Impeachment

The American psyche is overloaded. What exactly would impeachment do to Americans, to the Nation? Some say it would divide the country. It’s already divided, no water to that argument. What else? Oh, not enough time left in the GOP Reign of Terror to stop them. Ok so each day they continue to slaughter, maim and destroy with impunity around the world, while Nancy and her gang are going to wait them out, use the war as a tool for the next election to insure a Democratic win. Nancy should first sweep up the pieces of confetti that George has strewn across the Capitol which he made from the “Gawd damn’d piece of paper”, the U.S. Constitution. Meanwhile We the People will keep on working, paying our mortgages, our utilities, paying for food, medical care, and putting clothes upon our children, each and every day. Our food supply is unsafe, our pharmaceutical industry is corrupt and our prescriptions can kill us. The entire infrastructure from roads, dams and highways, to bridges, electrical grids and aging levee’s are a recipe for disaster, localized, and adding additional financial hardship to regions already suffering from job loss and out sourcing. Let alone ignoring Global Warming while England goes the way of New Orleans, and have we lifted a finger to help them? Have we collected donations to aid the Brits? There is not one sacred corner of our American psyche that George W. Bush has not befouled with his greed and delusions of godliness. When the smoke clears and the shards of the mirrors are swept away, the reality of depth of their treason will be clear in the light of the moon.

The key word for Aquarius is “I Know”. The Moon represents the People. The full moon in Aquarius, the People Know.

The full moon is conjunct the US S. Node, the Dragon’s Tail. America’s greatest resource is her many Peoples. The full moon amplifies and reveals the awful price we have to pay for the debt George has brought upon us both financially, spirituality and ethically.

The Sun is conjunct the US N. Node, the Dragon’s Head. Shaped like an ipod headset the N. Node acts as receiver with a beneficent Jupiter flavor. What will Jorge assimilate from his advisors?

The People are irritated, irascible, hot and bothered. The moon is sesquiquadrate to the US Mars causing that agitated, aggravated tensed up kind of, go ahead, make my day attitude.

The symbol of the South Node, the Dragon’s Tail is the reverse of your ipod headset. All the actions taken as a Nation good or bad are stored there and are now roiling around in the American psyche. Karma acts as a restrictor and the signature flavor of the S. Node is Saturnian. The full Moon conjunct the US S Node finds We The People discovering the long dirty history of rot that permeates the Federal Government and the Republican Party. The Gawd Fearin’ folk have sunk to depths of depravity, torture, inhumanity and corruption all for the cause of their Lord and Master George W. Bush and his elitist cabal.

Jupiter Rx. in opposition to the US Uranus aggravates the situation in our military. Where reckless idealism and wild extravagances are playing out on the world stage with our sons and daughters cast as the destroyers, humiliators, rapists and thieves, the explosive quality of these energies stands to continue tarnishing the image of America.

The Full Moon amplifies the Sun’s square to the US Mars indicating El Presidente will be losing his cool. Explosive outbursts of temper which are driven by his deep seated mental instability will be agitated to the point of irrationality, moon madness.

Impeachment. What right does Nancy Pelosi exercise that she alone decides if impeachment is on or off the table. Is she denying the Will of the People? When the Constitution (after the confetti is swept up and taped together) provides a remedy for a BAD PRESIDENT, with a BAD CROWD attached to him is available to the People and is thwarted by the very Congressional Representatives that the People have sent to represent them, how do they dare defy the People? They become cowards and enablers. The Founding Father’s provided a remedy. Impeachment. Impeach the whole traitorous bunch, not just onesie twosie, all the rats. When Nixon left, the rats were left to feed and grow and look we now have King Rat!

The drum beat grows louder, new voices join the chorus. The beast of sleeping America is aroused and angry. Bang those pots and pans, make a loud American noise. We are One America of many peoples, none greater or lesser all are equal, and if not, they we the People need to fix that too.

The full moon is about manifestation, culmination, completion. The impact of the full moon falling in the US Second House and the huge adjustment the stock market has to make will be very painful. My husband noted that Darth Cheney has moved his investments out of the US, America take note. Don’t get caught out in the cold when the financial markets come back down to reality. May be one day everyman can afford a home.

My husband noted that Darth Cheney has moved his investments out of the US.

Morgana, I know an awful lot of people going that route. What does it mean to be caught out in the cold? I have a couple of piddling mutual funds as I lost everything in my bankruptcy. And I still can't find a steady source of income....seems to me reality would be an administration which protects americans themselves instead of their own hides. But then, when it comes to money, how many people actually back up their talk with action? Even the most strident activists probably have some stake in the markets.

Since I am so flat broke, I don't really care personally; I may never be able to own anything here again unless the lottery strikes (gotta play it, tho) But it is an interesting question which someone posed to me...how far will people's idealism go when their bank accounts will be affected by the outcome?

I wish I could figure out the reason why Nancy took impeachment off the table. I think our reps are so twisted with being in the beltway that they lose sight of what is really going on.

Posted by: judigem on July 29, 2007 11:26 PM

How synchronistic! I just read this article in After Dowing Street that says John Nichols says it isn't up to any one, not even Pelosi whether impeachment is on the table or not. Evidently Kucinich putting impeachment for Cheney up and having members join him slowly is the correct process....

http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/?q=node/25098

[snip]
The internal strife on the left probably doesn’t make much difference to the chances for impeachment, he [Nichols] says. That’s because, Nichols explains, no one leader in the House can make impeachment happen.

“John Conyers wants to impeach, there’s no question of that. He wrote a book on it last year. He moved the proposal to set up a special committee to do it. But Pelosi has made it clear she doesn’t want to do it,” Nichols says.

“We’re exactly where we’ve been all along, which is this process is going to have to go member by member, getting them to sign on. John Conyers would be absolutely delighted if he were forced to take up impeachment.”

The notion that John Conyers or Nancy Pelosi can make impeachment happen is mistaken, Nichols says. “The way Jefferson and Madison set it up, it’s supposed to be an organic process–it comes from people slowly convincing individual members to step up.”

Thank you, Morgana. How I hope the American people do rouse and roar!

This full moon certainly has me all stirred up (conj. my MC and within 4 degrees conj. my Sun, and 30 degrees from natal Saturn/Mars conj.)

On Sally's article previous, at end of comments I posted this link-
http://www.consortiumnews.com/2007/072707a.html
about Bush's possible actions through 2008. I think we absolutely have to impeach.

judigem, I totally agree with your last paragraph. When I was in federal civil service I so often saw that "we know best" attitude from people who had been in D.C. too long. And often when they thought they knew best, they didn't have a clue.

lunaoscura, thanks for your reminder that Impeachment isn't up to Nancy Pelosi--it is up to us.

After reading your and Garry's exchange about "M Peach Mints" on last thread, and ShezSpiritEye's link, I ordered several boxes of mints (Im Peach Mints).

Will be mailing one to Nancy Pelosi.

Was motoring over to thank Morgana for this article (had read it earlier, but needed to run some errands), and scanned the news on the way. Over at DailyKos there is a post that one of her constituents contacted Ellen Tauscher (weird district, including parts of Contra Costa and Solano Counties, CA), US Rep (and a Dem) about impeaching Groanzales. Tauscher's office wrote her back that the AG is not subject to impeachment. Somebody help me pick my chin up off the floor--please! It's fallen down and I cannot get it back up.

I did love the article, Morgana. Thanks ever so much.

Judigem,

On July 11th, the US Senate unanimously voted to give Bush a Blank Check boost to bomb Iran whenever he wished through the Lieberman War On Iran amendment (97-0!!).

AIPAC-the American Israel Public Affairs Committee- is undeniably the most powerful single issue lobbying group (security for Israel) in Washington, as you know, and reportedly pays nearly 1/2 of every Congress members campaign funds. When a Congress critter votes against AIPAC their funds are given to their next campaign's opponant and they lose.

Nancy Pelosi Bows to the power of AIPAC, and she is pro war w/ Iran, as are Hillary, Edwards, Obama, and Russ Feingold, even though he had earlier voted against the Iraq War Authorization and the Patriot Act.

Do you think this recent unanimous Senate vote showed us what is really going on in Congress. Could Nancy Pelosi et al Not want to Impeach a Pres. who also wants to bomb Iran, as they all seem to declare by their recent 97-0 vote?

I've been wracking my brain also, why she is so determined against impeaching our domestic WH enemy.

Israel will not really be more secure w/ another war against their
Arab enemies, Russia and China may defend Iran, and everyone loses except the Military contractors e.g. Halliburton & Carlyle (Congress' other main contributors along w/Big Pharma!).

Things are slowly turning around.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/07/28/VOTING.TMP&tsp=1

State-sanctioned teams of computer hackers were able to break through the security of virtually every model of California's voting machines and change results or take control of some of the systems' electronic functions, according to a University of California study released Friday.
The researchers "were able to bypass physical and software security in every machine they tested,'' said Secretary of State Debra Bowen, who authorized the "top to bottom review" of every voting system certified by the state.
Neither Bowen nor the investigators were willing to say exactly how vulnerable California elections are to computer hackers, especially because the team of computer experts from the UC system had top-of-the-line security information plus more time and better access to the voting machines than would-be vote thieves likely would have.

Posted by: lunaoscura on July 30, 2007 04:49 AM

shylurker, I know how you feel--my chin fell to the floor when I read your post. The AG surely is a civil Officer of the United States.

Article II, Section 4 of the Constitution: "The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other High Crimes and Misdemeanors."

Posted by: Barbara on July 30, 2007 05:26 AM

Morgana, I love your article. Every paragraph had at least one "keeper" sentence. You are right on every count and why haven't we offered aid to England, they are in horrible shape, equally as bad as New Orleans. We can be a piece of work in this country. Anyway, thanks for your work it was perfect timing.

Shy, are you kidding? Tauscher's office actually said the AG isn't subject to impeachment? That just proves what Bruce Fine the constitutional attorney on Bill Moyers said "most Representatives and a good many in the Senate, don't know or understand the Constitution, I would say her response was proof positive that is the case. And the AG is certainly impeachable as is all Cabinet appointments as well as members of the Supreme Court.

Posted by: Sally on July 30, 2007 05:26 AM

You're right, Sally. Maybe we should make the congress critters pass a test on the Constitution before they can run for or assume office.

kat, passage of that amendment about Iran just chilled my blood.

Watch Dave Lindorff and Barbara Olshansky lay out the case for impeaching Bush on Atlantic Free Press (four segments)
http://www.apfn.org/apfn/impeach_pres.htm

This is probably the reason why we will not have impeachments. This to convenient, a tool.

Martial Law Threat is Real
The looming collapse of the US military in Iraq, of which a number of generals and former generals, including former Chief of Staff Colin Powell, have warned, is happening none too soon, as it my be the best hope for preventing military rule here at home.

From the looks of things, the Bush/Cheney regime has been working assiduously to pave the way for a declaration of military rule, such that at this point it really lacks only the pretext to trigger a suspension of Constitutional government. They have done this with the active support of Democrats in Congress, though most of the heavy lifting was done by the last, Republican-led Congress.

Maybe one of you hasn't realized his/her potential. If you should have these aspects who would care about impeachment!
http://www.ciuboda.com/post/billionaires-astrology-profile-horoscope/82

Conclusions

The most present aspect in a billionaire chart is between Neptune and Chiron with 54% from the total number of persons ( on the US Presidents analysis only 24% had a Neptune-Chiron aspect). In my opinion we should relate this aspect with the one found on the second place of occurances: Venus-Neptune with 50%. I think that this Venus-Neptune-Chiron trio it’s a billionaire pattern - 44% of them had also an aspect between Venus and Chiron. Venus-Neptune-Chiron in my opinion is an indication of a visionary peoples with strong intuition and ability to lead other persons for reaching their personal goals. These persons are seeing opportunities in every aspect of their lifes.....

Posted by: Charles on July 30, 2007 11:15 AM

Another millionaire/billionaire aspect that is most often reliable is Mars to Jupiter or Neptune (even if it's just in the same sign) and billions can be tracked with the Jupiter to Neptune aspect. Even a Mars inconjunct Neptune is valid.

Tr Venus is now retrograde, making an impact on all the signs particularly those with Sun/Moon/ or Venus in Libra or Taurus. As one astrologer put it a retrograde Venus in Leo can mean the rise or fall of leaders, (leaders? huh, I use the term loosely when discussing what we have that passes for leaders now) I do expect some major candidates on both sides dropping out of the race
now or immediately after Venus goes direct Sept. 9th. I also expect the possibility of a new candidate and or candidates getting in the race between now and the middle of September.

Venus retrograde can rekindle old relationships, end troubled relationships. Not a good time to buy any luxury items especially but also furniture, clothes etc. Won't be happy with them after September. Good time for second marriages, hard time for brand new love affairs.

Gordon Brown landed in the US on the Venus retrograde, any new alliances formed with the US won't go well, although they could be confirm old alliances formed between the US and Blair. England does not trust Gordon Brown at all and neither should we. He has not handled the flooding in England at all well and people won't forget that, they didn't trust him before the recent flooding and it's not going to improve (his standing)

Count on high drama for America and the world with Venus retrograding back into Leo, back over all the Saturn/Neptune opposition points hit this last year.

Full Moon in Aquarius

Eight Verses SoundArtwork

This is the Full Moon of the Guru: Guru Purnima. A night dedicated to thanking all our teachers, in every walk of life. An Aquarius Full Moon asks us to especially honor unique and revolutionary teachers: those who vision far out beyond the rest of us. Those dedicated to upliftment, freedom, utopianism and humanitarianism.

Aquarius rules the global community and also the global nervous system. Our global community has become pathological in its need to cling to aggression as the only tool to get, maintain, or defend power. It seems we have condoned losing touch with our basic humanity in name of security. This is Saturn winding up its last month in Leo; diligently making it clear that power in the hands of those with little compassion, narrow vision, and a mindless attachment to hatred and victimology, brings only massive death and destruction. I am beyond disbelief at this point with the senseless violence on all sides of every conflict.

Oh, Cap'n Sally, I loved this sentence in your post about Venus above:
"I also expect the possibility of a new candidate and or candidates getting in the race between now and the middle of September."

You didn't mention any names, but a person can hope, can't she? Al, Al, Al! Woot! Woot!

Posted by: shylurker on July 30, 2007 04:10 PM

Sadly, with Gore's Venus being in Taurus he could also put a complete end to speculation Shy. We will just have to wait and see. It's all an iffy project right now. I really wouldn't see the Venus retrograde being a problem for him because this is a second run and would work like a "second marriage" Venus retrograde is usually very good for second marriages, so why not for second presidential run.

Posted by: Sally on July 30, 2007 04:24 PM

Thanks so much for the additional comment, Cap'n Sally. Hope just keeps springing from this ol' heart o'mine.

Posted by: shylurker on July 30, 2007 04:26 PM

Me too Shy, me too, even though I know that Al Gore isn't the second coming and will bring his own issues with him, it's the best hope that we have as far as I can see.

Posted by: Sally on July 30, 2007 04:33 PM

Morgana, thank you for this article. I didn't follow up on the info regarding the vote to fund Iraq aggression and Iran. So they all went along? I think that the fascist takeover is almost in place now.
I don't have the option of putting my "savings" in better places. I have a civil service retirement plan and a deferred comp plan. My best choice was to use socially sensitive plans on the deferred comp. The county retirement system is totally invested in the dark side.
I know that some will say that I am too depressed but I do believe that the takeover is almost in place.Hitler's Brown Shirts were the KAKI, the DyneCorp, the Deepwater of that day. No one talks about the 9/10/2001 talk of 2 trillion missing from the Pentagon.
Morgana-I have understood for months turning to years now that these people will not give up because they are democratically voted out. A side note: are you aware of all the cutting our moviestar governor is up to? People forget that he is there representing Pete Wilson and the like because the PR has been so good.
Most of the people I work with are just totally uninformed and based on some mild efforts on my own to open up the flow of info these people will go along with the government quite a long way. They aren't evil just passive and really worried about being sure that their children can remain middle-class. This is expensive and hard now now like it was shen I was a child or even when my daughter was a child.
We need "the press" if we are to take this society back. the people I work with get their news from the TV. If they listen to radio it is either their children's music or the NPR stations no alternate or progressive talk in their lives.

Posted by: clymela on July 30, 2007 04:58 PM

Oh please forgive the typos, etc. I am currently under the influence of a pain reliever which is probably why I felt free to write out my feelings. I usually don't because I don't have a solution in mind and I think it is very negative to talk and offer no solutions.

Posted by: clymela on July 30, 2007 05:11 PM

Clymela, you take care of yourself. Did you hurt your back, is that the pain? You are right, the media needs to step up, the thing that amazes me is how world wide spread all this is. It's not just the US it is everywhere. Nothing lasts forever and their day will come, of that I am positive. People will eventually rise up and take themselves back, maybe not all the people but enough to make it happen.

Posted by: Sally on July 30, 2007 05:33 PM

You brought tears to my eyes asking about me when your family has been shaken to the roots. And yes it is a back/neck thing and I don't know that the pain pills help so much but they sure do blend everything together.
I,also, have been noticing the "world wide" quality of what is going on. Is it a Christian/Islam thing? Or just a corporate/individual thing? Maybe just the end of Western Civilization? And lucky us to be born in interesting times?
Some believe that the uprising will be in the time that uranus and pluto square each other. Another astrologer said that that is when the gloves will come off so to speak. I don't know. I only know that daily, almost, I am mumbling to myself,"I don't believe that I am hearing this, thinking this, SEEING this". and it seems so fast to me. Seems that just yesterday I was feeling relatively secure and now I trust nothing and no one (present company excluded you know). I seriously doubt that I will be able to draw down on the Social Security and Civil Service pension judging from the weekly columns about how unaffordable pensions and retiree health coverage have become.
Love to you kind woman and prayers for your daughter and the twins. I will be interested to see if they, the twins, are always pushing at limits.
I too believe that the current war lords will not succeed in the end. I am just startled that people seem so asleep right now, that they aren't awakened by the tectonic plates rubbing against each other and all the lightening and thunder and the screams and crying. You know?

Posted by: clymela on July 30, 2007 06:11 PM

I think about the truly dark times I've had in my life and there have been quite a few, but I am still here living, laughing and watching my family grow with their own lives and families and I look back at the dark times in history, times all our families slogged through and they made it, and I believe we will too. My new little granddaughter (one half of the twin) has been so frail and fragile with lots of concerns, but just this week she seems to have turned a corner, the exact same week that Paris Hilton's grandfather cut all his wayward grandchildren out of his will. I think a corner is turning for us all, it could be my imagination but I believe I hear the beginning groans of the pendulum turning. All we can do is wait and see.

Back problems are the worst and I hope you are taking good care of yours. Let's try to surround it with white light, I have actually had success with that. Please let me know how you are.

Posted by: Sally on July 30, 2007 07:17 PM

Clymela, I am not kind, I absolutely don't want to lose your valuable insights on AW. That's why you have to get well, you are so bright and insightful I want you on your game, so to speak. You take care please.

Posted by: Sally on July 30, 2007 07:21 PM

Sally!! Thank you so much. And I too have benfited by "distance healing" and white light and all of that use of the imagination. anything you or anyone else does for healing is helping now.
Briefly, I think that I may be short of info regarding your daughter and the twins. If this isn't too awkward I would like an update.
And then back to astrology and the collective, etc. Morgana thanks again for your article I like your plain talking. Like I said I don't have anything to protect or rather what i do have that does need protection is not under my control.
By the way I can't get over the lack of outrage over Halliburton moving to Dubai. Seems to me that these people know that the American public will be wanting more than subpoenas served when the news comes out about the shape we are in. Maybe there is outrage but no one to report on it.

Inslee to introduce Gonzales impeachment tomorrow.

Rep. Jay Inslee (D-WA) is introducing legislation that would require the House Judiciary Committee and the House of Representatives to begin an impeachment investigation into Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, in the wake of his damaging testimony last week. The legislation reads:

Resolved: That the Committee on the Judiciary shall investigate fully whether sufficient grounds exist for the House of Representatives to impeach Alberto Gonzales for high crimes and misdemeanors.

Wrote Rep. Ellen Tauscher a tactful letter about how the Constitution definitely says we can impeach Gonzales and asked her to support Enslee's resolution.

Kat, the investment market portrayed today is a Fata Morgana, like politics..etc. The whole system is geared to produce air numbers and things of no real value.
The same astrological aspects that apply to politics also do apply to the investment business as to other areas of our daily life.
If we will have a renewal, I sure hope so, the kind of investment modus as of now has to collapse too!. The question is when!?
So for the next 20-plus years, investing into Real Estate, other than land with water rights and water and agriculture/woods will be of no interest- as a profitable investment and so on.
Unfortunately we, the working poor do not have many possibilities.
Get some gold and silver bullion, get rid of your depths that is about the extent of our possibilities. As long as you are depth ridden, you are the slave of the "superiors" and at their mercies.I know this is not much help - I do not know the solution or what is the correct strategy.

Novak: Bush considering secret military action in Turkey

Nick Juliano
Raw Story
Monday July 30, 2007

A former aide to Vice President Dick Cheney is briefing lawmakers on Pentagon plans for secret military intervention in Turkey, Robert Novak reported Monday.

The Bush administration is considering covert military activity by U.S. Special Forces to help Turkish troops quash Kurdish guerilla fighters, who are believed to be using northern Iraq as safe-haven, according to the syndicated columnist.

Undersecretary of Defense Eric S. Edelman, a former Cheney aide, briefed lawmakers on Capitol Hill last week on the plans. The plans call for secret U.S. involvement to assist Turkish action against the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

Edelman's name emerged in news reports earlier this month after he wrote to Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) what many saw as an overly harsh letter in response to her requests about troop withdrawals from Iraq. The letter said her request "reinforces" enemy propaganda.

Members of Congress were stunned after Edelman briefed them on plans calling for U.S. Special Forces to help Turkey eliminate PKK leaders they have targeted for years, Novak reports. Edelman told the lawmakers that he was "sure of success," according to Novak, and assured them the U.S. role would be concealed and denied.....

IMPEACH IMPEACH IMPEACH!
Remember that "feel good story" back in 2003 about the number of Kurdish babies ( living in caves underground for safety from our bombing,) named George Bush?
Unfortunatel I wasn't asociated closely enough with Helen & Granny! I missed the fair, having done the sidewalk artshow in Milbridge Saturday. I spent the day at home, arranging the prints, cards, etc. I had hauled out, for viewing in the Gallery.
I have 3 new calendar pages for 2008! I bought some free standing lucite frames to display them, and to sell along with the calendars.
Busy Bee here.. now to go write that impeachment letter to Mike Michaud.

Garry, I see it as an idea who's time has come. Mother Jones and Mike Gravel are planting the seed for what may turn out to be true Democracy in the future. Imagine a world where your input is actually what passes laws, sets policy and makes decisions.

Of course I believe civics should then be taught again, and as an important part of a citizenship curriculum. Perhaps those people who don't get involved now because they feel nothing they do makes a difference will participate.

There are many problems to solve in the interim, such as hackability, security issues, etc.

Stock Markets From: Marjorie. (31 Jul 2007 11:57):
Stock market astrology is a highly specialised area but on the broad sweep the New York Stock Exchange chart and the Dow Jones charts do show up the volatility and insecurity in the US market at the moment. Pluto is trine Saturn till Oct 07 (tough going, cutbacks) and sextile Neptune in Oct 07 (panicky); Uranus opposition Mars (insecurity and great fluctuations) now till August and again Feb/March, Nov/Dec 08 and Saturn just off an opposition to Pluto in mid July 07 is heading for a Sun square in August 07 (damps enthusiasm) on the NY Exchange chart. While on the Dow Jones First Index chart Uranus triggers Saturn in Gemini and Mars in Virgo through 07 (again great anxiety, hardship, frustration); Saturn square Neptune in early July 07 (panic)and Saturn is conjunct Pluto in Sept 07, April/May 08 (=stuck).
Late 2008 will see the transitting Uranus Saturn opposition usually a hint of economic setbacks aspecting key points in both the US financial charts and then continuing in 2009 to create more upheavals....

........."The moonlight on the breast of the new fallen snow, gave a luster of midday to objects below."...
The Lunatic Society met on full moon nights so the members would be able to see how to ride their horses home after the meetings.

Serious biological science shows that marine life living in a still tank of water in the middle of a continent will follow the tides as if tides existed where no oceans have been.
It also reveals that some plants also change behavior according to the phase of the moon in the part of the earth where they are rooted.

A new article in popular science says there is no way the moon can affect life on earth because of the distance and offers proof that the number of accidents are slightly reduced on full moon nights. Why?

The major and most ignored connection that I can see is the light. I have no problem with knowing that before the excessive amount of electric and automobile lights brightened up our nights, a full moon was really something to see and to use to see the surrounding area.
The refected light of the moon is never as clear or as bright as a modern city nightscape, if more people ventured out at night, then more people would possibly have more accidents than on nights when the weather was not clear and there was no full moon. With the moon added to the already illuminated nights of any city, it is easier to see where you are going at night and easy enough with out the moon.
Who has not been awakened at night by the light of the moon? I continue to be astonished by the scientists or science journalists who do not see the most obvious effect of the full moom on a clear night.......light. The major visible effect of the full moon is not relevant in any city.
True light at night is no longer rare, but as I took a picture of the full moon over Suzhou with my new telephone I that do not know how to operate because I can not read the instructions I must point out that the moon is still a nice touch above the brighter lights of buildings and cars.
All of this leads me to believe that the scientific journalism we accept is no better than the political journalism we discuss so often here and reject. I am thankful that we have other sources besides the entertainment media to look at for answers.
Now as for the lights on the moon itself I will accept that they are caused by escaping gas bubbles as gas from an old zinc mine in Oklahoma can often be seen on a full moon night and phosphorous bubbles arise from swamps and light up any night in the summer. Maybe even the Marfa lights in Texas can be explained by watchers who ate too much chilli. Who knows?

Posted by: Betsy on August 1, 2007 09:47 AM

Oh yes absolutely Betsy!
A friend asked on the phone th other night if I had seen the full moon rise......unhappily this month it rose behind the street light to the South west of me. In the other 3 directions, I can see celestial events beautifully!
In my old community in NJ, there were no street lights; we actually had "gas lights" ( installed in the 20's) BUT this week, they had another heavy weather event, high winds & 100 trees blown down, trees are defoliated by gypsy moths, they just restored the 2 lakes that drained out when the dams burst in 2004. at cost to themselves.......................
I'll take the street light!
??? If the polar ice is melting, will we have Northern Lights again?
They were spectacular here a few years ago, & in 2003, the night before my Grandson's baptismal ceremony, we had a spectacular light show in the Catskills.
I even saw them in South Jersey back in the late 50's.

As teens, after one of us got a license, we started spending Sat. & Sun. at a desolate beach on the Deleware Bay. We built a roaring fire out of driftwood, baked potatos in the embers and grilled dogs & burgers. Then we would swim.....the phosphorescense in the water was wonderful to see. We called ourselves the Beachcombers Inc.!

It seems that the Northern lights will be avialable because they are in the air but I think they might change colors if the air is not cold. I really do not know anything about it.bjt

Posted by: Betsy on August 1, 2007 01:05 PM

QOP and Betsy, I saw the Northern Lights once--it was in north Georgia. Read later that they are seldom seen this far south. It was a cold, cold night and we were camped on a high ridge. The sky was red from horizon to horizon. I thought at first that there must be a huge forest fire some distance away.

I've heard that in more northern latitudes there are more colors.

Posted by: Barbara on August 1, 2007 02:34 PM

Entirely red northern lights are sometimes seen, particularly at lower latitudes, and are often mistaken for a fire on the horizon.
Aurora Borealis L MEANS RED DAWN OF THE NORTH.
Was named by Italian Scientist, Galileo Galilei.
Northern lights originate from our sun. During large explosions and flares, huge quantities of solar particles are thrown out of the sun and into deep space. These plasma clouds travel through space with speeds varying from 300 to 1000 kilometers per second.
On their way down towards the geomagnetic poles, the solar particles are stopped by Earth's atmosphere, which acts as an effective shield against these deadly particles.
And all my life I have thought they were caused by a reflection from the Polar ice!
THat explains why they are more prevelant during high sunspots cycles!
My Grandson's show was all white, shimmering in curtains risomg & falling, ( like a colonial flamestitch pattern.)
SInce then here in Maine one night they were hot pink, in bands, that arced all the way up over the sky, from all compass points making it look like a giant easter basket with ribbons!
Here's the whole story!

Yes, folks, there is a real George Bush. And he is not, as I have been saying with increasing frequency in recent commentaries here and columns at ThePoliticalJunkies.net, deranged, delusional, or a raving lunatic. In his July 20, 2007, NY Times column "All the President's Enablers," Paul Krugman said, among other things: "In a coordinated public relations offensive, the White House is using reliably friendly pundits . . . . to put out the word that President Bush is as upbeat and confident as ever. . . . Iraq is a bloody quagmire. . . . Yet Mr. Bush remains confident. Sorry, but that's not reassuring; it's terrifying. It doesn't demonstrate Mr. Bush's strength of character; it shows that he has lost touch with reality."

That Bush remains confident is terrifying alright, but not for the reason Prof. Krugman puts forth. It's not that he has lost touch with reality. Let's take Iraq. Do you think the Georgites don't know exactly what is going on in Iraq, just like they knew for sure what wasn't going on in Iraq (building WMD, connecting with OBL) before they went in? The reality in Iraq is exactly what he wanted when he sent U.S. troops in there. You think it's "victory," when he has had so many chances to declare it: well, yes, no WMD; well, yes, the U.S. caught Hussein; the Iraqis had elections; the Iraqis formed a government; the Iraqis are moving (ever so slowly, but they are moving) to give the U.S. control over some significant part of their oil; there are the bases; Iraqi troops are getting trained (to do what exactly is a matter of conjecture, but they are).

It is presumed that this complex apparatus, including the barbs on the sting, evolved specifically in response to predation by vertebrates, as the barbs do not usually function (and the sting apparatus does not detach) unless the sting is embedded in fleshy tissue. While the sting can also penetrate the flexible exoskeletal joints in appendages of other insects (and is used in fights between queens), in the case of Apis cerana defense against other insects such as predatory wasps is usually performed by surrounding the intruder with a mass of defending workers,
who vibrate their muscles so vigorously that it raises the temperature of the intruder to a lethal level.

This is also used to kill a queen perceived as intruding or DEFECTIVE, an action known to beekeepers as balling the queen, named for the ball of bees formed. (Could we try this maybe?)

Bush Fulfilling His Grandfather's Dream

www.smirkingchimp.com/node/9012

by David Swanson | Jul 28 2007

It's remarkably common for a grandson to take up his grandfather's major project. This occurred to me when I read recently of Thor Heyerdahl's grandson taking up his mission to cross the Pacific on a raft. But what really struck me was the BBC story aired on July 23rd documenting President George W. Bush's grandfather's involvement in a 1933 plot to overthrow the U.S. government and install a fascist dictatorship. I knew the story, but had not considered the possibility that the grandson was trying to accomplish what his grandfather had failed to achieve. O, judigem, what a gem. Saw the story but hadn't thought of it quite in that context.

Tonight attended book signing/talk by Thomas E. Ricks, the WaPo Pentagon correspondent. Hicks has good military connections. His latest book is about our invasion of Iraq and is entitled Fiasco.

This was a depressing evening, full of depressing facts. Rick's summary of the situation is that there is no good outcome.

What was especially interesting to me is that Ricks is all about HOW and not at all about WHY. IMO, if things are going to turn out well, you always have to consider WHY.

Tom Hopke is a Vedic Astrologer who has written some mundane predictions. I remember reading this one earlier in the year:
= = = = = = = =
The new Vedic year of Sharvari runs from April '07 through April '08 and should bring much rain on the earth, promoting agricultural production. Excessive rain in some areas will lead to flooding, causing the loss of life and wealth. The present levels of war in the world will not get better, but won't get worse. In the eastern world, one Muslim country will increase its enmity toward the USA and Europe. The following countries will adopt strong political stances to deal with local and international issues: the USA, England, Germany, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Turkey. There will be the sudden death of a top leader between May 2 and May 31. Israel and Lebanon will again create tension. Pakistan's leader faces a tough year.

Between July 31 and August 11, there will be train accidents, plane crashes and fear from natural disasters in the world and in India.

I'm planning to NOT set foot in an airplane until after Aug. 11. This man has been uncannily correct in his predictions.

ye gods, Cliss, the bridge collapse and all the small plane crashes today and in the last week. And that bridge collapse took me right back to the earthquake in SF in 1989...shivers. Lots of drama going on in Minneapolis...it took 5 years for San Francisco to rebuild their freeways after Loma Prieta and the Bay Bridge collapse, plus all those freeways.

I read the Mystery Poster stuff and agree, Shy, it is pretty amazing...I would guess a present or past DOJ person....a lawyer or paralegal? a must read, even when not understanding the whole thing.

Barbara, I have come across the most amazing stories which relate to today which actually were generated by my search in genealogy. The prescottbush/nazifunding story I ferreted out looking for my CT roots and found that...then the plot to overthrow the whitehouse...last year I found that as I was looking for my Butler/Quaker roots....the first one was my Brown family roots which turned out to lead me to the fact that the smirking chimp (and johnkerry, too) and I are distant cousins. I think the bushDNA contains fascist roots. I didn't get those!

Pat QP...the 'illuminati' families are original settlers in CT and MA...I am also from those families, and ALL the US presidents (except Clinton) are descended from them, plus VPs, judges, corporate presidents, and Dec of Independence signersetc. I read that one on a web page which listed John Kerry's lineage. I didn't actually know there was a LIST of illuminati families...would love to see it. I'll bet you didn't know that Jimmy Carter and Richard Nixon are cousins, did you? hahaha

As a matter of fact, FDR was hated and reviled by his family and relatives because he 'betrayed' his 'class' by trying to relieve the woes of other americans. Sure would like to see the list of illuminati....

In Violation of Federal Law, Ohio's 2004 Presidential Election Records Are Destroyed or Missing

By Steven Rosenfeld, AlterNet

Posted on July 30, 2007, Printed on August 2, 2007
http://www.alternet.org/story/58328/

Two-thirds of Ohio counties have destroyed or lost their 2004 presidential ballots and related election records, according to letters from county election officials to the Ohio Secretary of State, Jennifer Brunner.

The lost records violate Ohio law, which states federal election records must be kept for 22 months after Election Day, and a U.S. District Court order issued last September that the 2004 ballots be preserved while the court hears a civil rights lawsuit alleging voter suppression of African-American voters in Columbus.

Bad news really does come in threes. The Iraq Debacle and the continued hounding of Afghans are said to cost $10 billion a month, according to CNN. Working my abacus, I come up with $333,333,333 a day.

Where's the money going? Robert Parham, executive director of the Nashville-based Baptist Center for Ethics, breaks down the breakdown in Iraq and talks about the human cost, especially the cost to Iraq's kids.

Meanwhile, George W. Bush is fighting against the spending of a relatively piddling $47 billion ? spread out over five years ? To provide health coverage for poor American kids.

Five months of war or health care for American kids? Tough choice.

WILL BUSH-CHENEY ATTEMPT A COUP?

Personally I don’t think they will, but I don’t think it can be ruled out. I think that from September, as the next report on Iraq comes in, Bush will be so cornered and humiliated politically that it becomes very difficult to have any sense of what he might do. In the normal run of things he is quite predictable – his ‘surge’ in Iraq, for example, was fairly foreseeable.

As our elected officials prepare to vote on our energy future tomorrow, our opposition is really cranking up, and we need to match them! If we're going to be heard over the utility and manufacturing lobbyists, we're going to have to come out in full force.

If you haven't yet made a call to your representative asking them to vote yes on a national renewable energy standard, please do so today.

If you don't know who your representative is, that's OK. Just call the Congressional switchboard at 202-224-3121, tell the operator where you live, and they will connect you.

Here's a sample message you can leave: "Hello, my name is ____ and I live in_____. I'm calling to urge Rep. _____ to vote yes on the H.R. 969, the Udall (D-NM)-Platts (R-PA) renewable electricity standard."

Then, let us know that you've called by clicking on the link below.

It is about an anonymous poster not only here but other sites. Clearly the same person. What this person/whistleblower is suggesting scares the living crap out of me. Not just because it shows how this country is no longer under the control of the People....but that it may never be again. I also have a level of concern for his/her safety. Does anyone (Josh) know if the diary is accurate?

JudiGem and Pat C, I haven't checked in on the main threads (last I did look, it seemed both DKos and DU have at least two threads each on it as interest has been overwhelming) all day today, waiting for the experts and techies to reach some sort of reasonable conclusion. While I certainly can't take part in any of those discussions (way over my head), I did notice that as time went on the threads seem to be attracting quite a few trolls and, perhaps, even some copy-cats of the person(s) who originally posted. I'm going to review the posts made that first day or so over at tpm and try and ignore the others that are supposedly from the same source. Fascinating, ain't it?

Impeachment Dilemma

The Saturn/Neptune oppositions all through this year have been profound and complete. We are seeing the reality of our illusions all these years ooze like the sand our foundation was built. Our infrastructures are crumbling, the environment is falling apart, we can't trust our food imports or even food in this country, we cannot trust the medicines given us and today we are told that Karl Rove will not honor a congressional subpena and his aide will not even tell the American people what he does, even though we pay him. And Congress sits impotent. It's one step before we are told there will be martial law and no more elections. We have and have had a dirty little country and thus far the helplessness to make any change seems difficult if not impossible. Change will come and things can change within the twinkling of an eye but for right now, wait and watch.

Judigem, just google Bill Clinton+Bloodline, very illuminating.

A genealogy book titled Ancestors of American Presidents which shows the Russell bloodline in Bill Clinton’s ancestry.[x] Fritz Springmeier reports that this Russell family is a German Jewish family originally spelled ‘Roessel’ which migrated to Scotland.[xi] Hillary recently announced her Jewish ancestry. Will Bill do the same? The Jews have their version of the Antichrist named Armilus. After hearing some of the orthodox Jews like Gershon Solomon, founder and head of the Temple Mount Faithful, comment on Bill Clinton's betrayal of Israel, I think Bill has qualified for the position of Armilus to the Jews. He just hasn’t been declared so yet. I believe he will do more to earn his title.

HRES 333 IH

H. RES. 333

Impeaching Richard B. Cheney, Vice President of the United States, for high crimes and misdemeanors.

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES April 24, 2007

is one is H. R. 333 set forth Jan. 2007,& the other is H. Res.
333, set forth April 2007; it being the Kuchinich Impeach CHeney bill????
Why are the numbers SO SIMILAR? Tom Allen's aid, said the impeach bill had been set aside; yet, 2 new Congressmen just signed on to it & it is still in committee! ?

China tells living Buddhas to obtain permission before they reincarnate

The rules effectively exclude the Dali Lama from any role in recognising a living Buddha

Jane Macartney in Beijing

Tibet’s living Buddhas have been banned from reincarnation without permission from China’s atheist leaders. The ban is included in new rules intended to assert Beijing’s authority over Tibet’s restive and deeply Buddhist people.

“The so-called reincarnated living Buddha without government approval is illegal and invalid,” according to the order, which comes into effect on September 1.

http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2007/08/04/democrats/index.html

Democrats’ responsibility for Bush radicalism
It is staggering, and truly disgusting, that even in August, 2007—almost six years removed from the 9/11 attacks and with the Bush presidency cemented as one of the weakest and most despised in American history—that George W. Bush can “demand” that the Congress jump and re-write legislation at his will, vesting in him still greater surveillance power, by warning them, based solely on his say-so, that if they fail to comply with his demands, the next Terrorist attack will be their fault. And they jump and scamper and comply (Meteor Blades has the list of the 16 Senate Democrats voting in favor; the House will soon follow).
I just finished a discussion panel with ACLU Executive Director Anthony Romero which was originally planned to examine his new (superb) book about the work his organization has done for years in battling the endless expansion of executive power and presidential lawbreaking. But the only issue anyone in the room really wanted to discuss—including us—was the outrage unfolding on Capitol Hill. And the anger was almost universally directed where it belongs: on Congressional Democrats, who increasingly bear more and more responsibility for the assaults on our constitutional liberties and unparalleled abuses of government power—many (probably most) of which, it should always be emphasized, remain concealed rather than disclosed.
Examine virtually every Bush scandal and it increasingly bears the mark not merely of Democratic capitulation, but Democratic participation. In August of 2006, the Supreme Court finally asserted the first real limit on Bush’s radical executive power theories in Hamdan, only for Congress, months later, to completely eviscerate those minimal limits—and then go far beyond—by enacting the grotesque Military Commissions Act with the support of substantial numbers of Democrats. What began as a covert and illegal Bush interrogation and detention program became the officially sanctioned, bipartisan policy of the United States.
Grave dangers are posed to our basic constitutional safeguards by the replacement of Sandra Day O’Connor with Sam Alito, whose elevation to the Supreme Court Congressional Democrats chose to permit. Vast abuses and criminality in surveillance remain undisclosed, uninvestigated and unimpeded because Congressional Democrats have stood meekly by while the administration refuses to disclose what it has been doing in how it spies on us. And we remain in Iraq, in direct defiance of the will of the vast majority of the country, because the Democratic Beltway establishment lacks both the courage and the desire to compel an end to that war.
And now Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, with revealing symbolism, cancel their scheduled appearances this morning at Yearly Kos because George Bush ordered them to remain in Washington in order to re-write and expand FISA —a law which he has repeatedly refused to allow to be revised for years and which he has openly and proudly violated.

The Chinese government has their people laboring, suffering and dying in a grossly polluted environment which was the direct result of decisions made by that government. This is what the Dalai Lama said when asked the following question,

Question: Will you be the last Dalai Lama?

Answer: Whether the institution of the Dalai Lama remains or not depends entirely on the wishes of the Tibetan people. It is for them to decide. I made this clear as early as in 1969. Even in 1963, after four years in exile, we made a draft constitution for a future Tibet which is based on the democratic system. The constitution clearly mentions that the power of the Dalai Lama can be removed by a two-thirds majority vote of the members of the Assembly. At the present moment, the Dalai Lama’s institution is useful to the Tibetan culture and the Tibetan people. Thus, if I were to die today, I think the Tibetan people would choose to have another Dalai Lama. In the future, if the Dalai Lama’s institution is no longer relevant or useful and our present situation changes, then the Dalai Lama’s institution will cease to exist.Personally, I feel the institution of the Dalai Lama has served its purpose. More recently, since 2001 we now have a democratically elected head of our administration, the Kalon Tripa. The Kalon Tripa runs the daily affairs of our administration and is in charge of our political establishment. Half jokingly and half seriously, I state that I am now in semi-retirement.

I don't have my source with me at the moment, lunaoscura, but HHDL was asked that same question years ago, I think during the lectures at Harvard, since there is the ancient prophecy that he will be the last Dalai Lama. He responded (paraphrasing here from memory) that as long as there is pain and suffering in the world, he will be back--whether as the Dalai Lama is not of major significance.

Posted by: shylurker on August 4, 2007 10:38 PM

I found the quote, lunaoscura. It's not from the Harvard lectures, but from the book, "The Last Dalai Lama" by Michael Harris Goodman, Shambala Press, Boston: 1987. The quote is on the last page, p. 342.

""'But as to the question of my own rebirth as a Mahayana Buddhist,' he continues, with a twinkle in his eyes, 'as long as there is suffering in the world, I shall be back.
"'Whether or not I return as Dalai Lama,' he adds, 'is unimportant.'"

I'm so bummed that, was it 40?, of our Dems joined to further trash our Constitution tonight in the House. So, Cap'n Sally, I'd like to ask a question, if you would be so kind. Has there been an effort to compare political candidates' charts with the Constitution's chart in an effort to try and determine which candidate(s) is/are most likely to protect our Constitution? At this point, that's all we seem to have left. If we can take that back, then maybe we can then start to build solid programs that will rebuild our infrastructure, guarantee solid health care to all, etc. If, however, we let the Constitution go . . .

Posted by: shylurker on August 5, 2007 05:01 AM

After seven years of horrible days, this has to be the worst. I know most people are on vacation, not paying attention, and don't know what's in the constitution (let alone FISA) anyway. That's the problem. That's what the Dems who caved figured. Or, who knows what they thought. Or if they thought. Now Alberto Gonzales will not be impeached, censured or anything... he has just been given MORE power. How is this possible? The most unpopular president in history stomps his little foot and so many in congress pee their little diapers and give him what he wants. It's like watching a great nation die, right before my eyes. When the rest of the country wakes up (fortunately many are way ahead of their representatives, not that it matters), we can point to this day and say 'this is where we reached the point of no return.'

I just want to give a warning again to all sheeps:
SAFEGUARD YOUR WEALTH asap.
a quote out of an article and a seperate link
...want to emphasize again that the credit agencies were bought off by the Wall Street, and aided and abetted the Street's fraudulent marketing of "Structured Credit." In essence, the "C" in CDO's really wasn't there. The revered brands Moody's, S& P and Fitch are about to be rocked. I am again reiterating my prediction that they will be seen as the enablers of the stuctured credit fraud in the same manner that the big acounting firms were in Enron and other corporate scandels. Think about this. Paper that was issued at par merely a year ago and received AAA rating is today being bid (to the extent that there are bids) at deep junk yields (Lucy...you got some esplainin' to doooo!!) Now hear this: 75% of the mezzanine CDO;s issued over the last 18 months are rated AAA. Wall Street put earrings on these pigs by issuing insurance contracts against losses and now these derivatives are coming home to roost. Buyers were pacified by the raters having appraised these CDO's as comparable to Treasury bills in risk. This type of massive, wholesale mis-apprraisal is absolutely unprecedented. These buyers of AAA paper, lulled into a false sense of comfort by the raters, thought they were acquiring conservatively collaterized mortgage obligations. They were not. They were in essence speculating in unsecured insurance contracts from issuers of highly questionable credit quality.

There is panic behind the scenes and the FED doesn't give one sh-t about inflation. Rather they're liquifying like mad to keep this from turning into a deflationary spiral.

I am a Dem party hack who will always vote for them pretty much no matter what. Why have I chosen to be one of those people who is all party-first and be damned to the scoundrels? How can I keep this position even after this FISA embarrassment? I can answer that with the question that has been asked over and over by those who favor impeachment, the question they put to anyone who isn't down for the cause:

A large part of the problem may be that the Congressmen's aids aren't able to read & discern the important stuff from the crap, to alert their legislators.
We looked it up in the library yesterday; & H. R. is "Home Rule" or "House of Representative" H. Res. is "House Resolution". The aide that was aware of H. R. 333, also said she didn't pay any attention to the blogosphere, because they are extremists and most of it is untrue! Mind you she works for a Progressive, who is planning a run for Collin's Senate seat!
Most of the aides in DC that I've talked to don' t watch Cspan or Link TV either! Can't afford cable , don't have time!
I think I've identified the weak link in the Dem. party!!! We don't have the rigidly trained, Young Democrats like the other side does, and these kids have just come through our, 30 yr. Repug undermined school system! High school students in my county are only required to take civics 2 years out of their 4! Quite a number of these poor people, neglected and betrayed by their own jewish fellows/government live way below poverty level. Their option is to move back to Germany. There they qualify for the highest S.S. income payment and get all and I mean all medical bill payed for in full.

September 17, 1887, 12:00pm Phildelphia, PA was the birth of the Constitution of the United States. It became the law of the land on March 4, 1789, 12:00pm Phildelphia, PA. When the Twin Towers came down, Pluto and Saturn were opposing across the US Ascendant and Descendant signaling change and destruction in the way the US has always been. It also squared the Chart ruler of the 1887 Constitutional Chart, another signal of change and destruction.

When the Constitution became law Pluto was at 18 Aquarius, the exact spot that Saturn and Neptune reached their historic opposition, Neptune washing away and Saturn revealing what's below us, showing our house built on sand so to speak.

From the day the twin towers came down the US has not been the same and will never be the same again, isn't what "was" it's what will be that we need to focus upon and become involved with the best of those options. We can't go forward until all credibility in our structures is gone; government, business, religions (not spirituality that's ever changing) that faith in those things will have to be gone, then we go forward. Think of every instutition in which we place our faith; military, financial, insurance, police, food supply, medical and the list goes on. Everyone of those things are breaking down right now.

You asked what candidate would support our constitution? None from the two party system, because that is an old system. I don't know if there will be a viable third party by 2008, there might be, but there will certainly be a two party system by 2012. Concerned politicians from both parties are trying to jump start a third party now.

It is essential that we, the people, get our minds around that what we believed about our country is gone, including the Constitution.

Energy just comes, the energy to build, to destroy, to lie, to create, to steal, to give, on and on, it's just energy. What turns energy into something is our response to that energy. Do we lie, cheat, steal, destroy, or do we build, create, give? Every individual must answer that question within themselves.

I personally don't believe in the credibility of our voting system, but I will vote because I want them to know that we the people are still out here and even if they don't count the vote or if they change the vote, they will know that the people are still watching and we out-number them.

I suggest all books and videos that are addressing the power to manifest that is within us all. The Biology of Belief is one of the newest and based on the understanding of our DNA, it's written by Dr. Lupin here is his biography.
Look for and develop every amount of power within yourself for the answer to a world that will be better than what we left, it will just take time.

I don't know how everyone here feels about Arianna Huffington, but I find her exceptionally good at summing issues up in a few sentences. Here is how she sums up Bush's expanded wiretapping. And gut wrenching.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/arianna-huffington/sunday-roundup_b_59174.html

It was another trying week for those of us who prefer our Democrats with vertebrae. Terrified that a terrorist attack that the GOP could be pinned on them might happen over the Congressional recess, Senate and House Democrats approved a White House-crafted bill expanding the president's ability to eavesdrop without a court order. Thank goodness they won control of Congress in November. "Al-Qaeda is not going on vacation this month," said Mitch McConnell. "And we can't either until we know we've done our duty to the American people." For you keeping tabs on the vacation front, that's Iraqi Parliament and United States Congress, yes; al-Qaeda, no. But hey, the president still needs to get prior approval from two people. One of them is Alberto Gonzales. Feel better now?

Posted by: lunaoscura on August 5, 2007 06:36 PM

You are right Luna, the beginning and ending of a process always look exactly alike, both are at the bottom. We haven't quite hit bottom as yet, but beginnings are happening all around. We will hit bottom and those new beginnings will take up steam. All this is driven by greed, averice and FEAR. Strange as it seems the most fearful people on the face of the earth today are politicians and businessmen throughout the world. You don't hid things unless you are terrified. Aug is going to be one of the most fear inducing months for them in a long time.

There is nothing special or magical about the elite, all they have is money, eventually that goes and they are terrified. They have committed crimes against humanity the world over and they know it, somewhere inside of them they know it. Eventually the soul either supports you or destroys you, they don't know that. There is an individual soul and the collective soul.

What has "died" in the US is the US we thought existed but hasn't for over a hundred years, not since the Civil War.

Pluto destroys within a person, or country or world that which stands in the way of self-actualization of that person, country or world. The aspects the US has been experiencing has impacted the entire world, each country is struggling with Pluto right now, through floods, fires, corruption, earthquakes and wars plus having to grasp that the US has become their enemy, turns out we aren't the nice guys and it looks like we never were.

The best laid plans of mice and men are coming up for review and business is losing and instead of trying to do what has worked, they are doing what has never worked, trying to consolidate power at the top. Good luck fellows. Just one of their "outsourcing" schemes is failing. Turns out the things they didn't like about US workers, more money, environmental safety's, infrastructures, are now being demanded in other countries. They didn't get the wisdom in the advice "wherever I go there I am." So there they are.

When the Moon enters Leo for a New Moon opposing Neptune on the 11th, Washington and it's inhabitants (no matter where they are vacationing) will have a bad month ahead. On the 7th Jupiter goes direct conjunct Antares with the Moon exactly opposite on Aldebaran and both squaring GWB's Mars, something evil is afoot, soon after (a week or so) Mars will conjunct Aldebaran and oppose Jupiter and Antares. Batten down your hatches and for God's sake, stay out of fear.

Out of left field...............buy seeds! Things you can grow in a windowbox thru the winter. Parsley is an excellent source of vitamin C. ( my green beans & pear tomatos from last summer are booming along now, while this summer's newly planted crops are just getting started!
There has been a serious change in merchandising..............seeds are now removed from the stores, mid summer. ( Just since Monsanto bought up 1/3 of the major suppliers in the North east, 2 years ago!)
Fortunately I was able to restock with Johnny's Seeds from the Ace Hardware store: parsley & lettuce, ( which ANY gardener knows you plant every 2 weeks thru the summer, you don't stop at the end of July!) Johnny's a Maine organic seed Company is staying one step ahead of Monsanto re: monopoly & GM!
I may be wiretapped without ever knowing it, but when my freedom to grow lettuce in my own home is threatened, that's pretty bad! Guess they thought we would be so busy sucking up high fructose corn syrup we wouldn't notice!

Obama As The New Kennedy
And not in a good way …

by Justin Raimondo

Barack Obama often seems to be channeling John F. Kennedy, and while this thrills liberals to no end – and most Americans of a certain age, no matter what their politics – it scares me, and ought to scare you.

The Kennedy-esque cadences of Obama's rhetorical style, the soaring phrases, the high-minded spirit of noblesse oblige, the occasional scariness – pay any price, bear any burden? – send a chill of déjà-vu down the spine, and, for me, at least, it isn't a pleasant feeling.

Fascinating. I don't see Kennedy'ness in Obama. I quite frankly am not sold on any of the current crop of declared candidates. Bushco created the NAU, Canada, US and Mexico and has proceeded to dismantle our Federal Government as we know it and put in place a new structure. These guys are well on their way. The current crop of presidential candidates are either complicit or don't get it.
What an incredible time to be incarnate.

Pro-war skunk emits clouds of obfuscation

by Justin Raimondo
How, in the name of all that's holy, could a rational human being look at what's going on in Iraq and hold out any hope of "success" for America's colonial project? The American and Iraqi casualty rates are soaring, the government of Iraq is collapsing, the Turks are getting ready to invade Kurdistan in reaction to the regional government's nurturing of Kurdish terrorists on its territory, and the government we are committed to protecting with American troops and treasure is, for all intents and purposes, an extension of the Iranian mullahocracy. The American military occupation coexists with and enables widespread ethno-religious "cleansing" and the imposition of Sharia law in much of the country.

If this is success, then what would failure look like?

I don't see Kennedy in Obama either Morgana. I am surprised that people keep comparing Obama to Kennedy unless they just weren't around to see the Kennedy brothers in action. Obama doesn't even come close to the magnetism, or the ability to articulate, to generate the excitement the Kennedy's generated. Their voices were powerful and commanding and beyond articulate, I just cannot see Obama as coming close. He stumbles over words and shifts positions, I'm not saying that makes him a bad candidate, or even a potentially bad President, I'm just saying he isn't in any respect a Kennedy type candidate.

Posted by: Sally on August 6, 2007 02:53 PM

Compairing Obama to Kennedy is just a buzz/marketing scheme for the sheep. A diversionary tactic to raise supporters for a potential failure that would steal votes from other candidates, which one or two may be a real threat to the repugs. This has the stench of manipulation that is spreading across the globe.

Whoever or whatever is behind all of this crap wants to narrow the choices down to who they think should run. A backwards 'democracy' where the candidates are those that 'they' put in place for the sheep to elect or appoint. YOu can bet poppy's prints are all over this.

An ignoble anniversary: Six years ago today, Bush blew off warning about bin Laden "Determined to Strike in US." - The past few years, we’ve taken to highlighting certain anniversaries, many of them painful. The fifth anniversary of 9/11, the fourth anniversary of the Iraqi invasion, the third anniversary of the “Mission Accomplished” speech, etc. It hasn’t received much recognition in previous years, but today, Aug. 6, is a noteworthy anniversary as well -- six years ago today, the president, on vacation in Crawford, was handed an intelligence briefing document. It was titled, “Bin Ladin Determined to Strike in US.” It should have prompted the president to take action. It didn't.

Is is also the anniversary of Hiroshima!

I do think we might be moving toward development of a third and maybe a fouth party, by that I mean a viable party. I hope America begins to see the reality of this. It's not just that Bush is in office, this is the manner the two parties have been behaving for decades. With articles like this and a brighter spotlight on the "illusion" something could happen. The United States is never going to get a person or party that can or will fulfill every desire or special interest group, but maybe a candidate that can keep the greater good of all in mind.

From Lynn Hayes...

A Saturn Trine Pluto Exercise

The trine of Saturn to Pluto is exact today, although its influence has been approaching for the past couple of weeks or so. The two planets only meet once so this is not a long-term event, but Pluto is still conjunct the Galactic Center, meaning Saturn now trines the Galactic Center as well. Saturn stabilizes and restructures Pluto's urge for transformation in a way that facilitates change and the letting go that Pluto requires is easier under Saturn's firm hand.

The Magician card in the Tarot is associated with Hermes and Mercury, but it can also represent the Saturn trine Pluto process. Through hard work, discipline and focus (Saturn), the magical process of transformation (Pluto) occurs. Trines require some application on our part to really get the most out of them, otherwise we may not even notice this event. We rarely notice when things are going well! But this is an opportunity to create regeneration in our own lives in any areas where we have become stuck or need to let go. The wheels of change are lubricated now and ready for action!

Dept. of Justice is selectively prosecuting Democrats

Today the editors of the nation’s leading newspaper look at the evidence, and dare to state the completely obvious:

"One part of the Justice Department mess that requires more scrutiny is the growing evidence that the department may have singled out people for criminal prosecution to help Republicans win elections. The House Judiciary Committee has begun investigating several cases that raise serious questions. The panel should determine what role politics played in all of them.
Putting political opponents in jail is the sort of thing that happens in third-world dictatorships."

…Today, former Governor Don Siegelman is a political prisoner. It’s as simple as that. …There is another very worrisome fact. Siegelman is just one case. It’s looking increasingly obvious that there have been dozens of such corrupt prosecutions, and that a careful review needs to be made of the prosecutorial decision process in political cases.

What more could you tell us about Aldebaran & Antares vis a vis Mars and Jupiter; and who/what part of the US will be in their sights/energies; and
what possibilities might ensue in what categories: military/economic/natural disaster etc.

What are the positives/negatives....I promise to give my fears to Spirit to turn into LIGHT....Thanks

Posted by: kat on August 7, 2007 05:33 AM

Jupiter with Aldebaran ruled by planets Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto, brings gifts or recognition you have not earned and will eventually be taken away, Aldebaran squares GWBs Mars. Mars transiting Antares. ruled by Mars, Saturn and Uranus, brings rages over any limiting structures, they don't know what their problem is as they are angered by everything, it often gives way to brutality and they absolutely lack any compassion at all. Antares also squares GWBs Mars, the Moon will act as a set off, as will the transit of Mars. Antares also conjoins the USA Uranus with Aldebaran opposing it, 8/9 degrees Gemini is also known as the nuclear degree.

The movement afoot in Washington is not good in nature right now. I don't know what's going on but I do know something is absolutely not right. With Leahy and Specter pointing their fingers at Gonzales and saying "we don't trust you, and you have no credibility" and then turn around a few days later and vote to give him more secret powers? It doesn't make sense, are they playing "good cop bad cop" on capital hill or have they been so threatened they feel they have no choice. Something is afoot and it will lead to disaster. Jupiter on Aldebaran seemingly gave the WH their secret spying program, but Aldebaran will also take it away

Posted by: Sally on August 7, 2007 06:15 AM

One other fixed star at 10 degrees Virgo and conjunct GWB Mars is Zosma, ruled by Mercury and Saturn bestows selfishness, egotism, immortalit, meanness, sadness, unhappiness of mind and fear of being killed. It also gives an unreasonable shamelessness and egotistical nature. This fall Saturn will conjunct that point bringing a weakness to the lungs, drinking chamomile tea would help this weakness greatly.

China threatens 'nuclear option' of dollar sales
by Ambrose Evans-Pritchard

Last Updated: 9:54am BST 08/08/2007

The Chinese government has begun a concerted campaign of economic threats against the United States, hinting that it may liquidate its vast holding of US treasuries if Washington imposes trade sanctions to force a yuan revaluation.

Blog - Dollar to collapse?
Fistful of dollars - China's trade surplus reached $26.9bn in June

Two officials at leading Communist Party bodies have given interviews in recent days warning - for the first time - that Beijing may use its $1.33 trillion (£658bn) of foreign reserves as a political weapon to counter pressure from the US Congress.

Shifts in Chinese policy are often announced through key think tanks and academies.

Described as China's "nuclear option" in the state media, such action could trigger a dollar crash at a time when the US currency is already breaking down through historic support levels.

It would also cause a spike in US bond yields, hammering the US housing market and perhaps tipping the economy into recession. It is estimated that China holds over $900bn in a mix of US bonds.

E. coli conservatism killing six more?

The coal mine collapse in Huntington, Utah.

Some of you might have seen the bizarre press conference in which owner Bob Murray ranted and raved about the evil United Mine Workers. He was playing defense, because the Mine Workers were blaming him. One of his house specialties, apparently: "retreat mining"—in which even the last little bit of coal that form the pillars that support the mine roof is pulled away in a fit of desperate greed. Some say that caused the cave-in—unless you believe Murray, who says it was force majeur: a sudden earthquake that you might think others in the surrounding area would have noticed.

“The Lord has already decided whether they’re alive or dead,” he told the press. “But it’s up to Bob Murray and my management to get access to them as quickly as we can.”

Who is this strange megelomanic? A poster child for the E. coli conservatives, he's the guy who, in 2002, when officials of the Mine Safety Administration confronted him about his mines' poor safety conditions, shrieked at them to lay off or he would tell Labor Secretary Elaine Chao to fire them. Chao, of course, is married to Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY). According to the Lexington Herald-Leader, Murray bellowed, "Mitch McConnell calls me one of the five finest men in America, and the last I checked, he was sleeping with your boss."

BETTENDORF, Iowa - Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney on Wednesday defended his five sons' decision not to enlist in the military, saying they're showing their support for the country by "helping me get elected."

The woman who asked the question, Rachel Griffiths, 41, of Milan, Ill., identified herself as a member of Quad City Progressive Action for the Common Good, as well as the sister of an Army major who had served in Iraq.

"Of course not," Griffiths said when asked if she was satisfied with Romney's answer. "He told me the way his son shows support for our military and our nation is to buy a Winnebago and ride across Iowa and help him get elected."

Now here's an idea I like!

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/peter-smith/the-ronald-reagan-memoria_b_59655.html

The Ronald Reagan Memorial Bridge: Renaming America a Disaster at a Time

For a while there, back when the Republicans held the White House and both houses of Congress, they were naming things after Ronald Reagan everywhere. Airports. Aircraft carriers. Federal buildings. There was even talk of replacing Roosevelt with Reagan on the dime.

Now, with the national landscape cratered with reminders of the apocalypse their public policy has wrought since 1980, maybe it's time to revisit the concept and start naming American disasters after the people and policies that caused them.

Obviously, the new 35W bridge in Minneapolis should be named for The Great Communicator. Infrastructure on the cheap began on his watch. Elsewhere locally, we might consider naming the boarded up school where my kid used to go, "No Child Left Behind Unfunded Mandate Park."

Baghdad? Rumsfeld City. Iraq? Cheneyland. We could have the George W. Bush National Deficit. For whom should we name that steam pipe crater in Manhattan?

We might even consider selling the naming rights to our institutions the way we sell the naming rights to our new, publicly-funded arenas and stadiums. Halliburton could donate a share of its Iraq windfall to New Orleans and put their name on a rebuilt Ninth Ward. For less than he paid for the Wall Street Journal, Rupert Murdoch could have the, "Rupert Murdoch Memorial Federal Communications Commission." And who would protest if the Carlyle Group were to plunk down a few billion to call it the "George and Barbara Bush Memorial Supreme Court"?

Santayana said those who cannot remember the lessons of the past are condemned to repeat them. Maybe naming these disasters and debacles after their authors will help us remember.

Haven't dropped by much lately - but always enjoy it when I do! Just thought I'd point out that the two Sabian Symbols that are right on that degree of GWB's Mars are

Virgo 10: Two Heads Looking Out and Beyond the Shadows (wiretapping, eavesdropping, an earpiece for George so he knows what to say, his father calling the shots, his obvious mental illnesses)... and

Virgo 11: A Boy Moulded in His Mother's Aspirations for Him - which of course can be about his mother but about his father as well...

These two are doozies for George to have on his Mars! Perhaps with Saturn going over his Mars the truth will out about his father's influence over the White House. I think that degree of Mars says much more about George as well, stuff like Cheney having his hand up George's back and all.

Hi Lynda!
And what of he Father's aspects?
George Herbert Walker Bush is a very old and sad and lonely man, according to the New York Times. He spends a great deal of time these days calling the White House and pretending they listen to his pragmatic policy advice and crying in public about how much he loves his fuck-up children. But people come up to him on the street and tell him that the worst person in the world sprang from his loins, and then he cries some more. God forbid you bring up Neil! He’d have a heart attack!

New Moon in Leo
Sunday, August 12, 2007

Eight Verses SoundArtwork can now be downloaded for free!

It is hard for me to believe that this Moon Message marks my eighth year of posting New Moon and Full Moon Messages on astrowisdom.com. So much has changed about the Internet in the last eight years. Back when I started, most people didn't have email or ready access to the Internet. I even remember the Internet in the mid-1990's when it primarily served as a bastion of free information for education and industry. The commercialization of the Internet has had, like all things, its good points and bad points. Competition fosters creativity (positive spectrum of Leo) but once profit becomes the primary motive, free exchange of information and services are stifled (the narcissistic constricting aspect of Leo.) So this is the New Moon to uncover your own gift and then let it blossom and evolve as you give it to the world at large.

Let me remind each of you that this New Moon will make the sky particularly dark for tonight's Perseids meteor shower. So get out and wish upon each and every falling star you see!

I do not want to bore you all but...a BBC link http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thereporters/robertpeston/2007/08/us_exports_poison_1.html

US exports poison

I am a long way from a properly functioning computer screen. But thanks to the miracle of mobile telephony I have been able to read BNP Paribas's explanation for prohibiting investors from cashing in more than a billion pounds of funds linked to the US subprime market.

bnp_paribas.jpgBNP's statement is scary, to put it mildly. The giant French bank says that it cannot value the assets in these funds due to the "complete evaporation of liquidity in certain market segments of the US securitization market". ...snip

and a comment to the link
Crumbs - perhaps we should get on the Financial Noah's Ark - before the deluge starts. That's of course if you have built one!

The signs are ominous for us all in the Western World, and I fear that every Joe Public in the UK is going to pay a very heavy price for the next 30 years for all of today's short termism.

Put simply

Commodity Prices - rising as demand fuelled by Asia grows rapidly
Banking Liquidity - shrinking as lenders get the jitters. There is only so much "support" the ECB can offer to bolster the entire system
Interest Rates - rising everywhere except the US. They are looking to shrink their rates. Remember what happened in Japan in the early 90's when this happened - stagflation - it looms high on the horizon again
Consumer confidence - fragile now and this will weaken as interest rates rise, especially in "heavily indebted economies" like the UK
Sino - American shift - if the Chinese sell US T-Bonds en masse, the world will shift into major economic reverse. They hold nearly 1 trillion US$ of US T-Bonds. Artifically pegging the Yuan to the US$ delays the evil day. When China shifts enough exports within the Asian region, watch the shift. It is not as far away as we all think over here.
Demography - 10 year Census models are redundant in today's digital world. The UK Government uses the Census for fiscal planning. Our EU membership and mobility of labour makes a total mockery of this. The balance of risk and reward is wrong. UK citizens take and pay for the risk and non UK citizens appear to get the rewards. There are now real and severe geo-political risks for every developed nation as the risks of protectionism increase. What price federalism today? Hmmm!

Who pays. We all do, in more tax (direct and indirect) on everything we consume. Our pension pots will shrink, unless we invest in defensives like gold and cash now. Our houses will soon no longer provide "equity release" to sustain consumer demand. We will all feel poorer, and perhaps for the first time since WW2, we really have to learn the art of thirft.

Time to pay off the debt, cut back on the luxuries, escape equities in favour of the simpler assets like cash and rising commodities - gold, oil, water and agriculture (linked to biofuels) and get your hard hats on on top of the wellies and waterproofs. This will be a hell of a choppy ocean ride.

"Astrological Musings: Astrology that expands the mind" - 1 new article

A Neptunian New Moon

The New Moon in Leo takes place on August 12, just in time for the Perseid meteor showers! The darkness of the sky at the time of the New Moon will help make the meteors easier to see as they fly across the sky.

Remember that New Moons are times of new beginnings, when the Sun and Moon are conjunct and the conscious mind (Sun) and emotions (Moon) are in alignment. There is a great deal of power in the New Moon and this one is particularly strong since it is exactly opposite Neptune in Aquarius.

The New Moon in Leo is a time to take an active interest in expressing the Self in a creative and powerful new way. This is not a time to be shy or restrained - the Leo New Moon demands complete and full expression of the unique attributes of a healthy ego. On the spiritual path we are often taught to destroy the ego and become selfless. This is the voice of Neptune, and with the opposition of Neptune to the New Moon we find ourselves exploring a balance between the death of Self and the celebration of our own uniqueness as special beings of creation that Leo teaches.

The addition of Neptune adds a yearning for oneness, a longing to experience the divine. We do this in many ways: through meditation, church, music, artistic creativity, connection with a loved ones, or a walk through the woods. When the New Moon is opposed by Neptune, the doorways between worlds grow thin and we are able to move more freely between them. Romance and creativity are powerful influences now, and we are able to glimpse the Divine in all of our endeavors. Caution must be taken, however, since as with any strong Neptune experience though, there is potential for disillusionment and confusion.

This New Moon also marks the second conjunction of Venus to Saturn as Venus retrogrades back to meet the old guy. Many writers have taken the negative aspects of Saturn's effect on Venus (bad relationships, need for solitude, insecurity) but we can also look at the softening effect that Venus has on Saturn. Saturn is well-aspected now in a trine to Pluto so we have an opportunity to get the best of what Saturn has to offer: discipline, strategy, responsibility and commitment. Venus lends a hand of grace as we follow Saturn on the path to our goals and aspirations, and Saturn and Venus combined can help to cement our relationships (Venus) into structures (Saturn) that support us in our growth process.

It brought together alot of diverse communities of artists and musicians here in Brooklyn and raised the talent caliber up another notch. The place was really on fire. People meeting and enjoying each other's talent. Finally, my dream of the unity within Bklyn arts community coming to pass. Everyone was on Cloud 9.

May this be an omen for us all.

I don't know about anyone else here, but I have a very hard time understanding how the economy works and how what happens to it translates into my life. This article was written in plain and understandable English and actually explains what the words mean. I hope it helps others the way it's helping me. It's not good news, but now I feel I understand what's happening and maybe I can plan ahead, or at least know if I'm going to be living in my car.

[snip]
... the trouble with option and interest-only ARMs still appears to be in its early stages. Many industry observers suspect the biggest problems will emerge during the next 16 months as shoddily underwritten ARMs made near the real estate market's peak in 2005 and 2006 climb to higher interest rates.

"Those loans are begging to blow up. This is a true financial crisis," said Christopher Thornberg, a principal with Beacon Economics, a consulting firm that has followed real estate market's ups and downs.

Lenders made an estimated $581 billion in option ARM loans during 2005 and 2006 while doling out nearly $1.4 trillion in interest-only ARMs, according to LoanPerformance. A recent study estimated about $325 billion of these loans will default, leading to more than 1 million homeowners relinquishing their property to lenders. By comparison, about $212 billion in subprime loans were delinquent through May.

The initially low monthly payments on these exotic ARMs enabled more people to buy homes and enticed other borrowers to refinance their existing mortgages to free up cash for other purposes.

Now, the exotic ARMs are tormenting overextended homeowners, reckless lenders and shortsighted investors as the teaser rates rise, dramatically driving up monthly loan payments against a backdrop of declining property values.

The conditions have deteriorated so much that Angelo Mozilo, chief executive of mortgage lender Countrywide Financial Corp., recently described the current real estate slump as the worst since the Depression ended nearly 70 years ago.

Countrywide sent out another distress signal late Thursday in a regulatory filing that warned it's being forced to hold on to more loans than it wants to keep. "We believe the current environment of rapidly changing and evolving credit markets may provide increasing challenges for the financial services sector, including Countrywide," the Calabasas-based company said.

Washington Mutual Inc., another major lender of option and interest-only ARMs, echoed those concerns in a similarly bleak Securities and Exchange Commission filing that warned the subprime problems are cropping up in higher-quality mortgages, too.

Option ARMs like Martin's are especially toxic when home prices start to shrivel.

Here's why: When borrowers pay the minimum monthly amount on an option-ARM, they aren't covering the amount of interest accruing on the loan. To compensate, lenders add the amount of unpaid interest to the mortgage's outstanding debt.

Option-ARMs also allow for a higher monthly payment to reduce the loan's principal, but most borrowers only make the minimum installment. At some lenders, 80 to 90 percent of the option-ARM borrowers are paying the minimum amount.

So, a homeowner who originally borrowed $250,000 under an option-ARM could end up owing an additional $5,000 to $10,000 after making the minimum monthly payment for a year, depending on the terms.

The negative amortization isn't as troubling when home prices are rising because the borrower could still be building more equity than debt.

Why is the Iraqi 'government' buying Russian arms on the black market without US knowledge? These weapons are being given to the 'insurgents'...

Looks like Fiendco and Friends are being played..

More of a reason to get the hell out of that hellhole. And they say there is not a civil war going on...

Italy probe unearths huge Iraq arms deal

PERUGIA, Italy - In a hidden corner of Rome's busy Fiumicino Airport, police dug quietly through a traveler's checked baggage, looking for smuggled drugs. What they found instead was a catalog of weapons, a clue to something bigger.

Their discovery led anti-Mafia investigators down a monthslong trail of telephone and e-mail intercepts, into the midst of a huge black-market transaction, as Iraqi and Italian partners haggled over shipping more than 100,000 Russian-made automatic weapons into the bloodbath of Iraq.

As the secretive, $40 million deal neared completion, Italian authorities moved in, making arrests and breaking it up. But key questions remain unanswered.

For one thing, The Associated Press has learned that Iraqi government officials were involved in the deal, apparently without the knowledge of the U.S. Baghdad command — a departure from the usual pattern of U.S.-overseen arms purchases.

Why these officials resorted to "black" channels and where the weapons were headed is unclear.

The purchase would merely have been the most spectacular example of how Iraq has become a magnet for arms traffickers and a place of vanishing weapons stockpiles and uncontrolled gun markets since the 2003 U.S. invasion and the onset of civil war.

Some guns the U.S. bought for Iraq's police and army are unaccounted for, possibly fallen into the hands of insurgents or sectarian militias. Meanwhile, the planned replacement of the army's AK-47s with U.S.-made M-16s may throw more assault rifles onto the black market. And the weapons free-for-all apparently is spilling over borders: Turkey and Iran complain U.S.-supplied guns are flowing from Iraq to anti-government militants on their soil.

Hi Pat

Bush senior's Mars is Aquarius 26: The Hydrometer - he listens and listens and perceives subtle clues, I imagine - all, of course, highly attuned to his own agenda.

The Symbols for Bush senior's progressed Sun over the last two years has been those two degrees of junior's Mars... in other words, the progressed Sun of the elder Bush has been going over the Two Heads Looking Out From the Shadows and The Boy Moulded in His Mother's Aspirations for him. Now, his progressed Sun is sliding into Virgo 12: A Bride With Her Veil Snatched Away - I think the elder is very concerned that things will be revealed in some way...

The father's Moon degree is Libra 18: Two Men Placed Under Arrest - same degree as GWB's Jupiter (from memory). Impeachment would fit the bill there!

U.S. Homeowner Woes Felt Around World

MATT MOORE | August 12, 2007 04:45 PM EST |

FRANKFURT, Germany — The latest crisis in financial markets has once again served as a reminder of how vital and interconnected the health of the U.S. economy is to that of the rest of the world.

From New York to Frankfurt to Tokyo, markets were jolted in the past week by fears that Americans are failing to keep up with their mortgage payments and the ripple effects that could have on the global banking and financial system.

The fallout could further depress U.S. housing prices by making it harder to find buyers for a glut of foreclosed homes. That, coupled with a drop in the value of investments, could leave U.S. consumers feeling poorer and less likely to spend on domestic and imported goods.

"The sharp falls in global stock markets obviously affect consumer wealth, which again could dampen spending," said Howard Archer, chief British and European economist at Global Insight.

The most immediate effect for the half of all American households who own mutual funds and other individual investors worldwide is a decline in the value of their investments, which may or may not be short-lived.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Karl Rove, U.S. President George W. Bush's senior political adviser,
will voluntarily step down from his White House post
at the end of the month, senior administration officials said Monday.

Karl Rove was politically extremely close to President George W. Bush

Rove, who has held a top position in the White House since Bush took office in January 2001, is to stand down on August 31.

"I just think it's time," Rove told the Wall Street Journal. "There's always something that can keep you here, and as much as I'd like to be here, I've got to do this for the sake of my family."

Rovemort's change of address

The smart money says Rove is quitting ahead of one or more indictments, and here's hoping. There is, however, precedent for speculating that he's not really "leaving" at all.

The precedent, as is so often in this administration, is Nixonian. In the Nixon Library's newly released tape of the President's phone conversations shortly before, on, and after Election Day 1972, the longest is Nixon and Chuck Colson riffing out their second term plans—most especially for a new "information and counterattack capacity in the White House" that would be more durable, and better deniable, than the one that got them in trouble with Watergate.

The idea is for Charles Colson to leave the White House with great fanfare, as if riding off into the sunset after a job well done. He will establish a law firm that will actually be a political front working for Nixon: "I wouldn't call it 'Colson,' something like that," Nixon says; "I would just say, "Washington Associates," or something..a good, high-sounding name." It would serve as a base the usual Nixonian work of manipulating and intimidating the media; and, intriguingly, a new idea, establishing a new polling firm, scrubbed of its origins in the White House: "I mean, the point is, let's just get the polling done our way."

Colson was also to work to establish, as another White House front, a think tank, perhaps having one of Nixon's most loyal donors, DeWitt Wallace of Reader's Digest buy out the American Enterprise Institute so they could take over its administrative capacity: "They're right at the verge of becoming what we want," Colson explains.

Meanwhile Colson's "replacement," a young staffer named Ken Clawson.....
