A Bitter Harvest
Although technically summer ends with the Autumnal Equinox in late September, in reality, summer in the United States is over around Labor Day, when the pools close, the schools reopen, and families are back from whatever far-away escape they managed to conjure up during the heat and haze of July and August. Closing the door on the season of warmth and play and moving us into the structured rhythm of the working world, the advent of September brings with it a decided shift in our lives. In the coming days, George Bush will return from his extended dithering in the Crawford playpen to reluctantly encounter a worsening morass of dysfunction and failure of his own creation; Congress will return to the vicious and bloody frontline of the Culture Wars; and Iraq, having missed the memo about summer vacation, will continue as it has been, only worse. The seeds have long been planted for much of the tension we can expect this fall, a time of bitter harvest indeed. Foremost on people’s minds is Iraq, undoubtedly the biggest foreign policy debacle in US history. The arbitrary deadline for the Iraqi constitution set for August 15 has been repeatedly postponed. The Kurds and Shiites have now completed a preliminary constitution to be voted on in the October 15 referendum, but the Sunnis, already desperately opposed to the growing power of the Shiites, stand in opposition to much of its contents. As violent struggles erupt between warring factions within the Iraqi nation, both within the various religious and ethnic groups and between them, the country seems to be moving inevitably towards civil war. The big danger, as events spin more and more out of control, is the possibility of Iraq’s neighbors actively entering the fray in order to determine a more promising outcome for their own strategic goals. Iran is already helping the Shiites in various covert ways. There are rumors of Syria helping the Sunni insurgents. Saudi Arabia is ruled by Sunnis who do not want an increase in Shiite power in the region or any agitation among the Shiites on their own turf. And Turkey feels threatened by the possibility of an independent Kurdistan fostering rebellion among its rather large Kurdish population. In short, a full blown civil war in Iraq could very easily morph into a regional conflagration, as many of the unheeded dissenters suggested prior to the initial invasion The most significant planetary aspect in the Gulf War chart at present is the ongoing transit of Pluto opposite Gulf War Saturn, stretching from December 2004 through most of November 2005, and soon to be in its most deadly phase when Pluto turns direct on September 2. The natal Pluto/Saturn opposition in that chart which straddles the meridian axis describes the bitter and explosive power struggles and intensity that have only grown worse since the beginning of the war. Not only does the transit of Pluto this fall bring that natal aspect into its fullest manifestation by moving Pluto for the final time to the exact opposition with natal Saturn, but it will be powerfully triggered by a very slow moving Mars in quincunx aspect to transiting Pluto from September 12 through October 14, suggesting even greater violence and anger than are already present. Another indication of the dangerous instability during this same period is the Gulf War progressed Moon which will oppose natal Uranus from September 20 through October 16. Moreover, it is clear that things will not be going according to George Bush’s wishes in October, when transiting Saturn will be making its first crossing of his natal Mercury from September 30 through October 14. Clearly all of these indications are related to the Iraqi constitutional referendum on October 15 and the wild spate of violence and internecine struggle that will precede it, as well as the administration’s profound concerns about the outcome. Although events may prove slightly calmer after the referendum on the constitution, by mid-November, the extended Mars/Saturn square will bring a great deal of stress, tension, and possibly violence to the world, including Iraq, especially from November 14 through November 18, and from December 23 through December 31, 2005. And rather amazingly, just as the Mars station at 23 Taurus triggered all things Plutonian from mid- September through mid-October due to its quincunx (150 degree) aspect to transiting Pluto, the Mars station at 8 Taurus will also trigger all things Plutonian from November 25 through December 25, due to a prolonged sesquiquadrate (135 degree) aspect between these two bodies. Thus, the rather ruthless and brutal combination of Mars and Pluto seems to set the tone for most of the autumn period as a background for all else that transpires, joined by the very difficult and painful Mars/Saturn combination in November and December. As indicated by this very destabilizing and problematic combination of planets from mid-September through December 2005, things will be going quite poorly for the administration. Beginning roughly with the October 15 referendum, both Bush and Cheney will be beleaguered and restricted by the extended Saturn station that goes through mid-December on Bush’s Pluto and opposite Cheney’s Sun. While Saturn sits on Bush’s Pluto, and remains not very far from his Mercury and Ascendant, he will find that he is not able to manipulate and control things (Pluto) in the way to which he is accustomed. Instead, he will feel bogged down, depressed, overwhelmed, and forced to face realities which until recently he was able to avoid. The Saturn transit of Bush’s Ascendant, Mercury, and Pluto covers generally from early September 2005 through early February 2006 and will return in May and June 2006. The entire nine months will be a very difficult time for him during which he will feel frustrated and greatly burdened by insurmountable difficulties. In addition, during the Saturn station from mid-October through mid-December, Cheney will find his goals thwarted and bogged down by obstacles, delays, and difficulties. Whether these configurations indicate a failure of the Iraqi constitutional referendum or simply a continuing downward spiral in the situation is not clear. But I see nothing to indicate any celebration within the administration during the critical period. Perhaps mirroring the growing failure of our Iraq policy or perhaps manifesting any one of a number of battles from our ongoing Culture Wars or perhaps simply indulging in more of the mud-slinging character assassinations that Republicans so excel in, the 109th US Congress (1/4/05, noon, DC) can look forward to one of its most difficult seasons beginning in early September 2005. As happened last spring, Pluto will again cross natal Mercury and then natal Venus, sparking all the intense partisan self-righteousness and certitude that underlies much of the hostility. But this time, the aggressive and irritating transiting Mars station will be quincunx the natal Pluto/Mercury conjunction in the Congress chart, as well as transiting Pluto, from mid-September through mid-October 2005, and sesquiquadrate the Congress Venus and transiting Pluto from November 23 through December 2, 2005. Moreover, the natal Mars/Uranus square of the Congress chart will be intensified by the transit of Uranus to the exact square with Mars from September 24 through November 29, 2005, with special emphasis on the station throughout November. Thus, as brutal and vicious as the Gulf War will be this fall, so also will be the incredibly hostile war of words in the halls of Congress. This seems to go far beyond the John Roberts confirmation hearings, which from his chart only look difficult when Saturn crosses his Sun from September 1 through September 9. As I have already said, this Congressional battle will be the front line for our own Cultural Civil War, probably including the rising anti-war movement along with all the other well-trod points of contention. But at least for Congress, much of the belligerence will subside by Christmas. In summary, the dramatic interplay between a slow-moving Mars and Pluto from October through December, as well as between a slow-moving Mars and Saturn in November and December, are likely to make this a harrowing and dramatic autumn and early winter. The Pluto aspects that bring power struggle and partisan intensity will play out in the Gulf War chart and the Congress chart, and the Saturn aspects that bring frustration and difficulty will play out in the Bush and Cheney charts. Highly destructive battles and turf warfare will unfold in both Baghdad and Washington, neither boding well for the Bush agenda. Having sown the seeds of divisiveness at home and recklessly created a power vacuum in Iraq, Bush will find that it will indeed be a season of bitter harvest.

Good article, Nancy! Always a cut above the rest!!! Posted by: Neerav Trivedi on August 31, 2005 04:44 AMBrilliant and sobering, Nancy. How I sorrow to see our country laid low by these arrogant inhumane neo-cons. Posted by: Barbara on August 31, 2005 05:32 AMHi Everybody! Thanks for all the love...I received it and it makes me feel even more emotional. This is a really emotional time on earth, isn't it? I am very luck and blessed, as usually, not only with loving friends but because I married into a family with resources 3 years ago and we seem so bonded and protected. We were offered someone's vacation home up here in Northern, LA. It's beautiful, modern, built of pine, and on a lovely lake. We bought groceries and fish today in a town called Farmerville. The fish store owner was ready to close the store and go and catch more fish. He is a religious Christian who only eats kosher food as is instructed in the Bible so we found that common ground with him. Been reading for an hour, catching up on the last thread. I skimmed Nancy's article here and it looks as good as usual but I won't read it in depth until tomorrow. Thanks again for ALL the concern, Jo, Sally, Cybear, Beasley, the Pats, and everyone else. Still praying for you and Eric, Pat C. It was wonderful of you to post the Red Cross donation instructions, Jo, and also to whomever posted the thing about a Live Aid concert to help the hurricane survivors. Things were looking better for a while until the levee was breached and 12 more feet or so of water is expected tonight. The mayor was really angry because, apparently, the sand bags weren't dropped into the breach and he said he thought everyone involved realized that was the highest priority. Those people left in the city really need help. It's not liveable right now. I feel so bad for their situation as well as those effected in MS, AL & FL. Myself and my family may go back to damage and flooding but we'll be ok because have insurance and other financial resources. I remember living in South FL during Andrew and, as bad as it was, 2 years later, things were pretty much back to normal. This will happen in New Orleans with some patience and effort (lots, really). But, as someone said, it is a wake up call. I think we will begin thinking more about relocating eventually. In fact, we are going to CO next week and that may be where we end up. Maybe not right away but, with the coastal erosion and the seas slowly rising, it's not the best place to be ultimately. And to hear that the emergency funding was just cut, as you posted Sally, is really, really sucks, because this is a small but important state. As Myron, my husband said, when the nation gets hit in the pocketbook due to the rising gasoline and oil prices, the government may rethink doing something about the erosion here. Thanks again, everyone. I may not be posting a whole lot in the next weeks, but I'll be reading as much as possible. I love you all. Sharon (I'm not proof reading this so sorry for any errors in advance). Posted by: on August 31, 2005 06:25 AMBeasley, Meant that I'm praying for you, Pat QP and Eric. As far as Pat C, I'm praying that your computer gets fixed quickly (and inexpensively). Posted by: on August 31, 2005 06:31 AMOh Sharon, I'm so glad you wrote with an update. Have been thinking about you SOOO much. It's very good to hear that you are okay, Sharon. Please be careful and take care of yourself and your loved ones wherever you will be. Posted by: NEOBuckeye on August 31, 2005 08:06 AMSharon, so good to hear from you. And the place where you ended up sounds so nice...are you sure you couldn't live there indefinitely? Given what I hear about New Orleans, you will have a wait. I was the one who posted the idea about a Live Aid Concert. What has been frustrating is that there is very little media attention to the drowning of hundreds. Probably the memo went out to protect Baby Nero at all costs from his mistakes. But I wonder if we could get some celebrities to elevate consciousness. I also got to thinking about what we in the blogosphere did for Dean. If we put in a similar effort, that would be $59 million for hurricane relief. Can we do it? Will we? We are WE THE PEOPLE..... Posted by: Carol on August 31, 2005 09:57 AMJust one bottom line question: After New Orleans; surely caused in part by global warming and Bushco's rejection of science (such a "quaint" idea, kinda almost like the Geneva Convention I guess)and today's news about 650+ dying in Iraq in this horrible stampede during the Shia religious ceremony (death toll sure to grow) due to rumors of a suicide bombing, HOW MUCH LONGER BEFORE BUSHCO IS STOPPED, IF EVER, BEFORE IT TRULY BEGINS IN EARNEST TO TOTALLY DESTROY CIVILIZATION, AND INDEED LIFE ON THIS PLANET AS WE HAVE KNOWN IT???!!! Sharon, thought of you throughout this whole horror that was Katrina and was so relieved to read your post! Here, in Tennessee, we were smacked up side the head with 60mph winds, down trees but nothing like the devastation of Biloxi or NO, or Gulf Port. Also, for those who read www.rense.com. From Democracy Now: Report from Inside New Orleans Hospital: "Who is Left Behind?...The Sickest, The Oldest, The Poorest, The Youngest" "The people who are still in New Orleans are - in all honesty - dying and there could be a lot more casualties unless there's a lot of help, real fast." Over the past two years the Times-Picayune paper has run at least nine articles that cite the cost of the Iraq invasion as a reason for the lack of hurricane and flood control funding. Earlier this year President Bush proposed significantly reducing the amount of federal money for the project. He proposed spending $10 million. Local officials said six times as much money was needed. They were originally counted the need for 250 million. We just heard that the husband of a lifelong family friend had to remain because he was too sick. Myron isn't in touch often with this guy but he just received something from him in the mail - a Bill Moyers article. We did find out my mom-in-law, Freda's house is completely submerged...so there goes her poor kitty. I feel really bad and we don't want to tell her. Now I hear (from a posting here) that if the levee's are not fixed, the entire city will be under water?! It's hard to believe as until now, it's mostly been the area called New Orleans East and all of us live in the western or uptown area near Tulane. Our area in particular was dry until the levee failed yesterday. Myron says that even if we can go back in a week or two, there will be too much lawlessness and it will be dangerous. We'll just have to wait and see. I have been reminded that life can change in the blink of an eye. I am so sorry about the Iraquis that were killed in the religious event stampede. Posted by: Teresa on August 31, 2005 07:15 PMSomething from an International Perspective on Katrina ... Katrina Prompts Global Support for Victims By DANICA KIRKA, Associated Press Writer VIENNA, Austria - From papal prayers to telegrams from China, the world reacted with an outpouring of compassion Wednesday for the victims of Hurricane Katrina in messages tinged by shock that a disaster of this scale could occur in the United States. Islamic extremists rejoiced in America's misfortune, giving the storm a military rank and declaring in Internet chatter that "Private" Katrina had joined the global jihad, or holy war. With "God's help," they declared, oil prices would hit $100 a barrel this year. Venezuela's government, which has had tense relations with Washington, offered humanitarian aid and fuel if requested. The storm was seen as an equalizer — proof that any country, weak or strong, can be victimized by a natural disaster. Images of flood-ravaged New Orleans earned particular sympathy in central Europe, where dozens died in raging floodwaters only days ago. "Nature proved that no matter how rich and economically developed you are, you can't fight it," says Danut Afasei, a local official in Romania's Harghita county, where flooding killed 13 people last week. snip http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050831/ap_on_re_eu/hurricane_katrina_world_hk4 Posted by: Morgana on August 31, 2005 07:20 PMYou know it is inexcusable that FEMA did not do a better job in preparations for this event.

There were so many positive aspects from this hurricane in Mr. Bush and Inaugural charts, (as there were in the 9/11 chart) there were also "crossroad" aspects. This hurricane, if the administration can step up to the bar, will either pull their bacon out of the fire or it will be another instance of "fuzzy" thinking. Remember "they will greet us with flowers and candy?" There is a dramatic point of destiny or crossroads in Mr. Bush's pre-natal return chart this year and it will be during the fall months. Some of you have indicated your interest in Asteroids, Bush's Asc. and Mercury are conjunct by Niobe and Isis. Niobe has to do with excessive pride in one's children (have his children not been attacked for not being in the service for this "noble cause?") Isis has to do with "holding things together," and a fear of seeming scattered or being out of control. With transiting Saturn coming to those points, it's doubtful he will be able to go with the flow, and be very confused with "staying the course" as the entire country will be against that. He is trying to pull fragmented conditions under his control with potentially disasterous consequences. Hi you all....such a sad time. Sally, condolences, Sharon, glad you got away (My uncle in Marshall, TX, said all the motels have been filled there...it is 40 miles from Shreveport) I have not been able to concentrate or be in the mix ....it is too devastating on some level which I seem to access all too easily. As for the asteroids....although I agree with Beasley's fun interpretations for Bush and the asteroids, unfortunately, they also hold true exactly for me, too: Now does the universe tell the truth or not? My Jupiter is 25 Cancer in the 9th, my Sun/Saturn is 16 Gemini in the 8th, My Mars is 8 Aries in the 6th, trining the 8 Sag (which is my daughter's Mars in her 4th...buy hey, I could buy into her being Machiavellian in the home, except she's not quite that level!), and 0 Taurus is my descendant....the only thing not in my chart is anything at 7 Libra, which is my 12th. I like Beer, but not THAT much! I kinda like Lucifer on my Jupiter!!!! Maybe this is why I get so nauceous when I have to look at the creepster....I could make a great case for that! But I'm no bushster. Sally....on the blogging issue....I would imagine that if real trade secrets are revealed in a blog not owned by the poster, the poster would be liable....doubt that the owner of the site would be because that would mean they would have to KNOW what the trade secret was to identify it, wouldn't they? Sounds like this is just the beginning of the usual BS....like going after some business because its name happens to be MacDonald's Toy Attic as a copyright infringement against MacDonalds....yuck. On the other hand, this has to be watched also: Earlier this year, Apple Computer Inc. sued a Harvard student in a California court, accusing him of publishing trade secrets on his blog, ThinkSecret.com, in violation of state law. That case is pending in Superior Court in Santa Clara, Calif. It's interesting to me that while this government was trying to steal Iraq's oil, the cosmos came in from behind right to the oil refineries in our own backyard. The Neptune in Aquarius and Uranus in Pisces mutual reception just got triggered by this unusual Mars. Air(wind) and water. Neptune also rules oil, so I think we have a message here. Bush is nobody. Just another human. A symbol. He doesn't have the power. By the time a country gets a leader like this, it is merely a surfacing of longstanding problems in the whole society. He didn't get us into this quagmire and he won't magically get us out. A slowdown in consumption by the people would help since we have become sort of cannabalistic in our appetites... thinking we could devour cultures in the Middle East in our lust for energy, to compensate for some dearth of inner power. Hopefully some inner sense of balance will help us out of this. This should help point out the failure of the war to the people. It is now more than apparent that our domestic problems are becoming paramount. It would be advisable to get out of other people's yards and back to our own as Pluto enters capricorn and opposes our Cancer stellium. Foreign trip over. World Trade Center gone. New game. The most important thing is to try and understand how we got here and get to work finding the solution. Removing Bush can only happen if we turn inward to the source of the wound and are willing to face our own truths. Then we wouldn't even have to remove him as we would understand completely his powerlessness. But we could, if we so choose. And although it is not the answer, we do have elections coming right up and there is an opportunity to make some conscious choices. Posted by: jm on August 31, 2005 09:37 PMPosting before reading. The Rez was just on tee vee for about two minutes, talking about what "he's" doing in response to the hurricane disaster...for the victims and "dedicated citizens...er, dislocated citizens." In addition to providing supplies, shipping in available Nat'l Guard (11,000...there were 22,000 there for Hurricane Andrew, but I digress), releasing some of the crude oil reserves...in addition to that, "the Environmental (Un)Protection Agency is giving a nationwide waiver" of regulations regarding fuel blends. What that means, folks, is MTBE (MBTE?) in your groundwater, with no legal recourse, courtesy of our "wait, wait, before we address the disaster, let's figure out how we can work things to our benefit" "government." I put a little e-mail together to share with my friends. Posted by: Lori on August 31, 2005 11:22 PM"On his way to Washington, Bush had Air Force One fly low over the hurricane-ravaged area. His plane flew over New Orleans at about 2,500, and it descended even further, to about 1,700 feet, over Mississippi. Bush surveyed the damage from a couch near the left front of the plane." My husband points out that Air Force One is a jet, not a little plane like a crop-duster or drug-runner. Which means that to fly at 1700 feet, that plane would have to go FAAAAAAAAAST or it would crash. D'ya think he saw much? Fluff. Spin piece. I don't argue with the stated flight plan, but question the actual effect. For those who lived and WORKED in N.O., what will happen to them? No home, no income, it's a matter of time before they start running out of money and then what? This is a dreadful scenario. I have often wondered why, but it's becoming clearer and I am beginning to feel empowered. It's time to shine our inner light as bright as we can! WE CAN CHANGE THE COURSE OUR WORLD IS HEADING IN BY BEING EXAMPLES TO OTHERS. Now for the serious stuff....I have signed up as a volunteer to help the victims/refugees that will be coming to Houston. My Reiki group, which works with the hospital system is also on board to do Reiki sessions in the hospitals and the Astrodome for all of those in need. We are also gathering food, clothing, and supplies that will be needed. Also, my partner and I are about to donate about $50 in pet food to the animal shelters and SPCA for all of the animals that are being sent here. Since I will not be starting my new job (YEA!!!) until Oct. 3rd, I have plenty of time to help others. Haley Barbour when Harry was trying to get pertinent information about when the folks on the MS gulf coast might get some water and food. The distribution centers are inland, and the people on the coast don’t have cars to get there: they were ruined in the hurricane. But all Barbour can talk about is how many people are working to get electricity back, what they’re doing with regard to gasoline & fuel. He’s got nothing to say about the basic needs of water and food, without which the people will die. Harry sounded just disgusted and frustrated to me. I don’t remember the details, but I do recall that Haley Barbour is another psuedo-human Bushkevik, and that showed clearly on tv this morning. WHO GIVES A RAT’S ASS ABOUT ELECTRICITY WHEN YOU DON’T EVEN HAVE WATER TO DRINK NOR FOOD TO EAT? One can live without electricity; but not without nourishment and hydration. I feel like they’re just leaving people to die all along the hurricane area. Like Karen said, WHY AREN’T THEY AIR DROPPING SUPPLIES TO PEOPLE THEY CAN’T REACH, WHO ALSO CAN’T GET TO DIST. CENTERS?! As someone else said, why didn’t they take the people out of NO in the first place rather than stick them in the Superdome? My husband and I wondered that before the storm hit: “Have they no busses?” It’s not rocket science to figure that the superdome is in the city, so it could very well flood (or just suffer the lack of plumbing and power, etc. that it’s suffering now.) I guess this is my rant for the day. Forgive the length, will you please? Meanwhile, my (repug, “Christian”) mother-in-law, in e-mail response to a comment about the hurricane & effected people that a man who “lost everything” called in to Rush Limbaugh and said they’re taking their credit cards and the three kids and going to Disneyworld. Plus, they already had NOTHING before this storm arrived! I don't completely understand your FEMA trial run comment; will you explain? Thanks. I do understand about the nuke attack to lead to Iran invasion part. My understanding is that the real reason FEMA was created was planning for future rebellious activity on the part of the populace -- clamp down and control. The "emergency management to help the people" thing was just a cover. Now that FEMA's been sucked up by "Homeland Security," the keepers of the Patriot Act Laws, it's all coming together. I believe FEMA was created around the time of the "Drug War." Which as far as I know is when all these nefarious plans really began to be created and put into place. I don't think they care about the people, I don't think they care about anything that's going on right now except in terms of how they can promote their own agendas: continue greedily taking all they can from the common people for their own pockets in whatever way(s) they can. ha, in other words, looting. We Interesting that his speech has this "NATURAL" Quite some time ago i read a series of pieces on FEMA, an extension of a secret government. Now that this agency has been sucked into Homeland Security, however, i really need to lay the blame there. So, Lori, i mis-spoke. Divisions of Homeland Security/aka FEMA may be preparing all of us -- or inuring the populace -- to more coming horror. Psychologically, people reach a saturation point. A death of psyche occurs when so much horror overwhelms the senses and sensibilities. That is why i made the statement above. Bit by bit, we have been exposed to so much horror, that what comes next will need another outlet. The populace jumps on the bandwagon believing we have been dealt another injustice by so-called "terrists." I firmly believe that only "we the people" can turn this worm. I know the media has focused on some who are using this tragedy to 'loot' but again, the vast majority are just poor black folks caught in the crosshairs of nature and a negligent govt. response. I have never lived in New Orleans, I was raised in a poor black neighboorhood in Tennessee. Despite our portrayal in the media, most of us were working people making just enough to scrape by. We were minding our business and our children, trying to dodge those few in our community whose circumstances led them to drugs and despair all the while dealing with a larger community who saw us primarily as a source of cheap labor and dysfunction. Believe me when I say that your service is appreicated, just remember we are your fellow americans and human beings, not 'these people'. I respect you as a gay american helping out your countrymen. "No One Can Say they Didn't See it Coming" By Sidney Blumenthal 09/01/05 "Der Spiegel" -- -- In 2001, FEMA warned that a hurricane striking New Orleans was one of the three most likely disasters in the U.S. But the Bush administration cut New Orleans flood control funding by 44 percent to pay for the Iraq war. Biblical in its uncontrolled rage and scope, Hurricane Katrina has left millions of Americans to scavenge for food and shelter and hundreds to thousands reportedly dead. With its main levee broken, the evacuated city of New Orleans has become part of the Gulf of Mexico. But the damage wrought by the hurricane may not entirely be the result of an act of nature. Posted by: wv on September 2, 2005 12:03 AMWelcome aboard, Concerned American. WV, thank you for the hard hitting articles you always seem to find! You know, if I resided in New Orleans and I was dirt poor with virtually nothing to my name, and I couldn't get out before the storm, and my skin was all white and freckly and my hair reddish like it is, and I'd been sitting in shit (literally) and toxic stew and stinky sweaty smell for days and had no water to drink and no food to eat and no where to go to the bathroom (I know how to shit in the woods, but being in the city is different), would I go looting for who knows what all? Well, I'd be one grabbing everything I could get my hands on to hydrate and eat, and maybe I'd want to find some clean clothes, but the short answer is HELL YEAH, DAMN STRAIGHT I would. And while stories I read of some of these poor people commandeering buses or perpetrating car jacks are sad when considering those negatively effected by these actions, the determination to live, to survive, to just get basic needs met and get the hell out -- especially when your life and your loved ones are the only things you got in this world -- that determination is awesome and admirable in my book. And I happen to find beauty and awe and purpose in death, no matter when/where/how it comes. There are many angles to this situation. The neglect of helpless, starving, violated, victimized people is a crime and an outrage. GWB has inherited the wind!!! Cafferty: That would be until now. Slate.com's Jack Schafer wrote today in his column that television coverage has shied away from talking about race and class. Schafer says that we in the media are ignoring the fact that almost all of the victims in New Orleans are black and poor. And he's right. Almost every person we've seen, from the families stranded on their rooftops waiting to be rescued, to the looters, to the people holed up in the Superdome, are black and poor. *Many of them didn't follow the evacuation orders because they didn't have the means to get out of town. They just couldn't do it.* A lot of them are sick, a lot of them don't have cars, a lot of them just didn't have the means to leave "The Big Easy." And they're still there. So here's the question: What role have race and class played in the Gulf Coast crisis? You tell us. CaffertyFile -- one word -- CNN.com. Wolf, we got something like 7500 letters in the first hour of the program today. I thought we got a lot yesterday -- we got about 6000 letters over the course of the three hours yesterday. Seventy-five hundred e-mails poured in in the first hour. One of them suggested I could be tied up in IRS audits for years after the things I said about the federal government in the first hour. On-planet weather controllers, who intended even more death and destruction than is being discovered, saw and seized the opportunity to cause that. By reducing the wind velocity, ET technology thwarted those intentions to the greatest extent possible, but their efforts to deflect the path of the storm were seriously hampered by the controllers’ determined steering of the hurricane into their desired location. Katrina became a battlefield of technologies, and even though the ET’s is more advanced than that developed on-planet, it could not disperse the powerful momentum of that energy so as to prevent the sea inundating low-lying areas. Thursday 01 September 2005 Austin, Texas - Like many of you who love New Orleans, I find myself taking short mental walks there today, turning a familiar corner, glimpsing a favorite scene, square or vista. And worrying about the beloved friends and the city, and how they are now. To use a fine Southern word, it's tacky to start playing the blame game before the dead are even counted. It is not too soon, however, to make a point that needs to be hammered home again and again, and that is that government policies have real consequences in people's lives. http://www.truthout.org/docs_2005/090105Q.shtml Posted by: wv on September 2, 2005 02:13 AMTee-hee PatQ! Just a FYI - for those not aware of NOLA's demographics, it is 60% black so you are always going to see a lot of Black Americans in any photos of the city. As for Dennis Hasert's comments, I don't think they are going to win him any popularity contests. NOLA will be rebuilt and better than before but I won't be surprised if a lot of people relocate. Others will move here though. It happens in South FL. No matter the risk, people want to live there. My greatest wish is that the story gets out about the funding cuts that would have allowed the levees to be repaired and strengthened (it was mentioned in passing on CNN today by someone named Shep), as well as the fact that the 3000 lb sandbags were supposed to be dropped by the Black Hawks BEFORE the levee became waterlogged and broke. My second wish is that all of the funds being raised do not get mismanaged. Posted by: Sharon on September 2, 2005 03:18 AMHowever, there is definitely a very thriving middle class of Black Americans in NOLA. Also, since there's good transportation here (street car lines and buses), and the fact that its not all that large of a city, means that many people elect to not have cars. Desperate people do desperate things. Sad but I think not at all unreal, myself. More to be expected. What's amazing is all the people "keeping it together." It's true no one has mentioned (on my rabbit ears tv) the race/class issue (again, yes they knew it was coming: could they NOT have gotten the buses for evacuations BEFORE it hit?) Still, I tell you, CBS is doing a fine job: "Everyone is wondering where the supplies for the victims are!" the correspondents say, one after another. Oh, if only I had the means, I'd get someone to take me up in a helicopter and drop some water myself! And maybe food too; but you can go longer, better, without food than without water. It makes you wonder...they are doing rescues with helicopters, but why did they not bring in some supplies. Those copters can haul a lot. I really believe they, meaning the Fiend and his minions, are letting go of the city and then will say there is no money to rebuild. The whole thing is becoming very overwhelming.

I actually have been struggling with "survivor's guilt" the past few days. Today, my sister-in-law got me to go to a small local gym who said they'd charge us $25 for the week since we are hurricane evacuees. The place we're staying in was due to the generosity of a family friend. I think things turned around a bit today in the The Big Easy. The military was sent in with every form of transportation available and are now more effective at rescuing and distributing supplies. Also, troops will be arriving daily to secure the city against looting. This is one time that some form of martial law IS necessary. But Bush will not get away with his b.s. for much longer. And the more I think about it, the more I think that Clinton is involved, too. It may be a bit difficult living out of a suit case but we really are blessed. I have no right to complain really. I'm hoping we can take a quick trip back to NOLA as the mayor will be letting people in for short periods of time (45 minutes I've heard) to pick up our important papers and a few more things (like warmer clothes as we'll be going to CO soon). Well, like a posted to the earlier article, Bush will suffer by not seeming sympathetic to the victims. Well, I quess I was right on that one... BECAUSE HE"S NOT SYMPATHETIC. When he had that last speach, I had this feeling that New Orleans was a hinderance to him and something he really doesn't care about. Why should he care. I mean, this is just a bunch of democratic African-Americans and poor whites that didn't vote for him anyway. Bush just serves Americans when it is politically advantageous. And he claims himself to be a great Christian on top of that!!!! This is sick and I am angry at the inaction of my government as innocent people (including babies dying of dehydration) die because of federal inaction on the part of the feds. I don't even think that Bush has set up a Katrina Crisis room. After 911, Bush was on the ball because he saw political gain. This crisis on the other hand means nothing to him. Posted by: Travieso on September 2, 2005 04:54 AMGarry - Just checked that out. I really don't think this has anything to do with weather manipulation and I am a little leary of a lot of the 'channeled' information that is out there. This was an act of nature. My visions play out like a short film with all types of images that are usually very symbolic. I don't get dates or times, just scene's. If it is something from the past I see the era or time period, the future ones are more complicated. It's hard to determine what is real sometimes. But, most of the time when it is right on, the images are intense. I had posted on the other thread about a huge wave I saw a month or so ago that was heading somewhere, but I did not know where or what I could do. The one I had of the Fiend that I posted on the last thread still gives me the creeps. And sometimes things come to me as a very clear thought, like the universe opens up and there the truth is. But, playing with the weather did not cause this.
Also, what I was 'seeing' in the previous thread about the Fiend is the destruction he is bringing upon us and the world. I think he has fulfilled his time here and will soon be gone. He has accomplished his mission. Like I said up thread, I see a dark swirling cloud around him and he is no longer safe. I also think Cheney has been hidden due to health reasons and will pop up soon to spin the web of deceit once more. Posted by: Grizzly on September 2, 2005 07:49 AMI don't know what to make of any of this just yet. My head is still spinning at the implications of this disaster, and how everything continues to unravel. I don't think it's ever been more glaring to anyone on this planet just how criminally incompetent and totally heartless the Bush gang is. What kind of world leader refuses aid from other countries in the wake of a NATURAL DISASTER? These people absolutely do not give a damn about anyone! Certainly not the poor, downtrodden, suffering and now dying of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. But also not even their fellow Republicans in Congress, who ought to be severely routed by We The People in 2006. Bush has totally failed even them. Only the oil (Saudi/Exxon) and weapons companies (Carlyle) seem to be profiting from this catastrophe. Wake up, America. The NeoConservative dream is nothing less than an endless, dreadful nightmare. Does New Orleans have a birth chart? Posted by: Teresa on September 2, 2005 02:47 PMOops...sorry. Claudia has chart info on New Orleans. So why were New Orleans and the nation so unprepared? After 9/11, hard questions were deferred in the name of national unity, then buried under a thick coat of whitewash. This time, we need accountability. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/02/opinion/02krugman.html?pagewanted=print Posted by: wv on September 2, 2005 02:53 PMJust did a card reading on what will be the outcome of this disaster and it's effect on the heartless soul of the fiend. Pulled the TOWER card. Indicates an unexpected shock or disaster change life completely. Actions in the past will have consequences that were never imagined. The tower they have carefully created will be destroyed. Plans and ambitions will be shattered. Built with poor materials of misguided ambition, false values, and pride. He's sniffing around Canada's oil companies, particulary the companies which can extract oil from sand...Canada has oil, but also an effective way to extract oil from difficult terrain and market it. These companies are on everybody's "Buy" list in various and sundry financial stock reports. - - - - - - - - - - - - Sept. 2, 2005 | For the third time since George W. Bush became president, Americans are paying a catastrophic price for bad government. As the costs are tallied once more in death and dollars, we are being told that the wise and patriotic thing to do is shut up -- as if good citizens are obliged to remain silent about unwise and incompetent leadership. Honest political debate over how and why we lost the great city of New Orleans, according to the latest dictates from the right, means "an excess of recrimination," "finger-pointing" and "villain hunting." Such a "vulgar" exercise risks overshadowing our normal national unity and generosity in confronting disaster with "divisiveness" and "partisanship." We are piously advised instead to do good and find common ground, to "be humble, compassionate and helpful." Thus speak the sages of the New York Post and the Wall Street Journal. http://www.salon.com/opinion/conason/2005/09/02/criticizing_bush/print.html Posted by: wv on September 2, 2005 04:08 PM
The horror in New Orleans has exposed the nation's dirty secrets of race and poverty. Americans are ready to help. Will our leaders show the way? Left: Milvertha Hendricks, 84, waits in the rain with other flood victims outside the convention center in New Orleans Thursday. - - - - - - - - - - - - Sept. 1, 2005 | The nightmare in New Orleans has a lot to tell us about poverty: the desperate poverty of the city's African-American population, of course, but also the poverty of political debate in the U.S. today. The crisis unfolding before us -- dispossession, looting, people shooting at rescue workers, the president's dim response, and now, people dying in front of our eyes outside the Superdome -– rubs our noses in so much that's wrong in our country, it's excruciating to watch. But I'm especially struck by the inability of our existing political discourse to describe, let alone to solve, the intractable social problems that have come together in this flood whose proportions and portents seem almost biblical. http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2005/09/01/katrina_race/print.html Posted by: wv on September 2, 2005 04:36 PMfrom cnn.com go vote Has President Bush done enough to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina? Much of this is embodied in the odd phrasing that even the most circumspect mainstream media sources have been using to describe the hardest-hit victims of the storm and its devastating aftermath: "those who chose to stay behind." Instantly, the situation has been framed with language to flatter the prejudices of the comfortable and deny the reality of the most vulnerable. http://counterpunch.org/floyd09012005.html The Fiend is squirming on CNN.
