DESTINY
A strong nation, like a strong person, can afford to be gentle, firm, thoughtful, and restrained. It can afford to extend a helping hand to others. It's a weak nation, like a weak person, that must behave with bluster and boasting and rashness and other signs of insecurity. Jimmy Carter “Destiny” is one of those open-ended words with a feel of romance and finality. We can apply “destiny” to nearly everything and everyone. Our meeting was “destiny,” “destiny brought me to this town, or job or friend or lover or child.” I have clients all the time ask me “what is my destiny,” I almost always say, “what are you doing right now.” Destiny is synonymous with Karma and Webster defines Karma as Buddhism and Hinduism – the sum of a person’s actions in one of his successive existences thought to decide fate for the next life. Fate, destiny, karmic. Implicit in that definition would be that we are simultaneously working off the old Karma in our present destiny and creating a new future destiny. Talk about a careful juggling of balls. Karmically we are connected to a myriad of people and situations. As an example our Karma may be attached to a sick child as they with us, even though we won’t experience the same thing, we are attached. We are attached to our neighborhoods, friends, jobs, towns, state, families, countries, these things hold the key to our destiny and if we move or change our situation, we expand or change our destiny in ways we cannot see. Every single action is a choice, every thought is a choice and every person has an impact. We look to leaders to define our destiny and they will as long as they are given the power. December 11 at 8:28 pm Washington, DC an unusual New Moon graced us with her presence. As many astrologers throughout the web have pointed out the planets are lined up naturally. Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, with the NN straight up at the Mid-Heaven. In Western Astrology planets move counter clockwise, and in Vedic Astrology they move clockwise, when you look at this chart, we are either going backwards or forwards, astrologers get to pick how they will read the chart and interpret accordingly. More than the direction of the planets, it’s how they aspect the US chart that intrigues me. New Moon Chart US Chart
20: Keynote: The foresighted use of natural resources to supply future needs. Jupiter conjuncts the US Saturn in the 3rd House of the New Moon, a probable attempt at restricting information (what else is new) but Neptune ruling gas, fog and leaks trines Jupiter ensuring that information will continue to flow through this month and the information will come from the allies of the US. Oh I don’t mean allies of the US Government, I mean the allies who love the people and are concerned about them. Normally I would see a New Moon in Sagittarius in the 5th house surrounded by Pluto and Mercury (even if it is retrograde) as happiness and connecting to our inner joy with power, some potential happy news when Mercury crosses the shadow of the 20 degree Sun, but what I do see with this New Moon is low energy. Not really depression more of an emptiness, hungry for something but don’t know what. The superfluity of Sagittarius planets in the 5th house promises the wisdom to find what that hunger might be and to open new channels of positive energy for ourselves and this country, now would be a good time to watch and learn what “mystical healing” is within the universal energy that surrounds us if you have an interest in doing so. For some of you the concept of being able to manifest your reality will be foreign and for others you’ve understood it for sometime and are already successfully working with the energy. The sudden opening to a higher or evolving consciousness will be there over the next two weeks for everyone, plus with the Sun/Moon on the Asteroid Arachne the feeling of intrigue will abound. Enjoy watching the intrigue but we don’t need to make it relevant to our daily lives. The higher and sacred octave of Sagittarius (which we may chose to apply) is the urge to live freely, openly and expansively, but they personally love intrigue for the possibilities it holds and they are able to observe and comment upon their observations without getting stuck in the emotionality of a situation and this New Moon promises the same Sagittarius energy to us all. Find where Sagittarius is in your chart and look for that area to be illuminated over the next few weeks. If you feel disconnected or drifty, you are well on your way to the shift.
With the New Moon in Sagittarius falling in the US 1st House of self, we, as a country will be trying to exert our power over others and our arrogance will be showing with a swift slap down by the rest of the world, someone is going to make us look foolish. Mars and Venus will fall in the US 12th, as a country we will have a hard time seeing our friends or enemies. Mars works well in Scorpio but not well in Neptune’s house. The down side of Mars in Scorpio (and you will see the downside from the 12th) is a lack of ambition, super-sensitive, projecting emotions out onto others, seeing insult where there was none and starting arguments with others or they starting it with you. Mars in conjuncts GWB’s Uranus and NN, while Sun/Moon oppose, we will be treated to his swaggering egotism and insensitivity. Turn him off so you can enjoy the holidays and begin taking your energy away from this government. He who cannot be named is losing his sway over the rest of the world. They are rapidly isolating the US and ignoring this President. It won’t be long before Europe will be saying to us “you are either with us or against us.” When people start figuring out that most of the world isn’t afraid of or against our government they simply consider us losers at this point, we will begin to change our attitude as well. America is very close to being the World Wide Joke. We defend murders, crooks, rapists, addicts in this country, but we don’t defend losers. The “Nascar Dads” don’t like losers. The world is moving on, only the US, Iraq, Israel and Palestine and parts of Africa are locked in an old paradigm. Sagittarius lets words come rolling out with humor but no thought. Look for some great worldwide cartoons and jokes that will hit their mark, as we have become caricatures of ourselves. When Pluto came roaring out of the US 12th house he brought all our dirty 200 year old secrets with him, and those secrets will continue to be revealed to us and the world at least until Pluto hits the Galactic Center at about 26 degrees of Sagittarius. True to a Mutable New Moon there is a lot of things happening this month, some will be happy some won’t as we continue on our road to a new way of being. What I’ve listed above is only a small part of what we can expect.
The recount is being shut down but it will eventually be completed. Don’t say “not in time,” because we don’t know, please remember we are creating our future right now. If they don’t finish for 6 months, that will be the exact time the second term will be going way sour that’s a bad time for Americans to realize this isn’t their president. DNC This weekend the DNC was interviewing the candidates to be the head of the DNC and Howard Dean had excellent aspects and I expect did very well. If they make their decision this weekend I think he has an excellent chance. If he doesn’t get this position he could be a corner stone to reviving a viable third party. STOCK MARKET In the Denver Post today they had a list of the winners and loser in the falling dollar and we can look for opportunities here. Winners Losers Tourism Importers And the weaker dollar could force central banks and investors to sell due to rising interest rates in this country. Foreigners hold more than 41 percent of this country’s public federal debt. Japan, China, UK, and the Caribbean Banking Center (whoever they are) would be the big owners of the United States. After those four, in descending order are South Korea, Taiwan, Germany, Hong Kong, Switzerland, OPEC, Mexico and Canada. This is just our public federal debt and does not include the amount of corporations, land, and public entities they own, that is in addition to the federal debt. Here are our illusion folks, when we fight to save the United States of America; we are fighting to save the financial solvency of these countries as they do us. Now we have been put into a position where there countries don’t need us if we cannot “play” with the rest of the world. Our policies have not always been for the “greater good of all,” and Pluto demands that we “play” for the greater good of all or we lose big time. The New World Order on this administration’s mind is different than the Globalization on the minds of the rest of the world. In the New World Order we will have to give up everything to feed that beast. Globalization involves compromise and fair sharing with other countries so everyone can win. Sagittarius the Global Wisdom sign potentially gives us the insight to chose the better path with the possibilities of prosperity for all countries, not only the few. I will end this where I begin, as an astrologer one can look at this chart as going backwards or forwards it is our choice. For me looking back only holds illusions of a democracy not a true democracy. I am taking the Vedic interpretation of the New Moon planets and count them as moving forward.

Nice piece Sally. Sounds to me as if you have heard the same message as I have, "Watch what is going on but don't let it make you crazy." Time to get that Sagittarian otherworldliness. I'm pretty busy anyway with the upcoming transit of Pluto on my n. Saturn; 26deg. Sag./3rd house. I'm trying to open up to it but it's still a ways from exact conjunction. What I have notice, though, is the beginning of the unearthing of spiritual knowledge I have acquired over many lifetimes. I not sure where this will all lead, but I want to thank you and everyone on this site for giving me a forum in which to share ideas(even some of the more outlandish ones)and receive constructive criticism. Could I ask you for something, though? Like yourself, I'm an astrologer(not as active as you, I spend more time in research/observation), and it is often difficult to read your own chart. Any ideas on this important Pluto transit to n. Saturn you can share? If you need more, here's my birth info: If anyone else would like to chime in I would deeply appreciate it. Love to you all, Thanks you so much for the wonderful article, Captain Sally. Amazing the amount of "food for thought" you pack into each paragraph. Must go read this again. And again, I'm sure. Posted by: shylurker on December 12, 2004 07:05 PMhttp://www.daykeeperjournal.com/crystal.shtml As we count the days to the apparently impending rule by a non-elected Republican regime, whose platform focuses on promoting cruelty and fear around the world and divesting US democracy of its remaining shreds, the December sky seems darkened to a more ominous shade of grey than the dear, clean tone of winter. Against this backdrop, the Moon in begins a new cycle in Sagittarius, reminding us that there are angels here to assist us in choosing a vision above and beyond worldly appearances and mind-control programming. A Course in Miracles points eloquently to the distinction between sight and vision, a difference which depends on free will and which the Sagittarian within is capable of choosing. When we discover our vote doesn’t count, nor, does it seem, can our will to save the environment, the post-Bush vestiges of human rights guarantees or nations—such as Haiti and Iraq—under siege by our own government, we may be tempted to feel there is little worth doing. Mass media and much of industry seem intent on keeping us in zombie mode, where victories appear limited to a false kind of security: in the shell of material comfort and status quo, safe from the "foreign" enemy, and spiritually encapsulated in fundamentalisms of the most intolerant brand. Luna now beckons us to remember: Don’t buy it! There is a purpose to your existence, and angels are here, helping you make each day a victory in freedom and in love. Our prayers during the portal of her current cycle are designed to open the windows of our souls and the marrow of our bones to that call, and share its power with all of creation through the magical rays of our minds. Connect with the angels
The angels and other helpers from the invisible plane literally flock around now; connect with their assistance by remembering aloud: Humanity is not alone in its quest for a higher, more meaningful vision. The divine helpers are here with us, assisting us in every way that’s necessary to believe in ourselves, in our higher destiny and assisting us as we persist in making each day an act of freedom and of love.
More... Posted by: Pat C on December 12, 2004 07:15 PMExcellent as always Sally. Posted by: Pat C on December 12, 2004 07:15 PMThanks Shylurker Mark you are right, you are a couple of years away from Pluto crossing your Saturn. Looking at the sextiles from Saturn to Jupiter in Libra and Venus in Aquarius, your Saturn is at the apex of that potential yod and when Mars swings around in 2007 you will have some kind of shift or change of "destiny." A new path and I expect you will be happy about it. You cannot prepare for Pluto except emotionally because Pluto will strip away anything and anyone you don't need for self-actualization, even if you think you do. But Pluto will put something better in its place. Posted by: Sally on December 12, 2004 07:21 PMAnd thank you Pat C Posted by: Sally on December 12, 2004 07:23 PMSally, no wonder I keep coming back to this site. Thank you so very much for this article and explaining tomorrow's chart on the previous thread. You're the best! I will re-read a few times before I comment further. Posted by: Laurie on December 12, 2004 07:25 PMLaurie, one thing I didn't say or explain in the other post about tomorrow is the Pluto Sun conjunction in the 12th house. That would be hidden power struggles behind the scenes, what I hope is they come to light because Jupiter (ruler of the Sun/Pluto in Sag) is in a trine to Neptune and those power struggles come to light. We have to always keep in mind that these are Universal aspects covering the entire world and there is more than one event in the world at this time and they would all be subject to these aspects at this time. Posted by: Sally on December 12, 2004 07:43 PMa very cool article Sally. Seems like all the astrologers I read are on the same page with this, which definitely gives me comfort for feeling "disconnected and drifty" lol. Mark Krueger says: "The amperage of the drama in this world and the parallel worlds is going into hyper mode. It will distract you more and more fully into chasing your tail/tale.....There is an increasing flourish of desperate acts in the microcosm and the macrocosm. All the other-dimensional, spiritual beings are as whacked as folks down here. Unhinging between dimensions is taking place. This is a dense mind bender. All stops are being pulled out as those Good Guys go on a bender against the Bad Guys. Only problem is that the Bad Guys are simply the shadow of the Good Guys and it will become evident that they are shooting their selves in the foot and taking out a lot of peripheral folks while they are at it. You may be able to feel this grand unhinging. It's that deep anxiety that you think is you but is the very nature of the mind at both the spiritual and incarnate levels. More and more the spiritual agenda will be seen as a mad projection denial state of grievous proportions. What has been the refuge will be seen as the refuse (all, I mean all, meanings of that word implied). I'm not talking about folks that have sold their souls to the devil. I'm talking about the folks who have sold their souls to the god. Can you see how much worse that is than the so called devil's bargain? Can you see that way more folks have sold their souls to the god and that all of that is coming fetidly ripe in our era. We are talking divine stinkin' thinkin'. This is the madness of our life and times, say hallelujah. This is the dregs of the fading Piscean Age. The Aquarian Age can't even get on without shedding this dogged do on it's soul. If the shoe gives you fits, take it off." so observing the craziness that continues to escalate is on the "to do" list, (unless I take our pal Eric's advice on the mystical healing, and just have sex, sex, and more sex; uh-oh, I better watch out for strangers at the door, creating my reality with thoughts like that!lol) oh yeah, dang it, I wanted to comment on this: "information will continue to flow through this month and the information will come from the allies of the US. Oh I don’t mean allies of the US Government, I mean the allies who love the people and are concerned about them." How 'bout the news that Rabbi Dov Zakheim, former capaign advisor to George Bush, chief financial advisor of the DOD, Undersecretary of Defense at the Pentagon, agent of the Rothschilds, was the mastermind behind 9/11???? Would that count? Posted by: Peg on December 12, 2004 08:17 PMOh dear Peg, do you need a handler to arrange your schedule? He is right, the veils between diminsions have been thinning for about 10 years as we evolve into a higher consciousness. It's happened in other times in history as we went from 1 dimensional to 2 to 3 and now we are on our way to 4 maybe more. Science has long known that we use only 10 percent of our brain, well some of those unused chambers are being opened and there are folks who don't understand what is happening and are fighting it tooth and nail out of fear. I disagree that they are as confused because I have received tremendous help from them when I asked and stepped over my fear and mistrust. It really isn't "them" it's us from another parallel dimension able to manipulate matter or different matter than we are. Trust, faith and no fears can move mountains. The man we called Jesus tried to explain that concept to a three dimensional world. Posted by: Sally on December 12, 2004 08:25 PMPeg, where did you get that information, oh my gosh that would more than qualify. Who put that information out. Was it the Rabbi? I love it. This message, though, is for you. Of course, we adore Guido and have enjoyed his stay here with us under the bed. He is completely rejuvenated (and I do mean in all ways). Late yesterday, I went to our hydroponic garden to gather some herbs and there he was levitating above the Spanish lavender. I'm wondering, though, since he's all recovered if it might not be advisable for him to return to you. I'm sure you have missed your spirit guide tremendously. (Plus, he's, well, hogging the spa and Jacuzzi and, of course, expects Ouida May to accompany him so he won't be lonesome. If you catch my drift.) what a nice surprise to sign on and see a message just for me. i haven't even posted yet. well, you know guido, just fix him up with some herb(s) and he starts levitating. i figured he was enjoying himself since i'd not heard from him in a while. send guido and ouida may back east (on jet blue, a dem airline) and i'll take care of both of them for a while. thanks for being such a gracious hostess!!! hydroponic huh. like it. -------------- merry CSF (commercial shopping festival) i'm in a rush but will read your full post later sally. This would be a nice December surprise, wouldn't it? Again, not confirmed yet. Oh, I do hope this is true. I've had so many hopes dashed so severely beginning with stolection returns night in 2000 when--all of a sudden--the Gore thing in FL inexplicably reversed. Posted by: Peg on December 13, 2004 01:44 AMInvestigative Reporter Gary Webb Found Dead "Gary Webb, an investigative reporter who wrote a widely criticized series linking the CIA to the explosion of crack cocaine in Los Angeles, was found dead in his Sacramento-area home Friday. He apparently killed himself, authorities said. Webb had suffered a gunshot wound to the head, according to the Sacramento County coroner's office. He was 49. His 1996 San Jose Mercury News series contended that Nicaraguan drug traffickers had sold tons of crack cocaine from Colombian cartels in Los Angeles' black neighborhoods and then funneled millions in profits back to the CIA-supported Nicaraguan Contras. Three months after the series was published, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said it conducted an exhaustive investigation but found no evidence of a connection between the CIA and Southern California drug traffickers. Major newspapers, including the Los Angeles Times, New York Times and Washington Post, wrote reports discrediting elements of Webb's reporting. The Los Angeles Times report looked into Webb's charges "that a CIA-related drug ring sent 'millions' of dollars to the Contras; that it launched an epidemic of cocaine use in South-Central Los Angeles and America's other inner cities; and that the agency either approved the scheme or deliberately turned a blind eye."... Posted by: shylurker on December 13, 2004 03:17 AMBoy is that a well hidden piece of news! MEDFORD LAKES, N.J. -- Federal officials say a private club in Medford Lakes will have to pay for flood recovery itself.
The board says the federal Small Business Administration has rescinded an offer of a low-interest loan of $500,000.
The SBA cited concerns about whether the board might be able to repay the loan while defending itself in lawsuits. Property owners in downstream communities are suing the group and the Medford Lakes, blaming those two for the flooding. If Kerry is sending that letter, it would explain the Sun/Pluto in tomorrow's chart in the 12th, back room, hidden power struggles, leaking out and becoming public with the ruler of Sun/Pluto (Jupiter) trine can't keep a secret Neptune, there is still a long way to go but just writing the letter should make the media sit up for something beside a paycheck. Posted by: Sally on December 13, 2004 04:59 AMUnbelievable...someone who supposedly committed suicide has "multiple wounds?" Great article, Sally. Posted by: aq_rising on December 13, 2004 05:09 AMYet another great article, but I'm wondering... I've no doubt that many more "embarrassments" are in store for the US [and we've been "losers" for a while, now. Especially since we, collectively, sat on our asses and let coup II/selection 2004 happen]. But that's not something that will ever be noted in the mainstream press, so the net effect is only that those of us who are already thoroughly embarrassed will feel moreso. 75 - 95 percent of Americans will continue to believe that "we're the greatest, God loves us best...and everybody else is just jealous!" If, now and again, a small glimmer of truth pierces our veil, we respond with belligerance and defiance [favorite national pastimes], not introspection. Who will have the guts to tell the American people that we're a bunch of losers and the rest of the world doesn't want to play with us any more? Hell hath no fury like an American not flattered [obsequiously]. Hoping against hope, A French aristocrat once said, "You can always count on the Americans. They always come around and do the right thing, after trying everything else first." We are now in a "trying everything else first" phase. Excellent article Sally!!! Neptune has been working overtime in the last several years. Is it making alot of aspects, in certain house, or is it just me? Sometimes I feel like I'm drowning in a sea of Neptune, living in this country. Posted by: Dave on December 13, 2004 05:48 AMWe have been drowning in Neptune Dave since 2000 and it crossed the US South Node, since then it's either been aspecting this administration or the United States. I know what you mean about it personally, I've been dealing with it as well and "weird" has become the norm for me. Neptune is now inconj the US Sun and GWB's (Koolaid anyone)It was a big player in the 2000 election and 2001 Inaugural chart, I know with all the honesty coming from the WH since then, you will be surprised to find out they've been lying since day one. It was a big player in the 2004 election and it will be in the Inaugural chart. (although not quite as big) I wonder if Neptune being a King of the Sea is acting out because he wants us to pay more attention to our spirituality, faith and his ocean. Neptune is wonderfully creative but not good for mundane affairs. Pisces usually do wonderfully well with Neptune, creative and brilliant while the rest of us are fish out of water and flopping around. I have to tell you, half the time I carry on a political conversation with an independent or a moderate Republican or a non-partisan or a non-political type, it's like there's some sort of barrier in the communication. Either they don't listen, don't believe you, or don't care. And it's a little different with each person. Sometimes it's like having a conversation with someone living in a different universe. Sometimes, it's like there's a finite number of ideas in a person's head and everybody's heads are already full. Sometimes the other person doesn't believe ANYTHING they haven't encountered on their own, almost as if I was making up a piece of news. And sometimes a person has ideas that just don't follow from each other, as if their world view is comprised of a bunch of non-sequitors. What I'm describing may sound like a Mercury related problem, but alot of people I know have been experiencing this sort of thing to an unusually large extent in the last several years. It kind of makes me wonder if Neptune and Mercury aren't related astrologically, because the Neptunian illusions seemed to skew the Mercurial communications, and the the Mercurial communications mediae perpetuate the Neptunian illusions. But here's how I know that Neptune is the problem: I'm a good communicator. I did debate in high school, and did quite well. I ran a freakin political campaign and designed compelling literature in the process. And I KNOW it was damn good, certainly compared to what our opponent was producing. I can communicate. You read this post. You understand it. You agree and know what I'm talking about. But alas, preaching to the choir isn't the problem here. Mercury isn't the problem. It's the people that don't agree or just don't know. At some point, fighting the Neptunian fog becomes like trying to cut air in half. It just doesn't work and it's not worth the effort. You know, when I look back on the energy of this administration 20 years from now, I'm going to think of Mars, Neptune, and Pluto. But I will mostly remember the frustration I felt at Neptune. Common wisdom suggests that you fight lies with truth. But I'm starting to question this wisdom. Obviously you can't fight lies with lies, but strictly as a matter communications, truth seems to only cancel out the lie (at best) when both are immersed in a Neptunian fog. It's like if two people are standing in fog: a deceiver points one direction and says we need to go this way, and then a truth-teller points the opposite direction and says no we need to go that way. Even though one person is lying and one is telling the truth, in a fog, the rest of the people standing there are going to conclude that we just don't know. This isn't the desired outcome. Maybe the answer is to stay put until the fog clears. But if that's not an option, then the next best alterative is to get a fog light. What's the archetypal equivalent of this? The Sun? Maybe the beginning of a way out of this is the recognition that Mercury can't fight Neptune. If surrounded by fog, all the talking in the world won't solve the problem. You need something more potent. Use this analogy when thinking about how to break the Neptunian spell. Maybe there are some good ideas out there. I'm going to stop ranting now. Posted by: Dave on December 13, 2004 09:26 AMA fog horn seems to be the only answer. Oh Dave, I know exactly what you mean about talking to Republicans and the "seperate worlds" we live in. What's so interesting is how differently we live our lives and what we value. It just shows how divided we are as a nation. I'm from a red state, but a BLUE County (Austin, Texas). Where I work, alot of republicans complain about the "liberal austinites" in the city compared to the generic and sterile suburbs up north. I think that different people react to the Neptunian transits to the US chart in different ways. Neptune is the illusionist, but it is also the healer and can bring out a sensitivity to others. My mother was a big believer of "Free Will Astrology", and I lean that same way. I think it is partially up to us to deal with these tranists the best way we can. There are no "bad" planets or "bad" signs. I just think its how we deal with them. With my Scorpio rising, I have always heard "don't trust a scorpio" by amateur astrologers, and resented that. Likewise, for some of us Neptune is the "illusionist", but to others, it has brought out a sensitivity to the victims of this unjust war. That's my two cents. We are certainly involved in examining those at this time... for most of us - they have been shrouded in layers of veils of illusion... and perhaps they now appear in confusion, fog... if you like. Or, in disillusion, disappointment... or perhaps fear... if they veils are dropping too rapidly. Venus and Moon are in mutual reception in my natal chart, and Neptune conjuncts the Moon across signs and with an orb of 7/8 degrees. Cancer rules my 11th house, so this being came into this dimension with tremendous attachment to family and country, shrouded in layers of emotion and illusion. Thanks to Uranus and Neptune transiting my 4th house years ago, and Pluto transiting there now, opposed my nSun... I am changed! So, do not fault Neptune... it is our use of the energy that is important. Is Neptune ‘hiding’ events, or... are we unwilling to ‘see’? Too painful, too frightening to view? At this point in time, I feel overwhelmed with information... I’ve ‘got’ the message... question now for me is, what to do with it! One message comes forth from my inner space daily... compassion is the lesson now. For you realize of course, that just as our children must experience life for themselves, stumble over their own stones... we cannot take the ‘truth’ to others [Socrates would ask “what is truth?” and what would I reply?] We are all of us at some place in this ever-moving process. At the risk of offending the hostess, I would offer some clarity here concerning ‘destiny’... and I trust Sally, that you will have compassion for my efforts ---- and my lack of manners. You stated in the beginning of your article: “Destiny is synonymous with Karma and Webster defines Karma as Buddhism and Hinduism – the sum of a person’s actions in one of his successive existences thought to decide fate for the next life. Fate, destiny, karmic. Implicit in that definition would be that we are simultaneously working off the old Karma in our present destiny and creating a new future.” Rude, upstart Gemini Sun that I am questions that destiny is synonymous with ‘karma’ and also Webster’s definition of Karma [this is not the first time I have had a problem with now ‘corporate’ Webster, which sometimes neglects to go to the ‘source’ for definitiveness... did they ask a Buddhist for the definition of ‘karma’?]. Refuting the erroneous view that "whatsoever fortune or misfortune experienced is all due to some previous action", the Buddha said: "So, then, according to this view, owing to previous action men will become murderers, thieves, unchaste, liars, slanderers, covetous, malicious and perverts. Thus, for those who fall back on the former deeds as the essential reason, there is neither the desire to do, nor effort to do, nor necessity to do this deed, or abstain from this deed." It was this important text, which states the belief that all physical circumstances and mental attitudes spring solely from past Karma that Buddha contradicted. If the present life is totally conditioned or wholly controlled by our past actions, then certainly Karma is tantamount to fatalism or determinism or predestination. If this were true, free will would be an absurdity. Life would be purely mechanistic, not much different from a machine. Being created by an Almighty God who controls our destinies and predetermines our future, or being produced by an irresistible Karma that completely determines our fate and controls our life’s course, independent of any free action on our part, is essentially the same. The only difference lies in the two words God and Karma. One could easily be substituted for the other, because the ultimate operation of both forces would be identical. Such a fatalistic doctrine is not the Buddhist law of Karma. Karma is the result of our own past actions and our own present doings. We ourselves are responsible for our own happiness and misery. We create our own Heaven. We create our own Hell. We are the architects of our own fate. Karma does not necessarily mean past actions. It embraces both past and present deeds. Hence in one sense, we are the result of what we were; we will be the result of what we are. In another sense, it should be added, we are not totally the result of what we were; we will not absolutely be the result of what we are. The present is no doubt the offspring of the past and is the present of the future, but the present is not always a true index of either the past or the future; so complex is the working of Karma. In short, Karma is the law of cause and effect in the ethical realm. Both the rational and the spiritual aspects of this being reject determinism, or pre-ordained fate. I cannot view destiny and karma as synonymous. The concept of destiny is a romantic notion as stated in the beginning of the article (imo also); ‘karma’ on the other hand, is the law of the universe: cause and effect - that is to say, for every action there is a consequence.

Right on target, IMO. Difficult to accept however...especially when one feels strongly about their "truth". As to Karma and Sally's article, I would like to (carefully) point out that my reading of her article led me to think that she agrees wholeheartedly with you about the essence of Karma - her use of Webster's for a definition notwithstanding. I'm a "big picture" person (who happens to do research - go figure) so when I read I often get a global sense of a message rather than discrete bits of info. I explain this because what I took away from Sally's statements about Karma is that it is that combination of working out our past (a chance to learn the lessons afforded by our past choices) and simultaneously creating our future, both of which we accomplish in the "here and now". This leads to what Sally called "quite a juggling act". And so it is...especially if you consider (as I do) that time is illusory. Thus, as we act in the present we are also afforded an opportunity to recast that which has already occurred - and thus to "change" the past, (as well as the future). Some here know what I'm talking about. Anyway...the point is, I think there is general agreement on the meaning of karma here. And yes, it is quite different from "Destiny" (predetermined fate?)- although as I see it, it is karma (together with the many energies with which we interact in a lifetime) that allows us an opportunity to create or choose our "destiny". Jo: that's why I specifically said "Webster's" definition. I have a group of monks living across the park from me and I asked them if I could use that and they said essentially yes and that up until a few years ago (about 40) that was the understanding of Karma and it was used as an explanation but no longer because westerners understand the word destiny differently than Buddhists or even other eastern religions and they updated their meaning to encompass the western view, much as the bibilical scholers keep updating or explaining the bible in light of western interpretations of words. Sorry if I misled but it seemed the simplist way to get my point across because the article isn't about Karma, but about the interconnectedness we have to people, situations, events etc. Dave: It might not be neptune or neptune might be in a progressed aspect to one of your planets or it could be Saturn. Posted by: mike on December 13, 2004 05:54 PMDilip, I do have that chart and have looked at it from time to time. There are quite a number of US charts as the time was not recorded except at the Smithsonian and a time of 2:00pm giving a tropical asc. of 5 Scorpio. and Sideral of Libra. It isn't clear however why the Smithsonian has that time stated because there isn't any material to back it up. The Silby chart has the Sagittarius Asc. (tropical) and there is a Gemini Asc. chart, but that would have had to have the signing very very early in the AM and I believe it was either Franklin or Jefferson (I could be wrong on that) who complained of the afternoon heat and flies while debating the points of the Constitution. I have used them all in my career, finding a good deal of accuracy in the Scorpio chart (Western) however since 9/11 it's been hard to use anything but the 5:13PM Silby chart because Pluto and Saturn fell exactly across the Asc/Des of that chart, and 9/11 was consistent with that kind of aspect. The Hindu's are using the Dasha/Bukti system with the Virgo (Western, Leo in Sideral) asc. and it is possible with that system to gain some accuracy in the Sideral system through the planets and houses because the Hindu system uses the whole house system and the Asc. and Mid-heaven doesn't have the importance it does in the Tropical system. Nor does Hindu astrology look (not the strict system) at planets beyond Saturn, making the transits of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto a mute point for them. From my tropical (western) filters I have a hard time making the 10:21am chart working, but I know people who make it work and people who make the Scorpio and Gemini Asc. work for them. From a Vedic perspective and their whole sign emphasis and exceptions to their rules, it wouldn't be too hard to make any chart on 07.04.1776 work out. Their Dasa system and transits to it, is a really good predictive tool, and there again taking the day could also give fairly good prediction. Most astrologers can connect the time of day by appearance and events in a person's life, although it is a specialized study in order to do it well. One final note, if the Hindu's did use the outer planets of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, then Pluto would be in the 4th house of the 10:21 chart opposing the mid-heaven signaling a breakdown of the US Government, as in the elimination of the government and that does seem to be the plan of the present administration, however one can find indications of that happening with the other charts as well. Hope this isn't too confusing. Posted by: Sally on December 13, 2004 06:48 PM Shylurker...have tried and tried to open that sacbee link. Broken? Can you repost or ????? Muchas gracias, Posted by: KM on December 13, 2004 06:53 PMKM, I'm sending you to DU. See if you can't get right through with the link that's been posted there: Posted by: shylurker on December 13, 2004 07:38 PMIndeed, I have withdrawn my interest in this government to a great degree-however, I do keep up with the tide of events that is determined to keep isolating this president-it IS happening-one just have to be very observant. "The down side of Mars in Scorpio (and you will see the downside from the 12th) is a lack of ambition, super-sensitive, projecting emotions out onto others, seeing insult where there was none and starting arguments with others or they starting it with you. It won’t be long before Europe will be saying to us “you are either with us or against us.” Mike, when you said 12:30pm did you mean Ohio or Virginia time? It would have been 11:30am in Ohio and 12:30 in DC or Virginia. At any rate I took the 12:30 time and Neptune and Uranus are in the 12th, Neptune just over the 12th house cusp. As an event chart and it was "their" event (kind of like looking at a wedding chart, it's a story of the bride and groom's life not the guests) so one would take the chart as what the electors can expect. Pisces is on the Asc. ruled by Jupiter in Horary (event) astrology. Jupiter is sextile Mercury and trine (separating) Neptune. Mercury is retrograde and dibilated in Sag. Moon and Saturn are in their sign of fall and a mutual reception. The almost exact square from Jupiter to the Moon would indicate a lot of false hopes for the event and perhaps have jumped the gun. The Retrograde Saturn and Mercury is not the best omen for their success in the long run. The interesting thing about this chart is the asteroid Urania is exactly opposite that Moon. Urania is an energy that succeeds on facts backed up by intuition. The more the recount group continues to emphasize the principle of making sure the vote is honest, the more support they will gain, because it's in opposition to the moon in the 11th covering groups of people (the 11th is an Aquarius house) so groups (the people) would resonate to the principle as opposed to facts alone. Posted by: Sally on December 13, 2004 08:28 PMKerry Lawyer Seeks Ohio Ballot Inspection http://www.latimes.com/news/custom/showcase/la-op-novak12dec12.story Robert Novak: How Does He Stay Out of Jail? Last week, lawyers for Judith Miller and Matthew Cooper were in federal court fighting the reporters' jail sentences for refusing to disclose who leaked them the name of a CIA operative. So where was Robert D. Novak, the syndicated columnist, CNN talk-show host and uber-insider who started this mess back in July 2003? Citing sources in the administration, Novak had written that Valerie Plame, wife of a former U.S. diplomat critical of President Bush's Iraq policy, was a CIA spy. Turns out it's illegal for government officials to name spooks. Senators quickly called for an independent investigation, and the hunt for the leaker was on. Miller, of the New York Times, and Cooper, of Time magazine, were hauled into court. They refused to testify and now face up to 18 months in jail for contempt. In Washington, there's only one question more pressing than who leaked Plame's name: Why isn't Bob Novak going to jail? Theory 1 Novak was never subpoenaed D.C. bookies give this possibility the longest odds. Why would independent prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald subpoena Miller, who never mentioned Plame in print, but pass on Novak? Fitzgerald refuses to comment on the case. Unless Novak, nicknamed the "Prince of Darkness" by his critics, has worked some bad mojo, it seems unlikely Fitzgerald would overlook the most obvious witness. Theory 2 Novak was subpoenaed but refused to testify This is also a long shot. Novak's reputation as a publicity hound is almost as pedigreed as his punditry. Miller and Cooper have become 1st Amendment heroes by refusing to testify. So if Novak also refused to talk, why isn't he bragging about it? And why hasn't Fitzgerald threatened to chain him in leg irons alongside Miller and Cooper? Theory 3: Novak was subpoenaed but (a) invoked his 5th Amendment rights or (b) received immunity If Novak is a criminal suspect, he can refuse a subpoena to avoid self-incrimination. But it is unlikely Novak could be prosecuted for naming Plame, say legal experts. "To prove that Novak broke the law, a prosecutor would have to convince a jury that he was basically sitting in meetings with White House officials saying, 'OK, this is how we are going to do this,' " said Floyd Abrams, a 1st Amendment expert representing Cooper and Miller. Even if Novak is a suspect, there's a wrinkle. Courts have ruled that 5th Amendment protection disappears when prosecutors grant a witness immunity. Fitzgerald has declared the leakers his real target. So why not give the columnist a get-out-of-jail-free card in exchange for testimony? Theory 4 Novak was subpoenaed and has already testified This theory is a cocktail-party favorite. Novak is reviled by the left, who are angered by his loosely verified scoops and the effectiveness of his attacks. Nearly every journalist interviewed for this article, all of whom demanded anonymity, said they thought Novak had already spilled his guts. The theories run from the pitying ("Bob wouldn't last 12 seconds in jail. They don't serve martinis in there") to the conspiratorial ("The testimony was taken in private, it was totally secret, and I'm sure it was in a dark room. There may have been pentagrams and burning candles"). If Novak has already testified, however, why is the investigation ongoing? Some suspect there are multiple leakers, so even if Novak revealed his sources, prosecutors want to make certain Miller and Cooper spoke to the same people. But if Novak did talk, why no arrests? Theory 5 Novak is a target As Abrams explained, it may be a long shot to prosecute Novak for printing Plame's name. But what if the cover-up was the crime? Let's say Novak did something during the investigation that amounts to obstruction of justice or perjury. Fitzgerald, eager for a courtroom win but reluctant to indict a Bush official, may choose to focus on Novak, and is busy building his case. Novak has denied this explanation. "To the regret of many people, I am not a criminal target," he told a roomful of University of Wisconsin students this month. If Miller has any regrets about taking the heat for Novak, she isn't airing them. "I feel no animus against Bob Novak," she said last week. "He's a journalist and he should protect his sources. But given what's at stake, I hope he will eventually disclose his own personal situation." For now, he's not. "I don't talk about the Plame case. Period," said Novak, when contacted for this story. "OK? Period." http://www.townhall.com/columnists/BIOS/cbnovak.html Robert D. Not to get false hopes, but........remember when we agreed to meditate for a week sometime after the election, as a birthday gift? I chose to do a meditation on the day of a worldwide "day of peace" meditation. With strong intent on pulling energies of earth, the animate and inanimate alike, and the planets to join in this moment (it seemed to me they were fairly pleading to be involved) I began a reflection on "peace" and bringing about "the higher good of all". I saw several images - all quite moving, and some startling. One: people walking about in day-to-day business just stopped in their tracks and started looking up into the sky. I don't know what they were looking at. It was powerful. But I didn't share it here... Well, recent events in Ohio make me think of that vision together with my inaugural vision --- when I saw Kerry "wounded" on his way to the podium...remember I also saw him healed and ascend the damned thing to be sworn in. I've dismissed most of this as wishful thinking. But I want to share now...cuz what the heck! A little wishful thinking can be a good thing every once in a while? Maybe what I saw was actually an alternate reality - one where wishes come true. Or....maybe they both relate to what is to come??? In either case, I wouldn't encourage anyone to get attached to the wishes, as part of our work here is to learn to work within the reality we have (not the one we might wish, to quote an infamous public figure). I'm not claiming to know. But with some of the aspects being discussed, I wonder............... Posted by: KM on December 13, 2004 11:30 PMwow, KM, thanks for sharing that. Sickened....I've followed his career for years.....and my friend in central CA who is a writer interviewed him c. 1996 and asked him if he was afraid of the CIA getting him for his exposes on cocaine and narco dollars....and he said no, it was his fellow journalists who would do him in....David Broder wa And Oh...Mike...no wonder you never reply to my posts....I have 0 deg Scorpio rising....so I have actually been told that some great things should be happening for me....like maybe you'd just say "hi" and not think I'm loaded for revenge? There ar three types of Karma 1) the overall (do not remember the sanskrit names, sowwy) Karma, the big sandwich of accumulated Karma throughout all your lifetimes. 2) the bite out of the sandwich you reincarnated to work on in your current body 3) Karma accumulated for the next lifetimes. What I learned is that we carry our Karma in the 720,000,000 'nadis' or light tubes that comprise the astral body. They are cleaned out by doing yoga practices:meditation, chanting, japa or silent mantra repetition, selfless service or seva. The Kundalini or Chi or Goddess energy rises like a flame being fanned by the practices. Like all good women she 'cleans' ;) and expels the Karmas out of the tubes of nadis. In it's place she leaves her own light residing there forever. Thus saints are Karma free beings and call enlightened or 'in lightened'. We can expel all of our Karmas in one lifetime to get off the wheel of cause and effect. To my understanding one needs a guru or an initiation teacher to open the sleeping kundalini in the base chakra to start her cleaning spree. Matthew talks about our economic system: http://www.citiesoflight.net/Matthew.html A lot of us must be tuning in to the Universal Energy because talk about the economic health of the US and indeed, the world, is prevelant(sp)lately. The ultimately purpose of Scorpio energy, if evolved, is emotional healing for others. Scorpio is the only sign with 4 symbols 1. Scorpian 2. Eagle 3. Dove and 4 Phoenix Their promise and potential is to acknowledge and embrace their darkside leading to understand and compassion for everyone's dark side. Sometime through their life they will crash and burn and rise as the Phoenix. Not every Scorpio is evolved, in fact no matter what the sign, not everyone is evolved and will use the lower qualities of their sign. But if a Scorpio, after going through their promised trial by fire, rises from that with a new understanding the are the most potent force for healing of all the signs. I will be happy to post all the positive and negatives of all the signs if you wish and if you are honest with yourselves you will see a bit of yourself in both the negative and positive. If you cannot you still need sometime to embrace yourself and evolve to an understanding, acceptance and love of others. And by the way I am a Scorpio and I've learned these lessons the hard and painful way, and had to look at myself honestly and take that next step to embrace and love all my qualities. Hope all of you have the same opportunity because after the tunnel there is fantastic freedom and peace. Posted by: Sally on December 14, 2004 09:46 PMThanks Sally. Posted by: Pat C on December 14, 2004 10:44 PMI guess whatever spiritual practices one has done in this and past lifetimes, accumulated in the nadis, are taken to the next body, but so are the karmas. The subconcious mind being understood by the conscious mind. All those hidden feelings that were supressed are now being expelled. I've had to pretend to be a tame raptor more than once. ;-> Sally, I appreciate your post about Scorpio. I have no Scorpio in MY chart, but my last 2 children both have Moon/Pluto conjunctions in Scorpio, one with an almost EXACT conjunction at 0 degrees Scorpio (my son who is 21) and my daughter has Moon/Pluto at 6 and 7 degrees respectively (she's 17). I've often wondered what this could mean. They are both quite intense, but one is a Sag (my son) and one is a Leo (my daughter), so they are certainly very different. It scared me the first time I realized they BOTH had this (made me wonder what kind of mother I must seem to them), but I am convinced it's not about me, it's about them, because I have a wonderful relationship with both. Anyway, don't know why I brought that up, except that I've always wondered what the meaning might be and what it has to do with me (Moon ruling the mother). Posted by: Laurie on December 15, 2004 01:12 AMThought it might be of interest that I have a Pluto/Mars conjunction at 20/22 Leo respectively. That has a feeling of Scorpio, no? Namaste and truth!!! And Shylurker, now that you're famous, will you crawl out from under your bed long enough to autograph my ephemeris? ;-D Posted by: Garry on December 15, 2004 04:49 AMGarry, between progressions and solar returns Neptune is with us for awhile, Pluto is squaring it now and that should help lift the fog a bit particularly when Neptune goes off the Inconjunct to our Sun the first of January and that should help. But it's there for awhile as other planets hit it and visa/versa. I went to a leadership training tonight and it was all women, all with leadership positions, all VP's or CEO's in their corporations and all complaining about GWB and the mess we are in and what they can do to impact the situation. All are standing up to their boards and higher ups. All pointing out the mess this administration has gotten us into. All see it as fascism and a dictatorship, all are wealthy, furious, and trying to find a forum where they have a voice and all have sent money to the recount effort. It was amazing. It was powerful. Laurie Moon/Pluto kids usually have a very very deep attachment to their mothers. I have 4 kids, a Taurus, Sagittarius, Aries, and Scorpio but all of them have a a lot of Scorpio in their charts, as do I. My Pluto squares various planets in their charts and that used to worry me too, they are all grown and are very close to me. The two children that my Pluto squares the most of their planets (The Sag and Aries)are extremely close. Anyone who has 8th house planets or planets that aspect Pluto, no matter the sign, has a strong Scorpio flavor. That's true for all aspects with outer planets. Example: My Sun and Venus trine Jupiter, while I don't have any Sagittarius Planets that still gives me a Sagittarius flavor to those planets. In my family everyone had Sagittarius planets but me (my sister, brother, mother and father) all my kids also have Sagittarius planets, I don't, but my Jupiter aspects at least two of their planets. So you have to look at the whole picture with your kids charts. I expect however that with the Moon/Pluto they will have a deep devotion to you the older they get. Posted by: Laurie on December 15, 2004 11:42 AMFrom the Myss site:
Awareness of archetypes dates back at least to the time of Plato, who called them Forms. Plato believed that these eternal Forms were reflected in material objects. The Form of Beauty, for example, is abstract and applies to all beautiful things; as different as the individual manifestations of Beauty may be--a beautiful person, horse, or flower--the Form itself never changes. The great Swiss psychologist Carl Jung developed this idea further. For Jung, archetypes comprised psychological patterns derived from historical roles in life, such as the Mother, Child, Trickster, and Servant, as well as universal events or situations, including Initiation or Death and Rebirth. Along with our individual personal unconscious, which is unique to each of us, Jung asserted, "there exists a second psychic system of a collective, universal, and impersonal nature that is identical in all individuals." This collective unconscious, he believed, was inherited rather than developed, and was composed mainly of archetypes. Although archetypes are impersonal patterns of influence that are both ancient and universal, they become personalized when they are a part of your individual psyche. Since your Sacred Contract is embodied in a support system of twelve archetypes, it is best to think of them as intimate companions. They provide the foundation for your personality, drives, feelings, beliefs, motivations, and actions. But archetypes are not passive entities floating around in the psyche like old family portraits hanging in a dusty corridor of your ancestral castle. They take an active role as guardians and inner allies, alerting you when you are in danger of falling into destructive or "shadow" behavior. The Saboteur, for instance, warns you when you are in a situation in which you tend to sabotage your own best interests. Once you learn to recognize such a pattern, instead of ignoring it or denying its presence, it becomes your friend and can help you avoid selling out. The Shadow All archetypes have "shadow" manifestations as well as positive aspects. The shadow has power precisely because it remains in the dark; we tend to deny its presence in us because we consider it unacceptable. Only when we face and acknowledge the shadow's presence can we neutralize its potential negative impact on us. The Rebel archetype, for instance, can be a powerful force leading us to reject illegitimate authority and strike out on a bold new path of action. (Samuel Adams, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Gandhi, and Martin Luther King, Jr., all had powerful Rebel archetypes.) But if we let our awareness lapse, the archetype's shadow aspect can induce us to rebel against legitimate leaders, or to fall in love with the image and trappings of rebellion (think of the rebellious angels in Jewish, Christian, and Muslim lore). Likewise, the Queen archetype can help you assert your power, take charge of situations, delegate authority, and act with benevolence. But the shadow Queen may run around barking out orders, making impossible demands, and cutting off heads! Once you learn to recognize the difference between the two responses -- and their common source -- you can harness the Queen's constructive power while mitigating her shadow wrath. The first step in learning to work with your archetypes to interpret your Sacred Contract is to determine which 12 archetypes make up your support team. Posted by: Pat C on December 15, 2004 07:30 PMCaroline just started a whole new dicussion forum section devoted to discussing the symbology of global events WHAT OUR TROOPS WANT FOR XMAS: ARMORED HUMVEES ... AND AN EXIT PLAN By Arianna Huffington If there is one thing Democrats should have learned from Karl Rove during this year’s election, it is the value of relentlessly attacking — day in and day out — your opponent’s perceived strength. Well, from now until Congress is asked in January to vote on the next $80 billion the president wants for the war in Iraq, not a day should go by without Democrats shouting from the rooftops that the White House is shamefully betraying the very troops it so vociferously claims to be supporting. Last week, one brave soldier’s question opened the door on this scandalous subject. Now it’s up to Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi — and all citizen-activists who have learned what a difference they can make — to kick the door in, and force the media to spend some of the precious oxygen consumed by Scott Peterson’s sentencing and Bernie Kerik’s nanny on the dangerous mess in Iraq, with first on the list the deplorable treatment of the young men and women we’ve sent there. Some, like Sen. Joe Biden, have begun making the case. “This was a war of choice, not necessity,” said Biden last week. “Why is it that, 20 months after Saddam’s statue fell, our troops still don’t have the protection they need?” He’s right, but these kinds of pointed attacks have been scattershot. To really make a difference, the loyal opposition desperately needs to mount a concerted and impassioned assault on Bush’s bankrupt Iraq policy. And the ammunition at its disposal is devastating. For starters, as Army Spc. Thomas Wilson pointed out to the shockingly-still-in-office secretary of defense, our troops continue to have their lives put in jeopardy due to a lack of properly armored vehicles. Indeed, half of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq might still be alive if these basic tools of a modern Army were available. Let me repeat that: half of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq might still be alive if only our troops had been properly equipped. What’s more, one of the companies that makes the protective plates for the Humvees used in Iraq said last week that it could easily have increased its output — if only the Pentagon had asked. Remember how often on the campaign trail the president trotted out his sure-fire applause line, promising, “I’ll make sure our troops have the best. They deserve the best”? Maybe he was referring to the quality of their funerals. Then there is the deceitful way his administration continues to underreport the number of injured and ill soldiers, leaving as many as 15,000 off the Pentagon’s official casualty count because their wounds — including spinal injuries, bone fractures, heart problems and mental disorders — were not the result of enemy fire. Eighty percent of these soldiers were injured so severely that they never returned to their units — but, to the Pentagon, they are not even worth counting. As for the injuries they are willing to tally, the numbers tell a chilling tale of suffering. For instance, American soldiers in Iraq are having their limbs amputated at double the rate of previous wars, while Army suicide rates are soaring, up 40 percent in the past year. Some of the latter can, no doubt, be traced to the lack of a clear purpose guiding our troops. “That,” says Iraq war vet and Operation Truth founder Paul Rieckhoff, “is the most basic tool a soldier needs on the battlefield — a reason to be there.” And it can’t help morale to have the administration repeatedly invoking stop-loss orders (many just in time for the holidays) and turning decades of Pentagon policy on its ear by calling on troops to serve multiple tours of duty overseas. The situation doesn’t get much brighter once the troops finally make it home. Twenty percent of the nearly 28,000 Iraq war vets who have sought help from the Veterans Administration were diagnosed with a mental disorder, including major depression, anxiety disorders, panic attacks, emotional numbness and violent outbursts. And, stunningly, Iraq war vets are already starting to turn up at our nation’s homeless shelters, the first drops of what homeless-vet advocates fear could become a deluge. The rotten cherry on top of this disgusting sundae? Reports that wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital are asking for donations because the government refuses to pay for their long-distance phone calls. Feel like talking to your loved ones while you recover from a wound you received fighting for your country? Not unless you can get someone to give you a handout. That is, if you still have a hand to put out. Yet here was Rummy claiming: “We’re focused on the power of saying ‘thank you’ to people. And not just ‘thank you’ to the troops, but also their families.” As long as it’s a local call. The time has come to stop being cowed by accusations that criticizing the war is the same as criticizing the troops and to start speaking the truth: Tens of thousands of young American men and women are having their lives destroyed because of the Bush administration’s willful negligence. As Sen. Biden said, this was a war of choice — and the president chose to wage it before our forces were properly equipped for battle. Convinced that the people of Iraq would, in the words of Paul Wolfowitz, “greet us as liberators," the administration wildly miscalculated. The original war plan estimated that we’d have as few as 50,000 troops in Iraq by the end of 2003. Instead, as we head into 2005, the White House is pushing troop levels to 150,000 — the highest since the invasion. All because the president refuses to course-correct. Which is, after all, the only reason Rumsfeld still has a job. Iraq is Bush’s signature offering to the world — and firing Rummy would be like McDonald’s deciding to pull the Big Mac off its menu. Instead, the president continues to operate in a fog of denial, serving up rosy assessments of the mayhem he has unleashed. Just last week he held fast to the notion that the Iraqi insurgency is the result of “the few people in Iraq that are trying to stop the march toward democracy.” Even the Pentagon puts the number of insurgents at 20,000, while the British military estimates that it’s closer to 40,000 or 50,000 (and that’s on top of the 24,000 Iraqi rebels who have already been captured or killed). I guess it depends on what your definition of “few” is. For a more clear-eyed judgment on Iraq, I suggest the president turn away from the mirror and the small circle of yes men and women he surrounds himself with and listen to Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel. “We were unprepared for what we are facing in a post-Saddam Iraq,” said Hagel. “But too many of our leaders in this administration were going around the country reassuring Americans our troops had everything they wanted. Certainly the Congress was passing a lot of money to make sure they had everything they wanted.” So where exactly has the $150 billion we’ve already spent in Iraq gone — if not to “make sure our troops have the best”? It’s a question that Democrats in Congress should demand an answer to before they rubber-stamp an additional $80 billion for Iraq right after the president is sworn in for his second term. The loyal opposition needs to finally start opposing this administration’s most catastrophic failure — and make it clear that standing up to its delusions and incompetence is standing up for the truth. © 2004 ARIANNA HUFFINGTON. Jean Posted by: Jean on December 16, 2004 12:30 AMJean - I've always thought of myself as "evolved" since I decided religion was not for me at age 8 and I found the Seth books at age 21 and it changed my life completely. Yet, I went to classes to figure out my past lives and when it came to regression, my heart would flutter and I could not for the life of me conjure up any past lives. I have been told by many that I am an old soul, haven't we all heard that, but I think I don't REALLY want to know my past lives. I truly wonder why. I found this important petition on Buzzflash, requesting Barbara Boxer to contest the election. ( There's a Rep ready to step forward.) http://www.contestthevote.org/ If this doesn't work, go to Buzzflash & find the article requesting B Boxer to contest. Sally & Laurie, As I mentioned, my moon conjuncts Pluto in Leo (and opposes Mercury in Aquariusd). My relationship with my mom (whose Venus was in Leo but did not seem to aspect my moon) was so deep and penatrating; our bond was so strong that it seemed to transcend everything. At the same time, we had lots of squares and oppositions and fought quite a lot, but the conflict never interfered with our very deep bond. I think we also had a Neptune link as there was a very high spiritual feeling to our relationship as she became ill with dementia and other illnesses. Somehow she never lost her spunk and sense of humor and was always so beautiful to me. As far as past life literature, I like the Brian Weiss books and scanned a little of his latest work (I think it's called "Many Bodies, Many Souls"). It's extremely interesting. I once had a hypnosis/past life regression, maybe 6 years ago, and came up with a vision of being a poor "serf" with a wife and children, living in a straw hut, etc., struggling through winter. I don't remember if, in my vision, I was able to apprentice myself to a stained glass master who taught me to create cathedrals windows, a profession which gave me great spiritual bliss, or, if I yearned to do this profession, did not follow the call, and missed the opportunity to find my purpose in life. This did speak to me, though, about my creative and spiritual urges and how following them (better yet, combining them) would bring me a spiritual high that transcends all else. Just thought I'd share that. Meanwhile, I'm waiting eagerly for the Bush administration to f**k up so bad that Bush & Cheney have to resign at some point. Maybe they'll each give their health as the reason, but we'll know the real reasons. Namaste,
I have read many books. What you want to do is get someone who is a copetent experienced hypnotist first. Take care who you work with. If the person who is doing it is really good, it is a very healing thing in many ways. If the person does not start by asking some medical questions, they may not be that trained or experienced. Some can handle the medical problems and can even help you work thru, but they need to know it in advance and should ask certain ones that can be set off by hypnosis. And very clearly any real regression is a form of hypnosis. CAn I say 100% I saw past lives, no I can't but it sure was helpful. And it leaves with a bit of a high so you don't just go jump in your car and drive away, take time to come down off the high or take a friend. And for goodness sake record them and make the mike close to your face as you may think you are talking loud, when in reality, you are whispering. And you won't belive what you did not hear until you listen to the tape. Posted by: Jean on December 16, 2004 05:26 AMI found Bob Novack's birth date up several posts back. I did the pre eclispe Lunar and Natal. L 13 Aries 47 And S 27 Libra 46. Then looked at the transits for the chart for Feb 18, 2005. It is kind of wow. And the transiting Neptune/Pluto midpoint is 28 Capricorn Oppoisit Natal Mars. And that pre eclispe is sq. Bush Sun. Look how his Neptune gets set off by Uranus. And much more. I wonder if perhaps he does not talk about that time and blow the top off lots about the Bushies. And even his Natal Uranus conjuncts that pre natal that squares Bush Sun. Hope some of you great readers will take a look at this and see if I am right or wrong. Just by transits, it sure looks like a biggie. Posted by: Pat C on December 16, 2004 05:58 AMJean How cool about the new moons around Earth! How exciting; I wonder what they will name it! The Cruithne were the first Celtic racio-tribal group to come to the British Isles from the European continent, and were a matrifocal society, appearing between about 800 and 500 B.C. They were also known as the Picts. Cruithne was also the name of the wife of Finn Mac Cumhail in Irish mythology. As for the pronunciation.... I did regression work with a friend one summer using the advanced Silva Methods. It was very informative to have your partner ask something along the lines of: "What past life is most important to your life now?" Also tried one group progression and a lot of people got similar views of the future. I recall many people seeing supplies being limited and not nearly as much being available to buy at a grocery store around 2020. One computer friend saw himself working on the Moon than too but wasn't sure if it was in a new body or his old one! It was puzzling and I wish we could have done more work to find answers. Such as: If there isn't fuel how could they get to the Moon but not move products around the world? Posted by: Jill G on December 16, 2004 06:28 AMThanks so much for sharing the info on Cruithne. Fascinating!! People should read Joshua Micah Marshall's Talking Points Memo analysis of the social security debate. He has excellent advice. ...And now for some words from my favorite columnist, James Carroll.
By James Carroll | December 14, 2004 ONCE A WEEK or so, I come downstairs in the morning to find that the three weights of the grandfather clock in the living room have fallen to the bottom of the oaken cabinet. To keep the clock going, they must be lifted on their chains. I dutifully open the glass-fronted door and grasp each brass cylinder, pulling down on the chain as I bring the weight up -- first one, then another, then the other. I close the door carefully, waiting for its fitted snap. Once again, the weights will do their work to keep the pendulum swinging, the chimes sounding every 15 minutes and the gong striking on the hour. In this way, in concert with the force of gravity, I assure that time does not stop in our house. I must occasionally remind myself that in fact, nothing important depends on this clock's ticking. When, through my neglect, the weights descend to the cabinet floor, the chains become twisted and askew, the pendulum drifts to a halt, and the chimes fall silent. A precious harmony is broken, but the earth stops neither its rotation nor its course around the sun. Time does not stop. Birds chirp in the morning and darkness later descends no matter what happens in the living room. The clock is a sacrament of the passage of time, a way to note the movement of one day into the next, a method of location in the otherwise uncharted ocean whose two horizons are the past and the future. Mariners are fond of saying, especially when the ship unexpectedly runs aground, that the chart is not the sea; similarly, the clock is not time. I propose this image for our new and urgent discussions about religion. In America, a religious divide has suddenly emerged as politically decisive, and in the world, religion is a runaway engine of violence. A fanatic fringe of Islam asserts its doctrine by joining suicide to murder in Allah's name. In Gaza and the West Bank, some hypernationalist religious Jews stake claims to land with God as guarantor -- disastrous consequences to Palestinians and Israel both be damned. Similarly, America's war in Iraq has evolved into a two-sided holy war, even if only one side explicitly defines it as such. Meanwhile, mainstream churches waste themselves in conflicts over sexual identity, the new meanings of marriage, and mysteries of the medical frontier -- arguments in which "God's will" is invoked as if sacred texts elucidated the biology of genetics, postsexual reproduction, open-ended lifespan. The "religious right" fervently seeks to impose its definitions of the social good on the devout and the indifferent alike. "Bright" nonbelievers, in turn, match the absolutism of the zealots of faith with absolute rejection. Such ferocity of human arguments over God, whether in affirmation or denial, reflects a terrible forgetfulness. Religion is to God what the clock is to time. Religion participates in the mystery of what it represents but does not embody that mystery. Not even Christianity, with its self-understanding as a religion of the incarnate Word, does more than enshrine that Word in symbol and sacrament. Indeed, "Word" is the clue, since all religion, however infinite the object of its worship, remains bound by the finitude of language -- and language always falls short of its purpose. That truth applies to religion and science both. Words are to what they aim to express as the clock is to time. That is why silence, too, is a mode of worship. And it is why, also, the language of science always leaves room for what is not known. When I come down in the morning and see the weights of the clock near the bottom of the case again, my heart sinks at the evidence of the passage of time. But the clock is not the motor of such transience. Arguing over religion is like arguing over a clock, which is precisely what happens, for example, when Darwinists and creationists clash. Their great fight is less over the deep mystery of being than over which timeframe to use in measuring it. We humans naturally reach toward transcendence, seeking symbols with which to make it present. Religion and science are ways of doing this. So are poetry and music. So, for that matter, is clockmaking. Yet transcendence, by definition, transcends. We should be modest, therefore, in the claims we make on the absolute. And equally modest in the claims we make on one another in its name. James Carroll's column appears regularly in the Globe. Sorry for the double post - I guess you are all sleeping on the other side of the world! LOL Thank you Dave for the lovely James Carroll article. I just love his thoughts. Thank you all you beautiful Astroworlders for sharing your spiritual experiences. I also have done one regression, and found it to be very helpful in understanding events and emotions in this space in time. This is my favorite place on the web. Laurie and all, these posts about past lives are very interesting. I now (reluctantly) feel sure that reincarnation is true--but never have been interested in knowing anything about my past lives. I figure I've got all I can handle with this one! Once when I had a chart reading I showed the (very good) astrologer a photo of my daughter without mentioning her birthdate. The astrologer said "Ah, look at those Scorpio eyes. She is an Old Soul." True on both counts. I would like to take some credit for her character and wisdom, but it would be like taking credit for the peaches when, after all, it was a peach tree you were nurturing. As for me--I have a strong feeling that I am a "Young Soul." I suppose there have to be some. I've been thinking of putting my order in for my next life. Maybe it won't help, but like chicken soup--it can't hurt. Posted by: Barbara on December 16, 2004 10:01 PMSally...you wrote: I am wondering if there will be momentum eventually because of this? The continued loss of Venezuelan oil poses an enormous obstacle to the Bush War Machine.
