Quagmire
Lost in a reverie of ideology, inebriated by power, and blinded by arrogance, the snake oil salesmen of the Bush Administration have entangled us in an impossible morass. What was portrayed as a battle against an imminent threat and promised to be a quick and noble victory for freedom and democracy has become, instead, an unlawful occupation attempting to crush an indigenous resistance movement. Despite the official denial of words such as guerilla warfare and quagmire, these are the reality in today’s Iraq.
As indicated in detail in my recent article Summer Fever, fierce fighting is likely to develop during the summer of 2003. The solstice chart, which covers the period from June 21 through September 20, is particularly brutal. In addition, the Mars station of mid-July to mid-August will be stimulating a great deal of aggression and likely military action in George Bush. A recent article in a Pakistani journal suggests that this may relate to a confrontation between the US and the Iraqi resistance. Recent rumblings about sending American troops to Liberia suggest an additional possibility.
With his nose buried in a neo-con travel guide for the past 18 months, King George XLIII studiously ignored the flashing neon warning signs posted ubiquitously on his way into the Swamp of Ineptitude. Not only in post-war (sic) Iraq, but in Afghanistan, and, at home, with regard to the ever-crumbling economy, Bush’s misbegotten policies have led to problematic situations from which extrication will be extremely difficult, i.e. a trifecta of quagmires. Saturn’s arrival in Cancer, impacting the US chart and Bush’s chart through June 2005, has assured there will be no simple or straightforward solutions to any of these issues.
Beyond the almost certain increase in military action from mid-July through mid-August, the autumn looks especially treacherous for George Bush and his cohorts. The groundwork is laid by the Saturn station, which falls within 5 minutes of the US Sun. Saturn’s greatest impact will be from September 25 through October 25, 2003, and, during most of June 2004, when it melds into the Saturn conjunction to George Bush’s Sun and square the US Saturn. But the entire period from late September 2003 through June 2004 comes under this influence.
The Sun in the US chart represents the president. Historically, transits of Saturn to the US Sun have brought times of great difficulty and burden to the Commander-in-Chief. In 1974, Nixon resigned on the day of the exact aspect. The largely unprepared Truman felt the weighty responsibilities of this transit in 1945 during the final months of World War II, just after the death of FDR. Thus, we can expect that this coming transit will lay a heavy weight and severe challenges upon George Bush’s shoulders.
In addition to its station on the US Sun, the Saturn station will also sit in quincunx to the US Ascendant in the Sagittarius rising chart. This suggests that the events of the period from mid-September through mid-November will bring a somber tone to the whole country and a feeling of discontent and hardship that may translate into severe criticism and loss of popularity for Bush (US Sun/Saturn).
A further look at the planetary picture of that period shows that the Uranus station will be exactly conjunct the US progressed Sun (29 Aquarius) from September 1 through November 30, 2003. Again it is the Sun (Bush) being impacted, but this time with a planet that brings a whirlwind of unfolding events and a continuous stream of upsets and reversals. These are likely to be highly misfortunate for the Commander-in-Chief due to the concurrent Saturn aspects.
Another significant aspect during this same period is the station of Neptune on Vice President Cheney’s Sun, from August through November. This suggests a slow deterioration of his once-solid power base and the potential for a scandal that completely engulfs him. The knowing use of a forged document to make the case for war in Iraq, increasingly pointing to Cheney’s involvement, may be the basis for these events. Also possible is the blatant failure of the policies he has advocated and his subsequent feelings of loss and confusion (Neptune).
Both the Powell/Bush and the Rumsfeld/Bush composite charts show substantial and stressful activity during the last four months of 2003. This suggests that foreign policy issues are one of the main thrusts of the ongoing turmoil. In the Powell/Bush composite, the natal Sun/Uranus conjunction will be squared by transiting Uranus from September 1 through December 15, 2003. This implies that Powell and Bush will be in the midst of turbulent and upsetting events. In the Rumsfeld/Bush composite chart, Saturn will be sitting on the composite MC from mid-September through November 2003, and crossing in square to the natal Ascendant/Moon conjunction in August and, again, in late December 2003, through mid-January 2004. This suggests that Rummy and Bush may be unhappy about the seeming failure of their mutual goals.
The chart for the proclamation of the Kingdom of Iraq is drawn for August 23, 1921, at 6 AM, in Baghdad (source: Nicholas Campion). The current Uranus station, running from April through mid-July 2003, is square the Midheaven in this chart (2Gemini22), indicative of the ongoing agitation and constant upsets currently plaguing the country. During the next Uranus station, from September 1 through December 15, 2003, this planet of rebellion, upset, revolution, and independence, will be in opposition to the Sun/Mercury conjunction in the Iraqi chart. This would seem to suggest that the indigenous resistance movement may grow quite strong during this period, and the possibility of a more widespread rebellion exists. Needless to say, the grievous and explosive events impacting Mr. Bush during the same time frame are likely to be related to this volatile scenario in Iraq.
In Mr. Bush’s chart, the final crossing of Pluto opposite natal Uranus, just as the progressed MC is exactly conjunct natal Uranus, comes on October 26 through November 26, 2003, immediately after the Saturn station. At this point, we can expect Bush to go into overdrive, trying to control events that are spiraling out of control, taking on his most commanding and dictatorial persona.
Meanwhile, an astrological event of potentially great significance takes place in early November 2003. The US progressed Sun will move into a void of course position. This means it will make no further aspects before it reaches the next sign, Pisces, in November 2004. When the US Sun is void of course (VOC), it often indicates a weakness or inability to fully perform in the presidency. The last VOC Sun ran from May 1974 to March 1975. It began two weeks after the Judiciary Committee began hearing evidence related to the possible impeachment of President Nixon and continued through the first eight months of the largely caretaker Ford administration. With no mandate and no political base, Ford was unable to deal with the problems of the day: unemployment, inflation, and recession.
The previous VOC Sun ran from June 1943 through October 1945. FDR died in April 1945, and was followed by Harry Truman, who was poorly prepared to assume the presidency and had no experience in foreign affairs. Although the war was successfully concluded, it took Truman a while to find his bearings as president.
During the VOC Sun of Woodrow Wilson’s presidency, June 1915 to April 1916, Wilson struggled to remain neutral and out of the war. He unsuccessfully attempted to pressure the Germans to stop attacking passenger vessels and was unable to convince Congress to expand the US armed services. In the spring of 1916, after the VOC ended with the Sun’s entry into Sagittarius, Wilson gave Germany an ultimatum, which succeeded in forcing the abandonment of the submarine campaign for several months. He also finally got the huge increase in military appropriation he had been seeking.

It seems likely that September through November 2003 may bring some form of a policy or political disaster for Mr. Bush from which he may never fully recover. Events may spin out of control for the administration, resulting in a loss of popularity for Bush, the potential for scandal, and the possibility of increasing chaos and rebellion in Iraq. It may be that the emerging catastrophic consequences of Bush’s policies and deceit finally make their way into the public psyche, and Bush finds himself in a far weaker position come 2004, unable to successfully implement any more of his compassionless agenda. Although further war is quite likely in 2004, the VOC progressed US Sun and the continuing Saturn presence near the natal US Sun both suggest that future military action is not likely to benefit Mr. Bush.

Thank you for the superb article, yet again! I feel something changing, definitely. Even the media are starting to pick up on the BS---thank you, Saturn, maybe you're shaking some sense into them---as I've seen gradual, if still very tentative, criticisms of the maladministration. Last night's ABC News started with the story that Bushies had to admit the uranium story was a hoax. Of course, they're still trying to deflect the blame, and the stupid report said "the president was misled" (ha!), but to see intelligence officials coming forward and telling the truth, that the WH, State and Defense ignored their misgivings, is heartening. A bit. Clearly, the media are still frightened of this administration, and it will take more loud, brave voices, from inside government and media as well, to make a difference.
It's wonderful that you mentioned Cheney, btw---a report this morning said a court ruled he's not immune to investigation of his energy deals. Could this be the beginning of the end for Sneer and thr rest of the Slytherin White House?

Mars will be winding up pretty soon to hit Bush's chart, any day in fact. Almost simultaneously, Saturn moves onto US Jupiter. The next few weeks should prove quite interesting. Heightened military activity is possible along with a sense of national sorrow. It is quite possible something rather big will unfold in Iraq.
When FDR died, Saturn was crossing US Jupiter, so it is no small aspect. In the Sag rising chart, Jupiter is ruler of the chart and therefore quite important to the country. Saturn will tend to knock all of the wind out of the usually buoyant US sails (not so buoyant lately with Saturn in Cancer and Dumbya in the WH). Saturn crosses Jupiter from the 12th through the 20th or so.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, and I don't read Tom Clancy novels, but the stonewalling on the 9/11 commission, coupled with Cheney's refusal to release the energy task force notes makes me wonder whether 9/11 was merely gross incompetence (bad enough) or whether there is a more complex web of lies (stench of mendacity) that allowed it to happen. There are very few things that would surprise me that this den of vipers could do and I'm not quite ready to believe that they knew about 9/11 attacks and let them happen... but... I also think it's not completely out of the realm of possibility. Who stood to gain? The administration has been rubbing this genie's bottle for almost two years now. Scandal? There could be none bigger. If, IF, it is revealed that he really did have knowledge, there are not enough secret service agents, nor a bunker deep enough to keep Shrub safe. The people would do more than turn on him; they would tear him limb from limb (providing they could get over their cognitive dissonance that their beloved malaprop-prone leader is a mass murderer). Ug, even I nearly retch at the thought. Um. Well, anyway, moving on: it's a nice summer day, isn't it?
On a more personal note... have you all noticed/felt that you and everyone you know has been going through more than a typical amount of personal challenge/crisis/sorrow in the recent weeks/months? It feels like everyone I know is like a rubber band stretched to the breaking point. Is this Mars? Saturn?
good article Nancy and you're right about the scandal, nearly everyone I know in the astrological world knows it. I'm just trying to figure out if 70 percent of Americans have become Muggles. There have been so many scandals to have rocked this administration and they just pass by. The same thing happened to Reagan, I kept waiting for that administration's scandals to touch him and all it did was bring on his Alzheimers, Iran/Contra, inspite of the best efforts of the Dems at the time, never really touch Reagan or Bush, in spite of the fact that in 83/83 Pluto and Saturn squared Reagan's Uranus and was conjunct Bush, Sr. Saturn. There again, the press covered for them. However in 1992 both Uranus and Neptune were squaring Bush Moon/Venus square setting up a double whammy t-square, and it all washed away for him.
I could never figure out why the press kept covering for Reagan and Bush. My father felt it was the right-wing, I felt it was an attempt to protect the American people from further damage to their faith in the government. Now I think my father was right. This is a period in history and it didn't start in 2000, but I hope it will end by 2005 or 06
And oh yes Tricia "Syltherin White House" is just perfect. I am not sure Nancy that Dick Cheney is still alive, or else he is living someplace with Osama and Saddam. I've wondered if Neptune on his Sun has just erased him, or that he is truly "Voldemort" and just comes and goes under dark cover. J.K. Rawlings last Harry Potter certainly seemed to draw her inspriation from the present.
Larry, I do think the stress is Mars and its perihelion pass over earth plus Saturn in Gemini and into Cancer. In 1941 Saturn, and we entered WWII with Pearl Harbor Saturn was at the exact spot as the 2000/2001 Inauguration Saturn and then it went on into Gemini and Cancer during the war. This was a very anxiety filled time for people. It hit that point again during the early 70's, lots of anger and frustrations at that time, now look where we are again. So you take Saturn and add the perihelion of Mars and I think the summer will continue to heat up. Knowing that doesn't always help the feeling of being stretched or anxious or depressed, because we still have to live with these transits and the individual and collective experiences that come with them, but it does help to know they will pass.
I have always been amused by Carl Jung comment "if you cannot deal with the transits, you can always just sit down and wait for them to pass." I feel like that sometimes

I think one of the things that will put pressure on Bush during the periods that Nancy indicated, is the investigation into the 9/11 event. It doesn't seem to want to go away. In fact, it's heating up again.
Larry, what does Mars and Venus Aspect? Mars is going to be trining those degrees back and forth through the fall, and you could make some solid gains at this time. Course you will be tired and depressed through it, and feel as if you are slogging along, but other people (and perception is most of it in life anyway) will see you as diligent, this could be good.

Picked it up at the doctor's office yesterday and the letters to the editor were bashing Bush and calling him a liar. The pressure pot is cooking. GWB is really looking like a deer caught in the headlights.
I find it insincere to play up to the Africans, yet get his own people into slavery. Psychologically right now thru bogus terror alerts and fear. And then stripping us of our civil and human rights. I listen to him with a sense of paradox . Whatever he dishes out against others is all about himself.
Just heard on alternative radio that our soldiers are beyond the breaking point of fatigue.

Trying to make lemonade out of my lemons or current transit of Saturn to my natal chart. Or make the most of the obstacles and see them as golden opportunities to grow. Bush's War Against Evil
IN THE GOTHIC splendor of the National Cathedral, that liturgy of trauma, George W. Bush made the most stirring - and ominous - declaration of his presidency. It was Sept. 14, 2001. ''Just three days removed from these events,'' he said, ''Americans do not yet have ''the distance of history.'' But our responsibility to history is already clear: to answer these attacks and rid the world of evil.''
The statement fell on the ears of most Americans, perhaps, as mere rhetoric of the high pulpit, but as the distance of history lengthens, events show that in those few words the president redefined his raison d'etre and that of the nation - nothing less than to ''rid the world of evil.'' The unprecedented initiatives taken from Washington in the last two years are incomprehensible except in the context of this purpose.
President Bush, one sees now, meant exactly what he said. Something entirely new, for Americans, at least, is animating their government. The greatest power the earth has ever seen is now expressly mobilized against the world's most ancient mystery. What human beings have proven incapable of doing ever before, George W. Bush has taken on as his personal mission, aiming to accomplish it in one election cycle, two at most.
What the president may not know is that the worst manifestations of evil have been the blowback of efforts to be rid of it. If one can refer to the personification of evil, Satan's great trick consists in turning the fierce energy of such purification back upon itself. Across the distance of history, the most noble ambition has invariably led to the most ignoble deeds. This is because the certitude of nobility overrides the moral qualm that adheres to less transcendent enterprises. The record of this deadly paradox is written in the full range of literature, from Sophocles to Fyodor Dostoyevski to Ursula K. LeGuin, each of whom raises the perennial question: What is permitted to be done in the name of ''ridding the world of evil''?
Is lying allowed? Torture? The killing of children? Or, less drastic, the militarization of civil society? The launching of dubious wars? But wars are never dubious at their launchings. The recognition of complexity - moral as well as martial - comes only with ''the distance of history,'' and it is that perspective that has begun to press itself upon the American conscience now.
Having forthrightly set out to rid the world of evil, first in Afghanistan, then in Iraq, has the United States, willy-nilly, become an instrument of evil? Lying (weapons of mass deception). Torture (if only by US surrogates). The killing of children (''collaterally,'' but inevitably). The vulgarization of patriotism (last week's orgy of bunting). The imposition of chaos (and calling it freedom). The destruction of alliances (''First Iraq, then France''). The invitation to other nations to behave in like fashion (Goodbye, Chechnya). The inexorable escalation (''Bring 'em on!''). The made-in-Washington pantheon of mythologized enemies (first Osama, now Saddam). The transmutation of ordinary young Americans (into dead heroes). How does all of this, or any of it, ''rid the world of evil''?
Which brings us back to that Gothic cathedral of a question: What is evil anyway? Is it the impulse only of tyrants? Of enemies alone? Or is it tied to the personal entitlement onto which America, too, hangs its bunting? Is evil the thing, perhaps, that forever inclines human beings to believe that they are themselves untouched by it? Moral maturity, mellowed across the distance of history, begins in the acknowledgement that evil, whatever its primal source, resides, like a virus in its niche, in the human self. There is no ridding the world of evil for the simple fact that, shy of history's end, there is no ridding the self of it.
But there's the problem with President Bush. It is not the moral immaturity of the texts he reads. Like his callow statement in the National Cathedral, they are written by someone else. When the president speaks, unscripted, from his own moral center, what shows itself is a bottomless void.
To address concerns about the savage violence engulfing ''postwar'' Iraq with a cocksure ''Bring `em on!'' as he did last week, is to display an absence of imagination shocking in a man of such authority. It showed a lack of capacity to identify either with enraged Iraqis who must rise to such a taunt or with young GIs who must now answer for it. Even in relationship to his own soldiers, there is nothing at the core of this man but visceral meanness.
No human being with a minimal self-knowledge could speak of evil as he does, but there is no self-knowledge without a self. Even this short ''distance of history'' shows George W. Bush to be, in that sense, the selfless president, which is not a compliment. It's a warning.
Right off the bat, I hope you all will forgive me this personal question, but... I'm getting alittle scared here. The news sounds all bad for the US Sun in Cancer in 10th house - I know the US "Sun" represents our feckless leader and I want to see him fall in the worst way, but... I, too, have my Sun in the 10th in Cancer, and I'm soon going to have the very same transit that has everyone salivating for Bush's doom. So... um... should I buy an industrial-sized package of Simply Sleep and employ my Pisces/Mars avoidance techniques? Should I just go ahead and buy a plot? Any ideas on what I might be in for? And, again, I appologize for this pers. question, but yikes. Getting nervous.
Nervous Cancer - Saturn transits can be trying, but a lot depends on your natal aspect between the Sun and Saturn, and your chart as a whole. If you have a good working relationship with Saturn, i.e. you can tighten your belt and do without, you can shrink down and concentrate on the task at hand, you can discipline yourself to deal with the extra burden that usually comes, knowing it will pass when the transit is gone, you will be fine. With the Sun in your 10th you will no doubt have extra burdens placed on you in the work sphere. And some will be tedious and boring. If Capricorn rules your 4th, you may find the work stress effects your home life. It helps to anticipate it and warn your spouse or s.o. Once it passes, you will be far stronger. Periodically we all go through Saturn transits.
But what has happened to the US presidency under Bush is that is has become grossly distorted, overextended, and mired in illusions of omnipotence. Already we can see Saturn shrinking these things down to a realistic size. Remember Saturn is also hitting the US Venus, the US Jupiter, Bush's Neptune, and later, in 2004, his Moon, Jupiter and Saturn.
If Bush knew astrology, he would have said a year ago: this is not the time to plan a war. This is not the time to do dramatic changes to the economic structure of the country and hope we land on our feet. This is a time for caution and small, disciplined, belt-tightening measures. This is a time for working with others and compromising (Saturn is exalted in Libra and demands compromise). But Bush doesn't know astrology and he has acted in the worst possible way, which is why I think he will be slammed. Saturn is about service, humility, discipline, and handling burdens through inner strength. Bush is about grandiose gestures that are not well thought out and depending on his rich friends to bail him out. Saturn and Bush are not a good mix.
Also, there are several other aspects going on besides Saturn, as I mention in my article. The Uranus stataion on the US prog Sun for nearly 4 months at 29 Aquarius and Bush's progressed MC coming to its exact conjunction with natal Uranus (19 Gemini) suggest a lot of stress and a very rocky, wild ride.
I think a lot of the current tension we are seeing all around, and I am noticing it to, is that collectively we are under Saturn conjunct our collective Venus, Jupiter and soon the Sun. It is a national mood - somber, concerned, fearful, disillusioned.
In addition, as Sally pointed out, Mars is quite strong now. I am noticing more accidents and shootings in the news. I keep thinking Mars, Mars, Mars.
Regarding Cheney, the Mars station in September and October spends a lot of time in opposition to his Ascendant. I think there could be some anger directed at him, and he could get quite aggressive in response. This all falls during the Neptune station. We might also want to watch 8/23 to 9/3 when Saturn is quincunx Cheney's Sun while Neptune is conjunct. He could have some significant problems around then. Let's hope he is in court at that time.

Just saw them absolutely reaming Blair in Parliament on CNN! What a hoot! What an utter, utter delight and Bush is next, although unfortunately no-one in congress has the balls to lean across the lectern and tell him what Smith did to Blair a few minutes ago.
And then, of course, they followed that up with references to Bush being asked repeatedly in Africa about the Niger lies. And then, no kidding - on CNN! - they showed the demonstrations against Bush by Africans against him. The best one was the camera lingering on a photo of him with a little Hitler mustache sketched in.
Watch tonight's news, bet even the networks feature the same thing.

Thank you, Nancy, your words were comforting. I love astrology, and this site. I knew Bush's Sun is in his 12th, which is seemingly far worse than the 10th with T Saturn... I just started to worry (while celebrating) when it started to sound so dire. I have been pleasantly surprised at the tone on the network news, especially CBS, lately... It sounds like they are taking off the gloves, albeit one finger at a time... You were right in your "The Tide has Turned" article of a while ago, I think.
Don't mean to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but I do believe that the ultra-rich run this world at the moment, and they are the ones who basically decide who gets elected and who gets "removed." Is it possible that he's just pissing these folks off with his recklessness? If the Supreme Court and the media are controlled, what can we do to fight these people? The biggest shock to me so far is that they haven't taken over the Internet yet.
Whatever all of us have as beliefs, I think now would be a real good time to start "praying" - in whatever form that takes for you personally. There HAS to be a power greater than money and greed, or what the hell is all this for? I mean, when you really boil it all down to its essence - ? Does anyone else feel there is something really huge happening here? When you look to the deepest level?

I know they tried to manage the news cycle by having Comical Ari admit that they "might" have been in error on the purchase of uranium while Shrub was safely away doing his photo-op safari. Isn't it just too, too fitting that it comes to a head where it began - that the press finally has the balls to ask questions about it, and that he fumbled it so badly in his responses, on national and international TV, all in Africa?
Wonder what the astrocartography would be on that?

Honey, don't get all caught up in thinking Saturn is bad for you. Saturn's effects are to assist you in growing up.

I read something disturbing in an AP report this morning. This is what part of the report stated:
"The military reported that a soldier died Wednesday in what it described as a non-hostile gunshot incident. The military gave no more details...........
An American soldier attached to the 101st Airborne Division died Monday in another non-hostile gunshot incident near Balad, 55 miles north of the capital. Soldiers at an air base near Balad said on condition of anonymity that the soldier had taken his own life."
I would assume that the soldier who died on Wednesday, also committed suicide. Very sad.

Have just read a huge headline at Drudge Report that CBS is reporting Bush knew info on uranium buy in Niger was false.
Read the body of the story and senior White House officials are saying that they were informed by CIA that the info was incorrect. The National Security Team surrounding Bush decided to use the info by making sure that Bush referred to "British intelligence" being the source of the information in his State of the Union address. They knew that it would be technically correct if factually misleading. However, CBS doesn't seem to cut any slack for the boys in the White House. Simply stated they say the White House willfully and knowingly used bad information to mislead the American people regarding Saddam's nuclear capabilities.
Good Lord, someone better check the front lawn at the White House quick. It's gonna be loaded with chicken shit soon cause all them little chickens is coming home to roost!

WASHINGTON - The administration of President George W Bush is finding itself increasingly beleaguered by growing charges by retired intelligence and foreign service officers that administration hawks exaggerated the threat posed by Iraq in order to press Washington into war.
The White House was forced to admit earlier this week that Bush's assertion during his State of the Union address in late January regarding Saddam Hussein's alleged attempts to buy uranium in Africa for a supposed nuclear arms program was based on flawed intelligence and should have been omitted from the speech.
But a growing number of lawmakers and independent analysts are suggesting that the uranium report - which was actually based on crudely forged documents supposedly provided by an Italian intelligence agency - may be just the tip of the iceberg of an effort by neo-conservative and right-wing hawks centered primarily in the Pentagon and around Vice President Dick Cheney to skew the intelligence to make their case for war.
"The Bush administration did not provide an accurate picture of the military threat with respect to Iraq," according to Gregory Thielmann, who served as the director of the Strategic, Proliferation and Military Affairs Office in the State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research (INR), until last September.
Contrary to the repeated assertion by Bush and other top officials, he said, "As of March, 2003, Iraq posed no major military threat to the United States," Thielmann, a 25-year foreign service veteran, told a standing-room only press conference at the National Press Club.
He added that the administration's public statements about Iraq's biological and chemical weapons capabilities, stockpile of Scud missiles, and ties to al-Qaeda were also misleading and often based on distortions of what the intelligence community itself was saying.
His charges and the growing attention being paid to them come on the heels of similar charges by another retired foreign service officer, ambassador Joseph Wilson, who had been sent by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to Niger to check out the reports of Iraq's purchase of uranium "yellowcake".

I'm glad people like the Slytherin analogy, I've thought of them that way for a while. The rightwing is on the Dark side of things to me, frankly, and they have many parallels these days with a Slytherin type ethos: greedy, cynical, corrupt, violent, vengeful, power-mad, ruthless, imperialistic, elitist and bigoted. I am an avid Democrat and really hate Bush, but I have some doubts about whether Bush really did knowinly lie and mislead the American people regarding WMD. Surely he would know that he would be found out once we invaded Iraq and found none. Likewise for the recent Niger/uranium thing. If he talked about it in his State of the Union Speech knowing that the claims were false, why wouldn't he believe he would be exposed by the media, etc.? Was it just hubris, ignorance, or was he being lied to by his own people? Can anyone tell by looking at his transits and progressions leading up to the State of the Union address?

Although I'm not one to divine info from transits and the like, I do believe Bush knowingly lied to the US. Why would he be worried about a media he's had in his back pocket since 2000? I sincerely believe he thought the euphoria Americans would surely feel at having won the "war" would erase any doubts there might have been about WMDs. And if anyone did ask about WMDs, he'd label them Un-American and that would, in itself, besmirch their character enough as to make them someone not to listen to. Unfortunately, he's an amateur at this game and makes too many big mistakes, is much too arrogant, and isn't intellectually curious enough to have it work effectively.
Would definitely enjoy someone looking at transits and such as you first requested. Could be interesting.

My analysis is that George Bush had no option but to keep George Tenet on as Director, because George Tenet had warned Bush repeatedly, for months and months before September 11, that something very bad was about to happen.

It's ironic, but I remember when Powell(I believe), was making his now infamous speech at the UN about all the intelligence that they had gathered to make their case for attacking Iraq, they had Tentet, highly visible, sitting in the seat directly behind the speaker, as if to infer that he concurred with all the evidence that was being presented, and lend even more credibility to Powell's speech. The United Nations has begun a top-level investigation into the bugging of its delegations by the United States, first revealed in The Observer last week.
Sources in the office of UN Secretary General Kofi Annan confirmed last night that the spying operation had already been discussed at the UN's counter-terrorism committee and will be further investigated.
The news comes as British police confirmed the arrest of a 28-year-old woman working at the top secret Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) on suspicion of contravening the Official Secrets Act.
Last week The Observer published details of a memo sent by Frank Koza, Defence Chief of Staff (Regional Targets) at the US National Security Agency, which monitors international communications. The memo ordered an intelligence 'surge' directed against Angola, Cameroon, Chile, Bulgaria and Guinea with 'extra focus on Pakistan UN matters'. The 'dirty tricks' operation was designed to win votes in favour of intervention in Iraq.

White House spokesman Ari Fleischer and Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld were both challenged about the operation last week, but said they could not comment on security matters.
The operation is thought to have been authorised by US National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, but American intelligence experts told The Observer that a decision of this kind would also have involved Donald Rumsfeld, CIA director George Tenet and NSA chief General Michael Hayden.
President Bush himself would have been informed at one of the daily intelligence briefings held every morning at the White House.

Good point imo, Lucy. One of the things Neptune is about is the process of DISillusionment... having illusions taken away to establish a firmer basis of reality. One clear influence in all of this is Neptune, conjunct the Sun in the Inaugural. It is pervasive in this administration. Bush and Rummy have a Jupiter Neptune conjunction that is very exact in their composite, Rummy has one in his progressed chart that is exact, and Bush has had Neptune opposing his Leo stellium moving on to quincunx his Sun since he began his Illegal Regime. Under Neptune, you are carried away with the usually bogus "truth" of your perceptions. You just can't grasp all evidence to the contrary. It kind of bounces off. This administration has been drunk on its ideology and unable to absorb any evidence to the contrary, both in economic policy and in its preemptive war to cement American power. It is quite possible that Cheney and Rove are more on the dark side of things and that Junior is more in the totally deluded end of things. In one of my earlier comments, I referred to George Tenet being made to sit directly behind Powell at the UN when he gave his speech. I couldn't remember the date, but he verifies it as being Feb. 5th and refers to Tenet as "sitting right behind Colin Powell like a potted plant". That is so funny, and so apt, because he was actually "planted" in that seat on purpose. He also refers to Tenet as having become a "lapdog". Let's see if this lapdog will risk putting his position on the line by speaking up in the interest of truth.

I think the time of reckoning is close at hand for the Bush Administration. I don't know if anyone has noticed, but since President Bush took office, he has been plagued by one disaster after another(natural or otherwise), and has had nothing but problems.
