Bush's Last Hurrah
After three years of being marginalized, out-maneuvered, and simply laid flat by the Pennsylvania Avenue bully boys, Democrats are delighted to see the Chief Thug of Washington's political streets battered, bruised, and on the defensive. The combination of a largely united and well-publicized assault by the Democratic primary candidates, as well as several hard, right punches to the chin by victorious nominee Senator John "Street Fighter" Kerry, has served to destroy the myth of Bush's invincibility. Moreover, generally mounting and obvious incompetence and dishonesty by the Commander-in-Chief himself has thrown the White House reelection campaign wildly off its political stride. Even Republican leaders are squirming at the recent avalanche of ineptitude and obvious deceit streaming out of the White House. It seems that every step Bush takes to garner support leaves him with a black eye instead. Like trying to minimize damage from a leaky roof in a storm, the Bush Bumblers run from one misstep to another, clarifying, backtracking, and mumbling. The State of the Union was a flop. The proposed Lunar colony and Mars voyage were quickly vaporized. The Meet the Press interview was an embarrassment. The Constitutional amendment against gay marriage was dead on arrival in a Republican Congress. The first campaign ads celebrating Bush's war heroism were deemed offensive and in poor taste. And the newly appointed job czar was quickly recalled when it was discovered that his business success came from outsourcing jobs to China. In a world of rapidly cycling news, the last two months have seemed like an eternity of disasters for the Bush political machine. Although the Lunar metropolis nonsense came in mid-January, the real downward trend began with the State of the Union speech on January 20, as Neptune began a series of transits that augmented the deceptive, evasive, self-deluding, confused, and weak traits inherent, but often hidden, in this administration. In succession, Neptune was quincunx the US Sun and then Bush's Sun, thereafter moving into a square with the Inaugural Ascendant where its strength waxes through April 1, 2004. In late May, the succession of debilitating Neptune transits will intensify again in impact through August, returning for their final thrust in late October 2004 through January 2005. As mentioned in a previous article, the Bush administration's dishonesty and disconnect with reality are painfully telescoped for the world to see when the harsh lessons of Saturn coincide with the self-deception and obfuscation of Neptune. During the current period from late January through March 23, 2004, we are witnessing such a combination. Saturn's station sits in an exact semisquare to Bush's natal Venus, the planet that, when unimpeded by restrictive Saturn, creates an aura of charm and attraction. Needless to say, this transit, like a bucket of ice water, has signaled a diminishment of Bush's popular appeal and an increase in unflattering media scrutiny of his unsuccessful policies and purposeful distortions. The striking thing about April and May 2004 is the confluence of Jupiter aspects in both Bush's chart and the US chart. Contrary to the mood of failure in February and March, these suggest optimism, expansion, and success. Saturn's more restrictive energy will move to the background from late March until June 1. In addition to the increase in Jupiter's more uplifting tone, Pluto's opposition to US Mars will go back into high gear from March 24 through May 25, 2004. This combination of Jupiter, Pluto, and Mars suggests a time of increased military confrontation or aggressive tactics that, on the whole, are successful and bolster the US mood and the president's popularity. One possibility is that Osama will be captured during this period. I don't see any other time during Bush's term, astrologically speaking, when this seems likely. The relevant Jupiter aspects are: transiting Jupiter station conjunct Bush's Mars/progressed Sun (4/4 to 5/22); progressed US Moon conjunct natal Jupiter (4/12 to 5/12); transiting Jupiter station square US Uranus (4/8 to 5/9). The Pluto transit opposite US Mars (21Gemini23) actually covers the period from January through November 2004 and brings with it an increased agitation within the country, as well as an intensification of aggressive, war-related activities in foreign policy. Escalating power struggles with enemies are also included within this transit. From April 22 through May 5, 2004, this aspect will receive some very strong triggering from several planets suggesting quite unstable and disruptive events. This two-week period begins with a transit of Mars conjunct US Mars and opposite transiting Pluto from April 22 through 24, implying a burst of some kind of violence that impacts American interests somewhere in the world. The Mercury station (21 Aries), which lasts from April 23 through May 5 will be trine Pluto, augmenting the Plutonian qualities of fear, paranoia, and power struggle, but also bringing a feeling of stuckness and potential slowdowns or immobilization in the areas of transportation and communication. Also stimulating the US Mars/Pluto aspect are: the Sun, which will be semisquare US Mars on April 25 and 26, and Venus, which will be conjunct US Mars on April 29 through May 1. It is important to note that the recent coordinated and brutal terrorist bombings in Madrid came during a Sun/Pluto square. The coming Mars/Pluto opposition on April 22 through 24 will be in much closer orb with US Mars and suggests a significant aftermath due to the prolonged Mercury station, trine Pluto, which follows. What exactly it will bring is anyone's guess. Despite these likely dramatic events in later April, Bush's popularity will get a decided boost from the Jupiter station that sits on his Mars from April 4 through May 22. It may be that these events distract the citizenry from the extraordinary melange of lies, distortions, and failed policies that currently swirl around the White House and instead focus the camera lens on the image of Bush as war leader. Another possibility would be some significantly improved economic trends emerge. However it unfolds, Bush will benefit from this balmy breeze until the winds shift yet again in late May. At this point, the Oval Office Commando Squad will begin to feel a gathering storm on the horizon. As the generally successful Jupiter energy departs around May 22nd, there will be a waxing of the Inaugural progressed Moon semisquare to natal Pluto, which suggests mounting tension and anxiety in the White House through mid-June. This may not be apparent to the public until June, but the administration will be already stressing over and attempting to conceal something fairly significant by late May. In addition, due to its retrograde motion, Neptune will move back to a waxing square with the Inaugural Ascendant around mid-May, beginning three and a half months of Neptunian deceptiveness, evasiveness, deceit, and ineptitude. Once Saturn comes into orb with the US Sun on June 2nd, these issues will begin to come under public scrutiny, and the administration will be increasingly assaulted with criticism and condemnation from all sides. The fallout from this transit, which goes to mid-June, will then seep into the national dialogue through July as evidenced by a series of Saturn transits that hit the administration almost continuously during June and July 2004. Bush's popularity and credibility are likely to plunge around this time. The final blow to an already crippled administration will come in early September 2004, when Saturn begins its nine-month transit square Bush's Midheaven, semisquare his Mars, and conjunct the US 8th house Mercury. The initial acute phase of this transit will be during the first 10 days of September when we are likely to see some profound exacerbation of problems in the area of currency and investment, as well as related employment and foreign policy issues. These difficulties will seriously impact the nation at least through June 2005. Moreover, they will cloak Mr. Bush's presidency with an aura of failure and broken promises that diminish his stature considerably. During the final months of 2004, the grandiose dreams of Bushworld will dissipate into the unforgiving mists of history.

YAY!!! I'm first :) Gosh Nancy, you work so hard. It continuously astounds me to see all you put into your articles, one after another. Thank you. Why does Neptune deception characterize this administration so much? I have always felt a strong pull from Uranus transits, and am curious about the indicators of the strength of certain planets over others. I think it's time to hunker down & put on the ole seatbelt, sounds like a long bumpy ride this year, lol. Please continue to enlighten us with your incredible abilities, it does SO help to see what's comin', and you have a proven, inspirational track record. Posted by: Isabelle on March 17, 2004 03:59 AM"Why does Neptune deception characterize this administration so much?" Because it is so strong in the natal chart of the Inaugural and Bush's chart. The Inaugural has a Sun Neptune conjunction and a Neptune Ascendant square (currently in full flower). Bush has a 12th house Sun and Saturn, and Neptune square the Sun, and within 10 degrees of the Moon. Plus during his term he has had Neptune conjunct the Descendant, opposite Mercury, opposite Pluto and now quincunx the Sun. 4 years in outer space. Posted by: Nancy on March 17, 2004 04:29 AMAfter all the brilliance on display here, it's frustrating to bring up such lesser lights, but stariq is now suggesting that Condi Rice has a wonderful future. That's fine, of course, just so long as it's on another planet. Posted by: shylurker on March 17, 2004 04:33 AMThank you so much for providing these powerful and important insights...it keeps us going just knowing that "things" are operating at another level and all is not as grim as the media pundits! What will be happening to Kerry during these ups and downs? Will he also experience a bumpy ride until the November election? Again, thank you! Posted by: nobushbuckeye on March 17, 2004 04:37 AMBush is a lucky piece. On 11/2, the Sun makes it's annual conjunct to his Point of Fortune, no doubt, he's always got something up his sleeve. Did you read about Sedna? Fascinating stuff, discovered on 11/14/03, the day Kerry dropped public financing, which is the main reason he won, so there's a rich connection going on. No placement yet on the chart, that I could find on the net. Posted by: Vis on March 17, 2004 05:42 AMShylurker, I took a look at Stariq and Condi Rice; first of all I don't think Dubya will drop Cheney --- who would pull Dubya's strings if cheney were gone? As for Condi being astrologically prime for VP or actually President... stariq is really reaching... with a natal mars square saturn? I'm only a student, but I thought squares present challenges! this one in particular would be more indicative of some kind of frustration in career area... or relate to an austere disposition... and with the Neptune aspect to the US MC coinciding with her natal square, why that simply means more of that "Neptune deception" Nancy was addressing above! If you want a political take on her chances, go to blackcommentator.com and read what they have to say about her... they tell their readership they don't believe Rice, or Powell for that matter, should ever again be invited to even speak before a black audience after their lies to the Black Congressional Caucus about Haiti and Aristide... And lastly, I've read several places that both she and Powell will be leaving the Administration after November whether Dubya wins or not. Nancy, thank you for the wonderful article... so insightful, and 'feisty' --- I particularly like the last words "...the grandiose dreams of Bushworld will dissipate into the unforgiving mists of history." I usually strive to live in the NOW, but I wish it were November! Posted by: Jo on March 17, 2004 06:07 AMI was just looking at Kerry's chart and the 2005 innagural chart. A couple of striking things I noticed. Mars, in the 8th, is waxing within a degree of Kerry's Sun-- that's an early transit. And I've already mentioned how potent Mars is for Kerry, with his natal Rx and subsequent station and then crossing over the natal during 2004-2006. Put in the 8th, ugh. Also, Chiron in Kerry's chart is conjunct his MH. Not one you'd think of as being chironic, but with the placement of the innagural of Chiron on the MH as well, it's significant. Mostly, because this forms the T-square for Kerry's Sun and Moon. In the Fall and Winter of 2005, Kerry's progressed Moon will conjunct his Chiron, and trigger the square. Alongside this, heading into 2005 for a longstanding aspect, Kerry's Saturn will be oppossed by transiting Pluto, and by the latter part of 2005, Kerry's Pluto will be conjuncted by transiting Saturn. These are not the type of aspects that bring cheer and joy into one's life. They do suggest power though, but with Chiron involved, is it the absence of it, or the inability to use it? I just don't see the masses choosing Kerry's future for their own. It's terribly dark, and suggests a Saturnian fortitude unheard of in these times for a US President, given this country's penchant for avoiding tough medicine at any cost. It's also got a continuation of blood and war in it. However, there's not much in Bush's chart to suggest his winning either, except for that an election day conjunction that I noted in an earlier repsonse to Nancy's post. The Venus/Jupiter conjunction that surrounds Bush's Neptune is in his progressed first house, not his natal, which I failed to point out. Though Republicans excel on election day Neptune juice, this has a 45 semi-square to the Natal first house Venus, so it could be the real nail that the media splinters into Bush's ego, or it could be their co-opting into his sleight of hand. I know his vedic chart shows continuation of his current themes through 2006, and then a big change. That probably breaks the end of this war, regardless of who wins (though the 2008 election looks like more of the same-- or at least the final effort over the same drawn battlelines). Claudia posted Teresa's chart, if anyone hasn't seen it yet: Also, it's worth noting, that Quaoar is begining it's transit over the USA chart. The Madrid bombing, which has been referred to as Europe's 9/11, comes about the second of the four TNO's that are moving over the USA's ascendent. These planets have heralded the advent of mixing politics and religion, fanantisicm, and other such nonsense extremism. Ixion was first, in 1993, yea, the Republican Revolution, also the beginning of India's Hindu extremism. Pluto was next, with 9/11. Quaoa and Ixion to follow within this decade. We'll have to see where Sedna puts up. So anyway, we here the fanatics now getting to the point where their "for us or against us" speel turns into the asinine claim that when their opponents win, so do terrorists. In truth, the fanantics are all in this together, and don't spend too much time tuning into their story. There's better one's worth playing. Posted by: Vis on March 17, 2004 07:06 AMThank you, Vis. Kerry is a hundred, a thousand times better than Bush. I have an uneasy feeling about Kerry too. It's not a popular or welcomed sentiment on any level. It's important to rally around the nominee and to be aware of possible pitfalls. I keep feeling like China is crouching tiger in our midsts that people are slightly aware of but unwilling to address directly. They own much of our notes and have been steadily increasing their arms. Posted by: Cass on March 17, 2004 10:26 AMWith Chiron on Kerry's MC & on the Inaugural chart MC as well, doesn't that signify a healing for the country? Of course there's a T sq. and Saturn aspect involved. Cleaning up Washington after 16 years of these thugs, is not going to be joyous! The man is signing on to purgatory in running for President! Nancy, again, beautiful article! I'm particularly fond of this. "The final blow to an already crippled administration will come in early September 2004, when Saturn begins its nine-month transit square Bush's Midheaven, semisquare his Mars, and conjunct the US 8th house Mercury. I asked a dozen people last week—some intimate with the commission's thinking, some members of the intelligence community, some members of Congress who have investigated 9/11—what they would ask the President if they could. Their questions fell into three broad categories. Why didn't you respond to the al-Qaeda attack on the U.S.S. Cole? The attack occurred on Oct. 12, 2000; 17 American sailors were killed. The Clinton Administration wanted to declare war on al-Qaeda. An aggressive military response was prepared, including special-forces attacks on al-Qaeda training camps in Afghanistan. But Clinton decided that it was inappropriate to take such dramatic action during the transition to the Bush presidency. As first reported in this magazine in 2002, Clinton National Security Adviser Sandy Berger and counterterrorism deputy Richard Clarke presented their plan to Condoleezza Rice and her staff in the first week of January 2001. Berger believed al-Qaeda was the greatest threat facing the U.S. as Clinton left office. Rice thought China was. What were President Bush's priorities? Was he aware of the Berger briefing? Did he consider an aggressive response to the bombing of the Cole or to the al-Qaeda millennium plot directed at Los Angeles International Airport—which was foiled on Dec. 14, 1999? Did he have any al-Qaeda strategy at all? Rice, who has not yet testified under oath, decided to review counterterrorism policy; the review wasn't completed until Sept. 4. A related question along the same lines: Why didn't you deploy the armed Predator drones in Afghanistan? The technology, which might have provided the clearest shot at Osama bin Laden before 9/11, was available early in 2001. But the CIA and the Pentagon squabbled about which agency would be in charge of pulling the trigger. The dispute wasn't resolved until after 9/11. Were you aware of this dispute, Mr. President? Why weren't you able to resolve it? More... http://www.time.com/time/election2004/columnist/klein/article/0,18471,600843,00.html I just want to comment on Vis' post above that the people might not be ready for Kerry, not ready to take their medicine... Less than 50% of the votes cast in 2000 were for Bush... he actually lost by popular vote, remember. And the cowboy was squeaky clean then... at least as far as the 'public' was concerned... and he has remained protected for almost three years now... but more and more folks are waking up to the real Dubya, and hey, once you wake up, you can't go back to sleep! There's a huge trust issue for Dubya... pick up any mag today and you'll see an article about how Bush has lost the confidence of the people... and trust is like virginity, once you lose it, it's GONE! Elections involving incumbents are usually about whether we keep the rascal or throw him out... any alternative to keeping the shrub is viable for most thinking people... the rest will vote their pocketbook... So he has the Sun conjunct his Part of Fortune Nov. 2 --- he'll need it when he has to answer for all his war crimes! Collectively we will bring about whatever we choose... and I choose Kerry and I refuse to even draw the energy of a possibility of a Dubya victory to me... namaste Nancy, thanks again for sharing your thoughtful expertise with us! I too want bush gone and will support Kerry, however, on an intuitive level something about Kerry leaves me uneasy. Its not his competency but something I can't put my finger on. Posted by: Nancy on March 17, 2004 03:45 PMI know I will have to hold hands during April to late May. LOL!! He has a similar line-up to post 9/11. The coming one will include: prog Sun/Mars/Jupiter. Post 9/11 was Sun/prog Mars/Jupiter/Pluto. But this time it does seem to spiral downhill pretty quickly. There is a tendency now to put Kerry on a pedestal as the rescuer. And clearly he is 1000 times better than Bush. I am not concerned by the planets he will have from February onward because they show he is grappling with the disasterous mess left by Bush. Saturn will be on US 8th house Mercury til 6/05, and he will be up to his elbows in a financial mess, at the minimum. So Pluto opposite his Saturn (ruler of his second - money matters) seems appropriate. But there will be problems in his administration. I am particularly concerned with the Neptune square to the Ascendant. They might be overwhelmed with the mess for a while. We will see. But anyone would have that Inaugural chart, so we will know more as things unfold. A friend heard Senator Biden on Hardball last night. He said he thought Cheney really "pulled the strings". Hence, any Wolfstar speculation that Condi could be VP is very unlikely. I see nothing in her chart to suggest anything more than confusion and weakness coming up. I am also dubious of the birth time he gives. I think it could be earlier, into Capricorn. I have Venus at 3 Aquarius, and Condi does not stimulate it in the least. I find her really repulsive. So I wonder if her Ascendant might not be 27 Capricorn, with Saturn crossing it in the fall and opposed to Dub's Saturn. Having his Saturn on her Descendant makes sense. She is painfully loyal to him, like a docile and adoring spouse. Just speculation. Also, I heard Chuck Schumer on The Daily Show the other night (my new nightly addiction). He quoted Ted Kennedy about Kerry: "Beneath that patrician exterior, ther is a street fighter underneath." That is where I got the term street fighter for Kerry. I thought it very apt. Posted by: Nancy on March 17, 2004 04:23 PMEphemeris of SEdna: http://www.astro.com/swisseph/sedna.htm It is conjunct Bush's MC, 22 Aries conjunct his MC at 24 Aries. It is currently at 17 Taurus. "In my judgment, the new prime minister should not have decided that he was going to pull out of Iraq," Kerry said. "He should have said this increases our determination to get the job done." With alQuaida at the top of the news once again instead of Saddam, my thoughts turn to Dr. Zawahiri. I have always thought he was far more dangerous than bin laden and yet the news media carries nothing about him, focusing instead on Bin Laden as the target name, much the same way as Bush is lauded but he is just the frontman for all those who manoevered him into power. Bin laden was the salesman and financier but Zawahiri was his inspiration. To the unsigned post above re Kerry's remarks on new Spanish PM's decision to pull out of Iraq: Kerry states in white paper on his website V. Win the Peace in Iraq and Afghanistan: Kerry will bring real security in Iraq by broadening the coalition, including the United Nations, and creating a real Iraqi security force that can take care of itself and the people it is supposed to protect. In Afghanistan, Kerry would put forward a major increase in security and fund the promised Marshall Plan for reconstruction. ------------ Like all the other messes Dubya has created (the economy, the budget, relations with foreign heads of state, and on and on) the 'aggression in Iraq will need to be cleaned up' --- Dubya has never cleaned up his own mess in his entire life! Why even his driver's license was issued 'born again'... so the adults in the world, John Kerry included, will have to stand together to clean up... Given that position, it is credible that Kerry would call on the new PM to help... Dubya is not asking other nations to help... Dubya is telling the other nations that he is in charge and things will be done his way and they are to supply the cannon fodder and the $$$ --- Did you forget to sign your name, or are you lurking? She is convinced that America can't make peace in her homeland, and she is nostalgic for the Clinton administration when she felt democracy was tangible and consistently realised: "I will vote for the Democrat. I wish I could vote now for Clinton's wife. They are professional but I could not vote for this Bush. He is not on the side of the rules," she adds. Close observers of the Haitian community in Miami are not sure whether the reactive policy-making of the last few weeks will backfire on the president in this crucial swing state." Posted by: Jo on March 17, 2004 07:51 PM Unsigned post above struck a chord with me. I am disturbed by Kerry's position on "winning the peace" in Iraq and Afghanistan. I read an article recently that pointed out that, considering this position, the neo-cons will have won even if Bush loses the election for their agenda will have triumphed in the end. They used the fear generated by 911 to push through their agenda of overthrowing both those countries which are crucial for control of middle-east oil. Kerry may call it "winning the peace" but it ends up accomplishing the neo-con agenda all the same. The players may be on the sidelines, but they will be victorious nonetheless. Primarily for this reason, I am not at all optimistic about a Kerry victory. He voted for the war. He will not pull out our troops. He will not reduce our outrageously exhorbitant military expenditures. The fact that we so quickly ended up with Kerry as the nominee--decided mainly by those early primaries and caucuses in conservative states--just shows how far we have yet to go. Kerry's response to Zapetero's pledge to withdraw Spain's token force in Iraq says alot about Kerry. Zapetero said it best in his address after winning the election in Spain: "YOU DON'T BOMB PEOPLE JUST IN CASE!" That sums it all up so well I'm making that into a sign for the protest this Saturday. Zapetero pledges his support for Kerry and Kerry immediately distances himself. Yes, I'll be glad when Bush loses in disgrace. But then I will have to protest against a Democratic President. As an older colleague of mine pointed out--it's like 1968 all over again--we are left with a choice between supporting the war and supporting the war. I'm not surprised Vis sees "a continuation of blood and war." Posted by: Timothy on March 17, 2004 08:19 PMI wish to ask Numerology experts here about Kerry Eh Nancy! Awesome piece. Posted by: Morgana on March 17, 2004 09:08 PMYou'll have to excuse me if there is a better place on this forum to post my thoughts than here ~ as I mentioned before I'm used to the Smirking Chimp forum which is a bit of a zoo. It's kind of like the cantina in the first Star Wars movie - as Obi-Wan says "watch your back, this place can be a little rough." I'm fascinated by the comments I've read here and I'd like to post my $.02, especially to those who have doubts about John Kerry. I was not a big John Kerry fan in the primaries. There are a few reasons why. Not the least of which is the fact that he is a member of the same fraternity as Bu$h, which is Skull & Bones. If you've heard anything about S&B it's probably been linked to being an elitist, being a Washington Insider, or being tied to the Illuminati. The S&B argument is basically that the real power behind the throne of government has used Dubya and now that he's outlived his usefulness is replacing them with - ta da!!! - another S&B member. I only bring it up because for a lot of people that are uneasy about Kerry once they latch onto this facet of his past they give up in despair. Quite simply, the stakes are simply too high IMHO for the "meet the new boss, same as the old boss" argument. If Bu$h gets another four years we've got some serious problems. John Kerry would have to be Genghis Kahn reincarnated on crack to be any worse than Bu$h. Personally, any fraternity that would accept Dubya as a member I have to doubt is a direct link to the Illuminati. Anyone that knows Dubya, and I feel like I know Dubya pretty well now, knows that if the general public actually got wind of his true colors whoo-boy! he'd be snatched out of the White House faster than you can say "that dawg don't hunt." The biggest obstacle to getting the truth out is how Bu$h is marketed in the press. One thing we can be sure of is that he is going to try and put the smack down on Kerry with as many smears, distortions and outright lies the GOP cabal can think of. For those of you that think there is no difference between Kerry and Bu$h I want you to be aware that Kerry has a new addition to his website called the D-Bunker. Basically, Kerry is trying to counter the GOP lies immediately before they can take hold in the public consciousness. So, from here until election day, when you (and your friends) hear a slam against Kerry coming from the White House, the Congress (heck the whole of the government is overrun with the Dominionists and the Republicans) be sure to check out the D-Bunker and see what the actual facts of the matter may be before you make up your mind! here's the link: Looking forward to reading more of your thoughts! ~Dommael Posted by: Dommael on March 17, 2004 09:32 PMRaj, The year 1943 adds 1+9+4+3 = 17 reduces to 8, again the number of fate, destiny. This is more than just simple buck-passing. It is a sort of through-the-looking-glass version of how problem-solving and accountability are supposed to work. It also has the perverse benefit of allowing the scope of the administration's failures to become reasons for not discussing those failures -- a sort of self-reinforcing anti-accountability causality loop, with all manner of moral hazards built in. We've created such a mess that we don't have the time or the luxury to start second-guessing how badly we screwed things up! I've always been strict about keeping four-letter words off this site. So I apologize for the graphic nature of this analogy. But this is like I come back to my office to find my new employee has taken a crap right on my desk. Puzzledly and not happy, I say, "What, umm ... what happened here?" To which he replies, "There you go again, always focusing on the past, how this or that could have been done differently, when what's really important is the future, how we deal with this and other challenges we're going to face." To which I would reply, "No. The future is exactly what I'm thinking about. And that's why you're fired. Because in the future I can't afford to have anyone working here who craps on my desk, and then when I confront them about it all they can do is dodge responsibility with moronic excuses and try to put the blame on me for asking what the hell is going on." These guys should be fired too. And, no, I wouldn't advise the Kerry campaign to base a 30 second ad on this analogy. ;-) -- Josh Marshall Posted by: Jo on March 17, 2004 11:17 PMJo, Dommael, Definitely agree that Kerry is a thousand times better than Bush. Between the two there is no doubt which is the better and only choice. As someone who can't shake the uneasy feelings about him, but will vote for him, I do appreciate your gesture. Hopefully you are right and I am wrong. Morgana - I wonder if Bush will cancel the trip. It will be a bad time for him. More than just a big anti-Bush protest. Do we have any prospective dates? The difference between Kerry not wanting to pull out of Iraq and leave a total vaccuum of power and Bush not wanting to pull out in order to control everything, is the UN. The Bushies want to give the UN only very limited power. They want to make sure their goal of a US mideast base is guarenteed. That is what this war is all about - a US base in a Democratic (read US puppet)Mideastern country. Kerry just wants to prevent total chaos. Now we only have partial chaos. I think Kerry wants to stay in as part of a UN presence to keep the lid on things. There is a big difference between the two positions. Kerry walks a very fine line here. He can't just go on record and say that he supports other countries abandoning the US troops in Iraq. He wants more countries in there, not less. Bush has created a truly irresolvable situation. You can't leave and you can't stay. I am sure Kerry would rather have the new guy (whathisname?) to work with. Responding to the Bush attack machine right now is getting to be impossible. Kerry needs to just stay on message and keep repeating what is important. He can't get pulled into all this garbage, which is very tempting because the lies are so extreme. It think he needs to keep repeating that the bushies are liars, with examples, to thereby discredit everything they say. Posted by: Nancy on March 18, 2004 01:41 AMNancy, I think George invited himself to the EU Summit. Their biggest topic of discussion is how they can pull together their power to balance against the US. Might be they won't let him in, or uninvite him. He'd be nuts to go, they won't go throught the hoops for his majesty to attend. Then again who knows how bad he'll hurt his election chances with this latest embarassment. Nancy, You have a wonderful point about Kerry remaining on-message and repeating that the Bush team are liars (with examples). I understand it might be a fruitless gesture, but I do occasionally write the Kerry campaign with ideas, suggestions and questions. Perhaps others should consider doing the same? :-) As for Kerry and his S&B affiliation, all I can say, with all due respect, is give it a rest! If we were all held to the high standards some of us are holding Kerry to (especially when it comes to one's college years or affiliations we held in the distant past), none of us would be "fit" to hold Office. What's more important to me is what he's done since he left University and his association with S&B. You compare what Bush has done (um, nothing but stealing companies blind and ruining Texas, and then America) with what Kerry's done (war service, and then many years representing the people of Massachusetts), there really isn't any choice. I understand and respect that there are those who feel hesitant about Kerry, and I respect that. You SHOULD ask questions and investigate. But when you're standing in that voting booth come Election Day, I hope you can think pragmatically and pull the lever for someone who will be ABSOLUTELY better for this Country and our standing around the World. Another 4 years (or even 2) of Bush would lead to certain continued chaos and a deeper division between the "haves" and "have nots". With Kerry, I believe the healing would begin. Just my two cents. Jonathan Posted by: Jonathan on March 18, 2004 02:40 AMTomorrow as we all know marks the anniversary of that terrible night a year ago when the U.S. military began the war to oust Saddam Hussein. The pResident, never one to allow ‘crassness’ to stand in his way, had marked this on his agenda as anniversary week. It stands etched in my memory... there is no need for a calendar reminder. That night as I tucked my grandsons into bed I thought of the Iraqi mothers and grandmothers who were tucking their children in, perhaps for the last time. There was a full moon that night... energy of the goddess... peak in feminine energy cycles... time when the goals and intentions we set on the new moon come into bloom. Therefore, the channeling of energy through group invocation at this time is extremely effective. Energy this night would not be directed for good... We entered the sign of Aries, god of war, when the planet Mars was the closest to earth it had been in some 60,000 years. The 18th marked the beginning of the Jewish Feast of Purim which commemorates the ancient Hebrew victory over the Persians (Arabs), which just happened to have had a 24 pause after the first strike before a complete slaughter. They used bombs with a feminine slant: MOAB (MOTHER of all bombs). "Moab" it seems means "father" and has even more significance: Numbers 24:17 "There shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Seth." If you haven't guessed by now, Moab and the children of Seth are today’s Arabs. A battle between the ancient forces of light (TARA) and darkness (TERROR) raged on our planet? There’s Power in the word. For weeks prior to this night, the warmongers had been tossing a couple about: Shock ‘n Awe... to describe the enormity of the strike. But that word SHEKINAH has both ancient and contemporary meaning... that of Glory, or the Divine Presence of G_d, who inhabits a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night, frightening observers with his terrible glory... a force of immense power that emanated from the Ark of the Covenant. Imagine the power that word invoked in the psyche of the Evangelicals... day in, day out. On the evening of the 18th "decapitation" strikes by precision missiles and bombs on targets in Baghdad believed to hold the Iraqi dictator, his sons or other top leaders began. The first missiles came from aircraft carriers blaring the Queen song "We Will Rock You." This Saturday, on the 20th when the Sun enters Aries, and burst forth at Spring Equinox... millions across this globe will march in the Light of day against the atrocities of that night and those of the past year. Many who cannot march will move in spirit against the Dark deceit that lays upon our planet. We will turn this energy to the feminine aspect, to Shakti/Shekinah and repel this Darkness. Blessed be. Namaste. Peace. Jo, Call me crazy and I bet it's totally unconcious ;-) Posted by: bhakti on March 18, 2004 03:53 AMBhakti, you're 'right on'! TO U.N.: John Kerry committed an unpardonable crime in Washington: he spoketh the truth. What he said is self-evidently true. There's a new poll out today by the Pew Institute, a worldwide pool, which shows massive and growing anti-Americanism around the world. Now American voters need to make up their own mind who they prefer, George W. Bush or John Kerry. But they also ought to know this administration is isolating us in the world, weakening us. Recent events in Spain, this election are another example. John Kerry said something everybody knows is true. And, Wolf, you know it's true. And why don't I say just one other thing. Why don't you, instead of staging a silly he said/he said between the White House, which is throwing all this mud at John Kerry after he said something true. Why don't you poll your foreign correspondents on CNN. And ask them who the population and leaderships in the world would prefer to see elected? Very simple." Go Richard! Go Kerry! Go PEOPLE! Namaste Morgana, FEMA has it's own personnel apart from the national guard. In fact, FEMA has more power than the President or Congress to suspend laws, move populations, arrest and detain ctizens without warrant, sieze and control all food supplies, transportations systms, etc. That means that they also have the personnel to enforce martial law. This, of course, is hidden from the American public (more deception). Do not get me wrong. I'll be the first to rejoice should Kerry win the election. My question remains, however. More, an easy feeling that grows ever more intense. farrout Posted by: farrout on March 18, 2004 06:28 PMUnfortunately Morgana, with the corporate media as the tool of this misadministration, a majority of the people would, like sheep, accept the cancelling of the election. The rest of us who would be protesting would be label nuts and unpatriotic. An example, because of how the media has spun the Spanish story, most Americans believe the Spanish are against fighting terrorism, which is not the case. The Spaniards were just against the Iraq war for fear that it would produce more terrorism, and because it was an illegal war. This claim, however, is not sustained by the Constitution itself, which is the sole legitimate source of federal power. The writ of habeas corpus, as specified in Article I, section 9, is the lone provision of the Constitution which may be suspended — and even then, only in "cases of rebellion or invasion." Under the Constitution the writ could be suspended during a period of national emergency only if the national emergency in question were a "rebellion or invasion." The Saturn transit to US Mercury beginning in September came to mind when I read this article about the OPEC countries and the euro. http://www.axisoflogic.com/artman/publish/article_5716.shtml I think Kerry will have a very rough first year due to the economy: Saturn on US Mercury (?currency devaluation?/necessary interest rate hike?) and progressed US Venus square Saturn through 2005. I do agree that we must be careful not to idealize him. I think it is a danger. We all want a White Knight to rescue us from the jaws of the Crawford Dragon. Posted by: Nancy on March 19, 2004 03:52 AMIt may be that, in retrospect, this entire Bush period will be seen as a time of the US power diminishing in the world, which is really not a bad thing at all from my perspective. We could stop being the big enchilada and become one of the community of nations. And maybe we could stop policig the world and raping it of resources. But the shift will be painful. It has already begun to be so. Posted by: Nancy on March 19, 2004 03:59 AMI can't believe I am disagreeing with you, Nancy, but I am. Please don't call him a dragon. Dragons have dignity. Just call him a snake, as in, "White man, you are so low that you crawl on your belly like a snake." On a more serious note, thank you ever so much for continuing to share with us and for casting a clear light on the road ahead. Posted by: shylurker on March 19, 2004 04:00 AMI am happy to call him a snake instead of a dragon, shylurker. I was using dragon with the image of Michael slaying the dragon (a.k.a. Sat*n) as my source. Whatever image you like that bespeaks nasty, greedy, deceptive, vindictive, selfish, and grandiose works just fine for me. Posted by: Nancy on March 19, 2004 04:23 AMThank you, Nancy. You are such a kind, generous and dear heart! Posted by: shylurker on March 19, 2004 04:27 AMTaiwan president Chen and VP Lu, shot prior to the election there. From yahoo: "Chen, 53, and Lu were standing in a red convertible Jeep as it drove past crowds lining the streets in his hometown. Along the route, people waved green banners and flags from stores and homes. People also were setting off celebratory fireworks as he drove by and early media reports said he was injured by firecrackers. "It was definitely a gun attack," Chiou said, adding that officials found one bullet. "The vice president first felt pain in her knee and she thought it was caused by firecrackers," Chiou said. "Then the president felt some wetness on his stomach area, and then they realized something wrong." " ....... "Chen also planned an unprecedented islandwide referendum on the day of the election that will ask voters whether Taiwan should beef up its defenses to protect against hundreds of Chinese missiles pointed at the island. " Is it possible China sent someone to send a message? China has made it very well known they want Taiwan back under their wing. World leaders tip toe around the issue, not wanting to piss of China, which has played a stealth role in governments around the globe. Our economy would crash if China demanded payment for the bonds they hold. China has been steadily buying arms and taking over small chunks in the Pacific ocean. Islands no one cares about. What might they be doing with those islands? Nancy, how does Mercury retro help or hinder Bush's Jupiter aspect? Mercury goes retro about the same time Bush is to have his nice Jupiter moment. Nancy, Sally, Morgana --- The last time Pluto went Rx was Mar 2003, when it began its Sta 3/18/2003 at 19 degrees Sagit 57... the night of the initial bombing of Baghdad, the "decapitation" operation... it went Rx 3/23/2003 {"blame game" with Rummy/military) and finished its Sta 3/29/03... Michael Kelly, a Washington Post columnist was the first American journalist killed ( Apr 4, 2003) in the war in Iraq and thus far the only one to die of the approximately 600 EMBEDDED journalists covering the conflict. He was born in 1957. I mention 1957 because it coincides with the Sta degree in 2003. Google reveals that in the year 1957 the US CIA was behind a bloodbath in Jordan that brought King Hussein to power; the CIA was also involved in Haiti ("Papa Doc" Duvalier), Iran, Egypt. Here's a breaking story ---
By Paul Mulvey in London AUSTRALIAN investigative journalist John Pilger says he has evidence the war against Iraq was based on a lie that could cost George W. Bush and Tony Blair their jobs and bring Prime Minister John Howard down with them. A television report by Pilger aired on British screens overnight said US Secretary of State Colin Powell and National Security Adviser Condoleeza Rice confirmed in early 2001 that Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein had been disarmed and was no threat. But after the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington on September 11 that year, Pilger claimed Rice said the US "must move to take advantage of these new opportunities" to attack Iraq and claim control of its oil. Pilger uncovered video footage of Powell in Cairo on February 24, 2001 saying, "He (Saddam Hussein) has not developed any significant capability with respect to weapons of mass destruction. He is unable to project conventional power against his neighbours." Two months later, Rice reportedly said, "We are able to keep his arms from him. His military forces have not been rebuilt." Powell boasted this was because America's policy of containment and its sanctions had effectively disarmed Saddam. Pilger claims this confirms that the decision of US President George W Bush - with the full support of British Prime Minister Blair and Howard - to wage war on Saddam because he had weapons of mass destruction was a huge deception. People have been discussing for weeks what would be contained in the soon-to-be-released book by former White House terrorism czar Richard Clarke (who served under Clinton and Bush). CBS is rolling the book on 60 Minutes this Sunday night. And here's the press release they just put out ... Former White House terrorism advisor Richard Clarke tells Lesley Stahl that on September 11, 2001 and the day after - when it was clear Al Qaeda had carried out the terrorist attacks - the Bush administration was considering bombing Iraq in retaliation. Clarke's exclusive interview will be broadcast on 60 MINUTES Sunday March 21 (7:00-8:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. The top counter-terrorism advisor, Clarke was briefing the highest government officials, including President Bush and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, in the aftermath of 9/11. "Rumsfeld was saying we needed to bomb Iraq....We all said, 'but no, no. Al Qaeda is in Afghanistan," recounts Clarke, "and Rumsfeld said, 'There aren't any good targets in Afghanistan and there are lots of good targets in Iraq.' I said, 'Well, there are lots of good targets in lots of places, but Iraq had nothing to do with [the 9/11 attacks],'" he tells Stahl. Clarke goes on to explain what he believes was the reason for the focus on Iraq. "I think they wanted to believe that there was a connection [between Iraq and Al Qaeda] but the CIA was sitting there, the FBI was sitting there, I was sitting there, saying, 'We've looked at this issue for years. For years we've looked and there's just no connection,'" says Clarke. Clarke, who advised four presidents, reveals more about the current administration's reaction to terrorism in his new book, "Against All Enemies." At least among people who've followed this story closely, these facts are broadly known, at least in their outlines. Of course, hearing the details from the guy in charge of counter-terrorism at NSC sort of bumps it up a notch. I'll be curious to hear from Clarke just how far along plans for a lunge against Iraq really got. -- Josh Marshall Posted by: on March 20, 2004 12:27 AMWhat I got out of Josh Marshall's bit was that there was a gaggle of very bad little boyz, who could hardly WAIT to bomb & kill something! ...could hardly WAIT to make all those children & peoples go BOOM! & fall dead! ...could hardly WAIT to BLOW UP the Natural World & make Her sterile & toxic! Bah! Humbug! May they receive ALL that they dish out to others, pressed down, & running over. Blessed Be. Posted by: JoannaOregon on March 20, 2004 12:59 AMRegarding the Pluto station, I would say it will just intensify the opposition to US Mars, which brings us into intense power struggles with enemies. We also see this theme played out between the Dems and Pubs this year. War and fierce battles are highlighted. And there is the potential for uprisings and demonstrations at home. The Uranus Mars square will likely further agitate things. Posted by: Nancy on March 20, 2004 01:11 AMJo - I have seen this mentioned before, that Powell had claimed Saddam was weaponless a year before the deluge of demagoguery. It hasn't really sunken into the national consciousness though. I think perhaps more damaging and easier to press is that the bombing of the USS Cole happened in 10/00, and Clinton thought it inappropriate to go after OBL at the tail end of his presidency so he had Dumbo's people briefed about it. Dumbo did nothing, shelved it. I think the connection to the Cole is important. I had heard of Sandy Berger briefing the Dumboites, but I had never connected it to a needed (and then ignored) response to the Cole bombing. I think that would be very damaging to Dimwit if people started seeing that connection, and that he did nothing. Posted by: Nancy on March 20, 2004 01:17 AMI think the Cole attack will matter to the military, when they collectively decide to wake up & revolt; maybe sooner than we all think, given their continuous deployments & rotations? Posted by: Peg on March 20, 2004 02:58 AMWhat I know about Cole is what you said Nancy, that Clinton thought it wrong to make a move in transition to the new Admin, so Sandy Berger gave Condi Rice the file --- and told her about the need to put Al-Qaeda at the HEAD OF THE LIST of priorities, but the Neocons thought CHINA was what they needed to checkmate and Condi herself admitted to never even LOOKING IN THE FILE until AFTER 9/11 --- talk about stupid arrogance! No wonder she won't testify in public. Namaste Here is the article on the meeting next week between the Clinton national security tean and the Commission.
