Through a Glass, Darkly By Isabelle Ghaneh

Iran and Syria, two for the price of one. And what about Israel, does that make a three ring circus or what? How does that saying go, the enemy of my enemy is my friend? Well I think they have that expression in the Middle East, don’t you?

I thought it would be enlightening to look at the Solar Returns for all three countries listed above, and I got the data from many sources, by checking and cross checking, including the Astrological Lodge of Great Britain, the CIA’s website, etc. I can do a Solar Return for Israel since I have an exact time of it’s incorporation as a country, it’s birth as it were. The Solar Return, I find, tells us a lot about the year to come, and since Israel’s begins in just about 3 months or less, I think it is a pretty accurate way to predict how the future for this year will unfold.

Iran’s time is of course somewhat suspect since I am relying on the time of the announcement of the new Islamic Republic over state radio, still it will have to do, and it is better then nothing, for the Moon and the planets will be accurate. I would not count as much on the ascendant, etc. except as a good reference point. Syria’s time is the most suspect of all, since I need to use midnight as it’s incorporation time since the day itself begins then and I have no other time to go by. Still it lets us know the same as for Iran, and that is a start.

For Israel, (May 14, 1948, 4:00 pm, Tel Aviv) Mars and Uranus are conjunct that’s the first thing I see and in Pisces, a sign of sorrow. They are located in the 7th house of one’s open enemies since the 18 degree Leo ascendant puts them there and not in the 8th house, although they are only 2 degrees away from the 8th house cusp, so it is a question mark as to where they are going to impact the most. Certainly the 8th house is drawn into the equation. Israel may very aggressively go after anyone or anything they consider to be a threat to themselves and their citizens.

Neptune is conjunct the 7th house cusp exactly and directly opposite the ascendant. I think Israel is very confused right now over who they are and what kind of country they hope to be. They may also not be able to tell who their friends or enemies are in any real concise clear way.

The Moon is at 1 degree of Leo, emphasizing the Leo ascendant and not far away from being conjunct to Saturn. When Saturn moves on later this summer in mid-July from Cancer into Leo that may be a time we see Arial Sharon leave the scene of Israeli politics.

One last thing, the Sun is in the 10th house and again this underscores the Leo ascendant and Leo Moon. Sun in the 10th house of how others view us, coupled with the other Leo emphasis, may proclaim Israel as very egocentric at this time, considering itself above all others and feeling very threatened. That is a common theme I am picking up in all these three charts, each country feels threatened and each country feels the need to defend itself against any and all comers.

Not a good place to be in spiritually or physically. With natal Pluto and Saturn conjunct the SR ascendant, that may just become a reality, and may express itself both outwardly and inwardly, either by Israel striking out or by being attacked themselves.

Now that we are moving on to Iran, (April 1, 1979, 3:00 pm, Tehran) with the timing suspect, nevertheless the SR ascendant is in Scorpio at 17 degrees and that is not the best place to have an ascendant in this turbulent time. The Moon is in Sag and conjunct Pluto the ruler of the ascendant, need I say more? Considering the fact that this is an exact conjunction at 24 degrees each, even if the time is off the Moon and Pluto do connect this day, and will for the year that the charts energy manifests itself.

Jupiter is opposite the Sun, Mercury and Venus perhaps showing the grandiose miscalculations that may be being developed by the Iranian authorities, and its bellicosity at this time. With natal Uranus on the SR ascendant I wouldn’t think that was a good idea, not for them, not for the world.

Could Iran blow up this year? It’s possible, either internally or externally. This is one powerhouse of a chart for the year to come, which starts, Solar Return timing, in about a month or so.

Now on to Syria (April 17, 1946, midnight, Damascus). Syria’s SR chart looks the least “busy”. It has the least powerful blasting aspects as the other two described above previously. Its ascendant, again using the 12 midnight time for the beginning of the day of its Independence is 26 degrees of Taurus, which is conjunct the fixed star Caput Algol, the most malevolent star in the heavens, the one heralding beheading. This placement can cause violence to be expressed within us toward someone else, or be seen as being expressed by someone toward us. But again this is not by any means as accurate a time as the other two charts so I don’t put all that much credence to it.

The Moon though is at 21 Cancer so it is likely this is the correct placement. It is conjunct Saturn and the theme of self protection, home, family, country and defense rings through this chart like the previous two. Perhaps, as in Israel, the titular head of the country may be changed.

Natal Mars at 27 degrees of Cancer is brought into the mix, and with Saturn dampening down the more militant aspects and the Moon increasing the emotionality of this aspect it is hard to say how it will play out; Mars and Saturn together can in certain circumstances due to sign and house and other aspects either tamp down anger or build it up and then outward. It can have an effect of slowing or repressing the anger and usually that is the case, but if it is coupled with a ‘trigger’ that can make it all the more potent for the slow structuring and refusal to yield quality it can bring to an individual, or country.

Out of all the charts Iran’s is the worst; in addition to all the above difficult and explosive aspects they also must contend with natal Mars and Mercury squaring SR Pluto, a transit that lasts a long time, since Pluto is so slow moving.

In the murkiness that is the Middle East right now and with all the volatile aspects going on both in our own and other countries, we may be in for a few tsunamis of the world political stage, one way or another.

I'm wondering if anyone can tell who is holding the high card here, and who is bluffing the most.

Posted by: jm on February 19, 2005 07:10 AM

That is certainly the question isn't it JM. I think Iran/Syria is bluffing, however I don't think it's a good idea to go after them right now. (I don't think it would ever be a good idea.) It all seemed so staged didn't it? The guy is killed (which all agree Syria would not benefit and in fact it would have been a preposterous moved on their part) immediately the US Ambassador is recalled amid high drama, and the drum beat of war (same Iraqi words different country) words starts. It was just so pat, too pat.

Posted by: Sally on February 19, 2005 08:01 AM

Yes, Sally, absolutely yes. So staged. What a game. What a ride we're on. I think what Isabelle said about Sharon leaving is fascinating. That should throw a curve into the proceedings, if it comes about. I just heard an interview with an Israeli peace activist who said that there are many people ready and getting more and more anxious for peace. They would love to see the back of Sharon. She said Israel was created by leftists and now is ruled by the far right. And there is so much potential in the country being wasted.
I remember you said there was a 50/50 chance of war in Iran. But I agree with you...bad move.

Getting Sharon out of Israel government is as wishful a thought as getting * out of USA gov’t.

Isabelle, thank you for presenting comparisons of SR charts for these nations... and for commenting on them individually. I am particularly interested in the Saturn aspects you draw attention to... I found this link a few days ago that speaks to the karma aspects of Saturn ... and taking responsibility (or not). I am intrigued by words and have always read ‘responsibility’ as the ability (or lack thereof) to respond... the author of this piece does also... so, we have more to look at with Saturn (don’t we always) besides the fear and insecurity, or threat to security.

http://www.psychicsahar.com/artman/publish/article_269.shtml

Pallas 18, I want to thank you for your comments last thread on Negroponte and the idea that he is going to be a ‘control’ over *... I heard there were numerous others in the running for this appointment, but they refused. I also heard, but don’t believe, that Poppy put forward a name and it was rejected by *, who appointed JDP instead. Well, Poppy and JDP are Buds... so, go figure! I saw a pic online, which I had the link... of JDP and * ... * was reaching out his hand, moving away from the podium as JDP was moving forward (apparently to speak after * made the announcement of his appointment). JDP’s person seemed to dwarf * — perhaps the camera
angle... but I got the ‘feeling’ that JDP does exactly that... we all know how bothered * gets when someone mentions “your father would have...” — well, maybe a little karma for * — but h*&^ for the rest of us, I’m sure. Anyway, I highly recommend your comments to anyone who has not read them, and to Sally’s and Nancy’s as well.

Isabelle, I will read your article again... and look some more at the aspects. Everyone in that region is being manipulated and subjected to violence — at the hand of a few driven to seek power. There is news out today that the Pentagon has destroyed some pics of mock execution and released more classified papers on abuse in Iraq and elsewhere. None of us are safe or secure, unless we all are.

Light... we must send light... and fight... fight this appointment whether we win or not...

Is it a lost cause? How do we deal with idiots like these...

Among the believers
At the Conservative Political Action Conference, where rabid Bush-worshippers learn that liberals hate America and that we really did find WMD in Iraq.

- - - - - - - - - - - -
By Michelle Goldberg

Feb. 19, 2005 | WASHINGTON -- It's a good thing I went to the Conservative Political Action Conference this year. Otherwise I never would have known that, despite the findings of the authoritative David Kay report and every reputable media outlet on earth, the United States actually discovered weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, vindicating all of George W. Bush's pre-war predictions. The revelation came not from some crank at Free Republic or hustler from Talon News, but from a congressman surrounded by men from the highest echelons of American government. No wonder the attendees all seemed to believe him.

The crowd at CPAC's Thursday night banquet, held at D.C.'s Ronald Reagan Building, was full of right-wing stars. Among those seated at the long presidential table at the head of the room were Henry Hyde, chairman of the House International Relations Committee, Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback, Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman, Dore Gold, foreign policy advisor to former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and NRA president Kayne Robinson. Vice President Dick Cheney, a regular CPAC speaker, gave the keynote address. California Rep. Chris Cox had the honor of introducing him, and he took the opportunity to mock the Democrats whose hatred of America led them to get Iraq so horribly wrong.

"America's Operation Iraqi Freedom is still producing shock and awe, this time among the blame-America-first crowd," he crowed. Then he said, "We continue to discover biological and chemical weapons and facilities to make them inside Iraq." Apparently, most of the hundreds of people in attendance already knew about these remarkable, hitherto-unreported discoveries, because no one gasped at this startling revelation.

And why would they? Like comrades celebrating the success of Mao's Great Leap Forward, attendees at CPAC, the oldest and largest right-wing conference in the country, invest their leaders with the power to defy mere reality through force of insistent rhetoric. The triumphant recent election is all the proof they need that everything George W. Bush says is true. Sure, there's skepticism of the president's wonder-working power among some of the old movement hands -- including the leaders of the American Conservative Union, which puts CPAC on. For much of the rank and file, though, the thousands of blue-blazered students and local activists who come to CPAC each year to celebrate the vφlkisch virtues of nationalism, capitalism and heterosexuality, Bush is truth. They don rhinestone W brooches and buy mouse pads, posters and T-shirts showing the president as a kind of beefcake Uncle Sam, with flowing white hair and bulging muscles threatening to rend his red, white and blue garments.

It's not only liberals who have noticed that Bush's most committed followers are caught up in the fact-filtering force field of a personality cult. In January, Paul Craig Roberts, assistant secretary of the treasury during the Reagan administration and associate editor of the Wall Street Journal's far-right editorial page, published a damning column in the progressive Z Magazine about fascist tendencies in the conservative movement. "In the ranks of the new conservatives, however, I see and experience much hate. It comes to me in violently worded, ignorant and irrational emails from self-professed conservatives who literally worship George Bush," he wrote. "Even Christians have fallen into idolatry. There appears to be a large number of Americans who are prepared to kill anyone for George Bush … Like Brownshirts, the new conservatives take personally any criticism of their leader and his policies. To be a critic is to be an enemy."

This kind of ground-level devotion was key to the volunteer-driven get-out-the-vote campaign, and the administration sent important emissaries to convey the president's gratitude. Although the Republicans always have high-powered representatives at CPAC, this year the lineup at the three-day conference is particularly impressive. On the first day alone, attendees heard from Karl Rove and Sen. Rick Santorum as well as Cheney. Tonight, there will be a speech by Zell Miller, the former Democratic senator who delivered the vein-popping keynote address at this year's Republican National Convention. He'll be delivering a "Courage Under Fire" award to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. Tomorrow, we'll hear from Republican National Committee chair Ken Mehlman and Newt Gingrich.

Neither Cheney nor Rove said anything very interesting. As he does most years, the vice president essentially rehashed Bush's State of the Union, although he mercifully omitted any reference to the Federal Marriage Amendment. Rove's speech was about the growth of the right from "a small principled opposition" to "a broad and inclusive movement that is self-assured, confident and optimistic, and forward leading, and most important of all, dominant in American politics today."

Their mere presence was more significant than their words, putting the White House imprimatur on an event that featured, in addition to the Swift Boat Veterans, venomous CPAC regulars like Ann Coulter, Oliver North and Michelle "In Defense of Internment" Malkin. It was yet more evidence that this administration puts little distance between itself and the most reactionary forces in the Republican Party.

The people who come to CPAC range from very conservative to proto-fascist. Within that grouping, though, are a host of different concerns. Some of CPACers hate taxes and love guns but are basically social libertarians. Others, like the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property, a far-right Catholic outfit, support the criminalization of homosexuality and oppose legalized birth control. A few have very specific grievances, like the man who stood after Santorum's talk to rant about judges who discriminate against fathers during custody disputes and women who won't let their ex-husbands see their children more than twice a month.

In his speech, Santorum tried to unite the various constituencies behind the anti-gay marriage amendment with the Orwellian argument that such an amendment is actually necessary to keep government out of people's private lives.

"I know there are some people who may be economic conservatives and not consider themselves cultural conservatives," he said. Addressing himself to them, he tried to explain how banning gay marriage is crucial to laissez-faire governing. "Think about those communities where marriage does not exist," he said, invoking their poverty and illegitimacy. "What you see is a model of what life would look like in a country that has fathers and mothers not wedded together in strong relationships to raise children." In poor neighborhoods, he said, there's a strong government presence, "because if Mom and Dad isn't there to raise the child, someone else has to bridge the gap, and that someone else is always the government."

Santorum didn't quite explain how proscribing gay unions would strengthen families in poor communities. The assumption seemed to be that homosexuality would make a travesty of matrimony. Like a suburban block where undesirables insist on moving in, its worth would go down. "If we deconstruct marriage in society, if we say marriage is whatever you want it to be, then marriage loses its intrinsic value," he said.

"I'm talking at a very protective level about what is important to our society if we are to be a free people," he said. "The less virtue we have in our society, the more the need for government to control our lives, to govern our lives." In other words, government needs to enforce virtue in order to keep government out of our lives.

This argument seemed to make sense to his audience.

Who needs logic when you've got power?

by that very pious CIA full of Jesus obeying rotten so called self righteous rights.Even 1926

for a major event in Iran.

Gosh this is a fabulous site. The insights just keep coming and coming. Thanks Isabelle and Sally.
It occurs to me that all this report-on-your-neighbor stuff, ala patriot act/intelligence czar etc. coming from the top down for nefarious and controlling purposes, is being ably counteracted by our own quiet truthtelling, independent minded, report-on-your-neighbor actions, bubbling from the bottom up. No matter what they try to pull these days, it is being exposed almost instantaneously, and the simmer will soon reach boiling point. Its like washing a dirty oven pan - the gook appears to get worse, rises to the top, and then with a little bit more scrubbing, the pan is clean.
It is the quintessential good vs evil struggle right before our eyes - and we are living it in this lifetime.

Keep your motives and hearts pure and the truth will win. In the meantime, remember, the lessons gained through struggle and effort are why we are all now here.

PS: I've always thought that the term 'czar' as a position title had an ugly feel to it. Didn't it come into being during Reagan days? Its all about control and power - they're experts at subliminal wording.

Very sad that, after all is said and done...the coups, the lies, the outright thievery and Treason..."sex" will probably be what finally brings these boys to their knees. Says so much more about us than them. But in that vein...

Republicans & Sex: I've counted many "working girls" among my friends, and a number were regulars at the Bohemian Grove [in addition to having the usual judges, CEOs, politicians, etc., in their books]. To a woman they said that "democrats are boring and predictable but fun" and "republicans are sick, twisted, and scary." Homoeroticism was the least shocking aspect of their stories, though a major running theme in the repigs fantasies.

Dubya & Sex: From the moment I first saw dubya with laura, I've believed that, with her, he's into "mean sex." I'm convinced he likes to hurt her, though nothing which would be considered "extreme" -- something akin to rape fantasies in his head, never ackknowledged to her.

Always thought he had a fetish for black women, and that belief intensified when two black women had the fallopians to try to charge dubya with rape. Both died "mysteriously" before the cases got to court.

Then condi accidentally referred to him as her "husband" -- twice -- in public. That pretty much clinched it. She's never been married. She's never "been used to" calling anyone "husband." In public, anyway. Behind closed doors? No one can convince me there's not something going on there...

But this is the one that shocked me [for a nanosecond]. The moment I first saw the daughters and dubya together, many years ago, I KNEW from her body language and the look in her eyes that dubya had molested her. I believe the other daughter was "protected" from him in some way, and was not [as badly?] abused. And I think this also explains the "unusual dynamics" between these twins.

On an astrological note, I have e'er been curious as to what Barbara's and dubya's charts might reveal regarding their relationship. Has anyone here ever looked at their basics?

These men are not "gay" and they are not "about sex" [though their proclivities and activities might make it easy to believe otherwise]. Their "homosexual activity" is just extreme narcissism, and has more in common with a frenzied winning football team circle jerk than with sex. They do NOT consider themselves "fags". They consider themselves gods.

But, mark my words, when they come crashing down, in the incredibly warped and small minds of the average American, their murder and mayhem and lies and thievery and Treason will be attributed to their being "gay."

Fortunately, I've known gay men [and lesbians] all my life. Unfortunately, I've known a great number of sadistic perverts. These men are sadistic perverts, and they shwing for power, not ripped studs [boygasms are simply a release].

vcz - "they consider themselves gods" behavior is right in line with other Roman Empire holdover traits - war, domination, arrogance, gladiators in the ring (football), powersex. And the political manipulation of christ teachings.

That's "THE CEDARS"!!

I think I just read that M Blackwell was arrested for some sex oriented crime! Where did I see that? It was a side bar to something else I was looking at ( right side) & I clicked on it thinking it was KEN BLACKWELL of Ohio fame. It wasn't so I dismissed it...........................
I will try to back track my memory.........
Meanwhile I hope Madsen has a black belt & 12 body guards with him at all times!!!!!!!!!! This is just too fantastic......but given the unreality of everything else; totally believable!

Jeanie 9:08 PM.....I agree.

Predatory sex has always been associated with power lust. I think the sexual malfuction is part of why they seek power to such a degree. Obssession takes over as satisfaction eludes them, and ultimately leads them to their demise.

There was an experiment done with conservatives and liberals watching violence and they found different reactions in the brains of each type. Apparently it is in the brain chemistry and hormones. Oxytocin is the bonding, feelgood hormone, and I suspect right wingers have less.

The extreme cruel and violent leaders are surely wired that way and can't stop themselves. But I also think self destruction is wired with it.

BTW, Laura Bush has a very dark, foreboding chart. I think she is a major psychological, behind the scenes player.

Pisces, Neptune, and the 12th house is associated with suffering and compassion, but sometimes it works out that the native inflicts the suffering, hence the sadist.

In Bush, I think, we have some sadistic domination, master, slave themes.

vcz,
You are certainly right about the sexual perversion of this lot of demented criminals ~ And you are probably on the right track about the majority of the major players.
I have always “felt” Laura Bush has serious/psychological issues. Her countenance/expression is so vapid and controlled she projects a frightening aura.

Interesting article ~
"Bush's Abstinence Makes Torture Sexy"

The discovery of widespread torture under the authority of the Bush Administration has shaken the foundation of the American identity. The truth hurts, but it doesn't hurt us as much as it hurts the people suffering in our custody.

In order to explain the strange Bush Administration policy of combining sexual abstinence with sexual torture, I have to resort to an old psychological theory based upon on the characteristics of a water balloon. The thing about a water balloon is that, although it is very flexible in its outward shape, it's inner volume cannot change. So, when a person squeezes a water balloon in one place to try to make it smaller, the balloon responds by expanding in size somewhere else.

In a similar fashion, I believe that the sexual nature of the Bush Administration's plan for torture in Iraq is linked to the Bush Administration's attempt to restrict the freedom of sexual behavior here in the United States. Bush and his advisors seem to regard sex as an evil thing. So, it is only natural that, when devising ways to torment its prisoners, the Bush Administration would come up with sex as the ultimate punishment.
This causes me a good deal of concern, for it leads me to believe that George W. Bush and his top leadership are dangerously sexually perverted.

This sounds like a casual insult, but I don't mean it in that way. I mean it as an alarm.A healthy mind regards sex as something that makes people feel good, and as a sign of a special kind of pleasurable emotional intimacy. Such a mind perceives sex as a sort of reward, not as a punishment. For the healthy mind, the greatest sexual punishment of all would be not to have any. The mind that imagines sex as an instrument of torment is not at all healthy. It is wounded and sadistic.

The more revelations of torture come out, the more it is clear that the decision to torture was made at the top levels of the Bush Administration. So too, the sexual nature of the torture appears to have been approved by the innermost circle within George W. Bush's White House. The inevitable conclusion is that George W. Bush and his top aides have a shadow of sexual sadism within them. Their decision to push for sexual abstinence even as they force sex on their prisoners is the clearest possible sign that the leaders of the Bush Administration are not fit to hold office.

The politics of sex is personal. Only a government that believes that it has the right to create and enforce laws that tell people where, when and how they can have consensual sex could imagine using its law enforcement capabilities to force people to have sex against their will.

Laura's chart:

http://www.astrodatabank.com/NM/BushLaura.htm

What I find menacing, if the time is correct, is the Saturn/Pluto conjunction on the nadir squaring the Taurus Asc. and Sun/Jupiter in Scorpio.
The deep psychological fear around survival, and the need to dominate. Extreme control issues hidden down deep.

Raj: sorry to be so long getting back have been gone ALL day looking for bridesmaids dresses for my youngest daughter's wedding coming in June. This is number 3 getting married and then I only have one more wedding to go after this one. Yea!!!

You asked about Sharon and there is an interesting pattern shaping up for Bush, all the key players in his cabinet and the west wing, Blair, Sharon, all the major players on the world's stage today and it has to do with late degree cardinal signs with Saturn coming into view after he goes direct. I will write more about this in the next week. I have astrologers disagreeing with me and they may be right but the energy coming to those late degrees will either be a consolidation of power or power taken away.

I've been watching other world stage figures and their late degree Cardinal signs and what happens to them or is happening. Carly Fiorina was fired from Hewlett Packard for her mistake in buying Compac, Arnold Schwazenegger's popularity is waining, Michael Moore did not get an academy nod, Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt split up (both have late degree cardinal signs)and the list goes on of the famous and not so famous, Camilla Parker Bowles is having a hard time finding a place to marry and England is not jumping up and down for her, while the Prince is making an honest woman, the titles are denied. As I said the list goes on and forms somewhat of a picture of the Saturn problems for the late degree Cardinal planets. I think there are serious problems up ahead for this administration and those around the world mis-using power.

The New Bush Doctrine, by George Soros

President George W. Bush's second inaugural address set forth an ambitious vision of the role of the United States in advancing the cause of freedom worldwide, fueling worldwide speculation over the course of American foreign policy during the next four years. The ideas expressed in Bush's speech thus deserve serious consideration.

"[I]t is the policy of the United States to seek and support the growth of democratic movements and institutions in every nation and culture," Bush declared, "with the ultimate goal of ending tyranny in our world."

There is a bow to diplomacy in the assurance that fulfilling this mission "is not primarily the task of arms, though we will defend our friends and ourselves by force of arms when necessary." Similarly, Bush recognizes that outsiders cannot force liberty on people. Instead, "Freedom by its nature must be chosen and defended by citizens and sustained by the rule of law and the protection of minorities."

Finally, there is acceptance of diversity, for "when the soul of a nation finally speaks, the institutions that arise may reflect customs and traditions very different from our own. America will not impose our own style of government on the unwilling. Our goal instead is to help others find their own voice, attain their own freedom and make their own way."

I agree with this goal, and have devoted the last fifteen years of my life and several billion dollars of my fortune to attaining it. Yet I find myself in sharp disagreement with the Bush administration. It is not only that there is a large gap between official words and deeds; I find that the words sometimes directly contradict the deeds in a kind of Orwellian doublespeak.

When Bush declared war on terror, he used that war to invade Iraq. When no connection with Al Qaeda could be established and no weapons of mass destruction could be found, he declared that we invaded Iraq to introduce democracy. We are about to convert elections in Iraq into a civil war between a Shi'a-Kurd dominated government and a Sunni insurrection.

In Iraq and beyond, when Bush says that "freedom will prevail," many interpret him to mean that America will prevail. This has impugned our motives and deprived us of whatever moral authority we once had in intervening in other countries' domestic affairs. If, for example, we offer support to Iranian students who are genuinely striving for greater freedom, we are now more likely to endanger them and reinforce regime hardliners.

To explain what is wrong with the new Bush doctrine, I have to invoke the concept of open society. That is the concept that has guided me in my efforts to foster freedom around the world. The work has been carried out through foundations operating on the ground and led by citizens who understand the limits of the possible in their countries. Occasionally, when a repressive regime expels our foundation – as has happened in Belarus and Uzbekistan – we operate from the outside.

Paradoxically, the most successful open society in the world, the US, does not properly understand the first principles of an open society; indeed, its current leadership actively disavows them. The concept of open society is based on the recognition that nobody possesses the ultimate truth, and that to claim otherwise leads to repression. In short, we may be wrong.

That is precisely the possibility that Bush refuses to acknowledge, and his denial appeals to a significant segment of the American public. An equally significant segment is appalled. This has left the US not only deeply divided, but also at loggerheads with much of the rest of the world, which considers our policies high-handed and arbitrary.

President Bush regards his reelection as an endorsement of his policies, and feels reinforced in his distorted view of the world. The "accountability moment" has passed, he claims, and he is ready to confront tyranny throughout the world according to his own lights.

But we cannot forego the critical process that is at the core of an open society – as we did for eighteen months after September 11, 2001. That is what has led us into the Iraq quagmire.

A better understanding of the concept of open society would require us to distinguish between promoting freedom and democracy and promoting American values and interests. If it is freedom and democracy that we want, we can foster it only by strengthening international law and international institutions.

Bush is right to assert that repressive regimes can no longer hide behind a cloak of sovereignty: what goes on inside tyrannies and failed states is of vital interest to the rest of the world. But intervention in other states' internal affairs must be legitimate, which requires clearly established rules.

As the dominant power in the world, America has a unique responsibility to provide leadership in international cooperation. America cannot do whatever it wants, as the Iraqi debacle has demonstrated; but, at the same time, nothing much can be achieved in the way of international cooperation without US leadership, or at least active participation. Only by taking these lessons to heart can progress be made towards the lofty goals that Bush has announced.

Thanks, Isabelle, for a great astrological "snapshot" of the Middle East situation. All that ego and all that fear/distrust (US included). A very unstable combination.

Fascinating comments re Guckert and Bush WH/family sexuality. On AmericaBlog someone posted Guckert's birthday: May 22, 1957. I don't know birthplace--have asked if anybody knows.

Re Bush--his habit of giving nicknames is a way of demeaning or belittling people IMO. And I think he would swing either way, because it isn't about attraction for him--it is about power.

Important comments by Soros. Thanks, Pallas.

In regard to Sally's saying that there "will either be a consolidation of power or power taken away, " I think it's going to be taken away, even if it's by degrees right now, or if it's just in people seeing the dawn. From farmers to evangelicals, the * supporters are beginning to see that reality is quite different than the vision painted by * & co. It may take a little while to really gel, but maybe things will happen fast.

I like the article on Saturn, karma & responsibility Jo posted. I especially like the following passages, which have been true to date and an especially insidious Neptunian-generated problem, but, again, I think things are changing. Another poll I just read about found that 70% polled thought hunger, child abuse, and domestic violence were the most important moral issues of the day, not abortion and gay marriage. And, remember, Buffet and Soros are starting to buy the media.

From Jo's post:
"This may lead us to ask: how informed can a populace be that gets its information from Fox News? How judicious can a court of public opinion be in a society where scientists who talk openly about global warming are muzzled, publishing houses are enjoined by the White House to blacklist over-candid insiders, and administration critics are punished by outing their wives as CIA agents?

Our simple-minded president is an embarrassment, to be sure; but how much more worrisome is the egregious ignorance of the populace itself? We are living in a culture where young people get their current events from MTV parodies, and where the general populace retains no memory of history that was headlines just a few years ago. A typical example is the public's wholesale amnesia about the outrageous arms-for-hostages plot hatched during the Reagan administration, whereby the CIA hired John Negroponte to sell American guns to Iran -- Iraq's enemy at the time -- in order to finance America’s illegal war in Nicaragua. Now Negroponte is back in favor with Washington, having escaped disgrace quite effortlessly; indeed, it seems he is being appointed ambassador to Iraq. In an informed democracy, would it not be expected that the citizenry would take this opportunity to call the whole unresolved, unprosecuted Iran-Contra scandal into question?

The dilemma of the American people lies in a lack of intelligence in the classic sense of the word; that is, an essentially state-run media is distorting how millions of Americans view the world. A citizenry disempowered by epidemic, entrenched ignorance has no hope of deciding issues of national responsibility.

At this point in America's history, the great American challenge is utterly straightforward yet exasperatingly elusive: it is simply for Americans to respond to what the US government is doing in their name. And though there are plenty of social visionaries around, suggesting various things Americans could do about what's happening, these leaders are there to offer inspiration and energy -- not to dictate how Americans should respond. Saturn teaches that no one can do that for anyone else."

Although these points are well taken, what's left out is that a lot of young American's get their news from "The Daily Show," not MTV, and approximately 50% of Americans did see the truth on Nov. 2. It remains for the others to slowly tip the scales. Only those so greedy as to not want to lose power will continue to hang on.

The mole, the US media and a White House coup

The reporter who wasn't is part of a wider press scandal, writes Paul Harris in New York

Sunday February 20, 2005
The Observer

For two years Jeff Gannon cut an unobtrusive figure at White House press conferences. The shaven-headed, craggily handsome man worked for an obscure news agency called Talon News, known for its conservative sympathies. He was often the subject of jokes by colleagues on weightier news organisations.
No one is laughing now, because Gannon was far from being a harmless distraction. He was writing under a false name and working for a Republican front organisation. Suddenly, his 'softball' questions to White House officials looked less like eccentricities and more like plotting by an administration which has frequently displayed a dark mastery of the arts of press control.

When it emerged that Gannon was also linked to gay prostitution websites and might be a gay prostitute himself, the scandal as to how he was allowed daily access to the White House grew even murkier. The American media is now being forced to confront the possibility that Gannon, whose real name is James Guckert, was simply a Republican plant, used by officials, including President George W Bush, to ask easy questions in difficult press conferences. 'The idea of having a mole in the White House press corp is amazing, but that's what it looks like,' said Jack Lule, a journalism professor at Lehigh University.

But the Gannon affair, which has shocked much of America's political establishment, is just the latest scandal in the media establishment. Newspapers including the New York Times and USA Today have been hit by plagiarism and forgery scandals. Other papers and television stations have been consumed with a soul-searching inquest into how they were misled about non-existent Iraqi weapons programmes. Added to that is growing evidence of a White House campaign to bypass or control the media in its everyday presentation of government policy , which included paying one journalist hundreds of thousands of dollars to promote its policies.

Last week a federal watchdog warned the Bush administration that any video news releases must state that the government is the source. Twice in two years, government departments have been accused of distributing fake news packages, using actors as journalists.

On the internet, the mainstream media is derided and scorned. One question is dominating US newsrooms and television studios: ignored, scandalised and now corrupted, just what is America's mainstream media for anymore?

The extent of the Bush White House's command and control of the press corps is often revealed in the seemingly innocuous White House pool reports. These are dispatches dutifully filed by a correspondent assigned to travel with Bush and contain little but lists of endless meetings, meals eaten and clothes worn. But no detail is too small to be ignored by Bush's ever-watchful press handlers. One report, on 13 August 2004, contained a remark from Bush that it was a 'good question' as to who to support if Iraq's soccer team played the United States in the Olympics. Officials scurried to 'correct' it. 'To clear up any possible misconception ... the president would of course support the American soccer team in any hypothetical game with Iraq,' a new report said. 'The initial report should have done more to reflect the exchange was mainly in jest.'

Such micromanagement has been a hallmark of the Bush White House and its all-powerful policy guru, Karl Rove. Added to that has been what appears to be a concerted effort to subvert the mainstream media.

Hi, All. Regarding sexual perversion which is recently seeping to the surface: this has been going on for quite a while.

I think the world got its first hint that there was something seriously wrong with this administration when the photos of Abu Ghraib first surfaced last year. The world was shocked, then outraged. Next, the questions:

Who ordered this? The administration denied any wrongdoing, but when people started looking into where the orders came from, it became clear that it was indeed the Bush administration that ordered it.

So who? Was this Bush's grand chance to act out his fantasies on a grand scale?

I recall listening to Randi Rhodes on Air America radio. She was linking Cheney to the scandal. She played a sound clip of him talking, and said "God, he's so gay". She said he was a repressed gay.

That same morning, Marc Maren & Mark Riley talked about Dick Cheney being a "closet gay". They said he was a repressed gay.

They said the worst holocausts that have been inflicted on humanity were done by repressed, self-loathing gays; Hitler and some others.

We already know about Alberto Gonzales. I'm seriously wondering about Don Rumsfeld. I saw a photo of them, sitting together in front of Gerald Ford. They were quite a big younger then. But still, there was a certain look to them.....

And then there's Karl Rove, with that effeminate face. Again, I'll reiterate there is NOTHING wrong with being gay. I think in many respects, gay people have given so much to the world in terms of talent.

It's the CLOSET gays I'm talking about.

I've said that Bush's role in this drama is to be the Decider. Which will it be? Bush represents the most vile, hateful aspects of humanity. We have to choose. Today. We can't put it off any longer. With each passing day, the man becomes more revolting and demon-like.

I recall at my office, about 2 years ago. The subject came up about Michael Moore's movie which had just been released. I told my boss I was going to take my teen-age kids to go see it. (My boss is a foolish Rat-publican).

He became very upset when he heard this. He thought that was a very bad decision. I asked him why, but he didn't have any good answers. He just had a very frightenend look on his face.

Another man walked up and joined the conversation. When he heard the topic was Michael Moore's new movie, he stood up quickly and moved away fast. I asked him as he was leaving if he was going to go see the movie.

He also, had a frightened look on his face. He just swatted his hand as he walked away. "No way". That's when I realized what was happening.

They were both AFRAID of the truth. They both knew, in their heart of hearts, that this movie was exposing a ton of dirt on their party. They did not want to see it. So they just made some excuse and walked away.

I think this is probably how the vast majority of Americans are reacting today. They are afraid, and they are quickly moving away, swatting away the ugly facts.

Still hesitating? George Bush just upped the ante. Every time we blink, things just got a little more hideous.

Posted by: Cliss on February 20, 2005 05:08 AM

Bravo, Cliss! Indeed, "Every time we blink, things just get a little more hideous." With Gonzales, Chertoff and Negroponte in place, things will be so hideous that Hitler, Goebbels, Mengele, etc., will be rolling in their graves in envy.

shylurker I am new to this weblog and find astroworld fascinating with fascinating minds and comments, I wonder how long has it been since the world really took notice of the Middle East affairs beyond the ruling parties and politicians. So much has changed I guess since Sept 11.

Posted by: Janan on February 20, 2005 06:23 AM

Janan, Many of us have debated for decades about Israel and the rest of the ME. Surely, European Jewish refugees had every right to expect that somewhere they could live without fear. All human beings should have that right. And so many of them went to that part of the ME that they understood their deity had bequeathed to them. I don't want to get too far into this, for I am not interested in posting any kind of lengthy discourse, but the powers that were at the time did everybody a disservice in the way the Israeli state was established. And so we have this hideous conflict over there today with cousins hating and killing cousins (harking back to the father of both groups being Abraham). It is a very ugly thing. And then, introduce oil and profiteering and, oh holy jeehosaphats!

Peace, oh Peace! Will the children of this planet ever be able to live and thrive in peace?

Posted by: shylurker on February 20, 2005 06:38 AM

The truth would kill you so does ignorance.. we should teach our children to walk the tight rope between doing and undoing, survival by instinct..Been dabbling in astrology for a long time till I decided few years ago to put the books, the ephemeris, aside unless begged by friends and family to cast watch and interpolate. One thing I knew that Pluto would fall conjunct my Moon in Sagittarius in February 2005 ( among other sets of planetary interplay ) one thing I did not know was how much the assassination of Hariri would throw me back into the claws of planets and politically for that matter. Hope finding astroworld online is just this: a manifestation of Pluto on my moon, ruler of my 10th House ( and now Chiron in my 4th reminding me of my father's pain on losing his home and never being able to go back to it in Nazareth)

Posted by: Janan on February 20, 2005 06:59 AM

I respectfully disagree, Janan. Not survival by instinct, but survival by recognition that we are all one. Peace, dear heart, peace.

I have a request for our always brilliant astrologers on this site as well as for any other experts out there (you know who you are).

I was wondering if you all might be able to take a look at the charts for the 2006 midterms, with an eye towards what kind of issues are going to be in play and who is going to be on the offensive and who needs to play defense. The 2006 midterms have been coming up over and over again in my conversations with fellow Dems, and I'd like to get an astrological perspective upfront.

----

Now, on to what I really wanted to talk about. I have some experience working with issues of sexuality and sprituality and would like to make a contribution to this discussion. I would like to acknowledge the danger of the homosexuals in the Republican Party. I've increasingly noticed in the last couple of months that gay people are taking over both political parties. But as with any group, there are the good, the bad, and the ugly. Right now, the bad and the ugly are mostly signing up to join the Repugs.

I would like to offer some terminology to help keep the conversation from getting too offensive. If you have questions on these issues, I would be happy to answer them.

gay/lesbian = homosexual in one's identity and behavior

bisexual = attracted to individuals of both sexes

out = admitting one's homosexuality to other people

closeted = aware of one's homosexual tendencies but not yet admitting them to other people

repressed = not aware of one's homosexual tendencies but acting them out unconsciously

self-loathing = aware of one's homosexual tendencies but actively rejecting those tendencies, often by trying to purge those tendencies from the self

questioning = unsure of one's sexual identity but actively seeking an answer

I would urge people to pay attention to the distinction between a homosexual identity ("I am gay") compared to homosexual behavior ("I have slept with people of the same sex"). Acting gay, being gay, and sleeping with people of the same sex are not the same things.

sex = male/female

gender = behaviors and roles typically ascribed to each sex

Now that I've given you some definitions, I want to point out one kind of behavior for which I have not come across any word.

It's when a person leads a heterosexual lifestyle, accepts all the privileges of heterosexuality, but has gay relationships and hook-ups on the side and actively works to oppress gay people, hates gay people, and fails to see any connection between their own behavior and the word "gay." This is one of the things we are facing in the Republican Party. The character played by Al Pacino in "Angels in America" is an excellent example of a real-life version of this. This type of person is different from the repressed type described above because they actively engage in homosexual behavior. Let's call this the "anti-social" type because the description arguably fits the profile of the similarly named personality disorder.

The other thing we don't have a word for is for gay people who vote against their interests as gay people. Oh wait...Log Cabin. Or as I sometimes call them, "Pink Elephants."

So in the Republican Party we can find closeted, repressed, self-loathing, Log Cabin, and anti-social gay men (and note that it's mostly the men at this point). It's the repressed and the anti-social ones that I'm most concerned about. Many of the religious types who will someday be outed probably fit into the self-loathing category. The politicians, on the other hand, are mostly repressed with a few anti-social types thrown into the mix as well. The repressed ones are the right-wing nuts in the Tom Delay/Rick Santorum crowd. The anti-social ones probably fall more into the neo-con camp, but I bet they're literally everywhere else.

Now if you want, I could go into detail about the various types of homosexual crazies on the left of American politics. But it's the one's on the right that are truly scary.

But back to my original point of making this post. When discussing this issue, it's best to be as specific as possible, like Cliss was in the post above.

Now I'm tired of writing this post. In my next post, I'll start naming names.

it is going to get very interesting. 'management' has decided that * and company need to go, they're bad for business. the tear-down was activated by approving CM (corporate media) coverage of "gannon/guckert." this will, if 'management' has it's way, result in a safe republican vp appointed after cheney is tarred by the plame investigation.

'management' is operating with the old rule-book; sort of like the british generals did when trying to fight the americans in our revolution. since we didn't fight them in the european formation battles, we had a huge advantage over the most far-reaching empire of any time. 'management' thinks it can prevail with the CM. they don't have control of the guerilla blogs or the internet. oops!

well, the tear-down of * may get out of control. actually, it is out of control. there are so many people mad at * and so many information sources (that cannot be stopped...you can't shut down the internet w/out causing a depression), things will get very chaotic.

i see the following in fairly short order;

1) CM runs stories all over the place with "Bush" and "gay male prostitute" in them. * gets linked to "gay male" the same way he linked "saddam" and 911...you just juxtapose them over and over.
2) about 20% of *'s base comes on over to our side quickly. that means the 50-50% split in approve-disapprove ratings goes to 40-60% approve-disapprove.
3) then old fitzgerald indites a bunch of vp associates and he's gone.
4) that's when it gets fun. 'management' needs it's own guy as the vp replacement. will that happen? maybe, maybe not. the person better be clean.
5) some definitive proof comes out about a stolen election *before* the new vp is selected. 'management' will not do this, it will happen in the blogsphere/internet. once it's out, 'management' has lost control.
6) that 60% disapprove group will demand a rectification of the election, i.e., a democrat.

oops, who will the cheney replacement be? can't be a republican; can't be a faux democrat; who can it be?

Knowledge is a primary progenitor of peace. Another is love/compassion/charity. The goal for many who visit A/W is peace. Distractions abound, and those with clear hearts and minds will reocognize the distractions for what they are (Wal-Mart, anyone?), and focus on peace. We must stay united and committed.

Posted by: shylurker on February 20, 2005 07:40 AM

Love ,compassion, charity are often times blind folded. Please shylurker do not get me wrong I strongly believe in Peace and I have seen the ugly face of War, 30 years of turbulent times in Lebanon and nothing is a coincidence

Posted by: Janan on February 20, 2005 07:45 AM

Love, compassion and charity are oftentimes betrayed. And that has certainly happened in Lebanon. And it will continue until we can finally kick the beast of oil/profit/GREED off the planet. Then little children can feel secure and can grow to heights we've never seen before.

Now, how do we rid the planet of these lice? Anyone?

Posted by: shylurker on February 20, 2005 07:53 AM

Charity starts at home its the responsiblity of the free world and their democratic elections. you start by not electing the Greedy Profiteering oil sharks and then we can go from there towards a semblance of Peace..

Posted by: Janan on February 20, 2005 08:02 AM

Shylurker, I am not exactly sure how it will work out, but tommorrow Chiron enters into Aquarius. It will probably take awhile to see the effects, but I am beginning to feel the "shift" all ready.

We do live in interesting times.

Rumors about the bushes and pedophilia have been rampant since the reagan days. I'm betting the perps are male, and big barbara is The Enforcer, making sure everyone keeps their mouths shut. She's scarier than all of them put together...

I still think "gay" is not the correct term for this particular form of homoeroticism. These boys are about testosterone, not sexuality. They're addicted to gasms, in general...orgasms, angergasms, wargasms, etc., ad nauseam.

I was just looking at Bush's chart and his secon-term chart, and I cannot help but see Bush not filling out second term. Following Traditional essential dignities, Bush's Saturn is in detriment in Cancer in the 12th conjunct by whole-sign with his Sun. To make it worse, the Sun/Saturn conjunct is squared by Jupiter in the 2nd in Libra. Add the Pluto/Venus/Mercury conjunction on his Ascendent and it doesn't look good.

This is all about 12th house issues of suffering and martyrdom. This afflicted 12th house, along with the secretive and explosive Pluto on the ASC shows that there are alot of secrets around Bush, many of which he has no idea. But, I think he will be blamed and he will take the rap for this.

Watch him become way over confident, and at the same time, watch him become more and more controlling of those around him. He becomes more and more detailed oriented (Merecury in Leo) to the point of obsessive. In the end, his macro-managing style will leave in so ineffectual that he will totally lose all control.

The scandal is much more indicative in the the second-term chart. Who can deny the power of the Chiron/Sun/Neptune conjunction in the 10th and on the Midheaven. I mean, this administration is in "Lala" land; really self-deceived. Not only that, it shows a big fall from grace with the Pluto/Mars conjunct in the 8th in Sagittarius.

I always heard that this could indicate War or military manuevers.however, I think this could also mean that others outside the administration will bring it down. I say the administration because of the Capricorn in the eighth. Could this be Gannon and the American People sick of the horrid behavior and hipocracy? However it plays out, this is the chart of a wounded second-term and a wounded president. And watch him become more and more religious. With his Moon/Neptune conjunct in his second house, this is how he deals with things when "what is his" is threatened. Christianity, the ultimate Neptunian religion is what Bush goes back to when threatened. It's his way to escape harsh reality. Watch as the scandals grow, that he uses more and more religious language.

Any ideas anyone? What do you all think?

First -- Isabelle this was a chilling glimpse of the potent energies active in the Middle East. Currently Sharon has dodged being linked to his son's double deals. That may change. His "leaving" may be promted by this scandal.

On the sexual/power/piccadillos of current whitehouse occupants: think Nero "fiddling" while his power "collapsed". He was totally imasculated.

Travieso, your prognostication has truth written on it. Given what's being "uncovered" and given the public's sexual perversion preoccupation (vis-a-vis Clinton et al) I believe the so-called "right" will become even more self-righteous and high-handed for a time. When rock-solid evidence supports the "news" they'll turn like rabid dogs. Wonder what their so-called faith will supply them then? Forgiveness? I doubt it.

The explosive nature of current energies manifests beyond the earth. I find this interesting on several fronts.
http://www.nature.com/news/2005/050214/full/050214-18.html Since (i'm convinced) we are all connected, what then is our connection to the universe? Do the energies of our solar system reflect or refract those of other systems? Is there mimicry? Is there a timed consensus?

Travieso,

Whose chart has moon/neptune in second house? Not *... not on any chart I have seen.

In my opinion * is a poster boy for the Neocons. They make the decisions, tell him what to say.

Mike,

you mentioned approval ratings for *... it's my understanding they were already in low 40s BEFORE jim/jeff... and speaking of ratings/polls, I can't find the link now, but two days ago, there was a poll indicating 64% of Americans want the Democrats to oppose *, to 'hold him back'... anyone else see that? or was it one of my momentary aberrations? Speaking to that 64% poll, it has been my belief since before Nov. 2 and after that Kerry won... that more people are disgusted with * than the so-called polls were willing to indicate. Part of their MO is to keep us divided. Heck, I can't find anyone who thinks he is great, except the waiting-for-rapture folks, and I live in a Red State.

This is the base line for me, and what I have to remind myself of frequently, as I am prone to get caught up in the propaganda sometimes myself:

1. Until we get rid of the e-voting machines with no paper trail, there will be NO MORE 'elections' 2006 included. So, I'm certainly not going to wear myself out politicing...

2. 8-10 comglomerates OWN/CONTROL the US media. If they don't read the White House press releases, they are replaced with someone who will.

3. No vote, no free press --- remind you of something? Right. We live in a fascist state, soon to be a police state, courtesy of Gonzales, Chertoff and coming soon at your local Homeland, Negroponte.. who will keep them all in line, from * on down.

4. * has already demonstrated he can invade any country he chooses for whatever reason he decides. And he has the option to change his causi belli later, depending on changes in the wind direction.

5. Karl Rove is in charge of the most effective psyc ops in the history of homo sapiens.

6. As dear Shylurker says --- pay attention: I have never heard her this vocal! Listen when she speaks. Unlike me, she is concise and wise. I otoh get carried away with the sound of my own voice... sometimes. Anyway, as Shylurker says, all is not lost... We continue chopping wood and carrying water... we bat our heads against the 'Bastille' and it will fall. The blogs are alive with the sound of truth... the have the MSM on the run with their tail between their legs. Corporate media knows that more than 1/2 their consumers DO NOT like the way things are going. Attacking Social Security was probably the hole in the dike... More and more Democrats are finding their backbone. Praise and thanks are in order. As well as other kinds of emails to the ones with failing grades.

7. Cap'n Sally says Saturn is coming... and my money's on her.

Lastly, light to all... peace... Shalom...

Sorry Jo. Typo- it's the Neptune/Moon/Jupiter conjunction in the 3rd house in Libra in Bush's chart.

I totally agree with you, Bush is a puppet. Yet, at the same time, he is very controlling over the administration with mars in Virgo.

Well, those commie peaceniks are going to greet 'em... :-O (that's sarcasm of course!)

Unprecedented security
for Bush Brussels visit

18 February 2005

BRUSSELS – Security is set to be at an all-time high next week when U.S. President George Bush rolls into Brussels for meetings with European allies.

The U.S. president, due to arrive in the Belgian capital Sunday evening, will travel in his armoured Cadillac – affectionately referred to as "the Beast" by the White House press corps – he brings on all his foreign trips.

http://www.expatica.com/source/site_article.asp?subchannel_id=48&story_id=17125&name=Unprecedented+security+for+Bush+Brussels+visit

88 social movement organisations support demonstrations against the policies of the US
At least 88 environmental, human rights, peace and youth organisations have joined the platform "Stop Bush!" that is calling for protest demonstrations on 21st and 22nd February to mark the visit of US President George W. Bush to Belgium.

In a platform text, the organisations express their "concern about the negative role that the United States is playing within the international community in several areas, including the environment, human rights, peace, and aid to developing countries." A number of Belgian political parties have also expressed their support for the platform. They include SP.a, Spirit, Groen!, PS, Ecolo, KP, PC and PvdA.

Let's not go overboard on the importance of the
Jeff Gannon gay-gate matter.

Those hoping for damning evidence of dimson in bed
with a live gay man are dreaming...and IMHO we're getting a little far out.

There have been gay men in congress, as a matter of fact look up Crane (R) I think his name was, who sat in Congress for years with one of those prison ankle bracelets on for sexually assaulting
one of the young House interns/ushers = and there have been other instances of such behavior that have been mostly hushed up.

The importance of gay-gate is not to dimson - the importance of gay-gate is to the Corporate Media and the press corps - who are waking up to just how much they have been manipulated and angry that they have been used in this way.

By the very fact that mainstream media is reporting extensively on gay-gate and Gannon, even having him on tv and interviews, shows a turning of the worm....."they're mad as hell and not going to take it anymore" ------meaning they may start reporting REAL NEWS instead of whitehouse talking points.

Bill Maher -

for those of you who have HBO, Bill Maher's lastest program (last Friday's) is still playing -repeating in the evenings (not the comedy hour)

This one is with Senator Joseph Biden, former Health Secretary Tommy Thompson and Robin Williams.

DONT MISS IT. while Thomspon was still doing wh talking points and lauding dimson, Biden was openly laughing....and Williams and Maher lambasted our poisoned food and water, and the situation in Iraq..and Gannon (Williams "better coming out latent than never")

On the discussion of Iraq having elections - Williams " yeah, they had elections but now the hard part comes, they have to draw up a Constitution - I say, send them ours, WE'RE NOT USING IT" - to which Biden was openly laughing and laughing hard.

The comments were hard hitting and ripped a new one for Thompson, who was not doing a lot of laughing, but putting on a phony smile whenever appropriate - you'll enjoy the talking points being repeated again and again and being ripped apart by Maher and Williams.

We all need a good laugh.

I think that "want Democrats to stand up" poll was in the Wall Street Journal.

Very good stuff on Kos about Rove's formula for dealing with info damaging to Bush:

First leak the info to someone with skeletons in his own closet (like the author of Fortunate Son). Second, out and smear the fall-guy who publicized the Bush info. Result, the messenger is dismissed and his message is dismissed also.

A variation of this was done with Rather/CBS. The facts about Bush's AWOL were correct. But they were typed and retyped with a wrong date, etc. and leaked to Rather. Rather jumped on them like Br'er Rabbit on the tar-baby, and he got stuck. The papers were fake, but the facts in them were true. But the facts got flushed along with Rather.

Going now to look at Karl Rove's chart. There must be a very devious Mercury there.

Astrologers, is there a chart of any kind available on North Korea?

Posted by: Teresa on February 20, 2005 05:46 PM

Janan,
See Three Card Monte for my last post after your post regarding the rectification of Hariri's chart. Thank you so much for your work. I'm no expert, but I know enough to follow your work. Will get out my trusty Solar Fire and start working on this. As I said in the last post in Three Card Monte, the Lebanese populace thinks that the Australian connection is a red herring promulgated by the Lahoud President and his henchmen (Syrian backed). Just doing a solar chart for Lebanon for 12:00 noon has shown me there is a popular revolution about to take hold. Aquarius on the ascendent of that chart and Uranus about to enter the 4th house (placidus). Still both Saturn and Mars are there natally leaving me in doubt as to how this will turn out. Jumblatt and others are trying to convince the Shi'a of the South Lebanon region that they will never be abandoned again, that they have no need for Hezballah, but this may not fly. The Shi'a of the region are a little disgusted by the tithing and taxing and the usual tactics of state with in a state, yet it remains to be seen if the local Shi'a population can go against Hezballah and live. Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah is trying to "diffuse" the situation. Sunday New York Times page 15 of Section A. Thanks again.

hey folks! my first time checking in on this thread, (nice Isabelle, thank you) and it sure is interesting!! My conclusion from the past coupla weeks of news is that the cockroaches have turned on the lights and are swarming out of the closet, so to speak. Negroponte/Gonzales/Condi ensconsed, Clinton & 41 buddy-buddying it up with the compassion money, the "leaking" of the sexcapades of the higher-ups. Jeez- one wonders what's coming next hunh? I imagine the next stage of the plan is to have international internal citizenry wars & strife. Pallas you said what I said was going to happen on the last thread- folks are going to get mad as hell and not take it anymore, lol. Posted by: Peg on February 20, 2005 07:46 PM

Just took a look at Karl Christian Rove's Mercury. Heard that is his middle name--maybe because he was born on Christmas Day. (Jesus wept.)

Anyhow, Dec. 25, 1950 Denver CO time unknown.

Mercury (communication) is in authoritarian Capricorn, maybe opposite Moon in Cancer (US citizens? families? home folks?)

Merc in inconjunct Pluto in Leo. Leo is royal, egoistic. Pluto is a dark ruler connected with the Id and death and regeneration. Merc is square Neptune (deception, glamour, oil, delusion) in gracious, make-everybody-feel comfortable Libra.

That is a devious Mercury, all right.

Also, the negative side of Capricorn is captured in a quote a French general made about the Germans (the negative side of the Germans, let me hasten to add. They sure have been on the right side of history lately.) "The Hun is either at your feet or at your throat."

Sorry guys. On Lebanon, Uranus by TRANSIT is about ready to SQUARE it's natal Uranus (solar chart for 12:00 noon, placidus houses) on the cusp of the 4th... Looking at so many blazing charts for the country I got a memory tangle.
And by solar return for this Nov. 22,2004, Uranus is opposed the ascendent ...And by progression in the same solar return, Uranus and Mars oppose the ascendent.
I looked into next year's solar return for Lebanon, and the first thing that hits me is Pluto/Ceres conj. in the 10th. Pluto/Ceres has always suggested death and dying. It is Sag. Then there are T squares to look at in the fixed signs. I don't like it.

Voice of the White House February 14, 2005

TBR News.org – February 14, 2005

“I can well imagine the squealing from readers of my recent comments about the basic stupidity of the American electorate. Kicked dogs yelp and I don’t envy you having to listen to their predictable wails of complaint.

I don’t know if this penetrated into the thick skulls of the complainants but for groups of people like the born-again ninnies, the dim-witted neo Fascist “Patriotic” types and other of their bands to actually believe that George W. Bush is going to actually address their needs is pathetic.

I well recall the visitors that thronged into the Monkey Palace before the elections. Marv Tweedle of the East Jesus, Texas, Eagle Shield Chapter of Patriotic Fascists for Bush would arrive with several other knuckle-draggers and, depending on how many votes old Marv could produce , would be met by a staffer. In a nice conference room, bugged, Marv and old Ernie McDingle would tell the staffer how they wanted every young American in uniform and fighting for their country; how anyone who neglected to take down the school flag when it was raining should be publicly whipped and so on.

The aide, who had a snitch sheet on Marv and Ern proving that they were two short steps removed from a street person, would nod sympathetically and eventually let them in on the information that President Bush was 100% on their side and when he got reelected, would pass this or that bill to further their cause. If Marv and Ern had enough voters behind them, they would actually be ushered into the Oval Office to meet with the Head Chimpanzee. Bush would enter, smile and give them his fake Texas Goodoldboy drawl. Nothing specific would be said because Marv and Ern were told not to mention a thing about what the staffer had promised because this was a secret not to be talked about. The Chimpster gave them about five minutes of his worthless time and out they would go, autographed (by machine) pictures clutched in their sweating palms to go back to East Jesus, Texas and their many voting friends with tales of wonder and joy. .

The identical scenario was repeated when the Reverend Bertil Willer of the Topeka chapter of the Church of the Aryan Redeemer arrived with his bowlegged wife and two Deacons. The Reverend wanted to know if Bush would stop any kind of abortion, promote Jesus in all the public schools and ban rock and roll. And the Harry Potter evil books. Curious George the Monkey would repeat the same performance he had with the Texas fascists, only the machine-signed pictures <>these<> Good and Godfearing boobies got had: “Yours in Christ” above the fake signature.

I have heard Fat Karl the Eunuch laugh about all of this tinhorn theater because Fat Karl knows that there is no way Bush could get Congress to pass a law banning the Constitution and replacing it with the Ten Commandments or to compel every American to have the flag tattooed on their immense and flabby buttocks.

Now, Bush was reelected by these star-struck morons and the chances of their cherished societal changes have gone a-glimmering into the gloaming. In other words, the boobs are shit out of luck. But of course Curious George and Fat Karl don’t give a tuppenny damn because they won and have four more years to loot the treasury, line their pockets and get even with society for laughing at them when they were nerdy, fat, pimply and drooling adolescents.

And those of the electorate who voted for George on these grounds get exactly what they deserve: nothing at all.

Now onto all this fuss about the Gays in the White House….If the Family Values idiots who elected Bush realized how morally corrupt this administration actually was, they would march on Washington with farm implements and torches. The President is a cocaine-snorting, impotent drunk who was made fun of as a spoiled child and hates everyone. His top aide, Fat Karl the Eunuch, was a pathetic, bloated nerd with inch-thick glasses and loathed by everyone in his high school. His own private life is so bad that if these Family Values people or the local Child Protective Services ever heard about it, Fat Karl would be toast. In fact, the inner circles of the White House contain some of the most corrupt people I have ever met and I would under no circumstances allow any of my grandchildren anywhere near them, ever. They are, most of them, polymorph and perverse and those, like Cheney, who are not, are greedy crooks out to loot the Treasury by any means short of physical armed robbery. As I said before, you get what you pay for and the boobs who voted this gang of thieves and perverts into power deserve exactly what they get.

The problem is, Bush and his fanatics have done terrible damage to the economy, have created divisions in the American social structure beyond belief, utterly ruined America’s world image and instead of practicing intelligent diplomacy to solve international problems, have threatened, bullied and harassed any individual or government abroad that has dared to object to codified torture, mass killing of civilians, hostile foreign reporters and enemies of Israel, practiced by this Administration on a daily basis.

Putting the despicable Gonzales into the Attorney General’s office is an obscene farce that attempts to legitimatize sycophancy and torture at the same time.

And when the deluded Right, both religious and political, discover that Curious George has played them for the trusting fools that they are, great will be the lamentations heard in the land. And George will go right on getting richer at out expense and we do not need to comment of Fat Karl’s pleasures.”

Mike,
I agree with you about the importance of the Guckert/Gannon - gate. (Gee, what alliteration, we could add gay... but I digress!) The man had no journalism background (2-day seminar!), represented no legitimate news agency, did not pass the 'usual' protocol for obtaining entry into the White House, had no visible means of an income (GOPUSA gave him a 'stipend' to meet WH requirements that he be 'salaried') owed back taxes, had not paid his dues (as most journalists in the press room have) to get there... was in the elite Press Corps for over two years... attended at least two Christmas parties, attended at least one press conference, and was called upon by the resident... may have actually leaked the 'memo' in Plame affair, brought Daschle down... and goodness knows what else... and that's before you add the business about his being gay and running porn websites soliciting business. Make him female, give him a bag of quarters, stiletto heels and plunging neckline and some chewing gum and a pencil and pad and entry into the White House Press Corps to ask questions of a Democratic administration, and you have what? Say it louder I can't hear you! Right IMPEACHMENT...

Angry reception for Bush
From correspondents in Brussels
February 21, 2005
From: Agence France-Presse

ABOUT 1000 people have demonstrated against the Bush administration in central Brussels ahead of the US president's arrival.

Protesters brandished signs reading "Bush is not welcome" just a few hours before George W. Bush was to touch down at the start of a European tour.
Huddled on the steps of the Brussels stock exchange, the activists held up an Iraqi flag, another bearing the Cuban colours, and waved a rainbow-coloured banner bearing the world "Pace" (peace).

Another banner declared: "President Bush, the world is calling you to account."

Similar demonstrations are expected throughout Mr Bush's stay in Brussels.

He is due to attend summit meetings with the leaders of the European Union and NATO, amid an unprecedented security lockdown.

Chris Graham, the editor of the moderate Augusta Free Press, said it took him two weeks of phone calls with the White House to get a day pass to cover a local Little League team playing on the White House grounds in 2002.

Thanks WV, but if you all can catch the whole show-do it....it's so outrageously funny and acerbic.

MIKE - I hope you 're right - butttt.. (no pun)

that was one of the things Biden and Maher said on the show...if this was a democratic president the House Judiciary Committee would be investigating and having hearings on how and who let Stud Muffin into the WH press corps and how he passed FBI inspection..but it's up to the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee - (I think that's Sensenbrenner (R) isn't it? S0000..
if you really want something to come of this maybe you should be starting a movement of PHONE CALLS AND EMAILS BY THE TENS OF THOUSANDS to The
Chairman of The House Judiciary Committee. (that's where impeachment starts..)

By the way, in the footage posted by WV of the Maher show, Robin Williams was going " Knock knock knock..."aw cmon Karl , open up the door, cmon, cmon now...."

And even Thompson put his head down laughing while
Biden was doubling over.

Apparently its insider knowledge that Karl goes for stud-muffins.

Of course MIKE, if Karl was SHARING his stud muffins and that was exposed...scuse the pun... but ....nahhh.

Mike I certainly hope you and Guido are right...and if you are, I have a bottle of vintage
French 1989 Brut Piper Heidsieck you can open :)

Personally, I'd like to see Ashcroft /fingered as one of the participants - and maybe Rehnquist and Scalia.

SCOTT RITTER SAYS U.S. PLANS JUNE ATTACK ON IRAN, ‘COOKED’ JAN. 30 IRAQI ELECTION RESULTS

http://www.libertyforum.org/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=iraq_war&Number=293393206

Posted by: M. on February 21, 2005 03:46 AM

I'm sure with a Repug maj we could not get an impeachment going... what some are trying to do, is unravel this thing, the blogs are pulling on it... like a sweater... there's lots more... under the surface, that needs to come OUT... press is HAVING to do something, but it's mostly resaying what the blogs have dug up... there's a diary over at dKos posing topics on blogs and MSM and news and asking questions: now that blogs have gotten America's attention, what do they do now?

Couple of good points have been made.

1. Blogs, more than MSM, are the PEOPLE.

2. Let's stop calling MSM 'mainstream' --- gives them way too much legitimacy. Let's start callling them CORPORATE Media or CM ... remind people they are OWNED by corporations... blogs are not. Blogs answer to PEOPLE, raise funds to run their sites from the PEOPLE (the big ones do anyway...)

3. How can we get more interaction with Corporate Media... positive interaction? reach out to some of those who have been kind to blogs. Dana Milbank did an interview with a Kossack (one who has been unearthing most of stuff on Guckert/ Gannon), she ran it in a diary and asked for others to make comments, ask other questions. Dana is going to read and dKos will do another diary. Olberman (sp?) is another...

4. Enough of the slurs from CNN and others about those #$%@ blogs... we're the PEOPLE and they know it. Let's make sure they know it.

5. Anyone have any other ideas? About how we empower ourselves to get our message out? For instance, Negroponte: the blogs are all over this appointment... how do we get that to the PUBLIC?

6. Do you think White House ought to issue press passes to some of the blogs? The National Convs did... so, why shouldn't they get entree... I mean if jim/jeff can...?

Perhaps, as Sally and Nancy and others said last year looking at the inauguration chart --- the resident will be "crippled" so to speak, it will be a failed administration. Marjorie Orr said that also... Claudia is saying that... I mean his numbers are down and going further down...

So, remember no more MSM --- or 'mainstream'
It's CORPORATE Media or CM --or whatever catches on, but no more 'mainstream' --- heck the internet is where the stream is flowing :-)

Starrynights:
Powerful piece you linked to... would like to talk about that tomorrow...

Sally,
In all the hoopla over Gucker/Gannon I neglected to respond to the news about your daughter's wedding June. Blessings and light on you and yours. Sounds like an exciting time... bridesmaids dresses, etc. what fun. Enjoy!!!

Posted by: Jo on February 21, 2005 03:58 AM

Scott Ritter was right about no WMD in Iraq and that the admin was going to attack anyway - for which he was demonized and his "alleged"personal life brought out by the "liberal media" - (although we had all heard it was July the Iran attack would take place

amazing that they haven't been able to do a number on Sy Hersh-

and of course I would take bets that : "the source who helped plan the attacks" is Colin Powell.

Posted by: Pallas18 on February 21, 2005 04:02 AM

Well, I see the Scott Ritter thing has already been posted. How do we stop this madness? What are indications, astrologically, that the US will/will not bomb Iran in June?

Unbelievable.

Posted by: shylurker on February 21, 2005 04:08 AM

Sally, I'm very happy for you about your daughter's wedding too.

You guys aren't "getting" something here, and I'm sorry but I'm going to reiterate: this porn ring/ gay stuff HAS been going on a LOOOOOOONG time, as Sally said. The point is that it is just now becoming into the mainstream consciousness. WHY???? Because "they" want it to. Abu Ghraib was the window into it.

Posted by: Peg on February 21, 2005 04:12 AM

Peg, if you'll be so kind, I'd like to suggest that Abu Ghraib was the mirror image of it.

Posted by: shylurker on February 21, 2005 04:16 AM

OOPS.

It's said that Sy Hersh has many contacts in the pentagon and intel services and various govt agencies....but I thought it was Colin Powell...

while Hersh writes (in the article linked above)

"There was pressure from the White House, too. A former C.I.A. clandestine-services officer told me that, in the months after the resignation of the agency’s director George Tenet, in June, 2004, the White House began “coming down critically” on analysts in the C.I.A.’s Directorate of Intelligence (D.I.) and demanded “to see more support for the Administration’s political position.” Porter Goss, Tenet’s successor, engaged in what the recently retired C.I.A. official described as a “political purge” in the D.I. Among the targets were a few senior analysts who were known to write dissenting papers that had been forwarded to the White House. The recently retired C.I.A. official said, “The White House carefully reviewed the political analyses of the D.I. so they could sort out the apostates from the true believers.” Some senior analysts in the D.I. have turned in their resignations -- quietly, and without revealing the extent of the disarray. "

Could be McLoughlin, the second in command of the
CIA who was pushed out.

Posted by: Pallas18 on February 21, 2005 04:20 AM

these guys have been behind "coups" in countries around the world...and probably were helpful in the 2000 coup that happened here....the thought occurs to me ----they don't lose their contacts, even though they retire -and now that they've been royally screwed.......................

Posted by: Pllas18 on February 21, 2005 04:24 AM

Okay....(Knowing that this is as old as politics in the US. Knowing too how many have died trying to make it known.) "They" want this stuff about gay sex in WH to come out. Why?

See, I have trouble getting how "they" aren't just punch-drunk pleased with the war profits and the gung-ho attitude of the right wing nutjobs to pull down every last vestige of democracy so that they can finally have their Christo-fascist, feudal society.

Unless maybe they've just figured out that we can't really take on the whole world and make all its inhabitants into its slaves. Maybe they've figured out that we the sheeple need SOME sort of income in order to consume their "goods"? OR, maybe they are having doubts about survivability? Why all of a sudden such a change of heart?

Sorry. Not meaning to be argumentative. Guess I am feeling quite strident though. Been over at DU, dKos, etc. on a daily basis (as well as lurking here) and any sense of hope is nearly gone. Especially since the newest article (for which many thanks, Isabelle).

Peace.....really.

My, my my I smell fascism in the air. I'm watching what is certainly a rerun of a Fox news report on how liberal Hollywood is out of touch with the rest of America. First we had the Ward Churchill controversy and now the Nazis at Fox are going after the Hollywood liberal elite.
Once again those in control of the government are going after those in academia and the arts who have a different political or philosophical perspective than they do. The only difference is it's 2005, American conservatives are the Nazis and American academia and arts are their prey.

All of this a result of the masterful manipulation of 9/11 to remake American politics and culture--which makes you really wonder what happened on that day.

The Europeans Don't Like Bush.

I went to Sweden last summer. At long last, I got to fly home and visit many relatives. We were having dinner with my aunt & her husband in Tallkrogen (a suburb north of Stockholm).

I asked gingerly, "So.....what do you think of Bush?" Hesitation. A pause. The Swedes are not known for being flamboyant. If there was a fire in the house, the Swedes would ask to be excused before they went to put out the fire.

Clarence looked at me. His eyes narrowed. "We despise him". "Oh, they think they can fool us, just like they've fooled all the Americans". I shook my head. "No, I don't think so", I replied.

Suddenly, he got more edgy. "I've got business dealings with the Americans. My suppliers don't want to do business with them. It's just causing me huge problems".

His eyes were smoldering. "He's going to screw everything up -- our economies, our way of life". He waved his hand across his beautiful living room, where we were eating dinner. "All this", he said with glowing eyes, and sullenly stopped talking, and looked down at his dinner.

I couldn't disagree with him.

Travieso, you may just be right about The Beloved One (your post further up). Here is what K.N. Rao of Astrology Journal writes:

"At a glance, the presence of Mars in the Eighth house, though in its own house, and Rahu in lagna and Ketu in the seventh house is not an appealing feature. To add to it is retrograde Saturn, the tenth and eleventh lord in the third house aspected by Mercury, Venus and also Mars. Saturn in turn aspects the fifth house.

It is not a good indication at all and the fear of an attack on Bush during this term of office or an assassination attempt is so clear from this. This is not a good indication and Bush will need extra security not to get eliminated violently.

But this Saturn aspecting the seventh lord and getting aspected by Mars can mean the death of someone in his own administration and someone in his family which will cause him grief.

Posted by: Cliss on February 21, 2005 06:03 AM

There are many indications Cliss of danger in this administration, not only with GWB's aspects but the aspects of his entire cabinet, Blair's aspects and Sharon's. Some kind of huge blow up is in the offing, but where or where will this massive build up of energy fall. On the administration and leaders or on the people of America, UK and Israel? Uranus is a big player this spring, and things will happen in a blink of an eye.

Thanks for the kind words about my daughter's upcoming wedding. I've been a little nervous about it all. Katie is so much like my mother (whom I adored) and my mother was engaged to three different young men all at the same time, none of them turned out to be my father. They met, it was love at first sight, they eloped and truly lived happily ever after. All of Katie's siblings and myself keep holding our breath that she will indeed make it down the aisle. If not, the bride and bridesmaids have pretty dresses.

Roderick, you have a very good nose for smells and identification of the source of that smell.

Posted by: Sally on February 21, 2005 06:48 AM

Cliss,

My European and Asian friends continually write me with the same theme ~ They are very concerned about the continued worldwide chaos perpetuated by Bush and his recklessness and they worry about the repercussions on their own economies/lives. They feel very threatened by what they perceive as an insane man pushing the entire world economy towards complete devastation. ~ It appears that worldwide Bush is reviled and despised ~ I’ve told them that there is a lot of us here in the US relating to their concerns ~ Big Time ~

Thanks for looking at that chart for me. I just looked up those aspects in my intro-to-astrology book and you're right...it does look awful. It seems like there's a lot of anger, and I see the Chiron in Aquarius business playing a destructive role due to the square. There's soooo much anger in those aspects.

The key is the corporations. How do you stop the corporations? The WTO protestors: Are they the harbingers or are they the canaries? The Iraq Attack was for ownership of oil. Already Monsanto is in there with their genetically engineered, patented seeds, which the Iraqis will be forced to buy--each year. Star Wars is a total failure and guess who profits from each failed test--Carlyle. And don't even get me going on the pharmaceutical companies. And on and on.

How do we take on the corporations? America the Beautiful or America the Corporate? Not our choice, but our challenge.

Does anyone know of good astrological studies on the rise, concentration and future of corporations? And, of course, their correlation with fascism.

Gotta go to bed now. Heart hurts. Goodbye HST.

Eric Francis has written some interesting thoughts/speculations on Chiron thru Aquarius - enters tomorrow
http://planetwaves.net/astrology/chironinaquarius.html

Posted by: Jeanie on February 21, 2005 08:19 AM

There she goes again. That wise Shylurker.

"The key is the corporations. How do you stop the corporations?"

Right you are Shylurker. Indeed,

"Fascism should rightly be called Corporatism as it is a merge of state and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini

So, how DO we stop it/them?

We recognize Corporate Media is not responsible... that is, it does not have the 'ability' to respond. Look at the 2000 debacle, the runup to invasion of Iraq, the 2004 campaign and election, the Guckert/Gannon mess, the drumbeat for attack and invasion of IRAN. But we subscribe to cable, turn the tv on, subscribe to newspapers and 'news' magazines... feed the beast. Why? I suggested in a diary at dKos that we cancel cable, newspaper subscriptions, etc. until (if there ever is such a time) Corporate Media realizes more than 60% of Americans want the Democrats (or someone) to oppose *, 'stop him before it's too late'. Well diaries move at a furious space. One Kossack said my diary lacked a 'plan of action'... D'oh! Let's see a) call the cable company...

That's one of the big differences between Dems and Reps. Dems want to 'talk' something to death, Reps follow orders from on high, never bother to think or talk about it. There are pros and cons to both situations. I'm tired of thinking and talking. We know there is a huge problem... what are we going to do about it?

Jeanie,

Thanks for the link to Eric Francis' latest. Here again we hear about responsibility (Saturn?)... as in the piece I linked beginning of this thread. Remember the activism of the 60s? Francis talks about it creating so much. One of those activists died last night... the rest of us are too old to hit the campuses and streets again. The couch potatoes we begot are going to have to DO something. Francis had a quote from Wilheim Reich 1930s:

"Yet authentic freedom is a tremendous, even daunting responsibility. One must give up on the hope that some authority figure is going to keep everything in order. One must make choices and live with the consequences, or keep creating till you get somewhere better. These choices almost always seem to cut two ways. There are risks involved. In living freely, there is the need to cut loose from old moorings and live outside the safe bounds of our prior lives. This can be deeply disorienting."

Francis had a second quote from Reich written in late 30s which certainly speaks to these times:

""Intense longing for freedom, plus fear of the responsibility of freedom, results in a Fascist mentality, no matter whether it is found in a Fascist or a Democrat." In case you missed the point, he explains it again a different way. "Sermonizing about freedom, without the constant, resolute struggle to set the responsibility involved in freedom into operation in the occurrences of everyday life, together with the social prerequisites of that freedom, leads to Fascism."

To bad our fearless resident doesn't read... just talks about freedom.

Aquarius speaks of Freedom. Uranus rules... so does Saturn, which speaks to responsibility. Indeed one cannot be free without being responsible.

Sally says Saturn is coming. Francis speaks to Chiron moving into Aquarius... The times they are a changing.

Democracy dies without a free press and responsible citizenry.

One question each: Europe's leaders are awarded topics for their presidential chat
By Stephen Castle in Brussels
21 February 2005

As the leader of the free world George Bush is known to be a busy man. There have also been question-marks in the past over his attention span and dislike of protracted debate, but, even by the standards of the Bush White House, the assembled heads of Europe will be given short shrift tomorrow when they gather to address the President of the United States.

President Bush arrived in Brussels last night for his week-long tour of Europe. When 25 elected heads of state assemble tomorrow in the Justus Lipsius building, which houses the Council of Ministers, eleven of them have been chosen to address the US President on an international matter of importance, they will be allocated a minimal amount of time the betting is five minutes each.

Tony Blair will give a commentary on the future of the Middle East. The French President, Jacques Chirac, will attempt to sum up the intricacies of European integration. Bertie Ahern will speak for five minutes on the subject, bizarrely, of Russia. But the man who has been handed the short straw is the Slovakian Prime Minister, Mikulas Dzurinda, who will address a doubtless stony-faced President on the subject of Iraq. Mr Bush will speak for half an hour in the 90-minute meeting.

http://news.independent.co.uk/europe/story.jsp?story=613151

Further in the article, there's this:

"On the whim of a nervous US secret service, 2,000 Eurocrats will be sent home to keep the two EU buildings Mr Bush will visit as empty as possible."

Posted by: Jo on February 21, 2005 03:12 PM

Jo, you are so right about calling the media what they are and Not calling them "mainstream."

CM, Corporate Media is perfect. I'm going to use that from now on and suggest it to others.

(After reading your post I also thought of CON, Corporate Owned News. But that wouldn't be picked up and CM will. Also CM isn't nasty--it is just true.

WhaddaHOOT!!! And all those very special, very expensive "considerations" for the personal comfort of the bushaholic are not because it is so respected & admired upon the Planet... no, it's because it is so despised & hated & it greatly fears for the safety of its lil pink supremacist butt. Bushie might want to take a more than a 1 sec look at that dynamic... but it won't.

I do think the children are worth at least an honorable mention... mebbe a long black wall some place prominent... with their names etched in white.

"They are very concerned about the continued worldwide chaos perpetuated by Bush"

I think Cliss wrote that, but whomever did, thanks for reminding me.

Don't you remember, dimson in an early speech said he was going to bring chaos - and I do believe that was BEFORE 9-11, so everything is running on schedule-his chaos schedule.

And CORPORATE MEDIA. Yes that IS very appropriate.

It occurs to me that this is a domestic war.

Corporatism against Consumerism

That's another thing dimson said the first week he was selected - "I'm going to run the country like a corporation".

Of course you all realize that the Corporations have won. Remember that Pluto transits bring permanent change.

The drug companies are now allowed to foist off
killer drugs on the American public.

And the law was passed last week against class-action suits, so Halliburton won't have to pay again for all those people who are dying of a rare form of cancer from Halliburton asbestos (makes you realize that Darth Vader is behind a lot of this)and if your loved one had a heart attack or stroke and died from Vioxx, Celebrex, or Bextra - F U ! you'll have to hire a lawyer individually and try to get a jury to believe ONE PERSON died of it.....without bringing in thousands of others who had the same deathly reaction.

By the way, listening to Bill Maher, I learned that the "genetic engineered seeds" do not re-seed themselves. A bee doesn't come and take the pollen to another plant. Apparently the seeds are killing bees and butterflies ---well that's interesting...wonder what it's doing to us?

But how clever of them. If it doesn't respond to pollenation, then new seeds have to be bought every year...what a profit maker!

So let's see, who is running the country ?

Corporate Media lying to the country

Corporate Pharmaceutical lying to the country

Corporate Judges/Law lying to the country

Corporate Pentagon lying to the country

Corporate Intel Agencies lying to the country

Corporate Energy lying to the country

Corporate Health & Human services (strichnine in water level has been raised to new acceptable level - abortions cause cancer ) lying to the country-

Corporate EPA is killing the air and water and us.(and the laws have been revoked that they have to clean up the messes they have made by dumping deadly chemicals-

What does it mean to us? Besides that the consumer is screwed, I think it means as individuals that we have to be careful of what we ingest, turn to alternative medicine for healing, look at individual alternative energy such as solar panels, and so on.

If enough people were doing this and it catches on, it would make a dent in corporate profit, and make it less profitable to poison and perpetuate lies to the public.

Idealist that I am.

Yea, verily, Jo...

Catholics report 1,092 new sex abuse claims

[Says a poster: "For Christ's sake, let them have wives & girlfriends, will you?" Ummm... I don't think USING women as fire plugs upon which to "relieve" one's "needs" & "wads" is exactly the answer, do you?]

Excerpt: Roman Catholic leaders said Fri they received 1,092 new abuse claims against [ameriCO] priests/deacons last yr, even after they had already pd more than $800 mil in settlements during the long-running crisis over predatory clergy.

Bishops said, however, that the flood of fresh allegations was not a sign abuse was rampant in parishes today. Most of the alleged incidents occurred decades ago [Liars] & nearly 3/4 of the 756 accused clerics had died, been defrocked or been removed from public ministry before the claims were made in 2004, church leaders said.

Still, the financial fallout con't. Kathleen McChesney, head of the bishops' Office of Child & Youth Protection, said the total payout to victims has now climbed to at least $840 mil since 1950. "The crisis of sexual abuse of minors within the Catholic Church is not over," McChesney said. "What is over is the denial that this [1000s y/o] problem exists."

Says same poster: "They cld end this in 1 dy, but they choose not to. The Church & the crime of child rape have almost become one institution. [The Supremacist Dominator Old Boyz] can't figure out how to become non-rapists, or former rapists. They can't fight their way out of the "rape bag" in which they find themselves. They con't to coddle & protect the hunters of innocent prey. They deserve your money less than the DNC.

Saaaaaay!! Mebbe the Roman church cld be nicknamed "Roman Abu Ghriab!" That'd be right n' good. 'Course the same cld be said for many of xian groups, cults, private clubs, etc... not just catholics... or Greek Orthodox, incl a 90 y/o religio-coot, whose dominator sexual acting-out has just spewed all over from their old hole-y sewage tanks. ;O)

Posted by: JoannaOregon on February 21, 2005 05:44 PM

Peg,

I don't understand your comment. I see the smiley face... but I don't understand your point. Surely we have to do more in this 'world' than 'tune out'... isn't that what we are complaining about with so many who 'pretend' that everything is okay because their little world has not crumbled... yet?

As a teen I was obsessed with what I was told about the German people during the Third Reich. No one said 'no, I will not do that' --- that's not true, but as a group, they didn't oppose but built a bubble around their little world and went on day to day. I really could not wrap my mind around that... perhaps that's one of the reasons I'm in this here and NOW... don't ask for what you want, you might get it?

Please explain what you were saying to Shylurker.

WV I was going to post the same thing...scientists deny that the "magnetar" explosion had anything to do with the Tsunami, right - but they also don;t think the planets have any effect on the earth's atmosphere...bah humbug. Although they do accept that solar flares disrupt communications on earth.

There was an astrologer, I've mentioned him before whose lecture I attended many years ago...
Al Martin...somebody give me his last name - :)
who not only predicted solar flares but also wrote an ephemeris for them.

The scientists are saying if this "star flare" was closer it would have annihilated life on earth...but they're sure it didn't have anything to do with the Tsunami - say what?????

from WV's post:

"
Brightest Galactic Flash Ever Detected Hits Earth
By Robert Roy Britt, Senior Science Writer

A huge explosion halfway across the galaxy packed so much power it briefly altered Earth's upper atmosphere in December, astronomers said Friday.

No known eruption beyond our solar system has ever appeared as bright upon arrival.

But you could not have seen it, unless you can top the X-ray vision of Superman: In gamma rays, the event equaled the brightness of the full Moon's reflected visible light.

The blast originated about 50,000 light-years away and was detected Dec. 27. A light-year is the distance light travels in a year, about 6 trillion miles (10 trillion kilometers).

The commotion was caused by a special variety of neutron star known as a magnetar. These fast-spinning, compact stellar corpses -- no larger than a big city -- create intense magnetic fields that trigger explosions. The blast was 100 times more powerful than any other similar eruption witnessed, said David Palmer of Los Alamos National Laboratory, one of several researchers around the world who monitored the event with various telescopes.

Tsunami Connection?
Several readers wondered if the magnetar blast could be related to the December tsunami. Scientists have made no such connection. The blast affected Earth's ionosphere, which is routinely affected to a greater extent by changes in solar activity.
"Had this happened within 10 light-years of us, it would have severely damaged our atmosphere and possibly have triggered a mass extinction," said Bryan Gaensler of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA)."

US in secret talks with Iraqi insurgents – Time

TUESDAY , 22 FEBRUARY 2005

WASHINGTON: US diplomats and intelligence officers are conducting secret talks with Iraq's Sunni insurgents on ways to end fighting there, Time magazine has reported, citing the Pentagon and other sources.

The Bush administration has said it would not negotiate with Iraqi fighters and there is no authorized dialogue but the US is having "back-channel" communications with certain insurgents, unidentified Washington and Iraqi sources told the magazine.

The magazine cited a secret meeting between two members of the US military and an Iraqi negotiator, a middle-aged former member of Saddam Hussein's regime and the senior representative of what he called the nationalist insurgency.

A US officer tried to get names of other insurgent leaders while the Iraqi complained the new Shi'ite-dominated government was being controlled by Iran, according to an account of the meeting provided by the Iraqi negotiator.

"We are ready to work with you," the Iraqi negotiator said, according to Time.

Iraqi insurgent leaders not aligned with al Qaeda ally Abu Mousab al-Zarqawi told the magazine several nationalist groups composed of what the Pentagon calls "former regime elements" have become open to negotiating.

The insurgents said their aim was to establish a political identity that can represent disenfranchised Sunnis.

The White House had no immediate comment on the report.

When asked about the contacts, Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska, a member of both the Senate foreign relations and intelligence committees, said it was important to "reach out" in Iraq.

"We've got a very complicated and dangerous situation over there and you are going to have to reach out, you are going to have to develop some relationships and networks," he said on CNN's "Late Edition."

Controversial Iraqi politician Ahmad Chalabi said on Sunday the outcome of any negotiations between insurgents and the US military would not be binding for a new Iraqi government.

"I know nothing about such negotiations. Those negotiations will in no way bind the elected government of Iraq," he said in an interview with ABC's "This Week." "The issue here is not negotiating with the killers who are killing the Iraqi people."

Regarding Aquarius and Saturn....freedom and responsibility:

When Uranus transited exactly opposite my Saturn, my father died (my mother was already dead). The flash of insight into my new freedom, and how I was now completely responsible for myself, was magnificent. I had my lights on a malfunctioning timer, and when the realization hit...BOOM... the lights in the apartment went on instantaneously.

We might have some sort of opportunity for freedom (it's always there), but I totally agree that the readiness for responsibility is urgent. I believe that is why the leadership is so wanting now.
I also think we could support one another, connect with our talents, and build our self respect and confidence to help prepare. These dialogues are a great chance to help that unfold.

I like the idea of staying centered and balanced, with a impenetrable central core of strength in the face of a primitive, bullying, attacking, mentally diminished enemy. And also , study this entity, which we are doing now, and know it completely.

There are, of course, many theories as to how to react to the shock and awe blows. Some say resist, some say let the attack in and then pass through. Some say get out of the way.

Posted by: jm on February 22, 2005 01:00 AM

JM - I prefer "get out of the way". Each person's choice says something about them.

Pallas18,

Your "Walking Eagle" post gave me a great big laugh ~

With regards to Bush calling Forbes “Mean Spirited” I would settle for just “mean Spirited” any day compared to Bush ~Bush is a very angry, hostile and nasty person that is also prone to a violent temper. It pretty clear the many emotional aspects that create a compassionate and caring person are dramatically missing in Bush. I think he is so much like Nixon, but even “way” more insane. If you’ve noticed Bush has no problems with speaking off the cuff and not sounding like a moron when he is talking about violence/revenge/aggression to the unwashed masses. I think that is one big reason he is so overly handled/monitored by the people that are really running the Bush/Truman show. Those people are terrified Bush might say something inappropriate/frightening because they are aware how Bush will use expressions of violence and punishment to excess if allowed to run uncontrolled. I am extremely worried this sociopath/Bush will not be stopped before he sets the whole darn world ablaze.

Doctors, too, and starting to stand up and speak out against the madness! (line from an old CSN or CSNY song, I believe.)

"These are weapons of mass destruction," said Dr. Sidney Wolfe, director of consumer watchdog Public Citizen's Health Research Group, referring to the drugs. Wolfe, one of the most vocal critics of the pharmaceutical industry and the FDA, said the decision to leave COX-2 inhibitors on the market "defies common sense."

I think we have to keep in mind this Uranus transit that is coming: opposite *'s Mars, semisquare his MC, square Inaugural Moon, and square US Uranus. Something big is about to hit that will put Bush through some very big changes, turn things around dramatically. I continue to think the press is involved. Already we can feel Uranus impacting the press: look at the big impact of the bloggers suddenly. And the MSM is waking up and taking notice. They were hit over the head (Uranus) by Gannon's existence among them. Uranus rules the US 3rd house and so has a direct impact on freedom of speech and the press. Perhaps we will see a landmark Supreme Court decision regarding freedom. Anyway, I don't think we can assume there will be an attack on Iran in June because big unexpected changes are coming in late March and April that will impact everything else. In addition, late May and June have a tremendous amount of Saturn activity that will hold * back. Perhaps he will do something in August.

Thanks so much for posting your analysis, Nancy. Very interesting and gives us some hope. Maybe what he'll do in August is move back to Crawford permanently.

when Uranus hits, things turn on a dime... I hope your analysis is correct about June and Iran...

Shylurker,
It's hard to believe but Fundamentalist Christians are completely against The World Council of Churches. The “My Way is the Only Way” Fundamentalist Christians believe that all the religious groups associated with the WCC are all religions that are deniers of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, as shown in the Bible. They believe that the WCC has been formed for the express purpose of preparing the world for the Antichrist. I hope that the WCC will let the Fundamentalist Christians understand loud and clear that their narrow believe system is not the only way to find “God” and that they are a very insignificant and small minority.I just can't tolerate those Fundamentalist Christian Yahoooooo's!

Posted by: Starrynights/SN on February 22, 2005 02:14 AM

Well, Starrynights, if those fundy so-called "Christians" would concentrate on the New Testament (preferably focusing on what Jesus said about our behavior toward each other in MML&J, and giving short shrift to the Pauline parts), why, hell might freeze over and the devil and antichrist with it.

Pallas posted above:
Corporatism against Consumerism
That's another thing dimson said the first week he was selected - "I'm going to run the country like a corporation".
---------------------
This statement is ringing so loud for me.
I just got a little knocked off balance and have to post.... hope you don't mind me getting this off my chest!

It goes way, way, further than you think guys.

Since moving back to NZ, the country of my birth, I have been seeing, with growing alarm, the stealth privatization of NZ government essential services assets (the ones that my great-great grandfathers on down worked very hard, in the form of taxes, to build for their children - the assets that were supposedly owned by the citizens of NZ! - telephone and electric cables, railroads, etc. etc.) The railroads have closed, so now all freight goes by overburdened roads; telephone and electric companies are boasting phenomenal profits for their shareholders, whoever they are.

This morning I started searching around online regarding NZ laws etc and now have this overwhelming sense of horror. During the mid to late 80's certain laws were beginning to be put in place regarding privatization. With a little more reading I begin to find articles written like this:
"The transnationals- multinationals are not particularly interested in manufacturing or production sectors (risky investments for shareholders) but are rather more interested in essential national and subnational services and infrastructure - publicly owned health, education, energy resources, public transport systems along with other universally available public services.
The privatisation regime has been underway in NZ since the mid nineteen-eighties, carefully monitored by the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, facilitated by the a succession of trade agreements via APEC, GATT and now the MAI; and implemented by a succession of right wing governments- advised & guided by the ideologically driven neo-liberal New Zealand Business Roundtable."

So now, nobody knows who or what is a shareholder in any of these privatized companies. I have not met one New Zealander that owns any "shares."

And I found this book title which I shall have to check out -
Economic Fundamentalism: The New Zealand Experiment - A World Model for Structural Adjustment? By Jane Kelsey Pluto Press, 1995.

The New Zealand Experiment, Huh?
At about this same time, international corporations such as telecom and others, were using NZ as a test market for certain products and new technology. They found because it was so isolated, they could get a good feedback on whether something would be acceptable or not for other markets, particularly those in the US. For instance, phone cards were here before anywhere else in the world.

Our former local community "electric power boards" have been replaced with privatized, seemingly Enron type schemes, and it goes on and on. Right now even the local district governments have formed "corporations" out of former local government departments and they seem to be doing as they please with no transparency requirements or oversight. Get this, the shareholders of "Far North Holdings Ltd" a for profit entity, are the Councilmembers of the Far North Distric Council. But Far North Holdings being considered a for profit venture, is not accountable to the council or to the voters!!!
And they are setting themselves up in competition with legitimate private small businesses! You ask any of the locals around as to what is going on and how it works, and they just shake their heads in disbelief. Even my dad's accountant is shocked! Nobody locally knows quite what to do or how to undo these things that have been put in place at the national level.
Costs have skyrocketed and unfortunately the honest middle class kiwis are now having to work their asses off to survive and don't realize that sheisters are taking over control of this beautiful country!

Thanks, Jeanie, for posting that.

" noticed Bush has no problems with speaking off the cuff and not sounding like a moron when he is talking about violence/revenge/aggression to the unwashed masses."

Starry Nights - absolutely - it was obvious from the gitgo -
______________

Jeannie, you named the culprits that began it all,
it started with the banks - the WTO - the IMF, NZ must have been in big debt to them, or taken a loan....you've been G-8'd.

Just as this country is being G-8'd -or not being - has been G-8'd.When a country owes the WTO or the IMF, they demand that all social services and support programs be cut so that their loan can be paid quicker.

Have you checked your bank charges and credit card charges lately. It used to be called usery and only loan sharks charged such interest but now they're allowed to charge 37 and 47 % interest now.
____

Thanks Sharon, I'll go take a look at that mag.

Posted by: Pallas18 on February 22, 2005 03:38 AM

Ah yes, the banking. Another outrage here is banks are now almost all Australian controlled, and charging outrageous fees. Big investigations underway. Also, the small local country newspapers are being bought up by, yes once again, Aussie ownership. The land that brought you ....drum roll please .... yes, the Murdock Media empire.

Posted by: Jeanie on February 22, 2005 04:14 AM

Jeannie,

Put up a stink , write letters to the local newspapers and media about the lack of real news
put out by Murdoch's papers...that Faux news in the states is merely a far right wing propaganda mill for extremists and this type of misinformation, disinformation and propaganda should not be allowed in New Zealand...

Jo, you asked me about my comment to shylurker, and I've written several explanations, but then deleted before posting. I guess because it would take too long for me to try to get it right here on the computer. I wish we could have this discussion in real life, because I'm sure it'd be very enjoyable. Suffice it to say, that I referred to Jesus' message to illustrate that one has innumerable choices in how to respond to people & events. Sometimes, when weirdness descends, it can be easier to pretend to go along. Much like putting on a different outfit, we can choose to "change clothes" at any given time, or "go into another room". It doesn't alter the reality, but can serve as a grounding mechanism while we gather and compose ourselves. Escape doesn't have to mean avoidance. I think it can be useful though in achieving a detachment that facillitates better choices of response. I hope that helps, because I wanted to respond without writing a novel.
