We tend to tell strangers what we think will make us sound good. I myself, to my utter amazement, informed a telephone pollster that I exercised regularly, a barefaced lie.
(Kathy Pollitt, “Reasonable Creatures” (1994)
Politics is not really politics anymore. It is run, for the most part, by Madison Avenue advertising firms, who sell politicians to the public, the way they sell bars of soap or cans of beer. (Helen Caldicott, “If you Love this Planet” (1989)
Who will win, whose turn is it at the wheel? Will the American public bring themselves to the brink of the abyss by turning control of their country into a one party system, or will we keep diversity in politics as one of our stated core values? Will we enforce a true “checks and balance” by splitting the balance of power in the system? We aren’t far away from finding out.
I want to first congratulate the Republicans and Madison Avenue for creating more confusion, fear and divisions than I remember ever seeing in this country. We don’t know if we are in a war, or where we are warring, we don’t know what is the truth or what is a lie, we don’t know if the economy is at the bottom or rising to the top. Iraq is bad for having “weapons of mass destruction,” and being mean to their people, but North Korea is sort of OK, and George Bush is allowing our arms dealers to sell to both countries. We know terrorists are bad and we know they came from Saudi Arabia but the Saudi’s are George Bush’s “eternal friends,” so we are bombing Afghanistan.
We are allowing tax cuts to the CEO’s and their companies who stole from us and we are told this is a good thing. We are demanding that “smokers” stop polluting our air, and we are allowing this administration to remove the Corporate Environmental Guidelines to air and water pollution and we, the people, don’t say a word. The Republicans point fingers of accusations of horrible deeds toward the Democrats, deeds they themselves are guilty of, and the Democrats to a lesser extent are doing the same. It is un-patriotic to question George Bush and his party, but it is our civic duty to question the Democrats And my personal favorite of confused thinking is, “their right-wing fundamentalism is worse than America’s right-wing fundamentalism.”
Unfortunately the Republican Party’s Solar Arc Mars is in a square to their own natal Moon, we can expect a continuation of anger touched with hatred and laced with “dirty tricks” for some time to come. This is definitely not the “party of Lincoln,” and in time, it might not be the party of the Republicans who identify with “Lincoln Politics.” Jim Jeffords is already an example of this phenomenon. (During the McCarthy era of the 50’s Solar Arc Pluto was conjunct Republican Natal Mercury and they were bent on controlling everyone’s thinking and actions)
With Venus retrograde and ruling the Republican Party's eighth house of other people's money, plus falling in their 2nd house of their money, they are not going to be happy with the value they get from this expenditure of money before the election, in fact they won't get value from it. The Democrats are simply “shell shocked” and seemingly have been rendered ineffective. The Democratic Politicians may be failing, but the power of the people is not.
Into this fray we have mid-term elections and we must vote. Our votes count, at least they counted until 2000. Do they or will they count now?
There are signs that America is coming out of her fog left by the dust and smoke and shock of 9/11 but will it be in time to “think” about what we are doing in the Election of 2002? : Let’s take a look.

ARKANSAS
Tim Hutchinson ( R ) DOB: 08/11/1949 – Arkansas progressed Sun squares Tim’s natal Saturn, and AK progressed Mars squares Tim’s natal Jupiter. (loss and some humiliation) Transiting Jupiter will be conj. Tim’s natal Pluto (enormous grab for power)
Mark Pryor (D) DOB: 01/10/1963 Arkansas progressed Sun trine Mark’s Mercury (understanding and appreciation, the Sun shines on his words) Arkansas natal Venus (ruler of their midheaven of power,) trines Mark’s natal Venus (sincere affection)Mark’s progressed Pluto and transiting Mars will be in a conjunction on Election day and it will all be trined by Mark’s Saturn of authority (the mantle of authority and power lay upon your shoulders) Both men have strong aspects for winning, but Hutchinson has stronger aspects for losing and his 2002 Solar Return indicates a potential loss - Pryor noses out Hutchinson
COLORADO
Wayne Allard ( R ) DOB: 12/02/1943 CO and Allard’s Suns trine from Leo to Sag, (strong connection) Allard’s Solar Arc (SA) chart has moved into perfect sextiles to his natal chart (happens at your 60th year., opportunities to fulfill yourself) CO Uranus oppose Allard Saturn (breaking from old into new) Allard has a chance to reinvent himself, do something new. During his term in office transiting Pluto opposed his natal Uranus (often times a change in direction, a new career.) Allard’s SA Mars conjunct CO Mars.
Tom Strickland (D) DOB: 05/16/1952 Strickland doesn’t have nearly the contacts with CO compared to Allard. CO isn’t sure they can or want to trust him and that was the problem in 1996. However, CO SA Moon conjuncts Tom’s Jupiter exactly, and CO SA Jupiter respectively trines Tom’s SA Saturn and sextiles his natal Sun.CO progressed Moon is coming up on a conjunction to Tom’s natal Pluto (the people passing the power to Tom) CO Sun sextile Tom’s Saturn (a feeling that he is owed the opportunity to serve.)
This will be a very close race and due to the negative campaigning on both sides, plus a truly “lackluster performance by Allard. I think Strickland edges Allard out. I have a bias because Colorado is my state, and even the Denver Post says Allard has not served the state well. Neptune is opposing CO Sun, the state is hungry for something, they just don’t know what they want, so they may “sample Strickland” to see if that sits well, Strickland at least seems determined. Colorado is one of those states living under Neptune transits. They are touching “foggy bottom” socially and economically and they don’t seem to have figured it out to date. The State has a natal Mercury/Neptune square and oft times confusion reigns, remember DIA.
GEORGIA
Max Cleland (D) DOB 08/24/1942 Max has transiting Neptune (dreams and illusions or disillusion) opposing his Venus and conjunct Moon (whether the people of Georgia like or dislike him, they do not see him clearly. Chambliss DOB 11.10.1943 is floating under the same clouds. However in Georgia’s SA the midheaven resides at 14 Virgo along with Cleland’s natal Mars and Max’s Mars sextiles his natal Jupiter (the force will be with him) Georgia’s progressed Moon on Cleland’s Mercury (the people like what he has to say.) A note of caution, the good people of Georgia will have to be careful when voting and not pick the wrong name. Cleland should win.
MISSOURI
Jean Carnahan (D) DOB: 12.20.1933 Missouri has a Mutable T-Square (Uranus, Pluto, Mars) they have a hard time making up their minds, very changeable. Mrs. Carnahan also has a Cardinal T-square also involving Uranus, Pluto, Mars – She initiates several things at once and wants to control them all. This aspect might be the reason Missouri voted for her husband in the first place, knowing she would serve, they related to her suffering, also Jean’s Sun feeds into MO t-square and their Saturn feeds hers. They might not want to hurt her feelings. I doubt if they are unhappy with her just not sure about sending a Democrat back to Washington.
Talent ( R ) DOB 10.18.1956 There is something very “ouch” about Mr. Talent’s energy on election night. For one thing transiting Mars is opposing his natal Moon, that can be anger over something, a loss maybe. And Pluto in square to his Mars and Venus opposition hasn’t helped him this year. Talent has to be careful in the last few days or he loses. Hopefully Carnahan hasn’t hurt her chances by bringing a potential “voter fraud” charge against Talent that turns out not to be true. Cautiously Missouri is riding the rail on this one.
NEW JERSEY
Frank Lautenberg (D) DOB: 01.23.1924
Douglas Forrester ( R )
I don’t know Mr. Forrester’s birthrate, but I know when he announced his candidacy, and he has some unfortunate aspects to that candidacy. He actually had a chance against Torricelli but not Lautenberg. New Jersey hates what happened in this race but they like Frank Lautenberg. Lautenberg wins.
NEW HAMPSHIRE
Jeanne Shaheen (D) DOB: 01.28.1947
John E. Sununu ( R) DOB: 09.10.1964
New Hampshire loves security and a sense of home with their stellium in Cancer plus the Midheaven. Someone who makes them feel comfortable, someone they know cares about them, someone solid, Someone like Jeanne Shaheen, someone they have elected three times as Governor. The House of Representatives is such a good place for a popular and energetic young man from New Hampshire who is up and coming, it’s a place for a young man to get his feet wet and see how he does. But for something as important as the Senate, Cancer needs a person who is seasoned and rock solid strong. Jeanne Shaheen is such a person. She wins.
NORTH CAROLINA
Erskine Bowles (D) DOB: 08.08.1945
Elizabeth Dole ( R ) DOB 07.29.1936
Something wrong with the polls here, unless there is a major scandal regarding Mr. Bowles in the next two weeks Bowles Wins. Mrs. Dole tries too hard and wears thin and that is why the polls are dropping behind.
TEXAS
John Cornyn (R ) DOB: 02.02.1952
Ron Kirk (D) 06.27.1954
It all depends on Ron Kirk getting the minority vote out in droves. Texas would actually like to elect Kirk, but I don’t know if they can let themselves, plus the Bush Machine will fight hard and do whatever they have to do not to lose a big seat to the Democrats. If Kirk wins this it will be the biggest upset of the year, however it’s not an impossible task. Ron’s Natal Sun conjuncts the progressed Midheaven of Texas and his Moon is in Texas natal 10th house of the public, plus Texas is set for a shocking upset. At this point however, it looks like a Cornyn Win. Mr. Kirk made a major mistake a few weeks ago, giving the “undecided vote” a chance to get off his track. His one hope is to get the minorities out to vote. I hope I am wrong; Kirk is the better man for the job of representing all of Texas and not just special interests. If this slips away from Mr. Cornyn, he simply will not know or understand what hit him.
