IGS
Following their presentation to the President, which was met with a decided lack of enthusiasm, they were whisked onto the hallowed halls of Congress with sirens, limousines, ample SUV’s and bodyguards while Congress listened to the summary of the opinions contained in the report, http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/i/msnbc/sections/news/061206_iraq_study_group_report.pdf (thanks Morgana) and so it was on December 6, 2006 at 11:01 AM, they delivered said summary of 169 pages that could have been lifted from newspaper articles over the last eight months. I spite of the fact almost the first words were “dire and deteriorating, it still took them eight months to put this seemingly simple document together and with the administrative help from the US Institute for Peace. At this point I would like to interject a observation, Warren Buffet, one of the richest men in the world, drives his own car, lives in the same house he bought 35 years ago, walks around unattended in Omaha, and travels without bodyguards, he doesn’t seem to need the “hokey pokey,” and a man confident of his position in life. Just a side observation on my part. A tentative question was asked as to their credentials for coming to their conclusions, seems a couple of Congressmen were wondering since they had not one Middle Eastern expert on the panel and only two members had ever been in Iraq and that was in the Green Zone (Chuck Robb did venture out of that highly protected environment, but only for a few minutes) how they drew their conclusions, Mr. Baker met those questions with a wink to his fellow study group members. With the exception of William J. Perry, born in 1927, everyone on this panel was born between 1930 and 1939 with Pluto in Cancer. In 1927 it was at 13 degrees and in 1939 it was at 29 degrees Cancer. Pluto in Cancer is a group of people who like to remake their home, family, or country, they understand the darker side of human nature, they can easily manipulate others for good or for ill, and their emotional connection to the human being helps them to keep their pulse on what people are looking for, if they put their imprimatur on a document, like it or not it will become the standard the American people look toward. With Pluto bearing down on Capricorn, this is about the last hurrah for this generation to make an impact and have influence but right now they do. Pluto in Cancer trumps any other planet in Cancer, including the Bush Sun and Saturn, the US Venus, Jupiter, Sun and Mercury. The 30’s group will steam roll over any other agenda.
James Baker has a ton of planets in Taurus and he will not let go of what’s his and Saudi Arabia is his right now as is the health of Opec. George Bush has planets in Cancer as does the United States and we are interested in protecting our home turf, which leads me to December 6th Chart and the massive amount of inconjuncts to Baker, Bush and America’s charts, those inconjuncts will most assuredly manage to confuse everyone involved in this Study, no one will know how to implement the suggestions so another level of confusion and insanity has been added to Iraq. In fact this whole process from beginning to end has been surrounded in confusion and obfuscation. No one in this group has a concept of what they were supposed to do or what they were supposed to accomplish. Lee Hamilton particularly isn’t too happy with the results or George’s response. They did get “dire and deteriorating” correct and that might have been the most wisdom coming from the Sagittarius stellium of Mars, Jupiter, Sun, Venus and Pluto. While the Venus and Pluto conjunction does inconjunct Bush’s Saturn and Baker’s Venus, while squaring Hamilton’s Venus, it also makes sure the report packs a punch. But what is that punch? They didn’t give any real recommendations for implementation; it was pretty much a report on what was wrong. There was one suggestion that seems ludicrous on the surface if you are truly interested in the killing of our soldiers to end, and that is to “embed” US forces in Iraqi Army units. Their Army, such as it is, is a rough make up of Shia death squads. That doesn’t seem to be a good idea if your intention is for our soldier’s safety. Greg Palast aptly names the warring factions as the “murderous Shia” (who Iran backs) and in the Saudi’s corner are the “Sunni berserkers,” funded by the Saudi’s. This is the hell hole our soldiers find themselves. Add to that incendiary mix and according to Palast the Saudi’s told Cheney in no uncertain terms that if we pull out American troops they will “crank up more payments to their Sunni warrior brothers in Iraq.” The reason this report is so vague is we aren’t going anywhere and the December 6th Chart shows that clearly and Congress won’t be able to do a thing as they take office on the Capricorn/Cancer Full Moon right on the US Sun signaling a new group is in town and before Bush gets out of office he will have to make “comrades” of them if he wants to survive. The Dec. chart’s Sun at 14 Sagittarius is in a sextile to the US Saturn (represents the President) and Jim Baker’s Chiron and Lee Hamilton’s Mercury form a yod to that sextile; they have delivered the message to the President that he has created a mess and he had better find a way to play nice with Iran with the hope that a diplomatic solution can be found to call off the Shia death squads. Venus and Pluto of the Dec. chart also trines Saturn in the same chart; this group will be in control of the Presidency and they have high hopes of saving this administration from further humiliation and the country from further destruction. Working together won’t be easy, a constant at odds over the recommendations in the IGS. The King of Jordon might be right, three civil wars in the Middle East by this time next year. One interesting aspect in the chart of the original meeting of the commission, March 15th, the South Node was conjunct GWB’s Neptune, what he thinks was happening with this group isn’t what was happening. The President was set up on this one and will lead to surrounding him in a box, losing more and more power. I don’t know who came to the White House with the suggestion of an Iraq Study, but whoever it was they were wolves in sheep’s clothing. You do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around and that’s what it’s all about.

I could not help but think about how angry Baker must be at GWB's reaction to the study after all he did back in 2000 to get the guy in power. He put his right foot in and now he can take his right foot out. Baker is powerful and one that the king should have kept happy. I think the next 6 months will be very interesting to observe. I don't know a whole lot about Lee Hamilton but I felt he had good intentions, as did the ISG in general. Did you notice how GWB refused to introduce the whole panel? I thought that was very rude. (Bill Clinton would have introduced them all and made them all feel important and special!) Posted by: Laurie on December 10, 2006 07:41 AMYes Clinton would have introduced the whole panel Laurie and looking at Hamilton's chart in relation to Bush, I expect he was very irritated. They are trying to save the oil, and keep Saudi Arabia happy and save the Bush family butt at the same time, not an easy task. The whole thing is doomed for failure because the agenda was not honest and they are trying to play the ends against the middle. The mess is too big and soon to be uncontained at all. Frank Rich has a really good editorial out on this, I recommend it. The Sun Shine Boys is a great title. Later in 2007 Baker comes up against some problems and this will just be one of them. This much is for sure, he is not to be trusted. http://roziusunbound.blogspot.com/2006/12/frank-rich-sunshine-boys-cant-save-iraq.html Posted by: Sally on December 10, 2006 07:50 AMThis is how bad things have gotten: where Jim Baker is seen as the good guy. How nice it would be if Baker said to W, paternal-like, "I brought you into this (presidency) and I can take you out of it." And then, take him out (not kill him of course, though you never know what they'll do). W seems to be forgetting, if he ever really know, who REALLY runs this country. And it's not Cheney, either - Cheney comes running when the Saudis summon him. W was installed by the puppet masters because he was too dumb to buck them. Now, things are coming to a head and the masters must be none too pleased. That includes Pappy and his oil interests. Because it's become abundantly clear that this clown will not, never, no way no how, cooperate now. He must be removed. And if not by congress, if not by the US people, then by the puppet masters. Posted by: Michael from NYC on December 10, 2006 09:46 AMObama doesn't impress me so much and I sure don't see parallels with JFK, he just doesn't have that kind of charisma, but he represents a fresher promise of something new. I would love to see an African American or a woman as President. I don't think Hillary can possibly make it although the GOP want her because she is the easiest to run against. Looking at his chart, Obama has more parallels to Clinton than to JFK, he even has the Leo Sun and Taurus Moon like Clinton and Clinton held that promise of something fresh and new in 1992. I hate to say this, but can he bring in the money it would take to start that climb. He's not a wealthy man and although Kennedy had a real upward climb in 1959/1960, but he had a huge political machine behind him because of his grandfathers and his father, not to mention the personal money Joe Kennedy (dad) paid out. I expect Obama is out there now trying to see if he can raise any money for a run. I do think folks are excited about him because he is a new face on the scene. Another possibility is his wife, her family might have a large fortune and could afford to put millions of their own funds into a campaign. I'm just not sold on Obama, but then again there isn't anyone out there I feel real excited about. Another new face to watch is Jim Webb from Virginia, he's a little pugnacious for me, but he is smart, articulate, a maverick, and willing to go head to head and I'm not sure we will not be embroiled in the Mid East by 2008 even more so than we are now the people might be scared not to go with a war time president, Webb would fit that bill. He's also been a Reagan Republican (whatever that means) and could draw in the moderate vote. I don't actually see anyone being mentioned that can bring in the evangical vote and if they could I think they would lose everyone else, still the South is a massive voting block and could upset any election. Posted by: Sally on December 10, 2006 10:33 AMHappy Inpoeachment Day all! Very interesting Sally! I came to this article fresh from listening to a 1/2 hour Woodrow WIlson Center Dialogue with Lee Hamilton; looking for their website so I could respond;"correct him"! He was blowing quite a lot of hot air thru his nether orifaces unimpeded by clothing! What he said, didn't resonate as evil, or greedy, just unintuitive ignorance. Inability to percieve another's reality. "The American people's failing to SAVE $ is a cultural deficency peculiar to Americans. Correctable by better education?" Hello Lee, you can't save what you don't have! That Baker and Hamilton were anchors for this report boded ill from the beginning. A set up, for sure, as you indicate, Sally. Everyone's trying to protect their own bu** and turf. The back stabbing is going to be one nasty game of one upsmanship. And all the while the murder of innocents will continue unabated. I had a dream last night about a big, Texas-style man in his late sixties who left his large truck running wherever he went. Though he was jovial on the surface, he intimidated all those around him. No one ever confronted him about this bad habit. I told him he needed to turn off his truck. Not only was he contaminating the air his children and grandchildren breathed, but he was also leaving them a dying world. He was shocked that i dared speak to him in that manner, but i held my ground. To me this man symbolized all that must pass before we are able to reclaim the very planet itself. QOPat. . .i've often thought the same thing. How foolish to tell people to save when they're making minimum wage. In fact, how ignorant. karen, Ahhhh, always refreshing, the plunge into reality. I just wish that somehow the veneer could be stripped from the popular nooze and people could understand the full impact of the Saudi connection on the US, which you have so skillfully presented, Cap'n Sally. They've really gotten themselves into a huge mess now. And, most unfortunately, the US and the world is stuck in the mess with them. What to do in a situation where you have installed someone in the Oval House who is not qualified by any stretch and who is as stubborn as they come, particularly when the Veep position is occupied by one of the strangest persons around, and one who cannot be trusted. They're really in a very bad bind. I keep thinking about Nancy Pelosi, two heartbeats away from a Very Important Job. Not likely to happen, I know, but it's still interesting to think about. Baker is the Shiva of *co. Shiva in legend is the godworld meets the human body. Baker is probably the liason of the Illuminati. He is the one they let out in the world to be seen. QOP, I am beginning to wonder how tightly wrapped or in what universe some of these people live in where they relate their financially safe lifestyle with those who have none. Most of us are in a better place than the people who have to live on the streets or in shelters but do any of us have a problem understanding how hard life is for them with their addictions and mental illnesses. I will admit to having a lack of understanding of those who would criticize when they have not walked a mile in another's shoes. By the way, on one of the morning shows Tony Blair was being interviewed and I heard him say, and no one challanged him "the US and UK initiatives in Iraq have been successful, it's just the people who are giving us problems." Now can someone help me with a possible intelligent understanding of what he could have meant? Because the way I took it was "our life could be perfect if people would just do what we say." That is an incredible statement leading me back to "these people are not tightly wrapped." Posted by: Sally on December 10, 2006 04:25 PMDoonesbury Hi, I'm Jim Baker ............. Bush to begin discussing the need to limit free speech -- usually linking it to nefarious and nonexistent "threats" -- and limiting access to the internet. Corporations are threatened by this new medium because it allows common people to counter moneyed influence and too, levels the information playing field. It is no longer a game of who has more money to spend on public relations, spin, and outright lies; with the internet it is simply a matter of who has the information. These powerful interests are beginning to realize that the internet amplifies the voices -- specifically Progressive voices -- that they had always been able to suppress through corporate media control. The Republican Party's "culture war" had, so it seemed, succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. They'd managed to capture nearly every lever of national, state, and regional governance. From the White House to the State House, Republicans and their pathetic "culture war" had taken over the American peoples' consciousness. And then it happened. The internet. True enough they usually try to link their desire of limiting free speech and internet access to "national security" issues, but the fact is that the internet and free speech are not threats to national security. They are a threat to the Oligarchic-wing of the Republican Party and its ability to maintain power and control. Combined, free speech and the internet have propelled Progressive ideas and policies to the forefront of the peoples' consciousness. As a result, people have begun to embrace those ideas and policies while rejecting the notion of a "culture war." Indeed, the reason powerful people are openly discussing the need to limit free speech and access to the internet is simple - America is returning to Her Progressive roots, and they don't like it. http://www.progressivedailybeacon.com/ Posted by: Pat C on December 11, 2006 01:34 AMEmbattled dynasty comes out fighting after predators attack New York Times The paper's controlling family faces a falling stock price and rising takeover talk. CIA is undermining British war effort, say military chiefs Confidential report speaks of 'serious tensions' in the coalition over strategy in Iraq and Afghanistan 12/10/06 "The Independent" -- - - British intelligence officers and military commanders have accused the US of undermining British policies in Iraq and Afghanistan, after the sacking of a key British ally in the Afghan province of Helmand. British sources have blamed pressure from the CIA for President Hamid Karzai's decision to dismiss Mohammed Daud as governor of Helmand, the southern province where Britain deployed some 4,000 troops this year. Governor Daud was appointed in mid-year to replace a man the British accused of involvement in opium trafficking, but on Thursday Mr Karzai summoned him to Kabul and sacked him, along with his deputy. "The Americans knew Daud was a main British ally," one official told The Independent on Sunday, "yet they deliberately undermined him and told Karzai to sack him." The official said the Defence Secretary, Des Browne, was "tearing his hair out". Meanwhile, a confidential assessment of the situation in Iraq, seen by the IoS, has reported "serious tensions" in the American-British coalition. American commanders in the country are believed to oppose the British strategy for handing over Maysan and Basra provinces to Iraqi control as part of an exit strategy. The disclosures come only days after differences between the US and Britain were on display during Tony Blair's visit to Washington, and the Iraq Study Group issued a report containing withering criticism of President George Bush's policies. With British commanders warning that they may not be able to succeed in Afghanistan unless forces in Iraq are drawn down, cracks in the transatlantic alliance are likely to widen. The disagreements have come into the open after the summary sacking of Britain's protégé, Governor Daud. Although rival delegations from Helmand were in Kabul last week, one calling for his removal and the other demanding that he stay, a diplomatic source said Mr Karzai had listened to advice from "other powerful Western players". Mr Daud, who had survived several Taliban assassination attempts, was seen as a key player in Britain's anti-drugs campaign in Helmand. He was also the architect of a deal under which British forces moved out of the town of Musa Qala, where they had been involved in fierce combat with Taliban fighters. But the Americans publicly criticised truces in Musa Qala and other Helmand towns, saying they effectively gave in to the Taliban. A British diplomatic source said yesterday: "We backed Mohammed Daud because he was an honest man and a progressive man, so obviously this is very disappointing. However, it is also true that he was under tremendous pressure and his position was getting weakened. Where does this leave our policy? Well, we shall have to wait and see." The British commander of the Nato force in Afghanistan, Lieutenant-General David Richards, has also come in for American criticism as "too political". The American supreme commander of Nato, General Jim Jones, has let it be known, according to sources, that General Richards "would have been sacked if he had been an American officer". While the tensions between Britain and the US have burst into the open in Afghanistan, they have been simmering in Iraq. The confidential assessment of the situation there says American commanders want the British to be far more robust in confronting Shia militias in the south. Do the 50 some oligarchic families pull squiggles or actual paper thingies into their homes? Or have they stashed almost all the world's gold/silver bullion into their basements? Is it buried out in the desert or dropped into the deep blue sea in containers? Somebody help me out here! Posted by: JoannaOregon on December 11, 2006 04:15 PMOops...I posted this by mistake on the other thread..... I heard this song on the radio this morning and thought how appropriate for our times...From 1975... Suite Madame Blue Time after time I sit and I wait for your call Suite Madame Blue, gaze in your looking glass America....America...America..America.. Red white and blue, gaze in your looking glass
Suite Madame Blue is about the decline of America told using the analogy of a woman. It was written as a wake up call in 1975 as the American Bicentennial approached. Note the line "You conquered the world and more...heaven's door" referring to America's accomplishment of landing a man on the moon in 1969. The theme of this song was revived in 1980 as the basis of the concept behind the Paradise Theatre album. Posted by: Cybear on December 11, 2006 04:16 PMBoston Globe Dec 11 WASHINGTON -- Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis who have fled their homeland are likely to seek refugee status in the United States, humanitarian groups said, putting intense pressure on the Bush administration to reexamine a policy that authorizes only 500 Iraqis to be resettled here next year. The official US policy has been that the refugee situation is temporary and that most of the estimated 1.5 million who have fled to Jordan, Syria, and elsewhere will eventually return to Iraq. But US and international officials now acknowledge that the instability in Iraq has made it too dangerous for many refugees, especially Iraqi Christians, to return any time soon. Ellen Sauerbrey, assistant secretary of state for refugees and migration, said that while the Bush administration does not think resettlement is needed for most refugees, its policy could rapidly change. "It is quite possible that we will in time decide that because of vulnerabilities of certain populations that resettlement is the right option," Sauerbrey said. While acknowledging that the administration originally set a quota of no more than 500 Iraqi refugees, she said the president has the legal authority to admit 20,000 additional refugees. ..................... Arthur E. "Gene" Dewey, who was President Bush's assistant secretary of state for refugee affairs until last year, said that "for political reasons the administration will discourage" the resettlement of Iraqi refugees in the United States "because of the psychological message it would send, that it is a losing cause." http://www.boston.com/news/world/middleeast/articles/2006/12/11/iraqi_exodus_could_test_bush_policy Posted by: Pat C on December 11, 2006 04:24 PMI can't help it, Cybear... And what's your reaction to this? shylurker, what a fascinating look at Pluto in Capricorn. The author was interesting and he made perfect sense to me. Thank you for the link! Those Pluto transits are transformational and the U.S.A. is going to have to go through some tremendous upheavels/changes in the years to come. It seems we will lose even more freedoms before things get better. He seemed to think it would not matter WHO was president until AFTER the Pluto transit is over. Posted by: Laurie on December 12, 2006 01:00 AMShylurker I was just getting ready to post Michael Lutin's astrological article on the next two decades. Michael is a good astrologer but and astrologers are very concerned as to the outcome of Pluto's first transit through Capricorn since 1770 and there is no doubt that problems with corporations will be front and center just as they were in the 1770's as will the severe restrictions placed on our fourfathers that drove this country to a revolution. Pluto in the 7th House of America's solar chart indicates power over us from someplace, and Pluto in America's natal 2nd house indicates a restructuring of our values. I am too hopeful an astrologer to believe that the worst will befall us, but we may think it's the worst because it will be different than what we've had. I just don't see it quite as dire as painted in this article, there are always balancing aspects Posted by: Sally on December 12, 2006 01:37 AMBy the way, the Constitution will be re-written Posted by: Sally on December 12, 2006 01:38 AMthat all fits in perfectly with what John Titor stated: America will be broken into 5 separate sections, and I'm already seeing that that's the way Iraq is going to go also, broken into sections. Don't mean to distract from the discussion, but can I ask a personal question concerning comparative astrology? Thanks Seeker Posted by: seeker on December 12, 2006 02:50 AMMost importantly, Cap'n Sally, who will re-write the Constitution? We the People or those representing the corporations? That's where my deepest fear lies. Posted by: shylurker on December 12, 2006 02:52 AMAnd if you REALLY want to get creeped-out, go here: You're right Shylurker, I was creeped out. As far as who re-writes the Constitution, I believe it will ultimately be the people. In 1760 Pluto was on the Galactic Center and the Sons of Patriots was formed, not as a group to start a revolution, although they came to that, but as a negiotiating group to lift the onerous tax burdens imposed by England because of the East India Trade Companies (and there were several, nearly every European country had one) The Trade Companies were the umbrella for the mega corporations of that time. The Sons of the Patriots were marginally successful for a time and then things just kept getting worse until April 1775 when the first shot of the Revolutionary War was leveled at the British and the East India Trade Companies, the war was not over until 1783 when Pluto moved to Aquarius, the Constitution wasn't written until 1787 and adopted into law in 1789. Almost the entire time Pluto was in Capricorn, this country was trying to get the Trade Companies and Europe cut them some slack. I expect we will experience the same thing until we explode into a Revolution. The Constitution is very nearly gutted now, and still the beat goes on. It's already been re-written to support big business and I expect it to become more so. To answer your question the Constitution in effect today has the stamp of big business all over it, when it's rewritten it will be the people Posted by: Sally on December 12, 2006 04:22 AMCap'n Sally, you have lifted the heaviest fear from me. Just so long as We the People do the writing. Ah!!!!!!!! Posted by: shylurker on December 12, 2006 04:28 AMLutin's dates are a bit off. He listed 2015-19 for the Uranus-Pluto Square. I've always pegged it as seven exact hits over the course of 2012-15/16, a bit earlier, though the energy will certainly be evident throughout most of the decade, perhaps even as early as 2009, and as late as 2018. The US Pluto Return is in February 2022 at 27 Capricorn, but I suppose since Pluto is slow moving, the energy will also be evident for several years on either side of the exact hit. Very interesting note he made about Uranus and 29 Pisces. It probably will feel to many like the world is coming to an end. It won't, of course. But you can bet that there will be at least a few preachers taking their flocks to some mountaintop to wait for the rapture. Posted by: NEOBuckeye on December 12, 2006 04:50 AM2014-16 are also the years when Pluto will be opposing the US natal Sun (13 Cancer -- and interestingly enough, Bush's natal Sun AND the natal GOP sun, at 14 Cancer). If there is a time in which we face massive, concentrated opposition from enemies and opposing forces, it will likely be during the mid 2010s. Posted by: NEOBuckeye on December 12, 2006 04:56 AMI suspect that Uranus going into Aries in 2011 will result in a major bursting out into the open -- an explosive revolution -- of new technologies, particularly in alternative fuels and energy, but perhaps also nanotechnology, genetics, cloning, and other sciences that have already been in development, but surpressed by the present conservative/reactionary movement. These of course, will challenge the status quo ways and structures, represented by Pluto in Cap. The Uranus-Pluto Square will likely finalize the end of the OILigarchy's dominance of global/financial affairs... If that hasn't already taken place. If there's even a shred of truth on that Wanta story that Pat posted above, Bush Sr. and apparently Clinton as well are doing their darndest to bring about their own collective Waterloo. 2007 will certainly be a very eye-opening year, to say the least. It would be almost politically suicidal for members of Congress to espouse a balanced position between Israel and Palestine, to suggest that Israel comply with international law or to speak in defence of justice or human rights for Palestinians. Very few would deign to visit the Palestinian cities of Ramallah, Nablus, Hebron, Gaza City or Bethlehem and talk to the beleaguered residents. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/story/0,,1970058,00.html Posted by: wv on December 12, 2006 11:17 AMHere's a quote I liked from Anthony (?) Pastor Quits After Revealing Same-Sex Relations The resignation of the pastor, the Rev. Paul Barnes, from the pulpit of the 2,100-member Grace Chapel megachurch in Englewood came by way of a tearful, 32-minute videotaped address to his congregation. His departure occurred a month after the Rev. Ted Haggard quit as president of the National Association of Evangelicals and senior pastor of New Life Church in Colorado Springs when a former male prostitute disclosed that Mr. Haggard had had a sexual relationship with him. Dave Palmer, the associate pastor of Grace Chapel, told The Post that the church received a call last week from a person who had overheard someone speak of “blowing the whistle” on other evangelical ministers in clandestine homosexual relationships, among them Mr. Barnes. Mr. Palmer then spoke with Mr. Barnes. A spokeswoman for Grace Chapel said that church leaders had declined to comment further. A statement issued by the church on Sunday said that Mr. Barnes, who founded Grace Chapel 28 years ago, had confessed to infidelity; it did not mention homosexuality. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/12/us/12resign.html?_r=1&oref=slogin&pagewanted=print Posted by: wv on December 12, 2006 11:41 AM
Time to Offshore Our Troops THE Iraq Study Group’s recommendation that the United States withdraw its combat forces from Iraq reflects a growing national consensus that our military cannot quell the violence there and may even be making matters worse. Although many are hailing this recommendation as a bold new course, it is not bold enough. America will best serve its interests in the Persian Gulf by withdrawing its ground-based military forces not only from Iraq, but from the entire region. Critics of the report continue to debate the wisdom and details of a drawdown in Iraq, but there has been no debate about America’s broader strategy in the gulf. Policymakers and analysts from across the political spectrum assume that the United States must maintain a robust military presence there. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/12/opinion/12press.html?pagewanted=print Posted by: wv on December 12, 2006 12:12 PMOoooh. Posted by: shylurker on December 12, 2006 05:27 PMKuccinich doesn't have the charisma of an Obama, or the timeliness of being the first African American candidate from a major party (female works well, too) - but he is one sound, progressive individual. I like what I know of Obama very much but I don't see him ready yet, nor do I see Edwards as being exactly ready or qualified, even though I like him, too. On the other hand, once someone catches on because they bring to the table something new, deeper, identifiable with the common man (Carter, Clinton, even Bush - although with him it was grasping at straws), they do seem to grow before your very eyes into presidential material. I will look into Obama's books. I think he seems a little flimsy right now. I just ready on one of the blogs (maybe here?) that someone thought the Republicans would more or less destroy him - I'm sure they have the ability to try to destroy anyone but I don't see anything about Obama yet that raises that red flag. He is a real force for good in the world and he has guts. Posted by: Sharon on December 13, 2006 12:58 AMHi kiwijeanie I have a chart for Fiji - Fiji Independance chart set for Oct 10 1970 at midnight (giving 7+ Cancer on the ascendant and 15 Libra 17 Sun). This chart is very telling... Fiji has had a lot of problems with political stability for several years now. The Sun at Libra 16 has the Sabian Symbol of A Boat Landing Washed Away... so interesting, there must be thousands of 'boat landings' in Fiji - and this degree shows the constant need to get out one's tools and rebuild in some way. Constant 'storms' will be a feature, as they certainly have. The Moon is on Aquarius 3: A Deserter From the Navy - which seems to show further political instability... This whole chart is very interesting... Mercury is on Libra 3: The Dawn of a New Day Reveals Everything Changed, which is a great degree, but can lead to instability, again, when one would prefer to have things predictable. The progressed Moon is currently on Gemini 10: An Airplane Performing a Nosedive... this can be very difficult, expecially in the realms of trying to keep or regain control of a situation that is plummeting. Someone, obviously, really needs to take hold of the reins (reigns? :) ) Also, the progressed Sun is currently on Scorpio 22: Hunter Shooting Wild Ducks... it's a wonder the situation hasn't gotten more nasty with that degree around. About 18 months or so ago, the progressed Sun moved onto Scorpio 21: A Soldier Going Absent Without Leave. They sure are dealing with upheavals. Also, the progressed Mercury is on Sag 3: Two Men Playing Chess. Chess, of course, being the game where individuals try to 'knock one another off the board'. Saturn is on TAurus 19: A New Continent Arising from the Ocean. That Saturn, along with other factors, I believe is one of the keys to it beign so hard for Fiji to self actualise. They're also experiencing Pluto square Pluto - with their Pluto being at Virgo 28: A Bald Headed Man in Uniform Has Seized Power. Yep, military coups - they've had a few! I do hope they find some peace and a way forward. Indeed, friends of mine are supposed to be going tomorrow, but the Australian travel advisory is to not go there. This is so unfair for all those people in the country that rely on tourism. Progressed Mars is currently on Libra 17: A Retired Sea Captain - people sitting around, wanting to work but having to just sit and watch and observe. It will next traverse Libra 18: Two Men Placed Under Arrest and then Libra 19: A Gang of Robbers in Hiding. Urk... I hope they get their Mars issues together, along with that Pluto sorted! Thanks for directing my attention to this chart, kiwijeanie - it's a very interesting one... there's more to say, but then there always is! Posted by: Lynda Hill on December 13, 2006 12:59 AMWOW! Thanx Seeker Posted by: seeker on December 13, 2006 01:36 AMA couple of years ago Kiwijeanne, Fiji (taking Lynda's date) had Uranus going over their North Node indicating a new period of instability, now Saturn is squaring their Saturn/Venus opposition creating restrictions and frustrations. I don't see their problems ending for a year or so. I agree with you the Military is kind of sort of trying to "clean" Fiji government up from their corruption but I don't think the new Military Commander has the skill to do so and I don't think this coup was well thought out. In about 18 months there could be a coup of the coup. As to the Saudi Prince sudden resignation from the Ambassador to the US there are some interesting posts from DU under the article. Shylurker is right, there is something scary about this and GWB is wandering around on his 4 year too late fact finding tour trying to buy himself some time. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x2649199 Posted by: Sally on December 13, 2006 01:46 AMFeingold, Baker,Hamilton: And a jolly play of grand cardinal crosses! The bipartisan letter escalates efforts by Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, and Rep. Rush Holt, D-N.J., to get the FBI to tell lawmakers what it has learned during the five-year case that remains unsolved. The FBI has refused, citing concerns about possible leaks. The lawmakers said any leakers of prior information about the anthrax case inside the FBI or Congress should be punished but that such concerns do not justify keeping information from lawmakers so they could perform their required oversight of the FBI's performance. The case remains unsolved five years later. "As an institution, Congress cannot be cut-off from detailed information about the conduct of one of the largest investigations in FBI history," the lawmakers wrote. "That information is vital in order to fulfill its Constitutional responsibility to conduct oversight." The letter is signed by members of both parties and members of both chambers of Congress including the outgoing chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa. Sen. TOP-LEVEL INSIDERS SELLING THEIR STOCK December 7, 2006 -- America's corporate chiefs are unloading their own stocks at one of the boldest paces in 20 years. In cases of the very rich, such as Microsoft's Bill Gates and Google's top brass, the executives are selling a whopping $63 for each $1 of stock they bought, says a report by Bloomberg. In November alone, leaders of public companies dumped $8.4 billion worth of stock they owned as insiders, most of it awarded as compensation, bonuses or other management incentives. But the vast majority of the executives put their windfall cash to work elsewhere, with just $133 million being plowed back into purchases of more company stock. Analysts say a take-the-money-and-run flight from their own companies signals a growing lack of confidence in the economy's future course, as well as fears of a possible global meltdown if the Iraq crisis escalates across borders. It's also a good time to take profits, with the Dow Jones industrial average up nearly 15 percent this year, the S&P 500 ahead 13 percent, and the Nasdaq 11 percent higher.
Just before the worst of the 2000 recession, insider sales were also at a near record. Leading the latest wave of insider selling is Microsoft, with $594.2 million of stock sold by insiders during November, with Gates unloading $581.1 million. Gates has been selling shares regularly - including $2.1 billion last year - as he whittles down his once mammoth stake, putting a big chunk of his wealth to work in a not-for-profit foundation that invests in a wide range of securities and other deals. Billionaire Paul Allen also sold off 28 percent of his stake last month in DreamWorks Animation SKG for $224.2 million, keeping about 21 million shares. Insiders at Seagate sold $311.8 million in November, while Google insiders unloaded $182.1 million in the four weeks. Google's CEO Eric Schmidt and its co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page have usually led the insider-selling parade with sales of hundreds of millions as the stock rose steadily to break the $500 mark.

One of the things he told Chimp was that if he went into Iraq it would be the chinashop type of thing....'you break it, you own it'...well, he sure knew where all of it was going. And the Pluto/Capricorn thing, the trials of the USA financially...I've just come out of (actually, not quite yet) 12 years of Pluto in my second house (Sag) transit....and lost all my property, my profession (twice) and all my savings for the future, I was in bankruptcy and lost my credit and my home. I don't know who brought up the Pluto/Cap/2nd house thing, but that is my personal experience. I heard Barak Obama on Ed Shultz show Monday, and he is a Bears fan. But he will be making an announcement by end of year about whether he will run. He has a marvelous voice...(might someone look at his chart for that?) Like Clinton's hands, it is something you notice immediately. He is smart too... Here is a good interview with a man named GaryRenard on the nature of reality....about how we project our realities onto the world...certainly what this group of men have done, as it has been so well explained in Sally's piece. And so, since the beginning back in 2002/03, political columnistTed Rall had said it is all about the oil and the Saudis. He was dropped from many newspapers for his stand...but of course, he always was right. At least Ted Rall didn't end up a suicide like Gary Webb. Nation All Things Considered, December 11, 2006 · A military watchdog group is asking the Pentagon whether senior uniformed officers had permission to appear in a video endorsing an evangelical Christian group. The Christian Embassy is an evangelical missionary group focused on government workers in Washington, DC. The group's recent promotional video features endorsements from several prominent military officers. In response, another group, the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, is preparing a possible class-action lawsuit against the Pentagon for what lawyer Michael Weinstein calls "the creation of a theocracy, of a particular fundamentalist perspective within our own military branches." The foundation says a core of evangelicals are gaining influence at the Pentagon, and violating military policies. It cites Wednesday-morning prayer sessions in the Pentagon's executive dining room, which features speakers from the Christian Embassy. The Pentagon released a statement Monday insisting it does not endorse any religious viewpoint or organization. But the Defense Department also promised to review the promotional video. In it, Brig. Gen. Vince Brooks and seven other uniformed officers endorse the Christian Embassy.

An Insane presidency By Gnarly Erik What can you do when your country's president is certifiable? In the United States we have no method to address an insane president except to assess the his 'Inability' to discharge his duties. Impeachment is reserved for "Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors" - which seemingly will also fit this president in spades. We can only hope the leaders of all political parties can and will find the courage to confront our current presidential insanity before it's too late. George W. Bush, the omnipotent, all-knowing 'War President' is in total denial and has proven manifestly unable to accept any advice or opinions contrary to his own, no matter the source. Augusto Pinochet’s death on Dec. 10 means the Bush Family can breathe a little bit easier, knowing that criminal proceedings against Chile’s notorious dictator can no longer implicate his longtime friend and protector, former President George H.W. Bush. Share this article Although Chilean investigations against other defendants may continue, the cases against Pinochet end with his death of a heart attack at the age of 91. Pinochet’s death from natural causes also marks a victory for world leaders, including George H.W. and George W. Bush, who shielded Pinochet from justice over the past three decades. The Bush Family’s role in the Pinochet cover-up began in 1976 when then-CIA Director George H.W. Bush diverted investigators away from Pinochet’s guilt in a car bombing in Washington that killed political rival Orlando Letelier and an American, Ronni Moffitt. The cover-up stretched into the presidency of George W. Bush when he sidetracked an FBI recommendation to indict Pinochet in the Letelier-Moffitt murders. Some highlights of the legislation: – Commercial websites and personal blogs “would be required to report illegal images or videos posted by their users or pay fines of up to $300,000.” – Internet service providers (ISPs) are already required to issue such reports, but under McCain’s legislation, bloggers with comment sections may face “even stiffer penalties” than ISPs. — Social networking sites will be forced to take “effective measures” — such as deleting user profiles — to remove any website that is “associated” with a sex offender. Sites may include not only Facebook and MySpace, but also Amazon.com, which permits author profiles and personal lists, and blogs like DailyKos, which allows users to sign up for personal diaries. Kevin Bankston of the Electronic Frontier Foundation notes that this proposal may be based more “on fear or political considerations rather than on the facts.” When he introduced his legislation to the Senate, McCain offered no evidence that children are being victimized by people who post comments on blogs. McCain’s legislation could deal a serious blow to the blogosphere. By sanctioning an Israeli invasion and standing back to witness “the birth pangs” of democracy, he created the crisis in Lebanon. By demanding elections and severely punishing the results, he created the crisis in Palestine. By prefacing his hegemonic crusade for “democracy” with a declaration of the “axis of evil”, he cut off all lines of diplomacy with Iraq, Iran and North Korea while transforming an early and effective ally in the battle against Al Qaeda (Iran) into an enemy. Against this backdrop, even if he had not committed the cardinal crime of international conduct by launching an aggressive war and occupation against an unthreatening nation, the president would still be an albatross in nearly every nation in the region. By launching that invasion, inflicting mass casualties, splintering Iraq beyond repair, and creating a failed state, he has managed to alienate all nations, including Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt. Never has a president failed so spectacularly. We can continue to debate the finer points of the Iraq Study Group recommendations but it will be a purely intellectual exercise until we recognize the albatross in the room. The president is not only unwilling to seek a negotiated withdrawal, he is incapable of doing so. His credibility in Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Iran and Iraq has gone beyond absolute zero. He believes he is still in a position to make demands when the very ground upon which he stands is erupting in flames. The way forward in Iraq (already a hackneyed cliché and a borderline oxymoron) does not run through this White House; it runs around it. It begins by recognizing that the president is the problem and the nation cannot afford to wait until the next election to resolve it. This is his war, his occupation, his exploding catastrophe, and others must now step forward to take responsibility for ending it. There are two ways forward in Iraq and both were unwisely and prematurely taken off the table by the leadership of the newly elected congress. more... A clear majority of people in the United States have expressed the same sentiment in major opinion polls and in the mid-term Congressional elections, which swing both houses of Congress and the majority of state governorships to the Democrats, in a clear vote against the imperial arrogance of Bush’s “stay the course” approach to the disaster in Iraq. The public did not vote for more money for the Pentagon (as incoming Senate majority leader Harry Reid of Nevada immediately promised, announcing a plan to give $75 billion more to the Pentagon), for more “oversight” of the war (the main Democratic Party buzzword these days), or for more troops (as Texas Democrat Representative Silvestre Reyes, the incoming chair of the House Intelligence Committee, has demanded), but to begin bringing the troops home. A clear majority of active-duty U.S. troops want the same thing, as a much-ignored Zogby International poll found in early 2005, with 72 percent saying they wanted to be out of Iraq by the end of 2006. http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2006/12/16/104243/34 Start your engines. Incoming Democratic committee chairmen say they will hold a series of hearings and investigations early next year to build the case for their call for a phased withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq and for possible action against defense contractors found to have wasted billions in federal funds. The emerging plans to grill administration officials on the conduct of the war are part of a pledge for more aggressive congressional oversight on issues such as prewar intelligence, prisoner treatment at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay, and the government’s use of warrantless wiretaps. Yes, the upcoming 110th Congress should be an exciting one. And the technical staff here at Daily Kos just might have to look into how to program the spell-checker so that it recognizes the word “warrantless.” So, who’s going to lead the charge? Waxman, at the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee? Leahy, on Senate Judiciary? Conyers, his counterpart in the House? Among the most eager incoming chairmen is Sen. Carl M. Levin (D-Mich.), a lawyer with a professor’s demeanor and a prosecutor’s doggedness. As head of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Levin, 72, will be his party’s point man on the Iraq war and on the Democrats’ call to begin withdrawing troops in the coming months. Oooh, almost forgot about that one! Levin said he also plans inquiries into “documentation of waste and fraud and abuse in the contracting areas” of the military. Aggressive oversight “is not just a budget issue,” he said, but at some point “becomes a significant moral issue.” More…. Industry around us shut down, and he lost his factory job, and nearly everything else material. He thought he was going to lose my Mom, but fortunately, being the stubborn yet resillient Aqu Asc/Sag Sun/Lunar Scorpio she is, she'd never let him go. We managed to keep the house, and he eventually landed something more solid, though it was nowhere near as good as before. After several years of uncertainty, switching jobs and working in unsafe conditions, he finally landed the job that he's had ever since. He's finally close to the level of comfort that he had three decades ago, though he still laments not being able to put my sister and I through college. (We both undestand, of course, and found a way to put ourselves through, anyhow.) Second House Pluto always seems to have some power struggle issues with money, which is why I learned fairly early on to avoid arguing with him. (My own second house natal Saturn in Leo doesn't help my case any.) I do think on the other end of the chaos that he understands what really matters in life even better than he did before, and seems more easygoing now than he was before, though I still won't ever argue with him about money! The death/resurrection part of Pluto is very real. You are going through an extremely tough time now with this being a transit, but I am sure you will be much better for it on the other side, and will be much stronger than you might now believe that you will be. His father, Alexander III, who deliberately intended to keep his son uneducated in statecraft until the age of thirty, unfortunately miscalculated his own his own life expectancy….The new Czar, now forty-six, learned nothing…and the impression of imperturbability he conveyed was in reality apathy—the indifference of a mind so shallow as to be all surface. When a telegram was brought to him announcing the annihilation of the Russian fleet at Tsoshima, he read it, stuffed it in his pocket, and went on playing tennis. When the premier, Kokovtsov, returning from Berlin in November 1913, gave the Czar a personal report on German preparations for war, Nicholas listened to him with his usual intent, unwavering gaze, “looking straight into my eyes.” After a long pause, when the premier had finished, “as if waking from a reverie, he said gravely, ‘God’s will be done.’” In fact, Kokovtsov concluded, he was simply bored. --Barbara Tuchman's description on Czar Nicholas II, The Guns Of August. Texas Monthly has obtained a copy of this letter, which, as you might expect, focuses heavily on objections to Bush's policies: "We count ourselves among those who would regret to see SMU enshrine attitudes and actions widely deemed as ethically egregious: degradation of habeas corpus, outright denial of global warming, flagrant disregard for international treaties, alienation of long-term U.S. allies, environmental predation, shameful disrespect for gay persons and their rights, a pre-emptive war based on false and misleading premises, and a host of other erosions of respect for the global human community and for this good Earth on which our flourishing depends." It made me feel like I have a lot of nerve ever complaining. It also caused me that familiar feeling of wanting to stop the pain for others but not sure how, except to donate to organizations and pray. I could organize a protest but how would that help the homeless, displaced victims of war and violence? It just feels awkward. Just 5 wks after an overwhelming majority voted for departure from Iraq, the big debate in the media is whether or not we should increase troop levels - at a time when the Army's going broke. And yet, there's no public outcry about subverting the will of the [USia] people. Congratulations, GOP: Submission accomplished. Here's a quick reminder: 7 out of 10 [USians] want us out of Iraq within 2 yrs, & a majority want us out within 6 mos. (You could be forgiven for forgetting, since you haven't heard much about it lately.) Exit polls show that voters overwhelmingly made their decision based on Iraq. Yet as Arianna & others have observed, Harry Reid is indicating that he could support a "surge" - an increase in troop levels - provided that [regime] promised it would be only for a limited time, & with the purpose of withdrawing troops at a later date. The "surge" can become the foundation for the 4th Great Lie - which, like one of the the Great Lies that precedes it, involves that promise of "withdrawal" at some unspecified point in the future. So, while I hate to use a loaded leftist word like "oligarchy," what's a better term for a situation where a few people dismiss the expressed wishes of the electorate? According to James Rutz, chairman of Megashift Ministries & founder-chairman of Open Church Ministries, "A devil food is turning our kids into homosexuals." It seems Satan is lurking in... soy. Mr Rutz claims that "Soy is feminizing, & commonly leads to a decrease in the size of the penis, sexual confusion & homosexuality. That's why most of the medical (not socio-spiritual) blame for today's rise in homosexuality must fall upon the rise in soy formula & other soy products." After you stop laughing, examine Mr Rutz's preposterous – not to mention totally unsupported – claims. "Soy is feminizing, & commonly leads to a decrease in the size of the penis, sexual confusion & homosexuality." How does one even begin to respond to such nonsense? Since soy products such as tofu – which Mr Rutz says must be completely avoided – have been traditional parts of the Chinese & other Eastern diets for over 2000 yrs, shouldn't China be a totally homosexual nation by now? Similarly, since tofu is a staple in Buddhists' vegetarian diets, shouldn't all Buddhists be gay? ... http://www.smirkingchimp.com/thread/4025 Posted by: JoannaOregon on December 19, 2006 07:05 AM"We need another & a wiser & perhaps a more mystical concept of animals. They are just blogging other people's material, not anything original or creative that they have written. BTW, the articles are not that hard to find. Alot that are linked to AW are easlily accesible and at the expense of saying anything which has to do with astrology or creating dialogue. Linking only is monologue. Elections are just for show to keep people quiet with the illusion that their vote means something. So real dissent is short-circuited. The moneyed oligarchy really manages the theater like the wizard behind the curtain. It's far easier to let people say what they want than to silence them, especially when nobody gives a shit what they shout into the wind. It's far easier to let them vote for 1 of 2 owned bitches than to stop elections. News: Why you could soon be paying Wall Street investors, Australian bankers, and Spanish builders for the privilege of driving on American roads. By Daniel Schulman with James Ridgeway January/February 2007 Issue
The deal to privatize the Toll Road had been almost a year in the making. Proponents celebrated it as a no-pain, all-gain way to off-load maintenance expenses and mobilize new highway-building funds without raising taxes. Opponents lambasted it as a major turn toward handing the nation's common property over to private firms, and at fire-sale prices to boot. The one thing everyone agreed on was that the Indiana deal was just a prelude to a host of such efforts to come. Across the nation, there is now talk of privatizing everything from the New York Thruway to the Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey turnpikes, as well as of inviting the private sector to build and operate highways and bridges from Alabama to Alaska. More than 20 states have enacted legislation allowing public-private partnerships, or P3s, to run highways. Robert Poole, the founder of the libertarian Reason Foundation and a longtime privatization advocate, estimates that some $25 billion in public-private highway deals are in the works—a remarkable figure given that as of 1991, the total cost of the interstate highway system was estimated at $128.9 billion. On the same day the Indiana Toll Road deal closed, another Australian toll road operator, Transurban, paid more than half a billion dollars for a 99-year lease on Virginia's Pocahontas Parkway, and the Texas Transportation Commission green-lighted a $1.3 billion bid by Cintra and construction behemoth Zachry Construction to build and operate a 40-mile toll road out of Austin. Many similar deals are now on the horizon, and mig and Cintra are often part of them. So is Goldman Sachs, the huge Wall Street firm that has played a remarkable role advising states on how to structure privatization deals—even while positioning itself to invest in the toll road market. http://www.motherjones.com/news/feature/2007/01/highwaymen.html Posted by: Shadowhawk on December 20, 2006 05:28 AMBlackwell promoted that turnpike privatization garbage here in Ohio during his campaign for Governor. But Ohioans clearly told him where he could shove it. I seriously doubt this will take off, especially with roads that aren't already established as toll roads. Posted by: NEOBuckeye on December 20, 2006 05:32 AMNeo - I think PA is letting the deal go through on this one. I don't know about the others. Lou Dobbs was reporting on the PA turnpike the other night on his show. I find it appalling that the state's financials are in such bad shape that they have to sell off the roads to foreign countries tokeep them running. Hell, we've already got most of our ports run by foreign countries. Let's see the government is run by the corporations, the ports are owned by corporations, what else can they sell off? Posted by: Shadowhawk on December 20, 2006 06:28 AMShadowhawk, are they selling to other 'countries' or to foreign registered companies? I would bet on the latter - someone has found a good way to bleed assets from community ownership to anonymous individual company shareholders. Its about the consolodation of wealth on a global scale. Here in NZ certain public assets (railroad, telephone & electric infrastructure, etc.) got sold off in the late 80's/early 90's because the government was blinded by the offer of $$$$. The cost of service jumped exponentially, company profits were milked offshore, the asset purchased was not maintained, and the public are now left with inferior or terminated services and outdated and/or run down assets. And the foreign stockowners are smiling all the way to the bank. Posted by: kiwijeanie on December 20, 2006 09:07 AMHappy Solstice everyone! The Carlyle Group, a private massive equity firm, the 12th largest defense[offense] business w/an obscenely high profit margin, is a business "arrangement" between the bush & Bin Laden families, wealthy Saudis, former British PM John Major, James Baker III, Afsaneh Masheyekhi, Frank Carlucci, Colin Powell, former US Govt administrators, & Madeleine Albright's daughter. The Carlyle Group is the 'gatekeeper' to the Saudi investment community. It owns 70% of Lockheed Martin, the largest military contractor in the US, & because Carlyle is privately owned, it has no accountability. The Group hires lobbyists the best known politicians from around the world, to influence the politics of war, & privately profit from their previous public policies. The conflict of interest is obvious: gwbush is creating wars as his father, former President George Bush, is globally peddling weapons & "protection". Lockheed Martin Marietta now owns Sandia Laboratories, a private contractor that makes the trigger for nuclear weapons, w/a Sandia lab facility across the street from Los Alamos & Livermore Natl Labs, where the nuclear bombs are made. At a 5/03 UC Regents mtg Admiral Linton Brooks was present & newly in charge of the nuclear weapons programme under the Dept of Energy. Admiral Brooks informed California Lt Gov Cruz Bustamante & the UC Regents that the mgmt contract for the nuclear weapons labs, held unchallenged by the U of California for 60 years, will be put up for bid in 2005. The favoured institution, w/a faculty member on the 'blue ribbon committee' making the contract award, is the U of Texas. This privatisation & mgmt contract transfer of the US nuclear weapons programme will put control of the US nuclear weapons programme close to the Carlyle Group. The incestuous relationship between the US govt, private companies, & the bush & Bin Laden families in a way answers many of the questions in everyone's minds about the ill fated decisions & policies that have been implemented. http://www.mindfully.org/Nucs/2004/DU-Trojan-Horse1jul04.htm... Posted by: JoannaOregon on December 20, 2006 05:55 PMWhat server are you using JoannaO? Is It Now Illegal To Link To Other Websites? Paul Joseph Watson A landmark legal ruling in Sydney goes further than ever before in setting the trap door for the destruction of the Internet as we know it and the end of alternative news websites and blogs by creating the precedent that simply linking to other websites is breach of copyright and piracy. Following our report last month that an RIAA legal argument would, if the case was eventually won, criminalize simply making files available on the Internet, many readers scoffed at the serious implications of the case. Such a precedent would change the entire face of the Internet because "making files available" is so loosely defined it could criminalize simply placing links on ones website or blog to other websites. Some accused us of yellow journalism and scaremongering yet the warning that the Elektra vs. Barker case could criminalize the very mechanism that characterizes the Internet was not concocted by Alex Jones or Paul Joseph Watson, it was a statement made by the very lawyer fighting the case, Ray Beckerman. And that's exactly what has now happened in Sydney, where an Australian federal court has opened the door for simply linking to other websites to be classified as piracy. A landmark ruling was upheld against Stephen Cooper, who ran a website which acted as search engine for locating and downloading MP3's not from his own website but from other MP3 download websites. Cooper was charged with piracy and his ISP is also being targeted for not shutting down his website quickly enough. "Sabiene Heindl, general manager of Music Industry Piracy Investigations (MIPI) said the decision meant that anyone who stuck a link on MySpace or on their bogs could now expect a knock on the door from its briefs," reports the UK Inquirer. And for those who dismiss the precedent as only applying to those who link to copyrighted MP3 files, consider this - Cooper was only doing the same thing as Google in providing a means of finding files on other website. The MIPI is also preparing to take action against Google in "other jurisdictions," meaning it is building a case to sue Google for linking to all manner of different files from its search engine hub. http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/december2006/201206illegaltolink.htm Posted by: Shadowhawk on December 20, 2006 08:50 PMSee ya at the camps!
