Painting the Nation Blue
Full Blue Moon July 31, 2004
"All that is implied here is the vitalization of a powerful symbol, its embodiment in a living reality, i.e. in a person able to fly in consciousness to the highest spiritual realm. The archetype is given living substance and wings. The Image has become a Power."
The Moon in the U. S. chart falls in the 2nd House of our assets. It is forming a cozy relationship with T. Neptune creating a conjunction. The Neptunian energies provide impetus to visualize change, to bring forth new ideas, and to generate an idealism within the People. T. Mars forms an intense opposition to the U.S. n. Moon providing a boatload of Leo Fire energies inspiring and energizing the People, as Jim Morrison would intone "Come on Baby, Light my Fire". People beware as well that those well oiled spin machines are cranking at maximum power to confound, confuse, befuddle, and terrify the citizens to manipulate their Vote in November. Do not fall into the fantasy laced rhetoric eschewing forth from honeyed lips of the bellicose T. Sun in Leo which is in Parallel with the U.S n. Mercury. The Faux News networks are in cahoots with the slimey snake oil salesman and will take advantage of the inconjunct trigger from the T. Neptune to the U.S. n. Sun. Spin, spin and more spin. Hearing GWB speak is hearing revisionist history in action.

Well Morgana, this was so well worth waiting for. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You put me in mind of an old and I do mean old poem I once wrote, "like a cool hand on a hot summer wind." Posted by: Sally on August 3, 2004 04:29 AMthis was the last post on Nancy's excellent offering. You guys are right we are lucky to have such good astrologers. Anyway the Patriot Act was signed by Bush on Oct. 26, 2001 morgana, simply wonderful! thank you. Posted by: mike on August 3, 2004 04:39 AMTeresa is wonderful! Smart, sassy, sensual, empathic, beautiful, and a delight! What I admire about her is that she's doing this campaigning at all, and that she's doing it with gusto. A woman in her station could have bought her own island in paradise, said good-bye to the little people of the world, and spent the rest of her days sipping rum drinks festooned with little umbrellas. But instead, she's riding the bus through middle America, talking to the crowd, giving it back to the hecklers ("Four more years...of hell!" retorts Mama T), listening and talking with the salt of the earth, while grabbing a Wendy's frostie on the the road. I love it! Posted by: bethcf4p on August 3, 2004 05:44 AMshylurker, this one's for you. this will absolutely blow everybody's mind. it's a letter from sibel d. edmunds, former translator for the fbi, to gov. kean of the 911 commission. she rips the veil from the ugly edifice of our public brainwashing. ms. edmunds is a naturalized citizen who has shown more patriotism than any one could ever ask. she also violated a federal 'gag order' in order to do this. what courage!!!! http://www.scoop.co.nz/mason/stories/HL0408/S00012.htm
Mike, CC: Senate Judiciary Committee What you want to bet we won't see this letter in the USA press? And why IS that? I am sick to my stomach with the press and the government in this country... Namaste Posted by: Jo on August 3, 2004 01:59 PMAhhhh! Morgana music wafting through the morning air of an otherwise jagged high alert day. We are so fortunate here on Astroworld. Morgana, you will appreciate these collections I offer here this morning. http://www.cjr.org/tools/owners/ http://rittenhouse.blogspot.com/2004/07/tim-russert-is-incompetent-idiot-just.html TIM RUSSERT IS AN INCOMPETENT IDIOT Just as the NBC television network this evening ended its Thursday-night coverage of the Democratic National Convention, Tim Russert, who has here or there earned a totally unwarranted reputation as “an expert,” “a tough guy,” or “someone to be feared” –- unless, or course, you’re a Republican, if which, case, well, the show’s all yours because you or somebody like you or somebody who likes you, somebody like the General Electric Co., or the Halliburton Co., or the Archer-Daniels-Midland Co., probably paid for the whole damned thing anyway –- though, getting back to [And not on!] Russert, the big-media guy who, in a more decent and honorable world, would still be writing wire copy, or maybe a blog that ranked somewhere below 500 on Blogstreet.com, had this stupidity to say tonight (I’m paraphrasing slightly): “As we head forward I expect you’ll see all the Bush children campaigning.” Oh, so, Tim? You really-big-shot-kind-of-NBC-well-past-its-glory-days-kind-of-fake-fair- coverage, you. Who, exactly?
Dems' new deal? Bully for better news stories Reporters, beware: The Democratic Party is revamping its lovey-dovey approach and telling campaign press secretaries to come down like a ton of bricks if you screw up or slip in a little attitude. "When it comes to the media," suggests Democratic strategist James Carville, "intimidation works." He offers a tactic: "Send E-mails to the press. They do respond to pressure." That message was part of the training new campaign press secretaries were given in Boston last week during the party's convention. Hate a story? Either bully the reporter and cow the newsie into tossing you a bone, or hit hard and scare him into changing his tone and coverage. "Challenge them," encouraged David Brock of the new liberal Media Matters outfit, formed to police the press--especially the conservative media. A communications handbook from Democrats offers a softer approach. "If the error is minor," it says, "don't make a big deal out of it and don't demand a correction. The reporter is only human and will probably feel bad and apologize and perhaps feel as though he or she owes you one."
http://www.scoop.co.nz/mason/stories/HL0408/S00012.htm Open Letter To Thomas Kean – Chairman Of The 9/11 Commission - From FBI Whistleblower Sibel Edmonds August 1, 2004 Thomas Kean, Chairman Dear Chairman Kean: It has been almost three years since the terrorist attacks on September 11; during which time we, the people, have been placed under a constant threat of terror and asked to exercise vigilance in our daily lives. Your commission, the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks upon the United States, was created by law to investigate “facts and circumstances related to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001” and to “provide recommendations to safeguard against future acts of terrorism”, and has now issued its “9/11 Commission Report”. You are now asking us to pledge our support for this report, its recommendations, and implementation of these recommendations, with our trust and backing, our tax money, our security, and our lives. Unfortunately, I find your report seriously flawed in its failure to address serious intelligence issues that I am aware of, which have been confirmed, and which as a witness to the commission, I made you aware of. Thus, I must assume that other serious issues that I am not aware of were in the same manner omitted from your report. These omissions cast doubt on the validity of your report and therefore on its conclusions and recommendations. Considering what is at stake, our national security, we are entitled to demand answers to unanswered questions, and to ask for clarification of issues that were ignored and/or omitted from the report. I, Sibel Edmonds, a concerned American Citizen, a former FBI translator, a whistleblower, a witness for a United States Congressional investigation, a witness and a plaintiff for the Department of Justice Inspector General investigation, and a witness for your own 9/11 Commission investigation, request your answers to, and your public acknowledgement of, the following questions and issues: After the terrorist attacks of September 11 we, the translators at the FBI’s largest and most important translation unit, were told to slow down, even stop, translation of critical information related to terrorist activities so that the FBI could present the United States Congress with a record of ‘extensive backlog of untranslated documents’, and justify its request for budget and staff increases. While FBI agents from various field offices were desperately seeking leads and suspects, and completely depending on FBI HQ and its language units to provide them with needed translated information, hundreds of translators were being told by their administrative supervisors not to translate and to let the work pile up ( please refer to the CBS-60 Minutes transcript dated October 2002, and provided to your investigators in January-February 2004). This issue has been confirmed by the Senate Judiciary Committee ( Please refer to Senator Grassley and Senator Leahy’s letters during the summer of 2002, provided to your investigators in January-February 2004). It's good to see ourselves as others see us. I've been finding The Daily Howler's concept of a media "script," a story line that shapes coverage, often in the teeth of the evidence, particularly helpful in understanding cable news. For example, last summer, when growth briefly broke into a gallop, cable news decided that the economy was booming. The gallop soon slowed to a trot, and then to a walk. But judging from the mail I recently got after writing about the slowing economy, the script never changed; many readers angrily insisted that my numbers disagreed with everything they had seen on TV. If you really want to see cable news scripts in action, look at the coverage of the Democratic convention. Commercial broadcast TV covered only one hour a night. We'll see whether the Republicans get equal treatment. C-Span, on the other hand, provided comprehensive, commentary-free coverage. But many people watched the convention on cable news channels - and what they saw was shaped by a script portraying Democrats as angry Bush-haters who disdain the military. If that sounds like a script written by the Republicans, it is. As the movie "Outfoxed" makes clear, Fox News is for all practical purposes a G.O.P. propaganda agency. A now-famous poll showed that Fox viewers were more likely than those who get their news elsewhere to believe that evidence of Saddam-Qaeda links has been found, that W.M.D. had been located and that most of the world supported the Iraq war. She The Edmonds case has proved to be a growing concern to the F.B.I. because it touches on three potential vulnerabilities for the bureau: The Justice Department has imposed an unusually broad veil of secrecy on the Edmonds case, declaring details of her case to be a matter of "state secrets." The department has blocked her from testifying in a lawsuit brought by families of Sept. 11 victims, it has retroactively classified briefings Congressional officials were given in 2002, and it has Mr. Mueller's letter, sent July 21 to leading members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, offered a rare glimpse inside the F.B.I.'s thinking on the case, and its content surprised some congressional officials. The report also provides abbreviated and sweetly presented 9-11 event timelines – apparently still being debated in spite of being sold for $10 each by the Government Printing Office. The report might have been original in its recommendations, yet even these mirror last month’s "How We Went to War in Iraq on False Pretenses, Part I."* More bureaucracy, more centralization, more superficial accountability and no real accountability. Failing government agencies and departments should have been eliminated. Industries, like those relating to public air transportation, should have been brutally weaned from the federal teat. Numerous senior bureaucrats should have lost their jobs. Instead, we augmented and poured funds into the poor performers, increased the federal coddling of the transportation industry, and added new bureaucratic layers typified by the Department of Homeland Security, so everyone gets their piece of the tax- and debt-funded action. *(http://intelligence.senate.gov/iraqreport2.pdf) More... Korean Missiles Said to Threaten U.S. BERLIN (Reuters) - North Korea (news - web sites) is deploying new land- and sea-based ballistic missiles that can carry nuclear warheads and may have sufficient range to hit the United States, according to the authoritative Jane's Defense Weekly. In an article due to appear Wednesday, Jane's said the two new systems appeared to be based on a decommissioned Soviet submarine-launched ballistic missile, the R-27. It said communist North Korea had acquired the know-how during the 1990s from Russian missile specialists and by buying 12 former Soviet submarines which had been sold for scrap metal but retained key elements of their missile launch systems. Jane's, which did not specify its sources, said the sea-based missile was potentially the more threatening of the two new weapons systems. "It would fundamentally alter the missile threat posed by the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) and could finally provide its leadership with something that it has long sought to obtain -- the ability to directly threaten the continental U.S.," the weekly said. Apart from targeting the United States, South Korea (news - web sites) or Japan, cash-strapped North Korea might seek to sell the technology to countries that have bought its missiles in the past, with Iran a prime candidate, the article added. Ian Kemp, news editor of Jane's Defense Weekly, said North Korea would only spend the money and effort on developing such missiles if it intended to fit them with nuclear warheads. More... There may be so many GOPers applying for the Court Jester position they may run out of bladders on sticks! Right on, Siobhan, let me set the template, it's like this: Beware of 2 November, it is going to be a bad day at the What she/he is probably talking about is T Jupiter is in an almost exact square to T Pluto and they set up a t-square to GWB's Uranus. Mercury at 8 degrees Virgo is coming close to its stationary retrograde position and is less than a degree from GWB's Mars. T Pluto and T Jupiter is also conjuncting the Inaugural Moon in the 8th house. It could relate to loss of money for the US or another breaking scandal for GWB, it would be unexpected (with his Uranus involved.) Saturn is conjunct his Mercury/MC midpoint and that is a sadness, separation, aimlessness or abandonment of one's aims. T Pluto and Jupiter are aspecting his Uranus/NN midpoint, that would be sudden events or upsets and sudden good luck. Mercury is aspecting his Neptune/Pluto midpoint and that would be many plans incapable of being realized, sensitive nerves and a problem thinking for himself. A Jupiter/Pluto square is fanatism, it isn't clear (because his Uranus is involved with the T Planets) whether he is the victim on the 6th or victimizes others. Water Offers Deadly Relief in a Blistering Iraqi Slum Wed Aug 4, 7:55 AM ET Add Top Stories - Los Angeles Times to My Yahoo! By Ashraf Khalil Special to The Times BAGHDAD — The price of bicycle pumps has more than quadrupled in Sadr City, for reasons that have nothing to do with cycling. Residents of Baghdad's worst slum use them to coax water from the district's battered supply lines. It's either that or use their mouths as though they're siphoning gas.
But there's a problem — the water is making them sick.
"If I showed you the water in our house, you would not believe it," said Taiha Abdel Reda, 45. "We turn on the tap and the water has a foul smell and we see threads of [human waste] in it." Those who end up hospitalized don't fare much better. Nuwesri said his hospital often uses water that's "just as contaminated as the water in the homes." Even that tainted supply has been known to disappear for up to 18 hours. Several times, Nuwesri said, he's had to appeal to local fire stations to provide the hospital with emergency water tankers. The hospital director shrugs off the irony of serving tainted water to patients made sick by tainted water. A 35-year resident of Sadr City, Nuwesri shares his neighbors' sense of helpless resignation. "We can't even get contaminated water!" he said. "Let's first get some and then we'll worry if it's hygienic." Health officials, meanwhile, admit there's little to be done in the short term but chronicle the scope of the outbreak — and even that is hampered by a lack of facilities. "Since 1991, we've had no studies, no programs," said Salmany of the communicable disease center. Salmany's office has worked with the World Health Organization (news - web sites) to distribute 48,000 20-liter water jugs and 2 million purification tablets to residents. But the efforts have made little impact in District 74, a Sadr City neighborhood that health officials regard as an infectious disease hotbed. "The water we drink is the same as this," said Khadar Abbas, pointing to an open sewer outside his home. He had only vaguely heard of the purification pill distribution program. The Abbas family draws water from an outdoor spigot with a bicycle pump and stores it in a yellow plastic barrel, boiling a portion each morning for drinking. The barrel is now discolored with brown and green streaks, and the boiling hasn't prevented one of Abbas' sons from contracting hepatitis E. Down the street, a funeral banner hangs for Amal Kadhim. "The condition started with vomiting. At first I was happy because I thought she was pregnant," said Kadhim's widower, Qassim Wussfy. She died three days after checking into a hospital, heavily jaundiced and gasping for breath. Municipal officials offer little short-term hope. "We're not just sitting here," said Jaleel Abaidy, a spokesman for the Baghdad Municipality, which is responsible for city public works efforts. A new project, scheduled to begin this month, will provide 33 million gallons of clean water to Sadr City, he said. But that will take nine months, at best, to complete, and Abaidy acknowledged that there's little to be done to help Sadr City's residents bear the rest of the summer. "We inherited an existing problem," he said. "The whole system has expired." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyhow to add to what Sally said. This chart has Saturn at 19 Sag. 16. pluto 5 aq 50, Jupiter 27 scopio 14, moon 20 pices 50 and the mid point of Pluto and Neptune is 5 sag and mid heaven at 15 Aqu. I think Sally did not say that Neptune was opposite the Sun on the 6th. No I did not write the first reference, but had been working with the A of C chart for Aug 27 and just realized that all my figures where a bit past. I don't have the energy to recalculate to the 6th. But I may be wrong that Aug 27 is the dangerous day for Bush and it is tomorrow or more likely both. Will we know what happens, maybe so maybe not. On a more positive note. I was reading my emails, lots of doom and gloom, and then I was reading one from Gov. Dean about a petition about Tom Delay. Then all of a sudden I knew I did not need to do so, as everything is being taken care of and there is no longer any need to worry. And I doubt that we even have to wait for the election. It is like all those guys just melt away and are gone. Kinda goes along with the blue moon artical(great artical as usual by the way). Posted by: Barbara on August 5, 2004 01:30 PMYes Joe, age and level of development being key factors in my observations of GWB. Levels of consciousness and awareness determine how 'physically' or 'actionable' the planetary energies tend to manifest. Resistance to the energies or message tend to increase energy build up which later can explode. GWB impresses me as late baby or early to mid young soul age manifesting as late baby. That's karmic speak and only my opinion. In other words, GWB does not give one the impression of wisdom or growth from his immediate human experience. That leads me to believe that he is quite suseptable to the symbolism his transits imply thru 'external actions' as opposed to 'inner reflection.' As he happens to be president of USA, this impacts not only my life but the rest of the country and world. His Sun conjunct Sun of USA chart further reflects growing pains of this country. I can only hope that the 'People of USA' can collectively manifest at a higher level of consciousness. **As you read your short report, or any other astrological report, keep in mind that the energies interpreted here are your birth potentials. President Bush continues to trail Democratic nominee Sen. John Kerry in the presidential election polls, not so much because Kerry has electrified the American electorate, but because he's not Bush. Then it happens - the "October Surprise." The original "October Surprise" was allegedly carried out in 1980 by officials of Ronald Reagan's presidential campaign. Iranian militants had stormed the U.S. embassy in Tehran in 1979, taking approximately 66 American hostages. President Jimmy Carter's administration pursued the return of the hostages but had little success. Years later, former Carter administration staffer Gary Sick attributed Carter's setback in this matter to overtures made to the Iranian government by officials of the Reagan campaign. By encouraging the Iranians to continue holding the hostages beyond the November 1980 presidential election, the Reagan supporters believed that their candidate would have a much better opportunity to unseat Carter. Whether or not Reagan's entourage actually convinced the Iranians to withhold the release of the hostages is still rigorously disputed. What is beyond dispute, however, is that Iran released the remaining hostages on Jan. 20, 1981, immediately after Reagan took office. So if you were Karl Rove, Bush's top political strategist, and your candidate was slipping in the polls, what re- election strategy would you be cooking up right now? More.... Missed Chance It is curious that President George W. Bush, who so vaunts his decisiveness in his war on terror, displays such a half-hearted approach to the institutional changes needed to prosecute it better. A couple of years ago Congress had to press him to make the new director of homeland security a cabinet job. His reluctance to provide White House intelligence briefings to the 9/11 commission helped delay that panel's work. And now that the commission has produced its final report, Mr Bush has only half-adopted its most important recommendation - for a national intelligence director. The latter would be responsible for co-ordinating the many US intelligence agencies, but in practice lacks the power to do so. As the 9/11 commission report made clear, various bits of the US intelligence apparatus held key information on the hijackers but failed to put it together in a way that might have alerted it to the hijackers' deadly intent. The chief failure was lack of co-ordination between US domestic and foreign intelligence-gatherers. Many countries separate these two activities for obvious reasons. But in the US, the separation between the Federal Bureau of Investigation's focus on domestic security and the Central Intelligence Agency's foreign espionage brief was increased to the point of non-communication in reaction to the Watergate scandal, during which the Nixon administration used former CIA employees to spy on, and burgle, their political enemies at home. Betrayal of trust - - - - - - - - - - - - ??Aug. 4, 2004 | The fog of war has descended over the campaign. Within 72 hours after the Democratic Convention ended, the Department of Homeland Security declared a new terror alert, jacking up the color-coded level from yellow to orange, verging on red. The cause, the government reported, was that the computer of an al-Qaida operative captured in Pakistan contained precise information about threats to five financial institutions in New York and Washington.
The effect of the alert has been to throw the presidential campaign into turmoil and momentarily freeze it. John Kerry decided to accept the administration's explanations and timing at face value. He could not be seen as veering into an Oliver Stone script, flailing at shadows of paranoia. His critique of Bush's war on terrorism must be made with iron discipline, based on the facts at hand, not the suspicions in mind. Yet other Democrats have felt free to voice their views that the administration is using the situation for political advantage. The steam puts additional pressure on Kerry, who has to hold fast. In part, the level of partisanship has increased because of the clumsy performance of Tom Ridge, the secretary of homeland security, who turned the alert announcement into a political rally. "We must understand that the kind of information available to us today is the result of the president's leadership in the war against terror," he said on Aug. 1. Several days later, Ridge held another news conference, at which he declared, "We do not do politics at the Department of Homeland Security." With that the alert rose to the risible. More.... Posted by: Susan on August 5, 2004 05:00 PMThat is what I am asking. I used not to pay that much attention to eclipses, til I got to the study of mundane astrology. Indicates to me that perhaps he does read and hear what the rest of the world and at least half of the country is saying to him. I wish Mr. Bush no harm and I wish no harm would come to us because of Mr. Bush, however it already has. There is a large group here of Republicans with an organization campigning against the present administration. They are mostly wealthy and gave heavily to the their party in 2000. This has been a really bitter pill for them and their honesty and courage in turning away is something to admire, but it is very painful and hard for them. They don't feel this is about Republican vs Democrats, or even conservative vs liberal. To them, and to me, this is about saving our constitution and our country. They intend to first do all they can to bring in a new administration and then they intend to watch and demand honesty from Kerry. A person cannot just focusing on "winning" without looking at what they are "winning." Joe Trippi wrote an article about the parties making themselves obsolete and I could not agree more. Are we going to be part of the problem or part of the solution is a question we must all ask ourselves. For me this election is not about a specific party "taking back" the White House and it's not about a couple of ill-timed GOP tax cuts. The disregard and disrespect for democracy has been stunning, one cannot even list all that has happened since 2000 with a President who has basically said "this is not your country, it's mine and with those I choose to share." We have to ask ourselves if we ignored the warning signs of America and all her dreams have been sold to Corporate dictators, and one of them is sitting in the White House with his friends, if so we have to resolve to remain active no matter which party we determine will lead us. There is a price to pay for abdicating our power as "the people" and we are paying that price right now. 1st order of business is to change the landscape in Washington, 2nd order of business is to continue our watchdog efforts and make the government accountable to the people once again. Posted by: Sally on August 5, 2004 07:45 PMOne of the great conservative mindsets has been that the government should not own anything. With that in mind, they have under each Republican administration sold public buildings, trashed our waterways, and desolated our public lands. The government has no right to any of this. The building, waterwasy, and lands belong to the people, and the government is caring for them in our name. I want my property back. Republican Sen. John McCain, a former prisoner of war in Vietnam, called an ad criticizing John Kerry's military service "dishonest and dishonorable" and urged the White House on Thursday to condemn it as well. The 60-second ad features Vietnam veterans who accuse the Democratic presidential nominee of lying about his decorated Vietnam War record and betraying his fellow veterans by later opposing the conflict [...] "I wish they hadn't done it," McCain said of his former advisers. "I don't know if they knew all the facts." Asked if the White House knew about the ad or helped find financing for it, McCain said, "I hope not, but I don't know. But I think the Bush campaign should specifically condemn the ad." The ad is beyond the bounds of common decency -- to attack the highly-decorated Kerry, who volunteered for combat duty while AWOL Bush played pool volleyball with ambitious secretaries in Texas. And the ad doesn't feature a single vet who served on Kerry's swiftboat. If McCain wants to campaign against the politics of personal destruction, then he needs to cast his lot elsewhere or remain neutral." http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/8/5/114044/0656 Namaste
No, I agree it is wrong for people to attack Kerry in the manner this ad does. And I am sure President Bush will speak out against it. There are more than enough people who served with Kerry who stand by him and we as a country should stand behind his service and earning those medals. The past is the past. Just as John Kerry earned his medals, George W. Bush served his time in the national guard. The past is the past. But there is still more than enough to attack Kerry on that has occured during his time as a Mass. Senator. Seems we have lost our moral compass some 59 years later: As if to offer its own version of a Hiroshima Day celebration, only last week the Bush administration reversed course and announced, according to the Washington Post's Dafna Linzer, that "it will oppose provisions for inspections and verification as part of an international treaty that would ban production of nuclear weapons materials… Arms-control specialists reacted negatively, saying the change in U.S. position will dramatically weaken any treaty and make it harder to prevent nuclear materials from falling into the hands of terrorists. The announcement, they said, also virtually kills a 10-year international effort to lure countries such as Pakistan, India and Israel into accepting some oversight of their nuclear production programs." At least, to look on the bright side, if some of those "materials" should fall into the hands of terrorists, this administration has a plan -- to save itself. With an extra $652 million in supplemental Armageddon funds last year and thanks to a Relocation Procedures and Support Handbook it's produced, notes Los Angeles Times military analyst William Arkin, top Bush administration officials will be prepared to repair to Site R, the Raven Rock underground bunker that housed Vice President Dick Cheney after Sept. 11, with full instructions on what to bring:

The group bought $500,000 of airtime for the 60-second ad to air in the battleground states of Wisconsin, Ohio, and West Virginia. The effort is reminiscent of a 2000 effort that helped drive George W. Bush's then-rival John McCain from the presidential race. Perry's June donation accounted for most of the $158,750 that Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, founded in April, reported raising as of June 30. John Krugh, a spokesman for Perry Homes, declined to comment on Perry's contribution. "This is a personal action on his part," Krugh said Thursday. "We don't participate in media interviews." Perry didn't immediately respond to a message seeking comment. Last year, Perry Homes donated $10,000 to the Republican Governors Association. Perry has given at least $260,000 to Republican candidates and party committees on the federal level from the 1999-2000 election cycle to the current cycle, according to donation data compiled by the nonpartisan Political Money Line. Perry's donations in the 2003-04 cycle include $10,000 to the pro-Republican Club for Growth political group and at least $19,250 to federal candidates and party committees, including $2,000 to Bush's re-election effort. He is also a major giver in Texas. A 2002 study by the campaign finance watchdog group Texans for Public Justice ranked Perry as the No. 3 donor in the state that election cycle, with at least $1.5 million in contributions to Republican candidates and political action committees in Texas. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5594697/site/newsweek/ A Clockwork Orange Alert? The Attorney General said that the partial re-opening of the Statue of Liberty had inspired him to consider a partial reinstatement of the first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution which, except for the right to bear arms, were mothballed during the first year of the Bush administration. “Much like Lady Liberty, the Bill of Rights is an American institution that a lot of our citizens, rightly or wrongly, have a sentimental attachment to," Mr. Ashcroft said. "They should be permitted to visit those rights from time to time.” Under Mr. Ashcroft's plan, such long-suspended rights as freedom of speech would be in effect Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 until 5. He said that such other rights as freedom of assembly would not be officially reinstated but might be brought back as a "premium service" of the Constitution, available to some Americans for a reasonable monthly fee. Constitutional law expert Harland Bolton of the University of Minnesota criticized the Ashcroft proposal, saying, “While I welcome any return of the Bill of Rights, I seriously doubt that the framers of the constitution ever imagined that those rights would be subject to summer hours.” Mr. Ashcroft said that Mr. Bolton and others were welcome to criticize his proposal, “so long as they don't do it on Tuesday or Thursday.” Elsewhere, presidential candidate Ralph Nader today unveiled his official campaign slogan, “Hemp is on the way.” Andy Borowitz http://www.unobserver.com/index.php?pagina=layout4.php&id=1849&blz=1 Posted by: JO on August 6, 2004 11:02 PMsomebody needs a girlfriend.... Its so sad and tragic that so many across this nation remain so deluded by fear and ignorance. From what I read on the net the situation in Iraq is deteriorating by the day and yet most Americans haven't a clue. It looks like in the best case scenario we'll get Kerry and he'll no doubt be continually attacked on both the right and the left for the ongoing fiasco. It doesn't sound to me like anyone can "win" the election for both now stand on unwinnable platforms regarding Iraq and the Middle-East. I'm finally going to see F9/11 tonight! Seems like I've been waiting any eternity for it. From what I have read about it, I'm guessing that Moore might have been closer on target with what is wrong with America in "Bowling for Columbine"--for it is not just the Bush cabal, as bad as they really are, but rather the whole culture of violence that is so endemic to this society which must be overcome. Real change cannot come from the top. My wish for this year is for a real change across America, and that is something that cannot be measured by an election. namaste... Six-year-old Emiko Amai has just seen a large dark object fall from the belly of a plane. Her little brother Mitsuo looks up and notices: He licked his lips, still watching the strange object fall. I saw his eyes then his whole body turn away from the scene that had interrupted our morning game. The glint of a smooth stone had stolen away his attention. It glistened at his knees in the brilliant morning sun, and suddenly it began to glow and the stone rose up from its mud pocket, which in an instant turned hard-baked and grey..." The Living Myths About Nuclear Murder At 1:45 a.m. on August 6, 1945, a US B-29 bomber, named Enola Gay, took off from Tinian Island in the Mariana Islands. It carried the world's second atomic bomb, the first having been detonated three weeks earlier at a US test site in Alamogordo, New Mexico. The Enola Gay carried one atomic bomb, with an enriched uranium core. The bomb had been named "Little Boy." It had an explosive force of some 12,500 tons of TNT. At 8:15 a.m. that morning, as the citizens of Hiroshima were beginning their day, the Enola Gay released its horrific cargo, which fell for 43 seconds before detonating at 580 meters above Shima Hospital near the center of the city. Here is a description from a pamphlet published by the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum of what happened immediately following the explosion: "The temperature of the air at the point of explosion reached several million degrees Celsius (the maximum temperature of conventional bombs is approximately 5,000 degrees Celsius). Several millionths of a second after the explosion a fireball appeared, radiating white heat. After 1/10,000th of a second, the fireball reached a diameter of approximately 28 meters with a temperature of close to 300,000 degrees Celsius. At the instant of the explosion, intense heat rays and radiation were released in all directions, and a blast erupted with incredible pressure on the surrounding air." As a result of the blast, heat and ensuing fires, the city of Hiroshima was leveled and some 90,000 people in it perished that day. The world's second test of a nuclear weapon demonstrated conclusively the awesome power of nuclear weapons for killing and maiming. Schools were destroyed and their students and teachers slaughtered. Hospitals with their patients and medical staffs were obliterated. The bombing of Hiroshima was an act of massive destruction of a civilian population, the destruction of an entire city with a single bomb. Harry Truman, president of the United States, upon being notified, said, in egregiously poor judgment, "This is the greatest thing in history." Three days after destroying Hiroshima, after failing to find an opening in the clouds over its primary target of the city of Kokura, a US B-29 bomber, named Bockscar, attacked the Japanese city of Nagasaki with the world's third atomic weapon. This bomb had a plutonium core and an explosive force of some 22,000 tons of TNT. It had been named "Fat Man." The attack took place at 11:02 a.m. It resulted in the immediate deaths of some 40,000 people. In his first speech to the US public about the bombing of Hiroshima, which he delivered on August 9, 1945, the day the atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, Harry Truman reported: "The world will note that the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, a military base. That was because we wished in this first attack to avoid, insofar as possible, the killing of civilians." While Hiroshima did have a military base in the city, it was not the base that was targeted, but the center of the city. The vast majority of the victims in Hiroshima were ordinary civilians, including large numbers of women and children. Truman continued, "But that attack is only a warning of things to come." Truman went on to refer to the "awful responsibility which has come to us," and to "thank God that it has come to us, instead of to our enemies." He prayed that God "may guide us to use it in His ways and for His purpose." It was a chilling and prophetic prayer. By the end of 1945, some 145,000 people had died in Hiroshima, and some 75,000 people had died in Nagasaki. Tens of thousands more suffered serious injuries. Deaths among survivors of the bombings have continued over the years due primarily to the effects of radiation poisoning. Under the cover of the term "Military Transformation" & with the blanket of 9/11, the military is taking a wide berth in land stealing. And, recently enacted Act 50 makes criminals out of people who have been displaced by the military itself, many of them Native Hawaiian. "They bombed the houses in the l940s & took over the entire valley," explained Sparky Rodrigues, one of many Makua residents still waiting to move home. "The govt moved all of the residents out & said after the war, you can move back - & then they used the houses for target practice. The families tell stories that the military came with guns & said, 'Here's $300, thank you,' & 'You've got to move.' Those people remain w/o their houses, & for years, many lived on the beaches in beautiful Makua Valley, watching the bombing of their land. "Tomorrow morning they're going to detonate a 1,000 pounder, a 500 pounder & a 100 pound bomb," Rodriques mused. Such detonations are part of the military cleanup of the site before, apparently, any new maneuvers. "We've gone in & observed them detonate those bombs," said Rodriques. More than once, live ammunition has washed up on the beaches at Makua. Malu Aina, a military watchdog group from Hawaii reported: "Live military ordnance in large quantities has been found off Hapuna Beach & in Hilo Bay. Additional ordnance, incl grenades, artillery shells, rockets, mortars, armor piercing ordnance, bazooka rounds, napalm bombs, & hedgehog missiles have been found at Hilo airport in Waimea town, Waikoloa Village, in No & So Kohala at Puako & Mahukona, in Kea'au & Maku 'u farm lots in Puna, at So Point in Ka'u, & on residential & school grounds. Now they are at odds with one another, and this is perhaps the most difficult last quarter moon of the year. In addition, this is the moon phase when we begin to release, and that is very hard for Taurus. In other words, there will be a great deal of inner turmoil now. Often release is forced on us, regardless of our desires. This Moon relates to the Scorpio Total Lunar Eclipse of May 4, which opened up to the public the torture at Abu Ghraib. This time, then, is midway between two eclipses, that of last May 4, and the coming eclipse of October 28. This midpoint is the most common time of eclipse manifestation. The events of early August are very significant, especially in regard to how we apply our power to resource use. The Leo release is about getting excess pride and arrogance out of the way. Juno, often connected with fear and with victims, is rising in Washington. Neptune is the featured energy here, and again, whether we like it or not, Neptune is very good at dissolving things, in this case the Leo problem of excess ego, and the Taurus problem of excess acquisitiveness. The Sabian Symbol for 16 Taurus is: "AN OLD TEACHER FAILS TO INTEREST HIS PUPILS IN TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE. The inadequacy of past knowledge in times of crisis. Posted by: Laurie on August 7, 2004 01:15 PMNow here is a documentary worth watching. From DailyKos: Cole on outing of Al Qaida double agent Juan Cole sums it up nicely: People, this is bigger than the Plame Affair (as horrible as that outing was). We are locked in a bona fide war against a shadowy enemy. We finally infiltrate an Al Qaida cell, and our asset is burned in a matter of days either out of political expediency or sheer stupidity. As Juan Cole, regardless of which it is, the current administration does not deserve to be in power. Kerry needs to make this an issue.
If indeed, as some believe, a civil war in Iraq is on the horizon, one can find evidence for US CIA involvment, as usual... Juan Cole has been talking about this for some time: "Since al-Zurufi was brought in by the Americans (he is old-time al-Da'wa Party, and was in exile in Dearborn, where he appears to have been unemployed, before he suddenly emerged recently as the US appointee over Najaf. This profile suggests that he was a CIA asset and has been brought in in part to deal with Muqtada). One problem with an all-out attack on the Mahdi Army was that it might endanger the life of, or meet opposition from, Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani. He was therefore spirited out of Najaf on the pretext that he had heart problems. But Al-Zaman reports today that Sistani stopped off in Beirut on his way to London, where he met with moderate Shiite leader Nabih Berri of the AMAL party, who serves as Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament. Sistani then went on to London, but is not in hospital and won't be for at least a week. This story just does not square with him being so ill that he had to be airlifted to London for emergency heart treatment. It would not have been easy for al-Zurufi and the Americans to convince Sistani to leave, but they could have simply shared with him their plans to have an all-out war in Najaf, and told him they could not protect him. That would have left him no choice but to leave. If you think about it, he could not possibly have been gotten out of Najaf to Beirut and London without US military assistance, though he flew a private plane from Baghdad airport." More at www.juancole.com Civil war is to be expected, considering that most Iraqis have unbelievable freedom now and do not realize at what price that freedom costed those who gave it to them. If a civil war is the only way for that country to unite itself, then it may be inevitable, and only one could hope that after it occurs the Iraqi people will realize they are brothers and sisters of god, and need to unify in peace and harmony. "Iraq has never been easy to govern, even by a dictator. And one thing all Iraqis share is a hatred of foreign occupiers. And, despite the public-relations sleight of hand in supposedly giving sovereignty to a government with no power to assume it, we are still viewed as occupiers – which, in truth, we are. Unfortunately, we are occupiers who, despite all these months and all these billions of dollars, cannot get the electricity up and running on a consistent basis, cannot repair the sewer and water plants our bombs destroyed, and cannot keep the oil flowing to the world market at a regular pace. Some progress, naturally, has been made. After all, not even Halliburton can spend billions of dollars without stacking some bricks. But most Iraqis live in fear and squalor, and they blame us. After all, we bombed them for a decade and imposed sanctions that were the equivalent of a medieval siege. We stood by while looters destroyed what the bombs had left. We disbanded their army and police force. If we don't get out of Iraq soon – and I'm talking months, not years – we're going to be as intensely hated by the Iraqis as the Israelis are by the Palestinians – for the same reason. Nobody likes an occupier. Sovereignty, of course, is defined by power, not by a piece of paper, and the Iraqis know the true situation. The failure to anticipate and plan for what would happen after our military victory is reason enough to dump the members of the administration in Washington. They had to disregard a huge amount of wise advice and be skull-dense stupid to get us into this bloody, multibillion-dollar cesspool. To this day, they don't know how they are going to get out. It's hard to reconcile elections in January, assuming they even happen, with simultaneous talk about American troops staying for years. In the meantime, the number of Americans killed is pressing steadily toward the 1,000 mark, and the number of permanently maimed is already profoundly sad. For what have these brave young men and women sacrificed their lives? I think Rudyard Kipling has the answer. "If any question why we died, Tell them because our fathers lied," he wrote in a bitter poem after the war that had claimed his only son. There were no weapons of mass destruction, there was no cooperation with al-Qaida, there was no threat, gathering or otherwise, to the United States, and, as of Aug. 2, 912 young men and women have died to prove that. Arms inspectors could have proven the same thing without the grief blight on American families." Spiritualizing the collective to more heart oriented rather than brain oriented as it was in Aquarius. I'm guessing it's why fundie internalization could take hold during the last decade. God as object. God as outside oneself, not felt. Or we would not harm one other thing that 'felt' too. I believe there is a bigger issue at work here and that is fear. I think people on both sides of the aisle are afraid. My sister was visibly frightend when I told her that I have all my representative's phone numbers programmed into my cell phone. I, too have been guilty of allowing this adminstration to "frighten" me out of something. I still sometimes hesitate but not as much. We have to come to grips with our fear and for some people it takes a little longer. And we have enough information to speculate on the possibilites. We have heard that Bush seems to be having mental problems at the momment. He makes a big Fraudian slip on national TV. Mental problems often stem from something that happened in the early family dynamics. The whole gang is in Kenneybuckport in the home that Barbara Bush inherited, at Jeb Bush son's wedding. Now we will probably never learn what goes on there or what these aspects mean exactly, but I bet it is more than who cuts the wedding cake. What effects the president emotionally also effects the country and these aspects are like the set up and the results will take form at a later date. I saw a date back in Feb before the Iraqi invasion that had very big aspects and nothing happened. But on reflection it would have been a time that the Iraqi war was being planned and I speculate that the chart reflects some decision that was made behind closed doors. By the way Florida has a law that they will break if they do not release the names. Nothing that happens in gov can be hidden in the state. If school board member Jones has lunch with Judge Smith then they better have a reporter sitting there or they break the law. It is called the Sunshine law. Jean
LA Times story on the unruly hecklers when Kerry/ Jean, Last quarter of this moon, let's see what pops out of the darkness. Posted by: Morgana on August 8, 2004 12:13 AMI'm sure this isn't making it any easier.... The national guardsman peering through the long-range scope of his rifle was startled by what he saw unfolding in the walled compound below. From his post several stories above ground level, he watched as men in plainclothes beat blind folded and bound prisoners in the enclosed grounds of the Iraqi Interior Ministry. He immediately radioed for help. Soon after, a team of Oregon Army National Guard soldiers swept into the yard and found dozens of Iraqi detainees who said they had been beaten, starved and deprived of water for three days. In a nearby building, the soldiers counted dozens more prisoners and what appeared to be torture devices - metal rods, rubber hoses, electrical wires and bottles of chemicals. Many of the Iraqis, including one identified as a 14-year-old boy, had fresh welts and bruises across their back and legs. The soldiers disarmed the Iraqi jailers, moved the prisoners into the shade, released their handcuffs and administered first aid. Lt. Col. Daniel Hendrickson of Albany, Ore., the highest ranking American at the scene, radioed for instructions. But in a move that frustrated and infuriated the guardsmen, Hendrickson's superior officers told him to return the prisoners to their abusers and immediately withdraw. It was June 29 - Iraq's first official day as a sovereign country since the U.S. invasion. [snip] The U.S. Embassy in Iraq confirmed the incident occurred and disclosed for the first time that the United States raised questions about the June 29 "brutality" with Iraq's interior minister. The embassy declined to say what response was received in the meeting between the minister and James Jeffrey, the second-ranking U.S. diplomat in Iraq, saying it would be "inappropriate" to discuss "details of those diplomatic and confidential conversations." Which means it is still a dead tight race. Second, the claim of undecided voters is pretty bogus. Most of the people who will vote in November have already made up their minds. Posted by: mike on August 8, 2004 08:29 AMDid anyone else watch Krugman/O’Reilly on Tim Russet tonight? I thought O'Reilly just blathered on using nothing but gross generalities with zilch to back up his inane blathering but his big foul mouth. Russet just sat there not being a proper moderator, (which made me angry) allowing O’Reilly to do his “Big-Bully-Boy” shtick consisting of over the top interruptions, name calling, and ramblings, which were nothing, more than a big crapper load of hyperbole. How can an intellectual like Krugman hold his own against a predatory lunatic that can only resort to interruptions, name-calling, threats and bullying when comforted with facts? I felt sorry for Paul Krugman, because he is a gentleman that came to that show armed with facts and knowledge, willing to present his views in a civilized forum. But all he could do was sigh with frustration as he endured an hour of “in his face” verbal abuse, interruptions and threats from nothing more than a empty headed loud mouth, a one trick pony, that has been given the undeserved title of serious journalist. The whole hour made me angry especially at Russet, for his lack of control of O’Reilly’s interruptions and rude verbiage. . . Does Russet really believe Bill O’Reilly has one iota of edifying information to contribute to the political debate? Do any of the remarkable astrologers on this site have any astrological information concerning Bill O’Reilly? Just watching his creepy performance tonight set off a deep visceral loathing in me. “I’ve got to go take a shower”. Posted by: KAP on August 8, 2004 08:45 AMKAP, there is a reason people call russert 'pumpkin head'...because he is. of course he's not enough of a person to stand up and point out the obvious; namely that o'liely is a rude blow-hard. he actually interviewed bush for an hour or so without asking a single important question. imagine that. word is he's a little rattled from his grand jury testimony in the plame case. or maybe he got a 'crank yankers' call with al franken's voice (lol). or maybe he got into ann coulter's stash. none of those are an excuse for the behavior in this interview i'm sure any o'liely's astrology will match up with the freudian concept called: reaction formation...you condemn what you are or do because you find youself and the behavior repulsive; you deny the self loathing and attribute it to others. jimmy swagertt, the fundamentalist preacher who covorted (love that word) with prostitutes, is the perfect example. i bet we find out all sorts of really strange stuff about the bloviating, blow-hard, big-mouth from faux central. These supporters - some of whom have raised $200,000 or more for President Bush or the party - are being charged a "convention fee'' this year of up to $4,500 per person for themselves and each guest, according to a Web page run by LogiCom Project Management, the company handling the events and travel arrangements. "A lot of us looked at that thing and said, whoa!'' said Bruce Bialosky of California, who raised $100,000 to become a Pioneer fund-raiser. The story of how the Bush administration prematurely outed Muhammad Naeem Noor Khan, a double agent working for Pakistan against al-Qaeda, has finally hit cable television news. MSNBC picked up the story on Saturday. On Sunday at around 12:30 pm, Wolf Blitzer's show referred to it. New York Senator Charles Schumer criticized the Bush administration for revealing Khan's name. He noted the annoyance of British Home Minister Blunkett (see below) and Pakistani Interior Minister Faisal Saleh Hayat with the Americans for blowing Khan's cover. He said Hayat complained that if Khan's name had not been reveaeled to the New York Times by the Bush administration, he might well have provided information that would have led to the capture of Usamah Bin Laden himself! Blitzer then revealed that he had discussed the Khan case with US National Security Adviser Condaleeza Rice on background. He reported that she had admitted that the Bush administration had in fact revealed Khan's name to the press. She said she did not know if Khan was a double agent working for the Pakistani government. (!!!) More....
