CLIO’S MUSINGS as Murmered to JO

From time to time I like to put articles up that are astrological in nature, and written from an interesting point of view. I received this from "Jo, or Crone or CroneII" she goes by several names, and it was interesting and I wanted to share it with everyone. (I like Crone II myself)

This is Jo's article and let's give her a heart felt welcome as our Guest Writer.

Get your tin-foil out and enjoy Jo's Musings.

I was intrigued by a comment Barbara made on my post a thread or two back about the transits of the outer planets, through the Houses of our personal charts. I’ve observed the impact of transits on my own life and the lives of folks close to me, but I’ve never looked at the USA chart — until now. Months ago, one of you turned me on to Winterboy.com and the wonderful chronology he calls “Deja Vu: The Bush Bunch Rides Again” or “The Nixon Thugs are back, and worse than ever.” With a little help from Clio, the Greek Muse of History, I attempted to put the two together. A mere student of Astrology [just a tad past Jonathan’s term “newbie”], I find retrospection a much better tool for analysis than prediction, when I’m doing the analyzing! The time line has been shortened for obvious reasons, but feel free to click on Winterboy and read the fuller version for greater affirmation that the stars — Astrology, that is — clearly give light to these dark times in which we live.

In 1976 transiting Neptune (the “dissolver”) was the first of the outer planets to enter the USA First House, hitting the US ASC in January. According to our time line “Poppy” was in the news:

"1976 New Hampshire Senator McIntyre calls the Bush CIA nomination "an insensitive affront to the American people. It is clearly evident that this collapse of confidence in the CIA was brought on not only by the exposure of CIA misdeeds, but by the painful realization that some of those misdeeds were encouraged by political leaders leaders who sought not an intelligence advantage over a foreign adversary, but a political advantage over their domestic critics and the opposition party." Bush himself is suspected of having used connections within the CIA to attempt to stymie the Watergate investigations. McIntyre continues: "And who can look at the history of political subordination of the CIA and expect the people to give an agency director so clearly identified with politics their full faith and confidence? To me it is a transparent absurdity that given the sensitivity of the issue, President Ford could not find another nominee of equal ability and less suspect credentials than the former national chairman of the President’s political party."

George H. W. Bush is confirmed as the Director of the CIA.

In an internal CIA memo, dated January 21 and apparently referring to the coming investigations of US intelligence, Director George Bush states: "I think we all agree that, after Nixon, we keep the President out of this. We can only control leaks if we run the media show from the top down, and the President can be an obstacle to this process."

Construction of the new CIA compound begins in May. Vice President George H.W Bush is invited by the Agency to lay the cornerstone on November 1. The CIA will name their headquarters 'The George Bush Center For Intelligence.'

Because Congress has banned US military assistance to the Nicaraguan contra rebels, the Reagan Administration turns to covert procurement of arms. The White House is determined to secure surface to air missiles (SAMs) for the contras, and White House aide Oliver North settles on China as a cheap source for SA 7 missiles. Despite the ban, the US will share sensitive national security secrets with the Chinese in exchange for secret arms deals.

In testimony at his 1989 Iran contra trial, North will call the securing of these weapons a “very sensitive delivery.” For the Chinese missile deal in 1984, North says he received help from the CIA in arranging false end user certificates.

Neptune will continue in the 1st House until early 1990, during which time “Poppy” becomes the 41st President. During Neptune’s transit, Uranus hits the US ASC late January 1984. Uranus strikes like lightening. However, like the pine trees in the woods --- you don’t always see or know of the strike. Again from Winterboy’s time line [he calls it Chapter 13 and names the years 1980 1986 “Back in Black Ops”]:

1984: Jeb Bush lobbies the Department of Health & Human Services for contracts on behalf of Cuban American businessman Miguel Recarey Jr, whose medical firm later collapses. Recarey, who has ties to Cubano mobster Santos Trafficante, disappears with at least $12 million in federal funds.

Vice President George Bush takes part in morning meetings to plan increased ‘third country’ aid to the Contras. He keeps two sets of daily logs, one for potential future investigators and one for his personal record.

The CIA and the Medellin drug cartel help finance the campaign of Noriega’s candidate for Panamanian President, Nicolas Barletta. Barletta is declared the winner ten days after the election, while the US Ambassador hides information from the media that Barletta has actually been defeated by at least four thousand votes. Political opposition parties demonstrate for weeks against the egregious fraud, to no avail. Reagan welcomes Barletta to the Oval Office, and Secretary of State George Schultz attends his inauguration.

Donald Rumsfeld returns to Baghdad for meetings with the Iraqi foreign minister on March 24, the same day that the UN releases a report condemning Iraq for using mustard gas and the nerve agent tabun against Iranian troops. The US State Department also acknowledges Iraq’s actions, releasing a statement on 5 March saying that "available evidence indicates that Iraq has used lethal chemical weapons."

As if the 1st House were not already full, Saturn — the bridge to the outer planets — drops in December of 1986 and stays until March of 1989. Note that Claudia Dinkins and a few others refer to Saturn in Mundane Astrology as the oppressor, dictator (the “enforcer”?) — not the dispenser of ‘Karma’ as in personal astrology. The three planets bring immense energy to this area of the chart, as witnessed by Winterboy’s time line:

1986 thru 1989: Independent Kuwait seized by brutal, super rich al Sabah family; Colin Powell sends HAWK missiles to Iran, leaving US troops in Europe vulnerable; Pat Robertson uses charity to support his diamond, lumber interests; illegal Contra aid, drugs funneled through CIA airport in Mena, AR; DEA informant pilot Barry Seal killed hours before testifying; Averell Harriman dies, wife Pamela later funds Democrats against Bush; Ross Perot sent after POW's, complains of CIA gun/drug runner interference; Perot Bush feud; American cargo plane crashes, full of contra arms surviving CIA crewman repeats: "George Bush"; Bush sends family attorney to facilitate his release; Republican Special Counsel appointed for Iran Contra investigation; day before scheduled testimony, CIA Director Casey stricken during routine exam, left unable to communicate becomes Iran Contra scapegoat; Carlyle Investment Group formed; FCC scraps Fairness Doctrine; birth of right wing talk radio; Colin Powell lies under oath; bin Laden's brother Salem, business partner of George W and friend James Bath, dies in plane crash...

And the beat goes on, and on.

Transiting Uranus leaves the 1st house about 1991, having traveled through with Neptune for seven years. The two, with the assist from Saturn, have definitely moved the furniture around a bit, just before the 42nd President, Wm. J. Clinton, enters the Oval Office in 1993. Having finished their preliminary work in advance of Pluto, the transiting energy in the USA 1st House will be calm during the Clinton years, until transiting Pluto, the “transformer” — hits the US ASC for the first time on December 8, 2000, when the 5 Crows in Black (as Daniel Shorr named them) select the 43rd Resident of the Oval Office; and the second time — September 11, 2001. Pluto, whose energy rots to the core, allowing for rebirth, will finish the transformation of the 1st house around 2012/2013. We must await final review of the use and abuse of this powerful Plutonian energy by “Poppy’s” successor and his cohorts. Meanwhile, please feel free to check the time line at www.winterboy.com for more memories of the 1970s and 1980s, when the energies of Neptune, Uranus and Saturn were swirling and making way for Pluto’s arrival.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay, Jo! I am most pleased to see your excellent article. You get TWO gold stars!

I want to thank everyone for their inspiring and informative comments about my law school rejections. I truly appreciate the support I have received on this board. There are some days I can't imagine living without it.

When it came to law school, my parents were the ones really pushing for it. But now that all of the rejection letters have come in, I can see what was really going on. They've been pushing for me to go to law school for years. I always turned down the suggestion (for a variety of reasons). After November 2nd, I was crushed...maybe even traumatized...by the defeat of John Kerry and the candidate who I was working for during the election. They saw that I was morally defeated, and came in offering the perfect solution.

Their solution.

Not mine.

I hate to say this about my parents, but they can be quite manipulative in this way. They think they know best, and then interject their ideas at critical times in my life, rather than letting me figure things out for myself and set my own course.

Now that said, I think I convinced myself that law school was right for me, even if it maybe wasn't. After the LSATs, the applications, and the whole admissions process finished on January 4th, I thought I had found my life path. I waited for the answers from the eight schools to which I had applied. Days turned into weeks, and weeks soon turned into months.

Doubt set in, especially when I couldn't secure a law internship or any political job for that matter. I began to wonder if law was right for me, and if I was just just fooling myself in thinking I could pursue a career in politics.

As time passed, I think I began letting go of the moral and existential angst associated with the 2004 election. Politics are still important to me, but in my view of things, the essential course for this country has been set. What's happening in this country is happening for a reason, probably an altogether unpleasant one. I did what I could to prevent the Bush re-election, but it happened anyway. I still beleive in fighting the good fight, but not at an existential level.

Bush and company can blow up the planet, but they can't take away my dignity, my truth, my intelligence, my compassion, my creativity, and my desire for wholeness and unity on Earth. It's not in their power to take these things away.

On top of this, I began to realize that I've spent the better part of my life trying to prioritize my intelligence over my creativity, perhaps believing what my parents always told me--that I had a creative side but that it would never get me anywhere in life; that I should pursue the development of my intellect in my eventual career. Well I now think this is a load of crap. I've spent the better part of my life trying to make my creativity a slave-horse to my intelligence...and failing miserably at doing so. The catalogue of examples is lengthy and profound. Well, I'm ready to try to do things a different way...my way.

Step one will hopefully be getting this retail job (or continuing to improve at my current one). Step two (according to a good friend) involves giving the (hopefully) soon-to-be-elected chair of the Dallas Democratic Party a full-blown gay makeover, beginning with the elimination of his UNIBROW. Step three will involve earning enough money to move out of my parents' house. God I'm sick of living at home.

So...

To conclude...

Law school: not meant to be.

Politics: more of a hobby or an "extra-cuuricular," at least until I get my life figured out.

Creativity: all about it...kudos to Mr. Zegna and Paul Smith floral prints!!!

Intelligence: demoted to second-in-command, but important to have around.

My Own Apartment: need it badly.

Money: ditto x 10

Hot Steamy Sex: ditto x 500

Astrology and Tarot: always important, useful for impressing friends and smite-ing enemies

Astroworld: priceless.

Oh how I love the Muses!

Very interesting, Jo. When Saturn hits Mr. Bush's Pluto on his ascendant, I wonder if things will change. I do think we will see the end of this cycle by the time Pluto leaves the first house. I also wonder what difference it will make when Pluto goes into Capricorn in our first. Any ideas?
It seems connected. Saturn on his Pluto, Saturn in Capricorn. Saturn/Pluto opposition for 911, which I think was the height of their criminal activity. Maybe we can eliminate this rot and never see it again. Oh, I'm sure their will be other diseased factors chomping at the bit to get in, but I could use a little variety.

Dave, your capacity for self understanding is setting you up for a good life. That is exactly what a Moon/Saturn transit is supposed to do. Bring emotional maturity, and often movement away from dependence on the family and the past. To take a good look at what will stisfy your own emotional needs in life.

>Bush and company can blow up the planet, but they can't take away my dignity, my truth, my intelligence, my compassion, my creativity, and my desire for wholeness and unity on Earth. It's not in their power to take these things away.<

My sentiments exactly.

I've lived a creative life--wouldn't trade it for anything-- and part of it has been winging it, living on the edge with little normal security, and taking life as it comes...with the emphasis on staying free. I've had a lot of criticism about my lack of 'normal' productivity, but somehow it hasn't gotten me to change my Bohemian ways.
Sally has been talking a lot about an evolutionary switch occuring in mankind from left to right brain. That would indicate a growth in imagination and creativity. So it looks like you are right in the vanguard.
Congratulations.

Fascinating Jo!

Cycles of Life

Cloudy becomes clear as life's cycles
whirl me and transform me
and I am merged into the crystal sea
of perfected humanity;

In the midst of a dark night
I can see but one light . . .
not with my sight, but with my spirit;

It pulls me and causes me to yearn for the
brightness I once knew,
It calls to me and beckons me come;

It says remember, remember,
I have not forsaken you,
I simply call you to a
higher place,
a place where you can stay;

A place where you will doubt no more,
where your fears will be banished
forever and where the light you
once knew is dimmed by the
brightness of the fullness of my light.

Yes, cloudy becomes clear . . .
whirl me oh circumstance and
throw me into the fullness of thy
light that I might forever be one
with my creator;
One with all creation.

Jo, Go girl! You are a wonderful writer!

Dave, If you are younger than 28 (saturn return) you have time to experiment. After the SR I would start to try and figure things out for real.
Do not live by the code of parents, ever. Major rebel here and I turned out just fine. However Dave, 'acting' bohemian ain't ever gonna cut it. Too much time on one's hands breeds posers/uber-bloggers. I am just releasing my 25 published book and still must work my butt off constantly. Just be forewarned that freelancing means one works 10 times harder than a 9-5er. I live on a tight monthly budget that actually proves we do not need gobs of money to survive and there's usually a surplus at the end of each month. I am now ok for this whole year. Live simply, save some money and get a place of your own. Live a dharmic lifestyle and your life's path will fall into place and reveal itself to you.

The bird flies with two wings: Faith and Self-Effort. You seem to be a very hard worker so that skill feels very developed. In this lazy world of self -entitled babies who just expect everything to be done and handed to them on a silver platter, you are way ahead of the crowd. Bravo!
ps Just love makeovers.....can you makeover the clergy?

Great job Jo,!
What a way to start the day! I went to Winterboy.com to check the time lines ( missed it before). Who needs bacon eggs and grits?
It provides us all with a clear road map to the future. I will print this out and staple it to the USA chart!

And Dave is the first to consult it!
I intuited, exactly that situation with your parents, Dave. There is a creative renaissance a comin'. You could prepare, to be at the forefront!

May I recommend ( if you can find it)............ read,
"Seeing with the Minds Eye", by Dr. Mike Samueks, and his wife Nancy Samuels. First printing 1975. Third printing 1977. 45,000 copies all paperback 9 large size format )
Here's the Library of Congress Cataloging info.

There's another black mark against this gang! Does anyone else remember the book warehousing bill promoted and passed by Reagan's admin. in his first 100 days? It penalized publishers so they wouldn't overprint and stock all those "nasty librul books from the 70's!

I find I DO NEED grits afterall so off to the grocery store!
Good day all

Jo, this was exceptional. Given the outer planets are generational it seems the actions of given generations are complicit.

History repeats itself. How those planets affect us personally initiate our acts and/or responses. Were it so that we had used this collective energy (first house USA) to reach for greater egalitarian heights on several levels. Instructive is the web -- a new, innovative use of energy. It too was birthed during this time.

It's a damned shame we didn't apply this innovation to new use of inexpensive alternative energies, medical technologies and an acknowledgement of our shared sacredness.

karen

Posted by: farrout on May 2, 2005 01:55 PM

We have, Karen. Expanded our use of alternative energies.
Tonight I heard an interview with a farmer from North Dakota who talked about the huge surge in use of biodiesel fuels. And it is being helped by legislation in Washington. Big movement afoot to increase its use.

And I think the web is becoming a powerful political tool.

Posted by: jm on May 2, 2005 02:02 PM

You know, it just occurred to me. Glad you brought it up.
Maybe this mad oil compny grab that is going on now is a last ditch effort knowing that alternatives are nipping at their heels.

Great article Jo...you're the best.

No I haven't started my garden yet...we had frost
again this morning.

I know the joys of Neptune and Uranus, along with
Saturn return in my life...in the late 80's and
early 90's. Rupert Murdoch bought TV Guide and fired our department (Marketing) nationally. I left a 27 year partnership with the Northern California Chapter of the Television Academy (produced 18 Emmy Award shows). Sold my home in
San Francisco and moved to Healdsburg, CA where
I sold my favorite house overlooking the Russian
River, (federal tax regulations at the time). Bought a place I really didn't want. In 1992 I
started to look for someplace out of California
to live. Finally landed in West Virginia and never
looked back. My friends in CA still think I am mad
as a Hatter. Pluto has crossed into my 6th house
Sag/Capricorn and will return there on Dec 12 -
probably for the rest of my life where it will
meet my Saturn and Mars at 4 degrees Cap, Venus
at 6 degrees, Sun at 13'51" and then oppose my
nPluto at 18 Cancer in the 12th house. So it promises to be interesting times ahead in the last
years of this sojourn.

Sally, you were right at usual - Arnies popularity
in California is plummeting -

applause, applause & MORE applause for this Jo. You are a wonderful writer you Gemini you. I was aware of the events which have led us on this path in our history, but you clarified them in a very concise way, thank you.
Dave, you are SOOOOO ahead in the ballgame, pat yourself on the back several times. "To thine ownself be true" is a lesson some people never quite "get".

To everyone who offered me their kind words of love and support during my recent and on-going health crisis, thank you. I love you all. Sally and Jo helped me to change my perspective on how I was approaching this matter and I've decided to meet it head on instead of rolling over and allowing it to defeat me. Transformation can be accomplished in many different ways, and I've decided I want to stick around to experience what comes next on the roller coaster ride. Besides, my daughter doesn't want me screwing up her year in France, lol. I personally think we will see and are seeing indicators of the tide turning. My own favorite is watching Rush Limbaugh get his due. The s.o.b. has been a chief cause of major disinformation to way too many people and has poo-pooed the rape of our environment for far too long for justice not to be heaped upon his lying, cyst-infected butt.

Speaking of transformation, wv. To get such a sweep of Pluto through your planets so late in life is fascinating. To approach a Pluto transit with age, experience, and wisdom and astrological awareness is something to look forward to, I would think.

Posted by: jm on May 2, 2005 03:37 PM

Ohhhh, feel the love!!! My heart is so full. You folks are wonderful, so loving. Thank you. Shy, I am wearing my 2 gold stars proudly. Laurie — the poem is beautiful and fits the theme... cycles of life indeed. WV, your friends in California don’t get out much! Else they would know the beauty and earthiness of West Virginia... but if too many of them realize what they are missing, their rush to your tranquil state would spoil it. My friend you must speak to us more often as you have a wealth of wit and adventure stored away... share! And Dave — I wanted to dance a jig when I read your words. Many of us wish we had been as wise as you in your youth. Your words ring like a declaration of independence...just what we all need these days.

Please, Jm — you have such an intuitive insightful gift with Astrology... I gather the pieces after the fact, while you my friend see the energy before it comes. Speaking again in retrospect, when Pluto transited my 1st House it moved through Virgo and then into Libra. As I said a few threads back, it was a glorious time for me. There are a few planets and asteroids there, and much was moved about. But when Pluto hit my nMoon at 0 degrees Libra, my daughter was born. All the conflict I had experienced for thirty something years was transformed into nurturing. Dreams of career and life on the Potomac were swept away like so much fluff. As for the US chart and Pluto’s movement from Sag to Cap, while in the 1st House, you and some of the others on this board are far more gifted than I in anticipating that energy. As for * and his 1st House, I’ll have to consult Captain Sally on that one. Karen, it seems another lifetime, but I do recall that prior to Pluto hitting the US ASC, there was a collective feeling of “greater egalitarian heights” — then the feeling of being ‘flipped’ — hopefully, we can ‘flip’ again!

Peg — you go! Fight, if that is what you truly want! We’ll support you in whatever you decide. If you have unfinished business, go for it... feel the love here. Ohh, that the world were like our comfy corner in cyberspace! Thank you, all of you, for the love. And Cap'n Sally, thank you for your generous heart, for our space here and for making my week! Namaste

Posted by: Jo on May 2, 2005 03:43 PM

Psst... another note on transformation. Some time ago, this Virgo Rising would have had a hissy fit to see a misspelled word - next to her name! Not so, now. I wear it as a badge of growth. Besides, this southern ear has difficulty translating Greek, and Clio speaks so rapidly! :))

Posted by: Jo on May 2, 2005 04:03 PM

Jo, great article! This all has been going on and building up for a long time, eh? Really appreciate getting these details along with the astrology.

Good for you, Dave! I can't say it better than Peg has.

And Peg! I second Jo -- we're with you in whatever you decide.

GREAT reading to be had here! Thanks to everyone!

And now for something completely different:

Last night TV news and this morning's newspaper reported that yesterday (I believe it was yesterday), North Korea had tested a missile, sending it into the Japan...sea? straight? some body of water. (and just last week there was "this guy said NK is capable of sending nuclear missiles to hit the US;" then others from his dept: "oh, well, they can't actually DO it right now." -- unclear and very mixed message!)

I didn't catch the whole thing on TV last night, but today's newspaper article said that this missile test was first reported in Japanese news media. But the thing is, the only source sited in the whole article (which WASN'T huge) was the US, which soon will go before the UN and attempt to get everyone to agree on action against NK to get them to stop their reported nuclear developments. (don't recall/know what kind of action; not military, though.)

So....anyone seen any 3rd party verification of the missile test? I'm just a teensy bit hesitant to believe something that comes only from US Gov't and no one else. Is this an "Iraq has WMDs" ploy? Inquiring minds want to know...

Posted by: Lori on May 2, 2005 05:57 PM

Speaking of "Iraq has WMDs" ploys:

Will Colombia Be the Proxy in a US Attack on Venezuela?

The U.S. is gearing up its rhetoric against Venezuela again as Condaleeza Rice barnstorms through Latin America -- and there are subtle indications that the U.S. may be ready to increase Colombia's role in undermining the government of Hugo Chavez.

About Law School; Dave:

My nephew and his wife both had close to 4. averages and both applied to lawschool. he got accepted by 1 school
and rejected by all the rest, she was
rejected by all. This year they are graduating, and she is in an MBA program, as happy as she can be.

I can't imagine having parents who would choose a career for you; but I confess, we have pushed our sons too, but to succeed in what they want! perhaps your parents think you want to be a lawyer? set them straight if you don't.
Good luck in retail sales.
That's a skill too.

Bravo, Jo! I'm so proud of you and really enjoyed the clear way you pieced this article together. Very, very interesting information, and well said, with the pauses and spaces in the right places so that important elements stood out.

I will check out the winterboy.com thing.

Dave, good for you. Be authentic and follow your inner voice as you move towards your calling(s). No matter what you choose, you will have to work hard at it - life is like that - so you might as well love it and/or enjoy it. Also, have you ever heard the saying, it's not where you are, it's who you're with? Well, maybe it's not what you do, it's who you do it with (or something like that). I know for myself that I neve found the "perfect" career but I'm happy when I'm busy, helping people, in congenial company, and making money!!!!! Keep the money part in mind; it does help, so create a plan if you can and when you can.

Peg, I think you're beautiful and I am rooting for you 100% Please stay active on this board -- we want and need to stay connected to you. It's just very important and we are getting more out of experiencing your spirit and courage than you can imagine.

My neighbor is in the import/export business and has a lot of Latin American connections. He told me yesterday that Venezuela is the next target - it's the only one that's easy!!!!

If the U.S. attacks Venezuela, they won't get away with it so easily this time. I am just itching for another revolution - but a non-violent one won by brains and spirit, not brawn.

JM, I'm getting ready for a Saturn transit of my moon/Pluto opp. Mercury. Your words were VERY reassuring. As i remember, the last time it happened, it wasn't too bad. I was very close to my mom at the time.

Lastly, I wanted to mention to Jo that vis a vi your clever title, New Orleans has consecutive streets named after the muses. I forget how many of them there are but they have names like Clio, Terpsechord, and so on. Can't help but make you smile. This is a cool city.

Posted by: Sharon on May 2, 2005 08:39 PM

OXY OD ALERT!!! OMG. Too funny. Please forgive me if I seem one-note, these days, but. It's such a HUGE issue, and has as much to do with the state of the world as any and everything else [perhaps more].

Listening to Dr. Phil as we paint the cats' room. Think the first few minutes were about something else...women in the sex industry? Wait for the next segment. A young girl who's had sex with her boyfriend, and is now TOTally under the influence of oxy. As usual, the word is never heard.

To me, her boyfriend is just a typical boy [completely under the influence of testosterone]. If one steps back from "judgement" of either, and simply observes the dynamics as the tale unfolds, 'tis Shakespearean in its hormonal revelations.

Highly recommended for anyone interested in this phenomenon, and who hasn't missed the opportunity, time-zonewise...

This is what the World Bank and IMF do ...

-----

GROUND ZER0-ZER0-ZER0
Greg Palast reports from Center of the World, Ecuador
Sunday, May 1, 2005

The equator is far more tacky than I imagined.

I'd taken time out from the state of siege in the capitol to take the twins on a quick holiday further up the Andes (or down, I don't know which).

Anyway, the Ciudad Centro del Mundo -- City at the Center of the World -- had loudspeakers on poles scratching out some Inca-cum-New Age Muzak.

It cost a dollar and a half US to stand on the planet's belly button -- that's a buck fifty in the local currency, too -- Ecuador's been "dollarized," which is why everyone is flat broke and in a bad mood and why Quechua women in bowler hats were screaming into the cameras, "TODO FUERA! TODO FUERA !" -- Everybody out! -- in front of the Presidential Palace.

They didn't like their president last week -- the ladies in the bowler hats (about a hundred thousand of them) chased him to Brazil -- and they don't like the new one either. Or ANYONE. They want EVERYONE out. No more US dollarized governments that promise them water pipes and electricity and vaccinations for the kids.

*********
Watch video of Palast outside the Presidential Palace in Quito at: http://www.gregpalast.com/images/ecuador/ecuador1.mov
*********

They had no water, except what they could carry in jugs up the hill, and thirty dollar electric bills, when the few with jobs make $153 a month, and no shots for the kids -- and they were all in a bad mood about it.

I wanted to tell them they are rich -- this nation, once a member of OPEC -- sits on 2 billion barrels of oil and probably a lot more. However, according to the World Bank documents in my briefcase marked, "FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY," Ecuador is required to pay 70% of its new oil money to foreign bondholders.

Who ARE these guys who hold the mortgage on this once-upon-a-time Inca Empire? Inside the presidential palace, where we could barely hear the ladies telling him to get the hell out, the President told me, quietly, after the cameras were off, "We don't KNOW who they are (these guys who own the country) and THAT'S TERRIBLE."

**********
Watch part of the exclusive interview Palast obtained with the new President of Ecuador, Alfredo Palacio at:
http://www.gregpalast.com/images/ecuador/ecuador2.mov
**********

What's terrible is that everyone DOES know who they are -- it's understood, a UN official told me, the bonds are held by the old oligarchs who stripped the nation's banks of their cash and re-planted themselves and Ecuador's cash in Miami; and now they hold the nation ransom by manipulating its debt securities. And of course, there's the millions Ecuador has to pay a US power company (a payment which was imposed by the USA only after the company hired Henry Kissinger).

Anyway, the indigenous women in pastel shawls and dark trilbies wanted NO ONE as president, not 'Sucio Lucio' (Dirty Lucio Gutierrez) who fled last week nor the nice Dr. Palacio, cardiologist and now accidental president. In office two days and he's already in hot water with George Bush for saying some of Ecuador's own oil money maybe should go for vaccinations before the Miami gang gets paid.

But the ladies don't want the good doctor, either. "TODOS FUERA!"

"You want NO president at all?" I asked in my atrocious Spanish.

"PODER POPULAR! PODER POULAR!" POWER TO THE PEOPLE.

OK, I said, looking at The People milling around the city square, some looking frighteningly earnest, some drunk, all angry except for the blasé soldiers rolling their eyes and shifting their automatic weapons.

I had the confidential World Bank docs under my arm to show them, but unlike Americans, these Indians and tattered Mestizos already know all about the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund and "restructuring" and "hard currency reserves" and the dreaded "austerity" which means no water, high electric bills and no shots for the kids.

Anyway, to The People, No One would be better than Someone because Someone, always "un rico," (a rich guy) sold them out.

The UN man told me, "They're $5 million short for vaccines -- yet Ecuador spent $5 million on sponsoring the Miss Universe contest."

But I didn't share this North American's puritanical pragmatism. If your nation and your bank account are dropping quickly to zero, a little T & A encased in a bit of glitter can't be such a bad idea -- Ecuador's idea of "one for the road", an awkward economic quickie before entering the austerity nunnery.

At the equator, there was a tombstone-like hunk of stone reading, "Latitude 0' 0" 0'"." Ground zero zero zero. The Big Nothing.

Ignoring the happy music, the unhappy children of the Great Inca squatted next to boxes of gum for sale and huddled their babies against the gray drizzle.

I found a bathroom and forgot to check if, indeed, the water swirled down the hole the wrong way.

The twins didn't want to get out of the car and whined like ungrateful idiot banshees. But the hell if I was going to fly them halfway down the globe without taking the obligatory photo of the kids straddling the Northern and Southern Hemispheres -- marked conveniently for gringo tourists by a pathetic yellow line in the sidewalk.

But the twins shrieked horribly and neither my completely unbelievable threats nor promises of huge bribes (ice cream) could budge them.

They wanted to stay in the car and listen to the tape of Harry Potter in his magical world.

And I couldn't agree with them more.

Belgian doctors bill U.S. for treating Iraqi girl
Source: Reuters

BRUSSELS, April 28 (Reuters) - Belgian doctors sent an Iraqi girl home on Thursday after treating her for leg wounds caused by a bomb during the U.S. invasion -- and sent the 51,570 euro ($66,650) bill to the U.S. embassy.

"We haven't heard from them yet," said Bert De Belder.

Jo, if I could borrow some of your Virgo that would be great. My typos are excessive. Starting today I am going to make a more concentrated effort.
But one good thing is that they have helped me overcome some of my shyness and embarrassment. Now I'll deal with my zeal and impatience.

We get so many Saturn transits in a lifetime, to be afraid is a setup for constant discomfort. I think after this Saturn sweep of this administration we might come to think of this mighty judge as an ally.

I'm not generally afraid of the transits, although I am aware of the hardships that can occur. I don't take these personally as something designed to go against me. I think whatever entities are behind these forces are our teachers, and it is to their benefit for us to do well and be good students. That means 'gold stars' for them since they have done their job well. So they want us to succeed. With saturn, especially, we get so many chances to learn how the game goes.
Maybe when Pluto goes into Capricorn in our first, this out of control recklessness will cease and this country will get a grip on itself.

Anyhoo, the astrologers were right. So many predicted the Iraqi situation deteriorating and so it is. With the latest news out of England about the preconceived plan, and the 54% of the population that believes Bush lied, this might be a huge factor in the '06 elections.

Those voting machines must disappear first. ;O) Nothing changes if nothing changes in that dept.

Posted by: JoannaOregon on May 3, 2005 12:50 AM

Well, the voting machines have been around for a while, and they can be fixed in either direction. I think they have been. If the Republican party keeps going in this freefall it will be much harder to pull this off. And many more eyes will be upon them.

WV, thank you for the article from xinhuanet.com; I appreciate it! See...it's all "the US said this" and "the US said that." What, no one else in the entire world is watching North Korea, even though several countries have been in talks with them? (Due to the talks, I realize there might be a danger here; on the other hand, I've never understood why it's ok for the US to have nukes and no one else. Especially since the US is the ONLY country to have ever used them! And then there's Iran's take: "We need them; Bush is threatening to attack us."

So thanks again, WV. Much appreciated and I'm still feeling skeptical. :)

Lori,
Here's a piece about the NK missile test in the Toranto Globe & Mail.
I get it in my hotmail so can't post the link.......Seoul — The South Korean government Monday played down the significance of a North Korean missile test the day before, saying it involved a short-range missile without nuclear capabilities and warning against linking the issue to a dispute over the North's atomic ambitions.
North Korea apparently test fired a missile into the Sea of Japan on Sunday, raising new fears about Pyongyang's nuclear intentions just days after a U.S. intelligence official said the secretive state could arm a missile with a nuclear warhead.
“The missile that North Korea recently fired is a short-range missile and is far from the one that can carry a nuclear weapon,” deputy foreign minister Song Min-soon told South Korea's Yonhap news agency. “This isn't a case to be linked to the nuclear dispute.”
Concerning reports that Washington warned allies that Pyongyang might be ready to carry out an underground nuclear test as early as June, Mr. Song said South Korea had not received such a warning. Mr. Song is South Korea's top envoy to the nuclear dispute.
Six-country talks — involving the United States, the two Koreas, Russia, China and Japan — aimed at persuading North Korea to give up its nuclear ambitions have been stalled since June.
South Korean officials have said they have not detected any signs that Pyongyang is preparing for a nuclear test.
News of the launch first appeared in Japanese media, which cited U.S. military officials as having informed the Japanese and South Korean governments of Sunday's test, which took the missile 105 kilometres off the North Korean coast.
Later, White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card said there was an apparent test.
“It appears that there was a test of a short-range missile by the North Koreans and it landed in the Sea of Japan. We're not surprised by this,” Mr. Card said on CNN's Late Edition. “The North Koreans have tested their missiles before. They've had some failures.”
In Japan, a Defence Agency official said on condition of anonymity Monday that Tokyo believes the missile only flew an extremely short distance and would not pose an immediate threat to Japan's national security.
The missile is believed to be a Russian-made SS21 with a range of 120 kilometres, or an upgraded version of the Silkworm, which has a 100-kilometre range, Japan's national Asahi newspaper said.
I'm fairly sure it was in the BBC news this am as well.

Hi All!
Nice job, Jo! I enjoyed!

This is not exactly astrology--but it is a keyhole view of the future that I peeked at this am.

I heard criticism from the Americans of Canada-local radio
This criticism had to do with the fact that Canada was allowing the importation of "knock-off's" from China and the East. I have no idea whether this is a legitimate complaint or whether the Americans are innocent of doing this also.

Now I understand that China does not honor "patent laws".
I have noticed that music downloading has destabilized the copyright laws protecting muscians. I am noticing that the same thing is happening to the film industry. Major changes here. The future appears much different than what we are familiar with.
I feel for the artists who, during this transition, get caught in the vortex.
My impression of the music/theatre is that it has been a manipulated field, with the majority of average artist living in poverty while a few at the top get "bloated/ out of balance" rewards. I believe when things stabilize, there will begin a system of fair exchange of energy/money. ..a reciprocal exchange of fair energy.

I am beginning to think that the same meltdown is beginning to happen to average merchandise/products and all those protected rights that allow only a few to profit are due to be dismantled.

Isn't it interesting that Wal-mart and their ilk, in search of a buck, opened the door to the Orient, who through not honoring "patent laws" will proceed to open the door to products, drugs, etc, for the cost of the production.
What a changed world that would be. No patent on genetically modified food/animals. The Phamaceuticals will go insane. Perhaps, they will start taking their own drugs.
All that suppressed technology may fly out and we'll be able put it to use in rebuilding a sustainable world. Free Energy here we come!!!
Am I right in the realization, that "patent laws" are part of the problem as to why we have been kept in a hammer lock?
Hey, China--thanks for helping us to re-think our world

There is a secret clause in the Trident treaty that was signed by Mrs Thatcher in 1983. It states that the British Prime Minister must go to war if he/she gets the order from the US president. Which explains much of what Tony Blair has done recently

I was raised in a Christian church, and we believe in no such ideas about an "Anti-Christ" who is somehow destined to take over the world. In my opinion, anyone who is diametrically opposite to the giving, compassionate, spiritual and sacrificial nature of Jesus Christ could actually be called AN "anti-Christ" or "anti-Christian" and there have actually already been quite a few of these individuals who have walked the Earth throughout our history. Consider Adolf Hitler, as a more obvious, overtly malignant, high-profile example. Or the ever more murderous Joseph Stalin. But in a more recent, more covert form, the elder George Bush serves as another "anti-Christ".

As I said, the "Anti-Christ" isn't just one person, but could potentially be many people already here among us. And he or she doesn't have to be a dictator or a cunning, elitist politician, either. It could be you or your neighbor, if either of you choose, for whatever reason, to approach the world with the intent of chaos and destruction running reckless and rampant from within your heart and soul, if not your conscious mind. This is totally opposite of Jesus and his teachings, regardless as to whether or not you hold him or them with any value or meaning.

Whoops. Guess I just undermined the premise of the whole "Left Behind" book series. Now if only the fundies trying to roll back Roe v. Wade from my state of Ohio would come around to reality. I heard that from a reliable source today. They intend on taking it up to the Supreme Court somehow through an endless string of appeals. Somehow, their case, if they win it, would prevent a woman in Ohio from getting an abortion in Ohio -- or any other state.

Gee, I just can't wait until the march of the "American Christian Taliban" ends. Hopefully before they totally ruin my state:

Thanks, Jo. Very interesting article and hope you do many others.

Judi Gemini, then Gov. Clinton (and the State of Arkansas) had nothing to do with the drug flights to Mena--but the (Bush Sr.) CIA apparently did. As I understand it this was another example of rad-right projection--accusing a political opponent of what they did themselves.

jm, re Saturn transits, I agree with you. (Of course, as Evangeline Adams said, "Saturn never hurts an Aquarian too much.") But I've seen a couple of charts of people with No Squares or other hard aspects in their charts plus a relatively weak Saturn and these people had no "character muscles" --there surely is a better phrase but I can't think of one at present. They were like people who had always lived in low gravity. We all need some resistance to build strength.

JoannaOregon, I totally agree about the voting machines. Absolutely got to fix that first.

Trudy, interesting ideas and fun to think of --reminds me of the web sites that carry the line: "Steal what you want." But I do think some patent laws (not the bloated versions we have now) are a good idea. There is always the little guy who comes up with an innovation, and if he has no protection then the big corporations will put it out first and cheaper (sweatshop labor) and the inventor will get nothing.

From 'Gook' to 'Raghead'
By BOB HERBERT

"...Mr. Delgado's background is unusual. He is an American citizen, but because his father was in the diplomatic corps, he grew up overseas. He spent eight years in Egypt, speaks Arabic and knows a great deal about the various cultures of the Middle East. He wasn't happy when, even before his unit left the states, a top officer made wisecracks about the soldiers heading off to Iraq to kill some ragheads and burn some turbans.

"He laughed," Mr. Delgado said, "and everybody in the unit laughed with him."

The officer's comment was a harbinger of the gratuitous violence that, according to Mr. Delgado, is routinely inflicted by American soldiers on ordinary Iraqis. He said: "Guys in my unit, particularly the younger guys, would drive by in their Humvee and shatter bottles over the heads of Iraqi civilians passing by. They'd keep a bunch of empty Coke bottles in the Humvee to break over people's heads."

* These are Blair's last days - Iraq is our greatest foreign policy calamity in modern history and the reckoning has only just begun

George Galloway - Tuesday May 3, 2005

When I first called the p.m. a liar on air over his repeatedly denied plans to invade Iraq - in the wake of the TX mtg with g bush in spring 2002 - the BBC presenter was aghast at my presumption. Today there can scarcely be a sentient being in the land who wld disagree. If Tony blair had been told a couple of mos ago that 3 dys before polling day the 87th British soldier wld be killed in Iraq (not that blair cared to remember the number) & the 1st 7 items on the Today programme wld be about Iraq, he might well have called off the election. As if in a Shakespearean tragedy, a powerful leader with a fatal flaw is diminishing before our eyes - his prime ministerial title, as with Macbeth, "hangs loose about him like a giant's robes upon a dwarfish thief". Whatever the result on Thur, these are the last days of blair. ... http://politics.guardian.co.uk/election/comment/0,15803,1475240,00.html ;O)

check out the link "rottweiler on a leash" which discusses the economic reasons of why Iran is next

------

Planned US-Israeli Attack on Iran

by Michel Chossudovsky

1 May 2005

At the outset of Bush's second term, Vice President Dick Cheney dropped a bombshell. He hinted, in no uncertain terms, that Iran was "right at the top of the list" of the rogue enemies of America, and that Israel would, so to speak, "be doing the bombing for us", without US military involvement and without us putting pressure on them "to do it":

"One of the concerns people have is that Israel might do it without being asked... Given the fact that Iran has a stated policy that their objective is the destruction of Israel, the Israelis might well decide to act first, and let the rest of the world worry about cleaning up the diplomatic mess afterwards," (quoted from an MSNBC Interview Jan 2005)

Israel is a Rottweiler on a leash: The US wants to "set Israel loose" to attack Iran. Commenting the Vice President's assertion, former National Security adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski in an interview on PBS, confirmed with some apprehension, yes: Cheney wants Prime Ariel Sharon to act on America's behalf and "do it" for us:

"Iran I think is more ambiguous. And there the issue is certainly not tyranny; it's nuclear weapons. And the vice president today in a kind of a strange parallel statement to this declaration of freedom hinted that the Israelis may do it and in fact used language which sounds like a justification or even an encouragement for the Israelis to do it."

The foregoing statements are misleading. The US is not "encouraging Israel". What we are dealing with is a joint US-Israeli military operation to bomb Iran, which has been in the active planning stage for more than a year. The Neocons in the Defense Department, under Douglas Feith, have been working assiduously with their Israeli military and intelligence counterparts, carefully identifying targets inside Iran (Seymour Hersh)

Under this working arrangement, Israel will not act unilaterally, without a green light from Washington. In other words, Israel will not implement an attack without the participation of the US…

------

I can't help but think there's a connection between our social security money and these "endless" wars bushco inc. are promoting. Probably something to do with our money going to finance their wars through the stock market (private accounts). Of course, like Enron, when it comes time to cash out there won't be anything left - it'll all have been looted along the way. It's so hard to believe that fellow human beings could be so crass, greedy, uncaring and immoral, but then again, when I speak with people, even friends, they agree that that's the way it is (dog-eat-dog world) and only fools think there is any other way to lead life (i.e. don't lie, steal, cheat to get ahead - the good 'ol anything for money club). But, if asked, none of them consider themselves liars, cheaters or thieves ... go figure.

It will take alot to change peoples mentality. Probably a cataclism of some sort. People are simply, in general, too selfish and independent to think of the collective good. That's why we're inexorably marching towards ... the light (which is at the far end of a very dark tunnel).

blessings to all,

Great and depressing analysis, Marta.....and all too accurate. Depressingly so!

this is a quote from Palden Jenkin's aricle on group dynamics, and it seems to fit this board...

Palden Jenkins

Discussions about a web-discussion group called GWell

What I like about group process in its various forms is its capacity to activate *synergy*, group lift-off, where the whole becomes more than the sumtotal of its parts. A group genius kicks in where well-above-ordinary things arise, and all participants are enabled and inspired to move forward. People discover new capacities and new roles, and new opportunities emerge which never were there before - it has a miracle-working quality. Or, at least, it is stimulating, innately supportive and gives a forward-moving feeling - even to the group's aggrieved.http://www.palden.co.uk/palden/p4-groups1.html

NeoBuckeye, got your response on the last thread. i'd say you're dealing with a methaphorical version of the DC area. the time after 911 was when i really bonded with the people in this area. i'd lived here since 1981 but always missed nyc. what i noticed was that people here were very calm and contained which is extraordinary considering we didn't know what was coming next and THE LEADERS RAN LIKE LITTLE CHICKENS AWAY FROM THE AREA. that's right, congress got out by helicopter, * was touring the southeast, midwest. we were alone for all practical purposes...and people were great. helpful, courteous, but, most of all, calm in the best sense of the term since to react with full force would have been just awful.

the corruption here is periodic. the scoundrels come into town, take over for a while, then leave. the corruption level in VA is very low, very honest government, state and local, no mob to speak of, etc.

anyway, i can see how you would see that symbol but the symbol has hardly any impact here, majority of dc and no. va residents despise *.

I read this today:

"But sadly, I can't go any further. Not today. Maybe it's because I'm tired. Maybe because I'm sick, but whatever the reason - today I feel lost. I feel helpless and I feel overwhelmed by all of this. I keep telling myself we are making a difference, that things will change. But today, I need to turn my back on the world and just be numb."

Perfect description of Mars just entering Pisces. I wonder about the next six weeks. On June 1, the Sun in Gemini will square Uranus, and Mars will square Pluto. More truth is being revealed about the Iraq war plans. The Mars will go into Aries about the time the great Iranian War is set to start. And Jupiter will turn direct in Libra.
I wonder.
The public does seem to be losing some enthusiasm for murder abroad.

Judi, there are some good thoughts in that article about group dynamics. I like this:

"What I've found though, for this group synergy to happen, is the need for 'containment'. A leaky bucket holds no water, and the universe therefore doesn't pour energy in! There are two main ways of making a 'containing field': by clear leadership/facilitation, or by group consensus - and with an agreement of spirit at the core. Group consensus is often held as the ideal, though it actually involves more discipline and challenge than the former. In our busy days, this can be difficult to sustain, and needs to be kept manageable if it is to be sustained. But, in my experience, without careful construction of a 'ring of power', the power doesn't rise, or catastrophes can happen. We've just had the latter."

I really do think we are getting burned out with strong central leadership. At least I hope so. We may be slowly evolving toward more personal sovereignty, and I think we are starting to learn that in the blogosphere where all you have to do is type it and post it to be heard. Agreement and strength at the core in the face of challenge should be forthcoming.

Personally, Mars in Pisces is now on my sun and it's keeping me energized, although i know what you mean about it squaring Pluto later on, jm (which will also activate my mars/venus square with my husband's uranus). The sun-Gemini/ Uranus Pisces square shouldn't be too bad for my chart but what does all of this mean for the U.S.'s chart? I've heard the US is edging into an attack on Venezuela instead of Iran UNLESS the plan is to make it look like Iran is attacking first. Let's surround all concerned, including the earth, with white light, and visualize peace.

Posted by: Sharon on May 4, 2005 12:02 AM

So now we are scrounging around looking for weak countries to attack? Where is our confidence and bravado? I wonder if this resistance (imbued with white light) is making a difference. The war drum seems to becoming a limp patter. More like something to dance to in a dark and dreamy multi-colored room. Sipping on something slightly sweet.

Hi Judi gemini, thanks for your kind comment ... I don't get as depressed about it all as I used to (or I try not to as much as possible) ... I used to gnash my teeth about the stolen elections, Iraq war, Abu Graib, Guantanamo, the State of our Union, etc., etc., etc. Now I've come to realize that nothing can change until "the collective" gets it.

Right now I feel like we're living in a kind of "ground hog day", where the new day starts the same every single day until slowly, subliminally change is produced one person at a time. Yes, it's terrible. But what can we do? I know that I have changed a lot over the past couple of years and it's taken me a long time to somewhat dimly grasp a vision of what could be and that's because I don't yet know what should be either ... I'm still in the stage of not this, not that (neti, neti). In the end everything will be as it must be and the less we worry about it and the more time we spend in nurturing ourselves and those whom we love the better off we'll be. It's too easy to live in fear and in "what if". What if we're attacked, what if, what if, what if. We can't possibly prepare for each and every contingency. We couldn't function on a day to day basis if we tried. I don't know if anybody was watching 6 Feet Under (HBO series) last season, but for those who did, remember the guy who spent his every waking moment trying to prepare the basement for an eventual nuclear attack? Wasn't he sort of sad? I know I understood his motivation (I was trying to figure out how to build my own bunker - my mind was going crazy trying to make lists of needs, seeds, water, etc.! - but it's so futile). In the end we will all die one way or another at one time or another. And while our bodies and egos may be afraid when the time comes, our souls will not.

It seems like so many famous, wonderful and memorable people have died over the past 4-5 years ... and I've had this recurring thought ... "those luckies!" How come they get to skip all the angst! Silly me! They had their own battles and upsets to deal with during their times ... McCarthy, Hoover, Civil rights struggles, World War I & II, Hiroshima and Nagasaki (so sad!)segregation, lynchings (yipes! - now that's scary!!!!!), Suffrage (yeah! remember we didn't used to have the vote - well none of do now either, but you know what I mean!). You name it.

If you think about it, we haven't been singled out for anything more or less terrible than other generations before us have had to endure (no, we're not special) ... nothing has changed. So I guess it's time to just "buck up" and get on with it! So smile, girl, time for a nice little glass of wine to finish up the day, LOL :)

Anyway, don't know the answers, but I sure am glad I found everybody on this site ... sanity!

Judi gem ... great link to Palden Jenkin's aricle on group dynamics. I've noticed that over the past 4 years it has been increasingly difficult to reach "consensus" in group meetings. In the end the best achievement seems to be to arrive at a civil, we agree to disagree ...

Israel may act like a pugnacious lil bulldog, but comparing it to Iran in just land-mass & population is like comparing a drop of water to a lake. And Iran has not been decimated by decades of US/UK military pounding either [thank Godess]. It would be quite a trick to pull off not to mention that neocons have no longer any element of surprise.

We hear about the heartless greedy people, but do not hear about the more numerous who are not heartless & greedy... not with the criminals in the WH, who have a perfect genius for drawing out those most like themselves & supressing the others. I daresay it's just about always been that way.

"The US will prevail in any conflict," and other such flattery, is required of anyone who wishes to be heard by "the average american." To speak unpalatable Truths is to be "with the terrorists."

Judy, I also, along with my aunt, took care of my mom when she had dementia. I believe it was caused by her arteriosclerosis. She never lost herself though, even though she had much confusion and short term memory loss. She was always cute and lovable (in fact she became more lovable). She became something like a child. She told anyone who was nice to her that she loved them. Her repetition was difficult to take but I used to tease her about it and my aunt & I would laugh and sing with her. Sometimes, just to tease her I'd ask her what she had for dinner and she would answer "the same thing you had" (although we didn't live together or eat together at that time). I considered that a typical comeback from my competitive mom who didn't like to be wrong or lose (she was a no. 1 life path in numerology). She always had so much gusto and spunk. I married just before she left her body and moved to New Orleans. My mother-in-law is also a Virgo, with Venus in Leo, and she reminds me a great deal of my own mother. It's a very special feeling. I hope you also have these kinds of good memories amid the trials.

Sharon, your story about your mom is really sweet. My mom was diagnosed with Alheimer's 2&1/2; it was later determined that she has a dementia called Pick's disease, the symptoms of which are more behavioral than memory (though there is some lack in communicative function...she does forget some things). Mom's a Scorp Sun/Gemini moon, lots of Virgo (incl. Mars and Neptune) in the 7th house; she was always such a workhorse and well behaved, and now she's sometimes mean and physically aggressive and feisty and enjoys saying "Oh, you're an ***hole!" and "You're full of sh**!"

I don't see her much, she's in MN & I'm in CO. The rest of my family is in MN too, and she lives at my sister's (& her husband) now -- Dad couldn't deal with it all after 50 yrs of being taken care of. Phone conversations with her are rare and usually less than a minute long. I'd love to be there and assist in her care; on the other hand, I'm the youngest and have always seen the world differently (and followed a different path) than my siblings, who are all more "normal, mainstream" and put little stock into what I may have to say.

Sometimes Mom cracks me up by slipping her tongue into a kiss, or squeezing my breast. Sometimes she really annoys me and I'm not able to act other than what I feel; but that doesn't seem to be a problem. Mainly, I think of her as a woman who -- after all those years of work and good behavior -- really needed to cut loose. If she needs a medically identified reason to do so, so be it.

Lori, that's an extremely interesting & insightful take on why your mother acquired "Pick's Syndrome." I think there is a lot of truth to what you are thinking.

Well, it's Mom's Day in a few days so let's praise them all. They all did snd still do their best (just like we do). Everyone has limitations and it's so important to heal ourselves and understand that.

My mom & her sisters used to tell me a story about someone from our home town named Dollar Rosie. If you guessed she was a prostitute, you're right. Must have been in the 30s or 40s. Her son never allowed s bad word to be said about her in his company. This said as much about him as it did about her. It's a very impressive thing. I believed it anyway. Of course, I got to hear it because I was complaining about MY mom.

The President of the United States is lying. Again.

Bush noted that on April 9, 2003, a statue of Hussein that stood
in Baghdad was pulled from its pedestal to the ground on the day American
commanders declared Hussein's regime no longer ruled in the city.

"The toppling of Saddam Hussein's statue in Baghdad will be recorded,
alongside the fall of the Berlin Wall, as one of the great moments in the
history of liberty," Bush said.

That's excerpted from an article that was written by an Associated
Press reporter, and ran in hundreds of American newspapers. The part where
the reporter points out that Bush was lying was never written at all, so
never published.

Hey jm,

In your last comment you wrote "I really do think we are getting burned out with strong central leadership. At least I hope so. We may be slowly evolving toward more personal sovereignty...."

So strnage you write that because I see that so much as well. In fact, I'm writing an article for my own personal website about the coming Pluto in Capricorn in 2008 and the US' Sagittarius Rising chart. This is exactly what I see coming around the bend with transiting Pluto in the 2nd house forming a nice trine to Uranus on the descendent. Though painful at first, this trine will cause the US to reevaluate community and individual rights and liberties. Watch the people move away from large governemtal structures and large organizations(corporations) in favor of more independent and smaller entities.

With Pluto now in Sagittarius, transiting Pluto is creating a nice sextile to the US' natal Saturn. Saturn, the significator of large institutions, is benefiting from this aspect. But, in Capricorn this will become a square, leaving larger institutions unable to transform themselves and to make the necessary changes to reach dominance. This can be corporations unable to dominate markets, such as the press and media mergers, or the government to control information.

Posted by: Travieso on May 4, 2005 06:13 AM

That's great Travieso. I think you are right about the government being unable to control information. I am especially interested in seing a decline in authoritarian control because I have a lot of Aries as you do and I certainly don't need anybody telling me what to do. I make my own decisions and I motivate myself. I am perfectly capable of being my own boss.
I think this will especially come up when Uranus goes into Aries and squares the Pluto. The question of who has the authority will be asked. Do we follow our own dictates or those of the government? If the control of the government weakens, then that should be an easy one. It's hard for most people, though, since they are so used to giving up power. But if the so called leadership keeps up in this vein we will have no choice. I think the people are already getting the hint. That these incompetents are leading us all over the place and are looking more and more confused by the minute.
I am wondering if this will also mean more power to the states and less federal control eventually. What do you think?

this song is THE best political song ever in the USofA.

here is the link (you have to go to a KOS diary and click on the link indicated). i've included the lyrics. the guy performed this on Leno tonight (the show didn't know it was the song he'd do...audience went wild).

BRIGHT EYES LYRICS

"When The President Talks To God"

When the president talks to God
Are the conversations brief or long?
Does he ask to rape our women’s' rights
And send poor farm kids off to die?
Does God suggest an oil hike
When the president talks to God?

When the president talks to God
Are the consonants all hard or soft?
Is he resolute all down the line?
Is every issue black or white?
Does what God say ever change his mind
When the president talks to God?

When the president talks to God
Does he fake that drawl or merely nod?
Agree which convicts should be killed?
Where prisons should be built and filled?
Which voter fraud must be concealed
When the president talks to God?

When the president talks to God
I wonder which one plays the better cop
We should find some jobs. the ghetto's broke
No, they're lazy, George, I say we don't
Just give 'em more liquor stores and dirty coke
That's what God recommends

When the president talks to God
Do they drink near beer and go play golf
While they pick which countries to invade
Which Muslim souls still can be saved?
I guess god just calls a spade a spade
When the president talks to God

When the president talks to God
Does he ever think that maybe he's not?
That that voice is just inside his head
When he kneels next to the presidential bed
Does he ever smell his own bullshit
When the president talks to God?

I doubt it

I doubt it

Most artists I know think and live as creatively and imaginatively as they work. They know there are infinite possibilities when it comes to survival.
Some sell their work and make money. Some become famous. Some have other jobs. Some have family, friends, and lovers who support them. Some have grants. Some have wealthy patrons. Some live communally and share everything.

The most talented artist I have ever known was supported all his life by a wealthy woman who believed in him. He once painted a picture of The Last Supper where the disciples were all holding menus and Jesus had his hand in the air summoning a waiter. She bought this parody and donated it to her church. It now hangs in that Christian church somewhere in the Pennsylvania countryside. He never sold much but he worked from childhood to his death. Everybody helped him. And his brilliant paintings and drawings are still here.

The one common thing is that these artists enrich society with their offerings mo matter what their circumstances. The possibilities are endless as to how they can live. So are the realities.

Posted by: Pat QOP on May 4, 2005 11:33 AM

Oh, Pat Q, I won't even say 'Happy Birthday' because I find it ludicrous. I have never liked them. I would rather say you have my sympathy. To me there is a feeling of grief at the ending of another year of life. A few days later, though, I can usually rejoice.
I do, however, laud you for surviving as well as you have through the hard times you have described, and these days 66 is still young. We live so long.
A little depression is a small price to pay for this passage into the next year.

Nothing can part an artist from her work for long. And nothing can take away talent. I always take breaks from my work and when I return it is like being reunited with my lost lover. And things change during those fallow times that surprise me when I work again. Sometimes the breaks mean a new phase is fomenting.

I always get depressed on my birthday, but maybe I will part ways with my usual behavior and wish you a 'Happy' Birthday anyway. The funny thing about the future... it changes all the time.

PQ,

Happy, Happy Birthday to you! I love birthdays, myself... find them reflective times. I hope times get easier for you and the situation with your son lightens. Our generation has lots of time with our children, right? :)) You continue to paint - I wish you were in our neck of the woods. I am always looking for artists who work with children. This is a small town, but last year they converted one of the old vacant buildings on main street into a gallery and studio. Local artists display their work on consignment and the children come in for classes - they often times put huge sheets of paper on the floor for the children to paint on... and then they hang those! Everyone benefits. There are lots of vacant buildings on most main streets of America. Lots of light to you. Enjoy your grits! Namaste

Thank you Soulchild, Jeanie, Garry and others --- I appreciate your kind words, but I am afraid my astrological insights are limited to 'after the fact' or, rarely --- in the moment. Thank goodness though this board abounds with many who do read the coming energy.

Garry, there's another diary up on dKos re GOP and their 'core' [Hey, maybe Pluto will rot that CORE] --- seems Jeb * is not going to pursue the recent judicial ruling for the young 13 year-old pregnant girl in Florida seeking an abortion (why do all these things happen in FLORIDA! and isn't this state responsible for 'losing' some 200 plus children in 'their care'?). He's quoted as saying simply "Look, if the judge has ruled, it's time to move on."

If y'all believe the CORE will sit still for that, there's still plenty of swamp land available in FLORIDA for sale... some believe it will merely exascerbate the growing chasm between the GOP and its 'base' --- you can read all about it in the diary at Kos:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/5/3/201338/7509

P.S. to Garry: To answer your question about Frist: imo he has already shot himself in the foot with his appearance on the Sunday smear-a-thon. If he pushes for the 'nuclear option' next week it will add to the growing anger against * and his push to dismantle social security... (how 'low can he go'? * in the polls?) Anyway, it looks to be a long, hot summer... Namaste to you!

Re this sentiment: I always get depressed on my birthday

vcz: Manymany years ago, I began a new tradition for myself. My birthday is the one day each year that is MINE! I don't answer the phones, I don't speak to anyone, and I do as I please [whether it be sleep, eat, write, draw, paint, meditate, whatever]. I LOVE my birthdays! They leave me feeling refreshed, and ready to take on the world, once more.

The hardest part of beginning such a tradition is getting others to drop THEIR expectations for YOUR birthdays. Luckily, I'd already trained myself. Just as I owe no explanation to a man I don't wish to date, I owe no explanation to anyone who doesn't understand why I'd want to be alone on my birthdays. My choices regarding my life don't require acceptance and/or understanding from others before I can act upon them. Period.

Try this at home. It works! Especially for women. Without such a tradition, is ANY day ours?

Posted by: vcz on May 4, 2005 06:54 PM

Garry: a special hello to Peg who has chosen not to "go gently into that good night"...YAY!!!!!

vcz: Every time I think about Peg, I can't help but think of another friend, Sharon. EVERYone who knows her will tell you that the word "ornery" was invented for her. She was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago, and told she needed chemo, but would still not live more than a year. She refused ALL treatment, including chemo [because she wasn't going to lose her hair], and drove the doctors to distraction. Four years later, you'd still never know she's "sick," let alone "terminal." Not ONE thing has changed. Including the fact that she's still driving her doctors to distraction. It's almost as though they want her to start feeling like crap and then die, just so they can say, "I told her so!"

What's the difference between God and a doctor? God doesn't think he's a doctor...

"I really enjoyed that he pulled one over on Leno... that he didn't know 'this' song was coming!"

vcz: If that's the story making the rounds, it's false. After half-watching the news, last night, my conscious mind tuned in the tv when I heard Leno going on and on, preparing the audience for a musical guest whose song might "offend" many sensibilities. He must've spent three full minutes making sure everyone knew he had no opinion either way, but that audience members would have strong reactions, pro and con. He doesn't offer such "disclaimers" when the musical guest is going to sing a rabidly "pro-American" song.

His disclaimer had me interested in what was to come, but Leno is such a spineless, sycophantic buffoon I can't bear to watch or listen to him. So I turned the channel...

If, today, Leno is claiming he "didn't know" what song was to be done, he's an even bigger suck-up weasel than I'd imagined. He knew exactly what was coming, and if there's a single person in this country who deems him tivo-worthy, the Truth will soon set him free...

JO [re No-Account Jebula]: "Look, if the judge has ruled, it's time to move on."

vcz: Great article, btw, Jo! Jebula's press conference and newfound respect for the rule of law were hilarious. He decided it was "time to move on" because she'd already had the abortion. And the media whores were kind enough to backtrack and claim "no one knows" whether or not it was a fait accomplis.

I have missed most of this thread, taking care of business and such, and now Nancy has a new one up (yay!), but I don't want to stretch this stuff into it. I'm doing very well Garry, vcz, thank you. I've taken the bull by the horns & am transforming my thoughts/ my life. vcz, loved your story, I wonder if your friend was a fire sign too? This LEO does whatever she wants to, lol. Pat C, I'm going to wish you a birthday filled with music, laughter and love before it's over. Hope you get all of the above.

sorry, Pat QOP, not Pat C. my mistake.

"I've taken the bull by the horns & am transforming my thoughts/ my life. vcz I wonder if your friend was a fire sign too? This LEO does whatever she wants to."

vcz: Peg! She's actually a taurus, but she may have a lot of fire in her [have never done her chart]. On another note, I have both sun and moon in leo [though am a July baby, and much more cancerian in nature than leonine], and the number of times I was going to die, according to doctors, is more than the fingers I have for counting. Am also "supposed to be a quad" [was creamed in a car accident]. But am no longer [visibly] handicapped.

I listen to western medicos about as much as I listen to fundies [or any other "chosen ones"]. An ear to the Universe is all one needs. Do as your innards advise. And IF it's soon time for you to go Home, consider yourself Lucky [and come to me in a dream to say hello]! Much Love & Good Wishes...
