ST. PETER DON’T YOU CALL ME ‘CAUSE I CAN’T GO
You load 16 tons and what do you get, another day older and deeper in debt, St. Peter don’t you call me cause I can’t go, I owe my soul to the company store. Dubai and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are making their run on the US of A. We must thank to the Bush Family and their “special relationship” with the Sultans of the Middle East for this amazing turn of events, and let’s not forget James Baker III. The President asked what the difference was between England managing our Ports and Dubai. One glaring reason would be that England is operated as a Democracy and UAE is not. That would be Sheikhs running around in those turbans on the sands of those seven UAE countries. Looks a lot like our president is exporting democracy and importing dictatorships into this country. As our young men and countless innocent Iraqi’s are “dying” for “freedom” in the Middle East, here at home we are offering billions to a country steeped in terrorism and autocracy. I love the WH spin on this with their accusations of “racism” against the Arabs. Oh please! George is worried they won’t like us in the Middle East if we refuse to turn our ports over to the UAE, since when has this administration been concerned over who liked them? Not recently. The UAE became an Emirates on Dec. 2, 1971 in Abu Dhabi (Noon time) and do they have an explosive chart. Although I don’t have the time they became the UAE I doubt if it was before 8 AM or later than 3 PM, so their Moon would fall anywhere between 6 and 11 Gemini opposite a 9 degree Sagittarius Sun. What or what could be explosive about that combination? Let’s see. The Sun and Moon are in a debilitating aspect to the US Uranus and transiting Uranus is aspecting those degrees right now with Mars zipping toward 8/9/10/11 Gemini. I forgot that GWB’s Mars squares it all as well as his progressed Sun. The UAE wants to wait 45 days for a cooling off period, our Congress is pushing against that wait and wants to go ahead now with a vote or a resolution. If they wait 45 days there will be a great deal of negativity information slipping out by then because transiting Uranus will conjunct their Mars and square their Jupiter, unexpected good luck for them that will ultimately spell a type of disaster for the Emirates. This is just another piece in the march toward Globalization and that is going to happen, however it doesn’t need to happen with the chaos and violence that’s been introduced just so “Corporate World” can put the masses under their heels. They’ve done this because in “corporate world” the rich are terrified that the poor will storm the Castile (so to speak) and reduce their controlled trillions to mere millions and worse yet, lose their power to the people. From their scared stiff perspective there is no other way but to crush the people in the hopes that they will never rise again and make sure we “owe our souls to the company store.” This isn’t new; it isn’t even a creative solution. The British East India Trade Company (Dec. 31, 1599, in London) tried pulling corporations under one umbrella in their version of “Free Trade” (when a government uses the term “free trade” they mean sold to the highest bidder no matter the cost) creating a monopoly on trade to India. Two years later in 1602, the Dutch East India Company was given a charter by the Netherlands granting it a monopoly to carry out colonial activities in Asia. They were the first multinational company in the world and the first to ever issue stock. They ended up being the largest and richest private company in the world but faltered in the late 1800’s due to their constant fighting with the British and French. At their height this private company had 50,000 employees, warships, 10,000 private military etc. The Dutch had quite an ambitious contingent of privatizing and consolidating their affairs. During the 1600’s there was an explosion of private corporations trying to consolidate GLOBAL money and power, how to rip off the world. The British East India Company was followed by the Dutch, the Danish and the French, Sweden tried to jump in with their own “East India” Company but not until 1731 and they only lasted about a hundred years. All were formed to “plunder and strip” untapped markets. They were all looking for places to gain money and resources and power. Nearly every war fought in Europe was between these entities or because of them, and all with the sanction of their governments. They actually destroyed each other by the 1800’s and the rabble left turned their eyes toward the New World, America. The United States of America was born of a revolt not just against British monarchs and the British parliament but against British corporations. We tend to think of corporations as fairly recent phenomena, the legacy of the Rockefellers and Carnegies. In fact, the corporate presence in pre-Revolutionary America was almost as conspicuous as it is today. There were far fewer corporations then, but they were enormously powerful: the Massachusetts Bay Company, the Hudson's Bay Company, the British East India Company. Colonials feared these chartered entities. They recognized the way British kings and their cronies used them as robotic arms to control the affairs of the colonies, to pinch staples from remote breadbaskets and bring them home to the motherland. Then came a legal event that would not be understood and remained baffling for decades, even today, and it would change the course of American history. That event (May 10, 1886, Santa Clara, CA) In Santa Clara County vs. Southern Pacific Railroad, a dispute over a rail bed route, the US Supreme Court deemed that a private corporation was a "natural person" under the US Constitution and therefore entitled to protection under the Bill of Rights. Suddenly, corporations enjoyed all the rights and sovereignty previously enjoyed only by the people, including the right to free speech. This 1886 decision ostensibly gave corporations the same powers as private citizens. But considering their vast financial resources, corporations thereafter actually had far more power than any private citizen. They could defend and exploit their rights and freedoms more vigorously than any individual and therefore they were more free. In a single legal stroke, the whole intent of the American Constitution -- that all citizens have one vote, and exercise an equal voice in public debates -- had been undermined. Sixty years after it was inked, Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas concluded of Santa Clara that it "could not be supported by history, logic or reason." One of the great legal blunders of the nineteenth century changed the whole idea of democratic government. The sovereignty of America has been losing ground ever since, and that May 10, 1886 decision has been used to bring us where we are today. The United States of America is owned by other countries, sold out from under us while we were busy living. This law is not only the hammer on the American people but it could also be our hope, if we work tirelessly to overturn the law. Some have tried to no avail but there has never been a widespread movement to do so, and we don’t get any help from the group sitting in Washington the last several years. Not even FDR tried to get it thrown out. You might call it the American version of the “East India Trade Company,” and transiting Uranus conjunct the South Node this spring and opposing the progressed Sun feeding into the Dubai chart might be the opportunity to challenge what corporations have come to think of as their right. The Abramhoff scandal, (which is a result of the excess of corporate lobbyists) has been one challenge. Although FDR didn’t try to change the law, he was able to beat back the encroachment of corporate domination during the depression and WWII. He was effective in clipping their wings until Ronald Reagan came to office and George Bush Sr. was his Vice-President. Uranus was in square aspect to their Mars and NN in the early 40’s, and the New Deal, dealt a harsh blow to corporate America. They feel they have another shot. The 1886 Sun is at 20 degrees Taurus and the progressed Moon is coming to a trine to that Sun. Taurus doesn’t give up what they believe to be theirs and corporations believe their rights trump the people’s rights. The progressed Moon is now conjunct the Sun and NN of the East India Chart (the first known government attempt at economic control and power over people) Something New is coming the way of corporations, the progressed Moon has not been there for 29 years, so it’s a new thrust of corporate dominance. It will be interesting to see if Pluto “eclipses” their dominance when it reaches 10/11 Capricorn. Like Taurus, like all the earth signs including Capricorn, when their misuse their energies it often translates to excessive fear and greed. The 1599 Charter of the British East India Trade Company started with a 10 degree Capricorn Sun and in 1874 they dissolved with a 10 degree Capricorn Sun, the trine to the NN signaled they would rise again. The Capricorn foundation model of Corporate power and ownership has not changed in over 500 years, except during the Revolutionary War when Pluto crossed 10 degrees Capricorn and the American Rebels successfully fought English Corporate Rule, the cosmic planetary line up is rapidly approaching that point again and in 2012 Pluto once again conjuncts 10 degrees Capricorn, right on the eve of a new dawn. One thing to remember, the internal power struggles between the “haves” end up doing as much damage to themselves as they do to the “have nots.” The New Moon at 9 degrees Pisces on the 27th of February sets in motion a very dramatic March, punctuated by two powerful eclipses and a Mercury Retrograde. Do the “cosmic storms” ever end? No they don’t!!! When it’s rain or shine, if a country, state, city, neighborhood or person’s mathematical coordinates are in the path of that cosmic storm, one way or the other that country, state, city, neighborhood, or person will be affected. The New Moon in Pisces could be a perfect set up for activating the Uranus transit to US Uranus, transiting Mars conjunct US Uranus, Dubia’s Sun and Moon, GWB’s Mars, and my Saturn. Tons of us are on line for this set up, including the US. It’s going to be a roller coaster ride with more scandalous hair pulling information leaking out. There isn’t any doubt this has already been a long haul, and there is more to come however, we have been pulling our “16 tons” for centuries and “the company store has owned our soul,” that is going to change over the next few years, there is the opportunity for real world wide life altering change. All of you seeking information regarding your own spirituality, your own connectedness to all others, your own higher consciousness are the fortunate ones, you will know what to do. One thing I know for sure that needs to be done by all who listen is to trust, learn trust on a daily, hourly basis and extend yourself to all you meet. You just don't know who might cross your path. Jupiter/Neptune Mars/Uranus (with New Moon in Pisces)Explosions, violence, accidents, sudden changes, emotional upsets, irritations, arguments, increased energy or frenzy, new groups or friends you meet unexpectedly, a cleaning out of the old to make way for the new. Oh, Cap'n Sally, you have responded magnificently to a post I made a few months ago about the #($*#@*( corporations. That 1886 "footnote" has long interested me, beginning many decades ago when I was in my teens and stumbled across mention of it, for it seems to be the key ingredient in the Devil's Brew in which we are stewing. Thank you thank you thank you!! The wait was worth it! "My country 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty . . " Posted by: shylurker on February 26, 2006 03:56 AMIt's grim, it's very grim but your "that is going to change over the next few years, there is the opportunity for real world wide life altering change," gives hope. We can hang on for the world to begin to turn. Thank you. Posted by: M. on February 26, 2006 04:45 AMExcelent! Great research. Thanks. Posted by: Beasley on February 26, 2006 04:59 AMI meant excellent!!!! Posted by: Beasley on February 26, 2006 05:00 AMSally this is just wonderful! Thank you so much for this promised article on corporations! I look forward to reading more as things progress. Posted by: kiwijeanie on February 26, 2006 05:04 AMFits right in! Be prepared to puke: In Nigeria, militants have kidnapped some officials from an oil company, three are American. The militants are demanding more money for their country from the oil companies or they will kill these officials. So now we have oil terrorists, hmmmm. Maybe just extremely desperate people with nothing left to lose. We will tragically see more of this in the future, there will be a war between the haves and have nots all over the world, sadly brought on by the obscene greed of the "haves." Posted by: Sally on February 26, 2006 06:24 AMThe 10 degree Capricorn factor is most interesting. At first I was hesitant to draw any conclusions about the Galactic Center, but I'm beginning to think there is definitely something going on. If this is so, I also think that the core of our faith in the goodness of life is being agitated and disseminated on the earth for those who want it. To replace the false beliefs. Out of every evil act, a good one is born. If we're honest with ourselves and feel we're worthy, I think genuine faith is ours to embrace with protection included. There is no reason to let the evil acts of people dominate our perceptions of life on earth, considering that for every bad deed there is a good one. Maybe this Galactic visit will strengthen the visibility of the positive, at least in our own eyes. It's a good idea sometimes to pay attention to the light giving activities that are always occurring, although not in the headlines. And I think that the center of our universe being opened now is offering us an unusual glimpse into the cosmic connection. I think maybe pressures on the earthly plane make this a necessity. Encourage us to reconnect us with something divine. Posted by: jm on February 26, 2006 10:27 AMThe Haves and the Have Nots....on which side of the fence do we fall? To the victims of Katrina, I am rich. I have a nice house, nice car, a career. To those spending their time fighting amongst themselves in Iraq and the starving child in Africa, I am wealthy beyond their imagination. Yet, compared to shieks, the Bushes, and the Hollywood A listers, I am definately a Have Not. So who ARE the Haves and the Have Nots? Which are we ("we" being the majority of hard working people in the US who have a pillow for their head, but who dream of better places). Astrolgocially speaking, which side of the fence do we fall? Posted by: oes on February 26, 2006 01:57 PMSally, this sweeping anaylsis is right on target. I was scratching my head when the Dubai controversy first came to light. It wasn't because "we the people" have a legitimate reason for being angry. Rather, it was because globalization has been occuring for quite some time. (Many cities throughout the US do not "own" their water resources; these being operated by uber-national corporations with home bases in Germany. There are so many other examples.) So, though i'm glad the "waking up" is now occuring, it is long overdue. Thank you, Sally. This was great! While I'm still in a philosophical mood (this may sound off subject, but it's not really...last night I watched a movie of a few years..."Instinct" with Cuba Gooding, Jr and Anthony Hopkins..about a man who lived with (and studied) apes, killed several men for killing the apes and was brought back to the US for psychological evalulation prior to trial. VERY interesting how it parallels what is happening to us today...illusions, so many of us are under the spell of our illusions. Posted by: oes on February 26, 2006 02:08 PMjm's comment: "...Pluto and the mass geopolitical garbage could be getting a workout. Certainly the religious hypocrisy is whirling around with golden temples coming down and religious fenzy at a high high pitch. I would think some of it would be going down the drain. ..." If one googles "churches burned in US," one can see a whole lot (not compared to how many there are...) of religious "temples" comin' down... including catholic ones. Burn here, burn there, everywhere a burn-burn. Some have said that mebbe it's insurance money the congregations are after... mebbe the Islamic congregations are after money?! No? Posted by: JoannaOregon on February 26, 2006 02:47 PMThe "haves" would be the ones who would do anything and step on anyone for a buck, they might be going up or down the ladder it doesn't matter. It isn't a dollar and cents issue, it's a poverty of spirit issue. The "haves" don't care if you live or die as long as they get theirs. They are people who value nothing and no one, not one living thing except their own agenda and will create human and environmental tragedy after tragedy to have what they think they want. Those are the "haves." and you find them from all walks of life. Posted by: Sally on February 26, 2006 03:44 PMWonderful, Sally. This is the best article I've seen on the big global shift that is becoming more and more apparent every day. We're certainly going to need fair and just representative governments to protect us from "Manchurian Global" as the remake movie refers to its multi-national corporation. Down with governments that are just corporate puppets. The Monday night new moon will be conjunct my natal Mars & Saturn conjunction in Pisces. (As if I wasn't having enough fun already.) Transiting Pluto has been conjunct my 8th House Venus for a while now, and every personal relationship in my life has changed. Saw a headline, "Pluto has two new moons" I guess they mean "new" to us. Will close by going from bad to verse: Bush says, "Rich Carlyle Group Arabs are A-OK; Sally, thank you for your new article-- it is very interesting and thought provoking. (And i cant even begin to think what this new moon inthe 5th house would mean!) Please forgive off topic post, but of all the "conspiracy" theories i have read this really raises pretty basic issues that need answers -- so basic that i dont understand why they havent been raised before: http://tbrnews.org/Archives/a2162.htm Excellent article Sally. For those who have not seen it I highly recommend the film The Corporation, which came out a couple of years ago. One of the co-directors did Manufacturing Consent. The film traces the history of the "corporation," focusing attention on that 1886 Supreme Court decision. There is some excellent commentary by a host of figures including Chomsky, Michael Moore and others. Posted by: Timothy on February 26, 2006 07:41 PMI should have provided this link: Congrats, Sally, this is an excellent piece. I printed it out for my Mundane astro articles file. You have a permanent, pre-eminent spot in my file cabinet! Corporatism is the new serfdom. That thought isn't new or even original but it resonates. Corporations are another level of warlords controlling, apportioning and sanctioning (for themselves) the resources of the world. Before too long "we" will probably have to pay "them" clean air rental fees per square foot of living space in which we reside. ENRON was in hopes of buying the Florida Everglades, bottling that water and selling it back to all of us who "own" America. The deal fell through when it went bankrupt taking many peoples' lifetime retirement dollars with it. I could go on forever. Thank you again for this wonderful article. -- Claudia You are so right Claudia, look at the services we pay for now that once were free, such as putting air in your tires at filling stations, a friend of mine told me the other day that at her beauty shop she got a hair cut ($75.00) and if she wanted it blown dry it would cost another $10. The list goes on and on so a price on breathing clean air in a world they have fouled, wouldn't suprise me. Posted by: Sally on February 26, 2006 08:17 PMThe UAE: Bush's Done Dubai Deal 10:26 AM 2/26/06 Sun With the Moon and Neptune in exact conjunction overhead at Penn's Landing, I thought this would be a perfect time to write this essay... This week's column by Charles Krauthammer accurately frames the issues swirling around the now held-up ports deal brokered between the Bush Administration and the United Arab Emirates, which is the home of the shipping giant Dubai Ports World. As we all know, some 6 key ports in the USA are up for grabs, with the former outfit being British-run, out of the picture, and the UAE's boys in. But, not so fast - both the loyal opposition Democrats, AND not a few Republicans, are bent on at least slowing the deal down, if not killing it outright. For now, they have the first round. It remains to be seen whether they will, however, win the bout. Krauthammer is correct in saying that the very same people who made such a stink about Racial Profiling in airports and subways, are the ones who now demand that out ports be run only by folks who look like Americans - and since not many Americans run ports these days, the Brits would do (as long as they were White, or at least not Arab looking). He's also correct, on the other hand, to point out that not only would DPW, but ANY ports outfit would by definition have access to critical security information. Of course, and these are my thoughts here, the fact that DPW has successfully run ports for other countries around the world without incident (while countries like uh, the UK have had subway bombings in "Londonistan") doesn't matter in the slightest; lest we forget, we mustn't be confused by the facts. Forget the fact that the UAE has been one of the USA's largest allies in the Middle East and Islamic World against Terrorism; true, they aren't as democratic as we'd like them to be - but then again, Pakistan isn't a paragon of free electoral virtue either, and yet, President Musharraf has literally risked his life on more than one occasion to help the USA out. Still though, the fact remains that out of some 4 million people in the UAE, only two have been involved in the Terror Attacks on Sep 11 (compared with at least 5 times as many who hailed from Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Osama Bin Laden - oh, and by the way, the Saudis have really gone out on a limb to fight Terror, too.). Not to make light of the situation, but really, come on folks - two people don't a Terrorist State make. While conspiracy theorists, party loyalists, nativists, stomp-down racists, hard-core leftists and Islamophobes, astrological or non, yammer on about this wholle thing, it might be useful for the rest of us free and clear thinkers to consider the astrological evidence: United Arab Emirates Dec 2 1971 12PM USZ3, Dubai; Placidus 27 Aqr 44, Campion This chart represents the founding of the UAE, and plays a crucial role in our examination of the DPW ports deal. It's interesting to note that this chart, like so many charts representing the Middle Eastern countries, has significant planetary activity in the Mutuable Signs; in this case, that of the UAE, no less than 7 planets are in Mutuable Signs. Which means that the UAE, for better or worse, would be effected in a big by the transits of Pluto, Uranus and eventually, Saturn. According to The Rulership Book by Rex Bills, the Moon and Neptune represent "ports"; by extension, we can add the 4th House as well. In the UAE chart, we can see the Full Moon in Gemini (the UAE being a conglomeration of smaller kingdoms) in the 4th House, opposing Neptune and Jupiter, and square Mars, rising in the 1st House in Pisces. Mercury, the ruler of the 4th, is placed in the 10th at the 28th degree of Sagittarius - the Pluto transit in conjunction is right around the corner. The radical jihadist elements in its midst can be seen by noting the planet ruling the 12th House of secret enemies and terrorists; here it is Saturn in Gemini, which, if we go back to the astrological moment when the WTC was struck, had Saturn in Gemini. There's our tie-in of the UAE, in the form of a few of the hijackers, coming from that particular country. Pluto would play a role as well, since Saturn makes an easy trine to Pluto in the 7th House, itself at the Aries Point. The terrorists want their cause and deeds to be well known. And we can't forget Neptune, in the 9th House of Religion, in opposition to this Saturn placement - again, the terrorists act out of warped understandings of Islam. However, note that the terrorist element in the UAE is not only a minority (Gemini symbolism, small) but so too it is vehemently in opposition to the UAE government - Saturn opposes the UAE Sun!!! AND, Saturn in this chart is not in conjunction with the UAE Moon, which moves away from Saturn. Saturn itself is Rx...suggesting a degree of isolation, of being outcastes. This is hardly a chart that would condone Terrorism. Now, contrast that with the chart of Iran: Feb 1 1979 9.50AM IRT, Tehran; Placidus 11 Ari 30, Campion. As we all know, Iran is a terrorist-sponsoring State, giving aid and comfort to such groups as Hezbollah and others. Note Uranus, ruling the 12th House, again of secret enemies and terrorists, disposing of the Iranian Sun, Mars, and Mercury - the seat of power (Sun), the military (Mars) and media apparatus (Mercury) all explicitly help the terrorists! Note too the Iranian Moon IN the 12th House, with Uranus itself Peregrine (Tyl), running wild in the chart, dominating it in terms of its symbolism ("the revolution", etc.). Iran's astrology clearly and emphatically points to a State Sponsor of Terror. The UAE, on the other hand, clearly is not. If you consider the charts of Syria and Libya, you'll see similar things with regard to their 12th Houses and the tie-ins they make to either the 10th House and/or Sun. Now that we've got that out of the way, let's consider the big question: will the UAE deal go through? Going back to the UAE's chart, it would appear so: SA Venus=Jupiter/Pluto last month, a major signal of financial success, and could indicate that that was the time when the ports deal was greenlighted by the Bush Administration (deals being signed - Venus rules the 3rd); and coming up in Apr, SA Pluto=Sun/Venus, yet another strong signal of success in business, this time with clear reference to international business (Pluto ruling the 9th). The current stink about Arabs running American ports shouldn't last much longer - remember, all this happens as Uranus squares the UAE Full Moon axis. Uranus isn't a flood like Neptune or longstanding plauge like Pluto, it's more like a twister. It'll hit and be gone, as swift as it came. The UAE has been gracious in allowing US lawmakers and so on time to review the deal, but in the end, it'll go through. But back here at home, the American public is all in a tizzy over the whole thing, and it smacks dangerously close to Racism to me. Using the Sibly chart for the USA, we see that Neptune, representing phobias, is in the 9th House of "other people", religions and cultures. Mars, ruling the 4th - ports - squares this Neptune position from the 7th, and there you go. However, big money is on the line, shown by the upcoming arcs of Pluto=Uranus/Neptune and Mercury=Asc, both coming due in Apr. Mercury and Pluto are in the 8th and 2nd Houses respectively, and with the exactness of these Solar Arcs near, we can be sure that the deal is likely to go thru around that time, if not sooner. As for the American public's phobia of Islam in general and Arabs in particular, we can expect to see all of that come to head around the sametime, Spring of this year; there will be much conversations, tv & radio shows, internet discussions and roundtable forums, on exactly what Islam is and isn't, and how that goes to distinguish between folks just trying to live their lives and those who want to snuff out ours (Mercury co-ruling the 9th, in opposition to Pluto natally, ruling the 7th). Now, take a deep breath...relax...and carefully read Charles Krauthammer's article. It makes a lot of sense. Salaam, Harbour exit Email to a friend Print this page Text size: A A WASHINGTON -- If only Churchill were alive today, none of this would be happening. The proud imperialist would have taken care that the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co., chartered in 1840 by Victoria ("by the grace of God ... Queen defender of the faith'' on "this thirty first day of December in the fourth year of our reign''), would still be serving afternoon tea and crumpets on some immaculate Jewel-in-the-Crown cricket pitch in Ceylon. And we hapless Americans -- already desperately trying to mediate, pacify and baby-sit the ruins of Churchill's Empire: Iraq, Palestine, India/Pakistan, Yemen, even (Anglo-Egyptian) Sudan -- would not be in the midst of a mini-firestorm over the sale of the venerable P&O, which manages six American ports, to the UAE. This has raised the obvious question of whether we want our ports, through which a nuclear bomb could come, handled by a country two of whose nationals flew into the South Tower on 9/11 and which has a history of laundering money and nuclear secrets from bad guys to worse guys.
Gleeful, and shamelessly hypocritical. If a citizen of the UAE walked into an airport in full burnoose and flowing robes, speaking only Arabic, Democrats would be deeply offended, and might even sue, if the security people were to give him any more scrutiny than they would to my sweet 84-year-old mother. Democrats loudly denounce any thought of racial profiling. But when that same Arab, attired in business suit and MBA, and with a good record running ports in 15 countries, buys P&O, Democrats howl at the very idea of allowing Arabs to run our ports. (Republicans are howling too, but they don't grandstand on the issue of racial profiling.) On this, the Democrats are rank hypocrites. But even hypocrites can be right. There is a problem. And the problem is not just the obvious one that an Arab-run company, heavily staffed with Arab employees, is more likely to be infiltrated by terrorists who might want to smuggle an awful weapon into our ports. But that would probably require some cooperation from the operating company. And neither the company nor the government of the UAE, which has been pro-American and a reasonably good ally in the war on terror, has any such record. The greater and more immediate danger is that as soon as the Dubai company takes over operations, it will necessarily become privy to information about security provisions at crucial U.S. ports. That would mean a transfer of information about our security operations -- and perhaps even worse, about the holes in our security operations -- to a company in an Arab state in which there might be employees who, for reasons of corruption or ideology, would pass this invaluable knowledge on to al Qaeda-types. That is the danger and it is a risk, probably an unnecessary one. It's not quite the end of the world that Democratic and Republican critics have portrayed it to be. After all, the UAE, which is run by a friendly regime, manages ports in other countries without any such incidents. Employees in other countries could leak or betray us just as easily. The issue, however, is that they are statistically more likely to be found in the UAE than, for example, in Britain. It's a fairly close call. I can sympathize with the president's stubbornness in sticking to the deal. He is responsible for our foreign relations, and believes, not unreasonably, that it would harm our broader national interest to reject and humiliate a moderate Middle Eastern ally by pulling the contract just because a company is run by Arabs. This contract should have been stopped at an earlier stage, but at this point doing so would cause too much damage to our relations with moderate Arab states. There are no very good options. The best exit strategy is this: (1) Allow the contract to go through; (2) give it heightened scrutiny by assigning a team of U.S. government agents to work inside the company at least for the first few years to make sure security is tight and information closely held; (3) have the team report every six months to both the executive and a select congressional committee. Not nearly as clean as the Harriet Miers exit. But as I said, there are no very good options. There have not been very many since Britannia stopped ruling the waves, and it all fell to us. Charles Krauthammer is a 1987 Pulitzer Prize winner, 1984 National Magazine Award winner, and a columnist for The Washington Post since 1985. Timothy, you beat me to it.....I watche The Corporation last night, and couldn't believe it when Sally wrote about the very same thing. And thanks for the link to the film company, also....I think everyone needs to see this film. The first thing that struck me was the guy who said the official start of the Industrial Age was in 1712, when the first steam powered 'bucket' was used in coal mining to get the water out of the mines, instead of the miners passing buckets. A Plutonian cycle being 248 years, that gives us a date of 1960 for the end of one cycle and beginning of the next, which makes sense to me....was this the true beginning of the WORLD corporation? Amazing film....I wanted to immediately buy a lot of them and give them to everyone I know....but I figure just telling people to check it out would do.... And Sally...Bush always said he liked the idea of a dictatorship but only if HE was the dictator....after all, he grew up with the Prince Bandar of the UAE in his home....so he saw it up close and personal, what personal power and wealth meant. No surprise.... Posted by: JudiG on February 26, 2006 09:17 PMWell, & one would think that a nation could have a better lookin' dicktator than the little pink prancin' beetle-browed drunkie/druggie AWOL/deserter one we might have. ;O) Posted by: JoannaOregon on February 26, 2006 09:36 PMStrawman alert! Major concern about the UAE and security of American ports has its basis in the fact that much of the funding for Al-Q went through the UAE, the "deal" specifically relieves UAE of responsibility for keeping records and other documents available on US soil and available for inspection by US officials, the UAE's royals' close relationship with Osama bin Hiding, etc. To say that objections are simply racist is an insult --not only to those who aren't racist but also to those with a brain. Posted by: shylurker on February 26, 2006 09:40 PMThe Starcats piece is timely.....once again, the planets play out what people are playing out, and there couldn't be much worse in store for American women.... It makes me physically ill to think that women are once again underfire...it is the "Handmaiden's Tale" syndrome taking place. What gives me hope is that when injustices are SO evil and SO restrictive, the people rise up.....which is profiled in The Corporation, only in this case, it was about water (Bechtel vs. Bolivia) and seeds (India vs Monsanto) and then there is the whole evil concept of 'patenting' human genes, animal genes.....that was also sucessfully fought in India....and why is it not an issue here? After all, all of our milk is contaminated in America with the Monsanto BST/BGH.....oh that is right....corporations also own the news. Wake up South Dakota! But with those planetary placements, it is a longshot. P&O wasn't sold to the UAE by P&O...(Lord Inchcape) it was sold to THE CARLYLE GROUP, which sold it to UAE, which of course makes it SO much more interesting. Would Churchill have stopped THAT sale? Just wondering.. (remember the Carlyle group is a PERSON, now isn't it? Bush Sr. in fact...) Bushdruggie Dictator is merely cementing family relationships. Everything for sale in and of America? Well..that HAS been going on a long time. It just happens to be seeing the light of day....and why, astrologically, is this happening now? And PS...Churchill and the first Lord Inchcape (P&O) were quite good friends (I have the pictures of them together on Lord Inchcape's personal yacht, which seems to be the size of a destroyer class ship - or the state of Delaware, I'm not sure which.). Too bad they weren't still around. Posted by: JudiG on February 26, 2006 10:06 PMAdding to my previous note about 1960 as the beginning of a new cycle since the Industrial Age, it occurred to me after I wrote that that perhaps it is the beginning of the TECHNOLOGY age...! Posted by: JudiG on February 26, 2006 10:08 PMOES...about the haves and have nots. I think there needs to be a 'base' line of some kind in terms of what we have and have not...it is a good question. As Claudia mentioned in her article at Starcats, whe is one of the 46 million without healthcare insurance. ME TOO.... compared to a peasant in Bolivia, I would have been a 'have'.....and they a have not. (Of course, we DO pay for water here, but not 1/4 of our incomes as they were forced to do by Bechtel.....they were even restricted from collecting RAINWATER for their use! talk about trenchant evil.) Now they are haves at least for water, as they beat the system and won the case against WTO/Bechtel. Time to start working on the sweatshop labor.... PS...it you paid $78 for a Liz Claiborne shirt, and the 13 year old seamstress supporting 8 people on the 10 cents she makes on making that shirt in the proscribed 6 minutes and 48 seconds she must do it in, do we even have to ASK who is and who isn't a have? Posted by: JudiG on February 26, 2006 10:28 PMI am going to have to find "The Corporation" after reading Timothy's link to it, it sounds fascinating. Judi, I think everyone remembers when GWB made the "dictatorship" remarks, at least those who were paying attention at that time. Rove or someone shut those remarks down really quick, he made them twice. 1960 would not have been the start of the "World Corporation" that would have been back in 1599 when the multi-nationals joined together and then other countries, in an attempt to cash in on their corporations just kept adding. Nonetheless, by 2020 if not a bit before, they will have imploded and the march toward justice will begin again. We are just fighting the same old battles and without divine intervention, we will have the same old outcomes. I am waiting for the shoe to drop on the GOP lite Democrats Posted by: Sally on February 26, 2006 10:44 PMI sure hope that shoe drops soon, Cap'n Sally. This one's for you Garry. See what you can find out about it. oes, you bring up a good point in trying to ascertain truthfully where you stand in the world's hierarchy. We do have so much in this country, and part of why we do is our support of the corporate structure. We've enjoyed all the things they've delivered for ages and have demanded more and more. The whole collective created this and by refusing to acknowledge our parts in it, we are holding up the solution. We all have the human void within, and most of us suffer from an unnamed emptiness that results in greed for material commodities. The plundering, stealing, and destruction of others to gain more is criminal, but a fact of life. It goes deeper than the existence of corporate businesses. Now that the corporations have become cancerous in their growth, we have to figure out what to do. Separating completely and seeing them as the enemy, won't work, because we are all dependent on them now. They are an extension of the group and the fix will have to come from within as well. To try to control them completely is impossible. Circumstance will have to help rein them in as well. Earlier on, we developed laws and labor unions to control the exploitation, but once again it's gotten out of control. As long as we are feeding them they will thrive. If you honestly count up all the petroleum products you willingly consume each day, you will see the trap. No matter who's to blame, the trap is here. They exist because of our money. So the way out is the real question. That seems to me to be a conscious way of living and withdrawal of money from as many corporations as we perceive as monstrous. We can pool our resources, trade among the group, support local businesses, recycle, and all those things. We can't directly take them down with rage, or without a replacement. We have to figure a way to wean ourselves from the addiction to their products to the extent that we consume them. The more we cut back on consumption, the weaker they become. At the same time, the practices of the companies have to be monitored but this is a gargantuan task. If we see ourselves, not as victims, but also as controlling parts of the whole, then we have a better chance of being victorious. We have to recognize our power, which is considerable. People don't want to do these things because it's the hard way. But the more we grapple with our own desires and gain control over them, the more successful we will be, especially now that Pluto in Capricorn could be our ally. The corporations that supply our wants and needs for survival have become like parts of our bodies. So like any diseased part, we have to consider whether we want, amputation, surgery, medicine, or alternative healing. Sally, yeh, I corrected myself later....I was confusing the Age of the Industrial Revolution with World Corporations...I think what Pluto did then was usher in the tech revolution....it had been underway for a while, but the 60's seem to have been a turning point for so much! And if that giant revolutionary cycle of 500 years holds true, then from 1599 to 2099 will be the finis to it. so the waning square would be operating, no? However, from 1892 or so and the Neptune Pluto in Gemini cycle, we are only in the first approaching square. I am doing this from memory, as I studied those huge cycles about 10 years ago....and don't have the info in front of me. but one 1/4 cycle of 120-125 years also is the range used in Howe and Strauss's book The Fourth Turning as an overall generation (4 types in one overall generation). Terrific article once again, Sally.... Posted by: judiG on February 26, 2006 10:57 PMSally...you are kidding me, no? YOU HAVEN"T SEEN THE CORPORATION ????? You just wrote the script for it (except they didn't go back to 1599)...congrats on your psychic read! Rent it from Netflixs or buy it at the zeitgeist web site. Posted by: judiG on February 26, 2006 10:59 PMCertainly, jm, we should watch where we spend our money, and many of us try to do just that. But we also (assuming our votes count--and that's a scary thought) need to impress upon our elected representatives to quit giving our money to the corporations who are in it only to enrich themselves. Remember how hard we had to fight to get equal funding for girls' sports? Remember how hard we had to fight to get equal opportunity for ALL persons? To me, this is the same kind of fight. Spend our collective money (i.e., taxes) as economically as possible--but also spend the money on enterprises which give back to the community (local, national and global) rather than hogging it all for themselves and their cronies. Sigh. I probably should go back under the bed for awhile. Again, wonderful article, Cap'n Sally, and while I was chomping at the bit over the past few months for it to appear, it was worth the wait. Thank you. Posted by: shylurker on February 26, 2006 11:08 PMPS Sally...in the movie, watch for the fellow named Ray Anderson who is CEO of a company which produces carpeting....mundane enough, but this fellow is amazing. He is a role model for corporate rebirthing. And he walks the walk ... his company will be self sustaining by 2020. His wake up call came in 1992 or 94....so it takes a while to turn things around. But the important act was to recognize the need in the first place! And what we see with our eyes now is that these really greedy people who ARE the corporate personhoods haven't got a friggin clue - that is the crisis. Posted by: judiG on February 26, 2006 11:10 PMI'm not waiting for something bad to happen to anyone else to get me out of this. although it is bound to come. There's a lot that can be done personally right now. Judi, I think we are definitely in a transition moving out of the post Industrial Revolution paradigm, where the fascist military industrial complex ruled, and on to an unknown setup. Hence the confusion and fear. The old structure is wiggling like a shot of antibiotic just hit it and it is struggling to survive hopelessly. A lot of the stranglehold has been around the transportation of goods in the old world. The elite control of shipping lines and trade routes has controlled population distribution and whole economies. As we move on to this new computer driven age, the transporting will change. If we ideally learned to provide for ourselves more locally, the stranglehold would break. A banana from South America makes them rich. An apple from the nearby orchard is a simple inexpensive joy. Judi, thank you so much for the reference to the Fourth Turning. For the last week I've been trying to remember the name of that book, or the author. This is wonderful. I felt a huge need to look at it right now. JudiG, jm...you are welcome....I went to high school with Bill Strauss (with is older brother Steve in my class)....and I have a copy of the book. I liked that certain things dovetail. Shylurker, the movie also says what you have said...that corporations use our government to do all the things they don't want to do or can't do....hence, our military going into make oil safe, or our CIA helping keep despots in place to protect corporate intersts. Is it any wonder that Congress is shilling for them? Oh...everyone, get a copy of the movie and meet back here to discuss!!!! Just wanted to reply to some of what you said: JG: "But back here at home, the American public is all in a tizzy over the whole thing, and it smacks dangerously close to Racism to me." The furor is about George W. Bush, The Carlyle Group, shadowy and secretive deals, and the fact that this was conducted in SECRET. Really, the whole Carlye thing is so old...and Krauthammer is right, it's the height of hypocrisy for Dems on the one hand flail about when Racial Profiling is brought to bear on Arabs in airports and subways, but then they are quick to use Racial Profiling when it comes to the ports. It's intellectually dishonest AND it's political opportunism at its worst. Look Judi, I can respect the fact that you're on teh Astro-Left and that you can't stand Bush nor anything that he does, for any reason, at anytime, anywhere in the Universe. Fine, all well and good. But at least have the guts enough to say that upfront, and have the wits to present a cogent astrological argument to back up your thesis - like I did. On the basis of the UAE chart, proofed by Campion, I made the bold statement that it DOES NOT support Terrorism, and then presented the chart of a nation that has a documented track of doing so, Iran. Now, if you're telling me that the UAE can't be trusted - WHERE'S your astrological evidence? I'm interested in verifiable facts, not CONspiracy theories. And by the way, this is coming from an African American, who just happens to also be a Muslim and an Astrologer, and a small "c" conservative. Your Serve... Salaam, Great article Sally.lots of depth to it. Oh new moon in my 10th house; conjunct uranus! This morning the BBC had an interesting short segment on a new nuclear power plant being built in Denmark or Norway. Did not catch the whole thing, but it definitely got my attention. Apparently it is a PRIVATE rather than governmental nuclear facility. Technology from France. Deal was done with the OK of the politicians because it no taxpayer dollars used - the corporate builders of the structure are in cahoots with the majority of its future power users, which are corporate businesses. Need to find out more about it! Posted by: kiwijeanie on February 26, 2006 11:52 PMThanks again, Judi. I think it works something like this. An example being the ancient Silk Road. The trade routes become profitable and the greed gets going. So illegal trade takes over...drugs, weapons, and other things. Unregulated, tax free, and high risk thrilling. The criminal element around the Black Market thrives and wars are created to sell the weapons. Terrorist groups are funded to incite the wars. The banks become money laundering posts for the trade. And this not only increases crime but squeezes out legitimate business. Governments are in on the profit taking and so the treasuries are raided and politicians become accomplices. It appears that the world economy is run on illegal trade and bribery. This is the problem with UAE. They are the old BCCI, Iran Contra bunch, big time money launderers. What fool would think this has changed? Tom Dispatch has a good interview with Mark Danner called You Can Do Anything With a Boyonet Except Sit On It.....he wrote about Abu Graib and the dicey foreign relations policies of bushfromhell.http://www.tomdispatch.com/index.mhtml?emx=x&pid=63903 Hi JM, I have to ask - OK, let's take Afghanistan, where Heroin is King. You mean to tell me, that the US gov't is propping up the Taliban forces there against its own military? Do you mean to tell me that the terrorist with Zarqawi, who've vowed an all out war against the Shiite majority there, and who no doubt was behind the bombing of the Gold Mosque, is actually working in cahoots with the US gov't - again, against its own military??? What proof do you have of ANY of this being true? And what the heck does this have to do with Astrology??? I mean really folks, let's all get a serious grip...talk about being blinded by the left... Salaam, Hey everyone, Here's something fascinating to think about. On the DU Astro thread someone brought up that * ASC is on a malefic fixed star of Praesaepe at 5 Leo. So looking up the fixed star here is what I came up with: Histrionic effects brought about by great changes in society. Star played a role in the intro of communism. Aspecting outer planets during both world wars. Associates to 'Beehive' or the cluster of planets it sits in = obedience, royalty, 'suave one', Mr. Bey seems to be a hit and run poster. Pluto/Shiva on GC and MahaShivaratri : great time to clean up old karmas. Go For It! Synchronistic phone calls coming in today that cleaned up some old yukky stuff lickety split. Great timing for the darkest of moons. My studio gleaming and minimal. Candle on the puja shining. Exotic and profound Om Namah Shivaya chanting tape playing in the background. Getting ready to ride the eclipse wave, you can just feel it coming.
Hi Again JudiG, I'm curious: has there been ANY time where the US military did the right thing, in your eyes? If so, please tell me when? I for one, the great-great grandson of African Slaves, am GLAD that the US military fought and died to free my people, African Americans. And I'm proud of my grandaddy, who was a US Marine Drill Sargent, who did his part to liberate Jews in Germany...and I'm proud of my daddy, who fought in Korea so that they might have the chance to be the economic and social force and example of progress that's something to really marvel at over there on the other side of the world. Sure, there have been mistakes by the US military, ANY military will make mistakes and have its share of crazies, but there is no way in hell that they are comparable to Sudan's military, of the Lourde's Resistance Army in Congo, or Saddam's Republican Guard. So for you to even attempt to suggest an equation somehow, by constantly putting down the US military, is not only delusional and devoid of any actual truth in fact, but very, very ungrateful. And please, don't try to pin the GOP button on me, I'm not a registered Republican at all, and they ain't giving me nothin' either...I just love fairness and intellectual honesty. Afterall, I have more planets in Libra than any other Sign (including Mars in Libra in the 9th - going into the heart of the Astrological Left and doing battle there). Please explain - if you can??? Salaam, Mu, I have no evidence of the things you mentioned and I certainly wouldn't claim these things as fact. There are many conflicts and trades going on, and I believe that our government as well as the others in the world are involved in the illegal activity, as they've always been. As far as the specifics, I don't know yet. But I think the evidence will eventually be revealed. The evidence of our government's involvement with drugs and weapons in Iran Contra has been proven and the bank funding the operation, BCCI was closed. Posted by: jm on February 27, 2006 12:18 AMMu....well, first of I AM NOT AN ASTROLOGER. I do not do charts for a living.....so I am not spending my time doing that. I am an artist and spend zillions of hours doing artwork. That being said, I also understand astrology. And these aren't conspiracy theories. And nowhere did I dis the people of the UAE, which is what you are implying (and the GOP mouthpieces are promoting....RACISM? give me a break). I am dissing this administrations tactics, their ideas, and everything else they do, most of which is CRIMINAL. I understand criminal. And I have done very badly financially under the two adminsitrations of chimp jr and sr. GWHB the arab potentate himself. The entire Bush family is criminal. All the brothers, the father, the grandfather (who was the financier to Hitler). Check your history books before you yell at me. AND, btw, the Earl of Inchcape (P&O Shipping) DIDN'T SELL TO THE UAE....HE SOLD P&O TO CARLYLE. You ignore that Krauthammer got it wrong. As he does many things. He is one of the grimmest men I've ever heard speak. Posted by: judiG on February 27, 2006 12:20 AMHi Bhakti, No, I don't hit and run; I post when I can; it's called having a life and a job. And, what the heck are you talking about? Sounds like you're trying to blend Western Astrology with Vedic, and doing quite a bad job of it; I've been deeply into Vedic astrology since the late 90s, and know BS when I hear it. Talk straight and make a cogent astrological argument with the standard planets and holla back. Pardon me when I light up some Nag Champa... Salaam, Bhakti...well thanks for reminding me...my Pluto is natally 5 Leo....and Saturn is retro and conjuncting it. hahahahah Posted by: judiG on February 27, 2006 12:22 AMJM, So, let me get this straight - the ONE instance where it was proven that an arms for hostages deal went down, is evidence enough to impune the entire history of the US Presidency and gov't? I mean, what is it with y'all? I understand being skeptical and all that, but it reminds me of what John McWhorter said about Black folks nowadays being oppositional just to be oppositional...I mean, you gotta have something substantial, to have a leg to stand on, before you go off half cocked. This is why you can't attract votes from Middle America, because you come off as American-hating ultra-leftists. Holla back... Salaam, Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, such bad manners. Big deal what you do. Happy Shivatratri Ya'll, the Goddess Is Here NOW! JudiG, Hi Again...OK, let's sort this out... You say you understand "criminal"; what has Bush or his father, Bush 41, done that was criminal? Please explain? What Nixon did was criminal. What LBJ, regarding Vietnam, you could make an argument for being criminal. But you meant to tell me that all those purple fingers in Iraq was the result of criminal actions? Huh??? Hey, I made serious loot when Clinton was Prez too, but I'm eating now and got a roof over my head and obviously have the leisure time to go back and forth with you and others online...so relax and chill, have a Coke and a smile. And try to learn some Astrology beyond that of a beginner so you'll have something to back up your arguments. Salaam, Mu....when did I say, when did I say, anything about the military in terms of what you just asked me? Listen to me Mu, my great grandfather was a lawyer, and he freed slaves. His case in Oregon was (one of) the basis for Oregon entering the union as a non slave state. I am descended from 150 years of Quakers (you might find me a bit anti military there in that philosophy), from the time that the good corporation head John Endicott of the Mass. Bay colony hanged my 13th great grandmother, who was one of the early Quakers in the 1600's. ) My ancestors (I don't want to say my last name, but it is the name born by a great many of the famous black regiment in the Civil War)....they were abolitionists and ran underground railroads in Ohio. Some of my best friends are African American. I've also been present when I saw young people (women) beaten by police in Los Angels. I am born with Saturn conj. my sun in Gemini. I am by nature, anti military, anti war, anti authority, and anti religion. If you don't like it, at least respect it. And there are two sides to everything....witness all the Japanese Americans who died in WWII fighting in Europe against the Fascist allies. War was still hell, and I was born in the war, in Honolulu, and my dad worked at Pearl Harbor. I grew up in a war culture. Every war is different and every war culture is different. But at the bottom of all of war, is the necessity to make money, make profit, and the military is being used today to support that goal. But you are mistaken...I am not dissing the soldiers, I am dissing the people who put them where they give their lives for someone else's profit. And I would dare to say that everyone on this board could tell a similar story, my apologies to the rest of you for all of this....but I would bet that all of you would say the same thing. Posted by: judiG on February 27, 2006 12:35 AMHi Bhakti, It's to be expected from folks like yourself who spout off that pie in the sky rhetoric that's 3 miles wide and less than a quarter of an inch deep. Perhaps perpetual meditation is just what the doctor ordered, while the rest of us deals in the real world. Salaam, PS: I wonder why is that NONE of my Indian clients - folks who were born and raised on the subcontinent - have never come to me wanting to know "the meaning of life" - they instead wanted to know, I don't know, little insignificant things like, when their daughter was going to get married, or when their immigration papers were going to come thru, or whether they would win a litigation case. Y'all new jacks to Vedanta need to seriously get with the program. Mu, I suggest that you learn some manners, before you tell me what to do and determine that I am a beginner. Posted by: judiG on February 27, 2006 12:37 AMOh my Mu, you've stepped in it now. No one lives well after dissing Bhakti. Posted by: judiG on February 27, 2006 12:38 AMWell Mu, I did some work for you on criminal Bushs....where do you suppose all their money came from? You sound like it, with all due respect. True, Times change, but wars have often been about money, and I don't necessarily see anything wrong with that. OK, let's put it this way - would you rather Zarqawi have the money, oil, etc.? Hmm? Would that suit you? How about Saddam? Hmm? Would that be cool? And I live in perhaps the Quaker stronghold, PA, so I know them well. I'm down with what they did, deeply appreciate that, even can respect their pacifist stance. Cool. But I don't respect this get-Bush-at-any-cost deal going down right now. It looks insincere, it feels phony, and most of all, it sounds like seriously sour grapes (going back to 2000). I thought we all would have learned the Lesson with the recent Rx transit Mars in Taurus...War is necessary, because it's part of the Human Condition to be Evil, to be Selfish, to be Greedy, to be Ideologues. I know Astrology is full of folks like you who want folks like Zarqawi to make nice with Oprah, but the real deal is, while you're here excoriating Bush and Co. folks like Zarqawi will just as soon lop your head off as to look at you - and me too - and I'm a Muslim! I say take them out. Before they take us out. ANd by the way, Zarqawi's family has disowned him, on BBC radio, right after the bombings in Amman, Jordan. I heard the whole thing. Back to you... Posted by: Mu'Min M. Bey on February 27, 2006 12:45 AMHi JudiG, Just saw the article you made reference to. OK, let's do it this way: let's assume that the article is 100% accurate. OK? OK. Now - didn't JFK's dad do some dirty stuff too, that ended up making LOTS of money? Didn't he have dealings with the Chi-Town mob - which played a role in his boy JFK getting elected Prez? I mean, let's do this accross the board, not be selective with it. AND even if it were so - so what? Again, do you mean to tell me that all those purple fingers - some 11 million of them back in Dec 2005 - doesn't count? Please explain? Lastly - I'm not being mean when I say that you should learn more Astrology before jumping in...afterall, Mundane Astrology is considered by most pros to be a specialized area of study, and one needs to be up on their historical, cultural and astrological facts before they open their mouths. And one other thing - Krauthammer may be wrong, fair enough. But what about what I said, regarding the UAE vs. Iran? Oh, I forgot, you can't answer that, you don't know enough...so your opinions, which have little if any basis in astrological fact will just have to do... Salaam, No....I don't have the desire to get into it with you. We will see if purple fingers become very scarce in this country soon, also. And you really are just totally rude and insufferable. Posted by: judiG on February 27, 2006 01:32 AMOK, I'll bite in an attempt to educate. Mu says "OK, let's take Afghanistan, where Heroin is King." Actually, heroin is not king in afghanistan. But opium poppies have been grown there since before the days of Buddah. I have a friend who is of afghani origins and talking to him about the culture and history of that region has been rather enlightening. If military might were the solution to conflict, the palestinian issue should have been solved by now. Instead, despite almost 60 years of continued Israeli superior military strength, chaos still rules. And despite the US military no-contest superiority, there are more global wars today affecting more and more people. Think and Connect the dots - there's profit to be made in war weaponry and support systems. Your "I say take them out Before they take us out." does not sound very enlightened or spiritual to me. Methinks thou dost protest too much. End of bite. Posted by: kiwijeanie on February 27, 2006 01:32 AMNo Mu, I was not born in the late 1930's. You obviously don't have a clue as to astrology, do you? Posted by: JoannaOregon on February 27, 2006 01:41 AMkiwijeanie....thanks kid....everyone on this board has a different area they are good in, or have expertise in, or are exposed to, which is what makes this such an interesting blog. Everyone adds what they know.....it is the ancient yogic vision of life....the holographic vision which we all create, each from our own viewpoint. It is all good. It is all real. But we don't also have to apologise for our own vision. But one thing is true, where ever we be.....greed and corruption follow the money. Just imagine if we had dropped butter and grain in Afhanistan.....and building materials. But the intent was never to help the people, it was simply to plant our strawman there.....and it certainly wasn't to get Zar & OBL.... Joanna....shun works for me. One of the few things which, besides the furniture and boxes, has survived the Shaker community. Go with what works! Posted by: judiG on February 27, 2006 01:44 AMHi Kiwi, I don't bite. But I will engage your comments... OK, call it poppy, call it heroin, it's semantics...we all know what we're talking about. And you never answered straight away the question - no, I don't want connect any dots. The question is very simple - are you saying that the US gov't is backing those who are making poppy cultivation possible, against its own military? Is that what you and others are saying? And if so, what evidence - not dot connecting, but hard, solid, evidence - do you or anyone else has to back this up? I've had the good fortune of coming into contact with Muslims from around the world, and that includes Afghanistan. I agree with you, the history of the place is very interesting indeed. But I must disagree with you regarding War and its history...actually, there are fewer wars today than they were say, 500 years ago. Have we forgotten the 100 years War in Europe? Or all of the Crusades campaigns? War just isn't what it used to be, although it's still very much around. The Palestinian deal has been going for a very long time, I agree...but it's more a political issue than an out and out conflict. Listen, I can respect your yogic vision, but such things don't help with people who cannot be reasoned with...would the yogic vision have stopped Hitler from destroying the Jews and decimating Europe? Would long bouts of meditation convinced the Confederates to give up Slavery? WIll it stop the Janjaweed? The Lord's Resistance Army? Kim Jong Il? Astrology, properly understood, recognizes that Life emcompasses both the good and the bad in Life...Mars represents both these things. Mars is War, in Peace Mars is the tools of industry. Sooner or later Saddam, and by extension the wider ME, had to be dealt with...I don't see this thing as a simple matter of law enforcement (Sep 11), I see this as a major, major problem on the world scale that must be confronted. And if there are those of you who don't wish to do that, I can dig it - just keep clear of those of us who do. Salaam, Strawman alert! Strawman alert! I'm saying it again: Strawman alert! Nothing is being stated that could possibly lead to any kind of discussion. Anything is (and will be) stated to provoke dissension and bad vibes. That's the objective. Don't fall for it. Let this go bey-bye--er, bye-bye-- along with the ol' horse patootie. Prolly best friends, anyway. Posted by: shylurker on February 27, 2006 02:00 AMAnd, judi... Aloha Posted by: JoannaOregon on February 27, 2006 02:01 AMHi Again Kiwi, Just wanted to add this: there's a series of books on Firearms and such...I can't remember the names of the authors, but both of them were old British warhorses. One of them is dead now, and the other is very old, but they co-wrote a number of books chronicling the history of weaponry and firearms down through the Ages. I bring this up in direct counterpoint to you and others, who attempt to make this "Why We Fight" argument, that there are mean old men rubbing their hands in anticipation of making bundles of money by stirring trouble up. Those guys who wrote those books - and keep in mind, they were career soldiers now retired, not taking money from anyone - clearly shot that notion down. They stated that there have been more firearms and weapons manufacturers who gone out of business than have ever profited from the enterprise. If I find the names of the authors I'll be back to let you know. But for now, I just wanted to put that in, because I know there are lots of folks in our astrological ranks who are pacifists, or quasi-pacifists. Salaam, FOCUS | Washington Told to Justify Port Deal in Court JudiG, I'm rude - but I take all kinds of potshots from folks here on this blog, right? C'mon. Now, I'm a big boy and I know the deal, and can take it it, but I refuse to accept this notion of being "unevolved", etc. Like the old saying goes, y'all love to dish it out, but you can't take it. When pushed, I punch. It's not enough to simply get in an echo chamber and spout off stuff in what amounts to the astrological equivalent of an intellectual ghetto; you have to test what you know to be true against the info of others. That's called Debate. This is why I read EVERYTHING I get my hands on, Left, Right and Center. And I make it my business to listen and read those I don't agree with moreso than those I do. So, go right ahead - try to ignore me, as Joanna said. It says a great deal about the depth of the folks here, who claim highmindedness and "evolution" when in reality they only display cowardice and intellectual dishonesty. My writings and track record are very public and am able back up what I present. So get used to being challenged early and often, because I've studied long and hard my craft, and I'm a serious thinker who has the guts to call a spade a spade. Salaam, You still have no idea when I was born, do you, even tho I left a clue/ Purple fingers make a civil war now.... who cares what you do? All that counts is how you treat people. You are a poseur. An invader. A self justifying ......? Isn't it interesting that the harmonic convergence was in august of that same year. So I wonder what the astro signature of Carlyle is? Perhaps in that group's formation we might have the seeds of the new global cooperation era - but like anything else, we have yet to get past the shadow energy. Eric Francis | Psychic Weather Advisory BEFORE I resume with my analysis of the entire world in Mon's edition, if nobody minds, I'll slip in a little mundane astrology--a weather advisory re. the Pisces New Moon & also Mercury stationing retrograde in Pisces. That's a lot of Pisces, particularly given that Jupiter in Scorpio is trine both events, & there has been a lot of Neptune in the air the past couple of weeks. Here is the chart. This occurs in Europe & the UK very early Tue morning & in the USA, Mon evening. In Australia, it's a bit later in the day Tue. http://cainer.com/ericfrancis/gifs/uraniannewmoon.jpg There are a number of factors to this setup, & basically what you have is a situation where everything in Pisces is making contact with an outer planet. Indeed, the 3 most personal of the planets, Moon, Mercury & Sun, are all in close aspects to outer planets, to wit: the Moon/Sun conjunct Uranus; & Mercury simultaneously making a sq to Pluto/Galactic Core. Taken apart or together, these are both a setup for a turning point. But it will have its turbulent qualities (Uranus so prominent, awa a Mercury sta) awa its harsh or extremely decisive moments (the Mercury to Pluto sq). Mercury/Pluto is so precise as to be surgical. However, with Uranus/GC involved, there is the influx of higher vibration energy that in contrast most of our concerns/ideologies pretty much wipe clean the kinds of considerations we have in our usual day-to-day affairs. There is a real feeling of getting rid of the chaff & keeping the grain; if burning off karma. The transitions do seem to be moving quickly, & they do seem meaningful. There seems to be a distinct shift in levels indicated in this New Moon chart, & what works or seems to function anyway at the lower vibrations does not usually work so well at the higher ones. So, on the Earth level there are turning points, but if you think in terms of a vertical or multidimensional axis, there is a process of leaving behind the conflict & shifting to a space where the contradictions lose their meaning. In terms of the Mercury/Pluto/GC sq, which holds solid from now clear thru the week because Mercury stations midweek & is thus stationary, there is an inner dichotomy of soul v emotions indicated; & getting clear on the emotional level while keeping your intentions focused on your deepest inner sense of direction. There is not really a conflict between these levels, but the square says we may experience it as one. And the station of Mercury says that there are decisions involved; that retrieving or resolving something from the past may be involved; that coming to closure on something--which story continues thru the next time Mercury comes back & squares Pluto in Apr--is a big piece of the puzzle. The GC has a famously nonjudgmental quality. You could not say the same thing about Pluto, which seems to push everything to judgment; but the contrast in power between the two points is a little like a match next to the Sun. So it's Pluto itself that is coming in for a reckoning, & Mercury is in an interesting position. I would say this has something to do with making up one's mind, & aligning one's mind with soul & nothing else. Surely, this is all prep for events to come, & there are many. http://planetwaves.net/ So JudyG, am I correct in assuming from your aloha nui loa that you live in Hawaii? I miss it so much. Posted by: judiG on February 27, 2006 03:40 AMNot long ago Sally read in a chart, (I think she was reading in a chart) that the truth of 9 -11 would soon be known. I'm listening to Sunday nite repeat of Tim Russsert with Senator Warner as guest. And a couple of things came out, went bingo, as they talked of the UAE port dustup. No. 1, Senator Warner, chairman of several committees connected to the US Armed forces, just made a gigantic slip of likely classified information. In talking of Iraq, he said the brave US soldiers, "25 TO 30,000 OF THEM WHO HAVE BEEN INJURED" - previously we had been told 16,000 had been injured....... Next - did we all know that China is running some of our ports? And finally, Russert helped to fill in the pieces of my "quid pro quo" question...and what the quid is. Russert was asking Warner how he could support the UAE taking over US ports when: 2)that some of the 9-11 pilots came from the UAE, 3)that the planning of 9-11 took place in the UAE 4)that the FBI reported in 9 11 report they believed the UAE had tipped off bin laden to get out of the hunting camp when we were about to annihilate him, and that's when it went bingo -light bulb for me. I've been looking at the wrong end of the quid pro quo. How about the Manuchurian Candidate and Pretty good explanation of why the manchurian candidate would be risking it all for the UAE. Hmmm. I think I'm just now warm - I'm likel right on. Who has the chart of the UAE with the chart of 9-11? Expect to see trines to Venus and the money houses. I think the truth of 9 11 has just been revealed on Russert, even though he didn't know that he was. They were certainly a group of commerce and power who demanded loyalty through tithing. Being Catholic in England became a dangerous religion to belong to and the Church of England quickly filled the gap. I will keep looking for the date through some of my English resources. I think it's pretty interesting to pick a date out of thin air but I don't do that with any confidence or sense of responsibility as an astrologer. Tseka, you presented a very interesting scenario, wonder what Congress would do and I wonder if they know that is the case right now. But that is, indeed, why the Church of England is still the official religion of the monorchy (I would guess just so those members of the old Catholic church wouldn't be Tower of Londoned). What I am not sure of is whether there is a difference between Anglican and Church of England and Episcopalian. The church itself was morphing along since the end of the Roman occupation. Posted by: Pallas1800 on February 27, 2006 06:09 AMTo abolish Corporate Personhood would be to deal a tremendous blow to corporate power run amok. I say let's do it! Let's make all CEOs and corporate officers directly accountable for the actions of their corporations, with massive punitive damages (relative to their salaries) for cooked books, employee abuse and other dishonorable business practices. Extreme cases (like Halliburton) should be immediately nationalized and disincorporated. Or, to paraphrase Grover Norquist: I don't want to abolish corporations. I simply want to reduce them to the size where I can drag them into the bathroom and drown them in the bathtub. It's high time we break up conglomerates and monopolies as well. Especially where it pertains to media. Murdoch's News Corp would be a primary target. And lucky him, he made the grave mistake of reincorporating News Corp in Delaware, so he's directly subject to all of our reforms! But also GE and Disney, which have absolutely no business operating the newsrooms of NBC and ABC. Posted by: NEOBuckeye on February 27, 2006 06:15 AMHenry was Excommunicated by the Pope and named the Supreme Head (later changed) of the Church of England and that became the official Church. Henry couldn't bring himself to move the church in a new direction and it was Catholic by nature, not by name. When Bloody Mary came to the throne, she reinstated the Catholic Church as the official Church. Then it was Elizabeth's turn and she had a number of arguments with the Pope and she was Excommunicated on Feb. 25, 1570 and became Supreme Head. She tried to placate the Puritan and Catholic forces and was basically unable to do so and in essence the Church of England never looked back or was ever displaced. It simply continued to evolve. Posted by: Sally on February 27, 2006 06:16 AMSpeaking of religious eras...Mary Tudor, Henry's daughter who was married to the King of Spain, was also known as Bloody Mary. So would this era (she died in 1558, when Elizabeth I assumed to throne, having assumed the throne when her brother Edward died; she didn't reign long, but it was VERY bloody)) in which the Catholics wreaked havoc on the reformation movement, also have been under a heavy neptunian/jupiter/plutonian time (I haven't looked up the planetary placements)? Elizabeth put a stop to all of it....there was no retribution under her reign. But when she died, James the 1st imprisoned his cousin Arabella Stuart (who was Mary Queen of Scots niece) because she was Catholic, and had been working hard to get the Catholics back into power (AND she had as much right to the throne as he did). This really was about politics/religion. AND as Sally said, this was the time of the rise (1599, near the last of Elizabeth's long reign) of the corporations. Over 400 years now, and the formula still seems to be working. Posted by: judiG on February 27, 2006 06:21 AMNeobuckeye, GE is a big part of the industrial/military complex. Weaponry. But the inconjunct, that is another set of problems, as you both write....I ws taught that inconjuncts were an aspect of irritation, but it all works for me, and both Sally and Pallas fleshed it out so well. Posted by: judiG on February 27, 2006 06:56 AMHenry VIII's Act of Supremacy 1534 Judi G you are right, inconjuncts are a "source of irritation". That's the 30 degree inconjunct. For some unknown reason, probably because quincunx is such a difficult word to pronounce, But it is the 30 degree that is really the inconjunct and the proper name for the 150 degree Mars in gemini, is it? From Buz Myers... an interesting perspective: "Inconjuncts(quincunx, too), are major aspects and I don't know how you can work without them in the chart. I think they are very important as they tend to be Uranian in nature. Just as the square was strongly connected to the Piscean Age and we spent 2500 years learning how to handle the square(did we?), the inconjunct is associated with the Aquarian Age and we are going to start spending the next 2500 years learning how to handle the inconjunct." "Inconjuncts have a tendency to deal with inner guilt. They deal with health, sevice, indebtedness, and with sexual problems. They are basically an aspect of realignment or readjudstment. If you have a planet involved in an inconjunct, it means that you're going through a phase of evolution where you are choosing to readjust the way you use that energy." Posted by: jm on February 27, 2006 07:32 AMAnd they are related to 6th and 8th house dilemmas which tell you something about how to work them out. The heavier planet in the quincunx is the teacher, and the lighter, faster planet is the one that is learning. That's the explanation of the 150 degree quincunx, now called inconjunct. Posted by: jm on February 27, 2006 07:55 AMI just thought of a great example that might interest you all. The USA has a Moon in Aquarius in the second house quincunx Mercury in the eighth in Cancer. Security(Cancer) and money/control issues(2nd and 8th houses) are in focus. Mercury rules the 7th house of relationships and rules commerce.(some use a 2 degree orb, but I think 3 applies). Since the Moon is learning, we have lessons about security, and what that really means. How much material gain will bring this to us and at what cost? The Moon is adjusting its behavior and is in the 2nd house, our relationship to consumption and possession. This is what I find so fascinating about the UAE deal. It's asking this question, pitting our security concerns against our material in a very clear way. The country feels insecure about this deal and is ready to forgo it, even though a great amount of money would come our way. Or someone's way. But Mr. Bernanke did stumble at one point. Responding to a question from Representative Barney Frank about income inequality, he declared that "the most important factor" in rising inequality "is the rising skill premium, the increased return to education." That's a fundamental misreading of what's happening to American society. What we're seeing isn't the rise of a fairly broad class of knowledge workers. Instead, we're seeing the rise of a narrow oligarchy: income and wealth are becoming increasingly concentrated in the hands of a small, privileged elite. I think of Mr. Bernanke's position, which one hears all the time, as the 80-20 fallacy. It's the notion that the winners in our increasingly unequal society are a fairly large group — that the 20 percent or so of American workers who have the skills to take advantage of new technology and globalization are pulling away from the 80 percent who don't have these skills. The truth is quite different. Highly educated workers have done better than those with less education, but a college degree has hardly been a ticket to big income gains. The 2006 Economic Report of the President tells us that the real earnings of college graduates actually fell more than 5 percent between 2000 and 2004. Over the longer stretch from 1975 to 2004 the average earnings of college graduates rose, but by less than 1 percent per year. So who are the winners from rising inequality? It's not the top 20 percent, or even the top 10 percent. The big gains have gone to a much smaller, much richer group than that. A new research paper by Ian Dew-Becker and Robert Gordon of Northwestern University, "Where Did the Productivity Growth Go?," gives the details. Between 1972 and 2001 the wage and salary income of Americans at the 90th percentile of the income distribution rose only 34 percent, or about 1 percent per year. So being in the top 10 percent of the income distribution, like being a college graduate, wasn't a ticket to big income gains. But income at the 99th percentile rose 87 percent; income at the 99.9th percentile rose 181 percent; and income at the 99.99th percentile rose 497 percent. No, that's not a misprint. Just to give you a sense of who we're talking about: the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center estimates that this year the 99th percentile will correspond to an income of $402,306, and the 99.9th percentile to an income of $1,672,726. The center doesn't give a number for the 99.99th percentile, but it's probably well over $6 million a year. Why would someone as smart and well informed as Mr. Bernanke get the nature of growing inequality wrong? Because the fallacy he fell into tends to dominate polite discussion about income trends, not because it's true, but because it's comforting. The notion that it's all about returns to education suggests that nobody is to blame for rising inequality, that it's just a case of supply and demand at work. And it also suggests that the way to mitigate inequality is to improve our educational system — and better education is a value to which just about every politician in America pays at least lip service. The idea that we have a rising oligarchy is much more disturbing. It suggests that the growth of inequality may have as much to do with power relations as it does with market forces. Unfortunately, that's the real story. Should we be worried about the increasingly oligarchic nature of American society? Yes, and not just because a rising economic tide has failed to lift most boats. Both history and modern experience tell us that highly unequal societies also tend to be highly corrupt. There's an arrow of causation that runs from diverging income trends to Jack Abramoff and the K Street project. And I'm with Alan Greenspan, who — surprisingly, given his libertarian roots — has repeatedly warned that growing inequality poses a threat to "democratic society." It may take some time before we muster the political will to counter that threat. But the first step toward doing something about inequality is to abandon the 80-20 fallacy. It's time to face up to the fact that rising inequality is driven by the giant income gains of a tiny elite, not the modest gains of college graduates.

I look forward to reading that symbol (I am actually on my daughter's computer, and babysitting) Posted by: Judi on February 27, 2006 10:34 PMoes My source says the same thing about the midpoint of the sextile in the yod and the degree. "Usually the Finger of God is found in the charts of people who are forced to do things. The pointing finger of the yod is the action point, the reaction point is the opposite of the single planet. I noticed that we have a Uranus/Saturn (Pisces/Leo) quincunx on and off this year by transit. If Uranus is the heavy and Saturn is adjusting, this could mean that battles with authority are well underway. Freedom is big this year as we are witnessing. If Uranus in Pisces indicates collective liberation, then this adds more meaning to our Saturn in Leo which is battling leadership and attempted authoritarian crackdowns. This is repeated in the opposition to Neptune in Aquarius. I have some serious doubts about the power of certain sorry political figures. Posted by: jm on February 27, 2006 10:55 PMJudi Mucho interesting. Mars is headed for that midpoint and are you speaking? I think so. Delivering information with rapid force. Let us know the symbolism of that point. Posted by: jm on February 27, 2006 10:59 PMAs part of these transit configurations, I notice that impeachment talk keeps percolating. What strikes me as significant, is not the actual impeachment, but the discussion that will probably continue as these transits work. People are questioning how much power and authority is advisable. Maybe this unitary executive grab is just the thing that brought this whole problem to the fore. Pisces is known as the "oldest" sign in the zodiac, though I prefer to say "most experienced". Souls born under the sign of Pisces have pretty much seen it all before. They come here to let go of self-identification and allow the soul to merge with its source: pure consciousness. This can be a tall order. The Pisceans that can't handle it tend to waste their lives lost in the Neptunian haze of alcohol and drugs. Those who can commit their lives working for the upliftment of all other souls are our everyday Bodhisattvas. Bush in India: Just Not Welcome [posted online on February 27, 2006] On his triumphalist tour of India and Pakistan, where he hopes to wave imperiously at people he considers potential subjects, President Bush has an itinerary that's getting curiouser and curiouser. For Bush's March 2 pit stop in New Delhi, the Indian government tried very hard to have him address our parliament. A not inconsequential number of MPs threatened to heckle him, so Plan One was hastily shelved. Plan Two was to have Bush address the masses from the ramparts of the magnificent Red Fort, where the Indian prime minister traditionally delivers his Independence Day address. But the Red Fort, surrounded as it is by the predominantly Muslim population of Old Delhi, was considered a security nightmare. So now we're into Plan Three: President George Bush speaks from Purana Qila, the Old Fort. http://www.thenation.com/doc/20060313/roy Posted by: wv on February 28, 2006 02:11 PMSaaaaayyy... what's a few ports when the power suppliers are also "foreign-owned," eh? It was Sir Thomas More who stood in the way Henry VIII's divorce from Catherine of Aragon, his first wife and daughter of Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain. Henry had to off Sir Thomas before he could start his cycle of "wed and behead". Without his head, he was later canonized as St Thomas More. In addition, the only two wives of Henry's to take a header were Anne Boleyn and Katherine Howard. Also, does anybody have an astrological time machine and remembers who said that Bill Clinton would be the last elected president of the United States? Bush guilty of "perpetrating terrorism in the name of fighting terrorism and killing people including women and children". A jury comprising retired Supreme Court judge B.S.A. Swamy, human rights activist G. Haragopal and prominent writer-activist Rama Milkote heard the people and upheld eight charges against Bush. The jury held Bush guilty of "perpetrating terrorism in the name of fighting against terrorism" and "attacking and threatening other countries using the issue of nuclear weapons as a pretext". Bush was also found to be guilty of human rights violations and large- scale killing of people, including women and children, especially in Afghanistan and Iraq and of creating a sense of insecurity in the world. "It is a fit case to be tried in the international court of justice," said the jury. The public hearing on "crimes of George Bush" was held by a coalition of 40 groups including Left parties and their affiliated organisations, human rights and women's groups, and trade unions. This was the first time that such a public hearing was held n the country against any visiting head of state or government. A total of 13 people deposed before the jury, which asked the Indian government to call off Bush's visit. Back in 2003, Carlyle bought CSX World Terminals, a port management outfit, for $300 million. At the time, Jack Snow, now the secretary of the Treasury and the man responsible for reviewing the Dubai Ports World deal, was chairman of CSX. Just two years later, Carlyle sold World Terminals to the company that became Dubai Ports World for a cool $1.2 billion, turning a 400 percent profit. How could the value of the company grow so dramatically and so fast? You don't suppose someone might have whispered into the sheiks' ears that they could look forward to expanding their port business into the United States with no problems? Posted by: shylurker on March 1, 2006 12:58 AMThis Dubai deal is actually getting interesting. I haven't seen so much public arousal in ages. The new twist is so much a part of this Pluto station coming up and now Mars in Gemini going information crazy, and that is the company's boycott of Israel. So a money deal has taken on religious implications. Our foreign policy has been staunchly allied with Israel and now, Pluto and merging and big money are clashing with ideology, Sagittarius. The connection with terrorist funding becomes even more important. And all the way back to basic security. So the question seems to be, is this country selling it's soul for money? Going for the bucks and dealing with any criminal element without investigation? Allowing greed to dominate and fear of facing our indebtedness. Pluto and the North Node in Scorpio are lessons around debt and it is bound to come our way as we learn how to negotiate, not always holding the high card. Lessons of principles versus easy money and how to best pay back our debt, both material and karmic. It's our money, after all. April 15 is around the corner. Bush is not welcome Arundhati Roy has mirrored the feelings of the entire cross section of Indians. Though written satirically, there is an undercurrent of truth in the article "George Bush go home" (Feb. 28) that tastes bitter. That George W. Bush is going to address us makes a mockery of the democracy and freedom we preach. Let the whole world know that while bureaucratic India extends a red carpet welcome to Mr. Bush, he is most unwelcome to patriotic Indian citizens. R. Dharmaraja, By publishing the article, The Hindu has reaffirmed the values its founders stood for. True, Mr. Bush is not welcome here or in any self-respecting nation. He has defied the world by attacking Iraq and his hands are soiled with the blood of fellow human beings. I am, without doubt, among the millions who will groan and wince when Rajghat is defiled by his visit. K.N.A. Ramchander, Ms. Roy deserves praise and solidarity for articulating the sentiments of millions of Indians. The battle cry "George Bush go home" will surely echo in New Delhi's corridors of power. C. John Rose, We are ashamed to have Mr. Bush as the nation's guest. What he really deserves are black flags and shouts of protests. P. Hariprasad Krishnan, The article echoes the sentiments of millions of Indians and other peace lovers throughout the world. Hats off to The Hindu for publishing the piece that minced no words on the eve of Mr. Bush's visit. C.G. Senthilkumar, I join Ms. Roy in protesting Mr. Bush's visit. I am aghast that Mr. Bush will place flowers on the memorial of one who sacrificed his life for non-violence. I am also ashamed that the Government is extending a red carpet welcome to the perpetrator of crimes against humanity. R.G. Bhandiwad, Ms. Roy's views reflect the sentiment of many others whose voices will not be heard by Mr. Bush. It is true that the soul of the Mahatma, an eternal symbol of non-violence, will grieve when Mr. Bush's bloodstained hands lay a wreath on his memorial. S.M. Basha, My mind recollects a scene from Quo Vadis, in which Roman General Marcus Vinicius rides in triumph through the streets of Rome. He is puffed up with pride and arrogance when he sees thousands of people on both sides of the street giving him a rousing reception. Behind him stands a slave who holds a crown of olive leaves above his head and goes on repeating the words, "Remember, thou art only a man." K.S.S. Sarma, I understand the writer's feelings and am sure a large number of people will share her views. But protest meetings and rallies are not the answer to Mr. Bush. The most effective way to handle his visit would be to ignore it, and refuse to attend his meeting. That will be the truly Gandhian way of protesting. J. OFF TOPIC BUT VERY IMPORTANT. VOTE IS THURS. MARCH 2ND. From the Organic Consumers Association: Congress Poised to Pass Bill Taking Away Right to Know What's in Your Food Tell your Congressman or Congresswoman to vote "No" on House of Representatives Bill H.R. 4167, the "National Uniformity for Food Act" The House of Representatives will vote this week on a controversial "national food uniformity" labeling law that will take away local government and states' power to require food safety food labels such as those required in California and other states on foods or beverages that are likely to cause cancer, birth defects, allergic reactions, or mercury poisoning. This bill would also prevent citizens in local municipalities and states from passing laws requiring that genetically engineered foods and ingredients such as Monsanto's recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH) be labeled. The House will vote March 2, 2006 on a bill that would gut state food safety and labeling laws. H.R. 4167, the "National Uniformity for Food Act," lowers the bar on food safety by overturning state food safety laws that are not "identical" to federal law. Hundreds of state laws and regulations are at risk, including those governing the safety of milk, fish, and shellfish. The bill is being pushed by large supermarket chains and food manufacturers, spearheaded by the powerful Grocery Manufacturers of America. Big food corporations and the biotech industry understand that consumers are more and more concerned about food safety, genetic engineering, and chemical-intensive agriculture, and are reading labels more closely. They understand that pesticide and mercury residues and hazardous technologies such as genetic engineering and food irradiation will be rejected if there are truthful labels required on food products. Industry-sponsored H.R. 4167 is gaining momentum and must be stopped! Act now! Preserve local and regional democracy and protect yourself and your family from unsafe food by sending an email or calling your Representative and urging them to vote "No" on H.R. 4167. AND FROM THE TOLEDO BLADE “DESPITE their professed disdain for "one size fits all" laws, Republicans in Congress are ganging up with potentially dangerous legislation that would require uniform food-labeling regulations in all 50 states. Such a federal law could be misleading or pose a hazard to consumers, who are now protected by the kind of individual state regulations that, in Michigan, for example, require a warning about possible allergic reactions to sulfites in bulk food. Or an Ohio regulation that forbids the use of the word "honey" on a food label unless the product actually contains honey. ... Such labels and warnings on store shelves and in advertising would have to gain approval of federal regulators, and might be rejected, under the disingenuously titled "National Uniformity for Food Act," sponsored by U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, Republican of Michigan. The measure has 225 co-sponsors, including a few Democrats, in the House of Representatives. Opponents contend that the real motive behind the proposal, being pushed by the food industry, is to dilute California food-labeling regulations, which were approved by voters in a ballot initiative back in 1986 and are more stringent than federal rules. This is a reasonable and not unduly alarmist conclusion. In nearly every instance pitting consumer protection against industry interests over the past five years, the Bush Administration has sided with industry. After the 2000 election was stolen I furled my flag and swore never to fly it again until we had a legally elected president. I didn't even fly it at 9-11. (A real president would have read the briefings and prevented that one.) Also, like many here, I am suspicious that the Bush gang knew well enough that it was coming. I hope I'll be able to fly that flag again someday. Joanna, your Mark Twain quote reminded me of another one. The NYC reporters loved to go by Mark Twain's house and ask for a comment because it was always good copy. When an infamous Tammany Hall politician died, the NYC reporters visited Mark Twain and asked him if he would be attending the funeral. "No, " said Mark Twain, who was quite elderly then. "I won't be able to attend the event, but I do approve of it." Posted by: Barbara on March 1, 2006 05:46 AMSally, 800 years is a very long time for any one nation to dominate the globe. Looking back through history, it seems that most nations and superpowers have emerged, reached their zenith for a time, and then have gone into decline or collapsed, largely corresponding with the cycles of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. China has survived and endured in some form or another for centuries, so maybe this resiliency would factor into their long-term dominance? Even if so, I can't help but think that they will be undergoing some massive revolutionary changes during the next decade or two. And there are other emerging nations, such as India, and alliances such as in South America, which will also have major roles to play. China has been Posted by: NEOBuckeye on March 1, 2006 08:43 AMIndia is on the rise and I think will be a major player. It's interesting that it is a country that staged a nonviolent revolution against a mighty empire. I expected this when Jupiter went into Scorpio and mutual reception with Pluto. When we leave Scorpio and the depth of the personal we come into Sagittarius and encounter for the first time the greater dimension we live in. "Pontiff" means bridge builder, and we enter a new territory. It is awe inspiring and frightening and we named it's ruler God some time back. We are invited to leave behind the interpersonal security we had within a very finite universe and since we are entering a vast unknown we have to rely on trust, faith, and guidance. As scared as we are, we are entranced and can't help but go forward. Sometimes man confuses himself with this God creature and sometimes he really is the entity. So comes the puzzle. Are we dominated by other people, by God, or by none of the above. I think that's what is happening to the collective now and the old views of God are coming down leaving us naked in a new dimension. We are being asked to leave behind some of the Scorpio type behaviors of revenge, jealousy, blaming others for our agony, fear of being overpowered by people, and things like that. When we go on to Sagittarius and discover the vast orchestration with a greater power at the helm, the rulers we were under become greatly diminished. They are merely a part of the whole and vehicles to get us where we are going on this unknowable journey through life, death, and beyond. When we get excited about the universe, the petty doings of all these people become less interesting. And eventually they fade away, which is exactly what will happen to the neocons. I meant to add that I think this is why we are encountering such a block to stopping their criminal activities. The usual avenues are closed. By all logic, he should have been impeached long ago. We have to complete this and really be finished. I think we are learning to just step beyond all of it and embrace the unknown. But so far we don't know who will guide us. I don't really care what happens to these unfortunate people. I don't even want to know. All I know is that I don't want to be a part of their activity. I believe if we take the step, leave this behind, including all of our recent presidents, we will find our new leaders when we get there. The Case for Impeachment Why we can no longer afford George W. Bush On December 18 of last year, Congressman John Conyers Jr. (D., Mich.) introduced into the House of Representatives a resolution inviting it to form “a select committee to investigate the Administration's intent to go to war before congressional authorization, manipulation of pre-war intelligence, encouraging and countenancing torture, retaliating against critics, and to make recommendations regarding grounds for possible impeachment.” Although buttressed two days previously by the news of the National Security Agency's illegal surveillance of the American citizenry, the request attracted little or no attention in the press—nothing on television or in the major papers, some scattered applause from the left-wing blogs, heavy sarcasm on the websites flying the flags of the militant right. The nearly complete silence raised the question as to what it was the congressman had in mind, and to whom did he think he was speaking? In time of war few propositions would seem as futile as the attempt to impeach a president whose political party controls the Congress; as the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee stationed on Capitol Hill for the last forty years, Representative Conyers presumably knew that to expect the Republican caucus in the House to take note of his invitation, much less arm it with the power of subpoena, was to expect a miracle of democratic transformation and rebirth not unlike the one looked for by President Bush under the prayer rugs in Baghdad. Unless the congressman intended some sort of symbolic gesture, self-serving and harmless, what did he hope to prove or to gain? He answered the question in early January, on the phone from Detroit during the congressional winter recess. http://harpers.org/TheCaseForImpeachment.html Posted by: wv on March 1, 2006 05:48 PMThanks for the link to the anti-NeoCon blogger, Barbara. A lot of people are aware now and this happened quickly, so the end could be sooner than some think. Once we are serious about the effort, the details of what to do will come. Will and confidence are of utmost importance. The deep desire to end the punishment. And the anticipation of triumph and what a high that will be after so much struggle. Aries will perk things up. We are inside of the experience, can't see the outcome, and really are compelled to go with what life has in store for us. The neocons are pawns in a much bigger game. Our problems are really elsewhere. They are symptoms, so leveling blows against them is useless, until we recognize the underlying causes. I think we are in that process. The transiting North Node soon to go into Pisces maybe will help us all accept the situation and trust that the right outcome is inevitable. I'm not particularly enthused about the interpersonal insults which I hope will subside in due time. I think our Libra planets indicate a lot of debate but with a desire to compromise and plug one polarity into the other for force and achievement. I think this will come. There has to be a sound reason for our predicament, and whether it lasts for one more year or twenty, we will go on to another phase when the right time comes. One party rule is excruciating, not only for the opposition, but also for those who think they are allied with the rulers. In a sense, they are worse off because they don't realize that they are being just as dominated and played for fools. Posted by: Jo on March 2, 2006 12:46 AMAn article for Mr. MMMBey about slavery and the Civil War....the link is here Origins of the Civil War: Slavery Ask any typical American schoolchild why the War Between the States (commonly designated by the misnomer “civil war”) was fought, and they will tell you, “It was fought over slavery.” The politically correct version of history is that the Northern states rose up in moral indignation against the barbaric system of chattel slavery in the South, and the Southern states, to protect their morally indefensible system, seceded, and attempted to subvert the Constitution and the government. As is usual, such a simplistic view of history obscures the true facts. Although slavery was a factor, it was never presented as a reason for the war until the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863, which, ironically, was carefully crafted so that it did not free a single slave. It only proclaimed freedom for slaves then in Confederate territory, and left those in United States territory, including areas of the Confederacy under Union control, still in bondage. So much for Lincoln’s humanitarian emancipation. Lincoln even admitted to certain associates that the proclamation was nothing but a war measure, designed to encourage slave revolt in the South. But, even with the vast majority of white males away in the army, there was never any semblance of slave revolt during the war, which casts a shadow of doubt over the concept that Southern slaves were the victims of universal cruelty. Coming more to the point, though, here is a piece of trivia: who said, “I have no purpose to introduce political and social equality between the white and black races. There is a physical difference between the two, which, in my judgment, will probably forever forbid their living together upon the footing of perfect equality; and inasmuch as it became a necessity that there must be a difference, I, as well as Judge Douglas, am in favor of the race to which I belong having the superior position. I have never said anything to the contrary.” Jefferson Davis? John Calhoun? Some virulently racist Southern politician? Does it surprise you to know that the answer is Abraham Lincoln? So much for the great proponent of racial equality. In Thomas DiLorenzo’s classic book The Real Lincoln, he demonstrates that racial prejudice against Negroes was as great, or greater, in the North than in the South. Most Northerners, Lincoln included, opposed the extension of slavery in the western states, not because of moral indignation, but because they feared competition with free white labor. Lincoln himself said in an 1864 speech, “The whole nation is interested that the best use shall be made of these territories. We want them for the homes of free white people.” And, as regards Northern prejudice against slaves, please be aware that free Northern states deprived blacks living amongst them of all legal and civil rights, prevented any competition by black labor, and, in the case of Lincoln’s home state of Illinois, banned blacks from settling in the state altogether. Only some 2% of Northerners belonged to the abolitionist societies, which in many cases seemed much more interested in punishing the whole South for the alleged crimes of a small minority of slaveholders. Alexis de Tocqueville wrote, in Democracy In America, “The prejudice of race appears to be stronger in the states that have abolished slavery than in those where it still exists; and nowhere is it so intolerant as in those states where servitude has never been known.” As regards slavery, please note that neither President Lincoln, nor any other Northerner ever alleged slavery as a reason for making war. Notice that, when General Beauregard’s forces at Charleston fired on Ft. Sumter, only the Deep South states, where slavery was so strongly entrenched, had seceded. The border states were struggling to achieve a peaceable reconciliation, which probably still could have been done, until Lincoln called for 75,000 troops to suppress the “rebellion”… a rebellion he had helped occasion by sending munitions to Ft. Sumter, which he knew would instigate hostile Southern reaction. He admitted as much when he wrote to Captain G.V. Fox, “You and I both anticipated that the cause of the country would be advanced by making the attempt to provision Ft. Sumter, even if it should fail; and it is no small consolation now to feel that our anticipation is justified by the result.” So why did Lincoln make war? Let the architect and conductor of the United States war effort speak for himself. In his First Inaugural Address, made after the Deep South states had already seceded, Lincoln announced, “I have no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere with the institution of slavery in the States where it exists. I believe I have no lawful right to do so, and I have no inclination to do so.” This was perfectly in line with the Republican party platform in 1860, which, though it included many Abolitionists, was not an Abolitionist party, because extreme abolitionism was anathema to most Northerners. Eugene Berwanrger wrote in The Frontier Against Slavery, “Republicans made no pretense of being concerned with the fate of the Negro and insisted that theirs was a party of white labor. By introducing a note of white supremacy, they hoped to win the votes of the Negrophobes and the anti-abolitionists who were opposed to the extension of slavery.” Lincoln even promised to strengthen the Fugitive Slave Act, which required free states to return runaway slaves to their Southern masters. Moreover, in 1862, Lincoln wrote a famous letter to the New York Tribune, whose editor was famous Abolitionist Horace Greeley, “My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would do that. What I do about slavery, and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union.” This, then, explains the Emancipation Proclamation, and every other war measure taken by the president. Even as late as the Hampton Roads peace conference of February 1865, Lincoln spoke of allowing the Southern states back into the union with slavery still intact. The South refused. They wanted no part of Lincoln’s emerging dictatorship. Lincoln’s primary object was to establish the supremacy of the National government over the State governments. In this, he was terribly effectual, as Constitutional rights in the North crumbled under a harsh war administration, and the South was brought into subjection through force of arms. So then, we have a reason for war. Lincoln believed the National government was supreme over the State governments, and the states must submit to Washington in everything. This the Southern states would not submit to, not over slavery, or any other issue. They wanted no war. As President Jefferson Davis said, “Our true policy is peace.” They even refused to re-enter the union when a proposed constitutional amendment to establish permanent protection for the institution of slavery, wherever it existed, was passed by the House of Representatives, and endorsed by Abraham Lincoln in his Inaugural Address of January, 1860. This was the original 13th Amendment. Perhaps I will write an article about it at a future date. Just think how different the Constitution, and our history would be if that particular amendment was enshrined in law. And remember who we would have to thank for the said amendment-the Great Emancipator, Abraham Lincoln. So, in summation, while slavery was tangential to the Civil War, it was NOT the reason for the war. Posted by: Garry on March 2, 2006 12:48 AM

These "black sites"—as they are called in CIA, White House, and Justice Department files— escaped attempted congressional oversight until December 2005. But in the National Defense Authorization Act, the Senate finally called for regular reports on where those prisons are, what plans there are for the ultimate release of their prisoners, and "a description of the interrogation procedures used." Ted Kennedy and John Kerry introduced the resolution. A similar December requirement was passed by the House (226 to 187) in a nonbinding resolution to urge the House and Senate negotiators to shine a shaft of sunlight on these "dark sites" in the final National Defense Authorization Act for 2006. But secretly, both the Senate and House resolutions were killed by the conference committee. http://villagevoice.com/news/0609,hentoff,72320,6.html Posted by: wv on March 2, 2006 01:06 AMPoll. With the combination of the two articles, it made me think back over 34 years of being an astrologer, and the many other astrologers I have met along the way. Without question the majority are very moral and spiritual people. You cannot study astrology without being led into other ancient practices, and the study of religions...which led me to realize why the majority of astrologers, with very very few exceptions, tend to be of a Liberal persuasion. These studies have led them to strong beliefs - to understand with great depth the difference between right and wrong. Karma and Dharma, and the desire not to accrue additional karma. And then it occurred to me that Liberals are derisively referred to as "bleeding hearts" by the political opposition because they are concerned with their fellow man, the sick, the poor, the old, the weak, the environment, all of those things that are morally right but unprofitable in material terms. No wonder most astrologers are left leaning. Yet those labeled Conservatives, who are mired in the material, care nothing for their fellow man, the poor, the old, the environment, or the weak- view them with contempt rather than empathy- and would leave them to drown or expire where they stand. The conclusion one has to reach is those that adhere to the Judeo-Christian principle are considered weak by those who adhere to the demon of avarice and injustice, Mammon. In the astrological community very very few of the Mammon leaners, the "hard hearted, hard right" seem to exist. Fortunately few exist for they are not fit to counsel others on paths to be taken. IMHO. Posted by: Pallas1800 on March 2, 2006 02:06 AMGarry, thanks for your post re the roses. Posted by: Travieso on March 2, 2006 05:07 AMWhy Intellectual Dishonesty is Hurting Astrology Today 9:45 PM 9/19/05 Mon In light of my recent essays regarding the very real and palpable Left leaning view extant in the American Astrology Community today, and noting that my essays in this regard have raised a bit of a ruckus, I'd like to take things a step further in this essay, why I posit that intellectual dishonesty is hurting Astrology today. There are several key points/themes that I would like to address myself to, that are often brought up in various astrological circles, and that I feel are at best spurious if not out and out dishonest. They are as follows: 1. Wanting no discussion about anything "other than Astrology" 2. Affirmative Action Astrology (and I'll explain exactly what I mean in a sec) 3. Taking a "No-Judgement" view with Astrology 4. Taking a so-called intellectual/academic approach in Astrology groups and forums (what I called Pseudo-Intellectualism) 5. Claiming to want Astrology to be more relevant to the general public Let's address these points one by one. Wanting No Discussion About Anything "Other than Astrology" Affirmative Action Astrology Taking A "No-Judgement" View With Astrology Taking A So-Called Intellectual/Academic Approach in Astrology Groups and Forums Claiming to Want Astrology to be More Relevant to the General Public I posit that until astrologers get real honest with themselves and each other, more and more people will get turned off to it, NOT because of the Religious Right, NOT because of folks being scared by the "occult" nature of it, but because so many astrologers keep falling further and further away from where the bulk of humanity is, which is the Real World. That's it. Salaam, I agree with you .
