This if OT, but wanted to info y'all of a program you might not know about... my daughter had her very long hair cut last night... and donated a 10" pony tail to 'Locks of Love' --- hair is used to make wigs for patients w/ Cancer undergoing chemo... youngest grand thinks she is copying his 'Mohawk' --- but thinks she's a very giving person anyway. So, if the summer heat is leading to shedding your locks, be sure they are saved. You can contribute any amount, doesn't have to be 10 inches.

Which brings some other ideas to mind. There are summer camps in our County that provide meals for children whose parents can't afford them. These camps can use old toys your children or grands have outgrown. There may be some in your area. And nursing homes... if you have flowers falling off their bushes in your gardens, these seniors would appreciate them. We took buckets of gardenias this past week... our bushes are over flowing.

And Sally reminded us a thread or two back, to visualize these guys out of office... I plan to work on that, this waxing of the moon...

BAGHDAD - US F-16 fighter planes dropped a series of 220kg bombs on insurgent targets in western Iraq overnight as the US military launched a heavy offensive against rebels near the Syrian border.

Nine of the powerful bombs were dropped, the US military said, two of them targeting suspected rebel safe houses near the town of Qaim, an insurgent stronghold on the Euphrates river about 20km east of Iraq's border with Syria.

Four more were aimed at rebels as they fired mortars and assault rifles at US ground forces near Qaim, and a further three were used to hit suspected weapons caches in the area.

WASHINGTON - Highly classified documents leaked in Britain appear to provide new evidence that President Bush and his national security team decided to invade Iraq much earlier than they have acknowledged and marched to war without dwelling on the potential perils.

The half-dozen memos and option papers, written by top aides to British Prime Minister Tony Blair, buttress previous on-the-record accounts that portray Bush and his advisers as predisposed to oust Saddam Hussein when they took office - and determined to do it at all costs after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Blair is Bush's closest global partner, and the documents, startlingly frank at times, were never meant to become public.

Now they have rocketed around the Internet and been seized on by opponents of the Iraq war as evidence that the president and his administration were not leveling with the American people about their war preparations.

By mid-March 2002, a year before the invasion of Iraq, top British officials were already so resigned to a war that they seemed preoccupied mostly with building international support and finding a legal justification.

That was just six weeks after Bush declared Iraq a member of the "axis of evil."

With public support dropping, Congress begins to question strategy

WASHINGTON — Two years after the Iraq invasion, America seems to be losing its stomach for war.

With polls finding support for the Iraq war at a record low, members of Congress are becoming increasingly vocal about their desire for an exit strategy. On Thursday, 41 House Democrats formed a new "Out of Iraq" caucus.

Separately, four lawmakers — two Democrats and two Republicans — introduced a resolution calling for withdrawal starting in October 2006. It doesn't specify an end-point for a complete withdrawal, but it bucks the Bush administration line all the same.

Its sponsors include Rep. Walter Jones, R-N.C., a conservative whose district includes the Marine Corps' Camp Lejeune. He's hardly a stereotypical dove. In the early days of the war, Jones' anger over French opposition prompted him to propose replacing french fries with "freedom fries" on the menu in Capitol dining rooms.

Nervous about the home front, the Brits wanted assurances that the Americans wouldn't go barging in there like cowboys: the public had to be softened up first. Wolfowitz agreed, but Meyer noted that he had a "slightly different" focus from other administration figures. While Condi and Cheney were conjuring lurid images of nuclear fireballs blossoming over American cities, Wolfowitz was basically in favor of doing a repeat of the Clintonian strategy during the run-up to war with Serbia. You'll remember that the Serbians were said to have murdered 100,000 – or maybe 50,000 – or maybe 10,000 Kosovars. It was never quite clear. It's the old Belgian-babies-on-bayonets scam: dangle a few atrocities in front of peoples' eyes and soon you'll have them screaming for blood. "A lot of work" had been done on this during the reign of Bush I, said Wolfowitz. Meyer added: "Wolfowitz thought that this would go a long way to destroying any notion of moral equivalence between Iraq and Israel."

There is something awfully peculiar about the above quoted sentence, and that is the way it ends. The reader expects to hear the word "America," or "the allies," but instead we come face to face with the chief subject of Wolfowitz's concern: Israel, whose interests frame and define the Wolfowitzian view of the region. Israel was and is the great unadmitted factor in all this. As far as Wolfowitz is concerned, the reason we went to war was not to seize and defang Saddam's nonexistent "weapons of mass destruction," nor to sever his nonexistent links to al-Qaeda, but to secure Israel's interests in the region. That's why we're in Iraq today, and why we may be in Syria, Lebanon, and/or Iran tomorrow.

Michael Kinsley and a few minor imitators are telling us that all of this is nothing new – that is, the part about the lack of evidence for WMD, the skepticism of the Brits, the complete lack of confidence in the case the administration was making at the time. So what else is new? If we think of the process by which the memos have come to generate headlines, however, we have to look at it as a learning process on the part of the public. If it took several dozen repetitions to get them to believe a lie, then it may take that many – and more – to show them the truth. And not just the truth about how they were lied to, either. Tim Cavanaugh may be right that they stopped caring about that a long time ago. However, when they find out who lied us into war, and why – when they discover that American girls and boys are dying and being horribly wounded in order to make life a little bit easier for the Israeli state, and specifically for Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, I wonder if they'll begin to get a little hot under the collar. Particularly as our Justice Department rounds up a coven of Israeli spies in the Pentagon, and charges Israel's Washington lobbyists with espionage.

Yes, a good deal of this is "old news" – but the Israeli connection is new. And if, as there's ample reason to believe, it can be shown that the Israelis fed us (via Chalabi and the Office of Special Plans) a stream of lies to rationalize a war to save their asses, the growing scandal that they were stealing our secrets blind and selling weapons to China all along may well provide the tipping point in the public's attitude toward the war – and toward our "special relationship" with Israel.

The key, once again, is focusing, not on the lies themselves – most of us can repeat them in our sleep – but on who told them and the crimes they committed in the telling. When the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence looked into the intelligence-gathering that preceded the war, the Office of Special Plans and other obscure neocon-controlled governmental bodies were declared "off limits" to the first phase of the investigation – and then "Phase II" was indefinitely postponed.

Sen. John D. Rockefeller IV (D-W.Va.), co-chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, needs to get off his butt and get moving: If a foreign nation, namely Israel, was involved in an effort to lie us into war by feeding us false "intelligence" – and planting such intelligence via its agents in the U.S. government – then the American people have a right to know.

As I said on the eve of the invasion: "this war is treason." Once we find ourselves on the path to finding out that this is literally true, then I won't feel vindicated. Only sick to my stomach – and mad as hell.

Letter written by Congressman Conyers to Washington Post in responde to Dana Millbanks gross and disgusting article the other day. Beautifully written!

Dear Sirs:

I write to express my profound disappointment with Dana Milbank's June 17 report, "Democrats Play House to Rally Against the War," which purports to describe a Democratic hearing I chaired in the Capitol yesterday. In sum, the piece cherry-picks some facts, manufactures others out of whole cloth, and does a disservice to some 30 members of Congress who persevered under difficult circumstances, not of our own making, to examine a very serious subject: whether the American people were deliberately misled in the lead up to war. The fact that this was the Post's only coverage of this event makes the journalistic shortcomings in this piece even more egregious.

In an inaccurate piece of reporting that typifies the article, Milbank implies that one of the obstacles the Members in the meeting have is that "only one" member has mentioned the Downing Street Minutes on the floor of either the House or Senate. This is not only incorrect but misleading. In fact, just yesterday, the Senate Democratic Leader, Harry Reid, mentioned it on the Senate floor. Senator Boxer talked at some length about it at the recent confirmation hearing for the Ambassador to Iraq. The House Democratic Leader, Nancy Pelosi, recently signed on to my letter, along with 121 other Democrats asking for answers about the memo. This information is not difficult to find either. For example, the Reid speech was the subject of an AP wire service report posted on the Washington Post website with the headline "Democrats Cite Downing Street Memo in Bolton Fight". Other similar mistakes, mischaracterizations and cheap shots are littered throughout the article.

The article begins with an especially mean and nasty tone, claiming that House Democrats "pretended" a small conference was the Judiciary Committee hearing room and deriding the decor of the room. Milbank fails to share with his readers one essential fact: the reason the hearing was held in that room, an important piece of context. Despite the fact that a number of other suitable rooms were available in the Capitol and House office buildings, Republicans declined my request for each and every one of them. Milbank could have written about the perseverance of many of my colleagues in the face of such adverse circumstances, but declined to do so. Milbank also ignores the critical fact picked up by the AP, CNN and other newsletters that at the very moment the hearing was scheduled to begin, the Republican Leadership scheduled an almost unprecedented number of 11 consecutive floor votes, making it next to impossible for most Members to participate in the first hour and one half of the hearing.

In what can only be described as a deliberate effort to discredit the entire hearing, Milbank quotes one of the witnesses as making an anti-semitic assertion and further describes anti-semitic literature that was being handed out in the overflow room for the event. First, let me be clear: I consider myself to be friend and supporter of Israel and there were a number of other staunchly pro-Israel members who were in attendance at the hearing. I do not agree with, support, or condone any comments asserting Israeli control over U.S. policy, and I find any allegation that Israel is trying to dominate the world or had anything to do with the September 11 tragedy disgusting and offensive.

That said, to give such emphasis to 100 seconds of a 3 hour and five minute hearing that included the powerful and sad testimony (hardly mentioned by Milbank) of a woman who lost her son in the Iraq war and now feels lied to as a result of the Downing Street Minutes, is incredibly misleading. Many, many different pamphlets were being passed out at the overflow room, including pamphlets about getting out of the Iraq war and anti-Central American Free Trade Agreement, and it is puzzling why Milbank saw fit to only mention the one he did.

In a typically derisive and uninformed passage, Milbank makes much of other lawmakers calling me "Mr. Chairman" and says I liked it so much that I used "chairmanly phrases." Milbank may not know that I was the Chairman of the House Government Operations Committee from 1988 to 1994. By protocol and tradition in the House, once you have been a Chairman you are always referred to as such. Thus, there was nothing unusual about my being referred to as Mr. Chairman.

To administer his coup-de-grace, Milbank literally makes up another cheap shot that I "was having so much fun that [I] ignored aides' entreaties to end the session." This did not occur. None of my aides offered entreaties to end the session and I have no idea where Milbank gets that information. The hearing certainly ran longer than expected, but that was because so many Members of Congress persevered under very difficult circumstances to attend, and I thought - given that - the least I could do was allow them to say their piece. That is called courtesy, not "fun."

By the way, the "Downing Street Memo" is actually the minutes of a British cabinet meeting. In the meeting, British officials - having just met with their American counterparts - describe their discussions with such counterparts. I mention this because that basic piece of context, a simple description of the memo, is found nowhere in Milbank's article.

The fact that I and my fellow Democrats had to stuff a hearing into a room the size of a large closet to hold a hearing on an important issue shouldn't make us the object of ridicule. In my opinion, the ridicule should be placed in two places: first, at the feet of Republicans who are so afraid to discuss ideas and facts that they try to sabotage our efforts to do so; and second, on Dana Milbank and the Washington Post, who do not feel the need to give serious coverage on a serious hearing about a serious matter-whether more than 1700 Americans have died because of a deliberate lie. Milbank may disagree, but the Post certainly owed its readers some coverage of that viewpoint.

First Round of Iran's Presidential Elections Inconclusive
Turnout Stronger than Expected

The Presidential elections in Iran produced a messy result that will require a run-off between the two top candidates. The final outcome won't be clear until Saturday afternoon at least, but it seems that former president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani will be one of the two.

Turnout was about 60 percent, better than expected. That is slightly bigger than the turnout in Iraq's recent elections.

The problem for voters seeking genuine change is that the hardline clerics have found ways to blunt progressive movements. It remains to be seen if a new president will be able to outmaneuver them. The Iranian public appears to be voting for candidates with strong personalities who might be able to accomplish something nevertheless

According to medieval authors, Saturn is in detriment in this sign. This means that aquarian principles like cooperation, humanitarianism and compromise are not well supported here. Bill Clinton didn't have an issue with self expression because of the reception from the Sun in Leo and a very powerful Venus in Libra rising. Gore is said to come acoss as "stiff and wooden". Hitler simply defined himself as the state of Germany ignoring the conflict between Saturnian issues and individuality. [8a]

In a diurnal chart, the heat diminishes the malefic qualities of Saturn. This individual has a clearer sense of identity and purpose because the agnoia is lessened. In some cases they aspire to political office and they generally make good executives. Leadership ability is present, but they often suffer from great opposition. This opposition usually takes the form of others pointing out character flaws and accusing the native of a lack of integrity. In this case, the native must learn the lesson of humility.

In a nocturnal chart, the cool and moist of night exasperate the problem of self unknowing because there is less distinction between things alike and unlike the self. Thanks for the post on Saturn in Leo, wv. I find it particularly interesting since my Natal Saturn is at 23 Leo, meaning that my Saturn Return is coming up in late 2006 to 2007.

Acutally, I don't seem to have much problem at all with cooperation, humanitarianism and compromise. Wasn't always quite that way, but my progressed Moon crossed my natal and progressed Pluto in Libra about 5 years ago, pretty much ate me alive emotionally. But boy did that Pluto-Moon conjunction leave me a changed and more mature man! It could be that maybe I've come to realize the energy of my Natal Sun in Taurus in the very Aquarian Eleventh House, and that of my Natal Moon in Capricorn in the Libran Seventh House, so my life and emotional energy tends to be directed towards people, humanitarian-oriented ideas and causes and partnerships/relationships. Nice way to compensate, it seems. By the way, Bill Clinton also has his Natal Sun in the Eleventh House.

I definitely recognize the issues with self-expression part, however. Saturn does happen to be sitting in my Natal Third House. I've been told by several people that my writing is very eloquent and structured, but what they probably don't realize that getting to the end result is always for me, a long, drawn out process of trying to get things just right! I hated writing 10 and 20 page papers back in College when I knew I could have covered all of the same points without the long-drawn out discussion, within just 2 or 3 paragraphs.

Do you all know about Astrodeinst's 'extended horoscope' page with the listing of over 12,000 names of asteroids? The asteroids are great for pin pointing karmas and for TIMING!

The asteroid Jackson 2193 was transiting at 24 Taurus on 6/13/05. I guess it would help to have a natal chart or an horary chart to figure that asteroid's house placement and transits.

M., the free 43 pages don't get as far as "fear." Page 43 begins a list of switchwords starting with "a" and goes into a few words that begin with "b." They have the switchword for anger and agression, but don't go as far as fear. If you do write Nirav again, let us know what it is. At the same time "BE" is used for health and peace, and TOGETHER is the masterword used for everything, as far as I understand it, so you could try using those. I'm going to experiment with some of the free switchwords before I order the book. Let me know if you want me to copy the list on page 43 here.

I went to go hit a bucket of golf balls today. (Beautiful day, 85 and sunny). The place I go to is inhabited by crusty old men who scratch a lot and talk s#$% all day long. This is their retirement. I know this place to be pretty conservative so I just go to hit a bucket and not chew the fat.
Today I’m walking in to get my bucket and I hear one dude telling another in his heavy southern drawl "did you see the thing on C-SPAN with this COnyers feller?" That’s all I needed. I spent the next 45 minutes telling them about the petition, the work that’s been going on for weeks, and so on. They had a lot of questions and I was able to fill in some gaps in their information. There were other people listening and chiming in. Out of the 6 or 7 people there NOT ONE defended Bushit. Not one. Even guys who by looking at them you know are Republicans were piling on. They didn’t know how much Halliburton has stolen, as an example of information that they still don’t have. When I started to walk away and start hitting golf balls...

...Here it comes.....

The guy I originally started talking to says "I think there’s gonna be an impeachment".!!! EVERYONE ELSE WAS NODDING THEIR HEADS IN AGREEMENT.

Official Had Aide Send Data to White House

Tomlinson, extensively consulted a White House official shortly before she joined the corporation about creating an ombudsman's office to monitor the balance and objectivity of public television and radio programs.

Mr. Tomlinson said in an interview three months ago that he did not think he had instructed a subordinate to send material on the ombudsman project to Mary C. Andrews at her White House office in her final days as director of global communications, a political appointment.

But the e-mail messages show that a month before the interview, he directed Kathleen Cox, then president of the corporation, to send material to Ms. Andrews at her White House e-mail address. They show that Ms. Andrews worked on a variety of ombudsman issues before joining the corporation, while still on the White House payroll. And they show that the White House instructed the corporation on Ms. Andrews's job title in her new post.

The various forms of “Bush lied to take America into war" just don’t to grab attention anymore. Not long ago, it was a big deal to say a politician lied, but when people got angry enough, they dropped the euphemisms. Unfortunately, there have been so many lies the word is becoming hackneyed.

The key words are terrorized and hell-bent. This isn't hyperbole. These words evoke an accurate, detailed, picture of his crimes:

Terrorize: To coerce by intimidation or fear.

Hell-bent: Recklessly determined."

I have never been able to get over how we fixate on George Bush, whether we like him or not he has become the symbol of what we are against. It's not George Bush, he is only a prop to the real problem and those people are pulling international strings. If there was ever a propitious time for what is called the anti-Christ, it's now. We are all looking so hard for someone to save us from the Bush cartel, we would accept the devil himself if he seemed nice and we would be right back to giving our power away to another prop.

I don't think there has been a week go by in the last 5 years that I haven't been stunned, shocked, appalled and thought if the people just could hear this or see this we would rise up and remove this gang of thugs, but there isn't any vehicle to do so. Not Congress, not the media, not the Judiciary, no one and that is our dilemma. When this is done, rebuilding is going to take some hard work and creativity, thank heavens Uranus will be in Aries and hopefully that will infuse us with initiative and energy. One thing for sure, I am going to hold out for honesty in government and would love to give the boot to the PR firms.

Conyers vs. The Post

There is painful irony in the fact that, during the same month that the confirmation of "Deep Throat's" identity has allowed the Washington Post to relive its Watergate-era glory days, that newspaper is blowing the dramatically more significant story of the "fixed" intelligence the Bush administration used to scam Congress and U.S. allies into supporting the disasterous invasion and occupation of Iraq.

Last week, when the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, Michigan Democrat John Conyers, chaired an extraordinary hearing on what has come to be known as the "Downing Street Memo" -- details of pre-war meetings where aides to British Prime Minister Tony Blair discussed the fact that, while the case for war was "thin," the Bush administration was busy making sure that "the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy" -- the Post ridiculed Conyers and the dozens of other members of Congress who are trying to get to the bottom of a scandal that former White House counsel John Dean has correctly identified as "worse than Watergate."

Post writer Dana Milbank penned a snarky little piece that, like similar articles in the New York Times and other "newspapers of record," displayed all the skepticism regarding Bush administration misdeeds that one might expect to find in a White House press release.

To his credit, Conyers hit back.

The years of the Bush presidency will be remembered as a time when American media, for the most part, practiced stenography to power -- and when once-great newspapers became little more than what the reformers of another time referred to as "the kept press."

The Conyers letter, like the thousands of communications from grassroots activists to media outlets across this country pressing for serious coverage of the "Downing Street Memo" and the broader debate about the Bush administration's doctoring of intelligence prior to the launch of the Iraq war, is an essential response to our contemporary media crisis. That it had to be written provides evidence of just how serious that crisis has grown.

I think you are right Sally. I do also think that Bush et al have caused people to be more concious of the hidden hands of the elite. That's the most positive thing Bush could have given to the world....that and "that guy" who you would like to have a beer with, is not that guy at all.

Sally, it goes so deep in the psyche and it's so hard to root out. Honesty is not rewarded by society. Image is everything, and the more inaccurate the reflection, the more people seem to buy it. Then comes reality television as some attempt to get in touch with this lost dimension. They refuse to look at life as is, and continue to peer into screens to save them from the sight.

They worship criminals and monsters. Can't seem to get enough. In their books, movies, television shows, they scream. There are some perfectly decent people that could represent us, but the people always seem to bypass them for the more frightening, melodramatic, destructively powerful, surgically altered, almost alien types. The public just worships negativity. The PR firms are only feeding their appetite. People seem to think that kindness is weak and sentimental, and not exciting. Not to be taken seriously.

I have been pondering this for a long time. What one can do to change this at the core.

PR firms play to addictive thinking. They feed the addiction, keeping as many as possible mezmrized in the commercial matrix.

British bombing raids were illegal, says Foreign Office

A SHARP increase in British and American bombing raids on Iraq in the run-up to war “to put pressure on the regime” was illegal under international law, according to leaked Foreign Office legal advice.

The advice was first provided to senior ministers in March 2002. Two months later RAF and USAF jets began “spikes of activity” designed to goad Saddam Hussein into retaliating and giving the allies a pretext for war.

The Foreign Office advice shows military action to pressurise the regime was “not consistent with” UN law, despite American claims that it was.

I also believe that the elite or whoever seems to be in charge are just caricatures of who we are collectively, and what we desire. The group certainly doesn't aspire to the simple life of humility, although the happiest people studied are without a lot of material wealth. We can't seem to get this straight. When I was eighteen years old traveling in India, an unusual, perceptive young Danish woman told me I was not honest with myself. I was alarmed and disturbed, and have thought about her comment all my life, trying to achieve just that. It is not easy.

It IS easy to pass the buck on this, and point out the deceptions and failures of those around us. Although that needs to be done, it is wise not to neglect thorough self analysis.

Too bad it's not just as simple as reincorporating the US under a new date to get a brand new natal chart. But of course, that would take a revolution. Two Top Guns Shoot Blanks

TO understand how the Bush administration has lost the public opinion war on Iraq it may be helpful to travel in H. G. Wells's time machine back to Oct. 30, 1938.

That was the Sunday night that Orson Welles staged the mother of all fake news events: his legendary radio adaptation of another Wells fantasy, "The War of the Worlds." The audience was told four times during the hourlong show that it was fiction, but to no avail. A month after Munich, Americans afflicted with war jitters were determined to believe the broadcast's phony news flashes that Martians had invaded New Jersey. Mobs fled their homes in a "wave of mass hysteria," as The New York Times described it on Page 1, clogging roads and communications systems. Two days later, in an editorial titled "Terror by Radio," The Times darkly observed that "what began as 'entertainment' might readily have ended in disaster" and warned radio officials to mind their "adult responsibilities" and think twice before again mingling "news technique with fiction so terrifying."

That's one Times editorial, it can be said without equivocation, that didn't make a dent. Nearly seven decades later the mingling of news and fiction has become the default setting of American infotainment, and Americans have become so inured to it that the innocent radio listeners bamboozled by Welles might as well belong to another civilization. Nowhere is the distance between that America and our own more visible than in the hoopla surrounding the latest adaptation of "The War of the Worlds," the much-awaited Steven Spielberg movie opening June 29.

Like its broadcast predecessor, the new version has already proved to be a launching pad for an onslaught of suspect news bulletins. This time the headlines are less earthshaking than an invasion from outer space, but they are no less ubiquitous: in repeated public appearances, most famously on "Oprah," the Spielberg movie's star, the 42-year-old Tom Cruise, has fallen to his knees and jumped on couches to declare his undying love for the 26-year-old Katie Holmes, the co-star of another summer spectacular, "Batman Begins." Forget about those bygone Hollywood studio schemes to concoct publicity-generating off-screen romances for its stars-in-training. Here is a lavishly produced freak show, designed to play out in real time, enthusiastically enacted by the biggest star in the business. On Friday, after popping the big question to Ms. Holmes at the Eiffel Tower, Mr. Cruise promptly dragged his intended to a news conference.

But though the audience for this drama is as large as, if not larger than, that for Welles's, there's one big difference. The Cruise-Holmes romance is proving less credible to Americans in 2005 than a Martian invasion did to those of 1938. A People magazine poll found that 62 percent deem the story a stunt. To tabloid devotees, the reasons for Mr. Cruise's credibility gap are the perennial unsubstantiated questions about his sexuality and his very public affiliation with a church, Scientology, literally founded by a science-fiction writer. But something bigger is going on here. The subversion of reality that Welles slyly introduced into modern American media in 1938 has reached its culmination and a jaded public is at last in open revolt.

The boundary between reality and fiction has now been blurred to such an extent by show business, the news business and government alike that almost no shows produced by any of them are instantly accepted as truth. The market for fake news has become so oversaturated that a skeptical public is finally dismissing most of it as hooey until proven otherwise (unless it is labeled as fake news from the get-go, as it is by Jon Stewart). We'll devour the supposedly real Cruise-Holmes liaison for laughs but give it no more credence than a subplot on "Desperate Housewives."

Welles unwittingly set us on the path toward the utter destabilization of reality with "War of the Worlds," and then compounded the syndrome with his subsequent film masterpiece "Citizen Kane," a fictional biography of a thinly disguised William Randolph Hearst that invented the pseudo-journalistic docudrama. But it's only in the past few years that Welles's ideas have been taken completely over the top by his trashy heirs. Not only do we have TV movies bastardizing the history of celebrities living and dead, but there is also a steady parade of "real" celebrities playing themselves in their own fictionalized "reality" shows. (This summer alone, Bobby Brown, Mötley Crüe's Tommy Lee, Hugh Hefner's girlfriends and Paris Hilton's mother are all getting their own series.) The Cruise-Holmes antics, not to mention the concurrent shenanigans of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, add yet another variant to this mix, shrewdly identified by Patrick Goldstein of The Los Angeles Times as "a new rogue genre in which celebrities act out their own reality show, free from the constraints of a network time slot or a staged setting, like a boardroom or a desert island."

Politicians who dive into this game by putting on their own reality shows think they are being very clever. But like Mr. Cruise, they're being busted by a backlash. John Kerry was the first to feel it: his stagy military pageant, complete with salute, at the Democratic National Convention came off as so phony that the greater (but more subtle) fictions of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth struck many as relatively real by comparison. George W. Bush proved a somewhat more accomplished performer - in his first term. With the help of Colin Powell and some nifty props, he effortlessly sold the country on Saddam W.M.D.'s. He got away with using a stunt turkey as the photo-op centerpiece during his surprise Thanksgiving 2003 visit to the troops in Iraq. His canned "Ask the President" campaign town-hall meetings - at which any potentially hostile questioner was either denied admittance or hustled out by goons - were slick enough to be paraded before unsuspecting viewers as actual news on local TV outlets, in the tradition of Welles's bogus "War of the Worlds" bulletins.

But the old magic is going kaput. Mr. Bush's 60-stop Social Security "presidential roadshow," his latest round of pre-scripted and heavily rehearsed faux town-hall meetings, hasn't repeated the success of "Ask the President." Support for private Social Security accounts actually declined as the tour played out and Mr. Bush increasingly sounded as if he were protesting too much. "See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda," the president said on May 24. He sounded as if he were channeling Mr. Cruise's desperate repetitions of his love for his "terrific lady."

The shelf life of the fakery that sold the war has also expired. On June 7, a Washington Post/ABC News poll found for the first time that a majority of Americans believe the war in Iraq has not made the United States safer. A week later Gallup found that a clear majority (59 percent) wants to withdraw some or all American troops. Most Americans tell pollsters the war isn't "worth it," and the top reasons they cite, said USA Today, include "fraudulent claims and no weapons of mass destruction found" and "the belief that Iraq posed no threat to the United States." The administration can keep boasting of the Iraqi military's progress in taking over for Americans and keep maintaining that, as Dick Cheney put it, the insurgency is in its "last throes." But when even the conservative Republican congressman who pushed the House cafeteria to rename French fries "freedom fries" (Walter B. Jones of North Carolina) argues for withdrawal, it's fruitless. Once a story line becomes incredible, it's hard to get the audience to fall for it again.

This, too, echoes the history of the Welles hoax. Three years after his "War of the Worlds," the real nightmare that America feared did arrive. Yet some radio listeners at first thought that the reports from Pearl Harbor were another ruse. Welles would later recall in an interview with Peter Bogdanovich that days after the Japanese attack, Franklin Roosevelt sent him a cable chiding him for having cried wolf with his faked war "news" of 1938.

Such is the overload of faked reality for Americans at this point that it will be far more difficult for the Bush administration than it was for F.D.R. to persuade the nation of an imminent threat without appearing to cry wolf. Nor can it easily get the country to believe that success in Iraq is just around the corner. Too many still remember that marvelous aircraft-carrier spectacle marking the end of "major combat operations" in Iraq - a fake reality show adapted, no less, from a Tom Cruise classic, "Top Gun." Some 25 months and 1,500 American deaths later, nothing short of a collaboration by Orson Welles and Steven Spielberg could make this war fly in America now.

  have to wonder: How do they think they'll get away with it? And yet, until now he has.

Yeah, I know. Apparently the Duke is 'renting' the boat. But how is it exactly that Mitchell Wade's boat got named the 'Duke Stir' anyway? He's a big John Wayne fan?

In any case, this is one of the things that always surprises me about Washington. There are many members of Congress -- hopefully most, but who knows? -- who are almost comically precise in following all the various rules and regulations about who has to pay for meals or whether some little trinket gift has to be reported. And when you're literal about them the rules are pretty broad and encompassing.

Even folks who get in trouble for campaign finance stuff are often breaking technical rules which, while important, don't go to issues of personal gain for the member of Congress involved. A lot of DeLay's troubles stem from Texas laws about corporate giving in political campaigns in the state.

And then you've got Duke Cunningham who appears to be more or less owned by a defense contractor with business before his committee. I mean, when you add up all we know, it seems like Mitchell Wade basically bought or heavily contributed to buying the Duke luxury homes (albeit, one waterborne) in the district and in Washington. And apparently no one noticed.

WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH AMERICA?

Thomas Frank just published another searing attack on the Republicans' manipulative evil, the Democrats' craven reaction to it, and how this has resulted in poor, helpless Middle America getting duped once again. In his New York Review of Books article, "What's the Matter with Liberals?" Frank, like nearly all of his fellow left-wing intellectuals, proves he is fearless when trashing the ideological elites in both parties (indeed, like the cream of the left elite, he is especially adept at trashing his own faction), but he's mysteriously pen-shy when it comes to the American people's enthusiastic role in this grand sucker-game.

In Frank's mind, innocent, vulnerable Middle America was sold on a Republican platform that promised a kind of cultural class war, with the right backing the beleaguered masses of zombie-worshipping imbeciles against the coastal cosmopolitan elite—only to get stuck with a massive post-election bill payable to the Republicans' corporate sponsors.

Well blow me down.

In all of these liberal/left attacks on the Republicans' propaganda con game, and the Dems' allegedly limp-dicked response, no one yet has the guts to say out loud what every leftie knows deep down: The American people are FUCKING CRAZY! They actually WANT to be duped! The reason why the Republican con game works is because most Americans WANT TO BE CONNED! They are enthusiastic slaves! Fierce lickspittles! Congenital bottomers! It makes perfect sense that Dems like Harry Reid and John Kerry moved as far to the crazy-right as they could possibly manage; they were trying to get as close to the rank heart of Middle America as possible. And still they failed.

The Republicans are selling a product that Middle America wants to buy, and it's a far better product than what the Democrats have to offer. That product is meanness. Americans are hooked on meanness, and that meanness is everywhere, particularly at the workplace, where American workers have been getting increasingly reamed for almost three decades. By this point, the brutal squeeze has been so deeply internalized that it is impossible to imagine—indeed, is offensive to consider—the possibility that someone might make life a little easier. The Republicans offer two things to their voters: to make life more miserable on people who seem to be happy (the coastal elite); and to increase the pain of the average Middle American, who, in the words of former GE chief Jack Welch, has "unlimited juice to squeeze."

President Bush and his administration have come under a lot of criticism for their handling of... well, for their handling of just about everything when it comes to foreign policy. Arguably, though, Bush’s strategy has not been based upon the evangelical Christianity assumed by so many but, rather, his own personal implementation of “Zen” philosophy.
Evan Eisenberg writes in The New Yorker (via Mark Kleiman):

Knowledge is not important. The armchair warrior strives to attain a state beyond knowledge, a state of deep, non-knowing connection to the universe: in particular, to that portion of the universe which is rich, powerful, or related to him by blood. The unenlightened speak of "failures of intelligence." But the armchair warrior knows that "intelligence"—the effort of the mind to observe facts, apply reason, and reach conclusions about what is true and what ought to be done—is a delusion...
The armchair warrior does not fear death, especially not the death of other people. The unenlightened mind is easily swayed by pictures. Since it fails to grasp that life and death are illusions, the sight of the flag-draped remains of those slain by the enemy may make it susceptible to weakness and feelings of pity. Therefore, the armchair warrior does not let the people see such images, except in settings that can be properly controlled, such as his own campaign advertisements.
Eisenberg’s article offers a very amusing, not to mention interesting, take on the current administration’s foreign policy tactic. If only it didn’t seem so accurate...

And now Smith wants us to believe that his legal secretary used "an old fashioned typewriter" to forge the Downing Street memos? When was the last time you saw an old fashioned typewriter, let alone use one? Why would you want to type them up on a typewritter instead of a computer? Was Smith trying to make them look more authentic? Was he trying to avoid his own Rathergate?

Now, let's think about this for a minute. The Democrats are Natally-emotionally(Moon) just 1 degree apart from the United States. Meanwhile, the Repugs, with a Natal Sun at 14 Cancer, are Natally-physically just 1 degree apart from the US' Natal Sun at 13 Cancer.

Dear Joanna, well I just logged on to post that I took a look at my progressions and realized that T. Pluto is directly opposing my Progressed Saturn at 23 Gemini. And that I got sick with the horrid sore throat right after T. Jupiter went direct at 8 Libra (which is opposite N. Mars at 8 Aries)...and then I looked at the Progressed Jupiter, and IT is right at 8 Libra. So my Saturn is going wildly out of bounds in Gemini and Mars/Jupiter (my Mars is in the 6th house of health) was probably in charge of the ring of fire in my throat. My natal Mercury is at 27 Taurus...ruler of the throat...say, THAT is wildly out of bounds too! Gee...you just can't make this stuff up!

Neobuckeye, I think you gave a great interpretation regarding the Republican sun, the Democratic moon, and the U.S. chart. I'm going to take another look at the charts for both political parties. I only understand the most basic of aspects so it's interesting to me that when Saturn transited the Bush and Republican Party sun, they both seeme to do very well. So when Saturn opposes the U.S./Democratic natal moons in August 2007, it may very well mean we will get our act together and also do well.

Thanks so much. I was wondering about the Dems chart. I completely agree with you that they are in touch with the heart of this country. The Republicans seem to force their issues more.

I think the dominant party changes with the times. Since we had Saturn in Cancer, we had to investigate that part of our character. But now that Saturn is leaving, I think things will change, and the Democrats will resonate more with our needs. Judi, about the map of the earth changes, I believe that the articles posted previously with information channeled by Kryon, Kirael and Matthew (I think I have those names right) all said that we have averted many of the previously predicted earth changes due to the level of spirituality now existing on earth. In fact, the Kryon info said that we will all be taken inside the earth and off the earth onto light ships by the time the changes are supposed to happen (the rapture?) IMHO, probably some of Cayce's predictions will happen, but not necessarily all of them. As far as the oceans rising, that is obviously happening but, as was said in the DU post, that seems like it will happen over time. Yes, coastal land in the Gulf and Southern Atlantic could become worthless, but won't we see it coming? Also, there is always the choice of building on stilts as they do in "stilt city" right outside Miami and Key Biscayne. I wouldn't lock my mind around this scenario. The truth is that psychic predictions can be very fluid & change according to changing conditions. Even if we assume the predictions will happen, Cayce & others have said that people will be guided to leave. The DU site you posted (now removed) listed Cayce's predictions and VA Beach, Indiana, Ohio, Southern & Eastern Canada were mentioned as being safe Havens. If I remember correctly from my reading of Cayce, so are Australia, New Zealand and Brazil.

I don't think they are fake at all and I don't think Conyers et al would have held the hearing if they wern't darn sure of their authenticity. On changing the negative habit... it's behavior modification which seems to be one of the few things that work in psychology. If positive behavior is reinforced, the human creature will repeat it. If we do that together, it will become habit. It might not be as hard as we think. The behavior actually develops different neural pathways in the brain. And as the negative neurons are not used, they atrophy, or reroute. It happens quickly.
It really starts small from the center and works outward. The more individuals develop these habits, and stick to them, the more they will attract others.
We have to make sure others don't influence us to abandon the virtues.

This is all from melting ice caps....we are moving into a new era, and it can happen fast, all though this is slow....

He described a man who was there for his friends. He talked about the soldier's family. And he described a man who performed his duty well, whatever it was. And then he cried. There is something about a grown infantryman crying.

'This was a man with a family. He was a man with friends & people who depended on him. He died in pursuit of a vain war. He did die honorably; if it wasn't for him his entire squad might have been dead. But no member of his squad s/h even been in that situation. The Iraq war has caused so much sadness, both for us & for the Iraqis. It was an unnecessary invasion, & we have done little good for the country in the yrs since we've been there. I almost cried today. I almost cried, but not for the man that died--altho he was the catalyst. I almost cried because of the wrong-headed direction our "MBA [rez]" has taken us in. I almost cried because many people in this nation still support him. Our Senators and Congresswomen do not pay into Social Security and, of course, they do not collect from it.

You see, Social Security benefits were not suitable for persons of their rare elevation in society They felt they should have a special plan for themselves. So, many years ago they voted in their
own benefit plan .

In more recent years, no congressperson has felt the need to change it. After all, it is a great plan.

For all practical purposes their plan works like this:
When they retire, they continue to draw the same pay until they die.

Except it may increase from time to time for cost of living adjustments..

This is calculated on an average life span for each of those two Dignitaries. For example, Senator Byrd and Congressman White and their wives may expect to dra w $7,800,000 .00 (that's Seven Million, Eight-Hundred Thousand Dollars), with their wives drawing $275,000.00 during the last years of their lives.

Younger Dignitaries who retire at an early age, will receive much more during the rest of their lives.

Their cost for this excellent plan is $0.00 . NADA....ZILCH....

This little perk they voted for themselves is free to them. You and I pick up the tab for this plan . The funds for this fine retirement plan come directly from the General Funds;

Eric's parasite has been discovered. It's lung cancer! At least further tests determined that it hasn't spread further. He will be getting radiation therapy for the next 6 weeks, and hopefully be able to stay at the Ron Mac donald House as it's a 24 hour turn around to Bangor from here! My daughter is rearranging her sumer schedule, to come up with all the kids, including Eric's son. ( His Mother doesn't "do" long car trips just flights to Cancun or Acopulcho!)

Corporation for Public Broadcasting to hold board meeting tomorrow (Tuesday, June 21) in Washington, D.C. -- attend if you can and tell the board not to appoint a longtime Republican activist as president of CPB

After The Washington Post reported on June 9 that former Republican National Committee co-chairwoman Patricia de Stacy Harrison is the "leading candidate" to be the next president of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), increased public attention has focused on CPB chairman Kenneth Y. Tomlinson's campaign to turn public broadcasting into a right-wing media outlet.

Last week, David Brock, president and CEO of Media Matters for America, wrote an open letter to the CPB board of directors regarding its selection of the corporation's next president. In addition, 21 members of the House of Representatives and three U.S. senators signed letters opposing Harrison's appointment. You can read these letters on the website of the Hands Off Public Broadcasting campaign, an effort by Media Matters to ensure that public broadcasting remains independent and free from political pressure.

... I just saw the movie, The Magdalene Sisters. Now this ... from the Huffington Post - when will men stop abusing women and when will women stop facilitating the abuse of their own sex? In this case, the young nun, 23 years old apparently "insulted" the priest during mass. He probably abused her and she called him out so he killed her and called it an exorcism.

Romanian priest unrepentant after crucifixion of nun Sat Jun 18, 3:55 PM ET

TANACU, Romania (AFP) - A Romanian Orthodox priest, facing charges for ordering the crucifixion of a young nun because she was "possessed by the devil," was unrepentant as he celebrated a funeral ceremony for his alleged victim.

"God has performed a miracle for her, finally Irina is delivered from evil," Father Daniel, 29, the superior of the Holy Trinity monastery in north-eastern Romania, told an AFP reporter before celebrating a short liturgy "for the soul of the deceased", in the presence of 13 nuns who showed no visible emotion.

He insisted that from the religious point of view the crucifixion of Maricica Irina Cornici, 23, was "entirely justified," but admitted he faced excommunication as well as prosecution, and was seeking a "good lawyer."

Prosecutors said Saturday they had charged the priest and four nuns with imprisonment leading to death, while religious authorities said he would be barred from celebrating liturgy until the investigation was completed. The monastery will be shut if they are found guilty, Father Daniel's superiors said.

Cornici was found dead on Wednesday, gagged and chained to a cross, after fellow nuns called an ambulance, according to police.

Mihaela Straub, spokeswoman for the police in the province of Vaslui, said Daniel and four other nuns had claimed Cornici was possessed and should be exorcised.

Before being crucified she had been kept shut up for several days, her hands and feet tied and without food or drink, he said. Cornici had entered the monastery just three months before, after visiting a friend who was a nun there, police said.

As her coffin entered the church of the monastery Saturday no church bells were sounded while nuns cast distrustful glances at the strangers, including two AFP reporters, present at the ceremony.

Claps of thunder from an approaching storm were sometimes the only sounds to break the silence. "This storm is proof that the will of God has been done," Daniel said. "You see it?" said the priest, gesturing at the body, lying in an annex and still showing the marks of the gag.

Daniel has lived for the past four years in the isolated monastery located in the hills of one of the poorest regions of Romania, without running water or electricity.

"Over there, in your world, the people must know that the devil exists. Personally I can find his work in the gestures and speech of possessed people, because man is often weak and lets himself be easily manipulated by the forces of evil," said the bearded young priest.

"I don't understand why journalists are making such a fuss about this. Exorcism is a common practise in the heart of the Romanian Orthodox church and my methods are not at all unknown to other priests," he said.

Sociologist Alred Bulai said that corporal punishment was still commonly used in certain Romanian monasteries. "It's happening particularly in the isolated monasteries, where the superiors have difficulty understanding the current realities and adapting themselves to modern life," Bulai said.

It was not clear why Father Daniel believed the nun was possessed. One parishoner, Dora, said the nun "had to be punished, she had an argument with the Father during a Sunday mass and insulted him in front of the congregation."

Mediafax news agency reported Saturday that the Cornici had recently been treated for "schizophrenia" at the local hospital, but the chief of the local child welfare office, Ionel Bratianu, said the nun was "in good health and did not suffer from any psychiatric trouble."

Cornici was raised in an orphanage until the age of 19, when she traveled to Germany to work as a nanny for a family of German doctors. After in-depth psychological and psychiatric tests, the German embassy had declared her apt to take care of children, said Bratianu.

Since the fall of the communist regime in December 1989, the Orthodox Church, which represents 85 percent of Romania's 22 million inhabitants, is rated in many opinion polls as the most trusted institution in the country.

Vitalie Danciu, the superior of a nearby monastery at Golia, called the crucifixion "inexcusable," but a spokesman for the Orthodox patriarchate in Bucharest refused to condemn it.

"I don't know what this young woman did," Bogdan Teleanu said.

The debunking speculates that the reason for the confusion is that prior to 1983, federal employees (meaning everyone who works for the government, from janitors to legistlators) were covered by a pension plan that was independent of Social Security, and which didn't mandate that they pay into that plan. Congress changed all that though, and since 1984 they've paid into Social Security, and had a pension plan that takes that program into account.

And that sweet pension deal? It's definitely nice ... but not quite so nice as the e-mail's outraged author says. The Senate's debunking spells out how many years you have to serve (and how old you need to be) in order to be eligible for a pension, but the bottom line is summed up nicely here:

"As of October 1, 2000, the average annual pension for members of Congress who have retired under CSRS is $52,464, and $46,932 for retirees under FERS-only or both FERS/CSRS."

As to the Plame matter it is thought that the testimony sought by Fitzgerald from Cooper & Miller has to do with obstruction of justice charges that Fitzgerald is trying to prove in addition to discovering who revealed her name.

It is also thought that Vakula has sung like a canary, though some believe he is also open to possible obstruction charges.

Now mine is not always a popular opinion regarding the Plame case and journalists but I am outraged not only at the perpertraitor of the crime but also at journalists themselves and the media they serve. This is not and never been a case of the journalists protecting a whistleblower, it is one where the journalists have been protecting the person(s) who engaged in and committed this crime. The journalists, including Cooper and Miller have, in my opinion, become co-conspirators. And in their defense they have twisted and maipulated the facts, along with the rest of the media and, the people who don't want this case solved or prosecuted. Judy Miller is the neocon's sweetheart who shimmied right up to their trough and helped them make the case for a fake war that we were lied into. Let's not forget the aluminum tubes story she so aptly dished up time and again. Finally, journalists do not, in law, have all the latitude they've been claimimg. It has always been the law that they are required to give testimony before a grand jury, and they are not above the law, especially when they shield criminals.

Don't know if anyone caught this on the news this morning or if this has already been posted, but I heard that there are 'reported' bin Laden sightings Iran. It's not that I hate Christians. In fact, I see the beauty and love in the words of Jesus. I am just totally terrified of the Church. I can still not enter a church. It is just too painful.

I know that there are good Christians. My aunt is evangelical, yet she is such a good person. But, I know that so many more Christians would like to see me dead, in a concentration camp, or some re-education camp ... ala Chairman Mao or comrade Stalin.

If you think that my reaction is over the top, I remember a chrsitian, fundamentalist neigbor of mine who thought all gay men were pedophiles, and he believed gays should be locked up. He really believed this!!! I am fighting hard right now the urge to stereotype all christians. I have been stereotyped so much myself that I realize how hurtful it is. I would not want of wish to do that to another. Stereotyping of all christians would be doing what they do to us. I'm trying to take the high ground.

Lately, I have been in survival mode. With what is going on in the country, I may have to pay a "coyote" to take me to Mexico. I'm serious. My fear is that when the fundies start losing power in the next elections is when they will start to get violent and start bombing gay bars and killing more gay men. Especially when a group thinks they have God on their side. That makes for a dangerous combination.

Travieso, is would be more difficult if they retain or gain more power.

Just live, and be yourself. Stay in the now. If you should feel the need to leave the country, something european might be better. Mexico is not exactly enlightened.

Here in NYC today my local park (Washington Square Park, a block from where I live) was OVERRUN today with white, teenage Christians handing out fliers and "spreading the word".

So, as I'm walking my dog Cinnamon, this group of 4 or 5 of them decides to educate me about God and the scriptures and such. After being polite and telling them "no, thank you", they continue to follow me and ask me if I want to go to Hell when I die, etc and so on. After about 5 minutes of this, I finally turn on them and ask what they think of war. "We don't like it", they answer. "Well, then," I ask, "how do you reconcile your Christian beliefs with the fact that, historically, more wars were started and more people were killed in the name of God than any other reason?" They just gave me these blank looks. "And, by the way," I said "I'm gay, I'm a Democrat and believe in many Gods, not just a white Christian one ... so back off!"

Needless to say, they turned tail and ran. And my respect for those of you who live in FundieLand increased by about 10-fold!

An hour or so later, I had to pass through the Park on the way to a meeting and they were "performing" Christian rock songs ... horribly out-of-tune and with an astonishing, almost embarrassing lack of rhythm. I almost felt sorry for them ... almost. Others in the crowd were doubled over with laughter. Had I the time, I would have rolled on the cement with them.

I love New York City.

WASHINGTON – Senate Democrats blocked John Bolton's confirmation as U.N. ambassador for the second time Monday and President Bush left open the possibility of bypassing lawmakers and appointing the tough-talking former State Department official on his own.
The vote was 54-38, six shy of the total needed to force a final vote on Bolton, and represented an erosion in support from last month's failed Republican effort. Sen. George Voinovich, R-Ohio, who voted in May to advance the nomination, switched positions and urged Bush to consider another candidate.

The setback left Bush facing stark choices – most of which could leave him appearing weak at a time he is facing sagging poll numbers and fighting lame-duck status six months into his final term.

Only three Democrats sided with the White House and voted to end debate on the nomination. One of them, Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., asked whether Bush should exercise his power to give Bolton a temporary appointment without confirmation, said, "I would prefer it not happen, but it is the president's prerogative."

Try to create a good & loving atmosphere when you're with him (I'm sure you already do that) with favorite and fun foods (sneak them in?) and upbeat funny dvds and stories becauses that's good for healing. Another suggestion is to play meditation tapes and music. One of my favorite pieces of meditative music is Canyon Suite by Carlos Navaro (I think I have the last name correct; the title is right at any rate). He's a Southwest Indian and that CD is a particularly beautiful recording of him playing his flute at the grand canyon. It is SO relaxing, it quiets you right down.

You have all of the support that I can muster for Eric's perfect health and for peace of mind and strength for the two of you. Let's all of us picture Eric in perfect health.

Might have been the same young men I met on the subway last week.
Wonder what's going on? Coming back from teaching parents in Brownsville, a inner city neighborhood in Brooklyn the pink boyz entered the train with an older male chaperone. They handed out leaflets that looked like fake dollar bills. I asked what it was and when he said it contained gospel I said get it away from me and said I believe in the Goddess. He asked why. I said it was real for me. I asked him why he chose the gopsels. He said it was real for him. I said, 'ok, but I don't shove my beliefs in your face'. Said it loud. He backed off afraid. I had to bite my tongue to not say why haven't you enlisted for that gospel?

Another dude, he was alone, was screaming about Jesus on the subway last week. I just finished teaching my workshop at an elementary in the Village and it was only 10 am. One guy started yelling, "Turn it off, it's too early in the morning for this bs'. When I got up to leave I asked the preacher loudly, 'who would Jesus scream at"?

Of course it depends on the type, but it is my understanding that lung cancers are relatively easy to cure.

I've seen this so much with North Node Scorpios. Crisis is so much a part of their lives. Extremes, big losses, big gains. They do so well with it. They are equipped to handle exactly this kind of experience. And there is a huge silver lining in all of this for you types. NN Scorps know all about healing and the sicknesses that are part of the human condition. They have to be encountered so we learn as many healing techniques as we can. Scorpios I have known meet these situations with understanding and a courage that frankly, astounds me. They are ready. My sister is a Sun in Scorpio with NN there, and I've seen amazing things.
When pain arrives, there is no better person than a good Scorpio to be there.

Since Jupiter will be crossing your NN, and Saturn will be squaring with Neptune, I would think this experience will unlock something hidden in you. And maybe unleash creativity.

Deep gut crying, laughing, talking, etc. are always part of it. Those visceral expressions that sometimes bring us life.

Much support from the Universer to you PQOP. I don't normally post,however I wanted to let you know that your optimism for Eric will help him survive. My mom was diagnosed with stage 3B lung cancer that had spread to her lungs at age 66. She was given a 3-6mo prognosis. We didn't tell her; I simply brought her home to live with me. She is still alive despite the 'prognosis'. She is doing relatively well despite terrible complications as a result of 'treatments'. The most help she has received has been from loving family and complememtary medicine such as vitamin drips and lots of purified foods and water. She still has cancer but is living with it as a chronic condition with quality of life. Best wishes for Eric's healing.

Everyone, thank you so much for the concern. It was just that a friend of mine of 20 years just got fired for being gay at his job. It was pretty obvious that was the reason. It didn't happen here in Austin, but in South Texas where the catholic church controls everything. Anyway, it really hit me and it slapped some reality into me. However, a high-powered labor lawyer out of Houston is taking his case, so there is hope.

I must say, that I am not alone. There are more people in this country who are suffering from this regime then not. I feel that we all are...women, minorities, poor whites(who are often demonized as lazy trailor trash), and liberals who don't buy into the whole "hate speech" thing. I really believe this. I feel that I need to turn this energy more to political and social action. We at AW are not alone. I wish you all such great blessings, love, and hope.

The federal agency in charge of aviation security collected extensive personal information about airline passengers even though Congress forbade it and officials said they wouldn't do it, according to documents obtained Monday by The Associated Press.

The Transportation Security Administration bought and is storing details about U.S. citizens who flew on commercial airlines in June 2004 as part of a test of a terrorist screening program called Secure Flight, the documents indicate.

Okay, I just have to tell you guys that it's days like this, wonderful glorious days of summer, that I feel George W. Bush and his fascist cohorts can't touch me and mine!

Sure I live in a Red state... but I also live in a small town in a South... which has its positive aspects. This particular town has a wonderful recreational department, lots of parks and a huge park with bike paths and skate board ramps and tons of tennis courts... and a GREAT farmers market... I take the boys at least three times a week... today we got there after our outing at the park with our bikes and a trip to the library... there was a quick heavy summer shower, and I had to run into the shed in the downpour... but fresh veggies are worth it! local tomatoes were in! and the Silver Queen corn (sweetest in the world)! and so much more... we came home, put a pot of water on to boil and chowed down! I do wish I could serve you all! The sweet lady I buy the corn from every year never gives a dozen when I ask for one --- I always get home to find extra! this time five extra! And the grandpa who supplies the collard greens always gives me free squash... so I take in paper and plastic bags for them... and gardenias, of course.

Now the sun is out again... and I'm thinking of all the reasons why I love this part of the world. Sure there are so folks who can't think straight, but there are countless others who are loving and sharing...

So, George W. Bush and his regime will never succeed... there's too much love in this country, even in the Red States... y'all, we just have to stand up to 'em...

Anyway, I wanted to share the joy! It's a glorious day...

Lions rescued kidnapped girl, say police

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - Police say three lions rescued a 12-year-old
girl kidnapped by men who wanted to force her into marriage, chasing off
her abductors and guarding her until police and relatives tracked her
down in a remote corner of Ethiopia.

The men had held the girl for seven days, repeatedly beating her, before
the lions chased them away and guarded her for half a day before her
family and police found her, Sergeant Wondimu Wedajo said Tuesday by
telephone from the provincial capital of Bita Genet, about 560km west of
the capital, Addis Ababa.

"They stood guard until we found her and then they just left her like a
gift and went back into the forest," Wondimu said, adding he did not
know whether the lions were male or female.

'A young girl whimpering could be mistaken for the mewing sound from a
lion cub'
News of the June 9 rescue was slow to filter out from Kefa Zone in
south-western Ethiopia.

"If the lions had not come to her rescue then it could have been much
worse. Often these young girls are raped and severely beaten to force
them to accept the marriage," he said.

"Everyone in thinks this is some kind of miracle, because normally the
lions would attack people," Wondimu said.

Stuart Williams, a wildlife expert with the rural development ministry,
said that it was likely that the young girl was saved because she was
crying from the trauma of her attack.

"A young girl whimpering could be mistaken for the mewing sound from a
lion cub, which in turn could explain why they (the lions) didn't eat
her," Williams said. "Otherwise they probably would have done."

The girl, the youngest of four brothers and sisters, was "shocked and
terrified" and had to be treated for the cuts from her beatings, Wondimu
said.

He said that police had caught four of the men, but were still looking
for three others.

In Ethiopia, kidnapping has long been part of the marriage custom, a
tradition of sorrow and violence whose origins are murky.

The United Nations estimates that more than 70 percent of marriages in
Ethiopia are by abduction, practiced in rural areas where the majority
of the country's 71 million people live.

Ethiopia's lions, famous for their large black manes, are the country's
national symbol and adorn statues and the local currency. Former emperor
Haile Selassie kept a pride in the royal palace in Addis Ababa.

Despite their integral place in Ethiopia culture, their numbers have
been falling, according to experts, as farmers encroach on bush land.

Hunters also kill the animals for their skins, which can fetch $1 000
(about R6 000), despite a recent crackdown against illegal animal
trading across the country. Williams said that at most only 1 000
Ethiopian lions remain in the wild. -

06/20/05 - - At Nuremberg, in early October 1945, the four prosecuting nations -- the United States, Great Britain, France and Russia -- issued an indictment against 24 men and six organizations of the Nazi Germany. Of that 24 only 21 eventually sat down in the trial. The individual defendants were charged not only with the systematic murder of millions of people, but also with planning and carrying out the war in Europe. Twelve Nazi officials were sentenced to be hanged, three sentenced to life in prison, four were given prison sentences of 10-20 years, and the rest were acquitted.

Presently, the ongoing American and British slaughter of thousands of Iraqi and Afghan civilians constitutes a blatant war crime. Average legal skills should be able to prove that a similar case for the prosecution against the current coalition leaders can easily be constructed on comparable lines.

In September 2004, the incumbent UN Chief Kofi Annan made a very clear statement. Talking to BBC Annan said "the US-led invasion of Iraq was an illegal act that contravened the UN charter." Being the UN Chief, and the custodian of International law, he should have known what he was talking about.

None of us knows 'what' heals... there are alternative healing methods, that is alternative to Western Medicine... in addition to the radiation treatments, you might suggest some to Eric. Success would depend I think on his participation... his level of belief. There is a simple Yogi exercise (bhakti would know more about this than I)... relax, center one's focus, center one's light on the afflicted area... visualize healing... I have had success with this one.

Additionally, there are people who are gifted with the touch of healing... perhaps you know someone with this gift in your community?

In 1979 I was badly beaten... the neurologist took x-rays of my spine... declared I had three crushed vertebrae as a result of the blows to my back... a friend of mine suggested I see a psychic who was reputed to have healing abilities. I saw him, told him nothing of my problem... he sat me in a chair and told me that he was going to touch the top of my head and I would feel something... what I felt was an electrical shock through my body... nothing like it before or since... I was not able to drive when I went in to see this person... the pain was so excrutiating... afterwards, I felt better and within three weeks returned to the neurologist for further tests. the 2nd set of x-rays revealed no damage, no crushed vertabrae. The neurologist said to me "during my career I have encountered one or two similar cases, where I had no explanation for what transpired. I can only tell you that you have rec'd a miracle, be grateful for it, and don't wonder 'how'..."

These words are not meant to give you any kind of false hope, but are intended to convey the message that many avenues are available if one is open to them.

Blair dossier on Iraq is delayed indefinitely

The long-awaited dossier Tony Blair has promised would justify his support for a US-led military offensive on Iraq is being delayed indefinitely by an unresolved dispute at the highest levels of government.

Number 10 is thought to have encountered resistance to the plan among senior Whitehall officials, some ministers, and the secret intelligence service MI6.

Intelligence officials believe Downing Street and sectors of the Foreign Office acted precipitately by letting it be known that such a dossier was in the pipeline before Easter and before a final draft had been fully cleared through the internal Whitehall machinery.

Senior defence sources said there were debates within government on how much could be included in such a document without revealing sensitive information or compromising intelligence sources.

A further issue, the sources said, was whether the dossier should include other countries thought to be developing weapons of mass destruction.

The Foreign Office confirmed that the dossier no longer had a firm publication date, and that a final draft has still to be agreed. It would be released "when we judge that the time is right," it said

However, a Whitehall insider said the "unresolved dispute" was further complicated by the incomplete intelligence picture drawn up on Iraq's nuclear, biological, and chemical warfare capability and intentions.

While some intelligence suggests Mr Saddam has been focusing on the development of biological and chemical agents, and a military capability to strike at Israel, Iraq has succeeded in keeping secret the nature and scope of its military programme. "There was concern that by publishing the dossier we would expose what we did not know as much as what we did and that in itself could compromise ongoing intelligence gathering," one source said.

British officials believe Mr Saddam has managed to protect his plans from intrusion by signals and satellite intelligence, forcing US and British intelligence to draw assumptions rather than certainties about his true capability.

In contrast to previous intelligence dossiers on al-Qaeda and the Diamonds-for-Arms trade deliberately used over the last two years by the Blair government to justify policy initiatives, the information on Iraq was judged by some Whitehall officials as insufficient to convince critics within the Labour party that the full-scale offensive against Iraq was justified.

There is for example no firm evidence linking Iraq to al-Qaeda, or as a supplier of chemical, nuclear or biological material to associated terrorists groups as claimed by some members of the US administration.

From looking at charts of the Rez, Laura, the twins, Cheney, Rice, and some mundane charts, I believe this summer is the beginning of the end for this administration. However I think the end will come in the summer of 2006, most likely August or early September.

I am leaning towards a resignation or an attempt at one. But I do not believe that resigning from office would protect someone from punishment for comission of a high crime. I believe it would take a Presidential pardon to stop such proceedings.

For astrologers on the list who may wish to take a look and expand on the topic, Bush's chart resonates with the resignation chart for Nixon.

Bush spurned secret 2002 N. Korea overture-report

North Korean leader Kim Jong-il attempted to engage President Bush directly on the nuclear weapons issue three years ago but the administration spurned the overture, two American experts on Asia said on Wednesday.

Writing in the Washington Post, former U.S. ambassador to South Korea Donald Gregg and former journalist Don Oberdorfer expressed concern that Kim's November 2002 initiative was never pursued and urged Bush to respond positively to his current overture, made last week.

When Bush took office in 2001, U.S. officials estimated Pyongyang had fuel for one or two nuclear weapons. Now, that estimate is up to at least half a dozen and, the authors said, "many believe their claim to have fabricated the weapons themselves."

Downing Street Is For Liars
Why isn't the media screaming about the latest proofs of Bush's war scams? Don't you know?

Let's just say it outright: Of course Bush deserves to be impeached. But of course Bush will not be impeached, because impeachment requires a massive federal investigation and an act of Congress and the support of countless senators and representatives, and right now the GOP controls Congress with a little iron penis, and therefore any sort of uprising or scandal or suggestion of punishment gets immediately slammed down or scoffed away or buried under an avalanche of shrugs and yawns and neoconservative smugness. Isn't that right, Mr. Gannon? Mr. DeLay? Abu Ghraib? Gitmo? Saddam? Et al.

BushCo survived the illegal sanctioning of inhumane torture. They survived a gay male prostitute acting as a journalist. They survived Enron and Diebold and the rigging of the first election and they will survive Downing Street simply because all the people who should be on the attack about these atrocities all work for the guys who committed them.

So then, the question is not merely when will the stack of lies, of abuses become so high, so unstable, so inexcusable that the entire nation finally takes notice and the whole house of cards comes crashing to the ground in a big nasty soul-jarring spirit-cleansing patriotism-redefining whoomp and smothers the whole lot of them, but rather, can it be soon enough?

Thanks for the support to your gay friends. I really believe that most americans could care less about who I sleep with. It's just that the fundamentalists have gained so much power and influence on a national level that I feel it's impossible to escape - blue state or red state. When I visited by friends in San Diego, I was shocked at all the Bush stickers...more then Austin!!! I'm beginning to realize that it's less a Blue/red state idea then it is a lump of Purple precincts.

For example, Austin in very blue while the town north of us is very red. Conservatives live with other conservatives and liberals live with other liberals. It's almost tribal. You would think that all of California was blue, however, there are huge geographical areas of red (which are growing and that is why the repubs make take California). Likewise, in Houston, on the border, inner-city Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin there are densely populated areas of blue precincts(which are growing). This is the reason that the repubs in the state house of representatives re-districted and gerrymandered this state to death. With the growing hispanic and non-white populations in the cities, Austin becoming a haven for gays and lesbians, and a larger then normal population of more liberal-leaning youth, democraphers expect TExas to be a blue state again in 10 to 15 years. The conservative know that, so they gerrymandered the state to keep democratic successes at a minimum.

But, after traveling this country, I just feel that it doesn't matter what state you live until we deal with this administrations warm and cozy relationship with these fundamentalists groups that are wealthy and bolder then ever. Like the medical marijuana fiasco, the conservatives on the national level don't care what we and the states think. They can still have the cops arrest 80 year old grandmothers who smoke pot to relieve their glacouma.

I know that "the OC" is one of the whitest most Repub. places on Earth and how convenient is it that it's home to that other fantasy world, Disneyland? But I think you hit the heart of the issue when you mentioned the gerrymandering that was committed in TX--aren't they currently trying to do that nonsense in CA too? That kind of political BS breaks my heart. I can at least feel a tiny bit more secure knowing that my county of residence here in Nashville(Davidson county, where Nashville is located) went BLUE in 04, even though this is a VERY RED(neck) state....I'm sure you can see a parallel to your (deservedly) beloved Austin in big ol' RED Texas, no?

I have truly learned not to stereotype anyone. I have been suprised at how the stereotypes I have kept about people from different areas of the world are not always correct. A good example is a friend of mine from Nebraska who has had the same partner for 15 years. You would think that his mother, a very typical looking mid-west Baptist lady, would be so against his relationship. However, when I met her, she was the kindest woman who treated her son's partner like family!!! It was so refreshing and sweet.
