MOMMA SAID THERE WOULD BE DAYS LIKE THIS, MY MOMMA SAID.
“Whenever you find that you are on the side of the majority, it is time to reform.” (Mark Twain) Ah spring! Can't you almost hear "Ode to Spring" the birds tweetering, the bees buzzing, the lily's springing forth, and new beginnings. Buds flowering from trees and newly thawed ground, birds are building their nests preparing for little arrivals. Some thoughts turn to love, weddings, babies, and Easter. You can smell it, can’t you? Spring! The musty scent of the earth mixed with spring blossoms defusing winter’s lingering stuffy odors. And right smack dab in the middle of babies and puppies and daffodils and tulips falls SATURN turning direct. I mean here we are, with the Cardinal sign of Aries conjuring up the image of spring, and oppressive ole Saturn belongs in the winter of our souls. But here he is, still in the Cardinal sign of Cancer, holding America’s feet to the fire of taking responsibility for all her actions. What a bummer. Or is it? This is not an article per se, no poetic license; no drawing historical parallels to another time and very little editorial comment (at least not as much as I would like to make.) There's too much going on in the sky that affects and will affect nearly every aspect of American life by way of the people who say WE put them in charge to lead us. In big and small ways this spring and summer is the time to stand up and be counted, even if it is passing along affirming words and thoughts. On March 19 Mercury goes retrograde in Aries (Cardinal) a few days later Saturn goes direct in another Cardinal sign, retrograde Jupiter is in Libra (Cardinal) and Mars is still in Capricorn. Mercury at it’s Retrograde station Mercury will be opposing the 9/11 Mercury at 14 degrees Libra and Jupiter will retrograde back over 14 Libra. We can expect a re-visit of additional information coming out regarding 9/11, more proof and accusations of the administration ignoring the signs and those among us who see conspiracy in 9/11 won’t have to look too far for confirmation of their theories. Over the last several months I have been following a line of investigation of clients and public figures with late degree Cardinal signs, pulling up some very interesting results. My clients have been experiencing lost jobs, can’t find jobs, miscarriages, divorces, called off weddings, flu, colds, low energy, broken bones, dental problems, and an over all uncomfortable time. Public figures or “mid-level management leaders,” have been having an equally difficult time. Martha Stewart got out of jail but will be facing another five months of house arrest and those months will be the most difficult for her. There will eventually be a great deal of criticism of her “house arrest” TV programs, although she has proven herself to be very resilient and willing to take whatever is coming for her and make it into something better. But it will be a very difficult five months, worse and in some ways more humiliating than prison. Dan Rather (10.31.1931) lost his job and some of his colleagues (Mike Wallace) are dissing him. Sad. (Pluto late Cancer) Camilla Parker Bowles (07.17.1947) Sun late degree Cancer. The course of true love doesn’t seem to be running too well for her. Pope John Paul (05.18.1920) late degree Libra Mars, I don’t think he will live past mid-May, if he does it will be in a greatly reduced capacity Carly Fiorina several planets in late degree Cardinal signs. She was unceremoniously and humiliatingly fired from Hewlett-Packard and her troubles are not over. Her name has been bandied about, as on the short list for President of World Bank, it would not be a good idea for her to take the job. Harry Stonecipher President of Boeing, Pluto in late degree Cancer, leaving him with a double Saturn/Pluto whammy with transiting Pluto squaring his natal Saturn, and transiting Saturn conjoined natal Pluto. Saturn can stop the good times from rolling. Harry was forced out for having an affair with someone at Boeing, a practice he strictly “prohibited for his employees,” so says the NY Times. My personal favorite to watch has been Arnold Schwarzenegger he not only has late degree Cancer planets but early degree Leo. His polls are falling faster than the rain soaked hills of Southern California. It will be a very bad summer and fall, people calling for recall. My that’s how he got his job and the specter of going out the same way hangs over him. On top of everything else the Christian Right is trying to get the Sports Illustrated Swim Suit edition taken off the market. What a grumpy ole Saturn for you. That will make the Nascar Dads take a closer look at what's going on in the White House. The Republican and Democratic Party are in line for a rigid spring and summer. Lots of in-fighting and frustrated action for them, not much give on either side, mercifully the Democrats will be a bit more solid in their front. Mars in the Republican Party chart is on the South Node of the 2005 Inauguration Chart and will be squared by Saturn in June. The Inaugural Chart itself has late degree Saturn, Chiron, and the Nodes. Could the “masses” be getting sick and tired of political games at our expense? The entire Senate and House are on shaky ground with their constituents and I don’t know if they realize how shaky, I would doubt if they do know. The Gannon/Guckert scandal is either just beginning or there are major outings coming to the front burner. I don’t know what they will do about it, but it’s for sure that the Christian Right is about to be shocked beyond what their “belief” system can take. The US has Mercury at 24 degree Cancer and Pluto at 27 degree Capricorn, plus in America’s secondary progressed, minor progressed and solar arc charts late degree Cardinal signs are plentiful. I’ve saved the best for last. Every single major player on the World stage right now has late degree Cardinal signs. Sharon, Bush, Blair, Bush Sr., Condi, Goss (and have you heard him whine lately, in fact Saturn will turn stationary direct on his Mars,) Gonzales (plus early Leo) Rumsfeld, Cheney, Delay, Frist, Hastert; such a long, long list of people in this administration will be aspected by Saturn this spring and summer. This administration will be working harder than they can imagine keeping secrets from leaking out, and covering up their “true colors.” The President, Dick Cheney, and Condi Rice’s physical and/or mental health is in jeopardy, as well as their popularity. Jupiter has retrograded off GWB’s Jupiter and the US progressed Mars leaving him vulnerable, however I expect he has made a ton of money off the US the last several months. “and the Lord says “my mercy falls on the just and the unjust.” Sharon is in real physical danger; Blair has a struggle to hold his position through England’s May Election unless they have Diabold for their voting machines. Bill Clinton also has late degree Cardinal signs, there will be more and more questions as he seems to be moving toward the right, both he and Hillary will be moving more toward the right and thinking they are holding their centrist position. It’s just that the center has moved considerably since he was President. Our financial road ahead is unbelievably rocky, matched only by our value system as a country. Check with your money managers and pay attention to your investments. Just remember that right now, oil, water; gold, alternative energy sources are good investments. Water is an excellent long-term investment. Uranus is squaring the US Uranus for the first time next week. US Uranus rules the 3rd house in America’s chart (communication and media) more stunners for the media, maybe with better reporting as a result by January 2006. There are articles galore out there saying “the sky is falling” and the sky is falling, but we do not know what “universe” is beyond the sky we’ve been looking at all these years. There are articles comparing this period of time to the Holocaust. There are sure some incidents we can point toward that says WWII and Hitler/Holocaust. There are incidents we can point toward that says “Civil War,” “Revolutionary War,” “WWI,” “The Depression,” and this list goes on and on, this is just our period of time and how we add to this period is an individual thing. This country is in the process of growing up and finding a better way for us and that process is never easy, because everyone has a different idea of what it means to have a “better way.” What’s your concept of a “better way?” Now is the time to put those thoughts into words and action when appropriate. For everyone who does have late degree Cardinal signs and are struggling in these last few months just remember: Momma said there’d be days like this, there’d be days like this, my momma said. And we can be glad we don’t have to play them out on the world’s stage. For skywatchers on this site, keep your eye on the balls of Saturn, Uranus and Pluto. Jupiter goes direct in mid spring and Jupiter doesn't always bring good things to us, sometimes it brings too much of a good thing. Mars will soon be going into Aquarius and opposing GWB's Asc., Mercury and Pluto, irritation there and we will see that irritation. As Saturn moves closer and closer to a person's first house cusp an anxious sense of unease starts to build, a feeling of not knowing what will be coming our way, the direct motion of Saturn will bring that feeling to everyone subsisting under a transiting 12th house Saturn and that would be, Woops! GWB! Have fun this spring, it's a good time for bird or people watching.

Ah, there's nothing sweeter than the fresh scent of Saturn on a balmy spring morning! :-/ Here we go. Posted by: Pat C on March 8, 2005 05:10 PMBill Clinton to Have Scar Tissue Removed Former President Clinton, who underwent quadruple bypass surgery in September, will undergo a medical procedure this week to remove fluid and scar tissue from his left chest, his office announced Tuesday. The procedure will take place Thursday at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center. Clinton is expected to remain in the hospital for three to 10 days, his office said in a statement. Clinton was proceeding with his schedule in Washington on Tuesday. He smiled and waved to reporters as he entered the State Department for meetings, but did not make any comment. He planned to be at a White House event later in the day, according to his spokesman, Jim Kennedy. More... Posted by: Pat C on March 8, 2005 05:15 PMglad you touched on this Sally. I've read somewhere else that the late degrees of Cardinal signs are having trouble (Clinton going back in for surgery) and I have felt for some time that the powers that be are setting Bush up for a fall. As you intimated, we mere puppets have no real idea what's going on behind the scenes and towards what purpose. There are still a couple of axioms I feel are true (only a couple because my beliefs in most things have been shattered): the truth always rises to the top, and what goes around comes around. We've got beaucoup crocuses (croki?)coming up in central Il., not long before the tulips & daffodils!!! Posted by: Peg on March 8, 2005 05:16 PMWonderful Sally. Thanks. The kind of "rounding up" all that's happening that really lays it all out. This morning's news..Just My Bill going into the hospital for more surgery around the heart and the collapsed lung. Dear God, you've got the wrong President! I haven't done his chart, which I will and post up here, but Lordy, on the verge of Mercury Rx is lousy. All have been talking about bad events March/April. Please God, let it not be him. Even that bottom crawler bob novak yesterday commented on Crossfire, talking about pappy traveling with Just My Bill and how they got along - "Well you know, anyone who spends anytime with Bill Clinton, whether its man or woman, falls in love with him" - !!!!!! quite an admission of admiration coming from the epitome of the insensitive. " hopefully the rebellion I wrote of long ago would take place - but I'm not betting on it.... but better yet, the consolidation of the media into 6 corporate coffers may be broken up with that aspect. The fact that several news shows including CNN and MSNBC every day report on what the bloggers are saying, speaks loudly of their awareness that they are being made irrelevant. Uranus also rules "government" in general. Now this will be interesting. I suspect we are going to be witnessing either strikes by govt workers and the rebellion of parts of the government against other parts of the government. From the liberal viewpoint, what could be better? Also, I would not get on an airplane with this aspect in effect. It also speaks of roads and travel, the infrastructure of the country breaking down. Maybe it will wake up the "purported" 51 percent who voted for him ( I don;t believe 51 percent voted for him at all!) This is excellent news, as it hasn’t gotten the traction it deserved and a good stiff sock to the fundies may be just what they need. And while not a NASCAR fan, if they want to pummel the right’s hypocrisy and thumb screwing our rights. Bill Clinton has to have another procedure for his heart. On a personal level, “flu, colds, low energy” have plagued us since November, and as of last night a cracked tooth means “dental problems”. It’s hard to imagine how much more shocked we could be over events in this country but when J. Bolton was picked yesterday for the UN, I knew the bottom of the barrel hadn’t been scraped. Am still rather vague about the nodes though i do know they have karma written all over them (if only i knew how to interpret a little better ;-) But Saturn first hit my Gemini Sun and now has been hovering over my VOC 5th house Cancer Moon and adding a dimension of emotional depth. Could Uranus square Uranus also indicate some sort of instant and astounding communication disruption? i.e. powerful storms (we just experienced that here in Tennessee and apparently this storm is sweeping up the east coast) or attacks on the communication infrastructure? karen
Nearly 500,000 pro-Syrian protesters waved flags and chanted anti-American slogans in a central Beirut square Tuesday, answering a nationwide call by the militant Shiite Muslim Hezbollah group for a demonstration to counter weeks of massive rallies demanding Syrian forces leave Lebanon. Organizers handed out Lebanese flags and directed the men and women to separate sections of the square. Loudspeakers blared militant songs urging resistance to foreign interference. Relocating Just My Bill's chart to New York, NY I don;t like his transits for the Mercury Rx. I have found that even when you relocate, your underlying birth chart still registers, and his birthchart gives him a Venus (Libra) ruled chart. Right now, in the New York area he has a Virgo ruled chart and transiting Mercury in the 7th house squares his natal Saturn-Mercury-Pluto in the 11th house. Mars/Neptune moving to his first house from the 12th makes him very susceptible to infections. T Pluto is conjunct his 4th house cusp and is co ruler of his Aries 8th house. T. Pluto opposes his natal Uranus. Transiting South Node is conjunct his natal Jupiter in the second, , Transiting Vertex is square the midpoint of his natal Saturn/Mercury (ruler of his relocated chart) T Mars and Sun are at the 29th degree.T Mars at 29 Cap is conjunct Chiron at 1 Aquarius, sextile Transiting Venus is at 26 Pisces on his 7th house cusp opposition his 26 Virgo Ascendant. I don't like these aspects for surgery for him at all. And I certainly don't like Venus exactly on his 7th cusp. This is not a walk in the park as they all seem to be inferring. It could be close. Posted by: Pallas18 on March 8, 2005 07:31 PM"approved appropriately?" that makes it an even bigger problem if the FBI could not find out what blogger found out about him in 10 minutes. Farrout, Uranus square the US Uranus could indeed make "communications" haywire, but it won't just be on thing that happens with that aspect. It seems the Corporate media won't touch it though, and the public at large is wholly ignorant of the story. Is there evidence that this scandal is gaining strength? Seems like this could be the scandal that brings the administration down, but I've thought that many times over the last few years. An unarmed, wounded American soldier is lying helpless, bleeding and barely conscious on the floor of a church in a country with which the US is at war. An armed soldier of that country walks up to the wounded American. It so happens that a TV cameraman is present. He films the foreign soldier shouting, "He's fucking faking he's dead!" One of his comrades says "And he's breathing". The first soldier again yells "He's faking he's fucking dead!" He then kills the helpless, wounded man with a burst of fire that blows his head off and spatters the room with blood and tiny bits of flesh and bone. One of the foreign soldiers says "He's dead, now." Question One: What do you think the reaction of most of the American people would be to the murder of a wounded, unarmed US soldier lying helpless and barely conscious on the floor of a church in a foreign land? Question Two: What was the reaction of most of the American people to the murder of a wounded, unarmed Iraqi lying helpless and barely conscious on the floor of a mosque in his own country? more http://207.44.245.159/article8214.htm Posted by: wv on March 8, 2005 09:58 PMAlthough I have been a fan of this site for years, have never posted before. Posted by: bobbypins on March 8, 2005 10:02 PMI don't know why, but I really believe that the Gannon/Guckert story has allot of teeth to it, and I don't think this is the end, but the beginning. Gannon, to me, will be the doorway to something bigger. The Mars/Pluto conjunction in the eight house on the Admin's second term chart, to me, isn't the classical martian prediction of War with others. This Pluto/Mars conjunction means something even more perverse. Pluto, the higher vibration of Mars, wants to express itself on the psychological level. Indeed, Pluto rules psychology. THe Gannon/Guckert story has all of these Plutonian components - the sexual issues of control, of secrets, and of destruction. The administration maybe destroyed (the action of Pluto) not because of Martians drive for classical physical war, but because of war within the psychological underpinnings of this Administration. In classical astrology, Mars seperates things, and Pluto tells me that it will seperate the party from the collective (i.e. us, you and me, and the general population) through its own hidden secrets and psychological dysfunction. This is when Uranus comes in and the future Uranus squared the US Uranus. maybe this will be the time when the admin's secrets will be exposed. Just an idea. Interesting, though that the SS would speak openly about their "check" on Gannon. I thought they had a tradition of never speaking about their work or assignments. In addition, I wonder what criteria they used to determine that a prostitute with no news affiliation (remember Talon wasn't set up until a few months, later) was not a security risk and therefore should be allowed into the WH and to attend presidential briefings. Posted by: M. on March 8, 2005 11:02 PMExcellent comment, Travis. I wondered, too, about expanding our understanding of how both Mars and Pluto would work in that 8th House. Welcome... I bet very few folks even know what those are! :-) WV's post upthread at 9:58... makes me cry... makes me angry... makes me sad... makes me wonder. There are lots of stories online like this. Where is all the anger and rage and hate coming from? These are our children. These are Americans. They are not even fighting in a conventional war... Iraq is not fighting them (sure some folks are resisting and there are some "insurgents") they don't have an air force or any army... our troops are not subjected to bombings... I don't understand any of this. Perhaps Saturn--- karma is coming for more than this administration. Surely as a people, as a collective, there is a great deal of karma... and surely each and every day our military and those at home who scream "nuke 'em" are bringing karma to themselves. Someone recently said one can judge a country by its drivers and their cars... for a few weeks I will be driving my grands to and from school --- three different ones! through the rolling hills of North Carolina. This a.m., an SUV passed me - I was doing 60 in a 55 mph zone, the driver passed on a farm-to-market road, with no shoulder, on a curve with a solid double yellow line going uphill... he cut so closely in front of me that I could hear the air hissing between the cars! I mention this because it is not a rare incident... it is more the norm. Something is very wrong with our country... very wrong. (He knows about such things from his drinking and snorting days...) Pat C, You may want to check out Democratic Underground on that bankruptcy bill. They have a very interesting thread on it. Posted by: Jonathan on March 9, 2005 12:11 AMI think the economic dire straits we are in is information being withheld from the public. I am beginning to think that everything going on now is an attempt to save this country from bankruptcy. There is nothing to do at this point but watch where the cards fall. It seems that the only road out is to raise taxes, which will require a Democratic administration, unless the Republicans will risk all and smear the egg on their faces. And the same day this happened, the right wing writer Jill Stewart (Pat C. and WV, you know who I am talking about? The dollar's drop after the jobs report was ``really disappointing,'' said BNP's Lynch. ``That reinforced what has already been some bearish dollar sentiment in the market.'' Lynch forecasts the dollar will weaken to $1.34 per euro by June 30. Dollar declines today below $1.3280 per euro may pave the way for a further drop to $1.3385, said Andreas Mann, senior currency trader in New York at Commerzbank Securities, a unit of Germany's fourth-biggest bank. ``Technically it looks bad for the dollar,'' said Mann. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000087&sid=aSg3PWqmJwoU&refer=top_world_news Posted by: Jo on March 9, 2005 02:04 AMRense has the supplements story: Sally, Just catching up ~ Maybe Gannongate will grow some legs ~ one can only hope ~Who knows about the information on the site I am posting ~ But it certainly has some interesting info ~ If true
Perhaps, because until 1987, George W. Bush was gay. According to a group of 29 Yale classmates who comprise Gay Ivy Leaguers for Truth, Bush was "known to be at least sexually experimental throughout his time in college." One of Bush's alleged former boyfriends, Anthony Berusca (class of '70), told The Dallas Morning News that Bush was "deeply conflicted about being gay, even somewhat self-hating." Berusca is convinced that this conflict led to Bush's drinking problems, but describes the President as a "gentle, caring lover". In 1986, the Bush family arranged for George to join Worthy Creations, a church group in El Paso that focuses on converting homosexuals through faith. A year later, Bush claimed to be straight, born again, and engaged to Laura Welch. And it continues ~ on and on and on

But that won't matter if we have to vote on those #*$#(&*# machines. And the best way to get rid of the machines is to document that they create results that are desired by the powers-that-be rather rather than accurately counting the votes cast by the electorate. However, I do think both of them by nature are more conservative than almost anyone on Bobbypins, I fear I agree with you on the Clintons, there is something wrong there. I know Bill is a champion for the NWO (the third way) I'm just not sure that any party in this "democracy" is to be trusted at all, they for sure are not for the people. I agree with Jo, "Good Morning Americaaaaaa." By the way Jo, I took a look at that chart for the 19th. Moon conj. Saturn in the 1st house, is restriction for the people, but eye opening with Uranus in the 9th squaring America's natal Uranus, at least I hope "eye-opening" and not violence. The Sun at 29 pisces conjoined the Iraq War chart Sun. sextile Mars at 29 Capricorn and Venus in an applying Conj. to the Sun and sextile to Mars. Neptune in the 8th (gassing or spray that's harmful to the protesters) The Moon conjunct Saturn could also mean that not that many people show up. It is a powerful Mercury because it's stationary retrograde and retro Jupiter is going to go back to oppose it and square the Asc. Mars and Chiron in the 7th will certainly show the protesters to be open enemies of this war. Lots of emotion with five planets in water signs and one of the (Sun) at a critical degree. There is a "dryness" around this chart, the interception of Aries in the 10th (ruled my Mars) there is a dryness and a wounding, but I don't think the violent type of wounding, something that can't get started right. The passion will be there, the need to be heard, the sincerity but something doesn't jell. Hope I am wrong. So for all of us, remember all the energy IS neutral....we can create with it, but NO ONE ENERGY OR ENTITY IS ON 'OUR' SIDE. ( God doesn't CHOOSE SIDES either....if indeed, God has time for our problems at all) We are in a major warping of our liberal (catch all for 'our side') brains....we must create a new energy form/dynamic, and I think THAT dawning relevlation is going to be exciting. Posted by: Pallas18 on March 9, 2005 05:46 AMThis is sad to admit, but if B* is found out to be Gay, and knowing the way these fundies are, I could see allot of violence against gays and lesbians. The last thing that the Christian Right like to do is look at where they went wrong. For them, Satan, who causes all their problems, isn't in them, but someone or something outside themselves. I can easily see the anger at Bush turning into hatred and violence against us. It's much like the Holocaust and the "Rich Jew" propaganda in 1930's Germany. While for most a European history, Jews could not own land (i.e. agriculture), they benefitted from the up and coming merchantile (and later capitalist) economies in European cities. This wa s the Rothchilds who made a fortune in banking and brokerage. Gays have been marginalized to college towns, the three coasts (I put Austin, Texas in here as well), and progressive industries (like technologies) where their sexuality are not an issue. And now that Gays and Lesbians are succeeding and making inroads despite the discrimination, allot of straight America even get more pissed and bigoted. This is why gay marriage is so hated by the fundies. They cannot live another day seeing gays succeeding. Posted by: Travieso on March 9, 2005 06:06 AMHello all! I'm from DU and have been lurking about here lately. I've always had an interest in astrology, and I enjoy reading Nancy's and Pallas' interpretations over at DU, so I guess it was only a matter of time before I followed one of the links back to here. This is truly an excellent site! Twenty minutes of reading through one of these threads gives me a better understanding of what is really going on with the world than all the time I've ever spent taking in the mind-numbing corporate drivel of CNN (post-Turner) and MSNBC. judi gemini, I think you may be onto something about "Poppy" George H. W. Bush being the real "Emperor" behind his son and the mass disorder in the world that he is stirring up. I've long suspected that G.H.W.B. has never really been what he appears. There's just something about him and his act that seems particularly phony to me, like there is something much more dark and vile lying just beneath the surface. But on the surface, he always seemed to have that elitist, neo-aristocratic chip-on-his-shoulder attitude, like he was expecting everyone to bow down before him and kiss his ring. Maybe Dimson has been his revenge upon the world for some real or imagined slight against him and his beloved family name? (Clinton in 1992?) The truth is probably far more complex, but maybe not too much of a stretch: Plumes rising from Mt. St. Helen's up to 25,000 feet in the sky. Posted by: M. on March 9, 2005 06:11 AMAlthough I know many of you would love to have something juicy about dimson being gay - astrologically I think there is a very slim chance of it. Although he does have Aquarius on the 8th cusp of sex...that can very often be a person who is asexual instead of sexual. Or into unusual sex.. Yeah, there's something wrong with him sexually - Although he may have many friends who are gay, and Think about how he talked up against gay marriage, and created fears about gay people....helped him win the election didn't it. In actuality, with that Mars in wide square to Uranus - this guy has a problem about sexuality - anger -likely somewhat homophobic and he's likely a nasty angry person to be in bed with - wham bam -= hurry up. One other thing. Mars which rules male sexuality, also rules his MC, his status in the world for all to see. If he was gay, with Mars ruling his 10th house cusp....he'd be a flaming gay person and WE"D ALL KNOW IT. It wouldn't be something he could hide. I'll tell you what he is hiding. Capricorn is on his sixth house of military service, and its ruler Dan Rather was right. They're all right about his military service...errrr ... I mean lack of it. Posted by: Pallas18 on March 9, 2005 06:37 AMTravieso, I think there would at first -- and very unfortunately -- be some violence against gays and lesbians by the "Christian" Right, were Bush himself revealed to be gay. That's the big "denial phase" that many of the Right Wing "Christian" Fundamentalists will go through. I do think, however, that a great number of these people will have a crisis of faith and begin to question their beliefs, especially when they've had it drummed into their heads by their pastors and the like so often that Homosexual = Evil. So therefore, Bush = Homosexual = Evil?? Bush, the crusader of justice? Bush, the cowboy who makes terrorists cower? Bush, America's first true Christian Fundamentalist President??? (Actually, Jimmy Carter was the first Christian Fundamentalist to become President, but he's obviously nothing like the crazie we have in office now.) If it ever comes out that Bush is actually gay, the Right Wing Christian faction is going to be feeling very, very sick. A few people have suggested that there might be some sort of mass "falling away" from the Church before the end of this decade, perhaps before Pluto leaves Sagittarius for good. I think Michael Lutein wrote about this. (Pallas, do you remember?) Posted by: NEOBuckeye on March 9, 2005 06:39 AMThank you,Sally, for yet another wonderful article - much to hope for and anticipate as spring approaches and I hope that as the spring flowers break through the ground and bloom in all their glory that some of these current news events like unopened buds burst forth into bloom and let us see their true colors in the light of day. Coming home tonight I found my children cooking dinner while the television droned on in the background - MSNBC Nightly News was on with Brian Williams and he was doing a lead-in to Andrea Mitchell who was doing a report on how Bush has won over the hearts of Americans with his bringing democracy to the Middle East and to the World. she then almost wet her pants while announcing how "Bush's doubters were rethinking their stance against him" and how "his harshest critics have been forced to consider the he may be right after all" .. just as my jaw was dropping to the floor (and I almost dropped the groceries I was carrying) there was Brian Williams announcing that "This Presidency may be the one that sets the standard for all others to follow". I was so mad I just about slammed the television off and went out to walk the dog around the block .. twice! If this is a sample of Bush under a Saturn return ... I'd like to know what a "good time" is for him .. seems he can do nothing wrong! Our local press here jumped right on this report and ran with it all evening as well. How can anything ever change if the public is constantly sold this bill of goods and when will we see some of these "leaders" being held responsible for the wrongs they have done??? Will we ever see them take a fall??? Posted by: Elora on March 9, 2005 06:46 AMHi Buckeye... Would the fundies believe it? I doubt that. Speaking of the Church - what's with the Cardinals trying to get rid of this Pope...first they tried to push him into retirement...now it's that he's sick and he may give up popehood....and as far as I can see, he has no intention of giving up - why should he? It's pope for life. Why are they trying to get rid of him? Posted by: jm on March 9, 2005 09:40 AMElora, Before your jaw hits the ground again or you drag your pooch around the block one more time, please remember that Andrea Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan (or maybe they've been dating a long, long time) and that Brian Williams is the GOP's new go-to guy in the Corporate Media. In fact, there was an article recently (forgive me, but I can't remember where) where Brian Williams said he was a long-standing Republican and greatly enjoyed the reporting on FOX "news". Perhaps you should write your local Editor and inform them of Mr. William's political leanings and obvious bias in his "news" reporting? And then question them as to the continued strength of America if, in fact, BelzeeBush's pResidency is the one to set the standards for all others. A horrible economy, a falling dollar, a war with thousands of innocents killed, our school children some of the most uneducated on the planet? Are these the earmarks of a strong pResident? Patricia Posted by: Patricia on March 9, 2005 02:21 PMhttp://www.bradblog.com/archives/00001243.htm CLINT CURTIS INVESTIGATOR'S 'SUICIDE' CASE REOPENED BY GEORGIA POLICE! "The case of the mysterious suicide of Raymond Lemme of the Florida Inspector General's office was reopened by Valdosta, Georgia police last December shortly after we broke the story of computer programmer Clint Curtis' sworn affidavit charging that he had built a "vote-rigging software prototype" at the request of Rep. Tom Feeney (R-FL)! Furthermore, graphic and disturbing photos from the crime scene -- said in the original police report to have not existed due to a failure in the camera's "flash memory cards" -- have recently been published on the web! Those crime scene photos, which clearly do exist, can be viewed here. WARNING: THE PAGE LINKED ABOVE INCLUDES GRAPHIC MATERIAL! A spokesman from the Valdosta Police Department has confirmed the legitimacy of the photos but has so far failed to explain several inconsistencies that the photos and materials from the supplementary detective reports reveal when compared to the original police report. Supplementary evidence from the reports would seem to indicate that Lemme was not even in Valdosta, Georgia at the time that the motel receipts show that he had checked-in to the room where he was eventually found dead. Furthermore, involvement from the Florida Dept. of Transportation (FDOT) may have lead to the quick re-closing of the case shortly after it was recently re-opened! Lemme was the first official from the FL Inspector General's office to investigate the charges originally made by Curtis' 2001 whistleblower complaint at the FDOT, where he had gone to work after leaving Yang Enterprises, Inc. (YEI) in the wake several disturbing meetings at the software firm with Feeney and YEI's CEO, Mrs. Li-Woan Yang. In Curtis' 2001 complaint to the IG's office, filed along with another FDOT whistleblower, he charged that an illegal Chinese alien was working at and committing espionage out of YEI and that YEI was illegally over-billing FDOT in a multi-million dollar contract. That contract, Curtis charges, was received with assistance from Feeney, who was, at the time of Curtis' original complaint, the Florida Speaker of the House as well as legal counsel and a registered lobbyist for YEI. Feeney had previously been Jeb Bush's running-mate in his original failed bid for Florida governor in 1994. Feeney now sits on the U.S. House Judiciary Committee representing Florida's 24th Congressional district. The Chinese spy reported by Curtis was eventually indicted and pled guilty to espionage charges (see this previous BRAD BLOG report for more details). For their part, YEI was recently found -- in the IG's final report begun by Lemme in 2001 and finally released in February 2005 -- to have billed FDOT for more than $300,000 in "questionable charges" (see this recent BRAD BLOG report for more info on that)...(more) I just don't understand how the entire MSM can perform the way they are in the circumstances the world exists today. It is beyond belief for a rational mind. http://www.daykeeperjournal.com/feature2.shtml Fear and Killing in Haiti snip... Haiti is a nightmare. Congresswoman Maxine Waters (Los Angeles) wrote a letter to Secretary of State Powell (who engineered the coup d’etat), which included: "History will record that this crisis is a direct result of the failed policies of the United States, France, and Canada which worked with the Group of 184, the former members of the Haitian Army and known thugs to carry out last February’s coup d’etat. While I am certain that you would be the last to agree, I believe that the only way to stabilize Haiti is to do so with the return of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, the democratically-elected President of Haiti, until the end of his term in office, with a restoration of assistance for the rebuilding of Haiti’s infrastructure and, at the end of his term, assistance for free and fair elections." Right now "state" violence has been greatly stepped up, in anticipation of demonstrations demanding Aristide’s return at this one-year anniversary of his kidnapping. Yes, people are afraid, and with good reason. They tend to stay in their houses, and much of the country’s life has come to a standstill. However, these descendants of slaves who rebelled and created their own nation in 1804 are truly indomitable. The Haitian chart is set for January 1, 1804, 12:00 p.m. It is a very strong Capricorn, and Capricorn has a hard path, climbing the mountain, but it never gives up. This last year has been a real test for Haitians. And for all of us, it is an example of the chaos which can accompany Uranus in Pisces. Uranus has been transiting Haiti’s Pluto during this time, and is just now completing this transit. Uranus is the wake-up call. Haitians have been awakening, in a new way, to the dark and repressive forces which have been part of Haiti’s history. Neptune has just finished transiting Haiti’s North Node in Aquarius. This is likely to have enhanced the sense of solidarity of the majority of the people, as they have been undergoing this attempted coercion through violence. More... There is talk of a number of military families going to Wash DC to protest... the link I posted upthread is for the meetup in Fayetteville, near Ft. Bragg, NC... I know that the Brits are going to turn out in huge numbers --- they are angry with Phony Tony, and he is in trouble for the May elections... Soc Dems are going to doing exceptionally well, imo. http://www.stopwar.org.uk/ Their march is set for Noon London time. March has been very energized for me personally for at least a decade now --- lots of family stuff in March... I marked my calendar earlier for the 19-21, with the reading Maya gives concerning the shifting of energy --- 3 planets and Ceres stationing... On the 19th when tMerc goes Rx Saturn and Ceres will be in 'station' --- as will tPluto (I believe, may be wrong there, somebody check my Pluto station) Anyway, for lots of reasons, March 19th is HIGH LIGHTED on my calendar... Let's all remember to send lots of light and prayers to these folks on the 19th... And thanks again, Sally, for looking at the chart for the March, and for all you do. Dear Maris: Posted by: Pat C on March 9, 2005 02:56 PMMars square Uranus... sexual indicator? I didn't know that. But I'm a Gemini, a student, right? I know the square can indicate accident prone, right? we know how many times * has fallen on his face literally since he was selected! I always watch the tMars square tUranus myself --- don't like to travel during that time... not that I have the square in my chart, I don't, but others on the road do, and I don't want to get in their way! I do however, watch my activities with machinery, tools... like the lawn mower - I won't cut the grass during a square transit... Uranus rules my chart, so I keep a constant vigilence for accidents... Mars square Uranus - sexual connatation? In *'s natal chart, the one indicator that jumps out at me is his Mars in Virgo, which is usually discreetly delineated as 'priest-like'... "Men with this placement are often so busy repressing their emotions that they may not be very insightful about a woman's wants - or their own." I think assessing one's sexual preference and such is about as difficult as assessing their vocation. But it could also indicate someone who is very discreet about their sexual activities, and careful... probably practice safe sex. I feel the same about *'s sexual activities as I did about Bill Clinton's... I don't care what goes on in their bedroom or the Oval Office sexually... What I care about is how they carry out the duties of the office of President. Of course with *, we have hypocrisy - and incitement to hate and bash Gays. That I do care about. You were asking if John Bolton was S & B; here is a webpage with a link that you can put anyone's name in & it will tell you their affiliations (I tried to post just the link but it wouldn't work, scroll down to where it says this"A Scripted Tool For the Lazy Researcher" ): http://www.conspiracyarchive.com/Commentary/Elite.htm example: Born: 20-Nov-1948
Level of fame: Niche Known as Donald Rumsfeld's man in the State Department, mustachioed John Bolton served as an assistant attorney general during the Reagan administration and assistant secretary of state under George H.W. Bush. Later, he wound up working as a staff lawyer for the GOP. During the 2000 Presidential election quagmire in Florida, Bush campaign strategist James Baker dispatched Bolton to Palm Beach to halt the recount, which he did. Bush tapped Bolton for Under Secretary of State, reporting to Colin Powell. Before Bolton's confirmation hearings, Jesse Helms declared in January 2001: "John Bolton is the kind of man with whom I would want to stand at Armageddon, if it should be my lot to be on hand for what is forecast to be the final battle between good and evil in this world." The Senate confirmed him for the post, despite inconsistencies between views expressed in his testimony and some of his published essays. Unusual for a diplomat, Bolton is perfectly comfortable playing the Bad Cop role. In May 2002, he accused Fidel Castro of having a clandestine biowarfare program, even though his claim was immediately contradicted by American intelligence agencies. In July 2003, he called Kim Jong Il a "tyrannical rogue state leader" (which is true, of course). Wife: Gretchen Smith (aka Gretchen Brainerd)

I believe there are peace marches throughout the country. The previous ones i've helped organize in Chattanooga have been peaceful events for the most part. When Cheney made an appearance here last year we scrambled together a group and heckled him and all the overtly wealthy attending the fundraiser. Cheney took in an astounding amount of money that day. . .and the citizens paid it -- police vigilance as well as closing a major highway so that he could be escorted from airport to engagement. Unbelievable! Let's hope this coming one is as successful as those past. (I've since moved and had no part in planning this particular event.) One thing i DO see that could be troublesome are a few of those march participants who do go over the top with inflamatory rhetoric just to get a reaction. That happened in the Washington Peace March in 1968. Some of my friends were gassed at that one. karen Posted by: farrout on March 9, 2005 04:13 PMBolton needs to tell us what he did with that eight BILLION of OUR money & fork it over... we'll give it to our schools or whatever! But the market sees everyone buying gold so they're opening gold stock markets. Already there are posts saying the gold stocks are not backed by anything. Occasionally there are fall backs, when big gold holders sell and are taking profits and then buy again at the lower price. It would be a good idea IMHO to buy then, like they do. The task for the peace movement—responsible for the huge public demonstrations against a war in Iraq in the days prior to March 19, 2003—is speaking to these concerns as it mobilizes untapped public sentiment against the occupation.
What Democrats are up against in today’s GOP Gene Lyons Many Democrats still don’t grasp what they’re up against in today’s Republican Party. Naïve souls, they prefer to see national politics as a giant PTA meeting, and to comfort themselves with civics text bromides about the virtues of compromise and bipartisanship. Even in the face of the Clinton impeachment and the naked power play that decided the 2000 presidential election, they have trouble comprehending the sheer ruthlessness of the GOP political juggernaut. This is nothing new. Even during FDR’s presidency, Will Rogers joked that he belonged to no organized political party: He was a Democrat. Today, however, the party simply must learn to effectively counter the well-organized army of think-tank, opinion page and cable TV propagandists who parrot the GOP party line, no matter how illogical or preposterous. It's run by Fannie Mae, Hud and the FHA. google Fannie Mae's site. They give you money you never have to pay back as long as you live in the house until you die. Whatever is left over goes to your heirs (probably wouldn't be a lot left over, cause they have a cap of 10% over prime...so if mortgages are 5% now or 6% it could balloon to 16% interest. Also the older you are the more they give you, cause your life expectancy diminishes right? So if you were 70 they give you more mortgage/equity money than if you're 62. Go google Fanie Mae and look for "reverse mortgages". I think especially in this time when the dollar is worth poop, it's a great deal. It's equity money that you dont have to pay back. I heard a fascinating interview last night: "The Federal Reserve Bank The Federal Reserve has for many years no longer backed currency with gold or silver, and as a private corporation it's free to make profits off its transactions and interest charges. In fact, Eggelletion pointed out that part of the U.S.'s national debt is actually owed to the Federal Reserve. This rampaging system has lowered the standard of living for most Americans and robs people of their money through inflation, he stated. The Reserve, which has never been audited, is so powerful that he views it as a "separate shadow government" of America, with Allan Greenspan "riding the back of the tiger." Eggelletion advocates for the US government to nationalize the central bank and restore the constitutional power to issue our own money. But he said that only one Congressman (Ron Paul from Texas) has been brave enough to stand up for this. The rest of Congress lacks the "intestinal fortitude to challenge the economic paradigm," he declared." He said that both A. Lincoln and Kennedy were assassinated for this reason--trying to nationalize the monetary system. He also said that the reason for the Iraq War was to prevent Hussein from going Euro and devastating our economy. That would explain why they all voted for it. Now it seems to that the next World War is in progress already with the European Union. Are we trapped and cornered? We can be destroyed at any time by the Euro. Is the world staying on the dollar to preserve our trade? Are they stringing us along for a big blow, or just keeping us in check? I think we've lost it. I know it's up to the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission, and the rest of the gang. But they might be infighting and losing control. http://www.blackboxvoting.org/ From Black Box Voting: Investigation Update In mid-February, Black Box Voting, together with computer experts and videographers, under the supervision of appropriate officials, proved that a real Diebold system can be hacked. This was not theoretical or a "potential" vulnerability. Votes were hacked on a real system in a real location using the actual setup used on Election Day, Nov. 2, 2004. In October, Black Box Voting published an article on this Web site about remote access into the Diebold system. After examining the Diebold software and related internal e-mails, local security professionals were able to demonstrate a hack into a simulated system. In February, we were allowed to try various hacking techniques into a real election system. To our surprise, the method used in our October simulation did not work. However, another method did work. The hack that did work was unsophisticated enough that many high school students would be able to achieve it. This hack altered the election by 100,000 votes, leaving no trace at all in the central tabulator program. It did not appear in any audit log. The hack could have been executed in the November 2004 election by just one person. Posted by: jm on March 9, 2005 09:10 PMDan Rather’s Long Goodbye: Who Done It? EASTLAND, TEX.—Three days before Dan Rather was to retire from the CBS Evening News on March 9, the man who gave him the suspicious memos that precipitated his departure as anchor sat in a Mexican restaurant here, 126 miles west of Dallas. Former National Guardsman Bill Burkett, 55, has grown a full, white beard since his last face-to-face meeting with Mr. Rather, on Sept. 18, 2004. That day, the CBS anchor interviewed him for three hours at the Crescent Court hotel in Dallas, 10 days after 60 Minutes Wednesday had first presented the memos from Mr. Burkett asserting that George W. Bush had received preferential treatment in the National Guard . Cameras rolling, Mr. Rather had asked Mr. Burkett, his former source—whom he had once promised not to "hang out"—point-blank, if he had misled the network about their provenance. The former National Guardsman, knowing he was writing his own epitaph, said he had. "I looked him in the eye," recalled Mr. Burkett, "and I said, ‘Dan, do you know what you just did to me? Will you attend my funeral?’" And, according to Mr. Burkett, Dan Rather replied: "Will you attend mine? In fact, I want you to read the eulogy." Afterward, said Mr. Burkett, "Dan couldn’t look me in the eye." From Arianna's column on the Bankruptcy Bill linked above: "the Senate shot down amendments that would have made the bill a bit less mean-spirited. They denied proposals that would have made it easier for military veterans, the sick and the elderly to qualify for bankruptcy protection. They even rejected an amendment that would have put a 30 percent ceiling on the interest rates credit card companies can charge. Thirty percent--that's more than Paulie Walnuts charges. But 74 U.S. senators--including John Kerry, clearly thought that wasn't high enough" I'm surprised. Why did even they vote for it? Posted by: Pallas18 on March 10, 2005 12:42 AMWhy did 74 senators vote for that amendment limiting interest to 30 per cent? Because some states limit interest to 21 per cent. There was a good explanation for the vote in Daily Kos' discussion of the bill earlier today. Kerry, Obama, Durbin et al. didn't want to be seen as going over the states that have a lower limit, and they didn't want to be seen as supporting higher interest rates. If anything, the rate ceiling should have been much lower, like around 15 per cent. But I don't think they're going to allow that anytime soon. Why the Dollar is Falling [Posted March 8, 2005] When confronted with complaints about the falling value of the dollar, the U.S. official is said to have responded to his European visitors: "The dollar is our currency, but it's your problem." That was in 1971. The politician to whom this statement is attributed was John Connally, who at that time served as the secretary of the U.S. Treasury. His boss was Richard Nixon, the same President who used a word for the Italian lira which politeness prohibits repeating. Nevertheless, Connally and Nixon made clear how matters were. In the meantime, the Italian lira no longer exists. It has merged into the euro, when the single European currency was established in 1999. The endeavors to create a common currency had begun in the early 1970s, when the Europeans began to construct their own currency systems based on stable exchange rates and off the dollar standard. http://www.mises.org/fullstory.aspx?Id=1759 Posted by: Jo on March 10, 2005 01:56 AM

"I'm with the Bush-Cheney team, and I'm here to stop the count," drawled John Bolton. And those ballots from Miami-Dade were not counted. The euphoria that Bush's European trip marked a conversion on the road to Brussels is fading. For it was Bush himself who decided to reward Bolton with a position where he could continue his crusade as a "convinced Americanist" against the "globalists," especially those at the UN and the EU. " "Bolton made a play to become deputy secretary of state after the 2004 election, but was blocked by Condoleezza Rice, who understood that his love of bureaucratic infighting would have undermined her authority. Dick Cheney privately promised Bolton that if all else failed he would give him a job on his vice presidential staff, but that proved unnecessary when Bush nominated him to the UN post. Rice announced his appointment, symbolically demonstrating that he reports to her. But Bolton has deep support within the White House, and Rice is very much a work-in-progress."
Indian and Chinese banks pulling out of ailing US dollar The extent to which Indian and Chinese banks are cutting their exposure to the ailing US dollar was revealed yesterday in data from the Bank for International Settlements. The Asian central and commercial banks covered in the BIS data held only 67 per cent of their deposits in dollars as of September 2004, down from 81 per cent in the third quarter of 2001, said the Basel-based bank. The data indicate the shift out of the dollar was most evident in India, where dollar holdings fell from 68 per cent to 43 per cent during the three-year period. Chinese banks have reduced their dollar share from 83 per cent to 68 per cent mostly before the third quarter of 2002. The data do not include Japan, which has the world's largest foreign exchange reserves, nor deposits held in countries that do not provide a currency breakdown, such as Singapore and Hong Kong. Only cash and other short-term monetary instruments are counted. The figures come only two weeks after the Bank of Korea said it was reducing the proportion of its dollar reserves. The euro and Japanese yen have been the most popular alternatives. “This . . . adds more evidence to the view that the hegemony of the dollar in the region is declining,” said Tony Norfield, global head of forex strategy at ABN Amro. BIS points out that dollar-denominated deposits have risen in absolute terms, “suggesting, at most, that the currency shift is taking place at the margin,” said report author Patrick McGuire. The waning enthusiasm for dollar assets comes at a time when the US needs to attract $2bn of capital a day to cover its current account deficit. I began to wonder if recent events would lead to a Shiite/Sunni civil war in Lebanon like we are seeing in Iraq. I also wondered if instead of democracy spreading like spring flowers in the Middle East, perhaps Bush has spread a growing civil war between the Islamic World's two factions. Posted by: Pallas18 on March 10, 2005 03:42 AMTwo paragraphs from the 1991 book on GHWB...which I mentioned back a while today, which are just too eerie : The necessity of writing this book became overwhelming in the minds of the authors in the wake of the ghastly slaughter of the Iraq war of January-February 1991. That war was an act of savage and premeditated genocide on the part of Bush, undertaken in connivance with a clique in London which has, in its historical continuity, represented both the worst enemy of the long-term interests of the American people, and the most implacable adversary of the progress of the human species. The authors observed George Bush very carefully as the Gulf crisis and the war unfolded, and had no doubt that his enraged public outbursts constituted real psychotic episodes, indicative of a deranged mental state that was full of ominous portent for humanity. The authors were also horrified by the degree to which their fellow citizens willfully ignored the shocking reality of these public fits. A majority of the American people proved more than willing to lend its support to a despicable enterprise of killing. But with Bush, this is only the beginning of the problem. Bush's family pedigree establishes him as a network asset of Brown Brothers, Harriman, one of the most powerful political forces in the United States during much of the twentieth century, and for many years the largest private bank in the world. It suffices in this context to think of Averell Harriman negotiating during World War II in the name of the United States with Churchill and Stalin, or of the role of Brown Brothers, Harriman partner Robert Lovett in guiding John F. Kennedy's choice of his cabinet, to begin to see the implications of Senator Prescott Bush's post as managing partner of this bank. Brown Brothers, Harriman networks pervade government and the mass media. Again and again in the course of the following pages we will see stories embarrassing to George Bush refused publication, documents embarrassing to Bush suspiciously disappear, and witnesses inculpatory to Bush be overtaken by mysterious and conveniently timed deaths. The few relevant facts which have found their way here and there into the public domain have necessarily been filtered by this gigantic apparatus. This problem has been compounded by the corruption and servility of authors, journalists, news executives and publishers who have functioned more and more as kept advocates for Bush. AND THIS WAS PUBLISHED 14 YEARS AGO.... No wonder Clinton's win caused them to be so ENRAGED that they promised to destroy him. Like walking into a hornet's nest. That was excellent. bhakti, judi gemini, thanks for the welcome! Wow, this country seems to be moving onto shakier and shakier ground with each passing day, doesn't it? Anyone catch Sen. McCain's remarks about the decline of US presence in the Pacific? http://www.estripes.com/article.asp?section=104&article=27630 Sen. John McCain said he has serious concerns about the current and planned U.S. military presence in the Pacific and said operations in Iraq and Afghanistan “may be mortgaging our future.” The comments came as Adm. William J. Fallon, Commander of U.S. Pacific Command and Army Gen. Leon J. LaPorte, Commander of United States Forces Korea, testified before Congress on Tuesday to discuss their operational plans related to the 2006 defense budget. McCain called the Middle East operations “legitimate demands” but said he worries that not enough attention is being paid to the military’s ability to react to China and North Korea, the next “challenges” the U.S. military will face. The Arizona Republican criticized the military for not yet determining if Japan will allow a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier to replace the USS Kitty Hawk when it is decommissioned in 2008, and he said the total number of ships in the region has dropped too quickly in the last several years. -- Wonder how long before China makes a pass at Taiwan? I mean, it's not like we could even put up a fight to save them at this point, though who knows what the Bush-Cheney machine might try. I read that Women and African-Americans are rejecting military recruitment efforts in increasing numbers. Gee, I can't imagine why? This isn't good news for the Bush/GOP Draft efforts, either. When people are consciously deciding NOT to go into the military, that makes them ever more likely to dodge, protest and fight back against any effort to force them in. Also I read that report, Jo, of the report by the civil engineers of the decline of the country's infrastructure. Bridges, roads, damns, railways, you name it. They're decaying in a pretty big way, and we're doing little on the proactive side to repair them. Seems like it's only a matter of time before a major highway bridge gives out during rush hour. Of course, if we hadn't dumped so much money in IRAQ... Oh, yeah. Oil. That's why! Never mind the fact that it's PEAKING... http://www.energybulletin.net/4638.html The peaking of world oil production presents the U.S. and the world with an unprecedented risk management problem. As peaking is approached, liquid fuel prices and price volatility will increase dramatically, and, without timely mitigation, the economic, social, and political costs will be unprecedented. Viable mitigation options exist on both the supply and demand sides, but to have substantial impact, they must be initiated more than a decade in advance of peaking. In 2003, the world consumed just under 80 million barrels per day (MM bpd) of oil. U.S. consumption was almost 20 MM bpd, two-thirds of which was in the transportation sector. The U.S. has a fleet of about 210 million automobiles and light trucks (vans, pick-ups, and SUVs). The average age of U.S. automobiles is nine years. Under normal conditions, replacement of only half the automobile fleet will require 10-15 years. The average age of light trucks is seven years. Under normal conditions, replacement of one-half of the stock of light trucks will require 9-14 years. While significant improvements in fuel efficiency are possible in automobiles and light trucks, any affordable approach to upgrading will be inherently time-consuming, requiring more than a decade to achieve significant overall fuel efficiency improvement. Besides further oil exploration, there are commercial options for increasing world oil supply and for the production of substitute liquid fuels: 1) Improved Oil Recovery (IOR) can marginally increase production from existing reservoirs; one of the largest of the IOR opportunities is Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR), which can help moderate oil production declines from reservoirs that are past their peak production: 2) Heavy oil / oil sands represents a large resource of lower grade oils, now primarily produced in Canada and Venezuela; those resources are capable of significant production increases;. 3) Coal liquefaction is a well-established technique for producing clean substitute fuels from the world’s abundant coal reserves; and finally, 4) Clean substitute fuels can be produced from remotely located natural gas, but exploitation must compete with the world’s growing demand for liquefied natural gas. However, world-scale contributions from these options will require 10-20 years of accelerated effort. --Let me repost that: "However, world-scale contributions from these options will require 10-20 years of accelerated effort." 10-20 years, eh? I think Europe is something like 5 years in now with a mix of wind and some solar. France is putting much of it's faith in Nuclear. China is working on projects with dams and also with nuclear. None of these are "magic bullet" solutions, but on the other hand, where is the US on alternative energy??? Answer: In Iraq. And coming soon to Iran, if Bush, Cheney and Co have their way. Sorry boys, but playtime is about over for absurd GOP/NeoCon dreams of global conquest and rule. America is asking for a reality check, big time. We'd do best to follow the EU and China's lead. Are We in World War IV? Throughout much of the Cold War, people feared above all else a global hot war, the third great one in a century of devastating world wars; and we crept up to it more than once -- most desperately, there can be no doubt, at the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962. For decades, the world was poised for that next world war; the two superpowers with their nuclear arsenals running to thousands of weapons (as they still do), a few hundred of which would have been civilization-busting, many hundreds of which might have been nuclear-winter inducing and life extinguishing; all of them cocked in their silos or loaded in the bomb-bays of Soviet or American planes, or stashed on the submarines that made up the unreachable third leg of the nuclear "tripod" and were primed for almost instantaneous action. World War III, which might have ended it all, could indeed have started, as the U.S. military feared for decades, with those Soviet tanks pouring through the Fulda Gap in Germany, and escalated from there to "theater," and finally intercontinental, ballistic missiles. It would have been a show. The last picture show, you might say. And, let's face it, it didn't happen. Yes, the two superpowers, armed to the teeth and eyeing each other for half a century, oozed aggression, and fought and bled each other in a series of proxy border wars; relatively overtly in Korea, Vietnam, and Afghanistan; more covertly or indirectly in lands ranging from Tibet to Angola. (Yes, yes, in each of those cases, other powerful forces were at work, but certainly the global Cold War was part of the mix.) Nonetheless, over those fifty-plus years -- despite mutual memories of bloody stalemate in Korea, our memories of grim defeat in Vietnam, and Russian memories of the same in Afghanistan -- the most striking aspect of the Cold War was that the emphasis remained, however barely at times, on the "cold," not the "war." It's worth saying more than once, given our present moment and the claims being made: World War III never happened -- or I wouldn't be sitting here on the Internet writing this and you wouldn't be at your computer reading it. Put another way, "the Cold War" was simply an oxymoron that we got incredibly used to; a small, bleak sigh of linguistic relief at what hadn't quite (yet) come to be. More.... by Harvey Wasserman 03/09/05 "Information Clearing House" - - The U.S. Senate's senior Constitutional scholar has correctly equated Bush with Hitler, and the usual attack dogs are howling. But they are wrong, and Americans must now face the harsh realities of an increasingly fascist and totalitarian GOP. Continued. Octogenarian Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia made the equation in the context of Bush's attack on Senate procedures which might slow or halt his on-going attempt to pack the courts with extreme right-wing fanatics. Byrd said Bush's moves to destroy time-honored Senate rules parallel Hitler's ramming fascist legislation through his gutted Reichstag. "Hitler never abandoned the cloak of legality," said Byrd. "He recognized the enormous psychological value of having the law on his side. Instead, he turned the law inside out and made illegality legal." Anti-Defamation League Director Abraham Foxman has played the holocaust card for the Republicans, saying "It is hideous, outrageous and offensive for Senator Byrd to suggest that the Republican Party's tactics could in any way resemble those of Adolph Hitler and the Nazi Party. Before this obscene, gaping hole gets any deeper, it's time we convinced the media to stop digging. As someone once said...and said...and said -- time is not on our side. Storm clouds are gathering on the dashboard of our democracy. We must act, sooner rather than later -- before we are faced with sudden horror like we've never known before. I couldn't agree more, because when you consider the media horror show of the last four years, it could get hairy out there unless we wake up, stand up, and do something about it... It's time we told the media it's either them -- or us. We need to pass them by, boycott their advertisers, protest them -- shake them until their teeth rattle. It's time we realized there is no entity more to blame for the mess we're in nor for the needless loss of life than our shameless and treasonous media. The media is even more obscene than Bush and the glowering, power-mad warmongers who surround him in both his administration and in his Congress. (more) http://207.44.245.159/article8223.htm
By Robert Fisk in Beirut 03/09/05 "The Independent." - - It was a warning. They came in their tens of thousands, Lebanese Shia Muslim families with babies in arms and children in front, walking past my Beirut home. They reminded me of the tens of thousands of Iraqi Shia Muslims who walked with their families to the polls in Iraq, despite the gunfire and the suicide bombers. And now they came from southern Lebanon and the Bekaa to say they rejected America's plans in Lebanon, and wanted - so they claimed - to know who killed Rafiq Hariri, the former prime minister murdered on 14 February, and to reject UN Security Council Resolution 1559 which demands a Syrian withdrawal from Lebanon and the disarmament of the Hizbollah guerrilla movement, and to express their "thanks" to Syria. This was a tall order in Lebanon. But only 100 yards from the Lebanese opposition protests, the half-million - for that was an approachable figure, given Hizbollah's extraordinary organisational abilities - stood for an hour with Lebanese flags, and posed a challenge to President George Bush's project in the Middle East. "America is the source of terrorism", one poster proclaimed. "All our disasters come from America". (more) http://207.44.245.159/article8217.htm Monday 07 March 2005 Iran's security chief, Hassan Rowhani proclaimed in October, 2004 that it was in Iran's best interest for George W. Bush to be re-elected over John Kerry. His comment left American commentators stunned in disbelief. However, it is now clear that Rowhani was right: the Bush administration has done more than any other American leader to advance the interests of Shi'a Islamic political leadership in Iran and indeed, in the rest of the Middle East. Some groups of religious supporters in Iran are beginning to call President Bush "the 13th Imam," an ironic reference to the 12 historical Imams sacred to the branch of Shi'ism dominant in Iran, Iraq and Lebanon. President Bush's support for Shi'ism may be unintentional, to be sure, but there is no doubt about the effects of his administration's policies in boosting Shi'ite power throughout the region. The Stillborn Empire by Patrick J. Buchanan
Just a year ago, in the Irving Kristol Lecture at the annual AEI dinner, columnist Charles Krauthammer rhapsodized about America’s “global dominion” and our having “acquired the largest seeming empire in the history of the world.” We have “overwhelming global power,” said Krauthammer. We are history’s “designated custodians of the international system.” When the Soviet Union fell, “something new was born, something utterly new—a unipolar world dominated by a single superpower unchecked by any rival and with decisive reach in every corner of the globe. This is a staggering new development in history, not seen since the fall of Rome. ... Even Rome is no model for what America is today.”

Injured soldiers evacuated to the U.S. never arrive in the light of day -- and the Pentagon has yet to offer a satisfactory explanation why. By Mark Benjamin 03/08/05 "Salon.com" - - In January 2000, then Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Gen. Henry Shelton told an audience at Harvard that before committing troops, politicians should make sure a war can pass what he called the "Dover test," so named for the Air Force base in Delaware where fallen soldiers' coffins return. Shelton said politicians must weigh military actions against whether the public is "prepared for the sight of our most precious resource coming home in flag-draped caskets." It's widely known that on the eve of the Iraq invasion in 2003, the Bush administration moved to defy the math and enforced a ban on photographs of the caskets arriving at Dover, or at any other military bases. But few realize that it seems to be pursuing the same strategy with the wounded, who are far more numerous. Since 9/11, the Pentagon's Transportation Command has medevaced 24,772 patients from battlefields, mostly from Iraq. But two years after the invasion of Iraq, images of wounded troops arriving in the United States are almost as hard to find as pictures of caskets from Dover. That's because all the transport is done literally in the dark, and in most cases, photos are banned. Conyers speaks about "Jeff Gannon"... “We’re aiming at one piece of information,” Conyers said. “Who in the White House knew that Jeff Gannon was an assumed name, was not a legitimate journalist and was merely a shill for the Administration, for more than two years, nearly three years? “I am surprised and pleased as many members of the media are looking by in amazement as we look at a person who actually has flouted the very basic fundamentals of our society in terms of gaining access into the White House,” he added. Does he think the White House is hiding something? “That’s putting it mildly, my friend,” he quipped. “It’s very hard to get press credentials to go into the White House,” he explained. “As a matter of fact, you have to reapply every time you go there. And he has been doing this for years. Somebody must know who he really is and we want to know who that somebody is.” “We want to trace these bread crumbs of facts to what office, what person or persons in the White House have been letting him get through the very strict investigation that they give press people before the let them come into the White House to talk with the President of the United States,” he continued. “Others are joining in with us because now it’s become clear that agencies of the government are going to stonewall to prevent us from knowing what their relationship with Jeff Gannon really is,” he said. ...and Lindsey Graham
Conyers, Dean of the Congressional Black Caucus, said Graham was clearly referencing slavery. “What Senator Graham was saying,” Conyers told RAW STORY, “if we take it [at] face value it seems very clear that it’s referring to the legacy of slavery and second class citizenship that had been the cause of the civil war itself.” http://www.roryoconnor.org/blog/ Free Speech Impediment David E. Kelley – the Emmy Award-winning creator of such memorable series’ as Picket Fences, Doogie Howser M.D., Ally McBeal, Boston Public, The Practice, and its current spin-off, Boston Legal – is probably the most prolific and successful writer/producer now working in television. Coupled with the fact that he is married to film star Michelle Pfeiffer, Kelley’s talent makes him one of the most influential people in the entertainment world. But apparently even Kelley’s power pales before the might of Disney and the MausHaus. Case in point: the next episode of Boston Legal, to be broadcast Sunday March 13 on the Disney-owned ABC network. AlterNet has acquired both the original and the revised script for this episode from a source who prefers to remain anonymous. The original penned by Kelley focused in large measure on Fox News and its loofah-loving star Bill O’Reilly. The script also featured substantial excerpts from the independent film Outfoxed, which documents how the allegedly “fair and balanced” cable channel acts as a propaganda arm for the Republican Party and other conservative interest groups.

U.S. District Judge Jack B. The Brooklyn judge also found that the plaintiffs could not prove that Agent Orange had caused their illnesses, largely because of a lack of large-scale research. Plaintiffs' lawyers said an appeal was planned. The lawsuit was the first attempt by Vietnamese plaintiffs to seek compensation for the effects of Agent Orange, which is laden with the highly toxic chemical dioxin and has been linked to cancer, diabetes and birth defects among Vietnamese soldiers, civilians and American veterans. Simon Tisdall Guardian In the opinion of many legal experts, the US government broke international law when it waged war on Iraq without explicit UN backing. Unrepentant, it has reserved the right to take similar action again, unilaterally if need be. Despite its hostility to the international criminal court, the US may soon be forced by a UN security council majority to refer war crimes prosecutions in Sudan to the ICC. Diplomats say that would represent a big boost for supranational criminal justice. (more) http://www.suburbanguerrilla.blogspot.com/ CATS AND DOGS, SLEEPING TOGETHER! Well, well, well. The middle fights backs The "Democratic wing of the Democratic Party" may have taken over the Democratic National Committee, but Howard Dean and his supporters haven't exactly purged the party of those who think that being a little more like George W. Bush could help the Democrats return to power. In a new essay, the leaders of the centrist Democratic Leadership Council argue that Democrats must show voters that "any American who believes in security, opportunity, and responsibility has a home in the Democratic Party." And Bruce Reed and Al From say it's not just a matter of talking the talk. When they're not sniping at Dean -- whose new role they dismiss as that of "chief cheerleader for the party" -- Reed and From say that Democrats must show their middle-of-the-road ways by pushing for a muscular foreign policy aimed at making Americans safe. Reed and From also argue that it's time for the Democrats to start winning the culture war by moving to the right on some social issues. "The last two elections were all reflex, all the time -- deflecting Republican charges on same-sex marriage, guns, and abortion," Reed and From write. "The best way to stop having the same old phony debate on cultural issues is to force a real one on issues that matter: strengthening families, helping parents teach kids right from wrong, coupling rights with responsibilities, and asking all Americans to give something back to their country. Americans in the heartland will stop thinking Democrats look down on them once we demonstrate that we honestly understand their concerns. Parents are right to worry about the coarsening of the culture, and about needing more time with their children." Democrats in Congress are getting the move-to-the-middle message, and it's not just the much-villified Joseph Lieberman. In a speech this week, Hillary Clinton spoke out against sex and violence in video games and other entertainment marketed to kids, then joined Lieberman and Republican Sens. Oh I believe the name Negroponte belongs in the NYT's article all right. Death squads are his speciality. That article is about the most pathetic piece of journalism I have read in some time... It added nothing to the story or information we haven't already had, with the exception of "Negroponte" and his name was dropped and that was that. No wonder Jim/Jeff can get in the WH press room... you don't have to be a journalist these days... just have access to a newspaper. Posted by: Jo on March 11, 2005 08:03 PM
Scroll down on the page- it has pictures: Not everyone loves Condi. Outside [Foreign Secretary Luis Ernesto] Derbez's office, a small group of anti-U.S. protesters hurled tomatoes at a photo of Rice, then unsuccessfully targeted a car with her inside as it pulled away. Condi, I'm sure parents are so proud! Posted by: abilene on March 11, 2005 08:21 PMExcuse me that should be: Condi, I'm sure your parents are so proud. Posted by: abilene on March 11, 2005 08:23 PMThe White House has its propaganda machine cranking out the temporary checkpoint in all the newspapers. Here's a Turkish account that says Negroponte was going to the airport to have a dinner meeting with a ground commander. 'Scuse me! Worse place in the world for good food, right? Seriously, that's one of the stories. Seems Negroponte was to go by helicopter, but it was busy, so at last minute the extra checkpoints were set up (one 700 yards from the airport). Course, Negroponte FLEW by copter BACK TO THE GREEN COMPOUND after dinner. http://www.turkishpress.com/news.asp?id=38449 An exclusive on Telegiornale 1 (TV News on RAI 1) showed this evening images of the car, a gray metallic Toyota, in which Giuliana Sgrena and Calipari were traveling to Baghdad when they encountered fire from U.S. soldiers. In the segment, you see two bullet holes in the windshield on the side of the driver; the rear window is completely smashed as is the glass on the passenger side. Those who have seen the other images, said Clemente Mimun in a direct from TG 1, affirm that the auto was struck by a dozen projectiles, of which there is a trace on the carpeting in the interior of the car. The left front tire is flat. "The street that we were traveling when we were hit was an alternate route, not the road where there usually are attacks", the journalist from Manifest said in an interview on Ballaro'. She recalled, "it was considered a zone under absolute control of the Americans, so much so that there were tanks. However", she added, "we didn't feel safe. So when the driver told us that we were only 700 meters from the airport, this reassured us because I knew that the airport was secure. Therefore, we did everything to arrive there as quickly as possible." Ms. Sgrena then reasserted that the auto was traveling "at a normal speed, slow, also because right at that point there was a curve." http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/3/8/185452/9893 Photos of the car http://www.repubblica.it/2003/e/gallerie/cronaca/autosgrena/autosgrena.html So, the front, engine --- appears to be intact, not 'shot through' as US military claimed. The tire was shot through, so the car obviously stopped, why shoot the windows out? Unless you intend to kill the occupants? Elementary, my dear Watson. "It's Friday, dump that story... they'll buy it. If they see it." Morgana, Joanna, I am really conflicted about my sister. Love her dearly, but can't talk to her... not about anything outside our Dad and grandchildren. She's coming to visit the first of April... first time I've seen her since our Mom passed three years ago. I will be sick from the stress by the time she leaves, I am sure... So, brought the grands to the woods for a long weekend... they found my marbles (I thought I had lost them!) and we're all busy now playing marbles... Pallas, thanks for the gold update. Mike and Abilene, Kudos to you both for making those elected accountable... we're going to have to hold their feet to the fire. Meanwhile, I am going to walk in the woods and play in the treehouse this weekend. The trees are budding, daffodils are blooming along with the forsythia... and we restocked the doublestuff oreos... (the eight year old reminds me that a party is not a party without pickles, so one last run, and we're set!) Happy Weekend! Namaste Posted by: Jo on March 11, 2005 09:10 PMSo, Jo, for the rest of us who have been accused of "losing our marbles", where did you find yours? ba-da-bum! :-) Posted by: Jonathan on March 11, 2005 09:28 PMI have often thought of Caligula in association with the pResident, but the younger one, not DaddyBush. I don't know, wv, but I see the point of Reid and other Democrats (which doesn't mean I agree with Reid's vote on bankruptcy law). There are an awful lot of people who want to make sure they have trustworthy leaders with good values who CAN keep us safe. It's understandable after 9/11. I have read books about the Jihad platform and it's been going on in the form of bombing U.S. embassies and similar places since the early 70s. I know they have valid reasons to dislike us and want us out of their lives, and, I don't know what to think about the theory that 9/11 was engineered by the U.S., but it's not like there wasn't a precidence set before 9/11. I also thought Reid made a good point when he stated that we have to concentrate on real issues and concerns, not manufactured ones. In that way, we can win over moderates who will see that the Rush Limbaugh hyperbole about Liberals is just not real(as well as the lies the people currently attacking the AARP as a liberal organization). Jo, I feel for you in your situation with your sister and I hope this doesn't come off as too much of a lecture, but I'd like to say a few things. Seek common ground, and maybe find some real humor or meaningful things to share together. Make up your mind that NOTHING is important enough to disturb your peace of mind. And if that doesn't work, avoid her!!!! But humor works wonderfully. I used to watch my mom use it and she was just a master. She'd make faces towards someone, like a little kid, when they weren't looking (or give them the finger) and then when they turned around, she's just agree with them. She would crack me and my aunt up. It was better than confrontation. But she was great at doing that with humor, too. People never knew what hit them, she could be so disarming. It's a good spiritual practice, too. Make up your mind to not engage. Meanwhile, enoy Spring! You are very lucky to live in such a beautiful place and have children to play with. That's what's important in life. So, choose your disagreements VERY carefully and if there is something serious to discuss, think about it and then do it quietly, honestly, respectfully, and with friendliness, humor and compassion if at all possible. But sometimes it's better to avoid. Good luck, Jo, my sister was a democrat but voted for Bush because he keeps us "safe." We can talk about everything but politics although she is opposed to changes in social security, bankruptcy, aid to the poor, etc. It's all I can do to keep from screaming "you voted for him, I didn't." I'm heartsick about it. Posted by: Teresa on March 12, 2005 12:03 AM
In case you are unaware Sally has been hacked again, and has no way of getting to the site or gosh. I hope you see how much you add to our little world Jo, because we all feel for you about your sister situation. I don't have any sisters, just 3 brothers, and I've kinda been all alone in my life. My mom spent my childhood drugged out, trying, but you know the 70's-have a valium- mentality. My daughter is terrific, but 20, and I want her to have HER life, whatever she decides that will be. So....., I hope you know that you are lucky to have a sister, even if you don't share political views. Because you do still share your history, in only the ways that a woman can feel & relate to. Please forgive any "lecturing mentality" I know this sounds like because I really just want you to know we're all thinking of you & trying to ease some of the difficulty. Hugs, flowers, love, good food, music, and all the best to you during her stay. Posted by: Peg on March 12, 2005 01:07 AMwv, thanks for telling us. Does this cost Sally money? I'm referring to several posts about the Bush daughters. Some were speculating that probably Jenna but possibly also Barbara had been sexually abused by their father, George. Someone also wondered if maybe they had been abused by their grandfather, GHW Bush, since he has been suspected of being a pedophile. Youngsters who have been abused often show signs of abuse. They may become depressed or suicidal. Often they act out and engage in sexually explicit behavior. I've seen several photos of Jenna over at the DU which were very promiscuous. These were "bar photos" where she had been drinking heavily, and acting out in the bar. Later, she was laying out on the sidewalk, too drunk to walk. Her short skirt was completely pulled up. Her legs were spread out (which is a very strange way to lay if you are drunk -- you would almost flop over to the side instead) with the panties just barely covering her private parts. Both girls seem to engage in a lot of drunken and embarrassing behavior towards their father. They've probably been told many times to quit drinking out in public, but they keep repeating it. Jenna is most probably an alcoholic/substance abuser. Of course, a lot of this could be due to the dysfunctional home with an active alcoholic -- their dad. Laura seems to fit the Co-dependent, enabling wife. Her own personality seems to have been sandpapered off. All that's left is a shell of a person. Her frozen smile, her empty-headed statements and mannerisms all show she is a typical Al-Anon wife. If she knew about the abuse, she probably shut it out completely from herself, because co-dependent wives are frozen in their own behaviours. I'm not a psychologist, but I've read plenty about the family disease of alcoholism. Judging from what I've read, this family fits the pattern. I've seen photos of the other Bush children, and Jeb's daughter (who is a prescription drug addict) who looks like she is in so much pain. The other kids seem to be into criminal behavior too. It would not surprise me if Grandfather was an abuser. Alcoholism counselors say that the one who stands the best chance to get help is Laura. Hard to tell, but chances are she won't get help. The disease itself has a very low remission rate: out of 10 alcoholics, 9 will die from the disease. Too bad. Too bad for the rest of us that they're in the White House. Posted by: Cliss on March 12, 2005 06:19 AMSally, Couple of words about security. You can download free a program that will remove spyware from your system. Lavasoft Ad-aware is available free at Download.com (a reputable website, been around for years, no virus here). You can view info at Lavasoft's website... a Swiss firm developed the spyware removal program. You can get a 'sentry' at the gate, in other words, it will guard against entry of spyware, by paying for the program and installing the embellished version. See http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ Here's a link to news about a recent malware that really messes up a system. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/03/11/alternative_slimeware/ I have Norton Systemworks on my computer because I have always thought Norton to be the best. My daughter, who is computer savvy tells me it slows down the system... and she prefers McAfee, which has apparently souped up their system in the past year. I had it temporarily when we got Dell year before last (yuckie... prefer Tiger parts and building by own tower!) and I didn't like it at all, but daughter says it is improved and good. I use Norton's firewall (again, daughter says it slows system down, but I'm super careful, don't mind slow... really don't like 'crash') and I back up my journals and genealogy files. This Christmas I asked for and got an external hard drive that backs up the system continuously, for about $89. Norton systemworks has a "go back" feature --- every time you boot up it captures the image of your system, so if you crash, it can reformat at last image point. There's a lot of virus and spyware out there, so if you use your system for storing your writing or important documents, accounting and otherwise, you really need to BACKUP. On floppies or CDs... or something. You can always reformat the hard drive if you get too virus infected, but you will lose everything, and you have to reinstall all your programs. I don't mean to insult anyone's intelligence... most of you are computer-friendly, just want to give you some info you might not have. He's no longer following Jesus, he's calmed down somewhat with his multimillions, but our paths seldom cross. We have occasional cordial phone conversations, and sometimes I feel a flicker of affection. WOW - a hard drive. That's expensive. And to rebuild from scratch. I think I'd sit down and cry. I also had McAfee and Lavaware but found they screwed up my computer so I gave them up.. And even Norton which is supposed to be so wonderful wasn't...it let viruses in. Before Sally got disconnected she told me Morgana is next up writing a column , and then I am writing a similar column to Morgana's - Who will we send it to, to get posted? Posted by: Pallas18 on March 12, 2005 05:40 PMOuch, Sally! I'm sorry to hear about your computer. There are few things more annoying in the online world than people who have nothing better to do with their time than cause others to waste theirs and spend money to fix the damage. Hackers and virus makers are the worst! I know you won't be able to read this for awhile, but for Nancy or anyone who is able to speak with Sally, or for anyone in general who is concerned about their computer security online, I highly recommend if you have a DSL/Cable connection to skip the Firewall software and buy a good Router. A Router acts as a firewall, but is infinitely more secure, much lower maintennance and a lot less trouble than any firewall software you can install on your computer. A Router will serve as the "gateway" between your computer and the Internet, and is the only computer presence that people can "see" on the Internet. This means that anyone looking for trouble and trying to hack attack your computer would just get your router instead, which has no operating system to hack or infect with viruses! The Router will block out port scans and hack attempts to your computer, while allowing you to surf the Internet without any hitches. Additionally, it's also quite useful to have a Router if you have more than one computer and you want to share Internet access between them without paying your Internet Provider more money. As I mentioned above, the Router is the only "computer" that connects with the Internet, so even your ISP can't tell any differently. They are very reasonably priced as well. You can buy a decent Router at regular price between $30 and $50 -- for about as much money as you would spend on Norton or McAfee firewall software. I bought and installed one in my home because we had two computers and often both in use at the same time. Naturally, the Cable company wanted to charge us an extra $10 for the additional IP Adress in use on the other computer. I did some research, however, and found out that buying a Router would let us hold onto that $10. That was about 5 years ago. Today we have 5 computers, and not a single port scan or hack attack has penetrated any of them. (It's fun going to the GRC.com Shields Up website and getting a total "stealth" rating!) We still use virus software though, because the router doesn't filter those out of e-mails and downloaded files. In case you are interested, below is the link to the LinkSYS router I bought from RadioShack. I'm sure there are others that do the job equally as well. From 'Gook' to 'Raghead' "...Mr. Delgado's background is unusual. He is an American citizen, but because his father was in the diplomatic corps, he grew up overseas. He spent eight years in Egypt, speaks Arabic and knows a great deal about the various cultures of the Middle East. He wasn't happy when, even before his unit left the states, a top officer made wisecracks about the soldiers heading off to Iraq to kill some ragheads and burn some turbans. "He laughed," Mr. Delgado said, "and everybody in the unit laughed with him." The officer's comment was a harbinger of the gratuitous violence that, according to Mr. Delgado, is routinely inflicted by American soldiers on ordinary Iraqis. He said: "Guys in my unit, particularly the younger guys, would drive by in their Humvee and shatter bottles over the heads of Iraqi civilians passing by. They'd keep a bunch of empty Coke bottles in the Humvee to break over people's heads." http://www.nytimes.com/2005/05/02/opinion/02herbert.html?ex=1115697600&en=145c406a42c43a77&ei=5070 Posted by: Jo on May 3, 2005 01:10 PMhttp://www.trannyextasy.org/just-adult-movies/ I agree with you .
