WILLY WONKA AND PATRICK FITZGERALD
Is it raining? Is it snowing? Is a hurricane a-blowing? “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” was a children’s tale made into a movie. The story involved the most famous Chocolate Factory in the world, owned by Willy Wonka. Following a contest he chose 5 lucky children to enter his factory to see how he made his candy. Every room was magical, filled with delights but all along the way there was the hum of the Oompa Loompas warning the children of the perils of greed, self absorption, arrogance, egotism and lying. OOMPA LOOMPA DOOMPADEE DOO, I'VE GOT A PERFECT PUZZLE FOR YOU In the end, only Charlie the one good, true and honest boy, who stayed true to his values and what was proper, won the prize. Charlie is who I have on my mind as the world watches Patrick Fitzgerald, (12/22/1960, 8:43pm, Brooklyn, NY) and the awesome responsibility he holds in his hands. Is he the “good, true and honest man” we are looking for in this country? His Mars conjuncts the US Sun within 2 degrees and his Jupiter opposes his Mars; one result of that aspect would be an overweening pride in his accomplishments and his gratitude in the country he perceives offered him those opportunities. The Capricorn Jupiter in his chart opposing the US Sun holds the potential of feeling a level of protection toward his country. His Mercury resides in Sagittarius and Mercury in Sagittarius is known for honesty being a God to them. His Uranus conjuncts his Ascendant and trines his Mercury, he would be iconoclastic and capable of shockingly delivering the truth to those in power. Since he is in a career where delivering the “truth” can have dramatic consequences for those hearing his pronouncements, anyone under his gun would have reason to shake in their boots, and Pluto is making an unimpeded march toward his Mercury and will trine his Ascendant and Uranus. Our present day “Charlie” is holding a fairly strong winning hand, in fact it would be a dream come true winning hand as Neptune turns stationary direct on his Venus. Leo Ascendant and Uranus conjunct his Ascendant, it’s really doubtful he will fold before the hand is played. Another very interesting cross aspect and one to watch is the day the first Grand Jury subpoenas were delivered, May 21, 2004, Uranus was just past his Moon in Pisces, and Uranus rules the US Moon, making a sub-conscious tie to the American people. Mr. Fitzgerald’s Chiron conjuncts the US Moon which suggests the potential of a wounding or a healing of the people in the US. Jupiter in the May 21st chart is conjunct his Pluto, and transiting Uranus will oppose that after the first of the year. That is one of the “money” aspects, the “turning paupers into Kings and Kings into paupers” aspect. He does not dislike Karl Rove, Scooter Libby, Cheney or Bush; in fact he would be quite happy if they would come forward to cut a deal, he doesn’t dislike any of them. This is not a vendetta for Fitzgerald; he would see this as his job, nothing personal. I would not look to him as the new leader of the progressives or the person who leads the US out of her darkness, but he is unknowingly going to open the door so the US can see a glimmer of light at the end of this tunnel. The Plame investigation is only one room in Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, there are many more and they all wind around into places you wouldn’t expect only to find they are all interconnected. While there are those who wish to demonize this administration for the horrific things they have done, they aren’t demons. True, some are filled and have made the choice to respond to the events in their lives with hate and bitterness and fear and because of that they are about to turn into giant blueberries that will explode all over themselves. An astrologer can find both positive and negative in everyone’s chart, both energies swirl around us all the time, but our free will chooses how to use those energies on a daily basis. I would bet that George was sold a bill of goods in this job. He’s been sold and given different jobs through out his life with other people holding him up. He lets other people hold him up, do the dirty work, he just signs the papers put in front of him that they tell him he must sign. Now the people who promised to “take the heat” for him are in deep trouble and Saturn has just crossed his 1st house cusp giving him his first view of the enormity of the office of the President of the United States. The biggest crime he has committed is “not caring.” Everything stems from that, he didn’t care to learn about other countries, he didn’t care to learn about other cultures, he didn’t care to even learn about the people he is serving in this country. He doesn’t want to know what they experience, what they need, or how to work with us. We have allowed a man who is basically “The Truman Show” to be President of the United States, and now the persona developed for him by others is disassembling in front of us. It isn’t a coincidence that his troubles come just as “Reality TV” shows are tanking. It doesn’t matter now what happens to Rove, Cheney, Libby, they have lost completely and will not be able to rise from this. Their proximity to the office of the Presidency is a great detriment, and they will not be wanted by George Bush’s cabal (Poppa) Patrick Fitzgerald’s duties are nearly over, will we be able to turn, and as Willy Wonka turned to Charlie and say “a good deed never goes unnoticed.” Next week I will take you through another room in our own version of The Chocolate Factory, in the meantime, Oompa Loompa Doompa Doo, I’ve got a perfect puzzle for you.

The Rant By DOUG THOMPSON
White House insiders say George W. Bush’s mood swings have increased to the point where meetings with the President must be cancelled, schedules shifted and plans changed to keep a bitter, distracted leader from the public eye. “He’s like a zombie some days, walking around in a trance,” says one aide who, for obvious reasons, asks not to be identified. “Other times he launches into angry outbursts, cussing out anybody who gets near him.” Aides say gallows humor has descended on the White House, where the West Wing is now referred to as “death row” and Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove, along with Vice Presidential Chief of Staff Scooter Libby, are known as “dead men walking,” a reference to the last walk death row inmates take to the execution chamber. http://www.capitolhillblue.com/artman/publish/printer_7560.shtml Posted by: wv on October 23, 2005 12:22 AM
WASHINGTON, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- The Bush administration is bracing for a powerful new attack by Brent Scowcroft, the respected national security adviser to the first President George Bush. A Republican and a former Air Force general, Scowcroft is a leading member of the bipartisan foreign policy establishment, and his critique of both of the style and the substance of the Bush White House, is slated to appear in Monday's editions of the New Yorker magazine. The article also contains some critical comments on the handling of U.S. foreign policy by the current President Bush from his father, whose 1989-1993 presidency is hailed for deft management of the end of the Cold War, German unification, the first Gulf war and the collapse of the Soviet Union. http://www.upi.com/SecurityTerrorism/view.php?StoryID=20051021-051052-6225r Posted by: wv on October 23, 2005 12:43 AM
By Charles Sullivan 10/22/05 "ICH" -- -- It is painfully obvious that America is a land that worships the market economy. Big money is God here. Big money is all powerful, omnipotent. All solutions, as perceived by the captains of business, therefore, must be market based. Moreover, in the moribund perceptions of the ruling elite, the market must be totally unfettered. It must exist beyond the pale of conscience, bearing no responsibility to the people, or to the earth that sustains it. It must answer only to the bottom line and reject all other input—a function that it has executed only too well. From the market perspective, all of our nation’s problems spawned by market economics are not based upon real issues; they are matters for public relations—to be solved by public relations campaigns, not by addressing root causes. It is about manipulating public perceptions to serve corporate interests. In the corporate model, the public exists as they did in Benito Mussolini’s time, to support the fascist corporate agenda, no matter how detrimental it is to the public interest and to the earth. As we know, corporatism—itself a legal fiction—is succeeding only too well. http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article10715.htm Posted by: wv on October 23, 2005 12:48 AMSomething that I noted is that Neptune goes direct trian US Saturn. Posted by: janet on October 23, 2005 01:24 AMDear Sally, I've long argued that Bush is not an imbecile -- that he boasts a certain species of political intelligence which we overlook at our own peril. (Also, I agree with others who have argued that he's suffering from some kind of physical or mental deterioration, and has got much worse over the last few years. To which we'd have to add that his ostensibly unbounded power has had its utterly predictable effect on him.) The notion that he's just a gibbering halfwit is a rather pleasurable one to many who detest him. I've always argued, and still think, that the situation is in fact much worse than that. In one sense, though -- and it's exceedingly important -- Bush is a sort of imbecile: a moral imbecile. How much of this relates to, say, his neurological condition, and how much of it relates to the condition of (what we would have to call) his soul, I don't pretend to know. But there is something definitely missing there. For one thing, he's incapable of what child psychologists call reciprocity. He can't see things from any viewpoint other than his own, which he deems always right because it's his; and if you see things differently you're wrong, and bad, because your viewpoint isn't his. (He's often made it clear that he and God see things exactly the same way.) And then there's his amazing incapacity to recognize the difference between truth and lie. Specifically, he seems to be unable to perceive that his own propaganda lies are propaganda, or -- sometimes? often? -- that they're even lies. He also seems unable to perceive that claims of which he disapproves, or with which he disagrees, are not propaganda. As I note in Cruel and Unusual, he once rejected the idea that big food corporations ought to be required to list all the ingredients in their products: "I sense they want to run a propaganda campaign," he said -- referring to those who wanted all ingredients clearly listed. On the other hand, when he refers to "history," he's usually referring to some propaganda lie that, since everyone (him included?) bought it, must be precisely what occurred. So here he is today, refusing or unable to perceive that there is something deeply wrong -- illegal, immoral, unethical and ultimately lunatic -- with his regime's vast covert propaganda program. Since "there is a Justice Department opinion that says ... these pieces are within the law" and "factual," there can be nothing wrong with them, he said. Ignorance of the law is no excuse -- and neither is denial of reality. To say that he should be impeached does not begin to do him justice. Posted by: Janet Berres on October 23, 2005 02:36 AMGreat article Sally. Although I do think Rove and Cheney are on the evil side of the Bell curve. Jean, the Abramoff associated murder for hire was also associated with Delay. Salty stuff. Ready to be revealed. I think Bashir Al' Assad's days are numbered in Syria. Because the truth REVEILED would mean it got veiled over again...just wondering. Interesting if it is a typo, but needs defining! Sally, I've never seen the Willie Wonka movie or read the book, which I can hardly believe...but back in '04 I was asked to do a Sprint PCS commercial using and OOMPA LOOMPA and I had no idea what the hell that was! The O.L.s were stealling the socks out of the dryer (well, didn't you always wonder where the socks went?).... Funny how most of this stuff has revolved around fairy tales, or whatever you want to call them....it started in 2000 with 'The Emperor has no clothes" and is ending with Charlie.... Unless of course, it all gets reveiled. WV...god, Lewis Lapham is a a god of prose.... To sum up fascism (he also is talking about Umberto Eco's writings on fascism): The truth is revealed once and only once. Parliamentary democracy is by definition rotten because it doesn't represent the voice of the people, which is that of the sublime leader. Doctrine outpoints reason, and science is always suspect. Critical thought is the province of degenerate intellectuals, who betray the culture and subvert traditional values. The national identity is provided by the nation's enemies. Argument is tantamount to treason. Perpetually at war, the state must govern with the instruments of fear. Citizens do not act; they play the supporting role of "the people" in the grand opera that is the state. Jean, the trine of Saturn and Neptune is the opportunity to ground your dreams into reality. Remember this is a Universal aspect, not just for the US but for everyone, it will be especially impactful on those people or countries that have coordinates in the same mathematical path as the trine (as it is with every aspect) Posted by: Sally on October 23, 2005 05:37 AMEnjoyed the article as always, Sally. You've managed to "stand back" and observe from a distance the comic tragedy that the Willy Wonka fable illustrates, one that parallels this administration's acts. I can't remember the character's name, but in WWonka, the young girl who wants what she wants WHEN she wants it reminds me of Bush. When someone (Fitzgerald?) finally tells him "NO!" Bush is going to blow up! Correct me if i'm wrong, please, but Chiron seems to have a duality, for within the wounding is a healing. One feeds the other, or can. To me, the greatest learning opportunities (applicable to an individual and nation) are often harsh. It is only AFTER this wounding that we see the depth of character beneath, hidden from view all this time by some self deception. As a nation, we need to experience the harshness of reality, to see what has been hidden. It can be the beginning of great awareness, allowing healing to occur. karen Posted by: farrout on October 23, 2005 01:54 PMHere's a good reference article on the HAARP and who owns it and how it's being used to create all of the weather anomalies these days..... http://www.onlinejournal.org/Commentary/102205Mazza/102205mazza.html Posted by: Garry on October 23, 2005 02:33 PMTransiting Moon conjuncts his Uranus on Wed the 26th and Mercury Squares. Posted by: Laurie on October 23, 2005 04:50 PMSally, It seems like Jupiter moving into Scorpio will also support Fitzgerald in the months ahead, as it will begin soon to sextile his Sun, trine his Moon, and sextile his Pluto/NN in Virgo. So many of the issues revolving around the Plame leak are Scorpionic or Plutonian in nature: the CIA itself, the secrecy and lies of the WHIG to maintain power, the destruction caused by the Iraq war, which was born out of these very lies. Jupiter in Scorpio will hopefully bring all of this stuff into the legal realm for assessment. Because as murky as Pluto can be, it also completely dismantles that which does not act in accordance with the larger laws of the Universe. Posted by: gbs on October 23, 2005 04:56 PMSally, I am reading a fab article in the latest Esquire called Greetings from Idiot America by Charles P. Pierce (it may be online somewhere)....One of the paragraphs sounds so much like the influence of Neptune (he is writing about how Intelligent Design has suddenly become 'viable' by the idiots of america, when this country was founded on the premise of having an EDUCATED citizenry.) "The rest of the world looks on in cockeyed wonder. The America of Franklin and Edison, of Fulton and Ford, of the Manhattan project and the Apollo program, the America of which Einstein wanted to be a part, seems to be enveloping itself in a curious fog behind which it's tying itself in knots over evolution, for pity's sake, and over the relative humanity of blastocysts versus the victims of Parkinson's disease." I am hoping that the proximity of opposing Saturn to Neptune by transit will suddenly and thoroughly wake people up to the reality of the material world and put 'gut' based religion back to where it belongs....as part of one's personal faith, maybe, but not promulgated as 'science'. Posted by: judi g on October 23, 2005 06:01 PMI watched both Chris Matthews and Tim Russert this morning....I have never watched either of them before, and I wanted to see where they were going with the current news. I think Matthews did a poll and found that 100% (the nine people asked in the media) said that the Libby level people will be indicted, but that it wasn't a majority of the 9 who thought that it would reach to Rove or above. that would be a major disappointment, wouldn't it? And it was interesting to see Kay Bailey Hutchinson trying to nail Bill Clinton once again, also saying that Martha Stewart should never have gone to prison for SOMETHING SHE SAID ABOUT SOMETHING THAT WASN'T A CRIME (I heard the same 'talking point' come out of the mouth of a local SF politician on a local show, so you know it IS a rethug talking point). So it looks as if they are going to put that defense forward also....but as Frank Rich said, it sounds like the 'twinkie' defense. (In reference to the Dan White murder trial defense - Dan White shot and killed the mayor and gay coucilman Harvey Milk in SF back in 1978 or 79 and said it was because his blood sugar was high from eating a twinkie....he was acquited, at which point, the gay community rioted for 2 days in SF. Dan White committed suicide years later....perhaps after eating another twinkie.) Hutchinson looked decidedly put upon and nervous. So....how far will Fitzgerald go up the ladder in the indictments is the question, not IF he will indict, but how far up the chain....that is the question. Posted by: judi g on October 23, 2005 06:11 PMHere is a link to the deep background on the Plame outing....and of course, when we look at the timing of when the law against outing a CIA agent was passed, and who pushed it through, it is quite ironic in its current implications....a really helpful read.... Sally...that law was passed in 1982...23 years ago....in response to Philip Agee's book written in 1974 and published in 1975. We have a Saturn cycle climax....from outing to outing....and Bush to Bush at both ends. I can't do all the astro on this timing....I don't know what to do it with....to the USA chart, or the birth of the CIA or ....? Posted by: judi g on October 23, 2005 06:49 PMWhen I said there will be "disappointments" with these indictments is the fact they won't go far enough and it isn't the "trial." The Plame investigation is only the tip of the iceberg. There is still the Franklin Investigation and the Abhramoff Investigation and they all intertwine pointing to obscene corruption involving money laundering, greed, lies, maybe murder, spying, in short the "selling of the US" These investigations not only involve the Plame leakers but Senators, Representatives, involves voting fraud, Iraq and the 6 billion gone missing. This is a huge operation. Just in the US alone, it involves the Federal Reserve Bank and Greenspan, our law makers (Democrats and Republicans) some corporations, bankers all over the world, the Catholic Church and their Bank, it's huge and it has only begun to unravel. This is the hydra I've talked about, and the Plame investigation is only the opening of the door. We will be in chaos for years over this. Doubtful that too many will ever see jail time, but the important thing is they will be crippled and struggling to rise. Read this, it's just another little piece. We, including me, want quick answers but there aren't any quick answers, however, there are answers and with any luck people like Fitzgerald will get to them. http://www.amconmag.com/2005/2005_10_24/cover.html When I basically said Bush is a victim of all this, he is, just as we all are when we don't care enough about our fellow man to make a difference, and he doesn't care. He doesn't care about the torture, he doesn't care about people dying or starving, he doesn't care if innocent people are languishing in prisons, he doesn't care about the poor, the crippled, the sick, the mentally ill. He doesn't care if this country goes down the drain. So if someone says to him "sign this" we need to torture, we need to steal, we need to kill, we need to ignore, he says "OK" because he doesn't care. The French Revolution started in 1789 during the reign of his successor, Louis XVI. The Republican Rift This week in the magazine, Jeffrey Goldberg writes about Brent Scowcroft, the national-security adviser under President George H. W. Bush—and the former President’s best friend—who has been at odds with the current Administration. Here, with Amy Davidson, Goldberg discusses Scowcroft and the divide within the Republican party over Iraq. AMY DAVIDSON: Why is Brent Scowcroft worth writing about now? He’s been out of government for some time. JEFFREY GOLDBERG: For one thing, he’s a leading proponent of the “realist” school of foreign-policy thinking, which stands in opposition to the “transformationalist,” or neoconservative, or liberal interventionist—pick your preference—school. He also has a great deal of experience on the Iraqi question—he managed the first Gulf War for President George H. W. Bush, so it’s interesting to hear what he thinks of the current war. (Not much, as you can see from the article.) And he’s the best friend of the father of the current President, and the mentor of the current Secretary of State, so it’s worth exploring why the Administration of George W. Bush doesn’t listen to his advice on Iraq and other subjects. Scowcroft is a consummate diplomat and a careful man. And yet, reading the quotes in your story, it seems that he almost had to force himself not to lash out at the current Administration—and he didn’t always succeed. Is Scowcroft an angry man these days? http://www.newyorker.com/printables/online/051031on_onlineonly01
Bush Picks Bernanke As New Fed Chairman - - - - - - - - - - - -
October 24,2005 | WASHINGTON -- President Bush on Monday selected Ben Bernanke, chairman of the president's Council of Economic Advisers, to replace Alan Greenspan as Fed chairman, according to an administration official. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the nomination had not yet been announced. An announcement was expected at 1 p.m. EDT. KATHARINE Q. SEELYE You might have thought that the White House had enough on its plate late last month, what with its search for a new Supreme Court nominee, the continuing war in Iraq and the C.I.A. leak investigation. But it found time to add another item to its agenda - stopping The Onion, the satirical newspaper, from using the presidential seal. The newspaper regularly produces a parody of President Bush's weekly radio address on its Web site (www.theonion.com/content/node/40121), where it has a picture of President Bush and the official insignia. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/10/24/business/24onion.html?pagewanted=print Posted by: wv on October 24, 2005 06:22 PM
Sulzberger: "Some of Bill's 'culpas' were my 'culpas,' too" Wall Street Journal Dr. Bernanke was born on December 13, 1953, in Augusta, Georgia Treasuries fall on talk Bernanke is next Fed chief U.S. Treasury debt prices dipped on Monday on talk White House economic adviser Ben Bernanke would be named later Monday to head the U.S. Federal Reserve once Alan Greenspan retires early next year. Some market sources dismissed the price movements, saying they reflected generalized jitters that would accompany any succession at the Fed. But an undercurrent of anxiety surrounding Bernanke and his history as an inflation targeter was also cited in the bond market, and traders and strategists said downward movement in prices was consistent with such worries. Inflation targeters tie decision-making on interest rates to specific inflation targets -- a practice that worries some in the market because it can be overdependent on past inflation data instead of anticipating economic developments. "The bottom line is that he's been wrong about what's happening with inflation for two years," said Josh Stiles, senior bond strategist at IDEAglobal in NEW YORK. "He's more focused on structural disinflation forces than he is on the cyclical inflationary forces from excessive accommodation," Stiles said. Traders said the movement was across the yield curve but was concentrated on longer-dated securities -- a reflection of market worries that an inflation targeter might not be able to keep inflation under control. Benchmark 10-year notes , which reflect longer-term inflation worries more than shorter-dated notes, fell 11/32 to yield 4.43 percent, up from 4.39 percent on Friday. Trade in two-year notes was much more subdued after the news of Bernanke's likely appointment. Prices were down 2/32 to yield 4.24 percent, from 4.21 percent on Friday. "They're not embracing this guy right out of the chute," said a bond trader at one of Wall Street's primary Treasuries dealers. "He's going to have to prove his mettle." By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS WASHINGTON (AP) -- Five years ago, Ben Bernanke posed the prescient question in an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal, ''What Happens When Greenspan is Gone?'' President Bush was poised to answer on Monday: Replace Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan with Bernanke, a straight-talking Ivy League economist with a reputation for eschewing political ideology. In the world of economic theory and policy, Bernanke, 51, has espoused targeting inflation, stressed the importance of communication and transparency by the Fed and argued that the final say on debts and deficits lies with the president and Congress. Born in Georgia and raised in Dillon, S.C., Bernanke was an academic star. In sixth grade, he won the state spelling bee but missed higher acclaim when he faltered on the word ''edelweiss,'' a flower. He got a score of 1,590 on his SAT out of a possible 1,600, and then focused on economic numbers at Harvard. http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/business/AP-Bernanke-Profile.html?pagewanted=print Posted by: on October 24, 2005 07:55 PMlast post was mine... The pharmacy in question was not a Target pharmacy, but it's the same radical right attitude they're defending. After a sexual assault one recent weekend, a young Tucson woman spent three frantic days trying to obtain the drug to prevent a pregnancy, knowing that each passing day lowered the chance the drug would work. While calling dozens of Tucson pharmacies trying to fill a prescription for emergency contraception, she found that most did not stock the drug. When she finally did find a pharmacy with it, she said she was told the pharmacist on duty would not dispense it because of religious and moral objections.... To be taken within three to five days of unprotected intercourse, emergency contraception - also known as "Plan B" - prevents pregnancy by stopping ovulation, fertilization or implantation of a fertilized egg. The sooner the emergency contraception is taken after intercourse, the more effective it is. I'm told Monday's edition of the Italian daily La Repubblica has an article on Niger forgeries. And this one says the culprits are Rocco Martino, the Italian woman who works in the Niger embassy in Rome and the SISMI operative Martino named as his ultimate source. The motive, says Repubblica, was money. I've never named the SISMI colonel whom Martino said he (indirectly) got the documents from. But now Repubblica has. So I will too: his name is Antonio Nucera. (You see I've linked the story above. I haven't read the Italian original. I've only had the contents related to me. So let me put that small caveat to the entire post.) My experience with this case, going back almost two years now, is that whenever damaging new information was about to come out on the forgery mystery, the Italian government-cum-intelligence agencies put out substantial new information about what happened mixed with disinformation aimed at throwing people off their trail. And when I say 'their trail', I mean the complicity of Italian intelligence in the documents hoax itself. This fits in very well with that pattern. More.... Fitzgerald has also dispatched FBI agents to comb the CIA agent's residential neighborhood in Washington, asking neighbors again whether they were aware — before her name appeared in a syndicated column — that the agent, Valerie Plame, worked for the CIA. The questioning, described by lawyers familiar with the case and by the neighbors, occurred as Fitzgerald was thought to be readying indictments in the long-running inquiry into the leak of Plame's identity. It is a felony to knowingly identify an undercover agent, and the renewed questions this week suggested that the prosecutor remained focused on the breach of that secrecy. The inquiry has reached deep into the White House and focuses on Rove and Vice President Cheney's chief of staff, I. Lewis Libby. A deputy prosecutor called Rove's colleague this afternoon and interviewed him in depth about statements Rove may have made to reporters about the case, a lawyer familiar with the case said. Monday, October 24, 2005 - FreeMarketNews.com by staff reports In the context of all the indictments, both impending and already served, concerning PlameGate, it may seem overkill to consider what other countries are up to. However, according to a report on Uruknet.org, there is a distinct possibility that a French court might indict U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney, on charges of bribery, money laundering and misuse of corporate assets. The issue involves a $6 billion gas liquification factory, built in Nigeria on behalf of oil mammoth Shell by Halliburton - the company Cheney headed before becoming Vice President - and in partnership with Technip, a large French petroengineering company. The story says Judge Renaud van Ruymbeke, a renowned French jurist, has been probing the Nigeria deal since last October. According to accounts in the French press, it says, Judge van Ruymbeke believes that some or all of $180 million in so-called secret "retrocommissions" paid by Halliburton and Technip were, in fact, bribes given to Nigerian officials and others to grease the wheels for the refinery's construction. - ST from: http://www.freemarketnews.com/Feedback.asp?nid=644 Posted by: Pat C on October 26, 2005 04:17 PMG GORDEN LIDDY said W should be put in a monkey cage? By Doug Struck TORONTO, Oct. 25 -- As relations between the U.S. and Canadian governments have increasingly soured, Americans here are being viewed with suspicion, derided in jokes and shunned as representatives of a sinister force. One quick way for dinner speakers in Canada to win applause is to take verbal shots at the United States. President Bush is a frequent target of newspaper columnists. Pollster Michael Adams said Canadian views of the United States this month are the most unfavorable he has seen in 25 years. His findings coincide with the results of a survey of 17,000 Canadians in June by the Pew Research Center in which 53 percent viewed Americans as "rude, greedy and violent." http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/10/25/AR2005102501630_pf.html Posted by: wv on October 26, 2005 08:48 PM
Vice President for Torture Wednesday, October 26, 2005; A18 VICE PRESIDENT Cheney is aggressively pursuing an initiative that may be unprecedented for an elected official of the executive branch: He is proposing that Congress legally authorize human rights abuses by Americans. "Cruel, inhuman and degrading" treatment of prisoners is banned by an international treaty negotiated by the Reagan administration and ratified by the United States. The State Department annually issues a report criticizing other governments for violating it. Now Mr. Cheney is asking Congress to approve legal language that would allow the CIA to commit such abuses against foreign prisoners it is holding abroad. In other words, this vice president has become an open advocate of torture. His position is not just some abstract defense of presidential power. The CIA is holding an unknown number of prisoners in secret detention centers abroad. In violation of the Geneva Conventions, it has refused to register those detainees with the International Red Cross or to allow visits by its inspectors. Its prisoners have "disappeared," like the victims of some dictatorships. The Justice Department and the White House are known to have approved harsh interrogation techniques for some of these people, including "waterboarding," or simulated drowning; mock execution; and the deliberate withholding of pain medication. CIA personnel have been implicated in the deaths during interrogation of at least four Afghan and Iraqi detainees. Official investigations have indicated that some aberrant practices by Army personnel in Iraq originated with the CIA. Yet no CIA personnel have been held accountable for this record, and there has never been a public report on the agency's performance. It's not surprising that Mr. Cheney would be at the forefront of an attempt to ratify and legalize this shameful record. The vice president has been a prime mover behind the Bush administration's decision to violate the Geneva Conventions and the U.N. Convention Against Torture and to break with decades of past practice by the U.S. military. These decisions at the top have led to hundreds of documented cases of abuse, torture and homicide in Iraq and Afghanistan. Mr. Cheney's counsel, David S. Addington, was reportedly one of the principal authors of a legal memo justifying the torture of suspects. This summer Mr. Cheney told several Republican senators that President Bush would veto the annual defense spending bill if it contained language prohibiting the use of cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment by any U.S. personnel. The senators ignored Mr. Cheney's threats, and the amendment, sponsored by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), passed this month by a vote of 90 to 9. So now Mr. Cheney is trying to persuade members of a House-Senate conference committee to adopt language that would not just nullify the McCain amendment but would formally adopt cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment as a legal instrument of U.S. policy. The Senate's earlier vote suggests that it will not allow such a betrayal of American values. As for Mr. Cheney: He will be remembered as the vice president who campaigned for torture. © 2005 The Washington Post Company Hey WV, did you see this on cloakanddagger.de? CLOAK EXCLUSIVE! Are we all ready to RUMBLE morrow with INDICTMENTS Yes, Raj I have been ready and hope that it is just the beginning! Everybody: when viewing the Republican chart posted here yesterday from Star IQ, can anyone please tell me where one would be able to discern the vindictiveness, vileness, open hostility that permeated the personality/consciousness of the conservative collective? There has to be many indications in the chart for them to be so overbearing. I do not mean to come across as slandering, insulting, or smug but have harbored this question for a number of year and am sincere about wanting to know where these character flaws lie. Can any astrologers help? Posted by: Beverly on October 27, 2005 12:49 AMExcellent question, Beverly. Thnx! Posted by: shylurker on October 27, 2005 12:59 AMYour welcome shylurker. It seems to me as the conservatives are loosing ground, they become even more vile. But it is confusing to me also, because I have heard a number of conservatives say " I voted for Bush in 2000, and 2004, but I would vote to impeach him right now. But conservative politicians are rabid right now. Posted by: Beverly on October 27, 2005 01:21 AMBeverly, it is part of the same question that the conservatives ask about the looney left, as they call it (thank you, rightwing nuts). I have been collecting little mental 'snippets' from several people I know or know of recently, sort of looking at the same question. They stood out because of the bias exhibited in the comments...one came from a friend, a Repub real estate woman who said that her youngest brother didn't deserve to be taken care of (by fafmily, by society) because he had never married (forgetting, of course, that neither have I) and indulged in whores and drink and getting in trouble (he wasn't born with the best set of smarts...) BUT, I say, didn't he pay taxes all these years? Does his money say 'morally objectional' while your money says 'saint'? So I believe they, the conservatives, have strong judgemental psyches. They play judge and jury and are uninterested in most things which are not controlable. There is a need for control and for power and in some ways, I think, to negate really powerful emotions by suppression rather than working thru them. I got an email from a Yale educated conservative Vietnam vet Lawyer in response to the MoveOn.org vigil for tonight....even tho he was a vet, he wrote: It is ironic how these sorts of people did not give a rip about me when I wore the uniform, spit on us when we returned from RVN, did what they could to undermine anything the Army did, didn’t want us to have training time and dollars so we would be ready for whatever. You know what else? They still don’t give a rip except for the political value of these little shows. Sorry people. The men and women doing the hard work know better. Funny, even though he was talking about us protestors in the 1960's, he could be describing this man's army today.....and Rummy's intentions. The emotions just reek of hurt .
Beverly the Republican chart I use is the one they themselves say is the date of their "new" inception, although there are a couple of charts out there as both parties went through shifts and changes in the late 1700's and 1800's, I use the July 6, 1864 in Jackson Michigan. They have a tight Venus/Saturn square and another little more loosely square between Sun/Saturn. Both the Sun and Venus conjunct the US Sun giving them a sense of ownership of the US and with the Saturn square, they would operate at "the parent" do as I say, not as I do. Any square from Saturn introduces an element of fear of one's environment. The US itself has a Sun/Saturn square, so we relate well to the "daddy" figure, someone to take care of us, and the Republicans as a group would be involved with "we decide what's good for you." There is also a sense of detachment and coldness toward America itself, also a Puritan fear of sex, something Americans as a whole share with them. That's why the Clinton thing seemed so terrible to them. For them, the thought of someone sexually cavorting in the Oval Office was just too shocking. The only aspect the Democrats have in common with the US is their Moon conjunction to the US Moon, plus the Dem chart is all over the board, hard for them to come to a focus. The Dem Moon is conjunct by Pluto, the American Elite (those who really elect Presidents) just don't understand all that emotion, it frightens them and makes them feel as if they are "missing" something and that makes them angry. There is a lot more joy and spontaneous energy in the Dem Party, that makes them real nervous and they think the Dems are irresponsible and unreliable and would just give the country away. The "status quo" which would be the white men in the county, particularly the upwardlymobile white man, would lean more toward the Republicans, and voting patterns certainly indicate that to be true. Posted by: Sally on October 27, 2005 01:57 AMSally, when the Social Security issue was really hot, my boss, the upwardly mobile white corporate attorney with the one child in private school, whose idea of charity is giving money to his son's scout troop and his own church, looked at me and said "I believe in capitalism." Well, so do I, I told him. I also believe in having a sense of social responsibility, of heping others get on that upwardly mobile path. We can't all be millionaires but we can all achieve a better life if the odds aren't completely stacked against us. Sally, after thinking about it, I honestly think he and his "class" are afraid that we would take everything they have away from him. The so-called elite are afraid of we commoners. Just think of the power that implies. Posted by: Teresa on October 27, 2005 02:14 AMhttp://www.fourthturning.com/html/the_authors.html This is a book that turns history into prophecy. After years of examining the cycles of American history, we have reached this startling conclusion: Starting about ten years from now, America will enter an era of crisis - an era of political and social upheaval - that will extend until the late 2020s. We call this era a Fourth Turning. And we believe it will be a major threshold in the nation's history, climaxing with events on par with the Revolution, the Civil War, or World War II........more Why, thank you, Cap'n Sally! That was one more of your concise gems. Very nice! Posted by: shylurker on October 27, 2005 02:34 AMAnd, of course, there are the transits that will mark this dramatic and revolutionary period of time; The Cardinal Grand Cross of 2010, the Uranus-Pluto Square of 2012-15, Pluto's opposition of the US Sun in 2014-15, The US' Pluto Return in 2022, among others. Whatever becomes of the US government during this period of time, the American nation itself, in the wake of this period, will have had to endure a transformation that will result in a people very much changed, and perhaps, quite a bit wiser. We will have to be, in order to survive. A very radical Fourth Turning, indeed. Posted by: NEOBuckeye on October 27, 2005 02:41 AM
Oct. 27, 2005 | There is no one left to rescue the Republican Party from George W. Bush. He is home alone. Miers told the president she was withdrawing at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. In her letter dated Thursday, Miers said she was concerned that the confirmation process "would create a burden for the White House and our staff that is not in the best interest of the country." She noted that members of the Senate had indicated their intention to seek documents about her service in the White House in order to judge whether to support her nomination to the Supreme Court. "I have been informed repeatedly that in lieu of records, I would be expected to testify about my service in the White House to demonstrate my experience and judicial philosophy," she wrote. Net income rose to $9.9 billion, or $1.58 a share, in the third quarter from $5.68 billion, or 88 cents a share, a year earlier. Excluding a gain of $1.62 billion from restructuring its stake in a Dutch gas transportation business, earnings were $1.32 per share. On that basis, analysts' average forecast was $1.39, according to Reuters Estimates. The company's oil and gas production fell 4.7 percent from a year earlier, hurt by outages caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The hurricanes ripped through the Gulf of Mexico in the third quarter, disrupting energy operations in the region and sending oil prices and refining margins sharply higher. Shares of Exxon Mobil, the largest of the so-called ''super-major'' oil companies, rose more than 10 percent in the quarter, underperforming the broader Standard & Poor's integrated oil and gas index, which rose more than 13 percent.

By John Pilger At the Nuremberg trial of the Nazi leadership, counts one and two, "Conspiracy to wage aggressive war and waging aggressive war", refer to "the common plan or conspiracy". These are defined in the indictment as "the planning, preparation, initiation and waging of wars of aggression, which were also wars in violation of international treaties, agreements and assurances". A wealth of evidence is now available that George Bush, Blair and their advisers did just that. The leaked minutes from the infamous Downing Street meeting in July 2002 alone reveal that Blair and his war cabinet knew that it was illegal.
' "Our political program will focus more on getting the Americans out of Iraq," Hussein al-Falluji, a prominent Sunni who took part in talks on the constitution, told Reuters. ' Sally: Thank you for the time you spent helping me understand the conservative mind/heart from the standpoint of their chart. It is so evident now, that they are very aligned with the Venus/Saturn contacts you mention as indicated by their collective behavior within the party . From everything I have read in astrology books, it is that Saturn that you indicate in the chart that they must "break through" in order to move into the more all-encompassing wholeness of the trans Saturnian planets to Uranus, Neptune, Pluto. Makes me wonder if they should disband and start all over, if they are in this process, and the Star IQ article seems to indicate this, if they will ever be able as a group to integrate the Saturian element in an effort to expand a new inclusive political outlook. It sounds to me when I talk that I am be overly critical...and that is not my intention at all.We all need to find a way to bridge the polarization, but I think most keenly the conservative party is required to. And we do this individually first. Perhaps in future, parties will be eliminated and we will find an effective way to run our country as a-political. I think the move of Saturn out of Cancer has helped a lot in this respect in that insecurity/fear isn't so palpable. Just want to mention too, that that Saturn element also keeps them stuck in their righteous religious outlook, instead of the more inclusive spiritual outlook. You can't get to spirituality until you get past Saturn. Judi G. Everything you have described about your conservative encounters, fall right in line with Sally's description. I have a lot of my own such encounters. That is why all the input and sharing I find here is so important and valuable to me. Posted by: Beverly on October 28, 2005 12:50 AM
Bid for More Home Heating Aid Fails in Senate Associated Press Thursday, October 27, 2005; A02 The Senate decided yesterday the money was not there for a substantial spending boost for the federal home heating program, deflecting arguments that soaring energy prices could force the poor to choose between heat and food this winter. Senators voted 54 to 43 in favor of a proposal to boost the fiscal 2006 budget for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program from $2.2 billion to $5.1 billion. A 60-vote majority was needed to approve new spending not coupled with equivalent spending cuts. Northern senators who pushed for increased spending for the program, led by Jack Reed (D-R.I.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine), argued that low-income families would be particularly hurt by the surge in fuel costs. People could have to "choose between keeping the heat on, putting food on the table or buying much-needed prescription drugs," Collins said. "No family should need to make such terrible choices." Reed cited estimates that those who heat their homes with fuel oil will need $1,600 this winter, up $380, and the cost of using natural gas for heating could rise $500, to $1,400. The Senate also defeated, 53 to 46, an alternative put forward by Budget Committee Chairman Judd Gregg (R-N.H.) that would have increased spending on the program by about $1.3 billion. The measure would have paid for the increase with an across-the-board cut of almost 1 percent in programs included in a $146 billion spending bill covering health, education and labor programs. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) said that education grants for low-income children would be cut by $118 million, affecting 37,000 youths, and that Head Start would lose $63 million. It was the third time this month that Reed unsuccessfully offered a LIHEAP amendment to a spending bill. He said he would keep trying. It occurs to me that Reid may have sunk the Harriet Miers' nomination from the beginning by publicly stating he was ok with it, (LOL). Anyhow, I was thinking there was birth info on Miers here but somehow I didn't see it just now. Have been reading a lot about Miers from people who have known her and my take is that she is what I call a "good little girl." Nothing against her, especially, except that she sits up straight, folds her hands, and does exactly what the Teacher (or whoever the authority figure is) asks of her. Which is why her statements seemed so contradictory. It just all depended on who she was talking to. On the Supreme Court she would have done whatever her boss (Mr. Bush) asked. Thanks, Harry. "What we're fighting is so much larger than a single court case or a single district attorney in Travis County," the Texas Republican wrote. "We are witnessing the criminalization of conservative politics." DeLay stepped down as House majority leader after he was indicted Sept. 28 on charges he illegally funneled corporate campaign contributions to candidates for the Texas Legislature. DeLay has launched an aggressive defense, seeking to have the judge removed because of his Democratic political activity and accusing the Democratic district attorney who charged him, Ronnie Earle, of pursuing the case for political reasons. The letter was prepared for the Republican Party newsletter in DeLay's home county of Fort Bend. Party chairman Eric Thode said he also e-mailed it to about 2,000 Fort Bend County households and to state and national elected and party officials. All Saints' Day, feast of the Roman Catholic and Anglican churches, and day on which churches glorify God for all God's saints, known and unknown. It is celebrated on Nov. 1 in the West, since Pope Gregory IV ordered its church-wide observance in 837. Its origin lies earlier in the common commemorations of martyrs who died in groups or whose names were unknown, which were held on various days in different parts of the Church; over time these celebrations came to include not only the martyrs but all saints. During the Reformation the Protestant churches understood “saints” in its New Testament usage as including all believers and reinterpreted the feast of All Saints as a celebration of the unity of the entire Church. In medieval England the festival was known as All Hallows, hence the name Halloween [=All Hallows' eve] for the preceding evening. Pat QOP, My thoughts precisely. Berlusconi...well, just ask the EU people about him! It will all come out in the wash. The planets have had it with Shrub and Co. I'm beginning to believe in white light again. Posted by: Beasley on October 28, 2005 04:46 AMRove unindicted but under investigation? What fun. Fitzgerald would be crafting Karl's own private prison. No one would trust him, the tension around him would be horrific. No one could share much with him, nor could he share much on his own, everyone would have to be so very careful because "under investigation" could mean that he could be called in at any time, have his notes examined any time, those he had conversations with could be questioned. Oh, "under investigation" is so much worse than indictment. Beverly, there is a potential for the GOP to break through some of that Venus/Saturn tension, Neptune is in a trine to their Saturn and inconjunct to the Venus, so there's a chance. Still a mystery If Patrick Fitzgerald knows who first leaked Valerie Plame's name to Robert Novak, he still isn't saying. The indictment filed against Scooter Libby today refers to the "senior administration official" as "Mr. A" -- and says that Libby was aware that "Mr. A" had leaked to Novak. -- Tim Grieve Libby indicted on charges of lying in Plame case Scooter Libby, the chief of staff for Vice President Dick Cheney, has been indicted on charges of perjury, obstruction of justice and making false statements for allegedly lying about how and when he learned and disclosed then-classified information about Valerie Plame, the office of special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald has just announced. The indictment against Libby alleges that he learned of Plame's identity from Cheney. It alleges that Libby discussed Plame's identity with Time's Matthew Cooper, NBC's Tim Russert and the New York Times' Judy Miller -- and that revealing Plame's identity had the potential of putting CIA agents at risk and damaging national security. The 22-page indictment charges that Libby began looking into Joseph Wilson's trip to Niger in May 2003. That's several months before Robert Novak revealed Valerie Plame's identity but around the same time that Nicholas Kristof wrote a column in the New York Times in which he mentioned -- without using Wilson's name -- Wilson's criticism of the Bush administration's use of pre-war intelligence. The indictment charges Libby with lying to investigators about what he told reporters -- and lying to reporters about what, and how, he knew about Plame. Although the indictment does not appear to charge Libby with a crime in connection for the leak itself, Fitzgerald has issued a statement that seems to take issue with the early Republican spin -- articulated over the weekend by Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison -- that charges related to the cover-up rather than to an underlying crime would be "perjury technicalities." Fitzgerald said: "Without the truth, our criminal justice system cannot serve our nation or its citizens." -- Tim Grieve

By Sheila Samples What attorney in his or her right mind would take on the mission of defending a gaggle of treasonous liars and warmongering murderers against the clearly stated, time-tested legal boundaries of the United States Constitution? Is there an attorney so ignorant of Constitutional law or so loyal to George W. While many people were left confused by news reports that said Rove wouldn't be indicted Friday, the lawyers said that Rove remains under intense scrutiny and added that Fitzgerald is betting on the fact that he can secure an indictment against Rove on charges of perjury, obstruction of justice, the misuse of classified information, and possibly other charges, as early as next week.
