THE POLAR EXPRESS
As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and
more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day
the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the
White House will be adorned by a downright moron."
H.L. Mencken (1880 - 1956)
H.L. Mencken was a popular conservative satirist and philosopher in the 20's, 30's, 40's and early 50's. He was also the quintessential elitist. It makes me smile to think how shocked he would be if he knew that his prophetic presidential "moron" would come from his own party.
I don't know if Kerry and Edwards jumped off our hope of a Christmas Train, but right now I like to think that like the new Tom Hanks movie "The Polar Express," all is not what it seems.
Neptune is still inconjunct the US and Bush Sun, still creating a fog of confusion for us all, and Ohio is a Pisces state, more Neptune. The now direct Uranus conjuncts their North Node. If nothing else comes of this Ohio recount, we need to send a strong message as voters that it is vital in a democracy that our votes count. One or two precincts that are off are one thing but a quarter of the state is quite another, not only Ohio but other states as well. We are tired of all this that's for sure and perhaps afraid of our hopes being dashed again but this is our country and we have to get up as citizens and do what we can to participate in a democracy.
I don't care if the Democratic leadership is walking around with their thumbs in their mouth, babbling incoherently as the Republicans dressed in leather and chains, crack the whip over them. We out number them, unfortunately we seemingly forgot the country belongs to us and we handed it over to people like Tom Delay, George Bush, Kerry, Edwards, Cheney and good grief Zell Miller.
The "blues" might believe their government are liars and cheaters, all scamming us, and not caring if we are betrayed. The "reds" ( you know, considering that just a few decades ago the catch phrase was "better dead than red" I think I would demand another color) might be afraid their guy didn't really win and they would lose in a recount. And I say without a recount and a demand by the blues and reds for honesty and truth in government we will all lose something far more valuable than this election. We will lose our status as a democracy, in fact the "democracy" we are so anxious to force on the rest of the world is hanging by a very thin thread now.
If nothing else a recount gives a little of our power back to us, we can take pride in doing something, without expectations, for the republic we say we so value.
In looking at the US chart it is clear that it won't be a President, any President or the Tri-lateral Commission (who have been running the show for literally centuries) that will bring this country to dust, it will be "the people." The people who are hopeless, tired, apathetic, afraid, angry. There are antidotes for these conditions.
Find something to hope for in your own lives.
Get some rest and refresh yourselves by doing something new
Use your fear and anger in a focused way through meditation, getting involved, writing letters, sending small donations to the groups who so badly need it, support local politicians, you get the idea.
Do all the above and the apathy will disappear.
The economy is going to go south, it has before and we are set up for it to do so again, the weakening is taking place now as you see the dollar falling. Chiron is sitting on the US Pluto, Saturn has retrograded back away from it all, the late spring is another period of economic repression, the housing market maybe. I don't see the second half of 2005 into 2006 coming close to the prosperity of the 90's, America will not see that for a very long time. If we as a people think we are not as strong as the generation which saw WWI, a discimating plague (and that was before drugs or antibiotics) a Depression and WWII, you are wrong. We are as strong and finding our collective strength requires digging down really deep.
We have a New Moon in Scorpio and the Ascendant happens to be on John Kerry's Saturn. I don't know Kerry's birthtime anymore. There have been three given. One by his mother who said it was right before Sunrise. Sunrise in 1943 on the day he was born was at 8:15 am (NASA) while that may seem late it was War Time and I can guarantee you that the Military followed "War-Time. However some astrologers rushed to say it was at 7:10 and others said it was at 8:03 because that's the time Kerry told his sister-in-law, however a few weeks ago he gave his birthtime to a Vedic Astrologer (through Elizabeth Edwards) and said it was between 12 and 1 AM. So we don't have a birthtime for Kerry which would account for predictions of his pesidency to have been all over the board with some having a lucky guess but we did not arrive at our decisions through any accurate mathematical astrological computations.
An interesting sidebar, John Edwards gave his birthtime to the same astrologer, again through his wife as 7:23 am, not 7:02am. So you astrologers out there might want to change Edwards birthtime, giving him a 16 Cancer Asc. and 1 degree Aries Mid-heaven.
The fun show is not the New Moon, but Mars moving toward a square to Mr. Bush's Ascendent and Mercury, and in this corner it will square Mr. Kerry's North Node and Pluto. That all happens on the 22 of November, sit back, rest and watch to see if they hate each other, if Mr. Kerry's Pluto will trump GWB's Asc. or if they are really great buds and come out against any more recounts.
If the two of them seem to be buddy/buddy then we want to spend the next four years shoring up our own security, ignoring the little game they have going on, and look for a new party.
In the meantime, Google the Green Party website, they held their convention this year at 6/26/04, 3:30pm, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, if you can send them at least a dollar, for whatever reasons they are trying to hold on to democracy for us. Venus in their Convention Chart was still in her June transit precession and was stationary direct at 9 degrees Gemini, just two days before she turned direct.
Here is where we might catch the "Polar Express." 9 degrees Gemini is where the Venus transit turned direct to begin her 8 year transit, it's also where John Kerry's Mars and progressed Mars, it is also where the 2005 Inauguration Moon will be on January 20th at 12 Noon. Will there be a miracle? I am not predicting that, but I am suggesting whether we see it or not, the Green Party's action in Ohio has set up a miracle for democracy, win or lose the Green Party won and may have the President in 2008 or 2012. I encourage you to step up to them because they have stepped up for the United States of America.
It's 2 AM, if I have made mistakes please post them and I will correct tomorrow, if not I will edit this in the "later" morning. More later this evening or tomorrow on how we are going to avoid Civil War with each other.
By the way if there are any Catholics out there who are frustrated with their Church and the political stand they took this year, call your parish, I know several churches who have formed activist discussion groups on what "true Christian values" are, and they don't believe in theocracies. They are forming as a body to express their views on the Church's rush to politics and telling them how to vote.

I'm going to try to post . . .
Thank you Sally for this article. I am still so dismayed and depressed but the usual optimistic me will pop out eventually. I KNEW Kerry was the winner of this race and I still believe it. However, I don't think it is possible he would be handed the crown. Recounts and audits are a must in this election.

Very fancy Sally, 5 numbered codes.
Good to be back on. It was my second lock out so I was used to it. Laurie thanks for the fun gallery of people saying 'Sorry' and really meaning it.
Meditation and silence have helped me to cope, I always have my inner state to count on for solace.
I listen to a tape of the Tamboura an instrument with only 4 strings . The drone sets up a wall of sound of overtones. The highest pitch is the OM. Eventually you will hear it above Earth noise. The one pitch or 'Krishna's flute' is fascinating. I also see a pillar of light going through my body . It starts from the nowhere above and goes to the nowhere below. There is a tiny diamond of light called the Blue Pearl or the Nilabindu that I watch swirling around my inner space. That Nilabindu is the middle of the crown chakra and the doorway to the absolute. Do not discount thoughts. Watch them. Let meditation bring up everything from the subconcious mind and let it make you happy, sad, angry. Become aware of your feelings. FEEL.
Enjoyed your article Sally. My grandchildren enjoyed reading the 'Polar Express'... indeed, all is NOT what it seems. I'm thinking also that the movie just released is aptly named for the times we are in... polar... with the people split.
Another thought. If indeed this earth plane is a school, as some believe... it is perfect as is with all its flaws. How else can we learn to empower ourselves, to 'see' past the 'glamour'?
bhakti, your imagery is beautiful. Thanks for the reminder to seek quiet and solitude. The glitch with the site has forced some of us (especially this one!) to zip our lips for a while!
Vis, thank you for helping Cap'n Sally with the site problems. Thank you Cap'n Sally for coming back to us! And for the very fine article. Nov 20 thru 25 may be an interesting time indeed, as Nancy suggested some time back, and now your focus on the 22nd. That is also the anniversary of JFKennedy assassination.
For a look at how 'ithers' see us, you might read or reread M.Orr's comments on next two decades for USA, and in particular her comments on USA chart. Last night's reread revealed a POV I can't quite wrap my mind around, perhaps because I live here.
Namaste
Jo, Once we 'feel' and we trust our feelings we can see through the mists of glamour. In the Yin Yang symbol a dot of dark is within the white field and vice versa. The Universal energy is both dark and light. If we make peace with our shadow and love it we will no longer be at war with it.
Meditation is not about feeling good. Meditation 'churns the ocean of milk' or the unconcious mind to dredge it up to the concious mind to be expeled. That is the way. So meditation makes us feel agitated and miserable sometimes. It can't be ALL good. When we recognize our feelings as we go through the world that we feel and examine in meditation we will all learn ro react to our feelings more appropriately and trust them. I trust my inner state more than any other's words.
Yahoo, you're back! A+ article Sally! Re: Catholic Churches, how about those parishioners in Boston who are refusing to leave their churches even though the diocese has shut them down?
Vis, Sally....just testing to see if this is working yet...
Sally and Vis....the AW front page still says no one is posting....this is now like a secret society! Bhakti....I was taught to be in the middle of the light as you described, but I have never heard of the pearl....quite wonderful, very helpful. And I agree...meditation might be used to quite the mind and relieve stress, but that is only one level. Seeing into a new horizon does stir the waters....
Been reading all the pugnacious letters to the editor excoriating the scumsuckingdemocratliberals....very enlightening, actually. Wouldn't want to be in THEIR personal timespacecontinuum....
Forgot to mention that one of Alice Bailey's books on the seven deadly sins is on Glamour.....but I think that now we are into the book on the deadly use of Power. this is all about Power mascarading as Leadership. "Better Red than Dead" ....people misunderstanding what Leadership means....thinking that 'staying the course' means never changing direction...those are the people following this miscreant leadership. The Chronicle published Pat Oliphant's cartoon (BOSTON GLOBE?) this morning of the headless giant of the Bush electorate following the tiny bushster over a cliff....the monster chanting all the things that have happened that logically should have had him (them) voting for Kerry (drop in income, the draft, etc) and then he(they) are repeating "BUT HE'S MY LEADER'.
Thank you so much for this site Sally. I know it's a lot of work. Thank you also for such fine writing and astrology.
COME ON HOWARD DEAN. WE NEED A SERIOUS MAN WHO IS NOT TIED UP WITH THE POLITICAL GAMING!!!

Lynne Cheney's Attack on the History Standards, 10 Years Later
Ten years ago–October 20, 1994 to be exact–brought a screaming headline to the op-ed pages of the Wall Street Journal. Under the title “The End of History,” Lynne Cheney, former head of the National Endowment for the Humanities, maligned the National History Standards that she had funded (along with the Department of Education) as a “grim and gloomy” monument to political correctness. She pronounced the standards project a disaster for giving insufficient attention to Robert E. Lee and the Wright brothers and far too much to obscure figures (such as Harriet Tubman) or patriotically embarrassing episodes (such as the Ku Klux Klan and McCarthyism).
Ms. Cheney, it will be remembered, asked the National Center for History in the Schools at UCLA to coordinate the writing of the standards that Congress had mandated in 1992. The standards were developed over thirty-two months in Los Angeles and Washington with teacher task forces working with academic historians, school administrators, and other history educators. Though approved by a national council, half of whose members were her appointees and endorsed by thirty major professional and public interest organizations, the standards were dismissed by Ms. Cheney as having no redeeming value. Her attack sparked a fierce media debate as the nation prepared for the November 1994 election.
HNN readers may remember the furor over the history standards and how some elements of them were revised after a blue-ribbon commission formed by the Council for Basic Education made recommendations.
Sally, thanks for the recent astro-insight and update.
Early this year my husband scheduled an appointment with his priest and at that meeting my very opinated Sag rising husband told the priest that his political sermons were not appreciated. This priest countered by saying that during slavery priests in sermons spoke out against slavery. To which my husband responded, you're mixing apples with oranges. Priests spoke out then to free an oppressed group, while today, some priests are speaking out to have groups oppressed.
I, on the other hand have no pull with the church as I have long ago given up on catholicism. Having spend all of young and early adulthood in catholic schools, I have earned the right to hold them in contempt.

Thank you Sally.
That's wonderful.
Could we all send a postcard to the WH with this
quote written on it? Wouldn't that be grand? Can you see his face puffing red?
(use gloves to handle and write on the postcard and don't lick the stamp- dna traceable you know).
Dissenting is a seditious activity these days. Nevertheless, that's exactly what I'm going to do.
Quote Mencken on a postcard to der fuehrer.
Sally,
Would you happen to have the "birth" data for the Green Party?
Nexxus, the Green Party started in 1987 in Australia and I don't have the exact date I've been trying to track it down.
Thanks for that insightful comment! It makes interesting reading, especially when I need a payday loans.
I agree with you .
