The Albatross
Like the albatross that hung heavily around the neck of the Ancient Mariner, the second Gulf War, borne in deceit and managed with criminal stupidity, hangs mercilessly around the neck of the Bush administration. In Coleridge’s famous poem, the albatross appears as a divine messenger, sent to a ship of suffering sailors in the ruthless, icy-winded North, to bring them back to their true path on a warm and friendly sea. In a moment of thoughtlessness and hubris, however, the Ancient Mariner shoots and kills the albatross, bringing instead a long nightmare of death and destruction to the hapless ship. In the aftermath of 9/11, the goodness of the world rose up, like the heavenly-sent albatross in the poem, to bring its blessing to America during her darkest hour, offering a window of opportunity for healing and for the furtherance of worldwide unity and justice, as well as a possibility for a united stand against the viciousness of terrorism. But George Bush shattered that window with his invasion of Iraq just as surely as the Ancient Mariner shot the albatross with his crossbow, and now he, like the Mariner, carries the choking weight of his misdeeds amidst the death and destruction of what he has wrought. As things stand now in Iraq, the insurgency is growing stronger and its weapons more deadly. This is clearly demonstrated by the recent surge in casualties and the expansion of targets to include Shiite civilians and politicians. The country totters dangerously on the brink of civil war, if it has not already fallen off the cliff. Uranus is the planet of sudden, disruptive, and explosive transformation, as well as the planet of rebellion against perceived domination and tyranny. Very active in the 1921 Iraqi chart during the past few years, Uranus’ recent movement gives a pretty clear indication of how events in the Second Gulf War have unfolded thus far. First, during the initial invasion, Uranus opposed the Iraqi Sun and squared its MC, both symbolic of the country’s ruler. Saddam was deposed and the ruling elite torn from power during this early transit. This phase ended when Saddam was captured during the final crossing of Uranus opposite the Iraqi Sun in December 2003. During most of 2004 through January 2005, Uranus hovered around the Descendant of the Iraqi chart, thus opposing the Ascendant, and continuing its enormously disruptive influence, including significant chaos and pockets of enraged rebellion. Now, in its final phase, Uranus is conjunct its natal place in the Iraqi chart, and the deeper yearnings of the people for freedom, both from the occupation and from any perceived oppression by fellow Iraqis of a different sect, is being loudly proclaimed by the increasing intensity of the insurgency. In 1861, the US Civil War began with a “Uranus return” in the US chart followed by a transit of Uranus across the Descendant. Currently, the potential for an Iraqi civil war is marked by the same planetary aspect. The crossing of Uranus to natal Uranus in the Iraqi chart will continue through the first half of January 2006, with particular intensity coming between late August and September 22, 2005 and December 7, 2005, through January 10, 2006. These may be particularly agitated times in Iraq, with demands for freedom and self-determination coming from all quarters. The level of instability and rebellion may not begin to diminish until after mid-January, 2006. Besides the Iraqi chart, the chart for the Second Gulf War has been an important indicator of conditions in the past two years. In particular, it points to the ongoing power struggles, lack of coherence, and missteps that have hounded the war from its inception. In an article written on March 21, 2003, just after the war began, I wrote: The chart for Gulf War II is drawn for when the first bombs were dropped, on March 20, 2003, at 5:33 AM in Baghdad. The most significant feature in this chart is the Pluto conjunction with the Midheaven opposing the Saturn conjunction with the Nadir, suggestive of an overwhelming power taking full and brutal control of the situation, polarized by the crushing sorrow, suffering, and sullen resistance at its roots – the Iraqi people… …The VOC Sun position here suggests that the thrust of war could lead to unexpected and unwanted results. It is as if the goal (Sun) of the chart is no longer anchored in an organized and logical reality. There is an inherent weakness or flaw in the entire venture that can lead to a weakened, confusing, or disjointed outcome. In addition, the 29-degree Pisces Sun squares the Pluto /Saturn opposition mentioned above. Thus, the goals of the war (the Sun) are continually in a tension relationship with the US military aggression and assumption of power (Pluto/MC), as well as with the suffering and intense resistance of the people (Saturn/IC). Currently, the Gulf War chart suggests a continuation of the intense battle for dominance and the vicious power struggles that accompany it through at least through November 2005, while transiting Pluto concludes its year-long opposition to Gulf War Saturn followed by its crossing of progressed Gulf War Midheaven. The situation is then further complicated by the difficulties described in the chart for the election of the National Assembly, drawn for January 30, 2005. The coming Saturn station will be exactly opposite the Sun in the National Assembly chart from October 9 through December 23, 2005. This could indicate that there is an extreme impasse as the year wanes regarding either the impending Iraqi constitution or some other serious difficulty encountered by the National Assembly. In addition, the very incendiary Pluto/Mars conjunction in National Assembly chart will, for the first time, be exact by transit during all of December 2005, indicating the potential for a huge, angry rupture in December. It should be pointed out that this is simultaneous to the final phase of the Uranus return in Iraq’s chart (rebellion) mentioned above, that runs from December 7, 2005 through January 10, 2006 Conceivably, somewhere on or around January 11, 2006, after weeks of struggle and unending turf battles, things will calm down as these transits pass and the next phase in Iraq begins to take a clearer form. Beginning in Spring 2006, Uranus will strike again, but this time not in the Iraqi chart but in the US chart, square to the Ascendant, from late March through early September 2006. This suggests something unexpected and powerful will change the direction of US policy around that time. One indication of what this might mean comes from the transit of Uranus across the Ascendant of the Gulf War chart from April 28 through July 1, 2006. This would seem to indicate a very dramatic shift in the activities of the war, including the potential for a huge evacuation of American soldiers. Simultaneously, George Bush will be under the final phase of Saturn crossing his Ascendant, Mercury, and Pluto, from May 21 through July 4, indicating the president is pursuing policies that are not to his liking but may be taking into account some hard cold realities on the ground. The third planetary configuration of interest during this period is the Pluto transit quincunx Inaugural IC/solar arc progressed Saturn, from early May through the first half of June 2006. The Inaugural IC/solar arc Saturn progression, from February 2006 through February 2007, indicates a sense of failure in the administration and a deep sense of loss. This will be triggered by the Pluto quincunx in May and June. Given Bush’s rather painful acknowledgement of reality and enforced contraction of goals (Saturn/Ascendant/Mercury), the sense of failure in the administration (Saturn/Inaugural IC), and the major transformation and shift in the Gulf War chart (Uranus/Ascendant), it could well be that Bush is forced out of Iraq by the newly created government and left with a huge sense of defeat regarding his long term goals and the loss of those much-desired military bases on Iraqi soil. The final phase of our departure from Iraq could well be from January to March 2007 when Uranus crosses the Gulf War chart Ascendant for the final time, squares the US Ascendant for the final time, and the Gulf War progressed Moon crosses Pluto and then the Midheaven of the chart, the latter aspect being a sure sign of change.

Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Posted by: Janet on August 9, 2005 02:49 AMWonderful column, Nancy. The albatross analogy is so good....... Posted by: Teg on August 9, 2005 03:01 AMDay after day, day after day, Water, water, everywhere, I've missed it over here. I have been so busy with mynew blog I haven't had time to come and visit. What is interesting in the albatross story is that it is actually a story of redemption. When the Mariner sees some fish (after everyone else has died on the ship) he feels great love for God and His creations, and then all the dark energy changes and the Mariner is redeemed. The albatross falls off from around his neck. This, of course, is where the story divereges from Bush, who would never be able to take the huge steps (deeds of real love for humanity) necessary to heal what he has broken. Posted by: Nancy on August 9, 2005 03:15 AMnancy, the comparisoin of bush to the captain who shoots the albatros is such a powerful metaphor, i'm nearly at a loss for words. beautiful and chilling at the same time, it is magnificent! when all is said and done, we will have fought this war of aggression to ensure that the iraqi people have a moslem fundamentalist government for decades. one of the ironies will be the role of women. under saddam, women were actually allowed to engage in the world of commerce and there were several interesting businesses run by women. they were looking forward to more fredom under our rule. someone forgot to tell them that iraq would have the muslim equivalent of "the promise keepers" from our land. sorry about that. you said: "Beginning in Spring 2006, Uranus will strike again, but this time not in the Iraqi chart but in the US chart, square to the Ascendant, from late March through early September 2006. This suggests something unexpected and powerful will change the direction of US policy around that time." i suspect all us policy. bush is a terribly wounded leader right now. he's dropping fast and the macro view of the economy is not that bad. i guess people are sick and tired of the lies. the newsweek story shows that now even the wash. post company (owner of newsspeak) is on board with bush bashing. bye bye bush. it will happen and the uncovering process will open our eyes to the point that we will be forced to see all the violence and theft that is part of our foreign policy (e.g., The World Bank). Wonderful stuff Posted by: mike on August 9, 2005 03:38 AMMany, many thanks for posting the albatross theme here with us, Nancy. Very nicely done, of course, and much for us to hang onto. At the same time, I feel that we are the ones with an albatross around our neck (Smirky&Co) and I'm still p.o.'d at the 59-something million who voted them in (if indeed they did and the machines didn't do the deed). It must come to pass that the stinking albatross will fall from our necks and we can sail on into fresher, calmer, safer waters. Posted by: shylurker on August 9, 2005 03:42 AMThere is some very intense stuff coming up. I am quite worried about that Winter Solstice chart in December. Mars and Saturn are in a tight square, with Mars pretty close to the US Ascendant. It gets triggered by first Mars, then Saturn and Mars, and then just Saturn, altogether from 12/21 through 1/12/06. I was already worried about the Mars Saturn square with both Mars and Saturn moving so slowly and in square to each other. Now they are also triggering the same configuration in the Solstice chart, on an angle, in DC. I hate to say it, but I don't rule out terrorism, especially on December 26 when the Moon joins the configuration. There is enough Saturn ongoing to imply upset for a period afterwards which is what you get with something so awful. If not terrorism here, there will be some intense crises going on elsewhere. Bolton will be in cirsis mode over at the UN with Pluto on his Mars at the same time. This will be a difficult Christmas season. My understandng of the Ingress charts is that you draw them up for the capital of the country to understand how that quarter year will be for that country. Does anyone know if you can just draw them for a location to find out about that location? If so, I would watch the area around Trenton, NJ to maybe Staten Island, NY (?the ferry?). That is where the Mars Saturn square will hit the Solstice chart Ascendant on or around 12/26 and 12/27. Concerning military plans, there have always been contingency plans in the US at major installations for crisis reaction to WMD attacks. In most cases, they were not taken seriously or buried in the file cabinets until required for review. Until 9-11, Posse Comitatus was used as an excuse to avoid the extra work. And meanwhile, Citizen Spook is ON FIRE with good news---read the latest blog(Aug. 8th), you'll be glad you did: Heavens, Garry. So interesting about the power of the grand jury. And Bush's insistence on being a wartime President might be just the ticket. Could his little war turn out to be that big? There are a couple of possibilities. Maybe in true criminal fashion they wanted to go beyond Iran Contra to a bigger crime and the WMD scam was it. So they outed Plame to keep the scam intact. Now it seems they didn't quite pull it off. I'm trying to piece this together in clarity. The question has come up as to how these people in power in our country now can be brought down and their treason revealed. They are giving information to other countries it seems, and are part of a huge operation. The way this could happen is if there are double agents within the group, and there is enough power in the faction against them to do the job. We'll have to see. Much food for thought here and I like the elegant way you came full circle and brought the theme back to the Albatross at the end. To me, this is not a clearcut situation and never has been. Probably in some way, Saadam was supporting terrorists, even if he didn't have WMD. I don't know how exactly but I think the U.S. had a somewhat simplistic plan to just go into the mideast, destroy terrorist enclaves where they can find them and those who support them, and get the financial benefit while we're at it. It was a stupid plan but it has been the way the U.S. governments have though for a long time. Bush and the Neocoms seem more agressive than most, but how would Clinton or another president have responded to 911? The problem remains though that, assuming that 911 was not an inside job, what do we about terrorism and those who want to destroy us? The larger problem is that there are way too many on earth that want to live by the sword. However, it is a case of what came first, our sword or your sword. Just thought I'd lay those thoughts out on the table as I don't really feel there is a clearcut answer. If there were, Kerry might have had one. Allow me to try a response, for I think there is indeed a clear cut answer to the problem of terrorism. First, let me say that I think there obviously is a problem of terrorism even if 9/11 was to some extent an inside job, and even if there is some truth to the thesis of the BBC documentary The Power of Nightmares, which claims that the threat of terrorism has been largely created by the powers that be to further their hegemonic agenda. The short answer to the problem of terrorism is, first, to treat acts of terrorism as criminal acts to be dealt with under the framework of law, and secondly, not to excerbate the problem of terrorism by committing acts of terrorism ourselves. Once it really sinks in just how unnecessary and unjustified the Iraq war is, it is hard not to see the slaughter of up to 100,000 innocents civilians an act of terror that dwarfs the tragedy of 9/11. I've recently read an article "The War on Terrorism and the End of Human Rights" by a philosopher named David Luban. It is unfortunately not online so I cannot post a link, and I don't want to take up too much bandwidth to adequately summarize. His main point is that in treating acts of terrorism as a pretext for war, the Bush Administration has conflated the model of war with the model of law, and this has not only undermined human rights it has made the problem of terrorism worse. There is a problem of terrorism, but the whole "War on Terrorism" is a fraud and a disaster for all of us. Posted by: Timothy on August 9, 2005 06:44 PMAnd Jo's point is right on--Bush has only created more terrorists. Another point Luban makes is that "The War on Terrorism" is by definition unwinnable. When could the mission ever really be accomplished?--only when all the terrorists have been killed, and this, clearly, could never be accomplished. The best step we could make in responding to the problem of terrorism is to stop participating in terrorism ourselves. Posted by: Timothy on August 9, 2005 06:53 PMYaaaay, Timothy! Posted by: Jonathan on August 9, 2005 09:54 PMTerry, I find your comments most interesting. Most of us on this site attack the government of these united states 24/7... you have not raised the question of whether or not we are anti-American. But if we speak of what the government of Israel is doing, then we are attacking a small country. Yes, I am well aquainted with maps. I know the size of the State of Israel. None of that has anything to do with the policies being propagated by the Likud Party in general and Ariel Sharon in particular. Fundamentalists in this country support Geo. W. Bush because they see him as having a direct line to God. Other fundamentalists in this country support Ariel Sharon because they believe he is protecting Israelis. Hate is not an exclusive commodity... I believe the subject of the Middle East and our involvement there is open to debate... and find it regretable that you feel as you do. Historically, I am reminded of the genocide committed in this country, when white Europeans came to live. They did not feel comfortable amongst the huge populace of the Native Americans. The remedy for it was to push them out, in order to "be safe"... well, they are 'out' --- they are a small minority in this country now. And still, Americans do not feel "safe". So, we have invaded a country that posed no threat to us. We killed Iraqis. We sent our children to die. Some of us ask why? Cindy Sheehan would like to know why her son died... why he is not home, "safe". You stated "This website is suppose to be a pargon of spirtual values." I'm sorry - I didn't get that memo. I thought this was a site for Political Astrological Insight and Prediction: Mundane Astrology. Let me see now... one can't discuss Israel at dKos; or Liberal Street Fighter; or DU or almost any site online without encountering this response. Peace and harmony is not achieved by silence... or by censure. In the 1970s I was serving in public office. I was told I could not mention "Nixon" or any doubts about him. I was a Republican back then (when I was young and foolish). But I did not remain silent. And I won't now. Members of AIPAC have been indicted. There are more indictments to come. We shall see what comes of those indictments, and others. I profess bewilderment at the perception of "anti Israeli diatribe" on this site. Jonathan, I remember you mentioning this some time ago, and I believe just prior to that there was a spate of intense posts regarding that country (read: that country's governance). On this particular thread, unless I've forgotten something I read above, there is ONE post mentioning Israel, and in fact, that very post clarifies that the word "Israel" is to mean "Likkud Party." In all seriousness, (and Jonathan, your prior posts' point taken) will Jonathan and Terry both please explain to me why one person's dislike of the Likkud party equates a board full of people who hate all Israelis (and does "Israeli" mean "Jew?" Am I correct or incorrect that there are non-Jews living in Israel? I mean other than Palestinians. And I'll forgo comment on the 20th century history of that chunk of earth we call Israel. AND for good measure, let me say that while I despise what the US Republican Party appears to be today, I also think that some (the ones we hear virtually nothing about these days) "conservative" ideas are good ones. Just so you know that I'm looking at each miniscule piece and not a group of any sort. OK?) Posted by: Lori on August 9, 2005 10:19 PMThanks, Jo. You say it all so well. I really hesitate to say write on this subject because I know somebody's going to slam me, but I really believe the situation is unjust and the U.S. ensures that it stays that way. There seem to be a lot of Israelis who criticize their government's treatment of the Palestinians too. OK for them to do it, but not for me? It may take 2 to dance, but this isn’t a dance, it’s an extremely unequal struggle and to say otherwise is almost farcical. The Israelis ensure the Palestinian economy is barely worthy to be called an economy. They hamstring the Palestinians every movement, make sure they have to wait at checkpoints for hours to go to the store, never mind get to jobs. Palestinians live in terrible conditions without much of a way out. Sharon’s wall is a poorly disguised land grab. I deplore the suicide bombers, but seems like a lot more Palestinians get killed than Israelis. Plus get their meager homes bulldozed. The U.S. gives more foreign aid money to Israel than to any other country by far, and much is made of the fact that Israel is the only democracy in the region. But they don’t believe in religious freedom. They say their country exists for members of one faith. In fact, the most orthodox believers seem to get the most “equal” rights. I don’t believe in unequal treatment on the basis of religion. I don't want the U.S. to give this kind of country the huge amounts of money we do. Gee, Terry. If you have something positive to say about AIPAC, why not just say it, and back it up with facts and astrology? That, it would seem to me, would be much more constructive than putting down a discussion forum in general. There are no paragons here, as far as I know. ............ Bigger Than AIPAC Important new details of the US-Israeli espionage case involving Larry Franklin, the alleged Pentagon spy, 2 officials of the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee, & an intelligence official at the Embassy of Israel emerged last wk. Two AIPAC officials—who have left the org—were indicted along with Franklin on charges of "communicat[ing] natl defense info to persons not entitled to receive it." In plain English, if not legal-speak, that means spying. But as the full text of the indictment makes clear, the conspiracy involved not just Franklin & the AIPAC officials, Steve Rosen & Keith Weissman, but at least several other Pentagon officials who played intermediary roles, at least 2 other Israeli officials, & one official at a "Wash DC think tank." It's an old-fashioned spy story involving the passing of secret documents, hush-hush mtgs & outright espionage, along with good-old-boy networking. But the network tied to the "Franklin case"—which ought to be called the "AIPAC case," since it was AIPAC that was really under investigation by the FBI—provides an important window into a shadowy world. It is clear that by probing the details of the case, the FBI has got hold of a dangerous loose end of much larger story. By pulling on that string hard enuf, the FBI & the Justice Dept might just unravel that larger story, which is beginning to look more & more like it involves the same nexus of Pentagon civilians, WH functionaries, & American Enterprise Institute officials who thumped the drums for war in Iraq in 2001-2003 & who are now trying to whip up an anti-Iranian frenzy as well. Needless to say, all of this got short shrift from the mainstream media when it was revealed last wk. ... con't http://www.tompaine.com/articles/20050809/bigger_than_aipac.php Of course, now Rummy is claiming they've found Iranian-made WMDs in Iraq. Ted Lang But what is even more absurd, and even more outrageous than the simple treason perpetrated by our government against "We the People," is that most of the money used to buy our government out from under US was our own money to begin with! Ten to twenty billion of our taxpayer dollars gets shipped to Israel annually! And Israel determines our foreign policy! They have a stooge in the White House and many more in the United States Congress that are selling US out to advance the interests of Israel and the New World Order http://www.patriotist.com/tlarch/tl20040719.htm I don't think we can get anywhere in the world if we use repression of speech as a basis of communications (however it seems to work well in sparking people to defy those restrictions, huh JO?)....and hasn't anyone noticed how the roles change ever 40 years or so? By Wayne Madsen The presence in the United States of a number of young Israelis, most of whom had specialized military and intelligence backgrounds, in the months prior to 911 is a subject that has received inadequate attention from the major U.S. media and government investigators. The activities of the Israelis fell into two main areas: the casing of the offices and homes of Federal law enforcement officials, U.S. military bases, and other sensitive sites by Israeli “art students” during 2000 and 2001 and the unusual activities of Israeli “movers” around sensitive areas during and after 911. These incidents occurred in tandem with the suspiscious activities of other former Israeli military and intelligence officials in neighboring countries, including Canada and Mexico, after 911. In addition, a number of Israeli intelligence agents were apprehended abroad for passport violations and other illegal activities. The possibility that the suspicious Israeli activity was linked to the movements of Al Qaeda cells cannot be brushed aside as merely coincidental. For example, a number of the Israelis arrested for suspicious activities involving selling bogus Israeli art and driving moving vans were concentrated in some of the same neighborhoods where a number of the 911 Saudi and other Arab hijackers lived and trained at flight schools http://www.waynemadsenreport.com/Artstudents.htm imho, there are a handful (3,000 give or take a few) of people on this planet who have megabucks... they have no allegiance to country, no allegiance to ideology... no allegiance to the planet... their allegiance is to MONEY. They do what is necessary to get more MONEY... because they believe that gives them power. Their real objective is power. These folks are the enemy, the 'dark side' if you will. [That's not a conspiracy theory; it's an observation about human nature. There are those who want more than they need, more than they will ever need. They are probably fixated on the 'need' to gain power just as an addict is on the need to get their drug of choice.] Their objective is to divide us, create enemies amongst us... to conquer us... to reduce our numbers. They use labels, disinformation, black psych ops, anything... to achieve their goals. They use religion, skin color, sexual orientation, gender, age --- whatever. You name it, they use it to divide us. It is not the fundamentalists who are our enemy. They are the pawns for those who seek power. It's true whether they are jihadist or christian or zionist. The events of 9/11 were acts of terrorism. Invading Iraq was an act of terrorism. Timothy McVeigh was a terrorist. KKK members are terrorists. Terrorists come in all colors and nationalities. "They" want us to kill each other. "They" believe there are already too many children and too many seniors who need healthcare; too many people without shelter.... "they" need slaves, but not as many as we presently number. There, you have seen my tin-foil hat in all its glory. Crawford, Texas - More members of Gold Star Families for Peace (GSFP) and Military Families Speak Out (MFSO) are traveling to Texas to join the protest outside of President Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas, where he is vacationing for the month of August. Starting today, Gold Star families from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Arkansas and other states whose loved ones have died as a result of the war in Iraq will be joining one of their members, Cindy Sheehan, at the protest. Ms. Sheehan, whose son Army Specialist Casey Sheehan was killed in Sadr City, Iraq on April 4, 2004, has been in Crawford since August 5th, demanding a meeting with the President. These families will be joined by military families with loved ones currently serving in Iraq or about to deploy or redeploy to Iraq. All of these families are coming to Crawford, Texas to share their stories about the personal costs of the war in Iraq and add their voices to the call for a meeting with President Bush. http://www.truthout.org/docs_2005/080905Q.shtml Posted by: Morgana on August 10, 2005 12:49 AMjudi gemini, Please tell me how I was out of line! Michael Kohlhaas - My heart goes out to you going over there into the trenches. The Prime Minister of Israel Ariel Sharon told US Congressmen visiting Israel that Iran, Libya and Syria are irresponsible states and should be stripped of weapons of mass destruction after Iraq. Sharon was also reported to have met with US Undersecretary of State John Bolton to whom he expressed his concerns about the security threat posed by Iran and how important it is for America to deal with Iran even while attention is focused on Iraq. No Doubt America Will Attack Iraq Bolton, who is Undersecretary for Arms Control and International Security told Israeli officials he had no doubt America would attack Iraq and that it would be necessary to deal with the threats from Syria, Iran and North Korea. Bolton was reportedly in Israel for meetings on preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction which seems strange in that Israel whose leaders have consistently refused to sign the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, deliberately deceived US nuclear power plant inspectors during the 1960s, hijacked a French cargo ship laden with uranium ore and secretly developed, not only a large nuclear arsenal, but also the means to accurately deliver nuclear warheads anywhere in Asia, Africa and Europe. http://www.coastalpost.com/03/03/02.htm Posted by: wv on August 10, 2005 03:44 AM
Pentagon Iran desk officer and neo-con patsy Larry Franklin was arrested on May 4, on charges that he passed classified information based upon secret Pentagon documents to two American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) officials in June 2003, at a restaurant in Arlington, Va. The two AIPAC officials, who were not named in the complaint, were Steve Rosen and Keith Weissman, who were both fired by AIPAC in recent weeks. A number of senior intelligence sources, reached for comment on the Franklin charges, all had the same essential reading: The FBI has a prima facie case against Franklin. In FBI raids on his home, Federal agents confiscated 83 classified documents, which he was not authorized to have there. The case is cut and dried, and a charge of mishandling classified documents carries a ten-year Federal jail sentence. Franklin is being squeezed to provide prosecutors with a complete picture on the AIPAC/Israel espionage operation, including Pentagon officials who were part of the effort. These include, but are not limited to: Doug Feith, William Luti, Harold Rhode, and Abram Shulsky. In addition, one source emphasized the importance of Franklin's December 2001 trip to Rome, accompanied by Rhode and Michael Ledeen. The trip centered around a meeting with former Iran-Contra swindler Manucher Ghorbanifar, whom Ledeen sought to reactivate as a Pentagon channel to the Iranian government, and as a source on activities inside Iraq and Afghanistan. The Rome trip coincided with the surfacing of the forged Niger government documents, falsely charging that Saddam Hussein was seeking large quantities of yellow cake uranium from the African nation. http://www.larouchepub.com/other/2005/3219franklin_arrest.html Follow the money...(someone is) http://www.belleville.com/mld/belleville/news/12341191.htm

Posted by: wv on August 10, 2005 04:19 AM WASHINGTON — Israeli efforts to secure swift American action against Iran’s nuclear program are being threatened by a stalled presidential nomination and the sudden dismissal of two officials at the country’s most influential pro-Israel lobbying organization. Last week the Forward and the Jewish Telegraphic Agency reported that the lobbying group, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, was pushing out two of its top officials — Steve Rosen, the organization’s policy director, and Keith Weissman, its senior analyst on Iran. The two men, who are reportedly being investigated by the FBI for allegedly passing classified documents to Israel, were Aipac’s point men in lobbying the White House on Iran-related issues. Also last week, with mounting opposition toward Bush’s choice of John Bolton to serve as America’s ambassador to the United Nations, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee postponed its vote on the nomination. A neoconservative ally of Vice President Richard Cheney and the State Department’s top official on arms control, Bolton is known as a strong supporter of Israel’s position that Tehran is coming alarmingly close to being able to weaponize its nuclear material — a view rejected by other top Bush administration officials.

Much of the world is worried about the impending war with Iraq, and rightly so. But this may just the beginning of a new age of disarmament wars. From the homeland of Armageddon this week came worrying signs that we should begin worrying about the even longer and harder wars to follow. John Bolton, U.S. Under Secretary of State for Disarmament Affairs and International Security, was in Israel this week, for meetings about "preventing the spread of weapons of mass destruction." It seems appropriate for the U.S. and Israel to meet about disarmament issues. After all, Israel is universally acknowledged by everyone--excepting the U.S. government--as a considerable nuclear power, and much of the world regards its prime minister as a profound threat to international security. However, we can be sure that neither item was on Bolton's agenda. http://www.fpif.org/commentary/2003/0302bolton_body.html Posted by: wv on August 10, 2005 04:32 AMyowser, the activist article connects a huge amount of dots. Sorry, but first lets be realists and look at many of the major players in all this: Wolfowitz, Perle, Feith, Leo Strauss (ideological godfather), Chertoff, Rabbi (!) Dov Zakheim (former Pentagon comptroller), Max Boot, William Kristol, Jonah Goldgerg, Wurmser, AIPAC members accused of espionage, etc., etc. We must ask the controversial/hard question: In the first instance do these people owe their allegiance to Israel or the U.S.? This is NOT an anti-Israel diatribe, because there are many sane, politically liberal/moderate Israelis who also detest the Neo-con cabal of both countries and who want Israel to adapt a more humane, realistic, non-aggressive stance toward the Palestinians and others. So I say politely and respectfully to all Astrowolders offended by what Ms. Gemini and others have to say, as I quote Harry Truman (a flawed but great American in my view) "if you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen!". Posted by: Grizzly on August 10, 2005 05:11 AMGrizzley, I ran the whole thing by a Jewish friend, and she was horrified that I would believe anything bad about Jews....and then I knew she didn't have a clue what I was talking about....so I sent your email to her...as it was so clear what it is we ARE talking about. Posted by: JoannaOregon on August 10, 2005 07:47 AMJudi Gemini, Unfortunately a lot of otherwise sane, rational, composed; even highly intelligent and intellectually sophisticated Jewish people just totally 'lose it' when anyone says something they perceive as even remotely critical of Israel/Jews/Jewish behavior. It is a reflex action which I have repeatedly witnessed first hand since childhood, even among some family members. I can of course sympathize with their oversensitivity because of the Jews' bad history, the Holocaust, etc. but that still in my opinion does not give ANYONE a 'free pass' to stick their heads in the sand and be in denial of such an obvious and blatant reality. Just like with all religious/national/ cultural/racial/ethnic/sexual orientation/gender/stereotypes, there are (at least) two sides to it; i.e. you have fantastic Jewish people like George Soros, Rob Reiner, Seymour Hersh, etc., and absolutely abominable Jewish people like Wolfowitz, Perle, Feith. The unvarnished truth for anyone willing to see it, remains that many extremely powerful and influential American (i.e. holding U.S. Passports) Jews are TRAITORS to the U.S. and the civilized international community, and extraordinarily dangerous to the entire planet. Were I empowered to do so, I would bring many of them up on espionage, treason, sedition, (and where appropriate war crimes) charges in a New York minute with absolutely zero remorse. Police say he's responsible for thousands of dollars in damage on at least 12 cars. Lt. Colonel Alexis Fecteau, 42, of Colorado Springs, turned himself in to Denver police Friday. snip Jackson said one of the detectives put out a bait car in late June, complete with a Bush/Cheney 2004 bumper sticker, in the west economy lot at DIA. On July 1st, with a security camera zoomed in to watch, an SUV drove by the bait car, and a short time later a man entered the scene. The man in the video appeared to spray paint something on the back of the car and then continued to do something on the side of the car. When officers returned to the bait car, the bumper sticker had been painted over and the words "F--- Bush" were spray-painted on the side of the car. In testimony before the Senate Armed Services Committee on June 23, General John Abizaid, head of Central Command, told the committee: “Maybe it’s something we’re not doing right in the field. But I can tell you that when my soldiers … ask me the question whether or not they’ve got support from the American people or not, that worries me. And they're starting to do that. So I would say we better have a frank discussion with ourselves. I am not against the debate.” Combined with Abizaid’s acknowledgement that the insurgent and resistance fighters in Iraq are as strong as they were six months ago, this statement is a remarkably candid warning to U.S. politicians that the present course of U.S. policy in Iraq is in trouble. "This year the Department of Defense will initiate an America Supports You Freedom Walk," Rumsfeld said, adding that the march would remind people of "the sacrifices of this generation and of each previous generation." The march will start at the Pentagon, where nearly 200 people died on 9/11, and end at the National Mall with a show by country star Clint Black. Word of the event startled some observers. "I've never heard of such a thing," said John Pike, who has been a defense analyst in Washington for 25 years and runs GlobalSecurity.org. The news also reignited debate and anger over linking Sept. 11 with the war in Iraq. "That piece of it is disturbing since we all know now there was no connection," said Paul Rieckhoff, an Iraq veteran who heads Operation Truth, an anti-administration military booster. More.... Let me add that I do not agree with all the views or opinions shared and doubt if everyone else agrees all the time. It is not a threat to me or my family if someone doesn't agree with my view. Right now there is so much confusion in the world regarding religions and who believes what. There are Christians, born-again Christians and right wing born again, seem to be hate filled (they say)Christians. There is Catholic and within that church there is Opius Dio and they don't even recognize others as being true catholics, and the moderate Catholics are shocked at them. There is Zionism withing the Jewish religion, leaving millions of Jews world wide appalled at the hijacking of the Jewish Religion. Then the Muslims who are trying their best to get the word out that they do not agree with the radical fringe of Islam. The tragedy of today is the rise of radicalism world wide who are stamping out the moderate voices of Christians, Jews and Muslims. Unfortunately when something is said about a black person, it's racist, if said about a proclaimed Christian, it's anti Jesus, against Israel's Zionism, it's anti-Israel, against Muslim, it's the Crusades. Almost the entire Jewish community where I live are anti-Zionism and believe the Zionists are anti-Israel, not the other way around. If we don't like what this government or this administration is doing we are not anti-Patriotic or against the soldiers. I am against hate and destruction and I look at the organizations and beliefs of those who promote hate and violence as a means to resolve issues. I do believe there is a better way to support Israel or the US or Islam than violent filled resolutions and I belong to the groups who believe the same. My heart aches for the innocent people of this earth who are punished for their beliefs. Just like Ireland, Palastine and Israel have been in this fight for so long they don't even know why they are fighting and Israel has managed to bring in the US and Palastine is bringing in the rest of the Middle East into their "fight." Because of that, innocent people are suffering terribly. Many people in the US, Israel and around the world see what is happening and are so afraid of being labeled anti-Christian or anti-Israel they don't stand up for fear of being slapped down. I would like that not to happen on this site, I would like it to remain a point of information and exchange. People place informative links on this site as a point of education, because none of us know it all about any situation. I am grateful for those links and perspectives. Mars, Saturn and retrograde Mercury are in stress aspect over this last week, and T Uranus has retrograded back to a square to the US Uranus, very touchy emotions and blowups, nationally, internationally and individually. My smirking chimp dream wedding... Judi Gemini your post was perfect, and the one thing I did think is we cannot expand our minds or move to a more inclusive attitude until we can face our own demons. I just read a few months ago that dropping the bomb over Japan was not a necessary thing. Eisenhower and McCarthy were against it because Japan was in negotiations for surrender, the fighting had stopped. We as a country have not faced up to that black point in history, the Germans are facing their guilt and it's time we all do. You are right we are manipulated by money, power, marketing, bankers etc. We are manipulated by people who do not and have never given a damn for people or their suffering etc, by people who are completely devoid of any emotion, disconnected people and they cover all creeds, religions and nationalities. It's hard for us to believe because we aren't disconnected and we keep thinking they will come to their senses. They haven't for hundreds of years and will not now. We have to talk about it and have to talk about how we have allowed it for hundreds of years. Jo, You too are right "While we're picking at each other here, Fascism is on the march..." I heard about that Clear Channel hoe down. Nice isn't it, that confrontation should help to spin things out of control, if it becomes another Kent State will MSM cover it? Jonathan, hope you stick around. I value your input, don't always agree, and I'm really unhappy with Hillary at the moment. Alas I am Chiracauhau Apache and Euro invaders, most folks call me white, my spirituality springs from both, neither Christian (shamanism/witchcraft). Posted by: Morgana on August 10, 2005 08:59 PMThis issue regarding Israel and Zionism is so very difficult to discuss in any public forum that it is not surprising to me at all that it has had this reaction on this forum. Last year on our campus a student (not a young student but someone in his mid 30's) accused the campus peace organization of being anti-semitic and even supporting terrorism because someone had posted a link on the organization web-site to an article on Rense that probed the Israeli connection to 9/11. This individual has devoted himself to an ugly smear campaign that had continued to pollute the campus atmosphere to this day. Now he has even gotten money from some right-wing source to start his own "free press" (sic) with wide distribution on the island where he can foment regularly about what a great job Bush is doing and what a noble thing it is our troops are doing in Iraq. Sometimes it is very hard indeed to discern the line between legitimate criticism of Israel and anti-semitism. Some of the stuff on Rense does cross the line, including pieces by Lang in my opinion, but I cannot say with confidence where that line should be drawn. Sometimes there may be truth in what is said but it is the tone in which it is said that betrays a latent anti-semitism. I do not detect that tone here. Perhaps I might add this one to wv's valuable links: it's not the links, Timothy, it's the mob like mentality of "you're either with us or against us" that has turned my stomach. Jonathan and Terry being told to come back when they're better informed, or get out of the kitchen if you can't stand the heat, or, basically, just to shut up if they disagree. That -- and the moderator not stepping in to stop the abuse -- has turned my stomach these past couple of days more than anything here. Links are fine; abuse is not. Posted by: Never on August 10, 2005 09:26 PMSally, yes. What I learned years ago in a college World History course from the professor is that war with Japan was effectively over prior to the dropping of nuclear bombs on Nagasaki & Hiroshima. The bombs were dropped to impress upon USSR that we HAD them and we'll USE them, so don't mess with us, bucko! (Interestingly, it was in that same class that the prof talked about FDR knowing from intelligence that Japan was planning to bomb Pearl Harbor, but taking no steps to prevent that attack, because "they" (gov't or admin people) wanted to get the American population riled and ready and willing to go to war, which, prior to Pearl Harbor, the populace was loathe to do.) Posted by: Lori on August 10, 2005 10:02 PMRE: Clear Channel's shenanigans. Well, let's see whether the soldiers even show up, shall we? A "person" (haha! according to the law of the land) is free to invite anyone to any shindig, yes? I recall reading about Bush's visit to a base in Colorado Springs some time ago; the video showed a few soldiers clapping with wild enthusiasm for the man and his snafu, but another person who had been there noted that THE MAJORITY OF TROOPS WERE NEITHER AMUSED NOR ENTHUSED BY THE MAN. They're stuck! They have no -- talk about your lack of free will! They have no choice about where they are and where they go and what they do next. I think we've discussed on this board before (or at least had an article link posted) how recruits are going AWOL, etc. How they're committing suicide to avoid going (perhaps among other things...) I don't know what will happen at the barbie Q; I sure seem (and believe me, I do not know where this is coming from) to have a real "wait and see" attitude about things lately. Posted by: Lori on August 10, 2005 10:12 PMI heard that about FDR and Pearl Harbor years ago too Lori, and I am not sure I don't believe it. They've never found absolute proof but there are some pretty strange memo's to the FBI and FDR out there from Commanders who were in the Pacific at the time. Plus there is some evidence to indicate we got into WWI the same way. Then the other day someone told me that the history books were being changed to eliminate the Revolutionary War, starting American History from the war of 1812. I don't know how widespread this might be or if it is happening at all, but history is written by the conquerors and it's from their perspective. I go back to what Judi G wrote, we are and have been so manipulated for so long by the "powers that be or wanna be" we hardly know what the truth is or what we believe. Read the book "The Powers that Be" by Haliburton. I think it's still in print. But we believe what we read in the papers or see on TV or hear on radio and it becomes whatever they want to put up. The thing about finding absolute proof is that documents have to be absolutely available, know what I'm sayin'? I take your point -- ultimately we don't KNOW (in our heads; though we may know in other ways...or not). I hadn't heard about removal of the Rev War from history books. Huh! I'll make note of the book you mention. As to us believing what we see on TV, read in papers, etc., I respectfully disagree, as I can be heard plainly on a virtually daily basis yelling at either TV or paper: "What a bunch of bull*!" or other statements to that effect. In fact, when I read the statement "we're wondering how we were lied into the Iraq war," I'm wondering "who's 'WE', Kemosabe?" Cuz I never bought the story for a second. The Mars retro for six months will most likely sustain the debate so settle in and remember the stubborn nature of Taurus. The argument is essential in this pressure cooker called life. The fault lines are everywhere. They will split. irrationality is a side effect, unfortunately. Hurt feelings are temporary and will heal. We can trust one another anyway. We're talking politics, astrology, and, yes, spirituality, on this site, not someone's decision to stay or leave Astroworld. We are free. Jonathan is an adult, and if he threatens to leave as he always does, and then actually does it, then that's his decision. His disdain for Astroworld is not a threat to me. And his comments, when focused on the subjects, are stimulating. The leaders in a country are a reflection of the society at the moment. Any leader who destroys human bodies for political gain should be questioned mercilessly. And that includes a lot of people right now. Posted by: jm on August 10, 2005 10:38 PMI guess I was about 6 years old when I first learned of the bombing of Hiroshima which took place exactly 12 years before my birth. It filled me with a horror that has had a profound effect upon me to this day. The United States made a Faustian bargain on the day that bomb was dropped. There is obviously a direct connection with the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the current war in Iraq and the whole "war on terrorism."
by Charley Reese 08/10/05 "LewRockwell.com" -- -- As of this writing, more than 1,800 young Americans have died in Iraq. The combined cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan is $340 billion. This is what happens when we elect people who refuse to accept the limits set by the United States Constitution. The Constitution gave us a government to govern America, not the world. It is none of our business what forms of government other countries have, just as it is none of our business whether the women in a foreign country wear burkhas or bikinis. Surely you realize by now that either the Bush administration knew Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction or, even scarier, was dumb enough to believe it did have them. On Sept. 11, 2001, we had one enemy – a terrorist organization that calls itself al-Qaida. Instead of limiting our response to taking out that organization, President George Bush declared war on the world. http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article9726.htm I will add that the transiting South Node is in Libra now, not exactly the place for pleasant agreement. Not without going through the burning fires of the North in Aries. People are automatically standing by their opinions these days. And going into battle to defend them. It's probably a way to find our identities, and is not ultimately a threat to the cohesiveness of the group. Posted by: jm on August 10, 2005 10:47 PM
And one thing I'd like to report from the ground that got my attention. The major radio talk station in my town is big and reaches all across America and beyond. The overnight host is a brilliant man with a thorough knowledge of history. He is politically independent. People of all political persuasions tune him in. I noticed last night after years of dicussing 911, Iraq, and this administration, that the government compliance was more than being suggested. Since this is far,far from being a left wing crowd, I think this is significant. Even the fact that it is being discussed so openly is vey interesting, and gives me hope. It is such a hard reality for this society to face. Posted by: jm on August 10, 2005 10:55 PMCheck out in particular the essay by Walter Cronkite on the wagingpeace site. Unfortunately I cannot remember where and I lost all my old bookmarks when my computer crashed earlier this summer, but I wonder if any of the astrologers here care to comment. I think especially considering a number of recent articles suggesting possible war with Iran and the potential use of tactical nuclear weapons that we are perhaps closer now than at any time since 62 to revisiting that horror. Is there anything to the importance of 60 year cycles? And, i believe one of the greatest challenges is aligning the self to a consciousness that supercedes ego. Astrology is one tool that points the way. karen Posted by: farrout on August 11, 2005 12:09 AMThanks for the hug, dear Jo... don't know what the hug is for exactly, but I certainly appreciate it (one cancer moon to another)! ;O) I'll be looking forward to what your sister says. We can't supercede our egos just now when Saturn is transiting Leo. We have to confront them, control, them, and learn to use them wisely. Some mistakes will be made along the way. And Mars will be there for six months. Our egos are valuable. Especially when counteracting hubris in the political arena. Ego muscle is being developed now against resistance. Posted by: jm on August 11, 2005 12:23 AMA perfect example is Hillary Clinton, who in her greed and ego lust for power made her reach for the Presidency before she even dealt with her Senate re-election. It looks like she just hit her Saturn wall. I think Pirro is going to be a big problem for her, and it could spell the end of her overblown Presidential ambitions. Correct application of ego would have just enough humility to attend to the immediate challenges with care and respect, and not grab like Aesop's dog for the bone in the water. She is about to hit a buzz saw with Saturn squaring her Scorpio and going over her Leo Planets and then Pluto on election day 2008 is squaring her Moon, not good aspects for her. She does have some rebound between mid 2007 and Nov. 2008, but she has to get from here to there and I don't know if she is going to make it, not without redesigning herself into authenticity. People asked me "who of the candidates looks good on election day" and Howard Dean looked the best on election day and for several months afterward, but they asked me in Dec. 2003 and I said then that the problem was he had to get from here to there. Her son, Casey, a 24-year-old Army specialist, was killed in a Sadr City ambush last year. The president met with her family two months after Casey's death. Capturing W.'s awkwardness in traversing the line between somber and joking, and his love of generic labels, Ms. Sheehan said that W. had referred to her as "Mom" throughout the meeting, and given her the sense that he did not know who her son was. The Bush team tried to discredit "Mom" by pointing reporters to an old article in which she sounded kinder to W. If only her husband were an undercover C.I.A. operative, the Bushies could out him. But even if they send out a squad of Swift Boat Moms for Truth, there will be a countering Falluja Moms for Truth. It's amazing that the White House does not have the elementary shrewdness to have Mr. Bush simply walk down the driveway and hear the woman out, or invite her in for a cup of tea. But W., who has spent nearly 20 percent of his presidency at his ranch, is burrowed into his five-week vacation and two-hour daily workouts. He may be in great shape, but Iraq sure isn't. More.... They are Walmarting the art work....agents are signing up people to do work ad taking huge cuts; some just rip the artists off...sometimes they work for 33% of the price of the piece....we as a group are starting to work for nothing. It is once again a sea change in business practices...big storyboard agencies don't even reveal the artist's last names, they are basically churning out work (a team will do 100 frames overnight! - I was asked to do that by a local agency and when I said, that is impossible, they never called again, but went to the conglomerate storyboard agency)...working for the company store. AND agencies all over are sending storyboard art to Korea, India, Israel, Europe for cheaper prices (I hear THAT'S not working out too well!!! can you say TIME change?) Yeh...I am VERY good.....and the little work I get is 25% less than what I used to get. Cutting my agent out....and she hasn't been able to get me work since last May. The agencies are also losing businesses, as they get new CEOs, etc...and THEY are requesting cheap work..... I've been thru two career changes so far....I will retire and rethink in peace. Posted by: Sharon on August 11, 2005 05:59 AM* Independent truckers stage work stoppage As someone who is Jewish i have to say that much of the "anti-zionist" tone of the anti-war movement was a real turn off. I spent quite a bit of time and energy supporting Kerry - but I see more people who are Jewish not feeling welcome on the left. For the last 100 years Jews in the US have been an important force supporting progressive politics from unions to the civil rights - so if the left moves to alientate this group it's a mistake. As to Israel it's a bit too late to turn the clock back - many living in Israel are Arab Jews/Persians who CAN'T go back to their old homes in places like Iraq, Syria or Iran. Also there are many folks in Isreal who don't support being in Palestine - and anti-zionist statements play into pushing people into the Likud party. It should also be pointed out that we could support a Palestinian homeland in places like Jordan, but we don't for our own political reasons. But the one thing that I wish the most is that people would get that the key to having peace would be to have a stable Palestinian state living side-by-side with Isreal. Until people get out of an "either or" mindset there will never be peace there. Also I never see anybody on questioning Pakistan's right to exist - why is a homeland for Muslim Indians any less valid than Jewish Arabs? Not only that but Pakistan gave nuke technology to both North Korea and Iran, but because they are a US client state nobody bats an eyelash. Nevermind that India is the laregest democracy in the world and that Pakistan is a dictatorship. Where are the demands for the Hindu right of return? It's what Ghandi would want - no? Anyway I'm not posting this as flame bait - but just to point out that the world isn't as black and white as our leaders and corporate news media would have you belive. Our enemy isn't the right or the left, but people who cling to ideology over reality. When we look back at this Sagg. Karen Armstrong Guardian Human beings, in nearly all cultures, have long engaged in a rather strange activity. They have taken a literary text, given it special status and attempted to live according to its precepts. These texts are usually of considerable antiquity yet they are expected to throw light on situations that their authors could not have imagined. In times of crisis, people turn to their scriptures with renewed zest and, with much creative ingenuity, compel them to speak to their current predicament. We are seeing a great deal of scriptural activity at the moment. http://www.guardian.co.uk/print/0,3858,5259900-103677,00.html Posted by: wv on August 11, 2005 01:25 PM
THURSDAY, AUGUST 11, 2005 WV, how interesting that you posted a Karen Armstrong article! I just heard of her yesterday, from my voraciously reading friend, in an e-mail: "I just finished called "The Spiral Staircase" Some excellent posts from Salon: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/8/10/151739/912 This is a really excellent essay. The comments are great, too. Long, but worth the read and the discussion. Military experts say it's time to cut our losses in Iraq by Sharon Jumper As many of you know, I'm a veteran and the mom of a soldier, and I've been against this war since before it began. When I was in the Army, I was in military intelligence; I've got degrees in political science, law, and am finishing my doctorate in public policy right now. I'm not a pacifist by any stretch of the imagination. For the past two and 1/2 years, I've lived this war as a scholar (my dissertation is on the occupation), a professor, a veteran, and a mother. The time has come, however, to draw a line in the sand. It's time to end the occupation of Iraq and bring our troops home now. Much more... .................. Gore Vidal foretold that w would be the first president to preside over an army in mutiny. It appears his prediction is coming to pass. ................. from this morning's Juan Cole: Abdul Aziz al-Hakim, leader of the Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI), has made his move. Giving a speech in the holy city of Najaf, he demanded that the nine southern Shiite-majority provinces be allowed to form a regional confederation that would deal with the central government in Baghdad. This confederation would mirror the "Kurdistan" confederation of northern provinces already established. The southern confederation, which some call "Sumer," in honor of the ancient civilization of that region, would make a claim on some percentage of the petroleum revenue coming out of the Rumaila oil fields.
Thank you and hugs... Posted by: wv on August 11, 2005 03:08 PM
Karen Armstrong is one of my favorites, I have My other favorite is Arundhati Roy, and Indian wv, I have long admired her. http://www.zmag.org/content/showarticle.cfm?SectionID=51&ItemID=2919 Confronting Empire I’ve been asked to speak about "How to confront Empire?" It’s a huge question, and I have no easy answers. When we speak of confronting "Empire," we need to identify what "Empire" means. Does it mean the U.S. Government (and its European satellites), the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the World Trade Organization, and multinational corporations? Or is it something more than that? In many countries, Empire has sprouted other subsidiary heads, some dangerous byproducts — nationalism, religious bigotry, fascism and, of course terrorism. All these march arm in arm with the project of corporate globalization. Let me illustrate what I mean. India — the world’s biggest democracy — is currently at the forefront of the corporate globalization project. Its "market" of one billion people is being prized open by the WTO. Corporatization and Privatization are being welcomed by the Government and the Indian elite. It is not a coincidence that the Prime Minister, the Home Minister, the Disinvestment Minister — the men who signed the deal with Enron in India, the men who are selling the country’s infrastructure to corporate multinationals, the men who want to privatize water, electricity, oil, coal, steel, health, education and telecommunication — are all members or admirers of the RSS. The RSS is a right wing, ultra-nationalist Hindu guild which has openly admired Hitler and his methods. More... Paul Joseph Watson & Alex Jones | August 10 2005 The head of Fort Monroe's Training and Doctrine Command, four star general Kevin P. Other sources however have offered a different explanation for Byrnes' dismissal which ties in with the Bush administration's unpopular plan to attack Iran and the staged nuclear attack in the US which would provide the pretext to do so. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pinhas Wallerstein, a leader of the Yesha Council of settlements, yesterday said that during tonight's anti-disengagement rally in Tel Aviv's Rabin Square, "we will call on supporters to violate the military order closing Gush Katif." He added that settlers would instruct activists to break through barriers near the Gaza Strip to get to the Kissufim road any way they could. Former chief rabbi Avraham Shapira, the spiritual mentor of religious Zionism, has also told settlers to ignore the disengagement implementation law because it violates "a total ban on handing over Israeli land to foreigners." He said this applies to every Jew, "soldier and civilian," and anyone who failed to observe it would never be exonerated, "not in this world or the next." Here's another thread from one of my most favorite (international) sites, which carries fascinating information (I think you'll like it): http://iraqwar.mirror-world.ru/article/59534 Posted by: Peg on August 12, 2005 01:37 AMI just put this up on my blog. It occurred to me that Cindy Sheehan is tranforming the energy in the anti-war movement: THE PROTEST MOVEMENT LIVES! The big event going on in America right now is the growing protest outside of Bush’s ranch in Crawford led by Cindy Sheehan. Not only is the current transit of Uranus upsetting Bush (Uranus opposite his Mars), but it is square the US Uranus, stimulating a feeling of rebellion and protest in the country. The entire month of August is phase two of this transit. It is stimulated very strongly from August 8 through August 18 by Mercury and, to a lesser extent, Mars. Under the liberating Uranian energy, the anti-war movement is coalescing around the person of Cindy Sheehan. People are flocking to Crawford and sending money to support this grieving mother who wants to know why her son was killed. Why exactly did we fight this war, Mr. President? Until recently, questioning the war has been difficult because it has been framed by the Right as not supporting the troops. And since no one wants to demoralize or devalue the troops, many who could have spoken, kept silent. But Cindy Sheehan changes all of that. It is out of her love for one soldier who was lost in this war that she speaks. It is impossible to accuse her of not suporting the troops. In fact, her presence in Crawford is the highest kind of support for the troops possible: she demands that their sacrifice should have meaning and should stand for that which is most honorable and good in America. If it does not, then her support for them requires that they come home. The impact of Cindy Sheehan’s story totally transforms and empowers the anti-war movement in this country. It legitimizes it and washes away any contradiction that might have existed between supporting the troops and being against the war. We are watching a momentous shift.

Realizing defeat, Zeus commanded Hermes to descend to the Underworld and command Pluto to release Persephone..." And this is what happened. After a few pomegranate seeds later...after some compromise between Pluto and Persephone. As I said in an earlier post, Ceres has great power. She never was a pushover. Now she sits in Scorpio. She is there in the field of death, decay, and in the 2nd Innauguaration Chart she is confounding liars (squaring Neptune). Her voice will be heard far and wide (sextile Venus/Mercury in the 9th). It used to make going with my daughter during her pregnancies SO wonderful....they should bottle that smell...we'd just stand in the parking lot and luxuriate.
