NEW THREAD THROUGH THE NEEDLE
I hear it's hot mighty hot in Texas including Crawford. I also hear tell there is a big dust cloud the size of the US drifting toward Texas from Saudia Arabia. They say this is not an uncommon occurance, still it is a big dust cloud over Texas.
The GOP majority in the Texas House of Representatives today fell apart, its party discipline destroyed by the stink of corruption that permeates the Bush era in Texas and across the country.
If Texas had icebergs, this would be the tip of one. I'm not talking about Karl Rove's adulterous behavior.
http://www.bopnews.com/archives/004294.html
This isn't an article but it makes for some fun summer reading. Looks like Texas is getting out of hand. This is the second article I've read about the "wagons" pulling away from Tom Delay and his friends and Gov. "goodhair" Perry. Makes a body wonder.
Everyone should try to bring as much laughter into their lives as possible. Saturn in Leo might give way to dark humor (matching the mood of the nation) better to laugh when possible while Saturn tries to drain it away.
I've been receiving complaints from clients of being tired the last few days, tired and not caring about anything. I think we are worn out from Saturn's trip through Cancer. As always, with Saturn, it takes 30 years to travel the Zodiac, so look back to what was going on in your life 30 years ago.
Thirty years ago in 1976, right before Saturn left Cancer, I had a brand new baby, and this year, just as Saturn was leaving Cancer I found out that I am going to have my first grandchild in February 2006. So review your lives 30 years ago and look for repeats. It's a funny thing, lots happened to me the last time Saturn was moving into Leo and it wasn't all good, but it's the joy of that baby that remains a permanent memory.

Sally, congrats on the first grandbaby....you will love it, the experience I mean....
That Texas story is such a RELIEF....you mean the people in TX ARE paying attention? Hubris IS going to bring these clods down....
I tried to go to the link on Rove's adulterous behavior but it kept crashing my IE browser, wouldn't load, etc. I swear, computers go down hard during Merc. REtro. What did all of that mean? Rove's adulterous behavior?
Pat C....never got a chance to read the sunday comix, missed that Doonesbury...then I went to RawStory, and there was a story all about how the comic was killed because of the 'turd blossom' comment. My.....my.
Read the article on Doonesbury being shut out of 11 or 12 papers because of the "turd blossom" comment which they should have explained was Georgie's loving nickname for Karl. At any rate I had not seen the cartoon in question and thanks Pat C for bringing that to us.
Judi, I could not get to that site either but the article was about a "VERY" close friendship Karl has with this woman and George gave her an important job at the WH. She is a lobbiest or was, unmarried (Karl is married) attractive and they have been extremely close "friends" for at least 10 years but no reporter will touch it with a ten foot pole.
Thanks Sally for the wonderful article. Hopefully, this can be the beginning of the end of the the 30 years draught of Republican/Christo-fascist control of my state.
Us progressives here are working hard. The key to turning Texas back to the Dems are: 1 - attract even more of the growing latino voting bloc in Texas. 2 - attract the growing young population in Texas that is even larger than the national average. 3 - Strengthen and coordinate the small but growing grassroots progressive organizations in Austin and central Houston that could serve as the "troops in the foxholes" to bring the progressive message to the citizens. 4 - strangely and less obvious is that democrats can woo texas farmers and ranchers who are angry over the horrible policies of the Bush admin in regard to farm subsidies and agricultural aid. Though people maybe suprised by this, remember that Texas farmers in the 20s and 30s created the most progressive "Grange" movement that supported federal aide to hurting farmers and their families.
Well, this is what I see here in the state. Hopely, we could see the end of Delay in sugarland.

GOP to investigate Fitzgerald

Prosecutor In CIA Leak Case Casting A Wide Net

Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) intends to interfere in Fitzgerald probe.
And the next story is a real doozy:
July 26, 2005 -- CIA agents concerned about counter-intelligence "hits" masked as terrorist attacks. In the aftermath of the outing by the White House of the identities of covert CIA agents, CIA professionals are concerned about past and future terrorist bombings being used by foreign counter-intelligence agencies and terrorist organizations to selectively assassinate CIA agents and assets identified as being involved in America's counter-WMD proliferation operations. Of particular concern are small scale terrorist attacks directed against restaurants, cafes, hotels, and bars where agents and their assets meet. They point to the July 23 bomb blast at an Istanbul cafe near the Galata Bridge which is frequented by Turks and foreigners. The relatively low yield blast injured two people, a Dutchman and a Turk. Turkey remains a central focus by U.S. intelligence agencies on WMD proliferation because of its close links to the former Soviet Central Asian states, Pakistan, Israel, and former Warsaw Pact eastern European nations. The Marriott Hotel in Jakarta was car bombed on August 5, 2003, just a few weeks after the White House leaked Valerie Plame's name and her NOC firm, Brewster Jennings & Associates, to several reporters, including columnist Robert Novak. Some 14 people were killed and 148 injured in the Marriott bombing. According to intelligence sources, a covert team of CIA agents on a classified mission were due to stay and meet at the hotel the day the bombing occurred but they canceled their reservations at the last minute when they were tipped off that they were targets for an attack. The CIA team was reportedly involved in the capture in Thailand of Al Qaeda terrorist chief Hambali, thought to have been involved, in addition to the Bali nightclub and other bombings, in trying to procure radioactive material (cesium-137 and cobalt-60) smuggled from the former Soviet Union via Laos to Thailand. It is not known whether any Brewster Jennings NOCs or assets were members of the CIA team that captured Hambali but the terrorist's connections to an international network of radioactive material smugglers would suggest CIA Counter Proliferation Division (CPD) involvement at a minimum. Plame and her Brewster Jennings colleagues reported to the CPD. The Jakarta bombing was blamed on Al Qaeda's Indonesian affiliate, Jemaah Islamiya.
Judi, I just keep imagining the right wing digging a deeper and deeper hole which becomes so deep they no longer have a way to get back out. There they are, stuck at the bottom of a pit of their own making, and honest media is standing on the edge, aiming their camers down at the traitors with shovels, for all to see.

Constipated writer, in the comments to the Rove post, writes:
"There are some legit points in that Washington Post article amongst the avalanche spin and back tracking. People might as well face facts-Liberals are just as scandolous as the Conservatives. Just depends on which practice you feel less disturbed about."
No.
No.
No.
Let me make this perfectly plain.
The man who runs the White House, the man who's run every one of the president's campaigns, the man who controls every public and private move of this administration just said -- no, demonstrably, factcheckingly LIED about liberals not wanting to go to war after 9/11 and then implicated that liberals' "motives" are aid and comfort to the enemy. To wit, the colloquial understanding of treason.

What does the astrological picture look like for Bush, Rove, Cheney and Fitzgerald during Sept-Oct of this year? Today's article in the WaPo says that Fitzgerald is not just going after the person(s) who leaked Plame, but is also investigating the falsification of the Niger information that found its way into Bush's SOTU address. I keep going back to Saturn (the law) transiting Bush's Pluto (the dark underbelly) in Leo (power) in his first house (visibility, personal image), no less. I'm not putting all my hopes into this, but the climate looks ripe this fall for the administration to reap some of what they've sown. Can anyone see confirmation of this in the charts of those around Bush?
Good ones Joanna!

In Plame case, where was the Boss?
No less an American icon than Bruce Springsteen is now making a cameo in the case of the outed CIA operative.
Time magazine reports http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1087227,00.html that Valerie Plame, using her married name, Valerie Wilson, made a contribution to an anti-Bush group during the last election cycle to see a Bruce Springsteen concert.
"The Wilsons last year attended an anti-Bush fundraising concert featuring Bruce Springsteen last fall. Federal Election Commission records show the tab: $372 to America Coming Together, a political committee that worked hard to oppose President Bush's re-election, for two floor seats," Time reports.
"'It was great,' Joe Wilson said, returning a call for his wife. 'Remember, this was a year and a half after the Administration compromised the identity of my wife, and it was no great secret that I was doing my bit to educate the American public as to the flaws in the Bush Administration's foreign policy.'"
The right-wing media, like Fox News, have seized on this latest revelation as an example of how the Wilsons are politically compromised: "It's the first revelation that Plame participated in anti-Bush activity while working for the CIA," Fox http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,163777,00.html
We're just relieved that no one is calling Bruce a traitor.

The Democrats' 2008 Choice
David Sirota
July 27, 2005
David Sirota is a writer and veteran political strategist. Sirota's regular blogs can be viewed at HuffingtonPost and SirotaBlog. This first appeared on HuffingtonPost.
The 2008 Democratic presidential candidates this week are busy genuflecting at Corporate America's alter—otherwise known as the Democratic Leadership Council (DLC). Now, it's true—the DLC is really just a group of Beltway-insulated corporate-funded hacks who have spent the better part of the last decade trying to undermine the Democratic Party's traditional working class base—a base that had kept Democrats in power for 40 years and now, thanks to the DLC, has been forfeited to the Republicans. Even so, the fact that these presidential candidates feel the need to bow down to the DLC is a troubling sign about whether the Democratic Party is really serious about regaining power in America.
Let's just look at the cold, hard facts about the DLC and its record. The DLC has pushed, among other things, the war in Iraq and "free" trade policies, using bags of corporate money to buy enough Democratic votes to help Republicans make those policies a reality. They have chastised anyone who has opposed those policies as either unpatriotic or anti-business—even as a majority of Americans now oppose the war in Iraq, oppose the DLC's business-written trade deals, and are sick of watching America's economy sold out to the highest corporate bidder. Additionally, in Orwellian fashion, the DLC has also called its extremist agenda "centrist," even though polls show the American public opposes most of their agenda, and supports much of the progressive agenda .

We are all looking and have great hope of something anything coming along to topple this presidency, the reality is no matter what Bush has going on from a negative sense and while things keep happening to him, he has had cover since taking office in the form of Neptune in Aquarius. While Neptune has been opposing his Leo planets, it has also been sextiling his Libra planets and that will continue through the next year. Saturn conjunct his Ascendant is a tough one for him but it will sextile his Neptune at the same time again giving him cover.
Both Fitzgerald and Bush have another shock coming to them with Uranus opposing Fitz Pluto and Bush's Mars. Cheney is a bit player in this because nothing will ever happen to him unless it's his health, frankly I don't know what is keeping the man alive now. Pluto is square his moon and goes stationary on that point in Sept., that should be pretty dramatic for him.
Bush's negative energy around him could just mean another fall on his bike. Judith Miller is the key to anything really happening here, Judith Miller and the British government, because they know what happened and if the Brits make a big enough fuss the fall out will hit here. Judith Miller is Fitzgerald's key and he knows it.
Fitzgerald was given very tight boundaries and he cannot go outside of those boundaries with this investigation and Gonzeles is not going to let him go outside of those boundaries.
We have to look at the US and the Repug/Dem parties to see what happens, as well as Britain and Israel, the rest of us are pawns in this game. Russia and China are another. The scandals for GWB and crew have been their regularly since he took office in 2001, so it's not the scandals, it is when his protection is removed and the US awakens. It will be when the rigid stance of the GOP weakens, like it has started to in Texas and might begin as we go into an election season and when the Dems make such a stink about the voting machines that something is done, again, it's when his protection is removed.
Every nook and cranny has been filled in the US, the "Hydra" and that has to be destroyed before Bush will be out of office. The scandals will keep coming, it's the resolution of those scandals that are up in the air.
Let's send white light to Judith Miller with the prayer that she will feel called to tell the truth.
Sorry if this is a repost, but it's always refreshing to see the media talking about our would-be emperor wearing no clothes...

While I agree that the Texas legislature's failure to emerge from this session with some claim of success on school financing/taxes will carry a price for the repugs, I think you may be reading more into the sitauation. If there is an astrological reason for hope, I sure would like to hear about it (Craddick's chart, Perry's chart, special session chart). From a political point of view, Craddick has been weakend by the TrimPAC trial, but he cut a deal and is more or less off the hook. The Repugs in Texas are a united front when facing down the Democrats and social programs, but school financing is simply too powerful and dangerous for them to whitewash a victory. Perry has been weakened by all this, but has no serious challenger from the Democratic party. Chris Bell is not the one. The only real threat - and she is a long shot - is from the state comptroller, Carole Keeton Strayhorn, also a republican (and former Democrat). She's considered to be ultra-conservative, but she has integrity. That's my take here from the capital. It will take a cataclysm to unseat the repugs from the Texas legislature given the new districts, and I just don't see that on the horizon.
On an unrelated note, is anybody paying attention to MAJ Hackett from an astrology perspective - the Marine Corps Major running for US Congress in Ohio (check Daily KOS for recent news)? Here's a guy who volunteered to go to Iraq, served again, and is now having his patriotism questioned. If he wins, I think that could serve as a catalyst to shove patriotism up the fringe-right's collective arse (I'm hoping).
Just got this in an email from a friend who's going to lose her job due to outsourcing--I thought it was worth sharing:
Karma??????
Isn't it funny that my company and other big U.S. companies are outsourcing to a country that is now covered in water due to a monsoon which is typical for that area. Right now the phone lines are down and the electricity is out. Oh and get this, we are having to pick up the slack, that's right we are doing our jobs and theirs. We have some people stuck at work unable to leave the building. Monsoon season is June - September. That doesn't really seem like alot of time but when a country is immobilized it could be a big deal. I'm not being ugly and don't wish bad on these people, but isn't it funny that this is able to happen, first we lose our jobs to a foreign country because it's cheaper and then our U.S. companies are crippled by mother nature and an inadequate infrastructure. But look on the bright side, we are obviously rebiulding their slum neighborhoods while American citizens who financially support these companies are jobless or soon to be jobless. What will they do if it gets washed away? Am I bitter....nooooo, not me.
At least 200 killed in India monsoon
Record-setting rains shut down schools, airports, financial markets
"Approximately 200 dead bodies have already been recovered in the state," R.R. Patil, deputy chief minister of Maharashtra state told The Associated Press. The figure included 83 deaths in Bombay.
The chaos highlighted Bombay's desperately overloaded and inadequate infrastructure. Authorities have recently begun demolishing slums as part of a hugely ambitious $6 billion plan to turn the city into a new Shanghai

I agree with your assessment, JC in Austin, re: the current state of politics in Texas. Republicans may be disgusted with their legislators, but that doesn't mean they'll necessarily vote for a Democrat instead. Plus the Democratic Party in Texas is practically moribund and is in debt to boot. There are pockets of liberalism scattered throughtout the state, but no seismic shift occurring, sorry to say.
Congress Prepares to Pulverize 70 Years of New Deal Protections

Montana, that spark of Democratic hope, offers a teensy bit of that scarce stuff on the energy regulation front. But, first, an introduction.
It's taken Dick Cheney and his cronies four years to get an oligarch-friendly, environment-savaging energy bill through the House and Senate. Short of a revolt by the rank and file of Congress, however, that legislation will finally be plunked onto the President's desk before he heads out to pretend through another August that he's a Crawford rancher.
The only thing that makes this putrescent pandering to petroleum interests less awful than the likely confirmation of John Roberts Jr. to the Supreme Court is that the Democrats can override today's energy legislation with their own if they're ever in the White House and congressional majority again. Roberts, on the other hand, we'll be stuck with past my 90th birthday.

I wanted to share an e-mail I sent to my sister who has a sixteen-year-old son:
"I overheard someone in the elevator talking about how her 16-year-old son is getting all kinds of calls from military recruiters trying to convince him to sign up for early basic training for the summer before his senior year. I personally think this sucks. No 16-year-old is going to really have a grasp on what that means."
Just awful.
Maj Hackett's patriotism being questioned is all
old smear tactics of the how low can you stoop repugs modus operandi;don't we all know that unless of course we have lapse of memory like all
con-repugs like reagan and now the latest to join
the sudden memory(chip) getting erased is the very
aspiring-to-be supreme court (in)justice john roberts, who forgets whether he was a member of the federalist club or NOT. The smear being nothing new - is first willie horton crap by the
saint, my foot, devilish lee atwater(thank goodness is a dead entity), and lately smearing of
ex Sen.Cleland from Georgia, whose patriotism was
questioned, while all these rogue traitors from
shrub and bush clan, rogue rove, oil slick traitor
cheny wrap themselves with the flag and crow from
roof tops how patriotic they are! If only the people power, here, would handcuff these punks and
drag them off to jails and throw the jail keys for
ever.
Not only any 16 year old is not mature enough to
know what his enlisting FOR, some states where
the minimum drinking age is 21 years, ought to
prevent sign up unless the kid has grown to be an adult of 21 years since that's when the state has
determined that the person can be trusted with
beer or wine and responsibility.
Fleischer May Have Lied to Grand Jury, Too:
A White House telephone log shows that Mr. Fleischer received a call from Mr. Novak on July 7, 2003, but a person familiar with Mr. Fleischer's testimony said he told prosecutors he never returned the call. Mr. Fleischer was aboard Air Force One with Mr. Bush and several other senior administration officials as they traveled across Africa that week.
And while a classified State Department memorandum that identified Mr. Wilson's wife, Valerie Wilson, as a C.I.A. operative, was also on board, Mr. Fleischer has told the grand jury that he never saw the document, according to the person familiar with his testimony.
["I'm cooperating with the investigators, and refer all questions to them," Mr. Fleischer said on Tuesday, after turning away a reporter at his house on Monday.]

Condoleezza Rice at the Center of the Plame Scandal
The Source Beyond Rove
By ROGER MORRIS
Former NSC staffer
... Condoleeza Rice by both commission and omission was integral in perpetrating the original fraud of Niger, and then inevitably in the vengeful betrayal of Plame's identity. None of that spilling of secrets for crass political retribution could have gone on without her knowledge and approval, and thus complicity. Little of it could have happened without her participation, if not as a leaker herself, at least with her direction and with her scripting.....
The discrediting of Wilson, in which the outing his CIA wife is irresistible, becomes as imperative for Rice as for Rove and Libby, Bush and Cheney. And when that moment comes, she has the unique authority, and is in a position, to do the deed. Motive, means, opportunity-in the classic terms of prosecution, Rice had them all.
(Follows a long day-by-day detaied chronology worth keeping)
The chronology will no doubt continue to expand in the days and weeks ahead. There may well be a ticking time-bomb in the Grand Jury investigation of the Plame leak that goes beyond anything we now envision.
In earlier findings in cases of reporters refusing to testify, DC Circuit Judge, David Tatel, a distinguished jurist known for his devotion to civil liberties and especially press freedoms, had stoutly maintained a federal privilege for the media, shielding it from being compelled to testify except under the most exceptional conditions. But in then later joining his colleagues in ordering Cooper and the New York Times' Judith Miller to testify, Tatel reviewed extensive secret information from the prosecutor, devoted eight blacked-out pages of his judgment to the material, and concluded that the privilege he had upheld throughout his career as a lawyer and judge had to give way before "the gravity of the suspected crime." No other element of the scandal bodes so ill for the Bush regime.

Schell and Engelhardt Making Sense of the Plame Affair
The Media's Roving Eye
Oh what a tangled web we weave When we first practice to deceive…
I've written regularly about the media's inability to connect the dots. The other day a reporter out in the far-flung reaches of our imperium wrote in to Tomdispatch pointing to a front-paged dot that no one -- myself included -- had bothered to pay much attention to or connect to anything at all. In the July 21st Washington Post, Walter Pincus and Jim VandeHei wrote a piece, Plame's Identity Marked as Secret, describing a memo from the State Department's intelligence experts that Secretary of State Colin Powell had with him on a 5-day trip to Africa he took with the President and his aides that began on July 7, 2003. This was only a day after former Ambassador Joseph Wilson published What I Didn't Find in Africa on the op-ed page of the New York Times, exposing the Bush administration's Niger uranium lie. ("Based on my experience with the administration in the months leading up to the war, I have little choice but to conclude that some of the intelligence related to Iraq's nuclear weapons program was twisted to exaggerate the Iraqi threat."); only four days before Time magazine's Matt Cooper had that conversation "on double super secret background" with Karl Rove and was told that "wilson's wife… apparently works at the agency on wmd"; only five days before CIA Director George Tenet took a provisional fall for the administration for letting those "16 words" that started the whole thing on Saddam's supposed search for African uranium for his supposed atomic program into the 2003 State of the Union Address the previous January; only seven days before Robert Novak wrote his now infamous Mission to Niger column outing Joe Wilson's wife as a CIA agent. ("Wilson never worked for the CIA, but his wife, Valerie Plame, is an Agency operative on weapons of mass destruction. Two senior administration officials told me Wilson's wife suggested sending him to Niger to investigate the Italian report.")

Update [2005-7-27 15:46:52 by Armando]: From the diaries by Armando. Edited to bring the good stuff up top.
Ahmed Ressam, the Algerian who was arrested in 1999 with materials and a plan to bomb LAX airport on New Year's 2000, was sentenced today to 22 years in prison. He was useful for a while in providing information, but has refused to assist the US any further in recent months.
It's important that he was caught by our border guards (yay us!), and that he's locked away. But what's more important is the way his trial was handled. He is no less a terrorist than Mohamed Atta - just less successful. And he's much more of a terrorist than Jose Padilla, who has not and likely will not see an attorney because he's an "enemy combatant". 9/11 didn't change who or what these people are, it only seemed to change who we are, and that makes me sad.
It seems to make the judge in the Ressam case sad, too. His incredibly powerful words while sentencing Ressam are below, with no further comment from me.
The message I would hope to convey in today's sentencing is twofold:
First, that we have the resolve in this country to deal with the subject of terrorism and people who engage in it should be prepared to sacrifice a major portion of their life in confinement.
Secondly, though, I would like to convey the message that our system works. We did not need to use a secret military tribunal, or detain the defendant indefinitely as an enemy combatant, or deny him the right to counsel, or invoke any proceedings beyond those guaranteed by or contrary to the United States Constitution.
I would suggest that the message to the world from today's sentencing is that our courts have not abandoned our commitment to the ideals that set our nation apart. We can deal with the threats to our national security without denying the accused fundamental constitutional protections.
Despite the fact that Mr. Ressam is not an American citizen and despite the fact that he entered this country intent upon killing American citizens, he received an effective, vigorous defense, and the opportunity to have his guilt or innocence determined by a jury of 12 ordinary citizens.
Most importantly, all of this occurred in the sunlight of a public trial. There were no secret proceedings, no indefinite detention, no denial of counsel. {emphasis switzer's}
The tragedy of September 11th shook our sense of security and made us realize that we, too, are vulnerable to acts of terrorism.
Unfortunately, some believe that this threat renders our Constitution obsolete. This is a Constitution for which men and women have died and continue to die and which has made us a model among nations. If that view is allowed to prevail, the terrorists will have won.
It is my sworn duty, and as long as there is breath in my body I'll perform it, to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. We will be in recess.

about the 'damage' on the launched shuttle; could
be very SERIOUS, otherwise what's the urgency to

How serious is the damage, we'll know ONLY when this shuttle makes the RENTRY before the landing
Till then, NASA can keep it as well guarded secret
Are you angry yet?
Subject: Are you angry?
The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have already cost taxpayers $314 billion, and the Congressional Budget Office projects additional expenses of perhaps $450 billion over the next 10 years.
That's $2400 for each and every American man, woman and child, no matter the age. So, if you are married, with two kids, that's $9700 (plus accruing interest) this war will cost you. And since your parents are probably past the point where they can contribute their $2400, then their share will fall on you as well. That's nearly $20,000 for a family of four with in-laws surviving but retired.
And all for a war started with lies and deceptions.
Imagine how much education you could get for your kids with $20,000 (assuming they are not drafted and killed).
Are you angry yet? If not, there is something really wrong with you.
$1.5 Billion Giveaway Secretly Slipped into Energy Bill, Waxman Says
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2005/072705T.shtml
In a letter to Speaker Hastert, Rep. Waxman writes that after the energy legislation was closed to further amendment in the recently concluded conference, a $1.5 billion provision benefiting oil and gas companies, Halliburton, and Sugar Land, Texas, was mysteriously inserted in the text.
Just saw this on TalkingPoints...link to this:
DeLay Still Up To Dirty Tricks
Tom DeLay thinks the federal treasury is his personal piggy bank. DeLay slipped “a $1.5 billion giveaway to the oil industry, Halliburton, and Sugar Land, Texas” into the energy bill.
But this isn’t a normal case of government pork. DeLay has completely dispensed with the democratic process. From a letter Rep. Henry Waxman just sent Speaker Dennis Hastert:
The provision was inserted into the energy legislation after the conference was closed, so members of the conference committee had no opportunity to consider or reject this measure.
The $1.5 billion won’t be administered by the government by a private consortium in DeLay’s district:
The subtitle appears to steer the administration of 75% of the $1.5 billion fund to a private consortium located in the district of Majority Leader Tom DeLay. Ordinarily, a large fund like this would be administered directly by the government.
Hastert and DeLay need to explain themselves immediately. No member of Congress who takes taxpayer dollars seriously should vote for the energy bill until this matter is resolved.
Who's Taking Blame for Christian Violence?
By Calvin White
07/26/05 "Toronto Star" - - Now that imams in Britain and Canada are standing up and publicly condemning terrorist acts as anti-Muslim and against the teachings in the Qur'an, I wonder if pressure might be put on Christian leaders to take a similar stand.
Contrary to what some might like to insist, Christianity is not the religion of "an eye for an eye" but it is the religion of Jesus, who refined those earlier directions and distilled the ten commandments into two. One was to "love thy neighbor as thyself." Pretty definitive isn't it? As is the edict of turning the other cheek.
Jesus expected to be betrayed. He expected to be arrested by the authorities. There was no exhortations to prepare for battle. There was no bloody attempt to stop the proceedings.

Someone sent me an email and it was questions about whether i had heard that the number of amer. dead in Iraq is 9,000....not 1,700. That is because of them dying outside of Iraq borders, like in hospital in Germany of USA. I remember that someone posted that here (not with the figures) ...just thought I would follow up.
Are we angry yet? (And Pat C...you and I posted the same article at the same time....!)
Don't know about you all, but I am mighty sick and tired of this scenario coming from these yahoos....sick, tired AND angry........
Is it true??
Has a law been passed in US which, next year, will require driver's liciences to have a chip imbedded which gives access to all personal info via satelite or other equip?
Today, a client(moved from US to Canada) of mine informed me that this law is a done deal, and had been slipped in under the guise of other legislation.
Is this true???
Major ramifications if so.
Trudy
Trudy, did a search on the internet very quickly on microchips in driver's licenses and only found on relative site...and it is on bibly prohecy which they call the mark of the beast. If it is in anything, it would be in the revised and new Patriot Act bill..
Judi
Hope you are right!!
Thanks!!
Trudy
Trudy....I wouldn't put it past the SOB's to do this....militant fascist that they are....
Judi
My client stated that all personal info would become accessible including monetary transactions...scary.
Trudy
Hate to break it to you, but they already are....believe me...! In a number of ways, although the secret gov't ops people do numerous different ways of hiding the laundering of money, there are still trails everywhere. For ordinary folk, tax id and soc sec numbers. check out Tom Flocco.com

Financial paper trails to 9/11. Every transaction over $9,999.99 is recorded everywhere!
I do know that there are people behind the Patriot Act who want a national ID card, and it would be, most likely, a 'smart card'. Whether this rethug power jams it thru or not, we will see.
Anyone else know anything?
"Find Opportunities"
Mr. Rumsfeld also said Iraq should "find opportunities" to thank allied countries for their contributions over the past several months.

It's almost a parody...
Prometheus gives the "gift" of fire to mortal mankind, by hurling it at them in great, destructive bolts from the sky, incinerating the majority of his hapless "benefactees" in the process. Then, as Prometheus is being led away to be eternally punished for his thievery, he grumbles about how ungrateful the mortals were for his gift... which they never asked for in the first place.
In the words of Cool Hand Luke, "I wish you'd stop bein' so good to me, Captain."
If you check out the links above for numbers of Iraqis killed, you will find that a very disportionate number were CHILDREN...
I posted last night on last thread that these jackals are changing the name of GWOT... Helena Cobban at justworldnews.org...
"...The discourse of "civilization", as presented by Rumsfeld last Friday, when he addressed an audience at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. According to that NYT report, at that event,
Mr. Rumsfeld described America's efforts as it "wages the global struggle against the enemies of freedom, the enemies of civilization."
The use of the discourse of "civilization" to mask the true content of strategies of global domination is, sadly, as old as globe-girdling colonialism itself. The British used it in Tasmania as they exterminated the indigenous peoples there... The Germans used it in South West Africa as they did likewise... The Spanish used it in Central America as they...
And now, Donald Rumsfeld.
You might think that an administration that has brought us the kinds of abuses that continue in detention centers and military prisons from Guantanamo to Bagram to Baghdad might be ashamed to even mention the word "civilization"??
But no. These guys apparently lack any capacity for either shame or self-awareness. A sad day for "civilization", I would say.

CAFTA passed the House by only a couple of votes at 12:04am, EDT. Fifteen Democrats voted for CAFTA. I want to know who they are.
These are the 15 being reported on DU, you cannot get onto the government site right now (could earlier) and these are the names of the 15 democrats. Thank you Bill Clinton, you got the ball rolling with Nafta.

NASA grounding the shuttle fleet? What fleet? They make it sound huge. But in reality, there's only Endeavor and Atlantis left, other than Discovery. Both of them, I believe, were built from spare parts left over from building Discovery, Challenger and Columbia.
The shuttles are 30 years old and way past obsolete to keep in use, much like the existing lines of Republican/Conservative paranoid thought running amok in our government and society. And like the Republican Ways, the shuttles desperately need to be put down, or shut down, so we can get back to the future.
Unfortunately, the GOP isn't under the same tight reigns as NASA. If NASA loses Discovery on re-entry, it's pretty much "Game Over" for them and the manned space program for a very long time.
Some very interesting posts concerning the astrology of the shuttle launch on Noel Tyl's site, start with this one:
http://www.noeltyl.com/cgibin/index.cgi?read=76944
On July 26, in the morning before the launch of the current Shuttle, I saw in the horoscope very poor portents for that mission.
I did not want to precede the mission with a doom and gloom prediction posted on the Forum; I hoped it would be transcended, and I still do, of course. --But I did register astrology's prediction at that time with an objective third party. Unfortunately, that prediction has been proved.
CNN has announced that NASA has "grounded" the Shuttle fleet!
The launch was July 26, 2005 at 10;39 AM EDT at Cape Canaveral, Asc 24 Virgo 18.
The flight should never have been allowed to procede; any skilled astrologer would have advised NASA accordingly:
1. Virgo Ascendant (Mercury ruler: travel); Mercury is retrograde and opposed by Neptune!
2. The Sun is conjoined by Saturn and that conjunction is squared by Mars (having to prove something big-time). This Sun rules the 12th. It is an extremely confining and debilitating aspect picture. Yes, Saturn rules insulation against cold, against heat ... the problems that developed immediately upon launch.
3. Saturn and Neptune are clearly the difficult aspect sources, and the two planets are in extremely tight quindecile to each other. --I.e., Points 1 and 2 are tied very strongly together in a negative statement.
4. At launch, Uranus was quindecile to the Ascendant. This suggests large electrical complications, yet to be seen.
5. Pluto opposed the Midheaven suggests that this flight will go into the history books. Note that it is trine with Mercury, ruler of the Midheaven and the Ascendant.
*********NASA: please let astrology help with these mission schedules.*****
Please bring the ship home safely.

Moran of VA shocks me. He isn't one of the usual suspects. I'm so tired of being horrified.
Well, this is interesting.
Greetings Catholics for Faithful Citizenship,
As you know, the extremist House Majority Leadership pulled its usual tactics to pass a bad trade agreement for America last night by breaking House Rules and leaving the vote open past the allotted 15 minutes, so back room deals and arm twisting could be done at the expense of American jobs and the lives of millions in Central America. Below are Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s remarks to the House prior to the vote. We will issue a press release today identifying those Catholic Members of the House, both Democrat and Republican who went against a culture of life and the Bishops advice.
Best Regards and God Bless,

Case of C.I.A. Officer's Leaked Identity Takes New Turn
WASHINGTON, July 26 - In the same week in July 2003 in which Bush administration officials told a syndicated columnist and a Time magazine reporter that a C.I.A. officer had initiated her husband's mission to Niger, an administration official provided a Washington Post reporter with a similar account.
The first two episodes, involving the columnist Robert D. Novak and the reporter Matthew Cooper, have become the subjects of intense scrutiny in recent weeks. But little attention has been paid to what The Post reporter, Walter Pincus, has recently described as a separate exchange on July 12, 2003.
In that exchange, Mr. Pincus says, "an administration official, who was talking to me confidentially about a matter involving alleged Iraqi nuclear activities, veered off the precise matter we were discussing and told me that the White House had not paid attention" to the trip to Niger by Joseph C. Wilson IV "because it was a boondoggle arranged by his wife, an analyst with the agency who was working on weapons of mass destruction."

................Japan embarks on journey to center of the Earth to study birth of life
-------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese scientists are preparing to dig deep inside the Earth for the first time in human history to unlock the mysteries of life in an attempt to figure out how civilization came to be and how to save it.
The researchers will collect the first samples of the Earth's mantle for clues on the primitive organisms that were the forerunners of life -- and study tectonic plates that could shake the planet's foundations.
"Deep underground -- under high pressure, high temperature, with little air -- is the environment similar to the time when the Earth was created? By collecting geological samples from there, we might find biological beings that might have existed when the Earth was born," says Jun Fukutomi, an official with the Center for Deep Earth Exploration (CDEX).
"Samples of the Earth's mantle and crust will also tell us how the Earth's climate has changed in the past. Analysis of these data should give us clues as to how the Earth's environment will change in the future," he says. ...cont'd

It just occurred to me.....duh....CAFTA was passed while Mercury is retrograde.
From Daykeeper Journal:
THURSDAY JULY 28
Moon continues in Taurus, with visionary aspects. The future calls. Early this morning, Mars enters Taurus to begin a six-month fateful journey in that sign. On October 1 Mars turns retrograde at 24 Taurus. It was here that Jupiter and Saturn joined in 2000 to start the final earth-sign (for 600 years) 20-year social cycle. Mars will be penetrating that spot for most of September and October. Its Taurean character means that the current social cycle, for all of earth, emphasizes material and money. (The last Taurus cycle was during the age of the Robber Barons.) I believe that next fall, Mars will render a blow to the value system which now prevails, represented by money. This will, in fact, begin now. Watch the signs.
Mars begins this long Taurean journey with a square to Chiron, who does disturb the status quo, especially in Aquarius. Next (Sunday) it squares Saturn, who puts obstacles and realism in its path. Mars will carry this Chiron-Saturn energy with it for its entire trip through Taurus. This is a much more sober Mars than was the free-wheeling Aries Mars which we’ve been experiencing since mid-June.
What a month of ups and downs, and energy changes!
FRIDAY JULY 29
Moon is VOC in Taurus for the entire day. If you can take off now for the weekend, do it. Tonight, at 10:02 p.m. EDT, Moon enters Gemini, and we’ll feel more active. But still, the mood is serious.
SATURDAY JULY 30
We have another Saturday with moon in Gemini, and we can do a lot of running around, and communicating. This should be a pleasant, quirky day, with a fine evening.
SUNDAY JULY 31
There is surprising news today. Perhaps people in the U.S. are mobilizing against the actions of their government. Mars squares Saturn to arouse harsh energy. Mars is on the midheaven on the west coast, with Saturn on the Ascendant. This is also potential earth movement energy; Saturn is associated with earth.
Mercury is retrograde now, and we leave July with a lot to think about.

From Huffingtonpost:
Not everyone in the Times building is on the same page when it comes to Judy Miller. The official story the paper is sticking to is that Miller is a heroic martyr, sacrificing her freedom in the name of journalistic integrity.
But a very different scenario is being floated in the halls. Here it is: It's July 6, 2003, and Joe Wilson's now famous op-ed piece appears in the Times, raising the idea that the Bush administration has "manipulate[d]" and "twisted" intelligence "to exaggerate the Iraqi threat." Miller, who has been pushing this manipulated, twisted, and exaggerated intel in the Times for months, goes ballistic. Someone is using the pages of her own paper to call into question the justification for the war -- and, indirectly, much of her reporting. The idea that intelligence was being fixed goes to the heart of Miller's credibility. So she calls her friends in the intelligence community and asks, Who is this guy? She finds out he's married to a CIA agent. She then passes on the info about Mrs. Wilson to Scooter Libby (Newsday has identified a meeting Miller had on July 8 in Washington with an "unnamed government official"). Maybe Miller tells Rove too -- or Libby does. The White House hatchet men turn around and tell Novak and Cooper. The story gets out.
This is why Miller doesn't want to reveal her "source" at the White House -- because she was the source. Sure, she first got the info from someone else, and the odds are she wasn't the only one who clued in Libby and/or Rove (the State Dept. memo likely played a role too)… but, in this scenario, Miller certainly wasn't an innocent writer caught up in the whirl of history. She had a starring role in it. This also explains why Miller never wrote a story about Plame, because her goal wasn't to write a story, but to get out the story that cast doubts on Wilson's motives. Which Novak did.

In the late 1980's, with passage of legislation pertaining to the "war on drugs," a provision required the reporting to the feds by banks of any transactions of $10,000.00 or more.
I believe it was by the end of the 1990s that this provision was changed, and the new amount for banks reporting to the feds is now $3,000.00.
Additionally, with passage of the Patriot Act, banks are now required to obtain one of a person's credit card numbers that is attached to your bank account for federal documentation reporting purposes. This is in addition to your social security number.
I have saved on my computer two articles pertaining to VeriChip and Real ID that may answer Trudy's question to some extent. Will post snippets below.
Pat C, what a wonderful gift. I love that article by Ariana. She's so on target. Judi Miller has been a "very bad girl" and the NYT is in for a rock ride...their board better clean house when this breaks, and that includes the Sulzberger nepotism crew.

Congress just passed it and Dubya has promised to sign it...Real ID...a new...type of driver's license for all Americans, replacing your current license and replacing your Social Security card...every person...shall...be traceable and watchable...we will all soon be required by law to carry this...computerized ID card with us at all times, packed...with... personal, digitized info about you...
Real ID is coming very soon. The legislation was passed with little outcry and zero debate by both House and Senate just last week because lawmakers snuck it into a massive $82 billion military spending bill...
The new law will...require everyone to hand over...four types of documentation to renew their driver's license, such as a photo ID, a birth certificate, proof that their Social Security number is legit and something that validates their home address, like a phone bill. DMV employees will...verify the documents against...federal databases and store the documents and a digital photo of you in a database...
...the card's design plan includes multiple openings for the Homeland Security Department to add on...
Computer (RFID) microchip...Digital fingerprint...Political affiliation...Web-site-visit log...religious affiliation...arrest record...medical history...
Real ID is...giving civil liberties groups...hives. State governors across the nation are none too happy, either, as implementation of the new law will cost each state hundreds of millions of dollars, but, of course, the bill provides zero federal funds to help...

Bar code implant calls up medical data
FDA approval draws fire from advocates of personal privacy
Rob Stein, Washington Post
Thursday, October 14, 2004
Washington -- A microchip that can be implanted under the skin to give doctors instant access to a patient's records was approved by the government Wednesday, a step that could revolutionize medical care but is raising alarm among privacy advocates. The tiny electronic capsule, the first such device to receive Food and Drug Administration approval, transmits a unique code to a special scanner that allows doctors to confirm a patient's identity and obtain detailed medical information from an accompanying database...
Doctors would scan patients like cans at a grocery store...
The VeriChip technology was developed to track livestock and has been implanted in about 1 million cats and dogs to identify lost or stolen house pets...
The company is investigating other applications...
the company has also developed a device that allows satellites to pinpoint a chip's location...
...The devices are injected with a syringe under the skin of the upper arm in a painless procedure that takes less than 20 minutes...
Marc Rotenberg, executive director of the Electronic Privacy Information Center in Washington, D.C., said he was concerned that people might be forced to get the implants.
Meanwhile, the chip has been used for pure whimsy: Club hoppers in Barcelona, Spain, now use the microchip to enter a VIP area and, through links to a different database, speed payment, much like a smartcard.

Mike, happy birthday and I believe you are 39. I think I'll choose 39 when my birthday rolls around in September.
I hope Guido is sober enough to wish you a happy birthday too.

Jay Leno: “The White House announced today that President Bush is on the last page of the new Harry Potter book. So, apparently he's reading it backwards.”
Jay Leno: “It looks like there may be more, more people than just Karl Rove involved in this White House leaking scandal that's been going on. They now say information may have also been leaked by Vice President Dick Cheney's top aide, a man named Scooter Libby. Let me tell you something right now, okay? That is not a good name to have if you're going to prison.”

The Average Iraqi has benefitted tremendously from [bushaLush]'s selfless crusade to cleanse Texraq of the WMD which, had they ever actually existed, might very well have proved massively destructive. Today, despite the global non-Fox media's lurid fixation on a microscopic handful of non-stop assassinations & spectacular bombings thruout Vietraq, the avg Iraqazoid is content – jubilant, even – in the knowledge that his smoldering, foreign-occupied police state is a gleaming symbol of [necroporn]-invented FREEDOM®. Happy Birthday Mike -
I assume when you mentioned Frank Capra - the
movie you referred to was Mr Smith Goes to Washington - with James Stewart. That was 1939 -
so it makes you 66.
If it was another movie you are talking about it
could be as early as 1934. (It Happened One Night)
Well you do live in the DC area, what else is a
good detective to surmise?
jc, what happened in Texas recently had to do with long range problems, not short term. The progressed charts of Perry and Texas just don't look good with Saturn going into Leo and Neptune in Aquarius. Also Perry is coming out from under a Saturn transit. Saturns effects are slow and long term. Saturn gives a person or a country to do the right thing from the time it goes into a sign. Texas, as an example has been running a little side business of lying and stealing, they have had two and a half years to clean up their act, they haven't and they are approaching a Saturn oppose Saturn indicating a new day is coming. Rick Perry has Pluto transiting his Chiron, he has recently sustained a "wounding" physical, mental or emotional. Pluto continues to conjoin his Chiron right on through October. Neither Texas or Perry is out of the woods.
My experience with hard transiting planets and the universe, people or countries seem to get first a brush on the cheek, if they don't get that, the gods give them a shove, if not that the two by four comes and if not that then the bullet. This can go over several years, but eventually the bullet comes and Texas by progression as well as Perry are coming up to that time. This was one of their shoves.
We make a mistake if we look at everything as if it might happen next month.
I usually just lurk here, but something has come up and I'm hoping one of the very talented AW folks can provide some guidance. Please feel free to contact me directly rather than answering to the board in general, since I can only check the board once a day (no computer access at home.)
I have just had a performance review that utterly shattered me; I've been working SO hard, such long hours, taking on additional projects, etc. But it turns out that I'm perceived as angry by my boss, even though I've gotten feedback from two different counselors (one neuropsych, one MFC) that while my life circumstances could certainly generate some depressions, neither of them detected any anger. Neither did my psychic counselor.
Another part of this issue is that five years ago, I suffered a very severe concussion in a work-related accident. Despite therapy and the length of time it's been, I have not recovered my language ability (for reading comprehension or writing, which is a big part of my job) or my concentration - and our office is chaotic most of the time, which makes it very difficult for me to function.
It has been suggested that I look for another job at the University, or that I get re-evaluated by the workers' comp folks (and of course, lovely Ah-nold has eviscerated California's workers comp programs since this occurred) in hopes that I might get reclassified as a higher level of permanent disability.
If anyone has some input on how to handle this or how it will all shake out in the long run, I'd like to hear it. Birthdate is 10.10.47 at around 7:30 pm (I know my rising sign is 26 Taurus) in Visalia, California.
Thanks very much for any suggestions, and I apologize for using AW bandwith for a personal request - but I don't know where else to go and I trust all of you.
