I was getting my vegetarian vegetable soup with alphabet noodles and tea ready for lunch today when I accidently spilled some soup on the floor and as I turned around to get something to clean it up I stepped on a "W" and mashed it flat. There is so much I'd love to say in response to so many points made by you, I fear I'd take up all the bandwidth! On the other hand, the depth and breadth and insight and wisdom leave me speechless. I can only say WOW, I'm awestruck!

It's true, and it seems so important to not project our heroic selves onto others, but rather to manifest our own power in the world. I've been a little leery that people might foist the label of "heroine" on Cindy Sheehan's shoulders, and have been heartened that she has not in the least accepted such a mantle. The sense I've had of her is that she's simply doing what she must -- just another human being -- and others have joined her, thereby doing what THEY must, recognizing that while self-protection in the face of a truly dire threat is important, this ridiculous bludgeoning of Iraq does not pass that smell test.

When I heard CS was leaving Crawford to see her mother, I thought perhaps her purpose was complete. No one's been able to figure out how to even begin a visible protest/demonstration against this war; Cindy played an integral part in showing us how and where to begin, which warrants our respect and honor.

I don't imagine it's very Christian of me (in the true sense of the word, not the common meaning), but Betsy, I sure did love the story about the mashed flat W noodle!! It made me laugh!

Off topic, MADD served a good purpose in its inception. I don't know how the rest of you feel, but for many years now I feel they've overstepped the boundary from "raising awareness and taking necessary practical steps" to "aiding and abetting a fascist state." (IMO, IMO) This is the reason I so delighted in seeing the following bumper sticker on a car outside a mountain tavern a couple years ago (in addition to just finding it clever and funny):

The point I would make here is simply that she was open to the spirit within, decided to follow its prompting, and did not hesitate to claim the help she needed.

Cindy used her conference speech to speak out clearly, as she has been doing for these past several months, and then she acted.

I so love the way you write! So much to reflect on. Thank you for such a comprehensive answer to my question about the feminine asteroids.

These lines you wrote really resonated with me:

I fully support Cindy and what she is doing. I have been attempting to get down to Crawford for two weeks I even had my car packed one night and had to abort the trip. However, I and my wife are leaving tomorrow Aug 21 to drive there and will arrive Aug 22. I am concerned as most thinking people are that critics imply support of Cindy demoralizes the troops in Iraq. I know that that is not true.

The only reason I mentioned my background is so that you can see my thoughts come from many years of varied experiences throughout the military and life. I was in Vietnam the year 1969. Demonstrations were massive and frequent all over the US. While in Vietnam I nor anyone with whom I served ever uttered one concern about our safety relative to those protests.My personal hope was that the demonstrations at home would help end the war quickly so that we could leave the terrible mess we were in earlier than our scheduled end of tour date.

I also never heard anyone talk about how patriotic we were because we were there supposedly saving the nation from communism. To keep our sanity, we all may have tried to console ourselves by thinking we were doing something worthwhile. However, my compatriots knew that the war was a complete boondoggle and had nothing to do with protecting the US. We kept our morale up by devoting ourselves to a mission of protecting each other. We were all patriots and were devoted to protecting the US, but this debacle had nothing to do with the US security. Based on comments I hear from Iraqi veterans that feeling thrives in Iraq.

If the government is worried about troop morale in Iraq, then stop extending their tours and let them know when they are coming home and stick to it. If I had been extended one day in Vietnam, I might have gone AWOL to get out of there. I have not seen one action on the part of the government that indicates any real concern about troop morale.

I understand the hurt that some parents could go through knowing their child has been killed in this folly. It would seem natural to salve the pain of grief and loss to want one's child to have died doing something that was patriotic and heroic. If any of you reading this have lost a child, just know that whether you support the war or not your child died serving other human beings that are unfortunately tied up in a mess. That is patriotic and what heroes are made of. I have not lost a child to war, though I have a son who is an infantry officer. Hopefully everyone who has emotions about this war can come together to truly support the troops. THE ONLY MEANINGFUL SUPPORT THE TROOPS ARE GETTING TODAY IS FROM THE INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE WORKING DILIGENTLY TO GET THEM HOME NOW. I have read opinions that express differences between Iraq and Vietnam. There are only a few and they are inconsequential. In the big picture Iraq is leading us down the same path. The media are wrong. The people who have come out to Camp Casey to help coordinate the press and events with me are not putting words in my mouth, they are taking words out of my mouth. I have been known for sometime as a person who speaks the truth and speaks it strongly. I have always called a liar a liar and a hypocrite a hypocrite. Now I am urged to use softer language to appeal to a wider audience. Why do my friends at Camp Casey think they are there? Why did such a big movement occur from such a small action on August 6, 2005?

Sorry guys, I haven't been around lately. I have been sooo busy with the new school year. I'm teaching bilingual Pre-K this year. Wow, they are so cute but so small.

Anyway, talking about this full moon, I must say that this is the hardest full moon I have had in such a long time. I can really feel this one in my bones, and everyone I know is having alot of problems.

About Sheehan, there have been many men saying the same thing she is. Look at all the soldiers coming back saying the exact samething but no one listens. Working is a female dominated profession, (I know here that I we'll upset some people) I know that women are seen more trustworthy. It is very hard being a minority (sexual and gender wise) at the workplace. Especially since I am in a profession that society says a man should "not" be in. I have to be even more cautious and even a harder worker to prove myself.

A friend of mine works for marketing to the Gay/Lesbian community and told me that lesbians are seen as more trustworthy by others than gay men. That is why many add campaigns to support gay marriage feature lesbian couples. They are seen as more trustworthy and moral then men. That is why I think Sheehan's message is getting through. She is seen as less of a threat.

I know that I will get some hateful replies but I think it should be said.

Sally: I mis-spoke myself. The number prior to the election should have been six not 14. There have been 20 (some reports say 21) deaths from the same battilion in Ohio during the tail end of July and early August,2005.

Six deaths occured the preceding week-end of the special election and 14 two days later which would have put the 14 a day after the election of August 2.

But I remember hearing of the six deaths on NPR on the week-end hourly newscast prior to the special election and wondered how the loss might affect the election outcome. It seems almost cruel for me to be thinking such thoughts but feel most of the time that nothing will awaken the American people like a severe loss would. I have been looking at previous articles on the inaugration chart looking for signs that this administration will collapse shortly, another outlandish thought that I am spending a lot of time on as I am so eager to be rid of them. Things move so slowly.

Furthermore, the Coingate scandal was in the news spotlight in May 2005 and even that wasn't enough to sway the voters in Ohio.

Their collective grief coupled with the rampant corruption doesn't appear to be painful enough to awaken the people. I wonder too, how much pain and loss it will have to take.

Asteroids:

I am a big fan of asteroids and do believe they count in our charts. In fact on Astrodeinst under 'Extended Chart Selection' there are over 12,000 asteroid names. I found my first, last and middle names there and put them in my chart and they explained alot of karma that I could not understand with just the nine planets, etc. The asteroids are fantastic for timing. They are drop jaw accurate. I use them on a weekly basis and they answer alot of questions. I put in names of people I know and use asteriods Karma, Achilles, Nemesis, Eros, and Psyche
alot. Let me know what you all think after trying them.

Yes it helps that she's a woman-but more importantly, she had a child that actually paid the ultimate price, is ordinary, and is conventional in so many other respects. That has added to her credibility-and made her even more threatening to the powers that be. Those powers have spent billions to sway women like Cindy-soccer moms who children have grown up to "do the right thing" only to find out that that sense of duty and moral obligation was taken for granted. So taken for granted that nobody took the time and care to ensure that the cause was just, doable, and honestly argued.

They look at Cindy's very everydayness and wonder how many more like her harbor secret doubts and despair that have not yet surfaced publicly. And she could speak to them in a way no celebrity or professional activist ever could.

Somebody upthread remarked on interest in Asteroids. Although I've already mentioned this, I take up some more space mentioning again. ASTEROID GODDESSES by Demetra George. Ms. George really does some good research in tracing the "lineage" of the asteroids, showing their power.

As to right brain, left brain...women tend to use their left brain skills more adroitly than men. Hence the superior use of language at an early age, whilst men (boy babies) tend to excell at objects and spatial relationships, a right brain activity. Still, there is a large overlap on the bell curve. Further men have fewer connections in the corpus collusum (sp?) than women do, making it harder to access the information from both sides of their brains, AND more able to shut out the cry of a baby. ( I researched this ad naseum for my Psychology Thesis some years ago.)
In a Time Magazine article of some years ago, when scientists were further stream lining their findings, it was said: :"if Man's brain is the like the Jaguar Car of the animal kingdom, Women's brains are the luxury edition."
Further, if one were to measure brain size by creating a ratio of brain size to actual body size, the way scientists do with other animals, women have larger brains than men. There is still some controversy as to what, where and why. And most men don't like to talk about it.

The optimum of couse is "whole brain" and women tend to be more adapt at using the "whole brain" and that gives them the edge of language. But men have a more highly developed left brain while women tend to use the right.

It's easy to mix those up. But women have some connecting neurons that do connect both lobes in a more efficient manner than men, they don't, usually, have the same access to both sides as women. That's why during a stroke, if the language center is damaged women can more easily restore language than men. But spatial skills are a left brain function.

Well, I quess I'm an anomaly. I'm terrible at science and math and all that stuff. I'm male and speak three languages. I always was better at languages, so don't take the bell curve too far. Last time we did that, schools discouraged women in the sciences.

Also, since we are tooting or own horns, gay male brains are the best of both worlds. They have the language centers of women (with a smaller hyperthalmus) and more connections between both hemispheres,(the amgydala is larger and more developed) yet they have the spatial intelligence of the male brain. So maybe instead of the Bush admin. firing gay tranlators, they should understand that we are an asset to the country.

To be honest, I prefer to work and live around both men and women. I like it better with schools that are evenly mixed. I think it makes for a much more friendly and "upbeat" working enviroment. Both women and men bring so much to the workplace.

I find that when there is too many men, the workplace becomes sterile and hierarchical. With too many women, the place gets territorial and the women begin to fight and hate each other. When there is a good mix, it subdues the less favorable traits of both sexes.

And Carol, I understand what you say about Cindy and here "everdayness". However, soldiers have been coming back and telling the truth about the war, yet we don't listen to them. There is also an "everydayness" to a soldier from the heartland who gets sent to Iraq. My question is why does society approach these two people differently. Why does the soldier become a statistic while Cindy gets a mouthpiece. I LOVE what Cindy is doing and I support her 100% but I just see that she is saying what others have been saying all along.

It may be some time before we know what role if any that Diebold voting machines played in the outcome of Hackett's run for Congress. But regardless, personally, I'm surprised that he came as close as he did. Metropolitan Cincinnati is by far the most conservative region of the state. That said, I don't get how even a die-hard, "working class" Republican could vote party line over an actual flesh-and-blood war veteran. But I guess I'm expecting to find reason amongst the ridiculous.

True to Pisces, people in this state seem to have a difficult time facing reality, and would rather escape into one of our very well-known amusement parks or football on the positive side (football ruled by Pisces?). On this Aug. 6 the president was no less determined to shrug off bad news. Though 14 marine reservists had been killed days earlier by a roadside bomb in Haditha, his national radio address that morning made no mention of Iraq. So it goes with a president who hasn't foreseen any of the setbacks in the war he fabricated against an enemy who did not attack inside the United States in 2001.

Travesio, I agree workplaces and organizations seem to function better when they are run by both men and women. Also, I think there is a place for a boys' club and a girls' club--night out--whatever.

IMO one reason Cindy is being heard is that she expressed herself outside Bush's hideaway. If a returned Marine, soldier, etc. had done the same, I expect he would have gotten a lot of attention also.

Another reason is that there are many more loved ones over here than there are troops over there. So maybe it is easier for most of us to put ourselves in the place of the grieving mother than in the place of the wounded or killed soldier.

Washington - he Army is planning for the possibility of keeping the current number of soldiers in Iraq -- well over 100,000 -- for four more years, the Army's top general said today.

In an Associated Press interview, Gen. Peter Schoomaker said the Army is prepared for the "worst case" in terms of the required level of troops in Iraq. He said the number could be adjusted lower if called for by slowing the force rotation or by shortening tours for soldiers.

Schoomaker said commanders in Iraq and others who are in the chain of command will decide how many troops will be needed next year and beyond. His responsibility is to provide them, trained and equipped.

U.S. pushes theocratic stuff; Kurds say to stuff it

Travieso: I work for a foundation whose mission is to "improve performance by better aligning leadership, organization and culture with strategy." We do this through corporate leadership educational programs for moving women into higher powered leadership positions. We have both men and women working toward this goal. Catalyist and the Roper Report (both are private companies who study the impact of leadership and the type of leadership on the corporate culture, bottom line results and the wider national and international culture, the directions corporate is moving and the mistakes they are making. These reports are paid for by corporations and are not published for the public) At any rate, studies have shown that companies that share top leadership positions with both sexes have a more positive corporate culture, have an improved productive culture, and their bottom line reflects an overall profit increase by about a third, as opposed to companies run by all men or all women.

This is most profoundly seen where women bring their feminine talents as opposed to being "men in drag" so to speak. One of the main problems to overcome is the problem of women retreating from sharing their opinions when "men" show up because "men" have a tendency to over shout, be over agressive, angry when they don't get their way or pout, etc. Studies have shown that leadership skills, one of which is "standing your ground" must be taught to women. Further study has shown that men have a tendency toward immaturity and anxiety toward women with shared power, somewhat of a "mother" complex.

Many corporations and men at the top of those corporations acknowledge this (well those corporations who have an interest in moving forward) and we have several corporate male CEO's taking coaching classes, bringing in consultants and working with their male leadership group in addressing their hidden anxieties toward sharing power with women. Like I said, shared power improves the financial bottom line and productivity so their interest in growing beyond the present to a cognitive reality is great.

Hope I am not flamed for this:

I have many gay friends. Where I hang out everyone is there, straights and gays, corporates and artists.
I still feel anger towards my independance and sucesses from the males, straight and gay. In fact a male artist who always tried to shoot me down in a critique group of picturebook artists/writers (I left- too much macho energy) just sent me an apology email. He now sees the machismo in his community while raising his child. His remorse was refreshing.
Re my male gay friends (some not all): If I am not acting out a role by being 1) damsel in distress 2) mother 3) hard core bit*ch 3) lesbian they just do not get it and start acting angry and resentful. Just like the straight men. That layer of male self-entitlement still exists. I feel it from artists who after they see I'm fun, open-minded but totally serious about running a business without any support or being a diletante or playing games or roles get resentful. One male could not believe I did not know how to sew. Another uses women friends to help him throw parties (for his gay male friends) and arrive beforehand to set up. (I always acted too busy). Another a graphic artist who I overheard saying he was going to 'keep it gay' in hiring for his business then turned around and asked me to get him into picturebook publishing. What nerve and it's reverse prejudice. There are other gay friends who love my success, independance and strength. I guess it all comes down to individuals evolving away from stereotypes. The layers of ignorance are thick with humans in general. Can't we all just get along?

The male/female connection is like a plug in a socket in many ways and completes an energy circuit. It's no wonder businesses thrive with this combination.

This is the basic act of creativity. Maybe we need to go beyond the purely sexual dynamic and on to the shared energy in countless other ways. If we could learn to keep it circulating, maybe the fear of each sex losing power in the connection would diminish. It takes desire and practice, awareness, and experimentation. If we could learn to relate knowing that that sex was not going to happen, then a lot of the alpha male, fertile female, dominance and submission games would be curtailed.
It all takes self-mastery but the payoff can be big. There needs to be another kind of shared goal.
We will probably automatically evolve to this as population needs dictate and we become more and more free of the traditional male/female relationships.
And learn about the excitement of sexuality without sex.

I just read an artical of a research project that found when men's masculinity was threatned, then they where more in favor of war and more homophobic. It did not change in any way the women where threatned. Now I could say a few things more but I would have to bleep it.

I have been buying lamps. These cute little lamps that put our an amazing bright light. Now I was thinking hurricane. First I got my daugters each one. Then my granddaughters, then my son and daughter in law and then my childrens step sister. When I read that Sally, I saw a different signifigance in my lamp fetish. So next week I am getting the other daughter and granddaughters a lamp, even though they are not in huricane area. Oh I will get the grandsons one also. But I realized that it was light for the goddesses in the family, more than anything else, when I read what wonderful Sally wrote.

Yes the daughters, the mother's, the grandmother's and the men who are assured in their masculinity need to unit to light up this world in peace. It can be done and if we don't some other more enlightened country is going to do it for us. And I do think a gay man has a more assured masculinity or assured sense of self than a homophobic as-bleep.

Beasley, it's very interesting to me what cultures value, respect and welcome the female perspective. Aisian is one, African/Am. is another, some of the european cultures (mostly Swedish) India is another. White American Men and Arab cultures have been brought up to discount women as a voice, so their feelings are complicated, emotional and irrational and they know it, but they don't know how to articulate those emotions without being politically incorrect so to speak. The most interesting thing to have come out in studies is the advantage of men who have been raised with sisters or raised by women alone, such as single mothers and/or grandmothers.

We usually begin with courses on gender differences and multi-generational differences in the work place. One simple example of gender differences would be the term "team-player." When a man asks if you are a team player he means can you follow the coach, can you do what you are told. A woman hearing the same term interprets that as can you work together can you collaborate.
An example of multi-generational differences (and there are three to four generations trying to work together) would be the generation under 35. A huge percentage of these people have had working parents and have been latch key kids with responsibilities at an early age. They don't want to be treated like kids and can take more responsibility than the older generations are willing to give. Also the men in that group see things differently, because of the high percentage of women at the mid-level management positions, most young men experience their first supervisor and mentor as a woman, so they have higher expections of women as leaders than do their executives who fall in the 40 to 65 year old range. Everyone has expectations today of being treated with respect in the work place and that has not been the case until the last ten years. Multi-cultures are another problem. While there has been so much focus on out-sourcing in the news, there is the additional problem of in-sourcing from other countries. You have Europeans working for international companies in this country and they have expectations of 4 to 6 week vacations, putting families first, better maternity benefits for both men and women, plus a host of other things and are willing to be paid less for those things. While their American counterparts are asking for the same perks but with high pay expectations.

When corporations go overseas to get work for cheaper salaries, they are finding the countries they are going into now want more money for their governments to improve their infrastructures, so American corporations, while getting cheap labor, are paying for it in other ways and it's not working out for them as they had planned.

A few years ago I wrote an article for AW saying that the "powers that be" had unleashed chaos into the world, and the problem with unleashing chaos is you cannot control where the hounds of hell go. Always the first place a society, any society experiences the problems or ills of that society are the poor, then it begins to rise. It is rising now toward the middle class and it will rise to the rich, then the very rich. The very rich live in a bubble and believe themselves immune but they are not. They are not immune from disease, or no one buying their products, their homes, no one with the incentive to work, to build, to create. Haiti and Cuba are great examples of this. These people sit in think tanks and ivory towers and their ideas all sound good on paper, but they are running into problems when they get to the trenches.

Iraq is another good example. I don't know what they had in mind for Iraq, but they did say democracy, and Iraq is now headed toward an Islam theocratic country. The United States of America by way of George Bush and Co. have used trillions of tax payers money to create an Islam terrorist country, supposedly the people we went there to get rid of, an example of a think tank, neo-con, wealthy elite concept gone bad. Now in corporations, it's interesting to note that CEO's are turning to women consultants to tell them what to do with their think tank, narrow thinking concepts that are going awry.

We think these people know what they are doing and we feel helpless in the face of their money and power. They do not know what they are doing and all they have is their money and power, they believe they will keep it, they don't actually know how to keep it and I know a ton of consultants that are lifting it from them everyday. The developing countries are dipping into their pot, they are at a loss right now.

Charles Reese is a conservative columnist and I hope everyone will read this and what is actually happening and has happened in Israel. Over 20 years ago when Israel began occupying the Gaza Strip, America told them not to do it, and they did it anyway. Now they are asking American to pay 2.2 Billion dollars to resettle the the people being evicted so they can build a concentration camp wall around Palestine. This is not going to go well.

CALGARY - It appears the list of high-ranking U.S. politicians interested in scoping out Alberta's oilsands will grow next month to include Dick Cheney, the U.S. Vice-President.

According to a spokesman for Alberta Premier Ralph Klein the second highest-ranking politician in the United States will pay a visit to the booming region in early September.

Mr. Klein told reporters about the scheduled visit on Friday at the end of last week's premiers conference in Banff.

I am curious as to how the transits are effecting Cheney. I am particularly curious because there are only 5 days separating our births and there are certainly transits that are hitting me. I remember being in a male/female sensitivity awareness training session some years back and found myself disagreeing with a male colleague and holding my ground, quietly, but holding. The male facilitator asked the guy what he was feeling and what he wanted to say or do. The guy answered that he wanted to "F######@ me and punch my lights out." I was genuinely startled. I had experienced such anger from Arab males, but not from an American male with such force. The other males called me a "ball cutter." I didn't think so. And I got very little support from most of the females openly. Only later did they come up and support me in private.

No WMD's, no connection to 9/11, no terrorists until we arrived and now no democracy. The United States of America has sold out the women of Iraq.

Seeing those settlers move out of Gaza and the west bank is a step in the right direction, and we should encourage it. My crowd is already hurting badly and most have stopped going out for dinner a couple of times a month, movies are a thing of the past and coupons are being cut for groceries. Yet, I see the idiots still buying the gas guzzling land barges because they are getting "such a good deal". I think society as a whole have lost their f#$*ing minds. I guess they all think that JaySus is going to come and take them away from this hell that our world has become.

Me, I can barely make ends meet. I'm unemployed, looking for a job and can't get sh**. I have been in the entertainment industry for close to 20 years and am looking at retail to put food on the table. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would go from 35-40K a year, that was with massive OT to 7 or 8 dollars an hour. Yet, I see all the illegals and foreigner's in more and more of "our" jobs. Thanks the Gods/Goddess' that my partner still does well, but for how long?? He has been covering all of the household bills for sometime now and we're really feeling the squeeze.

This from my Dad, who has not agreed with my view of things since the invasion! He watches cable... I don't even watch tv... just a week ago, he was talking about the 'terrists' - had lunch with him before I left today... difference in night and day...

Don't see a shift in the Corporate Media... they're as mouthpiece as ever... WaPo and New Pravda are almost reading Rove's press releases for Cindy's Camp Casey... shameful, but then, we didn't expect anything else, did we... Mike Allen's article in WaPo today is straight out of Rove's mouth... those white males can't stand it when a female makes an end run... can you say "touchdown"? And more to come... Joan Baez is holding a concert tonight -FREE- at Camp Casey on the one acre lot, they expect 1,000... the Iraqis are refusing to meet Dubya's timetable for the constitution... and Dubya is having to tour the country and explain (lie) about why we're in Iraq... wahooooooo... what happened to the 5 weeks vacation?

Seven years ago, I worked in a certain big box store (hint: not Walton-Mart) for one of the most fantastic, generous, warm-hearted (Sun in Leo) women that I have ever known. Let's call her "Julie". Not a store manager, Julie was an assistant manager, but all of the other managers, including the store manager (who was also female) deferred to her on all of the basic ideals and philosophy about operating and managing the store.

Julie molded that place into the ideal that was better than the ideal itself -- And it worked! We had absolutely everything that we needed to do our jobs, and do them well. We had the hours. We had the staff. We consistently surpassed the all-important **Bottom Line**. Turnover was nominal. We had the right, hard-working people moving into the right positions at the right time. We had the morale. We had team spirit. We even had a family feel about the people we worked with. And it wasn't ever really work. It was FUN!

At one point, the "higher-ups" apparently noticed that something was very different at our store, and they supposedly wanted to study us to see what we were doing that made us so much better than so many of their other stores. As I said earlier, our store had become "the ideal better than the ideal itself". Thanks to Julie -- and even the store manager and the other assitant managers all agreed -- We had actually become THE STORE to beat all other stores.

So, how did it all end? Sadly, not well. Eventually, the woman who had been our mostly hands-off store manager transferred to a new store out of state. The new store manager, another female, brought tons of baggage with her in the form of a ridiculous vanity complex (Sun in Libra) -- I'm talking plastic surgery and fashion/image/aging issues -- mixed up with an emotionally messy Moon in Scorpio. This woman's scales were definitely out of whack. No one could outshine her. And don't you dare even suggest that you might pose a threat to her unquestioned authority, no matter how inept, insecure and unreasonable (or tyrannical) it might be.

Julie, our very sunny and spirited assistant manager inevitably butted heads with the new "boss" many times over the "great ideal". But in the ensuing battle of confidence vs. insecurity, "insecurity" started to feel even more insecure, pulled rank on confidence and "won". Julie's prize? Banishment to another, far-off store.

As I said, no one could challenge "Insecurity's" way. And so Julie was transferred out, other assistant managers followed, and the great unravelling ensued. Favoritism, not hard work, became the rule for promotions and rewards. And of course, there was Fear. You never knew where "Insecurity" might be lurking while she was the manager on or off duty in the store. And because she was so insecure, she'd probably be too insecure about herself in pointing out something that you weren't up to code about to your face, and resort to chewing you out to your floor manager behind your back. Compared to Julie, who not only treated her employees with respect, instead of as immature children, but who also inspired them to work well and have fun on the job at the same time.

Moral of this story? There are very good female managers, just as there are very bad female managers. Despite watching a very positive situation get all "Cheneyed-up" before my eyes and watching a lot of good people around me take a lot of bulls---, before they eventually got tired of it all and quit, I do feel fortunate in retrospect for the perspective.

I think the world needs more Julies of both sexes.

This is the first time in my whole career that I have worked for a male. Sally, I hope you do not judge all men with these broad, over-reaching statements about men. To be honest, and I know that I will probably anger you with this one, but my mom ( a life-long feminist) always told me that she had more problems with other women in the workplace than men. I always thought that "no way" - that men would have more problems with a woman in managerial positions.

Well, unfortunately, she was right. I have never had a problem with women doctors, dentists, whatever. However, women I have noticed, don't like women in managerial positions. It's sad, but i feel that women get so competitive in the workplace.

See Sally, everyone in the world thinks that in someway that they are better then the other-either because they are a woman, man, gay, straight, black, white, whatever. It's our egos that wants to say the "we are different" from the "other" so therefore better. It's sad. Everyone is guilty of in some way. But Sally, you are a great person because you are Sally who is unique in her own right, not just because you are a woman.

As a person of mixed ancestry, I can't disagree more that the American white male is naturally more homophobic. Wrong, wrong, wrong!!! It is the white side of my family who is more excepting and more appreciative of me as a homosexual.

Sally, even though I'm a man, I hope you could still appreciate someone like me. I don't like enemies, so just because we disagree doesn't mean that we are bad people.

Earlier today Shawn Mullins rocked the camp with Dylan's "Masters of War" and tonight Joan Baez brought the camp to tears and filled everyone with hope. We heard again from Cindy - her mom is doing much better and she is making arrangements to return.

Hundreds were here in 99 degree heat on this Sunday. The camp continues to grow. Each day something happens that makes me wonder how it can be topped. Joan Baez is going be tough to top but I have a feeling it won't be long before a new highlight will emerge only to be replaced by another.

Individual personal experience will just about always show anomalies, Travieso... stats across a broad span of population shows the real picture. Otherwise, it's like comparing the proverbial "apples & gasoline"... they don't particularly go together... but they do make interesting stories.

True JoannaOregon, I'm just at a wonderful and happy time in my life were I feel every new person in my life is like a new box of discovery. I know that may sound a little "new agey" or "hookey", but it's really true.

I see the paradox of the diversity of the human species which is such a beautiful thing, but under it all, we have so many of the same needs.

Sure, women do need a voice and in many fields and they are sorely under represented.

However, I am also breaking barriers and stereotypes. But, while women gain status for becoming managers, lawyers, whatever, male kindergarten treachers lose status in our culture. Studies have shown that women are less likely to date men in predimately female professions.

This is a painful fact JoannaOregon, but the fact that women are less likely to date or marry a male in a predominately female field (remember all the jokes about Ben Stiller as a nurse in Meet the Parents) shows that women are also responsible for mantaining a homophobic, sexist, and hierarchical culture.

The myth of a great rainbow coalition with women being less homophobic and racist was broken when I took a course in feminist history and learned that Susan B. Anthony was a racist who didn't beleive that Blacks should have been able to vote. And should I even mention Anita Bryant spear heading the first modern crusade against gay men that culiminated in the murder of Harvey Milk.

The reason that am writing this is because I feel that on this messageboard, I read alot of stereotypes that make me feel uncomfortable. Believe me, if it was a bunch of men writing about the inferiority of women, I would be just (if not more) willing to debate for equality.

Watched CNN at 11:00 show tonite. I feel like some of the other posters saw a different show. Bush wasnt blamed for molding facts to fit his policy. CIA, especially Tenet (slam dunk), was blamed for relying on dubious sources (Curve Ball)and giving prez faulty intel.

Whoops, maybe its time to sign up for that dish TV! If CNN is going to go honest it could be interesting!

Back in 1958,59? we went to a Joan Baez concert in Camden NJ. It was a limp humid hot afternoon...she wasn't inspired, & asked for requests from the audience, who also couldn't think of much! A potential disaster! So she shoved forward this bushy haired kid accompanying her and had him sing.................... It was Bob Dylan, of course, who electrified the audience, and elicited a standing ovation at the end! Such is the working of fate...I had never heard of him until that day.
As a generalization; aren't both men and women harder to work for today, than 10 or 15 years ago, because they are driven by the ever more stringent demands of the, ever merging corporations?????????
No-one has mentioned the age thing relative to bosses.........ever work for an 18 year old manager, in a national chain or franchise situation? That's really difficult. I enumerated for the 2000 census with a team of other wise old organic farmers/freelancers, under a team of young male bosses, in Bangor. There wasn't even common ground for communication!
They just couldn't grasp that there were 4 bedroom 2 bath houses occupied only 3 months of the year! ( I live on a peninsula, running along the bay, with pricy summer homes.)

Travieso, I think you may have misunderstood my post. I was quoting studies done on a national basis and experiences consultants have had. Plus experiences men (executives) have related about their issues and complexities in dealing with cultural differences between countries, women, gender etc. I don't have a personal preference myself, I've had positive and negative experiences with both sexes and could recite stories from both perspectives. I don't do these studies, and the people I work with, men and women don't take any of this personally. They are simply interested in discovering what holds themselves back from comfortably working with both sexes at the executive level because they recognize the value of doing so and recognize the value of improving the workplace. They are interested in working through their limitations that's all. There are executive studies done all over the world to identify best business practices and how to achieve them.

You know Sally, I owe you an apology. After your last post, I realized that you are in the business world. This is a world I know nothing about, so I feel I cannot comment. Education, especially Early childhood, is a whole other ball of waxs.

I have never been in the business world nor ever wanted to be. I will really have to take your word for it. In education, districts and state agencies are just beginning to recognize the barriers for men in a traditonal female field. One reason is that the number of male teachers have declined 50% in the last 20 years. From what I have read, two main reasons pop up in surveys. The biggest one is the low pay and the lack of prestige. Men with families just can't make it on a teachers pay. Secondly, the fear of being called or charged of child abuse. Also, many principals have been afraid of hiring men because of parent and community lack of excepting male teachers. Like I said, this is just beginning to change.

As for the business world, God bless you Sally, I just couldn't survive in that world. My hats off to you.

I do understand the problems in the educational field, I come from a "teaching" family. My mother, father, brother, sister, sister in law, my nephew, aunts, uncles, cousins, and one of my daughters. I have a son who would love to teach and would be a natural born teacher but he knows he could not financially provide for a family. My oldest daughter is an Early Childhood teacher and the pay is just awful and getting worse. I used to think if one more politician said "children are our most precious resource" I would go for his throat. Education is a whole different set of issues and problems than corporate, and the problems I think are worse in education today than they have ever been. I grew up in Kansas and was thrilled to see their Supreme Court threaten to close the schools unless the Kansas legislature come up with more money for schools. Someone has to start holding these school boards and state's feet to the fire. If a person teaches today they have to do so out of a love for the profession because there seems to be little support. Plus parents today don't work with teachers to turn out a valuable product (their child), they are working constantly it seems against teachers. It's a tough profession today, that's for sure.

Gosh, Travieso… when I was doing my thing in the psych field for a number of years, people drooled over the few fellows that entered K-12 to teach. They were much appreciated… particularly by wome. For one thing, they felt small children needed a positive male role model… for whom, many times, there was not one at home. Come to think of it tho, there was this cancer fellow (sun/mars/uranus conjunct in cancer), who had THREE masters degree & worked in 1-7 grades… married to another grade school teacher… both from Pennsylvania. Anyway, a friend of mine last year sent a raft of newspaper clippings on this same fellow, who was finally nabbed for child abuse… severe child abuse. He’d take a child out back of the building, & beat the crap out of them. Like with the priests, principals et al shuttled him from school to school until parents finally put one/one together & howled. They do have corporal punishment in Oklahome more’s the pity. Anyhow, I’m relating a personal… well not personal exactly… a very sad story.

I don’t think that “equality” shld be up for “debate”… not at all… inappropriate debate subject. “…with Liberty & Justice for All” is very good. ;O)

The issue is not whether people are of this skin hue or that skin hue, are from this culture or that culture, are of this gender or that gender. The issue is whether people are or are not assholes. And, unfortunately, assholes come in all skin hues, all cultures and all genders. Fortunately, they are in the minority.

I don't know either where we are going with education in this country, Sally. And I agree with your son. A teacher's pay -- wherever you might actually be able to find a job -- is not even enough to provide for onesself in many parts of the country, much less for a family, a house and a slice of the American Dream.

There's a joke I've heard coming out of Maryland. Something about a teacher there having to marry at least 3 other teachers at once just to make ends meet. It's a joke, but still very telling of the times.

There must be tens of thousands of prospective teachers around the country (myself included) who are dying to get a teaching position and would work under almost any circumstances. In places like Maryland and Florida, there are jobs, but housing and even apartments have been priced so far out of range for average, working-class people that a teacher might get a job, only to find that he or she can't even afford the rent for a one room studio apartment.

Something's gotta give.

Btw, a military recruitment complex down the street from me disappeared... all moved out lock, stock & empty. The local folks weren't very nice to them... mebbe that had something to do with it.

From all accounts, something phenomenal is going on at Camp Casey. It happened so spontaneously and is the stuff of folk heroism. All this Leo is bringing us an unfolding mythological saga. The most beautiful thing is the way Cindy disappeared and left the people glowing, full of life, and taking the lead themselves. People are converging in droves. And it is all playing out from moment to moment in such unexpected ways. The hate has been neutralized as this coming together has been a monumental success, so full of rhythm and grace. They merely turned and walked away from the violent incidents. Barely talked about them. Something has taken over.
The main thing it seems is an unmistakable, powerful feeling of hope. As Pluto is just about to go direct, I think we've had a parting of the clouds. The baton is being passed in Crawford from the defeated hero to the emerging ones. How wonderful of our President to fail to meet with his people. I've never seen anything like this. The people coming to his home, not the White House. I even think hatred against him has been overtaken by love among the campers. The Sun will soon leave Leo and this moment will dissipate but hopefully Saturn will give us the continuity to go on in this vein.

It's too soon to tell about Iraq. One report I read said that the clerics in the forefront now are more modern than Sistani. I think women have come too far in Iraq to go back to the middle ages. It all has to settle. For some reason we can't ascertain just yet, this is what Iraq needs for the moment. It will morph into something else. Something that is right for this torn up nation. It's possible that they can repair and build from the years of wreckage they have experienced. They naturally want to follow their religious leaders so they will work it out. One important thing we are all learning is that we can't force our ideologies on others.
The occupation of Iraq is a colossal failure.

Men and women always have equal power in this ongoing struggle against the greater oppressor. The vast universe we all fear and can't control. And the death that awaits us. Even when men make the laws and it appears that they are in control, women are just as powerful in other ways. The men fear other men as they strangle on their neckties. And women have many dangerous emotional weapons. It's a constant shifting of sands, and no one wins. As long as we pit ourselves against the other gender, group up in battle, the inequities in societies will continue. Men are not the enemy of women. The enemy is within each one of us. It's a decision between continuing conflict or harmony. They are equally accessible. Neither gender should rule by diminishing the other's power.

One thing though. An Islamic government is really going to make Cindy and the mothers more than question what their kids died for. A hard one to explain.

I just don't like to hear anyone being treated poorly or unjustly judgedst because they are born the what they are. I truly believe that evey human being has worth and has something to offer the world, but they cannot do that when you have someone saying that they are genetically or spiritually inferior. Of course, this does not mean that all people choose to express their higher selves.

Joanna, there are two types of females teacher in regards to fellow male teachers - their are those who love male teachers (this is the majority). Then there are others who feel uncomfortable and resent us. My first year of teaching, one woman said that I wouldn't make to the middle of the year because men didn't have what it takes to be teachers. Well, that was 10 years ago. But, it was also other female teeachers who excepting me and loved working with me.

One thing I do know is studies have shown that male teachers on the elementary level use humor more in the classroom and ar less concerned with structure - which you would think would be the opposite. We tend to be less mother "henish".

Anyway, I am an Aries however I have Jupiter aspecting every planet in my chart with Jupiter right on my midheaven on Leo. So don't blame me for my "It's all good" and "live and let live" attitude. Everyone has value and that is a beautiful thing.

As Beasley wrote, it was CNN's first stab at real journalism in years. That's what blew me away. And also quoting Beasley, CNN was airing facts many of us have known for 5 agonizing years.

All those people who took to the streets before the invasion knew about this stuff! So, I'm glad some audience who aren't on the net and don't read progressive magazines or the foreign press will finally "get it."

I respectfully sorta disagree with the unknown poster who said Bush wasn't really held to account. The CNN show didn't draw a thick red line to Bush, but they did put in plenty of dots.

My question is, why now? Pat C is right--there likely is some spin or ulterior reason for a member of the MSM (main stream media) or as I call them the CON (corporate owned news) to "discover" this story now.

The first bar-headed geese have already arrived at their wintering grounds near the Cauvery River in the southern Indian state of Karnataka. Over the next ten weeks, 100,000 more geese, gulls, and cormorants will leave their summer home at Lake Qinghai in western China, headed for India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and, eventually, Australia.

An unknown number of these beautiful migrating birds will carry H5N1, the avian flu subtype that has killed 61 people in Southeast Asia and which the World Health Organization (WHO) fears is on the verge of mutating into a pandemic form like that which killed 50 to 100 million people in the fall of 1918. As the birds arrive in the wetlands of South Asia, they will excrete the virus into the water where it risks spreading to migrating waterfowl from Europe as well as to domestic poultry. In the worst-case scenario, this will bring avian flu to the doorstep of the dense slums of Dhaka, Kolkata, Karachi, and Mumbai.

The avian flu outbreak at Lake Qinghai was first identified by Chinese wildlife officials at the end of April. Initially it was confined to a small islet in the huge salt lake, where geese suddenly began to act spasmodically, then to collapse and die. By mid-May it had spread through the lake's entire avian population, killing thousands of birds. An ornithologist called it "the biggest and most extensively mortal avian influenza event ever seen in wild birds."

Chinese scientists, meanwhile, were horrified by the virulence of the new strain: when mice were infected they died even quicker than when injected with "genotype Z," the fearsome H5N1 variant currently killing farmers and their children in Vietnam.

Sally, I am around alot of Indians having an Indian guru. They may worship the goddess but the the real human women are not treated like the goddess, they are still seen and treated 'below' the male.

Travesio, in my profession, children's picturebooks, the ratio is 3/4 women to 1/4 men. A business started by women. Yet , look at your bookshelf and you will see that most of the award winning artists are men.
When I went away to LA to teach, the ratio of teaching artists men to women were 3:1. The women artists complain about this all the time. Whenever there is an article written about picturebook artists there is always the backwards ratio that show men favored 3:1.
I even went to a great art show at the museum in the 70's that revealed how women artists were always neglected throughout the centuries.
Some jerk on an illustrator's listserve
kicked me off after he cursed me out when I complained that not one woman artist won the on list pretigious book awards that year. He ranted that men are 'better artists'.
My belief is that "traditionally" men win the the bread for the family so the money goes to them. That the awards and the book contracts are given by unevovled women who are not liberated enough to think that someone like me is earning my living too without support from a male.

Maybe with this kind of empathy we can start to bridge gaps. I visit alot of schools and male k teachers are rare. I enjoy it when I do see them. Teachers in general are not acknowledged in our current corporate society. It's not just a male/female thing. Keep living your dharma with blinders on, that's what I do. I too can complain the men (especially gay men) have taken over my business (and it's true). But I now put my energy into doing my best work. I do business like the males with that edge of self-entitlement that I too can have it all. But use my femininity to actually care about the people I do business with and keep it on a personal level and that gives me an edge over both sexes. Plus made more strong women creative friends who are not competitve and are more inclusive. I've been staying away from the angry males who try to keep me feeling 'less than'. Just because I'm not 'less than' and I'm an equal and I live it regardless of their words or thoughts.

Bhakti....yours was the first post I read, so not sure what this relates too, but boy, you've got LOTSA women in your profession compared to mine as a storyboard artist. (My artist drawing partner retired about 3 years ago, a woman, and she is the ONLY one I know of who worked as a storyboard illustrator after our fashion illustration careers crashed.) I also saw the show in the 1970's on women artists (1650-1950) and have the catalogue for it. Did you know that GUILDS were started by women as a way to support each other? That men weren't in them? and that eventually they were taken over by men envious of their success and NOT ALLOWED TO JOIN them? (know my father's patriarchial line were in the Weavers Guild in England in the 16th/17th century alone with Will Shakespeare's family! They bailed him out financially after his father died and made it possible for him to write. Of course, if Will had been Wilma.....NADA!)

It seems that men have much more in the way of competitive qualities, and some women do too, although no one seems to get that by cooperating together every one could be working...thanks for speaking out on this issue.

Travieso, wow, what an experience for you! I've worked for and with almost exclusively with men for over twenty years. I'm a mainframe systems programmer few few women in this field. I've reported to both genders over the years and gotta agree with Cybear an ass is an ass. The ones I have had trouble with are the guys with short man syndrome. And refused to play in the company pool...got along just fine with all.

Enjoy the experience. Course then I enjoy men and find them tasty and delectable.

Besides I'm old, a professional and I can make their lives miserable.

As usual, I am not sure if I made my point because I didn't even have much of a point when I wrote the Guild post....but the point was, women got together to do the support and cooperation thing and called it a Guild...in their support and cooperation mode, they allowed men to join as the men saw that this was a successful 'mode' of operation; then as they saw the possibilities of power within the business concept, took over and disenfranchised the women. Not unlike our current Union(Labor)/Buiness modes, only these are not about male/female issues, but power/powerlessness. Seems that *ush has "tanked" indeed, which is very interesting as last Friday I watched the new season opening of HBO's Bill Maher program and he had on as a guest Kelly Anne Conway of the (all-women run) Polling Company. Very intelligent woman, but so misguided and a devoted Republican completely blinded to the reality of things going on right under her nose. If one is to believe Kelly Anne and her poll numbers "all is right with the war in Iraq, *ush is doing a great job and she sincerely believes that the women of Iraq have been liberated and will soon be going to college!" Thank goodness Bill Maher called her on that one but she totally believes her own "polls". Weird show anyhow - guests were Asa Hutchinson, who is as brainwashed as poor blond Kelly Anne (an Anne Colter wanna-be?), and listening to both was like reading a child's fairy tale where the "good guys" always win. Then there was Phyllis Schlafly ... won't even go there as the woman is beyond belief herself and so full of hatred. I used to like Bill Maher but I think he's had his cage rattled to lay off the liberals and bring on more Repub points of view. Shame really as he was once worth watching. My day was made seeing the poll numbers on CNN - maybe there is a slight tilt to their reporting showing and slowly we will see a swing back to real reporting once again. Can one hope?

Judi - I think you are hopefully right about Bill Maher. He did call these people on some of the points there were trying to make and when KellyAnne started in on the "great things happening in Iraq for Iraqi women" he let her have it and set her straight about Iraq being turned into a theocracy so no college for women going to happen anytime soon. He also had on Paul Hackett for a one-on-one interview which was very interesting as Hackett made no bones about his dislike for *ush and all he stands for. Unfortunately it was just between him and Maher- would have liked to have seen him hold his own against Conway and Hutchinson but Maher invited comic Chris Rock to stand against them and he spent his entire time ranting about gas prices and doing his comedy routines. Maher does claim to be a Libertarian -but he also announced last season that he was asked to have more of the "other side" speaking out on his show, so since then he's been having these Repubs and some of the looney fringe on giving their viewpoints. Not as good a show as it once was due to that, but still worth a watch if you get HBO.

I worked with more women & gay men in the Interior Design field painting murals, than with men. Because my moon in the 6th is trine pluto in the 2nd, and in mutual reception; the women mentored and encouraged me. The Big BOSS woman ( a prime example of a "Taurus gone wrong" {tyrant!} that my husband worked for at first in store, got her panty hose in a wrinkle because she wanted an exclusive; when I connected with a designer in the DC area, and did some splendid big, creative jobs for...........and gave me a hard time; withheld work etc. But bottom line I was empowered because I was the only one who could do it as well as I did.! The gay men were appreciative, and admiring!
My Grandkids both had a male teacher for 2nd grade. He gave music lessons out of school. He was a wonderful teacher, and
made that year memorable for both of them.
Kelly Ann Conway..........used to be Repug Chair of somewhere during the winter of '03-'04, when they pitted her against several centrist Dem. pundits on CNN. Like Kay Bailey Hutcheson, & Katherine Harris, they are pumped up by the men on the team to go out & do their bidding. Instead of burkas, they wear pink power suits & botax! Complains of being drowsy, but doc said that was normal after a seizure... and they gave him an IV at hosp. We are just watching... Camille, your comment about the med has me curious... he takes claritin daily, has been doing so for about three years now. Jo...about 2 weeks ago, Caitlin's pediatrician, a young, new doc, declared after a 3 minute exam that Caitlin had asthma. In fact, Caitlin had a bad cough. But she had no fever or symptoms of a cold other than tiredness. My daughter didn't accept this (she actually HAS asthma). Caitlin is fine now, but I got what she had...which is characterized by extreme, extreme tiredness and then coughing and at one point, I sounded asthmatic and I was lightheaded and unable to breathe. A number of people I know have reported in on extreme tiredness...and now Caitlin's other grandfather has it. It is possible, that with the Claritin, some of they symptoms are masked. Lasted about 3 weeks. Perhaps you might ask also if he feels very tired (before the seisure) and continue asking....just a thought...damned if stuff isn't just passing around the world these days. BTW....I am fine (Aug 2 to Aug 22 for me). And my south node of the moon is 17 Aquarius...with T. Neptune right there.

Jo...I am at my daughter's and forgot to put my name on this...that was me on the asthma thing...

Jo - My youngest child has asthma and so many allergies and she had a one-time seizure from a prescription asthma med (not Clariton). Prescription was changed and it never happened again. I was told then that these type of seizures are not all that uncommon in young children. I also have a good friend whose young child had a seizure from playing video games, something about the blinking patterns on the screen that effect some children. You may want to ask if he was playing video games before this happened. Also, low blood sugar can sometimes be a cause ... blood tests would confirm that. Sending hugs to you ... glad to read that Chris is home and doing better! (((hugs))) to you both!

Sally, upthread you mention the contribution women can make when they bring in their own selves rather than being "men in drag". Rereading this thread, suddenly got a flashback of when I was the first/only woman doing field work for a certain federal agency.

We "field officers" for our district were at a regional briefing session and that night after work gathered in one fellow's motel room for drinks and a bull session. Also present was my immediate supervisor--a real sweetie.

The guys talked about a peer who had turned down an important promotion because it would have meant leaving the town where his family had many connections and also leaving his rose garden, which was his hobby. They were scorning his "lack of ambition" and his sentimentality.

I piped up, "We all want to do a good job, of course, to deliver an honest day's work for a good program and also for our personal pride. But when life is nearly over, and you look back, aren't the most important things the people you love and who love you--and the roses you've planted?"

When I started, my supervisor was kicking me furiously under the table. But when I finished, there was a silence, and all the guys I think were grateful to drop the macho bull for once.

After a pause the most senior (in rank) man there (who had recently suffered a heart attack) said "You're right, Barbara." And I felt I had made a contribution to them and a contribution to women in the workplace.

Jo, I want to add loving thoughts, prayers, Blessing and Light to you, Chris, and your family in the hope that there is a simple reason for Chris's experience and that it's a one-time occurence.

You are so right Barbara, authenticity and being recognized for your authentic self is a constant refrain in my job from both men and women, especially the younger generations and it's having an impact on the older generations of men and women. After women started demanding and getting some maternity leave with the expectation of being able to return, men started asking for maternity leave, they wanted to be home with their young children, they wanted family leave and I know many corporations that give men and women that family leave. Just in the last three years we are finding men actively taking the role of being coaches and mentors to women in the work place, supporting and moving them into leadership positions and are learning a great deal themselves and implementing what they learn. Some companies (not many but some) have day care on site so parents can be close to their pre-schoolers, have lunch with them, etc. One huge international American company I know have hired consultants to teach women and men to understand the differences in emotional responses to situations between the genders. Under the radar, there are some exciting things happening in corporations, and a lot of it has to do with wanting to be more authentic and how to express yourself safely. CEO's are more concerned with their ethics in the wake of the Enron type scandals, and they are asking for that kind of training. I see lots of good things as we move toward a balance between the sexes and shared leadership. Absolutely there is a long way to go, but we have still come a long way.

I had the CEO of one massive international corporation say to me "well if we give our women leadership training will they become uppity and want more." I said "yes, they will want more, you will have to give more and you will get more." he signed up and has become a strong advocate for women as leaders and has moved women into those positions. He had a daughter who went to work for a California corp. run by a friend of his, his daughter (who graduated from Princton) was being marginalized and passed over and complained about the agressive male culture at her firm. He pooh poohed it and said she was imagining things, and he flew out there. What he found so angered him he came back a feminist and advocate for women leaders. It was pretty funny.

Now back to Bush, I don't want to be the kind of person who takes pleasure in someone else's "karma" catching up, because it happens to all of us and it's hard, no matter who you are. But I am getting a giggle out of these falling poll numbers. He has transiting Jupiter on his Jupiter and it will soon sextile his Venus and that hasn't given him a bounce. I did read that he was going to Saudi Arabia, and that's not good news, makes me wonder what kind of deals he plans on making with the House of Saud.

TONY Blair is expected to join one of the most exclusive groups of businessmen in the world after he leaves Downing Street.
The PM is being lined up for a highly lucrative position with the Carlyle Group - an American-based investment giant with strong links to the White House and the defence industry.
The firm has been nicknamed "The Ex-Presidents Club" because it has had a host of former world leaders on its books including George Bush Senior, his former secretary of state James Baker and former British PM John Major. There a also a large number of former US Army top brass.

Mr Blair has been keeping quiet about his plans after his departure from Number 10 - which could be as early as 2007 according to some Labour insiders.
But sources in the City have revealed that he is "seriously considering" a high-profile role with Carlyle - which manages $30billion (£20million) of investments worldwide.
The job could net Mr Blair up to £500,000 a year for only a few days work a month giving speeches and making "networking" trips on behalf of the company.
The move comes after it emerged that the premier's financial affairs are in an increasingly perilous stateŠ

Has anyone else picked up on the sense of extreme rot and decay in this country as I suddenly have these past few days? I don't know what it is, and I've known about it all for so long. But it just seems like it really came into focus for me a few days ago.

Not to be crude, but to me, it's as if our government and infrastructure (physical, as well as social and spiritual) has become as a bloated corpse, festering with vermin, disease and decay. It's a dead body sitting much like the proverbial elephant does, in everyone's living room. But despite the horribly bad stench, people still keep on watching TV and act as if it isn't even there.

Interesting take on Cindy Sheehan on Stariq.com. Wolfstar places her Mars in Leo on the US MC. He uses Scorpio rising for his chart.

Also an interesting take on Hammas born 8/18/88 in Gaza. I'm going to try and do a comparison between Hammas and the US and Hammas and Israel's chart. Certainly is a frightening chart...Mars in it's own sign and Pluto in it's own sign in 150 aspect.

I think that the more we keep writing these newspapers complaining, the more we keep a cactus up the proverbial ass of these spineless media vortexes of fear, the more they will start to become part of the solution. We are working on many fronts now...we are the lionesses bringing down the huge beast by attacking all flanks when ever we can.

I was just flipping channels, and saw that a Canadian Broadcast was on a channel....it used BBC and Al Jazeera footage of muslim extremists including the one in London who is recruiting via the internet....they showed various recruiting films and said that 4K to 10K terrorists sites are on the internet and as fast as one is shut down, it pops up again....and MOST of them are here in the US...

Then the segment ended, and what was I watching? Why it was good ol boy Pat Robertson's 700 club! yikes.

A great deal of them were ours, that 8.8 billion "misplaced" doesn't even include what Halliburton has ripped off the Taxpayers. As far as Pat Robertson, he has oil interests in Venezuela and Chavez is "stiring up" the poor and they want some of the oil money from the fields they work. If there is anything the elite is opposed to it would be anyone making the poor unhappy with their poverty and Roberts fashions himself one of the elite.

Dreadful gas prices are inevitable, Cybear. If the national average right now is about $2.50, three times that would be a whopping $7.50 per gallon!!

Oil -- or the cheap production of it -- is no small part of the stinking corpse sitting in the living room which no one wishes to talk about, that I mentioned earlier.

People keep driving their gas-guzzling SUVs, charge the latest steep increase to their credit cards and pray that the price comes down to a more reasonable $1.99 or so before Thanksgiving. Maybe it won't be the $3.22 or so per gallon I saw in a dream about that time, a couple of weeks ago. Lots of very angry people in that dream, too.

And the government passes an energy bill that requires auto makers to increase the average fuel economy from 21 to a whopping 23 MPG! Not in two months. In two years!

Hydrogen cars? Maybe in 20 years. Until then, try bikes, scooters, and trains if you have them -- and say a big "thank you" Ford Motors, Firestone Rubber & Tire and National City Bank if you don't.

Neptune may still be in Aquarius, and Pluto might not yet be in Capricorn, but reality is here now, and will be banging increasingly more loudly upon Americans' doors.

In is own sad way Robertson is making a backwards point about Iraq. If our "revised reason" for staying in Iraq was to get rid of Saddam - why did it cost $200 billion dollars? In a way Robertson is saying "no big wars" and don't draft the kids. Coming from the right it's a warning sign to the administration to rethink statements about using military force on Iran.

NEOBuckeye: Peak oil will create opportunities and spur innovation. If the big auto companies don't adapt you'll see a new generation of companies grow to take their place. Cars that run on gas today will be seen as "a clunky mainframe computer". You know at the start of the 20th century oil accounted for a very small percentage of fuel - it's only natural that it should be replaced over time. In 100 years the notion of a car using oil will seem as silly as we would think of a car powered by firewood.

Michael...good point about the innovation in transportation brought on by the stupidity and greed of mankind....but I am more worried about the devastation NOW....not 100 years from now. Actually that was a quote from someone at camp, not me. It would be great if you could get there and give us a report. Apparently people are bringing and sharing everything in a glorious spirit of generosity. That alone would be worth the trip. I experienced that when I traveled in India.. a complete communal atmosphere, multi ethnic, national, and racial, the sharing of money included.... and I will carry that memory forever.

I used to think grains, dried beans, and canned food lasted indefinitely, then read that they all have a specific shelf life that is not all that long.

Those foodstuffs last a long time.

This whole country needs to reduce. The loss of weight in each vehicle would cut fuel costs, medical care would be needed less, the streets and highways would get less wear and tear, less fabric for clothing would be required, less toilet paper, less water, floors and carpets would last longer, chairs wouldn't break, mattresses would last, shoes would last, knees would work, we'd have more breath, and all of our structures would be happy and long lived.

Michael -- Judi G hit what I am concerned about. We know the technology and the capability exists for us to finally move past oil onto bigger and better things. But it's the getting there that is the Big Problem.

Humanity is notorious through the ages for managing ourselves through "cliffhanger crisises". But we may have reached a critical junction in history at this time where that is no longer enough. What's worse is that we saw the energy crisis coming years ago, and chose instead to do nothing about it, instead of taking the small but necessary steps then to avert massive upheaval later on down the road.

But here we are, on the verge of an unprecedented energy crisis, and not even fully awake yet (excluding AWers) to face it properly.

Wow! I bookmarked the page to follow the joke celebrity rant we book people emailed around called 'Mommy Why Does My Picturebook Suck". Looks like it's self-published and only reviews are from customers. Don't think Publisher's Weekly or School Library Journal will touch this trash for review.
I am one of the judge's for a 2006 prestigious award for book illustration and this would get 4 big sucks from me. The illustrations look really bad.

For some real fun my picturebook historian friend recently emailed that you can find a circumcised penis and a pubic hair in 'Runaway Bunny' and it was most likely illustrated by the author's suggestion.

CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts The human cost of the more than 2,000 American military personnel killed and 14,500 wounded so far in Iraq and Afghanistan is all too apparent. But the financial toll is still largely hidden from public view and, like the suffering of those who have lost loved ones, will persist long after the fighting is over.

The cost goes well beyond the more than $250 billion already spent on military operations and reconstruction. Basic running costs of the current conflicts are $6 billion a month - a figure that reflects the Pentagon's unprecedented reliance on expensive private contractors.

Other factors keeping costs high include inducements for recruits and for military personnel serving second and third deployments, extra pay for reservists and members of the National Guard, as well as more than $2 billion a year in additional foreign aid to Jordan, Pakistan, Turkey and others to reward their cooperation in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The bill for repairing and replacing military hardware is $20 billion a year, according to figures from the Congressional Budget Office.

But the biggest long-term costs are disability and health payments for returning troops, which will be incurred even if hostilities were to stop tomorrow. The United States currently pays more than $2 billion in disability claims per year for 159,000 veterans of the 1991 Gulf war, even though that conflict lasted only five weeks, with 148 dead and 467 wounded.

Even assuming that the 525,000 American troops who have so far served in Iraq and Afghanistan will require treatment only on the same scale as their predecessors from the Gulf war, these payments are likely to run at $7 billion a year for the next 45 years.

The re-election of George Bush by the American people as spoken to the urgency/legitimacy that this issue is not."

My apologies for not answering judi. Neppy on my Moon has me missing details. I think of something then hear that exact word on TV or the radio that moment. But the details of things are lost in the Neptunian fog.

I usually go to the bottom of 'extended chart selections' on astro.com. There is a blue link that opens up a glossary of 12,000 asteroid names and their code #s.

Then I go back to the first page and punch in the code #s into the little box under the box with the Vertex, Ceres, Juno, etc. I set the chart to 'natal and current transits', that is in the first box on the top. It'll give you the current placement of the asteriods.

Also playing a ponying cowgirl seahorse as the ladies go surfing on the bar to Pipeline. Get to wear a psychedelic miniskirt and cowboy hat. I'm so excited and the hula moves are so spiritual, there's been a real shift in my energy, a goddess awakening as god/dess power within the human body, a moving meditation. Merc retro really did me in and i usually skate as my natal merc is retrograde. i've done all the wrong things during mercury retrograde; bought vehicles, signed contracts etc and it has been fine. I guess i was living on borrowed time as i paid the price this transit and carted two truckloads of electrical equipment/appliances to the landfill.

As a doctor of homoeopathic medicine i have noted that the more sensitive the person the more responsive to medicine. (All influences really) This makes them especially good candidates for homoeopathic treatment. Perhaps your daughter will conisider this an opportunity to look into homoeopathy for the treatment of Chris' allergies and the underlying cause of them?

Settling All Family Business

The Badr Organization -- the party militia of the Iranian-backed Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq -- moved against its enemies on several fronts today, possibly triggering the start of a full-scale civil war in Iraq.

Pat C - Yes , I am having extremely bad feelings about where the protest are heading. I am trying to scrape up the gas money to get up there, but not this weekend. I have to help my mom move back to town, but I am going to try and get there next week. I think the whole freaking anti-war movement should show up at the evil bastard's place and just surround it.

Pat QofP - I too am having bad, bad feelings and I keep waking up at 12:22 am, I also tend to look at the clock during the day and it's 12:22. This has gone on off and on for years. A native american medicine man who I knew in the 90's said he also wakes up at 12:22am and feels that something bad will happen on that day, but not sure what year. Are we getting closer???

Can someone do a chart for 12/22 for this year through 2008. My guides are saying to get out of here, to run as far from here as I can. I live in Houston and if the refineries are hit....well, I am getting very concerned. I'm about 50 miles from that area so I don't think I am in too much danger unless it's a nuke, then the whole city will go up.

And here is something I do not tell too many. I have been called a Guardian to the Gateways, which means when anything negative is coming through the gates I feel it. My partner says that he wakes up all the time and I am having very intense arguments with something, but he does not understand what it is I am communicating with, but he says I am extremely agitated. Also, he said that lately he sees a very large Indian standing next to our bed. That's my guardian spirit who is watching over me/us. The nights that I am agitated my guardian is not around. Could be he is fighting something stronger somewhere else. My other two guides have been at my side almost constantly. One is a wolf and the other is a bear. The wolf has been snarling and the bear is on hits hind legs. My guardian spirit shows up as an eagle when I am being psychicly attacked. I thought these were my totems and a Shaman told me they are in fact my guides.

So please, please, please everyone, we must do everything we possibly can to turn this around so the truth is revealed. We are headed down a road that we do not want to go down. I have had visions during deep meditation and trance states that are very disturbing. One of which makes me very sick....BUSH IS THE MOST EVIL BEING ON THE EARTH AT THIS POINT IN TIME. All of the others that surround him are his handlers and protectors.
He must by all means be removed from power...That is the only way we wil trun this around.

His eyes were black saucers and he laughed as the death and destruction surrounded him. I saw many tortured souls crying out in pain and screaming for help. The last image was a mushroom cloud. Lori - Some have been exact, some have been similar. It's wierd how the info flows. My prediction/vision in the late eighties about a bombing in New York came about years later. That really freaked my friends out. I did not "see" 911 happening, but I felt it in my bones before it did. When it happened I almost passed out at work, I was shaking almost uncontrollably. My co-workers at the time were freaking.
