Individuals, countries and the world are the sum total of their experience from birth, we are the sum total of all at this moment in time.
On the 18th of April in ’75;
There is nary a man who is now alive
Who remembers that fateful day and year.
On April 19, 1775 the “shot heard around the world” rang out in Lexington, Massachusetts. On that morning just before dawn the British Troops fired upon a group of rebels who had turned against harsh and punitive rules imposed upon them by the corporate and government leaders of the day. These leaders were large corporations overseas and their supportive head was a man suffering from an inherited type of insanity, that man was King George III. At the end of the day on April 19th, as the British Army was in retreat, the Moon, representing the people was at a solid 19 degrees of Sagittarius, and the first volley for freedom had been shot across the bow of oppression.
True we had declared our independence, we wrote a constitution, even elected a Federalist President, John Hansen, but King George III dragged the war on until the Treaty of Paris was signed by the British and Federalists on September 3rd, 1883 in Paris, France and our freedom was assured. The North and South Nodes were at 18/19 degrees Pisces/Virgo axis, squared today by Pluto and GWB’s Uranus, a challenge to our heritage of freedom.
Unfortunately, not all of us were free, and the Civil War was the confrontation of America to put Her money where her mouth was - free the slaves. Slavery stood in the way of “all men are created equal.” Slavery stood in the way of “justice and fairness for all.” At the start of the Civil War on April 12, 1861 Uranus was experiencing a Uranus Return to its 9-degree Gemini placement in the US Chart and Mars was in a conjunction, aggressively demanding “freedom and justice for all.” At 4:30 am the Confederates fired on Fort Sumter. Abraham Lincoln, for whatever reason was determined to end the horrific and obscene stain of slavery, and Mars conjunct Natal US Uranus give him the impetus to take a stand for freedom. Lincoln was an Aquarian and he answered the higher and evolved Uranus call for equality, it cost him his life.
On July 19th 1848 in Seneca Falls, New York, long before the Union’s challenge to Slavery, there was a convention held. At the time it received very little interest, it was later dubbed “A Tempest in a Teapot,” Elizabeth Cady Stanton with her sister and several other women planned and organized the 1st Women’s Conference. The Moon was in Pisces and when Uranus came to a conjunction to that Moon in 1920 women won the right to vote. Pluto in that chart was in a sextile to the US Moon, giving power to the people and to women. Pluto will sextile that point again in 2007-2008, perhaps a woman president will be the result, perhaps a Black Woman President.
The Seneca Falls convention was born out of a frustration women experienced at a June 12, 1840 Anti-Slavery Conference held in London. Although women had been invited to attend, once there they realized they had no voice, no vote. The seeds of the Civil War and the Women’s Rights Movement were born that June in London, England and they have walked side by side ever since (Close Up Foundation: Declaration of Sentiments, Seneca Falls, N.Y., 1848).
Saturn was at 18 degrees Sagittarius and the Sun stood at 21 degrees Gemini, an exact conjunction to the US Mars, ensuring a life long struggle toward equality for the races and for women, but a struggle that would never be abandoned. Saturn is very close to the 21 degrees bringing a realization of the restriction and oppression women and minorities still live under. When Pluto opposes the 21 degree Gemini Sun and transiting Uranus in Pisces squares US natal Uranus, the right of privilege of the White European Male will have its most serious challenge from minorities, particularly the black American and American women of all races. We have been and will continue to be a major irritation to the WASP Agenda. An opposition can mean the “end” of a struggle. Venus in the 1840 chart was at 9 degrees Gemini, another exact conjunction, this time to the US natal Uranus, the fight for equality would take unusual twists and turns. Remember, Uranus rules the US Moon in Aquarius.
What does any of this have to do with us today? Let me be clear, since the inception of this country and Abigail Adams wrote to her husband exhorting him to include women in the Constitution, as in “all men and WOMEN are created equal;” since the first political fight over whether slaves should be freed when we became a country; the fight for equality has never stopped, it goes on. And so the past has everything to do with us today for we are the sum total of the past and present.
A serious attack has been launched toward segregation, and no matter how it’s sugar coated, black leaders see what is happening. The continuing disenfranchisement of the African/American vote is still a giant issue in this country, made worse by the election of 2000. That will not be ignored for long, and the closing out of the black community for fair representation in our leadership is about to end. The Republicans don’t have any African/American in the House or Senate, and they’ve just made a full frontal attack on Affirmative Action.
Women will once again have to fight for their rights to control their own bodies; Roe V. Wade will temporarily be severally weakened, if not overturned, plus, some additional attacks on women’s rights that could be as bad or worse. Claudia Dikinis of Starcats notes, breast exams, birth control and pap smears might be denied to all but the wealthiest women. Claudia Dikinis is rarely wrong in her astrological observations.
Health care will reach crisis proportions with massive demonstrations, met with equally massive government resistance. Again, only the wealthy will be able to afford adequate health care. We better read up on alternative health. I expect soon vitamins and perhaps herbs will be prescription drugs, costing a lot more money than they do right now. Profits going of course to the financially struggling drug companies (CEO’s of these companies must get their salaries up to Enron highs, you understand this don’t you.) The excuse for this will be for our “safety,” we might even read of a few people dying of overdosing on vitamins proving we the people don’t have the intelligence to regulate or read directions.
Environmental Issues were brought to the fore of American Politics in the 1960’s when Rachel Carson penned “Silent Spring.” The 60’s were a time of political shape shifting for the African/American community and for women and the destruction of the environment was added to their lists of concerns. Everything from the air all of us breathe to the conditions of the inner cities. In the 60’s Uranus was in Virgo and square to the US Uranus and the 1840 Venus was in conjunction to the US Uranus, and in one year there will be another square from transiting Uranus to the natal US Uranus and the US SA Mars will trine. After the Bush administration gets finished eliminating environmental laws we will be “breathing more and enjoying it less.”
The war against Iraq, or whoever else stands in the WASP Way, is just another fight against the fear that has been part of the fabric of this country from the beginning. And that fear is partly “if we are part of and equal to all humanity, then the individual will lose power.” In fact, this government was, at one time, afraid to give the vote to women or the black minority. The fear was that those groups would retaliate against them because of the unequal and abusive treatment women and blacks endured at the hands of their own government. They were wrong, there was no retaliation following their right to vote. There will be no retaliation now, but there will be an acknowledgement by women and minorities that the WASP Agenda has been given ample time to work and be fair and they haven’t been up to the task. More women, Hispanics and African/American leaders will stand up and move into their power. Solar Arc Mars trine US Uranus, the planet of the people, we will be in a fighting mood as our toes are being badly stepped on these days.
As stated earlier, when Uranus had a Uranus return in 1861, the Civil War began. During WWII Saturn was conjunct the US natal Uranus and the men went to war and the women went to work. In the 60’s Uranus was in Virgo, squaring its natal position. Uranus will move into Pisces, another square to its natal position, and this time Pluto will oppose US natal Mars and 1840 natal Sun. African/Americans and Women will become a louder and louder voice, it was that configuration that women received the right to vote and the civil rights cause was advanced. Minorities and women didn’t just want to work and vote, they wanted a level playing field, they wanted respect, and they wanted leadership.
George Bush has Mars at 9 degrees Virgo, square the US Uranus and we’ve already discussed the position of his Uranus at 19 degrees Gemini and progressed to 21 degrees Gemini. If I’ve been articulating this clearly and you’ve been following then you know that the US Mars is also 21 degrees Gemini. I fear that GWB is in great danger over the next 18 months, and there will be relentless even ruthless opposition to his policies unless he aligns them with the people.
The State of the Union Address will reflect a belief in the unbridled power of America that George Walker Bush believes is in his hands, that is a belief born out of ignorance and swagger, (with a lot of help from Neptune) “Drunk” is a good metaphor for the gang who think they are leading us, drunk on power, and they won’t recognize the people they wake up to the next morning. Our Attorney General Ashcroft received some well-chosen words from “the rich, powerful and pushy” at the World Economic Forum, from Americans and Foreign leaders alike. Mahathir bin Mohaman the prime minister of Malaysia took Mr. Ashcroft and America to task in front of hundreds. Mahathir said, “The terrorists who attacked the World Trade Center did it because they were incensed with something and we have to find out why. We should not try to amplify the situation, anger them more and lead more people to join this group.” We expect more ‘wise guy’ in America, not ‘big guy,’ said Amr Moussa, the secretary general of the Arab League.
The night of the State of the Union Address finds George Bush’s natal and progressed Uranus on the Midheaven, joined by Saturn, opposed by Pluto and Venus, with Mars in an applying square to GWB Mars and applying opposition to US Uranus. Transiting Uranus is conjoined US Moon and sextiles transiting Moon. Mercury and Chiron squares the US Saturn and opposes GWB and US Sun. There are so many aspects and cross aspects to the natal, progressed and Solar Arc charts of the US, GWB, 1840 Anti Slavery Convention, Seneca Falls Women’s Convention, Civil and Women’s Rights Bill on January 28th, it would take a manual to list them all. Could they have picked a worse day for the State of the Union message? I don’t think so.
In an earlier essay I spoke of leaders who unleash chaos thinking they can control where the chaos hits but they cannot control it once the ‘hounds of hell” have been released. Well, you might listen for the howling of the hounds on January 28th. GWB and buddies need a good astrologer like Ronald Reagan’s. January 28th unleashes the anger of GWB to go for what he wants, it also unleashes the anger of the people and there are more of us than of him. Minorities and women have been in this struggle well over 200 years, he has not. I do have some advice in watching the State of the Union Address, don’t overload your stomach beforehand, keep a bucket and punching bag close by, take two aspirins and remember this too will pass in a blaze of glory.
The powerful array of plants before us brought forth John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Dr. Martin Luther King. Robert F. Kennedy once said, “there go the people, and I must hurry and catch up to them---for I am their leader. A leader is on the horizon now, even though we do not know their name, a maverick, a woman/man for the people who represent the voices of true compassion and justice for all. We the people are leading the way and there will be a “leader” who will catch up to us, the energy of the stars have given us that much information.
So through the night rode Paul Revere:
And through the night went his cry of alarm
To every Middlesex village and farm,---
A cry of defiance, and not of fear,
A voice in the darkness, a knock at the door,
And a word that shall echo for evermore!
For, borne on the night-wind of the Past,
Through all our history, to the last,
In the hour of darkness and peril and need,
The people will waken and listen to hear
The hurrying hoof-beats of that steed,
And the midnight message of Paul Revere.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
