The Tide Has Turned
The sharks are circling. No weapons of mass destruction have been found, and the world is wondering if it has been colossally duped by the right wing cabal in the Oval Office. Intelligence agents are coming forward in droves to protest the blatant dishonesty used by the administration to foist its war on the American people. It seems the indisputable “facts” concerning huge caches of diabolical and destructive weaponry have been manipulated, exaggerated, or even made up.
In order to circumvent the more traditional sources of information in the CIA and the Pentagon, Donald Rumsfeld, in late 2001, created his own intelligence cadre, the Pentagon’s Office of Special Plans. Run by fellow neoconservative Paul Wolfowitz, this intelligence agency was spawned specifically to find evidence of Saddam’s connection to al Qaida and prove that the dictator harbored a huge arsenal of weapons of mass destruction. All contradictory indications were studiously ignored. And it was largely on this spurious “evidence” that the administration shrilly promulgated its case for war.
We have previously discussed Rumsfeld’s progressed Jupiter conjunction to progressed Neptune, which culminates this fall, after having increased in potency for the past six years. This aspect suggests his inability to differentiate his ideology (9th house placement) from reality, his penchant to delude himself and others based on a fantasy perception of truth. In addition, it lends a grandiosity and unrealistic confidence to his understanding of unfolding events.
Another aspect with a similar impact is the current transit of Neptune opposite Rumsfeld’s natal 9th house Mercury, spanning from February 2003 through early January 2004. This transit also brings a self-delusional quality to Rumsfeld’s thinking, giving it the ideological tinge of the 9th house. Taken together, these two configurations suggest that Rumsfeld’s appraisal of events and military plans can be dangerously far from realistic or pragmatic, and instead reflect self-deception, an arrogant optimism, and an ideological component that is downright dangerous.
The current crisis in confidence in the Bush administration that is emerging as the country and the world begin to doubt the “intelligence” on which the war was based, and especially Rumsfeld’s hand in it, can be seen in the Secretary of Defense’s chart. A multitude of Saturn transits are impacting him from May 27 through June 23, 2003, suggesting that this will be a time of increasing restraint on his more grandiose impulses, as well as a time of diminishing popularity and stature. Currently Saturn is squaring Rumsfeld’s Midheaven, soon to be followed by Saturn conjunct his natal Venus, square his natal Moon, and quincunx his natal Saturn.
Interestingly, we find indications in both the US chart and the Inaugural chart that suggest that this time of decreasing support and growing mistrust also impacts the administration. Saturn will be quincunx the Inaugural Sun from June 2 through June 11, followed by Saturn square the US Midheaven from June 11 through June 19, 2003. It would seem that the clamor about the deceptive intelligence used to manipulate and inflame people’s fears will continue through most of June, only building in intensity. Not coincidentally, Karl Rove seems to be struggling and despondent during almost the same period, June 12 through June 27, with Saturn square his natal Saturn and opposite his natal Sun. This can only reflect shrinking public support for the Undressed Emperor.
The outrage over fabricated WMD is unlikely to be resolved in late June, but may be moved to a smoldering location in the background while other more pressing concerns crowd it out of the headlines. A protracted malaise may be creeping across the land by then, as seemingly intractable problems weigh down on the country. The economy may seem to be increasingly mired in difficulty around this time and other more severe issues may also be surfacing. The period from June 21 through June 27 may bring some very painful, difficult, and possibly violent events that could cast their shadow into a tumultuous July. This is indicated by Saturn crossing the US Venus (strongly triggered by the Saturn/Sun conjunction of June 23-24) and the Mars/Uranus conjunction quincunx the US Midheaven.
The usually buoyant, optimistic American spirit will be somewhat muted in late June and July 2003 as Saturn crosses the US Venus and, a few weeks later, the US Jupiter. Economic and other difficulties will be weighing heavily. Into this atmosphere, an aggressive whirlwind by the administration suddenly begins on or around July 11 or 12. At this point, Bush and Rumsfeld are likely to launch us into a bellicose, bold, and possibly military series of events that last at least until mid-August. Bush may actually retrieve some of his lost popularity briefly, from July 14 through 19, when Jupiter crosses his Venus, but this will rapidly diminish thereafter.
The astrological signature of these militant and disruptive events from mid-July through mid-August includes: transiting Mars stationary opposite Bush’s progressed Sun/natal Mars; transiting Mars stationary square Rumsfeld’s Ascendant; transiting Mars square US Uranus; and transiting Uranus stationary square Inaugural Jupiter (one of the same aspects that occurred during Gulf War ll). Taken together, these aspects suggest aggressive, forceful, and hawkish action on the part of the administration beginning in mid-July.
With the current exposure of dishonesty used to agitate support for its misbegotten war in Iraq, as well as its incredibly poor post-war planning, the administration no longer seems so invulnerable. It will soon become apparent that the tide has turned. Despite whatever wag-the-dog action is taken to distract the masses this summer, by September 2003, and through the remainder of the year, a steady drumbeat of turmoil and difficulty will unfold for the administration. Bush and his minions will have created an economic quagmire at home, as well as numerous quagmires abroad, diplomatically and militarily. The Bush administration’s ideological arrogance, blind and deaf to all rational discourse, will have brought itself and the country to a dark and critical juncture by year’s end.

Rumsfeld is now in the process of trying to shove off the Quantanamo problem of all those POW's who are not POW's, just captives held without cause in Cuba by the US. Seems that it's been a complete failure. Surprise, religious fanatics grow more religious in prison, not become double-agents.

Wouldn't it be ironic if after enriching themselves by looting the treasury, corporate conservatives could no longer leave the country where they had become pariah, because they had become so notorious, that the hatred toward them was even greater abroad? After the years it took to formulate this plan to take the most powerful country in the world, (and there is no doubt, that is the only reason it is us they targeted) I am sure they will be as ruthless as necessary. My prayer is that the rest of the world realizes that it is not the majority of the American people, but rather a vicious minority who has accomplished a coup d'état. For most Americans this is unthinkable. In the face of the entire federal government and the media we are stymied.

well, the admin is already saying or having the repug senators say, yeah we might have been duped by 'intelligence' acting as if it wasn't them...but the cia people and the like went on record LAST WEEK saying the admin didn't consult them but the iraqi exiles...
so at best the admin is going to come off looking "stupid" for believing "iraqi exiles"..
what i'm trying to say is it's not enough for dem senators to say, they lied to the public, they have to give the motive, right in the same sentence (corporate contracts.) if not it just looks like some 'bad people' gave our poor president, admin, and nation 'bad info' and put 'our troops' in danger for 'no reason'..that's not enough to bring the admin down. it COULD stop the imperialistic military machine: "well are you sure this time?" but it won't bring down the presidency..

but a snow ball effect could be useful in convincing the average joe who watches fox and doesn't care to find out if he's watching the truth...

I disagree with Roxanne and agree with Nancy. Something has changed. It's still pretty subtle, but it seems to be building steam. I think the Bush Caesar Empire has jumped the shark, to use a pop-culture term. The no-WMDs found in Iraq, plus the stagnating economy, plus all those Bush-Cheney cronies getting no-bid contracts to "rebuild" Iraq and pump out the oil, plus Bush's stupid Leni Riefenstahlian "Top Gump" moment on the USS Abraham Lincoln, which provided a context to put his AWOL National Guard record into play, plus the death toll in Iraq of American armed service men and women (never mind the innocent Iraqis who died) so that a bunch of larcenous Texas energy-biz criminals could steal a country's oil, are all starting to add up. Factor in the brilliant tax cut, and a number of other stupidities and, well, gee, I smell some toast burning, don't you?
Thank you Nancy...it does seem to be a very mixed bag ahead - what a dog fight - it just goes on and on even though everyone is tired of it...I do see the potential that these folks who think there is a superior race will continue to think this but will not be able to stay in power...so do they wait another thirty years to prepare the next generation for their plan? - I need to remember why Neptune relates to oil...I am trying to remember when Nixon resigned and what he thought of his actions as the years passed beyond his power days. I agree with Roxanne that it's hard to see that the tide has changed. Seems like the same-old same-old to me. We may hope that others see what we perceive to be "changes" such as what Robert wrote about, but the vast majority of Bush supporters will need a lot more than this to change their views of him and hopefully vote him out of office. Going to take a huge major event or scandal to get people to wake up or the news media to start reporting things fairly. Right now all we see is pro-Bush everything. Even his current trip abroad shows photos of him meeting with smiling world leaders who were very vocal about being against this war and yet from their smiling faces you almost expect to see them roasting marshmallows and singing Kumbaya around the meeting campfire. What we need is more Democrats speaking up and growing a spine or we are doomed to have Bush in for another term. I agree with Roxanne that another terrorist attack here would only rally even more support for the President which would cinch his reelection. People here don't want to wake up to the truth unless it's being spewed at them from Fox News and that's going to be a long time coming. Sorry to say I don't see the tide changing - but I'd be happy to be proven wrong!
It breaks my heart to say... I have to agree with Rox and Siobhan - WE know about all this scandal - but most people don't, and unless the media steps up, they probably won't. Things are being leaked, but the coverage they are getting on the networks is minimal, and it always ends with a sugar-coated little ".... but most people, according to our most recent poll, still support the war and the president..." ad nauseum. People are not getting the truth. Is there a single chart that represents the US media? (Sorry if that's a stupid question) - I know there are certain areas of the US chart and the Inaugural chart that would represent the media - do any of you see some huge, magnificent change coming to those points any time soon? We are all hoping and praying that the tide WILL turn, and it HAS to eventually. When the pendulum has swung this far in one direction, it can only come back on itself. But I'm not yet convinced that the average person who doesn't read the same news sources that we all do, "gets" it yet. Soon, I hope.
Speaking of Fox News . . . It might be interesting to look at Brit Hume's, Shannity's and Tony Snow's transits through the rest of this year and next year . . . it may give a clue if they are "forced" to start reporting things they don't want to or whether they will continue to put a ridiculous spin on things. Just a thought. I don't have their birth times.
You all have such good points. It will take an awful scandal to bring down the Crown Prince, he is very beloved in the right wing ultra-conservative world. But we must remember it all starts with the little leaks and builds and builds and escalates, like Nixon's Watergate scandal, which happened the last time Saturn was visiting Cancer.

Re: The FCC. We all knew this was going to happen. The news never reported this as a major story so most likely the majority of people never even knew this was an issue they had a voice in. Seems we don't have much control over anything anymore because the news is biased and untrustworthy and from now on it's just going to get worse. Wish there was something we could all hang onto at this moment but seems the news just gets worse and worse every day. No bright star on the horizon on any of these issues! Makes you think people here just don't give a damn anymore about truth and only react when it hurts their own pocketbooks! Very discouraging to say the least.
Siobhan, that could very well be the key, " ... only react when it hurts their own pocketbooks!" Have you considered it might be the economy that wakes people up? What if we actually went into a depression, with the government coffers emptied? I don't like this scenario one bit, but it is possible. Just a thought. It is more probably something else.
This WMD problem DOES seem to have legs to me . . . they were talking about it just now on CNN. This could blow up, with Blair the first one to go down because of it. The European influence, if they are outraged about it, will seep into the American psyche eventually. The media will have no other choice but to start reporting the lies and atrocities of this administration.

I'm hoping the tide has turned. Bush's approval ratings are dropping (he's at 61 percent in the most recent Newsweek poll), so his postwar is virtually gone. It may take time for the WMD issue to resonate; I don't think it's going away.

Also, the "Another Presidential Scandal?" article on An Astrologer's Perspective (link at right) does say that the last time this particular transit happened was when Clinton got tarred and feathered for having a romp with an intern (did anyone DIE? no. Did THOUSANDS die? no.) But the article says that THIS time around, it will be much worse, as the transit is more powerful this time. THe FCC thing is just another blow to the gut, but here's hoping that the media, while they are still not QUITE monopolized, will spill it before people start showing up at our doors with clipboards, asking, "Vaya issss youah flag?"

btw, thanks for putting up Rove's chart. I don't think that transiting Pluto atop his natal Chiron in a few years will be kind to him. It might look like it at first glance, seeing that transiting Pluto is coming into a trine with natal, that natal Chiron has, loosely. But look at the nodes, Pluto squaring the nodes starting in 2005.
The Mercury opposite Moon in Cancer, that's where he gets his view of the masses whom he manipulates.
But I don't see Rove's life getting easy up ahead. The Saturn transit across Cancer starts off by making a T-square with natal Saturn and opposite Sun-- that's gonna really hurt.
I'm as skeptical as some of the others regarding Bush, but when you think it's nearly impossible, is when it usually happens. Plus, it's always key to look at those around the politician, the wife, the cheif advisor.
Rove's not having fun this summer. What's really interesting, is that in the early/middle 70's is when Rove got hooked up with the Bush's, and that's hitting a Saturn return, so some sort of ending may be coming up here.

Remember, we are coming off of the Jupiter Neptune opposition right now. Except for squaring Rummy's MC, Saturn hasn't hit yet. The seeds of huge difficulties for the administration have been planted, I think, by the missing WMD and the reports of exaggeration and deceit, as well as by the false hopes for a pacified and content Iraq. Jupiter Neptune is making everything unclear and dramatic - either dramatically awful (FCC ruling) or incredibly hopeful (Bush ME meetings). Both may end up as a wash when the the transit wanes. The Senate is talking about blocking the FCC, and the Middle East is the Middle East.
But getting back to Saturn, by tomorrow it enters Cancer. It is also now just enetering the orb of a quincunx to the Inaugural Sun. By the 11th it will begin squaring the US MC. From here on out, we get one wave of Saturn after another for the country or the president or his advisors. At times, when Saturn is a little less strong, we get lots of Mars aspects - wag the dog battles or wars or perhaps Bush on the warpath with everyone. But it keeps coming back to Saturn. And Saturn forces you on your knees if you have been overreaching, arrogant or indulgent.(i.e., the Petulant Emperor) I think we will see that Bush can't bounce back so easily from now on. But it has barely begun, so stay tuned.

My sense is that all the plates that they are spinning will soon begin to fall. Gravity wins again.....
