Preidential Politics Update
As the restless Democratic winds gather speed during the primary process, it is hoped that the unfocused fury of the country’s moderate and left-leaning partisans will coalesce into a tornado-like vortex, capable of wreaking a huge swath of destruction on the Republican landscape. Inexorably, the nominating process will lead to one candidate, whose singular goal will be to upend the reign of the Emperor Bush and his Neocon Nazis.
It is hard to imagine a more consequential moment in the history of our Republic. The coming election offers us a critical choice, a momentary fork in the road with two widely divergent paths streaming from it. The Democratic nominee will strive to paint a brutally clear picture of where these two very different roads will lead. The Rovian Propaganda Ministry will attempt, as always, to obscure and distort what the public most needs to know – the truth.
Iowa and New Hampshire are now behind us, and Senator John Kerry has claimed the mantle of a dramatic victory in both states. Will Senator Kerry continue this sweeping march to victory in the South and the West, or will the candidacies of John Edwards, Wesley Clark, and Howard Dean gain new momentum in the coming weeks as the primary process spreads far and wide across the American homeland?
The next big primary events are on February 3rd in South Carolina, Missouri, Arizona, New Mexico, South Dakota, and Delaware. Kerry is still under the beneficial impact of Jupiter square his Moon for these primaries and is likely to do well, but it will not be a clean sweep. He will, however, greatly benefit from the Mars opposition to his Venus on February 7 and 8, which indicates great promise for the very delegate-rich Michigan and Washington primary combination.
John Edwards will also benefit from events on February 3, probably winning in South Carolina, due to the Venus transit to his MC. But this may only bring a brief boost. Wesley Clark, on the other hand, remains in the midst of a Saturn return, with Saturn additionally square his Neptune, so he is not likely to fare well enough to gain much traction. This Saturn transit is not allowing him to get away with any statements, past or present, that are the least bit unsubstantiated or unfocused (Neptune). He is being pummeled by critical detail (Saturn), and his lack of experience as a candidate is perceived as a weakness (Neptune). The transit of the Sun to his Venus on February 3 will begin to dissipate before the polls close, suggesting he will not have a big win in Oklahoma. We may, however, see a brief surge in Clark’s fortunes between February 28 and March 6, 2004,due to the crossing of Jupiter to his Midheaven during the time of the Super Tuesday primaries. But this momentum is likely to weaken within a few days.
Howard Dean, on the other hand, may gain some small boost on February 3, since two of his current progressions are activated. The Sun will oppose his converse progressed Venus/Pluto conjunction, and Mars will trine his natal Jupiter, currently square converse progressed Sun. In addition, Jupiter will be on his IC until February 5. But all of this comes under the larger umbrella of the Saturn transit to his Ascendant (9 Cancer) which has really taken much of the air out of his campaign. Saturn recrossed his Ascendant at the end of December and during the first 10 days of January, during the time he was being battered from all directions prior to the Iowa caucus. Although Saturn has passed its exact conjunction, its February /March station remains within three degrees of Dean’s Ascendant, and the planet’s ponderous and restrictive energy lingers, making a really strong expansion at this point difficult.
Dean’s two most important progressions will both begin to wane after March 1, suggesting a significant dimming of his campaign energies shortly thereafter. In addition, Uranus will begin a long opposition to his Saturn, from late March through early August, which suggests some disruptive and uncomfortable challenges during that period. Most significantly, Dean will undergo transiting Saturn square to his natal Venus and semisquare his natal Saturn during and just after the Democratic Convention. Given his natal semisquare between these two planets, this transit indicates an emotionally difficult time, with a generally inward and unhappy feel to it, nothing close to the likely feel of a candidate being launched by the Party to run for president.
Returning for a closer look at John Kerry’s chart, we find two major planetary aspects to the angles during 2004. Pluto is squaring his Midheaven, and Uranus will soon be square to his Ascendant. These are both life-changing aspects, and coming together, they signify huge shifts in his stature in the world (MC), as well as personally (Ascendant). Pluto square the MC creates a tremendous power struggle for one’s place in the world, as well as a relentless striving for power. Interestingly, Dean had the same aspect in 2003. The first crossing of this transit for Kerry was from late December 2003 through January 20, 2004, simultaneous with Jupiter square his Sun. This coincided with his tremendous rise in political fortunes after being written off as all but finished by almost everyone. Pluto is the planet of “death and rebirth”. The Pluto square to Kerry’s MC, with its determined push for dominance, remains in effect in February and March 2004, though slightly less potent, returning to its full intensity again in late March through May 2004.
Simultaneous to this rising Pluto strength in late March, some very strong Jupiter energy is again in play. The second half of March and early April 2004 will be an exceptional period for Kerry and may bring about the actual nomination. His progressed Moon will be conjunct natal Jupiter from March 11 through April 11, and transiting Jupiter will be square his natal Mars (3/23 to 4/1). This strong Jupiter presence will bring success, optimism, and expansion. Because it is triggering progressed Mars conjunct natal Mars, it may also bring forth a vicious volley of attacks between Kerry and the administration.
The first crossing of Uranus square to Kerry’s Ascendant will also take place during this critical time, from 3/16 to 4/4/04. This transit will bring a change in Kerry’s position and stature, a sudden shift in personal status, as well as a fiercely independent streak. Combined with the success of Jupiter and the power surge of Pluto, the Uranus transit could signify the shift to becoming the nominee.
The second crossing of Uranus square to Kerry’s Ascendant is also noteworthy, since it will come during and after the Democratic Convention, suggesting another change in status and an acceleration of energy swirling around the candidate. A strong Jupiter influence, indicating success, expansion, and optimism once again will accompany this transit. Jupiter will square Kerry’s Sun during and just after the Convention, and then move to cross his Midheaven during the first half of August. It is hard to imagine that the timing of these transits does not indicate that Kerry will be the nominee.
Every successful candidate, especially in the technological age, needs a certain amount of charisma and attractiveness to appeal to the voters. This is often manifested astrologically by Venus – activated in some way by transit or progression. In November 1992, Bill Clinton had progressed Sun conjunct natal Venus. In November 1996, Clinton had progressed Venus square natal Sun. In November 2000, George Bush had converse progressed Sun square natal Venus and converse progressed Venus trine natal Moon. These are all very potent Venus progressions, which were able to create an aura of attractiveness that overcame many other obstacles (such as George Bush’s obvious inexperience and intellectual deficiencies). In contrast, Al Gore had Saturn, the inhibitor, conjunct his natal Venus for the 2000 election, somewhat muting his attraction to the voters and making his “stiffness” an issue.
For the 2004 election, Kerry will have progressed Venus quincunx natal Moon from August 2004 through June 2005, and transiting Uranus trine natal Venus, stationary from September through December 2004. Neither of these is as potent as the Venus aspects found in the previously mentioned elections. However, they may well suffice for Kerry in 2004. The reason for this is twofold. In the first place, the voters today want a warrior to go against George Bush. They want someone who will take Bush to the mat, thrash him, and punch him out. There is so much residual anger at this administration for reasons too numerous to describe that voters want a candidate who will channel their rage and then forcefully evict the current White House resident. This has been the tremendous appeal of Howard Dean, who seems the consummate scrapper. But it is also the appeal of John Kerry, a Viet Nam veteran and motorcycle aficionado whose campaign resonates with a bristling sense of war against the right-wing fanatics in the White House, and who repeatedly uses the words “courage” and “fight” to describe his ethos. The voters’ goal is a warrior now, a diplomat and policy buff later. In his chart, Kerry’s progressed Mars currently conjunct natal Mars is stimulating this Warrior archetype, so appealing to the rumbling, angry thunder heard everywhere in the Democratic electorate.
The second reason Kerry’s progressed Venus quincunx Moon and transit of Uranus trine Venus signal enough of an “attraction” quotient is that they far surpass anything in Bush’s chart for late 2004. Indeed, Bush will have progressed Venus square Saturn, converse progressed Venus semisquare Saturn, and transiting Saturn there to trigger them both, while sitting on Bush’s natal Saturn from late September to mid-December 2004. This combination suggests that Bush’s popularity will have diminished appreciably and that he will seem stiff and uncomfortable in the public forum. The stench of failure will waft around him, despite the relentless Rove attack machine and the White House spinners frantically attempting to spin straw into gold.
The final square of Pluto to Kerry’s MC will happen from mid-October through mid-November 2004, suggesting the completion of his transformation and surge to power of 2004. The final square of Uranus to Kerry’s Ascendant will come during January 2005, signaling the last stage in the shift of his personal status, the one that is likely to usher Senator John Kerry into the White House.

Wonderful article, Nancy!!
Watching Meet the Press this morning I was reminded how much I really support Howard Dean, so I am very distressed that he may not become the next come-back kid! I am not impressed with Kerry so I hope that he grows on me. Of course, anyone is better than the Shrub.
Kerry has the Saturn look to me which is quite depressing. I know one should not hold against a person their looks, but I'm afraid I'm only human. I hope he can beat Bush, but I have grave doubts. He is perceived as being way too "liberal" . . . another round of Bush v. Dukakis. Howard Dean has promised to balance the budget -- I'm wondering if Kerry has that on his agenda. If he gets the nod, I will start looking at him afresh. He certainly has the experience it takes.
Thanks for the great article.
Thanks again Nancy for the time and effort you put into helping us all understand whats going on. I have been wondering about Dean's saturn going beneath the horizon as opposed to Kerry's upward rise. I know you feel Kerry will be the next president, but do you feel that Dean may continue to work to affect systemic change in washington, but perhaps out of the limelight?
The striking thing about Kerry is thathe is the only candidate who is free of Saturn this year. He gets lot os Jupiter and the Pluto and Uranus transits I discussed.
I think Dean has had a huge impact on the campaign, helping to hone the message into one that is more confrontational than the Dems have been capable of up to now. I don't know what he will do if he doesn't win the nomination. I doubt he would run with Kerry as VP. It wouldn't make sense for several reasons, but he could have a place in the cabinet. I really don't know what he will do next. There certainly will be plenty that needs doing.
Well, I know what saturn is doing for me... making me very depressed that another neocon may possibly be in the WH. Also, I'm sure I wouldn't be very happy about "getting what I wanted" while pluto sq'd my MC/IC axis. And I SURE wouldn't be happy about being used as a medium by The Collective to exact hatred & revenge (with those emotions being quite understandable concerning the bushie-boy cabal imo). I'm also inclined to see pluto as a symbol of the plutie-oligarchs as well... as they shift their support from bushie-boy to kerry. Um um UMMM! Kinda dangerous. Just a thot.
Oh... another thot. A comment on the dour sad long gray (w/o the makeup) face on kerry would be just the face to have on the latest "Long Live the King; The King is Dead" scapegoat that "the people" everlastingly require. Again, understandable when having their lives everlastingly yanked & jacked around by childish "rulers." That mythos really needs to go into the Cosmic Compost Pile imo.
Excellent insight Nancy into what November may bring. I congratulate you on the courage to call the ‘Neocons’ Nazis — if they have their way... well, let’s don’t go there! The Demo nomination is still months off, but Kerry is looking stronger every day... the media is certainly cheering him on. I just realized that John F. Kerry’s initials are the same as John F. Kennedy’s (not that that means a whole lot!) Those of us who are interested in Dubya returning to Crawford as soon as possible also want a Democrat President in 2005 to go immediately into Reverse gear... we sure don’t want him to continue along the path the Neocons have plowed out. Looking at Kerry’s natal chart I see a double Sag (sun and Rising sign) and a bevy of planets in Gemini, so lots of mutability there... with grounding only through Capricorn Mercury? [I don’t consider myself an expert, simply a ‘student’ of astrology] A man with practical ideas (which we will surely need to get us out of the mess we’re in) --- with Pluto conjunct the North Node almost exact in the 8th ruled by Leo --- I have my own image with regard to that, but I’d like to know yours... and again we find a 12th house sun (like Dubya’s) --- a personal planet, Mars, in Rx, along with Saturn and two of the outer planets Rx --- lots of counterpoints? Aspects: 3 oppositions, 4-5 squares, 3 trines and 4-5 sextiles. Over the years our country has had a number of candidates qualified to sit in the White House. Particular times call for a particular candidate. The field is narrowing. What do you see in Kerry’s chart? I can nitpick here and there, but I don’t have your expertise to pull it all together. What do you think? Is he a leader?
Grandma Jo - I see Kerry as having a first house Sun in Sag and a 5 Sag Ascendant. That is a very strong Sun position. It is trine Jupiter (wide, but mutual reception) and square the MC. He also was born on a waxing Full Moon, with Sun also opposite Mars and Saturn. The Sun is also trine Pluto and semisquare Venus. So the Sun aspects numerous points in the chart, lending it a lot of strength and giving it a lot of outlets for its dynamic energy.
Despite all the mutability, Saturn is very strong, conjunct the Moon and opposite the Sun. Hence the long, Saturnine face. As I wrote in the earliest part of my Presidential Politics article (scroll way down http://starlightnews.com ) the next Inaugural has a very strong Saturn, so it may make sense to have a president with a strong Saturn who has the will forces to do what needs to be done. Dubya has a very weak Saturn (in the 12th, in Cancer). And he doesn't have the guts to make any tough choices. Even worse, he is led around by the nose by others. a first house Sun wouldn't be led by the nose.
I think Kerry, if he does become president, will do fine for the first three years, despite the mess he will need to clean up from Dubya. 2008 may be quite difficult with Saturn in Virgo going across his MC, Uranus on his IC, and both square his Sun and Moon. In the US chart the Saturn Uranus opposition will be square US Mars. I hope we aren't dragged into another war, but all that action on Mars is significant. It will be easier to read as we draw closer and can look at cabinet and vice presidential charts, etc.
Nancy thanks for the prompt response. I rechecked the natal chart - I found it at this link
http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~harwood/kerry.htm -- it is 'geocentric' from astroDataBank and it shows the sun in the 12th but it also shows the ASC IN the 12th... a little strange! Anyway I'll be more careful next time I check a chart -- my eyes aren't what they used to be and I should have enlarged the image... Your post makes me feel much better... 1st house suns are the most energetic of course... thanks again for your additional comments and for all your efforts in bringing insight to all of us who are searching for a way out of this nightmare. Namaste
Just read somewhere that Howard Dean was born the same day as Prince Charles. How wierd is that!
Nancy, I thoroughly enjoyed reading your article and analysis; Having had to aside my personal disappointment I have been rethinking my opinion of John Kerry. I know how for Democrats it’s been a harsh and trying four years under the Bush Regime. Democrats were faced with the stealing of the election, the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001, the jobless recovery, the deficit, Patriot Act, health care, environment, and the costly and unnecessary war in Iraq. But for the first time in a long time I see an amazing “un-Democrat” type of behavior emerging nationwide among the Democratic Party loyalist. Democrats are actually beginning to set aside their traditional fixation with factionalism and are now paying attention to the most important and pressing question: “Which candidate has the goods and broad appeal to trounce George W. Bush”. It would appear that this new impetus placed on the overwhelming desire for electability happened because of the uncompromising message of Governor Dean, The Governor who came from nowhere via cyberspace and a huge grass roots movement, had become admired and popular with his withering outsider, populist critique of President Bush. Thank God for Governor Dean, he literally forced the other major contenders, (with the exception of Lieberman) into sounding like genuine opposition party members. It wasn’t long before Kerry, Edwards and retired Gen. Clark began voicing the sentiments of actual Democrats. The courageous Governor Dean accomplished something stupendous and remarkable: Democrats are rapidly becoming uncharacteristically pragmatic about picking a nominee and are placing victory over ideology and because of this we may see the end to the Bush takeover.
Carolyn, I agree wholeheartedly about the vital role that Dean played in the political race. His contributions must not be forgotten. Mark Shields wrote a beautiful assessment of the good Governor and the effect he's had on Democratic political discourse. May be interesting to you, if you haven't already seen it.

Nancy what an excellent article! One of the things I find so amazing about this site is the high level of astrological ability paired with wonderful story telling. It's a feast for the mind and soul. Wow. To top it all, commenters bring so many insights and news articles.
We are fortunate here.
Thanks Nancy for sharing your talent, and for all those powerful images. Yummy.
Nancy, I always delight in seeing a new article by you - your writing is superb and your insight is always heartening.
I, too, have to work at being happy about Kerry, but picture listening to a president who can actually form a sentence, and whose IQ exceeds his shoe size. Bliss!
Maybe we can begin some not-so-gentle persuasion for Kerry to give Howard a position of power within the cabinet, one where he can put his passions against the special interests at work: Appropriations Committee? A position where he can guard against giveaways and be vocal about it, so that it (ya right) gets some press. One can dream.
I'm in NH and I was so angry that the Dems here elected Kerry over Dean - when I felt Kerry had abandoned us for the last 3 years of BushRape. But we all have to get behind the nominee and bring to bear that we want Howie in there somewhere, too! And then watch that big-assed, pollutant-belching Bush bus heading back to the wasteland of Crawford, Texas where it belongs.
The interesting thing about Dean is that he was few people's second choice. People seem to love him or not want him. Kerry was a lot of people's second choice. So without Gephardt and when they thought Dean was too polarizing, they went to Kerry. The fact that he has minimal Venus progressions for him in the Fall suggests to me that the elecotorate isn't in love with him the way some were with Bush (bleh) and many were with Clinton, what Molly calls the Elvis factor. But that they just want someone they can trust who can appeal to a broad enough spectrum and seem responsible and solid (the non flakey, anti-Bush). Here is where the strong Saturn stands him in good stead.
Unfortunately we may get what we want. "Any body but Bush". Nothing more.
I've said in these column before we hadn't had
back to back 2 term presidents since Jefferson and
Madison.Another tidbit is when a candidate wins both Iowa and New Hampshire primaries,it is almost
100% certain, that candidate will be in the WHouse
in the ensuing Jan ie.Jan 2005 for Kerry.Another
reason to say Adios to the corrupt, arrogant, ashy
cheny, rummy, cunti and of course the biggest clown of them all-shrub!
If that superficial poseur gets into the White House all it will mean is damage control - no meaningful change.
For that we'd need a real man, a champion like Dean. From, of all places, an Andrew Sullivan column:
Dean offers, to purloin a phrase, a choice, not an echo. His pugnacity in defense of his liberal instincts is obviously genuine. After eight years of careful Clintonian positioning, it's refreshing. Compared with Kerry's packaged, tested, hollow rants against "special interests," Dean's straight talk is invigorating . . . Unlike Kerry, Dean has held a serious executive office — balancing budgets, reforming health care, innovating on civil rights. Kerry's undistinguished, flip-floppy Senate record is far less impressive.
And Dean is a conviction politician. Like Margaret Thatcher, he may command the respect even of those who disagree with him. He once told the New Yorker, "I think the problem with the Democratic Party in general is that they've been so afraid to lose they're willing to say whatever it takes to win. And once you're willing to say whatever it takes to win, you lose." That's a brilliant analysis of what ails the Democrats — and it's why, even under Clinton, they saw their congressional power ebb and collapse. If Dean is a doctor, he's got the diagnosis dead right. I say, Unleash the id.
Besides, Dean has space to move to the center in the spring. He has already made more moderate noises — on taxes (he may not hike them all) and the U.N. (he won't always ask permission to wield American power abroad). His genuine fiscal conservatism and centrist record as Governor might help fend off attacks from the right. But he's not the only vulnerable Democrat on this score. Kerry will be painted as a hyperliberal anyway.
Why not have someone who can truly fight back? Sometimes conviction matters. Without it, political parties wither and die. The Democrats haven't seen this kind of nerve in a very long time. They will end up with regrets if they throw it away."
Hi Pat! I tried your link and couldn't get it to work.
Raj - I certainly detect anger and hatred in your comments, and other's comments (not just you) which remind me of the right wing when they went after Clinton. I vowed I would never be like them but I have found myself doing the same thing . . . we must think more positively. Instead of dwelling on how awful these people are let's work together to make changes, starting with the visualization of what we DO want and love, not what we hate. This negative energy will backfire on us, I'm afraid. We're better than that!
nancy, thanks for your work. but it's the first time, or shall i say, it is not often that hard aspects are interpreted as good or lucky..hmmm..i guess we'll have to wait and see and i'm curious now, from an astro viewpoint, BUT in a way being the dem nominee is pretty much a shoe in, as much as the repugs try to scare everyone about their possible stay in office. the usa didn't vote for bush because they suspected he'd be 'bad' for america, he got in through the supreme court, was worse to the 10th power than all our fears, so there's no way he'd get in again. personally though i couldn't vote for anyone who signed off on this war as kerry did..if i knew it was wrong and there were no wmds, he sure as shit should have. i hope the 'we were mislead' rubbish works on the country, of course, it's a unifying cry which is wonderful and probably authentically true for a lot of americans, but not kerry. i couldn't sleep at nite voting for someone who voted for the action that now has cost billions and so many lives lost, and disrupted. no sir. but good luck! plus all that gemini with a scorpio 12th house gets me wondering..too bad dean says he'll drop out before the convention. the man needs a good astrologer..and if what i interpret hard aspects to be, especially in this case where to me there's even a danger element for wellst, i mean kerry, who would be the guy the dems would run? think about that for a minute. what y'all say? clark? no, sharpton? no. dean, well we all know how the dems feel about him, esp if he drops out early...who's the worst dem running?
Roxanne, I hope you reconsider, if it comes down to it, to vote for whoever the nominee is . . . Kerry would be 500% better than another 4 years of neocons. Just hold your nose, it'll be easy. And you can sleep well knowing your vote is a vote against Bush.
I'm personally not writing Dean off yet, his campaign is still full of vigor and hope, albeit disappointment. These people will not walk away easily.
Much as I respect the voters in the NH primary & much as I respect (but don't understand) the Iowa caucus system voters--those are two states out of 50. I am supporting Dean as long as he is running. Maybe it isn't his fate to be the 2004 presidential candidate but even though his path looks very difficult I want him out there putting out his message. Edwards didn't fare any better in the first two contests than Dean, but you notice the media does not count him out. Having a Scorpio in the family, I know that sometimes they achieve their goal even when the goal seemed impossible. To me, 3rd place and 2nd place in the first two rounds is not a "meltdown" as one headline put it. Nancy, you are right-on 'most every time and I know predictions often aren't what we were hoping for--my weakness is seeing what I want to see for those I favor. But, could that Saturn on the ascendent work as "gravitis", do you think? Anyhow, even if Dean is doomed I'm backing him and his message--which needs to get out.
I have a feeling all of those Bush supporters that love and respect Bush have little if any clue about the rage and anger brewing and boiling over in the hearts of enormous numbers of Democrats all over the country. And I think this is a good thing and will propel Democrats to fight harder and maintain a unity of purpose in their effort to get rid of Bush. My heart still belongs to Governor Dean. . . . I love his passion and most of all how he gave me back my hope. But (sigh) my head says it’s probably Kerry who can get elected. It really hurts for me to think this way, but I believe with my whole heart George Bush has been a tragedy and a disaster for our country and I can tell you for sure. . .if a dead dog had the best chance of winning the election, then I'd vote for a dead dog. And I have to be realistic; one big advantage that Kerry or Clark has over Governor Dean is that they have a heroic war record and realistically that's one thing that could make even a “liberal” Democrat a genuine threat to that “All Hat-No Cattle” Bush. But for the time being we will all have to wait and see if Kerry can maintain his “supposed” elect-ability over the good doctor or Clark or Edwards. All this speculation will finally come into sharp focus in the next few weeks when the state of California with its behemoth 370 pledged delegates tells us what they think
Roxanne - I agree there is a danger element for Kerry. Uranus will be square his Ascendant, and Mars will be opposed, in late March. Thus a Mars Uranus square exactly aspecting his Ascendant. Minimally, it will bring harsh verbal attacks. I hope it is not anything physical, though it could be with the Ascendant involved. Also in mid-August, there is a Mars Uranus opposition square his Ascendant. I would hate for him to be "wellstoned". He will clearly be a zillion times better than shrubco if in the WH, even if not the perfect balance of everything we want.
Thanks for the URL from the Black Commentator. It was a fine one as usual. Ditto to the comment of bbuster et al. The fire is not better than the fryingpan. And why shld we believe there's only an "either/or" choice when that's no choice at all... particularly when the "choice" is put up by the same cabal of oligarchs... squeezing, squeezing, squeezing the people's necks.
I also am having a really hard time getting the least bit excited about Kerry. But in looking at him more in a broader, long term context, my opinion of him softens somewhat. We are changing ages, and that does not happen with any 1 president, a blink of an eye in cosmos time. Perhaps Kerry will be one to have a foot in both the piscean and aquarian era method of political manoeverings, a bridge if you will, with better times to come after him. This whole Bush thing seems a bit like the final death throws of a bygone era unwilling to let go. One can only hope it will pass soon. Whatever democrat gets elected this time, he will have a hard time getting anything done with so much cleanup at hand, and will probably get blamed by the fickle electorate for not fixing everything overnight.
Oops roxanne. I was addressing the above post to you and typed your name in the wrong place before I posted. Sorry!
From Pat's excellent URL...
* Howard Dean has joined the list of victims of US corpo media consolidation. Dean shares this distinction with Dennis Kucinich & the people of the formerly sovereign state of Iraq, among many others. Dean was stripped of half his popular support in the space of 2 wks in Jan while John Kerry – tied in the polls with Carol Moseley-Braun at 7% just 2 mos earlier – rose like a genie from a bottle to become the overnight prez frontrunner. Both candidates were shocked & disoriented by the dizzying turns of fortune, & for good reason. Neither Dean nor Kerry had done anything on their own that cld have so dramatically altered the race. Corpo [AmeriCo] decided that Dean must be savaged, & its media sector made it happen.
This commentary, however, is not about the merits of Dean. If a mildly progressive, Internet-driven, young white mid class-centered, movement-like campaign such as Dean’s – flush with money derived from unconventional sources, backed by significant sections of labor, reinforced by big name endorsements & surging with upward momentum – can be derailed in a matter of wks at the whim of corpo media, then all of us are in deep trouble. The Dean beat-down shld signal an intense reassessment of media’s role in the American power structure. The African American historical experience has much to offer in that regard, since the Civil Rights & Black Power Mvmts were born in a wrestling match with an essentially hostile corpo (white) media. However, there can be no meaningful discussion of the options available to progressive forces in the US unless it is first recognized that the corpo media in the current era is the enemy, & must be treated that way.
Rich man’s mic - It is no longer possible to view commercial news media as mere servants of the ruling rich – they are full members of the presiding corpo pantheon. ... con't http://www.blackcommentator.com/75/75_cover_dean_media_pf.html
But I don't think Kerry is surprised at all... Kerry is a member of the olies & may all happen to him that he dishes out to others. Blessed Be.
In the meantime, Dean had Saturn going across his Ascendant while Kerry had Jupiter square his Sun and Moon. So who is likely to have success and expansion in that scenario and who is likely to have problems with miscommunications (natal Saturn in the third)that force reassessment and cause obstacles?
Well the media sure buried Dean! After 10 days of the " scream" that was altered to fit the desired result.........Bill Schneider on CNN last night was doing an assessment of the "presidential personality" He showed clips of the Dracula movie & his coffin to depict Dean's personality!!!!! How pale is typing into a little gray box in response to a vicious person in your face in your own living room, trashing your judgement.
Then the lightbulb went on! If they went to the Whitehouse, the Deans might set a style for a modest lifestyle! They don't even have cable! Judy Dean was happy to receive a rhododendrin bush for her 50th B-day! She's not interested in clothing & hairstyle! They are as much of a threat to our American way of as as Al Quida! God forbid the kids might learn that they can actually save up their money for a purchase, rather than buying it instantly with a credit card, and paying twice as much in interest payments!
I picked Howard Dean as my choice because of his easy going comfortable way with people, and EASY SENSE OF HUMOR,
after the first debate in May. I haven't seen that man portrayed on TV since! ( except on C-span.)
I'm hanging in 'till the bitter end!,
Dean of course, and the media is manifesting it in spades. sigh
Pat I think they will constantly be comparing them with the Polks. The media is a problem which must be solved.
The first and last time I voted. It was in a Mormon Church with the air swollen in colors of deep olive and indigo. I remember entering in wide double story and a half oaken doors carved deeply. The echoing footsteps and shuffle of papers. No words were exchanged as I handed the woman my card. She pointed to the hurriedly set up rickety booths with half curtains, that a mere word could blow over.
I entered, staring at the choices. What did I really know about these men? Their names swam before me, dancing like little pixies in the dust motes. Finally I dutifully filled out my choice, blindly. Silently returned it to the woman, our eyes never meeting once. As if the gloom weighing down upon us both had somehow stolen our voices, our humanity. I wondered if it was an omen to come of all things adult.
I exited through a side door, the crisp scent of pine embracing me as I passed under it's foresty green needles. Into the clear glass like sunlight.
Tomorrow with snow covering the ground I'll be voting again for the second time in my life in a church. This time it's a Baptist one. I know it'll be different. The decade plus that has passed since that first time has taught me many things. This time I won't be voting for the experience of doing my duty. This time I have researched the all the candidates.
In my heart I still believe that the democratic party at it's core has the values I hold dear. Only one candidate has spoken about that value. In his language, his policies, his voice. Friday in St Louis he said the word itself; Community.
In that moment, I felt what I have only felt five times in my life before. For me it was a spiritual moment. That single word stopped time, the noise of the crowd evaporated, the light glowed, I felt an incredible peace, a feeling of right.
Then my ego stepped back in and I must have blushed bright red.
Ho ho isn't god or a savior as some might say whether serious or jokingly. In my view, each one of us has a piece of "G-d" inside us. Some call it our souls. I do also on certain days :) For me, I think in that moment I saw the soul of Dean.
Even before that, the truth is the only candidate I can vote for is the one that has stood up and delivered real democratic values over and over. That is Howard Dean. I'd like the privilege of voting four times for him. So even though the stars may not seem to be in alignment for him, My heart, head, and spirit is.
Time flies in anticipation!
Voting - great post. Brought a tear to my eye. I feel this way about Dean also. I feel I'm getting cheated again, all over again. I want my candidate!! sigh
Yesterday afternoon at 1, CNN's Kyra Phillips gave us the headlines, and then paused dramatically, "First, the story everybody's talking about today ..."
A news junkie could be forgiven for expecting the lead item to be how U.S. President George W. Bush's approval ratings are 49 per cent, an all-time low. It is now undeniable that the White House misled the country into war. It is so under the gun that, yesterday, Bush announced an "independent" panel to examine the false — falsified, surely — intelligence that hurled his nation into the Iraqi quagmire and a fiscal nightmare.
But no. Instead Janet Jackson's nipple jewelry was flashdanced again, as if hundreds of millions of people hadn't already caught her Super Bowl boob job over and over again.
The news biz as usual.

Black Commentator: Great article!
On the "NIPPLE"!
Underlying this story of great moral outrage, that has brought Michael Powell out to address the public....................................
the unreported FCC real outrage! That several Repug Sens' Rep's. met together at night, in secret and added a clause to the FCC regulations document, that renders null & void, the percentage ownership restrictions written in after millions of us rose in outrage last June!
Sorry I can't remember my source for that info. Too much input into my life at this time! Maybe the NY Times or The Nation online?????? It wasn't moneOn, they need to know!
Does anyone have Dennis Kucinich's chart? He with his Mars in Scorpio is hanging in to the bitter end, if Kerry is thrown next summer he may be left standing. I'm supporting Dean all the way, but curious to know all the angles!
Q O P
Dean - to the end.
Kerry S.S.D.D.
Clark or Edwards are palatable. Just.
S.S.D.D.???? Forgive my ignorance.
The problem with Kerry is his Sun, which sits atop Bush's south node, and transiting Pluto, in addition to the progressed Democratic Sun. That's not rocket science.
Yaaaaaaaaaay! Viz is back. But, please explain, Viz, as some of us are not rocket scientists.
Hey, I'll try and take the time to write up something. Dean's real strength is on election day, he's terrific with Chiron/Jupiter/Venus. I had looked at Joe Trippi's chart a few months ago, and could see the ebb that was happening. Wolfstar says about what I think:
Kerry's progressed Moon reaches maximum power, that is, reaches its closest connection to the U.S. Moon, on February 20. After that it begins to fade rapidly over the next month and he becomes vulnerable. The only question is, can he lock up the nomination before his celestial tide ebbs?

Right now, he's still heading high:

Nancy, something interesting happening in Britain. Lord Hutton's inquiry gave Blair a pass and chastised the BBC, but now a retired spy (whatever they call them over there) Dr. Jones, says publicly that the politicians overruled the intelligence agency to insist that Iraq was an immediate danger. Maybe blow-back here will affect the race?

Laurie,
S.S.D.D. means Same S**t, Different Day.
Another comment on Kerry:
Even before he emerged as a real threat to *my* candidate, every time I look at him on TV, I see illness shadowed around him - going back to the Harkin barbeque in Iowa last summer. Somethin' ain't right with that man.
I'm an energy healer and have some small measure of expertise with this and admittedly don't like him and it's not wishful thinking.
Botox and all, he does not evidence vitality to me.
I wonder if the mar uranus opposition aspect to his ascendant mentioned on the other thread reflects any of this?
He had surgery for cancer last year, and I've heard his wife say she regretted that he didn't even rest much before going back on the campaign trail. He's still gaunt. As for vitality, even Edwards has bronchitis now, they're all tired. Kerry needs to look after his health better, but he probably can't do it now.
nancy--kerry voted for the war--"fooled" by bush?????--come on!!---if he's dumb enough (or is it just expedience) to be fooled by bush he's too dumb to LEAD us out of bush's mess--kerry also voted for NAFTA--only the biggest betrayal of american working people in our history--as of yet Kerry has offered no plan--many cliches but no plan--he almost appears to be a democratic version of bob dole--respectable but dull and uninspiring--his nomination seems a cinch but the democrats have five senate seats up for grabs in the south and party insiders concede they will lose three or four--if kerry were to beat bush he would not have any power in the senate--check the astro charts for the demo and repub parties--when saturn at 13cancer conjuncts the us sun and bush's sun it also conjuncts the mc of the repugs(sic)--bush's sun also conjuncts sirius the brightest of the fixed stars--star of destiny--for good or evil--in this case evil until his race is over--and anyway shouldn't the neocons have to bear the fruit or consequences of the labors--better word =KARMA--when the courts ruled for bush the democrats caved in--they haven't shown any real fight--they conspired to media- assassinate their only candidate with guts--they have forfeited their right to lead and are a party in decline--again look at their charts--
nancy--one more kerry transit--soon pluto23sag will oppose natal saturn--my own experience with pluto contacts of natal saturn have not been pretty--implicit in all of these astro predictions or projections is a notion that winning the presidency is somehow a definition of successs--the facts seem to be in recent years the the presidency actually destroys those who inhabit the office--even those who claim to have successful presidencies--perhaps that's the reason spritual masters, mystics and even astrologers of yore warn constantly that earthly success is never what it seems--neptune provides the illusion that all the techno change we've wrought over the last thirty years would somehow "save" us--saturn always brings us back to reality--and maybe america deserves a dose of reality--bush's psychotic messianic complex is so frighteningly obvious it begs the question of what happens when the masses yearn for a messianic solution to bush--kerry? can he save us???--pluto conjunct mars sits in the 8th house opposing the 2nd house in the 2005 inaugural chart--the second house in mundane astrology holds those things the nation considers dear such as the constitution--could this mean martial law?????????--best go -- don't mean to monopolize the board---
w, please do not think you are monopolizing the board. However boring some of our messages may seem to one or another person, we do share on this board. It strengthens us. And aren't we lucky to have such generous hosts? It's pretty awesome, huh?
bbuster, kerry's health has been on the periphery of my senses too. I've actually been finding myself more able in recent years to zero in on energy around tv faces. For instance, I remember the very first time I saw bush at the beginning of the 2000 campaign, feeling very strongly, if he gets elected he will somehow get us into major war.
Kerry's Health
As an energy worker and an "intuitive" I agree, I too have thought there is something gaunt and ill looking about Kerry both on a mundane level and an energetic level. One thought or "vibe" has been running through my head, although Kerry will undoubtedly win the nomination (or at least be posied for it) I have a feeling that he may suddenly have serious health problems that will cause him to drop out either before or after a nomination, giving rise to an alternate Demo candidate.
Re reading old post from last year, I don't recall many predicitons that he would be the nominee/elected. I think Edwards alone would be too weak to defeat Bush which could Clark or Dean (my hero) back to the forefront.
I believe that those of you who are unhappy with Kerry have not adequately gotten to know him. Kerry is a very spiritual person. His Saturnine look reflects a solid Saturnian temperament beautifully anchoring the more mutable elements. The People perceived, rightly, a certain lack of discipline in Dean, who never was Presidential material. He'll make a great Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare though. Kerry suffers from having been a legislator. They have to take positions on every issue and have a history of hundreds of votes. To focus upon ONE vote here and one vote there without taking into account a whole career of votes fails to see the big picture. Dean does not have the monopoly on taking unpopular stances! I say let's get behind the Man from Massachusetts and get rid of the Idiot Heir.
First, an excellent article. Wish it weren't so ...
I am sick that the collective unconscious seems to have overlooked the one man who can best lead this country - Wesley Clark. If this country needs a warrior, who is better suited than an Aries Moon and first house Mars? I'm also sick that his chart doesn't give him any support this year. No progressions, no angles, just that that #*(%^$# Saturn return. (I saw one rectification that reversed the minutes, from 5:43 to 5:34. This gives him converse ascendant conjunct that 10th house Jupiter, exact on Jan. 30, but it it's there it sure didn't work. Apparently the given time is the correct time. I've worked with both times, and they both seem to work, except for the death of the step-father; the earlier time seems to work best there.) I'd hoped for some action from Pluto transiting that Sag Mars, but?????????
My reading of Kerry's chart (and I use the old-fashioned Naibod in R.A. to determine progressed angles) gives him an exact progressed Sun conjunct progressed ascendant on March 1 - one day before Super Tuesday. Also, he has converse solar arc Neptune, coming out of the 10th, right smack on the ascendant. I don't trust him - see an awful lot of ego in that first house Sun, and an artful twisting of facts with that close Neptune square Mercury. That Neptune aspect is also semi-square Mercury right now.
An awful lot of Gemini this time around - Gemini Moons for Kerry, Edwards and Dean. Only Clark offers substance. Sigh.
Actually............... Rev. Sharpton and Dennis Kuchinich, both have stronger PLANETS than any of the other candidates. Assuming that a Libra Sun could be elected sq. to the USA Canaer sun.
I don't have birth times or places, have just looked at the planets on the day of birth.
Sharpton has Sun Lib. Mo., Sag,. ( waffley!) Ven. Scorpio, Mars Capricorn!
Kuchinich......Sun Lib., fair & balanced Moon., Capr., building/ structuring the people Ven., Mars, Scorpio. fixed, hang in there until it gets done, get what they go after! ( I dated one!)
Sharpton has a long line of dirty laundry out in public, most recent, Stone who lead that gang of bully boys in to break up the Palm Beach vote count, has heavily funded his campaign!
But given their standing to date in the elections.....they're not offering people what they want to choose, even if it wouod be good for them! Who votes for broccoli?

Quote:"The final square of Pluto to Kerry’s MC will happen from mid-October through mid-November 2004, suggesting the completion of his transformation and surge to power of 2004."
Could it be that Pluto might bring out his membership in the "Skull & Bones" group from his past. Makes me wonder who would win in the election since He and Bush are both members.
It is never a mistake to say good-bye.
With love comes strange currencies.
Communism has nothing to do with love. Communism is an excellent hammer which we use to destroy our enemy.
If I could get my membership fee back, I'd resign from the human race.
