few weeks and sometimes a few months, she pretty much does as she pleases, when she pleases. What I love about Pallas and the very crux of this article with this August Full Moon is Pallas conjuncts the US Moon and this Full Moon fell directly across the US Moon and Pallas, but most importantly is the focal point of a transiting yod for Cindy Sheehan, a point of destiny for Cindy and for the women in the United States, if we take that power.

Pallas stands as the sentry to our collective emotions as women, to our emotional power ready to spring into action for us at those times in history we are willing to take up our power and use it. Most of the time we give that power away to the “authority” to our fathers, brothers, sons, and husbands, letting them carry our loads. However for the majority of women they end up carrying their load and the load of the masculine or “left” brain. With Pallas protecting the “soul” of the US, we can have what ever we visualize; all we need to do is turn and say “I will have it.”

Pallas has been traveling with her Father for the last several weeks providing the opportunity for a sudden expansion of intelligence within the collective family of the United States. The light will dawn for several more thousands maybe a couple of million in this country. She moves into Scorpio mid September and will dig out what is hidden, help others understand with scorpion like incision. Scorpio sees under every rock and into every nook and cranny. Politically, Pallas in Scorpio controls the masses and is a fearless and ruthless warrior. When you think of that, remember in the United States Pallas belongs to the feminine, and is a signal that it’s time for us to firmly “sit down.” The wisdom of Pallas in Scorpio is insight – penetrating to the core of a situation. Pallas has also progressed to the natal position of the US Ceres, ready to protect the earth and with Uranus there, both natal and transiting, Pallas and Ceres could be dealing with one of earth’s surprises. We must awaken to the danger of global warming and the loss of unlimited energy, T-Pallas, N-Ceres and T-Uranus all in Pisces, the sudden rise in oil or sudden de-stabilization of oil can be expected, as the complete understanding and revelation of our “wars for oil.”

The entire Pallas, Ceres, Uranus, Uranus configuration opposes or squares GWB’s Mars, and he is up to his hips in oil and drowning fast and just doesn’t know it yet. I think Eleanor Clift said it best.

“Before Sheehan left Crawford, Texas, on Thursday, Bush explained to reporters that he needs to get on with his life, a remark stunningly insensitive to the thousands of maimed soldiers returning from Iraq, and the families of the more than 1,800 dead. Cycling, his new exercise narcotic is important; he went on, because Americans want to know that their president leads a balanced life. No, Mr. President, we just want to know that you’re balanced, period.”

Several days ago as I watched the waxing Moon make her way to Full, I thought “this is an ending of some type for Cindy Sheehan and this particularly form of her movement. Cindy has Jupiter and Mercury in a sextile from Virgo to Cancer, the US Moon in Aquarius completes the yod, and points to her destiny as being part of the feminine power movement. The Full Moon signaled an end to this leg of her journey. Just as I said in one of my posts that knocking down those crosses on stationary direct Mercury ensured this movement morphing into something bigger, so the Full Moon will be transferring Cindy’s destiny to the destiny of the women in the United States.

The Sabian symbol for this Full Moon is… an ancient pottery bowl filled with fresh violets. In this symbol we see pictured the dependence of the purest feelings of natural living upon the traditions within which they find their most adequate and effective setting. It is a symbol of delicacy of feeling.
