Pluto Lord of the Eclipse
In the wee hours of the morning of October 3, 2005 Pluto, the Lord of the Eclipse sits upon the throne of mid-heaven in the New Moon Solar Eclipse chart conjuncting Pluto on the mid-heaven of the Autumnal Ingress (AI) chart. The Ingress chart is the mother of events foreshadowed by the eclipse by virtue of the Suns fiery release of elemental energy at each one of the years critical moments. (Starcats Astrolaw). Pluto is more often associated with death, rebirth and regeneration, like the Death card in a Tarot deck Pluto is associated with irrevocable and unstoppable change. Pluto's mythology is tied to Hades, as another name for Hades coined by the Ancients, "the god of the dead and ruler of the Underworld, in which the shades of dead human beings and certain mythological creatures such as the Titans were confined. He was a son of Cronos and Rhea and hence the brother of Jupiter, Neptune, Juno, Hestia and Demeter. His consort was Demeter's daughter Persephone. The name Hades was considered unlucky and used as little as possible, leading to the use of euphemistic titles such as Pluto ('the Rich' - Dis in Latin). He was thought to make the crops grow and produce wealth. The Underworld was a prison, but it was not a hell and Hades was a grim god but not evil." (Pluto mythological reference). Demeter, Persephone's mother is also known as Ceres, and her asteroid shares her properties.

Well, Morgana! This one just took my breath away. Gotta go re-read as the scope and import are amazing. Many thanks! Posted by: shylurker on October 3, 2005 05:09 AMOutstanding Morgana and you are so right this is going to be a month and a half and only a warm up of what's to come. Mars is Parigee, and Lunar extremes we have not seen the likes of which since 1987. With Mars moving to it's every 60,000 years close pass to earth (began in 2003 and ending in 2006) I am wondering about Zena's impact except as the herald to feminine power. Zena was at 0 degrees Aries in 1900, and has only moved to 20 degrees Aries today, however planets hitting her could have a big impact. Just loved your article Morgana, the music, ah the music Posted by: Sally on October 3, 2005 05:12 AM"the whack job(s) running the White House and like the Devil to whom they sold their covetous souls" Great line. The star of the new ABC drama, which follows the first woman President of the United States, lashed out at the real White House during a dramatic sit down interview with the BBC. Sutherland ripped Bush and his administration for the war and Hurricane Katrina fallout. "They were inept. The were inadequate to the task, and they lied," Sutherland charged. "And they were insulting, and they were vindictive. And they were heartless. They did not care. They do not care. They do not care about Iraqi people. They do not care about the families of dead soldiers. They only care about profit." At one point during the session, Sutherland started crying: "We stolen our children's future... We have children. We have children. How dare we take their legacy from them. How dare we. It's shameful. What we are doing to our world." Sutherland went on rip Karl Rove's "methods and means" against people like Cindy Sheehan. "We're back to burning books in Germany," Sutherland said of NBC's editing out of Kanye West's comment on Bush during a hurricane relief telethon. Your writing just keeps getting better and better! Tick-tock, time is running out for this administration, literally. BUT. . .have they saved a final trick? What rabbit are they going to pull out of the hat? Harriet Meyers? The newest nominee for the supreme court, er i mean the grand inquisition, was just announced @ 8:01 or thereabouts EDT, DC. The above right-wing idealogue (and you can bet she is) has been a Bush advisor for ten years. There are plans within plans within plans. This does not bode well. And Pat C, your statement was profound. . .that this administration reflects out what it is doing. Last night i thought about The Teflon res (Reagan), Tricky Dick, Slick Willy. What should we call this resident? And, will anything "stick"? karen Posted by: farrout on October 3, 2005 01:41 PM
Ms. Miers, 60, a longtime confidant of the president's, has never been a judge, and therefore lacks a long history of judicial rulings that could reveal ideological tendencies. Her positions on such ideologically charged issues as abortion and affirmative action are not clear. Many of President Bush's allies had lobbied the president to choose a conservative justice to replace Justice O'Connor, a key swing vote on the court, in order to affix a conservative stamp on the court for years to come. The president has vowed to turn the court rightward. Democrats in the Senate however, have warned that a conservative pick to replace a moderate justice would lead to a drawn-out partisan battle. Take, for example, Richard Pombo, the chairman of the House Resources Committee, who is proposing to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling, allow states to opt out of a longstanding moratorium on offshore drilling, and suspend judicial and administrative reviews of federal decisions to open public lands for oil and gas leasing. This is the same Richard Pombo who proposed last week - joking, he said - to sell off a few lesser-known national parks if money from the Arctic refuge was not forthcoming. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/10/03/opinion/03mon2.html?pagewanted=print Posted by: wv on October 3, 2005 01:53 PMFolks, i don't like where this is going with Miers. (sorry for the misspelling earlier.) With Roberts and Miers on the court (given that Miers is confirmed) this administration is covering their doo-doo as fast as it lands on the ground. Let's say Fitzgerald already has testimony linking Bush, Cheney, Rove to Plame. Let's say they all committed impeachable offenses (which they did). So? The rethug congress will make certain a vote to impeach does not see the light of day. Further, the stacked court may grant Bush, et al even greater power (at least in writing) than currently exists. To pull this off, they'll have to suspend the vote as well, since there will be ground swell support for any candidate that's not a rethug. Despite the "handwriting writing on the wall" of this administration's offenses, i'm not sure they won't pull this off. Overturn Passe Comitatus, create another "event" on US soil, invade Iran, etc., etc. As wv posted above, they're already raiding the treasury. karen Posted by: farrout on October 3, 2005 02:58 PMAn impeachment trial, if it were to happen, would go before the Congress, not the Supreme Court. Roberts, because he is Chief Justice, would preside over the proceedings, but he would probably have to recuse himself, as a W. appointee. Similarly, if any criminal cases involving Bush or people in his admin came before the Supreme Court, Roberts and Miers (if she's confirmed) would need to recuse themselves. American civilian defence group begins patrols of Canada-U.S. border LAUREN LA ROSE
For the month of October, the Minuteman Civil Defence Corps will take watch from their cars and lawn chairs, with binoculars at the ready, in eight northern U.S. states bordering seven Canadian provinces. The volunteer group will have observers in Washington, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire and New York. Some posts will be on border watch 24/7. The Minutemen report to border officials when they observe individuals trying to illegally enter the U.S. Peter Buck of the Minutemen's New England chapter said the American government is failing to supply the manpower needed to secure the northern border. "If POTUS is on the road, you can breathe a little easier," says an aide. Otherwise, it is one temper tantrum after another from Bush, whose "cakewalk war" has turned into interminable conflict, whose idiocy in diverting funding for New Orleans' levees to war in Iraq was disastrous for the famous city, and whose Social Security privatization has been rejected by the electorate. http://www.antiwar.com/roberts/?articleid=7472 gbs, you're correct. As i stated earlier, however, Congress will NOT act. The stacked court WILL, however, enact even more draconian law including overturn of Roe v Wade. I also understand that if Congress DID move to impeach, Bush COULD ignore their will. I'm not certain that either Roberts or Miers would recuse themselves were this scenario to play all the way to the supreme court. I'm not sure what law would apply that would force them TO recuse themselves. karen Posted by: farrout on October 3, 2005 04:27 PM
karen, I was under the impression that a SC justice had to recuse themselves if there was a conflict of interest in a case they were hearing, but apparently it's only voluntary. So technically Roberts and Miers could stay on the court to hear a case having to do with Plame or any other kind of Bush wrongdoing. Posted by: gbs on October 3, 2005 05:11 PM Immediately Oppose the Outrageous Nomination of Harriet Miers Dear Senator Spector I hope you are feeling the same level of outrage as I am. You have been handed a nomination that smacks of pure cronyism, an instant replay of the vice presidential nomination—where the person delegated to help select the nominee selected herself. We have a nominee who accepted a plum partisan appointee job as Lottery director for six years. This is not in itself, bad, but it is not good enough for a member of the supreme court. A person who takes a job like this is allowing herself to coast, unchallenged by growth opportunities, accepting an easy path to comfortable income. This is not the character we want in a member of the supreme court. Based on this nomination, president Bush must believe we must have zero good judges who have enough experience and competence. This woman is a purely partisan player who promises to make Michael Brown look good. http://www.opednews.com/articles/opedne_rob_kall_051003_immediately_oppose_t.htm http://villagevoice.com/news/0540,webmondo2,68426,2.html By nominating Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court, President Bush is turning to a trusted advisor who has a reputation for keeping her mouth shut—and putting her in a key position for damage control. Her nomination might make people like Karl Rove, Scooter Libby, and Tom DeLay breathe a little easier. She is, as Bush has said, "a pit bull in size 6 shoes." If confirmed, Miers will be the president’s woman on the Supreme Court. She would replace Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, a Republican pick for the court who has turned out to be more of a swing voter than some right-wing Republicans would like. Never a judge, Miers is a longtime GOP functionary, and has pumped thousands of dollars into the campaigns of right-wing GOP stalwarts in Texas—from Phil Gramm to Kay Bailey Hutchison. It must be noted that in 1988 she gave money to Democrats—$1,000 to Al Gore in his first try for president and $1,000 to Lloyd Bentsen for Senate. Above all, Miers is loyal to President Bush. It’s hard to imagine her putting faithfulness to the Supreme Court above faithfulness to the Bush family. She reportedly recommended Alberto Gonzalez to be Bush’s counsel when Bush was governor of Texas. Miers was Bush’s personal lawyer in Texas, coming with him to the White House in 2001 as a staff secretary—the person who checks out all documents before they go to the president. Miers became a deputy counsel, then counsel when Gonzalez was elevated to attorney general. Miers is a former president of Locke, Purnell, Rain & Harrell and former chair of the Texas Lottery Commission. Locke, Purnell, Rain & Harrell have given at least $65,000 to Bush campaigns and are major backers of tort reform. “One case involved a unique law—passed under former Gov. George Bush—that blocked Texas consumers from recovering $6 billion in overcharges on car loans and allowed dealers to keep kickbacks secret,” reported Light Up the Darkness. “Two consumer groups have called on the Texas Legislature to repeal it. Locke, Purnell, Rain & Harrell were defendants of the litigation, which included auto dealers in Texas.” Miers was chair of the state lottery commission from 1995 to 2000, at a time when the agency was tied up in a case involving Gtech. That’s the company that ran the lottery, and was accused of alleged kickbacks and illegal contracts. The case also involved former lieutenant governor Ben Barnes—the same pol who claimed to have helped the young Bush get into the National Guard. September 30, 2005: “The main topic of conversation hereabouts is the nailing of the odious Bush ramrod, DeLay, for money laundering. He will not go quietly into the good night of political oblivion and is rushing around the Beltway, pretending that he is still in charge and attacking the Texas authorities for nailing him on charges that everyone here knows are dead on. In spite of his bluster, many Repubicans are eying DeLay’s position with barely concealed interest and already, there are groups meeting here and there debating who is going to get his job and all the money that goes with it. DeLay is a nasty shit but he kept the Republicans in the House under his iron thumb with a nice mixture of bribery and threats. His loss will put paid to the Bush/Robe plan to cinch up a permanent Republican majority in Congress for decades to come. With the Mid Terms coming up and Bush’s popularity falling (29% by the latest private GOP poll) you will see more and more legislators moving away from Bush’s extreme right position and more towards more publicly accepted fiscal moderation. Moderate Repblicans will be the first to move towards the center and then the others will slowly follow. Three men now run the United States: VP Cheney, until he was caught, DeLay in Congress and Karl Rove, the Evil Puppet Master who was Bush’s pet character assassin and head schemer. It now looks like the Machinery is going to cut the balls off of Rove (if in fact he has any) and without these two men, Bush is, to be crude but accurate, up shit creek without a paddle. He is helpless and utterly useless without a powerful support system and he will pretty soon get so frightened and helpless that back comes the bottle. I can’t wait for him to slap his wife on camera or start mumbling incoherently at an ad hoc press event. The latter is more probable and his immediate staff, who love the power that comes from licking his bum, are looking all over the Oval Office for the Hidden Bottle.” Posted by: wv on October 3, 2005 05:18 PMEXTRA GOOD JUJU NEEDED! John Hannah, Cheney's special assistant for Middle East affairs, was fingered early on in this investigation. Last year, Richard Sale of UPI reported a rare leak from the investigators: "'We believe that Hannah was the major player in this,' one federal law-enforcement officer said. Calls to the vice president's office were not returned, nor did Hannah and Libby return calls. The strategy of the FBI is to make clear to Hannah 'that he faces a real possibility of doing jail time' as a way to pressure him to name superiors, one federal law-enforcement official said." Hannah has an interesting background. In the early 1990s, he served as head of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy (WINEP), a think tank associated with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). As Middle East scholar Juan Cole pointed out, Hannah was a key figure in the intelligence-manipulation effort that legitimized phony "evidence" of Iraq's WMD cooked up by the fraudster Ahmed Chalabi. In 1994, Thatcher fled Texas for South Africa after he was charged with racketeering in a $6 million civil action. In January 2005, Thatcher pleaded guilty to violating South Africa's anti-mercenary laws and was fined $505,000 and allowed to leave for Britain. I have never been prone to fantasy, but do think that something big is in the works, but it's not intuition either, because I am not strong in that. We don't really even need a president. Couldn't we go back to the Greek system of a House/Senate? Restructured and refined, ofcourse. Cybear.....how interesting, we are both talking in opposite directions about three minutes apart. Yes, I am hoping the lopsided situation in Washington does collapse, and a part of me believes it. Restoring some balance has been long overdue. I look at a lot of U.S. predictions, but none of the astrologers really predict a crumble, just mostly chaos. Posted by: Beverly on October 5, 2005 01:10 AMFor 66 years my intuition has been correct. Skylurker i went and voted and was surprised that so many voted no, not nearly enough, but i rather suspect that most americans would give way to the military without realizing the implication of martial law. The Bush Regime, along with DeLay, the Thatchers, Cheney, the NeoCons, Clintons, and everyone else in on the big "game" are all playing their part. The problem (for them) is that they don't yet realize which part. Or maybe they do, but they haven't read the next act. Somebody in authority is going to be swept away during the coming Uranus-Pluto Square of 2012-2015 when the people finally rise up and fight back against an increasingly oppresive, entirely self-serving and tyrannical power regime. It couldn't happen to a more miserable bunch of thugs, thieves and cowards. Then again, maybe I'm too optimistic? Pat QofP - I'm with you on the intuition. Mine seems to be getting sharper and sharper and I am really getting nervous about what I am picking up from the cosmos. I think the Bird Flu is already here and it's just a few months until it gets to where it cannot be hidden any longer. Doctors are prescibing hardcore antibiotics for chest colds here in Houston. Makes you wonder what they are being told, or what they already know. Beverly - Like a crooked card game, the cards are being stacked in the necroporns favor. My gut says they are about to pull something big. Martial law is just around the corner. Actually it's already here. It's just a matter of time before we are "attacked" again and then they will have total control of the game. I really believe that they are planning something bigger than 911 to fulfill their unholy agenda. My predictions are for December. Possibly 12/21, 22, or 23rd. I keep waking up at 12:22am, have been for years and lately I seem to always look at the clock at 12:22 or 12:23. My guides are telling me to get ready, things are going to change in ways we could not ever imagine. Also, an old medicine man (real) friend says that something big will happen on 12/22, but he can't pin point the year, but he is also nervous. tseka - There has been a shift in the energies, but shift has been to the negative. Take a look around and you may see it clearly. This is global, not local....On the surface it looks positive, but see through the illusion and you will see it's dark origins. We are in the calm before the storm right now and it's a matter of time before the proverbial sh*t hits the fan. NeoB - I think they know exactly what they are doing. While the Venus/Saturn combination suggests a time of sorrow, the Moon/Pluto combination suggests a time of intense emotional turmoil and fear. Combined, as they are in the latter weeks of December and the first weeks of January, they strongly suggest some painful and disturbing emotional experience for at least some part of the country." Can anyone expound on this aspect and all of its possible meanings? Pat QOP, Every warm day means one more day that the gas/oil/electric companies can't take all our money. Even if Meier is confirmed, if Shrub is impeached she cannot prevent it. The congress is already splitting. One more huge gaff and the fecal matter will come back to choke the already fetid crew. I really think 2006 is going to be our year. The threads are spinning, the tapestry is beginning to take shape. Please be patient...one domino at a time. Let Shrub's Jupiter play on and on and on. Pearl Harbor was attacked on a bright sunny day when Jupiter and Venus were conjunct. Jupiter is not always good luck...he can be careless, sloppy, arrogant and indescriminate. And Venus has a very, very dark side. Ceres is pretty pissed off and Saturn will grind on. Keep the faith. And keep writing letters, screaming at your leaders and non-leaders, ever vigilant of dirty tricks and pustulant maneuvers. Four years ago Cindy Sheehan, Downing Street, Valerie Plame had not even been in our imagination. These factors are not going away and more will come our way. Pustulant...one huge, oozing mass of toxic biological matter...Karl Rove's brain. Sepsis in 2006. Posted by: Beasley on October 5, 2005 04:29 AMCybear, I don't think Reagan was deep and imaginative enough to conjure up by himself, something as comprehensive as the NWO. This was in the works well before his time -- probably going back to Rockefeller and the original American Robber Barons, and the jingoist/imperialist British elitists, picking up on various Nazi/fascist influences along the way. It will all play out, of course. But not at all likely in the way they had planned. Posted by: NEOBuckeye on October 5, 2005 04:55 AMThanks for the hearty belly laugh Beasley! I have had the 12:22 thing happening for about 20 years now and I have come across others who have the same thing occuring it make's me wonder if there's something to it. Nancy's article confirms it in a way that something big will happen near in that time frame. Posted by: NEOBuckeye on October 5, 2005 05:21 AMGerry, the progressed Moon opposes Pluto every 25-27 years or so. Also in-between those 25-27 years there are squares and conjunctions to Pluto. A progressed Moon oppose Pluto is sometimes death of a woman, arguments with a woman, power struggles with women (now that might begin for this country) The opposition is from the 8th to the 2nd house, so it could be money or the expected shift of the majority of the world's money and how it is spent falls to women (that fact is already here and by 2010 it is expected that women will "control" not own, but "control" 95 percent of all the money spent in the world. In this Century, the Moon opposed Pluto around 1923 and the good times were rolling in the USA, again it opposed in 1951, the US was moving toward it's largest expansion ever (the post-war building period) in 1978 Carter was having problems and we were in an oil crisis, but an initiative had been launched for alternative fuel sources. Frankly one can find as many positives as negatives in the coming charts (except for the Mars retrograde) we can look out beyond us and choose to see hope or despair. George Bush and his friends see fear and despair, and Bill Clinton plunging into that black mold, diseased, foul smelling city of NO and was bounding around shaking hands. I was so taken with the post above of the person "tending their garden" and thought with a smile that transits have come and gone through the centuries, fear has risen and fallen, disasters have happened but there are people always "tending their gardens," doing their jobs with as much care and love as they can muster. That is the true gift of earth and humanity. For every Leo, Scorpio, Taurus, and Aquarius struggling under the transit of Saturn, there is Sagittarius,Gemini, Libra, and Aries that are feeling that yoke lift a little from them and will soon see they have made solid gains. And Cancers? God bless the Cancers they are starting to feel free for the first time in over two years (unless they have a bunch of Leo planets.) Martial Law? Even the Military is against it. It is so past time for my old study hall buddy, little "Dickie Myers" to retire, go home to KC (or wherever he lives now) and let a better man take his place. But if the DOD puts foot soldiers on the streets with guns to take the place of the police with guns, doubtful we will rise up against it, but the Governors might, they do not want to give up their state power. Letting events unfold is often times better than projecting into the future, thereby creating what we project, so it will be waiting for us when we actually get there. I kind of think the "shift" we are all feeling is a positive one, or a positive direction. The jokes are flying fast and furiously on late night about this president, and the audiance is laughing, this is a good thing. Posted by: Sally on October 5, 2005 07:30 AMWell Morgana, You sure covered a lot of ground, or more accurately, a lot of sky. Thanks for the charts. The genie is out of the bottle, and the toothpaste can't be pushed back in the tube :) Americans and the World have seen I don't remember whether I read it or heard it, but the flu is in many countries that are not admitting it. They are keeping it quiet. My thoughts have, along with yours, been on Xena. Coming soon to a neighborhood near you: the century of the warrior princess. That's what I was thinking too. Just as Pluto brought in the makings of THE bombs, Xena seems to be saying, it's time for THE women. And it has been the women stirrig the pot: Plame, Sybil, Cindy, and who next? It may be that the next president will be a woman... I'm certainly not thrilled with Hillary, nor the republicans pushing condosleesa. He just doesn't let go of bringing down martial law does he? Tried to pull it on Madame Blanco, but that didn't work, now preparing Americans that they'll have to be "isolated" if the flu hits. hmmmmm. We must all continue to develop our skills, despite the energy of chaos. A balance will be found. It is a Universal Law, the only law we must all abide by. Like Cybear and others, i have long felt that a progression of events are taking place with the intent to control populations, currency and land mass. I'm also inclined to believe that the reason for suggesting that the military be placed in charge of any future "event" is purposeful for another reason. Robbery. Filter more money to the Department of Defense. This is what would occur were we to militarize. It's all terribly short sighted and will utterly fail. An impoverished population cannot support a strong military. The handwriting is already on the wall in this regard. Having had a couple of intense days (regarding above events) I'm going to do the only thing that obfuscates the stress. Work in my garden. ;) karen Posted by: farrout on October 5, 2005 02:16 PMShould Oregon's Death with Dignity law stand?

As for the quarantines.....remember when the Avian flu hit Canada pretty hard...and they DID quarantine to keep it from spreading, and they stopped it. and perhaps some of those methods will be used. The whole mood for myself picked up today....article in the SF Chronicle on a community in Pt. Arenas, No. Cal, which has resurrected itself by itself and for itself without outside help....because that is their philosophy. One woman who moved from Santa Cruz 20 years ago said she felt Santa Cruz had no plan, that it was out of control....so she and her husband packed up and moved up there....517 people, and they used basic critical thinking and hard work and have revived this whole community. I think this is what we will all have to do. Unless it is already out of control in the communities we do live in....probably only a few people here live in a community of 517 people! I should also mention, in terms of community, a second article on the houseboat community in Sausalito, CA (where my ex art partner has a tiny tiny little boat)....it, too, is so close to nature and you have to park your car and walk for long distances on piers past all the neighbors, and it has a strong sense of community also. My friend has said it, and the article said it....so different from radiation, this nuclear community! Strong feelings that this will be a theme soon.... Though I've begun the second book in the series, i'm taking a sneak breaks here and in the gardens (which are now abundant with spinach, kale and collard greens. YUM!!!!) karen Garry, I have posted a number of times about the Frist connection to HCA....the family dynasty. Or die nasty. Saw lots of exposes on Columbia Humana back in the 1990's on PBS....going into communities and bribing county supervisors to sell off the county hospitals (one supe got 250K to vote HCA's way). Then they took these places which were built by taxpayer monies and stripped them of assets and sold them off. Leaving communities with no care ..... will read your URL! The community voted it down much to my surprise. I loved your comments on community building, this is where i have been focusing my attention in the past few years. I have stuckout like a sore thumb in a fundamentalist / military environment, someone who was deemed odd but relatively harmless...one of the shifts i notice is how that attitude has changed, both toward me and my ideals. And I haven't pulled any feathers/quills out of a chicken for my grandmother since I was about 6 or 7 yeas old. What bothers me more is that American scientists have a "sample" of the 1918 flu that they are fooling around with. 1) Where the hell did they get it? and 2) every time our scientists fool around with some virus, they let loose things like West Nile Virus.. aids, and Wasn't there a lot of information floating around four or so years ago about "biological" weapons? December 2005 to January 2006....Get ready, our world may forever be changed. Here's the article from FT.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The virus responsible for the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic, which killed an estimated 50m people worldwide, has been reconstructed by genetic engineering in a high-security US laboratory. The Centres for Disease Control laboratory in Atlanta made a live virus with the full genetic sequence of Spanish flu, using an engineering technique called “reverse genetics” developed at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. “We felt we had to recreate the virus and run these experiments to understand the biological properties that made the 1918 virus so exceptionally deadly,” said Terrence Tumpey, head of the CDC team. “We wanted to identify the specific genes responsible for its virulence, with the hope of designing antivirals or other interventions that would work against virulent influenza viruses.” The key genetic data for the experiment came from the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington DC. Over the past eight years scientists there have pieced together the entire Spanish flu genome, from viral fragments isolated from preserved lung samples of patients who died in 1918 and from a female victim whose body was fortuitously frozen in Alaskan permafrost. -more on Ft.com why was the Armed Forces Institute working on putting back together the Spanish flu for the past 8 years? Discussions of "tipping points" have, in recent times, largely been relegated to the war in Iraq where such moments, regularly predicted by the Bush administration, never arrive. In the meantime, an actual tipping point may have been creeping up on us on another front entirely, one that is anathema to this administration -- that of climate change. The latest news from scientists laboring in cold climes has been startling. The expanse of Arctic sea ice has been shrinking in the summer since the late 1970s, though usually rebounding to near normal levels in the winter. Until recently. For the last few years, winter ice cover has been shrinking as well. This will be the fourth consecutive year of record, or near record, shrinkage of September sea ice in the Arctic. Scientists speculate that a threshold has been crossed. "Experts at the U.S. National Snow and Data Center in Colorado," writes David Adam, environmental correspondent for the British Guardian, "fear the [Arctic] region is locked into a destructive cycle with warmer air melting more ice, which in turn warms the air further. Satellite pictures show that the extent of Arctic sea ice this month dipped some 20% below the long term average for September -- melting an extra 500,000 square miles, or an area twice the size of Texas. If current trends continue, the summertime Arctic Ocean will be completely ice-free well before the end of this century." More... My low death rate at Camp Lee was due entirely to the fact that I avoided the use of Aspirin absolutely. I was complimented by the chief medical officer as having the lowest death rate in the hospital. Peace Posted by: Jaycee on October 7, 2005 03:33 AMHi Jaycee, and all i'd like to add a little note here from a Homeopath's perspective- that is; every epidemic develops it's own distinct similimum and we won't know it in advance. The symptom picture evolves as a relationship between society and the organism. I do not wish to discourage anyone from pursuing homeopathy, i'm passionate about it and have seen many amazing results (i've been using it since the mid 70s) For those of you who are interested in self care i would like to reccomend a book which i believe is very useful for understanding and using homeopathy. "Homeopathic Medicine a Doctor's Guide for Common Ailments" by Trevor Smith MD. Trevor Smith has writen several books and i consider him very sound. Then, if your interest and pocketbook indicate it look into a remedy kit -a travel kit of 30c remedies will likely serve. Then monitor homeopathic sites, we all stay in touch... Pat C Tseka, I agree with your comments. It's true about different similiums. I don't know much about homeopathy, but I've been reading that there are some similarities between the current flu and 1918 and since most people probably won't purchase kits, and without some knowledge, it is kind of complicated to use lots of remedies, I was thinking that some of these existing combination remedies may be better than nothing. And I know that homeopathy is not the ownly answer. What really got my attention was the responses of the MDs as to the effectiveness of homeopathy and the negative effects of Aspirin. I had never heard this before. I am really concerned about the levels of fear and panic that can be generated, and that could make things much worse than they need to be, especially if people feel that they have no control over what happens. We are really blessed that we can be here to help one another. I'm getting my "medicine cabinet" as ready as I can. Have you heard anything about that Master Tonic that I linked to? Posted by: Jaycee on October 7, 2005 05:27 AMJaycee, one thing to remember was homeopathy was THE medicine of the time during 1918, allopathy didn't really get going until the 40's after penicillin. 1918 was pretty dark ages for what we now think of as medicine. Aspirin was sort of the drug of the day and given the hemorrhagic aspect (bleeding) of the infection probably just exacerbated the symptoms. Jaycee and tseka, though i'm not as familiar as i would like to be about homeopathy, i do know intuitively that vinegar, garlic, onions, hot peppers are great restoratives and often curatives. The Master Tonic, Jaycee, is something we all could have on hand. It certainly cannot hurt you and would be highly beneficial -- even alleviating many cold systoms. I've forwarded this recipe on to everyone i know. Ii would also add that each of us can sprout. Organic alfalfa, mungs, wheat, are readily available and inexpensive when you consider that two tablespoons full of seeds translate to a quart jar of delicious greens. WASHINGTON, Oct 7 (Reuters) - In a cliffhanger vote held open by Republican leaders until they won, the U.S. House of Representatives passed by two votes on Friday a bill clearing the way for U.S. oil refineries to expand. The legislation, written by Republican Joe Barton of Texas, barely won approval despite dropping a White House-backed provision that would have gutted clean air rules to help refineries and coal-powered utilities. In the first major House vote since Texan Tom DeLay was forced to step down as majority leader, Republicans won, 212-210, in a roll call that ran more than 40 minutes, far beyond the allotted five minutes. Democrats in the chamber chanted "shame, shame, shame" as the final tally was announced. When over two dozen Republicans initially voted no, DeLay, Barton, House Speaker Dennis Hastert and new Majority Leader Roy Blunt circled the chamber and cajoled the holdouts. The palm-sweating vote switched from "yes" to "no" several times, but Republican Rep. Mike Simpson, the speaker pro tempore, did not gavel the vote closed until it swung in the Republicans' favor. Several Democrats protested that the vote was being held open. "I am informed that every member of Congress who is in town has voted," Democratic whip Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland said at one point, when the tally was 210 yes, 214 no. House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi also complained, saying the proceedings were bringing "dishonor to the House." "No, it's a real mystery, no one knows how he got into the White House, no one knows how he managed to stay in there so long ... oh, no, wait, that's George Bush, I got confused." --David Letterman "Interesting woman this Harriet Miers. She used to be a Democrat, and then she found God and became a Republican. Which is kind of backwards, because usually in Washingotn you become a Republican, get indicted, go to jail, then you find God." --Jay Leno "They shut down Pennsylvania Avenue because of a suspicious package, did you hear about that? Turns out it was just a big bag of laundered money for Tom DeLay." --David Letterman
Making Sense of the Miers Nomination By picking his personal lawyer Harriet Miers to fill a key swing seat on the U.S. Supreme Court, George W. Bush angered his right-wing supporters, who wanted someone with clearer conservative credentials, and opened himself to new charges of cronyism – a double whammy of bad PR. So why did he do it? The most common theory is that Bush was looking for a stealth candidate who wouldn’t provoke strong Democratic opposition but would get solid Republican backing – after some wink-wink assurances that she would vote the right way on abortion and other core conservative issues. That indeed may be the answer. Bush may have just miscalculated how disappointed his conservative base would be and how offended other Americans would be at his straight-faced assertion that his White House counsel was “the best person I could find.” But there is another theory that would fit the facts. It may be that Bush is less concerned about constitutional issues than he is about criminal and political disputes that might reach the court if the troubles surging around his administration get worse. What if, for instance, a senior Bush aide is facing prosecution in connection with an untested law prohibiting unmasking covert CIA officers? It might be handy for Bush to have a trusted friend on the court of last resort to rule on some technical legal questions that could torpedo the whole case. "Holocaust-deniers are not scholars or researchers -- they are bigots who try to hide their anti-semitism behind the mask of fake scholarship," said Wyman Institute Director Dr. Rafael Medoff. "For a U.S. government report to call them 'scholars' gives them the legitimacy they desperately crave but do not deserve."
The Wyman Institute points out that the U.S. State Department officially considers Holocaust-denial to be a form of antisemitism. In the State Department's January 2005 "Report on Global Anti-Semitism," there are nine separate references to incidents of Holocaust-denial included among the report's listing of anti-semitic incidents in various countries. Well, hey, if Intelligent Design can be "science", then Holocaust deniers can be "scholars". ...................... http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&q=george+bush+and+god&btnG=Search+News

Posted by: shylurker on October 9, 2005 05:31 AMCybear, A major California quake would be the coup de grace for the US economy, if not for the US federal government itself. The sad part is, we would have been in much better shape to absorb and rebound from these kinds of losses, even in succession, if we had maintained better leadership from 2000 onward. Bush, the GOP and their corporate backers have completely laid waste to this nation and have left us broke, broken and vulnerable in ways that we have never before experienced. Not even during the Great Depression has the US been in such a sorry state of disrepair and decay. People walk around like they're in a trance. We're the dance band on the Titanic, playing out our last songs to people who know the ship is sinking and none of us are going to make it." "If POTUS is on the road, you can breathe a little easier," says an aide. Otherwise, it is one temper tantrum after another from bush, whose "cakewalk war" has turned into interminable conflict, whose idiocy in diverting funding for NO' levees to war in Iraq was disastrous for the famous city, and whose Social Security privatization has been rejected by the electorate. Even rah-rah [necroporn] Newt Gingrich says the WH is surrounded by failure. No member of the WH staff wants to deliver news to bush, because the news is bad. bush demands sycophancy and equates bad news with disagreement and disloyalty. Little wonder that Condi Rice was dispatched to Princeton last week to inform the university that democracy comes out of the barrel of a gun. US military force, said the [rice] with a straight face, is required to force democracy down the throats of the Muslims in order to save future American generations from "insecurity and fear." Condi obviously doesn't want bush to put her in the "against us" camp. She told Princeton that she agreed with bush "that the root cause of 9/11 was the violent expression of a global extremist ideology, an ideology rooted in the oppression and despair of the modern Middle East." Every American s/b scared to death that a sec of state can make such an ignorant/propagandistic statement. Many Middle Eastern countries are ruled by puppets on the [ameriCO] payroll. Even the Saudis are under [ameriCO] protection. If there is oppression in the Middle East, it is because US puppets and protectorates are doing what the US govt wants, not what the people they rule want. The Middle East is in despair because almost a century after the WWI freed Arabs from Turkish occupation, they still cannot get free of US and British occupation. The reasons Osama bin Laden has a cause among Muslims are (1) US military bases in the Middle East and (2) Israeli practices such as stealing the West Bank and herding Palestinians into ghettos. What kind of fool believes that the way to bring democracy to a country is to invade, destroy cities and infrastructure, and kill and maim tens of thousands of civilians, while creating every possible animosity by aligning with some members of the society against the others? Condi Rice's speech at Princeton has branded her the greatest fool ever to be appointed sec of state. The same day that she declared, Mao-like, that democracy comes out of the barrel of a gun, Lt Gen Wm Odom, dir of the Natl Security Agency during prez reagan's 2nd term, a scholar with a distinguished career in military intelligence, declared bush's invasion of Iraq to be the "greatest strategic disaster in US history." ... http://antiwar.com/roberts/?articleid=7472 Dear Joe, assumptions are dangerous, not only because they cement existing divisions, but because they often compromise possible, future understandings. Many give generously, despite meager incomes or limited circumstances. We do hope that you are one of those givers. . .that you have the means to, say, adopt several children (for i assume you are prolife). And, hopefully, those children were born from wounded women (rape, or other heinous degradations). I usually do not repond to posts such as yours. Yet, there may be some seed of light within you. Aren't bleeding hearted liberals the first to give to charity? And is Joe willing to give up tax cuts for the wealthy to pay for Katrina and bring down the debt? 3. If the Republicans are seious about winning Iraq why hasn't anybody called for Rumsfeld to step down? How come W can't be like Tony Blair and admit that we went in for the wrong reasons? How can the President take so much vacation time when we're at war? Is having China pay for our national debt a good security move? http://www.securingamerica.com/ Posted by: Michael from NYC on October 9, 2005 06:40 PMKaren, I appreciate your comments. Throwing vitriole at one another seems to encourage us to vent and allow that level of discourse to continue. Is it "possible" that there's some truth in a different point of view? (There usually is if we can be objective enough to look. Not always easy when we lead with our emotions and our determination to "fight" for our truths, and when there are such levels of understandable frustration.) BUT, Why make fun of one another? Why put one another down? Why man battle stations? Why always us vs. them? Confront, attack, jab, "gotcha", "I'm right, "you're wrong" "I won, you lost." Is this what we really want? Last time I checked, we all breathe the same air, we all bleed, we all have hearts that beat, we all laugh, we all cry. Yes, even Republicans.

Houma Chief Brenda Dardar Robichaux said the Houma, the American Indian tribe hit hardest by Hurricane Katrina, has received no national or federal assistance: tribal members have received nothing from FEMA or the America Red Cross, and cannot get through to either agency. Grass roots volunteers are camped in Robichaux's yard in Raceland, La., south of New Orleans. They are living in tents and delivering medical and construction aid to tribal members, but have little in the way of cash or supplies. Further, Robichaux said some tribal members are still unaccounted for and assumed to be in shelters or relatives' homes. The tribe is searching for those Houma tribal members in shelters who speak only Cajun French and may be unable to communicate their needs. One Houma village was blown away by Hurricane Katrina and another, ''Boothville,'' is underwater. There are 3,400 Houma tribal members who lost their homes or have damage to their homes Robichaux, however, said tribal members realize they are responsible for themselves and rebuilding their lives and are not waiting for others to help them. Posted by: judi g on October 9, 2005 09:38 PMOne of the reasons we have such a divide in this country in the 'group mind' category might be reflected in something that a woman doing a spiritual reading for me yesterday said.... Did you know that science has proof that two opposing viewpoints can both be proved....each prooved to be RIGHT....and both ARE right? It is pretty interesting, as that little experiment in physics where in the act of observing a particle turns it into a wave, and vice versa....tells you it is whomever is doing the looking is proving themselves to be right....one side is seeing the particle and the other the wave in this case...classic separation....right and left. I read a study that reported that Repubs are highly concerned with Unfortunately, I didn't think to say....but did he pay his taxes all that time? Did he pay soc. sec. taxes? so he isn't a moral paragon in your eyes, but does MONEY know that? First strike the mote from your eye....Joe Hey Morgana To unsigned: My objection is not to intelligent discourse, but to the level of discourse. Is every Republican a Repug? Is every liberal a crazy flake? I don't think so. Your differences are with this current administration and those who are asleep to what's been going on. But more and more people are waking up. People are rethinking their choices. When we attack people they are less likely to want to even hear what we have to say. The natural tendency is to attack back. We can disagree and discuss issues and policies but I don't believe we have to do it at the level of the "Jerry Springer Show". There are those who would say that this administration is doing us a service, or that it's a reflection of the consciousness of the country. (Too bad we chose to learn the hard way.) Self-reflection is so much more difficult than self-denial. It's always easier to project and put the blame "out there". We've been forced to wake up and really see what it is we want and don't want, what we believe and don't believe, how important it is to be involved in what our government is doing. How many of us even cared before 911.(I suspect most of those who post here did care.) It's those outer planets doing a number on all of us for the sake of our country and the whole world. JUDI, "...in the act of observing a particle turns it into a wave, and vice versa....tells you it is whomever is doing the looking is proving themselves to be right..." I wonder why it's so difficult to grasp this concept. What will happen if we go beyond left/right? That's the duality we're in and evolving beyond. Transformation isn't always fun. QUESTION FOR ASTROLOGERS: Is it more difficult for people without oppositions in their charts to see another side, another point of view? Does anybody have any insights on this? Posted by: Jaycee on October 9, 2005 10:58 PMFor those who DON'T know the meaning of the word liberal and think it's a negative term, here are several textbook definitions for LIBERAL: Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry. Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded. Of, relating to, or characteristic of liberalism. Of, relating to, or based on the traditional arts and sciences of a college or university curriculum: a liberal education. I would wager that Voltaire and our entire pantheon of founding fathers are rolling in their graves, knowing they sacrificed their lives so that anyone behind a keyboard can spread hate speech all over the world....please note, negatives return threefold to the sender, as do positive things. Sorry to vent loyal readers, but we already know that if we want to hear the "Free Republic" rebuttal for our every comment, we can turn on the tv, the radio, or read the newspapers......
