What country am I living in? What year is this? I forget sometimes. Could it be Berlin 1932 or maybe its Rome 1932? Is the Statue of Liberty still on our shores? Please tell me because I forget. Is that George Orwell I see? Look at him hiding under the big cherry bush in the corner of the room. He’s gagging. I see him. I know him. I believe him. He exists. 1984. Why? I don’t know. But I know it is not the America I grew up in in the East Coast in the 1960’s.
Pluto is now on our ascendant and has been for awhile. Pluto is an interesting character in the zodiac. He is the dark lord, the power monger, the keeper of murky secrets. He is the phoenix bird rising from the ashes. When Pluto was first discovered in the early part of the twentieth century it was the era of the dictators. Franco Hitler Stalin Mussolini. They all came forward full blast.
And now its us. Us as in the U.S. With Pluto on our ascendant and opposite Saturn the stern karma giver, we underwent a horrendous bloodletting at the World Trade Center. And that is Pluto, the tower card in the tarot, the destruction and collapse of all we hold dear and have known until then.
But Pluto can also be the leader and forger of darkness and of sinister secrets and it is the sign of the totalitarian country and regime. And now with Pluto on our ascendant we are experiencing just that. From deep within ourselves we are seeing just that.
We have no validity of assurance that our voting procedures will work, or be legitimate. How Castro is that? In Guantanomo Bay we keep people behind bars and do not tell them how long they will be held and deny them legal advice. Is Kafka here today listening to this? How The Trial is that? Or do you prefer Stalinist rule in Russia?
People are not allowed into our country because of their name? A noted singer can’t get off the airline he is on because of his appearance or name? Is this not a way of blockading ourselves? What about when the day comes people want to leave our shores? Will they too be prevented as they were in East Germany before The Wall came down? I hope not.
Looking at the transits of Pluto in the early 1930’s, I see that in early 1931 Pluto was in Cancer and directly opposite Saturn in Capricorn. That is similar to the Pluto and Saturn opposition the world experienced back in September of 2001.
Pluto in Cancer would mean the megalomaniac planet would be in a sign that would be obsessed with securing one’s own territory, along with an iconoclast ‘your with us or against us’ frame of mind. Witness George Bush at his infamous conference at the U.N. back in June of 2002 when he told them that, ipso facto, they were irrelevant and he was going to invade Iraq whether they liked it or not. We all know historically what that led to. So now where do we go from here?
Astrologically, I know that Pluto will be in Capricorn in 2008, just kissing the border of the sign as it were, full steam ahead in 2010. Now in the U.S. natal chart Pluto was in Capricorn at the time of the first revolution, when we broke free from colonial rule and the kingship of England and King George the III.
It is possible that another revolution, albeit a more quiet one, will come to our shores in the next 10 or 15 years. One that will really break down the established institutions we have come to rely on. Will this be good or bad? Time will tell.
For the immediate future, do I see any hopeful signs astrologically? Yes, I do. In July of 2005 when Saturn is in Leo, it may signal a time of lightening of spirit, since Leo is a very theatrical limelight loving and yes royal sign. It also loves playing in the sun and basking in its glory. So we may have more of a focus on celebrities and vacations and creative self expression and one’s own ego and interests may come to the fore. That might just be a good thing, a relief from all this collective holding to our own and hoarding our resources and fear mongering about our security. Maybe its time for a little fun in the sun. Saturn will be in Leo for two and half years. I think we need it.
Also. The north node will be in Aries from the end of 2004. Aries is a more action oriented, focused on the self and its pleasures, fiery minded sign, than the pragmatic, ‘I want more, I need more’, security conscious sign Taurus. Aries is a free thinking, impulsive fighter. A lightening of spirit comes with Aries and with some of the heavier planets lighting up we may collectively do the same.
Jupiter spending most of next year in Libra, again a light air sign, one that weighs the issues and enjoys a good gossip and shopping along with diplomacy and charm, will help us recover from all the gloom and doom we have seen presently.
So we need to keep our chins up and keep going until the aspects ease up and us along with them. Soon, soon, soon.
