THE FOUR CORNERS OF THE UNIVERSE

An Astrological Cornucopia accompanied GWB's speech tonight. All the elements were there, earth, air, water and fire, lots of fire. Mars, Jupiter, Pluto and Saturn were all in fire. Mars at 25 degrees Sagittarius, just spitting over the edge of the Galactic Center. Pluto at 27 degrees is deep within the clutches of the Black Hole known as the Galactic Center. Jupiter at 10 degrees sits astride the evil and violent fixed star Rastaban (it's known for lasting pain.) The Ascendant at 8 degrees Virgo, conjuncts the selfish, mean, shameless and egotistical fixed star Zosma. The ascendant also squares the US Uranus known as the nuclear degree, squares the 2005 Inaugural Moon and conjuncts GWB's Mars; our President was very intent on more and more and more war and milking the United States dry and was delivering that message tonight.

The 2005 Inaugural Saturn conjuncts the US Mercury indicating a muting of American voices, but the people behind those voices are angry just not quite ready to explode or don't know exactly how to do so or what to say but they are angry at the impunity with which the message was delivered, "who cares what you think."

His comments on Iran, while delivered with a subdued, passive, disinterested monotone, still has the "rinestone cowboy" intent. Iran doesn't have strong aspects for war, however transiting Pluto is conjunct their Venus and Venus is capable of getting into a snit and doing something stupid in the name of their integrity and pride. Think of William Wallace understandably but ill advised, going against the King in Braveheart. Iran is heavily involved with the insurgents in Iraq whether admitted or not.

Will this "surge" work? No. There are 27 million people in Iraq, the 140,000 troops we have now isn't enough to stop the killings, another 20,000 only puts us back to where we were when we went into Iraq and that was a disaster. We will have to wait to see what Congress does and even if they won't fund it, the President has enough money left from their last funding to send the troops with or without the approval of Congress. Even if he does go around Congress and send the troops, it's too little, too late and cannot possibly accomplish any objective, just like the war itself.

George Bush has of late been dubbed Caligula, whose life devolved into insanity and tragically ended assassinated by the very guard whose jobs were to protect him. http://www.vroma.org/~bmcmanus/caligula.html

The pundits are rightly reporting that the President is standing alone except for John McCain and Joe Lieberman (Saturn is in an exact square to Joe's Mars, big mistake for Joe) looks like that "kiss" meant something after all.

If this run away admistration can possibly stop their death train, I would take the first window open to get out of Iraq. I don't hold out much hope for that because we've yet to hear the truth of this war agenda and Bush is fulfilling someone's idea of progress, it just isn't the majority of the world's concept.

Think peace, think oneness with humanity, think light in the world, it's our way out.

Another fine article, Sally. I honestly don't think they even want to try and stop it. Too many of their corporate buddies and even they themselves -- Cheney in particular comes to mind -- are still profiting madly from all this wanton bloodshed, death and destruction.

The motive for greed and gain has become so all-consuming to them that they are willing to destroy half the planet if it firmly secures their bank accounts and perceived lockdown on global dominance. Besides, what other way is there, they must be thinking, other than power and violence? If you aren't screwing someone else, then someone else is screwing you. It is truly an ugly madness that has consumed the hearts, minds and souls of Bush, Cheney, the NeoCons and all of their Corporatist backers that they have followed this darkened and bloody path, and will have no other way.

I will say that I am picking up on a lot more widespread public anger and resentment directed towards Bush. After 6 long years, Americans finally seem to be waking up from their jingoistic, flag-waving, 9/11-induced stupor to face reality, and they haven't even begun to see the glaring, shameful picture of it all.

Perhaps Nancy Pelosi's rise to become Speaker of the House is timely in another way, aside from the obvious, she being the first ever female Speaker of the House and representative of the new Democratic Majority. I don't think the Speaker of the House as an individual or a Congressional role has ever received so much attention. Did anyone really know Hastert or even Gingrich for that matter?

With Pelosi's rise, however, the entire role of Speaker of the House seems to have undergone a transformation, and she is providing genuine leadership right out of the gate. In parliamentary terms, she's probably the closest thing we have to a Prime Minister. Perhaps we should make it official, and cull the powers of, if not outright terminate the office of the President? As Bush has so clearly demonstrated, one man should never be permitted to wield so much power. At least with Congress or a Parliament with Executive Branch functionality, that power is diluted among many individuals.

Hillary is popular with her constituents in New York but she fails on the national stage. Yes she seems too scripted. I wonder what she actually believes.
I missed the speech and the interview with Obama-hope I can find it on video. The forced transfer is kicking my butt. I heard the speech on radio and was surprised by the lack of passion and how much it sounded like all the other speeches.

Did anyone notice, Bush talked about needing more troops to secure Baghdad--not Iraq. As if he has given up on Iraq. All he needs now is to protect the puppet government until they hand over the oil rights to his buddies. And then just enough troops (cheap taxpayer paid security) to guard the oil fields.

Then on to Iran and a new disaster.

At speech time wasn't Saturn in Leo in 12th House? I thought he would be bossy and "because I say so, that's why."

Great articles and comments here.

QOP already posted the raid on the Iranian embassy in Erbil. And now we learn all the action in Somalia apparently netted no enemy leadership (though it did kill a lot of civilians):
http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/africa/01/11/somalia.ap/index.html

Some administration guy just called for increasing the military by 92,000 troops. How are they gonna do that?

This is some scary stuff--and more to come. There is an endless cornucopia of madness it seems.

Another fine article, Sally!

Been doing some research into Libertarian/Republican Congressman Ron Paul. I've got to say I have been very impressed with his integrity.

Great article at anitwar.com:

"We have been in Iraq for 45 months. Many more Americans have been killed in Iraq than were killed in the first 45 months of our war in Vietnam. I was in the U.S. Air Force in 1965, and I remember well when President Johnson announced a troop surge in Vietnam to hasten victory. That war went on for another decade, and by the time we finally got out 60,000 Americans had died. God knows we should have gotten out ten years earlier. "Troop surge" meant serious escalation."

Also this speech available on youtube back in 2003!

Hillary's status as front-runner slipping in key states

By Donald Lambro
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
Published January 11, 2007

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's popularity in Democratic presidential-preference polls has fallen in the nation's first caucus and primary states in the face of increasing support for her chief rivals for the 2008 nomination.
Pollsters said her weaknesses in Iowa and New Hampshire were the result of the growing popularity of two major opponents -- former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama -- and their populist economic messages, as well as a deepening antipathy toward her among Democratic-leaning independents who dislike her support for the war in Iraq and who question her electability.

Yes, Bush and Company are driven by greed, but I saw an additional element in Bush yesterday. He was scared, and doing his best to convince us that he is sincere and full of gravitas. He couldn't even give his speech live which is a first (I think) in a speech that's so important.

Today Condi is talking about it being Al Maliki's fault because the US is only doing what the Iraqi government has asked us to do. So if we support them it's all our true leader's genius, but if we don't then it's the fault of someone, anyone, else. After all, aren't they an elected sovereign government?

Judith Says:

Paul Levy: first part. I’ll post the rest in subsequent posts:

BUSH: POSSESSED BY THE COMPULSION TO DESTROY
By Paul Levy

I have to confess – there’s a part of me that’s sick of writing about George Bush. And yet, his mental derangement is so interesting that I find myself continually wanting to unfold what it is showing us. I see no reason whatsoever to not try and illumine the malignant pathology that is animating him, especially because it is having such an undeniable impact on all of us. If we want to understand Bush’s sickness, all we need to do is contemplate what he is acting out on the world stage, and realize that, just like a dream, it is symbolically expressing what is going on inside of him. Understanding more and more deeply the psychological roots of what Bush is acting out on the world stage only serves to empower us in dealing with him.

The figure of George Bush is “symbolically” reflecting something back to us about ourselves. Symbols are the language of dreams. Seen as a figure in a dream – a part of ourselves – that we have all collaboratively dreamed up into materialization, Bush is none other than an embodied reflection of a deep unconscious, wounded and pathological part of ourselves. Seen as our dream character who is ultimately not separate from ourselves, the figure of Bush is symbolically expressing a process that is going on deep within the collective soul of humanity. The figure of George W. Bush has been dreamed up by us to embody the ignorant, sick, and mad part of ourselves so clearly that it is as if he is a revelation, in human form, of these pathological parts of ourselves.

For those of us who would say that to see Bush as our dream character is “crazy,” I only have to point out that to not see Bush as our dream character means to see him as an independently existing being who is separate from ourselves and the field around him. As all spiritual wisdom traditions make clear, to relate to any part of the universe as existing in isolation from the rest of the universe is not only not in alignment with the interdependent and interconnected seamless nature of reality, but is a perspective that is itself both a cause as well as an expression of genuine insanity.

Once we recognize that Bush’s pathology is a reflection of something in ourselves, the pathology within ourselves becomes available to be transformed through bringing it to the light of consciousness. Recognizing Bush’s illness as our own is to instantaneously initiate a change in ourselves towards greater wholeness and integration. Because of the primacy of his role, we are being asked by the universe to recognize something which is being reflected back by, in and through the figure of George Bush. Seen as a mass shared dream that we are all collaboratively co-creating, we have dreamed up Bush as a symbol so as to see, and hence, heal this sick part of ourselves. The figure of Bush is what I call a “lucidity stimulator,” in that once we recognize what he symbolically re-presents in ourselves, we have woken up to a more expansive, healed and whole part of ourselves.

What I am pointing at needs some clarification so as to get it in focus. Once we see what I am pointing at, however, everything changes. There is a deeper, archetypal process that is re-presenting itself all throughout the underlying unified and unifying field of consciousness. This is to say that there is a deeper, underlying process that, like a fractal, is expressing itself in multiple dimensions or channels simultaneously – collectively in the outer world, within ourselves, and through certain people such as Bush who fully embody this deeper process. Bush has become so unconsciously subsumed by this deeper dynamic that he can be said to be a living incarnation of this deeper, archetypal process in human form. Just like His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who is considered to be an “incarnation” of the bodhisattva of compassion “Avalokitesvara,” so embodies the quality of compassion that he can be said to be the incarnation of this quality in human form, Bush can be said to be just the opposite: an incarnation in human form of an illness that exists deep within the collective soul of humanity.

The Kucinich Plan For Iraq

By Dennis Kucinich

01/10/07 "Information Clearing House" -- -- In November of 2006, after an October upsurge in violence in Iraq, the American people moved decisively to reject Republican rule, principally because of the conduct of the war. Democratic leaders well understand we regained control of the Congress because of the situation in Iraq. However, two months later, the Congress is still searching for a plan around which it can unite to hasten the end of US involvement in Iraq and the return home of 140,000 US troops.

check out Mother Jones Journal online and the article saying that Kissinger is behind this....and comparing this to how Kissenger engineered the Gulf of Tonkin incident to look like a win in Vietnam...http://www.motherjones.com/washington_dispatch/2007/01/kissinger_ploy.html
As usual, observers are grasping wildly for an explanations as to why Bush is doing what he's doing. No matter what one thinks of the President, when push comes to shove, it's hard to believe he really wants to drag out the war so it can be handed over to a successor in 2008; or that he is such a psycho he can't stop referring to defeat as victory. That's not the kind of stuff the Bush family legacy is made of.

There may well be a much more sinister game plan here, one that centers around the emergence of Henry Kissinger over the last year as an adviser to Bush and other top officials in Washington. Gareth Porter, the historian who ran the Indochina Resource Center in the early 70s, points out in a January 11 article in Asia Online that "although he knows very little about how to deal with Sunnis and Shi'ites, Kissinger does know how to convey to the public the illusion of victory, even though the U.S. position in the war is actually weak and unstable."

The Real Disaster
The New York Times | Editorial

Thursday 11 January 2007

President Bush told Americans last night that failure in Iraq would be a disaster. The disaster is Mr. Bush's war, and he has already failed. Last night was his chance to stop offering more fog and be honest with the nation, and he did not take it.

Americans needed to hear a clear plan to extricate United States troops from the disaster that Mr. Bush created. What they got was more gauzy talk of victory in the war on terrorism and of creating a "young democracy" in Iraq. In other words, a way for this president to run out the clock and leave his mess for the next one.

Mr. Bush did acknowledge that some of his previous tactics had failed. But even then, the president sounded as if he were an accidental tourist in Iraq. He described the failure of last year's effort to pacify Baghdad as if the White House and the Pentagon bore no responsibility.

In any case, Mr. Bush's excuses were tragically inadequate. The nation needs an eyes-wide-open recognition that the only goal left is to get the U.S. military out of this civil war in a way that could minimize the slaughter of Iraqis and reduce the chances that the chaos Mr. Bush unleashed will engulf Iraq's neighbors.

War with Iran is imminent

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted: January 8, 2007
1:00 a.m. Eastern

In addition to moving additional military forces into the region, President Bush is putting into place a new political and military command team, all in preparation for an expanded war in the Middle East.
We have already noted that the USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) aircraft carrier battle group is heading to the Persian Gulf to join the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) aircraft carrier battle group currently on station there.

Additionally, the USS Boxer (LHD 4) amphibious assault ship, the flagship of the Boxer Expeditionary Strike Group, is on station in the Persian Gulf. On January 4, 2007, the USS Bataan (LHD 5), the command ship of the Bataan Expeditionary Strike Group, departed from Norfolk, Va., headed for forward deployment. Typically, we would expect the USS Bataan to replace the USS Boxer in normal rotation. Even if that is the destination of the USS Bataan, we would have two amphibious strike forces in the Gulf as the rotation is completed.

President's back-up plan: blame Iran

Simon Tisdall
Friday January 12, 2007
The Guardian

If George Bush's remodelled strategy for halting the Iraq disaster fails to work, it is becoming clear where the US administration will point the finger of blame: Tehran. For some months Washington has been moving aggressively on a range of fronts to "pin back" Iran, in Tony Blair's words. But Mr Bush's Iraq policy speech on Wednesday night marked the opening of a new, far more aggressive phase which could extend the conflict into Iranian territory for the first time since the 2003 invasion.

". . . the decision by Lieberman, the new chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, to back away from the committee's Katrina probe is already dismaying public-interest groups and others who hoped the Democratic victory in November would lead to more aggressive investigations of one of the White House's most spectacular foul-ups.

Last year, when he was running for re-election in Connecticut, Lieberman was a vocal critic of the administration's handling of Katrina. He was especially dismayed by its failure to turn over key records that could have shed light on internal White House deliberations about the hurricane, including those involving President Bush.

Asserting that there were "too many important questions that cannot be answered," Lieberman and other committee Democrats complained in a statement last year that the panel "did not receive information or documents showing what actually was going on in the White House."

Among the missing material: the record of a videoconference in the White House Situation Room in which former Federal Emergency Management Agency chief Michael Brown said he warned senior officials about the dire situation in New Orleans, but was greeted with "deafening silence." Also missing: records believed to include messages and conversations involving the president, Vice President Dick Cheney and their top aides during the days in late August and early September 2005 when the Katrina disaster was unfolding and thousands of city residents were flocking to overcrowded shelters and hanging onto rooftops awaiting rescue.

But now that he chairs the homeland panel - and is in a position to subpoena the records - Lieberman has decided not to pursue the material, according to Leslie Phillips, the senator's chief committee spokeswoman. "The senator now intends to focus his attention on the future security of the American people and other matters and does not expect to revisit the White House's role in Katrina," she told NEWSWEEK. . . "

The Peace Candidate for 2008

". . . All Clark is saying, is give peace a chance.

Two days ago, on Washington Post Radio, while speaking about the Middle East, Wes Clark had this exchange with the radio hosts:

"ANCHORWOMAN: Now we've fired things up, and there's so much violence between the Shia and Sunni that's spilled over actually, you know, outside of Iraq now into neighboring jurisdictions. We see fighting between Hezbullah and, and Hamas. I mean, i, it, how, how do we even begin to tackle all of that?

GENERAL WESLEY CLARK: Well, we can't begin to tackle it by adding to the violence. That should be our last resort-

ANCHORMAN: Well, you mention-

GENERAL WESLEY CLARK: -because, you know in the, in, in the world, when you kill people, their relatives don't like it. And in that part of the world-

ANCHORWOMAN: Mm hm.

GENERAL WESLEY CLARK: -they vow revenge, and so if you, you may have to use force, but it should be the last option."

. . . Clark said this, while campaigning for Democrats in New Hampshire in October of 2006:

"We're being set up again, just like we were with Iraq, and what I've found in my life is, generally that if you want a war, you can have one.

Most people are about equally brave, most people will fight. Most people love their families, they love their homes, they believe that whatever they believe in is the single one way to truth, reconciliation and the after life, and most people will fight for it. Most people are not philosophical about it, and whether you're walking into a bar in New York City after the Red Sox have played the Yankees, or whether you're dealing with the Bosnians and the Serbs, or whether you're talking about Christians and Iranians.

People will fight for what they believe in. So if we want a war with a billion Muslims, we can probably have one. I don't think we want one, we certainly don't need one, and we should do everything we can to prevent it."

Looking back at my youth, you can call me a former hippie if you want, but no one will ever say that about General Wesley Clark. First in his class at West Point, the man was a soldier through and through. Naive, and Four Star General, are mutually exclusive terms. Wes Clark understands the use of force, he accepts that a time can come when force is the only realistic option left. Wes Clark never shies away from force out of fear. No, he shies away from force, whenever possible, out of wisdom. . . "

It's quite a good opinion piece by a guy from Australia...

My observations are obviously pick off Iran (which has enormous oil reserves) then Syria then you have a situation where you are surrounded by countries you've either subjugated or are your allies (Turkey and Saudia Arabia - yeah right, Saudia Arabia, an ally).

This map says a lot...

Now, Pat C & everybody else... there is NOTHING wrong with a resume which has "hippie" (altho I understand that was a dismissive corpo word) on it! In fact, one should be quite proud of the willingness to buck the system as it was then (AND... as it is now). I'm a very proud SF Flower Child as it shows me attuned to the energies of the times... & there's not a thing wrong with Peace, Love... AND "Make Love not War." Bygolly, that is exactly the thing to do with kundalini that's been squelched, cinched, squeezed, & made to be deformed in the service of violence. With committed relationship, it's the best ever. My son & all his friends have been forever envious that I got to "do" that special time. I will never be even a smidge apologetic about "The Sixties!" http://thinkprogress.org/2006/07/06/susan-dudley/

Bush Nominates Anti-Regulatory Zealot To Head ‘Super-Powerful’ Public Safety Office President Bush is expected to nominate Susan Dudley as the next head of an obscure but “super-powerful office that oversees many business regulations.” The Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs holds sway over federal regulatory agencies like the EPA and helps set regulatory policy for a wide range of issues, from workplace safety to water quality.

The most recent head, John Graham, has “demonstrated consistent hostility to protections for public health, safety and the environment over his career.” And according to Frank O’Donnell of Clean Air Watch, Dudley “makes John Graham look like Ralph Nader.”

As the director of regulatory studies at the industry-backed Mercatus Center she has worked to oppose vital public health regulation as a “hidden tax” that hinders profits. Some of her targets:

– Opposed EPA plans to set tougher public health standards for smog.

– Opposed lower-polluting cars and SUVs and cleaner gasoline.

– Opposed air bags in cars, preferring to leave public safety decisions “to the market place.”

– Opposed stronger regulations for arsenic in drinking water, claming that there “is a wide range of uncertainty in the science surrounding the health effects of arsenic in U.S. drinking water supplies.”

– Opposed measures to curb global warming, stating that the “evidence regarding global warming and human contribution to it is mixed, and…if a slight warming does occur, historical evidence suggests it is likely to be beneficial, occurring at night, in the winter, and at the poles. Taking ‘precautionary action’ to protect human health based on a series of tenuous linkages would likely create a new set of risks.”

Not surprisingly, Exxon Mobil has donated $80,000 to Dudley’s think tank.

UPDATE: The global warming document that opposed measures to curb global warming was written by a Mercatus colleague of Susan Dudley, not by Dudley herself. We regret the error.

Land of Enchantment and Impeachment

Saturday, 13 January 2007
by David Swanson

There is a decent chance that within the next month or two the New Mexico State Legislature will ask the U.S. House of Representatives to begin impeachment proceedings against President Bush and Vice President Cheney. And there is the definite possibility that a Congress Member from New Mexico will take up the matter when it gets to Washington. The Jefferson Manual, rules used by the U.S. House, allows for impeachment to be begun in this manner. It only takes one state legislature. No governor is needed. One Congress Member, from the same state or any other, is needed to essentially acknowledge receipt of the state's petition. Then impeachment begins.

Last year the state legislatures of California, Minnesota, Illinois, and Vermont introduced but did not pass resolutions to send impeachment to the U.S. House. The State Senator who introduced the bill in Minnesota is now a member of Congress, Keith Ellison. He is one of many Congress Members waiting for the right moment to impeach Bush and Cheney. The state of New Jersey has a strong activist movement working to introduce and pass impeachment this year. There's a race now to see which state can do it first, which state can redeem these United States in the eyes of the world. New Mexico is jumping into the contest in a big way, with a terrific leading sponsor of the bill, strong Democatic majorities in both houses, and a citizens' movement ready to hold its government to account.

Of course, it is cities, not states, that have really taken the lead on impeachment, as on ending the war. Dozens of cities have already passed resolutions for impeachment. Dozens more have introduced them, and they are pending. A handful have introduced them and voted them down. On March 6th about 100 towns in Vermont will vote at public meetings for impeachment. But by March 6th, impeachment may already be underway.

- snip -

Daniel Ellsberg, who released the Pentagon Papers so many years ago, recently argued that it was only the pressure of the peace movement that allowed the impeachment of President Nixon to proceed, and that it was only the exposures and threat of impeachment that persuaded Nixon not to veto the bill that finally cut off the funding for the Vietnam War. As Congress exposes the crimes of Bush and Cheney to public view, it will move us closer to impeachment. As Congress Members begin to object to their powerless role of court jesters, they will move us closer to impeachment and also to bringing our troops home.

- snip -

In New Mexico, a leading light of that state's politics, State Senator Gerald Ortiz y Pino of Albuquerque, will be leading the way on impeachment. He deserves the support of all the world, and you can thank him at jortizyp@aol.com or 505-986-4380. Let's help him make New Mexico the land of enchantment and impeachment.

Pentagon memo predicts 10,000 or more American soldiers could die in Iraq by 2008

January 12, 2007 6:27 AM

Pentagon planners this week warned President George W. Bush that his "troop surge" plan could double U.S. casualties in Iraq in the coming year and result in 10,000 or more American deaths by the end of 2008.

In a classified assessment memo, military experts predicted violence against U.S. troops will increase "at a sustained pace" and concluded that increasing the use of soldiers for house to house searches in Baghdad will "dramatically alter" the "ratio of casualties to actions" in that civil-war torn city, says a military source familiar with the memo.

The Pentagon report admitted battle weary soldiers are more prone to mistakes that lead to casualties and noted that military personnel sent to Iraq for third and possibly fourth tours increase the odds that those soldiers will become casualties of war.

The memo concluded that American military deaths could top 6,000 by the end of 2007 and exceed 10,000 or more in 2008 with more than 100,000 wounded and/or maimed for life.

A BUZZFLASH GUEST CONTRIBUTION
by Danny Schechter News Dissector, Mediachannel.org

New York, New York: In the aftermath of President Bush's prime-time war cry for escalation from the White House Library, the network newscasters were skeptical about his chances for success but seemed to be impressed by his willingness to stand up for what they think he believes, like some lone but gutsy hero on the prairie.
Much of the commentary deals with him as the beleaguered leader standing strong against public opinion but doing what he feels he had to do. The subtext was you just have to admire that man. This is the very positioning his image managers cultivated.

The focus was on one man speaking to one camera, standing alone in a library, a White House room you had a sense with which he was unfamiliar, speaking to the teleprompter, reading someone else's words with as much well-practiced conviction as he could muster. The tone was reasonable because of his many claims of having listened to advice from his team and even his critics.

* Breaking Conformity

The US govt can be just as corrupt & backward as any other.

It always amuses me how [USians] can be very wise & skeptical when it comes to other govts, but always give extremely generous explanations for apparently hideous actions that US politicians commit. Sorry folks, it doesn’t work that way. When we invade a country because of alleged WMD, & then we stay even tho the weapons don’t turn up, then we’ve been an aggressor nation. Yup, we just took over another country on the basis of lies. When other countries do that, [USians] cry foul.

Still think the US is qualitatively better than all those nasty other regimes? Still think the [USian] people are a cut above? Then how do you explain this? In 1963, the US had a military coup, in which the elected president was murdered & replaced by one of his subordinates.

The ensuing cover-up was so palpably false that anyone who deigns to read up on the subject must realize the govt has systematically lied to us all these decades. For those who would like a good starting point, I recommend Mark Lane’s classic Rush to Judgment. If just one of his major points is true-—for example, the APB on Oswald going out before the police could possibly have “learned” the description-—then the official Warren Commission report is a bunch of garbage.

Use your common sense, folks. Your govt lies to you every day. If just a few of us started pointing this out, everyone else would soon admit the obvious as well. ... http://www.strike-the-root.com/71/hoyt/hoyt1.html

US strikes on al-Qa'ida chiefs kill nomads
By Anne Penketh and Steve Bloomfield
Published: 13 January 2007

The herdsmen had gathered with their animals around large fires at night to ward off mosquitoes. But lit up by the flames, they became latest victims of America's war on terror.

It was their tragedy to be misidentified in a secret operation by special forces attempting to kill three top al-Qa'ida leaders in south-ern Somalia.

[snip]
The operation, which opened a new front in Washington's anti-terror campaign, seems to have backfired spectacularly in the five days since it was launched. In addition to the scores of Somali civilians killed, the simmering civil war in the failed state has been rekindled.

* Grab Hold of Reality & Take Her[?!?!] for a Spin

...Why is the American genocide in the Middle East considered a good/noble endeavor simply because US politicians don't wear turbans or call it a jihad?

Why is it OK to kill countless people with state sanction, but it is considered beyond rude for me to ask a soldier just exactly how many people he has killed? It’s a simple question. If I’m paying someone via tax dollars to perform a task, isn’t it appropriate to ask that person just exactly how well he did the job? Not here in the land of delusion!

It’s not nice to talk about people dying, esp if we intentionally killed them. That soldier might feel uncomfortable if he had to actually say out loud, "I killed dozens of people." Or "I killed 100s of people." That's the stuff of gruesome headlines, not everyday conversation in middle class America. Stunningly, it is business as usual in Wash. It will continue as long as there is a conspiracy of silence/delusion in our fear-based culture. It goes a long way in explaining the PTSD experienced by many ex-military personnel, but it's not nice to mention sick vets in polite conversation, either.

Conversely, the strangers who have been killed by that soldier feel nothing. I imagine the families of the killed Iraqis/Afghans feel something, but again, it's not nice to talk about this. If we did, perhaps no one would show up for our next war, & that just wouldn't do! ... http://www.strike-the-root.com/71/fontana/fontana3.html

Baghdad Morgue Took 16, 000 Bodies in 2006
By REUTERS
Filed at 10:04 a.m. ET

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The Baghdad morgue took in about 16,000 unidentified bodies last year, the bulk of them victims of death squads and other sectarian violence, a source at the morgue told Reuters on Sunday.

About 1,350 bodies were received in December, the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the Iraqi government has banned officials from releasing data on casualty rates. As throughout the year, between 80 and 85 percent of these were victims of violence.

The morgue data -- for Baghdad only -- suggest that a figure of 12,320 civilian deaths in ``terrorist violence'' in 2006, given two weeks ago by Interior Ministry sources, does not include all the victims of the bloodletting in Iraq. The Interior Ministry statistics exclude violent deaths classed as ''criminal.''

Since the morgue statistics also do not take account of the many deaths outside Baghdad, nor indeed of all violent deaths in the capital, the total death toll is certainly higher.

A Health Ministry official told the Washington Post last week that nearly 23,000 civilians and police were killed in the year, according to Health Ministry data. A deputy minister said he could not confirm the figures.

The Interior Ministry said 1,231 policemen were killed.

The United Nations has added Health Ministry data for the country as a whole to Baghdad morgue figures to come up with figures showing 3,700 civilians were killed in October alone -- or about 120 people a day.

The Iraqi government has called that an exaggeration but given no comparable official figures of its own. No U.N. data are yet available for the period since October.

While the total death toll remains disputed, no officials challenge the indications given by various sets of data that killings have increased markedly in the past year, notably since the destruction of a major Shi'ite shrine in February.

The Interior Ministry figures showed three and a half times more civilian deaths in December than in January.

No data were available for November, but in October the morgue took in about 1,600 bodies, down from a peak of 1,815 in July.

Mine is almost appropriate since I am a troublemaker, but sometimes I feel more like Mangle Saturn*itch describes me better.

Your fairy is called Tangle Saturnwitch
She is a trouble maker.
She lives at the bottom of tangled gardens and in hedgerows.
She is only seen in the enchanted moment between sleep and waking.
She wears tangled dresses of multicoloured petals. She has delicate pale pink wings like a cicada.

Op-Ed Columnist

He’s in the Bunker Now

By FRANK RICH
PRESIDENT BUSH always had one asset he could fall back on: the self-confidence of a born salesman. Like Harold Hill in “The Music Man,” he knew how to roll out a new product, however deceptive or useless, with conviction and stagecraft. What the world saw on Wednesday night was a defeated Willy Loman who looked as broken as his war. His flop sweat was palpable even if you turned down the sound to deflect despair-inducing phrases like “Prime Minister Maliki has pledged ...” and “Secretary Rice will leave for the region. ...”

Mr. Bush seemed to know his product was snake oil, and his White House handlers did too. In the past, they made a fetish of situating their star in telegenic settings, from aircraft carriers to Ellis Island. Or they placed him against Orwellian backdrops shrieking “Plan for Victory." But this time even the audio stuttered, as if in solidarity with Baghdad’s continuing electricity blackout, and the Oval Office was ditched, lest it summon up memories of all those past presidential sightings of light at the end of the Iraqi tunnel. Mr. Bush was banished to the White House library, where the backdrop was acres of books, to signify the studiousness of his rethinking of the “way forward.”

"I’m not going to be rushed," the president said a month ago when talking about his many policy consultations. He wasn’t kidding. His ostentatious deep thinking started after Election Day, once he realized that firing Donald Rumsfeld wouldn’t be enough to co-opt the Iraq Study Group. He was thinking so hard that he abandoned his initial plan to announce a strategy before Christmas .

Black hole discoveries go beyond Einstein
New NASA project hopes to further unravel galactic mystery

- Marc Kaufman, Washington Post
Sunday, January 14, 2007

It wasn't all that long ago that black holes existed only in the realm of theory, a space- and mind-bending musing of Albert Einstein, who posited the existence of objects in the universe so dense that even light could not escape them. Even after scientists began to accept several decades ago that these exotic and powerful objects were not the stuff of science fiction, they still knew virtually nothing about them.

Over the past 10 years, however, black holes have moved to the center of the world of astrophysics, leading to a steady flow of discoveries that have begun to answer, or at least better describe, some of their mysteries.

"We're now in a golden age for black hole astrophysics," said J. Craig Wheeler of the University of Texas, who is president of the American Astronomical Society. "How they form, how they behave, their role in the formation of new galaxies. They're all very hot topics."

Scooter Libby goes on trial on Jan 16. I assume it's at whatever time the courthouse opens in the federal courthouse in Washington DC.

Mars enters Capricorn that day and is also square to the 0 Aries Point. Venus is semi-square to the 0 Aries Point

Eric Francis says about Aries Point:
"when there is much activity on or near these points -- as there has been lately, and will be for a while -- we get an acceleration of experience, and news events that bring in a lot of people; and news events which everyone can feel and relate to.

We could call the Aries Point the One World Point, because it reminds us that we live in one world.

It is all rather cosmic, and also points us beyond life on Earth to something much larger: longer time scales than we're used to thinking in, the heart of our home galaxy, a great neighboring galaxy, and the point where the zodiac begins."

and....
"Events involving the Aries Point, or people with it prominent in their charts, have impact. Their lives can affect many people. They have a connection to the public and the public has a connection to them. This is the degree of the zodiac bearing the message, 'The personal is political'. By extension, the first degree of any of the cardinal signs -- Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, the degrees the Sun crosses on the first day of any new season -- have a similar feeling and effect. In recent years, the Aries Point axis has been popping up as particularly influential.

"It was directly involved in the Sept. 11 situation, which we now know is complex and deeply scandalous. This continued as the story developed over the years, including its demented morph into the Iraq war. And in a fairly strange twist, the Aries Point was directly involved in the Asian tsunami, which came at a Full Moon in the early degrees of Cancer and Capricorn." (Planet Waves, "At the Edge of the Stage")

"Deep Throat is a living testimony to the Aries Point... Among other things, we will see something come to full fruition that has its genesis at the Cancer solstice total solar eclipse of June 2001. We shall see what." (Astrology Secrets Revealed, June 3, 2005)

"The Aries Point [has] some unusual properties: public contact, a collective quality, the personalization of large events, and lasting effects through time among them. The example of an Aries point effect I've been using is the June 21, 2001 summer solstice total solar eclipse, which occurred in the first degree of Cancer, exactly square the Aries Point. The summer of 2001 is of course a time nobody who lived through it will forget, truly heralding the dawn of an era."

Here is my favorite comment.

"Transiting Pluto will soon be coming into the sign Capricorn which shows a possibility of a one government world ruled by corporations. We're starting to see the beginning of it now.
How much have you heard about the North American Union? It would combine Mexico, the United States and Canada. No one is asking the American people if they want this. The main thing is that commercial law would supercede our constitutional rights if it in any way holds back contractual trade agreements along with a super highway that starts in Mexico, by-passing the ports in California and no security checks done in the US, just in Mexico. It runs straight up through the middle of the US to Canada in order to make trade faster and easier mainly with China. Balanced trade is a lot different than free trade. NAFTA saw to that by getting rid of a lot of the tariffs.
With the 3 countries laws to choose from, the elites can cherry pick the laws they like and ignore the one's that don't make them a lot of profit and there's nothing we can do about it. We are supposed to be a nation run by the Constitution, bill of rights and laws, not a king, this is not a good thing for us. I'm sure that Canada isn't very happy about it either. Can anyone say fascism?
The elite don't give a crap about the people that they are exploiting, they are just a means to an end and a way to keep the rest of us under their control by price fixing our wages. It's called creating a caste society.
I wonder how our congress would feel if they came to work and found they had been downsized and outsourced to the lowest bidder and were told, "well they're just doing the job that you don't want to do, because you only show up a couple days a week." And by the way, now there is no lifetime insurance benefits or retirement plan for you. I bet they would see things completely differently."

US military strike on Iran seen by April ’07

Sea-launched attack to hit oil, N-sites

By Ahmed Al-Jarallah
Editor-in-Chief, the Arab Times

01/14/07 "Arab Times" -- - KUWAIT CITY: Washington will launch a military strike on Iran before April 2007, say sources. The attack will be launched from the sea and Patriot missiles will guard all oil-producing countries in the region, they add. Recent statements emanating from the United States indicate the Bush administration’s new strategy for Iraq doesn’t include any proposal to make a compromise or negotiate with Syria or Iran. A reliable source said President Bush recently held a meeting with Vice President Dick Cheney, Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Secretary of State Dr Condoleezza Rice and other assistants in the White House where they discussed the plan to attack Iran in minute detail.

According to the source, Vice President Dick Cheney highlighted the threat posed by Iran to not only Saudi Arabia but the whole region. “Tehran is not playing politics. Iranian leaders are using their country’s religious influence to support the aggressive regime’s ambition to expand,” the source quoted Dick Cheney as saying. Indicating participants of the meeting agreed to impose restrictions on the ambitions of Iranian regime before April 2007 without exposing other countries in the region to any danger, the source said “they have chosen April as British Prime Minister Tony Blair has said it will be the last month in office for him. The United States has to take action against Iran and Syria before April 2007.”

Claiming the attack will be launched from the sea and not from any country in the region, he said “the US and its allies will target the oil installations and nuclear facilities of Iran ensuring there is no environmental catastrophe or after effects.” “Already the US has started sending its warships to the Gulf and the build-up will continue until Washington has the required number by the end of this month,” the source said. “US forces in Iraq and other countries in the region will be protected against any Iranian missile attack by an advanced Patriot missile system.”

He went on to say “although US Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Secretary of State Dr Condoleezza Rice suggested postponing the attack, President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney insisted on attacking Tehran without any negotiations based on the lesson they learnt in Iraq recently.” The Bush administration believes attacking Iran will create a new power balance in the region, calm down the situation in Iraq and pave the way for their democratic project, which had to be suspended due to the interference of Tehran and Damascus in Iraq, he continued. The attack on Iran will weaken the Syrian regime, which will eventually fade away, the source said.

I was struck once again on the utterly strange anomaly of condoleezza rice. What IS a condoleezza rice? Why would a "black" female be so associated with a batch of really evil pink supremacist boyz? I have never heard anything that rings true except ties because of mutual participation in the gay criminal underworld.

Then, too, it really could be an ET lizard wearing a rubber rice mask... you think?

Beyond the Call to Surge, the Need to Purge Our Media

by Danny Schechter

In the aftermath of President Bush's prime-time war cry for escalation from the White House Library, the network newscasters were skeptical about his chances for success but seemed to be impressed by his willingness to stand up for what they think he believes, like some lone but gutsy hero on the prairie.

Much of the commentary deals with him as the beleaguered leader standing strong against public opinion but doing what he feels he had to do. The subtext was you just have to admire that man This is the very positioning his image managers cultivated.

Bush Must Go

Only Impeachment Can Stop Him

By Paul Craig Roberts

01/15/07 "Information Clearing House" -- - When are the American people and their representatives in Congress and the military going to wake up and realize that the US has an insane war criminal in the White House who is destroying all chances for peace in the world and establishing a police state in the US?

Americans don’t have much time to realize this and to act before it is too late. Bush’s “surge” speech last Wednesday night makes it completely clear that his real purpose is to start wars with Iran and Syria before failure in Iraq brings an end to the neoconservative/Israeli plan to establish hegemony over the Middle East.

The “surge” gives Congress, the media, and the foreign policy establishment something to debate and oppose, while Bush sets his plans in motion to orchestrate a war with Iran. Suddenly, we are hearing Bush regime propaganda that there are Iranian networks operating within Iraq that are working with the Iraqi insurgency and killing US troops.

* NGOs to sue US over WMD claims

SOME 30 non-govtal orgs in Niger said overnight they are going to sue the US for nearly two billion dollars for "unfairly accusing" Niger of selling uranium to the late Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein. "Our lawyers are about to file a lawsuit against the US calling for damages of about 1000 billion CFA francs ($2.42 billion dollars) for the harm suffered" by the country, Moustapha Kadi, president of the Collective of orgs in Niger defending the right to energy (CODDAE).

The lawsuit by the collective will be filed at either French or Belgian courts, Kadi added.
In Jan 2003, US [rotten-rez] accused Saddam of having bought uranium from Niger to make WMD.
The Niger collective said in a statement that investigations by the Internatl Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), world media & US officials, all concluded that it was a "false accusation" against Niger.

That false info was used by bush "to invade Iraq," said the collective's statement, which also called for support from Niger's President Mamadou Tandja, who back in 2003 said the US allegations were "harming Niger's image".

Niger is the world's 3rd-largest producer of uranium with about 9% of the global market, according to 2003 figures. I don't want this to seem maudlin or emotional, because I don't mean this to be, but my mother passed away at around 2:12 this afternoon....after 3 weeks of just terrible pain, despite morphine, etc.

I am happy for her to be at peace finally....

What is interesting astrologically might interest all of you, too. She was born with Mercury conj. the North Node at 16 Gemini, and my Sun/Saturn natally is at 16 Gemini. I was her only child....

She died today with the ascendant at 16 Gemini in her death chart. I swear she planned it....I was there with her, after 10 days of vigil. Yesterday she said: I am working hard here, I am working hard....

Last month she said, around Dec 15: I dreamed this morning I am going to start a new life. She was completely lucid telling me this, then slipped back into her old confusion.

I say we all have a plan....she seemed to have one!

Hi folks! sorry I've been away so long. Chronic sinus infection on top of CFS for 5 months now! Enough whining and on to business.

If you try to follow the money you will see the US Dollar is being routed around more and more, but especially where oil is concerned. In the past all oil purchases and most commodity purchases had to be made in dollars, so everyone needed dollars which kept it strong. Strong dollars were also held by the gazillions by most central banks, as a reserve, because it was strong. So, now that the dollar (read as the private bank known as the Federal Reserve) has everyone by the balls it can be inflated/printed at will. As you can imagine, pretty soon many people (other banks) did not enjoy having the value of their reserve dollars shrink. So a faction of bankers said to the US dollar, I'm gonna get you sucker!!! And are attempting to do so now. So the Fed and their buddies in the military/oil industrial complex set to defend, aggressively; using USA boys and girls as fodder........Some of you may recall my posts about how organizations fail. 1. Idea people create something great. 2. Process people turn ideas into processes. 3. (the killers) turn processes into rules. (Fascism BTW) This effect is prevented if the ideas which started the organization are kept alive. When the US was started it was to create something better than the opression experienced in Europe and elsewhere. Well irony is smiling, because when the house of cards finishes falling down, and US citizens find out The Fed is the crowd behind the curtain, and is largely owned by citizens of Europe, a Constitutional revitalization will be very blog featured.....As long as US citizens had jobs and money the maintenance of government was ignored in favor of consumerism sponsored by the FED. The latest FED sponsored consumerism was housing. I believe it was the NY Times which estimated 2.2 million homes would be foreclosed on in 2007 through 2008. In people terms that is in the neighborhood of 10 million people....My 2 inflated cents, Timmy J

And Ewards never said a word against Hillary!

And Senator Clinton's campaign team seemed to think she resembled these remarks; after the speech, one of her closest advisers, Howard Wolfson, complained to The New York Times that "In 2004 John Edwards used to constantly brag about running a positive campaign. Today, he has unfortunately chosen to open his campaign with political attacks on Democrats who are fighting the Bush administration's Iraq policy.''

Time to remove a dictator

By DOUG THOMPSON / January 15, 2007 7:53 AM

Enough of this pussyfooting: It's time to impeach.

Not just Bush: Bush and Cheney. Both belong behind bars, not just for high crimes and misdemeanors against the Constitution of the United States but for war crimes and murder on an international scale. Try them in the Senate and then ship them to the Hague to be tried as war criminals and for the deaths of each American soldier and Iraqi civilian in their illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq.

But let's not stop there: Arrest Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld as co-conspirators in a plot to destroy the Democratic Republic of the United States of America. Add, as fellow conspirators, every member of Congress who voted to authorize Bush's dirty little war and who voted for the rights-robbing USA Patriot Act the fist time around and/or extension of that vile law the second time.

Obama Takes 1st Step in Presidential Bid

Jan 16 11:06 AM US/Eastern

By NEDRA PICKLER
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Democratic Sen. Barack Obama said Tuesday he is taking the initial step in a presidential bid that could make him the nation's first black to occupy the White House.
Obama announced on his Web site, http://www.barackobama.com , that he was filing a presidential exploratory committee. He said he would announce more about his plans in his home state of Illinois on Feb. 10.

"I certainly didn't expect to find myself in this position a year ago," Obama said in a video posting. "I've been struck by how hungry we all are for a different kind of politics. So I've spent some time thinking about how I could best advance the cause of change and progress that we so desperately need."

So he came up with he should be president. Well... perhaps so, perhaps not. And btw, he's NOT black, he's tan-brown... a color pinks spend countless dollars to obtain by disappearing frequently into commercial tanning coffins. ;O)

Escalation Against Iran

The Pieces Are Being Put in Place

By Col. Sam Gardner

01/16/07 "Counterpunch" -- -- The pieces are moving. They’ll be in place by the end of February. The United States will be able to escalate military operations against Iran.

snip

Just as Iran is supporting Hamas, two weeks ago we found out the United States is supporting arms for Abbas. Just as Iran and Syria are supporting Hezbollah in Lebanon we’re now learning the White House has approved a finding to allow the CIA to support opposition groups inside Lebanon. Just as Iran is supporting Syria, we’ve learned recently that the United States is going to fund Syrian opposition groups.

We learned this week the President authorized an attack on the Iranian liaison office in Irbil.

The White House keeps saying there are no plans to attack Iran. Obviously, the facts suggest otherwise. Equally as clear, the Iranians will read what the Administrations is doing not what it is
saying.

It is possible the White House strategy is just implementing a strategy to put pressure on Iran on a number of fronts, and this will never amount to anything. On the other hand, if the White House is on a path to strike Iran, we’ll see a few more steps unfold.

A 'poem' from the battlefront in Iraq - a must read

Where's the outrage?

A real antiwar movement would end our Iraq disaster. But the middle class doesn't care enough to protest, so the kids who go to community college will keep dying.

By Gary Kamiya

snip

In a poem titled "2000 lbs," Turner opens with a description of a suicide bomber in Mosul's Ashur Square, who is watching in his rearview mirror for a convoy. He writes of two men, an Iraqi taxi driver named Sefwan and an American Guardsman named Sgt. Ledouix, who are also in Ashur Square.

A flight of gold, that's what Sefwan thinks
as he lights a Miami, draws in the smoke
and waits in his taxi at the traffic circle.
He thinks of summer 1974, lifting
pitchforks of grain high in the air,
the slow drift of it like the fall of Shatha's hair,
and although it was decades ago, he still loves her,
remembers her standing at the canebrake
where the buffalo cooled shoulder-deep in the water,
pleased with the orange cups of flowers he brought her,
and he regrets how much can go wrong in a life,
how easily the years slip by, light as grain, bright
as the street's concussion of metal, shrapnel
traveling at the speed of sound to open him up
in blood and shock, a man whose last thoughts
are of love and wreckage, with no one there
to whisper him gone.

Sgt. Ledouix of the National Guard
speaks but cannot hear the words coming out,
and it's just as well his eardrums ruptured
because it lends the world a certain calm,
though the traffic circle is filled with people
running in panic, their legs a blur
like horses in a carousel, turning
and turning the way the tires spin
on the Humvee flipped to its side,
the gunner's hatch he was thrown from
a mystery to him now, a dark hole
in metal the color of sand, and if he could,
he would crawl back inside of it,
and though his fingertips scratch at the asphalt
he hasn't the strength to move:
shrapnel has torn into his ribcage
and he will bleed to death in minutes,
but he finds himself surrounded by a strange
beauty, the shine of light on the broken,
a woman's hand touching his face, tenderly
the way his wife might, amazed to find
a wedding ring on his crushed hand,
the bright gold sinking in flesh
going to bone.

Hi, all, thank you for your good wishes for me and for my mother...I appreciate all of it.

One of the ways I get thru this is going to the astro aspects, and this morning I found another one that amazed me. I had bought a book on eclipses by Celest Teal, and done some data entry last week recording dates, eclipses etc. for my family. I have to thank Sally for writing about eclipses in the first place, sparking my interest.

My dad died 9/11/1960 between a lunar/solar pair of eclipses...the Lunar at 13 Pisces and the Solar afterwards on 9/20, I think, at 28 Virgo. My Mom died after the pair of eclipses in September of 2006....which was 15 Pisces Lunar, 29 Virgo Solar. So they died on the same pair of eclipses 46 years apart....I think it is a wonderful confirmation of the underlying music of the spheres....

JudiGem, I lost my Mom Christmas morning 2005. She was courageous and ready for new adventure like your Mom. She told me the day before she was not afraid, but rather quite curious about the whole thing! Venus was retrograde, so I believe she was ready to visit her loved ones on the other side!!

It gives me hope that I could also face the inevitable with joy and wonder.

When my mother passed on, uranus was exact on my 8th hse cusp & the ascendant of the death chart was exact sign/degree of my natal ascendant. What are the odds for that?!?!? She'd already said she didn't want anybody thinking about her after the memorial service... just LEAVE HER ALONE!! She/dad weren't getting along so hot for years.

Posted by: JoannaOregon on January 17, 2007 02:05 AM

I was really hoping I would hear some good astro stories like that Joanna, and thanks Laurie, that is a wonderful story, and that is how I look at death, a wonderful adventure....a friend just sent a book called Dreaming Beyond Death, so I will hop into the book and see what the stories say. My Mom didn't talk about dying at all...nor did I talk about it to her...she was always afraid of it. She really struggled physically and was in so much pain...it just isn't fair to get that old and go like that.

Joanna, my mom was just like yours....she told the Vicar, a woman vicar from a local Episcopal church I called in to GET AWAY...she never did like mopey funerals....I don't know if the Vicar had had that happen before; I will be checking in with her soon.

More men and women and children dying in Iraq, as well as our troops....and boy, the amount passing right now has got to have something to do with the Mars/Pluto conjunction at the Galactic Center...a good time to go, I'd wager, but not how it is happening for the Middle East. This is really really awful.

* Questions and answers

Two things I have learned in my life:

1. If you have to ask the question, the answer is no.

and

2. If you don't know what to do, it's not yet time to make a decision. ...

---------------oOo---------------

Brightest comet in 70 years

Comet McNaught is the brightest comet visible from earth in a generation - at magnitude -5 it is the brightest comet since Ikeya-Seki in 1965 according to Universe Today. It is 6X bigger than Hale-Bopp in 1997 & 100X brighter than Halley's comet as it last appeared in 1986 according to NASA scientists.

Humans have been fascinated by comets for 1000s of years. Unlike planets, comets are unpredictable which led many cultures to believe that the gods were sending a message thru the comet. Not every single thing has meaning & significance, but it makes sense to me that if planets & stars have symbolic significance, & if Chiron, officially classified as both a comet & an asteroid, has meaning, then intermittent comets must have meaning as well. ...

Comet McNaught now visible in daylight!!

Comet McNaught is now visible in broad daylight. "It's fantastic," reports Wayne Winch of Bishop CA. "I put the sun behind a neighbor's house to block the glare & the comet popped right into view. You can even see the tail." ...

The Pluto process & the GC shift

With Mars conjunct Pluto & the GC this week there are a lot of theories about the significance, if any, of the GC shift. The spirituality boards are fired up & here are some of the things I've found: ...

---------------oOo---------------

Mars conjuncts Pluto and the G.C.

Mars is approaching a conjunction to Pluto which is still conjunct the Galactic Center. Any combination of Mars and Pluto can be explosive, since Mars is the god of action and war while Pluto is the god of death and the underworld.

The galactic center is the center of our galaxy, a point the ancient Mayans called the "Hunab Ku." The Mayans worshiped Hunab Ku as the Supreme Creator, the source of consciousness which organizes all matter. You may already know that the Mayan calendar describes the end of the 4th World in 2012. It seems likely that the conjunction of Pluto to the GC marks a turning point & a realignment of the destiny of our planet, just as it has thruout history. The addition here of Mars could provide the spark to the flame that speeds up the process. ... http://astrodynamics.blogspot.com/

When our parents die I believe that the part of us connecting us to them psychically is also removed from the physical body. At least that is how I remember it over 11 years ago when my mom diied. Part of the greiving process was realizing that my lethergy was about healing the gap when that psychic 'chunk' left. Also had a transcendental experience when she left, Without me thinking about it the mantra I use to meditate, Om Namah Shivaya flew up like a geyser from my first chakra up throught my spinal canal and out of the top of my head connecting me to the pulse of all. The mantra became a living thing and pulsed Om Namah Shivaya throughout the whole universe. Everything was the pulse and the mantra, the buildings, the river, the sky. There were no five senses, just he pulse which was the mantra. Weird but true. I knew my mom went someplace quite amazingly beautiful.

Robert Scheer

http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/20070116_robert_scheer_chuck_hagel_president/

Chuck Hagel for president! If it ever narrows down to a choice between him and some Democratic hack who hasn’t the guts to fundamentally challenge the president on Iraq, then the conservative Republican from Nebraska will have my vote. Yes, the war is that important, and the fact that Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York, the leading Democratic candidate, still can’t or won’t take a clear stand on the occupation is insulting to the vast majority of voters who have.

Sen. Hagel is a decorated Vietnam War vet who learned the crucial lessons of that Democrat-launched debacle of post-colonial imperialism. Even more important, he has the courage to challenge a president from his own party who so clearly didn’t.

“The speech given last night [Jan. 10] by this president represents the most dangerous foreign policy blunder in this country since Vietnam,” Hagel said. “We are projecting ourselves further and deeper into a situation that we cannot win militarily.

“To ask our young men and women to sacrifice their lives to be put in the middle of a civil war is wrong. It’s, first of all, in my opinion, morally wrong. It’s tactically, strategically, militarily wrong,” he added.

If Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, another Democratic darling, has uttered words of such clarifying dissent on the president’s disastrous course, then I haven’t heard them. Instead, too many leading Democratic politicians continue to act as if they fear that if they are forthright in opposing the war, they will appear weak, whether on national security or the protection of Israel, and so ignore the clear, strong voice of the American people that just revived their party’s fortunes.

Ever since President Ronald Reagan painted foreign policy as a simplistic war of good versus evil, the Republican Party has been in the thrall of neocon adventurers. Yet, the national emergence of Hagel reminds us that, two decades earlier, it was Dwight D. Eisenhower, a war hero and a Republican, who was the only president to clearly challenge the simplistic and jingoistic militarism that most Democrats embraced during the Cold War. It was Eisenhower, in fact, who refused to send troops to Vietnam, and his Democratic successors who opened the gates of war.

True conservatives, going back to George Washington, have always been wary of the “foreign entanglements” that our first general and president warned against in his farewell address. And it is in that spirit, recognizing the limits to U.S. military power, that Hagel spoke this past Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

bhakti, what a beautiful experience, and yes, Monday morning I awoke at 5 AM and said....my lower back pain is gone! This must be the day. And it was. When I got there just before she died (I had been there every day since Jan 6), she was just leaving. I stroked her head and then sort of went 'oops' I'm covering her crown chakra.....within a few minutes, she had taken a final breath, and I happen to glance up at the area illuminated by the overhead light, right at the crown chakra. There was a shimmering wisp of smoke coming from there.

My mom resisted everything (stubborn I think they call it)...I never spoke to her of dying, she didn't invite it...only the dream she had in Dec in which she said that she was going to be starting a new life gave me a clue. She didn't remember it half an hour after she said it, but started the process almost immediately, rejecting food. Everybody is unique...Bhakti, did you check the astrological info as Joanna and I did? If anyone still has or remembers the death times for their friends and loved ones who have passed, I think it would be an interesting expeience to look at the relating issues in it.

Shy, I didn't even know about the comet McNaughten. It scares me a bit that 'naught' means nothing or zero...as in it was 'all for naught'.....

It has been enough for me to know that my mother died on this passage....I will certainly read more, and also, thanks Sharon and Garry....

Federal Way (WA) schools restrict Gore film.

This week in Federal Way schools, it got a lot more inconvenient to show one of the top-grossing documentaries in U.S. history, the global-warming alert "An Inconvenient Truth."
After a parent who supports the teaching of creationism and opposes sex education complained about the film, the Federal Way School Board on Tuesday placed what it labeled a moratorium on showing the film. The movie consists largely of a computer presentation by former Vice President Al Gore recounting scientists' findings.

Al Gore's documentary about global warming may not be shown unless the teacher also presents an "opposing view." "Condoms don't belong in school, and neither does Al Gore. He's not a schoolteacher," said Frosty Hardison, a parent of seven who also said that he believes the Earth is 14,000 years old. "The information that's being presented is a very cockeyed view of what the truth is. ... The Bible says that in the end times everything will burn up, but that perspective isn't in the DVD.
School Board members adopted a three-point policy that says teachers who want to show the movie must ensure that a "credible, legitimate opposing view will be presented," that they must get the OK of the principal and the superintendent, and that any teachers who have shown the film must now present an "opposing view."

Gonzales: Judges unfit to rule on terror policy
Attorney general says federal jurists should defer to president's will

WASHINGTON - Attorney General Alberto Gonzales says federal judges are unqualified to make rulings affecting national security policy, ramping up his criticism of how they handle terrorism cases.

In remarks prepared for delivery Wednesday, Gonzales says judges generally should defer to the will of the president and Congress when deciding national security cases. He also raps jurists who “apply an activist philosophy that stretches the law to suit policy preferences.”

....................

The text of the speech, scheduled for delivery at the American Enterprise Institute, was obtained Tuesday by The Associated Press. It outlines, in part, what qualities the Bush administration looks for when selecting candidates for the federal bench.

“We want to determine whether he understands the inherent limits that make an unelected judiciary inferior to Congress or the president in making policy judgments,” Gonzales says in the prepared speech. “That, for example, a judge will never be in the best position to know what is in the national security interests of our country.”

* McNaught Correction ~ 17 Jan 2007

An astute reader noted the node/perihelion for Comet McNaught not jiving. As I crunched numbers on it the other day during a crunch of my own, I correctly located Comet McNaught. Comet McNaught C/2006 Q1. Problem being the one we can see is Comet McNaught C/2006 P1, which in the listing lies adjacent, of course.

Here are the corrected perihelion/node for the Comet McNaught C/2006 P1.

Heliocentric deg of perihelion: 3Gemini23
Heliocentric deg of node: 27Sagittarius25

The node lies amidst the Pluto (& recently Mars) connection to the GC, again serving to support the progressive download of insights, inventions & ideas. The perihelion notes the need to stimulate bidirectional communication, as in the give/take of speaking/listening or writing/reading.

The geocentric position of C/2006 P1 on Jan 15 was 29Capricorn34 & on the 25th it will be 1Aquarius14. At this point in its solar relationship its declination sinks rapidly.

My apologies for the error, but it does confirm that while working on a major manuscript & having far too many pages of data scattered here/there one must watch all the P’s/Q’s in the data. I’d like to say my cat ate my homework, but she only collates. Enjoy your comet watching.

Here is an employment perspective on the FED sponsored housing consumerism from the Nov 06 Survival newsletter. http://www.agorafinancial.com/THE_PUBS/SUR/Secure/Issues/November2006.html
snip
Given that employment will follow housing starts with a lag as existing construction completes, it appears that a minimum of 400,000-600,000 construction jobs will be lost over the next six months. The ripple effect of the loss of those jobs, especially on consumer spending, will be very noticeable. If anything, this may be a best-case scenario on the unlikely assumption that starts and permits do not decline further. Note too that with the expected decline in consumer spending as a result of housing sector weakness, layoffs will likely cascade to a wide variety of other jobs, especially restaurants and retail sales jobs.end snip.....I'll end by saying volatility is often a mark of endings....Timmy J

Upthread somewhere I had posted a link that showed where McNaught was a-coming in and it looked to me like between Sag and Cap, but I'm very well aware of my limitations of knowledge and hoped somebody more knowledgeable would look and comment. Since it either went over the Galactic Center or came close to it, I wonder what the implications of that are, particularly in combination with Pluto & Mars. If any (of course).

Is The U.S. Planning a Horrific Global Nuclear War?

By Michel Chossudovsky

01/17/07 "Information Clearing House" -- -- At no point since the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6th, 1945, has humanity been closer to the unthinkable, a nuclear holocaust which could potentially spread, in terms of radioactive fallout, over a large part of the Middle East.

All the safeguards of the Cold War era, which categorized the nuclear bomb as "a weapon of last resort" have been scrapped. "Offensive" military actions using nuclear warheads are now described as acts of "self-defence".

The distinction between tactical nuclear weapons and the conventional battlefield arsenal has been blurred. America's new nuclear doctrine is based on "a mix of strike capabilities". The latter, which specifically applies to the Pentagon's planned aerial bombing of Iran, envisages the use of nukes in combination with conventional weapons.

Ted Kennedy (D-MA) and state legislators from across the nation to launch the 50-State Anti-Escalation Campaign - a campaign to have state legislatures take up resolutions demanding Congress use its power to prevent President Bush's efforts to militarily escalate the Iraq War. Sen. Kennedy is pushing federal legislation to stop the escalation - but he needs the public's help in putting pressure on other congressional lawmakers to support his bill. As Kennedy said on the call (which you can listen to here), passing state resolutions is one of the major ways Congress can hear from the public.

That's where you come in. This call attracted hundreds of participants, and PSN is now working overtime with scores of legislators to have anti-escalation resolutions introduced in as many state legislatures as possible. You're help is vital to this effort.

Done Shadowhawk!
Sen. Snowe of Maine, tried to exercise control over our Nat. Guard, to prevent them from being sent back to Iraq, found she was over ruled by the WH, DOD, and now is on board the Hagel, Levin, resolution to vote against escalation.
I will call Sen.Collins today and urge her to join them.
I can't imagine driving the grapevine in CA in snow! I barely made it up the 6,000 mi incline in dry weather in my stick shift, 4 speed diesel rabbit truck! I was down to 25 mi per hr. ears popped, so I could only hear a roaring sound; and when you reach the summit, you drive straight down into the bowels of the earth! QUITE A MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE!

Shylurker, If they bring this kind of equality to all artistic endeavors Venezuela will soon be the world's leader in the arts. ALL the arts! Now that's one of my visions for a future of the planet. Imagine every single person with talent getting the same opportunities that only a tiny minority have now! It's almost impossible to imagining isn't it?!

was positive. May be it was because of what I was
going to blog - namely the working of cons/repug
minds. when minimum wage is raised the very compassionate cons will call all names and say that is socialism if they are kind, otherwise raising min wage is communism idea. But if a CEO
gets a raise from $10m to 50m/year or the big pigs
in the company get increase from $200/hr to $400/
hr or senators get a whopping raise, then that is
called capitalism! way to go you cons!

If it's any consolation, Raj, the same thing happened to me a couple of times today. Do you think they're reading our minds about what we're going to post and then preventing our doing so? You know, kind of like a preemptive strike on a country that might someday, maybe, in some future strike at us?

shylurker, I don't believe these cons are that smart have the ESP to read our minds. They can spy
and even in spying they're totally incompetent.

New Moon in Capricorn
Thursday, January 18, 2007
8:01pm PST
28º 41'

Since much of the time Capricorn gets a bad rap in astrology, let's begin by celebrating Capricorn's wonderful qualities. Got goals? Got focus? Got Capricorn. Got drive? Got stamina? Got accomplishment? Got Capricorn. Okay we all know about these qualities, but here's a list you might not automatically come up with. Got loyalty, courage, commitment, a huge heart, deep caring for others, a desire to teach, uplift and inspire? Now you've got the totality of Capricorn.

This is the best New Moon for setting goals, initiating projects, and making a serious commitment to achieve. (Oh and lucky us, this year, the New Moon in Capricorn comes just as you are working on those New Year's resolutions!) With Mars (action) in Capricorn, it will be mighty tempting to get right on the stick and put action behind your intentions. So let me remind you all that the two weeks after the New Moon, as the Moon waxes to full, is the optimal time to build the energy of your intentions. Action is best begun on the Full Moon. So slowing down and being deliberate is not only appropriate, but it is the Capricorn way. For those of you who have trouble with follow-through, this is the New Moon to gain focus and work on building real stamina. Believe me, with concerted focus and effort, you might find you are a whole lot stronger and more responsible than you think! Mars will help here as well.

Scientists find Extraterrestrial genes in Human DNA

A group of researchers working at the Human Genome Project indicate that they made an astonishing scientific discovery: They believe so-called 97% non-coding sequences in human DNA is no less than genetic code of extraterrestrial life forms.

The non-coding sequences are common to all living organisms on Earth, from moulds to fish to humans. In human DNA, they constitute larger part of the total genome, says Prof. Sam Chang, the group leader. Non-coding sequences, originally known as "junk DNA", were discovered years ago, and their function remained a mystery. The overwhelming majority of Human DNA is “Off-world” in origin. The apparent “extraterrestrial junk genes” merely “enjoy the ride” with hard working active genes, passed from generation to generation.

After comprehensive analysis with the assistance of other scientists, computer programmers, mathematicians, and other learned scholars, Professor Chang had wondered if the apparently “junk Human DNA” was created by some kind of “extraterrestrial programmer”. The alien chunks within Human DNA, Professor Chang further observes, “have its own veins, arteries, and its own immune system that vigorously resists all our anti-cancer drugs.”

This new U.S. approved Maliki government is just a blood thirsty vengeful Shia sectarian gov't, no better than Saddam's Baath party. I think the U.S. needs to put a stop to this witch hunt of the Sunnii population by the Shiite. All this bloodletting needs to end. One more thing for which to thank the short-sighted Bush administration.

Bloggers Who Criticize Government May Face Prison
Bill would allow rounding up and imprisoning of non-registered political writers

Steve Watson

You'd be forgiven for thinking that it was some new restriction on free speech in Communist China. But it isn't. The U.S. Government wants to force bloggers and online grassroots activists to register and regularly report their activities to Congress in the latest astounding attack on the internet and the First Amendment.

Richard A. Viguerie, Chairman of GrassrootsFreedom.com, a website dedicated to fighting efforts to silence grassroots movements, states:

"Section 220 of S. 1, the lobbying reform bill currently before the Senate, would require grassroots causes, even bloggers, who communicate to 500 or more members of the public on policy matters, to register and report quarterly to Congress the same as the big K Street lobbyists. Section 220 would amend existing lobbying reporting law by creating the most expansive intrusion on First Amendment rights ever. For the first time in history, critics of Congress will need to register and report with Congress itself."

If this is true - and that's a BIG IF - it's a very ugly and insane plan! For example, what would be the results if one of those nuclear carrying plans is shot down? I don't think getting shot down would trigger the nuclear explosive - at least it didn't used to be that way but things could have changed. I managed to keep from glowing in the dark when I worked at Rocky Flats and I don't want to start now. Just not on my agenda this lifetime!

Turned Back By USAF
By William Thomas

A recent strike by nuclear-armed Israeli Air Force fighter-bombers bound for targets in Iran was turned back after being intercepted by U.S. fighters over Iraq, this reporter has learned.

Two sources have independently confirmed the encounter, which took place on January 7, 2007. Though the first informant offered few details beyond an initial tip, a second source long-known by this reporter to have well-placed U.S. and "non-U.S." military and government contacts provided specific information regarding the raid, which was aimed at the radical religious ayatollahs holding ultimate power in Iran.

Israeli nuclear strikes are not unprecedented. Soon after Desert Storm, U.S. Navy pilots told this reporter in Kuwait how in late 1990 Israel made good on its pledge to respond in kind to WMD attacks by launching nuclear-armed aircraft against Baghdad following a lethal assault on Tel Aviv by Scud missiles tipped with chemical warheads. That air strike was called off when the Americans refused to provide the vital IFF codes needed to fly through U.S.-controlled airspace.
