The Unraveling
Sometimes on a warm summer day, one can see a brightly colored balloon rising over the treetops, buffeted by the wind. Having stealthily slipped out of the hands of a sorrowful child below, the balloon rapidly loses itself in the vastness of the cloud-speckled sky, now completely disconnected from the tears it caused on the ground.
To witness a speech by George Bush is a bit like watching that balloon. As he floats blithely along envisioning a fruitful Iraqi garden that needs a bit of pruning and weeding, down below stretches the smoking and festering ground zero created from his devastating ineptitude.
In the alternative universe in which George Bush dwells, a few lowly soldiers committed the degradations and perversions at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. The systemic pervasiveness of an arrogant and brutal disregard for international law is not even on the radar screen. According to the Commander-in-Chief, Iraq will have complete sovereignty as of June 30. Never mind the ongoing presence of the American military and the global corporate profiteers over which that sovereignty will not extend. Bush describes Fallujah as now secured by an all-Iraqi security force, conveniently omitting that it has become a Taliban-like Islamic mini-state, complete with abeyahs required for women and floggings for selling alcohol. The war in Iraq continues to be characterized as the center of the War on Terror, with the opportune omission that it has in fact been a highly successful recruiting ground for terrorists and a magnifier of hatred for America across the globe. The useful confabulation of Iraq and 9/11 persists, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Completely ignored by Mr. Bush is the nationalist flavor of the Iraqi rebellion against an occupying American military mired in a security nightmare and the increasing resentment and distrust of the Iraqi people. Instead, all problems are derived from the “the enemy” or “the terrorists” who “hate our freedom”. The presiding American administration in Bush’s universe is unblemished by miscalculation or mistake.
Nonetheless, in spite of our White House Resident’s preferred reality, a dark cloud is increasingly oppressing the nation. As it settles upon our shoulders, it reeks of impending failure, humiliation, and anxiety. The war is limping along, with ever-changing goals, increasing fatalities, and no end in sight. Gruesome reports of prison abuse have shaken our democratic republic, challenging both our credibility and our deepest sense of identity, while leaving a painful residue of shame. The most recent bombshell is that that Ahmed Chalabi and his entourage, while secretly in alliance with Iran, were feeding our neoconservative government false information about weapons of mass destruction in order to move us to overthrow Saddam and his Baathist regime. These revelations make a complete mockery of an ideologically rigid Bush administration, seen as inebriated by dreams of American hegemony while having been manipulated and suckered by a bunch of Iraqi exiles. There is truly a touch of Cosmic Irony at play when those who have duped and manipulated the masses about almost everything for the past three and half years, including the very reasons for going to war, are themselves now the victims of a colossal con job.
This gloomy, oppressive feeling now enshrouding the nation derives from the growing influence of the planet Saturn in both the US chart and Bush’s chart. Since mid-March 2004, when Saturn turned direct and began its final journey back across the US and Bush’s Sun, soon to be peaking in June 2004, the intractability of the morass in Iraq has become more and more obvious, and the humiliation of Abu Ghraib has only compounded the problem. Bush’s support among the American people has already begun unraveling and will doubtlessly continue doing so, especially through June. The president’s multitude of meetings with foreign leaders planned for that month is likely to go quite poorly, with scant assistance offered to our ailing Iraqi enterprise. In fact, June may well bring some kind of critical mass of failure that irrevocably stamps the Bush administration. The current vise can be expected to tighten to its maximum strength in the next thirty days, and reality in all its harshness will be inescapable.
Besides the transit of Saturn to the Bush and the US natal Sun positions, the tertiary progressions in the US chart for this period provide an indication of even greater stress than a normal Saturn transit might suggest. Tertiary progressions, according to Ron Davison’s Technique of Prediction, are calculated by equating one day for each month in the life of the person whose chart is being considered. This contrasts with the usual one day equated to one year in the more common secondary progressions. By this method of calculation, tertiary progressed Saturn in the US chart moved to oppose the natal US Sun in 2003 and is now in square to its natal place, waxing until November 2004. This progression has never happened before in the US chart and nothing similar will happen again until Saturn reaches the last quarter square to the US Sun in a little under three centuries.
This sense of overwhelming events, profound obstacles, and the need for very cautious and carefully considered goals, as well as the need to compromise significantly, is the signature of Saturn. When this circumscribed and challenging framework is ignored, difficulties grow exponentially. Only a very sober, practical, and guarded agenda is appropriate. Because the Bush/neoconservative plan for Iraq was so grandiose and sweeping, based more on hope and a prayer than on careful planning, it was doomed to failure coming as it did during such a strongly Saturnine period.
The tertiary progressed Saturn aspects in the US chart describe the larger context of 2003 and 2004 as a time when the US would run into severe difficulties due to overreach, hubris, and hunger for power. These lessons are explained by the natal position of US Saturn in the 10th house and square the US Sun. A 10th house Saturn can indicate a rise to great prominence and an intense striving for power, but also a tendency to exaggerated ambition and arrogance that then lead to some kind of failure or significant, humbling setback. Within the larger environment created by these tertiary progressions, the Saturn transit to the US Sun/Saturn square from October 2003 through June 2004 acts not only as an extremely challenging transit in and of itself, but it also triggers the severe difficulties of the two-year tertiary progressed Saturn aspects. Also acting as triggers to this Saturn/Saturn progression are tertiary progressed Mercury which will be conjunct tertiary progressed Saturn from June 1 to June 19 and tertiary progressed US Sun which will be conjunct tertiary progressed Saturn from October 14 to November 14, 2004. Thus, we can expect this entire two year period, and especially June, October, and early November 2004, to bring a crushing humiliation and failure to the US presidency (US Sun) and a significant loss to the prestige of the US in the world due to an ambitious power grab that refused to bend to the reality of global constraints (10th house Saturn). We can further expect a shift away from this trend increasingly after November 2004, as the tertiary progressed Saturn very slowly begins to separate from its square to natal Saturn.
Unfortunately, the disconnection from reality, evasiveness, and deceit of the administration are likely to continue until the 2005 Inauguration, indicated by the ongoing strength of Neptune – square the Inaugural Ascendant, quincunx Bush’s Sun, and quincunx the US Sun. One can only hope that the clash between Saturn’s increasingly harsh reality and Neptune’s denial and avoidance of the facts on the ground don’t lead to a completely dysfunctional government or a collective nervous breakdown within the administration.
Over the coming months, the difficult aspects in George Bush’s chart run parallel with the most challenging aspects in the US chart. While Saturn crosses Bush’s Sun in June, Saturn will also cross the US Sun and square the US Saturn. When Saturn squares Bush’s Midheaven, semisquares his Mars beginning in September, and then moves to conjunct his Saturn in October, it will also conjunct the US Mercury and move very close to opposing US Pluto. When Neptune is quincunx Bush’s Sun from July through November, it will also be quincunx the US Sun. Thus, the significant struggles and misfortunes indicated by these challenging aspects in the collective American psyche will be tied to Bush and his unsuccessful policies.
Interestingly, there are some other aspects that come to the American people during the fall months of 2004 that are not connected to George Bush, but are instead shared with John Kerry through his astrological chart. The most noteworthy is the transit of Uranus that will trine Kerry’s Venus and the US Venus simultaneously from September through December 2004. Another way of looking at this is that the composite Venus in the US/Kerry composite chart will receive an opposition from Uranus during this period, especially during all of September and from November 10th through December 2004. This configuration suggests that Americans will associate Kerry with warm, caring, and positive feelings during the heat of the election campaign and its aftermath. His popularity among the electorate will clearly grow during this time. The first crossing of this aspect in late February and early March 2004 coincided with Kerry’s smashing success in the later primaries that clinched his nomination.
In October, Jupiter will cross the US Midheaven, the Kerry/US composite Midheaven, and the Kerry Midheaven in rapid succession. During the final of these three transits, Jupiter will also simultaneously square the US Jupiter, thus attaching Americans’ feelings of success, optimism, and hope to Kerry in late October 2004. It is noteworthy that Kerry’s natal Jupiter is in exact opposition to the US Moon, which resonates with the people of America. This suggests that in general he will be able to restore hope and optimism to the citizens of this great nation.
The year 2004 will be long remembered as one of the most trying years in America’s history. The War in Iraq that has been plagued by dishonesty and incompetence is likely to increasingly sour the electorate to the continued machinations of the Bush cabal in the Oval Office. Increasing economic difficulties may also surface in the coming months. From my calculations, it seems most probable that John Kerry will win the presidency in November, although his first year in office will not be an easy one. Cleaning up the devastation of four years of the reckless and ill-conceived policies of Bush’s radical agenda will take a great deal of hard work.

Thanks, Jeanie. One thing I left out of the article was that in the Bush/US composite chart, the composite Venus is 27Cancer18, exactly conjunct the Saturn station in October and November. I think this indicates that his popularity will be at an all time low. Such a transit between two individuals suggests severe strain in the relationship. Meanwhile, the US Venus at 3 Cancer, the Kerry Venus at 3 Scorpio, and their composite Venus at 3 Virgo will all be electirifed by Uranus while Bush is in the throws of Saturn.
Oh gawd Nancy, I'm so tired, and this is no time to be tired. The ballon visual is perfect. I have watched him and thought how detatched his words are. I think now of the speech he gave with all the boxes in the background that were suppose to depict the industry of America. All the while the boxes were made in China. I wish it were settled and Kerry was already in place as President, so we can begin the healing. I truly do think he will be a good president, the right person at the right time, for a grateful, wiser U.S. he possibility exits that he may even rise to greatness, especially in contrast to what came before. I do feel sorry for George Bush. I believe that he thinks he is doing the right thing! But it is easier to feel empathy now that his days are numbered.

I don't know Sharon. He took the State of Texas to the second worst State in the nation in almost all categories. Can he walk away thinking he did the right thing? His family regularly raids savings and loans, companies, and global treasuries. Can he possibly think he is doing the right thing?

Absolutely wonderful article, Nancy. I greatly enjoyed it ... well, the parts I could follow, anyway. :-) Tertiary Progressions? Have to find Mr. Dictionary, I guess. But none of that occasional confusion detracted whatsoever from the article and your sharing of your wonderful gift and abilities. So, when Kerry is sharing the Jupiter aspects with the USA, Bush will be sharing the Saturn aspects? Hmmmmm ... sounds to me like the people will be in the mood for a bit more optimism and less "terrorist" talk.

I know what you mean Pat. I guess I see him as a product of his chauvanistic patriotism and chauvanistic religious programing...in denial and a living example of cognitive dissonance. This is what allows his Born-again Christian, Patriotic Republican, and Machavelian personalities to co-exist. I can't help but feel a little sorry for him. The karma he has created by taking on a role he was not up to, and playing it out as a little boy dressed up as a Hollywood hero will dictate his fall from grace and cause him much humiliation and pain. One can only wonder who his true director was (John Ford?) and why he had such adoring and foolish audiences. I guess to teach some of them, at least, to see through the facade. Others will continue to believe that the liberals are just out to get them. But I will wonder for a long time why fate cast George Bush into this role. I guess it's some sort of long-term, Caligular-like karma. Ever hear of Richard II? He was memorialized by Shakespeare as the foolish, immature boy-king who was a total self-serving idiot, manipulated by those around him, who finally fell from grace. The reason I feel sorry for this George is that I think somehow he has been trying to be a good Christian and leader, wanting to rescue us from evil. The destruction little boys wreak is very sad.

Unlike Richard II, I don't believe Shrub will have an awakening like Richard did in Pomfret Castle before death. In Shakespeare's play, Richard, in the beginning, speaks in short bursts, often bossy, totally self-involved and a real pain in the toukas. But as he loses everything and sees his country turn against him, his thoughts and therefor words become more poetic, in fact some of the most beautiful poetry Shakespeare ever wrote! He understands, in the end, that he did this to himself, and that he is to blame for his predicament. I doubt very much that Bush will accept blame for the pain he will endure in the last half of his life. He'll blame the Liberals, the Media, his Administration ... everyone but himself.

Thanks for the wonderfully uplifting (‘scuse the pun) article... Unlike the balloon which is full of hot vapor, your words help clear the air of some of the fears many of us are feeling.
I second Pat’s tiredness... how tired we all are of this horror we are moving through. The last six months seem like years, and the months between now and Inaugural Day seem a lifetime away.

Saturn naturally rules the 10th House, and no planet tests like Saturn. Tertiary progressions are new to me, and I thank you for explaining them for all of us students. One thing that strikes me is we must not lose sight of the fact that Bush is a manifestation of our country... this test for our country would have come regardless of who was in the White House. However, Bush’s natal configurations drew him to this time. The energies that set this failure in place began their movement back as far as at least Nixon... Sally probably has more insight about the particular time frame. This failure had to come IMHO else we would continue our “exaggerated ambition and arrogance” Nancy speaks to above. Perhaps the people need to see how much of a mess there is before Bush leaves, so that they can make him, and not his successor, accountable. And, more importantly, some can come to realize what has brought all this about.
Nancy the image you give is of Saturn demanding retribution. My hope is the people also will be demanding it. As Sally stated a few days ago, collectively we have assistance from the cosmos. This is a trip we’ve not made before. There can be no way of knowing the path. Some institutions may not survive — the press has its own test, and the people don’t need so many filters anymore. As Mike suggested, we don’t need so many leaders anymore either... they need to get to the back of the line and follow us for a change. Facilitators... perhaps that’s what is needed... So, this election can be ‘different’ from others in ways we have yet to imagine. As long as I know Saturn is going to be there on moving day, when Dubya goes — hopefully to prison — I can adjust to what changes are coming... I think...

As an actor, I'm much more excited to perform Richard II than Hamlet or Richard III or any of the other "faves". There's so much there! And, as we can see from this conversation, the truth of the story is so durable, spanning centuries.
The Jupiter aspects Nancy mentioned above got me thinking. I know Jupiter can go overboard a bit sometimes. Is there anything (by aspect) suggesting that the Jupiter Bounce Kerry feels in October (I think it was) will be real and not "anchored" in a misty Neptunian fog? If something were to happen (eg. attack), the people MIGHT turn toward that Saturn figure eg. Bush. But, if he's been beaten to a bloody pulp (sorry ...), he may too hobbled to be a viable choice. Perhaps the Powers that Be in the Repug Party will chuck him overboard for someone they think can win? Hmmmmmmm ...

try a twist on youor scenario "if there were an attack..." --- how 'bout, the people get plenty angry considering we have a breeding place for terrorists in Iraq now... that didn't exist before the invasion... and isn't the Leader supposed to protect us? I'm still angry about 9/11 myself... that was on his watch...
I think that's a good twist on it, Jo. What I was trying to see (and I may have asked this earlier, so my apologies if I'm being repetitive) is if there's anything in the aspects, tertiary progressions, progressions, etc that is the equivalent of a BOOM! in the US chart. If I could understand aspects better, I'd look myself. But math has always scared me. Seriously!

I appreciated the explanation of "tertiary" progressions as I've never understood what that meant. It certainly makes sense if we see time in fractal patterns as well as space. I've always thought the best explanation for why there is anything to astrology (never been able to accept a causal explanation) is the fractal patterning found in nature. Fractal: simultaneity in structure across scale--just as the pattern of pebbles on a beach mirrors the pattern of the whole coastline from space, the pattern of the cycles of our lives mirrors the pattern of the cycles of the solar system. If time is patterned fractally as well, then it makes sense that the pattern in the day mirrors that of the month (tertiary progression) as well as the year (secondary progression).
By the way, just got back from the State Democratic Convention where I was a Kucinich delegate. I think because of the large number of Kucinich delegates (he got more in Hawaii than anywhere else I think), we were able to get quite a slate of progressive resolutions passed including resolutions to "End the Iraq War and Bring Our Troops Home," another to stop the military expansion at Pohakuloa on Mauna Kea, another urging a just policy on Israel and Palestine, and another calling for the Impeachment of the President of the United States!! Yeah!!!
Governor Dean gave quite a powerful keynote address.
Well, it's late in the day, Memorial Day 2004... and all weekend our pResident avoided the subject of our fallen troops in Iraq. Yahoo has this brief bit:
"Through our history, America has gone to war reluctantly because we have known the costs of war. And the war on terror we're fighting today has brought great costs of its own," Bush said.
But he said since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on America, U.S. service men and women have displayed "decency and their brave spirit."
"Because of their fierce courage, America is safer, two terror regimes are gone forever, and more than 50 million souls now live in freedom," Bush declared."

Every day as I travel around the country, I'm thinking about our soldiers in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the world. In times of peace, but especially in times of war, a tour of duty is hard; you spend months away from your family and friends in countries thousands of miles away, performing one of the most dangerous jobs on earth.
In Vietnam, I learned about the promises that soldiers make to each other; the meaning of leadership; the dangers of a government that is not accountable; and the knowledge of what the costs of war are for the individual soldiers, their families, and our country. We can never let politics get in the way of what is best for our troops. We have to always put the life of a private on the battlefield, the sailor on a patrol, or the airman in the belly of a plane first.
We need to make a commitment that we will never leave our veterans behind and must do our part to care for those who have faced the horrors of battle. This is not only about keeping our nation's promises; but about honoring those who defend it.
Our military must be second to none; our troops must be taken care of when sent into harm's way, and when we bring them home, they should be given the respect they're due. My Dad taught me these lessons when he served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

No matter how we feel about our current conflict in Iraq, no matter how critical we are of our efforts to win the peace, this Memorial Day we must have one priority: supporting our troops so they can accomplish their mission and return home as soon as possible. Those who put their lives on the line for their country deserve our support, admiration, and respect.
Today we honor all soldiers past and present who have risked their lives for our country and the values of freedom and liberty we represent. We owe them a debt of gratitude no words can possibly express.

I, too, rec'd the letter from John Kerry, Jo, and read it somewhat critically. I very much appreciate his message yet I was stopped in my tracks somewhat by his statement that we must support the troops "so they can accomplish their mission and return home." I wonder how long he expects that mission to be? Nevertheless, I believe we can trust his judgement. As much as I wish we could stand with Kucinich, I think most of the country agrees that we must at least try to a presence in Iraq to keep order for a while longer. Under Kerry, other nations may help us keep order so that it would be an international presence and not America alone. Sadly, whomever tries to keep order in Iraq will have casualties to contend with. Many, understandably, want us out as soon as possible, but I'll bet the wisest ones realize they will need help to protect against a Taleban like takeover. Under the new U.S. president, they may not resist that help quite so much.
With an TRUE International Coalition, Sharon, the Iraqi Governing Council will be able to do what THEY want to do, which is completely the opposite of what Bush&Co. and their Puppet want to do. An International Body would have the trust of the Iraqi People. But there's no way to get that International co-operation until we have a new administration and the "contracts" awarded to Bush's Buddies are swept clean and distributed among other countries ... and the Iraqis themselves! Kerry can do this. With the help of the able, talented, truly experienced and diplomatically astute Administration he could gather around him, the World would once again move onto the road of trusting us. But not until BelzeeBush is out.

Great posts everyone. I can't comment on them all, but I have read everything and all the posted articles.
Jonathan- I don't think there will be any event that causes people to turn to Bush. On the contrary. I think there will be some difficulties, represented by the Saturn transit to US Mercury beginning in September, that will be blamed on him. He will have Saturn square his MC, semisquare his Mars, and conjunct his natal Saturn. He will have progressed Venus and progressed Jupiter moving into a square with natal Saturn, triggered by the transit of that planet. And he will have his composite (midpoint) Venus with the US chart receiving a conjunction from Saturn. In the last several elections, the one who ended up in the WH, had a huge amount of Venus - the feeling of being loved by people. Kerry's isn't as strong as what I found in Bush in 2000 or Clinton in 1992 and 1996, but it is probably quite sufficient. Bush's Venusian energy, on the other hand, is completely drowned by Saturn. He may seem like a leper by November.

Six Firms Control, Exceed U.S. Oil Leases
Washington - A single New Mexico family and a dozen big oil companies, including one once headed by Commerce Secretary Don Evans, now control one-quarter of all federal lands leased for oil and gas development in the continental United States despite a law intended to prevent such concentration, federal records show.
Since 1997, mainly as a result of mergers and acquisitions, six companies have exceeded the legal limit of 246,080 acres in lease holdings on public lands in states other than Alaska. But the Bureau of Land Management, in charge of enforcing the 1920 law, has chosen to extend compliance deadlines for years.
In fact, an Associated Press computer analysis found the Interior Department agency permitted companies it knew were in violation of the law in Wyoming to continue to acquire thousands of acres of new oil and gas leases in that state. The bureau has given the companies additional years to comply.
"They should not be purchasing leases," said Tom Lonnie, the bureau's assistant director for minerals, realty and resource protection. Before acquiring a lease, a company must certify that its holdings do not exceed the legal limit.
The government can cancel leases held by companies that exceed the cap. Agency officials acknowledge they have never done that nor denied a company's request for more time to comply.
Companies in violation of the state limit as a result of a merger or acquisition have 180 days to comply.
"We try to work with them instead of hitting them with a hammer," said Bob Bennett, the bureau's Wyoming state direct
When Anadarko Petroleum of Houston asked for a two-year extension to get back into compliance after a 2000 merger with Union Pacific Resources put it over the limit in Wyoming, the bureau said yes. That was the case, too, for a 2002 request by Encana Oil and Gas of Canada.
In the first 15 months of Anadarko's extension, the company acquired 70 new leases in Wyoming totaling more than 100,000 acres. A year after granting Encana the extension, the bureau allowed Encana to acquire two new leases totaling more than 2,000 acres in the state.
Anadarko relinquished 50 of its leases to meet a deadline this April 30 to get back under the acreage cap, Lonnie said. Encana has until October to comply. Four other companies that had gone over the cap in Wyoming since 1997 are now in compliance.
Bureau officials say they have to rely on companies to provide accurate accounts of their holdings because the agency's computerized records do not track transfers of lease operating rights or the ownership of divided shares of leases.

Scholars Say Campaign Is Making History With Often-Misleading Attacks
It was a typical week in the life of the Bush reelection machine.
Last Monday in Little Rock, Vice President Cheney said Democratic presidential candidate John F. Kerry "has questioned whether the war on terror is really a war at all" and said the senator from Massachusetts "promised to repeal most of the Bush tax cuts within his first 100 days in office."
On Tuesday, President Bush's campaign began airing an ad saying Kerry would scrap wiretaps that are needed to hunt terrorists.
The same day, the Bush campaign charged in a memo sent to reporters and through surrogates that Kerry wants to raise the gasoline tax by 50 cents.
On Wednesday and Thursday, as Kerry campaigned in Seattle, he was greeted by another Bush ad alleging that Kerry now opposes education changes that he supported in 2001.
The charges were all tough, serious -- and wrong, or at least highly misleading. Kerry did not question the war on terrorism, has proposed repealing tax cuts only for those earning more than $200,000, supports wiretaps, has not endorsed a 50-cent gasoline tax increase in 10 years, and continues to support the education changes, albeit with modifications.
Scholars and political strategists say the ferocious Bush assault on Kerry this spring has been extraordinary, both for the volume of attacks and for the liberties the president and his campaign have taken with the facts. Though stretching the truth is hardly new in a political campaign, they say the volume of negative charges is unprecedented -- both in speeches and in advertising.
Three-quarters of the ads aired by Bush's campaign have been attacks on Kerry. Bush so far has aired 49,050 negative ads in the top 100 markets, or 75 percent of his advertising. Kerry has run 13,336 negative ads -- or 27 percent of his total. The figures were compiled by The Washington Post using data from the Campaign Media Analysis Group of the top 100 U.S. markets. Both campaigns said the figures are accurate.

Jo, a few threads back you mentioned that no matter what you visualize/try there are certain people(s) who drain you and that you need to go off by yourself to “recharge your batteries”. When I read that I went “She’s a Crystal just like me!” [I found out about this through the Kryon books.] Although Nancy Ann Tappe [now her chart I’d love to read] sees auras and is the first one to use the term “Indigo children” back in the ‘80s, she also talked about Crystals who tend to mirror the energy of whomever they are around at the time. Crystals are natural healers who want everything to be pretty, clean, gentle and quiet. Pamela Oslie has a more thorough description in the book “Life Colors”. One way to protect yourself, or get other peoples’ junk out of your aura, is found in the book “Change Your Aura, Change Your Life” by Barbara Y Martin, and is called “Closing the Psychic Door”. It is located behind the right ear and looks like a blue flap when it is open. You want to keep this door shut so only good thoughts can enter. Having a stiff neck or feeling that someone is a “pain in the neck,” can be a sign that your door may be open. Place your right index and third fingers behind your right ear over the psychic door and envision a golden angel in the center of your head. Tom Delay looks like he is in the driver's seat in January and February 2005. Jupiter will be opposite his Sun. In addition, his tertiary progressed Uranus moves into a square with natal Mars from 11/04 to 3/08. And, if that isn't enough, converse progressed Mars (like secondary progressions, but counting backward instead of forward from birth - Timothy are you there?) has been opposite converse progressed Pluto since 12/03 and going through 3/05. Then it opposes natal Pluto from 3/05 to 7/06. This man will be playing hardball, and I see very little holding him back. The only very slim hope I have is that I don't have his birth time, so maybe Saturn will be stationary on an angle somewhere. But barring that, he controls the House for the duration.
Frist's chart is not as clear at all. The birth time here would really help since the noon Moon position is opposite transiting Saturn. Born any time from midnight to 1:30 PM, he would have Saturn opposing his Moon at some point between September and February. He also has Uranus stationary on his Sun and Mercury from September through December. If Saturn is also opposite his Moon during this time, it could mean an unexpected loss for him. But he could lose the leadership of the party and the party could still retain its power. I am very cautiously optimistic looking at his chart, far more so than when looking at Delay's. Frist also has the Saturn station from February to April square his Neptune, which could rain on his parade somewhat. I wish we had a birth time.

On a tip from Josh Marshall, I compared John Kerry's website to Bu$h's website. It's a really interesting diversion. I noticed that on Bu$h's website it appears that he is morphing into the Marlboro Man (all he's missing is the cigarette.) I'm wondering why they don't just put flashing "New and Improved" or "Keeps your Whites White" stickers all over.
Again and again it seems to me that the Bu$h strategy isn't so much to make people like or support him so much as it's designed to sicken people on the subject of politics altogether. Most people I know won't touch politics with a ten foot pole. We truly are reaping what we have sown, thanks to Old Man Saturn.

I am very hopeful about Sen. Kerry winning. The more I learn of him the more I think he fits the phrase "Still waters run deep".
He's been using the phrase "Let America be America Again" in his speeches, which is the title of an incredible Langston Hughes poem. I hope it sticks. The poem is very deep, and I love that Hughes was a 1930s-era socialist. So while Kerry is speaking to the moderates, I just feel his ideals are truely progressive:

One after another, the Generals, most of whom are well respected and retired, as well as others who are not retired but in sotto voce, are speaking out against the policies of this administration and especially the resident.
I don't recall this ever having happened before (except for McArthur and Patton during WW2 and they weren't attacking Roosevelt but squabbling with Ike over the direction and strategy and who would lead the army ).
These men, who are not the tv hired Generals come pundits, rarely speak out and certainly not publicly nor unanimously in their condemnation of the resident as they do now.
And we need to wonder who is their message for?
Us? I don't think so.
I suspect something is brewing at the highest levels of the military and these old soldiers are encouraging such action, encouraging and affirming their stamp of approval.
Astrologically, there is so much Mars occurring in the charts, that it would be difficult to say
whether we are looking at more war and attacks or
at an internal military coup.
A lot of folks seem to think that there's going to be a military coup or the imposing of martial law. Do people have specific dates in mind? I mark my calendar with significant astrological events, and there definitely seems to be a lot of upheaval this summer, both for the country plus a few major events for myself as well. Any information about the planets that are in play would be of use (to all of us).

Let me just say from the outset that the Federal Reserve has confirmed our Stock Market Crash forecast by raising the Money Supply (M-3) by crisis proportions, up another 46.8 billion this past week. What awful calamity do they see? Something is up. This is unprecedented, unheard-of pre-catastrophe M-3 expansion. M-3 is up an amount that we've never seen before without a crisis - $155 billion over the past 4 weeks, a $2.0 trillion annualized pace, a 22.2 percent annualized rate of growth!!! There must be a crisis of historic proportions coming, and the Federal Reserve Bank of the United States is making sure that there is enough liquidity in place to protect our nation's fragile financial system. The amazing thing is, the Fed's actions mean they know what is about to happen. They are aware of a terrible, horrific imminent event. What could it be?
One can draw no other conclusion except that the Fed is acting irresponsibly in its managing the money supply, in fulfilling its duty to "maintain a stable currency." I reject the notion that the Fed is acting irresponsibly. No, something is up, bigger than we have ever seen in the history of the United States. Let me ramble. Perhaps they simply see the ominous technical landscape we have been warning about in recent issues, and are attempting to pull out all the stops to avert the predicted crash. The recent rally in just about everything is similar to 2003's market behavior when the Fed pumped massive amounts of liquidity into the system during the first half of the year. This time seems different. The amount of liquidity is too large. The Fed is deflating the value of the monetary base by a fifth! Why are they willing to do this? Wisdom says something bad is up - big time.

Now Soros, a storied financial and political speculator, says another of his bets is about to pay off: more than $15 million against President Bush.
The Hungarian-born billionaire, who had vowed to spend more if necessary to deny the president re-election, says he's contributed enough to achieve his goal. "There probably will be some further contributions, but I don't expect any substantial increase," he says in an interview. "Large numbers of people are beginning to see the Bush administration in the same light as I do. Frankly, I don't think I'll need to do a lot more. ... I now take the defeat of Bush more or less for granted."
Soros is used to winning — in finance (he's worth about $7 billion) and in politics. He did more than any other private individual to support the emergence of democracy in Eastern Europe and has bankrolled liberal causes around the world. I’m talking about the real, behind-the-scenes plan. In the battles for the Sunni town of Falluja and the Shiite cities south of Baghdad, the Bush administration has essentially capitulated—hoping to reduce, until the U.S. election is over, images of fighting, mayhem and U.S. blood streaming to the American public.
In Falluja, the U.S. military has withdrawn its forces, and the town is being run by anti-U.S. guerrillas and a former general from Saddam Hussein’s regime. Similarly, the United States has agreed to pull out most of its forces from towns in the south and allow the rebellious militias of Moktada al-Sadr to remain armed and intact. The U.S. military has also agreed to suspend its arrest warrant for al-Sadr (there is even talk of offering this “villain” or his supporters a place in the interim government, which will be instituted on June 30). This most recent Bush administration flip-flop is a far cry from earlier boasts to “kill or capture” al-Sadr and “destroy” his militia. In fact, in an implicit admission that a unified and democratic Iraq will never happen, the United States has elected to avoid the risk of disarming the many armies and militias all over the country."

?ast week The Washington Post got hold of an Office of Management and Budget memo that directed federal agencies to prepare for post-election cuts in programs that George Bush has been touting on the campaign trail. These include nutrition for women, infants and children; Head Start; and homeland security. The numbers match those on a computer printout leaked earlier this year — one that administration officials claimed did not reflect policy.
Beyond the routine mendacity, the case of the leaked memo points us to a larger truth: whatever they may say in public, administration officials know that sustaining Mr. Bush's tax cuts will require large cuts in popular government programs. And for the vast majority of Americans, the losses from these cuts will outweigh any gains from lower taxes.
It has long been clear that the Bush administration's claim that it can simultaneously pursue war, large tax cuts and a "compassionate" agenda doesn't add up. Now we have direct confirmation that the White House is engaged in bait and switch, that it intends to pursue a not at all compassionate agenda after this year's election.
That agenda is to impose Dooh Nibor economics — Robin Hood in reverse. The end result of current policies will be a large-scale transfer of income from the middle class to the very affluent, in which about 80 percent of the population will lose and the bulk of the gains will go to people with incomes of more than $200,000 per year.
I can't back that assertion with official numbers, because under Mr. Bush the Treasury Department has stopped releasing information on the distribution of tax cuts by income level. Estimates by the Urban Institute-Brookings Institution Tax Policy Center, which now provides the numbers the administration doesn't want you to know, reveal why. This year, the average tax reduction per family due to Bush-era cuts was $1,448. But this average reflects huge cuts for a few affluent families, with most families receiving much less (which helps explain why most people, according to polls, don't believe their taxes have been cut). In fact, the 257,000 taxpayers with incomes of more than $1 million received a bigger combined tax cut than the 85 million taxpayers who make up the bottom 60 percent of the population.

BTW just read Astro Insight and they are saying tPluto opposite Bush's nUranus will be devastating in June. tPluto opposed my nUranus about 20 years ago. That year my wonderful supportive loving mother-in-law died, but she was 84 and had been in good health until the last. The rest of my life was going well, self-employed enjoying it and making a good living. Of course, I had some good aspects going, too. Just wondering if you have any comment on the tPluto opp n Uranus aspect?

Barbara, I have also had TPluto oppose Uranus and it depends on what other aspects you might have to Uranus. Transiting Pluto oppose Uranus is a generational aspect, I've found in my practice that it often means a change of career, or a shift in ones career, even if that career has been a mom. It's more the TPluto conj. his south node that could be problematic for him.
Barbara - I don't see Pluto opposite Uranus by itself as much, unless it is also hitting more personal points. Bush already had the transit of Pluto opp his Uranus in 2003 when the progressed MC was exactly conjunct Uranus. It was a pretty wild year, but is now past. But he does have the prog MC on his Node right now, normally a good progression with high honors. Unfortunately for him, Pluto is stationary on the South Node at the same time, bringing all kinds of problems created by his reckless, gambling instincts to light.
Vis - I think we will see tremendous problems financially through 2005. I am concerned about that Saturn transit to US 8th house Mercury, the house of investments, other people's money. Suppose other people take their money away and invest in euros? Suppose oil (hidden wealth of the 8th house) becomes more scarce leading to a Market crash? Etc. The possiblities are endless, but I am concerned about that transit that spreads from 9/04 to 5/05. Also US prog Venus will be square natal Saturn in 2005, probably causing some difficulties getting our act together. I am hoping the economy will show some firmer strength in 2006. The coming year could be rocky. In the near term, the transit of Saturn to the US Sun, in the 8th house by the Koch method of houses, could also bring some short term difficulties.
I was speaking to a good friend last night about her brother, who is back after serving in Iraq. She said he's very, very confused right now. He got quite a bit of "college money" given to him by the government for serving but he feels very guilty about taking it. He's not sure if he should buy a car, go to school or what, he's even wondering if he should re-enlist. I cannot imagine the sort of disorientation our soldiers must be experiencing coming back here after their tour. She told him not to re-enlist, but I suppose if there's a draft he'll be one of the first ones to go right back.
The article from safehaven is quite intriguing. It reminds me of the insider trading that was done in the airline companies just before September 11th, which is a clear sign that the "terrorist attacks" were anticipated. What does Wall Street know that we don't?

To the unnamed poster that gave the link to the Guardian article about the draft: I went to the U.S. House and Senate website and looked up the info in the article. I got an invalid bill number on both bills mentioned. Did a search for selective service and found nothing on the Senate site elated to reinstating the draft. The URL mentioned in the article was invalid as well. I don't know where they are getting their info but I think we should definitely question their research. I have no doubt that "they" will try to impose the draft on us again but does it help when a newspaper article gives bogus info? I never read the Guardian until I came to this board. What is their reputation for accuracy?

If you're a worker who counts on overtime to make ends meet, the White House and Congressional Republicans have some news for you. Your boss may still make you work overtime hours, but don't count on getting overtime wages.
On May 12, House Republicans narrowly blocked a vote on whether to amend President Bush's new overtime rules and effectively cancel any measures that would take away rights to overtime pay. Although the Senate approved a similar amendment proposed by Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA), without House support, the Department of Labor will adopt Bush's new rules in August. Under the new rules, millions of workers could find they are no longer eligible for overtime pay.
Stripping workers of their overtime pay is a bold move for the President to make in an election year, particularly when the race will likely be won in union-dense, blue-collar states like Ohio. Perhaps Bush, with a level of class consciousness that makes Marie Antoinette look like Mother Jones, doesn't realize how many working families actually depend on their overtime pay to afford daily necessities.
Or maybe he's just depending on the press not to question Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao's Orwellian rhetoric about "strengthening overtime protections," while simply countering it with AFL-CIO statements on the matter – when they even report on the issue at all.
This has been the modus operandi for most reporters covering this issue. On the day of the blocked House vote and on the following day, a search on Lexis-Nexis indicates that the AP ran one story, and only five papers ran brief reports covering the GOP's bitch slap to working America. The New York Times and Washington Post were silent.
This lack of information, or perpetuation of disinformation, works out great for Bush & Co. The overtime issue, according to focus group research being done by labor unions (yes – I see the irony), is one of the most incendiary for union-member swing voters. A true understanding of this measure could really spell trouble for the President in November.
Fortunately, Ross Eisenbrey at the Economic Policy Institute has done some good (although not highly publicized) analysis of the new overtime rules. Unfortunately, that analysis indicates that, if enacted, the rules may be far more harmful to working people than even the labor movement has been saying. The rules will not only take hard-earned money away from workers, but may create yet another obstacle for them to organize and demand rights on their own terms.
Bush's plan hinges on the concept of job "reclassification." The new rules expand the number of workers who have too much supposed "managerial authority" to receive overtime, giving companies the ability to move their employees up the ladder of success – but in name only.

It is an ancient debating technique: Caricature your opponent's argument, then knock down the straw man you created. In the 2004 campaign, Bush has been knocking down such phantoms on subjects from Iraq to free trade.

I just got back from seeing John Kerry at one his campaign stops at St. Pete/Clearwater FL Airport. Kerry was not my favorite (Dean was), but this guy is growing on me. I liked the way he looked in person. He seems very strong and sure of himself and, best of all, he seems very comfortable in his own skin. He has a kind way about him and I am beginning to trust his judgment. His speech was magnificent; it is quite different seeing it in person of course.

Howard Dean Starts Syndicated Column
The first piece by the former Democratic presidential candidate and Vermont governor appeared yesterday. In it, Dean called for electronic voting to be shelved until 2006 or until it's "reliable and will allow recounts."
Syndicate founder Daryl Cagle told E&P he contacted Dean through a mutual friend. One reason why Dean agreed to write the column was his interest in CC's reach -- more than 600 newspapers subscribe to the service in English. All clients get all of CC's features, and then decide which ones to publish.
Cagle said he doesn't yet know how many of the 600-plus papers will run Dean, who founded the Democracy for America political action committee after leaving the presidential race. But Cagle did note that a number of CC clients had asked for a liberal columnist to go along with the syndicate's two more conservative writers -- talk-radio host and presidential son Michael Reagan and former Clinton-administration advisor and Fox News analyst Dick Morris.

My mother always told me that astrology was a great salve during times of trouble, because it allows one to see light at the ends of tunnels that can take years to crawl through. Politically, we've been crawling through this one since at least 1980. Time to draw another long deep breath and meditate on that goal for another few years.

a troubling thought that has been encouraged by the timeline on your website (although other articles i've read have also at times suggested this could be possiable).
On that timeline at Nov. 2002 you predict the Dems. retain the senate. In the end it was a squeaker but the repub. took control. My nagging thought has been that the 2002 election (esp. in Georgia, florida and few other states) was not all together on the up and up.
My fear is now for 2004 election
What do you see as the chances that this coming election could be stolen.

I could see the publics anger at an apparent thieft being directed at Bush but seeming less clear and easier to get away with at the House level (the anger being diffused by each districts preceptions of what happened only in there district) Delay I don't think would care in the least if he came by his power through deception. Frist might, at least some what.
Or in brief, nancy, do your readings of all these various charts (you are so great at weaving them all together) give you any sense of how honest this coming election might be? And any indication if it will leave the nation in termoil for a peroid of time as did the elections of 2002?

[..] We knew that 15 out of 19 hijackers were Saudis. We knew that Osama bin Laden, a Saudi, was behind the Sept. 11 attacks. Yet America did not conduct a police-style investigation of the departing Saudis, of whom two dozen were members of the bin Laden family. That is not to say that they were complicit in the attacks.
Unfortunately, though, we may never know the real story. The investigative panel has already concluded that there is "no credible evidence that any chartered flights of Saudi Arabian nationals departed the United States before the reopening of national airspace." But the real point is that there were still some restrictions on American airspace when the Saudi flights began.
In addition, new evidence shows that the evacuation involved more than the departure of 142 Saudis on six charter flights that the commission is investigating. According to newly released documents, 160 Saudis left the United States on 55 flights immediately after Sept. 11 - making a total of about 300 people who left with the apparent approval of the Bush administration, far more than has been reported before.
The records were released by the Department of Homeland Security in response to a Freedom of Information Act request filed by Judicial Watch, a conservative, nonpartisan watchdog group in Washington.
The vast majority of the newly disclosed flights were commercial airline flights, not charters, often carrying just two or three Saudi passengers. They originated from more than 20 cities, including Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit and Houston. One Saudi Arabian Airlines flight left Kennedy Airport on Sept. 13 with 46 Saudis. The next day, another Saudi Arabian Airlines flight left with 13 Saudis.
The panel has indicated that it has yet to find any evidence that the FBI checked the manifests of departing flights against its terror watch list. The departures of additional Saudis raise more questions for the panel. ...[..]

An A-Z of the Iraq war and its aftermath, focusing on misrepresentation, manipulation, and mistakes.
A Mohammed Atta. The Bush administration claimed that a meeting between the lead hijacker of the 11 September attacks and a senior Iraqi intelligence officer proved a connection between al-Qa'ida and Saddam Hussein. But there is no evidence such a meeting took place.
B Bush and Blair: The two leaders have reacted strongly to all suggestions they misled their respective electorates over the war, and maintain time will prove they were right to go to war. Both, though, are suffering poll difficulties, as problems in Iraq become worse, and each needs speedy improvement to shore up his position.
C Ahmed Chalabi. The leader of the Iraq National Congress, who is a member of the Iraq Governing Council, is now accused of having duped the Bush administration, as well as the media, into believing that Saddam Hussein represented a direct threat to US and British security.
D Dollars. Between 1992 and the US raid on Ahmed Chalabi's home last week, the US government channelled more than $100m (£55m) to his Iraqi National Congress. The money may have been a motivating factor for defectors to say what they thought the Americans wanted to hear. That funding has now been stopped.

Pam Butler: Hi and thanks for your post above. I read it with much concern. I do not want to give the impression that I am discounting or invalidating anything Nancy has posted here about Tom Delay as I believe what she is saying is true and accurate. What concerns me is his recent past astrology and what dirty dealings he has undertaken in the past several years that may catch up with him. Did you know that early in the spring he held a meeting to discuss his replacement should he be found quilty of mishandling political funds from the Republican Party? It was reported on NPR and I'm sure you can find old articles on google if interested. Next to Dick Cheney, I personally feel Tom Delay is the most vile of all. Nothing may come of this particular investigation but he has so many other misdeeds in his past I am hoping that his day of reckoning is soon. But like Bush and Cheney, he has been able to cover up. If the American people are waking up to Bush why aren't they waking up to DeLay..I wonder?
Pam - The way I predict about elections is based on how it seems people will feel during the time. Usually, if someone looks unhappy and burdened (Saturn) I predict they will lose. If they seem to feel loved and successful (Venus and Jupiter), I predict they will win. When someone runs for president, it usually is the center of his/her life. Running for Congress isn't quite as intense. Someone who I predicted would win in the Senate, lost, but got married a few days later. Hence the strong Venus was there (feeling loved) but had nothing to do with the campaign.
Bush looks increasingly burdened, unhappy, and stuck over the next months. He does not look happy. He does not look loved. Venus is thwarted in several ways as we get to the election. Kerry has some strong Venus energy in September and October, and intensifiying after 11/10. I see nothing that makes him look unhappy or feeling a failure. The only way my prediction wouldn't hold, I think (hope), would be if Bush really doesn't want to be president anymore but wins anyway. Unless of course he calls off the election and then all bets are off, but I doubt even he could do something that radical unless we get nuked on 11/1 which I don't see any indication of.
So to say we lose becasue they cheated and so the prediction wouldn't work doesn't make sense. Even if they cheat, the loser would look miserable about it, I would think. Gore had Saturn stiing on his 10th house Venus for a few months after the last election Coup.
