Ok so Dr. Dean threw some red meat at the grass roots this morning on Wolf Blitzer's Late Edition, at this writing the transcripts are not available for a link. Dr. Dean wearing a blue shirt, red tie, flag lapel pin (the psychology of clothing) was on the mark countering Wolfie at each turn. One item he missed was covered by Knight Rider, splashed on the front page of our Sunday morning paper, The San Jose Mercury News, below the latest shooting of a police officer, the headline ran, "Bush Quietly undercuts laws with bill signing statement". The lead is, "Washington- President Bush agreed with great fan fare last month to accept a ban on torture, then he later quietly reserved the right to ignore it, even as he signed it into law.”
The new moon loosed all kinds of incredible energies. Check out the pattern play in the chart. What isn't shown in the chart are asteroids Isis at 8 Cancer and Niobe at 7 Virgo thus completing a grand earth water sextile. The new moon broke the winter sky in Capricorn forming a hexagram in the heavens. This set events in motion.
The energies associated with Isis are those which compel us to clean up the messes and She doesn't give you any option for discussion. Niobe embodies pride held in a tear drop, children, and the loss thereof. Those things that we value as a people, what we hold dearly.
Since the new moon we have seen Isis tag "The Hammer" Tom Delay and wild fires raging throughout Texas and Oklahoma. We've watched as the poster child of Republican success Jack Abramoff plead guilty to corruption as Native American's rose up against his white man rip-off once again. We've seen the collapse of a roof upon young skaters from the weight unusually heavy snow, the loss of the Sago Miners, and the felling of Ariel Sharon by a stroke.
Today we find Bush going, "neener neener neener", chart, the moon is 9 Taurus in the 3rd house of the media when day broke over Washington DC. Mars is in the 4th house of the People with the moon fast approaching a conjunction as we move on to the Alito hearings tomorrow (chart). What kind of Supreme Court Justice will this man make when he advocates the strip search of a ten year old girl, let alone without warrant? A man who appears to support the Kingly Powers which George subscribes to would be sitting in the position to bring back the dunking chair for dissidents, oh right, that's water-boarding today, and further empower the mad boy king.
Pull out the broom sticks and start cleaning these boyz out of office. Isis and Niobe, they'll pave the way.

The 9-11 attacks provided the rationale for what amounts to a Bush family coup against the Constitution. From the outset, President George Bush used 9-11 to reorganize the federal government and increase its reach far beyond any existing law to delve into the lives of innocent, ordinary people. The new powers allowed the government to arrest them at will and to subject them to endless incarceration without judicial review. Some people were sent abroad to be tortured for crimes they had nothing to do with. Who knows how many people have been tortured in American jails? When government employees within the intelligence community sought to protest, the government fired them and made sure they could never get another job in their areas of expertise. This extraordinary program of spying on Americans, much of which was carried out in fishing expeditions under the Patriot Act, has the makings of a consistent and long-range policy to wreck constitutional government.

Just a quick take that the saturn sitting on the 5th h. cusp inconjunct mercury at 8 Capricorn in the 9th (Justice) and inconjunct 8 Uranus in the 11th (Senate and House), plus the waxing moon is inconjunct (exact) which is conjunct the 9th House Cusp.

My hope with all the elevated Capricorn in the hearing chart trine the Taurus, is that the process will be slow (relatively), precise, methodical, and by some miracle, an attempt to do the right thing. Maybe there will be a departure from the previous charades and too fast ramming of everything through Congress. Even though the ascendant is in Aries (Isn't he an Aries, himself?), the prospects of the hopeful might be thwarted. It would be great if Congress could act independently with Uranus there. If this nomination fails it will be a sure sign of the arrested forward motion of this administration.

A memorandum sent to the 9/11 Commission, and Senate and House intelligence committees in September 2004, suggests that young Israelis who canvassed dozens of U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) offices in 2000 and 2001 trying to sell paintings to federal workers, may have been spying not only on the DEA, but also on Arab extremists in the United States - including the Sept. 11 hijackers who were living in Florida and New Jersey.
The Israeli "art student" story, which first surfaced in 2001 in news reports, has yet to be explained by U.S. authorities. Curiously, the 9/11 Commission did not venture to connect the myriad of dots to solve the mystery.

This is the basic civics lesson on which every American child is raised and which few adults seriously question. Politicians themselves are held in low esteem - a CNN/USA Today poll last week showed 49% of Americans think their legislators are corrupt. This is generally regarded as the product of individual venality rather than an institutional virus. But if Americans still believe that after last week, then they don't know Jack.

America's monstrous system of commercial political lobbying has long needed to be cut down to size. In Washington, more than 35,000 professional lobbyists now spend at least $5bn every year trying to influence the votes of members of the US Congress. It is a system that the former national security adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski has said makes Washington the most corrupt capital in the world. Now, at the start of 2006, there are signs that something is at last being done.
The rapid modern growth of this lobbying leviathan - the number of Washington lobbyists has doubled in the last decade - and the Republican control of Congress are umbilically linked. Its evil genius is Congressman Tom DeLay of Texas, who through most of the Bush years has been the Republican leader in the House of Representatives. Mr DeLay's purpose was nothing less than to conscript and expand the lobbying industry for the Republican cause, aggressively trading legislative and regulatory influence for political access and donations, thus locking the lobbyists into mutual interest relationships.
Last week's criminal charges against one of the most flamboyant denizens, Jack Abramoff, have thrown the whole network into crisis. Mr Abramoff pleaded guilty to syphoning money from native American gambling clients to finance an extended system of gifts and rewards to favoured congressional contacts - including Mr DeLay - in the form of meals at expensive restaurants, sports tickets and even golfing holidays to St Andrews. But Mr Abramoff has made a plea bargain to cooperate with a justice department political sleaze investigation that has had Republican leaders from President George Bush and house speaker Dennis Hastert downwards, rushing to unload perfectly legal donations from the disgraced lobbyist.
The Abramoff story has plenty of juice in it yet. At the weekend, Mr DeLay was forced to give up his efforts to remain house majority leader, making him the scandal's most high-profile casualty so far. All this could hardly come at a worse time for the Republicans, who must try to hold on to Congress in elections in 10 months time. But beware of assuming that the Abramoff revelations will hand victory to the Democrats, a few of whom were also on his books. In a recent Washington Post poll, 71% of voters said there was not much to choose between the parties on ethics issues. This is a powerful reminder that the US system itself is in crisis, not just those who currently control it.

WV...in the late teens Woodrow Wilson jailed all the 'iron butterflies' who were trying to bring the vote to women...dozens of them were jailed, and when they went on a hunger strike, the same thing happened....they were force fed.

Well, the political et al landscape has changed considerably since the dyselection of Nov 1999. I wld loathe to re-go thru the interum years; however, it's all been enormously interesting & corrective so far. We've come a long, long ways in collective awareness... for which I am heartily grateful.
Been "watching" the Alito hearings through the eyes of DUers since I have no tee vee service. Apparently, the Dems are calling him on many things--and he's not defending himself well. Of course, DU is a rather partisan crowd. Anyone here following the hearings?

As to the meat! Leahy was fantastic in his grilling. He was formidable when talking about Quakers in VT. being spied upon. And he pushed the issue of the 10 year old being strip searched.
Kennedy was impressive, coming from a postion of great knowledge of the Judicial workings. Did he go to law school?He must be second behing Byrd in his knowledge of how the Govt. should work.
Alito is holding his own pretty well. I wouldn't mind having dinner at their house. But he is narrow in his judgements, still don't want him on the SC!
It really bothered me that he forgot joining CAP at Princeton. ( the organization formed to keep women & minorities out of Princeton) Hey I remember being the Pres of the Friends Service League, in high school, 1955-56, shou7ldn't I be earning more money than these guys who can;t remember things?

1/5 was the bloodiest day in Iraq since bush's illegal invasion. As many as 140 were killed, incl 11 US servicemen, & many more injured. bush responded by suddenly summoning all living secs of state/[offense] to the WH for a skull session & photo op on what to do in the Mid East before he is completely overtaken by even more catastrophic success. He's willing to share the glory, & said he wld “listen/take to heart” any suggestions offered, even from Dems.
Except an exit plan, of course, & any suggestions of how to better equip or protect the “troops” who are thrown into an exploding nightmare where it's every man for himself. Good luck, soldier. Get out there & make us proud that you died for a noble cause ...

Pretty much a double edged sword, or a three sided number Jill. Red Meat for Red Dogs, the red are meat, or Dr. Dean fed his beasties, or all of the above.
We can only hope that the 70 days of coaching and role playing that they preped him with will be for naught and he'll slip up and somehow answer honestly. I really think this guy is on Bush's crusade.
Feinstein's on, Alito's answers have raised slightly in volume and you can detect some aggravation beneath the surface and Feinstein is arguing with him.. He isn't being real real consistent. Kinda reminds me of a spider in and its web, sticky ...

Jill G, I've been trying to find out more about the year of the Male Fire Dog but haven't got much info. One site said that generally a dog year would be better, i.e. more peaceful and cooperative. Interestingly, it turns out that Bush was born in a Dog year.

After a decent interval of a few hours, they started assessing the new, transformed landscape. Before the stroke, most assumed the March 28 elections would be a walkover for Sharon and his newly-formed Kadima party. wv, you'd think there would be tremendous hue and cry over this--and Ho Ho did issue a very strong statement. Somehow, we have lost our sense of outrage. I think it's been creeping slowly over us, and perhaps Morgana and Cap'n Sally can address it. After all those years of being in a trance, and now awakening, perhaps the populace at large is in a state of shock? When will they shake that and begin thrusting fists in the air in anger and outrage?
I wonder if anyone heard the Alito nomination hearings today. All I can say is that I am scared to death and have a sick feeling about this man. I can't support this astrologically, but when I saw this guy on TV I got this sick feeling about him.
My initial reaction was that he will not be nominated, but then this fear over me has given me a sense of fatalism. Even if the population is against his nomination and the direction of the Bush administratino in general, I don't think it really matters. In the end, the Republican party is in total control of the mechanisms of the government to the point that they are not bound by the opinions of the populous.
Astrologically, this really scares me, esp. considering the Pluto squared Uranus in the US chart in 2012. Pluto in Capricorn is very repressive and overreaching government that is tyranical in nature. Alito, and his ideas of a supreme executive branch fits this.

I see what you mean, Travieso, but shouldn't Pluto in a sign also bring about the crumbling, destruction, shedding of old forms so new ones can emerge? I don't know enough about it. I hope by the time Pluto leaves Sagittarius, we will have shed the fanatic, one-side religions in favor of true spiritual expression. Thinking about Pluto in Capricorn makes me visualize futuristic, sci fi movies where these giant, annonymous corporations and think tanks are the power behind society and/or we have robotic police states. Listening to the Alito hearings, one thing becomes very very obvious and he keeps repeating it.
Every time they ask him about outrageous statements he has made in the past he replies " I was in the Reagan administration and had to support the administration's position as a nominee" - I worked for so & so and had to support their position -
In essence, what he is saying is he dances with them that brought him.
So that is what can be expected of him.
Although he's giving good theoretical answers, if he gets on the Court he'll dance with them that brought him.
I doubt he'll change that lifetime habit, even though as a Supreme he should be beholden to no one.
With all this legalese, the thought occurs to me:
Why not push the envelope?
Get the appropriate plaintiffs, either on behalf of all U.S. citizens or the Gold Star/Peace Mothers who have lost children in Iraq to bring a criminal charge and civil lawsuit against Bush and Cheney for 1) lying
2)spying 3) declaring a war knowingly based on lies and tinkered intelligence, etc. 4)violations of accepted law, etc etc
A way to bypass the Congressional judiciary committee .
This would force the Supremes to make a decision whether the Executive Branch does have immunity from criminal actions conducted by them, and since they have already decided the election of this criminal, it should come before them to undo the damage they have done.
Of course, if they rule in his favor, we're on our way to THE revolution .

Travieso, part of me feels that we should actually want the GOP to hang around in power a little bit longer. But only because it means they get oblitterated during the Uranus-Pluto Square, when revolutionary forces of unnegotiable change upend and sack the establishment. Either way, I don't see that party surviving much past 2015 in it's present form, if at all. They're just too corrupt, and Pluto will not tolerate it in Capricorn. The increasingly entrenched elites are in real trouble.

Saturn in Leo is helping to cut them down to size and this desperate, exaggerated attempt to rule solo and supreme is destined to deflate by the end of the transit as we move on to other concerns. We just don't need a dictator at the moment. And I might be cutting the word "power" out of my conversation somewhat. There's got to be at least ten billion words in the language to chose from. I'd love to witness some creativity in this respect.

wv, i too have often railed about the disconnect between what's being reported and the reality of events that are either underreported or not reported at all.
We already have a dictatorship. We're not becoming one. We are one. Hatred will grow. Our allies will begin rebuffing our overtures to prop up our economy (when China restructures its investments). Many nations will begin taking care of their own. This will be the crumbling of structures (Pluto). The US will be forced into isolation. Cities will be in total dissaray -- even with martial law. Israel Won't Do Business With Robertson

JERUSALEM (AP) -- Israel will not do business with Pat Robertson after the evangelical leader suggested Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's massive stroke was divine punishment for the Gaza withdrawal, a tourism official said Wednesday.
Robertson is leading a group of evangelicals who have pledged to raise $50 million to build a large Christian tourism center in Israel's northern Galilee region, where tradition says Jesus lived and taught.
But Avi Hartuv, a spokesman for Tourism Minister Avraham Hirschson, said Israeli officials were furious with Robertson, a Christian broadcaster. A day after Sharon's Jan. 4 stroke, Robertson said the prime minister was being punished for ''dividing God's land,'' -- a reference to last summer's pullout from the Gaza Strip and four West Bank settlements.

Travieso and Sharon, when Pluto was in Scorpio from 1984 through most of 1995 the spotlight was on Aids and the abortion wars.
I remember longing for Pluto to enter Sag, figuring that Saggitarius is idealistic and enterprising, so things would be a lot better. What we got was the rise and power of the religious right.
So I'm worried about Pluto in Capricorn. It could be the crumbling of outmoded authority, but it also could be the culmination of rigid authoritarianism before Pluto reaches Aquarius (which could be a new age or revolution run amok.)
We need to look closer at the other outer planets and how they play into the pattern, I guess.
I don't think you were entirely off the mark about Pluto in Sag, Barbara. The first few years of Pluto's transit of Sagittarius, in the earliest and purest degrees of Sag (1996-2000) were probably the most optimistic and filled with hope that I can remember. It seemed like it was possible to take one's life in any direction in those days, with the rise of the Internet, the Dot-Com Boom and all. Outer Space itself was the limit.
The "Christian" Religious Right and the PNAC/NeoCons were present and newly ascendant, but who knew or cared much about who they were or how much trouble they could cause then?
Talk about a difference that a decade makes. Those people have murdered so much of the optimism and hope of better times with their incessant lust for power and total global domination, casting a very gray shade over all of our futures. And to what end, other than their own juvenile insecurities?
I do see Pluto in Capricorn as being a very repressive, authoritarian time period, as well as a time for the destruction and/or transformation of government and corporate structures. We will probably see the purest expression of this in the earliest degrees (2008-2012) with an authoritarian crackdown and new limits imposed over the former Sagittarian freedoms in 2008 to 2009.
But then, there is also the Uranus-Pluto Square from 2012-2015, which will totally upend the initial energies and changes. Uranus will move into Aries in 2011, bringing sudden, shocking and unpredictable revolutions, battles and wars, and even shocking bursts of creativity and technical advances (which we will desperately need in alternative energies). When Uranus in Aries squares Pluto in Capricorn, its all-out war and revolution against the entrenched structures and power elites.
In other words, Bush, if he remains in power through 2008, might dispense with the formalities at this time of proclaiming himself Dictator/Supreme Executive Chief of the US, only to be forcefully sent packing along with the entire US government power structure a few short years down the road.
After the Uranus-Pluto square comes the rebuilding and restructuring phase, (2016-2018) when we pick up the pieces and rebuild anew what was destroyed. I think the key at this point will be government as it best serves to manage resources, like food, water, maybe electricity, solar power, etc.
2022 sees the US' Pluto Return at 27 Capricorn, and perhaps an entirely new beginning for the country, if it still exists. But as it was not the intent of the Founders, it is unlikely that the US will endure this transit as an empire. It could be that what is now the US is divided up into a number of smaller regional republics, confederacies and city-states. Or perhaps, the US will merge with Canada and Mexico to form a North American Union? But whatever happens, the country will undoubtedly be very different, and yet it will remember its' roots.
In 2025 Pluto will move into Aquarius. I read somewhere that 2025 to 2029 could be as optimistic and an even more dynamic period for humanity as the first few years of Pluto's transit through Sag. But alas, maybe I'm getting ahead of myself. Who knows what the world will look like then?
It'll take a lot of work for Mexico, America & Canada, to become a N. AMerican Union.

Recently came news that Iran plans to open an oil commodities exchange where oil futures will be traded in euros. This is behind the Bush Administration’s press leaks about expanding the war on Iraq to include Iran, being sold to Americans as stopping Iran from becoming a nuclear power. To avoid worldwide economic instability, most nations’ central bankers would prefer a gradual switch from dollars to euros. But if the Bush decision-makers decide to bomb Tehran, the switch could be worldwide and abrupt.
Dual Currency?
In the online magazine ComLinks (2), Mike Bagley, who brings Capitol Hill experience in Energy, Intelligence and Foreign Affairs, has this to say:
Barring a US attack (on Iran), and it's still early yet, it seems probable that Iran's euro-denominated oil trading exchange will open in March 2006. Logically, the most appropriate US strategy would be to compromise with the EU and OPEC towards a dual-currency system for international oil trades. But US foreign policy is not being represented by logical, rational people.
Given the present rate of exchange, a switch to euros means Americans could pay an added 20 percent for gas at the pump, as about $1.20 now equals 1 euro. Bush and his loyalists seem blithely unaware that Newton’s Law applies equally to politics: “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.”
Another reaction to the Iranian commodities exchange is likely to be a
US stock market crash, as indicated by the transits for March 29, 2006. When combined in a biwheel with the USA’s natal chart, it shows a Mars-Pluto opposition hitting the US natal Mars-Neptune square.
Every stock market crash or panic since 1857 has occurred under this pattern. "

I think what makes this Pluto in Capricorn so pivitol is that it's our Pluto return so it is a "make or break" transit. Personally, when looking at Bush's chart, I don't see him finishing his term. I think as soon as 2007 he will be out.
Also, I think that the Pluto squared Uranus looks more like a some kind of civil revolution or even a civil war, since these are issues in the southern hemisphere of the chart. Though war abroad maybe an issue, it's most dramatic effect will be on the homefront with a very plutonian repressive government, but an population want to liberate itself in an Arian way. The people will not be in a mode to compromise.
I predict that we will have a loose confederation of North American states. As someone growing up on the US-Mexico border, this is already happening, effecting us economically and culturally. Hell, in Puerto Vallarta you don't even need to speak spanish. Americans are taking over Mexico, and vice versa.
The major reason for the civil unrest will be a major economic meltdown. The economy will be dissemated to the point of no return (I use the US's Sag rising chart, so the Pluto return will be about second house issues). Most importantly, I don't think that there will be a country that will not be left uneffected by the Pluto in Capricorn, but the US will really change the most dramatically.

Pluto, planet of transformation, deconstruction and reconstruction will move into Capricorn, sign of established government and money making enterprises, to stay till 2024. It will trigger the American chart’s cardinal T square from 2009 opposing Venus, Jupiter, the Sun and squaring Saturn through the following seven years. It may start with an optimistic push for success or power as the over confident Pluto Jupiter affect kicks in. The Ottoman Empire grew to greatness under Suleiman the Magnificent when Pluto was in Capricorn in 1515 to 1530, as he took over Arabia, captured Belgrade and attacked Vienna. Next time round for Pluto in Cap. in 1768, the Ottoman Empire lost Crimea, the effective end of the great empire which Suleiman created outside the Middle East.
Challenges Come in Threes
To add to the challenges running into the first half of the next decade, Saturn will also be in Libra from late 2009 to 2011, squaring Pluto in the heavens, suggesting major wars out in the world. [See Saturn Pluto below]. It also transits round the USA’s cardinal planets in these years, bringing strain, cutback and losses. Then in 2011, disruptive Uranus moves into Aries to pick up the cardinal square to Pluto, though it will have been in orb for three to four years previously. This brings upheavals, revolutions, violence, freedom fighters, an unsettling of the established order. [The Uranus Pluto conjunction of the mid 60s saw the Vietnam War at its height with anti-government US Civil Rights and Anti-Vietnam War demos.] 2014 sees Pluto opposing the USA Sun (until 2016) and Uranus in square to it (until 2015). This will be a time of tremendous ferment, chaos, perhaps anarchy, as old structures and authorities are swept away or violently opposed. By 2017 it will be time to pick up the pieces and start the process of assembling a new order, different governmental and justice systems, a reshaped economy. These major transits will also affect other Cardinal countries like the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, Saudi Arabia amongst others.
