“Blowback” is a CIA term first used in March 1954 in a recently declassified report on the 1953 operation to overthrow the government of Mohammed Mossadegh in Iran. It is a metaphor for the unintended consequences of the US Governments International activities that might have been kept secret from the American people. Today’s Activities:
It doesn’t matter whether the “Azores” meeting was for the purpose to explore “one last peace opportunity,” (that one is doubtful) or a meeting of the top billed “leaders of war,” or as I suspect, a very expensive photo op. to recreate a symbolic “Yalta Conference.” Conjuring up images of the WWII trio of FDR, Churchill and Stalin, who held a conference in Yalta in the 40’s to reassure the people they were in charge and strong.
No matter the reason, the chart for the day was awful.
Let me stop here and explain just a bit about squares when activated in a person’s chart by transit, and this month we are looking at a multitude of transiting squares and oppositions from Mars to all the main “players” and to the US. Squares usually mean action with the possibility, if not probability, of doing or saying something that creates “rue the day” consequences.
That said, the Bush, Blair, Aznar day started with a VOC Moon in Leo, nothing much accomplished this morning. I am going to open this chart for 1:00pm when after lunch I figure they “got down to business.” The ascendant rested at 15 degrees Cancer, considering all the 12, 13, 14, and 15 degree Cardinal signs represented, I expect the three of them were whipping themselves up into a froth over war.
Blair: Venus squares today’s ascendant with Uranus conjunct.
Bush: Sun conjunct the ascendant, Moon and Jupiter square. Aznar: Mars square the ascendant and Uranus conjunct.
Barroso: Mars oppose the ascendant. Notice all the conjunctions and squares to each other’s chart. All these squares and oppositions could have the affect of a tremendous amount of “bravado.” A lot of “we can and WILL have this war.”
Tough guys with lots of ego and not much to stop those egos from overreaching their stated positions, kind of another “Benson, dear Benson” moment. For all we know with Mars in Capricorn in a square and opposition to their Sun, Mars, Venus, Moon, Chiron, Jupiter and Uranus, they might have been dividing up the world, sure that the world will fall in line.
NOTE: In the USA Chart the Sun falls on this ascendant and Saturn squares (restriction) and the best of all, GWB’s progressed Mars is conjuncting USA Saturn (restricted action)
Moving on, there is a Moon in critical degree 0 Virgo, opposing critical degree 0 Uranus in Pisces, something new, something unexpected reaching them relating to the people. I expect it was the shock of anti-war demonstrators, 300 strong greeting them on their isolated island. Both of these planets squared the nodes at 1 degree Gemini. Among other things this indicates plans that will unleash a negative public response. Mercury was in a separating square to Pluto (less than a degree) and an applying square to Saturn, conjuring up the image of “what evil lurks in the hearts of men, the shadow knows.”
My final comment on this chart would be the Midheaven at 27 degrees of Pisces, the exact degree of Tuesday’s Full Moon. Mix it all together and you come up with a recipe for unpopular action at least for the near future.
How did we get here? Where was this chaos unleashed and by who? I have said repeatedly in my columns “once chaos is unleashed, where it goes cannot be controlled.” History is strewn with tragic stories of people who believed they could control chaos, all to no avail.
Like Father Like Son: To a Point
George Bush Sr. by all accounts has had a powerful influence over his Son, I expect that’s due to the father’s Pluto conjunct GWB’s natal Sun. In a comparison of this nature, the Pluto person wields power over the Sun person, however ultimately the Sun person rebels against the control. In GWB’s case with his Sun in the 12th house, in all likelihood the rebellion takes a passive/aggressive path, unless something impacts GWB’s natal Mars sitting on the father’s ascendant, in which case Jr. would angrily oppose his father, and I understand they have had several angry confrontations after Jr. reached adulthood. George Bush, Sr. was born 06.12.1924, 11:38am, Milton, MA, he not only lives with these hard aspects, and they dovetail into Jr. Natal energies. Sr. Sun conjuncts Jr. Uranus and they both square dad’s Uranus (unexpected happenings and/or blowups, lots of tension between them) Their Saturn’s square (conflicting approaches in handling business, professional, political, financial and organizational affairs) This square does not indicate warm relations between them, and there can be competition between them for status and power. (The Astrology of Human Relationships – Sakoian and Acker)
Their Moons conjunct, but their Moons are badly aspected so they project both their negative and positive emotions on each other. Dad’s Sun conjuncts Jr.’s North Node, he is always pushing him toward new things. George Bush Sr. has pushed and controlled the direction of GWB all his life. He got him jobs, covered his mistakes, (Sun in the 10th house, dad’s reputation is valuable to him) his friends propped him up and cleaned up his messes. And what did Jr. do through all this? Showed his father failure after failure. All Poppy’s assistance, money, help, all of it, in one way or another George found a way he could wiggle out from under the control of his Dad, he would fail and that would show that “father doesn’t know best.”
Now Jr. is President of the United States and how did he get there? His father’s money, his father’s connections, his father’s position, his father brought all he possessed to bear on his son being the second tier of the “father/son team.” It’s even obvious that his father picked the administration.
George Bush Sr. unleashed the chaos, and now, like the rest of us, he doesn’t know what to do. He is watching his son arrogantly fritter away all his hard work in building up and developing an airtight loyal ally coalition. The son is basically saying, “whatever you did is worthless, I’m here now, it’s a new day old man.”
George Bush, Sr. has his Sun in the 10th house of his reputation and his reputation has been very important and valuable to him, his son is consciously or unconsciously dismantling that reputation. I doubt if it is all that conscious but it is malicious and his father is feeling it. In two months the progressed Moon of George Sr. conjuncts the natal Mars of Jr. there is a build up of tensions and will be some family fireworks, which may or may not be played out on a public stage. Dad has already sent his friends public to try to plead some sense to his son. Dad himself spoke at Tufts University on January 28th in a surreptitious plea for UN Sanctions, it was Dad and Powell that first talked Jr. into going to the UN. Dad envisioned the ally’s he brought to the table for Jr. giving their sanction and acknowledgement of Jr. as the true President of the United States. He did not count on his son’s superciliousness, snootiness, and disdain repelling the “ally’s. On top of all that, Bush Sr. has a position with the Carlyle Group that is dependent upon his good relations with other countries. Believe me, the “family” is concerned, and behind the scenes, whatever Jr. is undoing, dad is on the phone trying to repair.
I cannot take apart each and every dysfunctional aspect in this father/son interaction, but my goodness they’ve had some trying times and it the wheel just keeps spinning for them.
More heads-up:
Bush progressed Mars is conjunct the United States Saturn and will continue to do so right on up to transiting Saturn squaring it’s own position. No doubt it’s slow, but the US is beginning to apply the brakes. The seed of the Bush Administration scandal reared its head in January, gathering momentum in May and will be fully out by August.
Blair is not going to make it in England. Neptune is conjuncting his Natal Moon, he is being sacrificed on the GWB war alter, and he doesn’t see it. His Jupiter at the critical 29-degree Taurus (the Weeping Sisters) will be squared twice more by transiting Uranus, and Jupiter is the ancient ruler of his Pisces Midheaven. His career and reputation will be in complete tatters when this is over.
The USA Solar Arc Moon is in an applying opposition to the natal Sun, Mars will soon square that point, and the progressed US Moon is applying to a conjunction to our natal Mars, square Neptune the people are not going to like the result or being martyrs to the action the “Coalition of the Willing” are about to take.
Sally, you must have felt the depth of my despair and knew that I needed your soulful, indepth, and informative writing. Okay, I am delusional about you responding to my feeling, but I am certainly clear headed when I say your articles alway inspire and help our spirt soar. Sally, great article. I don't think the public has any clue that George W. Bush and George H. W. Bush's relationship might be "dysfunctional." We are all led to believe that they are perfectly in line with each other so it is good to hear this viewpoint. What a fascinating study. Speaking of study, I wish I could study with you, I could learn so much.
I've been depressed all day. It seems this war is "inevitable." I have made myself visualize peace in every which way possible. I imagine myself in the future looking at this time with awe that war was avoided.

P.S. I looked at the 8:01 chart for 3/17/2003 when Jr. made his speech, it looked like one square after the other, one opposition after the other. I would not want to be born at that time. What a very, very difficult chart.

Yes it is a difficult chart and will be his downfall. The Moon rules the 10th house and squares the US Mars (bringing possible violence to the US) and squares GWB's progressed Uranus exact, again reinforcing the people reacting with much anger. This Moon also squares Saturn locking Bush into a longer than they want situation. This is not going to be a cake walk for them. The chart's Moon also conj. US Neptune indicating the people have been lied to, Saturn goes on to square that. What's hidden will be made known sooner than what is hidden with 9/11. I expect you are feeling the world's collective depression over this news, we pick up things like that you know. We are all interconnected through our atoms at a sub-atomic level. Drink lots and lots of water, that helps. You are a joy Laurie, don't forget that.
By the way Laurie, the Sun (representing our leader) is Void of Course in this chart at 25 Pisces, our leader is in for a ride he doesn't expect.
Thanks again Sally for your inspiring interpretation on this. I have been trying to hold the thought of peace, and feeling a little hopeless. The media is certainly projecting the feeling that the war is inevitable, although, in the back of my mind, I still think that it may not happen.
Would like to know more about the Void of Course Sun. I understand what the Void of Course Moon is, but what does the VOC Sun mean? Given that it is sextile the US Pluto (27 Cap), how would you interpret it?

When looking at VOC just look at the event chart. A VOC Sun is an ego either out of control or an ego lost, disseminating or falling apart. With this sun in Pisces, I would judge it to be an ego lost and confused.
The comments about a father-son conflict are of real interest. However,the real point about Bush the Current is not a patracidal tendancy but his overall desire to wreak havoc and destruction on the world. The opportunity to kill death row inmates is now expanded to killing thousands of people everywhere... here, the Middle East, you name it. We're all on death row now. This is more than a father-son problem. In my opinion, its found in the Current's 12th house. Things are so bad I'm reduced to fantasies of the Pope flying to Bagdad and standing at the Rubicon so to speak to prevent a mass execution.
Tom, I am so with you on your fantasies, I've been thinking pretty much the same thing all day. The one thing I am sure of in astrology, is that life is always about "me." It's the primative "me" that propels us all. Remember GWB, as a child used to amuse himself by blowing up frogs with a firecracker stuffed down their throat. That would indicate enormous anger and disempowerment. Looking at the charts of both father and son that anger stems toward dad and you are right, he will make all of us pay for his anger. i would not be surprised to see him completely come apart with a breakdown. I'm not saying that will happen but the energy is present for that kind of experience for him. He is not tightly wrapped and when not even his father's connections can save him, well he just doesn't have the skills to stand on his own, except to kill, kill, kill.
Well, isn't this strange, I woke up this morning and told my husband that the Pope needed to be in Baghdad, that Bush wouldn't dare bomb if he was!! Talk about collective thinking!
It's 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday and CNN has just said that there is a massive movement of American troops from Kuwait to the Iraqi southern border. I wonder if Bush plans an earlier attack than we thought? What about the 48 hours? It makes one wonder.

The "war" is just the beginning of a long line of struggles as America tries to figure out where we have gone wrong. My guess is that it happened somewhere between November 1999 and January 2000.

I am concerned about the extent of tony's messianic saturn/neptune conjunction (may 1953), it's preacher-like, robotic rhetoric in the days ahead, he is non-stop, lots of gemini in his chart, yammerer-but I also am getting info that there is a child sexual abuse ring close investigation of some of his leading advisors - that may be his first undoing.

It is one of the most difficult mental problems to correct and you described it exactly. It is a completely unconcious and the acts are done by the best intentions by the person. But they end up causing harm to the person and since Dubya is the president, that means the country. He has managed to tear apart the coelition that his father put together. And the one who is the passive agressive always has the power. He can't be stopped. He can be taken out of office and that way stop hurting the country.
The men in the administration are also father figures so it is done to them also. He will bring them all down in the end, and never even understand what he did.
I have just been looking at the Boyd Chart(US war chart) of July 6, 1775, 11 am Philadelphia. It seems to be the chart that reflects what is going on at the moment. I compared it to the Gulf War and Thursday next. That is the day that the Sun will cross the Boyd decendent. I wish you would take a look at this. I belive that with your expertise that it will show whats and whens concerning this US act of agression. I am particularly interesting in transiting Pluto in 3rd square Neptune in the 12th. Transiting Pluto 2nd Scopio was sextile Neptune in Gulf War.
The July 6th, 1775 was the Declaration of Arms Act. Congress was debating (justifying) taking up arms against another country. The actually war started on April 19, 1775 just before dawn and they were trying to cover their bacon on July 6hth because they had already turned arms against another country. Certainly this chart is stunning in its parallels for what is happening today.
Just briefly, today's full moon is on this Mars and in a couple of months Saturn is going to hit those angles. A few months ago Saturn was stationary retrograde on 29 degrees Gemini,hitting this midheaven. A lot happened during that period, for one thing Congress gae this President the go ahead for a war they knew nothing about, and that has become obvious. In May Saturn will once again be at 29 degrees and there will be a lot to answer for from this Congress and the President. When Uranus opposed the Venus of this chart was when the anti-war movement started getting underway. And that was at the same time Saturn was at 29 degrees Gemini, pointing out two completely different takes on this war. Uranus will also go back to 26 degrees Aquarius.
Look at that Mars/Pluto trine (money in arms or weapons of mass destruction) money will be made off this war, in fact tons of money has been made off this war already.The progressed Moon is conjuncting the US Moon and the progressed Sun is at 0 Pisces, so is transiting Uranus. Our leaders aren't finished with shocks coming their way.

Since transiting Pluto is forming a square to Neptune, is it insignificant since there is no square in the Boyd chart or does it fit into the "rue the day" signifigance and if so does it mean a lot of deaths or does it mean that hidden things will be revealed. Or something else. That Pluto-Neptune thing jumped out at me as so important and haven't a clue how to read it.

Pluto in square to Neptune alone cannot be measured as it is generational and relates to "reality hitting illusion" An example would be when Pluto conjuncted Neptune in the late 60's and we became aware that our fragile eco-system was not clean, we became aware of injustices leveled against women and blacks. Pluto square Neptune from Sag. and Neptune opposing Pluto of the 40's and 50's, could set up a situaton where Neptune and Pluto energies work together to apply pressure on a new generation to make sure the "ideals" become reality.
As far as the US Chart "Arms" chart, that has to be taken in relationship to the square of natal US Mars to Neptune, because when Pluto Squares the 1775 chart it will also oppose the 07/04/1776 Mars. Much the same as say a birth chart reveals a marriage chart which might reveal the children of that marriage, which might reveal etc. etc. etc. Time and energies do not stand alone, several things are always going on at once. One can find the Civil War chart impacting the "Arms" chart and the US Chart and the "Boston Tea Party" Chart, which I consider the beginning of the Revolution (although there had been unrest for sometime before the Tea Party, but it was the "first organized action by the people")
Aside from Pluto, the impact of Saturnian energies hitting Neptune across the board of all of the charts cannot be underestimated, even Neptune in the Civil War chart is in late degree Pisces, still hit by Saturn.
We as a nation, a living breathing collective organism are being pushed to change our collective view from one of unilateral to multi-lateral. We have the opportunity to stand for the value of all mankind, that's what the outer planets give us the chance to learn. Not "my" way but "our" way. Pluto will breakdown self-serving interests in a person or nation, and how we rebuild is up to us. The next two type of Presidents we elect will tell us what direction we as a nation want to go. "Justice, freedom, prosperity for all" are these just idealogical words to us or do we want to live them in reality?
I hope I've articulated this so it's not so confusing, or have I just raised more questions?
