Diagnosis and Treatment Needed

When a cancer begins to grow somewhere in a person’s body, initially it is easy to think it is a pulled muscle or an upset stomach or some other minor ailment. But after a while, hopefully a short while, denial becomes impossible and correct diagnosis with appropriate treatment must begin. If not, the malevolent cancer will stealthily, but persistently, spread and parasitically devour more and more of the health of the organism.

The avoidance of truth handicaps a person from effectively dealing with events, just as the wrong or ignored diagnosis leads to ineffective treatment in an illness. The false justification used for the Iraq War provides a recent example. Remember the mushroom cloud and the thousand tons of sarin gas? Remember the yellow cake from Africa and the aluminum tubes? Well-hidden underneath all the frightening rhetoric, of course, was a neoconservative plan for American global hegemony and the desire for greater control of the oil-rich Middle East. Had we known what the war-mongers really intended, had we known that there was no imminent threat to America, there would have been no war. But we were handicapped by the misinformation campaign, always directed to look in the wrong direction, while our fate was sealed in a deadly and seemingly endless quagmire which is now hemorrhaging the strength of the nation.

At present, the battle over the Senate filibuster is also being described as everything other than what it really is. According to Republicans, the filibuster battle is an issue of “fairness”. They argue that it is “unfair” not to allow an up-or-down vote on Bush’s judicial nominees, conveniently forgetting all of the Clinton nominees they buried without a vote. The Democrats are a little closer to the crux of the matter when they say that they want to protect individual rights which would become increasingly difficult with so many “out-of the-mainstream” radical conservatives on the bench. Their concerns about the GOP steamrolling the rights of a sizable minority and the weakening of the Senate’s ability to counterbalance an overreaching executive branch are also quite valid. But this is not the whole picture. The underlying truth of what is happening is really far more frightening and considerably more dangerous.

At present, the right wing of the Republican Party is composed of radical Christian fundamentalists allied with corporate financial power. Together, they maintain a stranglehold over the Republican Party which itself controls the executive and legislative branches of the US government. Radical Christians have worked long and hard to penetrate the leadership of both the GOP and the US government and have been inordinately successful. As has often been stated by their leadership throughout the years, their goal is to reconnect America with its “Christian roots” and to clearly establish this country as a “Christian nation”.

Known as Dominionism, this radical fringe of Christianity has gained control of the Evangelical and Pentecostal movements in the United States, as well as some influence among more extreme Catholics. Its mission is no less than the total takeover of the country, replacing the freedoms described by our Constitution and the separation of church and state with an imperative to live life in accordance with their vision of a Christian world. No longer would individual rights be sacrosanct. Instead, individual choices would be superceded by the dictates of ideology, severely curtailing personal decisions about birth control, end-of-life decisions, sexual identity, choice of entertainment, education, etc. Moreover, the primacy of science, which is the cornerstone of our advanced civilization and most technological innovation, would be eroded by a faith-based belief system that disdains the careful scrutiny of facts. On the global front, America’s role would be to prepare the way for the Apocalypse and the ultimate return of Jesus to Earth.

Here is how Chris Hedges describes the Dominionist vision in a recent article in Harpers Magazine as quoted in a Buzzflash editorial:

"Under Christian dominion, America will no longer be a sinful and fallen nation but one in which the Ten Commandments form the basis of our legal system, Creationism and "Christian values" form the basis of our educational system, and the media and the government proclaim the Good News to one and all. Aside from its proselytizing mandate, the federal government will be reduced to the protection of property rights and "homeland" security. Some Dominionists (not all of whom accept the label, at least not publicly) would further require all citizens to pay "tithes" to church organizations empowered by the government to run our social-welfare agencies, and a number of influential figures advocate the death penalty for a host of "moral crimes," including apostasy, blasphemy, sodomy, and witchcraft. The only legitimate voices in this state will be Christian. All others will be silenced."

Hedges further describes the issue in a recent interview with Amy Goodman on Democracy Now radio:

And this is an America where people like you and me have no place. And you don't have to take my word for it, turn on Christian broadcasting, listen to Christian radio. Listen to what they say about people like us. It's not a matter that we have an opinion they disagree with. It's not a matter of them de-legitimizing us, which they are. It's a matter of them demonizing us, of talking us -- describing us as militant secular humanists, moral relativists, both of which terms I would not use to describe myself, as a kind of counter-militant ideology that is anti-Christian and that is essentially propelled by Satan that they must destroy.

We can already see the struggle for the survival of democracy as we have known it emerging in many areas. The Terri Schiavo case was an example of right-wing politicians attempting to coerce the courts to intervene in a family battle over end-of-life questions. The Kansas Board of Education is currently attempting to change the definition of science in textbooks and introduce intelligent design theories to replace evolution in the curriculum. Right-wing ideologues have recently taken over the Corporation of Public Broadcasting and are pushing for programming that supports only Republican positions. Battles are emerging between the courts and Republican legislatures over same-sex marriage. In some churches, gay Catholics and their supporters are being denied communion. One church even excommunicated any of its members who voted for John Kerry. At the moment, a bill actually stands before Congress that would allow pastors to recommend political candidates, hitherto forbidden without the loss of tax-exempt status. And contrary to all precedent, Bush is channeling more and more federal money into proselytizing evangelical churches for social programs while he cuts it for secular anti-poverty aid. Even foreign policy is not immune from the grasp of Dominionism, with its fundamentalist vision of American world domination leading the way to prepare for Jesus’ return. In fact, our current failed Iraqi adventure, which ignored the cold, hard facts on the ground from the outset, was birthed by an evangelical president that “was told by God” to invade rather than seek a wide array of expert opinions and options.

The rapidly escalating battle over the future of the filibuster now taking place in the Senate must be understood in this larger context: as a major assault by the Radical Right in its push toward the goal of a Christian nation. The one area of the federal government that is not under the control of the fundamentalists in the Republican Party is the judiciary. Certainly, many justices are religious Christians and no doubt many are evangelicals. But there remain a good number, even among the evangelicals, whose judicial impartiality and respect for the law and the American Constitution is inviolable.

Under the traditional Senate rules, the filibuster enables a sizable minority to thwart the most contentious nominations in order to protect America from the extremism and abuse of power of the majority party. It forces some minimal amount of compromise. If radical Republicans were to win the current phase of combat in the Senate and destroy the filibuster, there would be nothing to stop these right-wing fundamentalists from packing the courts with ultra-extremist judges, judges that will not stand up for the separation of church and state, that will vote against people’s right to make choices about personal matters that differ from the controlling extremist Christian ideology, and that will not punish the abusive practices or interfere with the deregulation of corporate America, the big-pocketed allies of the Christian radicals. In short, they would succeed in tearing down one of the final pillars of our constitutional democracy that protect this nation from a total bulldozing by the Christian right.

There is a line in the sand that must be clearly drawn in the midst of this cultural civil war. If people want to oppose abortion, homosexuality, and birth control, that should be their choice. If they want to pray all day, within school and without, and live by the word of the Bible, that is for them to say. But the boundary that must never be breached in a democracy is where people of any ideology or religion have the right to force their beliefs on others and coerce others to live by their rules. In the crossing of that boundary, we enter a realm akin to Stalinism or Nazism, a realm of fascistic control. Unfortunately, the entire impetus behind the Dominionists is to cross that sacrosanct line, to impose their dogma on the world, and to make anyone the enemy, indeed, a minion of Satan, who opposes them.

More than anything, it must be made clear to Americans where all this is leading. To pretend it is all about an “up-or-down vote” is to call a cobra a cuddly little pet. Republicans have become masters at deception and distraction, getting people to discuss ad nauseum issues that have nothing to do with the GOP’s true agenda. Without an understanding of the goals and the methods of these religious extremists who want total control over American culture, the noose will be strangling us before we can effectively fight back. In addition, real Christians, those who truly believe in the teachings of Jesus, need to reclaim their religion. What has happened to that precious path of love, humility, and service? When did it become such a rigid, controlling, judgmental power trip? When did love thy neighbor become damn thy neighbor if he doesn’t agree with you?

And finally, true moral courage needs to find its way back into politics. When the fear of losing votes or campaign funds trumps personal integrity and honor, we all lose. When politicians make a Faustian deal to sell their souls to the most strident, demanding, and narrow-minded partisans in exchange for political power and reelection, we all end up on the path to hell.

…………………………………………………………………

With the first rumblings of nuclear-option detonation, the the viciousness of the Culture War is rapidly escalating, especially in the Senate. The birth chart for the 109th Congress (1/4/05 at 12:05 PM) is quite revealing in this regard. In the 9th house of ideology and religion, we find a very tight stellium of the planets Venus, Mercury, and Pluto, all of which are quincunx Saturn in the 4th. This suggests that the intensity of the power struggles over differing belief systems will be overwhelming, vehement, and brutal. People are obsessive and unrelenting about their version of the truth, and compromise will be difficult, especially when this configuration is strongly activated as it is now. At present, the natal configurations of Pluto conjunct Venus and Saturn quincunx Venus have moved to an exact position, precise to the minute on Monday, May 23 and triggered by a Moon/ Saturn conjunction late Friday, May 20. Tensions, tempers, and deep sorrow over the situation will escalate through May 23, with May 20 being a very somber and tense day.

There may be a very brief respite in the situation beginning after May 23, but the ongoing feeling of bitter struggle will by no means be resolved. In the chart, Venus rules the 7th house of relationships, bringing some of the current intensity into the relations between the parties. As we move through June 2005, transiting Pluto will move to conjunct Mercury, ruler of the 3rd and 6th houses, suggesting intensified rhetoric (Mercury and the 3rd house) and power struggles over the daily flow of activity (6th house). Mid-June is likely to bring an especially difficult feeling of hopelessness and total lack of comity, when Saturn reaches a square to the natal 7th house Moon, from June 7 to June 15.

Again, things may ease somewhat during July and August 2005, but it is merely the calm before the storm. Beginning to build again in September and intensifying into major battle mode from mid-September to early December 2005, Congress will be on the frontlines of a renewed and brutal bloodbath in America’s 21st Century Culture War. Not only will Pluto be returning for its last prolonged crossing of first Mercury and then Venus in the 109th Congress chart, but Uranus will station in almost exact square to natal Mars, to which it is already natally in square aspect. In addition, transiting Mars will make a station quincunx the exact Mercury/Pluto conjunction. This combination suggests a vehement reinvigorating of ideological fervor, augmented by a very angry and aggressive attitude. Tempers will be boiling over, and the most belligerent and brutal tactics imaginable are likely to be used. For what it is worth, 2006 looks somewhat calmer, although the basic hostility and ideological struggle described in the birth chart of the 109th Congress will never be far from the surface.

The US chart also gives us some indications about what is going on at present. Transiting Saturn is conjunct US Mercury for its final pass (exact from 5/19 – 5/28), exacerbated by a quincunx from transiting Pluto (5/15 – 5/25). Besides the pressure this aspect has been exerting on currency and trade issues since August 2004, it also has a negative, contracting, intimidating influence on the media and on the public mood in general. The current kill-the-messenger Bush administration attack on Newsweek provides a striking example. Personally, I find it quite suspect that a previously very “trustworthy” source who is a “senior administration official” suddenly and conveniently realizes his facts aren’t quite true after the anti-US riots in Afghanistan which were allegedly sparked by the Newsweek story. One can only imagine what dark threats were made to have this senior official retract his story with his chastened tail between his anonymous legs.

Another planetary aspect of significance in the US chart, one which especially relates to the ideological clashes discussed above, is the transit of Pluto square to US Neptune, active since just after the election in 2004 and soon to be quite intense due to its station square US Neptune, from early June through late October 2005. The natal position of Neptune in the US chart, square to Mars and in the 9th house, describes a very strong American tendency toward sometimes unrealistic idealism that, when powerfully activated, can even lead to war. Certainly the ideals of democracy, as well as the quest for freedom from tyranny and for the rights of personal and collective independence, became fervent principles of the early republic. Our anti-Communism crusade during the Cold War with its many proxy wars, including Viet Nam, offers another example of strong ideals and vision inspiring action. A 9th house Neptune can also manifest a very idealized religious tendency, and religion has always had a strong influence in the US.

With transiting Pluto currently square US Neptune during much of 2005, however, the usually more-muted idealism and devotional tendencies of the country have become obsessive and over-active, with a tinge of fanaticism and desire to control others (Pluto) added into the mix. This is especially so with hyper-intense Pluto at present in the more religious and opinionated sign of Sagittarius (from 1995 through 2008), which is highlighting a mood of theological fundamentalism not only in the US but across the globe. We can hope that after 2008, we may see a decrease in the impact of this religious fervor that has so dominated the worldwide geopolitical landscape in the last several years.

It is always useful to take a look at George Bush’s chart and the 2005 Inaugural chart to surmise the impact of current events on our own Dear Leader. From approximately May 19 through June 30, 2005, a series of Saturn aspects will influence George Bush, suggesting that events are not likely to unfold in his favor. Saturn will square his Midheaven, semisquare his Mars, and conjunct US Mercury (5/19 – 5/28), conjunct the Inaugural IC (5/31 – 6/10), conjunct Bush’s Saturn (6/10 – 6/18), and oppose US Pluto (6/20 -6/27), while Inaugural tertiary progressed Mercury will oppose tertiary progressed Saturn (5/31 – 6/10) and natal Saturn (6/15 – 6/30). These aspects indicate frustrations, difficulties, and a somber mood in the administration. One possible interpretation is that the Filibuster War in the Senate will not simply neuter the Democrats while rendering the Republicans omnipotent as the administration is hoping, but will instead create complicated and severe obstacles for the Bush agenda or perhaps even fail altogether. It is also likely that the Gulf War will continue to deteriorate into a brutal civil war, despite the fantasies woven by the spinmeisters, with transiting Pluto opposing Saturn/progressed IC in the Gulf War chart for all of June. The time frame of the likely Senate struggle in the fall of 2005 also shows up for Bush as a very difficult period with many obstacles and much need for compromise. Only time will tell us what dramatic events will unfold.

Oh, my! What a timely article, Nancy. Very much so. It is so frustrating to see Smirky just ride with the tide. I do hope Saturn will be able to frustrate the Repugs as they set about trashing our Constitution and Bill of Rights. On with The Rupture! Take 'em away. Bhatki needs some new items in her home and closet. (Actually, I suspect The Rupture people will not have many things to Bhatki's liking, but, we'll see.)

It's about time that Bush and his Republican cronies start seeing both the light of day and the truth of what they are doing to both the American people and the world through that light!

Great article, Nancy!!!

Jonathan chait seems to be somewhat on the same page, though he minimizes the power of the Christian Right in government. Still, he makes it clear what they want in this aritcle: a theocracy.

Nancy...this is an absolutely superb article.....and quite frightening. Because of the resonance with Margaret Attwood's "Handmaiden's Tale".....which gave us fairwarning 15 years ago (or was it longer? mayber 1988?) of where we were headed. Attwood did her research in those countries which were represive and religious and dictatorships.....and that is what these people want for us now. The fact that they all fell seems not to penetrate their lizard brains.

I tried to watch Now on PBS tonight, and took one look at the thing passing for human (Jan LaRue).....it is that look they all seem to have which looks normal on a lizard and frightening on a human.

but I turned it back on to see Molly Ivins....blessings upon her. A national treasure, she nails the Xians succinctly....

Nancy....not so happy this year for my birthday on June 7..".Mid-June is likely to bring an especially difficult feeling of hopelessness and total lack of comity, when Saturn reaches a square to the natal 7th house Moon, from June 7 to June 15."

Give me back last year with Venus/Uranus eclipse/transit on my Sun/Saturn....when for a glorioous 18 hours I felt fabulous.

And this year I get hopelessness and total lack of comity. Well, I can stand that....but not a total lack of comedy....please, not THAT!

Am I crazy? Last night I posted about Glenn Burke threatening to kill Michael Moore and I just saw this on Huffington Post:

O'Reilly: LA Times editorial board won't "get it" until terrorists cut off Michael Kinsley's head

Fox News host Bill O'Reilly said that Los Angeles Times editorial board wouldn't understand his objection to legal representation for detainees at Guantànamo Bay, Cuba, until terrorists "grab [editorial page editor] Michael Kinsley out of his little house and they cut off his head." He further opined: "And maybe when the blade sinks in, he'll go, 'Perhaps O'Reilly was right.'"

From the May 17 broadcast of Westwood One's The Radio Factor with Bill O'Reilly:

O'REILLY: No, no. I want you to read it. Go to LATimes.com. I want everybody in the country to read this editorial, 'cause it just -- I mean, you'll be sitting there pounding the table like I did. How can they -- how can they think this way? How can anyone think this way? You know, "Shutting down Guantànamo and giving suspected terrorists legal protections would help restore our reputation abroad." No, it wouldn't. I mean that's like saying, well, if we're nicer to the people who want to KILL US, then the other people who want to KILL US will like us more. Does that make any sense to you? Do you think Osama [bin Laden] is gonna be more favorably disposed to the U.S. if we give the Guantànamo people lawyers?

E.D. HILL (co-host): No, of course not.

O'REILLY: I mean, but this is what they're saying. It is just -- you just sit there, you go, "They'll never get it until they grab Michael Kinsley out of his little house and they cut his head off." And maybe when the blade sinks in, he'll go, "Perhaps O'Reilly was right."

As usual Nancy, thanks for your brilliant insight and writing.
Your first paragraph resonated deep - last night I had a very vivid dream where I was with a group of people asking "how can we come up with a strategy to kill the cancer without destroying everything?" So vivid I woke up and never did get the answer, LOL!

This is absolutely correct.!
I had a run in with a Repug in the drugstore last night !
Fat, pasty white , little beady eyes, nondescript features.
( She was buying Trojans, who could want to screw it?
Angry because the DRUG company & the insurance company; Fed? State? wouldn't let me get the antibiotic for my son untill Mon. because he hasn't finished his last pill from the last dose. ( which he will do Sun AM.)
Yes for $60.00 I could have had it last night!
But for $2.50 I have to wait and INTERUPT my day off to run to the drugstore!
It led to a general disscussion ( rant?) on the state of the union, with me trying to explain how invasive the supposedly "small government" & corporate thugs have become. How it's impossible to flourish with a small business.
Well; ( self righteous wriggle here!) she has a friend who is opening an antique business; and "SHE WILL DO WELL BECAUSE SHE'S A GOOD REPUBLICAN, WHO PAYS HER TAXES!!!!!!!
( My friend Ingrid pointed out that she's one of those "good towns people" who memorizes the list in the town annual report of who owes back property taxes!) That would be me!
So I'm spending 3 days a week....squeezed unto the very restricting, left brained hemosphere of library work, after 40 years of flourishing in the right brained hemosphere which was successful for me!

The base closings in Maine are a BIG isssue! Whole towns will be horribly affected! Most jobs here are not steady! Rake blueberrys in the AUG. make christmas wreaths in Oct Nov.
Go out and gather for sale fiddlehead ferns and mushrooms for sale, in the spring, pick crabs in between! Cut a little wood........
serve the tourists in July & Aug.,....the military bases are about the only stable ongoing jobs in the state!
IT OCCURED TO ME YESTERDAY............ if all the military bases are focused in the RED STATES; IT WILL MAKE IT VERY DIFFICULT TO SUCCEED FROM THE UNION, OR MAKE A CIVIL WAR!

Sooooooooooooo I'm outa here to go paint! It's finally sunny on my day off after 2 weeks of sitting in the library looking out at the sun..and sitting in the house on my days off!

Once again this article was brilliant!
The last three articles by Sally Isabelle & Nancy, fully, richly,
cover all the dimensions of our past present and future situation.
And as events unfold, I have no doubt that future articles will exceed even these............There's the bright spot! If we were plunking along with a well running Democratic Country, with business beng taken care of; would you be as challenged to write as you are?
( I don't mean to dismiss your past careers..I only know you from this year and I see growth and development as the year has progressed.)
Can I apply this to my own visueal art?

Nancy, the comments you quote from Bill O'Liar in your piece point to a current revelation about ongoing war crimes --- defended by O'Liar and his ilk as involving known 'terrorists' --- when in fact, victims of torture are turning out to be innocents whom the government never had any evidence against, but who were part of a "round up the usual suspects" --- in this case, people of color. Torture is not excused in any event... but our good Irishman, who has already been shown to be a misogynist, is also a flaming bigot.

toward the end of the last thread I posted two links of the erupting scandal of torture of prisoners in Afghanistan, one from the Guardian and one from their source, the New York Times, both published yesterday. This a.m. comes another from the Guardian saying top brass involved and speaks of a White House directive... tactics at Bagram led to those at Abu Ghraib... This is big, again, let's see where it takes us (and US)

----------------

Report implicates top brass in Bagram scandal

Julian Borger in Washington
Saturday May 21, 2005
The Guardian

A leaked report on a military investigation into two killings of detainees at a US prison in Afghanistan has produced new evidence of connivance of senior officers in systematic prisoner abuse.
The investigation shows the military intelligence officers in charge of the detention centre at Bagram airport were redeployed to Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq in 2003, while still under investigation for the deaths of two detainees months earlier. Despite military prosecutors' recommendations, the officers involved have yet to be charged.

The Bagram case also suggests that some of the prison guards were given little if any training in handling detainees, and were influenced by a White House directive that "terrorist" suspects did not deserve the rights given to prisoners of war under the Geneva convention.

So is anyone out there going to take action or are all of you just going to sit back and watch it all happen? Just like in 1913 when they snuck through the Federal Reserve Act, creating an evil entity that our Founding Fathers clearly warned us against. Those of you who have Repulican Senators and Congressman need to organize and submit your opposition to the filibuster change. At least 10 petitions/letters must be received by a Senator or Congress office before he/she will take notice. You must make it clear that you will excercise your right and all of your energy to have them voted from office if they support these kinds of consitution detroying issues. It can be the same one page letter submitted by a 1000 people.
Or are all of you just planning on leaving the country if it gets too bad? Just curious!

Nancy,

as illustrated in this diary from dKos, your words above could not be more prophetic:

---------

One would indeed think the Senate would have bigger things to worry about then whether a handful of already-rejected judges get shoved through the system in violation of Senate rules. A win on this front is going to make future legislative accomplishments very few and far between. (As Steve Clemons and others have pointed out, the Bolton nomination is also going to get ground up and spit out by this, unless the Republicans chose to further extend the rule violations to encompass all nominations.)

Reid has been blunt about the position the Democrats will take if the rules are violated; they will simply start ignoring the traditional role of the majority party, and introduce their own legislative agenda. They will also begin consistently denying unanimous consent for procedural motions that bring Republican legislation to the floor or allow committee work to take place -- thus grinding the Bush agenda to a screeching halt for the remainder of the Congress. Far from being a "shut down" of the Senate, however, this plan would simply enforce remaining rules in a way that fully demonstrates how the traditional sense of negotiation and sometimes-enforced goodwill in the Senate has served America for the last two centuries. If the minority party is to be afforded none of the traditional legitimacy that has permeated the last two hundred years of Senate history, after all, there seems little point in returning comity in exchange.

It should also be noted that this Republican pander to their base, and to Bush's own political immaturity, could prove costly. With Republican numbers looking increasingly similar to those recorded during the Schiavo fiasco, polls show the public is clearly against the nuclear option. On the other hand, public is overwhelmingly for an active Senate role in the nomination process, with a whopping 78% agreeing, in a May 17-19 AP/Ipsos poll, that the Senate should "take an assertive role in examining each nominee."

Negotiations between various Republican and Democratic Senators are going to continue over the weekend, but in an already hostile climate that will be explosive by Tuesday morning.

You can bet your sweet bippy that if Michael

24/7, we would never hear the end of it.
It would be interesting to know if those troops
carrying out these activities come from "good
Christian homes".
As the Dalai Lama said about China when someone
asked him if he hated that country. "No" he said,
"I feel only Compassion. The Karma they are building will have to be paid off sometime and it
won't be nice."
When I see a bumper sticker that reads "Support

conduct...I certainly hope not. This government
seems to be taking away their humanity (participating in torture) and their health (DU).
No wonder so many are returning with mental problems. Where is the Outrage???

WV,

Indeed, where is the outrage?

Daily I am reminded of the The Borg ("Cyborg"), the greatest villains ever introduced to TV audiences. The biological and technological terrors made their debut on May 8th, 1989 in the "Q, Who?" episode of The Next Generation.

"This is the Borg Collective," they said menacingly. "Prepare to be assimilated. We will add your biological and technological distinctive to our own. You will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile."

Note the date: May 8th, 1989 --- GHW*, the CIA incarnate Prez, was inaugurated January 20th, 1989.

Life imitates art - or, art imitates life? Roddenberry pulled this entity (CyBorg) from the collective psyche for sure!

Further sludging around in Star Trek and art brings us to comments from a critical writer.

"It's the baby boomers who will lead Star Trek into its third decade." He is wrong; in fact, it is the baby busters, the members of Generation X who have led Trek into its current successful incarnation. The baby busters of Coupland's novel are "underemployed, overeducated, intensely private and unpredictable . . . [with] nowhere to direct their anger, no one to assuage their fears, and no culture to replace their anomie . . . [they are] fanatically independent individuals, pathologically ambivalent about the future and brimming with unsatisfied longings for permanence, for love and for their own home."

Another writer uses the word 'angst' to define those of Generation X.

I don't particularly like labels, but they aid us in communicating. So, in trying to piece together the puzzle of "where is the outrage" which WV brings again this morning, these are the 'pieces' I have gathered so far, since that dark day in December 2000: Neocons/fascists; fundamentalists and others who are serving to support the first group, or those wishing to control us (and US) who might be labeled 'totalists' (see last thread); baby busters/generation X type as identified above; and pure escapists/Pisceans, as identified by Isabelle in her article last thread.

That doesn't leave many of us, does it, WV? Those of us who are 'awake' and 'waking up'? As bhakti said last thread:

"Those in the sludge are really eliminating the Dream and becoming invovled in their own conciousness rather than in their own minds/dream/ illussions/ maya. At least our little boats meet in the ocean of conciousness and cyberspace enough to bouy each other during this sludge elimination time."

Wonderful words bhakti...

The moon is waxing, will be full Monday as WV has reminded us. Our light and intentions and prayers have more power now... imho. Also, this energy affirms Nancy's words above re tensions mounting in Senate, etc. over the weekend.

Obviously the tSun is now in Gemini as some of us with that energy are flooding the board :)

judi gemini - That prediction for June 7 was not for you or the general population but for the 109th Congress chart, and interestingly, also for Bill Frist. Transiting Saturn will move to an exact square of the Moon in the Congress chart, stimulating the natal square and making everyone ON CAPITOL HILL miserable. A Ray of Light:

-------------

...from the Detroit News :

"A full-page advertisement as an open letter to President Bush signed by 823 people affiliated with Calvin College was published in Friday's editions of The Grand Rapids Press, protesting his planned appearance as the school's commencement speaker. The signees -- self-described alumni, students, faculty and 'friends' of the Christian liberal arts college -- said they are 'deeply troubled' that Bush will be the speaker at Saturday's ceremony.

'In our view, the policies and actions of your administration, both domestically and internationally over the past four years, violate many deeply held principles of Calvin College,' their ad said."

I hope that bishops and clergy throughout this country are paying very close attention and will learn something by this example.

Posted by: wv on May 21, 2005 10:16 PM

WV,

If you plant while the moon is still in Scorpio, it will be an excellent time to do so... Scorpio being a water sign and second (after Cancer) most fertile sign for planting... waxing moon is also good.

However, moon in Sagit --- believed a poor time to plant or transplant... w/ exception of maybe root crops such as potatoes or radishes --- but only on a dark or waning moon...

Felt such a brief and overwhelming sadness for our Country this afternoon. That all those freedoms many Americans take for granted will always be there are, even now, in the process of being stripped away.

But just TRY and get the average American to tithe 5% or 10% of his or her earnings to a "Christian Church" they may not belong to or whose Bible they don't believe in and watch how quickly the Sheeple wake up and bring Hell on Earth!

A new one by Walter Pincus in the Sunday WPost says that prewar intelligence on Iraq WMD was weak!

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/05/21/AR2005052100474.html

snip:

But as the Walpole episode suggests, it now appears that even before the war many senior intelligence officials in the government had doubts about the case that was being trumpeted in public by the president and his senior advisers.

The question of prewar intelligence has been thrust back into the public eye with the disclosure of a secret British memo showing that, eight months before the March 2003 start of the war, a senior British intelligence official reported to Prime Minister Tony Blair that U.S. intelligence was being shaped to support a policy of invading Iraq.

Moreover, a close reading of the recent 600-page report by the president's commission on intelligence, and the previous report by the Senate panel, shows that as the war approached many U.S. intelligence analysts were internally questioning almost every major piece of prewar intelligence about Hussein's alleged weapons programs.

I think (just a quick hit of something here) that SF is going to become a big player in the Catholic return to the past.....and the Jesuits look to be heading for a showdown with Pope Rat.....and all because LeVada, the archbishop here in SF is the Rat's old friend. And then there is another sub Rat coming up from obscurity....isn't it ironic that the home of the bluest city in america has this going on?
RELIGION
The pope has a friend in local priest, editor
Conservative Fessio clashed with liberal Jesuits at USF

Don Lattin, Chronicle Religion Writer
Saturday, May 21, 2005

San Francisco Roman Catholic Archbishop William Levada, tapped last week for one of the most powerful jobs at the Vatican, isn't the only Bay Area priest with friends in high places.

Things are also looking up for the Rev. Joseph Fessio, a conservative Jesuit priest born in Alameda, raised in Menlo Park and educated at Santa Clara University. As the top editor at Ignatius Press in San Francisco, Fessio can rightly call himself the pope's primary editor for the English-speaking world.

The once-obscure McAllister Street publishing house owns the U.S. copyright for at least 20 books written by or about Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, now known to the world as Pope Benedict XVI.

The publisher's cramped headquarters a few doors down the hill from the University of San Francisco was abuzz one recent afternoon.

"Sorry, we're sold out," receptionist Paula Johnson told a telephone customer.

A sign above Johnson's desk next to a picture of Pope Benedict reads, "Attention Cafeteria Catholics: The cafeteria is now closed."

Nancy, what is in your gut about this filibuster shenanigans?

Not asking for a "prediction," but do you believe the repugs will be successful?

Just wondering.

Loved your article! You're the best!

Posted by: Laurie on May 22, 2005 12:45 AM

Laurie - I don't have a real clear picture of it. I think they may find some kind of resolution late Monday, but it won't satisfy many for long. Tensions will build again through June.

Harry Reid does have a Saturn square to Saturn from 6/27 to 7/6 so we may see a defeat of the filibuster. But that will only be the beginnning. Reid will be playing very hard ball all the way through mid February. So even if we lose the filibuster, the GOP will be paying with blood. This little battle won't be ending on Monday no matter what the outcome. Reid stays very focused and aggressive through the year.

It would help enormously to have Frist's birth time. Somewhere around now he is having Saturn oppose his Moon, but it could be any time from late May through June. The timing would tell whether he is upset because he has lost his filibuster vote or he is upset by the aftermath.

Since the Congress chart seems to defuse briefly after 5/23, I am wondering if the vote is shelved for a while but the battle doesn't really end. I think the fall will bring a Supreme Court nomination battle. Probably someone awful like Janice Rogers.

The local news is full of indignation about the base closings in the state. New Englanders, are very good at thrift and efficiency! Moving the Portsmouth NH submarine base to Jacksonville Fla. is another neocon "insane" plan. It will cost a fortune to dredge out all that sand and bolster it with bulkheads! Portsmouth is granite, no bulkheads needed! We are claiming an error in calculations and so a review will be conducted. On June 3rd.! Hardly time to plan a campaign to keep it open......
Sounds like a bribe or blackmail to keep the Senators from. voting against Bolton and for the fillibuster!!!

Its chilly and raw.......but our shad trees are in bloom, making arcs of pink against the spruce trees. The blossoms are pink, the leaves are a translucent reddish rust.

Posted by: Laurie on May 22, 2005 02:18 AM

PQ, my brother-in-law said the same thing...the military base closings in the NE are to pressure those Senators to vote for Bolton & ending judicial filabuster. Well, I personally am a fighter, so I'm looking forward to giving the Repubs few ggod & bloody noses (metaphical of couse). I'd rather die with my boots on than walk away with my tail between my legs, karmic justice or no karmic justice! And if I'm any example, I think there definitely ALOT of anger among Dems & sane Republicans that cannot be repressed indefinitely. I just saw on DU that 823 at Calvin College have taken out a full page ad in the Detroit main newpaper stating that it is not appropriate for Bush to speak at commencement due to his policies. That's the kind of thing that makes me feel great.

Posted by: Sharon on May 22, 2005 02:43 AM

823 faculty, students & staff, I believe.

Posted by: Sharon on May 22, 2005 02:45 AM

An astrological teacher I had once and who had studied astrology since 18 and was educated at Oxford and is now 85, told me once that if there isn't a birthtime for a chart to put the "sunrise" chart in it's place. That puts Bill Frist "sunrise" at 6:31am and places his moon at 23 degree Capricorn. Mary Ann has had very good luck doing it this way. Frist has had a bit of a problem with foot and mouth disease lately and Bolton was a disappointment to him as well as this fight but while damaged, he's not out, nor are his agenda's.

Unless the media hammers the problems home, I believe he or any GOP Senator could stab and gut a democrat on the floor of the Senate and say it was emergency surgery and the patient died and unless the media jumped on it with as much intensity as they have any of the other smoke screen cases, the people would just keep going on except, of course DU and Astroworld.

The importance of grabbing the airways has to do with iconic thinking. Symbols repeated, whether it's a newscaster or wearing the flag in the lapel. People have been trained the last 50 years to follow symbols and the GOP has captured symbols in the American eye. We have to find a place where "symbols' can be upsurped like "The Force is With You." Some manner of overriding the inroads they have garnered as "their" message. Look at Galloway, he powerfully used symbolic language and posturing. No wonder the committe took the testamony off their site. He used quick sound-bites, understood by all.

I heard about a bumper sticker today that said "Jesus was a Democrate but God is a Republican." That's how bad it's become out here. Start thinking in sound bites and think of some powerful symbols the Dems can use.

Whoever wrote the earlier post about Pluto in Sag and its meaning, I couldn't agree with you more. Pluto strips away the "ego" and all those illusions of ourselves we impose on others.

For Christians, this is the extreme fundies that see the world as a place of free. They must have a "boggyman" that keeps them fearful and scared. these are the muslims, the pagans, the gays, etc...

Also, I must say, these are the other christians that imbrace liberation theology and truly and selflessly help those in need. I have a good friend like that who is a Christian, but is such a good person.

I think until Pluto goes into Capricorn in 2008, religious violence will get even more gross and disgusting. I am really scared and fearful of the religious violence.

Also, great article Nancy.

Ray Merriman has a few very interesting comments about the current tension in DC in the last paragraph of his weekly "Market Week."

http://www.stariq.com/MarketWeek.HTM

Posted by: shylurker on May 22, 2005 06:15 AM

PatQOP, I've seen that lexicon and several others, I know they are working hard to come up with these phrases that will catch the attention of these people. It's taken us (Dems) a little while to realize that facts and well articulated arguments fall on deaf ears. The right wing and fundamentalists do not make sense and making sense back to them isn't going to get it.

I did watch the McLaughlin report Friday night and I don't know if anyone else saw it but the usual gang was there as well as this guy (cannot remember his name) from MSNBC and he was obviously a liberal and livid over what was going on in this administration. His eyes were blazing, his lips tightly pursed and he was obviously furious. He's someone behind the scenes and I've never seen him, but I wondered why that attitude wasn't more evident on their site.

The other thing I noticed is the season final of one of the Law and Order series next week. It's about the mystery of the government giving troops things that are killing them. So maybe through TV icons and symbolism that will get though to some of these "disenfranchised" fundies eventually.

Posted by: Sally on May 22, 2005 06:48 AM

Perhaps it is premature, but the U.S. press, which we all know has been on life support since 9/11, may finally be showing the earliest possible signs of coming out of its collective coma and rejoining the land of the living.

Over the past week the NYT, (which lately has seemed like a National Enquirer wannabe) has been publishing exposes (!) of detainee treatment in Afghanistan, Guantanamo, and Iraq, DIRECTLY accusing the U.S. military of coverup, as well as commitment of the most heinous and disgusting crimes, WITH the complicity of high level military officers!

Also, please read NYT op-ed columnist Frank Rich's piece today (registration required but worth it) called "It's All Newsweek's Fault", a truly scathing and no holds barred critique of the administration's recent attacks on, and attempts to intimidate and silence the press.

Also, even the Brezhnev era Pravda-like Washington Post has lately been stirring somewhat, and of course there was the White House briefing earlier this week where reporters absolutely ripped into Scott McClennan, asking questions like "Do you really think you have the right to act like you are editor of Newsweek??!" regarding his call for Newsweek to cover stories in an (even more) pro-administration way (I'm sure little Scotty was not ready for that one!).

Perhaps there is now just a flicker of hope that the U.S. might not continue to sink irrevocably and without a fight into the abyss so quickly afterall, but it is still a shame that it took George Galloway, the Scottish M.P., testifying before Norm Coleman's committee in the Senate, to act as a role model to Democrats as to how to stand up for themselves (and the country of course)and answer the Rethugs's lies and Gestapo like accusations in a meaningful and effective manner. Of course in typical Rethug fashion, this committee scrubbed Galloway's testimony from its website, but the look on Coleman's face during the broadcast (talk about your deer in the headlights expression)made it more than worth the time.

Posted by: grizzly on May 22, 2005 07:12 AM

The US and England aren't the only ones in trouble, the neo-Nazi's in Germany are in prime position for a comeback, toppling 39 years of socialists rule. Schroeder is in big trouble.

Posted by: Laurie on May 22, 2005 07:35 AM

Sally, the fellow's name on McLaughlin is Bill Press. He used to work for CNN as one of their "house liberals", kind of like Mark Shields, but a bit more polished and urbane. He used to do substitution work on shows like Crossfire, Capital Gang, etc. Don't know much else about his background, but he did work for CNN for quite some time.

I am pleased to see his attitude has changed, because when I last saw him (as substitute co-host for James Carville on Crossfire I think) he answered an attack by a wingnut questioning his "faith" by whining "but most liberals are people of faith too!" rather than something more appropriate like "How dare you use this Joe McCarthy tactic on me, questioning my faith and personal sense of morality in public? Who do you think you are, and what gives you the right to talk to me this way? Please apologize immediately for this outrageous accusation!"

Posted by: grizzly on May 22, 2005 07:37 AM

Thanks Grizzly, I could not remember his name butI do know they identified him as with MSNBC now.

This is a fun followup to Galloway. Oh what fools, what fools reside in Congress. The journalist who said Coleman was a fool "not the Christian Right type, or the Right Wing type, but the dribble on his tie type" nailed it. Coleman and Levin didn't even bother to get their facts straight before they made jackasses out of themselves. No wonder Galloway came out with both guns blazing.

Posted by: Sally on May 22, 2005 07:56 AM

Laurie, the Galloway hearing was on C-Span (although I saw it on BBC) and according to Daily Kos it will be repeated sometime today, but I believe you can view it (for now at least) anytime on http://tinyurl.com/crh4c I'm not too good at linking, so I hope this works for you!

Posted by: grizzly on May 22, 2005 08:02 AM

Sally, one other thing I just remembered about Bill Press. He was also a "Newsweek" columnist (over quite an extended time period I believe) so perhaps another reason contributing to his anger
was the recent situation of the magazine first quickly "caving" by retracting the Koran story, immediately followed by the White House's attempt at further intimidation.

Posted by: Grizzly on May 22, 2005 08:13 AM

Sally & Grizzly, from what I recall Bill Press used to be the regular left voice on CNN Crossfire - perhaps it was while Ted Turner still had a voice in management. Press either quit or was forced out about 3 or 4 years ago.

In reference to comments from the previous thread:

The Wheel of Time, Castaneda writes, is a “series of specially selected quotations...gathered from the first eight books that I wrote about the world of the shaman of ancient Mexico.”

As far as I know Wheel is the last thing Castaneda did before his death. But you may already know all this...

Judi Gem: I have always referred to Castaneda’s writings about death as a sort of reality check. One of the books refers to death always being over your left shoulder. Is that the Ixtlan book? My library is in storage in a couple of states far from here...

Pat: Thanks so much for pointing out The Fire From Within. I hadn’t looked at that very extensively, but found several quotes I’d like to share. (Maybe these were along the lines of what you had been reading?)

***

“There is no completeness without sadness and longing, for without them there is no sobriety, no kindness. Wisdom without kindness and knowledge without sobriety are useless.”

and ...

“If seers can hold their own in facing petty tyrants, they can certainly face the unknown with impunity, and then they can even withstand the presence of the unknowable.”

followed by...

“What seems natural is to think that a warrior who can hold his own in the face of the unknown can certainly face petty tyrants with impunity. But that’s not necessarily so. What destroyed the superb warriors of ancient times was to rely on that assumption. Nothing can temper the spirit of a warrior as much as the challenge of dealing with impossible people in positions of power. Only under those conditions can warriors acquire the sobriety and serenity to withstand the pressure of the unknowable.”

************

which led last night to this little blurb which appeared on the Yahoo news:

Bush gets mixed reception at Christian college

... anti-Bush ads that ran in the local newspaper, protests outside the event and buttons worn on graduates' robes made clear that many students and faculty objected to Bush's policies.

"We believe your administration has launched an unjust and unjustified war in Iraq," said a letter signed by about one-third the college's 300 faculty members and published in Saturday's Grand Rapids Press.

"As Christians, we are called to be peacemakers and to initiate war only as a last resort," it said.

The letter criticized economic policies that it said favored the wealthy over the poor, and faulted Bush for mixing religion and politics and exhibiting and "intolerance" for others' views.

It cited "conflicts between our understanding of what Christians are called to do and many of the policies of your administration."

Nancy, your analysis is compelling. It looks grim yet I ended the article feeling some optimism. All these constant blows and not knowing when it will let up. I guess we are becoming good warriors. I love Old Granny's quote:

"Nothing can temper the spirit of a warrior as much as the challenge of dealing with impossible people in positions of power. Only under those conditions can warriors acquire the sobriety and serenity to withstand the pressure of the unknowable.”

For me, I am trying not to get to fixated on any one event. Even if the nuclear option goes through, it's not the end of the world. We'll survive and eventually fix things. And we are being forged in the fires to build strength. It take several times for good metal.

When Jupiter goes into Scorpio soon in mutual reception to the Pluto, there will be heavy Pluto/Jupiter energy further exacerbated by Jupiter going into Sagittarius after that conjoining the Pluto. That should be the culmination. If we don't get it by them, well......
I think all these dominant religions will have to face the truth. That they can't annihilate one another and that they will continue to exist along with the other thousands of religions.

My studies often point out the various stages of evolution in each individual incarnation. For those of us who are more evolved we have to remember that the less evolved maybe can't help themselves. I think part of being advanced is allowing each one the time it takes to grow into realization. The primitive, brutal, beat the enemy with a club behavior has been around for eons. But I think we will eventually move beyond it. It's hard to witness, but maybe it will strengthen the forces of good. I know I'm scrambling to keep improving. It's my only real hope.

Excellent, Nancy! Your observation re: filibuster -- that the issues are deeper than apparent reminded me of an observation.

Those supportive of this administration seem to have one link in common. They do not examine their own acts, or accept any culpability. The "problems" with this country have nothing to do with THEM. Rather the "problems" are because of THOSE "welfare people" or because of "immigrants." The problems are often expressed with derision. This is why the Repubs have been so successful. They operating from and promote the same perspective.

If Dems were to have a resounding comback to this kind of irresponsibility perhaps they should consult Dr. Phil. ;-)

Have a story to share about Frist. Beyond believing he's been gifted through those "Good People (Who) Beget(ing) Good People," Frist exemplifies the above perspective.

He asked a friend of ours (a leader of a local Islamic organization and who happens to be of Middle Eastern origin)if he knew of any terrorists!!!!!!!!! Imagine this. He had just been introduced to Frist at a public function and one of the first things out of Frist's mouth is this?????? Though my friend was offended, he answered that he had several children going to public schools, he lived and worked in the community. Did Frist not think that if he knew of any "terrorist" he would have turned them in?

Thank YOU all for such great posts and links!

There's nothing like viewing a situation from a different perspective. We white liberals speak often of the pain people of color have suffered in the past, as if we actually know it. Of course we don't. But our world has definitely changed and we are feeling a little discomfort, with lots more to come, I am sure.

Responding to American parents who post 9/11 see a terrorist round every corner and fear for their children's safety, a Black writer commented that Black mothers have always and still do fear for the safety of their children --- merely walking to and from school.

Afraid the thought police or the Brownshirts are coming for you? Afraid dissent will land you in prison? Well the Justice Department recently reminded us the United States has a larger percentage of its population behind bars than any other nation on earth and crime rates do not explain the appalling figures on incarceration. (Wanna guess what color majority of these folks behind bars are?)

The Black Commentator features some of the best minds on the internet. I impatiently await each new issue for their perspective. Worried the fascists are coming? Fearful of what a few * judicial appointees might do? Here's a view from the Black perspective:

"Mien Hymnal

All fascist movements are particular to the societies in which they emerge. A credible argument can be made that the Jim Crow South was a kind of fascist order: a hyper-violent, one-party state based on racial nationalism, drenched in mythology and religiosity, in which science and rationalism are either rejected or subordinated to the “Manifest Destiny” of the dominant group, and whose organizing mechanism is to unify all white classes against the Black “other” – to the general benefit of the rich.

Whether fascist or not, this is the South that is rising again, threatening to immerse the entire nation in its deadly pageantry, the effect of which is to smother all dissent. Janice Rogers Brown rides a dark float in this macabre procession."

Yes, Black folks have been living in that very America we fear is coming --- for a looonnng time. Maybe if we white libruls get a real taste of it, we can finally eradicate it, replace it with the freedom and equality for all we THOUGHT we had.

Civil War enactment indeed! The first act was a HUGE mistake. Why glorify it? In fact the very rednecks who do wish it to 'rise again' are descendants of those who were cannon fodder in that horror they reverently refer to as "The War Between the States".

Ask Black folks about the Civil War. They will tell you there was nothing 'civil' about it.

This very land my house sits on was once the home of a quiet people who roamed these woods for centuries. My driveway ends onto a trail once used by the 'Redcoats' during the Rev War in pursuit of rebels ... down that trail and across the bridge is the site of battle for our town during the Civil War... once every year one can hear the cannons roar during the 'enactment'... I am so tired of wars --- those fought with guns and those fought with words.

Petty tyrants surround me... within my own loved ones and outward in the neighbors and friends I live among. I am thankful for them, as they do so much to hone and refine my mettle. Let the fascists try and take my power. My Black sisters and brothers have shown me how to walk the walk.

Very interesting thoughts, Jo. I hadn't looked at it that way, but it makes perfect sense.

In other news, Laura Bush was mobbed by hecklers and protesters in Israel. (link below) I think this is the last thing the White House wanted when they put her on this Middle Eastern tour to help clean up America's Image. LOL

And, regardless of the bubble he lives in, this bit of news won't be getting by Bush. How DARE they attack his little lump in the bed?!?!

Jo,

The problem now is that gays/Lesbians are the new African-Americans in this scenario. Every fascist regime needs a "boogeyman" to fear. What is really sick are ethic minorities that vote against gay rights. I know this in my own family with my more native-american extended family not being able to except my preferences and voting republican.

Unfortunately, in my own life, anti-gay descrimination for the first time, has entered my life in a real and sick manner (I wonder if this is tPluto on my nMoon). A long-time friend of mine just got fired from a job the day after they found out he was gay, even after a wonder job evaluation just two weeks earlier.

Thank you so much for allowing me this time to write this. AW is a great place to express ideas and experiences. I am really appreciative for you guys.

Jo and Travieso

Great and true remarks by both of you. I have
always wondered why so many Americans have
to have someone to hate...the Indians, Irish,
Jews, Blacks, foreigners, Mexicans, Japanese,Germans, French, now the gays and the
Chinese. Why do they live in fear? Why are they
afraid to die, if they truly believed in Christ.
I have heard the Civil War (which bores the crap
out of me) called "The Great Unpleasantness" -
for my mind the unpleasantness is that they can't
seem to let go of it - and are still fighting it -
thus the situation that this country is in today.
They have been allowed to carry on with their
beliefs for 140 years, and were rarely bothered
by the Yankees, why now, that they are gaining power to they insist that we follow their dictums
and prejudices? I don't care what anyone does as
long as they don't hurt anyone. It appears that
everything they do hurts someone whether it is the
elderly, poor, Afghans, Iraqi, gays - anyone without power. The Democrats seems to stand around
with their fingers in the air to see which way the
wind in blowing and say "Me Too". The DLC is a
disgrace, and from what I read on this site and
others doesn't represent our wing of the Party.

Maybe it is time for a Progressive Party. If we
don't get that we might as well all lay down and
die.

Me, I'm going to Andromeda...just waiting for my
"ship" to come in.

Posted by: wv on May 22, 2005 04:42 PM

wv,

While I agree that there are some Dems who do stand around with their finger in the air and say "me, too", I must take issue with your blanket generalization of ALL Democrats being that way.

When one starts to insist that this group is "this" way or that group is "that" way, they become no better than those who think "gays" are sick or "blacks" are bad people. Mass generalization is a slippery slope and always ends up in a big, smelly puddle of muck.

Some Democrats are fighting the good fight. Some Republicans are appalled at Bush's actions and policies and refuse to take part. Some gays are mean while others are kind. And so on and so forth. In each group, there will always be those who are impossible to categorize. And why do we feel the need to LABEL everything?

There are Dems who, I feel, still support what I personally believe to be important. But, if we fall victim to Mass Generalization and Labeling, we fail to see the efforts of these brave few and applaud them when appropriate.

Just my two cents ...

I caught a clip of the Galloway testimony and saw the 'look' on Norm Coleman's face. It was the look of cognitive dissonance starting to short circuit. When one's mind is set in limitation thinking and it confronts an expanding energy it has to readjust. His face/aura told me he was not able to deal yet needed to keep face in public. Karma is a b****-slap, huh Norm?

Jonathan

Forty years difference in our ages gives us a
vastly diffenent set of experiences with which
to form our opinions.

When Clinton was elected I was 62 you were 22 -
you feel about him as I felt about Kennedy. I
looked to Clinton as the new JFK, but was deeply
disappointed after a few months in office.
He turned his back on the people who put him
there - blacks and gays especially. There was no
need to give into Sam Nunn and the generals with
the don't ask, don't tell. If he had any balls
he would have done what Harry Truman did - he
integrated the Armed Forces and lived with the
consequences. Clinton turned his back on Lani
Granier as Attorney General, and also the lady
that preceded her (can't remember her name right now.)He also got rid of Dr Joyceln Elders because
she wanted a new look at drugs, and an open discussion of sex in the schools. The Christian
right screamed and he backed down.
Harry and Louise ads made him back down from healthcare. He never had the fortitude to stand up for
anything I think the country needed.
He took the Democrats to the right with the DLC.
When he got caught with Monica - rather than saying "It's none of your goddam business" - he
said " depends what "is" is. He was more interested in Power, not the People. He was in it
for Bill Clinton, not the country...and he is still in it for Bill Clinton. He is closer to the
Bush family than he is with the Tomlinsons. He is
a user of people. And Hillary is extactly like him. She may be good for New York, but not the USA.
She has already appologized to Jewish groups for
kissing Mrs. Arafat on the cheek when she was First Lady. Republicans have already thrown a fundraiser for her in Corning - the President of
Corning Glass (whose brother is a Republican Rep.)
She is moving to the right on religion. She is
inviting Iowans to her home in DC so she can avoid
looking like she is seeking an endorsement for '08
Newt Gingrich has practically endorsed her for
President.
You may well love her. But I will continue to
point out her faults and weaknesses because I don't believe she is suitable to be President.
From where I sit the Democrats may have to lose
both '08 and '12 before they wake up. And we have
to keep on their tails constantly to let them know
we are out here.
I call my Representative and Senators at least
twice a month. I go by my Reps office and talk to
his aide. I send columns (not links) with 18 point
type across the top with questions or statements like " THIS MUST STOP!" "WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON
THIS?" "YOU MUST NOT SUPPORT THIS".
-
One of the Congressmen in West Virigina is minority leader of the Ethics Committee who voted
three time last year to just slap Tom DeLay across
the wrist. I called the newspaper editors in his
district and asked if he was taking money from
DeLay, and suggested an invesitgation be made for
the good of the voters.

I am a Liberal, a Progressive, I really no longer
consider myself a Democrat, although I have never
voted for a Republican in 50 years of voting.
In 1972 I got a call from the Nixon White House
asking me if the President could count on my support. I replied " My dear, I would vote for
Hitler before I would vote for that son-of-a-bitch"

I admit there are some speaking up - but not nearly enough of the supposed "leaders". Barbara
Boxer, Dennis Kucinich, Barbara Lee, Ms Woolsly,
and a congressman from Seattle.
We need people like George Galloway - someone who
is not afraid to call Republicans what they are -
liars and neo Nazis. The tell the religious right
that they are a bunch of bloody hypocrits - not
mollycoddle them...or move closer to them as Hillary suggests.
We are in a cultural war in this country, that
may decide it's future for decades - certainly
the rest of your life. No more Mr. Nice Guy - this
is a fight for our very existence, and we will get
nowhere without taking ACTION ourselves, obviously
there is a great lack of Leadership in the Democratic Party. Is John Kerry the titular head -
if so, just what in HELL is he doing?

As Molly Ivins said the other night on Now -
the Christian Right alays act like victims and
scream the loudest...so they get heard. We should
be demanding a return to the Fairness Doctrine
in TV and Radio. We should be challenging Radio
and TV station licenses. We should be flooding
advertisers with threats of boycotts if they contine supporting them. We should let advertisers
in local papers know that we won't buy their product if they keep advertising in papers with
an editorial policy we don't like.

It is time to get off our collective asses and
TAKE BACK AMERICA, only support politicians who
will assist us and are as committed as we are.

You can get the email and snail mail address of
every Representative and Senator on line. They
don't know where you live by your email address so
give them a piece of your mind.

Clinton was half-right the other day when he said don't look to the past. If you don't remember
the past you're bound to repeat it. My disappointment with he is that he fails to acknowledge his part, along with his buddies 41 and 43,in the criminal behavior of spreading Depleated Uranium in Iraq, Afghanistan and Bosnia
causing untold deaths of innocents for millenia.
Already over 340,000 Americans have died since the
Gulf War and well over a million Iraqis.

I don't want anymore "leaders" like these, sorry!
To me they should all be behind bars.

wv,

I'm not saying you can't disagree with me or support who you want. Please re-read my Post. You'll notice I didn't question your choices. All I'm saying is that by Generalizing or Labeling a group of people, we become lazy and make assumptions that EVERYONE in the group is the same. Obviously, and statistically, that isn't the case.

We do have Leaders in the Democratic Party. My sense is that they're fighting the Party Grand Poo-bahs for the right to speak out as loud as we do. When they realize that won't work, they'll say "screw it, I'll speak out anyway" and do so.

I do write my Representatives (I'm lucky with Clinton and Schumer here in NY) and I also write those that AREN'T my Rep as well as Editors and Reporters. I do take action, but I have neither your anger nor your willingness to strongly judge people as "right" or "wrong". Not to say that either of those two qualities are "bad" ... if they serve one to take action and demand change, so much the better, right?

I suspect our disagreements stem from the different approaches we take. Being a Diplomat is in my blood. I can't help but see both sides of the coin and fight with every fiber of my being to not label someone "wrong" or "right". I seek compromise and everyone working together ... when possible.

Perhaps I'll get lucky and get some of your Fighter in me. :-) Who knows? But I don't question your choices or your approach. I just recognize we're different. That's all.

WV, Jonathan,
We need all kinds of personality types, to deal with this horrendous problem. We need fighters and diplomats, thinkers, visualizers, and a lot of other, approaches, skills talents,..................................
If you havn't experienced the JFK presidency, how can you compare it with the Clinton Presidency? There is none if you were there. At 21, I proudly voted for the first time and HE WON! What a high! Of course we now know that a lot of dead people in Chicago voted! But it didn't matter, because he was working toward the "greater good".
( WHO FRAMED that Presidency as Camalot? Was it the media? Or was it those who ended it? )
All the others after JFK were just Ho hum or "BAD" It really made CLinton look good by comparison......but I have to say I agree with WV on his anylasis, of the accomplishments.
Funny me; 25 years ago I thought that when we entered the age of Aquarius, we would be able to "mind share" another's experience, complete with all the emotions, and sensory bells and whistles! Try to absorb what WV is saying, take it in through your pores. The most difficult thing about ageing I find is not the wrinkles, and flab, but the inability to REALLY COMMUNICATE history to those who come after us!
I agree that labels are divisive, but I think WV is talking more about strategizing. After the game is over you don't get any more pitches!
I am a Democrat, They're doing too little too late! It's been 3 1/2 months since Barbara Boxer earned those orange roses!

New thought............given his history of making the opposite statement to what's really happening; W has said he will use the veto to block cloning. Makes me wonder how old are little HW, Karl, Dickie, and W, e& Co. ?

Nevertheless...we fight on.

WV I'm glad I'm not alone in capitalizing, and tough talk to my Congressional representatives! I e-mail any of them, ( any state) if I have something to say!

Clinton did tremendous damage to this country. And he's worse than many because he conned the people and hid behind a 'democratic facade'. He did more than you know since he operated in a lot of secrecy. He has Neptune in the first and that can be quite the deceiver.

It looks like the Koran flushing has turned out to be a big problem. Sending Laura out with that horrible neverending smile pasted on her perfectly coiffed head is a sure indication. And it seems to be failing. It looks like the Mohammedans have had enough. I can't figure out if this administration is really trying to mollify or if it is it further mocking them. Maybe they don't even know, and are just out of control of the whole situation. I don't know how much longer they will be able to go on killing Moslems.

Posted by: jm on May 22, 2005 10:26 PM

so, who did more damage? Clinton, Bush 41, Bush 43, Reagan? Seems to me that, for some, if one is in Power then one is destined to do "damage" and be a con artist regardless of the good they do.

I just don't buy that theory. All I know is that, when Clinton was in office, I was proud to be an American, saw people around me who were proud to be here and the thought of leaving my Country and starting somewhere new had never occured to me. With Bush, I wrestle with those thoughts every single day.

Posted by: Jonathan on May 22, 2005 10:35 PM

Pat QOP (Question of Party?)

You are right about the feeling when Kennedy got
elected. It was wonderful. My boss at TV Guide at
the time made the whole staff come into his office
every time there was a press conference. He gave
us such a feeling of HOPE.
Unfortunately the man from Hope didn't deliver, but he looked good whilst running after Nixon,
Ford, Carter, Reagan and Bush I and I was very
happy and encouraged. However those feelings faded
after a few months - as his term continued I tried
to figure it out astrologically - he is a Leo and
needs center stage - his Libra rising meant he did't want any waves, balance - alas his Taurus
moon meant he thought with his penis. A big disappointment. I didn't vote in '96, it wasn't
worth it.
I have voted for my Senators (Byrd and Rockefeller) once each, and never again. Unless
someone really good shows up in '08 I will leave
President blank as well. I will be 78 and I don't
intend to ever again vote for the lesser of two
evils. I will only vote for a person I REALLY want
to be Chief Executive.

Posted by: wv on May 22, 2005 10:40 PM

You were conned, Jonathan. I witnessed the whole thing in utter amazement from the very beginning.

It's not a contest as to who did more damage than the other.

The fact that you were lulled into thinking everything was so great here is exactly the problem. At least now our fundamental flaws are exposed. Problems that have been here for a long time...way before Clinton. You can't eat yourself into oblivion to the tune of mindnumbing Muzak, escape all the time onto the highways in gas guzzling SUV's, watch endless shit on television, and consume more fossil fuel products in a day than you can count on your expensive calculator, and expect to survive in this troubled world.

I would like leadership that at least acknowledges our problems... can at least discuss them honestly.

His Taurus penis is also in the eighth house... his power, his weapon..which happened to turn on him. He mocked the Presidency and laughed at the people. It was a big party for him. When I heard that he was engaging in fellatio whilst talking on the phone to some great world leader I was not pleased. Mostly by the fact that I had to hear about it.

I never voted for him. Couldn't possibly.

Ross Perot may have been "crazy" (his theme song) but he was also psychic.

Practically everything he said would happen has.

Clinton gave the country away - we've lost
millions of jobs because of his trade agreements.
Unions are weaker, and practically ignored.

He gave away the 'public airwaves'.

He courted and gave in to big business.

But he is a great orator - and he gave us a
snowjob.

I may be one of the few here who likes Clinton. Neptune in the first does not necessaarily mean a deciever. What is the condition of it's house ruler? Is it bonafide by aspect to the benefics, and is its ruler in sect? I use traditional rulerships and essential dignities.

and wv, thanks for the kuddos. I really need it now since all that has been going on. SW Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith? What's perhaps most shocking is Lucas' subtle unveiling as a closet liberal!!! My non-political brother even noted a similarity between one of Anakin Skywalker's lines and one of GWB's. There are some eerie lines throughout the movie ("So this is how liberty dies--with thunderous applause?"- Queen Padme/Natalie Portman) and some classic Orwellian deception tactics. On top of that, it does tie up all of the loose ends leading up to Episode 4 and is better than the last 2.

This has been your capsule AW movie review--now, back to REAL NEWS as only AW can report it!!!
Namaste and truth to all(esp. my internet girlfriend Old Granny. So good to see you here and everywhere too. Thanks for the pearls of wisdom)!!!!!

Listened to the MPBS Mainewatch program again tonight. The guest from the submarine base At Portsmouth NH, said they were going to PRIVATIZE the repairs of the submarines. ( In Jacksonville Fla.)
That while they can go out to sea, 1700 miles, the Coastguard is limited to 200 miles out! We have a 60% increase in shipping in Maine, from China, Asia ( other countries) & Europe.
Makea a real farce of homeland security doesn't it?

WV, What's with Sen Byrd? I thought he was pretty good?
I have questioned some of Rockefellar's decisions.

Pat C, That was a good article on China. I had a Chinese Prof. for Ancient Chinese Art History at Maine College of Art. A very interesting course! Before emmigrating he had taught a secret art class in China, when it was forbidden. He had visited the previous summer and showed slides of his peers contemporary paintings. Very exciting work!

Jonathan, not having seen the offending email, I am just going to say something incredibly sexist....all men think with their dicks.

There...

Taurus moons are just more LOVING about it....LOL

I was an ardent Clinton supporter also....as the alternatives for the last 25 years have been atrocious....so I am glad we had him, if only because he was good to look at, created a good economy, and made me want to be proud for a change of america. Whither go the Clintons? The way of all politians? He's probably still alive because of his ability to land on his feet....unlike some other presidents from the past. That is something....

Garry...as soon as I read the review of the new SW movie I knew where it was going to go....Lucas is no fool, and he has based his films on mythos....good and evil....he just had a lot of really good evil lines out there to use. I am glad you liked it.....

Pat QOP, it is my prayer that we will always be free to teach and create art. Can you imagine how it must feel to have to hold secret art classes?

Posted by: Pat C on May 23, 2005 01:38 AM

Yes,

Judi Gemini, that is a sexist remark. Thank you for making me feel less comfortable here. Thank you for ostracizing a whole group of the population.

Its really sad. I'm sure you think of yourself as a great liberal, but on a deeper level, good republicans are working under the same dictum that men "all think with their dicks". That is why they want so hard to curb sexuality and gay sexuality in particular. To them, male sexuality is so perserve and disgusting that it needs to be highly controlled by religious law and the "purity and sanctity" of a female(i.e virgin Mary iconic figure) who is less inclined to the raging sexuality of men.

I am a male feminist Judi. I think the future of this world depends on the rights of women. They will truly save us from themselves, but I refuse to make generalizations that hurt and ostracizes others. That is what conservatives do. We already have too much of that in the World right now, and from someone who has often been on the other end of the insult, I can't do that to others.

Also, from someone who works with children and knows something about human nature, if you tell a group of people that they are "pigs", or any adjective for that matter, they begin to fulfill that expectation. If you tell a kid he is bad, he begins to act "bad" because its your expectation of him. Name-calling just makes the problem worse.

Travierso

You will note that Judi opened her post with "I'm
going to say something terribly sexist" and
ended it with LOL (Laughting Out Loud). It was
a joke - but a belief however - to a great
many women, and a lot of men have done nothing
to disavow it. I would have a hard time naming
twenty or so of my married friends who have not
strayed. There have been several studies measuring how often men think about sex...it is an
astoundingly high percentage. I don't think that
men were born to be monogamous...they were busy
spreading their seed...and most religions had no
problem with it. It is still praticed in this
country although it is illegal.

Also remember the divorce rate in this country is
50% - and most men who get divorced end up marrying someone much younger than they are. Then
there are the trophy wives - a clear sign of what
they are thinking with.

The religious right has always had problems with
sex - theirs and everyone else's. But there is
more hypocricy there than any place - Jimmy Swaggart, Rev. Baker, and numerous other pastors.
And don't forget the incest in a great many evangelical families. There are few pedophiles
among homosexuals but a great many among hetrosexuals. Have you ever been in a bar at closing time - believe me, they are not thinking'
with their brains. I know, I used to own a bar.

Travieso....I don't know how you say that what I said makes you feel less comfortable here...I was making an admitted sexist remark (which is why I SAID it) as a joke for Jonathan....not sitting at my computer thinking how I could make YOU feel uncomfortable. You have projected a great deal on to me...luckily, it doesn't make ME feel uncomfortable to be attacked and projected on to......

You could easily have mentioned your interests without having to read me a lesson. And BTW....I don't think men or women deserve special treatment. That is one of the things that is hard to grasp for some....(I don't mean in terms of citizenship issues, or rights) I mean....we need to acknowledge that men and women are physiologically different....and politically speaking, it is my guess that those who say the other sex has more answers than the other sex are equally deluded. Women with power are often extraordinarily cruel......I see no difference between sexes in that sense. What we should be concerned about is how people use POWER....not whether a woman or a man can 'do it better' .....

WV...a great outpouring....wonderful post, and impassioned. Thanks for the ideas on how to bombard these bastards who are supposedly our leaders....(I'm not insulting legitimate bastards, now, either (LOL)....but it feel good to say it...bastards, bastards, they are all spineless protoplasmic idiots bought and paid for in The New World Order) male and female lizard people (I'm not insulting lizards tho)....oh...sorry, I got carried away.

Clinton is my generation, and of course, the Hope.....from Hope, so WV, you saw things 'not so close' to the heart as I did....you recovered, moved on, created another way to cope . I am still shell shocked I must admit, and pretty useless politically....it is the same feeling I had when RFK was shot....the SAME thing....I think when Clinton had his operation on his heart, they gave him a republican tissue transplant.

I was too young to vote for JFK, but old enough to grieve for them all, all those bright lights extinguished.

Clinton's bright light is tarnished, but I still have trouble seeing past the destruction from the other side (if he wasn't out of integrity, nothing would have happened). I hope that I can continue to see a truer accessment of who he is. And never forget, we would not have this conversation had the real winner of this election, and the previous one, actually held office. We are in one alternative reality, for sure. Is there some higher purpose? Is there a story we can't grasp? Well, by the end of the Clinton years, I was fatigued with boredom.....and wanted to feel revitalized. So as they say, becareful what you ask for, because you may not like it when you get it....as I am no longer bored.
Was it you, Pat QOP who mentioned that all the astrologers get to polish their skills from all of this? Would we even be on this board had Gore won? Damn parallax views are tough to handle.

Thanks WV....I appreciate your post. I also must add to the power issue....that it is way beyond a sexual issue. We live in a sexually repressive society, which means hetero and homosexuality both suffer equally. I truly believe that the unifiying of spirit will come to be more important than bodies....and that the spirit which chose a body which is hetero did it for a reason, and the spirit which chose the body of a homosexual of either sex did it for a reason. If only we as a society could see it that way. As for power, the same thing goes...male, female, gay or straight, people also choose power. How they use it is a different issue, and the most IMPORTANT ONE OF ALL. Which is why I can call some of these people bastards....they have used power to diminish, destroy, hurt, deplete, gain and hoard against their fellow human beings. Bastard is too good a word, I think, for people who use power this way. (Please do not think I am insulting people who have been born to the awful term of 'illegitimate'....I barf on that, too.)

Posted by: judi gemini on May 23, 2005 03:15 AM

It's my understanding... deep inside... that it's precisely BECAUSE of splitting the form/body from "spirit/mind" in our collective consciousness that the problem of ANY kind is exacerbated... particularly in the realm of sexuality. A clue would be looking at what religious monsters have done over the centuries... always, always, always the burden has fallen on the Body & Women. People kept from the development of the kundulini of the body is kept from their rightful inheritance of Illumination & Realization. This is one of my major problems with New Age metaphysics... split, split, split... unwhole, unwhole, unwholey. A big bah & humbug.

Hey ho Jonathan! When you awake from your slumber rest assured that I expressed no idea about the ease with which you can be conned. You don't have to be easily conned to fall for Clinton. He's good at it.

The male member certainly presents a problem. It's almost as if it has a life and consciousness of its own. It dogs men all their lives as they try to figure out what to do with it. It gets up when they don't and sleeps when they want it to get up. I've noticed that some are more successful than others in developing a workable relationship with the pesky thing. I wouldn't say men 'think with their dicks' but they react a lot to them and think about them quite frequently. I think it's very hard for those of the female persuasion to understand the dilemma. You gotta have one to know one.

Joanna Oregon....had to laugh....religious and monsters has gone so well together thru history. It took 400 years to let poor Galileo out of his prison!

Yes....it is the split which is the problem, and the problem is, as long as one is split, one does't understand 'whole'.....like trying to get a job, and the thing you have to have to get the job.... is a previous job....

Posted by: judi gemini on May 23, 2005 04:26 AM

I hope I don't offend anyone with this. It is a thought I had recently.

I think there is a relationship between the hyper macho, militaristic mood in this country by the ruling party and the paternalistic Christian Right and their wretched intolerance of gays. These macho GOP are so disconnected from the caring, nurturing, softer side of themselves that they have spit it off and feel a need to attack it in the world at large. Clinton, who I have always loved in spite of what ever shortcomings he had, was very much at peace with his softer, more caring side. Little of the current mood of homophobia was in evidence during his term.

Posted by: Nancy on May 23, 2005 04:28 AM

You're right Joanna.

We're taught from the beginning to be ashamed of our bodies and deriving pleasure from our sexuality is discouraged then punished. Can you imagine how confusing this is to the emerging creature? A totally normal response...touching and pleasure... becomes associated with guilt and pain.
It doesn't make sense. No wonder we're in this situation. Life apparently designed these parts to give pleasure to be assured of procreation. If we believe in the goodness of the spirit it seems to me we would trust its good judgement in choosing these amazing bodies to be housed in. We owe to our higher selves to love our bodies.

In one of the South Pacific Islands, Samoa I think, the children are allowed to expess their sexuality freely. It used to be a relatively sexually healthy society, although I don't know how it is now. It would be interesting to know what kind of religion they have.

We will always be fascinated with the best parts of each other which also give us an endless source of humor when least expected. Thank you for the giggle ... much needed tonight!

Posted by: Camile on May 23, 2005 04:39 AM

JudiGemini, Thank you so much for the reply. Anyway, It is hard for me to think that heterosexuality is just as repressed as homosexuality. I hate to be a little militant about this, but time for action is now. Straight america has put us gays and lesbians is a position where we need to educate straight america or we will be relagated permenantly to gay ghettos or even worse.

Remmber, JudiGemini, these are people like the county commisioners of Rhea County Tennessee who wanted to ban gays from the county and charge them with crimes of nature. Or, these are senators like Oklahoma senators like Coburn who want to ban gays from teaching in public schools or work in child care. Women have had their civil rights movement (and it is still going on) now it is time for us to have ours. The gay community right now, including me, are scared, afraid, and angry. In fact, A good friend of mine just got fired from his job the day after his employer found out he was gay, even after a steller evaluation. My sexuality is an issue BECAUSE IT IS AN ISSUE.

Anyway, I'm glad that you didn't mean any offnese, because I do believe that the anti-gay movement in fundamentalism really is a demonization fo male sexuality. I think this has alot to do with the Christian obsession with the Virgin Mary iconic figure and women holding a purity that men cannot obtain. In the end, everyone looses. Men are ultimately demonized(remember, Satan is always a male) and women cannot fully enjoy their sexuality without being considered whores. I'm glad to have your support.

And jm, the male member is not a pesky thing. I love my penis.

Posted by: Travieso on May 23, 2005 04:42 AM

The good thing now is that the homophobia isn't really sweeping the country. At the same time defenders of gay rights are making headway. Gay marriage is becoming protected by law and one of the midwestern states just overturned its gay marriage ban declaring it unconstitutional. Maybe the attention to the subject through the Christian right homophobia is actually contributing to the progress.

I noticed Shylurker, I also noticed that England is suffering the same problems and they are starting to beat their drums for honest elections.

Full Moon tomorrow expect intense situation to rise. Saturn is in the 10th house in the Washington, DC chart at 4:18pm. There is an exact inconj (to the minute) from Saturn in the 10th to Pluto in the 3rd. (Pluto rules the 2nd, the house the full moon resides and the Moon rules the 10th and Saturn rules the 4th of endings) It might be that the Dems, not knowing what else to do or how to do it makes a filibuster comprimise, enraging their base (Mars squares Venus from the 5th to the 9th) Because this Full Moon sextiles and trines Chiron (respectively) the Dems might think they are healing a situation, but they would be wrong or making a mis-step. Venus and Mars rules the Asc. and Des. in this chart. At the very least there will be a lot of powerful words hurled around the Senate. With Pluto retrograde, decisions will come back to haunt. Saturn is only 5 days away from a conjunction with the US Mercury. I still think an overwhelming sadness will clutch at the nation.

The Full Moon Venus at 16 Gemini is only a few minutes from the Venus Transit of last year, setting off the changes for 2005/2006. Venus square Mars can indicate a sexual scandal or intense jealousy. On the 24, the Moon/Mars/Venus will be in a t-square, anger for this week and leading into the New Moon on June 6th.

Check to see where the Moon/Sun (2degrees Gemini/Sag falls in you own charts. Us mere mortals out here will experience sensitive feelings and raw emotions. Arguments based on jealousy or feeling disenfranchised or marginalized. If Saturn or Pluto hits anything there could be farewells, confusion over what to to or how to handle power. A need to be right or backing off a situation when one should go forward. This Full Moon falls directly across my Uranus in the 2nd and 8th house, money issues or fears. Losing something I value, an argument with one of my children, a need to be careful of accidents. Those are examples of the Full Moon on my Uranus. Think of your own.

Yea, verily... the fundie nut has not NEAR the problem with lesbians as they do with gay men because men are 'sposed to be completely split off from their inner "feminine" selves & are severely punished, incl death, if they aren't. If men were integrated with their bodies/penises, I daresay the penis would not exhibit NEAR the unruliness & rebellion that it does. ;O) Unhappy, stressed, uptight men are easily goaded into violent behaviors... which is exactly what the "rulers" want. Happy, balanced, healthy men can't be forced/manipulated into assaultive/war behaviors.

I admire the man, who is gay, openly working with himself as "female." 'Course, that doesn't include the gay homophobe & misogynist. That one is exceedingly dangerous, sick & just plain psychopathic... something the male-ordered dominator religions work to create in abundance.

Posted by: JoannaOregon on May 23, 2005 05:25 AM

oh Sally....16 Gemini is my Sun/Saturn conjunction....to have Venus there explains my good humor recently....and not getting angry so much (there is a difference between Mars and Venus influences....which is why I told Jonathan men with Taurus Moons are pretty nice!)

2 deg. Gemini is right there in the 8th, with the Sag in the 2nd. My granddaughter will be 4 on Tuesday...Sun Saturn conj. at 4 Gemini....

today was a beautiful day with a birthday party for the 2 year old (may 18) and the 4 year old (May 24)....blue skies, warm, lots of people at the birthday party at the park....and the added thing of a neighborhood annual party, so they had musicians AND a magician. The man who did that party came over and invited all the children to have fun with the magician. Venus rules!

Travieso, I have had gay friends since I was a new intern at the advertising dept of the May Co. in LA in 1965....believe me, I am supportive of gays. I still think that every person has to take responsibility in the long run, for who they are (which is, of course, the BIG problem with the rethugs/B**its - it is always someone else's problem_). It helps that split Joanna was talking about....and I was very clear that I didn't include the blackhearted and evil exclusionary acts of people against ( everyone name your own movement....). all people should have equal rights.....black, red, brown, yellow, violet, blue, and a nice shade of lavender not to mention white, men women, gay, straight, because in the end, it is DEVOLVEment that happens when we target people for things they can't help. Our own devolvement....hmmmm....the rethugs should be devolving to microorganisms in time.

On the other hand, the kid in my building who has had 8 parties over the last few months which start around midnight and end in the early morning and which are so loud in my apt that I can't sleep...which happened again on Friday eve/Sat morning....well....he had been warned before. I called the police (Mars - action! finally, I was wimpy for 3 months, giving him a chance to 'get it'), and when the patrolman went to the door the kid said he was having a party because he was going to be deployed to Iraq.

The management company had had enough....he got a 3 day eviction.

Now....he tried to use deployment to Iraq as his excuse. If he is going, then....I hope he learns and survives.

But I don't understand the sense of 'we're special and can keep people awake all night, no problem, we're going to Iraq"....and you will see this again and again in people who pull the vicim card. (Molly Ivins said that about Christians whining that they are actually victims...I hear white men whine about it also, about how the brow or black or green people have made them victims.)

No...you got evicted because after 3 warnings, you continued the same behavior. It is an easy lesson for most little kids to understand as they are sent to their rooms.....but for some reason this kid chose to be a pain to the people in his environment. Activity +behavior = you are a help or a pain in the butt. Your choice. Live with it.

What is interesting is that women have been down as long as gays...perhaps longer. It is just a different kind of down...what's worse, being the equivelent of a pack animal and sexual slave or living in fear of a mob killing you for something you can't change? there is no choice there.

Posted by: judi gemini on May 23, 2005 05:28 AM

jm, one of the mundane ways that Saturn to Mercury can manifest is "the moment of saying goodbye" I cannot tell you what I have around that suggestion, alas, there would have to be some really hard work in the next 5 days to bring us a "Nixon moment." So, in lieu of "saying so long folks" it could bring us to some cold hard realities in this country, Saturn can sure throw cold water on any fantasy. I also expect more reports coming out regarding the danger of the housing bubble in the country.

This won't be our only "goodbye" moment this year, Saturn will conjunct GWB's Mercury three times over the next year, maybe he will decide to leave and throw the entire party into chaos. Ah, what dreams may come.

Posted by: Sally on May 23, 2005 05:32 AM

And of course, the Moon in Scorpio is in my first house.

Good good points Joanna. My son in law is one of the intergrated ones....

I wonder if the reason that Earth has been called the 'prison' planet, or the 'kindegarten for souls' planet is because when you look at what humanz do to each other (and to Gaia) you can only conclude that we are young savages or criminals. Maybe both! How can so many people forget 'do unto others as you would have them do unto you?"

Posted by: judi gemini on May 23, 2005 05:36 AM

JudiGemini,

I know what you mean. Discrimination is axperienced with different "masks". Everyone experiences it is different ways. Judi, you as a woman who has experienced something that is unigue and totally different then me. And likewise, my experiences are probably so different from yours. We all have our own stories.

My concern for my own welfare is not a negation of you or anyone else. But, I do beleive that it's time for gays to really take care of themselves and fight. It is getting really scary.

Anyway, this is the Jupiter in Leo on my midheaven, but I do believe that all people are good. Most men are good and most women are good. Even the most conservative are good people, but they are just so isolated and unable to see the victims of their own politics of fear.

Posted by: Travieso on May 23, 2005 05:40 AM

Yes, what dreams, Sally. Remember that Saturn coming to the opposition to natal USA Pluto. I really do wonder about the housing market. I think George will be dealt with.

The statement supports same-sex marriage "in the interest of maintaining and promoting mental health." <<

There is one thing that binds us all together. Men/Women, rich/poor, black/white all religious, the powerful and the weak, the right and the left and that is FEAR. It binds us closer than anything on the planet. We pray, spew, control, steal, kill, repeat affirmations, anything to help us over the fear. The ones who would control all the rest are the most fearful, but we all worship at the alter of "fear," it's a good day or hour when we don't feel it.

It's our biggest challenge and I've spent a lifetime trying to conquer it, just when I think it's gone, it rises up to put a choke hold on me and I start all over. I don't ever remember seeing and smelling so much fear not only in this country, but around the world. There must be a reason. One can never conquer any addiction until one can look it in the face. Let's all try it.

Posted by: Sally on May 23, 2005 05:54 AM

Judi,

Along with "do unto others" is "love thy neighbor", and I know how you feel. That dictum has been severely challenged in my Aries rising life with three planets in Gemini in the third. Police, late nights, and neighbors have been occurrences I am familiar with. Dancing till dawn every night is a lovely idea when it is not directly over my head.

One of them busted my door at 2:00 in the morning over a note I left on her door requesting that she do something about the isane cat she had there illegally...also dancing all night. She was invited to leave, but the amazing thing is...we really liked each other. I have Venus in the 3rd.

Neighbor karma is interesting. I'm about to get a new one next door and Pluto is opposing my 3rd house Venus. I can't imagine what I'm getting next.

I am working with an art director who is young, prob. 26-28....what is starting to be apparent is that the younger ADs don't communicate as well as the older ones....they have it all in their heads and haven't gotten to the point of realizing that other people can't read their minds. (Hey, I'm guilty of it). What I mean is, it is hard work to communicate! So many levels of meaning to everything....

JM...yeh, and the people over me are leaving on June 15....! so I wonder what I will get also! PS...haven't replied to you....I agree with almost everything you have said except about Clinton....isn't that funny? oh well....good luck to both of us and neighbors...good time to set an intention to have good ones.

Sally....a psychic reverend at the Church of Divine Man in Berkeley once said to me that fear was the earth's original game.....conquering fear is then the process of growing and learning. I don't think we are in as much danger as I remember in the 50's and the other nuclear option....or Vietnam, or for those of us born (and in my case living in Hawaii) the fear people had then in WWII....let along the horror of the war in the Pacific and in Europe. At least not in the same way. Once we have fear about something, we are in the process of waking up. The saber tooth tiger and the giant lions and bears are waiting to chase us cave persons! On the other hand, I might just be lulled to sleep on a Venus transit....

I don't think beings experienced much or any fear till the advent of patriarchy, or Dominator Model... a system that specifically used fear & splitting to gain "control over" in terrible ways. I think those severe traumas & stress were then "locked into" our bodies/beings on a cellular level. That was the first evil & the space from which all other evils flowed. I think beings, integrated with their selves as Body & within their Gaia world, had much fear at all.

Judi G,
We knew fear in our childhoods, wehn there was much more valid reason for it.
I KNOW that there were many merchant ships destroyed by German submarines off the east coast before USA entered the war.. ( I was under 2 years old when that happened.) My KNOWING has been proved true by the recent NBC documentary of the divers that discovered the wreck of one of those subs, 60 miles off the NJ coast! the German records placed its demise off the coast of Tripoli!!!!
To young people 9/11 has had the same effect, magnified by the MSM constant drum beat :The world has changed since then!"
#$%$%(HOGWASH!&$%^) WE WEREN'T IN AS MUCH DANGER................but LOSING A DEMOCRACY IS ABOUT AS DANGEROUS A CONDITION AS IT GETS!

40% of evangelicals are democrats or political moderates?

Evangelicals ponder wisdom of being a "conservative political movement"

Evangelicals rethink their public face
Faithful must branch out beyond politics, leaders say
By Alex Johnson
Reporter, MSNBC
Updated: 7:40 a.m. ET May 23, 2005

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7911488 /

Evangelical leaders are re-examining whether American evangelicalism has suffered from its portrayal as a conservative political movement rather than as a broad religious philosophy rooted in a literal reading of the Bible.

Although evangelical leaders have been among the most prominent spokesmen for conservative causes, “evangelical” and “religious right” are not the same thing. Studies indicate that as many as 40 percent of Americans who call themselves evangelicals are politically moderate or identify with the Democratic Party.

But two recent declarations by evangelical and conservative religious thinkers suggest that evangelicals have become too closely identified with conservative political activism, at the expense of attracting new followers. The declarations are likely to be hot topics of conversation when the Southern Baptist Convention holds its annual meeting next month in Nashville, Tenn.

“Because evangelicals have been portrayed as being very, very limited in their range of societal concerns, there is an element of challenge in the evangelical community to say, ‘Let’s not get caught up in narrow partisan concerns,’” said Mark L. Sargent, provost of Gordon College, a nondenominational Christian institution in Wenham, Mass. “Many evangelicals say they feel very alienated with the partisan rhetoric in the nation.”

"Fear" as a universal force is powerful, it doesn't matter what we are afraid of or whether we perceive that we or someone else has more to fear that others. It's not the circumstance, it's the emotion that drives actions.

Mike could be correct regarding Pluto square US Neptune, and it could blow the lid off of things here in the US. It's a generational aspect and is known to create scandal, loss, overwhelming forces out of a person's (country) control, making it necessary to scramble and go with the flow.

Pluto is reaching the 1st square to the conjunction back in the late 60's, a time of great unrest and anger in this country that continued to build through the early 70's until someone's head rolled for the mess and that head was Nixon.

Then, as now, there was a massive effort on the part of the White House to hide, confuse, lie, make threats, etc. Even an attempt to terrify the public by opening fire on students on the campuses, such as Kent State. Sometimes I think it wasn't Watergate that was the tipping point to Nixon's fall, but Kent State.

You can almost feel the hum of anger over the war, over this right wing Christian movement (article on MSNBC regarding Evangical Christians wanting to distance themselves from the right wing) over the lies, over the election, the filibuster, Bolton and the list goes on.

There is a transiting T-square between the Pluto/Neptune square with Venus, then the Sun, then Mercury and the Moon throwing herself around the chart on a regular basis. Lots of opportunity for scandal to surface. I don't know Mike if I think the WH is worried, I wonder if they even compute the danger to them, or if their arrogance has reached such heights they figure nothing can touch them.

One thing for sure with the Pluto/Neptune square, it causes disorientation, confusion and loss of control as events happen rapidly. I've been expecting "Daniel Ellsberg" to pop up from the White House, I know he's there, sneaking papers out of the WH, DOD, Homeland Security, Secretary of State, he is somewhere.

As events continue to unfold out here and the American public becomes more and more disillusioned, the media becomes more and more angry at being blamed and their ratings continue to fall, info coming out of the UK, Galloway coming back for a speaking tour of the US; the right person at the right time is going to pop up and give out some important and damning information.

Well, the media has certainly earned the disdain that is accumulating in their direction. They are now an international disgrace, and frankly have been for years now. There is no oversight and very little moral guidance of their own. Let's hope the revamping of of US starts with the press and all the rest of the media. That can make all the difference.

Ego is a stealth bomber and can fly under the radar. Fear is the ego that says 'you need me'. Ego is the glue of maya/illusion. Ego are the many onion layers over our one light. Ego/fear = division. If we can continue to remember that fear arises out of the one light then we can send it back to it's origin. Fear is but a speck on the field of light. Our inner work of purifying the mind, our inner eye on the ego manifestations in our psychologies first, hopefully division would not exist. Big call, but the Universal energies are ripe for those who can transcend fear and tolerate alot of bs without losing the center.

Blair faces US probe over secret Iraq invasion plan
May 22, 2005

SENIOR American congressmen are considering sending a delegation to London to investigate Britain’s role in preparations for the war in Iraq.

Democratic opponents of President George W Bush have seized on a leaked Downing Street memo, first published three weeks ago by The Sunday Times, as evidence that American lawmakers were misled about Bush’s intentions in Iraq.

A group of 89 Democrats from the House of Representatives has written to Bush to ask whether the memo is accurate.

It recounts a discussion between Tony Blair and his military and intelligence advisers about the Bush administration’s views in July 2002, three months before Congress authorised the White House to go to war with Iraq.

The Democrat letter, drafted by Congressman John Conyers of Michigan, said that the memo raised “troubling new questions regarding the legal justifications for the war as well as the integrity of your own administration”.

US administration officials tried to shrug off the letter last week. Scott McClellan, Bush’s spokesman, said the White House saw “no need” to respond to an affair that one newspaper dubbed “memogate”. Yet Democratic opponents of the war appear determined not to let the matter drop. “They (the Republicans) are trying desperately to wait it out and hope that nobody will bring this up,” Conyers said. “But this thing will not be snuffed out. ”

The memo was written by Matthew Rycroft, a foreign policy aide to Blair. It described a meeting on July 23, 2002 where Sir Richard Dearlove, head of MI6 who had recently returned from meeting CIA officials in Washington, was quoted as saying that Bush wanted “to remove Saddam (Hussein) through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD (weapons of mass destruction)”.

Dearlove also noted that “the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy”.

Jack Straw, the foreign secretary, was quoted as describing the case against Saddam as “thin”. At the time Bush was still publicly insisting that no decision had been made to go to war and that he was committed to a diplomatic solution.

Conyers said the memo raised “very serious questions about an abuse of power , . . it is a very serious constitutional matter”. Under the US constitution, only Congress has the power to declare war, and it was not until mid-October 2002 that Bush obtained the necessary authorisation to begin military preparations.

“There are members saying that if they knew then what they know now they wouldn’t have given him those powers (to wage war),” Conyers said.

By sending investigators to London, Conyers hopes to stir the US media into re-examining a story largely ignored in America since Bush’s re-election victory in November.

“I deplore the fact that our media have been so reticent on the question of whether there was a secret planning of a war for which neither the Congress nor the American people had given permission,” Conyers said.

“We have The Sunday Times to thank for this very important activity. It reminds me of Watergate, which started off as a tiny little incident reported in The Washington Post. I think that the interest of many citizens is picking up.”

Another Democrat who signed the letter said that the affair could have repercussions on mid-term elections next year. “People are beginning to understand that those crying in the wilderness (opposing the war in Iraq) were not without rationale,” said Congressman Danny Davis of Illinois.

“If we had a plan which people believed was going to take us out (of Iraq) they would feel much better. But the fact is there has not been a real strategy to get us out.”

* Home and away, the bush doctrine unravels

The Business May 22, 2005 12:00 AM (GMT)

It was supposed to herald a new era in internatl relations, a repudiation of the US State Dept's obsession with power politics & a new idealism for the post-communist world that put democracy above stability. But this w/e, the bush doctrine - that the spread of liberty, democracy & human rights s/b the main goal of [ameriCO] foreign policy (with the corollary that [ameriCO] wld no longer do deals with dictators) - lies in tatters & with it most of US foreign policy post-9/11. [ameriCO]'s failure properly & immediately to repudiate Islam Karimov, Uzbekistan's dictator, who has just savagely put down a popular uprising, is inexcusable (& the fact that [ameriCO] has a military base in the country is certainly no excuse). It is yet another blow for those, such as this newspaper, who supported in good faith Mr bush's War on Terror & his invasion of Afghanistan & Iraq. ... http://thebusinessonline.com/33842/Home_and_away_the_Bush_doctrine_unravels

Why Do Pat Tillman's Parents Hate America?

MONDAY, MAY 23, 2005

WHY DO PAT TILLMAN’S PARENTS HATE AMERICA: Maybe we’ve finally found someone who will be allowed to complain about this Admin’s endemic dissembling. We refer to the parents of Pat Tillman, whose comments about their son’s death are reported in today’s Post. Josh White’s summary of the facts sets the stage for the Tillmans’ anger:
WHITE (5/23/05): The latest investigation, written about by The Washington Post earlier this month, showed that soldiers in Afghanistan knew almost immediately that they had killed Tillman by mistake in what they believed was a firefight with enemies on a tight canyon road. The investigation also revealed that soldiers later burned Tillman's uniform and body armor.
That information was slow to make it back to the United States, the report said, and Army officials here were unaware that his death on April 22, 2004, was fratricide when they notified the family that Tillman had been shot.

Over the next 10 days, however, top-ranking Army officials—including the theater commander, Army Gen. John P. Abizaid—were told of the reports that Tillman had been killed by his own men, the investigation said. But the Army waited until a formal investigation was finished before telling the family—which was weeks after a nationally televised memorial service that honored Tillman on May 3, 2004.

The Tillmans draw the obvious conclusions about the reasons for this conduct, which goes all the way up to the chain to Abizaid. And ouch! Although it gets buried deep in White’s piece, Tillman’s mother has fine things to say about the commander-in-chief:
WHITE: Mary Tillman says the government used her son for weeks after his death, perpetuating an untrue story to capitalize on his altruism—just as the Abu Ghraib prison scandal was erupting publicly. She said she was particularly offended when President Bush offered a taped memorial message to Tillman at a Cardinals football game shortly before the presidential election last fall. She again felt as though her son was being used, something he never would have wanted.
"Every day is sort of emotional," Mary Tillman said. "It just keeps slapping me in the face. To find that he was killed in this debacle—everything that could have gone wrong did—it's so much harder to take. We should not have been subjected to all of this. This lie was to cover their image. I think there's a lot more yet that we don't even know, or they wouldn't still be covering their tails.”

"Maybe lying's not a big deal anymore," Tillman’s father says at another point in the piece.

Newly-Released Evaluations Raise Questions About Owen Nomination

You know how President Bush and Bill Frist are telling America about how great a judge Priscilla Owen is? According to newly-released official evaluations from experts who actually worked with her - that's a lot of crap.

A few days ago the nonpartisan Houston Bar Association released its biannual evaluations of all the judges in the state of Texas. These are the lawyers who actually work with these judges. And what do you know - Owen received some of the worst ratings of any of the six justices in nearly all categories.

These ratings are based on poll data taken from lawyers which may initially lead to some skepticism regarding partisanship - but the majority of judges in the courts and the Texas Supreme Court in particular are conservatives. If there was just political bias, Owen wouldn't stick out - but she does. And that raises some of the most serious questions yet about whether she should be elevated to the federal bench.

You can see the full ratings at:

Of course, they claim that it's all for her 2006 Senate re-election campaign.

But the mansion, on a cul-de-sac near spacious Rock Creek Park, may as well be a starter home when lined up against the Washington palaces of Clinton's potential presidential foes.

Dem John Kerry beds over in Georgetown in a $5 million home, owned by the family of his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry.

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.), who made millions as a heart surgeon and through his family's stake in other health-care ventures, blows both Dems away. Frist's 24,000-square- foot compound — a short walk from the Clintons' place — is pegged by assessors at $7.4 million.

(looks to me as if he could buy the presidency with the money he made from the Columbia (CHC?) chain of hospitals which his father and brothers made...striping assets from hospitals they bought in the 1980's which were public hospitals and then leaving town....and no hospital operating. And they are the biggest violators of Medicare....big fraud big time....)

------

The great unraveling continues.....a little around the edges, until the whole cloth of b** lies is a pile of rags.

From Barbara Boxer

On Tuesday, Republican Senator Bill Frist, answering the call of the most extreme right-wing elements in America, is poised to pull the "nuclear trigger" on one the most fundamental principles of our cherished democracy: the filibuster, the right of the minority to make its voice heard on the floor of the United States Senate.

Frist's allies call it the nuclear trigger because they know there will be fallout in the Senate. We Democrats will not take it lying down. But the real fallout will be on the American people as they suffer generations of judges who will assail and outlaw their rights, attempting to weaken the federal government to such an extent that even Social Security and the minimum wage could be ruled unconstitutional, let alone environmental protections, civil rights, and human rights.

I am working overtime, night and day, to stop this power grab. So are my Democratic colleagues. And now, in the final hours before Senator Frist attempts to eliminate our right to filibuster -- violating the Senate's own rules and more than 200 years of precedent in the process -- we urgently need your help.

Call George Allen, Bill Frist, John McCain, and Chuck Hagel now -- 4 Republican Senators who are considering running for President in 2008 -- and tell them to uphold 200+ years of American values -- checks and balances and the right of the minority to be heard!

The Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the Presidency. And they won't rest until they get the Judiciary too.

Imagine -- they have gotten 208 of Bush's judges through the Senate, and Democrats have only stopped ten. That's a 95% success rate, but still they aren't satisfied!

Please take a moment to read the statement I recently delivered on the Senate floor regarding this "nuclear option" as well as a detailed analysis of the decisions and writings of one the key judicial nominees in all of this, Janice Rogers Brown. You can find it on my new PAC for a Change website at BarbaraBoxer.com.

Then, after reading my statement, please call Senators Allen, Frist, McCain, and Hagel and tell them to uphold 200+ years of American values. Anyone who supports the "nuclear option" does not deserve to be President, since they clearly don't understand our Constitutional system of checks and balances.

Finally, after you've made your phone calls, please forward this email to everyone you know, and invite your friends to contact these Senators as well. Make sure they understand what we are dealing with here and why the American people must get more involved in politics. I know it is popular in some places to slam the door on that idea, but you and I know we must not.

Thank you for caring and for sticking with me. Please contact these Senators today, before Tuesday's vote on the "nuclear option!"

Best Always,

They made a deal to avoid the nuclear option just as the two difficult transits passed the exact aspect: transiting Saturn quincunx natal Venus and transiting Pluto conjunct natal Venus, both in the Congress chart.

But I think the idea of what exactly "extraordinary circumstances" means will be a problem down the pike.

KRUGMAN ON DOWNING STREET MEMO: I've been not doing much on this open & shut development (i.e., everything I'vew ever written about Junta v& Iraq was right), but... in catching up on Krugman, figured an excerpt wouldn't hurt:
"There has been notably little U.S. coverage of the "Downing Street memo" - actually the minutes of a British prime minister's meeting on July 23, 2002, during which officials reported on talks with the Bush administration about Iraq. But the memo, which was leaked to The Times of London during the British election campaign, confirms what apologists for the war have always denied: the Bush administration cooked up a case for a war it wanted.

Here's a sample: "Military action was now seen as inevitable. Bush wanted to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and W.M.D. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy." (You can read the whole thing at www.downingstreetmemo.com.)

Why did the administration want to invade Iraq, when, as the memo noted, "the case was thin" and Saddam's "W.M.D. capability was less than that of Libya, North Korea, or Iran"? Iraq was perceived as a soft target; a quick victory there, its domestic political advantages aside, could serve as a demonstration of American military might, one that would shock and awe the world.

But the Iraq war has, instead, demonstrated the limits of American power, and emboldened our potential enemies. Why should Kim Jong Il fear us, when we can't even secure the road from Baghdad to the airport? At this point, the echoes of Vietnam are unmistakable. Reports from the recent offensive near the Syrian border sound just like those from a 1960's search-and-destroy mission, body count and all. Stories filed by reporters actually with the troops suggest that the insurgents, forewarned, mostly melted away, accepting battle only where and when they chose.

Meanwhile, America's strategic position is steadily deteriorating. Next year, reports Jane's Defense Industry, the United States will spend as much on defense as the rest of the world combined. Yet the Pentagon now admits that our military is having severe trouble attracting recruits, and would have difficulty dealing with potential foes - those that, unlike Saddam's Iraq, might pose a real threat.

In other words, the people who got us into Iraq have done exactly what they falsely accused Bill Clinton of doing: they have stripped America of its capacity to respond to real threats." http://www.pkarchive.org/column/051605.html

Mike and all,

Saturn will conjunct the 4th house cusp of the Oath of Office chart from January 20th on June 8. A chart done for anytime on election day 2004 will be having a Saturn return (in longitude or right ascension) on June 24 shortly after Bush has a Saturn return (in right ascension to natal Saturn on June 18 and just before precessed natal right ascension Saturn return on June 25). Something regarding the election might surface during this time.

He will still have a Saturn return to his secondary progressed Saturn coming up as well as Saturn transiting his natal ascendant both in Washington (relocated) and New Haven (birth).

Saturn will also be active in his acceptance of the nomination chart (Sep 2, 2004, 10:10 PM, EDT, New York, NY), conjoining progressed Saturn (today), Venus, progressed Venus, and the 4th house cusp.

The slimy Coleman tried to save face afterward by telling the press that Galloway wasn't "a credible witness." The hell he wasn't. It's Coleman and his subcommittee who lack credibility, not to mention ethics or a sense of justice.

Follow the example of a brave man. Don't let politicians or the media browbeat you, intimidate you or lie about you. Be honest. Tell the truth, and don't sugarcoat it. The world needs more Galloways and far fewer Colemans.

These are the last two paragraphs from the Charley Reese article on Galloway....(I had been quite suprised to see that the Brit papers I read had called him a blusterer - but then I see he is very contrary to the status quo at home, also).

But this reminded me that Paul Wellstone died in what I STILL think was a suspicious crash....and Coleman was his replacement. It is SO convenient....and there have been SO many of these convenient accidents....the list of plane crash victims must be 4 times greater for Dems....

I didn't get the exact time of the Senate comprimise but it was shortly after the Full Moon and I expect more of a fall out tomorrow when the Moon conjuncts Pluto, Venus opposes and they all square Neptune (very very much the victim) Mr. Dobson of the farrrrr, farrrr right is getting a jump start on the whining, showing their buddies how to do it I guess. McCain was right about one thing, "the American People think we are acting like spoiled children" indeed we do John, indeed we do. http://americablog.blogspot.com/2005/05/dobson-has-been-betrayedthe-other-side.html

Alabama congressman: HBO comedian's remark "borders on treason"
5/23/2005, 5:40 p.m. CT

By JEFFREY McMURRAY
The Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — An Alabama congressman says comedian Bill Maher's comment that the U.S. military has already recruited all the "low-lying fruit" is possibly treasonous and at least grounds to cancel the HBO show.

Republican Rep. Spencer Bachus takes issue with remarks on HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher," first aired May 13, in which Maher points out the Army missed its recruiting goal by 42 percent in April.

"More people joined the Michael Jackson fan club," Maher said in giving a comic twist to his commentary. "We've done picked all the low-lying Lynndie England fruit, and now we need warm bodies."

Posted by: judi gemini on May 24, 2005 04:13 AM

I don't thinkl this nuclear event is as important as one might think in the big picture.

I have always banked on the elevated Saturn in Libra in the USA chart to insure a sound judicial system in spite of the current games. Our progressed Mars is also turning retrograde in Libra, so it will be there for a long time. I believe it will turn out all right. Jupiter will be pssing over that Saturn shortly. Whatever temporary horrors occur, justice should prevail. In many ways.

Posted by: jm on May 24, 2005 04:23 AM

I also thought that the end to the judicial filibuster could never happen. It's just a hook for the incredible power struggles that these politicians so dearly love. We are spectators in this age old sport. You never know. Fate can always intervene. A plague could sweep through the courts and retire the radical element prematurely. Life is full of surprises.

Now that Pluto is separating from Congress chart Venus, it is starting to move in on Congress chart Mercury through June. So the energy that is now diffusing will start to build again very soon. But I am especially interested to see what happens from June 7 - June 15. In the Congress natal chart the Moon is square Saturn with a two degree orb. During this one week in June, transiting Saturn will move to the exact square. So Congress will feel very burdened and depressed. Things will really weigh on them and feel painfully stuck. Interestingly, Saturn will also be moving back to Bush's Saturn at the same time. That one peaks on the 18th. And the Saturn transit to the Inaugural IC peaks on the 10th. So this next period, through June 18, should bring some very difficult time for Bush and his minions. Maybe the rightwing fascists will go into a frenzy because there was a compromise. Should be interesting.

Posted by: Nancy on May 24, 2005 04:36 AM

This is an early battle. The fall will be very intense too. Pluto comes back across Venus and Mercury. And the natal Mars Uranus square will become exact with an extended Uranus transit. Even the long Mars station plays in on this, agitating people even further. The best part is that Saturn will be on Bush's Ascendant, Mercury and Pluto, so I doubt things will go as he wishes, which makes it hopeful for us.

How come it’s always big corporations or the owners of gas-guzzling SUVs -- or impotent rapists -- who seem to catch a break?

Judy Gem, a fellow wrote to Josh Marshall several days ago and made a very interesting argument in terms of Judge Owen. His entire argument is at talkingpointsmemo.com May 20, 1:59 pm. I do urge you to read it. Although not very long, I didn't want to use too much band-width, so just copied the following paragraph which is the richest part of the fellow's argument. Very interesting.

"Here is my compromise, as much as it pains me: Let Owens go through. It will not make the 5th appreciably worse; the only more retrograde Circuit is the 4th. I know it will further imbalance the 5th and violate the dictum laid down by Sen. Schumer. The way I see it is that the 5th is a lost cause or sacrifice area already and for the foreseeable future. But, the DC Circuit to which Judge Brown has been nominated is both more important and more closely divided. Brown is so far out of the mainstream she almost makes Owens look moderate. Brown must be stopped. As must Myers. We need to preserve the independence of other Circuits such as the 9th and reluctantly let the 5th and 4th go even further, if such is possible, to the dark side. We have to depend on the fact that conflicts between circuits are often taken up by the Supreme Court."

This Congress (ALL OF THEM) have and are doing so much damage to themselves and they just continue to shoot themselves in the foot, in fact they have so many bullets left in their guns they may consider expanding the meaning of "weapons." And the real fun hasn't even started for them, these folks are just warming up.

Saturn is soon to hit their 1st and only Saturn Return, just as Bob said. It then goes on to oppose Chiron in the 10th, square the Moon and NN in the 1st and 7th. Pluto is lolling back over the 109th Venus (it was exact today, thus the intensity and drama leading up to this day) it will traverse back over the Natal Pluto and Mercury. If they are still standing by the end of the fall, they have Uranus squaring their Mars at 6 Sag. to look forward to.

Venus keeps progressing and has just moved to 24 Sag. Pluto keeps chasing Venus through most of the next 3 years. Lots of intensity and infighting, with the leadership (the Sun 14 degrees Capricorn) square the US Saturn and oppose the Sun, are at odds with the people.

The Judicial system is ruled by the 9th House and is therefore under the auspices of Jupiter, Jupiter conj. Venus in the US Chart, and is transiting toward a conj to the US Saturn, by progression Jupiter is retrograde at 15 Cancer and it will be years before it goes back to conj. the US Sun and square the US Saturn, more than 20 years. When Pluto opposes the US Venus/Jupiter Conj. in Cancer there is a possibility of an upheaval in the judicial system. It's the Sun/Saturn square in the US chart that makes the "daddy" hold on America so strong. We give our power away to our leaders, thinking them better and more knowledgeable than we. That hold will be further weakened when, as it was weakened in the late 70's but we slipped back into it with the Reagan years and lost an opportunity. When transiting Pluto was conj. the US Saturn and square the Sun, the president (Jimmy Carter) lost his power with the hostage crisis.

Back to the original point, I said in one of my articles in January that this Congress doesn't understand the anger and disgust the people have with them and they are about to find out. Transiting Neptune is squaring their Natal Neptune (the Nov. 11, 1800 chart in Washington, DC, marking the first sitting in Washington) they are living in la la land up there right now. Oh there is more, much more, we just have to await the spring and summer as it unfolds. We also should start questioning our love of their dramas.

Lori,

I love you humor!!! And by the way, I could use one (LOL). I hope this post isn't to vulgar for some. I just think monogomy depends on the person. I was monogomous for many years and very happy, but I guess I go through stages.

I work at a very female dominated profession and though I really appreciate and love women, I get tired of the "all men are pigs" dictum. I just don't like to talk that way. Why? It just splits people apart. I really prefer to lift people up. Of course, I don't succeed everyday, but I do try.

Anyway, I just saw Frist's speech about the filibuster. Not to happy at all. I think finally the GOP are begining to understand that they can't get everything they want. Is this Bush's SAturn return? What do you think?

Posted by: Travieso on May 24, 2005 05:26 AM

Sally, your mention of our Daddy Saturn problem makes me think this a prelude to the Pluto through Capricorn where the whole Saturn authority issue will be faced. Talk about power struggles! Our Cancer Sun squaring our Saturn all being visited by Pluto. Something's got to give. Or everything. If the Cancer Sun continues to need a Daddy, it better pick a good one.

The conservative blogs are aghast. They see this as a major defeat. They are more angry at the Republican Senators right now than they ever were at the Liberals.

Travieso, I do believe it's the start if Bush's Saturn troubles, and Sally and Nancy have mentioned many times how many cardinal points all over the place are going to get hit.

I feel like we have all prepared well here.

Nancy....oh, thanks for the Wolcott article on Friedman....what a self important twit Friedman is....what a great line: Adams is fortunate to be living in England (at least I assume he does), where one is spared the sight of talkshow hosts lapping up Friedman's flat-world theory as if it were the greatest breakthrough in thought since Einstein last held a piece of chalk.

Posted by: jm on May 24, 2005 05:56 AM

Pluto is a pattern within patterns (so is Uranus and Neptune)It moves so slowly and breaks up existing ruts. In the mid 20's Pluto was conj. the US Sun and square US Saturn and the repressive pattern was broken. Women threw off their corsets, cut their hair, and lived it up while the stock market went wild. There was a brief sojourn back with Hoover, but not all the way back. There was the depression and FDR came in with sweeping changes to the "system" breaking up the Robber Baron's hold on the money, bringing in far reaching reforms. In the late 70's Pluto was conj. the US Saturn and square the US Sun, and we started the trip back toward repression. Within two years Reagan was in office and the dismantling of social programs continued through Reagan, Bush I and yes Bill Clinton, and then came W. Now Pluto will soon oppose and square the pattern of reform beginning in the 20's. With the opposition to the US Sun, it could give back the power gained to the people when it was in Cancer, and use the square to Saturn to break up the repressive pattern begun in it's Libra transit. Time will tell.

Posted by: Sally on May 24, 2005 06:04 AM

Add to that... I think the American public has finally come to the full realization that the United States has failed in Iraq.

And that George Bush has failed in his mission to end tyranny on the entire planet.

Posted by: jm on May 24, 2005 06:06 AM

Thanks for that breakdown, Sally. Very, very good. That clarifies a lot. I belive it very well might give power to the people as Pluto goes into Aquarius and we are faced with how to use it.

This was told by one of the guys whose job it was to retrieve the plane after the "crash."

This was one of those "flash" instances. When I heard it, my initial reaction was, "They killed him!" Sounds like your reaction was similar?

Wellstone had considered running for President in 2000 and was considering running for President in 2004. That's a very profound remark JM "pluto in Aquarius might give power to the people" because that is what happened the last time Pluto was in Aquarius. The 1776 chart was actually a declaration of war, we were not a nation until the war was over in 1789 when the Treaty of Paris signed and Pluto was in Aquarius.

The filibuster thing tonight, the comprimise is a good thing to bring balance back and it could easily be the tipping point. The mystic of the winning GOP has been broken and will have the effect of an awakening, a mistrust, particularly with the far right wing (they are going nuts over this tonight) and some on the far left are angry but not all. This was a win for that great middle majority, enough of a win that they might start sitting up and paying a little more attention and the Senate has started, just a little, but started to take their power back. Not the power of the party but their individual right to think.

I know people won't agree with me, but it's about shifting energies, not who won or lost and what that will cost. Astrology is about energies and how they move and how individuals respond or might respond no matter the circumstance. The energies have just shifted. Frankly I think it was the Terry Shiavo case where things started shifting, then the huge SS mistake, Gannon, Newsweek (on the heels of Dan Rather) Galloway/Coleman with Coleman being delivered a knock out punch, now this. All of it has been weakening the energy around this administration. It would have weakened much sooner if not for 9/11. I feel an undeniable positive excitement in the air. This full Moon in Sagittarius has been a good one. Of course it doesn't hurt that I have a Moon/Jupiter conjunction in Sag.

I,too, felt the Shiavo incident was the point of no return and that our justice system would survive.

But most of all, I felt the biggest turning point to be the tsunami. That's when I felt renewed faith in the universe and its orchestration.

The Frist Filibuster Drinking Game
I was watching Dr. Frist's speech on the Senate floor regarding the compromise over judicial filibusters and had decided to create my own drinking game based around his usage of the term "up or down vote." I am currently in the emergency room of St. Joseph's hospital in Burbank with alcohol poisoning. Please ask those on the Christian right to pray for me.

Roughly, Galloway's planets are in the following signs?
SUN MOON MERC VENUS MARS JUPITER SAT
SUN: 22LE36
MOON 12PI50
MERCURY: 16LE25
VENUS: 07LI33
MARS: 27SG39
JUPITER: 18CN32
SATURN: 03SC56
URANUS: 25 CANCER 10
NEPTUNE: 23 LI45
PLUTO: 24 LE37
N. NODE: 12 CP44

I guess we can see why he packs such a wallop (sun/merc/pluto in Leo trine n. Mars current transited by retrograding? Pluto). Also Uranus is transiting his moon (quiniqux his node), Sat. is transiting n Uranus, and t Jupiter is retrograding back to his Libra Venus, in a few months to be transiting n Neptune, then Sat.

I can't comment any more due to my limited knowledge, but he is an articulate man whose time has come. He's one mad triple Leo who is not going to take it anymore and who is standing up for the truth and the underdog! What a guy!!!! What a hero!!! This is really exciting. I wonder where Saturn transiting Leo will take him?

He fits right into the Delmar Duverus poem posted by wv. Maybe Saturn transiting Leo will bring more truth to light :-)

That's the sad & revoltin' way of the fundie imo, Teg. When I was working at a hospital psych unit some years ago, a 16 y/o girl was admitted when her bio-dad & family was finally being investigated for incest. She hadn't become pregnant for all those years by reason of... get this... heavy scar tissue. Yet she believed that if she wanted a baby, she wld pick out a picture she liked out of a newspaper or magazine, put the pic under her pillow, & viola!! baby in the morning (from the baby fairy, perhaps?!).

Interesting article, this is part of a book review (scathing I might add) about political ethics. Good work:

The crisis of liberalism

Liberalism emerged in the progressive phase of capitalism—when the bourgeoisie was still a rising class, propounding the great ideas of human emancipation against the old feudal order. These ideas were expressed in the declarations of universal rights such as the Declaration of Independence by the American revolutionaries and the Declaration of the Rights of Man by the French. But there was always a tension between the rights of man and the rights of property.

While ever economic life remained dominated by small property holders, this contradiction remained concealed. But with the growth of large scale American industry at the end of the nineteenth century, it began to rise to the surface.

At the time of the drafting of the constitution, in the early 1780s, Jefferson had expressed a fear that economic expansion and concentration would undermine the democratic basis of the United States. In the 1930s, following the great concentration of wealth that took place in the 1920s, Justice Brandeis of the US Supreme Court said, “we can either have a democracy in this country or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can’t have both.”

Teg, Joanna Oregon, it is apalling, isn't it? The ignorance about basic science....

This reminds me of a story from the 1970's in LA....the husband of a friend of mine (he committed suicide from the job, my friend always avowed) was the LA parol officer for a man who had created within his own family a total incest scene. And the amazing thing is, they all seemed perfectly content with it....and it wasn't until the younger daughter said something that seemed funny to a friend, who then told her mother, that Cal got called into the situation. The whole family had had sex with each other for years.

Gallons of stem cells....wow....and every two weeks....she must be not only really badly educated or someone is taking her for a big ride....

Hey AW,

I really would like to tell everyone who read my messeges, thank you so much for replying to my emails. This IS the only messegeboard I go on, and I really appreciate the freeflow I ideas and allowing me time. I am truly grateful.

Skylurker, I do believe that we will have a liberal revolution starting really after 2008 and the US's pluto return in Capricorn (I follow the US Sag rising chart, with nPluto in the second chart). WIth a nPluto trine nUranus this will express itself in equality and social justice issues, esp. economically. This will distroy (action of tPluto) the monolithic corporations and the US will be forced to redefine its economic ideals and tamper its runaway capitalism.

Especially with the the nPluto trined nNeptune on the midheaven, this could express itself in extreme emotionalism towards the global and national condition of the poor and dis advantaged (Neptune seeing itself as the martyr for others). Right now, we see this with the current whole sign nNeptune squared tPluto in Sag. The hard aspect brings out the less favorable aspect of Neptune as the misguided martyr or Don Quixote figure (chasing windmills). Esp. This is Bush and other conservative leaders seeing themselves as the saviors of some Christian piety.

When this aspect eases into a trine in Capricorn, Neptune(making a foreard motion to tPluto) will express itself in a true selflessness towards others. Also, since this is on the MC, the world population will start to see the US and a beacon for economic equality.

Of course, there will be a down-side as well. A Pluto return is always difficult and causes so much radical change that it can ( and will be ) painful. Pluto strips us of our egos and our ideals of ourselves and others. Usually, this is very hard for us. Likewise, it will be hard for the US.

Jm, funny that you should mention the Shiavo case because I was just saying the other day to a friend that the SChiavo case was a turning point towards the future demise of the Repubs.

What do you all think?

Posted by: Travieso on May 24, 2005 11:04 PM

Travieso,

I agree. I think the Pluto transit will bring a complete transformation of our economic infrastructure as we move away from that which was created as a result of the Industrial Revolution. Look what is happening to the airlines and GM. There is much more to come. Jobs that have shifted overseas are not returning. We are not producing enough, so new industries will have to arise. Growth is persistent and will come out of Pluto in Capricorn destruction of the current system. Small businesses will succeed.

An interesting development is the closure of some Home Depot stores at the same time that they are developing smaller ones that copy the model of the old hardware stores. I think this is a portent.

I also think our reputation will be restored. It's too deep in the global psyche. The economic opportunities we have provided to impoverished people historically will be remembered.

I think when Uranus goes into Aries there will be progress and innovation, not without struggle of course, with that square to Pluto. Also, as Sally mentioned yesterday, the Pluto will be transiting the USA Sun and Saturn. I think this is a big opportunity.

Maybe the Mars retro progression will turn our attention inward as we rework our aggressive behavior and our approach to defense and warfare. We have to rebuild our lost strength from within. I think survival instinct will dictate that. We now have 'leadership' that does not care for this country. If we want to survive, that will have to change.

So maybe a new and real patriotism will emerge with people like us at the helm.

I think many corporations will collapse under their weight and too fast growth, and there will be a lot of rebuilding to do.

Posted by: jm on May 24, 2005 11:28 PM

Also, the Pluto in Cap will be close to trining Uranus in Taurus later at the 20 year Jupiter/Saturen conjunction point. Maybe things will ease up then a bit.

Posted by: jm on May 25, 2005 12:31 AM

Saturn, rather.

Posted by: jm on May 25, 2005 12:33 AM

I see that too jm. Many corporations will die off, or, if they survive, they will be totally different in their mission. I think also that Pluto will destroy the pro-corporate stance of the US government. I think this is because people will be attracted to smaller entities, cottage industries, and smaller businesses. Maybe with the trine to nUranus, technology and new modes of communication will make smaller businesses easier to market - or something to that effect.

I have a little article about it on my own website - www.astroaustin.com

Posted by: Travieso on May 25, 2005 01:38 AM

travieso, here is a question....whose tension will be relieved? LOL....tension for one faction is joy for another....so I think you are saying that OUR tension will be relieved by these better aspects?

I am wondering.....perhaps being in integrity is what will make the aspects good....even when the aspects are bad? and if one (gop for instance, and the rez) is out of integrity, a good aspect might only temporaily ease things? I am curious to know if others on AW have thought about this.

"Another thought on something else I read re DeLay and Abramoff and the Indian gaming thing....I read that DeLay and Abramoff were college roomates and later worked together in a nonprofit until they were fired because of financial 'improprieties'....what is it about these crooks? holier than thou and crooked also....and it was also mentioned about that pastor in NC who kicked out the democrats. Turns out there were financial improprieties with him, also.

I met an interesting woman today who is the pastor of St. Elizabeth's Episcopal church in South San Francisco. We talked for about an hour ....she told me about her grandmother who was the first woman mayor west of the Mississippi, mayor of Eureka ....when she was elected, the FBI came to her and said she had to clean up Eureka's illegal whiskey stills and the prostitution, etc. or they would put the whole town in prison....( she said, today the cash crop is high grade mary jane....but this was the 20's I guess..) Well, of course, it was the mafia running all those industries then....and they had paid off all the council members and every police chief they had. Which tells you something about how our current GOP administration operates. Mafia rules. Later, she took on AP Giannini, founder of Bank of America in SF. His trust department never gave any of the money they collected in trust for families, instead he bought off politians and took the money for himself, which then threw all the trust recipients on the state welfare. She found that all the way up the line, all the important links had been bought off. She said the same thing about politics....that by the time a person gets to be president, they are bought and paid for, having sold their souls along the way in 'compromises'. What you get, she said, is a figurehead....and if the figurehead crosses the powers that put the person in their position....watch out. Now, I had known this intuitively if not for a fact (in my head, if not in my gut)....so this 68 year old ordained Episcopal minister confirmed it all....very powerful woman. (I think that is why I stated that it wouldn't matter if it was a man or woman running things....they are still dealing with the effects of power).

I just hope the powerful (Giannini did have to give back the money and start paying out to the rightful owners of the trusts, as public opinion went against him, and the grandmother quit politiics!) fall due to their own lack of integrity....and of that alone

Bodman Pushes Energy Dialogue

Bodman seemed to indicate he had sidestepped causing too much controversy by not hammering Russian officials over the breakup of Yukos and its campaign against its main shareholder, Khodorkovsky.

"Not that I remember," he said in answer to a question as to whether he had brought up Yukos directly. "I did raise issues of ... transparency and judicial independence. I think I did allude to the fact that was one of the reasons why there was some uncertainty."

Prior to his talks with Fradkov, Bodman met with Energy and Industry Minister Viktor Khristenko, Economic Development and Trade Minister German Gref and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

The onslaught against Yukos has cost U.S. portfolio investors an estimated $6 billion, and it sank a potential pioneering deal for a U.S. oil major to take a significant stake in the rapidly growing Russian oil major. It has led Russia to make energy overtures to India and China instead of to the United States, and it has firmly nixed any plans for the construction of private pipelines that would have helped speed up the shipment of crude exports to the United States.

In addition, it has raised questions about "the need for improvements in areas of transparency, the sanctity of contracts and ... judicial independence," Bodman said.

Seeking to reanimate the relationship, Bodman called for Russia to boost oil supplies to the United States and to make commitments on a future pipeline and liquefied natural gas projects.

Russian oil exports have risen from 30,000 to 230,000 barrels per day, Bodman said. "It should be 10 times that or more, given the reserves that are here," he said at a briefing in between his government meetings. "It's a matter of having an environment, getting investments made.

"It's in the interests of Russia to have greater exports, particularly at the prices we're talking about today. And it's in the interests of the United States to have more diverse supplies," he said. "It's a compelling case."

The pipeline and the LNG projects, however, are far from completion. The route for the northern pipeline that would go to the Arctic Coast for shipments to the United States is still undecided, and LNG projects are not likely to be up and running within the next seven years.

Travisio - A lovely website you have made!! That article on Pluto in Cap is very interesting.

Regarding Pluto in Capricorn, we should remember that Pluto tends to take things to their extreme before the transformation comes. Unfortunately, the US 2nd house Pluto has a lot to do with unquenchable greed. So it may be that the corporations will go too far, get too greedy and somehow implode. But it could be a long and painful process for the country with Pluto opposing Sun, Jupiter, Venus, and Mercury along the way. some of it may have to do with switching to a minimal oil economy which will be a major transformation.

Posted by: Nancy on May 25, 2005 03:15 AM

Nancy, I totally agree. I do believe the Pluto return will be one of the hardest transits in US history. I agree. I do believe that the corporations will become so monolithic, controlling, and deceptive (adj. of pluto) that people will rebel. Anyway, I think I may write a sequel to the article because so much more can be said.

Thanks everyone for the kuddos on the website. Appreciate it.

I remember he was studying for law school while with CJ&TF and I never could figure out how one could study law while touring all the time. Well, he did it somehow. He's very much liked and gathers together small groups of older kids on occasion and has everyone sing and pay their respects to those unfortunate folks who die paupers and have to rely on local government to arrange for their final "places of rest." Apparently, this little ceremony has awakened understanding and increased compassion among the kids who participate. Quite a guy!

I think the worse thing about this period we are in is that human beings are choosing yet again to dominate other humans. If I were an avenging angel sent to earth to determine if humans were fit to inhabit Gaia, I'd download the lot of us into the trash bucket.

Kindegartners play together better than adults do.

Of course, the beginning of this country (1630's and the 2nd and 3rd wave of Englishmen shipping over here) was all about corporations as well as religion. They came to make money (The Winthrop Fleet, of which my Wood ancestor was captain of one of the ships, came to make money)....they came to impose their own moralities and values(MA Bay Colony was a corporation run by the Boston Brahmin families, many of whom made their money in slave trade and rum running from the Barbadoes). The early colonies were models of tyranny also (put in the stocks for not paying a tithe unto the Puritans, practicing a different sect of religion from the Puritans, etc...it was pretty brutal at times)....until a bigger tyrant came along 150 years later ....crazy King George III. and it was his insane level of tyranny (hint, hint) that sparket the revolution....and they did go so far, this MA Bay Colony, as killing people who disagreed with them...the Quakers. Lots of them died, including my 13 gr. grandmother, which I have mentioned before. The Founding Fathers were quite aware of all of this, and managed to stave off a corporate style of governing....but they sure didn't think it would last long!

King George III of England married Queen Charlotte in 1761....his rule began the year before: how about this: George, son of Frederick Louis, Prince of Wales, and grandson of George II, was born in London in 1738 (June 4, 1738). George was not very intelligent and could not read until he was eleven. However, his tutors praised him for the amount of effort he was willing to put into solving his academic problems.

The whole point of this is, what about an "acension to the throne" chart on George III? will it show any similarities to GWB.? http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/PRgeorgeIII.htm
and
http://www.britannia.com/history/monarchs/mon55.html

The parallels are eerie....and Pluto was in 26 Sag. in May 1760....check out the political machinations of George....

Judi, the last time Pluto was at 26 Sag. "The Sons of Liberty" formed and were the ultimate push toward revolution in this country.
