LITTLE THINGS MEAN A LOT

No one can walk backward into the future Joseph Hergesheimer (1880-1954)

When an individual endeavors to lift himself above his fellows, he is dragged down by the mass, either by means of ridicule or of calumny. (Preface to "Don Quixote" Heinrich Hein a German poet of the 1800's)

I cannot think of one person in this administration who should not read these quotes, I can't think of too many in the media who shouldn't avail themselves of the wisdom of these men as well.

It's only Scooter Libby, Gonzales, Rove, Sampson and the top brass at Walter Reed, these are little men playing on the big stage of "Shoot em up" Dick Cheney and George "the decider" Bush but still it's the moment in the play when you feel the bad guys are really going to be stopped and the good guys will start to rise.

At one time I was in the theater (one of my many lives) because of that I have a tendency to view life's drama as a series of screen plays folding one into the other. As with all plays the audience doesn't know what really is going on backstage, they only know what's presented to them. This play seems to be cobbled together and heading into a flop so profound the drama is turning into a comedy, a tragic comedy. The one truly humorous aspect is the actors don't seem to realize that 70 percent of the audience has left and the backstage curtains are tattered and coming down, revealing how tawdry and sloppily this play was put together. The curtains around OZ are falling.

The main actors are the administration, Congress, the media, the military. There are of course some bit players such as Gonzales EX assistant Sampson, Karl Rove, Scooter, Fox News of course and their stable of comedians (black comedy) you can fill in the other bit players in this program. The important thing is they all seem to be sleeping with each other for one and for another thing they spin, and hustle and lie to each other. They aren't lying to at least 70 percent of us anymore because we don't believe them. So the play has evolved to a situation where they are just acting for themselves, most of the audience has gone home. The funny part is they don't seem to know or realize that, must be too blinded by the stage lights and their illusion of their own star status.

As a side comment, has anyone noticed how many of the players in the most recent drama of the 7 prosecutors being replaced by several look a like Rove. A friend of mine asked if they were growing Rove's in pods now. It does look as if they might be growing pods of Roves. Well that's just a circus going on in the corner of the stage and doesn't have much to do with the situation, except the psychology of why he's attracted to himself.

Someone asked about Scooter Libby. I want to be able to say he will go to prison, and he might, but I don't think for the Plame case, the energy for that isn't here right now, the astrological aspects aren't strong enough right now and won't be for several years. There is one little aspect (transiting Saturn conj. 12th house progressed Uranus) happening in the fall that could send him to jail but it's a weak aspect, not impossible, but it is weak. The one hope would be the sentencing judge. Judge Walton might be anxious not to seem controlled by the Bush White House and politicians, particularly after this mess with the prosecutors. Libby does have a move in his future, maybe it could be prison, he could also move to Dubai with Halliburton.

Racing on to Rove (ENTER stage left) and his potential dust up with Congress (ENTER stage right) Chuck Schumer held a riveting press conference today where he accused Karl Rove of "false, false, false statements." Wow, what a shock for the remaining 29/30 percent (well 20 percent are asleep so it's only 10 percent still watching the play) Where did Karl stumble leaving him unable to provide a significant contribution to the audience on stage where he can only operate from the wings?

Karl and Scooter’s present day problems began with the Plame outing, and their fate was sealed the day the investigation formally began on September 29, 2003 at 8:30 pm (announcement) Washington, DC and Saturn was at 12 degrees Cancer ruling the chart’s mid-heaven at 26 Capricorn. Whoops, Saturn transits and progressions unfold so slowly, and that Saturn was conjunct GWB’s Sun, Karl’s Moon (opposing his Venus) and square Scooter’s Neptune (where his progressed Venus was making a visit) and that Saturn transit was oppose the 2005 Inaugural Venus in the 9th house promising court proceedings related to their 2003 slip of the tongue and their lies to cover it all up. The culmination of which is this week with the Plame proceedings in Congress as the progressed 2005 Inaugural chart has the mid-heaven and Chiron in an exact square to the Inaugural North Node. Oh what tangled webs and their troubles aren’t over yet. This entire situation with the Iraq War (of which the Plame investigation is a part) is coming unraveled, along with the attending lies and it will also lead eventually to the truth of 9/11. There is indeed “a walk backward into the future” for this administration only it won’t be their envisioned future, it will be something else TBD. The thing is Valerie Plame Wilson born April 19, 1963 in Anchorage, Alaska has a 29 degree Aries Sun, Pluto is trine that Sun right now, and the force is with Valerie as is the key to the secrets of this administration and this war.

In the meantime this play can be watched and enjoyed. The “shadow” we’ve been watching the last two hundred and thirty one years on this stage is shifting, there is a new player and they are just entering the into wings of the theater. Too foggy to make out as yet but our attention will be diverted from lies and greed toward integrity and sharing and the old and rotting are being spirited to another time and place.

It will take a few more years for all this to be unearthed; however the die has been cast for the wounding to this presidency and his legacy. All they think they accomplished in their first four years has begun unraveling and will continue to unravel over the next eight to twelve years. This isn’t just for the US, it is world wide. I do expect more world wide restrictions in the short term and some serious financial issues, but the long term is extremely promising. Soon someone will figure out that fighting a war is more expensive than supporting the people.
There are 6.6 billion people on the face of the planet today, and so far the Iraq war has cost this country 5.5 hundred billion with the price tag expected to reach 1 trillion, well you do the math. Divide just today’s figures of 6.6 billion people into 5.5 billion of the Iraqi war and think how much each man woman and child in the world would receive if that was evenly distributed, even partially distributed. This “war” thing is insanity and it’s insanity for people to allow it to continue. We’ve been “punked” people, “scammed,” “had,” “taken advantage of.” Write your Congressman and the presidential candidates and quote Joe Biden “Mr. President you are driving us over a cliff, STOP.”

I have always said that Karl Rove was not a first rate political strategist, he is a first rate bully as have been nearly every Bush appointee, and the thing bullies fear the most is for someone to call their bluff; the Democrats and Henry Waxman (as well as a few others) is doing just that.

In astrology there are units of time along the circle continuum, 30 years, 60years 84 and so on; time is not linear it’s cyclical, like a Merry Go Round. Remember when you first watched a Merry Go Round? The lights were bright, the animals seemed magical and you went back and back and back. Eventually the lights just seemed garish, the music was the same, the animals kind of dull and always the same, the paint chipping, and you started looking for another and new brightly lit and exciting ride. So it is with this particular play. The TV faces are the same, saying the same things over and over. Patrick Buchanan’s face and voice is everywhere, there are the same politicians, the same pundits, the same conversations, the same threats, and the same fake “God Bless America,” it’s getting dull.

Two hundred and thirty one years ago the forefathers had a dream of a Republic, a Democracy, a different model of government. As we find out, that dream was an illusion but still it was a dream. Yes, we have been overrun with corruption and reptilian brains wallowing around in their own excrement and vomit, sadly they pulled too many of our fellow earth travelers down there with them. Still, every creation and manifestation begins with a dream.

All over this country, indeed all over the world people have followed that dream of a true democracy where all have a chance and live in freedom. People have worked for that dream, died for it, waded in blood for it, tilled the earth, stole away on boats, trains, planes just to get to this dream they thought we possessed, heck in our arrogance we thought we possessed it too. People that the privileged, or those who believed themselves to be privileged, treated like trash such as Native American Indians, African/Americans, Chinese, Japanese, Arabs, Vietnamese, women, all they deemed to be beneath them, lived, worked and died to keep this dream, this illusion alive.

Most honest historians of the American form of government will tell us, and we can see it was true, that this country was never really justice and freedom for all. It was never for the people, it was the elite class finding new land and a new way to control and enslave more people for more money, more resources, more and more. Still it was the “dream” that kept this country going.

This latest gang of thieves, while they’ve destroyed everything they’ve touched, will not destroy the dream shared by people the world over. We will manifest a true Republic and true Democracy because we’ve been working collectively on it for over two hundred years. We will rise from the vomit and excrement the elite have spread on the path, because “a dream” is where creation and manifestation begins and too much honest collective energy has gone into this one for it to fail because of some B grade actors strutting with their phony pretensions across the stage. For them this play will end with “EXIT LEFT, EXIT RIGHT, PULL THE CURTAINS, DOUSE THE LIGHTS,” and a new play will begin.

HAPPY ST. PADDY'S DAY TO YOU ALL. Wish I could do this in bright green. Some of you I know have a pretty big storm hitting you and it's cold so stay warm.

Anyone with any questions about dates for the Plame Affair let me know, I have a ton of them and do the astrological aspects tell a big story. I just love it when I saw the pattern I was ready to do a jig on the table. Just watch their "program" unravel backwards, the last thing to be revealed will be 9/11. I forgot to add to the "bit player" list the neo-cons and Iluminiti, "The Producers."

In the spirit of the day as protesters gather in the high spirit of the Irish, I want to share this book review.

"David Ray Griffin's Debunking 9/11 Debunking is a superb compendium of the strong body of evidence showing the official U.S. Government story of what happened on September 11, 2001 to be almost certainly a monstrous series of lies. Tragically, the entire course of U.S. foreign and domestic policies since that date has grown out of these almost certain falsehoods. This single book could (and should) provide the basis for the United Nations? International Court of Justice, or some specially constituted global body (independent of the U.S.) to investigate with highest priority, and publicly report its findings about, the charge that unknown elements within the U.S. Government, and possibly some individuals elsewhere closely allied to the U.S., caused or contributed to causing the events of September 11 to happen."---Bill Christison, former senior official of the CIA.

"Considering how the 9/11 tragedy has been used by the Bush administration to propel us into immoral wars again and again, I believe that David Ray Griffin's provocative questions about 9/11 deserve to be investigated and addressed."--Howard Zinn, author of A People's History of the United States

"Professor Griffin is the nemesis of the 9/11 cover-up. This new book destroys the credibility of the NIST and Popular Mechanics reports and annihilates his critics."---Paul Craig Roberts, Assistant Secretary of the US Treasury during the Reagan administration

"David Ray Griffin hits another one out of the park by taking on the left gatekeepers and the mass media for the lies and cover-up called 'the official story of 9/11/01,' which is the greatest conspiracy theory ever perpetrated on the American public. I highly recommend this book for all thinking Americans."---Meria Heller, Producer Host of the Meria Heller Show (www.meria.net).

Sally, was so taken with your metaphor of a bad play whose audience is no longer "suspending disbelief" because all the shabby stageworks are being revealed.

Am still reading "The Fated Sky: Astrology in History" and decided to look at the spring ingress chart for Washington, DC.

Mars, Neptune and Mercury are in the 5th house of plays and entertainment. Mars opposite Saturn in Leo in the 11th. Merc is in Pisces. The 6th house Uranus and North Node are inconj. Saturn. The zero Aires Sun is also in the 6th house.

I guess this means the Bushies are going to produce a lot of war related dialog and smoke and mirrors for their "We Are the Conquerers" play. Saturn in Leo could mean the king/prez, I suppose, but maybe in the 11th house it means the reality of our little emperor is apparent to the people. At any rate, Mars opposite Saturn is pretty clearly what's going on now. As you say, the reality is that war is totally foolish and wasteful. I'm pretty sure Saturn hates waste.

The Moon in Aires in the 7th is trine Pluto in the 3rd. Maybe that refers to the previously hidden becoming available to the public. Jupiter is in the 3rd also.

Just a stab at interpretation. Would love to read some other thoughts.

Posted by: Barbara on March 17, 2007 04:08 PM

Forgot to say, Caput Algol is in the 8th, 30 degrees from the Moon in the 7th, and inconj. Pluto in the 3rd.

Sending Green out to ya'lls.

I posed this question to Sally on the last thread.
Regarding the eclipse point on Fixed Star Sheat at 29 Pisces. I contemplated that the start of the Iraqi war started on this degree. Sheat is not exactly friendly, it's about a downfall. So I'm thinking this is the beginning of the end to our involvment in that part of the world entered in the beginning for criminal reasons.

The look on *'s ugly mug is one of the devil, if I believed in that, which I do not. He is completely insane and his smirk has become sardonic. His sociopathology is the 'evil' or 'the devil' or the other words (I personally stay away from) used to allegorize the unawakened, turned outwards,

Thank you Sally! The greed will be displaced by inspired thinking.

I'm doing a mini research on American business motivations to check out some taxing info I've read about.
It used to be, if an American business made money overseas, they had to pay foreign AND US taxes on it. Anyone know if this is still true? It also used to be, in other countries, except Japan, if a business made money overseas, you paid the foreign country taxes, not your country of origin taxes. I wonder if this is still true? I believe both probably still true. (Read as FED still greedy)

If I am an American business and I have to pay taxes overseas and at home, I will fold my at home corporate status and move it overseas. Bye bye American businesses and jobs.

If I am America and want to attract businesses to the US I don't require US overseas branches to pay US tax, and I lower my tax to lower than overseas country of origin taxes to get foreign businesses to move here.

If I really want to attract business here, I mount a revolution which abolishes the Federal Reserve and its debt collector the IRS, charge a flat tax to corps, again lower than overseas country of origin, and, excluding necessities, tax US citizens through their spending.

I have not forgotten overseas countries such as China, for now, require lower paid wages, nor that this is a simple model.

Now, does anyone know of a progressive political organization discussing this?

Watching this criminal enterprise, the administration, destroy and pollute everything that we have worked so hard for has been more than a little demoralizing and thinking so much about the destruction and dishonesty is literally sickening. Thank you again for ideas for meditation.

War anniversary draws protesters to D.C.

WASHINGTON - Denouncing a conflict entering its fifth year, protesters raised their voices Saturday against U.S. policy in

Iraq and marched by the thousands to thePentagon in the footsteps of an epic demonstration four decades ago against another divisive war.

A counterprotest shadowed the anti-war crowd on a day of dueling signs and sentiments such as "Illegal Combat" and "Peace Through Strength," and songs like "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "War (What's It Good For?)."

Thousands crossed the Memorial Bridge over the Potomac River from the Lincoln Memorial to rally as close to the Pentagon as they could get. Smaller protests were organized across the country and held abroad, stretching to Tuesday's four-year anniversary of the Iraq invasion.

The threats of the American neocons, who believe that Iran and its oil is theirs for the taking, are expressions of hypocrisy in the extreme. Iran has repeatedly demonstrated its desire to obtain and maintain friendly relations with the United States.

The Ides of March 2003
March 18, 2007
Op-Ed Columnist
By FRANK RICH

TOMORROW night is the fourth anniversary of President Bush’s prime-time address declaring the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In the broad sweep of history, four years is a nanosecond, but in America, where memories are congenitally short, it’s an eternity. That’s why a revisionist history of the White House’s rush to war, much of it written by its initial cheerleaders, has already taken hold. In this exonerating fictionalization of the story, nearly every politician and pundit in Washington was duped by the same “bad intelligence” before the war, and few imagined that the administration would so botch the invasion’s aftermath or that the occupation would go on so long. “If only I had known then what I know now …” has been the persistent refrain of the war supporters who subsequently disowned the fiasco. But the embarrassing reality is that much of the damning truth about the administration’s case for war and its hubristic expectations for a cakewalk were publicly available before the war, hiding in plain sight, to be seen by anyone who wanted to look.

When I hear about the popularity of Guliani for President, I think to myself - do people never learn. Despite his reputation as a law and order man with liberal leanings, for those of us who lived in NYC when he was Mayor, we remember his complete disregard for the poor, lack of compassion for the homeless, intolerance towards immigrants, contempt for the minority population and inflexibility as well as arrogance and corruption of his administration. Id like to believe things will change but remain skeptical as long as people continue to believe what they hear rather than make the effort to learn the truth.

Sometimes I feel like a unicorn and am extremely grateful to Sally and all you AWer's because I know that I am not alone.....

freethinker, for what it's worth, I think he is never going to get it. In such a corrupt party, he had the 911 image to work with and they are going to try to use that for all it's worth. What else do they have? I say nothing and worse their corruption is now clear. Further, Americans who were once conservatives are running from the Christian right.

Perhaps one of our expert astrologers could address his aspects. My thought is that they are nowhere like those George W Bush had for either of his selections, and he actually lost both of those elections, but for those who were looking, showed the aspects of a winner...and of course he took Office. So I'm sticking with the aspects since they seem to have told the tale in the end.

It's been a dark nightmare of an experience for the world, but as Sally has so often said, good comes from it all. As I take a deep breath, I hope.

"I posed this question to Sally on the last thread.Regarding the eclipse point on Fixed Star Sheat at 29 Pisces. I contemplated that the start of the Iraqi war started on this degree. Sheat is not exactly friendly, it's about a downfall."

Bhakti, on May 2, 1945 the German Army surrendered in Berlin, there was some fighting etc around the country until May 8th, but on the 2nd they surrendered and Mars was at 29 degrees Pisces, also Saturn was at 6/8 Cancer, the degree it was at when the Plame investigation started in 2005. There are so many cross overs and connections to WWII it's just amazing to me.

Anyway, Mars on May 2, 1945 was at 29 degrees and as you said the same degree as the Sun when the Iraq war started, and on Sheat. In 1945, it was the downfall of Germany, the question would be, is it the downfall of Iraq or the US, at this point we have both lost, but everyone loses in a war. I do know that some of the oil rights in Iraq have been sold to China in this last week, if not all the oil rights so that's a loss for both Iraq and the US. I do think we are at the end of this war and I do think the US has reached its downfall as a "super-power" but that's still unfolding.

The last few days have been very violent in Iraq and I believe we are coming to an end. I would not be surprised that in the next six months (before 2008) this will end. There was an eclipse in Capricorn in Jan. 1945, relating to the beginning of our involvement in WWII and falling opposite the US Mercury and six months later
the war was over. Right now, it doesn't look to me like Iraq or the US is going to get anything of value out of this war, not like the value brought to WWII.

Guiliani is not going to make it. He has some painful aspects shifting into place right now that plague him through the summer, fall and into 2008, his really weak point is his ego and it will ultimately do him in. The GOP at this point doesn't have a strong candidate or one that can maintain widespread popularity. Unfortunately for all the candidates of both parties it's so early and the American public is going to get so sick of them, today's polls really haven't any long term credibility in terms of relating to the candidates. Looking at the aspects, I question whether either party has a candidate for right now, particularly the ones on the "front pages" right now. The smart candidates on laying low, like Edwards, Biden, Richardson, Romney and Huckabee (sp?) I don't rule out Jim Webb for the Dems or someone for the GOP, it's just too early. Rudy, McCain, Hillary, Obama are simply peaking too soon and all of these candidates have difficult aspects over the next several months.

This was posted on Salon.

On June 8, 2004, a year before WMR commenced operations, this editor reported the following, long before any mainstream media reported on the Brewster Jennings side of the story:

"U.S. intelligence sources have also said that [Patrick] Fitzgerald's investigation has gone far beyond the mere leaking of Plame's name, itself a violation of the Intelligence Identities Protection Act, but has expanded to look into the exposure of Plame's colleagues who worked under the cover of a CIA firm called Brewster, Jennings & Associates. The "brass plate" CIA proprietary had offices in Boston and Washington, DC.

Active since 1994, Brewster-Jennings was instrumental in tracking the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) and had agents or correspondents in a number of countries including Iraq, North Korea, Belarus, Russia, South Africa, Iran, Israel, China, Pakistan, Congo (Kinshasa), India, Taiwan, Libya, Syria, Serbia, and Malaysia. By releasing Valerie Plame’s name, other agents' non-official covers were blown and the lives of U.S. operatives within foreign governments and businesses may have been placed in danger.

Therefore, Fitzgerald's investigation has reportedly been expanded to include the issue of whether members of the staffs of President Bush and Vice President Cheney, Cheney and Bush themselves, the National Security Council, and the Departments of Defense and State, may have violated more serious espionage laws.

In July 2003, the covert operations of Plame and her Brewster-Jennings colleagues were rolled up as a result of the White House leak to columnist Robert Novak and other journalists.

Sensitive CIA operations that were compromised by the leak included companies, government officials, and individuals associated with the nuclear smuggling network of Pakistan's chief nuclear scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan. In addition, the identities of U.S. national and foreign agents working within the headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, North Korea's nuclear laboratory in Yongbyon, Pakistan's Kahuta uranium enrichment plant, banks and export companies in Dubai, Islamabad, Moscow, Cape Town, Tel Aviv, Liechtenstein, Cyprus, and Kiev, and Kuala Lumpur, and government agencies in Libya, Pakistan, Malaysia, and Iran were severely compromised. The CIA has reportedly given Fitzgerald highly classified details on the damage done to the CIA's WMD tracking network.

I am amazed by how much the Iraqi people are ignored in this by almost everyone. Only the US military and international businesses seem to be of interest. Oh and now maybe China.

Pet Owners Worry About Food Recall
Major Recall of Pet Food Has Animal Owners Frantic; Company Says About 10 Pets Are Dead
By MATTHEW VERRINDER
The Associated Press
UNION, N.J. - Silviene Grzybowski became worried when her local pet store pulled the food she normally feeds her cat and posted an announcement saying it, and many other popular pet foods, had been recalled. Her cat, Smokey, hadn't been eating for days.

"The vet told us to buy her her favorite food, but I'm going to call the vet right now," Grzybowski said.

Menu Foods, the Ontario, Canada-based company that produced the pet food, said Saturday it was recalling dog food sold throughout North America under 48 brands and cat food sold under 40 brands including Iams, Nutro and Eukanuba. The food was distributed by major retailers such as Wal-Mart, Kroger and Safeway.

An unknown number of cats and dogs had suffered kidney failure and about 10 died after eating the affected pet food, the company said.

Two other companies Nestle Purina PetCare Co. and Hill's Pet Nutrition Inc. said Saturday that as a precaution they were voluntarily recalling some products made by Menu Foods.

I would be interested in the other astrological info you mentioned about the "Plame affair". I live near DC, and have been watching this unfold for 4 years now with great interest. I wonder if this might finally be the thing that unravels the adminstration if the US attorney genral firings doesn'. I find my fellow Aries, Valerie Plame to be very interesting. I also noted that she and her husband filed their civil suit fduring a Mercury retrograde. I would appreciate any info/asto insights etc. As always, enjoying your work!

Sally, you said, " I do know that some of the oil rights in Iraq have been sold to China in this last week, if not all the oil rights so that's a loss for both Iraq and the US." All the papers and radio accounts (including NPR) have stated otherwise. It has been announced that the major oil companies (american/international entities) have a contract before what passes as the legislative branch in Iraq. The contract permits the oil companies to take 80% of all oil, now in the fields or found in the future, leaving Iraq with 20%. The issue has been raised that this will be done without the knowledge of the general iraqi population because there are no radio, newspapers, etc. to inform them. All news outlets that i have read or listened to relating to this say that signing contract is pro forma and expected any day. I have heard nothing to indicate that China has slipped out the back door with these valuable assets.

Why aren't the Bush daughters in Iraq?
The president's family has set an appallingly bad example for wartime sacrifice.
By Kitty Kelley
KITTY KELLEY, who wrote "The Family: The Real Story of the Bush Dynasty," is working on a biography of Oprah Winfrey.

March 19, 2007

WHEN I WAS a little girl in a convent school, the nuns impressed on me the power of setting a good example. These beloved teachers are no longer around to instruct the president and his family, so I recommend that the Bushes learn from Mark Twain, who said: "Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest."

My suggestion comes after the White House announcement earlier this month that Jenna Bush, one of the president's twin daughters, is writing a book on her all-expenses-paid trip to Panama, where she worked for a few weeks as an intern for UNICEF. Jenna Bush is quoted as saying she will donate her earnings from her book to UNICEF, a commendable gesture, considering her father's net worth of $20 million. But while the 25-year-old makes the rounds of TV talk shows this fall in a White House limousine, dozens of her contemporaries will be arriving home from Iraq in wooden boxes. In Britain, Prince Harry is insisting on going off to Iraq — even as his country is reducing its troop commitment.

The Law and Politics of Executive Privilege

Posted by: Pat C on March 19, 2007 11:06 PM

Starking: our local NPR had an interview with a couple of the US oil companies (who are multi-nationals now) and asked them who they represented and they said China. NPR made the point that China was coming in the back door as Dubai has slipped in the back door on our ports. No one else picked this up as far as I can tell, except a couple of hours on it on our local progressive radio. I don't even know how many people realize that Dubai is providing port security, I think it's widely believed that the US said NO and that the no stuck.

Swamp: On April 30, 1945 Hitler supposedly killed himself, on May 2, 1945 Germany's troops started the process of surrendering in Berlin, that process took 6 days to cover all of Germany. It's well known that there were high level people in this country that supported the Nazi's even in the government, as well as bankers (including GWB's grandfather) financially supporting the Nazi push for world dominance (much like we are doing today) and we brought several of their scientists, doctors, high ranking officers into the US government. Because of that influence there is a thread of fascism (another governmental model) that runs through the US government.

The above is a brief background as to the astrological cycle I am talking about today and how the Plame event set in motion the beginning of the end (hopefully) of a fascist model for the US. When Joe Wilson wrote his op ed stating the yellow cake story was false on July 6, 2003 and set into motion all the events that followed, it was a 2nd Saturn return to the end of WWII and the death of Hitler.

The first Saturn return following the end of WWII, happened in 1974, and Watergate was reaching a boiling over point ending with the resignation of Richard Nixon (the 1st major run by the GOP toward the German model of fascism in the 40's) Nixon failed to push through the agenda. The panic over Wilson and Plame and the reason they worked so hard to discredit them is being able to see their agenda of empire building in the Middle East on the edge of being destroyed (remember this was 18 months before the 2004 elections) and the ensuing legal battles threatened to go the way of Watergate. The entire Plame affair and all the information collected holds the key to this administration's failed attempt and downfall, just as Watergate was the key to the Nixon downfall, and internal sabotage was the key to Hitler's downfall.

Had the media picked up the Wilson/Plame issue GWB would be gone by now just as Nixon was gone on that first Saturn return, but the media didn't push it that hard, and that's why we haven't seen the Wilson/Plame event go away. The day Nixon resigned (8/8/74) Saturn was at 13 degrees, the exact degree of the announcement of the Plame investigation by Fitzgerald.

The one thing that saved GWB or this administration is the placement of Pluto. In 1974 Pluto was in Libra squaring Saturn, meaning the end of the story for Nixon. The end of the story for this latest push into fascism for this country could easily come when Pluto reaches Capricorn and Uranus squares from Aries.

Read about fascism and you will see that it is another form of government, like socialism, communism, democracy, parlimentary we will have to determine as a people what we want, but read about them all in order to be informed as to our desired direction. None of them are bad, they become bad when administered by bad people as in the case of fascism, that's absolutely the "big daddy savior in the sky" form of government and big brother will be watching. Not everyone thinks that's a bad thing, gets rid of the handicapped, homeless, gangs (except for government controlled gangs like Blackwater) people who disagree, or make us deal with diversity and inclusion - all gone under fascism and the people and streets are white with two car garages and picket fences. The government decides who is and who is not desirable to live in their world. There aren't any choices under fascism, the government makes them and for some people that is comforting, particularly if you are in a country where the people allowed to work and eat and live look and act like you.

Anyway Swamp, watch Saturn and the hits to Saturn over the last 60 years, even further back. Also the May 2, 1945 Saturn has progressed to 13 degrees Cancer and will be on the WTC Mercury in one year. We will either finally have the end of fascism from WWII in the United States or it will have taken such a choke hold there will need to be a revolution (and I think there will be)But the Wilson/Plame scandal holds the seeds of the destruction of this administration

I have had a gut feeling that this quiet woman might just be the undoing of the "old frat boy network" that passes for a president and his administration. Given the fallout and real, social and financial costs of this disaster the political blame game will soon start. So it is important to make sure that the self-serving spin game that accompanied the game of those who happily ignored since last summer the looming housing, mortgage and economic mess will not be repeated again. Powerful political and financial interests will spin their self-serving ideological spin on who is to blame for this mess. Specifically be ready for a cabal of supply side voodoo ideologues - from the Wall Street Journal editorial page (and its invited op-ed writers) to hacks (calling them economists would be an insult to my profession) such as Arthur Laffer, Steve Hanke and other assorted voodoo religion priests - to start spinning a tale blaming government regulation and interference for this disaster that has instead its core in the lack of sensible government regulation, not the existence of such regulation. In the meanwhile powerful financial interests that repeat the mantra – or better the proof-less dogma - of unregulated free markets and do not like any – even sensible – supervision and regulation of the financial system will happily blame government action – rather than their own reckless greed and stupidity - for this disaster while happily demanding and receiving billions in bailout funds from the same government that they so happily disdain. This will be the most appalling form of corporate welfare: privatize the profits in good times and socialize the losses in bad times.

The article you posted Pat C just makes me sick. The Savings and Loan disaster was horrible and this looks so much worse. Neil Bush was in Denver at that time and was one of the S&L "winners" and his father got him out of town before he could be arrested. People, old people lost everything, it was terrible. And the bail out money lined the pockets of a bunch of people and not the people that should have been helped. These people have no value or shame, just money and power. Like I said we are continually scammed.

Posted by: Sally on March 20, 2007 07:01 AM

I remember the savings and loan crimes as well Sally. Unforgettable. So many of the current power people were actually openly involved in it and they not only walk free, but have increased their standing. I'm hoping with all my heart that as the dots connect, and we are much more informed this time, the results will be different, and more appropriate for all of those that are scamming humanity. This is my prayer.

Unmuddying The Waters

Just the other day, my seven-year-old son explained that it was important to protect small creeks from pollution because the bad stuff can travel downstream. That observation might seem like common sense, but there’s a debate going on in Washington now that would make my child scratch his head. Polluting industries are trying to convince the Bush administration and Congress that the Clean Water Act should not keep certain water bodies clean.

At the same time, leaders in Congress are reintroducing a bill that would define protected “waters of the United States” based on the decades-old definition in the Corps’ and EPA’s regulations. The Clean Water Authority Restoration was introduced in prior Congresses, and enjoyed bipartisan support. This Congress it stands a better chance of passing, and just in time.

The Clean Water Act has long kept all of the “waters of the United States” safe from unregulated direct discharges, oil spills, and unrestricted destruction and filling. States must also develop cleanup plans for any “waters of the United States” that are impaired by pollution. In expanding the law in 1972 to cover the “waters of the United States,” Congress made clear that it intended that the law “be given the broadest possible constitutional interpretation.”

Congress understood a basic truth—water moves in cycles between different water bodies, and because they each serve important roles, protecting the whole aquatic system makes sense. We know, for example, that small and seasonal creeks, brooks, and streams make up over half the river miles in the nation outside of Alaska and contribute to the drinking water of roughly 111 million Americans. Wetlands purify water, reduce the risk of flooding, and provide important wildlife habitat.

Cap'n Sally said we should do the math, and so I did.

OK, so I did a little research.

According to this site
http://nationalpriorities.org/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=182
the Iraq War is currently (Spring Equinox, 2007) costing us about $409,737,599,999.

And according to this site:
http://www.census.gov/ipc/www/world.html
there are about 6,584,000,000 people in the world.

If you take the Iraq War expenditure amount and divide it by the number of people in the world, you end up with about $62 per person. Whatever the exact amount, can you imagine the immense benefit that would result if we spent an average of $62 per world inhabitant on things such as food, shelter, medical care, education, and blah blah blah? And what if we spent the entire amount just on US citizens? The mind reelsl

Do pass this along if you are so inclined.

White House Counteroffer

Fred Fielding, he's the White House counsel, he was just here in the House of Representatives meeting with the House Judiciary Committee. He made the following offer to the Congress, both House and Senate...he said Rove and Harriet Mier would be offered to the Committees for their testimony in the Alberto Gonzales and federal prosecutors scandal. However, he said it would be unsworn testimony, not under oath, behind closed doors and no trancript would be permitted.

Bush's Shadow Army

This article is adapted from Jeremy Scahill's new book, Blackwater: The Rise of the World's Most Powerful Mercenary Army (Nation Books).

On September 10, 2001, before most Americans had heard of Al Qaeda or imagined the possibility of a "war on terror," Donald Rumsfeld stepped to the podium at the Pentagon to deliver one of his first major addresses as Defense Secretary under President George W. Bush. Standing before the former corporate executives he had tapped as his top deputies overseeing the high-stakes business of military contracting -- many of them from firms like Enron, General Dynamics and Aerospace Corporation -- Rumsfeld issued a declaration of war.

"The topic today is an adversary that poses a threat, a serious threat, to the security of the United States of America," Rumsfeld thundered. "It disrupts the defense of the United States and places the lives of men and women in uniform at risk." He told his new staff, "You may think I'm describing one of the last decrepit dictators of the world.... [But] the adversary's closer to home," he said. "It's the Pentagon bureaucracy." Rumsfeld called for a wholesale shift in the running of the Pentagon, supplanting the old DoD bureaucracy with a new model, one based on the private sector. Announcing this major overhaul, Rumsfeld told his audience, "I have no desire to attack the Pentagon; I want to liberate it. We need to save it from itself."

The next morning, the Pentagon would be attacked, literally, as a Boeing 757 -- American Airlines Flight 77 -- smashed into its western wall. Rumsfeld would famously assist rescue workers in pulling bodies from the rubble. But it didn't take long for Rumsfeld to seize the almost unthinkable opportunity presented by 9/11 to put his personal war -- laid out just a day before -- on the fast track. The new Pentagon policy would emphasize covert actions, sophisticated weapons systems and greater reliance on private contractors. It became known as the Rumsfeld Doctrine. "We must promote a more entrepreneurial approach: one that encourages people to be proactive, not reactive, and to behave less like bureaucrats and more like venture capitalists," Rumsfeld wrote in the summer of 2002 in an article for Foreign Affairs titled "Transforming the Military."

Although Rumsfeld was later thrown overboard by the Administration in an attempt to placate critics of the Iraq War, his military revolution was here to stay. Bidding farewell to Rumsfeld in November 2006, Bush credited him with overseeing the "most sweeping transformation of America's global force posture since the end of World War II." Indeed, Rumsfeld's trademark "small footprint" approach ushered in one of the most significant developments in modern warfare -- the widespread use of private contractors in every aspect of war, including in combat.

The often overlooked subplot of the wars of the post-9/11 period is their unprecedented scale of outsourcing and privatization. From the moment the US troop buildup began in advance of the invasion of Iraq, the Pentagon made private contractors an integral part of the operations. Even as the government gave the public appearance of attempting diplomacy, Halliburton was prepping for a massive operation. When US tanks rolled into Baghdad in March 2003, they brought with them the largest army of private contractors ever deployed in modern war. By the end of Rumsfeld's tenure in late 2006, there were an estimated 100,000 private contractors on the ground in Iraq -- an almost one-to-one ratio with active-duty American soldiers.

Posted by: Pat C on March 21, 2007 01:33 AM

Now this is fascinating. Bush let Rove and all types of aides trot up to Patrick Fitzgerald's grand jury and testify to their hearts content. They let a valued aide "Libby," stand trial with all kinds of behind the scenes secrets coming out and now they are seemingly trying to cover up something that according to the Constitution they could easily dispose of the firing of GOP prosecutors. It doesn't make sense to me, but so little does when it comes to this administration.
The other odd thing is the rapid compliance with the paper dump on Congress, they've never done that before.

There is something going on behind the scenes that we don't know about but I think it relates to the up-coming NSA Hearing and the WH is afraid of establishing a precedent, they are all up to their necks in that scandal.

The Democrats should not back down on this but their enemy is not the WH, it's the DLC. I don't think Leahy is a part of the DLC and that's a good thing. This is just one and the first serious confrontation the Dems will have with the WH. Will they win? Depends on what one calls winning, if they lose the battle, they can still win the war by framing the WH as an administration that has corruption and lies to hide. The next two days are critical and on Thursday (when they say there will be subpoenas) isn't the best day for either Rove or Miers, not a good day at all. I don't know if the negative energy around them relates to Congress, but it's a good bet.

March 20, 2007 -- Democratic presidential candidate Mike Gravel, the former Democratic Senator from Alaska who spearheaded the de-funding of the Vietnam War and the draft and released the Pentagon Papers into the Congressional Record, has protested his exclusion from the New Hampshire presidential debate.

CNN, the Manchester Union Leader, and Hearst-owned WMUR-TV formally decided to exclude Democratic Presidential Candidate Senator Mike Gravel from the debates they will be sponsoring in New Hampshire. In response to the decision, Gravel said, "By denying me the same opportunity afforded to other presidential candidates to discuss in public debate the major issues that confront our nation, the sponsoring media outlets––CNN, The Manchester Union Leader and the Hearst-owned WMUR-TV––are exercising censorship, unbecoming in a free society. They are dictating whose political voice they will permit New Hampshire and American citizens to hear.”........................

Edwards' 'Aggressive' Energy Plan

Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards today is putting forth what he is calling an “aggressive but achievable” energy plan, elements of which mirror the kind of bold energy initiative that the Apollo Alliance has been urging presidential candidates to adopt.

Edwards introduced the broad outlines of his plan on CNN this morning and was scheduled to unveil the details in an afternoon address at the Biomass Energy Conversion Center in Nevada, Iowa. His proposal combines clean energy production and conservation, with a goal of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 80 percent by 2050. Specifically, Edwards proposes:

Capping greenhouse gas pollution starting in 2010 with a cap-and-trade system.

Marshalling global cooperation in signing a new climate treaty that commits other countries—including developing nations—to reducing their pollution. In conju7nction with this treaty, Edwards would offer to share new clean energy technology with developing countries and, if necessary, use trade agreements to require binding greenhouse reductions.

Creating a New Energy Economy Fund that would support research and development initiatives, paid for by auctioning off $10 billion in greenhouse pollution permits and repealing subsidies for big oil companies.

Offset the demand for more electricity through efficiency savings during the next decade, instead of seeking to build more power plants.

Edwards said that by creating markets for renewable energy, energy efficiency and advanced low- and no-emission vehicles, his plan could create 1 million new jobs. “If we do this the right way we can not only address global warming and climate change, but we can transform the American economy,” he said on CNN.

Venus and Pluto was in a trine to Saturn on Dec. 7, 2006 and Pluto is going back and forth over those degrees, as is Saturn. This situation is not going to go away for a while, so Rove and Miers might as well bite the bullet and testify, under oath.

Exactly, Miss Sally... which is a phenomena that always accompanies the bully, the tyrant, the Supreme Race, yadda yadda yadda... because maturity is always developed in relationship with another imo... giving & receiving. Supremacists demand not having any of that! Oh no... they say, "I-AM-THE-ONLY" & "My-Way-Only-Exists"!! With them, most of the time, there's not even a "highway" choice. Therefore, they're detested from sea to shining sea... altho they certainly have their snools.

So according to the paper that all rightards love to hate, the coming showdown between Bush and Congress is not about the firing of US attorneys for political reasons - why, it's about completely benign 'internal White House deliberations.' La de da, just the White House deliberating internally, nothing out of the ordinary here, except that pesky Congress demanding more information.

Meanwhile, Gore coming back to Capitol Hill is likened to 'recovering alcoholic returning to a neighborhood bar.' The implications of that headline are fraught with meaning - a recovering alcoholic going into a bar. He could have a drink. He could fall off the wagon. It's a disaster waiting to happen, a tragedy in the making.

God, I hate the f*cking media some days.

It seems only I am interested in this subject, so I guess I'm posting this for myself.

Over at StarIQ they've put up a natal chart for Islam. As you know, I've lately been very disturbed by the treatment of women under much of Islam, particularly that sharia stuff which is very oppressive.

In the chart they present, Venus at 2 Leo (11th hse) is square Pluto at 1 Aries (8th hse). Not only that, but the other "feminine" planet, Moon is at 21 Sag (4th house--is that appropriate or not for dear ol' Mom?), caught in a nasty t-sq with Neptune at 26 Virg (1st hse) opp Mars at 23 Pisces (7th hse).

AND, the moon is opposite the Sun (19 Gem, with Sun right on the midheaven, lording it over all).

No wonder women get such short shrift under Islamic fundamentalism.

I'm not an astrologer,so I can't go much further with this, but I just don't see any kind of mitigating influence to help out our sisters under Islam. I know that a handful of imans, scholars and other caring persons are currently calling for Islam to draw upon its higher octaves, which includes respect for women. Maybe there's some kind of progression going on or something that indicates this, but given the basic chart I despair.

Thanks for letting me run on about this. It really disturbs me

...We can certainly understand why bush wants blue-collar voters. But why would a near majority of blue-collar voters still want bush? Millionaires, billionaires for bush, well, sure; he's their man. But why pipe fitters & cafeteria workers? Some are drawn to his pro-marriage, pro-church, pro-gun stands, but could those issues override a voter's economic self-interest? ... http://www.alternet.org/story/16885/

Shy, the square from Moon at 21 Sag to Mars at 23 Pisces is most unfortunate for women no matter where or in whose chart it falls. Moon square Mars indicates a dislike and disrespect for women and in a country or religion that would include women feeling that way about women. Women simply are not liked in that religion and it's a violence toward them. The women themselves will have to pick themselves out of there, and it isn't impossible but difficult.

Joanna and Shadow,I loved your comments on Inhofe, he is a nasty piece of work. His Saturn squares his Sun and Venus and transiting Saturn is opposing his natal Saturn and squaring his Sun/Venus. He made a fool of himself today in the eyes of his colleagues with a huge drop in respect. Don't know if that will translate to losing at election time but we can hope.

Oh SHEAT!!

One thing that consistently draws my attention when I read an Aries ingress chart is the fixed star Sheat.

An Aries ingress chart is the chart for entrance of the Sun into the sign Aries, the Vernal Equinox, such as the one on March 20, 2007, EDT. The Aries ingress is considered by most astrologers as the start of the astrological year, and thus very important for the next twelve months.

Fixed stars are not used by many modern western astrologers. Prior to the discovery of the three outer planets (Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto), astrologers depended on the fixed stars for prediction. Just like the planets, fixed stars are benefic or malicious. Fixed stars move very slowly, many move about one degree every 100 hundred years.

The fixed star Sheat, a magnitude 3.27, giant white star, 98 light years away, is located in the constellation Aquarius, at the right shinbone of the water bearer. It is also known as Skat, or Scheat. It is of the nature of Saturn and Jupiter

"I think for us to get American military personnel involved in a civil war inside Iraq would literally be a quagmire." Dick Cheney 1991

"... Now any citizen can download the DIY Impeachment Memorial and submit it, making it possible for Americans to do what our representatives have been unwilling to do. The idea is for so many people to submit the Memorial that it cannot be ignored.

Feel free to download it, print out TWO copies, fill in your relevant information in the blanks (name, State, notary is optional), and send in a letter today. We're sending this wave in to Republican House Rep. Ron Paul who has spoken in favor of impeachment. There's also extra credit for sending a DIY Impeachment to your own representative.

Hold on to the other copy of the letter until March 20th, when we're having everyone send them in (Next wave in June will target a supportive Democrat).

That's right — to make a big impact, we're having everyone send it in on the same date (Over 500,000 downloads so far representing over 1.5 million mailings). We hope to flood the congress with sacks of mail and cause a newsworthy event to further pressure them to act on the memorials. Although, it's important to keep in mind that in the 1830 precedent, impeachment resulted as a result of a single memorial. Yours might be the one.

Israeli Nuclear Arms May Face U.N. Focus

BY BENNY AVNI - Staff Reporter of the Sun
March 22, 2007

URL: http://www.nysun.com/article/50979

UNITED NATIONS — As the Security Council struggled to maintain unity on dealing with Iran yesterday, some of the 15 members tried to change the subject by proposing to inject Israel into the Iran issue.

Iran, meanwhile, ratcheted up its rhetoric yesterday, indicating that it may withdraw from the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, which obligates it to remain free of nuclear weapons.

"Until today, what we have done has been in accordance with international regulations," said Tehran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei. "But if they take illegal actions, we too can take illegal actions and will do so."

While Iran considers the council's demand that it suspend all its uranium enrichment activities "illegal," and while its top mullahs scoff at council resolutions, President Ahmadinejad has asked to address the council once it is ready for a vote on a new resolution. In his council address, Mr. Ahmadinejad is expected to raise Israel's reported nuclear arsenal.

Currently, the Security Council is negotiating a response to Iran's defiance of a previous demand to suspend its uranium enrichment activities. But negotiations slowed down yesterday, and Qatari and South African diplomats said they did not expect a vote before next week.

Cameron stands encircled by zealous Anglo-neocons

An influential coterie of Tory MPs is bent on a foreign policy driven not by Britain's interests, but those of the US and Israel

Geoffrey Wheatcroft
Thursday March 22, 2007
The Guardian

Last September, David Cameron queried Tony Blair's unwavering (and unrewarded) loyalty to the Bush administration. The speech made Cameron unpopular in Washington, but that should have done him no harm with the British electorate, given what most of them think of George Bush. Yet however welcome Cameron's apparent turn in foreign policy might be with the public, he has a problem with his own parliamentary party. For years past the Tories have been infiltrated by Anglo-neoconservatives, a species easily defined. Several of the younger MPs are fanatical adherents of the creed with its three prongs: ardent support for the Iraq war, for the US and for Israel.

March Badness

Students who are able to put together a patchwork of student and parent loans, campus jobs, and credit card debt to fund their education take home an enormous debt load with their college diploma. Nearly two-thirds of all four-year college graduates now have student loans, and the National Center for Education Statistics reports that the average graduate owes $23,600.

While a college diploma opens doors to a world of opportunities, students graduating mired in debt too often must change their career and family plans in order to pay back mounting loans. Studies show that startling numbers of graduates must abandon public service careers like teaching and social work for high paying jobs, and end up delaying marriage, purchasing a home and having children.

The new Congress has begun to reverse the damage. Within the first 100 hours of the legislative session, the House passed phased-in interest rate cuts on subsidized student loans. According to a report by the Public Interest Research Group (PIRG) Higher Education Project, this move will save the average student starting at UCLA in 2007 $2,500 in loan interest payments, and a student starting in 2011 will save almost double that. It’s a good first step, but there’s so much more to be done to make college affordable.

Currently Congress is working on reauthorization of the Higher Education Act, which provides financial assistance to students in higher education. Congress should seize the opportunity to make student loans more affordable by lowering interest rates, limiting the percentage of income students spend repaying loans, encouraging colleges to use the cost-saving direct loan program, expanding loan forgiveness programs for critical public service careers and reinstating the refinancing of existing loans. Congress should also increase need-based grant aid by raising the maximum Pell Grant award, currently worth less than it was worth 30 years ago, to $5,100.

WV, all--
Do you get the feeling the new Congress was blackmailed/compromisd from the start? Esp. with them taking impeachment off the table and kowtowing to Der Fuehrer and fully funding his Iraqmire, while removing any provisions that might create oversight? And also not investigating voter fraud?

I've smelled a rat or something equally stinky since the election was over, starting when they took impeachment off the table. You have to wonder what happened "all of a sudden". I know both "sides" are merely illusions and are bought and paid for by the same money, but still.....

Anyway, namaste and love y'all
GT

Posted by: Garry Todd on March 22, 2007 06:37 PM

Gary, I'm beginning to wonder if they are under some kind of coercion, or alternatively, if they have a larger political plan that may include giving the admin enough rope to hang themselves. Of course, given the spate of constitution-undoing the rethugs have been in during their time in power, it may well be that many of the provisions passed (both versions of the so-called "patriot" act come immediately to mind) it may be that the legal protections and balances we have been taking for granted are not truly there any longer thanks to Rove, Ashcroft, and Gonzo, under the direction of Darth C.

And they might well just be saying that impeachment is off the table because they are having to meticulously gather all the info (with a big vote of thanks to Conyers in particular on that score) and until they have a smoking gun in hand, are holding back.

I agree that both "sides" are bought and paid for, which is why I'm thinking registering as an independent is the way to go. If the majority of the electorate was registered this way, would that not be a fairly emphatic push toward some sort of representative government. If no one comes to their "parties", who are they going to shill? And if everyone is independent, who are the corporate hogs going to bribe - that is, who would stay bribed if there wasn't party pressure to toe the line?

Just some ideas... as a non-astrologer who loves this board for the insights, I can't give you any backup chart/aspect details, but only the opinions of someone who's been watching politics for over 50 years.

Voice of the White House March 18, 2007

TBR News.org – March 18, 2007

“Early last week, I was having dinner with an old friend of my wife’s who works for the Justice Department as an analyst. During the course of the meal, he mentioned a lengthy report he has on his desk about Vice President Cheney. It was compiled by a Department individual, known to him and considered to be very accurate.

It is a lengthy report on Cheney’s psychological makeup, his physical problems and a clear rationale for his very possible death, probably in the near future.

It is not a state secret that Cheney is in very bad health. He had suffered, to date, four major and three minor heart attacks, he has had quadruple bypass surgery, a pacemaker installed and two angioplasty surgical procedures (to clear badly plugged arteries.) The last available, but certainly not public, medical prognosis is that it would take very little for Cheney to have a final, and fatal, heart attack.

The recent discovery that Cheney suffered a blood clot in his leg and has undergone both a medical intervention and is now receiving anticoagulant medicines in addition to a significant regimen of other medications aimed at controlling his very high blood pressure and equally high cholesterol levels. He has been told by his doctors to lose at least 30 pounds, to be very careful of his diet and to engage in physical exercise, designed to improve circulation, on a daily basis. His age, lack of exercise and weight problems coupled with his psychological makeup are inevitably going to kill him, sooner rather than later.

Cheney’s psychological makeup is a contributory factor to his ongoing and escalating circulation problems.

Richard B. Cheney, at AIPAC Conference
The White House.org – via Ziopedia.org March 20, 2007

Thank you very much. If Karl Rove finds out about this, he won't let me out again. (Laughter.)

Thank you very much for that warm welcome and, David, let me thank you for the introduction. And let me thank the AIPAC board of directors and the members from all across America for the opportunity to be here today.

I have many friends in the hall and I especially want to acknowledge Sallai Meridor, Israel's ambassador to the U.S. (Applause.) And, of course, Tzipi Livni, Israel's foreign minister. (Applause.)

I also want to recognize the many students who have come from across the country, even some I'm told from Wyoming. Welcome to Washington. It's great to see you all here. (Applause.)

We're here today as citizens from different parts of the country, diverse backgrounds, many professions and various political affiliations. Yet we find unity and strength in the values of liberty and equality and our belief in democracy and the rule of law and in our devotion to the security of America's friend, the state of Israel. (Applause.)

As members of AIPAC, you play a vital role in making the strategic and moral case for America's friendship with Israel. I commend AIPAC for the fine work you do, not just at this annual event but every day of the year. It's good to be in your company, and I bring warm regards from the President of the United States, George W. Bush. (Applause.)

As most of you know, the President is traveling in Latin America this week, solidifying our friendships in that region and promoting an agenda of democracy, economic progress and security. He asked me to convey to this gathering his great appreciation for your efforts, his strong support for Israel, and his firm commitment to peace in the Holy Land, built on a foundation of security, not surrender. (Applause.)

Republican Political Mafia and Federal Law

There is nothing as corrupt as using the governmental powers of law enforcement, to selectively prosecute your political enemies and to cover-up criminal behavior by your political organization and allies, while in a position of political power. This situation is the essence of the current scandal concerning the firing of US Attorneys by the Bush White House.

The Watergate scandal should have taught the Republican Party that this kind of abuse is outside the bounds of acceptable political behavior in American society. Republican activists failed to learn the lessons of Watergate and are now reliving history on issue after issue. Republican Presidential pardon powers were used to thwart the rule of law and let the Republican political criminal Richard Nixon avoid the jail time he deserved.

If George W. Bush launches a pre-emptive war on Iran, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will bear full moral responsibility for that war.

For it was Pelosi who quietly agreed to strip out of the $100 billion funding bill for Iraq a provision that would have required President Bush to seek congressional approval before launching any new war on Iran.

Pelosi's capitulation came in the Appropriations Committee.

What went down, and why?

"Conservative Democrats as well as lawmakers concerned about the possible impact on Israel had argued for the change in strategy," wrote ghe Associated Press' David Espo and Matthew Lead.

Posted by: clymela on March 23, 2007 03:38 AM

They won't go quietly, clymela. But they'll still go, because their time is at an end. I'm not talking end of political term here, so much as I mean the cycle of time, the winds of change and upcoming transits, none of the effects of which can be ignored or even delayed for long.

More pressing issues are already here, and are demanding to be addressed. Global Warming is very real and poses a mounting, critical threat to everyone, everywhere on Earth today and in the forseeable future. But we cannot properly address it with our heads collectively buried in the sands of denial, any more than we can entrust the future of our energy needs to a Big Oil cabal so impractially fixated on control and dominance of Middle East oilfields that it causes death and destruction to get at them.

Something has got to give. If "they" won't help us to build a better world, then we will just have to sweep them all away, off into history then, won't we? And then we can together build the world that they are so frightened of coming into being.

Speaking of the title of this article 'Little

Pill stops cow burps and helps save the planet

Kate Connolly in Berlin
Friday March 23, 2007
The Guardian

Cut down on flying, sell the car and recycle your bottles. But if you really want to tackle global warming, you should stop your cow from burping.
According to scientific estimates, the methane gas produced by cows is responsible for 4% of greenhouse gas emissions. And now, German scientists have invented a pill to cut bovine burping.

The fist-sized plant-based pill, known as a bolus, combined with a special diet and strict feeding times, is meant to reduce the methane produced by cows.

"Our aim is to increase the wellbeing of the cow, to reduce the greenhouse gases produced and to increase agricultural production all at once," said Winfried Drochner, professor of animal nutrition, who has led the ground-breaking project at the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart. "It is an effective way of fighting global warming."

Prof Drochner wants to use the pill to trap some of the energy from the methane, which is naturally produced in the fermentation process when a cow digests grass and is later mostly burped out through their mouths. Until now it has been wasted.

"We could use the energy to boost the cow's metabolism," he said. The idea is that the cows would use the methane to produce glucose instead of passing it as wind. In turn this should help them to produce more milk.

"The fist-sized tablets mean that microbiotic substances can slowly dissolve in the cow's stomach over several months," said Prof Drochner.

Over the past 50 years the concentration of methane in the atmosphere has increased six-fold. With meat consumption growing, it is set to rise further.

Posted by: wv on March 23, 2007 10:44 AM

Now I am sure the end is near. We can't survive a cow fart? We need to keep the poor cows on drugs to interfere with their metabolism and make them eat their own farts? Help us!! Calling all angels!! We are lost in the wilderness, armed and dangerous to paraphrase a song I love. This is perhaps the sickest thing so far. Who would have thought that it is all the cows fault?

AIPAC Demands "Action" on Iran

Former CIA counterterrorism specialist Philip Giraldi, comparing the propaganda campaign against Iran to that which preceded the war on Iraq, has recently declared, "It is absolutely parallel. They're using the same dance steps-demonize the bad guys, the pretext of diplomacy, keep out of negotiations, use proxies. It is Iraq redux." Jewish Opposition to Israeli Human Rights Crimes is Growing

Criticizing Israel is Not an Act of Bigotry

By JASON KUNIN

A grassroots revolt is underway in Jewish communities throughout the world, a revolt that has panicked the elite organizations that have long functioned as official mouthpieces for the community. The latest sign of this panic is the recent publication by the American Jewish Committee of an essay by Alvin H. Rosenfeld, entitled Progressive Jewish Thought and the New Anti-Semitism, which accuses progressive Jews of abetting a resurgent wave of anti-Semitism by publicly criticizing Israel.

This is the latest attempt to conflate anti-Semitism with anti-Zionism in order to silence or marginalize criticism of Israel. This approach is widely used in Canada. Upon becoming CEO of the Canadian Jewish Congress, Bernie Farber declared that one of his goals was to "educate Canadians about the links between anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism."

The Rovian Theory - By Dan Froomkin

Why are President Bush's Democratic critics so focused on getting White House political guru Karl Rove's testimony regarding the firing of eight U.S. attorneys?

Because based on Rove's history, the whole thing may well have been his idea -- and may be even more complicated than it initially appeared.

Rovian theory suggests the following: The eight U.S. attorneys were fired not only to purge the Justice Department of some prosecutors who were insufficiently willing to use the power of their offices to attack Democrats and protect Republicans --- but also to install favored people who wouldn't have such scruples. And, thanks to a provision snuck into law by a Bush administration henchman (who has since been granted a job as -- you guessed it -- a U.S. attorney) there would be none of those pesky safeguards to prevent those jobs going to unqualified hacks.

Or, as White House Watch reader Charles Posner wrote to me in an e-mail yesterday: "Dan - I think everyone is looking at the Justice Dept. scandal form the wrong end - it's not the firing, but the hiring that's the crux of the issue. Rove has a plan and a list. The plan is to install partisans in the prosecutors' office in order to target Democratic congressmen. Of course, Rove can hand pick each prosecutor without Congress's involvement as allowed by the secret provisions of the Patriot Act. Now, where's his list?"

I'm not sure how bill #124B will ultimately do Pat C. First of all they gutted the provision that Bush has to come back to Congress for approval to start a war with Iran. Looks like he can start that whenever he wants. Second even if it passes the Senate and I kind of believe it might, Bush will veto and it goes back to Congress and they will not override his veto. The Moon was VOC on this bill just having passed a square to Saturn and Mars (people angry at the ultimate outcome) and Mars was oppose Saturn (frustrated action) Mars and Saturn were also sextiling and trining (respectively) GWB's NN, he will get what he wants. The Senate is writing their own bill regarding this so we'll see what that turns out to be. It seems that everyone is afraid of upsetting Israel, that should give us pause and make all of us wonder what Israel has to do with our foreign policy (WV that's not a question, most everyone here knows if they've read your articles, I'm talking about the rest of the country)

"A back door into Iran? Or better yet, who is really behind this? How convenient..."

who indeed Cybear, everyone should be questioning that one.

Walter Haefeker is a man who is used to painting grim scenarios. He sits on the board of directors of the German Beekeepers Association (DBIB) and is vice president of the European Professional Beekeepers Association. And because griping is part of a lobbyist's trade, it is practically his professional duty to warn that "the very existence of beekeeping is at stake."
As far back as 2005, Haefeker ended an article he contributed to the journal Der Kritischer Agrarbericht (Critical Agricultural Report) with an Albert Einstein quote: "If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe then man would only have four years of life left. No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more man."

Mysterious events in recent months have suddenly made Einstein's apocalyptic vision seem all the more topical. For unknown reasons, bee populations throughout Germany are disappearing - something that is so far only harming beekeepers. But the situation is different in the United States, where bees are dying in such dramatic numbers that the economic consequences could soon be dire. No one knows what is causing the bees to perish, but some experts believe that the large-scale use of genetically modified plants in the US could be a factor.....................

Maybe I can convince some of the rigidly Repug locals that impeachment is critical.........

Standing Up To The Bully
by Mike Lux

Bush's reaction to the House vote today confirms the wisdom of Pelosi, MoveOn.org, USAction and the other leaders opposing the war in Iraq in supporting this supplemental appropriations approach to challenging the president. He is lashing out because he knows his days of doing whatever he wants in Iraq, with no checks on his power, are over.

Democrats now have to hang tough and face down his tantrums and his bullying. We have to re-double our efforts to win the showdown vote in the Senate, and face Bush to come to the table and negotiate with the majority in Congress who oppose his reckless arrogance in Iraq.

Today marks a great day in American political history. The story is far from over, but Bush finally has an opposition with the guts and strength to make him compromise.

Posted by: lunaoscura on March 24, 2007 06:01 PM

By vetoing the bill Bush opens himself and any politician who supports him to the forthcoming political accusations of refusing to bring the troops home AND not sending them money.

I'm thinking that maybe the House just set a trap even Rove didn't see coming? Maybe so, since Bush just had to go out there and show who's more Macho which is so unRovian, since their usual actions are carried out under a rock while they get others to do their bidding. Popcorn anyone? I think I might go pop some up.

(His) Long-Term Thoughts

The Saturn-Neptune opposition is being stimulated by the transit of Mars over Neptune, and in opposition to Saturn this past week, and even into Sunday. And all the seedy themes of deception, manipulation, and suspicion of “acting in bad faith” – typical negative manifestations of Saturn in opposition to Neptune – are coming to surface in full force in the United States . The Democratic controlled Congress is calling for subpoenas now related to the dismissal of several U.S. attorneys under Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez. Amongst those expected to be subpoenaed are Chief White House Advisor Karl Rove, who according to emails, apparently was quite involved in the decision. Now, if one is trying to counteract the negative effects of Saturn-Neptune (i.e., the perception of covering up or avoiding accountability), you don't respond to these requests by saying something like, “We will allow them to talk to these people, but not under oath, and not recorded.” What? This type of response only plays in to the suspicion nature of these aspects, and leads one's opponents to believe even more fervently that there is a major lapse of ethics afoot in the government, and will only lead to more investigations of Mr. Bush and his White House aides.

The Democrats have got it half right on how to win the 2008 election. They don't have to impeach President Bush. In fact, it is better that they do not, if their sole goal is to “win the election” (as opposed to doing what is truly best for the country). All they have to do is to continue calling for investigations in to questionable activities and decisions of the past 6 years. All they have to do is continually remind the public of how the multitude of questionable and unethical behavior has upset the trust Americans have placed in its Republican leaders.

The other half of the equation to “easily walk away with a 2008 election victory” is to simply do fiscally what they promised to do in the 2006 mid-term elections. They criticized the White House and Republican Congress for failing to control their spending, an issue that historically has gotten the Democrats into all kinds of trouble, to the point that they still have to fight the label of being the “spend and tax” party. But in this regard, the Democrats have also failed miserably in their fiduciary duties and promises this past week, by applying over $20 billion of unrelated dollars to be spent on “pork” – programs totally unrelated to the funding of U.S. soldiers fighting the War on Terrorism. That's what the bill was about – to fund the soldiers or not. It has nothing to do with millions of dollars added to this bill to be spent on researching spinach and other foods! If the Democrats want to walk away with complete control of the White House and Congress in 2008, they can't succumb to these types of historical patterns that are so consistent with the Saturn-Neptune opposition (violations of trust). They too will lose all credibility, and thus make it a very close election. From now through 2010, nobody can expect to succeed if he/she isn't willing to behave with integrity, honesty, and trustworthiness. For once this Saturn-Neptune opposition is completed, we begin the biggest challenge of them all: the Saturn-Uranus opposition (2008-2010). The last time that happened was in 1965-1967. It wasn't just a war, then, that is so much like today's war. It was about distrust for the leadership of the country's top elected officials, and nearly led to revolution.

Bill Maher New Rule:

"You know, not to generalize, but the 29% of people who still support President Bush are the ones who love to pronounce themselves more patriotic than the rest of us. But just saying you're patriotic is like saying you have a big cock. If you have to say it, chances are it's not true. And indeed the party that flatters itself that they protect America better is the party that has exhausted the military, left the ports wide open, and purposefully outed a CIA agent, Valerie Plame. That's not treason anymore, outing a spy? Did I mention she's one of our spies? And how despicable that Bush's lackeys attempted to diminish their crime by belittling her service, like she was just some chick who hung around the CIA. An intern really. Groupie if you want to be mean about it. No. Big lie. Valerie Plame was the CIA's operational officer in charge of counter-proliferation, which means she tracked loose nukes. So when Bush says, as he once did, that his absolute #1 priority was preventing terrorists from getting loose nukes, okay that's what she worked on. She devoted her life to it, staying undercover for 20 years, maintaining two identities every God damn day. This was extraordinary service to your country. Valerie Plame was the kind of real-life secret-agent George Bush dreams of being when he's not too busy pretending to be a cowboy or a fighter pilot.
CIA agents are troops. This was a military assassination of one of our own, done through the press, ordered by Karl Rove. He said of Valerie Plame, "she's fair game," and then Cheney shot her. George Bush likes to claim that he doesn't question his critics' patriotism, just their judgment. Well, let me be the first of your critics, Mr. President, to question your judgment and your patriotism. Because let's not forget why they did it to her. Because Valerie Plame is married to this guy, Joe Wilson, who the Bush people hated because he busted them on one of their bullshit reasons for invading Iraq. He was sent to the African country of Niger to see if Niger was selling nuclear fuel to Iraq. They weren't, it was bullshit and he said so. In fact his report was called Niger Please. Valerie Plame's husband told the truth about their lie, so they were willing to jeopardize an entire network of spies to ruin her life. Wow. Even the mob doesn't go after your family. Mark Twain said that patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it, and I say Valerie Plame is a patriot because she spent her life serving her country, Scooter Libby is not because he spent his life serving Dick Cheney. Valerie Plame kept her secrets, the Bush administration leaked like the plumbing at Walter Reed. In the year 2008, I really think that Hillary Clinton should run for president on a platform of restoring honor and integrity to the Oval Office."

I haven't seen anything posted by Lynda Hill in a long time, but here's what she says about the New Moon.

"This week's new Moon is a reflective, rather contemplative one, and one that has us wanting more answers to life. The Sabian Symbol for this Moon is Capricorn 29: A Woman Reading Tea Leaves. This Symbol has us wanting to find answers, to feel that we have a sense of guidance, an understanding of what's coming or clues to issues we've been asking questions about.

‘A Woman Reading Tea Leaves’ shows someone looking into a cup and being able to see and ‘read’ signs and meaning in things that most people would never stop to notice or know how to make sense of. The patterns in the cup “speak” to the woman. There’s no way of knowing how good she is at interpreting what she sees: She may be a very experienced reader, with a great depth of clairvoyance or intuition, or she may be trying to see how much she can ‘read’ into the ‘tea leaves’ in a simpler, or experimental way."

Gore's legislative recommendations to the House

An immediate "carbon freeze" that would cap U.S. CO2 emissions at current levels, followed by a program to generate 90% reductions by 2050.

Start a long-term tax shift to reduce payroll taxes and increase taxes on CO2 emissions.

Put aside a portion of carbon tax revenues to help low-income people make the transition.

Create a strong international treaty by working toward "de facto compliance with Kyoto" and moving up the start date for Kyoto's successor from 2012 to 2010.

Implement a moratorium on construction of new coal-fired power plants that are not compatible with carbon capture and sequestration.

Create an "ELECTRANET" -- a smart electricity grid that allows individuals and businesses to feed power back in at prevailing market rates.

Raise CAFE standards.

Set a date for a ban on incandescent light bulbs.

Create "Connie Mae," a carbon-neutral mortgage association, to help defray the upfront costs of energy-efficient building.

Have the SEC require disclosure of carbon emissions in corporate reporting, as a relevant "material risk."

Sharon, wouldn't it be wonderful is New Orleans is built on solid ecological lines? It could be America's "green city" and a model for both harmony socially and for harmony with the earth. I saw the New Orleans coastline returned to nature, with the city moved back further from the shore, and the racist counties being forced further back because New New Orleans now took them over. The dead/murdered of Katrina will have their revenge!

America could have a twenty-first economy that is more self-sufficient agriculturally and everyway by embracing green energy. It would also liberate the Middle East, as our upholding the dictatorships there is to ensure a cheap supply of petroleum. Once we are weaned off of petroleum for fuel (there will still be jelly and plastic), then the MIddle East will be free to return to their natural inclination as traders, and once again feel free to travel and have a diversified economy.

STRAIGHT HATE
A gay man wants to know why

By LARRY KRAMER

DEAR straight people:

Why do you hate gay people so much?

Gays are hated. Prove me wrong. Your top general just called us immoral. Marine Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, is in charge of an estimated 65,000 gay and lesbian troops, some fighting for our country in Iraq. A right-wing political commentator, Ann Coulter, gets away with calling a straight presidential candidate a faggot. Even Garrison Keillor, of all people, is making really tacky jokes about gay parents in his column. This, I guess, does not qualify as hate except that it is so distasteful and dumb, often a first step on the way to hate. Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama tried to duck the questions that Pace's bigotry raised, confirming what gay people know: that there is not one candidate running for public office anywhere who dares to come right out, unequivocally, and say decent, supportive things about us.

Rosie O'Donnell takes a stand for 9-11 Truth. Rosie has remarked on it on "The View" as well as in this recent blog entry:

http://www.rosie.com/blog/2007/03/page/2/

excerpt; at 5 30 pm 9 11 2001 wtc7 collapsed

for the third time in history fire brought down a steel building reducing it to rubble

hold on folks here we go

• The fires in WTC 7 were not evenly distributed, so a perfect collapse was impossible. • Silverstein said to the fire department commander “the smartest thing to do is pull it.” • Firefighters withdrawing from the area stated the building was going to “blow up”. • The roof of WTC 7 visibly crumbled and the building collapsed perfectly into its footprint. • Molten steel and partially evaporated steel members were found in the debris.

[WTC 7] contained offices of the FBI, Department of Defense, IRS (which contained prodigious amounts of corporate tax fraud, including Enron's), US Secret Service, Securities & Exchange Commission (with more stock fraud records), and Citibank's Salomon Smith Barney, the Mayor's Office of Emergency Management and many other financial institutions. [Online Journal]

The SEC has not quantified the number of active cases in which substantial files were destroyed [by the collapse of WTC 7]. Reuters news service and the Los Angeles Times published reports estimating them at 3,000 to 4,000. They include the agency's major inquiry into the manner in which investment banks divvied up hot shares of initial public offerings during the high-tech boom. …”Ongoing investigations at the New York SEC will be dramatically affected because so much of their work is paper-intensive,” said Max Berger of New York's Bernstein Litowitz Berger & Grossmann. “This is a disaster for these cases.” [New York Lawyer]

Citigroup says some information that the committee is seeking [about WorldCom] was destroyed in the Sept. 11 terror attack on the World Trade Center. Salomon had offices in 7 World Trade Center, one of the buildings that collapsed in the aftermath of the attack. The bank says that back-up tapes of corporate emails from September 1998 through December 2000 were stored at the building and destroyed in the attack. [TheStreet]

Inside [WTC 7 was] the US Secret Service's largest field office with more than 200 employees. …”All the evidence that we stored at 7 World Trade, in all our cases, went down with the building,” according to US Secret Service Special Agent David Curran. [TechTV]

The Real Gay Agenda

By Mary Shaw

John and Chris have been together for three decades. They've raised two healthy and well-adjusted children, who have themselves grown up, gotten married, and provided John and Chris with two beautiful grandchildren so far.

When they were in their twenties, Chris worked two jobs to put John through medical school. They've stayed together through good times and bad. Their love and their devotion to each other have remained strong even as most other residents of their suburban Philadelphia neighborhood have divorced, remarried, and in some cases divorced again.

Child Abuse Convictions and Bankruptcies Have a Silver Lining for Gay People

By James Nimmo

The Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Peter Pace (also a practicing Roman Catholic) is in the news for stating unequivocally that gay people are immoral.

On a tour of his homeland in the late summer of 2006, Pope Benedict XVI, Pace's titular chief of the holy spirit, said that the movement for gay equality is an ephemeral social trend.

Pace is merely doing his pastoral duty, as taught by the example of his Pope, by defaming America's serving gay military men and women who are estimated to be about 65,000 in number by the Servicemember Legal Defense Fund (www.sldn.org), a support group for gay military members, both currently serving and those seperated from the service.

I can no longer keep up, let alone follow the plots cooked up by the perpetrators of our new Pox Americana, the practitioners of dipstick diplomacy led by our chief denier and destroyer. (If it were not for Iraq, I do believe there is every chance we would never again see the letters "W" and "I-Q" in the very same sentence.)

For nearly six years, from the rabbinical Wolf Blitzer to the rabid Chris Matthews, I have been assaulted 365/12/52/24/7 by the never-ending exploits of a gang of flag-clad thugs, avid proponents of an Imperial Vice-Presidency; a gang that cannot shoot straight (except at one another or at the U.S. Constitution). Too busy to keep up with all the blogging, I am sustained chiefly by my fix of Frank Rich's weekly essays, his valiant (and brilliant) reminders that a counter-Coulter does in fact exist.

Wikipedia: "As a Filipino-American, Ms. Ralston..."

Why don't we do same for pinks? There s/b England-American, Scotland-American, Irish-American, Castilian Spain-American, French-American... yes? But pinkness is always a given... true Americans are always always pink (which is silly since American indigenous peoples are "Indian"). Non-pinks get the hybrid treatment. Just like "wives" are sometimes hybridized... Alicia Ramsey-Clark, Hillary Rodham-Clinton... you know, or no messing around, just "disappeared" altogether (Mrs James Hancock, Mrs Harvey Simpson, Jr, etc etc). So further investigation shows us that the only true American is always male. And the only true human... with all other peoples being DEVIANTS from the norm... is pink (supremacist) male.

You think I'm a bit of an exaggerator? Start studying up on how psych tests have been normed... for starters. ;O)

* The “I” Word — a Fredo solution?

The Sun pundit TV offerings concerned themselves with the smackdown on Gonzales & 8-Gate, & brought us some of the faces that go with the names of the dismissed attys. Their own outrage adds to the drama … & they were articulate. David Iglesias is their lead singer, it appears; here’s what he said on Meet the Press.

"I do know that our cks/balances is something that we all learn about in 5th grade civics class. I’m seeing that in play right now. I’m seeing Congress exercising oversight role in a way that’s been absent for 6 yrs. I think, ultimately, things’ll work out fine for all of us, but right now it is very troubling to, to see the politicization of the [Un]Justice Dept."

If there is no give between the Congress & [rotten-rez], the whole thing, as petrie dish for Constitutional challenge, could go on hold for bush’s remaining 2 yrs as it heads thru channels toward the SC. But not if the Congress decides to impeach Fredo instead … a twist in the game — & perhaps a warning shot over dubby’s bow. The Pubs are urging bush to give in on rove & miers … & give out on his AG. But dubby’s pissed at his Pubs, they’ve not remained loyal to his vision. And giving in on his inner circle would be, as the pundits said this w/e, allowing “the camels nose under the tent flap.” Discouraged, in most Adms … verboten in this one.

Reads incl Frank Rich, Bob [gasp!] Novak — & do read the Iglesias/Russert exchange on biblical reference in A Huffington’s piece. Final articles here have to do with this scandal being more than the sum of its parts — this isn’t just another “hand in the cookie jar” corruption case … it’s the Hamburgler running off with the whole jar, as America just wakes up to the fact that it’s been Ronald McDonald, painted on happy-face & big floppy shoes, for too many years. There’s one here that ties cheney to Carol Lam in the great snarl of San Diego politics, & the last one is on the calibre of the atty “replacements” … very telling. ... http://polwaves.planetwaves.net/

Blackwater Reveals Underpinnings of 'Private Security' Industry

Questions arise for which there are no known answers at this time, such as: Who else besides Erik Prince has a financial stake in Blackwater?

Among the many topics covered in his new book, Blackwater: The Rise of the World's Most Powerful Mercenary Army, investigative reporter Jeremy Scahill shows how politically powerful Christian fundamentalists and Neocons are pressing forward with their battle for what they call 'freedom' and 'democracy'—whether the U.S. public, or indeed the rest of the world, wants to fight or not.

Breaking News! Mining Permits Rescinded!

On March 23, 2007, a federal judge in West Virginia issued a decision in a case challenging the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ decision to allow stream and headwater destruction by mountaintop removal coal mining in Appalachia. Earthjustice and the Appalachian Center for the Economy and the Environment represented the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition, Coal River Mountain Watch and the West Virginia Highlands Conservancy in the lawsuit in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia, Judge Robert C. Chambers.

The following is a statement by Earthjustice attorney Steve Roady regarding today’s victory:

"Today, we applaud the ruling in federal court stating that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers violated the law by issuing mountaintop removal mining permits that allowed vital headwater streams to be permanently buried.

"The federal government has been illegally issuing such permits. Doing so has led to widespread and irreversible devastation to the streams, mountains and lands across Appalachia. The Judge has made it clear that the Corps must now comply with the Clean Water Act and stop issuing illegal permits.

"This decision does give the Corps another chance to try and show that they can issue permits for valley fills in streams without violating the law. But the evidence to date shows that the Corps has no scientific basis – no real evidence of any kind – upon which it bases its decisions to permit this permanent destruction to streams and headwaters. They have shown no evidence to support their claims that this destruction can simply be ‘fixed’ through mitigation. In fact, as the court opinion correctly notes: "The Corp’s witnesses . . . conceded that the Corps does not know of any successful stream creation projects in the Appalachian region."

"Mountaintop removal mining valley fills cannot comply with the Clean Water Act without strict environmental limits. We hope the Corps recognizes this fact and realizes that approving illegal mountaintop removal mining permits does nothing to protect the environment, violates the law and is destroying the lives and culture of the people of West Virginia and the region.

Pat C.,thanks for the link to the article on Blackwater. Very interesting as they have secret links to many high ranking Republicans as well as many in the right wing religious Dominionist Political movement. One of the big CEO's of Blackwater is Erik Prince, who is the brother of Betsy Devos. She is the daughter-in-law of former big Amway CEO Richard DeVos - all heavily involved in the Dominionists. Amway is certainly a very Republican movement - scarey almost in their cult like goings on. Two very dear friends were lured into Amway years ago and have since given up any friendships not condoned as "Christian" by their Amway support group. Scarey type people - as are the Dominionists themselves!

Dennis Kucinich is proposing a new 9-11 investigation.

Kucinich to launch a 'narrow portion' 9/11 investigation

http://kucinich.us/node/3837

excerpt:

He also said that as chairman of a House subcommittee on domestic policy, he plans to launch an investigation of "a narrow portion" of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. He offered few details, but said his subcommittee would be looking at "a few, specific discrepancies in the public record." The 9/11 Commission that published its final report in 2004 never resolved some conflicting facts, Kucinich said. He announced his own look at 9/11 in answer to a question from an audience member. The man complained that the 9/11 Commission was too tied to the Bush administration to offer an unbiased report, and Kucinich agreed.

For the last six years or so I felt like I was screaming into the abyss and that this gang of thugs which kicked and elbowed its way into power would never be brought down. Just in the last week I've been amazed at how fast it's finally (can we hope) beginning to collapse.

What's scary is, the scandals go to the very heart of our nation, our legal justice system. I think beneath the cover ups, the lies, the shifting stories, the stonewalling it will be revealed that the administration used the DOJ to steal elections for Repugs. And this time we may really get to the bottom of it. I will be glad when sunlight shines on it. But I will be physically ill.

Two other things: Warn Henry Waxman not to travel in small planes.

And, I can't keep up with all the popcorn I have to make.

Inside the secretive plan to gut the Endangered Species Act

Proposed regulatory changes, obtained by Salon, would destroy the "safety net for animals and plants on the brink of extinction," say environmentalists.

March 27, 2007 | The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is maneuvering to fundamentally weaken the Endangered Species Act, its strategy laid out in an internal 117-page draft proposal obtained by Salon. The proposed changes limit the number of species that can be protected and curtail the acres of wildlife habitat to be preserved. It shifts authority to enforce the act from the federal government to the states, and it dilutes legal barriers that protect habitat from sprawl, logging or mining.

"The proposed changes fundamentally gut the intent of the Endangered Species Act," says Jan Hasselman, a Seattle attorney with Earthjustice, an environmental law firm, who helped Salon interpret the proposal. "This is a no-holds-barred end run around one of America's most popular environmental protections. If these regulations stand up, the act will no longer provide a safety net for animals and plants on the brink of extinction."

In recent months, the Fish and Wildlife Service has gone to extraordinary efforts to keep drafts of regulatory changes from the public. All copies of the working document were given a number corresponding to a person, so that leaked copies could be traced to that individual. An e-mail sent in March from an assistant regional director at the Fish and Wildlife Service to agency staff, asking for comments on and corrections to the first draft, underscored the concern with secrecy: "Please Keep close hold for now. Dale [Hall, director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service] does not want this stuff leaking out to stir up discontent based on speculation."

Many Fish and Wildlife Service employees believe the draft is not based on "defensible science," says a federal employee who asked to remain anonymous. Yet "there is genuine fear of retaliation for communicating that to the media. People are afraid for their jobs."

U. S. ATTORNEYS
Who is Monica Goodling?

WASHINGTON - Monica Goodling, the Department of Justice official who said Monday that she'll invoke the Fifth Amendment rather than talk to lawmakers, is a frequent figure in department e-mails released so far as part of the congressional investigation into the firings and hirings of U.S. attorneys.

Goodling, 33, is a 1995 graduate Messiah College in Grantham, Pa., an institution that describes itself as "committed to embracing an evangelical spirit."

She received her law degree at Regent University in Virginia Beach, Va. Regent, founded by Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson, says its mission is "to produce Christian leaders who will make a difference, who will change the world."

E-mails show that Goodling was involved in planning the dismissals and in later efforts to limit the negative reaction. As the Justice Department's liaison to the White House, she could shed light on the extent of White House involvement in the dismissals.

........

Josh Marshall's readers question Monica's plea.

Goodling's attorney's letter does not provide a valid basis for invoking the Fifth. You can't invoke the Fifth to avoid perjury charges (or obstructing justice with the selfsame testimony). (I have the cases here, if you want them.) You can't invoke the Fifth because you think the Committee is on a witch hunt. Etc.
.....

Goodling will not testify because she fears that, even though telling the truth, she may face perjury charges due to the hostility of Democrats on the Judiciary Committee. The Fifth Amendment, however, has nothing to do with perjury or with feared partisanship. Rather, it states a privilege against self-incriminating testimony. If the Fifth were to be accepted every time a witness feared a perjury indictment, we would have very few witnesses, indeed.

Operation Bite: April 6 sneak attack by US forces against Iran planned, Russian military sources warn

By Webster G. Tarpley
Online Journal Contributing Writer

Mar 26, 2007, 01:02

WASHINGTON DC, -- The long awaited US military attack on Iran is now on track for the first week of April, specifically for 4 am on April 6, the Good Friday opening of Easter weekend, writes the well-known Russian journalist Andrei Uglanov in the Moscow weekly _Argumenty Nedeli._ Uglanov cites Russian military experts close to the Russian General Staff for his account.

The attack is slated to last for 12 hours, according to Uglanov, from 4 am until 4 pm local time. Friday is the sabbath in Iran. In the course of the attack, code named Operation Bite, about 20 targets are marked for bombing; the list includes uranium enrichment facilities, research centers, and laboratories.

The first reactor at the Bushehr nuclear plant, where Russian engineers are working, is supposed to be spared from destruction. The US attack plan reportedly calls for the Iranian air defense system to be degraded, for numerous Iranian warships to be sunk in the Persian Gulf, and for the most important headquarters of the Iranian armed forces to be wiped out.

The attacks will be mounted from a number of bases, including the island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. Diego Garcia is currently home to B-52 bombers equipped with standoff missiles. Also participating in the air strikes will be US naval aviation from aircraft carriers in the Persian Gulf, as well as from those of the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean. Additional cruise missiles will be fired from submarines in the Indian Ocean and off the coast of the Arabian peninsula. The goal is allegedly to set back Iran_s nuclear program by several years, writes Uglanov, whose article was reissued by RIA-Novosti in various languages, but apparently not English, several days ago. The story is the top item on numerous Italian and German blogs, but so far appears to have been ignored by US websites.

Observers comment that this dispatch represents a high-level orchestrated leak from the Kremlin, in effect a war warning, which draws on the formidable resources of the Russian intelligence services, and which deserves to be taken with the utmost seriousness by pro-peace forces around the world.

Asked by RIA-Novosti to comment on the Uglanov report, retired Colonel General Leonid Ivashov confirmed its essential features in a March 21 interview: _I have no doubt that there will be an operation, or more precisely a violent action against Iran._ Ivashov, who has reportedly served at various times as an informal advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin, is currently the vice president of the Moscow Academy for Geopolitical Sciences.

Ivashov attributed decisive importance to the decision of the Democratic leadership of the US House of Representatives to remove language from the just-passed Iraq supplemental military appropriations bill that would have demanded that Bush come to Congress before launching an attack on Iran. Ivashov pointed out that the language was eliminated under pressure from AIPAC, the lobbing group representing the Israeli extreme right, and from Israeli Foreign Minister Tsipi Livni.

_We have drawn the unmistakable conclusion that this operation will take place,_ said Ivashov. In his opinion, the US planning does not include a land operation: _ Most probably there will be no ground attack, but rather massive air attacks with the goal of annihilating Iran_s capacity for military resistance, the centers of administration, the key economic assets, and quite possibly the Iranian political leadership, or at least part of it,_ he continued.

Ivashov noted that it was not to be excluded that the Pentagon would use smaller tactical nuclear weapons against targets of the Iranian nuclear industry. These attacks could paralyze everyday life, create panic in the population, and generally produce an atmosphere of chaos and uncertainty all over Iran, Ivashov told RIA-Novosti. _This will unleash a struggle for power inside Iran, and then there will be a peace delegation sent in to install a pro-American government in Teheran,_ Ivashov continued. One of the US goals was, in his estimation, to burnish the image of the current Republican administration, which would now be able to boast that they had wiped out the Iranian nuclear program.

Among the other outcomes, General Ivashov pointed to a partition of Iran along the same lines as Iraq, and a subsequent carving up of the Near and Middle East into smaller regions. _This concept worked well for them in the Balkans and will now be applied to the greater Middle East,_ he commented..

_Moscow must exert Russia_s influence by demanding an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council to deal with the current preparations for an illegal use of force against Iran and the destruction of the basis of the United Nations Charter,_ said General Ivashov. _In this context Russia could cooperate with China, France and the non-permanent members of the Security Council. We need this kind of preventive action to ward off the use of force,_ he concluded.

http://blogs.chron.com/texaspolitics/archives/2007/03/did_al_gonzales.html

The Democrats at the Lone Star Project say U.S. Attorney General Al Gonzales and U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton in San Antonio blew their chance to bring justice to the Texas Youth Commission sexual abuse case.

Texas Ranger Brian Burzynski took the case of sex abuse at the West Texas State School to federal authorities in 2005 when he got frustrated that a local district attorney would not prosecute.

Sutton's office on July 28, 2005, sent Burzynski a letter saying they would decline to prosecute two TYC administrators for having sex with boys in their custody.

When the TYC system build-up was occurring during the administration of then-Gov. George W. Bush, Gonzales was the governor's general counsel and Sutton was his policy director on criminal justice issues.

Matt Angle of the Lone Star Project said the federal authorities, along with Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, "were aware of the sordid sexual and physical abuse of juveniles taking place at Texas Youth Commission facilities more than a year before the story broke in the press."

Angle said neither the U.S. Justice Department nor Abbott "took any action, official or unofficial, to stop the abuse, punish the abusers or even publicize the abuse taking place." ?

Thanks for interesting post on Goodling. Those hand-raised baby theocrats are everywhere in the govt now, and Regent U, + Patrick Henry U are turning more out every year.

Just had an intuitive flash--you know who's going to be the GOP prez nominee? Fred Thompson. Betcha anything. Bday 19 Aug 1942, Sheffield Alabama time unknown.

Cheney left the Senate surrounded by security officials after the non-binding timeline of Iraq troop withdrawal was passed on a vote of 50-48 today. Cheney was present in the event he was needed cast a tie-braking vote.

Happy, happy, happy dance!!! It's remarkable that he needs his thugs giving him security even in the Senate!

A monstrous war crime

With more than 650,000 civilians dead in Iraq, our government must take responsibility for its lies

Richard Horton
Wednesday March 28, 2007

Guardian

Our collective failure has been to take our political leaders at their word. This week the BBC reported that the government's own scientists advised ministers that the Johns Hopkins study on Iraq civilian mortality was accurate and reliable, following a freedom of information request by the reporter Owen Bennett-Jones. This paper was published in the Lancet last October. It estimated that 650,000 Iraqi civilians had died since the American and British led invasion in March 2003.
Immediately after publication, the prime minister's official spokesman said that the Lancet's study "was not one we believe to be anywhere near accurate". The foreign secretary, Margaret Beckett, said that the Lancet figures were "extrapolated" and a "leap". President Bush said: "I don't consider it a credible report".

Scientists at the UK's Department for International Development thought differently. They concluded that the study's methods were "tried and tested". Indeed, the Johns Hopkins approach would likely lead to an "underestimation of mortality".

Bush says "I don't agree" or "I don't believe it", and voila, because God speaks through him, it is THE Truth.

Posted by: lunaoscura on March 28, 2007 02:16 AM

BushWorld sucks and always will. For decent Americans his legacy will have them say "Remember the Bush Era!", just like jingoist Americans say "Remember the Alamo!", only the Alamo belonged to Mexico and the Americans were the squatters who were expelled. In Bush's case he's the squatter.

THE MIRACLE OF THE PEACE SIGN APPEARING ON THE LAWN OF THE US CAPITOL.

On Sunday, March 25, James Twyman, Peace Troubadour. focused a peace ceremony commemorating the Season For Non-Violence in Washington, DC.

During the ceremony, which was held on the west lawn of the US Capitol, the "Children's Cloth of Many Colors" was laid gently on the grass in the form of a giant peace sign, and the ceremony took place in the center.

The next day the sponsor of the event, Gerry Eitner, received a concerned phone call from the US Capitol Police saying that the grass where the cloth lie was now discolored, leaving an enormous peace sign on the lawn.

This morning the police department called back with more information. They believe that some type of fertilizer attached to the quilt caused the discoloration. In reality, however, there was nothing attached to the Children's Cloth except the prayers of those present at the ceremony, as well as thousands of people from around the world. Subsequent calls to professional lawn care companies indicated that there is currently nothing on the market that would cause such a sudden overnight change. In fact, witnesses reported that the "peace sign grass" is actually longer and greener than the rest of the lawn.

Has a miracle visited the US Capitol? If so, then what is the message?

From James Twyman:

"I believe that this miracle was caused by two factors. First of all, there were hundreds of thousands of people focusing on the Capitol ceremony while it was taking place. At one point we actually held hands around the peace sign and called upon the energy of all those people from around the world, feeling their presence around the quilt with us. The intent of so many people can be a powerful energetic force and seems to have catalyzed a change in the actual earth causing the grass to grow greener and longer overnight. Second, I believe that in some way and for some reason the earth is literally giving us a sign. This is a critical point in the history of the world. If we don't begin turning our thoughts and actions toward peace, for both humanity and the environment, a deep crisis may be around the corner. For me the peace sign on the lawn of the US Capitol is both a warning and a symbol of hope. I'm hoping we'll listen and begin working for peace."

Photos of the grass as well as the peace ceremony will be online later today or tomorrow at

www.jamestwyman.com.

Well, they may have their images of Jesus or Mary appear on a tortilla or bowl of grits, but we got a peace sign on the WH lawn. Not bad. Not bad.

Alternet has sent around a petition to put a stop to the Canadian seal huntings....sign it there: https://community.hsus.org/campaign/protectseals_web/?qp_source=gabav6

In 2006, over 350,000 seals were needlessly shot and clubbed to death in eastern Canada. The Humane Society is continuing their fight to stop the largest commercial slaughter of marine mammals on the planet and they're asking for your help. Please take a moment to consider their pledge below and help them put an end to this unnecessary and brutal practice.
