The Bloody Moon
Full Moon Lunar Eclipse Partial Eclipse onset 11:04 PM The duration of an eclipses influence seems to correspond to the number of hours and minutes an eclipse lasts. A solar eclipse equates to years, and lunar eclipse equates to months. The eclipse path falls across Western North America slicing through Texas, and covering Eastern Europe, Africa and the Middle East. For a graphical view of the eclipse path and the eclipse progression check out Planetary Systems Branch - Code 693 at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt . The moons appearance may be dramatically colored blood red, orange, brown, and even very dark grey like the bones of a skeleton the dark specter in the night. Eclipse Chart
Another highly volatile aspect finds Mars in a tight square with Chiron, with Mars sextiling Pluto, a terrible trio. Mars square Chiron reveals suppressed rage and anger in the collective. This is often given manifestation as an act that incites anger in others thus claiming their hands are clean. There will also be an exerting of the collective will versus knuckling under to authority. Can we say bye bye Bush bye bye?

Great, outstanding, the best Morgana. "Dark" yes, but not too "dark." Hope you hear my tone of voice on this one Morgana. This eclipse also aspects Kerry and Edwards Venus (if I remember their charts which are now floating around in cyberspace) and it falls very close to GWB's progressed Saturn. Japan's earthquakes today. could tell us something about this eclipse. Through the years I've noticed a lot of earth movement on the energies of eclipses. Iraq veterans open up on mishandling of war Soldiers returning from Iraq offered firsthand accounts of the war's turmoil Thursday. Sponsored by the College Democrats, the panel met to discuss service obstacles as well as dangerous trends in military policy. "You know so much about supporting the troops, especially since the election's taking place," said David Boetcher, a Gulf War veteran headed for Iraq in January. "Our job is to get to the issues behind the rhetoric." Boetcher presented the audience with statistics showing how veterans are losing service benefits at a rapid rate. With lowered funding for support programs and the rising trend of soldiers being reactivated for a second tour of duty, there is little incentive to remain in the service. Rather than being reassured, however, soldiers have begun to receive rude awakenings through a "Fed Ex letter" strategy. "You get a package, and you have to show up [for service] two days later," Boetcher said. "The military has a plan for action and it's not getting told." Jennifer Giese of the 826th Ordinance experienced this firsthand; she came home and found orders to report to Ohio's Fort Campbell. After spending 68 days on base due to confusion over troop deployment, she was sent to Tikrit and stationed at an abandoned Iraqi airbase. More.... This one happens to conjunct my N.node in the 5th, so I'm waiting to see the results, but I'm more concerned about its impact on the world at large. Posted by: Crystal on October 25, 2004 03:52 PMLA Times: THE RACE FOR THE WHITE HOUSE Countries Turn to Bush's Top Fundraisers for Access [..] In June, for example, Iraq's Kurdish Democratic Party hired a Washington lobbying firm to help keep it in good standing with the administration. The company — Barbour, Griffith and Rogers — promotes its access to the White House in its written appeals for foreign business, saying it knows "decision-makers and the decision-making process." One of its partners, Larry Griffith, is a top fundraiser for President Bush, as had been the firm's founder, Haley Barbour, now the governor of Mississippi and no longer active with the company. The trend of foreign countries relying on lobbyists who also serve as political fundraisers troubles government watchdog groups. Issues such as trade and immigration drive U.S. foreign policy, they say, and should not be influenced by those with fundraising links to decision makers. "One of the things this shows is that foreign governments that used to work country to country now believe they have to function through the Washington influence money system in order to be heard in Washington," said Fred Wertheimer, president of Democracy 21, a nonpartisan campaign watchdog group. Consider Thomas G. Loeffler, a former congressman from Texas. He was the top moneyman for Bush's 1994 gubernatorial campaign in Texas, and aggressively collected money for Bush's 2000 presidential campaign. This year, he raised more than $200,000 for the reelection effort. When Saudi Arabia contacted his lobbying firm, seeking some face time with Bush officials about trade and the war on terrorism, Loeffler obliged. In July 2003, he introduced the Saudi minister of commerce and industry to U.S. Commerce Secretary Don Evans, a fellow Texan who led the Bush fundraising team in 2000. Later that month, Loeffler arranged a private meeting between Adel Jubeir, Saudi Arabia's foreign policy advisor in Washington, and Karl Rove, Bush's chief political advisor, "to discuss Saudi trade matters" and "the kingdom's reform efforts and war against terrorism," records state. Loeffler also set up a meeting for Saudi Arabia's minister of commerce with Robert Zoellick, the U.S. trade representative, and Linnet Deily, the U.S. ambassador to the World Trade Organization, which Saudi Arabia is trying to join. Loeffler did not return several phone messages seeking comment. In addition to Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong and Mexico have hired Loeffler's firm to push their interests in Washington. All three have paid the firm about $2.6 million a year. Each of them is concerned about trade. And the Saudis want to improve their image in the U.S. in the wake of Sept. 11. Fifteen of the 19 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia. ... Interesting how a few people have mentioned "landslide" in their posts. Last night I was also getting the sense of a landslide for Kerry. Also a sense that at a very deep, perhaps not even conscious level, people have a knowing that this is not just another election. It's like a below-the-surface wave, a movement of energy that is awakening, growing and taking on a momentum of its own. We are in a major planetary evolutionary cycle and our choice during this election will have consequences beyond what we may comprehend. Light to all. Light to our planet. Morgana, great article. I've been very apprehensive about the coming few days, but have been buoyed by the consistent stream of endorsements going Kerry's way. I noted that you prominently cite the Wayne Madsen article about Iran. I had an email from the website Tom Flocco this morning with that article and I pretty much pooh-poohed it until I saw that Madsen was the writer. Do you really think this cartel would do this? Do you think the eclipse points to something like this? I find it well within the bounds of this administration's standard MO though. The Pentagon drew up detailed plans in June 2002, giving the administration a series of options for a military strike on the camp Mr. Zarqawi was running then in remote northeastern Iraq, according to generals who were involved directly in planning the attack and several former White House staffers. They said the camp, near the town of Khurmal, was known to contain Mr. Zarqawi and his supporters as well as al Qaeda fighters, all of whom had fled from Afghanistan. Intelligence indicated the camp was training recruits and making poisons for attacks against the West. Senior Pentagon officials who were involved in planning the attack said that even by spring 2002 Mr. Zarqawi had been identified as a significant terrorist target, based in part on intelligence that the camp he earlier ran in Afghanistan had been attempting to make chemical weapons, and because he was known as the head of a group that was plotting, and training for, attacks against the West. He already was identified as the ringleader in several failed terrorist plots against Israeli and European targets. In addition, by late 2002, while the White House still was deliberating over attacking the camp, Mr. Zarqawi was known to have been behind the October 2002 assassination of a senior American diplomat in Amman, Jordan. We find much to admire in Mr. Kerry's life of service, knowledge of the world and positions on a range of issues -- but also some things that give us pause. On balance, though, we believe Mr. Kerry, with his promise of resoluteness tempered by wisdom and open-mindedness, has staked a stronger claim on the nation's trust to lead for the next four years. Opponents of the technology have resorted to a series of lawsuits in a last-ditch attempt to stop the use of the machines. The debate centres on the use of electronic voting equipment, ATM-like machines that register votes digitally after people make their selections on a touch-screen. Nearly 30% of voters will place their ballot using these 'e-voting' machines when choosing the next US president. Many watchdog groups are warning that tests conducted on e-voting hardware and software are insufficient, and that faulty machines could cause votes to be missed or registered incorrectly. It's not yet clear how serious these problems will be; early voting in a dozen or so states so far has thrown up only minor glitches. However, there is a more fundamental concern about the technology, which is that without a printed confirmation of each vote, it is impossible to hold an independent manual recount. Trust exercise "Voters using electronic machines without a paper trail will simply have to trust the good word of the vendors and local election officials that the electronic numbers recorded in the machine memories accurately reflect the intent of the electorate," says Matt Zimmerman, an attorney with the San Francisco-based Electronic Freedom Foundation, which studies civil liberties issues related to technology. Posted by: Pat C on October 26, 2004 09:04 PMMeanwhile: Josh Marshall links to a new MSNBC story on Al Qa Qaa. The short version of today's MSNBC story: -- The Drudge-touted April 10th visit was a "pit stop" and featured no searches for explosives, which the troops wouldn't have recognized anyway. -- The previous US troop visit, on April 4, featured spot checks that did manage to find thousands of boxes of white powder that turned out to be explosives. -- The roads at the time were too chewed up to allow truck convoys easy passage (and you can't quickly or easily haul out 380 tons of ANYTHING with just tanks and Jeeps and Hummers). Bottom line: There's no way that the explosives could have been taken out before the roads to Al Qa Qaa were cleared later in April. (And even if there was, the satellites Rummy had trained on Iraq would have seen the trucks. A convoy of the size needed to haul all that material would have shown up on the satellite photos like the freaking Great Wall of China.) The Daily Misleader has more: =============================== =============================== ADMINISTRATION MISLEADS ON MISSING EXPLOSIVES In Iraq, 380 tons of powerful explosives have been looted and may have fallen into the hands of insurgents. In an effort to deflect blame, administration officials are pushing the theory that when "U.S. forces...reached the Al Qaqaa military facility in early April 2003, the weapons cache was already gone."[1] This theory is not credible. According to an AP report, U.S. solders visited the Al Qaqaa in April 2003 and "found thousands of five-centimetre by 12-centimetre boxes, each containing three vials of white powder."[2] Officials who tested the powder said it was "believed to be explosives."[3] Yesterday, "an official who monitors developments in Iraq" confirmed that "US-led coalition troops had searched Al Qaqaa in the immediate aftermath of the March 2003 invasion and confirmed that the explosives, which had been under IAEA seal since 1991, were intact."[4] Thereafter, according to the official, "the site was not secured by U.S. forces."[5] It makes sense that the explosives were there when the U.S. solders arrived because, as the LA Times notes, "given the size of the missing cache, it would have been difficult to relocate undetected before the invasion, when U.S. spy satellites were monitoring activity."[6] Sources: 1. It lists 1,886 names and addresses of voters in predominantly black and traditionally Democrat areas of Jacksonville, Florida. An elections supervisor in Tallahassee, when shown the list, told Newsnight: "The only possible reason why they would keep such a thing is to challenge voters on election day." Ion Sancho, a Democrat, noted that Florida law allows political party operatives inside polling stations to stop voters from obtaining a ballot. Mass challenges They may then only vote "provisionally" after signing an affidavit attesting to their legal voting status. Mass challenges have never occurred in Florida. Indeed, says Mr Sancho, not one challenge has been made to a voter "in the 16 years I've been supervisor of elections." "Quite frankly, this process can be used to slow down the voting process and cause chaos on election day; and discourage voters from voting." Sancho calls it "intimidation." And it may be illegal. In Washington, well-known civil rights attorney, Ralph Neas, noted that US federal law prohibits targeting challenges to voters, even if there is a basis for the challenge, if race is a factor in targeting the voters. The list of Jacksonville voters covers an area with a majority of black residents. When asked by Newsnight for an explanation of the list, Republican spokespersons claim the list merely records returned mail from either fundraising solicitations or returned letters sent to newly registered voters to verify their addresses for purposes of mailing campaign literature. Republican state campaign spokeswoman Mindy Tucker Fletcher stated the list was not put together "in order to create" a challenge list, but refused to say it would not be used in that manner. Rather, she did acknowledge that the party's poll workers will be instructed to challenge voters, "Where it's stated in the law." There was no explanation as to why such clerical matters would be sent to top officials of the Bush campaign in Florida and Washington. Private detective In Jacksonville, to determine if Republicans were using the lists or other means of intimidating voters, we filmed a private detective filming every "early voter" - the majority of whom are black - from behind a vehicle with blacked-out windows. The private detective claimed not to know who was paying for his all-day services. On the scene, Democratic Congresswoman Corinne Brown said the surveillance operation was part of a campaign of intimidation tactics used by the Republican Party to intimate and scare off African American voters, almost all of whom are registered Democrats. Posted by: Pat C on October 26, 2004 09:25 PMMMFA asks NBC not to feature Limbaugh on election night Dear Mr. Shapiro: I am writing to you today to ask that NBC not feature conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh as a political commentator during election night coverage, as your network did in 2002. As you should know, Limbaugh has a track record of using extreme, hateful speech that has no place in civil discourse. To pick just a few examples from this year, as documented by Media Matters for America: Limbaugh compared the abuse of Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib to a fraternity prank, telling America and an international audience on the taxpayer-funded American Forces Radio and Television Service that the torture was a "brilliant maneuver" and that the photos were "good old American pornography." Limbaugh further claimed that "the reaction to the stupid torture is an example of the feminization of this country." He has also labeled Senator John Kerry a "stupid S.O.B." and a "gigolo." Limbaugh's racist commentary also makes him unsuitable for an appearance on your network. Just last month, Limbaugh, commenting on Reverend Jesse Jackson joining the Kerry campaign, stated: "The Kerry campaign has finally gotten a chocolate chip," sparking outrage in the African American community. On March 26, Limbaugh said: "Hugo, Cesar -- whatever. A Chavez is a Chavez. We've always had problems with them." The talk show host also claimed: "[T]ruce is an old Arabic word. Goes way, way back in Islamic-Arabic culture, and it means, 'We will get you later.'" Limbaugh's sexist commentary is beyond the pale as well. Last spring, Limbaugh said that women "actually wish" for sexual harassment. Limbaugh shared with listeners his "pet name" for the National Organization for Women (NOW): "National Association of Gals" (his acronym: "NAG"), claiming that the "militant feminists" who make up the "NAGs" "aren't determining who wins elections. White men are." Limbaugh also warned that with "new female police chiefs ... we can watch out for some naked pyramids," a crude reference to Abu Ghraib following the appointment of four women as chiefs of police in four major U.S. cities. Limbaugh has a reckless disregard for facts and the truth. For example, Limbaugh falsely stated that the 9-11 Commission report confirmed Vice President Dick Cheney's claim that September 11 hijacker Mohamed Atta may have met with an Iraqi intelligence officer in April 2001. As you know, the report said this meeting did not occur. Limbaugh was wrong about the minimum wage on his April 29 and August 12 shows, and he mischaracterized the U.S. fiscal shortfall on July 8. Limbaugh has also claimed that in reference to Iraq, "[President George W.] Bush never said the words 'imminent threat.' That's another myth that gets perpetuated by Kerry and picked up by the mainstream press. Bush never said there was an imminent threat. He wanted to go. It was a mounting threat. He wanted to get in there before it became an imminent threat. ... Now, Bush has never -- Bush hasn't used the word 'imminent' ever, and neither has Cheney." But Bush did call Iraq an "urgent threat"; Cheney called Iraq a "mortal threat"; and other senior White House officials assented (on October 16, 2002 and January 26, 2003) when reporters applied the "imminent threat" characterization. And Limbaugh's claim that AIDS "hasn't made that jump to the heterosexual community ... other than in Africa [where] ... it's promiscuity that ... spreads this," is clearly false -- and jaw-dropping. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, and the conservative point of view should be represented in the media. There are plenty of conservative pundits who make tempered, intellectually honest arguments. I take issue, however, with Limbaugh's dishonesty and vitriol. His lies and hate speech have no place on your network and our public airwaves. I look forward to hearing back from you on this matter before Election Day. This morning, prior to the Clinton speech, I was invited to a breakfast meeting with Henry Waxman, Alan Dershowitz, Congressman Wexler, a couple of other congresspeople and Senator Lautenberg - who is very amazing - doesn't look his age...saw me later at the Clinton speech and remembered my name. I can't remember anyone's name 5 minutes after being introduced and I'm not 79 years of age. I thanked him for coming out of retirement, and he said " It's the best thing I ever did". Many of you know and followed I was part of a research team that traced Cheney's illegal sales of dual use nuke components to countries on the forbidden list, as well as Sibel Edmonds' ( who was gagged by Ashcroft) "secrets" in " Sibel Speaks Farsi". I spoke with a few of the congress-people about the illegalities, and with the exception of one, they jumped at it. I suspect I am being placed where I need to be, even if it means I've worked my ass (and feet) off. Henry Waxman, surprisingly is very dimunitive - probably about 4"9 or 4"10" but what a giant work he has been doing. Bill Clinton. What can you say. Yesterday he was not only in Philadelphia but then flown to Miami for another speech. Today he was in Boca. When he came out a guttural roar came out of the crowd of only 1500. I've never heard anything like it. It started low and grew to a roar. Not shouting - yet - not clapping - a roar. (This was ticket/invitation only.) Bill came out to that roar...then standing applause and applause. For those of you who don't know Boca is a wealthy area - soon there were whistles and yells. Today he looked tired and his voice started out not full bodied, and then as he warmed up to his subject, his voice gained strength. Let me tell you. It's obvious that man could be elected a third time. Everyone left the auditorium on a high - there was such good energy. He has an amazing delivery...and a way of slipping in a sarcastic quip that makes everyone laugh. He's not supposed to be shaking hands and so on - germs- but he stays and does. The Secret Service wouldn't let us out until Elvis had left the building. 1500 rich people patiently waited some 45 minutes while Bill yada yada yada'd. They had their noses pressed to the doors waiting for them to open, but no one carried on or grumbled. I wasn't that close to the front -- and I really couldn't see him well at all, just a blur of white hair and navy suit.....but hours later, my energy is still high. The man's a magician, may God Bless him. Posted by: Pallas18 on October 27, 2004 12:26 AM

The election is an expression of as well as revealing something deeper about the psyche and the nature of our perceptions. The election is showing how any of us, at any moment, can become unconscious, as if we have fallen asleep or under a spell. Seen as an expression of a deeper process unfolding inside the psyche that has both literally, as well as symbolically, externalized itself (gotten 'dreamed up'), the election is revealing how those who are interested in power can actually manipulate others through their weak points and blind spots so as to control them. This darker, shadowy energy that is playing out in the election is a reflection of certain tendencies deep inside the soul of humanity- abusing power over others is a process that exists deep inside the unconscious of all of us. This inner process is Wonderful articles and comments everyone - have missed regular contact. But, of course, it did happen there on that very September 11th. The head of the Chilean military Gen. Augusto Pinochet, with U.S. encouragement and support, took over the country, crushed the opposition, destroyed Salvador Allende's socialist government, and created a military/police state. Yes, it happened there. It could even happen here. In fact, it's an irony that, while the issue of "the fall of the Republic" continues to be of great concern to anti-imperial conservatives, it's proved less so for the anti-imperial left, many of whom perhaps believe that the American Republic has long since been ground into the dust, if it ever existed. Well, as the saying goes, you don't know what you've lost until you actually lose it. Ariel Dorfman, who once lost everything, knows. (In this light, I recommend the Nation magazine's endorsement of John Kerry for president. Its second half offers a chilling account of the factor's that might indeed lead to the final shredding of the American Republic in a Bush second term.) Dorfman's essay below approaches this subject from a more optimistic perspective. In fact, it seems to me to strike just the right note, acknowledging not only the losses and disasters of the last three years, but the recent upsurge of creative opposition in this country and, looking beyond the elections, what it may mean for our future. After all, whether John Kerry or George Bush wins, we'll need a growing antiwar movement led, at least in part, by the military families of our soldiers in Iraq, by returned vets, and perhaps even by soldiers in Iraq. Here, for instance, is a letter that appeared this week in the New York Times by the mother of a soldier who die! d in Iraq. It catches the spirit of the moment: "To the Editor: "'Scary Ads Take Campaign to a Grim New Level' (front page, Oct. 17) cites my Real Voices ad about the death in Iraq of my son Casey as one of many 'scary' campaign ads this year. Trust me, the families of soldiers who serve under President Bush's reckless leadership experience things far scarier than seeing a crying mother on television. "Scary is the sound of an unexpected knock on the door in the middle of the day. "Scary is hearing that yet another young soldier - or several - died today, and not knowing whether that's your child they're talking about. More... Full Moon Lunar Eclipse at 6 Taurus occurs at 11:07 p.m. EDT. This eclipse is visible over much of the world, including North America. It is a total eclipse, lasting about 6 hours, and we in the U.S. get to see it in its entirety. We had a solar eclipse in Libra, which is realigning relationships. Now we have a lunar eclipse in Taurus, which is realigning our use of energy. This eclipse includes both north and south polar regions, and (among other things) it may well be connected with global warming, which is picking up speed at a rapid rate. Glaciers in Antarctica are melting ten times as fast as they were in 1990, and Russia, who has been a holdout, is getting ready to sign the Kyoto Treaty on climate control. Both of these autumn eclipses are matched by their opposite signs, Aries and Scorpio, in spring eclipses, very close to the same degrees as are these autumn eclipses. This gives a double whammy to the Aries-Libra and to the Taurus-Scorpio polarities—relationships, and energy use and transformation. Both the October and April eclipses are heavily involved with Saturn and with Chiron. The Saturn-Chiron opposition has been with us since August 2003, when security became acknowledged as a huge problem in Iraq. It has been involved in many of the critical dates since, including the coming election on November 2. This Saturn-Chiron opposition is primarily about the realignment of governmental security structures. "Terrorism" (Chiron and Juno) and "security" (Saturn in Cancer) have been the watchwords of the Administration over many months. Chiron’s job is to realign, and in Capricorn, it is disrupting and shifting government, business, and other established institutions. The matching of degrees in the eclipse oppositions indicates that we are now commencing a process of change which will not be completed until next May, when Saturn returns to its degree of the First Quarter Moon of a week ago. There are two big obvious differences between this pair of autumn eclipses, and the pair of spring eclipses: (1) Aries and Scorpio, the signs of the spring eclipses, are more volatile than the autumn eclipse pair of Libra and Taurus. They are both Mars-ruled, and (2) The Moon’s Nodes will have changed signs by then. They are now in Taurus and Scorpio, and by next April, they will be in Aries and Libra. The Nodal polarity represents an axis of destiny for the entire world. That axis is in the same polarity for about 18 months. Our major concern for the last year and half has been resources and energy. Beginning in December, we shift to concerns about partnership and connections. Aries-Libra is a competitive polarity, and is often connected with conflict. These pairs of eclipses fall this month in October, and in the spring in April. In such a situation, major manifestations of the eclipse changes often occur during the midpoint month, in this case January 2005. We might look at it this way: Changes which are set in motion now reach a kind of culmination in January, and are set into place by May. As I write, I see that these times include the presidential election, and the presidential inauguration. Looks like change, folks. Further confirmation of the election of Kerry is that he wants to be involved in partnerships and alliances, whereas Bush is the big money guy. cont...... And it is the place the Powers That Be will toss any sinister and dark questions about their behavior, safe in the knowledge that anyone who goes to look for the answer will have to dive into that gnarled world and will look foolish and silly and will be probably be laughed off the stage. Sometimes it's all you -- or I -- can do to hint at the existence of these radical notions and illuminate the frightening possibilities and scream into the Void, hoping to agitate and inform and inspire while still covering your professional butt. A copout? Maybe. But then again, if there's an alternative, I have yet to find it. And the truth is, we don't really want such unstable questions answered. We simply cannot tolerate to have our world, our leaders, our foundations so questioned. We prefer stasis to growth, security to true knowledge, blind faith to chaotic sticky self-defined wonder. After all, once you allow the real possibility of UFOs or psychic healing or crop-circle phenomena or the notion that we could very well have a hugely malicious, criminal U.S. government capable of pulling a 9/11 on its own citizens, well, the happy capitalistic all-American Christian world begins to implode. Foundations crumble. Trust in our institutions vanishes. Gods fall and doctrines crumble and televangelists spontaneously combust and everyone starts reimagining the social order in ways that absolutely terrify those who now hold the reins. ABCNEWS HOLDS TERROR WARNING TAPE **Exclusive** In the last week before the election, ABCNEWS is holding a videotaped message from a purported al Qaeda terrorist warning of a new attack on America, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned. The terrorist claims on tape the next attack will dwarf 9/11. "The streets will run with blood," and "America will mourn in silence" because they will be unable to count the number of the dead. Further claims: America has brought this on itself for electing George Bush who has made war on Islam by destroying the Taliban and making war on Al Qaeda. ABCNEWS strongly denies holding the tape back from broadcast over political concerns during the last days of the election. The CIA is analyzing the tape, a top federal source tells the DRUDGE REPORT. ABCNEWS obtained the tape from a source in Waziristan, Pakistan over the weekend, sources tells DRUDGE. "We have been working 24 hours a day trying to authenticate [the tape]," a senior ABCNEWS source said Wednesday morning, dismissing a claim that ABC was planning to air portions of the video during Monday's WORLD NEWS TONIGHT. The terrorist's face is concealed by a headdress, and he speaks in an American accent, making it difficult to identify the individual. US intelligence officials believe the man on tape may be Adam Gadhan - aka Adam Pearlman, a California native who was highlighted by the FBI in May as an individual most likely to be involved in or have knowledge of the next al Qaeda attacks. According to the FBI, Gadahn, 25, attended al-Qaida training camps and served as an al-Qaida translator. The disturbing tape runs an hour -- the man simply identifies himself as 'Assam the American.' MORE ----------------------------------------------------------- wv, I was just going to post that. Luckily Josh Marshall is on it. Josh says he's full of crap. There really are truth heros out there. Morgana, thanks. You have caught the current atmosphere and currents perfectly. Also thanks to all for the wonderful posts. I always want to converse with everybody, which wouldn't be practical. Now shameless self-indulgence, here is a dream I had last night. I was on the front porch of the house where I'm visiting and saw a kitten that someone--in my dream I was sure it was a child--had attached playing cards to with twine. There were face cards and high cards--mostly hearts but at least one spade. While I was thinking I would cut the twine so the kitten wouldn't be hurt, I heard many planes. Looked up and saw clearly US planes in close formation heading west. They were large, like troop carriers or bombers. Usually I can figure out my dreams, but this one is a puzzler. Free association says--cat, 9 lives, kitten--something young & fragile, "it's in the cards". Have no idea about the planes--but just today learned that there was a bad earthquake in Japan recently (US news is so insular). Since the whole Pacific rim is affected by any part I wondered if a US west coast earthquake is ahead and help would be headed that way. Well, this sounds like so much blather, but if anyone wants to comments I would be very interested and appreciative. Occasionally I have precognitive dreams, but have never been able to figure them out until after the event. Posted by: Barbara on October 27, 2004 07:57 PMWriting something out is really helpful. After posting above I had an "aha" experience: Something new (though fragile) is in the cards. Bombing and troop invasions are "heading west"--an old expression for death, i.e., the end of something. No more bombing and invasion. I think that is it. Posted by: Barbara on October 27, 2004 08:13 PMBarbara, how interesting! He was a Republican, defying George W, John Ashcroft, and his own party's top leadership in congress – all of whom lobbied furiously (and unethically) to defeat this act, which sought to to ensure one of our most basic American liberties: The right to keep government snoops and bullies from secretly spying on the reading habits of perfectly innocent citizens. What could be more Mom and Apple Pie than that? Bush, Ashcroft, & Gang, however, had undermined this fundamental freedom with a nasty provision they tucked into their infamous, liberty-busting USA Patriot Act in 2001. It allows federal agents to get a secret order from a secret court to walk into any public library or bookstore and demand the records of any and all patrons, without showing anyone – even the court – any evidence that the people being investigated are involved in any criminal activity whatsoever. It's jackbooted autocratic power like this that led to the American revolution. And just as in 1776, today's librarians, bookstore owners, writers, and freedom-loving people of all political stripes have risen up against the Bushites' authoritarian, un-American intrusion into our privacy. This grassroots uprising led to the Freedom to Read Act, which would have halted the intrusion. The good news is that the act passed 219 to 201. The sad news is that the GOP hierarchy then cheated. They held the vote open beyond the 15 minutes allowed by the rules, taking an extra 23 minutes while the leaders broke the arms of nine Republicans, forcing them to switch votes. This finally produced a 210-210 tie, defeating the act. In other words, the Bushites stole it...and they also stole an important piece of our liberties. But we've only begun to fight this insult to democracy. To join the uprising, call The American Library Association: 800-545-2433. Secondly, my husband, Myron, rec'd a very powerful letter from an American/Israeli of dual citizenship who strongly supports John Kerry and details why he thinks Kerry cares about Israel's welfare and right to defend itself against terrorism (which does not mean, in my opinion, Israel should be able to get away with just anything). You may want to share this letter with those you know who feel Bush is better for Israel. I already have and only wish the letter had been written and distributed earlier. Now that Arafat is so ill, I wonder how the situation will manifest. Maybe Kerry will have a new Palestinian partner to negotiate peace with (along with Clinton)? Here is the letter: Myron, I thought you might be interested in the letter below. This reflects my personal opinions and not my role at COEJL. Please feel free to share it broadly, but please do not post it to the Kol-Chai list. Thanks, Hadar Susskind My name is Hadar Susskind and I am an Israeli/America, a former Israeli infantry soldier, and an advocate for Israel. I don’t work for a campaign, a political party, or any political group. I’m speaking only in my own voice, and only because of my love for both of my countries, America and Israel. This is the first time I’ve ever sat down to write to people about an election or a candidate and I’m only doing it now because I truly believe that the decision we are faced with on November 2nd is one that will shape our future for generations to come. Those of you who know me know that I am a person who is deeply committed to Israel, to the welfare of the Jewish people, and to upholding the Jewish ethic of striving for justice and righteousness in our lives and in the world around us. I am also supporting John Kerry for President. John Kerry has a twenty-year history of working to support Israel. In fact, AIPAC has given him a perfect 100% score on Israel related votes. Even more important than his voting record is his personal commitment to Israel. He has traveled to Israel nearly a dozen times (throughout his long career of public service) and he made the most of those trips. He flew in an F-16 with Israeli pilots in order to see the Middle East from the air and get a better understanding of the security challenges that Israelis live with every day. He visited army bases and went to hospitals to speak directly with victims of terror. John Kerry understands the real effects of conflict and war in a way that comes only from experiencing them firsthand. Over the years John Kerry has also worked closely with the Jewish community on legislation concerning Israel’s security (and an array of other community concerns) and he has built real personal relationships with Jewish leaders here in the U.S. and in Israel. There is no question in my mind that an America led by John Kerry will always be there for Israel. There are two equally important things that I believe the President of the Unites States must do in order to truly be considered a friend of Israel. The first is supporting Israel in their efforts to defend themselves. John Kerry has always stood firmly with Israel and defended the necessary actions that they taken to ensure the safety and security of their citizens. He has always supported American military and financial aid to Israel, even in the face of Republican efforts to reduce both. The second one, and this is where the Bush Administration has completely and totally failed, is that they must be committed to trying to move toward peace in the region. It is an incredibly difficult task with no easy answers. I don’t believe that you can have peace right now. I don’t think that the current leadership in the region is ready. I do think that it is essential to keep making every possible effort to move in that direction. President Bush claims that he supports Israel, yet he has withdrawn the U.S. from involvement is the one issue on which Israel’s future rests, an eventual peace with the Palestinians and peace in the Middle East. I spent nearly three years of my life wearing the uniform of an Israeli soldier, and many years since then working for Israel and for the Jewish community. I believe that the single most important thing that we can do for America and for Israel is to cast a vote for John Kerry. Please share this email with anyone and everyone you know who cares about Israel and cares about America. Sincerely, Hadar Susskind Morgana, http://www.fibiger.org/misc/bushuncensored.mov I just couldn't get that to fit into their poll answer options. Our main street is only five blocks long, lined with restored storefronts. The sidewalks are narrow. We are a peaceful community. The prospect of an overnight presidential visit was exciting, even to me, a lifelong Democrat. My excitement turned to horror as I watched events unfold during President Bush's visit. In the mid 1800s, when Indians invaded Jacksonville, citizens clambered upon the roof of the old library. It was the one building that would not catch fire when flaming arrows were shot. This week it was a different scene. Police armed with high powered rifles perched upon our rooftops as the presidential motorcade approached. Helicopters flew low, overhead. A cadre of motorcycle police zoomed into town. Black SUVs followed, sandwiching several black limousines carrying the president, his wife and their entourage as they sped to the local inn where they would eat and sleep. The main street was lined with people gathered to witness the event. Many supported the pres ident. Many did not. Some came because they were simply curious. There were men, women, young and old. The mood was somewhat festive. Supporters of John Kerry sported signs, as did supporters of George Bush. Individuals, exercising their rights of free speech began chanting. On one side of the street, shouts of "four more years" echoed in the night air. On the other side of the street, chants of "three more weeks" responded. The chants were loud and apparently could be heard by President Bush. An order was issued that the anti-Bush rhetoric be quieted. The local SWAT team leapt to action. It happened fast. Clad in full riot gear, at least 50 officers moved in. There the "Protesters" were held at bay. Anyone vocalizing anti-Bush or Police officers circulated filming the crowd of "Protesters." Some were In small town America I witnessed true repression and intimidation by law enforcement. I saw small children suffering from the effects of being fired upon by pepper bullets. I felt legitimate fear of expressing my political opinions: a brand new feeling. Newspaper accounts state the chaos started when a violent "Protester" shoved a police officer. No one I talked to witnessed this account. It is reputed that President Bush and his staff will not allow any opposition activity to occur within his ear or eye sight. I can confirm, that in tiny Jacksonville, Oregon, this was true. Physically violent means were taken to protect the president from verbal insults. Freedom of speech was stolen. My father was not paranoid as he lay dying. He was expressing great insight into the dangers of our current presidential administration and its willingness to repress personal freedoms. If I could talk to my father today, I would say, "I am sorry Daddy for doubting you." And, no matter what, I will continue to exercise my individual right to freely express my opinions. Americans cannot take four more years.

[a cautionary tale] DEATH OF A SENATOR: A powerful senator dies after a prolonged illness. His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance. "Welcome to Heaven," says St. Peter. "Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you." "No problem, just let me in," says the guy. "Well, I'd like to but I have orders from higher up. What we'll do is have you spend one day in Hell and one in Heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity." "Really, I've made up my mind. I want to be in Heaven," says the senator. "I'm sorry but we have our rules." And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to Hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a club and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him, everyone is very happy and in evening attire. They run to greet him, hug him, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people. They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster and caviar. Also present is the Devil, who really is a very friendly guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a good time that, before he realizes it, it is time to go. Everyone gives him a big hug and waves while the elevator rises. The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on Heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him. "Now it's time to visit Heaven." So 24 hours pass with the head of state joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns. "Well then, you've spent a day in Hell and another in Heaven. Now choose your eternity." He reflects for a minute, then the senator answers, "Well, I would never have said it, I mean Heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in Hell." So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to Hell. Now the doors of the elevator open and he is in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags. The Devil comes over to him and lays his arm on his neck. "I don't understand," stammers the senator. "Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and club and we ate lobster and caviar and danced and had a great time. Now all there is, is a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable.

Posted by: Pat C on October 28, 2004 02:45 AMA Culture of Cover-Ups ?ides to John Kerry say that if he wins, he'll replace Porter Goss as head of the C.I.A. Let's hope so: Mr. Goss has already confirmed the fears of those who worried about his appointment by placing Republican staff members from Capitol Hill in key positions and raising fears about a partisan purge. But the flap over Mr. Goss is only a symptom of a much broader issue: whether the Bush administration will be able to maintain its culture of cover-ups. That culture affects every branch of policy, but it's strongest when it comes to the "war on terror." Although President Bush's campaign is based almost entirely on his self-proclaimed leadership in that war, his officials have thrown a shroud of secrecy over any information that might let voters assess his performance. Yesterday we got two peeks under that shroud. One was The Times's report about what the International Atomic Energy Agency calls "the greatest explosives bonanza in history." Ignoring the agency's warnings, administration officials failed to secure the weapons site, Al Qaqaa, in Iraq, allowing 377 tons of deadly high explosives to be looted, presumably by insurgents. The administration is trying to play down the importance of this loss, arguing that because Iraq was awash in munitions, a few hundred more tons don't make much difference. But aside from their potential use in nuclear weapons - the reason they were under seal before the war - these particular explosives, unlike standard munitions, are exactly what a terrorist needs. Informed sources quoted by the influential Nelson Report say explosives from Al Qaqaa are the "primary source" of the roadside and car bombs that have killed and wounded so many U.S. soldiers. And thanks to the huge amount looted - "in a highly organized operation using heavy equipment" - the insurgents and whoever else have access to the Qaqaa material have enough explosives for tens of thousands of future bombs. If the administration had had its way, the public would never have heard anything about this. Administration officials have known about the looting of Al Qaqaa for at least six months, and probably much longer. But they didn't let the I.A.E.A. inspect the site after the war, and pressured the Iraqis not to inform the agency about the loss. They now say that they didn't want our enemies - that is, the people who stole the stuff - to know it was missing. The real reason, obviously, was that they wanted the news kept under wraps until after Nov. 2. The story of the looted explosives has overshadowed another report that Bush officials tried to suppress - this one about how the Bush administration let Abu Musab al-Zarqawi get away. An article in yesterday's Wall Street Journal confirmed and expanded on an "NBC Nightly News" report from March that asserted that before the Iraq war, administration officials called off a planned attack that might have killed Mr. Zarqawi, the terrorist now blamed for much of the mayhem in that country, in his camp. Citing "military officials," the original NBC report explained that the failure to go after Mr. Zarqawi was based on domestic politics: "the administration feared destroying the terrorist camp in Iraq" - a part of Iraq not controlled by Saddam Hussein - "could undermine its case for war against Saddam." The Journal doesn't comment on this explanation, but it does say that when NBC reported, correctly, that Mr. Zarqawi had been targeted before the war, administration officials denied it. What other mistakes did the administration make? If partisan appointees like Mr. Goss continue to control the intelligence agencies, we may never know. This isn't speculation: Mr. Goss is already involved in a new cover-up. Last week Robert Scheer of The Los Angeles Times revealed the existence of a devastating but suppressed report by the C.I.A.'s inspector general on 9/11 intelligence failures. Newsweek has now confirmed the gist of Mr. Scheer's column. The report, the magazine says, "identifies a host of current and former officials who could be candidates for possible disciplinary procedures." But although the report was completed in June, Mr. Goss has refused to release it to Congress. "Everyone feels it will be better if this hits the fan after the election," an official told the magazine. Better for whom? What really happened on 9/11, or in Iraq? Next week's election may determine whether we ever find out. Pagan Nov 2 Voting Spell

Don't know if anybody has posted this, and I am on my way to bed, so hope this is not redundant. If Electoral College Fails, House Decides WASHINGTON - One near-certainty in this election of many uncertainties is that if the Electoral College can't pick a winner, George W. Bush will stay in the White House. That's because the House of Representatives is and will probably remain in Republican hands. The 12th Amendment, adopted in 1804 after the House took seven days in 1801 to break a tie and make Thomas Jefferson president, states that when there's no electoral vote majority, the House elects the president and the Senate the vice president. In the 200 years since, what are called contingent elections have happened only twice: in 1825, when the House chose John Quincy Adams over Andrew Jackson after an election fragmented by third-party candidates, and in 1837, when the Senate settled a disputed vice-presidential race. The odds are still good that Bush or John Kerry will secure 270 electoral votes, out of 538 cast, when the House and Senate meet in joint session on Jan. 6, 2005, to officially tally the results. But in the muddled 2000 election Bush edged Al Gore by 271-266, and there are several scenarios that could keep either candidate from reaching 270 this time. If that happens, there's little question that the House would choose Bush. The newly elected House would do the voting, and the makeup of that body is not expected to change much from now. Republicans hold 227 of the 435 seats and, more importantly, have a majority in 30 state delegations. The 12th Amendment specifies that each state gets one vote in a contingent election. Most assume that lawmakers will vote with their party, meaning that Florida, with Republicans currently holding 17 of 24 seats, and Ohio, with 12 of 18 seats held by Republicans, would probably go to Bush regardless of the popular vote. "The pressures would simply be enormous to vote your party allegiance," said Rep. David Price, D-N.C., who has pushed for changes in the election system. The prospects would be no brighter for Kerry if lawmakers were to vote in line with their states. In 2000, even though Gore captured more popular votes, Bush carried 30 states. With Ralph Nader's support hovering around 1 percent, there's no chance this time of a third-party candidate preventing anyone from getting a majority. But it is possible that the electors will split 269-269 when they meet in their states on Dec. 13 to register their votes. Also possible is a "faithless" elector confounding the process by either withholding a vote or voting for someone else. Electoral College electors are loyalists chosen by their party and rarely — only eight times since 1948 — stray from the chosen candidate. But this time every vote counts, and already one West Virginia Republican elector has suggested he might not vote for Bush. The biggest concern is a repeat of 2000 when the outcome hinged on the protracted legal battle over the winner in Florida. This time, both parties have thousands of lawyers watching for voter irregularities and ready to file legal challenges in states where the outcome may be in doubt. The Congressional Research Service issued reports in January 2001 and again last September educating members on the intricacies of the electoral college system. The latest analysis pointed out the importance of a Colorado referendum that would divide the state's electors proportionally, depending on the vote count, rather than the winner-take-all system used by almost every state. Lawsuits would be likely if proportional allocation appeared to reverse the nationwide results, the CRS said, "and might lead to a prolonged and bitter dispute, such as occurred following the 2000 election." Price, hoping to avoid what could be multiple Florida-like situations, last month introduced legislation that would give states with contested elections an extra three weeks, until Jan. 3, to conduct recounts before state electors have to meet to certify results. But the bill isn't going anywhere this year even though disputes over such issues as new registrants and provisional ballots are waiting to happen. "There's a higher level of suspicion and vigilance this time," Price said. There's still one more scenario that can't be totally discounted. If Democrats pick up two Senate seats next Tuesday, they will regain control of the Senate when lawmakers convene on Jan. 6. Without a clear Electoral College winner on that day, the country could end up with President Bush, re-elected by the House, being joined by a new Senate-picked vice president, John Edwards. Semi-overcast here tonight. Did get to see the major part of the eclipse, although color was very dull. I grew up eating, breating, living baseball, it was woven into the entire fabric of my family. I've been a Cardinal fan for as long as I can remember. I loved the Cardinals and my brother loved the Dodgers and we fought forever over who had the best team. In spite of that, I rooted for the Boston Red Sox tonight and was thrilled to see them win on this eclipse. I think it's a good omen for Boston and for a Boston Senator from MA running for President. Venus rules Mr. Kerry's Mid-heaven and this eclipse fell very close to his Natal Scorpio Venus and to John Edwards Natal Taurus Venus which rules his progressed Mid-heaven. It's almost as if the gods kissed the Red Sox and Kerry/Edwards tonight. I am holding that vision with the belief that Kerry/Edwards will sweep this election just as the Red Sox swept the World Series. Last night had a fleeting dream I can't recall about John F. Kennedy. Then, (this has happened twice now), before I awoke I dreamed I was in a shopping mall and some campaign workers were standing in front of a table looking at papers that held election results. John Kerry was standing behind the table, all I could see was his back. I realized that the election was being contested by him. The number 215 came up?? Then a sick feeling in my solar plexis when I realized that Bush was trying to steal the election. Every time I tried to call my sister and ask what was happening, I couldn't get through. This is 2nd of a very similar dream scenario. I believe the Shrub is going to try to steal it again. I really do. That's why the bought and paid for media polls are showing such a close race - to set us up for the steal. "See, we told you the candidates were only a few points apart." From what I've seen here in Conservative Dreamland (Virginia), there are a lot more people pushing for Kerry this election. And, I don't believe Kerry will do a Gore and roll over. There's gonna be a fiiiiight! Bring it on. Patricia Posted by: Patricia on October 28, 2004 01:38 PMhttp://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2004_10/004995.php RECESS APPOINTMENT?....Just when you thought the various post-election legal nightmare scenarios couldn't get worse. U.S. News & World Report is emailing around some reporting that indicates the Bush White House may be considering a recess appointment (requiring no Senate approval, remember) to replace Chief Justice Rehnquist if he steps down for health reasons: "Even though the U.S. Supreme Court has said Chief Justice William Rehnquist will return to the bench following cancer surgery, administration officials are quietly considering candidates to replace him and even the possibility of making a recess appointment. The officials said that they do not want to talk about the process publicly in the last week of the presidential campaign. However, one insider said that the West Wing is considering what would happen if the judge left the bench soon and if a close election next Tuesday meant an evenly split 4-4 court was to decide the winner. Such a situation would likely mean that a lower court's ruling on an outcome would be final and officials are worried that it would go against the President." Who says we're a banana republic? "Recess appointments" do not a "banana republic" make (see United States Constitution). The Iraqis described an orgy of theft so extensive that enterprising residents rented their trucks to looters. But some looting was clearly indiscriminate, with people grabbing anything they could find and later heaving unwanted items off the trucks. Two witnesses were employees of Al Qaqaa - one a chemical engineer and the other a mechanic - and the third was a former employee, a chemist, who had come back to retrieve his records, determined to keep them out of American hands. The mechanic, Ahmed Saleh Mezher, said employees asked the Americans to protect the site but were told this was not the soldiers' responsibility. The accounts do not directly address the question of when 380 tons of powerful conventional explosives vanished from the site sometime after early March, the last time international inspectors checked the seals on the bunkers where the material was stored. It is possible that Iraqi forces removed some explosives before the invasion. But the accounts make clear that what set off much if not all of the looting was the arrival and swift departure of American troops, who did not secure the site after inducing the Iraqi forces to abandon it. "The looting started after the collapse of the regime," said Wathiq al-Dulaimi, a regional security chief, who was based nearby in Latifiya. But once it had begun, he said, the booty streamed toward Baghdad. [...] You all know what to do. Spam this far and wide! However, placed over Washington DC, it’s a very different story. At the moment of eclipse, Saturn is rising, less than a degree away from GW’s Saturn. The eclipsed full Moon is in the tenth house of leaders, the state and the nation. The “king” is going to “die”. Kerry will “win” the election, but whether he takes office is another matter (see earlier this week). Today also sees the second of the grand quintiles. Placed over the UK, it doesn’t look great. Placed over New York/Washington, it looks well dodgy, especially around 17.30 local time. It's a celestial event befitting the days leading up to this year's presidential election on Tuesday, when Americans will gather their collective power, cast their vision upon the screen of world destiny, and alter the tilt of Earth's axis. Our ancestors believed eclipses were interruptions in the normal rhythms of life, aberrations that portended extraordinary events, especially for kings who held the power of life and death. We know better now, (or at least we think we do) because our scientists can explain the physical reason for an eclipse. But for those of us interested in metaphysical meaning an eclipse event still packs a lot of power. During a Lunar Eclipse conscious concerns overcome unconscious drives and the 3-D overrides the Dream Time. Of course, it's not really possible to stifle, squelch, hold back, deny, or suppress the unconscious for very long without experiencing a psychosis of some kind. And I'm sure you've noticed these last several weeks that you or someone you love is either breaking through or breaking down. The veils separating conscious and unconscious reality have grown increasingly transparent. This happens when the collective stands on a significant threshold and has to make important decisions. Not that Americans are the only contributors—let's be quite clear that we aren't. But we do carry a lot of weight and when we lean, there are consequences. More... The Red Sox have made it to the World Series four times since 1918, and each time they lost in the seventh game. This year, the seventh game will be on October 31, but transiting Jupiter will be out of range. The Curse chart features a Jupiter-Neptune conjunction that fosters a belief in superstition. By secondary progression, this Jupiter-Neptune is now exactly squared by progressed Mars (and activated by the transiting Sun on Halloween). Progressed Mars is further weakened by being retrograde. This combination suggests that in all likelihood Boston will once again find a dramatic way to lose." Well, Michael, THEY DIDN'T!!! Michael Wolf-Star was WRONG about the Red Sox, and chances are, Mr. New Age Bushie will be wrong about the election, too. Keep sending light to our country and to Kerry and Edwards and Mr. Clinton. For one thing, in 2000 you did not have the law-enforcement apparatus of the government engaged on one side of the contest, as you do now. Attorney General [John] Ashcroft has instituted this so-called ballot integrity program. Yes, despite appeals to him to issue statements saying we're interested in protecting the voters' right to cast their votes, he's focused entirely on suspicions and allegations of fraud. I don't think anyone thinks that fraud is a widespread problem in the American electoral system. Instead, he's instructed his attorneys general across the United States to be on the alert for fraud, rather than be on the alert for people who are likely to stymie voters and keep them from casting their votes. The two parties are much more aware, taking a lesson from 2000, that every vote counts, and the Democrats take the lesson to mean we need to get all our people to the polls, while the Republicans take the lesson to mean we have to keep as many people as we can away." Posted by: judi gemini on October 28, 2004 11:45 PMYeah, Judi, I agree about repeating the canard... and yes, one wonders if Rove might be Goebbles reincarnated... Rove's mentor was Lee Atwater, a Goebbels clone... from South Carolina, btw... Here's an article from Salon describing the rally today... good read: "I believe in the promised land" - - - - - - - - - - - - The presidential campaign comes rushing toward you in a million shrill words, a noisy, cross-country game of tit-for-tat played through TV feeds and the sharp remarks of a hundred sniping surrogates. It's loud and it's relentless, or at least it was until Bruce Springsteen stepped onto a small stage here Thursday afternoon. With 80,000 people and the future of the nation in front of him, Springsteen played a wistful, acoustic version of "The Promised Land" then quietly offered the most eloquent stump speech of this long presidential race. "I've been writing about America for 30 years," he said. "I've tried to write about who we are, what we stand for, what we fight for. I believe that these essential ideals of American identity are what's at stake on Nov. 2." Springsteen talked about the choice facing America on the recent "Vote for Change" tour benefiting America Coming Together, but this time he delivered his remarks with much more of the world watching. Hundreds of journalists from around the globe hung on Springsteen's every word. And with people jammed through the streets leading to Wisconsin's State Capitol, the city of Madison literally stood still to listen. Springsteen ticked off a long list of the things that matter: economic justice, a living wage, a "sane and responsible foreign policy," civil rights, and "the protection and safeguarding of our precious democracy here at home." He said: "I believe that John Kerry honors these ideals. He has lived our history over the past 60 years, and he has formed an adult view of America and its people. " Quietly strumming his guitar as he spoke, Springsteen said Kerry understands that people are not infallible, that struggle and heartbreak are an inevitable part of the human experience. "That's why we need each other," he said. "That's why 'United We Stand' ... and 'one nation indivisible' aren't just slogans. They need to remain the guiding principles of our public life." Springsteen called on the country to face "America's hard truths, both the good and the bad." "That's where we find a deeper patriotism, that's where we find a more complete view of who we are. That's where we find a more authentic experience as citizens, and that's where we find the power ... to make our world a better and a safer place." As the huge crowd grew quiet, Springsteen quoted the late Sen. Paul Wellstone -- "The future is for the passionate" -- and he said the time to act is now. "That's why I'm here today to stand alongside Senator Kerry and to tell you that the country we carry in our hearts is waiting." When he was done, Springsteen reached for his guitar and leaned into "No Surrender," the song that opens every Kerry campaign rally. As autumn leaves fell around him, Springsteen reinvented the song. The anthemic rock 'n' roll song became a meditation on promises made and hopes held tight, and he dedicated it to John Kerry. The largest crowd -- ever, for anything -- in Madison's history exploded in applause. When Kerry took the stage a few minutes later, he fed on the energy. While he'll never match Springsteen's poetry, Kerry's Madison speech was strong and sharp and carried all the passion that Paul Wellstone or Bruce Springsteen could have asked of him. He hit Bush hard for ignoring reality in Iraq, for putting American troops at risk, for turning his back on the middle class in favor of the big corporations that support him. Somewhere in there, the usually humor-challenged Kerry got off a good line that underscored the cultural divide -- and so much else -- between the candidates: When Bush heard that "The Boss" was performing in Madison, Kerry said, "he thought we meant Dick Cheney." http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2004/10/28/kerry_springsteen/print.html Posted by: Jo on October 29, 2004 12:02 AMJo, thanks for that Salon article....what a contrast between the NYTimes blaze tired cliche hack work and the Salon article....I feel better now. Almost....looks like I'm also getting a cold. Posted by: judi gemini on October 29, 2004 12:17 AMJo...that should have been 'blase`" not 'blaze" Posted by: judi gemini on October 29, 2004 12:18 AMWell as I watched the video from KSTP, I wondered whether the IAEA seals were perhaps visible anywhere, to help silence the "they were at the wrong place" argument. Well.............Daily Kos update on missing explosives at AlQaaqa...the video captures the seal on the door!!! http://kstp.com/article/stories/S3741.html?cat=1
I will add that I saw something in the video that looked similar to the seals, but with limited resolution, etc. couldn't be sure. So this really made my day. Let's see them weasel out of this! Posted by: KM on October 29, 2004 12:28 AMOh my gosh! Those photos are just wonderful!!!! Oh man! What a tonic for my heart. Posted by: Pat C on October 29, 2004 01:03 AMSharon Katz, Your signs and wires were received at Kerry HQ in If you and your husband are coming, a friend of mine and her husband, close by, will put you up - and we'll have some time to chat, meet...you can do phone work, drive around with me putting out flyers and signs, or go with J Outreach canvassing there's plenty to do if you want to come...and if Post here or under the new subject by Robert and I'll look for your post, tomorrow afternoon as to what you are doing and we can figure out how to meet up. We have Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon yet. It looks like Kerry, Kerry, Kerry in Florida - overwhelmingly - A Kerry win, but does he take office? If he doesn't Edwards could....after a confrontation with the "powers". The bushistas have gotten very very aggressive at the polling/voting places. Believe it or not they are proselytizing to the Kerry campaigners. I told them let's agree to disagree, you want Bush and I want Kerry to win....and not discuss it any further. Then a republican EVANGELIST lawyer came out, and I'm not sure if he knew what hit him, whether he was in shock, or just surprised at the things I knew and spoke of...but his efforts to convert me to Bushista certainly failed.. :) It certainly has not been and will not be a dull I have no doubt they will try many ways to steal this election too....people are not fooled by the fact that they have to wait three hours in the hot sun to vote - because Theresa LePore has not put out enough machines. They know it is a ploy to discourage voters! By the way, Governor Dukakis' son is even down here in Delray HQ helping out. It'll be amazing to see who turns up next!!! You can not know what a busy bee hive that office is - when you walk in you see 40 men and women on phones...others doing other things...graphs, charts, signs on the walls.... And P.S. - poor Ed Koch was here yesterday. When he didn't like a question from the audience he told them to shut up...many people got up and walked out...one fellow was asking questions and a republican tackled him to shut him up...I was told by reporters that the tackler was handcuffed and taken away ----pretty disgraceful. Someone said they wished the repugnants would send Koch out more, it could only be good for the dems. :) Did you say there was a Full Moon out there? Posted by: Pallas18 on October 29, 2004 05:32 AMJo, yes the shrub really did that....although it didn't make a big splash here....just a 5 second newsclip. They're really living in a fantasy land, imagining that it will impress a second time, or that everyone would be as impressed with Rove's showing off the resident's toys as they all are. Posted by: Pallas18 on October 29, 2004 05:46 AMNice to hear the appreciative words for Madison my hme town and where Iam now. Missed kerry however but I could hear the roar of the crowd from where I was at the time. Heard where Kerry was told sometine last year that he had about as much chance of winning the presidency as of the Boston Redsox winning the world series. Or it ws something like you wont be president till Boston wins the "series" ah yes the river Charles "how I love that dirty water Boston thats my town, Boston thats my town". Iwonder if the chart for Boston shows that they would have the superbowl champion win the world series and have the senator that represents then be3elcted president all in the same year. Its possible after all the fifth house rules both poltics and sports. I hope I can get this link right found this on the commentary section of http://astrodatabank.com Apparently some of the most famous mundane astrologers all agree that Kerry will win and that bush cannot win. This is reassureing as these guys are in a category when it comes to prediction that western astrolgers can only dream about. http://www.newindpress.com/news.asp?id=iel20041028001822 Chas, this is the url for the Kerry discussion at Astroworld where you talk about inauguration charts...is this what you were talking about? http://astrodatabank.com/NM/Feedback.asp?ChartID=39776 Posted by: judi gemini on October 29, 2004 06:51 PMChas, Judi, thanks for the url.
