Saturn Ingress into Cancer; Periehlion; US & Bush

Saturn is currently conjoining the Fixed Star Menkalinin (29 Gem 57) in the Charioteer constellation. In mythology The Charioteer represents Phaëthon who lost control and drove the Sun Chariot to close to the earth. Each time that Saturn ingresses into Cancer, it will have enter the sign conjunct the above mentioned fixed star, Menkalinin, and traveling through the mythology of The Charioteer constellation.

Phaëthon was son of Helios, god of the sun. Helios had rashly promised to grant his son anything he wished, and Phaëthon chose to drive a chariot of the sun across the sky. Vainly, Helios tried to explain to him that no mortal could drive the chariot; Phaëthon, however insisted that his father keep his promise. Helios explained the dreadful hazards but reluctantly yielded. Soon Phaëthon realized that his father had been right. Terrified, he lost control of the horses, and driving too near the Earth set it on fire. To save the world from utter destruction, the god Zeus (Jupiter) hurled his thunderbolt at the rash young driver, killing him instantly.

So his failure is one of over-reach. 'As above, so below' comes to mind. I've collected some historical notes along the way to share here, and it's all about Saturn ingressing and then transiting through Cancer.

The ingress of Saturn into Cancer, historically, is notable:

August 3rd, 1973 (Ingress), January 7th, 1974 (Rx), April 19th 1974 (D)

June 19, 1973 - The U.S. Congress passes the Case-Church Amendment which forbids any further U.S. military involvement in Southeast Asia, effective August 15, 1973. The veto-proof vote is 278-124 in the House and 64-26 in the Senate.

July 9, 1973--Time Magazine Cover : Picture of John Dean "Can Nixon Survive Dean?"

November 7, 1973 - Congress passes the War Powers Resolution requiring the President to obtain the support of Congress within 90 days of sending American troops abroad.

August 9, 1974 - Richard Nixon resigns.

June 21st, '44

June 6, 1944 - D-Day landings.

August 25th, 1914 (Ingress), December 7th, 1914 (Rx), May, 12th, 1915 (D)

August, 1st, 1914 Outbreak of World War I; German declaration of war on Russia; August 4th Wilson proclaims US neutrality; December 21st, 1914, the First German air raid on Britain. That war lasts until June, 28th, 1919 with the Treaty of Versailles signed in Hall of Mirrors at Versailles.

1886

I don't have the exact dates, but here's a few symbolic events then:

1885-1886 - The final chapter in the Apache War of 1876-86. In 1885 Geronimo and his followers broke away from supression. But constant harassment by US forces led to their surrender a year later. In 1886 Geronimo surrenders. Geronimo and other Apache were sent to a federal prison in Florida. Later Geronimo was allowed to return to the West, where he lived out his life near Fort Sill, Oklahoma (btw, it is the symbolic skull of Geromimo that Skull & Bones use in ritual).

1886 - Labor protests in Haymarket Square in Chicago, American Fed. of Labor (led by Samuel Gompers) formed.

1886 - Robert Louis Stevenson publishes "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde."

1885 - Charles Aderton invented "Dr Pepper" in Waco, Texas.

Alongside the ingress, Saturn enters into perhelion shortly thereafter. Gary P. Caton wrote about this in a recent article on TMA, that I'll quote from:

[The Saturn-Pluto opposition] seemed to be so powerful and dominant, even when compared to other Saturn-Pluto events. My search for the third factor, beyond planet and aspect, led me to realize that both of these planets are relatively close to perihelion -- the point in a planet's orbit where it is closest to the Sun...

Saturn will reach perihelion on July 26, at nearly 4 Cancer. Mars reaches perihelion on August 30, just past 6 Pisces and in trine to Saturn. (snip) Uranus enters Pisces! Saturn reaches his opining trine with Uranus on June 24, at nearly 3 Cancer-Pisces. So, we have Mars at perihelion, conjunct Uranus, and both trine Saturn at perihelion. Call me politically incorrect, but I do not see see these three malefics conjuring up the second coming of the "Summer of Love."

In fact, the last time that Mars and Saturn were in perihelion during the same year was in 1915 during World War I (when the Saturn-Pluto conjucntion was sesquiquadrate Uranus). That year, hundreds of thousands of Armenians were massacred by the turks, and the Germans first used poison gas as a weapon at the second Battle of Ypres. Currently, it certainly seems as though Saturn-Pluto has the world poised for history to repeat itself, with the war machines warmed up and at the ready....

The following is a brief outline of the Saturn periehlion years of this past century. Mars at aphelion seems to have a mitigating effect, bringing out Saturn's limiting principle rather than inflaming his tyrannical side, as when Mars is at perihelion. However, Saturn's themes of structure and perfection can still be seen. The genetic and nuclear issues are particularly disturbing when we factor in Uranus in Pisces in 2003.

* Arms talks (Jun 27 - Jul 3): President Nixon and Premier Brezhnev meet in Moscow to discuss arms limitations

* Turkish atrocities (Jul 20): Turks murder 5,000+ and rape 1,000+ civilians in Cyprus; some victims have never been found

* Genetic engineering banned (July): The National Academy of SAciences calls for ban on some types of genetic engineering, after DNA cloning and recombinant DNA research show the possiblity of interspecies viability -- thus opening the door for biological (bacterial and viral) weapons

Here are a couple of quotes on the US & Bush with Saturn upcoming, by Nancy Waterman & Curtis Manwaring:

The US Sun is natally square to a 10th house Saturn, also a position of hubris that periodically needs humbling. "A rise to the top followed by a fall."

Every time Saturn goes through Cancer it not only conjuncts the US Sun but it squares the US Saturn. Thus we have two different ways of reading the Saturn into Cancer transit that give the same outcome - the tendency to overreach by the Chief Executive (the Sun) and the resultant painful contraction and lessons that result.

The biggest thing to hit the US chart in 2003 and 2004 is Saturn. Saturn on the US Venus/Jupiter, one pass; Saturn on the US Sun, two passes; tertiary progressed Saturn opposite the US Sun, building from February through October 2003; Saturn square the US Saturn by tertiary progression, February through early November 2004. These suggest to me very difficult times for the economy - Saturn rules the 2nd house of finance and resources (oil?), and the Sun is in the 8th house of investments. It also suggests a time of loss, grieving, and learning not to overreach, lessons in hubris (natal Saturn is in the 10th house). It further implies problems for the president. Nixon resigned when Saturn was on the US Sun. It can be a time of national sorrow in many ways.

As Saturn enters Cancer it also enters Bush's 12th (whole sign) house. This area has to do with what Bush is most likely to neglect and can lead to his undoing. So Bush will probably not be inclined to put great attention to environmental issues, womens issues, etc... Yet he has put in much effort in the area of homeland security which is on the same astrological subject.

Will this indicate that he will drop this issue because of the agnosia associated with Saturn? Or will he overemphasize the security aspect of it? In hellenistic astrology, Saturn is in joy here because it likes to create agnosia. It is a natural position for Saturn to express it's inherent blackness/neglectfulness.

Also Paulus and others call the 12th place the evil daimon. Schmidt says that this represents the personal tutilary (sp?) deity that tries to lead one astray. As Saturn is lord of Bush's 6th/7th houses, and Saturn is administering for these affairs (especially the 7th of foreign powers), does this mean that his preoccupation with foreign policy will lead him astray in these other matters already stated above?

I just hope whatever happens will wipe the smirk off Brit Hume's and Tony Snow's faces!! (I caught their program today for a few minutes by mistake, how smirky smug they are). I was scanning the Readers' Forum at the Dell Horoscope website, and there was mention of an article in the February 2001 issue of the Dell Horoscope magazine by Mary Jarvis Dell, entitled "The Inauguration Chart: A Rocky Road Ahead for the New President" which was purported to contain many accurate predictions for President Bush's term in office. Morgana, thanks for the link. I have found the Dragoon Mt's, and Cochise Stronghold in particular, to have one hell of a 'fight or flight' feel. It's quite a place.

Well, I hope I don't string it out too long on completion of the next article. One of the things that I feel is coming (and it's going to be a war; but not the kind you might first think of), in late Summer, early Fall, is judicial retirement. The astrology seems to me to suggest that the USSC is about to experience at least one vacancy, and that it could be the most liberal member, John Paul Stevens. I'll show how Saturn's transits with Bush tie into this...

Vis, Yes it does have an incredible feel to it, my father was born there (Dragoon), he took me there as a child but failed to tell me the significance.
I'm beyond fascinated at the moment.
Rove got rid of Lott to put Frist in place, who inturn is working to shutdown the Senate and hobble it as the House is hobbled. Then 'The People' have no voice (let alone jobs, food or medical care). Gotta stop the re-elect Rove campaign.

Sally, when you complete your analysis on the chances of the rest of the Democratic candidates, would it be possible to mention Mary Landrieu, senator from Louisiana who is talked about as a VP nominee? Somewhere I read, maybe it was here, that she and John Kerry have natal Sag at about the same degree, which is a square to Libra rising or something in W's chart, which would seem to make them a formidable team. i would like to share another thing --
i had a vision just last weekend that i think is very important that i'd like to share. for some reason, while washing the dishes, i thought of lot's wife. now i am a born again christian, but i don't walk around 24 hours a day thinking about the bible, sadly for me...so the thought of why this came to my head was interesting to me as a sign..and i figured it out, it's a sign God wants me share with all of us here..
why was lot's wife not allowed to turn around and see the evil doers being destroyed? i always thought it was too hard on the eyes, and psych, but now i realize it all has to do with gloating ..revenge..i think the message is that hate, all hate is poison, and as much as we all want to see bush rummy rice cheney and rove ground into mincemeat, it is poisonous to feel this way..we should know in our hearts that God will take care of them and be content to move forward. it's hard i know, especially for me, being an italian, but it's really no good for our souls to lust for their destruction. just their departure from our lives and so that we can keep walking.
i shared this with my husband, who brought up george wallace. had wallace been killed, instead of crippled, he would have never lived to see the err of his ways, repent, and end up supporting jackson for president in 88.
bushie is a mis-led man with loads of demons..he thinks he has god, but he has satan, yet if he falls and lives he may learn the difference, and that will be one less poisonous soul here and in hell...

Gee, Roxanne, you hit that one right on the nail. I have hated Bush so bad since the fraudulent selection of 2000, but I have come to learn that it only hurting me. I still want to throw up every time I see him, which seems to be a lot lately, with all those people adoring him. So I have decided to let go of my hate. Looking at the transits over the next 18 months, I think I even feel sorry for him. He will get his due one way or the other. We all need to think more positively and concentrate/dream of a day soon when we have a leader who is compassionate and fair-minded with the the best interests of the nation as a whole in his heart. It will happen.
