Excerpt from a speech delivered in 1933 by Maj. General Smedley Butler, USMC. General Butler was awarded the Medal of Honor twice. Once in 1914 and 1917, and described by General Douglas MacArthur as “one of the really great generals in American History. The following is a quote from General Butler.
“War is just a racket. A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of people. Only a small inside group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few at the expense of the masses. During the years I served, I had, as the boys in the back room would say, “a swell racket. Looking back on it, I feel that I could have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.”
I believe “drunk on power” is an appropriate phrase to apply to our current White House occupants. Right now I believe they are looking at a ladder and Syria is the next rung. They can make a case and will try to make a case on Syria as a terrorist nation just as they made the case on Iraq; only I believe Syria will put up a more strenuous fight. It won’t be the shameful “war” of Afghanistan or Iraq and I would say July, August and September will be when all that heats up. But Syria is only another step on the ladder with OPEC the prize at the top, if this administration gets to the top.
Nearly every OPEC nation in the Middle East with the exception of Qatar and Kuwait has a 19 degree Mutable Sign, feeding into Pluto at 19 Sagittarius conjunct the ‘Black Hole’ Ereshkigal, and GWB Uranus at 19 Gemini. The finale will be in 2004 when GWB’s progressed Midheaven and progressed Uranus comes to rest in a square to OPEC’s Sun.
To get from here to there Syria must fall. Even though they are not an OPEC Nation they, with Saudi Arabia hold the most military might to stand off the US and in case you didn’t see the article, the MOAB Bomb is being moved to the Middle East. This is the reason for the resurrection of Star Wars. Not because of what Iraq or Afghanistan had in their arsenal but because of what China and Russia and Saudi’s and Syria have in theirs. These countries will fight against having the entire Middle East fall into the hands of the US. This coup has been in the works for a long time, at least since Reagan and it’s doubtful that even Reagan knew he was being played as a dupe for Empire Building.
Afghanistan (July 17, 1973 – 12:00am Kabul) was and is pivotal to controlling the Middle East, hence it was the easiest and first to fall, next Iraq, this leaves Iran (who have their own internal domestic issues possibly causing a political change in the near future), which is now hemmed in by US Military on its borders. After Iraq comes Syria because with Israel as an ally, Saudi Arabia will have US Troops surrounding their borders. Remember Bush pledging “eternal friendship” to the Saudi’s. Believe me Bush won’t forget that little humiliating bit of groveling.
There is an interesting little bit of information regarding Iraq regarding their Foundation Chart (07/31/762 in Baghdad) In 762 The Caliph of Iraq, al-Mansur commissioned his astrologer/astronomer, Nawbakht to pick a perfect astrological date to build his capital, in consultation with Masha allah, another astrologer, Nawbakht the Persian, picked July 31, 762 at 2:40 pm. Nawbakht recorded the exact date and time, placing Jupiter on the Ascendant at 8 degrees Sagittarius, opposing Mars at 6 degrees Gemini (which aspects the US Uranus in Gemini) Venus, Neptune, Mercury, are all in Cancer, conjunct the US Venus, Jupiter, Sun and Mercury respectively. The Mercury in Iraq's Foundation chart is in opposition to the US Pluto and this weeks Full Moon squares the oppostion, setting up a grand cardnial square. Is there a message buried in the antiquity of Iraq for America? One we should heed?
The most interesting of the connections to the 762 chart of Baghdad, referred to, as Babylon in the Bible, is their North Node conjuncts the US Pluto. Looking at the US Chart and the Baghdad Foundation Chart one wonders if America is the famous Whore of Babylon. Again, the upcoming Full Moon falls exactly across the 762 Chart’s Moon and squares that North Node. The Solar Eclipse of May 31st this year at 9 degrees Gemini falls across their Mars and Jupiter axis, and conjoins the US Uranus. Most importantly, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalpse are riding, the Four Guardians of the Heavens. and Aldebaran, the Watcher of the East, the fixed star the Hebrews called "God's Eye" is leading the pack.
Aldebaran 8 Degrees Gemini a royal star with Archangel Michael, the Military Commander of the Heavenly Host will be, on the day of the Solar Eclipse May 31st, joined by Antares, Watcher of the West at 9 degrees Sagittarius. The Watcher of the South, Fomalhaut, has just welcomed Uranus to ride with him at 2 degrees Pisces. Only Regulas, Watcher of the North at 28 degrees Leo is holding back for now.
The Lunar Eclipse of May 16th at 25 degrees Scorpio falls upon their Pluto. Could this signal the gods passing Babylon off to the “Whore?” The items the Iraqi Museum housed was considered the “cradle of civilization,” was the 7,000 years of history looted from Baghdad’s museum an omen to its ignoble end, with another chapter on the horizon? Remember it is the Archangel Michael, Military Commander of the Heavenly Host who is leading the charge this May.
It’s for certain with George Bush’s Saturn conjunct both the US Mercury and Baghdad’s Mercury a repression of dissent will be stifled as long as Bush is President, I also believe that Baghdad is Bush’s waterloo in some manner.
In Vedic Astrology (which actually only includes planets up to Saturn) there is an aspect called Kal Sarpa Yoga, meaning all planets from the Sun to Saturn are contained between the Nodes, with the North Node on one end and South Node on the other, creating a hemmed in quality. They may experience success but it will be after a great psychological struggle and they pay a very heavy price for past Karma and their beliefs. Nelson Mandela is a good example of one who paid that price and moved beyond to his higher spiritual self. The Kal Sarpa does not deny success it simply places extreme obstacles in a person’s path. Unexplained obstacles. Pluto was not discovered when Hindu astrology was written but it exists as an impulse in Hindu astrology much as the Arabic parts influence, and Pluto is conjunct the karmic South Node of Bush’s chart. I say again, GWB’s problems have just begun, and several of those problems will manifest as psychological in nature.
Saturn in Syria’s chart exactly conjuncts the US Mars, will possibly be able to restrict the US march toward war with them, at least for awhile.
May 31st is rapidly approaching and the 9 degree Gemini Eclipse hits the US and all the “king’s men.” In the 2001 Inauguration Chart the Moon is conjunct GWB’s South Node and transiting Pluto is just sitting there letting us feel the karma being imposed upon us by this President. That Inaugural Moon conjunct GWB’s South Node shows us where we are being sucked in as a nation, or where they are trying to suck us in.
Carl Jung, the great psychologist of the 19th and 20th Century said, “87 percent of all cultures are herd mentality, doing what they are told. Eleven or twelve percent transform and help to move the “herd” forward toward progressive evolution, and one or two percent transcend." Those are people such as Christ, Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr., Mother Teresa, Buddha, Mohammad, etc. People such as these show the way toward the true spiritual being.
Those of you who see what is happening, and that’s all of you who visit this site, plus others, are in the eleven, twelve percent who have transformed. As hard as it seems at times to be outside the herd, it is incumbent upon the transformed group to help others with as much compassion as possible to see the problem with being stuck in a quagmire of the past.
What is the ultimate purpose of needing to experience this kind of muck and mire yet once more in history? I don’t know. I don’t know why we had to experience Attila the Hun, Hitler, Stalin and a host of other dictators, but I do know it serves a purpose and that purpose draws a line between the light of the world and the dark of the world.
Will George W. Bush and his thugs fall? YES, but not on the same time-line of the eleven/twelve percent. It will be the time-line of the herd, and when they decide they don’t want to be part of Bush’s karma, so far 70 percent of them haven’t decided. However, according to Jung’s statistics, at least 17 percent of the 87 percent have awakened. This is good news.

Does anyone here know anything about Planet X, also known as Nibiru, which is twice the size of Jupiter) entering our Solar System in May?? From what I've read ( Do a Google search...much info available) I cannot help but think that this Planet is going to be instrumental in bringing sanity back Planet back to Planet Earth!
I am not shocked or dismayed over Bush, I get angry at his obvious power plays and his policies, but petty tyrants have existed throughtout the world from the beginning of time. School yard bullys grown up. I am however shocked over the American people and trying to figure out what on earth is the matter with 70 percent of us and why the Democrats have failed the people and run with their tail between their legs. Claudia Dikinis says that when Saturn goes out of Gemini the restriction of the press will lift and I believe that. The gloves came off the last time Saturn left Gemini and the press was no longer the least bit helpful to Nixon. There has been scandal after scandal since Bush took office and anyone of these scandals could bring down his presidency but we the people simply turn our heads, and it's got to be more than the conjunctions of Bush and US Sun.
I can't help but think this is a karmic point in history and something that is supposed to happen. The truth of everything will all come out eventually, including Bush's involvement in all of this mess. But Pluto in the first house calls for a restructuring of the national consciousness, and we will be right here in this mess until that happens and we will have our consciousness "restructured" no matter what it takes. Right now I feel as if we are seeing the worst of ourselves.

As you said Nibiru is supposed to pass very close earth and there is some question whether it will hit the earth or just pass by. Mars is moving into the closest it's been to earth in 73,000 years, the last time that happened the largest volcano eruption ever took place in Sumaria. I agree with you. there will be a change in consciousness but I don't think it will be an easy one. Mr. Bush is playing his part in the consciousness raising of the world, and as it is no small part, one should look beyond the obvious to see how the manifestations of his actions are playing out.
For one thing he has polerized the world against us Peggy and I see today where the Arab world is beginning to boycott American products, which could find us standing alone in the next year, economically and politically. His buddy Rummy wants to completely overhaul the military, that isn't going to sit well with them, overhaul never does. Part of their problem is they don't have day to day plans and that is going to break down eventually. I read an astrologer once and can't remember where, wish I could, who said that Bush will end his presidency being the most hated (which he already is in other countries) president ever and the US would awaken at the end of 4 years and ask "what on earth happened." I have always believed that he would have to hide out toward the end of his term as there would be so many angry people. As bad as it seems, the answer to Bush is us, and so far us has turned into pitiful examples of democracy and the playground bully seems to fit our perception of America just fine. That will change before the next election.

Sally and other astrologers, will the American people be stupid again, and allow Bush and company to lie to them and tell them that we have to go to Syria to remove W(No)MD, just like they lied to us about reasons for going into Iraq? So far, no WMD were found in Iraq. A CNN poll suggests that a majority of Americans 60something percent say yes,we should invade Syria.
Oh that's good news, I may puke. Yes, I think we will invade Syria at least we will try. Throughout history the masses have not risen up unless there was something that affected them personally and collectively, like the depression here and in Europe. Did the masses rise against Saddam or the Taliban, we are not any different than they are. The few who tried were killed. Are the Chechens rising against Russia, are we demanding that Russia stop their activities against those people? No. I've decided that the "masses" have always done what they were told to do, but in America we have never been pushed this far, now they know what we will accept. And we will accept this administration going after any country it wants to go after. One would think that the scandals that have rocked this administration would have stopped them but it hasn't. So what will? A collective personal experience. The economy has to be gone or perhaps a massive earthquake in Washington DC. There are a few of us out here who keep trying to do something but will little or slow luck. There are even journalists who keep saying "look at this people" but we ignore it. Eventually this administration is going to stub it's toe and then we will look.

I was musing upon your column at breakfast this morning and out of nowhere came the thought that one of the things current conditions are doing is help us understand how the Holocaust could have happened. A deep Karmic cleansing ending the terrible cycle that began then.
The producer of a mini-series on Hitler was just fired because he called attention to the fact that the consciousness in America is similar to what was going on in Germany when Hitler was gathering power: "Gernon gave an interview to TV Guide in which he said that fear was behind the German public's acceptance of Hitler's policies.
Gernon also said Americans were supporting President Bush's Iraq policy ``because of the fear of what will happen if they don't.''
And of course the general American fearful state of mind has been cultivated long before 9/11. Remember the summer of the shark?
I'm thinking the saturn in gemini thing as it affects the 24/7 cable news cycle especially will liberate those poor schlubs who believe what they've been told. Those pathetic wretches who went out and bought duct tape and plastic.
bbuster: you are right, we have exactly the same conditions. What people don't realize is that Hitler didn't start out killing the Jews and others, he started with fear, the bombing of the Reichstag (which the government did themselves) they started taking away civil liberties in Germany and begin closing down any dissent. They excerbated the weak economic system into a desperate depression and walla the people were afraid and willing to do all they were told and afraid to speak out. Then came the invaisions of the other countries, then the gas chambers. All of this started in 1936 and the US didn't lift a finger to help (although they knew what was happening) until 1941 after Pearl Harbor. We even had a commission here in the states to moniter what was happening to the Jews by 1940. Herman Goebbles always said it was easy to control the people and get them to war, just tell them their lives and security are at risk. Sound familiar.
As much as I want to see Bush gone, I also believe that he alone is not the problem. He's a symptom of a bigger problem in this country. Until there is a change in consciousness on a massive scale, he won't leave.
Sally, as bbuster stated, these events are precipitous of a deep karmic cleansing. I wasn't upholding Bush's actions, merely stating that they are the beginnings of something much larger of which Uranus in Pisces is the instigator, or perhaps the symbolism, depending on how you want to look at it. That is my issue here, and one I like to see addressed astrologically; how the energies are indicative of transformation. Bush, like Hitler, is/was the catalyst. Perhaps this would be a good time to re-visit the Independence Day chart, and look at progressions?
I agree Peggy and with the progressed Sun ingressing into Pisces with Uranus there I have long thought there would be a sudden rise all over the world of more and more women speaking out. Uranus in Pisces will for the first time return to the position it was when women were given the right to vote, which had always been a male dominated exercise. That event found Uranus in opposition to the Sun, the date was Aug. 26, 1920. America's progressed chart at that time showed the Sun at 4 degrees Sag, squaring the Right to Vote Chart's Sun and Uranus, it had been kicking Congress into action for a year with determination, even more determination than the years which came before. I have lectured for years on the coming shift away from the over zealous masculine image of the world to a more balanced image. I still believe that it will happen fast. This Summer on the anniversary date of that Aug. 26 event Mars and Uranus will once again be opposing the event Sun and Mars will be, as I've said, closer to the earth than it's been in 73,000 the energy of that will be monumental and I can't even guess what it will mean. This is just one possibility, and there won't be just one event, there will be several
that will go over the summer, but it will be sudden and electric with Uranus
in the mix, Uranus then retrogrades back over the progressed US Sun at 29 degrees and progressed retrograde Mercury. This kind of energy isn't something that is under our control, it isn't even under the man who wants to be God sitting in the White House, but it will change things dramatically over the next two years, and I think the shift will be towards a balance of shared power between the masculine and feminine. As bad as things are world wide, it's still the lull before the storm. When Saturn goes into Cancer, we will have Pluto - Feminine Planet in a Masculine Sign, Neptune a Feminine Planet in a Masculine Sign, Uranus a Masculine Planet in a Feminine Sign and
Saturn a Masculine Planet in a Feminine Sign. So for two and a half years all the outer planets are lined up to balance out the Masculine and Feminine every time they are hit by a transiting planet, and the Sun in the US Chart Masculine Planet will be in a Feminine sign for 30 years. Slowly those things the feminine value, compassion, intuitive, fairness, balance, receptive, open will gain in acceptance and power.

I have thought since the election travesty and especially since 9/11 that our country, and possibly the world, was at a crossroads regarding awareness of neither male nor female dominance. Perhaps the Age of Aquarius is about balanced polarity?
The election was not only polarized along Red and Blue state lines but along male/female values, also. The Twin Towers, phallic symbols if ever there were ones, were brought down by patriarchal, women-subjugating fanatics. The Republican party has been hijacked by zealots who represent the least appealing characteristics of the male principle, brandishing their idea of a male god at everyone. The Democrat party is (not) being led by participants who demonstrate the least appealing characteristics (or at least what their critics say) of the female principle: wishy-washy, don't say what they mean, etc. etc.
Afghanistan was at least in a small degree about the state of women. In Iran the women are starting to defiantly go about without their face veils.
Fascinating book at #1 on NYT list is the DaVinci Code which discusses how the female principle got sabotaged, how Christ himself embraced it and how His message was hijacked by what the Christian religion became.
It seems to me that the need for balance, - as it says in the DaVinci Code the star of david shows male/female on a parity with one another, the equal-armed cross the same - is the underlying issue forcing its way into our consciousness whether we want it or not.
And if you think this is an anti-Christian tirade, think again. It's an anti-"look what they've done to my song, Ma". One of my favorite wisecracks is: Jesus is Coming - and is He pissed!

thanks for your article...yes there are a few people, messianic jews included, who think usa is the whore in revelation...and if you read on the whore controls "the beast", she 'rides' the beast.. the beast having been interpreted as the fundamentalist islam ultimately..the head of the beast gets injured..that would be iraq, because persia, (iran, afghanistan) is not arabs..she rides the beast (she controls the mid east)..but the sins of the whore are so gross that her stink reaches heaven where God lets the beast destroy her, in one hour, all her riches come to nothing, and the whole world weeps; because she was once so great..the beast gets the power from the dragon (the devil? or the symbolism of an asian nation?) and then the beast goes into israel and proclaims himself king..the final battle, where god tosses the beast into hell...

To the oregonian: Jerusalem mythos? There ARE plenty of Asian Christians (as a resident of many cities in the US as well as Europe, I've even actually met them) please be aware that Jesus went everywhere..and those who have not heard of him, God judges based on their hearts, it's not for us to judge or try to 'figure out' God with academic vocabulary...such is also talked about in the bible, as folly.

Not for Buddhists, for example. There're a lot of Buddhists, Hindus, etc, in the world. What is one of the wonderful things about Sally's work imo is that she understands living symbolism & does not try to literalize it. I agree, tho, that it would be easy to understand the US gov't as a "whore."
Hi Roxanne, I love to read your posts, makes me think and dig deeper. Joanna is right I don't actually literalize the symbolism. I do believe in the "living word of God," I also believe in it in the same way the Gnostics believed and that is
God reveals Himself everyday to anyone and everyone who is listening. I heard a priest say once that "truth is truth and truth does not change but our understanding of truth might." I wish I had the time to study religious symbolism more it is so fascinating to me. Read the "Code of DaVinci" it is fascinating and written by a man who does understand religious symbolism. Lordy, I would think Cheney would be his "scandal" but there are many others to pick from, such as exactly what did he know regarding 9/11 and why won't he let anyone investigate. Anyway, with Neptune going back to Cheney's Sun and Pluto to his Mars, I actually expect Cheney to die or be seriously ill before too long. I personally believe it is something in his or his father's past that comes back to haunt them and the information is already out there but we don't know what it is as yet because no one had made a case for it - yet. Neil is represented by the 9th house (as his third sibling)I am using the Chaldean system so his sister-in-law from Neil is represented by the 5th (9th house from Neil) both of those houses are ruled by Jupiter, but most important GWB's south node at 19 degree Sagittarius is in the 5th house and Pluto is on it, something from his past could be brought to light by Sharon Bush that would be an embarrassment if not scandalous. I felt that back in January there was something that he didn't take seriously but his parents did and it would come out the end of May and they would spend the rest of the administration covering it up. The information about Sharon and Neil was made public in late Dec. into January. From Aug. 27th 2003, give or take a few days, the people begin turning away I think. Absolutely look for Sharon to be labeled insane, alcoholic, unstable, maybe addicted to drugs. Neil's fight for his teenage children is a set up from the Bushes to make the public wonder why Neil wants full custody of the kids, they want to leave the impression that Sharon is an unfit mother. Some information about 9/11, Osama, or Saddam could come to light. As I've said there are so many scandals around him and if the media wakes up (and I think they will, at least some of them) they will take one of these scandals and run with it.

Thank goodness for this site! I have found that I am not alone in my anger over this current administration and all it has done to hurt our world. I also live in a very Pro-Bush Pro-Republican area of the south. Lots of educated people here from all over the country working for space and high technology companies, yet most of them flag waving Bush-ites who believe everything they see and hear on the evening news. We have lost friends here because we have spoken out against this President and tried to tell people what is really happening to our country. We have felt isolated and alone and my husband, who works for the government, fears speaking out at work. What scares us the most are people here who claim to be Christians and yet they want this administration to continue forth in their raid on the middle east and not stop until they have put Bibles into the hands of all the Arabs and converted them. I never liked or agreed with religion, per se, my whole life, although my mom sent us all to Sunday School and church. I felt like an outcast then and I feel the outcast even more so now, being a "liberal," in what seems to be a very conservative society. At my work, there are 60 people. I know one other liberal besides me. This friend of mine is scared to death to say anything about anything, she wants to keep her job and livelihood. Who can blame her? We are the oppressed. You should have seen the faces of these people when I said that I was against our going into Iraq. They threw their arms up and acted like I was a complete idiot, that we of course HAVE to do this . . . they will attack us if we don't attack them, they have WMD's, Saddam is a madman, etc. etc. It is FOR SURE they all watch Fox News.
Now, after this war is nearly complete, I have questioned the fact that Iraq has WMD's, whether they could have EVER harmed our country, etc. . . . now they say, of course we had to go . . . to liberate the Iraqi people!!! Fox News again.
So I am very skeptical when it comes to whether we are going to WAKE UP. It would take a miracle. A huge miracle. Not that I don't believe in miracles, quite the contrary . . . . it will happen, but what will the cost be?? HUGE. I suppose we must go through what we must go through.
