The Bully Brigade

With the passing of Labor Day, the quadrennial national wrestling match is in full swing. Drenched in illicit steroids, the defending “champion” is pummeling the challenger with a set of punishing brass knuckles. Meanwhile, the stench of Rovian dishonesty and dirty tricks is befouling the air like a toxic cloud. Although somewhat bloodied, our standard bearer is not yet down for the count.

Closer to home, we find neighborhood right-wing Brownshirts shredding Kerry lawn signs and egging houses. Horns beep at us, followed by invective, to disparage our bumper stickers. In Galveston, Texas, a Democratic campaign headquarters has its front window broken, with a Bush/Cheney sign left to speak amongst the shards. Elsewhere, another fascist thug, this one from a “Christian” organization, starts punching Veterans for Kerry who are marching peacefully. Here is the real trickle down of the Bush regime: The Bully Brigade.

Three clear lines of attack are necessary to defeat the onslaught of propaganda, fear-mongering, and character assassination oozing out of the cesspool of the White House campaign headquarters. The first is to debunk the treacherous myth that America is safer under George Bush. A simple, oft-repeated review of the well-documented facts is all that is necessary:

* The number of terrorists worldwide has grown exponentially as a result of our invasion of Iraq;

* The United States, since the advent of the presidency of George Bush, is more disliked and more disrespected than ever in its history. The preemptive war doctrine and the bullying foreign policy of this administration have infuriated the world and lost us the support of allies;

* Our military forces are stretched very thin and under tremendous strain, leaving us little flexibility in the event of an emergency;

* Our increasing debt and weak economy go hand in hand with decreasing economic clout which could be used in successful diplomacy.

The truth is that George Bush has made the world far more threatening and dangerous for Americans due to his reckless, irresponsible, and belligerent policies. That truth must be told.

Secondly, the theme of Bush’s dishonesty must be pushed until the word liar and Bush become synonymous. Bush has lied repeatedly about his National Guard service, about the effect of his economic policies and who will benefit, about the existence of WMD’s in Iraq, about Saddam’s purported connection to al Qaida, about why we really went to Iraq, about the cost of his Medicare program, about the destructive impact on the environment of his deregulation, and about John Kerry. Every time Bush opens his mouth, all of our spokespeople and our candidates should be saying: “There he goes again!”

And finally, the issue of Bush’s loyalty is ripe for plundering. To whom is this man in the Oval Office loyal? All of his policies benefit the corporate elite and the richest 1% at the expense of the American people. His biggest campaign contributors - the pharmaceutical companies, the insurance industry, the logging industry, the defense industry, the coal, oil, and gas industries - receive huge windfalls from Bush’s relaxation of regulations and manipulation of legislation. The rest of us get to pay higher prices and be poisoned by an increasingly noxious environment. Global corporations have no loyalty to an individual country. They are loyal to the bottom line. Are these Bush’s constituents?

At the moment, John Kerry is struggling to get his message across the airwaves, above the deafening screeches of Bush’s media-savvy Storm Troopers. According to my calculations, the current planetary aspect plaguing Kerry is his converse Moon square to natal Saturn. Due to a natal Saturn/Moon conjunction, any progressed or transiting aspect between these two planets tends to cause the Democratic candidate significant grief and painful difficulties. If we use the 8:03 AM chart currently accepted for Kerry, this month-long progression will peak around October 5. If we use the previously accepted one that gives 7:10 AM as the birth time, this progression will peak around September 18. In either case, it waxes and then recedes well before the election, but it will continue to cause severe strain for the candidate during its time of impact. We may see particular evidence of this on September 14 and 15 when the Sun and Mars will both be square to Kerry’s natal Saturn. Unfortunately, any strong Saturn energy in Kerry’s chart magnifies his tendency to be stiff and aloof, and this may become more of an issue in the coming days until this progression passes.

In October, much of the dust seems to clear from the Kerry campaign. Kerry’s progressed MC will move into a year-long trine with natal Pluto by mid-month and will be strongly triggered by the Jupiter/Venus conjunction of November 1 - 4. In addition, tertiary Venus will oppose Uranus for the month of October, and Jupiter will cross Kerry’s MC later in the month. Moreover, progressed Moon will be sextile natal Venus beginning in late September through much of October. These aspects imply a smooth and beneficial period that can do much to heal the wounds of the previous month. November will bring Uranus, stationary and then direct, back into its trine with Kerry’s Venus and the US Venus, unencumbered by any of the Saturn/Moon energy in Kerry’s chart that was noticeable during the aspect’s first pass in September. There is nothing from October 6 through January to suggest the dismay or disappointment that would surely be indicated if this election were tragically lost to the bullying and power-hungry Bushistas.

Despite the recent improvement in presidential poll numbers for George Bush, early September brought the first crossing of Saturn square to his MC. This aspect reignited the story of Bush’s missed time in the Texas Air National Guard and brought charges that the administration was well aware of the widespread prison abuse issue as early as 2002 and did nothing to stop it. This period also brought an increase in violence and carnage in Iraq, where US military casualties reached the significant 1000 mark. None of these issues is likely to go away any time soon, and they may well become increasingly burdensome for Bush over the next few months.

It would seem that difficulties will mount for the Resident–in-Chief as of late September 2004, continuing through January 2005 and beyond. From late September through mid-December, Saturn will return to Bush’s natal Saturn position, conjunct the Bush/US composite Venus, conjunct the Inaugural chart IC, square the Bush/Cheney composite Sun, and opposite Jeb Bush’s Moon and square his natal Saturn. Every one of these positions will sustain the intensity of the lengthy Saturn station, implying a period of sorrow, burden, and difficulty. A loss of warm feeling and harmony is indicated in the Bush/US relationship (Venus), and thwarted or frustrated goals may develop in the Bush/Cheney relationship (Sun), with both positions receiving an extended hard aspect from Saturn. Jeb Bush, the heir apparent in the Bush Dynasty, looks very upset by the events of October and November. I find it very hard to read a victory for Bush in these aspects and very easy to read this period as one of loss, disappointment, and regrouping.

The final planetary aspect worth mentioning is the return of the potent Pluto transit opposing US Mars, reenergized in the beginning of September with Pluto’s return to direct motion. The increasingly vicious domestic partisan war, as well as the escalation of intensive battles in Iraq and Afghanistan, are both manifestations of this energy. November will be the final month of the Pluto/Mars transit, and we are likely to see the malicious and rancorous mood of the campaign continue for about four weeks after the actual election. Our soldiers struggling in the war zone may also see some fierce battles during that month.

As this nail-biter of an election continues, devotees of the political process are becoming increasingly agitated. Fear and loathing of the opposition are creating an increasingly volatile situation in both camps. If George Bush loses this race as I am predicting, he and his minions are not likely to concede gracefully. Unfortunately, the post-election aspects suggest some nasty outbursts from the fascist wing of the American electorate. Bullies don’t take kindly to defeat.

Nancy,

Wonderful article! I'll have to read and re-read it to fully understand and follow the different transits, etc., but I greatly enjoyed what I wrote. We just have to stay calm through the rest of this month (half-way there, you know) and look forward to October. :-)

The Bully Brigade indeed! These are not fair and balanced individuals. Not at all. The blind rage they carry is irrational and unhealthy. The blind loyalty, worse.

Thank you!

The bit I wrote about yeard signs being stolen and motorists yelling nasty things about my bumper stickers really happened to me. I just saw a thread over at DU about yard sign thefts all over the country. These people really are bullies and, just like their Saint George, they have no interest in respecting other people's rights or property.

Posted by: Nancy on September 13, 2004 02:12 AM

Nancy,

You really nailed it this time. You picked up on an extremely important theme and your clarification rang true for me as our yard sign was shredded and a neighbor's across the street was tampered with. Well, we'll fix them! We ordered 25 new lawn signs to give away to the Democrats in our neighborhood as well as 100 bumper stickers & buttons! If the lawn signs are uniformly vandalized, then those that did it will make themselves look bad!

The rest of your article was music to my ears. As we say in my family: "From your mouth to G-d's ears!"

Wonderful article, Nancy, as usual. It's awfully hard to listen to some of the talk show hosts crowing about how Bush has the election won already. You know they aren't astrologers! Has anyone thought of sending some of the articles to the Kerry campaign? I'll bet they have someone over there that is open to astrology.

Welcome to Gloria from the previous thread. I hope someone here with more experience than me can take the time to answer her questions about Cheney.

How to start your day with a positive attitude

1. Create a "new folder" on your computer.

2. Name it "George W. Bush".

3. Send it to the trash.

4. Empty the trash.

5. Your computer will ask you: "Do you really want to get rid of "George W. Bush"?

6. Answer calmly, "Yes", and press the mouse button firmly.

Nancy, thank you for another informative and thought provoking article. Do you happen to have Jeb Bush's birth data available?

Also, with the USA chart do you see anything that would portend some sort of Civil War like split perhaps on a Waco style level because of the election results?

I guess your sentence, "Unfortunately, the post-election aspects suggest some nasty outbursts from the fascist wing of the American electorate. Bullies don’t take kindly to defeat." says it.

Deep down I have been fearing this, I've just never been able to put the feeling into words. Then, I saw this blip on CNN headline news about an Anti Kerry rally made up of Swift boat devotees. What feeds all this hate?

Ty to Pat C. for that one.

I asked him last week what were the attitudes of some of his wealthier clients. He told me they have tunnel vision.........as long as they have these bloody tax-cuts, and the illusion that they are part of the class that will profit from war and chaos, they want Bush.

(If you want to become truly ill, watch Lawrence Kudlow on CNBC some evening. I myself can't take it anymore.)

Moon: 26Cap01
Saturn: 27Libra15

How can he be happy in November? If it were just him, I would wonder about something personal. But Bush has Saturn at 26 Cancer, the Inaugural IC is 26 Cancer, etc., etc. as listed in my article.

Meanwhile, John McCain's Moon is 26Capricorn54. Schwarzenegger's Venus is 26Cancer22. Those two joined the wrong team.

It will be another forum in which we can all have a place to share our views of what is happening in the world of politics, popular culture, and world events from an Astrological perspective.

If anyone is interested in this, please email me and I'll put you on my mailing list and keep you posted. Also, I am looking for astrologers who might be interested in writing a semi-regular column about relevant topics.

The strange thing about all the lies is that they are completely unnecessary. What I mean is this (ducking for cover): if you actually go to the PNAC website ( http://www.newamericancentury.org/ )and read all the documents there - esp. the letters to Clinton, you may even find yourself agreeing with some things. Like it or not, oil IS vital to the long-term security of the United States. And the neo-con philosophy of preemption and a return to some form of "empire" in the national interest should be open to debate. Why they chose to hide all this from the American people and wrap the agenda in the vague "war on terrorism" is beyond me. Maybe they don't want to scare people - "hey, 9/11 and Iraq are all about oil. Because there ain't that much left anyway and your lifestyle as you know it simply would not exist without it".

Amid all the hoopla about Saddam earlier this year, one little news item almost went unnoticed: it was that America was on the verge of using nuclear weapons against OPEC states during the 1973 oil crisis and only the intervention of the British government (Harold Wilson?) prevented it.

However, as that link from The Mountain Astrolger in the previous thread pointed out, whoever wins in November faces a very tough road ahead. And there are tough choices to be made.

I am very worried because I live in a place that has loads of oil and natural gas and is also just off the coast of Venezuela. We also have, suprise, suprise, our own home-grown Isalmic Fundamentalists (funny how they seem to show up when there's oil around...) who already tried to overthrow the government not too long ago and were specially-invited guests to Chavez's recent victory celebrations. Sorry, I'm really not looking forward to being "collateral damage".

* On the cusp of Being Awakened

After a day of spirited yet peaceful protest by a heartfelt gathering, NYC waited under a mutable full moon. A strong showing from the now vociferous majority (silence is not golden). The Pisces Moon met electric Uranus to guide us out of a trance like state into conscious rebellion. With the Pisces Moon holding hands with Uranus in the 11th Hse of Community, the powers of numbers were strong & solid. Among the 500,000 demonstrators were dedicated anti-war reps like Michael Moore, Rev Jesse Jackson, actors Danny Glover and Rosie Perez, all dedicated to waging peace. Everyone was committed to dethroning the Emperors bush-cheney Dyslexicon. The details and planning of the marches and protests were handled by the Virgo Sun/Mars in the 5th hse of creative expression. Much awakening has occurred in a year's time for the voices of freedom speaking against the imperialist Iraqi occupation. My mind travels back to another full moon in Pisces on 9/10/03 underscored the closest passage of Mars to the earth in 60,000 years. At that time we had reached a critical juncture after getting a taste of how deadly the ruthless use of force and coercion. Voices crying out for mercy and sanity have been battered by Uranian oppositions most recently the Sun in Virgo opposes Uranus at 5° Pisces - asking us to think out of the box by integrating out left brained Virgo analytical powers with the rebellious and compassionate Uranus in Pisces. The lights are We stand on the brink awakened to need to address national and world crisis.

Pluto turns direct at Black Hole Ereshkigal on August 30th - We wait on the cliff overlooking not just a political crisis also an evolutionary crisis. ... http://www.aquasoul.com/PiscesFull04.html

Mars, I think I saw an article yesterday indicating the US was going to impose sanctions against Venezeula, I thought then that it had to do with oil and would be just the beginning. Often the "Hitler" years have been referred to as "The World Gone Mad" well that's the way I feel about these years.

There's no reason on Gaia's beautiful Planet why human becomings have to accept a false 1-choice... oil or not to oil (before it runs out, that is)... used to fuel the boyz toyz. HOW in Gaia's World did human becomings get along w/o OIL for 10s of 1000s of years before them Texas Oil Boyz decided to Rule the World. No... nobody has to accept such destructive nonsense. My old spiritual teacher used to say "take conventional wisdom (mass mind garbage), turn it upside down & inside out, & one begins to recognize the Truth." The Truth or Reality rooted in the Living World is the crux of the matter... not a world of psychosis made in somebody's head & declared to be "real" imo. ;O)

nancy, excellent article and particularly important in view of the post-election problems that may come. if it's bush bullies acting out because they lost, i suppose there is some good in that since it means they lost. the trend in this country is toward the democratic party is inevitable (see ruy teixeira:

http://www.ndol.org/ndol_ci.cfm?contentid=250867&kaid=127&subid=173

the resistance to a second legitimately elected president will lead, i believe, to the collapse of the republican party (already underway if you listen to the three moderates left). it will also hasten the shift to 'new media.' how many of you know that cnn is it's death bed. there is no way that they can be viable with their best show (king) polling just .6 milion people. guess who is coming on line with an all news network, al gore.

resistance begets counter-resistance. hopefully, there will be no violence.

I, too, see some sort of civil war. I certainly feel it...and it couldn't be coming from the Democrats. So it must be a Democratic victory--16 years of White House residency-- and Republican rage. I hope they don't use their new assault weapons!

The Presidential Election: A Moving Target in 2004

On September 24th, the balance of influence for the 2004 election will begin to wobble and shift. It will become a moving target and remain difficult to predict until the last votes are in on election night.

Jupiter, the planet that rules promotions and publicity and advertising, will move from Virgo to Libra at 11:23:21 PM ET in Washington, DC, on September 24, 2004. The public mood will shift from an interest in petty criticisms to a desire for balanced coverage and justice for the underdog.

I think the lies are used to dupe the masses of this country, knowing they will never be interested enough to find out what's going on, and to purposely confuse them. Their aim is more than oil. It is world domination through perpetual war, endless budget deficit, impoverishment and crippling of the people, etc.
Who would advertise that?
Maybe the Iraq war was meant to be not won--hence, no- and I mean NO game plan. They put the troops there with absolutely no one who could speak the language.
I heard a British historian say that their power was diminishing... and that it would definitely be a good idea to change leadership.
Apparently 10 of the original 40 signees are now in the White House...I think they are blowing it,anyway--too fast and abortive--like they don't have enough time.

Sally, I too read about sanctions on Venezula. The neocons attempted to overthrow a democraticly elected Chavez, but failed. Now they are going to try and bring him down thru sanctions. It is about oil to some extend, but what ticks them off about Chavez is that he is using the oil money to help the poor. And this isn't to say that Chavez is perfect, but he is a hell of lot better than those greedy, American-government-loving dictators and tyrants who came before.

Some Terrorists Still Good Guys In Bush Administration's View
by Meteor Blades
Sun Sep 12th, 2004 at 21:10:12 GMT

Not all terrorists are created equal in the eyes of official Washington. That’s not news, obviously. For decades, the U.S. has backed terrorists when this suited its purposes. Elements among the contras of Nicaragua, who used their own and CIA-honed terrorist techniques, provide a well-known example.

A political naïf might have expected the fact that 9/11 “changed everything” to have undermined the double standard regarding terrorism. Yet we have NeanderCons Michael Ledeen and Daniel Pipes, as well as Congressmen such as Sam Brownback, carrying water for the Mujahedin-e Kalq (MEK), a terrorist organization devoted to the overthrow of the Iranian theocracy. These guys aren’t really terrorists, says Ledeen, but rather our allies in that greater geopolitical struggle where his ilk see morality as an impediment to victory.

But, while some members of official Washington sing the MEK’s praises and help them raise money, and while our government provides the group’s 3,800 members protection in Iraq, at least we aren’t providing them political asylum inside our own borders.

Not so with some Cuban terrorists, as noted in Soj's Diaries here and here, and in today’s Los Angeles Times:

Amid Cheers, Terrorists Have Landed in the U.S.

To curry favor with Cuban Americans, Bush turns a blind eye

By Julia E. Sweig and Peter Kornbluh

A little-noticed but chilling scene at Opa-locka Airport outside Miami last month demonstrates that the Bush administration's commitment to fighting international terrorism can be overtaken by presidential politics — even if that means admitting known terrorists onto U.S. soil.

That's what happened when outgoing Panamanian President Mireya Moscoso inexplicably pardoned four Cuban exiles convicted of "endangering public safety" for their role in an assassination plot against Fidel Castro during a 2000 international summit in Panama.

After their release, three of the four immediately flew via private jet to Miami, where they were greeted with a cheering fiesta organized by the hard-line anti-Castro community. Federal officials briefly interviewed the pardoned men — all holders of U.S. passports — and then let them go their way.

The fourth man, Luis Posada Carriles, was the most notorious member of this anti-Castro cell. He is an escapee from a prison in Venezuela, where he was incarcerated for blowing up an Air Cubana passenger plane in 1976, killing 73. He also admitted plotting six hotel bombings in Havana that killed one tourist and injured 11 others in 1997. Posada has gone into hiding in Honduras while seeking a Central American country that will harbor him, prompting Honduran President Ricardo Maduro to demand an explanation from the Bush administration on how a renowned terrorist could enter his country using a false U.S. passport.

The terrorist backgrounds of Posada's three comrades-in-arms are as well documented as their leader's. …

For a small but powerful minority in the Cuban American community, the Posada gang are freedom fighters. But Sept. 11 taught the rest of us about the danger of political fanatics who seek to rationalize their violence. To uphold his oft-stated principle that no nation can be neutral in the war on terrorism, shouldn't President Bush have condemned Moscoso's decision to release these terrorists? To protect the sanctity of U.S. borders and the security of Americans, shouldn't the administration have taken all available steps to keep known terrorists out of the United States?

But Florida is crucial to Bush's reelection strategy. Currying favor with anti-Castro constituents in Miami appears to trump the president's anti-terrorism principles. So far, not a single White House, State Department or Homeland Security official has expressed outrage at Panama's decision to put terrorists back on the world's streets. The FBI appears to have no plans to lead a search for Posada so he can be returned to Venezuela, where he is a wanted fugitive. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, which has rounded up and expelled hundreds of foreigners on the mere suspicion of a terrorist link, has indicated no intention to detain and deport Novo, Jimenez and Remon. …

"I think you can create conditions so that those who use terror as a tool are less acceptable in parts of the world," Bush recently said in an interview.

But the decision to allow members of the Posada gang into this country, and the televised spectacle of Miamians applauding their return, sends a different and dangerous message: In a swing state, some terrorists are not only acceptable but welcome."

[DailyKos's MB's comments:]
Whatever one’s view on U.S. policy toward Cuba – and I view it as moronically counterproductive – it is breathtaking that the same Administration which speaks incessantly of its determination to deal harshly with terrorists turns a blind eye to the presence of these murderers in our midst.

Mr. President, we know your advisers have told you Florida is key to your winning a second term and that the Cuban-American vote is key to that contest, but have you no fucking shame, sir? Not even a drop? "

For what it's worth, I have read on several Vedic sites that the 7:10 birth time for Kerry is the one that has been the most successfully rectified, so.... maybe he'll be out of the woods by Saturday!

That link posted by mars is just unbelievable. Who gives autority to the f***ing RNC to hold people prisoner? The NYC police must have been complicit, or they could and should indict the RNC for unlawfularrest, no? Oh, right, the Repug mayor, I forgot. This is OUTRAGEOUS. Not in MY country, damn it! The words, "collapse of the Republican party" felt like an emergency blood transfusion. If the mainstream media isn't going to report these atrocities, WE must. Protect the Vote
By BOB HERBERT

Published: September 13, 2004

More than 80 percent of the population of Detroit is black. This is very well understood by John Pappageorge, who is white and a Republican state legislator in Michigan. "If we do not suppress the Detroit vote," said Mr. Pappageorge, "we're going to have a tough time in this election."

Oops! Republicans aren't supposed to actually say they want to suppress black votes. That's so retro. It's so Jim Crow. This is the 21st century, and the thing now is to do the dastardly deed, but never ever acknowledge it.

That's where our friend Pappageorge went wrong.

brilliant posts and links, as usual.

If I've learned anything from this site, especially lately, it's this: you CANNOT expect to win an argument with the other side.

My suggestion is that we save the energy we use to argue and instead, we quietly go about doing whatever is necessary to remove these farcical fascists from office.

Spread the word and let them be judged by their words and their deeds. They ARE in control now but we can bring them down, by speading the TRUTH about them.

And I'm not sure what "God" is "speaking" to "B*sh", but MY God has a few harsh words for him......
he may "win" again, but he will ultimately meet justice.

Rest assured in that. Peace and light to all--no one can bring us down without our consent.

And now, Truth warriors, go forth and conquer!!!! :)

To affirm Nancy's label of the "Bully Brigade" I offered the piece from Kos and the link above... the article so intrigued me with its report of ties to terrorists to Miami that I dug a little more. One of the four freed was Orlando Bosch. Apparently, the Sun Sentinel finds these ties interesting... for they bind to Jeb Bush and to Poppy: http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/opinion/sfl-08forum07sep11,0,5886862.story?coll=sfla-news-opinion

Bush Sr. pardoned Orlando Bosch, who was linked to the Cubana Airlines bombing in October, 1976.

Here is an interesting excerpt from a 2001 US Congressional report by the Committee on Government Reform on controversial pardons:
Orlando Bosch. In 1990, the Bush Justice Department granted a parole to Orlando Bosch after being lobbied by Jeb Bush, the son of the President. Mr. Bosch was an antiCastro activist who was suspected of dozens of bombings, as well as the 1976 bombing of a Cuban airliner which killed 73 civilians aboard. New York Times, Cuban Linked to Terror Bombings Is Freed By Government in Miami (July 18, 1990); New York Times, Bomber Away? (July 22, 1990); Salon, The Bush Pardons (Feb. 27, 2001).
----------

LA Times headline in Kos piece says "Bush turns a blind eye" --- I don't agree... I believe all the Bushites see quite clearly who is a 'terrorist' and who is not... [some think a 'blind eye' was turned on 9/11...]

One has to wonder how long the Bushites have been importing thugs, 'terrorists' to this country... Texas and Florida have become 'entities' unto themselves... perhaps that is more pervasive than suspected. Certainly all the Iran-Contra thugs have crawled out from under the woodwork... some gaining control in Washington, some in Iraq...

Yes Nancy, to what and to whom are these folks loyal?

"To whom is this man in the Oval Office loyal? All of his policies benefit the corporate elite and the richest 1% at the expense of the American people. His biggest campaign contributors - the pharmaceutical companies, the insurance industry, the logging industry, the defense industry, the coal, oil, and gas industries - receive huge windfalls from Bush’s relaxation of regulations and manipulation of legislation. The rest of us get to pay higher prices and be poisoned by an increasingly noxious environment. Global corporations have no loyalty to an individual country. They are loyal to the bottom line. Are these Bush’s constituents?"

Nancy, The Black Commentator calls the cabal pirates...

Etymology: Middle English, from Middle French or Latin; Middle French, from Latin pirata, from Greek peiratEs, from peiran to attempt -- more at FEAR
: one who commits or practices 'piracy' --- robbery on high seas or made to appear as such (Neptune?); the unauthorized use of another's production, invention, or conception [sounds like 'theft' to me!]

And how is this ‘fear’ perpetrated? Through ‘terror’ — the war on terror... terror: Etymology: Middle English, from Middle French terreur, from Latin terror, from terrEre to frighten; akin to Greek trein to be afraid, flee, tremein to tremble -- more at TREMBLE
1 : a state of intense fear
2 a : one that inspires fear : SCOURGE b : a frightening aspect c : a cause of anxiety : WORRY d : an appalling person or thing;

Pirates take, steal — through the use of fear ---- they claim allegiance to no country... no thing ...

Piracy is an ACT OF TREASON...

--------------
"Bin Laden sees the Muslim world as continually invaded, divided and weakened by outside forces. Among these is the Americans in Saudi Arabia and the Israelis in geographical Palestine. He repeatedly complained about the occupation of the three holy cities, i.e., Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem.

For al-Qaeda to succeed, it must overthrow the individual nation-states in the Middle East, most of them colonial creations, and unite them into a single, pan-Islamic state. But Ayman al-Zawahiri's organization, al-Jihad al-Islami, had tried very hard to overthrow the Egyptian state, and was always checked. Al-Zawahiri thought it was because of US backing for Egypt. They believed that the US also keeps Israel dominant in the Levant, and backs Saudi Arabia's royal family.

Al-Zawahiri then hit upon the idea of attacking the "far enemy" first. That is, since the United States was propping up the governments of Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, etc., all of which al-Qaeda wanted to overthrow so as to meld them into a single, Islamic super-state, then it would hit the United States first.

The attack on the World Trade Center was exactly analogous to Pearl Harbor. The Japanese generals had to neutralize the US fleet so that they could sweep into Southeast Asia and appropriate Indonesian petroleum. The US was going to cut off imperial Japan from petroleum, and without fuel the Japanese could not maintain their empire in China and Korea. So they pushed the US out of the way and took an alternative source of petroleum away from the Dutch (which then ruled what later became Indonesia).

Likewise, al-Qaeda was attempting to push the United States out of the Middle East so that Egypt, Jordan, Israel and Saudi Arabia would become more vulnerable to overthrow, lacking a superpower patron. Secondarily, the attack was conceived as revenge on the United States and American Jews for supporting Israel and the severe oppression of the Palestinians. Bin Laden wanted to move the timing of the operation up to spring of 2001 so as to "punish" the Israelis for their actions against the Palestinians in the second Intifadah. Khalid Shaikh Muhammad was mainly driven in planning the attack by his rage at Israel over the Palestinian issue. Another goal is to destroy the US economy, so weakening it that it cannot prevent the emergence of the Islamic superpower.

Al-Qaeda wanted to build enthusiasm for the Islamic superstate among the Muslim populace, to convince ordinary Muslims that the US could be defeated and they did not have to accept the small, largely secular, and powerless Middle Eastern states erected in the wake of colonialism. Jordan's population, e.g. is 5.6 million. Tunisia, a former French colony, is 10 million, less than Michigan. Most Muslims have been convinced of the naturalness of the nation-state model and are proud of their new nations, however small and weak. Bin Laden had to do a big demonstration project to convince them that another model is possible.

Bin Laden hoped the US would timidly withdraw from the Middle East. But he appears to have been aware that an aggressive US response to 9/11 was entirely possible. In that case, he had a Plan B: al-Qaeda hoped to draw the US into a debilitating guerrilla war in Afghanistan and do to the US military what they had earlier done to the Soviets. Al-Zawahiri's recent message shows that he still has faith in that strategy.

The US cleverly outfoxed al-Qaeda in Afghanistan, using air power and local Afghan allies (the Northern Alliance) to destroy the Taliban without many American boots on the ground.

Ironically, however, the Bush administration then went on to invade Iraq for no good reason, where Americans faced the kind of wearing guerrilla war they had avoided in Afghanistan.

Al-Qaeda has succeeded in several of its main goals. It had been trying to convince Muslims that the United States wanted to invade Muslim lands, humiliate Muslim men, and rape Muslim women. Most Muslims found this charge hard to accept. The Bush administration's Iraq invasion, along with the Abu Ghuraib prison torture scandal, was perceived by many Muslims to validate Bin Laden's wisdom and foresightedness.

After the Iraq War, Bin Laden is more popular than George W. Bush even in a significantly secular Muslim country such as Turkey. This is a bizarre finding, a weird turn of events. Turks didn't start out with such an attitude. It grew up in reaction against US policies.

It remains to be seen whether the US will be forced out of Iraq the way it was forced out of Iran in 1979. If so, as al-Zawahiri says, that will be a huge victory. A recent opinion poll did find that over 80 percent of Iraqis want an Islamic state. If Iraq goes Islamist, that will be the biggest victory the movement has had since the rise of the Taliban in Afghanistan. An Islamist Iraq might well be able ultimately to form a joint state with Syria, starting the process of the formation of the Islamic superstate of which Bin Laden dreams.

If the Muslim world can find a way to combine the sophisticated intellectuals and engineers of Damascus and Cairo with the oil wealth of the Persian Gulf, it could well emerge as a 21st century superpower.

Bin Laden's dream of a united Muslim state under a revived caliphate may well be impossible to accomplish. But with the secular Baath gone, it could be one step closer to reality. If you add to the equation the generalized hatred for US policies (both against the Palestinians and in Iraq) among Muslims, that is a major step forward for al-Qaeda. In Saudi Arabia, al-Qaeda has emerged as a dissident political party. Before it had just been a small group of Bin Laden's personal acolytes in Afghanistan and a handful of other countries.

Although the United States and its Pakistani ally have captured significant numbers of al-Qaeda operatives in Afghanistan and Pakistan, a whole new generation of angry young Muslim men has been produced. Al-Qaeda has moved from being a concrete cell-based terrorist organization to being an ideal and a model, for small local groups in Casablanca, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and elsewhere.

The US is not winning the war on terror. Al-Qaeda also has by no means won. But across a whole range of objectives, al-Qaeda has accomplished more of its goals than the US has of its.

I love this site - but I haven't been posting because "I'm not worthy". This is one site where the posts are almost as informative as the articles.

It is also great that so many of you share my political views. I hate to admit it - but I have stopped talking to most of my Republican friends. Does that make me a bad person? I have the Sun, Moon, Mercury and Venus in Gemini, so normally I like a good conversation. But the Sun is on the Cancer cusp, and my ascend is 19 degrees Cancer. So Saturn just crossed over to my first house. I also have 3 planets (Mars, Uranus and Pluto) in Virgo - which square my Gemini planets. Anyway..... I'm not sure why - but lately I can't bear to talk to anyone who is a Republician. I feel it is a waste of time to try and reason with them. One friend blamed all Bush's failures on the Democrats. I asked "How can you blame the Dems when the Repubs have the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches. He said - "The Dems criticize everything Bush does - and that holds him back." I have another childhoold friend who won't vote Dem because STATE sales taxes increased under Clinton. Lately I find myself turning down lunches with friends and family get togethers because the Repugs always start talking Politics and it makes me too angry. Is anyone else having this problem?

I have to say - I think the Bush campaign is Brilliant! I was a marketing major undergrad, and they taught one of the best ways to sell a product is to associate a persons self-esteem with the product. So - the person thinks - "If I smoke this cigarette - or drink this scotch - or drive this car - that must mean I take on the characteristics I associate with other people who use those products." I think the Rebublican party has brainwashed a lot of peoople into thinking Dems are losers looking for handouts from the gov't, and Repubs are wealthy industrialists. I think some people want to associate themselves with the wealthy and not the losers - so they march along with the Repubs. As an example, I am a computer programmer, and I (used to - now unemployed - NOT on unemployement!) make anywhere from $70,000 - $100,000 a year. I have been a contractor since 1996 - and usually all contractors with the same skills get the same hourly rate. It is so funny though, because the Dems usually describe themselves as middle class - and the Repubs usally describe themselves as rich. I think for some people to vote Democratic - it would be either a huge blow to their self-esteem - or a major change in how they view the world.

Then if you add the religious right who act like if they vote for a pro-life candidate - they will go staight to hell. I think the Repubs have a huge % of the populaton wrapped up without doing anything.

However, I simply can't think about Bush for 4 more years. Kerry HAS to win. I mean Gore got more votes, and Kerry has more going for him than Gore.

Sorry for the wordy post... I had to vent..... I LOVE this site - and the links everyone adds are fantastic!

WV, in your article "The Pentagon takes on Seymor Hersh" is kind of good news. It's become more and more obvious over the last four years that the more frightened they become, the more their losing numbers begin to rise is when the attacks are the greatest by this increasingly pitiful group. The freepers come out of the woodwork, almost as if they are paid to do so. I have this vision of foaming frothing beasts being unleashed when Bush is beginning to go down the tubes and he is losing ground, not as much as he will starting in about 10 or 12 days but losing ground nonetheless and somehow they know when something is coming that will be a body slam for Bush and out they come.

Yet, I find it most interesting how you still want to believe the delusion that Kerry is going to win, because at the moment it seems far from certain he is even going to recover from all his major blunders let alone take the lead and win the votes necessary to become President. Another four more years of a man with vision, President George Bush, would yet again show you liberals how you've had nothing to promote, no solutions to problems, and have done nothing but be pessimistic, doomy, and gloomy about today and the future.

Newsweek says it's worse than you think - the War in Iraq, that is...

We're losing the country... one town at a time.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5973272/site/newsweek/

"It's not only that U.S. casualty figures keep climbing. American counterinsurgency experts are noticing some disturbing trends in those statistics. The Defense Department counted 87 attacks per day on U.S. forces in August--the worst monthly average since Bush's flight-suited visit to the USS Abraham Lincoln in May 2003. Preliminary analysis of the July and August numbers also suggests that U.S. troops are being attacked across a wider area of Iraq than ever before. And the number of gunshot casualties apparently took a huge jump in August. Until then, explosive devices and shrapnel were the primary cause of combat injuries, typical of a "phase two" insurgency, where sudden ambushes are the rule. (Phase one is the recruitment phase, with most actions confined to sabotage. That's how things started in Iraq.) Bullet wounds would mean the insurgents are standing and fighting--a step up to phase three.
Another ominous sign is the growing number of towns that U.S. troops simply avoid. A senior Defense official objects to calling them "no-go areas." "We could go into them any time we wanted," he argues. The preferred term is "insurgent enclaves." They're spreading. Counterinsurgency experts call it the "inkblot strategy": take control of several towns or villages and expand outward until the areas merge. The first city lost to the insurgents was Fallujah, in April. Now the list includes the Sunni Triangle cities of Ar Ramadi, Baqubah and Samarra, where power shifted back and forth between the insurgents and American-backed leaders last week. "There is no security force there [in Fallujah], no local government," says a senior U.S. military official in Baghdad. "We would get attacked constantly. Forget about it."

Yes .... SIX MORE WEEKS .... then 24 years...

2005-2012 Kerry
2013-2020 Edwards
2021-2028 Obama!

I think if Kerry got in it could be wonderful for the US. I read his Health Care ideas - and I thought they were great. He is big on the environment. Solar and Wind are already making huge progress - and with a little help from the Gov't - who knows what is possible. Things can really change quickly. Look how much things changed under Clinton. I never would have thought in 1992 - that by 2000 the budget wouldn't just be balanced - but we'd have a surplus. I also didn't dream in 2000 that Bush could screw up so much in 4 years. My first choice was Dean - but Kerry might really be good.

Also ... has anyone besides me wondered if the incorrect polls from Time, etc were to camouflage a stolen election?

I also find it very reassuring that so many ex-pats are voting this time around. And, this time around Nader is not going to con people into thinking there is no difference between the Repugs and Dems. I also don't think many 2000 Gore voters will go for Bush this time. To me it all adds up to a win. And I've thought for 4 years the Repubs were facists - the Nazi connection to the Bush family just brings it home.

Joanna, I swan I'm going to start collecting your wonderfully original words and phrases into a little booklet... there's so much power in them... just reading them makes me feel stronger! and I want to chant: six more weeks! six more weeks! Be gone, you pluto-olicrats... back to the rocks you came out from under...

Ahhh, something gets lost in the translation! It's not the same as when you say it! You'll just have to come on board more often and spread your peppery, strong words to bolster us 'truth warriors' (right Garry?!)

Blessed be...

SuzieLiberal!

You are worthy and then some. Loved your post! You said what my broker did, but much better and clearer. People love to imagine themselves part of the ruling class, and calling themselves rich on $80,000 per is just for starters. I think the poor dupes actually believe they'll get a piece of the spoils from the Bushies raping and pillaging of our wounded Gaia. I really wonder how long they'll eat crumbs before realising that's the whole menu?

They're the people who think a knock-off Vuitton from a discount store makes them just like Paris Hilton. It's so pathetic I almost feel sorry for them. Sooner or later reality hits even the dumbest!

(The religious faction will probably hang tough until the Rapture! lol)

Please post often.........you write well!

Thanks Joanna Oregon! Unfortunately - most of the people I work with are Repugs. Most of the people from my hometown in Indiana are also Repugs. I've gotten to know them very well. It's true - they usually aren't well-educated. They don't read books unless they are 1) how to get rich or 2) how to lose weight or 3) why Dems are REALLY bad people. They ARE greedy - always trying to get someone else to pick up the tab - and they are lousy tippers! They don't appreciate Art. They won't let their pets sleep in their bed. Some of them found "God" in a 12 step program, so they value Spirituality - as long as it is EXACTLY what they believe - otherwise - well - you're going to Hell! They don't want to pay taxes - but they don't mind giving money to the church. I assuming that's to insure that they have a first class ticket to heaven. I have them all stereotyped in my head!!!! :) (I'm only slightly kidding!)

From Le Monde

The most serious incident yesterday took place in Haifa street, on the right bank of the Tigirs. One of several US patrols is trying to locate the artillerymen who have been firing since dawn on the Green Zone. A boobytrapped car approaches a Bradley armored vehicle and explodes. The six US soliders inside, all of whom are wounded, manage to escape the burning vehicle but come under Kalachnikov fire. They withdraw. In the muzzle of the tank cannon, insurgents plant the black and yellow flag of Tawhid wal Jihad, the group led by Abu Mussab Al-Zarkaoui, a presumed Al Qaeda leader in Iraq.

Once the small arms fire ends, a crowd of curious onlookers assembles. People stare at the scene, stupefied.

Rather than sending in ground reinforcements to recover the Bradley, the US military dispatched combat helicopters. Even though by now there are only civilians in the street, some of whom are dancing and singing in celebration next to the burning hulk of the Bradley, the helicopter launches its missiles at them to "avoid looting of sensitive equipment" and to "avoid harming the Iraqi people." At the end of the day, the Iraqi Health Ministry reports 13 dead and 60 wounded in Haifa Street.

The first journalists on the scene are casualties. A correspondent for Al-Arabiya TV of Palestinian origin, Mazen Toumeizi, is killed while two Iraqi reporters, one a Reuters cameraman and the other a photography for the Getty agency are wounded.

Incredibly, the wire services are reporting the US gunships are launching more missles on downtown Baghdad and that a city curfew has been imposed.

here's the BBC video link (Real Player needed): http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/video/40063000/rm/_40063230_iraq22_hawley12_vi.ram

Patrick Cockburn of the Independent has a story about this:

"I am a journalist. I'm dying, I'm dying," screamed Mazen al-Tumeizi, a correspondent for the Arabic television channel al-Arabiya, after shrapnel from a rocket fired by an American helicopter interrupted his live broadcast and slammed into his back.

http://news.independent.co.uk/world/middle_east/story.jsp?story=561021

ABC evening news showed a reporter talking in front of an incapacitated US armored vehicle with people swarmed around it; then an explosion with the camera flying to the ground; then, when the camera's picked up, you can see the reporter's blood on the lens.

Well, now we know why Bremer made one of the conditions of the "handover" of power that no US military personnel are to be subject to Iraqi law, as if the reason wasn't obvious from the very beginning.

Sally and all, I'm thinking the article posted at rense.com about the young woman from Hawaii being arrested in NYC during the convention may very well be bogus.

Something like that certainly would be covered in the Hawaii newspapers--I went to the Honolulu Advertiser, and the Star-Bulletin and did a search--nada! Then I googled "little Guantanamo" with words "Republican" and "convention". Also nada.

rense.com carries a disclaimer that they don't check out any stories, they just post what is sent to them.

If anybody can find a source for this story, please let me know. For me, the fact that it wasn't in either of the big Hawaiian newspapers is pretty telling.

Posted by: Barbara on September 13, 2004 10:08 PM

Sally, I read the article posted about the girl from Hawaii yesterday. It really is chilling and, I believe, a harbinger of things to come in the next few weeks. I hope it's only for the next few weeks and not beyond.

Another thing I came across this weekend were articles about how the Secret Service has morphed from being the protectors of the rPresident/veep to a kind of goon squad. Several instances were related about the Service removing hecklers at dimson's events forcibly (in one instance, the female heckler was pulled out of the room by her ponytail). In no instance was a heckler ever identified as violent or physically threatening. In each case, the heckler(s) was arrested and sent off to jail, later to be released.

It's very clear that this group plans to shut down dissent in every manner possible. God help us all if these people continue in their present positions. I think it's also something to consider during the aftermath of the elections. I believe these guys will try to retain power by force and chicanery, even if they are clearly and unequivocally voted out.

I think you're right. It sounded funny when I read it, and you can be sure that anything that blatant would not be missed in this most democratic of all cities!

Perhaps the "Secret Service" surrounding bushaunelected aren't really part of the Secret Service. If mercenaries/thugs can be hired to pretend to be USian military, mercenaries/thugs can be hired to pretend to be Secret Service staff. Perhaps a leak will be forthcoming from a Secret Service whistleblower. That'd be good. ;O)

Did you say/spell quagmire, Jo? Anyone remember Afganistan, the little country that brought down the Soviet Union after 10 years of Jihad? Ah, but the patriotic Americans say, that was with our help. We trained Osama, and gave weapons to the Northern Alliance, and now we have a minority rule in Kabul under Karzai. But our little superimposed government is not really Islamic. Big mistake there. Minority rule has never lasted in Kabul. The Taliban and Al Qaeda are nearly destroyed? I doubt it. The Bush Admin gave them a month to disband and disperse. Bush Admin thinks Pakistan is on our side? They think Muslims can be bought? The arrogance of some thinking a dead Bin Laden will be given for an October surprise; anyone ever notice how the Breaking News of a captured high Al Qaeda terrorist official usually breaks down to nothing?

All it takes is some empathy and understanding. Put yourself in the enemy's shoes/sandels, whatever.....Although for me personally, I can't consider them the enemy. I see more how they can percieve US as one, given all that US has done to them. The ultimate joke would be, if the US started doing it to themselves. A RW brownshirt should think of that before attacking a neighbor or neighbor's property.

Sorry, not saying much I guess, just had to rant here. I hate WAR, especially stupid ones, that could be resolved differently.

You're post about your stockbroker inspired my post. How do you spell Republican? S-U-C-K-E-R!! I keep thinking soon they'll get it! I thought they'd get it when the economy soared under Clinton. I thought they'd get it when things went to Hell under Bush. I thought they'd get it when Rush Limbaugh admitted to an addiction to pain-killers. I now wonder if they'll ever get it. They seem so unreasonable - but a lot of Repugs only watch Fox news - and Fox gives them an easy answer for everything.

Sometimes I get so mad at the Dems. I want to tell them - stop over-estimating the intelligence of the average citizen. Treat people like idiots like the Repugs do. Give them simple ideas in short sound bites. No complicated ideas they don't understand. But - of course - that is why the Democratic party is so great. They DON'T understimate us. They don't appeal to our baser instincts. And I think there are enough of us who do "get it" - that their methods will pay off.

better shape than Gore was at this stage in 2000
against the same shrub. Latest poll among rural voters, Kerry is at 37%,same as what Gore received
in 2000, but shrub is down by 7% than what he was.
Because 7 -8% are still undecided. Also Kerry is
ahead in all the states which Gore won. All in all
Kerry picture looks rosy but of course there is always room to improve and be not complacent. Also
shrub's worst days are ahead in second half of September and all October!

For those of you following the Vedic interpretations I thought it would help if I listed a few terms so you will know what they are talking about.

There are several divisional charts in Vedic astrology and it depends how the planets fall around those charts.

The Rasi and the Navamsa are the two most important charts, with the Rasi being the natal and the Navamsa relating to relationships and specifically marriage, however many Vedic astrologers say that the Navamsa chart and its condition (where planets fall) covers the second half of your life.

Beyond those two are the:
Drekana for Death and Longevity
Dwadasamsha for parents
Hora - character disposition
Trimsamsas are for female charts only
Septamsha Children's prosperity
Turyamsha - education
Dasamsha - profession
Shodasamsha - conveyances
Vimsamsha - happiness and success
Siddhamsha - higher education
Saptavimsamsha - strength and vitality
Then there are the Dasas/Bhukti (periods and sub-periods.

In terms of a GWB and Kerry in this instance a Vedic astrologer would look at the Rasi, Navamsa and the Dasamsha and how the planets all fall in those charts are they dibilitated or exhaulted do they rule good or bad houses and what are the transits to the planets, and they would then look at the Dasa/Bhukti and what period and sub period does it cover, there are vargas that tell you the strength and or weakness of each planet and each house.

The Dasa/Bhukti are sort of like progression in western Astrology.

Any way that might help you sort through some of the Vedic comments around the web.

Nope. That was me. Wasn't convention hype, but a highly placed Repub connect. I've already done articles about the fire at Cheney's posterior. Cheney will have to resign due to 1) Valerie Plame and/or 2) Halliburton trading with Iran during time of sanctions when he was CEO. He's got other problems as well. Was told the plan is to replace him with McCain, which makes sense given his liabilities and McCain's plusses.

Never said it would happen then. Just reported what I was told by my major insider connect. In fact, in a subsequent post, I outlined the strategy I think they'll use to make the change. It's not just metaphysical -- I used to have a political life in Texas years ago. And you can find the political me at http:blogs.salon.com/0001847 and the astrological me at http:blogs.salon.com/0003573. ABB!

RW,
Please don't misunderstand me, I believe he is a liability... and in the run-up to the convention I thought there was a possibility Cheney might be replaced... but the nominations came and went... so I assumed he would stay on the ticket. Then when 'Leonard' posted the blog, I looked at the date - 8/31/2004 and 'assumed' it was part of the pre-convention rumors.

So, are you saying that you understand through a connection that he definitely will be replaced before Nov. 2? Wonder why it didn't happen during the convention? Do you know? Is he refusing to go?

Sounds very interesting... inquiring minds want to know :-) Please, keep us posted won't you?

Posted by: Jo on September 14, 2004 12:57 AM

Jo, I hear from some journalists friends of mine in Washington that it is thought in October Cheney will be replaced by the wildly popular Mr. McCain and that will do Kerry/Edwards in, or so is thought the pundits.

Posted by: Sally on September 14, 2004 01:20 AM

The October Surprise, huh Sally? Well, our Veep is a Democrat, good looking, Southern and a Gemini... how's McCain going to do that in?

I've never been on the 'McCain Train' and don't understand it... John McCain is a Republican... a very Conservative Republican... a lone Paleo-Republican in a swamp of Neandercons... a poster boy... A poster boy for Veep and an empty puppet for Prez... some ticket... and until he goes to jail [LOL] Cheney will still be the man behind the curtain?????

What do you guys think? Whoa, one minute... by what mechanism do the Repugs accomplish this? Dubya just 'picks' McCain? A little late to get him on the ballot, isn't it? Write-in?

Well, here's something to chew on folks... have at it... little conversation here...

Posted by: Jo on September 14, 2004 01:43 AM

Jo makes a really good point about the mechanism with which they would get McCain on the ticket. Cheney has already been formally nominated and agreed upon, so how exactly would they get him off and McCain on? And I don't quite know how that would play with the public. Especially in light of Kerry/Edwards' astrology come October! It would be interesting to see how a Bush/McCain ticket might do astrologically, though.

Thank you, Nancy for an awesome article. Sometimes when my hope starts to fade, along comes one of your articles and restores my hope.

Looking back at these past 4 years; they have definitely been a roller-coaster ride of anger, frustration, seething thoughts of revenge, and later hope that we will be able to defeat this nightmarish administration.

I have recently returned from a wonderful vacation to Northern Sweden. It was so peaceful up there in the arctic tundra. The Sami people were such wonderful hosts.

Other Swedes from the north were very hospitable also, and they seemed to have none of the frustrations about BeelzeBush like we have here at home.

I tried to fill them in on the sordid details, but they just smiled and poured me another cup of coffee!

I think the message for me was to have more faith that things will work out, as long as I'm doing the right things.

This hellish administration is obviously a lesson in the works for many people here.

Regarding Causing Trouble for the Heck of it: I've been a member of the DU for over 1 year now. The 'Meeting Room' is my favorite place.

For long periods, we had many troublemakers who found it extremely fun to cause problems. They 'flamed' people, insulted us one and all, and in particular focused on astrology as an evil science, and they took it upon themselves to "enlighten" us, one and all.

Guess what? They're gone. We finally got rid of them. And furthermore, all the original posters are still there. So whatever they hoped to accomplish, it was a waste of clickety-clacking little fingers on the keyboard.

Cliss,

Was just speaking today to a friend of mine who lives in Stockholm and another friend who lives in Copenhagen, and they BOTH know about Bush and absolutely HATE him! It seems to be the opinion shared by most in Denmark and Sweden. They don't trust him and see right through the facade that we Americans can't seem to get past. Guess that's what you get for living in a Society that treasures speed and convenience over truth and depth.

Eureka! Great Kerry idea

Mon Sep 13th, 2004 at 21:19:00 GMT

(From the diaris -- kos)

I was just listening to the Al Franken show, and he touched on a point, but didn't make an interesting connection. Colin Powell told president Bush, "if you break it, you own it." And now president Bush is going around talking about having an "ownership society." That's a huge opening for Kerry:

"Mr. president, Colin Powell told you about this war that 'if you break it, you own it.' And now you're going around talking about an 'ownership society.' Well, Mr. President, let me tell you what you own. A million jobs lost. You own that. A thousand soldiers lost. You own that. 1.4 million new people living below the poverty line. You own that. 1.2 million less people covered by health insurance. You own that. A seventeen percent medicare increase. You own that. Health care costs skyrocketing. You own that. The tax burden increasing amongst the middle class. You own that. Mr. President, if you want to talk about an ownership society, let's talk about what you own."

Regarding the potential replacement of Cheney, I noticed that the George Bush campaign website mysteriously changed its url about seven months ago from bushcheney2004 to its current georgewbush.com. (Even now it will automatically redirect the user.) Contingency planning has probably been going on for a while. Also, if they do the switch after the convention. for "urgent" medical reasons, it may look more credible, and less calculated. (BTW, this is my first posting and I really enjoy the humanistic and metaphysical approach to politics here.)

I'm almost sorry I posted the link about the Cheney replacement theory--I really don't think it is going to happen. BUT if someone out there wants to check out John McCains's chart and see what sort of aspects he has coming up that might shed some additional moon light on the subject...

Posted by: Lawrence the LEO on September 14, 2004 03:46 AM

Jo, I followed up the story on my astrological blog a day later (Political Physics hadn't been offically launched yet) with my take on how they would do it strategically. And yes, it's due to "health problems." Personally, the Plame thing points to him to divert suspicion from Rove. And he is a liability to the ticekt, but can afford to be an attack dog until they decide McCain needs to be brought in as tag team player. Could even be after the election, to set up 2008. And yes, my namaskarams to you!

Posted by: RW on September 14, 2004 03:48 AM

Interestng you should suggest moon light shedding, Mr. Leo.....Sen. McCain has Saturn opposed to the Moon at the station starting this week. In my humble astrological opinion, that is an aspect that can represent emotional bummers like regret, depresion and uncertainty.

The good Senator's main whine has always been the conduct of the Iraq war and it is going very badly at the present time, which may make any closer association with the administration less than attractive to him......as it may become for many others over the next four or five weeks.

Actually I don't know how or if they can put another candidate on. Remember in Missouri in 2000 when McClendon (?) died and it was too late to take his name off the ticket. Don't know if that works for a President/Vice President in the same manner.

Lois Rodden has Kerry at 8:03 and they have that time as being confirmed by Kerry.

Posted by: Sally on September 14, 2004 04:09 AM

The good news about McCain is that his Moon is 26 Capricorn54 so I don't think he will be winning any elections with Saturn sitting opposite it. He also has Saturn at 20Pisces09, so Pluto will be square to that in October.

I have been thinking about the US progressed Mars which sits at 18Libra42 from 2004 through 2008 as it turns retrograde. In other words, it is stationary right now. To me, stationary means stuck. This leads me to wonder if this progressed Mars station indicates our stuckness militarily in Iraq. We can't move forward and we can't move back. I am getting to wish we would just leave, but then supposedly we create a terrorist haven. Would n't it be better to just have three countries there?

Posted by: Nancy on September 14, 2004 04:13 AM

Sally - My understanding about the 8:03 time is that is comes from a family friend. I don't know where the original 7:10 came from.

Posted by: Nancy on September 14, 2004 04:17 AM

Nancy, that was a very interesting remark you made and, upon reflecting uipon it, I believe that Smirky&Co have already created three countries in Iraq: Areas controlled by the locals, the Green Zone and the rest of Iraq (much of which will be joining the "Areas controlled by the locals").

First of all the Cheney thing:
I did some research and some of you will remember Sen. Thomas Eagleton, Democratic candidate for vice president in 1972 --- admitted to having rec'd mental health counseling and he was forced to resign from the ticket, one month after having been nominated by the party (imagine! Now we have an alcoholic who admitted to being drunk 'til he was about 40, and thereafter 'born again' --- so he's okay? move on Jo... rant later)

The Democratic National Committee replaced him with Sargent Shriver, and no state balked at printing Shriver's name on November ballots.
(ahh, the power of google!)

So, yes Sally, Jonathan, it seems there is a precedent for placing someone on the ballot, post-convention.

I've thought about the vacancy for existing office if Cheney were to 'resign due to health reasons' --- research on that shows:

The 25th Amendment provides that "Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress."

So, Dubya could appoint McCain to fill the vacancy between time of Cheney's resignation and Nov. 2 --- if, logistically there was time for a confirmation by both Houses. HR would rush it through with no problem on the majority (imho), but the Senate would be another thing... except of course Rove would have his minions slam the Demos for making the country vulnerable being without a VP!

Who knows? Maybe it all hinges on when the 'bulldog' (Fitzgerald that is) --- FBI makes their case on Plame or whatever is in the works comes down on Cheney... maybe they're waiting 'til after the election? Well, hey, news flash --- Kerry/Edwards is going to win... so replacing Cheney after Nov is moot...

Does Rove really think Cheney will fall on his sword to protect him?

Okay, I'm done thinking about this... Jonathan, Sally you got any thoughts? Anybody?

You're right it did come from a family member (ex sister in law) when he was married to his first wife and she confirmed it with Kerry. I guess I take the 8:03 because it comes from Rodden's site and has an A rating. Rectification can be so iffy and so often used to prove someone's theories, although the 7:10 is tempting.

Billy Bob based on their charts, and there are several but I take the one the parties themselves identify as their starting date because they both broke away from their historical roots and reformed. That makes May 21, 1832 Baltimore, MD for the Dems and 07.06.1854, Jackson, Michigan. Jupiter doesn't give the Republicans a jump start for awhile, and it trines the Gemini Dem Sun. Both parties have negative aspects to their charts but it's the Dems that have both positive and negative. And Election Day finds Venus in an exact trine/sextile to the Dems North Node.

I do remember Eagleton Jo, but that was just a month after their convention and the deadline for the States ballot registration hadn't been reached, those ballot deadlines have now been reached and that's my question. After the election the President can replace the VP with anyone they want, but it's the ticket change at this late date I'm just not sure about. Although my gut level feeling is you're right and Bush can replace him whenever he wants. Carnahan, that was the guy in Missouri, who died just a couple of weeks before the election.

There is a preponderance of Repugs out there with a 26/27 degree Cardinal including McCain.

I happened to do a phone reading this weekend for a member of parliament in London. He is a member of the Labour Party and he said people in England just cannot understand what's happened to the people in the US and why they cannot see through Bush because they are seeing through Blair, and want him out.

I guess I did accidentally see the site once, at dKos, it was during the Democratic Convention and Kos ran it to show how negative it was, juxtaposition the Kerry/Edwards site.... I scrolled through really fast though, I simply don't like the energy that man emits...

My impression is that Cheney is family and Rove is help. Also, we see all Cheney's warts but I don't think the GOP insiders have a clue how Cheney looks to others. The danger of putting out all those distortions and false-fronts is that they begin to believe their own propaganda.

When even Bush realizes that things are going badly for him someone is going to have to take the blame, and I think it will be Rove.

Stressful Barbara, could be kind of stressful, but you won't have the whole world watching your stress and that is a blessing. If you have a significant other there might be a little temper flair on the Mars square your Venus and on the other hand those fireworks can work just as well with hot passionate romance. (not the Saturn aspects, the Mars aspects)

Barbara, I almost forgot, Saturn also rules hard surfaces, careful of falls and get your teeth checked.

Tonight I received a call from the DNC making a pitch for more money. I said to the caller that I wasn't happy with Kerry's performance and he jumped right in to tell me that Bill Clinton had talked to Kerry and told him what he needed to do, it was a whole spiel and a practiced one. They've been getting complaints, and I expect lots of them. Hope the "Big Dog" feels up to talking to Kerry again.

Mahatma Gandhi on the current wars between tyrants and barbarians

By Robert Wilkinson

Mohandas Gandhi was one of the most remarkable beings in history. He unequivocally demonstrated that the way of applied Soul-force using non-violent techniques was so powerful that the British left India without firing a shot. This quote seemed relevant, given our present global bloodlust and increasingly polarized public dialogue.

“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible but in the end, they always fall -- think of it, ALWAYS.”

This is no idle dream, but practical politics from one of the shrewdest politicians in history.

OK.

Florida (where else?) is going to put Smirky and Snarly on their ballots, although the Repug convention meant their filing was p-a-s-t Florida's deadline.

Florida (where else?) is going to keep Nader on the ballot although a judge said they could not, since the hurricanes have created such havoc that it's simply impossible to do anything else.

Well, I'll swan and I do declare and I think if that don't beat all!

Mr. Mike,

You wrote that Ouida May and Guido were going to be on Montel. I had to haul out the smelling salts when I read that and I responded that I guessed that was better than being on Jerry Springer.

(Don't even think about bringing up Howard Stern!!!!!)

Where is Ouida May? She has not been in contact for days and days (as I also wrote earlier).

And now you write that Guido is "in retreath". Do you know where Ouida May is? I can't believe that I am having to launch a search for my spirit guide. Isn't it supposed to be the other way around? And what is a retreath anyway?

(BTW, Galen Rowell's photo of the Potala is even more breathless. And, did you know Frank Lloyd Wright had many photos of structures in his office, but only one of a building he did not design? And that was the Potala.)

NEW ASTROLOGY / POLITICAL BLOG:

http://astrotimes.blogspot.com/

Posted by: Lawrence the LEO on September 14, 2004 05:49 AM

Whoa Sally, that was a great comment you made about the people in England not being able to understand what happened to US......

Good question indeed.......my attempt to answer would have to start with the Republican party taking its lumps at the end of the Nixon years, then regrouping after Ford lost to start their next phase. From Nixon, they learned that denial is everything, and from Vietnam, they learned that wars should not be shown on TV because the public could lose the message in the carnage. (Seen any pictures of dead American soldiers in our American press anywhere in the last 4 years?)

Carter was the first "victim" of the lessons they learned, and they used their hard learned media lessions and connections to portray him as "weak" and "ineffective".

Then, it was Reagan, the "acting" President, who showed them how to "work the crowd". RR was dubbed the "great communicator", but what he really showed the Repubs was how to control perceptions and get away with murder---which helped him earn his nickname, the "Teflon President". His greatest triumph/lesson? Charisma , in the age of television, was far more important than accountability or issues.

[Really, Reagan/B*sh was the archetype for W./Cheney, because RR was only a figurehead(perhaps the ultimate) while 41 ran the country behind the scenes. Some would say 41 is still in charge!!!]

And fast forward through the Clinton years, when new Repub "icons" like the Newt and Lott touted their "Contract With(On!) America" but were unable to deliver anything of substance, although they tried (though their control of the media and obvious double standards)to bring down perhaps the best president of the last 40 years. (Perhaps a more critical media would have exposed the skeletons in the accusers' closets and potentially ended the whole sordid Lewinsky affair before it became an "issue"?)

The Newt-era vitriol/vindictiveness continued the "dumbing down" of political discourse to WWE level and the deregulation of the media under 43(antitrust suits, anyone?) allowed unlimited ownership(and therefore consolidation/control), bringing us to the present day---where there is no real dissent,no real information or expression of alternative viewpoints unless you have access to the internet.
And, since the media reads the notes you give them, anythng you don't want to come out won't be reported, so they think.

It's been a long slow process, but they've mostly achieved their goals..........the only thing is, I think they've underestimated the American people, and I predict the backlash will blow up in their faces in November......

that's my viewpoint of the last 30 or so years, anyway......maybe one of the super astrologers here could do an article/timeline showing the astrological "how and why" of what happened between the RNC and the media over the last 30 years?

I LOVE THIS SITE!!! March on, truth warriors--"The Truth Shall Set You Free!"

peace, white light for Cuba and Florida, and a Kerry/Edwards victory for all.....

Another factor in the Uranus, Neptune configuration...the value of the internet...
"alternative information source and outlet"

Let us march on!

Posted by: teresa b on September 14, 2004 06:23 AM

Why can't they (Dems) get their act together? Smirky&Co. have created disasters all over the planet (climate change = Ivan, for example; Iraq = death death and death, for example; Afghanistan = "Oh, sorry about picking up and leaving so early, but we gotta go invade Iraq," and then, Iran and then . . ." for example; depleted uranium = mega problems for our troops and the Iraqi people, but that's just a by-product of this crusade; air in NYC was declared safe to breath after 9/11 by the feds = major health problems for all the rescuers (including dogs) within a short time; and on and on.

People on various internet (thanks, Al) sites are offering all kinds of suggestions for Kerry to say. Why can't the Kerry campaign articulate something that matters, piques interest and goes to the heart of our collective (our treasury is exhausted and we are now living under tremendous debt)? What is wrong? Can they get it right? Are there any astrological configurations associated with this embarrassing failure of the Kerry campaign to find a voice, to communicate clearly and cogently with the American people?

Man, I miss Howard Dean!

Posted by: shylurker on September 14, 2004 06:24 AM

Yes shy, I just told you. The U/N mutual reception. No matter what Kerry says, it will be confused....not his fault.

Posted by: tersa b on September 14, 2004 06:38 AM

Shylurker, in one of my recent articles I specifically said Aug and Sept would be very hard on Kerry/Edwards but October would be hard on Bush when Sun and Mars slip into Libra, and Saturn conj. his Saturn and opposes the US Pluto. I have never thought Kerry had what it took to win, but Bush has what it takes to lose. Something is about to blow for him. There is more coming out about torture all over the US detainee prisons. Like WV's article today the Pentagon is trying to shut up Sy Hersh and his new book.

I do so understand the discouragement, I just don't understand why Kerry isn't more forceful (I didn't understand that in Gore) I don't understand why they don't let Edwards go and make big waves. Too many people trying to make Kerry over into Clinton, including Clinton and Kerry is not Clinton and never will be. Kerry has so much coming at him and so many people and with Mars squaring his Sag and Gemini, I think he himself is about to blow, and this new moon has the Sun/Moon/Mars all square Kerry's Saturn, very explosive combination and why I have had questions whether Kerry makes it to Oct. 10th as a candidate.

This New Moon is going to be tough on the US too as it will conjunct the US Neptune and square Mars, that's a prescription for an early flu season, or Ivan being worse than thought, maybe he doesn't lose steam coming to the US shores. Another possibility is more oil wells blown up in Iraq, more violence, serious violence due to this New Moon configuration aspecting Iraq's planets.

This is the bad news but before the Bush team starts celebrating they might want to know that the Sun and Mars are coming to their neighborhood soon and to the US.

Speaking of commenters, I've noticed some coming, advertizing their own sites, and inviting those visiting Astroworld to go on over to their sites. It seem odd to me. I took a look and they are very interesting sites indeed, but wouldn't it be a tad more appropriate to ask to be a link on Astroworld, or perhaps to offer to write an article for Astroworld rather than what has been said? It just seems ......odd.

Thank you for last post Sally. Although I have not been able to locate it, I believe you said in either an article or a post recently that perhaps having Bush win in Nov. might not be the worst possible thing after all. Bill Maher agrees with you........says everything will be such a mess by Nov. that it might be best for the Repugs to have to clean up their own messes for once. Just remembering what they did to Clinton, and what they would surely do to Kerry, I wonder if there might not be some merit in that thought. Analogise to stock charting: a market always has to make a definitive bottom before it can rise, lower lows can only reverse to little bullish blips before the nadir has really been reached for that cycle. I cannot imagine the power boys backing off and letting Kerry govern.

Posted by: teresa on September 14, 2004 07:07 AM

Shylurker, I just cannot imagine the awful things going on in your community, I can't think of anything to say but 'what pigs'

Economically the US always does badly in Oct. and April when the Sun Ingresses into Libra and Aries because they square all the Cancer in the US. This year Jupiter will also be in Libra, not there since 1992 when Clinton beat Bush at the last minute on the economy. This year Jupiter is almost in the same place as 1992 and Mars will be squaring its 1992 place when it was in Cancer, and this year we have Saturn opposing Pluto in the 2nd house. Bush will be blamed for the economy, even if he isn't to blame, we just have to hope Kerry can take advantage of it, or knows how to take advantage of it.

Meanwhile the Libra ingress favors Kerry. In astrology one looks at the upcoming events in the abstract and are usually as surprised or disgusted as everyone else when they start to unfold. I knew Kerry would have problems over these last two months and even though I was right about it, I am sickened watching it all unfold. I am counting on being right about the end of September into October as well, and will be happy and excited when it happens.

Posted by: Sally on September 14, 2004 07:12 AM

And Kerry, more than anything in the universe, wants to exercise his power.

Posted by: teresa b on September 14, 2004 07:12 AM

Teresa, Smirky&Co. are not only misleading them, they are cheneying them big time. I'm just flummoxed that, with so many things being wrong, the Kerry people can't come up with statements that will resonate with the public. And now all those old Clinton people are in there, you know, politics as usual and the Dems should be "Bush Lite" and . . .

Enough! Arrgh! Gotta go to dreamland.

(BTW, where is Dommael? He used to admonish me to go to my happy place when I'd get all worked up like this.)

Posted by: Pat C on September 14, 2004 07:23 AM

I think it may be short sighted of Maer (sp?) to suggest that the Republicans would be forced to clean up their mess. Given more time in office I dougt any of us would recognize this country, and it is a strong probability that there would not be elections after that. I do know they hope to disolve the Democratic Party.

Not a pretty picture, and there would be no choice.

Lastly, for now... if you go over to the Kerry website you will discover that he is, in fact,

Mark Shields, nationally known columnist and commentator, is the moderator of CNN's "The Capital Gang." Here's what he has to say about the race.

---------

Kerry over? Not.

WASHINGTON (Creators Syndicate)
Back before becoming a syndicated wise guy, I was lucky enough to work in political campaigns, including three presidential races, where you can learn an awful lot in a large hurry about human nature.

When the candidate for whom you're working becomes the favorite to win and leads in the polls, imperfect strangers overnight discover that your own jokes are hilarious and your offhand comments are profound.

But when your candidate stumbles and develops the scent of a loser, even other politicians who had once been clamoring to appear on any platform with your guy suddenly remember unbreakable scheduling conflicts, such as a nephew graduating from driving school or an appointment with the family taxidermist.

This is by way of saying I have at least some idea about what Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry is now going through.

Many of his recently acquired (when the polls were better) "best friends" now disloyally seek out reporters to bad-mouth the latest speech, strategy or hire. Democrats panic. The same press that fulsomely praised the boldness and discipline of your winning primary campaign now find a top-heavy staff rife with internal stress. So I have some advice for Kerry:

Take a deep breath.

Ignore the polls. Voters care whether their jobs will be there, whether there will be good jobs for their children, whether they will be able to afford health care.

Their votes are not influenced by polls. If they were, candidates George McGovern and Barry Goldwater, who both trailed by two-to-one throughout the fall, would not have won two out of five votes each on Election Day.

Ronald Reagan's pollster and advisor Dr. Richard Wirthlin once told me that during the 1984 re-election campaign, when the Gipper carried 49 states, his Democratic opponent Walter Mondale had led Reagan on only two nights of polling -- both during the Democratic convention when Geraldine Ferraro was nominated for vice president. Defense rests.

Understand your opponents. Von Clausewitz once observed, "War is nothing but the continuation of politics by other means." Under Karl Rove, the Bush-Cheney folks have made politics the continuation of war by other means.

The War on Americans' minds in the fall of 2004 is Iraq, not Vietnam.

It is irrefutable fact that you bravely volunteered to fight in combat and bravely came come home to oppose what Colin Powell called "a war so poorly conceived, conducted and explained by (the) country's leaders. ... You do not squander courage and lives without clear purpose, without the country's backing and without full commitment."

In fact, it could be said that you did everything you could to stop that war so that others, such as George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, Tom Delay and John Ashcroft would not have to fight it.

Yes, Republican partisans have made much of the fact that while your boat-mates strongly affirm your leadership and courage under fire, one man from your crew strenuously opposes your candidacy.

But nobody can be found who ever served with George W. Bush, who even his critics would concede is a colorful and memorable personality not easily forgotten.

In politics and life, you can say important things in a very few words -- from Abraham Lincoln's "as I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master," and FDR's "The only thing we have to fear is fear, itself," and Ike's 1952 promise of "I'll go to Korea," to every man or woman's "Will you marry me?"

On Iraq, knowing what we now know, the following can be confidently said: "With no Iraqi involvement in 9/11 and with Iraq possessing no chemical, biological or nuclear weapons and constituting no serious threat to the United States or to its own neighbors, there simply never would have been either a House or Senate vote.

Invading and occupying Iraq after 9/11 made about as much sense as if after Pearl Harbor, the United States had bombed Brazil. Either negligently or consciously, Mr. Bush led the United States into an unnecessary and unjustified war against Iraq."

In baseball and politics, you can only score when you're on offense. Consider this: The Republican Medicare prescription drug bill that Bush proudly signed prohibits the U.S. government from using the purchasing power of 41 million Medicare beneficiaries to negotiate with drug companies to lower the price of drugs, something the Veterans Administration is free to do.

One difference: A month's supply of Pravachol ,a popular cholesterol-regulating drug, costs the VA $19.80 -- and at the drug store, a customer would pay $116.75 for the same dosage.

Forbidding the public sector to negotiate with the pharmaceutical companies, it is estimated, will mean $139 billion in windfall profits for the drug industry.

Voters care much more about the price of prescription drugs for Grams and Gramps than they do about who saw Saigon.

From Jeff Hauser:

http://seetheforest.blogspot.com/2004_09_01_seetheforest_archive.html#109510272350016808

Remember the Sandy Berger smear? This was the story claiming that President Clinton's National Security Advisor had smuggled incriminating documents out of the National Archives. (Berger was completely cleared.) This was a planned smear - in the works for months - and was used by the Republicans to make the public think that Clinton was responsible for letting the 9/11 attack happen and that "the Democrats" were engaged in a conspiracy to cover up the evidence.

Well, along similar lines, and listening to Limbaugh just now, I can see that the Right's "Bush Guard memo forgery" is taking shape. The entire Wurlitzer - the Right's media echo chamber that is able to repeat a lie over and over and over until it is the ONLY story in the news - is cranked up and telling the public that CBS has been caught engaging in a smear against Bush using forged documents. Never mind that the document (one document, no plural 's') in question is legit.

According to Limbaugh:

One document is said to look like it could have been typed on a modern computer.

Therefore ALL such documents are forgeries.

Therefore CBS is intentionally working a smear on Bush.

Therefore ANY stories about Bush's National Guard service are not to be believed - he served honorably.

Therefore this proves that CBS (and by extension, ALL mainstream media) is a tool of the "Liberal Elite" and is working hand-in-hand with the Kerry campaign to smear Bush.

Again, by extension, ANY stories ANYWHERE, EVER about Bush doing ANYTHING bad are Liberal lies.
Keep in mind that this is not just Limbaugh. In a NY Times Op-Ed this morning William Safire has a piece titled "Those Discredited Memos" (note that he uses the plural...) And it doesn't stop there. It hardly even STARTS there. Today a Google News search for "Bush documents CBS" locates 2,460 stories. (According to reporting from Salon, a Republican PR firm that is also involved with the Swift Boat smear is engaged in driving this story.)

This also has all the earmarks of typical right-wing smear tactics. It starts with a small, unproven accusation. The Right's Wurlitzer picks up the accusation and amplifies it until pretty much everything else is deflected out of the news. Soon every story on the subject assumes the truth of the original accusation. As soon as each new accusation is refuted - a refutation never even mentioned in the Right's stories - new accusations emerge, leaving the original accusation and refutations behind. Within days the accusations are escalating so fast that no one can keep up - by the time one accusation is addressed two or three more appear, which creates a fog that is impossible to cut through. The cumulative accusations -- all assumed to be true in the stories put out by the Right media -- become a general attack on "Liberals" or "Democrats" in general. The entire episode "proves" that the public should dismiss ANY story from the "mainstream" press or any authority figure that previously might be thought of as "responsible."

And so it goes. Watch your backs!

Great article, Nancy. Would you, Sally or any of the other astrologers here comment on what the debates look like astrologically? I believe the first one is scheduled for September 30, just two weeks away. I know this occurs after Saturn finally conjuncts Bush's natal Saturn on September 24, so I wonder if he'll be feeling the full effects of the Saturn return at that point. Also, what does Kerry's chart look like for that evening?

http://salon.com/books/int/2004/09/14/kelley/print.html

Don't mess with the Bushes
In her new book, Kitty Kelley shows how the first family intimidates those who've tried to expose the clan's dark secrets of drugs, drinking, womanizing and nepotism. Now they're coming after her.

??Sept. 14, 2004  |  After weeks of bracing by the Bush White House, the Category 5 storm has hit: Hurricane Kitty. Bestselling author Kitty Kelley's withering portrait of the Bush dynasty, "The Family," is landing in bookstores on Tuesday -- more than 720,000 copies of it. And the White House is already on high alert. "This book is fiction and deserves to be treated as such," snarled Republican spokeswoman Christine Iverson, as the RNC fired off an anti-Kelley talking-points memo to friendly media assets. The media blowback against Kelley, author of controversial biographies of Nancy Reagan and Frank Sinatra, has already begun. On the Monday morning "Today Show," host Matt Lauer showed how tough an interviewer he can be when not questioning presidents and other potentates, pressing Kelley on who she's going to vote for in November ("Who're you voting for?" Kelley shot back) and the timing of the book's publication, weeks before the November election ("Why not? It's relevant," countered the author, who's been working on the book for four years).

The hottest dispute sparked by the book involves the allegation that George W. Bush, who claimed to be clean and sober at the time, snorted cocaine with one of his brothers at the Camp David presidential retreat when his father was president. One of Kelley's sources -- and the only one on the record -- was Sharon Bush, the deeply aggrieved ex-wife of W.'s younger brother Neil. She is now in strong denial mode, even though her own publicist, who was present at a lunch where she told Kelley the story, confirms the accuracy of Kelley's account. Nonetheless, Lauer produced the Bush divorcee after his interview with Kelley to repeat her denials.

While the Camp David coke party is getting the headlines, Kelley's book is filled with many other tawdry stories about the Bush dynasty. Here is a family that looks "like 'The Donna Reed Show,' and then you see it's 'The Sopranos,'" Kelley tells Salon in the interview below. As Kelley tells it, the dynasty had respectable origins -- in the form of family patriarch Prescott Bush, the distinguished, moderate Republican senator from Connecticut -- but rapidly slid into cynical opportunism, skulduggery, and a mean-spirited sense of entitlement. The first President Bush is presented as a weak yes man, driven not by political vision but a savage preppy spirit of competition instilled in him by his whirlwind of a mother. But it is his wife, Barbara (whom the ex-wife of White House counsel C. Boyden Gray calls "bull-dyke tough"), and their eldest son, George, who are the true pieces of work in Kelley's book, a mother and son team brimming with such spite and ambition they would give the ruthless duo in "The Manchurian Candidate" the shivers. In one of the creepier passages of the book, a family gathering from hell at Kennebunkport, Maine, Barbara is shown mercilessly baiting her dry-drunk son, then governor of Texas, as a teetotaling "Chosen One," while he keeps pleading to skip the cocktails and put on the feed bag, and his elderly father "drools over [TV newswoman] Paula Zahn's legs."

One of the major themes in Kelley's book is the family's weakness for liquor and drugs. Alcoholism, she writes, runs deeply in the family and among its victims, according to one Bush family friend, was Prescott, a "major-league alcoholic," who was in the habit of checking himself into his men's club and country club to go on benders. And Kelley writes that George W. Bush is not the only one in the first family who enjoyed illegal substances. While a student at Southern Methodist University in the 1960s, first lady Laura Bush was known "as a go-to girl for dime bags of marijuana."

But, as one of W.'s Yalie frat brothers tells Kelley, it's not the substance abuse in Bush's past that's disturbing, it's the "lack of substance ... Georgie, as we called him, had absolutely no intellectual curiosity about anything. He wasn't interested in ideas or in books or causes. He didn't travel; he didn't read the newspapers; he didn't watch the news; he didn't even go to the movies. How anyone got out of Yale without developing some interest in the world besides booze and sports stuns me." New Yorker writer Brendan Gill recalls roaming the Kennebunkport compound one night while staying there looking for a book to read -- the only title he could find was "The Fart Book."

1. Coral Gables, FL

2. St. Louis, Missouri

The site says that all three debates will begin at 9:00 p.m. Eastern.

JAMES CARROLL
America's Jewish founding father

By James Carroll, Globe Columnist | September 14, 2004

THREE HUNDRED fifty years ago, Jews came to America. Beginning today, observances in New York mark the arrival in "New Amsterdam" of 23 Iberian Jews in the year 1654. Noting the milestone in The New York Times last week, Jeremy Eichler celebrated "a tale of the passage from the periphery to the center, from immigrant yearning to mainstream achievement."

The Jewish story in America is usually told that way. An alien people comes to an already established national culture, does very well by transforming and inventing aspects of it, from show business and movies to intellectual life and literature. Jews are honored by this story -- their creativity and diligence enable them to "break in" -- and so is America -- the open society where outsiders are welcome.

But the most basic assumption of that "tale" is that, by the time Jews arrived, America was an already flowing "mainstream," marked by democracy, freedom, openness. The story as usually told does not credit Jews or the Jewish tradition, that is, with having centrally contributed to the invention of the national idea in the first place.

I write from outside the Jewish experience, but what strikes me about that time when Jews first came to "New Amsterdam" is how much the nascent American imagination was preparing to draw on the vital culture of the rabbis, going back centuries. The incubator for the new idea at that moment was, in fact, old Amsterdam, in Holland, where the great foreshadowing of what came to be called liberal democracy was embodied in a Jew.

Benedict Spinoza (1632-77) was a bridge figure between the religious tradition of Rabbinic Judaism and the philosophy of the Enlightenment. In his political writings, one sees, for example, the clear influence of Lurianic Kabbalah, an established Jewish spirituality. It is a small step from the idea that "emanations" of God inhabit the souls of all humans, to the idea that each person, taken individually, is as worthy as every other. That idea is the kernel of democracy. Political tolerance -- what we would call pluralism -- is rooted in this positive attribute.

But Spinoza also saw up close the dark effects of the religious wars then wracking Europe, and so there was a negative source to his call for political tolerance as well. Spinoza was himself expelled from the Synagogue (1656), investigated by the Catholic Inquisition (1659), and banned by the Calvinist Synod (1670). This experience of omnidirectional religious intolerance underwrote his two-fold new idea -- that the state's first obligation is to protect the freedom of conscience of each citizen; to do so the state must not itself be religiously identified. The separation of church and state begins here.

Spinoza is famous for proposing that all things be seen "sub specie aeternitatis," from the point of view of eternity. Nothing bound by time is absolute, which means no human institution is above criticism. Spinoza's political writing, especially his "Theologico-Political Treatise," imagines, therefore, social structures organized to support mutually critical give-and-take.

Here is the seed of a constitutional polity, based on checks and balances. Spinoza did not exempt even the institutions of religion from this spirit of criticism -- which is why he was as suspect in his own Jewish community as he was denounced by Protestants and Catholics. To some, Spinoza was an irreverent atheist, to others, a mindless pantheist, seeing God everywhere.

The point for us is that his fundamental (and, as this Christian sees it, fundamentally Jewish) idea that human beings participate in the divine, but are not themselves divine (Only God is God), spawns a political ideal of human rights, on one hand, and of limited government on the other.

Amsterdam in Spinoza's day was alive with intellectual and political ferment: Dutch Calvinists struggling with republicanism, "Puritan" nonconformists in flight from England, scarred veterans of religious wars, merchants and explorers looking west. John Locke, for one, would be immersed in these revolutionary currents, bringing their articulation to a next level, the place at which the American idea first becomes conscious of itself.

But the author of what might be called the first draft of that idea, drawing on the positive riches of his own tradition, as well as reacting to the intolerance of which his people knew more than anyone, was Benedict Spinoza. When 23 Jews arrived in New Amsterdam in September of 1654, he was 22 years old. They and he together were just beginning, as was the great nation they then helped invent.

James Carroll's column appears regularly in the Globe. His most recent book is "Crusade: Chronicles of an Unjust War."

There is a truly terrifying thread going on over at DU right now. The title is "Scoop; Draft Alert" and has to do with decisions already made re: reinstating the draft. The issue paper was obtained from the Freedom of Information Act. But this is a draft as we have never known for it is not just the combat draft that used to involve young men. This draft would include all men and women 18-34. Yes it includes a combat draft but it also includes a service draft where young men and women would become a labor pool to be used at the whim of the government. A huge data base would be assembled and every bit of information about ort young would be included. They would be required, under law, to report all and any skills, great or small, that could be used as a pretext for government service. The implications are overwhelming. It is also stated in the thread that *ush's October surprise could be attacking Iran. I urge you all, go to DU, read the info and then spread the word, especially to college kids. The link is below.

Dear Nancy, I really hope that Kerry's time of birth is 8:03 and I don't. Transiting Jupiter conjuncts that times Mc on Oct 21. Also, Jupiter will // the Mc on Nov 3. This is success as far as I am concerned. My only worry, as I have stated here earlier this year, is the transiting midpoint Mars/Neptune will conjunct Kerry's Sun degree election night. Will Neptune conj Mc natal have Kerry capitulate too early as Carter did in 1980?
I hope not. Bill Marshall

Thanks, Sally, for your kind comments re transiting Saturn conj my natal Pluto opp natal Moon. I looked to see when this happened last, and it was Aug. 1975--that was when I started every morning feeding the puppies that we thought our dog had been too young to have, visited my mother-in-law to do the bandage changing required by recent surgery and to make her breakfast and lunch, drove to the north part of town to leave my daughter off at day care, and then took the interstate south for 45 miles to start work. After work the whole thing reversed. (Pluto in Cancer in the 3rd, Moon in Cap in the 9th.) Meanwhile, the city was sending me letters demanding that my old house, which I had bought one year previously, be completely restored and repaired at once--although they hadn't bothered the previous owner while he let it decay for a decade. Heigh ho! It wasn't a whole lot of fun but it wasn't the worst time of my life by any means.

I am wondering if summer 1975 was when McCain was in prison camp.

Last night late at night while I was working on this big project I am working on, I was listening to PBS station from San Jose, (can't watch tv, I have to just listen while working) and it was a Frontline hosted by Bill Moyers....on the past history of terrorists attacks starting with the Jimmy Carter years ....they interviewed Caspar Weinberger (it is hard for me to get the picture of him as a younger man having his daughter's friends over to the house for a birthday party....weird), Bob Woodward, several generals, the pilot of the plane hijacked for 17 days, George Shultz...and it seems to me that it was the infighting between the cautious Weinberger and the intemperate and pro war Shultz that caused the lack of response during the Reagan administration which set up the terrorists total confidence in these kind of attacks. Reagan was absolutely obcessed with terrorists....but everything they (Powell was in the mix too) came up with was too "weak"....it sent a message that the USA was weak and not powerful. It seemed to me while watching this that it is the Republican administrations of the past which have caused the current terrorists regimes to prosper, not democrats....and all those terrorists attacks starting 25 years ago knocked out all of the intelligence operations in the region, and they never were replaced....which gave rise to the CIA black ops operations under William Casey. THis is the chickens coming home to roost, as Malcom X used to say.

So GWB*sh apparently went in and did exactly what the Weinberger/Scowcroft group said not to do....but he WAS decisive....just not intelligent. And the same people in the earlier events are now the major players....

I also heard a B*sh speech on Lehr hour.....there is definitely something wrong with that man....as the Yalies said, there is something wrong with a man who goes thru Yale and comes out only interested in booze and drugs....well, there is something wrong with him ....listen to his voice and the tone....this guy is overwhelmed, lying, and his schtick is not working....those health aspects, Sally?

Well well, went to vote in the WA primary this morning and had to declare my party before I could vote. [Supposidly that doesn't happen in November election.] Then the machine wouldn't take anyone's form and we had to seal them into an offical envelope where I kept the tab. The workers there said that someone would come and fix the scanner. In the last 4 years it never had any problems grabbing the card and keeping it. Guess I'm paranoid that the democrates' cards will get forgotten, lost, damaged etc before they are counted. [My town is very progressive so I find it all very suspecious.]

Nancy, sorry - wow, these posts fill up fast! I will try to find the source of the 7:10 birth time and will post it.

SuzieLiberal, I am so down with not wanting to be in the company of Republicans, even in my own family. The ignorance is just too overwhelmingly frustrating. Not to mention the denial and all that predictable "triangulating." Pathetic. The facts stand, and they just can't deal with it. It's sickening. I'm making "other plans" for the holidays. Not up for the annual "forced intimacy" with people I would otherwise not even talk to.

Kerry will steamroll the ChimpBoy in October and the truth WILL come out and we WILL prevail. No more doubts! I just worry for Kerry that these unbelievable reptiles will pull out all the stops when he's elected and he will have a rough time. Bullies are so sad.

Hi all from the unfriendly confines of southern Utah!
I just put my Kerry/Edwards bumper sticker on my truck. No incidents yet.
Just a thought. If facism is truly a possibility, maybe the potential civil unrest/war that so many speak about the Repugs acting out over losing could be something else? Like, perhaps, Democrats and like-minded individuals reacting to another Bush/Cheney election theft? Perhaps the assault weapons ban fading into obscurity isn't such a bad thing, considering what facist rule could mean to the citizenry. Being surrounded as I am by Bush country here in Utah, I sure would like to be able to defend myself!

Lucy, I do so hope the 7:10 source for Kerry is not as good as the Lois Rodden source because if it is 7:10 Kerry's chances for election plummet. That places his Saturn in a square to his mid-heaven and Jupiter just went over that point without any bounce for Kerry what so ever. TSaturn just sextiled the 21 Virgo mid-heaven on the 7:10 chart which should have increased his opportunities and it didn't. Unfortunately the 7:10 am chart for Kerry would mean a less likely chance of being elected. We will know if Kerry gets a bounce from the 8:03 midheaven which is Libra and Jupiter is going to go over that.

That's a very good point Barbara makes. And in stump speech after stump speech, Kerry is speaking directly with and to these people. Many of whom, I'm assuming, are not seeing Bush speak live due to their understandable reluctance to sign that Promise Pledge thing. These people need jobs and not promises, and that's all Bush has been willing to give them these past four years. The economy "turning the corner" doesn't get the bills paid or food on the table.

They have put up f'ing billboards. Was just driving home on I-94 in lower MI. I saw three of them. One says, "Boots or Flip Flops" Bush-Cheney 04.

The big corporate fascists are in full swing. Lawn signs I don't mind, expresses peoples' individuality. But big ass billboards on a freeway? Is this where the age of Aquarius is taking us? Into the land of big brother? Btw, I'll take flip flops over boots anyday. "Boots" is too close to little boots/Caligula, marching, marching, marching off to war.........

Also just finished the Kitty Kelley interview over on Salon.com. Like the DU says, BFEE, Bush Family Evil Empire. If the Kerry plane crashes, we will know who is behind it. Bush decided to take a walk the other day after waking up from his afternoon nap, so he and his Secret Service detail took a stroll down the streets of D.C. They came across a little girl on the sidewalk carrying a box in her arms. After cordoning off a ten-block radius and questioning the girl about her family's voting history, the SS discovered the box contained only newborn kittens. "What kind of kittens are those?" asked Bush. "These are Republican Kittens, Mr. President," said the little girl. Bush was beside himself with pleasure, patted the girl on the head, reminded her that a vote for Kerry was a vote for the terrorists and walked back to the White House.

A few weeks later, after receiving his daily briefing on how the Kerry smear campaign was progressing, Bush decided to take Cheney and Rove for a walk to show them the kittens. They walked down the road and found the same girl in the same place, still with her box of kittens. Cheney was about to eat one when George stopped him and told him he had to wait and hear the best part. "What kind of kittens are those, little girl?" he asked. "These are Democrat Kittens, Mr. President," said the girl. All three men gasped in astonishment. "Weren't they Republican Kittens a few weeks ago?" asked Bush.

"Yes, but now they've opened their eyes."

Thanks, Jo.

I read on an earlier thread that McCain had natal Moon opp natal Pluto and was just wondering how that impacted his imprisonment dates.

I've been checking out past returns and found out that for me at least, transiting Saturn conj natal Pluto is nothing compared to a Saturn return.

My natal Saturn is conj natal Mars (oh boy). At my first Saturn return age 29, I was widowed, moved to a new home, totally new life, etc. At second return I again lost a residence, moved, started totally new life. I'm thinking that was probably the last one.

At the every 2 or so year Mars transits I am now very careful not to drive, etc. for the week or few days they are in force. (Finally learning from experience.)

My natal Saturn is in Libra in the 10th house. My first Saturn return was wonderful, I managed to get a very sought-after job with the new (at the time) Hartsfield Intl Airport as a computer supervisor and was on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and the money (at the time) kept my family very nicely (I had 7 children - four of them step-children). Now, at 53, I'm thinking my next Saturn return will be just as nice. Saturn, actually, has been extremely kind to me. Saturn is exalted in Libra and happy in the 10th house.

Bush's Saturn is in the 12th and in Cancer. Not good. Not good in Cancer, not good in 12th. His first Saturn return was NOT a good time for him, nor will this one be. Think about it. This one will hit him like a ton of bricks.

Kerry will win this election.

Laurie,
Share please... I don't know what was going on for Dubya his first Saturn return (1980/81?)... you say it was not a good time... what was he doing? He had lost a bid for elected office in 1977? I believe, what about later?

LUCY what a laugh you gave me "making playdough bunnies in the corner." That was delicious. Vedic and Western astrology are different in as much as they use whole sign astrology. In the 8:03 chart Kerry's Sag. asc becomes Scorpio as well as the 7:10 time. They wouldn't do transits in the same way we do them, so I think they are probably looking at the Dasa/Bhukti (the period and sub-period) which does depend on birth time. And I expect that's why they rectified his chart. However within the dasa/bhukti periods there are further refinements of a period that not all vedic astrologers use, but would explain a bad few weeks within a good period or the converse would be true. That's why I am sticking with Lois Rodden, her credibility is far higher with me than someone's rectified chart. Have I just completely confused.

Bill Marshall - That is very good news about the // of Jupiter to Kerry's MC on November 3!! I used to use parallels all the time. I even wrote an article on them back in circa 1975. But my current ephemeris (Michelson) and the sites I use don't give the declination information. Would you be so kind as to let me know if there are any other //s or contra//s in either Kerry's or Bush's natal charts for the election and for the Inauguration? Many thanks!!

Posted by: Nancy on September 15, 2004 01:49 AM

I need to be enlightened....what are parallels and contraparallels and how do they work?

Posted by: Dommael on September 15, 2004 02:25 AM

Mark/Utah - I had the same thought about Kerry losing and we riot instead of the bushies. You could read that last month of Mars Pluto either way. I just didn't have the heart to put it into my article.

It is also possible that they continue counting absentee ballots for a few days after the election before a winner is declared, basically until Uranus goes direct around the 10th. But Bushie gets no break from Saturn throughout, so we should be OK.

DOOM OF EXILES

Now we, returning from the vaulted dome
Of our colossal sleep, come home to find
A tall metropolis of catacombs
Erected down the gangways of our mind.

Green alleys where we reveled have become
The infernal haunt of demon dangers;
Both seraph song and violins are dumb;
Each clock tick consecrates the death of strangers.

Backward we traveled to reclaim the day
Before we fell, like Icarus, undone;
All we find are altars in decay
And profane words scrawled black across the sun.

Teresa - The degrees for the zodiac that we normally use are based on longitude (movement east to west on the ecliptic). The declination positions are a measurement of the planets latitude, how far north or south of the ecliptic they go. Essentially, they can only go up to 23 degrees north or south latitude. If two planets are in the same latitude, they are said to be parallel. If one is in, for instance, 10 north latitude and the other is 10 south latitiude, they are said to be contraparallel. The parallel is supposed to be like a conjunction and the contraparallel like an opposition. I don't think they are as strong as those aspects, but are similar in nature. You never give more than a one degree orb for these aspects, if that.

Many thanks for the link to James Fallows article in the Atlantic. It is one of the single best articles I've read in a month. And I am very reassured that my original perceptions of John Kerry were in fact correct. I have always thought him a highly intelligent man with true passions for justice and the betterment of mankind. Very much like Bill Clinton, but without Clinton's almost magical ability to talk "down-home and just-like you". What's so sad is that the American distrust of intelligence and culture (in the haute culture sense of the term........art, literature, music, science, etc) may give us another session of government run by sleazy con-men.

Has anyone heard of an astrologer named Jacob Schwartz? He works a lot with asteroids and claims to have predicted the exact outcome of the 2000 election--Gore winning the popular vote but Bush "winning" the electoral college vote. This article is on his web site (but who knows when it was actually placed there) Can anyone vouch for this guy's authenticity?

He hasn't yet posted any predictions about the 2004 election yet but I just attended a lecture of his about that here in NYC...

Here is his site: (I'm jealous of the domain name he has!):

http://www.asteroids.com/

Posted by: Lawrence the LEO on September 15, 2004 05:21 AM

OOPS he does make a call on this year's election and it greatly differs with the vast majority of other astrologers I've been researching...BUSH WINS!!! EEEEEK!!!! I don't think I buy it though--

From http://www.asteroids.com

The nation is more divided than ever, and another deadlocked election is my call with the incumbent victorious after another (almost) bloodless coup. The issues are more ubiquitous than the clearly defined issues of the 1861-65 War. The divisions now are based upon perceptions and awareness of facts. Compare SAT Verbal scores and high school graduate percentages for States voting for the candidates in 2000 (source: World Almanac 2004). Significant differences prevail with higher percentages and scores for the States voting for Gore. This divide has widened since 2000! Wasn't massive Iraqi oil exports supposed to pay for the war? Mammoth flags outside import merchants only mocks the disconnect between producers and consumers! With no increased production jobs, dollars are devalued.
Contested results will prevail in MD, OH, PA and WI and wherever new voting machines leave no paper trail. In 2000, Bush's victory was partly explained by asteroids Busch and Washington conjunct. They're together again in November! Doctored voting machines, disenfranchised voters, Nader, plus fear through a real or staged attack in September will favor incumbents. This election parallels Nixon's 2nd term and the deadlocked election of 1824! In 1824 and 2004, heavy outer planets are at the Jupiter-Saturn (liberal-conservative) midpoint. The progressed USA Sun, Election Day 2004 is opposite the same position when John Q Adams was selected by Congress in 1825--to the day!! Son (JQ Adams, #6) follows father (John Adams, #2) again!? The next Iraq: Venezuela! The real message of Mel Gibson's Passion film, the Patriot Act, limited marriage laws, and terrorism used to arbitrarily and indefinitely imprison suspects is the new CD: the Criminalization of Dissent.

Posted by: Lawrence the LEO on September 15, 2004 05:24 AM

Before we all freak out about the Asteroid prediction, may I offer another view. In 2000 the asteroid Busch and Washingtonia were conjunct in Sagittarius at 15/17 degrees respectively. They were in a sextile to Bush's Moon and Jupiter and would indeed explain the "coup" They also fell close to the US ascendant and in the US 1st house.

This year Busch and Washingtonia are both in Libra, Busch is at 24 Libra conjuncting GWB's 4th House Cusp and conjunct the Election Chart Mars, and in orb of a square to GWB's Saturn. Washingtonia is 9 degrees behind the Busch Asteroid at 15 Libra, conjunct Mr. Bush's Moon and square his Sun. The placement of these two asteroids are not nearly as beneficial as the 2000 chart.

The other thing to remember is there are literally thousands of Asteroids and all of them would need to be checked.

Posted by: Sally on September 15, 2004 06:06 AM

This is an old site so many of you may have this, but you can input the name of an asteroid and you have the epheremis for that asteroid

We love you, Sally!

Thanks so much for your last post. Now I won't have another sleepless night. It's very reassuring to have you to clarify assertions of various astrologers. I studied astrology, but ultimately gave up because of the apparent (to me) impossibility of accurately covering all possible relevant aspects, and then assigning the appropriate possibility (or ranking) to each. And then putting them back together into a coherent and true whole. Kind of an infinite problem in multiple regression analysis. In real life, I've met 2 good astrologers...very good in fact....but I'm convinced they were terrific psychics as well, and I think that was a large part of why they were so good.

Posted by: Teg on September 15, 2004 07:24 AM

Thanks Teg, Astrology can be a little like Medicine "a little bit of knowlege can be dangerous" We can scare ourselves to death with aspects and predictions because there is so much to synthesize and interpret and it's always a good idea to step back and look at the whole picture, it's kind of like finding the picture in the picture and mistakes are made by all of us, like I've said before "it's not that the information isn't there, but we don't always know or understand what we are looking at." I remember once I had classic death aspects in my chart, so many that when my chart was shown to Liz Greene she asked if "this woman was still living." Well I didn't die but it was a very traumatic time. That taught me to keep peeling the onion back on the obvious and you will find a completely different story.

This sight is wonderful!

One of the main reasons Kerry will win is that Bush, our problem child, wants desperately to go home. He's had enough of his furious fathers (Sun,Saturn in Cancer in 12th), and wants out...maybe to search for his own voice of authority away from the glare of public life.
All that is happening now is that Marble Mouth, who thinks he is an eloquent speaker (being so divorced from reality), is having his last great fling in the spotlight...Pluto-south node-fifth.
I say let him have it. I, for one, cannot take 4 more years of the word "terror" being flung into my brain. Let's just let him do it now and get it over with.

love the poetry, old granny

Posted by: teresa b on September 15, 2004 01:23 PM

Sally, regarding your up-post, how timely. Maybe it's my state of mind lately, but I have been anxious that my husband in his natal chart has Pluto & Uranus in his eight house. I'm talking myself out of the anxiousness and trying to forget it. So, indeed, you're correct, " a little knowledge is a dangerous thing," especially in the hand of a novice.

Posted by: Janet on September 15, 2004 01:34 PM

I have found, from personal experience, that people with heavy 12th house placements have a phenomenal sense of guilt. I think a hard defeat is what George Bush is craving. Let's hope he is successful in achieving his aims.

Posted by: teresa b on September 15, 2004 02:22 PM

Janet, if's he's old enough to marry, he's old enough to have learned how to handle those two planets in his eighth.

A lot depends upon how well-aspected those planets are, and the sign they are in. Taken alone, an alternative interpretation could include sudden, surprise funding of projects-the ability to get large, unusual loans. He certainly is passionate and intense as a lover. And he may also have dreams that are very abstract and grand in scope-not the more typical personal dream you or I may have. Unless he's very old, Neptune also sextiles that Pluto, so his spiritual beliefs work with with his need to explore that side of him.

But without his chart, I can't really speculate further on how those planets really express themselves.

Posted by: Carol on September 15, 2004 02:56 PM

I've often speculated that George is really living out his fathers's ambitions. He never lived his life in a way that suggested that he had a strong interest in politics or much of anything else besides sports. When daddy George got beaten by Clinton, daddy's bitterness and George's need to avenge the family honor led to that 2000 run.

I remember that when George was badly beaten by John McCain in the New Hampshire primaries, he threatened to go back to Texas because he missed his pillow. And when he was sworn in and a few weeks later, he threatened once again to go back to Texas because he hated the job. It wasn't until 9/11 that he felt that he had any reason to be President-and that was to get revenge on Saddam Hussein for trying to kill his father.

Notice how little he works, how he never consults his father, how his father never spoke at the Convention. That's a sign of disengagement at the very least.

A massive defeat would free him of his father's demands forever: he'd never again have to run for public office or pretend to be a businessman again.

Posted by: Carol on September 15, 2004 03:04 PM

Posted by: teresa b on September 15, 2004 03:55 PM

Dear Nancy,
As a Cdn. I realize that my 'opinion' is; and only can be a 'visitors' opinion (polite and meaninful). Canada's financial & military security depends on the U.S. The 'strength' of the U.S. is its financial 'system'. That 'system' has been plundered to death by DEBT. Your Republican Party is supposed to eschew debt (unless for more efficient production) . . . and our (former) Prime Minister Jean Chretien pointed this out to the Bush Administration (CDN. Liberals are the domestic equivalent of U.S. Democrats). This helpful reasoning was ignored; by the Republican/Bush verbal-justification of 'security' (i.e. "the best defence is an offense"). The U.S. is 'broke' financially. It's 'interest' on debt(s) is only payable if the U.S. economy is soaring . . . and it is NOT. Can you picture the REAL debt picture if there is a currency collapse (as Nancy has indicated in another letter) this very September?). Debt is always harder to pay off when an economy is tumbling. The 'weight' of the debt increases exponentially. I ask you this . . . WHAT will John Kerry do if he wins this election? By 2005 the economic system of the U.S. of A. could be 'history'. But the debt remains. Think about that. Protect yourself Nancy (& your readers likewise).

Best,
Gary Whitehead
Canada

Also on George... I've always thought he was playing at being a President... just another game with all his little costumes, etc. He can't take anymore...he doesn't have the strength.

Posted by: teresa b on September 15, 2004 04:01 PM

one more George thing... I have always thought that he went after Saddam Hussein to steal his potency, feeling so weak and powerless against the horrible Saturnian Father.

On your post, Gary... you're right. The US is broke, broke, broke & deep in debt. On the news this morning, China just got thru executing a couple of their "kenny-boy lays & cheneys"... financial mega-criminals. HA! If President Kerry does correct, he'd do the same with the ones around here. The very least he could do is take back every penny of their stolen & ill-gotten cash & put it back into the People's treasuries all over the World. They didn't "earn" these monies... they looted it.

And it seems to me that fundies & necropubs are particularly fond of pyramid schemes. I'm waiting for the last one to collapse... the housing market. It's ready to tip & is tipping. I say, "Bring It On." Better to have the "other shoe" drop, & move on, than the highly irritable tension of waiting for the inevitable imo.

Posted by: JoannaOregon on September 15, 2004 04:36 PM

Janet, I'm guessing that he was born in early 1956. He's already been through his Uranus-Uranus opposition. Leo certainly can be quite dramatic, and with that cluster it seems at odds with his house placements. But if you look a little bit closer, you find that he's one of the few that can get backing purely through the strength of his leadership and the force of his reputation. This, despite being a bit of a maverick who likes to go his own way. Now the Capricorn/Taurus combination makes him more of a practical innovator and a person who can open up the windows. In short, he's a practical King who says-"I have an idea and I'm going with it-you can follow me!"

When I first saw Shrub's chart, I knew that he would be a weak leader. Saturn must be angular for leadership on a wider basis than simply the personal. Saturn in the 10, Seventh, or First. His was in the secretive 12th, a hard placement in and of itself, and in too-tribal Cancer, to boot.

Shrub should have been a monk tending his garden instead of President, and in a society that still listened to astrologers, he would be. But it's a blessing in disguise. They could have gotten someone more personable and competent, and we would have found out too late how bad things really were.

Posted by: Carol on September 15, 2004 05:43 PM

Carol, you have nailed my husband, with the expection that he's 1/3/55.

Love you and thanks much for helping to put my mind at ease. Now back to our inane and insane leader.

I don't remember what I was reading lasti evening, but a line jumped out at me, "We should stop saying that Bush is stupid, could be he is mentally ill." That would explain so much about this man.

Posted by: Janet on September 15, 2004 06:08 PM

Tried to post this last night but the code did not permit it to go through.

Didn't have a chance to come back here until just now as we've been preparing for Hurricane Ivan. New Orleans isn't expected to get it that badly right now, but other areas will. It's predicted to come ashore at Mobile. Our little family of 3 + a dog & cat have boarded up the windows, are well fortified, and prepared to have a Rosh Hashanah hurricane party!

I liked you joke yesterday, Dommael. And I like the optimistic spirit I'm seeing here. Kerry IS a highly intelligent and ethical Sagittarian man who has not been prepared to play dirty. I really hope everything falls into place for him. I think the problems in Iraq (something like 100 Americans dead in the last 3 days and a huge increase in injuries since August)and with the economy (oil $$$ up again), and Kerry's MC aspects and debate performance will cause the American public to be like the kittens...that's what I'm praying for. I am noticing a new, concentrated aggressiveness in Kerry's message and I think it will just intensify and clarify.

Namaste,
Sharon

In response to Sally's story about surviving death aspects but going through a traumatic time: The day I met my husband my transits were horrendous: Mars conjunct, Saturn square, Uranus quincunx, Neptune trine and Pluto opposition my 7th house Saturn. It was the most important day of my life.

Even though Jupiter is conjunct Bush's natal Jupiter in the inauguration chart, the Mars/Pluto conjunction at 18/23 Sagittarius should be important to Kerry. Also, what is the meaning of Mars on Bush's I.C. on election day?

My brother-in-law is a man who has been a religious fanatic for the last 6 years and an extremely selfish individual for most of the 22 years my sister has been married to him.
He was recently declared incompetent as the end result of a dui with injuries accident. He has alcohol-related dementia, bi-polar disorder and so on. He likely would have reached this point anyway but it accelerated due to the excessive drinking.
My whole point - we hardly noticed his mental illness because we'd adapted to his behavioral character defects. In a recent interview with his case worker I heard my sister admit his mental illness probably started ten years ago.
I have been pondering for some time how similar extreme selfishness is to mental illness.
Think this is the case with Senor Bush.
